2024.05.20 16:17 theananthak Malayalam literature for beginners

So my last post asking why Indians don't read Indian books anymore had me surprised with the number of people genuinely interested to know more about Malayalam literature. A lot of them asked me for recommendations, so I thought I'd make a post. Now this won't be just a simple list of books to read. The reading list at kerala is probably better for a complete list of Malayalam books to read than a random internet post, but I hope with my post you will understand and appreciate Malayalam literature and Kerala better.
Malayalam evolved from Tamil. It branched off from Tamil in those parts of Tamilakam (a collective name given to the ancient Tamil kingdoms) which were most influenced by Sanskrit. The earliest literature that is distinctly Malayalam are from the 1100s, but the true beginning of Modern Malayalam starts from the 15th century with Thunchathu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, master poet and father of Malayalam. Now Ezhuthachan (whose name literally means 'teacher of writing') was a lower caste Ezhava man who dared to study the Vedas and even began to write and teach others to write in an age where literacy was gatekept by Brahmins. His seminal work is the Adhyathma Ramayana, a retelling of the Ramayana from the lens of the Advaita or nondual philosophy. Here is an excerpt from the same work, translated by me. This verse is an opening verse where Ezhuthachan asks Brahmins for permission to retell the Ramayana. Sounds very serious and solemn, yes? Now watch Ezhuthachan mock the hell out of the entire class system of medieval Kerala.
For who can speak of the greatness of that lofty creed, owners of the earth, commanders of the Vedas, whose ceaseless boons and curses, drive even Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva to their wit's end. But pray, may I, born out of the feet of Brahma, number one among the unknowledgeable dare tell Rama's tale for the unconscious ones.
By the 1800s Malayalam literature had modernized very much. It was the first Indian language to start translating the works of Shakespeare, Milton etc. and the 19th century brought with it a fascination for Russian literature in Kerala that still has not ceased. Most big Malayalam bookstores have whole sections devoted to Russian literature translated from the original to Malayalam.
We get our first Malayalam novel in 1889 with O. Chandu Menon's Indulekha. Indulekha is about a young Nair lady of the same name, well educated in English and Sanskrit, in love with Madhavan, a western educated young man torn between modern culture and the culture he grew up in. Later, modernity and the past clash again when old Brahmin men try to marry Indulekha according to the old system. A saddened Madhavan runs away to Bengal in haste, leaving Indulekha to make her decision. The novel shows Indulekha as a modern, unwavering woman, willing to challenge her patriarchs, and shows how the society of Kerala had changed by the 1880s, when the decision of a woman could no longer be overruled. Must read for fans of Victorian fiction like those of Jane Austen, or even PG Wodehouse. (Spoilers - Madhavan realizes his mistake and returns for Indulekha.)
CV Raman Pillai's Marthanda Varma is another behemoth from the 1800s. Based on the life of the 18th century king Marthanda Varma, known as the maker of modern Travancore. Marthanda Varma was born in the royal family of Venad in a Travancore where the ruling family had lost all power to a group of eight Nair families known as the Ettuveettil Pillamar or the Pillas of the Eight Houses. The treasury of the kingdom was almost zero and real power and wealth were in the hands of the Pillas who had even started charging taxes and tarrifs. What follows is a brutal and bloody game between Marthanda Varma, a young prince who just won't give in, and the Eight Houses conspiring to kill him, told from the point of view of a love story involving a chivalric knight and an upper class girl. I've always noticed how Indian books and movies like portraying historical figures like superhuman gods perfect in every way. This book is for those who want to see the real nastiness of history. I recommend Marthanda Varma to fans of books like Shogun or even Game of Thrones.
With the 20th century we have writers like Thakazhi, a towering figure in Indian literature, whose Randidangazhi tells the story of a peasant uprising against landowners during the formative years of modern Kerala. Set in the paddy fields of Kerala, it shows how the poor, after having lived in a state of blissful ignorance starts to slowly come out of their coccoon and realise the horror of their slaving lives. Randidangazhi is a glimpse to how Marxism and Socialism began to get imported to Kerala and how it influenced the culture of Kerala. The less critically acclaimed but more popular novel of Thakazhi, is Chemmeen or Prawn, later made into one of the most succesful Malayalam movies ever. Chemmeen is set in the fishing landscape of Kerala in the shores of the Arabian sea, where fishermen believe that if a woman cheats on her husband while he is at sea, the Sea-Mother would swallow her up. Presented in this socio-cultural context is the story of Parikutty, a muslim fisherman in love with Karuthamma, the daughter of a Hindu fisherman. Their story is a more realistic and tragic version of Romeo and Juliet, with Karuthamma having to marry another man. But her love for Parikutty never dies, and they end up dead in the shores of the ocean.
Vaikom Muhammad Basheer - probably my favourite Malayalam writer. Basheer was a well educated Muslim man who grew up in the rural Muslim dominated areas of Kerala. He wrote in simple colloquial Malayalam and was looked down upon by the literary giants of his day, but today he’s seen as one of the masters of Malayalam fiction. He was once called by an English writer as the Chekhov of India to which a Malayalam writer responded saying that Chekhov was the Basheer of Russia. Basheer wrote about very ordinary people from the most ordinary places. The most famous and finest book of his I have read is called (and this sounds hilarious in Malayalam cause it’s basically a sentence squished into a word in a thick Muslim accent) Ntuppuppaakkoraanendaarnnu! which means My grandpa had an elephant! or more accurately Mygrandpahadanelephent! It’s a coming of age story about a little girl named Kunjupaathumma or little Pathu, who grows up in a family that once used to be rich but is growing poorer by the day. Little pathu gets consoled by her mom on almost a daily basis telling her ‘your grandpa had an elephant!’ clinging on to old pride while doing nothing to solve their present crisis. The English translation is actually called Me Grandad 'ad an Elephant, which kinda captures the original vibe.
MT Vasudevan Nair - the greatest writer to have ever written in Malayalam. Award winning novelist, short story writer, screenwriter and director. His first foray into fiction begins with winning a prize in a short story writing contest held by the New York Herald Tribune in 1953. What proceeded is one of the most impressive literary careers in history. His novels Naalukettu and Asuravithu show the shifting economic landscape of Kerala's Nair households. In Kaalam, the protagonist living in the city begins exploring the nostalgia of his past in feudal Kerala, having to face his crippling loneliness.
MT's most celebrated work and the second (you'll hear of the first very soon) most read Malayalam novel ever is Randamoozham or The Second Turn (translation is weirdly titled Bhima: The Lone Warrior, but English readers swear its very good). Let me begin talking about this novel by simply showing you the opening lines.
The sea was black in colour. Even after having swallowed a palace and an entire city, as if it's hunger hadn't died, the wave beat her head on the shore and screamed in agony.
You just read MT describe the sinking of Dwaraka. Randamoozham is about the Mahabharata, specifically about Bhima, the second of the Pandava brothers, well... dealing with being the second. He reinterprets the events of the Mahabharata with such skill that he makes you empathize with even the cruelest characters. Modern retellings of Indian epics like Asura or Jaya basically rewrite the story and change major events and add plot twists. MT changes nothing, and I mean nothing from the Mahabharata. He simply points out things you never thought about, and explores what might have been the deeper emotional reasons behind the actions of each character. MT being the most empathetic writer I've read has this incredible talent of seeing through people and making characters feel real and tangible. In Randamoozham he explores so many emotions, Bhima's feeling of being inferior to Arjuna, his feeling of emasculation and sexual helplessness, his intense love for Draupadi never repaid as she always prefers Arjuna over him.
Khasakkinte Ithihasam or the Legends of Khasak by OV Vijayan is usually considered the best Malayalam novel ever written. If you google 'greatest Malayalam novel' either this or Randamoozham comes up (google switches them up now and then). The novel is basically magical realism, the same genre of 100 years of solitude of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. But Vijayan's magical realism is a very different beast from that of Marquez. The distinction is subtle. Unlike the novels of Marquez, whether the magical parts of the book are real or not is left ambiguous. Let me explain, the protagonist is Ravi, a stoic man separated from his girlfriend, arriving at a muslim village called Khasak in the middle of nowhere to work as a school teacher. At first its a weird disjointed series of sketches of life in this strange village filled with strange characters who attribute every event and occurence to the workings of magical beings, spirits, or even long dead Muslim warriors. But the novel slowly reveals itself to be the story of a man learning to disconnect from reality and start seeing the magic buried within life. There's a scene where the mc recollects a memory as a child of looking up at the suns and seeing the weird wiggly things that move around in your eyes. His mother explains to him that they are actually Devas or tiny gods in sky, shying away when you look at them. This scene perfectly encapsulates the genre of this novel. I'll also share the fantastic opening para:
When the bus came to its final halt in Koomankavu, the place did not seem unfamiliar to Ravi. He had never been there before, but he had seen himself coming to this forlorn outpost beneath the immense canopy of trees, with its dozen shops and shacks raised on piles; he had seen it all in recurrent premonitions—the benign age of the trees, their riven bark and roots arched above the earth. The other passengers had got off earlier and Ravi sat alone in the bus, contemplating the next part of the journey as one does an ominous transit in one’s horoscope.
Mayyazhipuzhayude Theerangalil or On the banks of the Mayyazhi river by M. Mukundan - This is a novel spanning generations of French Indians in the French colony of Mahe in Kerala. It just wonderfully rolls out history like a scroll and shows you the glacial shifts of history from the reverent attitude of the locals towards the French in the beginning of the novel to complete rebellion by the end. And all of this is interspersed with a love story and magical realism concerning an island where dead people go to and turn into dragonflies. It really opens up a new world unknown to even most Malayalis, where French words are sprinkled in between Malayalam sentences to sound cool the way we use English today and where French aristocrats have to use Malayalam to get their kids to wake up. Some of it sounds jarring and outright weird to Malayali ears.
Mon petite! Mon petite! Ezhunekkoo! Samayam vaiki! Mon petite! Translation - Mon petite! Mon petite! Wake up! It's late already! Mon petite!
Aadujeevitham or Goat Days by Benyamin - as promised, here is the most famous and most sold book in Malayalam. I really really hope at least some of you recognize this from the recent movie Aadujeevitham or Goat Life starring Prithviraj. If not, see the trailer and get an idea of what this book is like. It's fairly recent, from 2008, and is single handedly responsible for rejuvinating Malayalam literature after almost a decade of hibernation. Benyamin became an overnight sensation and a household name with this novel, and It's probably the most read Indian novel in any language. So Aadujeevitham which literally means Goat Life is based on the true story of a man named Najeeb who travelled to Saudi Arabia after he was promised a job by a friend. But at the airport he is basically tricked by an smelly fat Arab into a truck and taken to a goat farm in the middle of the desert. What follows is a tale of survival spanning 4 years of animal-like living herding goats in the middle of nowhere. Najeeb has no access to actual food, and has to dip Khuboos in water pretending it's curry, has no access to toilets and must clean himself after excretion using sand, and has no access to new clothes or shaving. The novel explores the slow devolution of a man into a barely recognizable beastlike figure, living among goats, losing his status as a human and becoming synonymous with a goat. Now how does a human go from that to running across the desert for 4 days to escape? Read the novel and find out. Every Indian must read this honestly, it's quite horrible when it really sinks into you that this shit happened. With the movie recently we got quite a lot of interviews with the original man, and it blew away so many Malayalis that some of the most horrible stuff that happens in the novel wasn't made up, that it actually happened.
The next is the last novel I'll recommend. It's from 2009 but I didn't keep it till the end because of its recency. I kept it at the end because this novel created shockwaves in the Malayalam literary community, became a very controversial book, and ended up as a sensation among the youth. This novel is credited with bringing back or introducing so many young Malayalis (including me, this is the first Malayalam novel I read) into Malayalam literature. But fair warning, this really may not be for you.
Francis Itty Cora by T.D. Ramakrishnan - Possibly the most fascinating novel I have ever read in my life. You will either love this, or hate this. I'll tell you the premise in simple words:
There are 18 secret families, whose members are some of the wealthiest people in the world, spread all over the globe who are tied to ancient rituals and satanic sex cults, protecting secret texts and scriptures, They basically control the world. All of this is interspersed with a clusterfuck of a historical mystery involving the Indian origins of calculus, Cleopatra, Florence, Fibonacci and Hypatia, and how there’s nothing in common with any of these except for the fact that all of these elements are mysteriously connected to a single 15th century pepper trader from Kerala named Francis Itty Cora. Read that again.
Still interested? The novel opens with a young American man named Xavier Itty Cora, a war veteran, who has been having erectile dysfunction ever since he sexually assaulted a girl in Iraq. He seeks help to regain his sexual health from three college girls in Kerala running a makeshift sex resort, who begin suspecting his real intentions for contacting them out of anyone else in the world. It is revealed that Xavier Itty Cora had gotten to know that his family descends from a 15th century Christian pepper trader from Kerala named Francis Itty Cora who travelled around the world and started 18 families. The three college girls set out on a hunt to find the real truth about this man all the while being chased by a secret family that still worships him as his god. Now if that does not excite you, you probably won't like it. But personally, this novel ruined Da Vinci Code for me, as every Dan Brown novel I read after this just felt stupid and dumb compared to the sheer breadth and scope of this novel. T.D. Ramakrishnan uses history to not just give you a kick, but every mystery, every detail he adds is there to support his basic thesis that violence and lust is the driving force behind human civilisation.
I hope this post was helpful in showing you the insane diversity of Malayalam literature there is. It's not a monolith, Indian languages are whole literary traditions of themselves and not just niches or small genres compared. I wrote this hoping to start a chain reaction in this subreddit, and I expect more such posts on every other Indian language from you fellow readers. Happy reading!

Hey friends, fam, fiends, ferrymen of the interstellar dead, fauns, and other assorted Fantasy folken — someone told me starting this off with a string of f-words would get your attention? Did I do it right?

Lancelot Schaubert here with some of the crew from our 23 contributors to OF GODS AND GLOBES III
I will be joined — at least — by Juliet Mariller (u/NoCalligrapher2320) who will be here early and late due to Australian time travel, Gordon Linzner, Andrew Najberg (AndrewNajberg), Gabriel Kellman (u/Whalemittens) Benjamin Chandler (u/bitteralabazam) — you can ask us anything, please let us know after whom you’re asking. They might ask me questions as well.

Of Gods and Globes III

...is a standalone anthology of stories based on interstellar mythopoetic names.
Each name refers both to an astronomical phenomenon (for scifi) and a mythological phenomenon (for fantasy). I.E. — Saturn is a god and a planet, a scifi writer would write about the planet’s influence on, for instance, the influenza virus and a fantasy writer would focus on the demiurge’s. Brihaspati Graha is a Hindu demiurge and also another name for the planet Jupiter. They could pick “the great turtle” or “Charon” or “Mazzaroth,” as long as the name is a bridge between myth and the stars and they write spec fic. Considering the recent eclipses, I’m still kind of shocked no one wrote about Rahukalam, the sun eater. Perhaps we can talk a little bit about Empire of Silence? Or the role of the ever moving moon in Name of the Wind?
I love this set of OGAG stories — they made me laugh, cry, squirm, rage at injustice. Stories from the previous two OGAG volumes won the Ditmar and Aurelius awards.
Here are the story titles with tidbits about each author (some may join me), including some interviews that may provoke more questions. I’ll let them announce themselves in the comments:
  1. Twins by Juliet Marillier Juliet’s a wonderful historical fantasy writer born in Aotearoa New Zealand, living in Australia. Her historical fantasy novels and short stories are published internationally and have won numerous awards. She is the author of twenty-four novels and two collections of short fiction.and has some awesome dogs.
  2. Death In Venus by Chris Edwards He has written plot for multiple LARP systems (most notably Profound Decisions and Shadow Factories). He also co-writes an audio-drama podcast (Tales from the Aletheian Society) which has run to three seasons.
  3. Searching for the Door into Death by Michaele Jordan Has worked at a kennel, a Hebrew School and AT&T.
  4. The Mistress of the Labyrinth by Donna J. W. Munro She teaches high schoolers the slippery truths of government and history at her day job.
  5. We Have No Spare Parts by Andrew Najberg Author of the speculative horror novel Gollitok and various stories, teaches college in Tennessee. Interview here.
  6. War on Brihaspati Graha by Shashi Kadapa Based in Dharwad and Pune, Bharat Shashi is the managing editor of ActiveMuse. He was the International Fellow 2021 for IHRAF, NY. Won the IHRAF short story prize twice.
  7. A Cup of Justice by Teel James Glenn TJ has killed hundreds and been killed more times — on stage and screen, as he has traveled the world for forty-plus years as a stuntman, swordmaster, storyteller, bodyguard, actor, and haunted house barker. He was on the original cast of STREET FIGHTER: THE LATER YEARS — interview with him here.
  8. Alfa Romeo by Victory Witherkeigh Filipino/PI author originally from Los Angeles, CA, currently living in the Las Vegas area with a long list of credits.
  9. Unchained by Helen Venn Clarion 2007 grad and Writer in Residence at Tom Collins house.
  10. Mazzaroth Falls by F.C. Shultz He’s the poetry editor for The Joplin Toad and lives in the Midwest with his wife and two kids. He's trying to cultivate a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures, which means writing a lot of poems about birds (and novels about dragons). Also I didn’t realize that he grew up in Illinois like I did, so his interview was just us rambling on about Bradbury, nostalgia, and the quest to rescue his childhood blue Power Ranger.
  11. Ignition by Dan Henriksen Dan’s a coder, physicist, current spotter of a stylish beard, cyclist, and New Yorker. Cyclist New Yorker is a danger I’m not yet acquainted with, personally, but I often eat breakfast with him.
  12. Across Saturn Rose by Dr. Anthony G. Cirilla Associate Professor of English at College of the Ozarks, a lecturer at the Davenant Institue, the Associate Editor of the International Boethius Society, and serves as a deacon in the United Episcopal Church. Interview here.
  13. All Bright Things by Evangeline Giaconia Gainesville, Florida, librarian. Often found knitting and reading interesting books turned in by patrons.
  14. Charon by Chuck Boeheim Chris has a science and tech career and fills notebooks with celestial mechanic calculations. Chris writes LARP modules.
  15. The Perseid by Benjamin Chandler Expat living in Slovakia. A rather ribald interview about Wisconsin slurs for Illinois folk with him can be found here.
  16. The Legend of Johnny Comet by Benjamin Brinks Benjamin often writes under various names.
  17. Winding Ways by Emily Munro In addition to her many talents as an editor, administrator, art historian, curator, and co-wrangler of our Starlings writers group at Center for Fiction, Emily was patient 0 at the Air BnB we shared with three others at the Washington DC Worldcon. Lucky for us, we were indoors watching her live tweet the winners on the official account, so we knew all the winners about ten minutes early. She also knits her own socks. Ask one of us about the time I asked her if she had received the submission status on her first anthology.
  18. Retrograde by Artemis Crow Artemis was the only one who wore pajamas at the UnCon bedtime stories I led in Salem, Massachusetts. She had an amazing dragon hoodie. My turkey onesie never showed up.
  19. Her Secret Face by Carol Ryles Another wonder from down under, Carol actually interviewed Juliet at the recent Swancon in Perth. She also was the first to buy one of the wonderful posters and seems to love it.
  20. Jumping at ‘The Labyrinth’ by Gordon Linzner Gordon’s the founder and former editor of Space and Time Magazine, and author of scores of short stories in F&SF, Twilight Zone, Sherlock Holmes Mystery Magazine, and numerous other magazines and anthologies. The recently minted Linzner Award is named after him — interview here.
  21. The Visions of a Single Eye by Gabriel Kellman He works on TTRPG board and card games in his free time. He’s a longtime martial artist and lifelong cat lover. Interview here.
  22. Mars and Venus by Zoe Kaplan Zoe has no less than four swords. She works at Simon and Schuster — interview with her here.
  23. THE DELPHIC ORACLE Metaphysical Insurance Claim 0075A by Lancelot Schaubert & Alexander Sirkman — Alex is one of the funniest people I know in person. He’s the son of a rabbi, a paralegal, a lifelong New Yorker, a culinary genius, and many, many other things. I would be lost at sea in NYC without his friendship and Emily’s, particularly their joy and kindness. Interview with Alex here.
As for me?
I mean I’ll hang out and answer the most random questions imaginable (college pranks, marriage proposals, cooking 3,000 eggs Benedict to order, my fantasy universe and how it trolled literary magazines that didn't like with speculative fiction, documentary films, filk music, pets, brewing, scavenging, surviving natural disasters like the Joplin Tornado, slow mo VHS explosions, lumber runs in NYC, CS Lewis’s offices at Cambridge, etc) until no one asks any more.
I reserve the right to answer with a story, a question, or a silly link: I'm going to try and keep this fun.
EDIT 11:22AM EST: I, Lance, am still around and will keep answering as long as stuff comes in. Juliet is likely asleep, will rejoin in her morning, our evening, so if you're fans of her work as I am, it'd be good to queue up some specific questions for her for this evening. Andrew and Gabriel will be here. Gordon will likely join later as may some others.
EDIT @ 3:37 PM EST: Looks like Benjamin Chandler might join us for a bit from Slovakia.
EDIT @ 8:21 PM EST: I'm personally headed to bed (I wake at 5am), but Juliet might hop on and answer some more and Najberg and Gabriel might duck back on, unsure. I'll check in the morning, but generally like I said, I'll answer stuff as it comes in and check periodically to make sure I got it all.

2024.04.29 18:31 arya21god HORROR Genre IS THE Indonesia POP CULTURE?

2024.04.23 19:22 nashamagirl99 Why *that* part of the ending had to happen *that* way

Massive spoiler warning obviously, don’t read if you haven’t watched the whole thing!
We were all heartbroken by Alberto’s death. He was charming, handsome, and the show and actor did a great job of drawing us in (I was into him the second he showed up on screen!), then making us hate him, then having us fall in love with him. Unfortunately not every character can have a happy ending, and while we all would’ve liked Alberto and Dan to live happily ever after here is why it had to happen the way it did:
Ultimately tragedy is part of storytelling and romance and a tool many of the best romantic stories, from Romeo and Juliet to Titanic, have made use of. While we are sad for Alberto and Dan ultimately the end is part of what makes their story so memorable. That goes to show that the writer made the right decision as much as we may have wished for a happier ending.

2024.04.10 20:48 admkukuh A little rant for weak ass like me

Halo komodos, gw dari dulu pernah kepikiran kek buat cerita dikit gt disini, gw 20 (M), tapi takut kalo cerita gada hasil apa apa. Gw sangat memandang diri gw rendah dibanding semua org bahkan adek sendiri. Gw ada masalah personal dengan diri gw dan gw ngerasa gw hipokrit karena gw bisa treat others fine or even better but not myself. I see myself as a tool, just give me a bit of maintenance (a bit of attention or being included), and i'll do everything to you.
A little background, gw dibesarin dengan didik kasar sama bokap and it works, tapi entah kenapa belakangan ini gw merasa kalau yg diucapkan oleh ortu gw itu kadang ada yg personal ada yg emotional dump, dan kadang gw merasa sakit hati kalo di ucapin yang memang tidak seharusnya diucapin gt. Bokap gw sih yang biasanya gitu, cuma gw gapapa lah ga mempermasalahkannya, mungkin beliau lagi capek or somewhat lagi ada masalah. Gw ama bokap ga terlalu deket as a result (gw takut sampe skrg ama beliau, tapi masih bisa kalo sekedar komunikasi but not heart to heart, just man to man). Gw dipaksa terus buat ngomong ama bokap kek ngomong apa aja, yang dimana gw gabisa karena gw emg ada luka batin dari kecil buat selalu nerima rant nya dia unconditionally or even get a bit of physical abuse, which im fine cause what could i do. Selalu aja bokap itu ngomongin tentang hubungan emosional but at the same time beliau ngomong kalo anak itu yang ngerti orang tua, bukan sebaliknya. Bokap gw emang egonya besar kalo udah ranah personal, jadi anggep aja ngerawat gw itu out of responsibility, but there is almost no love carried, which is different compared to my sister.
Namun semenjak dirinya magang, di minggu terakhir dia magang gw curhat lah ke doi soal masalah dirumah, ga semuanya sih tapi intinya gt, dan dia minta maaf karena gada buat gw kan, gw gapapa karena emang fokusin magang aja biar hasilnya bagus, dan beberapa hari setelahnya gw curhat lagi, but idk i think this time she's mad or something like that to me, she never replied to my text ever from last month. And no, i dont bother her like in the way i need her to help me, i just told her that my day went this and that and yeah, something you could either reply or not and no effect would grow on it. Gw merasa kek gw salah apa yak yang bikin dia pengen cut off gw, soalnya terkahir kali dia silent treatment ke gw, gw merasa salah, taunya dia yg maaf karena bukan gw yg salah gt, yah you guys got the glimpse lah. Gw merasa kek ini downfall of our friendship, and i feel like i ruined everything again for the idk howmany times. To be honest gw ngerasa kalo gw tersakiti sama ekspektasi gw, bukan karena dianya. Yaaa sejak kemaren februari pertengahan dia gapernah ngabarin, sok cerita, ato apalah, well idk if it's because of me or something, but i do hope that she would return one day, with a whole new story.
Gw bener bener ngerasa sendiri, walau gw udah doa tiap abis sholat, well intinya gw kesepian dan gw rasanya itu pengeeen banget cerita dan disambung dengan ceritanya lawan bicara, yaa saling cerewet dengan interest masing masing gt lah like how i used to do with my buddy, but now am all alone like idk man, it just feels alone.
Gitu doang sih ges a little rant of me and my life, if you guys have any suggestion for me or any advice, im all ears. Maaf ya kalo cerita gw ga jelas ato gimana, you could ask for details :D

2024.04.10 00:56 lunalovegoodsraddish What Film Genres do you think other characters dream in?

This is one of my favourite recurring motifs in the show and I wish we could’ve seen more of them. They’re just clever witty ways to show the disjunction between the way the characters would like to see themselves and how what’s going on in their real life desecrated that ideal.
So we know Blair is old Hollywood (usually and ironically in Audrey’s role), Chuck (whose dream I couldn’t find a picture of from the web, sorry!) dreams in film noir which is fitting - Serena imagines herself as Marilyn (at least in that one scene where she’s so jealous of Dan’s love for Blair… which I get).
So how about the others?
I can imagine Jenny dreaming of herself as in twilight or YA films lol. Dan in Baz Lurhman literary adaptions (Nick in the Great Gatsby, Romeo pining after Juliet etc etc) caused he’s a navel gazing Romantic. I think I’m struggling to think of aesthetically similar old films. So what do you think?

2024.04.05 20:52 tersxin Hip hop

2024.03.30 08:55 Tukang-Gosip I find it funny

Langsung aja yes - gue sekarang liat kebanyakan orang orang kita itu lucu (abis ngedenger ama ngeliat kisah teman dan beberapa kenalan gue)
Lucu nya nape?
Sama kayak diatas.....ngapain ngomong soal self care, empati, mental health kalo hal kayak gaslit, 'invalidate feelings' ama lomba adu nasib dianggap wajar dan perlu?
Gue penasaran, buat apa sebenarnya teriak teriak soal mental health kalo ujungnya toxic behaviour masih dipake dan dianggap penting dan wajib?

2024.03.08 11:03 CoomerDoomer92 [CopyPastaFB] ADIL ???

[CopyPastaFB] ADIL ???
ADIL ??? Saya rasa ramai pernah nampak kedai dan promosi ni. 1. Nama kedai ni Baker’s Cottage
  1. Dia buat promosi yang amat menarik.
  2. Seekor ayam panggang pada harga 16.90 sahaja
  3. Banyak tahun dah dia buat
  4. Strategi dia sangat power
  5. Dulu Baker’s Cottage ni mcm dah sendu sket...….
  6. Tapi diaorang buat strategy loss leader ni, Ramai orang datang membeli
  7. Dan dia berjaya buka banyak outlet satu Malaysia
  8. Tapi kenapa saya letak tajuk ADIL ??
  9. Macam ni citer nya
  10. Baker’s Cottage ni kedai lama.. brand dah lama
  11. Jual roti.. kedai bakery la
  12. Ok la roti dia sedap
  13. Tapi business dia tak strong sangat
  15. Dan di beli oleh syarikat Leong Hup
  16. Siapa syarikat Leong Hup ni
  17. Dia jual ayam...
  18. Walau anda seorang Muslim yang claim anda tak beli ayam dari kedai bukan muslim… kemungkinan besar anda silap
  19. Leong Hup ni adalah salah satu syarikat integrator kat Malaysia ni
  24. Jumlah transaki ayam diaorang capai level puluhan juta sebulan
  25. Senang cerita 70% ayam kat Malaysia datang dari diaorang
  26. Walau awak beli dari kedai melayu kat pasar, kemungkinan BESAR ayam tu datang dari giant ni ni...Kadang boleh kata hampir pasti
  27. Yes mereka la giant.. Leong Hup salah satu giant terbesar di Malaysia
  28. Sebab apa giant, sebab mereka la yang hari hari decide berapa harga ayam nak jual kat pasaran
  29. Kita dok tibai menteri kalau ayam naik harga… sebenarnya kartel ni lagi besar dari kementerian
  30. Susah nak faham harga ayam
  31. Tapi takper la… itu satu hal… selagi dia sembelih , ada sijil halal… saya rasa ok la nak buat mcm mana....
  32. Mmg tak ramai supplier lain… Tapi kita usahakan la support brand mcm Ayam Bismi dalam perjuangan mereka..
  35. Ni citer Bakers Cottage ni
  36. Leong Hup beli Bakers Cottage...So BC dgn pengalaman banyak, dan duit boss baru yang banyak...Dia dah jadi level big brand...
  37. Lepas tu LEONG HUP supply ayam kat BC ,
  38. Pastu BC beli oven combi...panggang ayam... jual sekor ayam panggang harga 16.90
  39. Order banner besar letak depan kedai...Ayam Panggang 16.90
  40. Hahaha... terdiam gak tengok harga dia
  41. Untung la pelanggan....hari hari masuk...beli ayam sauk gak roti dan lain lain...Bijak betul strategi ni
  42. Tapi peniaga lain gigit jari
  43. RM 16 tu kalau peniaga lain ...harga kos belum masak, tak masuk kos pekerja , sewa dan lain lain
  44. Pengsan beb
  45. Dah celah mana nak bersaing... tapi ni bukan masalah peniaga ayam jer...
  46. Banyak bisnes kecil... tak kisah la jual ayam ke..ikan ke, tapir ker hatta jual pensil tekan sekali pun...selalu hadap dilemma ni...
  48. Maka terpaksa jual pada harga tinggi
  49. Bila dia jual tinggi ,nak kena lawan dgn company giant mcm Leong Hup ni...Yang ada modal banyak dan kos rendah..Also R&D yang power... Maka company start up tak leh lawan guna kekuatan produk semata mata
  50. Sebab tu banyak brand start up main sentimen lain... contoh ..perkauman, agama, simpati, gimik, influencer, gimik, dan lain lain.
Tapi apa daya saing yang ada time tu...Lepas tu cakap peniaga ni penunggan agama
  52. Contoh mudah cuba tengok Syukor Burger la...... Dia buat burger level street...Sama taraf dgn McD... pada harga marhaen... (So jangan compare kan dia dgn brand Woodfire lak)
  53. So kalau Syukor Burger letak sebelah sebelah dgn McD... of course la automatik orang akan cakap burger syukor tak sedap, service tak power, brand tak standard, staff tak friendly...
  54. Mekdi tu dah berpuluh tahun niaga kot...Syukor baru setahun buka kedai burger... Mmg tak leh lawan
  55. Sebab tu dia kena guna strength personal branding dia dulu... tarik pelanggan...
  56. Nak perbaiki ni take time... takkan boleh nyer tetiba terrer.... heheheheh
  58. Saya takder apa apa against Leong Hup dan Baker's Cottage... Saya ada je beli ayam dia...sedap gak for the price...
  60. Dan berdamai yang brand baru nak naik ni tak boleh sempurna di peringkat awal... at least 10 tahun pertama mereka akan keep on buat mistake.
  61. Faham yang brand start up kadang kena jual mahal... Kalau tak nak beli takper tapi jangan jatuhkan mereka dgn kecaman berjemaah
  62. Saya tak pertikai ADIL ke Baker's Cottage jual harga ayam murah...dia power buat strategi...dia ada kelebihan..adil la guna.. No prob..Respect!!!
  63. Tapi saya nak tekan kan.. Adil ke Bulan ramadhan nanti , kalau korang nampak orang meniaga ayam golek kat Pasar Ramadhan... jual harga RM 22 sekor... pastu cakap "ni la peniaga nak gi haji balik hari, menipu harga jer...Baker's Cottage boleh je jual murah..."
  64. Jeng woiii !!!
  65. Saya menulis pasal dunia F&B dan perkongsian pengalaman dan pandangan saya.. Banyak lagi content cenggini kat FB Saya.
