Aliexpress 39€ Deal
Just a heads up. I just got the Trimui Smart Pro with 64 GB sd card for 39.1€ on AliExpress. What a steal! 😁
You will need coins and also promo from the "Euro Cup Mania"/Summer Carnival. 1. Go to the coin section and search for "Trimui Smart Pro" 2. Select the cheapest one with 15% coin discount 3. Select 64GB version to get the total over 59€ for the 8€ coupon to count (remember collect the coupon beforehand). 4. Select buy now for the 15% coins discount to be applied.
You can get it even cheaper if you don't want the sd card. Just use US dollars as currency for the base model to go above the 59$ threshold for the 8$ coupon to count.
Cheers

2024.06.01 13:07 madrasi2021 AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate (SAA-C03) Resources

Every single day there is a question from someone here saying "where do I start for AWS Solutions Architect Associate" when there are a few hundred articles from those who passed already.
So here is a master list of resources to help those who have this question.
Cloud Practitioner version of this is here
If you find this post useful - upvote. I am happy to take feedback / suggestions / changes etc - please comment!

tl;dr

  1. Get 1 video course and watch it end to end - the subreddit favourites are below / scroll down further for links
  1. Read whitepapers / review new announcements from re:Invent 2023
  2. Do one decent set of practice exams from one provider- subreddit favourites below / scroll down further for links
Take and Pass exam!

Subreddit Search

Following my own usual guidance, you can always use the subreddit search feature and read articles from everyone in the last month who posted about this exam / passed it. There is a wealth of detail / experience here to learn from :
Link : https://www.reddit.com/AWSCertifications/search/?q=saa+solutions+architect+associate+pass&type=link&t=month

Exam Details

If you have absolutely no clue about the exam - start here.
The exam code is SAA-C03
AWS page with all the details : https://aws.amazon.com/certification/certified-solutions-architect-associate/
Always read the Exam Guide (tells you whats in / out of scope) : https://d1.awsstatic.com/training-and-certification/docs-sa-assoc/AWS-Certified-Solutions-Architect-Associate_Exam-Guide.pdf

Minimum Viable Path to Certification

Most people usually need 3 things to pass the exam
  1. A single video based course introducing AWS and all the key exam topics
Typically these are courses where someone reads from some slides, shows you the AWS console and how to use it and then gives you tips on what to remember - there are free and paid versions of these.
  1. Additional material on key topics.
For SAA-C03 - there are some recommended whitepapers on WAF and also since 6 months have passed since the last re:Invent 2023 - any of the major announcements from then now are in scope for the exam. You wont see too many new things but there is a chance there are some random questions that were not covered in any practice exam / course.
  1. One good quality practice exam
Note : do not fall for some random "dump" found on internet or a file your mate gave you to study.
Also note - you do NOT need more than 1 of each category. You can buy more than one practice exam for sure but doing one is enough IMHO.

1. Video Courses

Free Video based Courses

Free from AWS's own training service (Skillbuilder) :
There is an "Exam Prep" course from Skillbuilder but note that this just covers the high level domains but is not a comprehensive deep dive.
https://explore.skillbuilder.aws/learn/course/external/view/elearning/14760/exam-prep-aws-certified-solutions-architect-associate-saa-c03
Optional : There is a slightly extended version of this in the paid tier with additional exam-style questions, flashcards and more importantly FREE hands on labs and the official practice exam.
https://explore.skillbuilder.aws/learn/course/external/view/elearning/14776/exam-prep-aws-certified-solutions-architect-associate-saa-c03-with-practice-material
There is a 7 day (extended to 10 days sometimes) free trial for the paid tier which can help you cram this. You can subscribe, immediately cancel but still enjoy 7 days free.
Please note that this course is not enough on its own to pass and you may want to try additional material below.
YouTube based video course
This course below is a better alternative to the SkillBuilder course above but is about 50 hours.
Andrew Brown is an AWS community hero who runs his own training site called exampro.co but offers most of the material for free on FreeCodeCamp's YouTube channel.
The 2024 refresh of the SAA course is here : https://youtu.be/c3Cn4xYfxJY
Andrew also has additional (free / paid) content on his site to check out.

PAID Video based courses

Adrian Cantrill's courses :
Adrian Cantrill is an independent content creator and has his own site from where you can obtain courses.
His courses go above and beyond what the exam needs and this is exactly why the community loves these courses as you get more practical knowledge than just cramming for the exam. The additional coverage means these courses are longer and not as cheap as other courses that cover just the exam material but in the general opinion of everyone who has taken the course it is absolutely worth it.
Link : https://learn.cantrill.io/
Udemy Courses :
Udemy is a marketplace for courses created by independent authors.
Two of the well known authors are mentioned below but please note that Udemy's pricing model can be a bit weird. One day it may show 150 USD for a course and another day 15 USD. This price it high and discount it heavily model catches out most people - so NEVER pay more than USD 20 for anything on Udemy.
Just wait for a day or so and prices may change. Opening Udemy in another incognito browser etc usually yields a different price or follow the authors on social media for codes that shrink the cost.
Stephane Maarek :
Go via his site : https://courses.datacumulus.com/ for links to his Solutions Architect Associate with the best available coupon.
Neil Davis :
https://www.udemy.com/course/aws-certified-solutions-architect-associate-hands-on/
Either one of these Udemy courses is sufficient. You still need to combine it with practice exams but you do not need more than 1 video course.
Other sites :
Exampro.co
As mentioned above Andrew Brown has his own site with additional material over his YouTube course.
Cloud Academy
https://cloudacademy.com/learning-paths/aws-solutions-architect-associate-saa-c03-certification-preparation-for-aws-1-7446/ has both a learning plan and a practice exam at the end.

2. Additional Material

I will update this section soon with some additional guidance soon as I am not happy yet (please let me know in comments if there are key additional coverage I should include) - I am scouring recent exam pass posts to see whats current and also want to add links to re:Invent 2023 announcements. I also am thinking of adding in links to "cheat sheets" / docs - let me know if this would be useful.
WAF - Well Architected Framework
https://aws.amazon.com/architecture/well-architected/
You need to know at some decent depth on what the pillars are and what they do.
Read the whitpapers from https://aws.amazon.com/whitepapers/
Specifically I found the Reliability and Cost Optimization white papers very useful.

3. Practice Exams

Please do NOT fall for "dumps" - if anyone offers you the EXACT list of AWS questions or guarantees the question bank matches the exam - these are dumps. The links below are either official or well regarded sources.
Free :
AWS skillbuilder has one free official exam with just 20 free questions.
To be honest its not really worth it - you can search for "Official practic exam skillbuilder SAA-C03" using your favourite search engine to find it.
exampro.co
Has 1 free practice exam you can sign up to.
Paid :
Official Practice exam
https://explore.skillbuilder.aws/learn/course/external/view/elearning/13593/exam-prep-official-practice-exam-aws-certified-solutions-architect-associate-saa-c03-english - there is a free 7 day trial available for you to use as this exam may not be worth a month's subscription fee
Tutorialsdojo.com
Highly recommended independent resource for practice exam questions with a very useful "review mode" and every question comes with detailed explanations on answers
Udemy
Stephane Maarek : again go via his site : https://courses.datacumulus.com/
Neal Davis : https://www.udemy.com/course/aws-certified-solutions-architect-associate-hands-on/
Other popular sites :
Exampro.co
Andrew Brown has I believe 3 practice exams as well on his site. One is free - the other two you pay for.
Whizlabs
I havent used them personally but https://www.whizlabs.com/aws-solutions-architect-associate/
Cloud Academy
https://cloudacademy.com/learning-paths/aws-solutions-architect-associate-saa-c03-certification-preparation-for-aws-1-7446/ has both a learning plan and a practice exam at the end.

Not Recommended sites :

Sites that are sadly NOT recommended anymore - Avoid A Cloud Guru / Pluralsight as their courses are not considered the best anymore. They used to be leaders but somehow have fallen behind and their subscription model doesnt work in a world with cheap one time purchase courses.
If you want a sandbox to experiment - then ACG offers one but so do Whizlabs and Tutorialsdojo.

Optional / Complementary material

I have an article where you can find complementary / alternatives to the Solutions Architect Exam - most are free and includes the "AWS Knowledge : Architecting Free Digital Badge"
https://www.reddit.com/AWSCertifications/comments/1d1o522/no_payment_options_to_learn_aws_with_digital/
This material isnt exam focused but if you want some free alternatives / cannot afford to pay for the exam - then check out the link.

FAQ

Q. Do I need ALL this material
A. No. Just one of each is fine. Example : just Adrian's Course + tutorialsdojo
Q. Do I really need to do hands on work
A. Yes - it is recommended that you get some hands on work at the Associate level. You can use one of the sandboxes but be careful using your own free tier account that you dont end up with leaving resources running too long and getting a big bill. Always secure your account and set billing alarms and dont create an account till you know how to do these!
Q. Where can I find vouchers for the exam
A. check this thread : https://www.reddit.com/AWSCertifications/comments/18woit6/2024_aws_vouchers_exam_discounts_othe?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Q. Can I cheat my way using Dumps that I found online / my mate gave me / found on GitHub / YouTube?
A. Using dumps there is a high chance you fail and/or get caught / banned - the risk isnt worth it. Stick with genuine resources.
Q. Can I pass with just free resources as I cannot afford the resources
A. Its possible but please it is recommended to atleast spend on decent practice exams. If you cannot afford the exam / resources - just get the free digital badges (Architecting) for the interim
Q. I skipped CCP / CLF - is that okay
A. Yes - its okay to have skipped the foundational level - almost all the courses above teach you from scratch.
Q. Can someone who is new to IT do this exam
A. Yes - Many people start from scratch and get to the Associate level. Just make sure you are investing the time required.
Q. Is it worth it?
A. Plenty of threads on this subreddit covering this. You have to make up your own mind if its worth it to you or not.
Q. I dont code or want to - is this course for me?
A. While there is no coding involved in the course - knowing how to use the AWS CLI / being able to do some basic scripting would be very helpful anyway. You can also use free tools like CoPilot / Code Whisperer to help you with pieces you struggle with.
Q. Can I use ChatGPT / Amazon Q etc to learn
A. Many of these Generative AI tools can still give you incorrect answers. So do not rely on them but if it helps you to quickly get the concept - go ahead and double check the results against official docs.
Q. Are there books to learn from instead of videos
A. Books get out of date too quickly and I do not recommend learning from them. However there is an official Sybex Guide to the exam and tutorialsdojo / Neal Davis (Digital Cloud) also have an ebook. You can google for links to these.
Good Luck folks!

Chapter 4: Understanding Charts and Time Frames

We will explore the different types of charts, time frames, and how to use them effectively on TradingView.com. By the end of this chapter, you will have a solid understanding of how to use charts and time frames to analyze and trade the markets.

What are Charts and Time Frames?

Charts and time frames are the foundation of technical analysis. A chart is a graphical representation of a security's price action over a specific period. Time frames, on the other hand, refer to the duration of the data displayed on the chart. In other words, time frames determine how much data is displayed on the chart and how often the data is updated.

Types of Charts

There are several types of charts, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. The most common types of charts are:
1. Line Chart: A line chart connects the closing prices of a security over a specific period, creating a continuous line. This chart is useful for identifying trends and patterns.
2. Candlestick Chart: A candlestick chart displays the high, low, open, and close prices of a security over a specific period. Each candle represents a specific time period, and the color of the candle indicates whether the price closed higher or lower than the previous day's close.
3. Bar Chart: A bar chart is similar to a candlestick chart but does not display the open and close prices. Instead, it shows the high and low prices, as well as the open and close prices.
4. Renko Chart: A Renko chart is a type of chart that uses a unique algorithm to create a chart that is not based on time. Instead, it uses price movements to create a chart that is more focused on the price action.

Time Frames

Time frames determine the duration of the data displayed on the chart. Common time frames include:
1. 1-minute: A 1-minute chart displays the price action over a 1-minute period.
2. 5-minute: A 5-minute chart displays the price action over a 5-minute period.
3. 15-minute A 15-minute chart displays the price action over a 15-minute period.
4. 30-minute: A 30-minute chart displays the price action over a 30-minute period.
5. 1-hour: A 1-hour chart displays the price action over a 1-hour period.
6. 4-hour: A 4-hour chart displays the price action over a 4-hour period.
7. Daily: A daily chart displays the price action over a 1-day period.
8. Weekly: A weekly chart displays the price action over a 1-week period.
9. Monthly: A monthly chart displays the price action over a 1-month period.

Using Charts and Time Frames on TradingView.com

TradingView.com is a popular platform for charting and analyzing financial markets. Here's how to use charts and time frames on TradingView.com:
1. Creating a Chart: To create a chart on TradingView.com, go to the "Charts" tab and select the security you want to chart. Choose the chart type and time frame you want to use.
2. Customizing the Chart: Once you have created a chart, you can customize it by adding indicators, drawing tools, and other features.

Introduction to Trading Strategies

Trading strategies are pre-defined rules or methods used to make trading decisions. These strategies are designed to help traders navigate the markets, identify profitable opportunities, and minimize losses. Trading strategies can be categorized into several types, including:
· Trend following strategies: These strategies aim to identify and ride the trend, whether it's an uptrend or a downtrend.
· Range trading strategies: These strategies focus on identifying and trading within a specific price range.
· Mean reversion strategies: These strategies rely on the idea that prices will revert to their historical means.
· Statistical arbitrage strategies: These strategies involve identifying mispricings in the market and exploiting them.

Popular Trading Strategies

2.1 Trend Following Strategies
Trend following strategies are designed to identify and ride the trend. These strategies involve identifying the direction of the market and trading in that direction. Some popular trend following strategies include:
· Moving Average Crossover (MAC): This strategy involves identifying the crossover of two moving averages to determine the direction of the trend.
· Relative Strength Index (RSI): This strategy involves identifying overbought or oversold conditions using the RSI indicator.
· Bollinger Bands: This strategy involves identifying breakouts above or below the bands to determine the direction of the trend.

Backtesting and Evaluating Trading Ideas

As a trader, it's essential to test and refine your trading ideas before implementing them in live markets. Backtesting and evaluating your trading ideas can help you identify potential flaws, optimize your strategy, and increase your chances of success. In this chapter, we'll explore the process of backtesting and evaluating trading ideas using TradingView.com, a popular platform for charting and backtesting trading strategies.

What is Backtesting?

Backtesting is the process of applying a trading strategy to historical market data to evaluate its performance. It allows you to test your trading idea on past data to see how it would have performed in real-time. By backtesting your strategy, you can:
1. Identify potential flaws in your strategy
2. Optimize your strategy for better performance
3. Refine your strategy to improve its accuracy
4. Evaluate the strategy's risk-reward ratio

Why Backtest?

Backtesting is crucial for several reasons:
1. Risk management: Backtesting helps you identify potential risks associated with your trading strategy.
2. Strategy optimization: Backtesting allows you to refine your strategy to improve its performance.
3. Performance evaluation: Backtesting enables you to evaluate the performance of your strategy and make data-driven decisions.
4. Confidence booster: Backtesting gives you confidence in your strategy, reducing the risk of emotional trading decisions.

How to Backtest on TradingView.com

TradingView.com offers a range of tools and features for backtesting trading ideas. Here's a step-by-step guide to get you started:
1. Create a new chart: Open TradingView.com and create a new chart for the asset you want to backtest.
2. Select the data range: Choose the time period for which you want to backtest your strategy. You can select a specific date range or use the default settings.
3. Add the strategy: Click on the "Indicators" tab and add the strategy you want to backtest. You can use built-in indicators or create your own custom indicators.

5. Run the backtest: Click the "Run" button to start the backtest. TradingView.com will apply your strategy to the selected data range and provide performance metrics.
6. Analyze the results: Review the backtest results, including the strategy's profit/loss, drawdown, and other performance metrics.

Evaluating Trading Ideas

Evaluating your trading idea is a crucial step in the backtesting process. Here are some key metrics to consider:
1. Profit/Loss: Calculate the total profit or loss generated by your strategy.
2. Drawdown: Measure the maximum loss experienced by your strategy.
3. Sharpe Ratio: Calculate the Sharpe Ratio to evaluate the strategy's risk-adjusted performance.
4. Sortino Ratio: Use the Sortino Ratio to evaluate the strategy's risk-adjusted performance, focusing on the maximum drawdown.
5. Information Coefficient: Calculate the Information Coefficient to evaluate the strategy's ability to generate profits.

Best Practices for Backtesting

To get the most out of backtesting, follow these best practices:
1. Use a robust data set: Ensure your data is accurate and free from errors.
2. Test multiple scenarios: Test your strategy on different time frames, assets, and market conditions.
3. Monitor performance metrics: Keep track of your strategy's performance metrics and adjust as needed.
4. Refine your strategy: Continuously refine your strategy to improve its performance.
5. Avoid overfitting: Be cautious of overfitting, where your strategy performs well on the training data but poorly on new data.

Conclusion

Backtesting and evaluating trading ideas is a crucial step in the trading process. By using TradingView.com and following best practices, you can refine your trading strategy, optimize its performance, and increase your chances of success. Remember to evaluate your strategy's performance using relevant metrics and refine it continuously to improve its performance. 2024.06.01 12:50 eggbeancornsoup Give me ideas for extremely specific Pokémon to build!

Title. Basically I really really enjoy the idea of building very specific Pokémon, even if I’m not going to use them in competitive or anything or they’re not even that good necessarily. The puzzle-solving aspect of putting together a Pokémon across generations is very satisfying to me. I’ll give an example:
I’m playing in a local Natdex Draft league on Pokémon showdown. This week I wanted to run some form of status removal to deal with toxic from my opponent’s blissey. I noticed that on bulbapedia, serperior, which I drafted, learns aromatherapy specifically from a Japanese pokecenter event in tohoku which ran for 2 weeks in December 2011. I started thinking about how someone would go about building the serperior I’m running in a cartridge. Lucky for me, these distribution roms were dumped online ages ago and I have a 3DS with custom firmware which can run them and transfer them to my Japanese copy of black to receive the special snivy. From there, the snivy takes a trip to an english white 2 so it can get on my 3ds with bank and transporter, into gen 7 to learn defog from the usum move tutor, back into bank to be transported to home, into sword from home so that I can place it into the daycare with another snivy that knows glare so it can get glare (egg moves can transfer between pokemon of the same species in the daycare together in gen 8) and then back into home to be transferred into scarlet where it can evolve and learn leaf storm, its final move, have 6 bottle caps used on it to max IVs, have a modest mint used on it, and finally be EV trained in special attack and speed.
So yeah, essentially I really enjoy the idea of giving a Pokémon a tour around the franchise it to build it in some unique way. What are some things I should do with this idea? I could build every world champion’s VGC team, a la YouTuber im a blisy, but I’d love to see what kind of wacky mons you guys think I should build. Thanks!

2024.06.01 12:42 crazyinternetpeople What am I even looking for here? Am I searching for tax preparer/accountant correctly?

TL;DR: Parents, sibling, and I want a tax prepareaccounting firm that gives personalized advice, knows trusts, business accounting capabilities. Does that typically exist in a small local firm with a few CPAs and EAs?
Long version: My parents, sibling, and I all live in the same state and want to get an accountant to do all of our tax preparation and advice. Sibling and I are both duel high-ish income households, parents in their 70s will eventually leave seven figure trust plus a house to us. When that happens, sibling and I plan to pool that inheritance and coinvest it since they don't want to bother managing it and we'd get lower fees, access to private markets if we want etc. with a higher balance.
We want a small/medium local firm that can do i) business taxes in case I start a business one day (aside from the LLC where this pooled investment idea might live), ii) normal annual tax preparation for all three households (some itemize every year, some only some years, some have K-1s that don't come in time and require filing extensions), and iii) proactive tax advice that anticipates our life plans.
On that last point, an example: My parents had a large capital gain a few years ago and I told them about using an opportunity fund to get a small discount and defer the tax. They asked their accountant about it and accountant said "oh yeah that's a good idea, hadn't thought about it." We'd like a firm that thinks about each of our situations and suggests tax efficient moves like that proactively.
Obviously a lot of this could be done by EAs but a firm that has CPAs that specialize in different areas would be nice in case we have questions. Does looking for a local firm with a few EAs and a few CPAs seem like the right solution? Anything else that I should be considering or seems overlooked given the info above?
I've read the helpful advice on this sub about questions to ask when vetting providers but didn't see much about tech. Are there telltale signs I could ask about that would indicate a firm has really good tech that enables them to notice "my clients a, b and c would be affected by this recent change"?
Thank you for any thoughts!

2024.06.01 12:05 thenigbigga Why are there so many Batman writers? What does it all mean?

I’m somewhat new to comics, and I’m just looking for some clarification on some of this stuff as im finding it easy to get lost. I understand I might have missed a lot of obvious stuff, I might not have looked in the right spot? I have a few (a lot) questions that may or may not be related so any insight is appreciated, thanks :))
Why are there so many different writers for Batman?? I understand the dc hiring n firing n whatever n ppl moving on to other stuff etc, but where do they all fit in? And are any of them needed for prior reading for others or can I really just read whatever the heck I want? Do I need to read all of Tom king to read chip zdarsky run? What abt James tynion? I enjoyed battle for the cowl (even tho I’ve seen ppl say it sucks?) so do I need to read all of final crisis to understand what’s going on there? Than after I read all that do I need to read everything tony s Daniel has put out? (Ik ofc not EVERYTHING, however what extent do I need to dive into his/others work to get a proper grasp on certain things. I saw he worked on detective comics 900-something, does that have any bearing on anything? Or is that its own thing?) From my understanding, the grant Morrison run mainly takes place after final crisis, as well as battle for the cowl, and has a lot of dickbats (I think that’s what ppl call him?? (Dick GraysonBatman)) which I’m interested in, but his run starts at like 600-something issues? Do I need to read 600+ issues of other stuff before that to understand the grant Morrison stuff? What are all the crisis’?? Crisis on infinite earths was like the 80s, but there’s infinite crisis omnibus in 2020? Does it take that long to make an omnibus? Is that related to final crisis at all? How does any of that relate to Scott Snyder run? How does Scott Snyder run relate to Scott Snyder dark knight metal? How does dark knight metal relate to dark knight DEATH metal? Flashpoint happened in 2011, Ik that flash went to a parallel earth with Thomas Wayne Batman, smt happened, rest the timeline, whatever, how tf is Thomas Wayne Batman in Tom king Batman run in like 2019?? I’m also extremely interested in the morbius chair wally west vs darkest knight, according to google I think it’s in dark nights death metal speed metal? I don’t see that listed in the dark night metal or dark night death metal omnibus’ at all, maybe I’m mistaken? Do those not have anything to do w that? It said somewhere here that frank miller dkr and jeph loeb long Halloween are good to read back to back? Is this in any way confirmed? Surely not every single one of these stories is the same Batman right? Do any of these questions make sense or am I missing something???
Now, all that being said, I understand that “u don’t have to read it chronologically” or whatever, I’m just trying to get a better understanding of the whole timeline(s?) I’m not freaking out over what goes where or anything I’m just a little confused on exactly how anything is connected, if at all, as well as just how convoluted it all is, and as I said, any insight is appreciated. I understand some of these may be stupid questions to yall, thank u for your patience 🫶

2024.06.01 12:02 Normodox A Slush Fund for Radical Protesters?

The profusion of identical green tents at this spring’s anti-Israel protests struck many as odd. “Why is everybody’s tent the same?,” asked New York mayor Eric Adams. Like others, the mayor suspected “a well-concerted organizing effort” driving the protests. More recent reporting shows a concerted push behind the Gaza protest movement. But it is not as simple as a single organization secretly rallying protesters or buying tents. Instead, the movement’s most determined activists represent a network of loosely linked far-left groups. Some are openly affiliated with well-known progressive nonprofits; others work in the shadows.
The movement also draws on diverse but generous sources of financial backing. Those funding streams may soon be augmented by the federal government. As I chronicled last year in a Manhattan Institute report, “The Big Squeeze: How Biden’s Environmental Justice Agenda Hurts the Economy and the Environment,” the administration’s massive program of environmental justice grants seems designed to prioritize the funding of highly ideological local groups. The Inflation Reduction Act, for example, earmarks $3 billion for “environmental and climate justice block grants” intended for local nonprofits. Today, hundreds of far-left political groups include language about environmental issues and “climate justice” in their mission statements. If just a fraction of planned grants flows to such groups, the effect will be a gusher of new funding for radical causes.
As the Gaza protests spread across U.S. college campuses, many observers noted an eerie uniformity among them. From one campus to the next, protesters operated in disciplined cadres, keeping their faces covered and using identical rote phrases as they refused to talk with reporters. The Atlantic noted the strangeness of seeing elite college students “chanting like automatons.” Students held up keffiyeh scarves or umbrellas to block the view of prying cameras and linked arms to halt the movements of outsiders. At Columbia University and elsewhere, protesters formed “liberated zones,” from which “Zionists” were excluded. Around the edges of the encampments, the more militaristic activists donned helmets and goggles and carried crude weapons, apparently eager to mix it up with police or counter-protesters. We’ve seen these tactics before—notably during the “mostly peaceful” Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, when full-time agitators helped ignite riots, set up a police-free (and violence-plagued) zone in Seattle, and laid nightly siege to Portland, Oregon’s federal courthouse.
In a remarkable work of reporting, Park MacDougald recently traced the tangled roots of organizations backing pro-jihad protests, both on and off campuses. These include Antifa and other networks of anonymous anarchists, along with “various communist and Marxist-Leninist groups, including the Maoist Revolutionary Communist Party, the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), and the International ANSWER coalition,” MacDougald writes. Higher up the food chain, we find groups openly supported by America’s growing class of super-rich tech execs or the anti-capitalist heirs of great fortunes. For example, retired tech mogul Neville Roy Singham, who is married to Code Pink founder Jodie Evans, funds The People’s Forum, a lavish Manhattan resource center for far-left groups. As the Columbia protests intensified, the center urged members to head uptown to “support our students.” Following the money trail of other protest groups, MacDougald finds connections to the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Ford Foundation, and—surprising no one—the George Soros-backed Tides Foundation.
Of course, the current wave of anti-Israel protests also involves alliances with pro-Hamas organizations such as Students for Justice in Palestine. Last November, Jonathan Schanzer of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies testified to the House Ways and Means Committee that SJP and similar groups have deep ties to global terrorist organizations, including Hamas.
For many keffiyeh-wearing protestors, however, a recently professed concern for Palestinians is just the latest in a long list of causes they believe justify taking over streets and college quads. In Unherd, Mary Harrington dubs this medley of political beliefs the “omnicause,” writing that “all contemporary radical causes seem somehow to have been absorbed into one.” Today’s leftist activists share an interlocking worldview that sees racism, income inequality, trans intolerance, climate change, alleged police violence, and Israeli-Palestinian conflicts all as products of capitalism and “colonialism.” Therefore, the stated rationale for any individual protest is a stand-in for the real battle: attacking Western society and its institutions.
In the U.S., this type of general-purpose uprising goes back at least to the riots at the 1999 meeting of the World Trade Organization in Seattle. In those protests, mainstream liberal factions—including labor unions and environmentalists—were joined by “black bloc” anarchists and other radicals eager to engage in “direct action” against police. That pattern—relatively moderate demonstrators providing a friendly envelope for hard-core disruptors—formed the template for many later protests: the Occupy Wall Street encampments in 2011, demonstrations following the police shooting of Michael Brown in 2014, 2016’s Standing Rock anti-pipeline movement, and of course, the calamitous summer of 2020.
These uprisings were not entirely spontaneous. In some cases, activists spend months planning mass actions—for example, against economic summits or political conventions—and can recruit street fighters from across the country. In others, an event, such as George Floyd’s death, sparks popular protests involving neophyte demonstrators. Those attract far-left activists, who swoop in to organize and expand the struggle, often tilting it toward more radical action.
That has certainly been the case at the college Gaza-paloozas. At Columbia, the New York Times spotted a woman old enough to be a student’s grandmother in the thick of the action as protesters barricaded that school’s Hamilton Hall. The woman was 63-year-old Lisa Fithian, a lifetime activist, who Portland’s alternative weekly Street Roots approvingly calls “a trainer of mass rebellion.” A counter-protester trying to block the pro-Hamas demonstrators told NBC News, “She was right in the middle of it, instructing them how to better set up the barriers.” Fithian told the Times she’d been invited to train students in protest safety and “general logistics.” She claims to have taken part in almost every major U.S. protest movement going back to the 1999 “Battle in Seattle.”
America’s radical network has plenty of Lisa Fithians, with the time and resources to travel the country educating newcomers about the “logistics” of disruptive protests. And these activists appear to have played key roles in the college occupations. The New York City Police Department says nearly half the demonstrators arrested on the Columbia and City University of New York (CUNY) campuses on April 30 were not affiliated with the schools. One hooded Hamilton Hall occupier—photographed scuffling with a Columbia custodian before getting arrested—turned out to be 40-year-old James Carlson, heir to a large advertising fortune. According to the New York Post, Carlson lives in a $2.3 million Park Slope townhouse and has a long rap sheet. For example, in 2005, he was arrested in San Francisco during the violent “West Coast Anti-Capitalist Mobilization and March Against the G8.” (Those charges were dropped.)
For a quarter-century now, Antifa and other anarchist networks have worked to refine tactics and share lessons following each major action. At Columbia, UCLA, and other schools, authorities found printouts of a “Do-It Yourself Occupation Guide” and similar documents. The young campus radicals are eager to learn from their more experienced elders. And, like the high-achieving students they are, they follow directions carefully. MacDougald asked Kyle Shideler, the director for homeland security and counterterrorism at the Center for Security Policy, about the mystery of the identical tents. There was no need for a central group to distribute hundreds of tents, Shideler said. Instead, “the organizers told [students] to buy a tent, and sent around a Google Doc with a link to that specific tent on Amazon. So they all went out and bought the same tent.”
In other words, America’s radical class has gotten very skilled at recruiting and instructing new activists—even from among the ranks of elite college students with a good deal to lose. How much more could this movement accomplish with hundreds of millions in federal dollars flooding activist groups around the country?
From its first week in office, the Biden administration has trumpeted its goal to funnel more environmental spending toward “disadvantaged communities that have been historically marginalized,” partly by issuing grants to grassroots organizations. Previous environmental justice (EJ) grant programs were small in scope. But, with the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in August 2022, a huge pool of grant money became available. EPA administrator Michael Regan told reporters, “We’re going from tens of thousands of dollars to developing and designing a program that will distribute billions.”
More than a year and a half later, it remains hard to nail down just where the Biden administration’s billions in EJ grants will wind up. Money is being distributed through a confusing variety of programs, and the process of identifying recipients is ongoing. To help outsource the job of sifting through proposals, the EPA last year designated 11 institutions as “Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmakers.” These groups are empowered to make subgrants directly to community organizations, under streamlined EPA oversight. In all, the Biden administration has entrusted these outfits with distributing a staggering $600 million in funding. The money is expected to start flowing this summer.
The EPA’s grantmakers include a number of educational institutions and left-leaning nonprofits. For example, the EPA chose Fordham University as its lead grantmaker in the New York region. Fordham, in turn, lists as partners two nonprofits that oppose immigration enforcement. (One, the New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice, states on its website: “NJAIJ believes in the human right to migrate, regardless of citizenship or political status.”) Neither group claims expertise in environmental issues. Given that the IRA’s eligibility requirements for EJ grants are extremely vague, however, perhaps that’s not a problem. Almost any activity that could help “spur economic opportunity for disadvantaged communities” (in the words of Biden’s EJ executive order) might qualify.
Perhaps the most prominent—and problematic—EPA grantmaker is the Berkeley, California-based Climate Justice Alliance. The CJA is a consortium of mostly far-left activist groups. It describes its mission as working for “regenerative economic solutions and ecological justice—under a framework that challenges capitalism and both white supremacy and hetero-patriarchy.” The group is a vigorous proponent of the omnicause, embracing almost every left-wing concern as a manifestation of climate change. For example, the CJA website proclaims: “The path to climate justice travels through a free Palestine.” MacDougald notes that the Grassroots Global Justice Alliance, one of CJA’s affiliated groups, “organized an illegal anti-Israel protest in the Capitol Rotunda in December at which more than 50 activists were arrested.”
The CJA website also includes a section dedicated to the cause known as Stop Cop City. It refers to an effort to halt the construction of an 85-acre police and firefighter training center outside Atlanta. Rag-tag activists from around the country have gathered around the facility since 2021. They have repeatedly battled with police—sometimes with fireworks and Molotov cocktails—and used bolt cutters to enter the site and torch construction equipment. (CJA’s Stop Cop City page features a cartoon illustration of three childlike activists; one brandishes bolt cutters.) The group also backs a legal defense fund for activists arrested in attacks on the training center or in other protests. For those looking for more inspiration, CJA links to an interview with former Black Panther and self-described revolutionary Angela Davis.
The Alliance is not an ideological outlier in Biden’s EJ coalition. On the contrary, when the White House assembled its White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council (WHEJAC), a panel of outside experts meant to provide “horizon-expanding EJ advice and recommendations,” it chose CJA co-chair Elizabeth Yeampierre to help lead the committee. Like other members of the panel, she sees environmental issues through an ideological, not a scientific, lens. “Climate change is the result of a legacy of extraction, of colonialism, of slavery,” Yeampierre told Yale Environment 360. As a group, radical EJ activists tend not to focus on pragmatic ways to reduce pollution and carbon emissions; for them, the real goal is overturning what they see as an exploitative economic and political system. Since these are the voices the White House chose to help shape its EJ policies, we can assume this worldview will dominate grantmaking decisions.
In February 2023, House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer, along with fellow committee member Pat Fallon, wrote to EPA administrator Regan asking for more information on the EPA’s grant programs. They noted that the EPA’s own studies of EJ grants issued in previous years showed sloppy supervision. According to an EPA report, an earlier version of the program funded projects that did “not logically lead to the desired environmental and/or public health [result].” Without better oversight and more clearly defined goals, the congressmen wrote, the EPA’s EJ grant machine risks becoming simply a “slush fund for far-left organizations.”
Since then, the administration has done little to reassure skeptics. To the contrary, the EPA has put at least one far-left organization—CJA—in charge of distributing $50 million in grant money. No doubt, many of the EPA grants will go to worthwhile projects. But money is fungible. A group that gets a large grant to, say, clean up dirty parks or teach children about recycling will also be able to hire more staff and divert more resources to political action.
With graduation behind them, most of the anti-Israel college protesters have stowed away their keffiyehs and moved on to summer vacations or internships. But the peripatetic activists who helped guide and intensify those uprisings are doubtless already planning their next actions. After all, two political conventions are looming. This fall, the college protests will likely flare up again, though by then perhaps focused on a different facet of the omnicause. And, with hundreds of millions in fresh funding flowing through the activist ecosystem, the groups that quietly nurture extremists—like those who firebombed “Cop City,” or who chant “Intifada Revolution!,” or who block bridges in the name of “climate”—will be more emboldened than ever.

Hi, wonderful individuals! 🤍
I'm from the Philippines 🇵🇭 ✅ Born in the Covenant ✅ Primary: Faith in God Award ✅ Young Women: Personal Progress (4x) ✅ Ward Missionary ✅ Seminary 5 years (Old & New Testament, D&C, Pearl of Great Price, Book of Mormon 2x). ✅ Sunday school teacher ✅ Young Women Secretary (5 years) ✅ Relief Society Activity Coordinator ✅ Family History Service Missionary ✅ Institute (4 years) ✅ Temple ordinances (baptism for the dead, endowment, proxy sealing: husband & wife, parents, family) ❌ Applied for Full-time Mission last 2018. My Bishop asked me to have a "down payment" for my mission fund so that it can be processed right away. I paid $646 (₱37,800). But after a few months, my Stake President received a letter from Salt Lake and told me that I'm not going on a mission... without any explanations why I'm not allowed to serve given that I've done everything since Primary. It broke my heart... and my wallet 🤣 because of course there's no chance of getting a "refund". Yet, I still continued to be "worthy."
For so many years, I've always devoted my life to my family and the Mormon church. I've always had 2 or more callings every year. My family, relatives, friends, classmates, and teachers were all looking up to me as a "good example". My highschool classmates even encouraged me to discuss the "Plan of Salvation" in our classroom's white board. Guess what happened? 🤣 They were all shocked and amazed at how complex it was. They always asked me to pray during school events and competitions. I'm the only "Mormon" in our batch, and still they respected my beliefs.
Last 2022, I declined 2 Stake callings just because I have existing callings already and I'm so occupied with my college thesis. I also resigned to my 2 Ward callings. Then, after my college graduation, I felt lost. I'm burned out. I'm asking myself, "now what?"
Since I was a young woman, I've always observed and said to myself and my family that the Mormon church is an "ORGANIZED RELIGION". I've observed that it has many RULES. It has PATTERNS. It has a "COVENANT PATH" (seminary, institute, endowment, mission, BYU, temple marriage, children, etc). Like, "why is everybody doing things so similar?" 🤔 "How about me? I still don't want to date and get married, I don't even want to have kids. I want to further my studies, have a career, and explore life." I also said to myself, "I DON'T want to be racist and homophobic". 😭 My moral values conflict with the church's doctrines in so many ways.
Then, I decided I want to be an USRN in Utah because there's the Salt Lake City, there's a lot of "Mormons" there, I felt I will be "in" because of the same beliefs, same culture, and same religion. That's when I started to “DEEP DIVE” about sa “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints”. I used my COMMON SENSE and CRITICAL THINKING as I did my PERSONAL RESEARCH about the church, its history and teachings. I meditate, pray, write my questions before I sleep, as I sleep my subconscious mind gets to work, approaching the questions from a variety of angles and making connections that may hold the answers. My other questions, observations, and past experiences begin to resurface. When I wake up in the morning, I pray, meditate and do my personal study to find the answers to my questions. I studied from the church resources, gospel library, scriptures, lessons, articles, research findings, news, YouTube, reddit, etc. I analyzed, compared, and connected my findings. I removed my BIASES. After going down a DEEP RABBIT HOLE, finally, I discovered the REAL TRUTH about “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”
"Listen to your BODY and the signals it is giving. One of the most overlooked signals of intuition is CONFUSION."
🤯 It took me just one week to do my personal research to find answers for my questions that I've put on my "shelf" (subconscious mind) for so many years. I organized my findings then I made a summarized script and a presentation using a big sketch pad to present it with my family. I asked my parents first for their permission for our family discussion. These were the main topics that I shared with them: • FREE AGENCY • JOSEPH SMITH • CHURCH NAMES • BOOK OF MORMON • TEMPLE • MISSIONARY WORK • LDS LAW FIRM • HIDDEN AGENDA = LD$ business corporation (Money: Tithes, Fast Offering, etc) - City Creek Mall ("Let's Go Shopping!"🤣) - Beneficial Life - Ensign Peak Advisors - Shell companies - Reserve fund: HUNDRED BILLION of dollars $ • CULT "BITE" Model
Gladly, my dear family respected my decision to leave the Mormon church. I sent my resignation letter last May 20, 2024, 5 years after my Temple Endowment (when I said to myself, "Oh shit! Cult!!!). I decided to leave “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” NOT because I wanted to sin and NOT because I'm a lazy learner. I chose to leave “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” because it is NOT true. It is NOT a church, it is a CORPORATION. Joseph Smith and all the so-called “prophets” and “apostles” were not chosen by God. They DO NOT receive any direct revelations from God. They are NOT special chosen people. I chose to leave because they LIED a lot for so many years. They whitewashed church history. They took advantage of many people for POWER, MONEY, and SEX. These people teach damaging doctrines that lead to many people dying.
As a PERSON with PURE INTENTIONS, I CANNOT support any organization who lies, controls, manipulates, discriminates, abuses, and kills so many people. I choose HONESTY. I choose INTEGRITY. I choose LOVE. 🤍

2024.06.01 11:13 yadavvenugopal Top 10 Movies to Watch When Working From Home

Top 10 Movies to Watch When Working From Home
Working from home has become the de facto standard for companies these days which means things might get monotonous for you folks at times. In case you have a spot of time on your hands while taking a break, here are the top 5 movies to watch while working from home:

Top 10 Movies to Watch When Working From Home

1. Trading Places (1983)

I gleaned the plot of this entire movie with just a single easter egg from the movie "Coming to America" starring Eddie Murphy. I'm not saying the plot of Trading Places is that simplistic, but the movie was that popular and well-executed.
https://preview.redd.it/tb1o1qu4ex3d1.png?width=417&format=png&auto=webp&s=29362d29a4c7987f88bf113a8b4ff3fd5fb9398f
This movie revolves around two wealthy commodities brokers who run a social experiment on two people from different strata of society to settle the nature and nurture debate. Unbeknownst to them the two subjects of the experiments have plans of their own to turn the tide in their favor.
Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche play the role of the Duke brothers, the steel-hearted multi-millionaires who think it fun to play around with the lives of Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy as Lois Winthorpe and Billy Ray Valentine.
There is a lot of buddy comedy material, a cliche yet, well-done storyline, and an expected redemptive story arc.

2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

In case you ever feel like taking a personal day off work, this is the perfect movie to watch. The plot here revolves around a slacker who fakes being sick to go on a joy ride through the city.
https://preview.redd.it/hw5bpateex3d1.png?width=893&format=png&auto=webp&s=f9a408b9e096c5c5a2504387904bb6cd13612663
Mathew Broderick plays the role of Ferris Bueller who convinces his best friend and girlfriend to play hooky while going on an elaborate adventure. There's juvenile behavior, childish pranks, great music, and one awesome Star Wars reference.
https://preview.redd.it/wa67x8tgex3d1.png?width=875&format=png&auto=webp&s=02d6cb7fa9b2d002a4fe03b24dbbe918d94b1248
There have always been theories of Ferris being the split personality persona of his best friend Cameron played by Alan Ruck. Another theory speculates that it is actually Cameron's fever dream, imagining the whole day while being sick at home.
This movie is part of pop culture and is hinted at in the Deadpool movie end credits as well.

3. Tommy Boy (1995)

One of the better movies by David Spade, Tommy Boy is a buddy comedy with a Laurel and Hardy dynamic, graced by the comedic stylings of Chris Farley.
https://preview.redd.it/rgowtn1jex3d1.png?width=428&format=png&auto=webp&s=a0e2180804bb6834b772961c54aa154ec4ea09e1
Chris Farley plays Tommy Callahan III an easygoing goofball who rides on his industrialist father's (Big Tom) coat-tails until he dies unexpectedly thrusting the son into an unwelcome position of responsibility.
Meanwhile, Tommy gets a stepbrother in the form of Richard played by David Spade. As fate would have it, Tommy and Richard need to join forces to save Big Tom's manufacturing plant by getting a big sale order.
Find out Why Two and a Half Men is a Tragic Series with a Laugh Track
Tommy recognizes Richard's finely tuned people skills and puts them to work in procuring a massive sales order to save his father's manufacturing plant and legacy. The movie is a fun-filled road trip that sees the step-brothers forming an unbreakable bond while battling a common problem.

4. Office Space (1999)

The dry humor in this movie is as applicable today as it was when it was released. The employees are frustrated, the boss is a gigantic douche, and growth prospects are non-existent.
https://preview.redd.it/26qglralex3d1.png?width=482&format=png&auto=webp&s=ee95f6b0d79671c53a17868eebf782bb3c3bd4c1
This is not a movie that goes with the laugh track approach wherein the comedy is obvious like in Horrible Bosses. Dark humor is employed in this movie. If you are feeling frustrated at work, then this movie might be highly cathartic for you.
All employees are seething with contempt for their jobs, workplaces, and everything related to those aspects. It is incredibly funny and reminds you of Dilbert comic strips.
Violence against people is not funny. Violence against malfunctioning technology however can be very entertaining as seen below. One of the central themes of the movie is the faulty printer that jams and swallows essential documents at crucial times.
You might like The Marvels: An Unexpectedly Fun Ride
This is what inspires the trio of employees in this movie to vent their pent-up anger against an inanimate object as if it messed up on purpose. You can see how this plays out in the images given below where they take the evil printer to an isolated location and take turns eviscerating it.
https://preview.redd.it/rr5pm81oex3d1.png?width=912&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb638220bd4f442bb923c8ae9339f659914d2399
This movie has been a cult classic for quite some time with references to it in pop culture. Anyone who has watched The Mandalorian will know the reference to TPS reports by Bill Burr in one of the episodes.

5. Being John Malkovich (1999)

One of the most John Malkovich of all Malkovich movies is undoubtedly Being John Malkovich. This movie has the titular actor playing a fictionalized version of himself although the more you watch the more you feel this is him in real life.
John Cusack plays a failing puppeteer who finds a physical door that leads into the mind of the actor John Malkovich after which you can experience life in the actor's body.
https://preview.redd.it/8tvwmlmqex3d1.png?width=405&format=png&auto=webp&s=1464632c74c8f4c8fca563070c149dfc2ef90730
You BECOME John Malkovich.
Catherine Keener plays Cusack's love interest Maxine and Cameron Diaz plays the third locus in this love triangle. There is also a cameo by Charlie Sheen which is interesting.
You might like Examples of Mindfulness and Emotional Awareness in Movies
The sheer absurdity of the movie makes it funny at the beginning, but as the film progresses relationships get knotted with each other, taking a really dark turn. This is a movie that needs to be experienced without a plot summary giving things up.
However, Catherine Keener takes on movies relating to mind control such as in Jordan Peele's Get Out and Brad Bird's Incredibles 2. For some reason, this sends a chill down my spine - does she know something we all don't?

6. School of Rock (2003)

One of my all-time favorite movies is this Jack Black vehicle that feels like his personality made into a movie. Jack Black plays Dewey Finn, a wannabe rockstar who is down on his luck and living with a dweebish roommate Ned Schneebly played by Mike White.
https://preview.redd.it/9yenrzysex3d1.png?width=425&format=png&auto=webp&s=b4beb1ebff0361fd551da33bbd9fe08b6b016088
When Finn gets kicked out of his band, he stumbles upon an opportunity to impersonate his roommate as a substitute teacher at a private school for substantial money. As he goes about pretending to be a teacher he finds that the kids in his class have exceptional musical abilities that he immediately plans on exploiting for money.
However, while chasing money, Finn forms a genuine bond with his students, helps them overcome their challenges, and finds his purpose in life.

This movie has great music, an amazing comedic cast, and original songs, and one of the few to have inspired a successful musical and a not-so-successful series.

7. Yes Man (2008)

A down-on-his-luck man sinking into a self-destructive spiral of despair and negativity comes across a self-help program that changes his life. Jim Carrey's overacting is put to good use in this movie where Carrey learns to say YES to everything in his life - to hilarious effect.
The images given below show the moments when Carrey is introduced to the concept of saying yes, when he meets the semi-cult self-help leader, and when he is taking action as a Yes Man. ( Saying yes to all that life has to offer)

What will you learn from this movie:
  • All skills you pick up from random workshops will be directly useful in everyday situations ( Re: Slumdog Millionaire)
  • Take things literally at first when attending a self-help workshop

8. Up in the Air (2009)

George Clooney at his dramatic best is something you wouldn't wanna miss. As an instance of the old ushering in the young at a corporate workplace, this is insightful and entertaining at the same time.
Clooney serves as a contrast against the vulnerability of a corporate drone while being considerate to the people he fires - for a living. The tables are turned however when a young ivy-leaguer decides that the company needs a makeover.
Also, read Netflix Movie Review: Don't Look Up
The whole movie is about Clooney training his replacement and getting a dose of his bitter medicine in the process.

The cinematography is great in this movie, with beautiful aerial shots and stills portraying silence and contemplation. They explore loneliness and self-discovery in Up in the Air.
This is a quiet movie with a slow pace and great acting. You get to see many metaphors play out throughout the movie.

9. Horrible Bosses (2011)

Taking the a**hole boss stereotype to the max, Horrible Bosses is a laugh riot with a lot of physical comedy and dirty jokes aplenty. Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day play Nick, Kurt, and Dale, the hapless employees with a monstrous boss.
Explore Into the Spiderverse: Every Spider-Man Movie Franchise
The comedy in this movie is due to the great chemistry shared by the three actors shown below. They always end up quarreling and at each other's throats, but make it through dire straits through sheer dumb luck.

Anyone looking for a whole load of laughs will find this movie delightful, with Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, and Julie Bowen adding to the comedy.

10. The Intern (2015)

Nancy Meyers always makes pleasant movies, leaving you feeling all warm and fuzzy by the end. This movie is no exception with Robert De Niro playing a man (Ben) who thinks that "he still has music left in him," and Anne Hathaway playing the role of a young CEO (Jules) running a growing e-commerce start-up.
https://preview.redd.it/l5iseqn6fx3d1.png?width=430&format=png&auto=webp&s=6429310ef5af49ff376ad39b209362706f8c3b34
The movie brings both the actors together by having DeNiro volunteer as a Senior (Citizen) Intern at Hathaway's company. De Niro and Hathaway form an unlikely bond that enriches their lives and watching this happen onscreen is a genuine joy.
Check out Cheerful Episodes of Star Trek The Next Generation and The Original Series
You also get memorable performances from comedy regulars such as Adam Devine, and Zack Pearlman, and a great cameo by Rene Russo. One of the cutest actors in this movie is JoJo Kushner playing the adorable child of the CEO and she does an amazing job, adding to how warm and fuzzy the movie makes you feel.

Is it OK to watch TV while working from home?

Now, this is an interesting question. The purpose of this post is not to make you drop all you're doing and start streaming content.
In case you are on a break from work (Lunch/Tea) or experiencing unexpected downtime, then it's good to have a backup playlist of movies. You can stream a show or watch part of a movie when you are taking a break from work tasks.
Check out El Conde: A Quirky and Fun Chilean Film on Netflix

What should I binge-watch while working from home?

If you are working from home, then I would advise you not to binge anything during work hours and even during your off-time. Binging content means spending more than an hour of your time watching consecutive episodes of a show or two complete movies back to back.
Binge-watching is best done over the weekend when there's no other good alternative such as hanging out with your friends.

2024.06.01 10:57 Zifti Leaders' No Deposition Option: Cancellation

I am about to receive a tenancy agreement (currently waiting for referencing) for a property led by Leaders and have been pushed into using their No Deposit Option (NDO) as they highlighted that the landlord prefers someone with this scheme as well as that I will profit from discounts on utilities. In short, the scheme seems to entails paying £56 a month instead of a deposit while getting access to some legal advice as well as discount portal.
However, after submitting my application (in which the NDO is also briefly mentioned) through their platform, including paying the holding deposit, I have now received access to their discount portal and realised that there is really nothing of value for me as I have similar or better discounts already through my employer. Further, and as also mentioned to Leaders during the call where they informed me about the "need" for the NDO to be considered by the landlord (or at least to improve my chances), I would have sufficient funds to cover a regular deposit.
Given the limited information provided thus far, I first misunderstood the advantages for the landlord and assumed that they also get some discounts, which is why they would be keen on it. Accordingly, I got back to Leaders via email with the request to propose to the landlord the use of a regular deposit while also offering a marginal increase in rent to make up for any potential loss in savings on their end, which was responded to with "They wish to stay on the terms agreed of the no deposit option as this offers many benefits to you and the landlord".
The flat is generally nice and located in an English city with a nightmare-ish housing market, so I would prefer to not destroy my chances. However, I am also not too inclined in paying for this NDO when I could simply have a regular deposit. From the application submission form, I remember that the NDO can be cancelled after three months and replaced by a regular deposit, which is what I am currently considering as I fear that, if I try to insist on having a regular deposit now, I would not only lose the chance to get the property but also the already paid holding fee.
Hence, I am wondering if anyone has experience with later cancellations of Leader's NDO. Is the landlord permitted to kick me out of the flat if I change this scheme during the tenancy? While I have not yet received a contract with any specifics, I was able to find at least an extract of it online.
Also, if I insist on having my application changed to a regular deposit now (without retracting it), would I lose the holding fee if not selected because of that? Note that, during the online application, the holding fee was paid prior to accepting the NDO option, so I have the feeling that, if the application fails because of the NDO, the fee should not be affected.
Any help is much appreciated as I am really stressed out about it.

2024.06.01 09:54 exsaphhi Zimbabwe and New Caledonia are the point (and why that’s not what is happening here)

The more conspiracist someone in New Zealand is, the more likely they are to bring up Zimbabwe. I know that because I have a cooker in my family, and by god, you’d think the place was his home country for the amount he talks about it. But it’s become a real conspiracy for the right, and an angle from verified bad actor accounts that was modded out of this sub at our beginning.
And the reason why there’s a direct correlation between conspiracists and Zimbabwe stans is that you can’t help but notice their fears of history repeating fall apart somewhat when you actually look into it. For a start, you can blame one person for the deaths and economic devastation caused by Mugabe, and that Tony Blair, because he kicked the whole thing off when he walked back Thatcher’s promise of 50% of the compensation for white landowners. Thatcher did like one decent thing and Blair came in and messed it up. Not without context. But through its entire history, it is the UK’s choices and the choices of her colonial government there that spur change and negative outcomes in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe was first thought to be mineral rich at its early 1890 settlement, and a lot of money was put into getting prospectors to Southern Rhodesia. When this return didn’t eventuate, land was given to the settlers instead in hope their farming could become productive enough to cover the settlements continuing administrative costs. By 1986 they had distributed 16 million hectares, a sixth of Southern Rhodesia, and by 1917, this was up to 21.5 million hectares. However, this expanse of farming would cause friction of land rights and grazing rights with the two resident groups already living there. Cattle in the region expanded from about 60 000, owned mostly by the preexisting Ndebele and Shona peoples, to up to 2 million split evenly between both groups, leading to overgrazing and land competition.
The solution in the 1930s by the colonial government was a segregated land distribution method split into five parts, with the best 3/5 being reserved for white owners and the much more unusable remainder of the land being split amongst black land owners — despite them being greater in number than white people. White people had so much productive land they literally couldn’t farm it all, while the remaining Tribal Trust land was still being overfarmed, forcing black Rhodesians to seek work in cities and the colonial government to introduce forced destocking measures (sell or slaughter excess animals), as well as putting aside 7.2 million more acres for native farmers to purchase.
The 50s saw attempts at redistribution that ultimately failed and authority for this would then be vested the traditional tribal leaders.
The beginning of the 60s were an attempt to introduce a semblance of actual land parity, splitting the land 50/50 with whites and blacks — unfortunately this didn’t work very well because black people greatly outnumbered white people, and the fertile land was still just given to whites. Abuses of the system also saw white people legally shift their boundaries to claim black land resulting in evictions that would create Nationalist sympathies leading to the following war.
60s-70s was the Rhodesian Bush War between three groups, one of them being the colonial government, and resulting in Mugabe taking power. He was left juggling the land issue along with the cohesion of his new coalition. Farmer workers had fled to cities during the fighting and been organised into guarded settlements following state suppression of armed conflicts. More land was made available to purchase by people of any race, and then race-based ownership was abolished completely in 1979. Despite this, white farmers owned 73% of fertile land and contributed 80% of agricultural output.
Under a doctrine of willing buyer, willing seller for at least ten years, the US and the UK agreed to finance part of the redistribution costs, and Southern Rhodesia was recognised as finally-independent Zimbabwe. However, land inequality and erosion of black land due to forced overfarming continued, but white-owned commercial farms were reduced by about 20% by 1987, and progress was continued into the 90s. However corruption issues began to emerge with land and leases going to Mugabe’s family and political associates as well as other powerful people. Donor and investor states became concerned with who was benefitting, heightened when Mugabe took powers to supersede the courts. He held that land was a political matter only, not judicial.
British opinion in funding this programme would deteriorate, until the Short and the then-Labour government would deny their obligation to support the redistribution programme.
I should make it clear that we do not accept that Britain has a special responsibility to meet the costs of land purchase in Zimbabwe. We are a new government from diverse backgrounds without links to former colonial interests. My own origins are Irish and, as you know, we were colonised, not colonisers.
In June 1998, the Zimbabwe government published its "policy framework" on the Land Reform and Resettlement Programme Phase II (LRRP II), which envisaged the compulsory purchase over five years of 50,000 square kilometres from the 112,000 square kilometres owned by white commercial farmers, public corporations, churches, non-governmental organisations and multinational companies. Broken down, the 50,000 square kilometres meant that every year between 1998 and 2003, the government intended to purchase 10,000 square kilometres for redistribution.
In September 1998, the government called a donors conference in Harare on LRRP II to inform the donor community and involve them in the program: Forty-eight countries and international organisations attended and unanimously endorsed the land program, saying it was essential for poverty reduction, political stability and economic growth. They agreed that the inception phase, covering the first 24 months, should start immediately, particularly appreciating the political imperative and urgency of the proposal.
The Commercial Farmers Union freely offered to sell the government 15,000 square kilometres for redistribution, but landowners once again dragged their feet. In response to moves by the National Constitutional Assembly, a group of academics, trade unionists and other political activists, the government drafted a new constitution. The draft was discussed widely by the public in formal meetings and amended to include restrictions on presidential powers, limits to the presidential term of office, and an age limit of 70 for presidential candidates. This was not seen as a suitable outcome for the government, so the proposals were amended to replace those clauses with one to compulsorily acquire land for redistribution without compensation. The opposition mostly boycotted the drafting stage of the constitution claiming that this new version was to entrench Mugabe politically.
Guerrilla veterans of the Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA) and Zimbabwe People's Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) began to emerge as a radical force in the land issue around this time. The guerrillas forcefully presented their position that white-owned land in Zimbabwe was rightfully theirs, on account of promises made to them during the Rhodesian Bush War. Calls for accelerated land reform were also echoed by an affluent urban class of black Zimbabweans who were interested in making inroads into commercial farming, with public assistance.
The government held a referendum on the new constitution on 12–13 February 2000, despite having a sufficiently large majority in parliament to pass any amendment it wished. Had it been approved, the new constitution would have empowered the government to acquire land compulsorily without compensation. Despite vast support in the media, the new constitution was defeated, 55% to 45%.
In response, a pro-Mugabe group marched on white owned farms, forcing them and their usually-black workers off their farms without compensation. In the subsequent years of land confiscation, several farm owners and more workers would be killed.
Some of this land ended up under the control of Mugabe and other politicians, however by 2011, 238,000 households had been apportioned from 10 million hectares of land, an improvement of 3.5 million over the 20 years up until 1998. In 2019, white Zimbabwean farmers accepted $17 million USD in compensation, and in 2020 the Zimbabwe government would commit to paying back a further 3.5 billion.
How does this relate to New Zealand?
Well let’s start with the obvious: land distribution issues do not go away because you want them to, nor will democracy protect you from it if you shit on the people you took the land from. Zimbabwe happened because landowners dragged their feet in every decade for a century, and a radicalised political faction springing from this injustice decided legal methods were not the way to go. By the time people were willing to come to the table to resolve it, they were a good fifty behind when they should have and it was too late.
Secondly, picking and choosing what you give back doesn’t work if you’re still just fucking over the tribes you’re giving stuff to to advantage yourself. If you say, give someone a couple of million dollars of value in exchange for the entire canterbury and otago regions, they may decide in 30 years time that wasn’t a very fair deal. And they’re probably right.
Thirdly, black people are not doing well right now in Zimbabwe and neither are white people. But the black people already weren’t doing well. You may look at Zimbabwe and say, well they’ve screwed over their own economy there. But they didn’t. They screwed over the white economy that too many of them already weren’t benefitting from. You see the stability a strong economy gives you and think that other people are benefitting too; Zimbabwe did get a lot out of their land in the 1900s due to colonial investment. But it didn’t benefit all people, and the failure to lift everyone in the rising tide sunk ALL the ships.
The Treaty idea of Partnership is the compromise. Giving back tiny bits of land and small change is the baby steps. Start taking us backwards and you’ll make Maori realise just how shortchanged they’ve been, and the natural result of that is not that they go away, it’s that they start demanding more.
But the level of disenfranchisement, of disrespect, of disempowerment does have to reach a much more egregious level than the situation we have here to result in widespread violence. Six months of Shane Jones does not a civil war make. It is a long, long process to get to a point where a country is that divided, and a lot of legitimate legal, political, and negotiating instruments have to fail. There is also a certain level of disinvestment people have to feel in the overall system to throw what they have away — there’s a reason socialist revolutions don’t come from peaceful, placated societies, even the ones educated enough to know there is something wrong. So therefore, progress must be made gradually through peace and cooperation, because unilateral force always has lasting negative consequences. Attempts to forge ahead with reform despite unhappiness of particular groups, even when legally decided will work out worse for everyone.
There are going to be a million opportunities to turn this ship around. This relationship is nowhere near beyond repair, even between this government and iwi. If Luxon had a spine, he would sit down with them and promise to reverse course, and probably send us all back to the polls as a result. He won’t. But I’m pretty confident he won’t win the next election either, whenever it is, and this country isn’t nearly so divided enough to split down the middle along race grounds, no matter what Seymour wants. But to unify, to meet in the middle, you have to stop considering what you think is fair and start hearing what the other group wants and why.
Otherwise we’re just letting corrupt politicians make land grabs while they cut us in half.

Ive officially decided to stop supporting local comic shops, and I will no longer be tolerating their disrespect. I'm still a HUGE fan and advocate of Physical Media, so I wont be switching to digital. Instead I'm just going to be ordering all of my comics online. It is INSANE how CHEAP you can get comics if you preorder them online. Mycomicshop.com literally is 35 PERCENT OFF preorders. I know this might sound like a ad, but it really isn't lmao, even Midtown comics offer HUGE discounts on pre orders.
The comic shops where I live, dont value their customers. Most of the workers are socially awkward, and disgruntled, and feel like its a chore to help you with literally ANYTHING. At this one shop, i literally called and gave the guy my information to set up a Pull for Ultimate Spider-Man Issue 1, and he confirmed he would do it. 1 week later I walk in, and there is no pull for me. Tried creating one AGAIN a month later, and i added a bunch of books. once again, i walk 2 two weeks later, and they didn't set up the pull. Mind you I've given this particular shop EASILY over 500 dollars, from buying comics. I went to another one, and while the people there are nice, and they have decent stock, I just dont feel comfortable shopping there because the workers CONSTANTLY WATCH YOU, like youre going to steal something. They take your bag when you walk in, and just watch you the entire time. i remember I was bagging and boarding my books that I had JUST brought, and the guy was just standing a few feet behind me, monitoring me. Ive easily give nearly 1000 dollars to this shop aswell.
I don't have to deal with this shit. I can get my books more convenient, SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper, and the EXACT variants i want online, without have to deal with disgruntled weirdos. it hurts me too because i LOVE comic shops, just being there makes me feel at home, but i don't think its truly worth dealing with such bad customer service. These shops KNOW that more people are reading digitally or just ordering their books online nowadays, so you'd think they would at least TRY to make you feel welcome, and not treat you like a criminal but i guess not. Listen if your comic shop treats you with dignity, respect, and appreciation, by all means go there! But if they don't, PLEASE let them die and close down, and buy your books online. Sure there's a shipping fee, but you're also using gas money to get to these shops anyway so. The next time i EVER will give these crummy shops my money, is when they are doing their 'EVERYTHING MUST GO" sale, and going out of business. Like Joker said: "YOU Get what you F**CKING DESERVE!"

2024.06.01 08:47 Intelligent-Pause510 My very unpopular opinion: Turkey has one of the best if not the best focus trees, and you should give it another go.

Before I begin I must say that I am not a Turkish nationalist by any stretch of the imagination just in case you were wondering.
A ton of people seem to hate the Turkish focus tree online and I think it's well justified from the perspective most people look at it from. If you want to get into the war early with any decent strength you pretty much have to beeline the military focus trees at the expense developing your economy. I've seen many people complain that doing this means it's not a good idea to enter the war until 1942 or 1943.
In my opinion I love that design. I actually think more countries that are minor powers and were struggling to get going should have to choose between getting involved early while weak, or building up and then joining later when you're stronger.
Every time I've played turkey I always spend the first 5 years of the game sucking up to all the different factions and turning my country into an economic powerhouse, going from a measly 16 factories to around 80 most games by 1941. By then I usually have some strong infantry, and fresh modern tank divisions, meanwhile the rest of the world is starting to get a bit exhausted by the fighting.
Joining that late means you can have a decisive impact on the war and turn the tide for any of the major factions. Joining the Soviet invasion while the Germans are already slugging it out and both sides are deeply entrenched lets you completely change the situation very quickly with your new modern military.
Joining the allies in the mid-40s when most of the Balkans has likely been conquered or joined the axis gives you an opportunity strike there exposed flank while they're all busy in Russia.
I actually think the Ottoman empire path is by far the worst path in the game because it's not very original, not very realistic, and not very fun.I bet most people who have played turkey have actually tried this path while ignoring the other ones which are imo a lot cooler.
The balkan path is definitely one of the hardest ones, especially because if you play your cards wrong you could end up fighting both the axis and the Soviets, but it's fun to try to lead a motley crew of nations that historically got pretty shit on during this timeframe against the big bad guys.
The center path is where it's really at though, you get the option to basically buddy up with everyone without actually joining their alliances and get them to give you all sorts of cool stuff. If you maximize your political power gain, you can actually get a lot of factories from the various people of Europe only to turn around and back stab them a few years later for the glory of the Turks!
In my opinion the strongest path is actually the anti-bolshevik Accord where you get a ton of free building slots and some national spirits that upgrade your military. You are of course free to dismantle this faction and join whoever you'd like. The great thing about the middle path is you can actually join most factions as any ideology, which lets you be a little rat and backstab whoever's the weakest. The weakest path is probably the Italian alliance since you're basically just making the discount axis.
The allied path is fun, but in my opinion getting the British land in the Middle East is pretty useless, because it's all non-core land with no resources, factories, or people. I recommend most people who want to do a game with the allies to do the anti-bolshevik Accord, and then just dismantle your faction and join the allies manually.
Joining the axis really lets you go hard on that pan turkism larp, and you get a lot of bonuses to fighting in the cold which can be really useful if you're trying to form turan. I usually don't join the war against the Allies until the comintern is defeated.
I also really like the late game path for trying to form Turan. It makes for a very rewarding story of taking a country that was poor as shit with a terrible military into one of the preeminent powers of the old world.
I think the biggest drawback for turkey is that many other countries that had no business starting major military campaigns that early are able to do so thanks to their focus trees. I personally find the game a lot more interesting when you have countries building up on the sidelines but not quite in the war yet, but when they do join it has a Major impact.
All in all, if you have previously not tried turkey because of all the negative comments about it, or try to and didn't like it because you did the Ottoman empire path or try to get into the war right when it started, consider giving it another try or you take your time to build up a strong economy and the state of the art military that can crush your tired opponents and make even the biggest Turkish ultra nationalist blush.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk

2024.06.01 08:44 Quantum-Bot Fun fact: you can get max power on Megalodon as soon as you buy it

Fun fact: you can get max power on Megalodon as soon as you buy it
Explanation:
As of the recent price reworks with beast handler, it is now most cost efficient to use tier 3 beasts for merging; this is true for all 3 paths.
Getting a tier 5 beast requires you to get 3 supporting tier 4 handlers, which are much less cost efficient for the amount of beast power they provide but it doesn’t require you to keep them afterward, so I wondered how much extra beast power you could get by selling the tier 4 handlers immediately after getting your tier 5 beast.
Top path has by far the biggest price jump from tier 3 to tier 4 so I decided to try it first. As it turns out, you can get 12 great whites (enough to max out Megalodon’s beast power) for less than the sell value of your initial 3 Orcas as long as you get them all under a discount village and have monkey knowledge enabled! Without the relevant MK (better sell deals) all you need is a favored trades buccaneer to raise the sellback value of the orcas.
This is technically possible with Gigantosaurus too, but you would need to have MK, a favored trades, and get everything under triple village discount for it to work, which is probably too much effort to be worth it. Still, the point still stands that you can get significantly higher beast power on all three tier 5 beasts simply by selling the tier 4 supporting handlers immediately after and spending that money on tier 3’s instead.
I did this in hard mode, although it should work in any difficulty where you can sell stuff since all the prices scale evenly.
I found most of this information using an excel spreadsheet I created specifically to analyze Beast Handler merging strategy. If people are interested I will make a second post going more into detail about my findings and sharing the spreadsheet for others to play around with.

2024.06.01 07:46 tssmn [PI] You’ve noticed a pattern. Whenever you try dieting your favorite restaurant has an unlimited nacho night or your friend has coupons for a free Pizza. It’s the apocalypse, rations are running low. As a joke, you say you’re going on a diet. Seemingly on que, you hear a knock on your bunker door.

Let's play a game, you and I.
Find a mirror and stand in front of it; naked, if it's all the same to you. Before you protest, humor me a little. Look at your body - examine it, really get in there with those beady little eyes of yours - and then, when you've gotten past the absurdity of staring at your nude reflection, count all the bones you think you can see.
If you reached the high double-digits, congratulations! You should probably eat more. A lack of food is unhealthy.
But, let's say you're on a diet. I was, once. Before everything went to shit, I was a fat fuck stowed away in the back of someone else's house, glued to their computer, scouring social media and getting angry over the pruned, fabricated, perfect lives everyone else seemed to have. I was angry - so angry that I decided that I wanted to do something about it, so - maybe like you - I went on a diet. My goal? Get thin, get control of my life, wrest it away from the clutches of impending doom, make something of my time on this planet, maybe find a purpose.
Life, however, is funny - or cruel, depending on how full your glass is. Whenever I tried dieting, something always happened to get in the way. My favorite haunt started having trivia nights - unlimited nachos. Jake, a good friend of mine, had a punch card for discounts on sub sandwiches. I once got a piece of mail that told me I won a lifetime supply of corn chips (a scam, thankfully). I started to think that life had it out for me.
Little did I know, life had it out for everyone.
We lost electricity first. As the heat waves picked up, our access to cool air was cut short. Humankind started dropping like flies, by the thousands and even more in the deserts. Some of us were able to adapt before things got too bad, but when the water started to disappear, sweating was akin to suffering.
When we reached a fever pitch in our panic, we got creative. We started breaching bunkers, ripping the rich out of their hovels and taking everything they had. Some were so desperate that they took the slogan "eat the rich" to where you're probably thinking they did. Magic trick time. Were you thinking cannibalism? What a freak.
Not you; them. They did take it literally.
Food got scarce. Starvation and dehydration set in. We lost communication with people in distant places and it felt like everything was truly coming to an end.
Do you like anecdotes?
One time, I was on scavenging duty with a friend of mine. Not Jake, unfortunately - he died two days into the apocalypse after getting hit by a bus - but this guy? He was alright. Anyway, we found a small mom-and-pop shop on a street corner. The face of the shop was dusty and beige, couldn't see through the windows but, somehow, it was untouched, or so we thought. When we broke the windows and slipped inside, the shelves were almost all empty.
My friend found a wrapped Twinkie and showed it to me. "Hey, look," he said, "found you a little treat, skinny."
When I tell you this Twinkie looked like a piece of shit only the Toxic Avenger would push out of his ass, I mean it. Heavily discolored, easily broken apart, and the only thing separating me from an impossibly complex stench of decay was this razor-thin wrapper. It must've sat in the heat for ages, horrendously warping from one of America's most beloved snack cakes into a gangrenous mockery of what could pass as food.
"Nah," I said, putting on a fake smile, "I'm on a diet."
It was a joke. It was supposed to be a joke, but like I said - life is funny.
Our heads both turned when we heard a loud thud across the room. Of course, we were shaken, didn't know what to expect, so we approached it cautiously, guns drawn, and when we had sight of the cause, we were stunned. Sitting on the floor on its side was a massive can of ranch beans. It must've weighed close to five or six pounds. Even crazier and more confusing? It was room temp, like it just appeared out of thin air, untouched by the heat.
I tested something a few days later. We were running out of bottled water. Somebody made a joke about drinking piss - not to me, just to another person, but I responded that I was on a diet. Fifteen minutes later, we had a group come back from scavenging with the widest smiles, dragging a full pallet of water bottles stacked six feet high on a pallet jack.
I started doing it more surreptitiously, any time that we needed to eat or drink something, and I learned that there were rules. For example, saying it multiple times in a row didn't do anything, the gift was singular. The number of people around me or the loudness of the statement didn't matter - the gifts were random in quantity. Abuse it, and the gift would come rotten or with some other risk.
Once I had a grasp on it, we lived well, at least for a time. When the radiation storms started to sweep through, a lot of people started getting sick, including me, and there was no gift for saying I was feeling ill. It was all so sudden and severe, and it took me before almost anyone else. Real bummer, if you ask me, because I never got to learn what happened to the rest of my group. Part of me hopes they made it out of that place and found a way to survive. If you happen to find them, tell them I said hello.
57, by the way. I counted 57 bones when I looked. Just thought you should know.
Original prompt by u/MaliciousOnions. You can (probably) find this and more on StoriesInTheStatic.

2024.06.01 07:45 rmacca My first week after upgrading to a Lelit Bianca V3

Our household has been running a Breville Barista Express for about 8 years now and for the last couple of years I have had an itch to upgrade...not because the Barista Express is bad, more I felt it was time to move on.
In dreamland I settled on the Lelit Bianca V3 because of price for a dual boiler and as well as the group head with flow control to try differe things down the track. There is a lot on the market and I'm sure people will agree and disagree on my decision there, but it was where I settled after extensive reading and looking at what's out there.
This week my wife surprised me with one for my birthday, and I wanted to share some things here.
First off the machine is great! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a level up in that price range. Do look for a good deal though as you can save a fair whack from list price of you shop around. I am not disappointed at all with it.
Now the keen observer here will say what aovit the grinder though, the Barista Express has one built in...well...this is where we get into the thick of it.
For the first couple of days we didn't have one, and while I was one for sorting a grinder out my wife was insistent we could use...the Thermomix...
Don't...even if...just don't. Don't even try to save a marriage to agree there, the inconsistency with blending is not even worth considering and if you do be prepared to understand what bad coffee tastes like. With that said you learn a lot about a machine and coffee grinds in the process.
I got some fresh ground coffee day 3 as shops were open and the difference was amazing.
So then came the juggle, I was looking at a vs3, then at an AllGround (mostly because of price there as it was heavily discounted). In the scheme of things I felt the AllGround was overkill with a touch screen and I didn't love the look. But then we were offered a DS64 at a good price so settled there.
Four days in it arrives and we're brewing. The difference is like comparing a Budweiser to a decent microbrewery...some people wouldn't know or care...but if you know, you know.
Now after spending a bit of time dialing it in, that first afternoon I got a nice decent espresso out and was happy. Overnight I was excited for that first coffee in the morning...
Day 5 5am start with kids waking up was barely a concen as we were making coffee.
Measured it out... set it up...muddy water came out.
I was shattered. I looked at the dials, nothing changed, tracked through the process carefully several times...different pics, different times, redialed in the coffee and then went to brew it again and it wasn't working. I would dial it in and then the a coffee or two later after that was shit...
I spent an hour searching through the process to conclude it was the scales. The bloody scales had a tendency to just measure incorrectly, and inconsistently.
So I carefully resorted to double checking and even triple checking the measurements before grinding...and bam...we were on track.
Day 7 now and we're still on track. While I need to give the scales a floatation test at some stage (in that they need to go) it's all I have for the moment and I'm making do with them.
In all I don't regret the process and while I'm making coffee now with decent flavour and head, I'm sure it can be better and it's a week so no pressure for a first machine after upgrading.
At the moment, though it's consistent, and better than what we were getting with the Barista (not that it was bad).
The biggest takeaways here are when upgrading it's different but take it as a challenge. If it goes bad go back to basics.
And most of all...a grinder makes as much bloody difference. I know you know...but really...don't even...not even to save a marriage (buying a grinder after a couple of bad coffees will do that anyway).
Enjoy the brew...try new things and a bad coffee still has things you can take away.

2024.06.01 06:32 Voltes-Drifter-2187 Live-Action Voltron Cinematic Universe - conceptual movie treatment for Vehicle Voltron I: The Mightiest of Saviors Rise (first film of Phase I - The Omega Comet Saga) [Part II]

The Story Breakdown
Prologue
1) From days of long ago, from uncharted regions of the Universe, comes a legend. The legend of the Voltrons: Defenders of the Universe. Three mighty robots, loved by good, feared by evil. As the Voltrons' legend grew, peace settled across the galaxies. On Planet Earth, a Galaxy Alliance had been formed. Together with the good planets of our Solar System, they maintained peace throughout the known Universe until a new, horrible set of menaces threatened the galaxies. The Voltrons are needed to save innocent worlds of the galaxies once more. This is the story of the super force of space explorers. Specially trained, entrusted and sent by the Alliance with the ancient secrets of how to assemble and bring back, Vehicle Voltron: Defender of the Near Universe (Milky Way Galaxy).
Act I
2) We open on scenes of the Vehicle Voltron Force before they even applied to the Galaxy Alliance Academy. Cinda and Krik watch out for each other as childhood friends growing up on the strife-laden planet Dulcinea. Marvin cheers on his friend Hutch at the 2976 Olympics in weightlifting while Lisa swims her way to a victory. Young little Tangor entertains friends and family at a birthday party on planet Galileo by playing a virtuoso lounge piano repertoire. And Cliff was a professional racing driver racing his way to the winner's circle in Australian championship touring car races until he builds and launches an unsafe rocket which crashes outside the University he is studying at. A young James Hawkins comforts Cliff and invites him to join the Alliance.
3) At the Galaxy Alliance Fleet Headquarters in Tokyo Bay, Jeff and Chip are saying goodbye to their families as they prepare to board the docked heavy exploration and battle cruiser the Explorer/Rugger Guard. Hurrying aboard, Jeff hurries to meet with his old classmates Krik and Cliff who are now his shipmates and partners as they meet with their Commanding Officer, Captain Newley; and Executive Officer, Commander Hawkins. From the nearby docks, well-wishers and family members give the Explorer a well-deserved sendoff on its mission to chart the Milky Way Galaxy's unknown sectors and to find new planets to colonize and or terraform to solve problems of overpopulation and resource scarcity. As he does so, Jeff cannot help but think of his older sister.
4) It is the year 2981, and the Explorer lifts off out of the waters of Tokyo Bay and rises into the sky to meet up with a required fleet of support ships for both fuel, food, water, waste management, munitions and even their escorts of offense and defense. Captain Newley comes to the Crew Lounge before his science officer Professor Page arrives to hand out assignments. It will be some time between going to hyperskip upon exiting the Solar System and exiting hyperskip in their first potential port of call - the Likon system. While they wait, the Captain chooses to pass the time by telling the crew the story from his childhood of Vehicle Voltron, and his hopes of maybe recovering it to protect the Alliance. Cliff and Krik can tell their is tension between Newley and Jeff.
5) Professor Page then hands out assignments courtesy of both Newley and Hawkins. Jeff Aki Manabu #1 is assigned to lead the AiStrato Fighters Team with Rockford "Rocky" Kai Shinobu #2, Shota Wolo "Wolo" Kreutz #3, young Chipley Yasuo Mutsu "Chip" Stoker #4 and Patricia Ginger "Ginger" Ellington #5. Krik Miranda Keats #6 takes charge of the Sea/Aqua Fighters Team with Lisa Haruka Kaga #7, Saluta Tangor "Tangor" Katz #8, one Shannon Tatsuo Izumo Cochrane #9 and Zandee Barros Carateja #10. Finally, Walter Clifford "Cliff" Jack #11 is given command of the Land/Turbo Terrain Fighters Team with Cinda Moya Qiligasz #12, Modok Mack Chucker #13, Marvin Tasuku Izu #14 and his best friend Kazuto Hutch "Hutch" Nagato #15 rounding the teams all out.
6) The Explorer and her fleet soon arrive in the Likon system, when they sight an imposing-looking starship orbiting the planet. Curious as to its intentions, Newley and Hawkins attempt to open a channel to hail the vessel and make contact. The ship turns to face the fleet and gives an identification as the Skull Ship cruiser (space battleship that can carry Stinger fighters) of Fleet Commander Zabar Gramont who then declares the Explorer and its fleet intruders in the territorial annex of the Drule Empire. The Skull Ship opens fire on the Explorer, forcing down towards the hostile surface of Likon. Jeff, Krik and Cliff help crew and passengers brace for impact as Hawkins and Newley fight to regain flight control near where Janet had been reported missing.
Act II
7) Zabar reports the intruders and actions taken against them to his first superior, Chief Commander Hazar Dorita Teles of the Galvestonian Drules back on the planet of Galveston - which has been christened the Drule Homeworld by its first emperor, Drule I. Hazar arrives at the palace of the current Emperor, Zeppo Corsair, and delivers his report to the Emperor's Viceroy, Throk Al Caponero. From a first glance, it is clear that Throk and Hazar are not the best of friends nor do they seem to get along for the sake of the Empire. Zeppo is definitely concerned about the Alliance-launched space expedition, but he wants Hazar to use what he deems necessary to remove the Explorer quickly but quietly. Some of the rank and file share a look of concern with fellow Hazar.
8) Having managed to safely land the Explorer in a lagoon near a beach, Hawkins and Newley address the crew as they set up camp for the night. Noticing the lowered moods of the crew, Tangor decides to break out his lounge keyboard and play some acoustic lounge tunes to keep the atmosphere high and hopes up. Noticing a strange figure carved in the stones of a cliff near their camp site; Jeff, Cliff and Krik scurry over to check it out. Bringing Newley, Hawkins and Page over to analyze it, Newley is ecstatic that they may actually have found the resting place of the fifteen fighters that form the Vehicle Voltron (known in the ancient texts as Dairugger XV). Hawkins is skeptical, but is willing to organize search parties to determine if it will turn out to indeed be true.
9) A very conflicted Hazar leaves the Imperial Palace for his Skull Ship as one of his Centurions walks alongside him. Unlike the top brass who see the Drule Military as mere numbers to send against their enemies, Hazar has made it a point to know every one of his officers and soldiers' own individual names by heart and on sight. He confers his feelings about the top brass to the Centurion, as they walk back to the dry dock where the Skull Ship is parked. The Centurion worries that they may have awoken and provoked an innocent creature, namely the Galaxy Alliance, into becoming a greater threat than any they have ever faced. Hazar, surprisingly, shares the sentiment as he walks in step with the Centurion. They should have tried negotiating to be left in peace.
10) Back on Likon, the Air Team is to conduct a wingsuit search of the skies to find the cliff that the five buried fighters of Strato Fighter will be found. Wolo and Rocky take time to analyze the air and humidity ratio for the climatology results until Chip reports that the cliff that the five Strato Fighter ships are buried in has just been sighted. Jeff unearths the Command Jet Explorer as #1, Rocky locates the Strato Weapons Module to deem it #2, Wolo finds the red Advanced Recon Helicopter making it #3, Chip comes up to the blue Advanced Recon Helicopter for #4, and Ginger takes the Falcon Jet Fighter as #5 returning to the skies. Powering them up, they fly their fighters back and form Strato Fighter for Captain Newley, Professor Page and Commander Hawkins.
11) In the meantime, Zabar is plotting with a cabal of his own officers to eliminate or at least humiliate Hazar enough so that he himself will become Chief Commander of the Galvestonian Drules instead and maybe even ingratiate himself to Throk and Zeppo. But first, he will have to find a way to draw the Explorer and her support fleet into a trap and destroy them. Zabar locates his opportunity on the habitable garden world of Galateia - if he were to destroy its capital city and the humanoid Galateians' leadership, he could exploit the planet's vast resources for his own as carve out a seat of power there. He orders his Skull Ship and support fleet to lay in a course for the nearest Earth colony planet near the system of Likon as a distraction from the Galateia assault.
Act III
12) Since Lisa and Shannon are the best Terrans in experience with water-based situations, they are the main advisors to Krik as they soon conduct a scuba diving sweep of the water for the sunken fighters that will form the Aqua Fighter. They soon find them and begin preparing to board a fighter to claim as their very own. Krik names the Communications Module #6, Lisa manages to access the red Space Prober to become #7, Tangor stakes his claim on the blue Space Prober for #8, Shannon claims dibs on the blue and red Multi-Wheeled Explorer as #9, and Zandee finishes it with the blue and yellow Multi-Wheeled Explorer as #10. They power their ships up and fly back to the Explorer as the Aqua Fighter whilst at the same time impressing Air Team.
13) En route through hyperskip towards the Alliance world of Galileo, Zabar stands above the hangar of his Skull Ship to address his mass of Centurion soldiers and Stinger fighter pilots. He declares that they will all have the support of thirteen Robeasts to help devastate the Alliance defense forces to draw their attention from their real target in the Galateia system. The thirteen Robeasts platoon consist of Crush Crab, Titanic Tick, Dragonoid, Neo Crush Crab, Antropoda, Cannon Mantis, Cyan Commando, Necro-Thresher, Cyberbug, Spy Crawler, Electrobeast, Mutant Sphere, and the Dread Sinistar piloted by Zabar himself. The laser tanks and Stinger fighters will follow Robeasts in to attack the outer defense posts of Galileo as merely the distractions.
14) It will be a very tough hike as the Land Team sets off for the canyon where the caved in fighters that will combine into the Turbo Terrain Fighter. When it seems as though Hutch cannot carry on, it is in fact Marvin who carries him over his shoulder to keep moving to survive the desert. Modok soon sights the canyon and they make a run for the five Turbo Terrain Fighter component ships. Cliff takes the Jet Radar Station as #11, the black and yellow Rotating Personnel Carrier is nabbed by Cinda for #12, Modok calls dibs on the black and red Armored Equipment Carrier as #13, the yellow All-Terrain Space Vehicle is made #14 by Marvin, and Hutch finishes it with #15 being the black All-Terrain Space Vehicle to take off and make the Turbo Terrain Fighter.
15) Zabar and his Robeasts are already leading squadrons of Stinger fighters on attack runs against the Galaxy Alliance's outer defense posts in the orbit of planet Galileo. The Alliance scrambles every fighter and or capital ship they can to destroy the Stingers and laser tank transports before they can reach the surface of Galileo, and they succeed, but are all cut to pieces by the Robeasts before Zabar orders a retreat and to set a course for the Dulcinea system. The Alliance Planetary Governor overseeing Galileo relays word to the Dulcinea and Earth systems of this attack, and request that aid be sent from the Explorer and her fleet. Hawkins and Newley both receive the distress calls as their three teams return in triumph with Strato, Aqua and Turbo Terrain Fighters.
16) The AiStrato, Sea/Aqua and Land/Turbo Terrain Teams hurry to the bridge of the Explorer to await all the news. Essential repairs made to the Explorer have been completed and they are able to get airborne again, but they have just received distress calls from Wolo's and Tangor's planet Galileo, and both Krik and Cinda's planet of Dulcinea; both of them major member worlds of the Galaxy Alliance's Milky Way Jurisdiction. Modok is now curious as to why the Drules are making passes at well-armed Alliance worlds, but Zandee is correct in a well-educated guess that this is just a test of their strength so to distract from a real target. Doctor Page asks Chip to help him pinpoint habitable planets near the Likon system as they scan nearby planets with atmospheres.
Act IV
17) They detect the habitable and inhabited world of Galateia just one hyperskip jump away from their current location, and it is certainly not under Drule control. Ginger tells Jeff and Captain Newley they will have to move if they are to have any chance of driving the Drules from this part of space, but Commander Hawkins does not want to get all hasty. He wonders if he could maybe contact like-minded Drules on the other side and maybe work out a deal for peace. In response, Ginger points out the complete destruction of the defense outposts surrounding the Dulcinea and Galileo systems that the Drule forces have wrought - they have the Drules' words and actions to go on for the prospect of war. They feel the duty to protect every people possible.
18) Hawkins make another pass to try and make peace with the Drules as he sends via subspace a hyperskip communique to Zabar and his forces. If Zabar and his forces were to stop their needless and fruitless attacks on the Galaxy Alliance and its worlds, both the Empire and the Alliance may be able to formulate a mutually beneficial peace treaty and armistice. Zabar is incensed by the audacity of this infidel human trying to make peace with him, and he responds by sending a video message of Emperor Zeppo via hyperskip communique to the Explorer. As long as there are just 1% chances that any civilization could rise up against and threaten their vast empire, the Drules must take it as the absolute certainties to wipe them out so the empire is safe.
19) This gesture finally puts Hawkins' hopes for peace with the Drules on the back burner for now as he defers to his commanding officer Newley. Jeff, Krik and Cliff report that all fifteen of their three five-member five-ship teams are ready to go. With the Strato, Aqua and Turbo Terrain Fighters capable of splitting and recombining into the Vehicle Voltron, the legend that Newley was told once as a bedtime story may finally be coming true at long last - and there may yet be a chance to bring peace to the galaxies by Voltron. Newley and Hawkins order a course laid in for the Galateia system and that all teams - Air, Land and Sea - scramble to their fighters and prepare for battle with the Drule attack forces. The hangar deck teams are assisted in this by their pilots.
20) Skull Ships and support craft of Zabar's fleet are led by the Robeasts as they close on the Galateia system. Hazar is aboard one of the Skull Ships trailing behind Zabar's to monitor his underling's progress. The thirteen Robeasts then fire salvos of laser fire towards the outer defenses of the planet. As their planet is starting to be rocked by the Drules' attack on their mostly peaceful world, the people of Galateia appeal to their Chieftain to send out a distress signal - for their defenses are adequate for taking down Drule starships such as the Stinger fighters and support craft, but not so many and not against the Robeasts. With that, the Galateian Chieftain decides to call forth the aid of any nearby ships. Galateians rush to find cover from the attacking Drule forces.
21) Reception of the Galateians' distress signal reaches the Explorer and Captain Newley who has good news for the Chieftain. He and his crew have with them the force that can beat back this assault - Dairugger XV (Fifteen), also known as Vehicle Voltron. Aid for the people of Galateia is on the way as of that moment. The Explorer and her vast support fleet prepare to exit hyperskip upon entry to the Galateia system, and the Vehicle Voltron Force rushes via people moving chair conveyor systems to their docked vehicle fighters. Launching out from the triple hangar bay of the Explorer, the fifteen vehicle fighters of the Vehicle Voltron Force begin their planetary entry to assess what Zabar's attack plan is and feeding targeting data to the Explorer's main guns.
Act V
22) Ginger, Lisa and Cinda soon pinpoint the Robeasts' intended target - the capital city of Galateia, its ground perimeter and its sea-based defenses. They will have to hurry in order to stop Zabar and his attack. Jeff and the Air Team bring their fighters together to form the Strato Fighter, Krik and the Sea Team combine their fighters to form the Aqua Fighter, and finally Cliff and the Land Team unite their fighters to form the Turbo Terrain Fighter. Strato Fighter scours the air to find a way through the Robeasts' air blockade as Wolo and Chip start performing calculations and continue feeding targeting data. Turbo Terrain Fighter zooms across the ground to bolster turrets, and Aqua Fighter goes on silent running to lure the air superiority Robeasts into the open.
23) Jeff and his Air Team move in to take on Crush Crab and Titanic Tick. Krik and his Sea Team begin their attack runs on Dragonoid and Neo Crush Crab. Antropoda and Cannon Mantis soon find their mandibles full of fire from Cliff and his Land Team. They all make short work of the monsters. Seven Robeasts which include Zabar's remain, but laser and missile blasts from the Strato, Aqua and Turbo Terrain fighters cannot making a dent in their armor. This is the signal Jeff, Krik and Cliff take so to call for forming Voltron. Activating interlocks, connecting their dynotherms, bringing up their infracells, and setting their mega-thrusters to go; the Vehicle Voltron Force is go to form and battle. A heavenly chorus sounds through the energy (with the Voltron theme).
24) With that signal, the AiStrato, Sea/Aqua and Land/Turbo Terrain teams begin to form Vehicle Voltron for the first time in millennia. Strato Fighter splits to form the Head #1 (Jeff), Upper Torso #2 (Rocky), Right Upper Arm #3 (Wolo), Left Upper Arm #4 (Chip) and Chest Plate #5 (Ginger). Aqua Fighter splits to form the Torso Midriff #6 (Krik), Left Thigh #7 (Lisa), Right Thigh #8 (Tangor), Right Shin #9 (Shannon) and the Left Shin #10 (Zandee). Finally, the Turbo Terrain Fighter splits to form the Lower Torso/Hips #11 (Cliff), Right Forearm #12 (Cinda), Left Forearm #13 (Modok), Right Foot #14 (Marvin) and Left Foot #15 (Hutch). The team cheers as the remaining Robeasts shudder and gasp with fright upon seeing Vehicle Voltron: Defender of the Near Universe.
25) Vehicle Voltron then joins the big battle for Galateia. Cyan Commando, Necro-Thresher, Cyberbug, Spy Crawler, Electrobeast and Mutant Sphere are cut down in that exact order by the Solar Combat Spears, Energy Beam Whip, Eye and Wing Beams, Solar Wind Blast and finally the Spinning Laser Blades. With only the Dread Sinistar being piloted by Zabar left to contend with, the time has come to turn the Spinning Laser Blades into the long-awaited Blazing Sword. Jeff gives the order to charge as Voltron surges forward sword first and makes a powerful slash right through Zabar. Voltron then pumps its fists as Zabar and his Robeast explode off in the distance behind them. With Zabar soundly defeated with shouting curses, Hazar reluctantly orders a retreat.
26) When the signal is given to be clear, the Alliance exploration fleet is given some coordinates to touch down from both Vehicle Voltron Force and the people below. The grateful people of Galateia rally around the Galaxy Alliance Starship Explorer and her support ships to thank the Vehicle Voltron Force for saving their planet. Jeff, Krik and Cliff thank each and every member of their team as they engage in a sharing culture and history with the Galateians meeting with them. The Galaxy Alliance has a new member world as all fifteen members of the Vehicle Voltron Force and its three teams of five people - AiStrato, Sea/Aqua and Land/Turbo Terrain - raise their right hands and jump for joy alongside Vehicle Voltron doing likewise as the camera freezes mid-jump.
Epilogue (Preview Summary for Vehicle Voltron II: The Fall of Hazar)
27) And with the defeat of Commander Zabar; the names of Voltron, Vehicle Voltron and Earth would once again strike fear in the hearts of the Drule Empire and its Milky Way Galaxy vassals the Galvestonians. Even so, Hazar and friend Captain Mongo Drake carry the grim knowledge of the Drule Homeworld -their Planet Galveston - to be doomed to destroy itself by mysterious circumstances within one to three Earth years. Seeing how valiantly the Vehicle Voltron Force fought to protect innocents, this sparks something in Hazar that he will only tell his sister Dorma Sirk and father Mozak Socrat Teles. As Hazar and Commander Hawkins attempt to seek a peace, Throk and Zeppo plot to threaten Hazar's family which is only foiled by a renegade Drule Skull Ship rescuing P.O.W.s...

2024.06.01 05:51 furyfuryfury Where to source the cheapest touchscreens 3.5-5" preferably DSI?

I'm aiming to make a single DIN car radio with some buttons and knobs and whatever is the cheapest display I can get in the 3 1/2 to 5 inch range.
I'm looking at BuyDisplay.com but there's not a big selection of MIPI DSI displays. Where did phone manufacturers get millions of these things back before phone displays blew up to 7", can't I just piggyback on one of those and get maybe 50k-100k a year? Table scraps, basically. I was figuring if I select a display already being built by the truckload I could save quite a bit. Reuse existing tooling, etc.
I plan to build it around the ESP32-P4 which has 2 lanes x 1.5 gbps DSI. I believe Espressif is making a development board with this chip and a big tablet-like display with an ILI9881C controller (since I found a driver for it in their BSP repo). So this 5" with the same controller seems just about perfect. It'll stick out on the faceplate a bit but that's ok. But I'd like to see if I can get it cheaper (with touchscreen). Not sure what their discount % is on orders of tens of thousands at a time.
Crystalfontz wanted a lot more money and I can't make heads or tails of how to find the right kind of display on AliExpress. I see a lot of raspberry pi displays there but those seem like single quantities fit for one off projects, not a place for production quantities...
If there's a significantly cheaper display with a parallel interface, I might consider it, but that takes up a lot of I/O and this chip is not going to have a whole lot to spare after I hook up a tuner, a Bluetooth chip, power management, audio, and buttons. So I'd like to use the dedicated DSI pins on it if I can.
Is there some secret club I can get into to get access to these displays? Or is BuyDisplay the best I can do without being a smart phone manufacturer that's going to buy a million at a time?

Preparing For Travel With An Infant
Traveling with an infant can be a daunting task for many parents. Yet, with the right preparation and mindset, it can also be a rewarding and even magical experience.
Packing for a trip with your little one is like building a bridge to a new destination—it takes careful planning and consideration of the right materials to make sure you get there safely.
When it comes to packing for an infant, stroller selection is key to ensuring a smooth journey. Consider whether you will need an all-terrain stroller or if a lightweight option may better suit your needs.
If you’re looking to save space, consider baby gear rentals at your destination instead of lugging items on the plane or in the car. That way, you can focus on enjoying the journey rather than worrying about what item goes where.
With these tips in mind, families can confidently embark on a journey with their little one in tow!
Choosing The Right Accommodation
Traveling with an infant can be challenging, but it doesn't have to be. Once you've gathered all the necessary items and supplies, it's time to think about choosing the right accommodation for your family.
When selecting a hotel or vacation rental, there are a few key things to consider when ensuring comfort for your little one. Amenities such as cribs, bottle warmers and night lights should be at the top of your list.
Consider other amenities such as:
Room layout: Is there enough space for a crib and other baby items?
Will the room fit any additional needs such as highchairs and booster seats?
Location: Is there easy access to public transportation? Are there nearby parks or attractions for children?
Cleanliness: Does the hotel offer green cleaning products that are safe for babies? Are carpets vacuumed often and bedding changed regularly?
The goal is to find a place where your family can relax and enjoy their time away without worrying about basic comforts. With some research ahead of time, you can easily find the perfect spot that meets all your needs while making sure everyone in the family is comfortable during their stay.
Selecting Baby-Friendly Destinations
When selecting a baby-friendly destination, safety should be top priority.
Before booking your trip, research the destination to make sure it's a safe place to visit with a young child.
Additionally, look for accommodations that make travelling with an infant comfortable and convenient, such as ones that provide cribs, children's meals, or even babysitting services.
Choosing Safe Destinations
For families with infants, choosing baby-friendly destinations is an important part of planning a successful trip.
When selecting your destination, it's essential to consider safety first. Research the political climate, crime rates and other local laws to make sure you're in a safe area for your family.
Additionally, when it comes to choosing airlines, budgeting costs and overall travel time can be key factors in making sure your little one has a comfortable flight. Take into account airline fees for bringing a stroller or car seat and check out their policies on lap infants before you book.
With careful consideration of these elements and thorough research, you'll be able to confidently choose the perfect destination for you and your 6 month old!
Finding Baby-Friendly Accommodations
Once you've chosen the perfect destination, it's time to secure baby-friendly accommodations.
Whether you choose to stay in a hotel or rent a vacation home, make sure to look into amenities that can make your trip easier, such as cribs and high chairs.
If you're staying for an extended period of time, consider booking a suite so that everyone has ample space and comfort.
Additionally, if you're looking for childcare options during your stay, research local daycares and babysitting services in the area.
Lastly, jet lag can be difficult to manage with infants, so don't forget to factor in extra rest when planning activities!
With these details taken care of, you'll be all set for an unforgettable family vacation!
Packing Essentials For A Stress-Free Trip
Taking a trip with an infant can be a daunting task, but with the right preparation and packing essentials, it can be an enjoyable experience. As the old adage goes, “Fail to prepare, prepare to fail” - and when it comes to travelling with a 6 month old, this certainly rings true!
The key to creating a stress-free journey is all about packing light – plan ahead and choose only the items essential for your little one.
You’ll want to pack plenty of nappies, wipes and sanitizing supplies in case of any unexpected messes. When creating your checklist, don't forget to include extra clothes for both yourself and your baby - you never know when you might need them!
Most importantly, make sure you bring along plenty of snacks for both yourself and your little one. Your goal should be to create an environment that is as comfortable as possible for your baby during the entire journey.
Pack their favorite toys or books to keep them entertained throughout the trip – this will help ensure that they remain happy and contented. And most importantly – don’t forget those all-important items like a pacifier or bottle if they are needed!
Finally, remember that it's not only important that you have everything you need - it's also important that you leave behind anything unnecessary in order to make sure your trip runs as smoothly as possible.
Ensuring A Smooth Flight
Traveling with a 6-month-old can be a challenge, but with the right planning and preparation, it can also be an enjoyable experience.
When flying with an infant, it is important to secure seats together in advance. This allows parents to have their hands free to care for their little one during the flight. Additionally, many airlines allow infants to fly for free when traveling on an adult’s lap.
Another important factor to consider when flying with a baby is meal planning. Many airlines offer meals for purchase or complimentary snacks and beverages; however, it is recommended that parents bring their own food for their baby in case of delays or if the airline does not offer what they need. It is also important to bring plenty of bottles or sippy cups filled with milk or juice and snacks such as crackers, fruit snacks, or cut up vegetables and fruits.
Here are few tips to make your journey smoother:
Secure your seats together before your flight
Check with the airline about any discounts for babies
Bring enough formula/breast milk/juice for your baby's needs
Pack plenty of healthy snacks for during the flight
Remember that patience and flexibility are key when traveling with a 6-month-old - things may not always go as planned but you can still enjoy your trip!
Staying Safe In New Environments
Traveling solo with a 6-month-old can be daunting, but it doesn't have to be. With the right safety protocols in place, you'll have peace of mind and can focus on enjoying your trip.
First and foremost, it is important to research the destination before you leave. Will there be medical facilities available if needed? Are the roads safe for driving? What about air travel?
Once you feel confident that all safety protocols are in place, you can begin planning the details of your trip. You may want to consider staying in one place for an extended period instead of moving around frequently. This will give your little one time to adjust to their new environment, while also giving you some respite from packing and unpacking multiple times throughout your journey. Additionally, look into childcare options at each location so that you can take full advantage of what each destination has to offer.
No matter how far away or close by you are travelling, it's always important to plan ahead and stay informed about local laws, customs and potential health risks before embarking on any journey with an infant. Taking these steps will not only ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for both parent and baby, but will also give you peace of mind when travelling solo with a 6-month-old.
Making The Most Of Your Vacation With A 6-Month-Old
Traveling with a 6-month old can be a challenge, but it is also an opportunity to create memories that will last a lifetime.
For parents looking to make the most of their vacation, exploring outdoors and monitoring activity must be at the top of the list. Whether visiting a local park or embarking on a faraway journey, your six-month-old will be sure to find plenty of new sights and sounds they haven’t experienced before.
Be sure to bring along some toys and snacks that are light enough to carry around during your travels, as well as any necessary medical supplies. A lightweight baby carrier can also help you keep your little one close and secure while still allowing them the freedom to explore.
Vacations with infants can often prove difficult, but they also provide an opportunity for you and your family to create special moments together. Take advantage of all the unique experiences each destination has to offer and enjoy every moment with your 6-month old!
