I have an Android phone (Samsung A54, stock) and installed AirGuard. I additionally placed an Airtag in my car, in the trunk.
I had this for a few weeks now, but I have not received a notification from AirGuard that I am being stalked by my own AirTag. I drove to work for about 45 minutes one way to work each work day, so there should have been plenty of chances to pick that thing up.
My setup is: 1 Android phone with custom ROM and SIM cards (no AirGuard), one Android phone (Samsung A54 stock company phone) with no SIM card but AirGuard installed, this phone only connects to web via WiFi, I prefer it this way.

Combo breaker- the user can activate a video game esk ability by saying "power up" within the 15 minutes time limit the user gains a garunteed black flash, given they can hit the enemy 15 times before they can hit him, this ability can backfire because his enemy gains the same effect, this can either be a make or break situation depending on how you look at it (these black flashed are also about 2X power instead of 2.5X to make it more even.

Actively full time employed as I find it brings me fulfilment, allows for social interaction and intellectual stimulation, benefits such as insurance, free AC / coffee / wifi / weekly catered lunches - I plan to continue working for as long as I can. Management has more than once approached the subject if I’d like to be promoted but the truth is that taking on an increased workload and responsibilities with maybe an additional 20% pay isn’t worth the downsides of having less time for myself, the late nights, and weekends I’d be expected to give up.
Thinking back on my starting point, basically I was aware that my family was poor (classic case of blowing every pay check on useless shit, never saving money - not only that, the ‘useless shit’ often cost more money to upkeep so it was just a never ending downward spiral) and I’d never get out of the hole unless I applied some approaches as following :

LMAO...I know, I know...corny but its true nau. Even the sex in the city is a stressor...getting the right outfit, picking the right restaurant, food, drinks, Uber ride...sheesh! Back when Carrie featured it, life was so much simpler. All she had to do was hail a cab or skip down 5th avenue or where was that her apt that time. Shiii and she thought she had issues.
I remember when I lived in Lagos a few years ago, whenever I needed to clear my head and just be in sanity, I would go to Akure; to my parent’s house. And for that 4 days or so, I would destress without even trying. lol...between my dad waking me up for breakfast that he took so much pride to prepare and my mum’s goat meat soup for lunch...yummmmmm...it was always bliss...well until Arsenal loses a match and then my dad would pout for the rest of the night and that will be the end of that...let me just use this to add that adulting is scam because after day 4 or 5 or whatever the day is, I MUST go back to work to make a living.
So...lets talk about it. The city is STRESS! How do you manage? Do you have an “akure” that you go to de-stress?
The fast and chaotic pace of the city life have been proven to cause major stress and anxiety.
What are the stressors of the city life?
Here is my list and you can add yours to the comment section:
Transit to work. Gosh all that energy on the train; different people with different ishes...yikes. Let’s not talk about the terrible morning drivers.
Bills...bills...bills. Something is ALWAYS due...ah ahn!
Bad food. Yes...this is a stressor. Eating healthy is costly. To be honest, even junk food has gotten expensive.
Fear of the unknown with law enforcements. I don’t even know which is worse; here or naija. Sigh...naija’s own is to drop money, depending on the car you are driving or who you are with. Here, you just pray its not a trigger-happy racist police officer. God be with all of us.
As an entrepreneur, when is my next big ticket item?
O lets not forget how EVERY SINGLE THING is EXXXXXXXPENSIVEEEEEEE!!!! I mean a movie ticket is about 17$. Like wtf...so how much is pop-corn and soda?
Social Media/The internet. This is another blog post entirely. Whether you on it for work or play, SM is a huge influence on our lives. That’s something I enjoyed in Akure as well - bad internet connection so I was forced to sit in my room and enjoy my own company or hang out with my parents. Not that I needed an excuse to enjoy their company. We gisted all the time anyways. But if you don’t have good control, the internet can be ruin you.
Ummm...what else? Those are the major stressors I can think of. Thank God.

Listen to 80s, 90s or early 2000 music. That’s the only real music era I can recommend. Ain’t no stress Bon Jovi or New Edition can’t kill. And of course, Afro beats! Dance your hearh out. It’s therapy on its own.
Gist with your laughing buddy. Everybody should have one. That person that laughs as deep as you do. That same person you can talk about “it” with.
Talk about whatever it is. Sometimes, it feels like you are the first person “it” is happening to but na lie. It’s happened to somebody before and they got over it. And so-what you are the first person “it” is happening to, talk about it to your confidant and you all can device a solution.
Try not to sweat the small stuff. Everybody is going through something.
Get it in, as often as you can. You see as I bold that?! God gave us that gift. Appreciate it and use it wisely. LMAO
Take quiet no-gadget walks in your neighborhood. Other than your NauNauSOS App on your phone, just enjoy a nice evening walk. Pay attention to your surroundings though.
Eat your favorite meal and binge watch your favorite show.
SLEEEEEEEEP!!!! RESSSST!!!! Sometimes we are over stimulated and we don’t know it.
Exercise. People think you have to join the gym and workout for hours. No...you can brisk walk or jump rope or swim or ride your bicycle or jog on the spot. Just do anything that will make you sweat (ref to #6 above wink)

My son and a friend signed a lease for an apartment that doesn't start until July 2024. Is it possible for them to get out of the lease before they occupy without penalty? If not, any idea what the penalty would be? It doesn't really say anything on the lease about penalties. I'm guessing it could be the security deposit, or it could be the entire lease.
The reason why they want to cancel is that there is no storage and the place is prone to flooding. They didn't realize how bad this situation was until they emailed the property owner.
Here is the response from the property owner that caused them to want to get out of the lease. It's a pretty small place 900sq feet.
"I’m sorry for my slow response to your email. Unfortunately our garage is full, partly due to the fact that it holds 7 bikes, part of my ceramics studio, a motorcycle, our camping and outdoor gear, 2 cars and spare VW Eurovan parts, not to mention stuff accumulated over the last 50-60 years. (Consider yourself warned and also: minimalism! ;-) )
You are welcome to move or add furniture, or decide not to use some of the furniture and/or decor in the apartment, in whatever way suits you. (We’ll have a few days before you move in to remove anything you don’t want. If you’d like to schedule a time to come by to make some of those decisions we’d be happy to do that.) Mainly we would want to know about painting or other somewhat permanent changes. One suggestion may be to move/remove that small desk in the corner “nook" of the living room and instead add shelving and bike hooks for your skis, bikes and gear. Also, there is an entry closet that could be used for storage, as well as part of the pantry area. We’re happy to remove the additional stools, baby gear and anything else you don’t want in there. The larger bedroom has two full size closets, one of which could possibly be used for extra gear, especially if shelving was added, and if Steven would agree to that, of course.
As far as flooding, in past experience the French drain fails when there are very heavy slow-moving rainstorms, which can occur mostly during the spring/summer months. We have a "shop-vac & bailing" response when that happens and are happy to assist with that if we’re available at the time. A couple of rolled towels in the entrance threshold is typically enough to absorb incoming rainwater. If we can store a shop vac in the apartment it makes things more convenient. Any flooding that happens from those events typically remains within the first few feet of the front door, dampening the entry rug and possibly part of the living room rug. Please let us know if you detect water anywhere in the apartment it shouldn’t be and we’ll respond as quickly as possible to fix the problem. That said, if it’s possible to store sensitive items off the floor a couple of inches (think 2x4 boards), all the better.Thanks for your questions and please feel free to let me know if this doesn’t answer your questions fully. I’ll try to respond more quickly in the future."

40-60. You are earning your most. You've had 2 decades on the job, you are experienced, you are promoted. But your not consuming quite as much. The house is paid off, the kids on average are leaving the house. Your also starting to think towards retirement.
60+. Retirement. You are consuming next to nothing. Some people have lavish retirements, but most peoples worlds get smaller, they have their community, their local bowls club or RSA, and they generally dont have much income. A pension, some savings, but nothing like the previous eras.
So lifetime order of consumption goes: 20-40, 40-60 / 0-20 (depending on your source), then 60+
Your income / productivity is: 40-60, 20-40, 60+, 0-20. (where the workforce entrance is lower the 0-20 group can also be above the 60+ group...)
The last basic thing to note is: Kids of the farm are free labour, kids in the city are an expense. Industrialisation, and thus the movement to cities, +education level, +economic opportunity = less children. We will circle back to this in chapter 3.

Now you understand the basics about earning and consumption, you can understand the economics of the last 50odd years.
The boomers were right they grew up with higher interest rates. They had an inflationary population pyramid (the baby boom). They had less kids, and this grew into the economically powerful chimney 'pyramid' we've had for the last 20-30 years.
In the US there were 78million baby boomers born. They had 53 million Gen X'ers. Who then had 76 million Mellenials. That Gen X credit crunch is what we are entering. There are not enough of them, and they are not wealthy enough, to surplant what the boomers have blessed us with the last 2 decades.
in 2004 the youngest boomer entered into the 40-60 highest earning bracket. Since they have plenty of capital, and its sitting in the bank / pension funds, its been used via fractional reserve to give access to cheap and easy credit. The stock market has BOOMED. OF COURSE IT HAS. Every man and its dog every tuesday is buying 20% apple stock with its 401k and kiwisaver and aussie super. OF COURSE the market has been pumping its had a steady influx of money to make it pump. It has no other choice but to pump when billions of dollars are flowing into it all around the world from this boomer group, earning its most, and saving its most...
And thats what you think is normal. A Boomer driven booming stockmarket, cheap and easy credit and 3% interest rates.

Line must go up? The changing economy 2030-2050.

Well, endless growth cant be endless. All things have a limit. And the boomers are taking the pensions, cashing out of the stock market, and leaving it sitting in their personal accounts. Which means well see outflows from the stock market, and much tighter lending conditions because as boomers pensions dwindle, the fractional reserve requirements increase...
in 2029 the Youngest boomer will be 65.
The US has a workforce shortage, of 250,000 peaking at 1million in 2030 where 1million more will retire vs enter the workforce. This will cause wage inflation, which the US will happily export to anyone using its currency.
The US is withdrawing from globalisation and turning inward, which means trade is going to become more expensive. And as an import dependent nation that we are, ouch.
The US is determined to have all of its supply chains rebuilt in North and South America. This will drive inflation throughout the rebuild process.
The entire world is looking into Green transition. This whole transition will be inflationary as precious resources have increasing demand.
The world is looking at (conservatively) loosing 5% of its GDP to climate change and related events. These rebuilds and crop wipeouts will be inflationary.
Lastly, Latest estimations put our peak population at 2045 (down from 2080), with Africa's fertility rates dropping faster than earlier predictions, but inline with previous industrialisation speed ups . IE Europe industrialised over 300 years, the US over 100, Asia over 50, South America in about 30 and Africa will be faster. And birth rates in each region dropped more rapidly than the last.

Why rates are going to spend the next decade much higher.

Aside from AI and Robots launching off and we recreating our economy... well that's possible. But assuming we continue much the same as we have the last 50 years he is what we face:
Most of the world does not have enough young people. This is the nature of a population decrease. They will have an inverted population pyramid and we dont really have much an economic model on how that will function so... overall not good for those places. Wage inflation will be high, imports will be required to meet needs, and in a deglobalising time that means more expensive goods.
Some, developed places (primarily with higher immigration) still have enough young people and are shifting back to a slightly more normal pyramid population, but that is also inflationary (along with all the inflationary factors of the last chapter).
And lastly, as previously mentioned, The Gen X and Millennials simply do not have the wealth to replace what is being taken out.
Boomers still have all the money. Which will soon become hard for everyone else to access
So in conclusion
  • All these economic and demographic factors will see inflation stick around.
  • And with high inflation, comes high interest rates.
  • We do not live in the economic or demographic era that gave us 3% interest rates, and wont be again for a decade or two.
  • GDP figures are not in the reserve bank target.
  • A poor economy does not mean cheap rates.
  • A bad economy with high rates and low inflation is MUCH BETTER than a bad economy with low rates and high inflation ie STAGFLATION.
  • TO NAIL THIS HOME: Rates are driven by inflation, not GDP.
  • Rates are going to be about 5% for the next 10 years. and If I am actually correct, itll be more like the 70-80's where rates are closer to 10% on average.

STUDY QUESTION, PURPOSE, OR HYPOTHESIS
To assess the tolerability and efficacy of CD19 CAR T cells in a small series of seriously ill and treatment-resistant patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
BACKGROUND – Why
  • SLE is characterized by breakdown in immune tolerance against nuclear antigens including double-stranded (ds) DNA and nuclear proteins; activation of adaptive immune system; emergence autoantibodies against dsDNA, and other nuclear antigens, which subsequently trigger immune complex-induced inflammation and damage across an array of different organs, such as the kidneys, the heart, the lungs and the skin.
  • Patients are generally on life-long supportive treatments and currently there is no durable strategy for achieving drug-free remission or cure.
  • Since B cells are central to SLE pathogenesis (e.g., autoantibodies), B cell-targeted treatments include monoclonal antibody (mab) belimumab (Benlysta) that interfere with B cell activation targeting BAFF/BLyS and rituximab, anti-CD20 mab that depletes B cells.
  • The purpose of targeting B cells is to deplete autoreactive B cell pool and induce immune reset. However, anti-CD20 rituximab only depletes peripheral compartment and spares B cell pool in deeper tissues including lymphatic organs and inflamed tissues (ref.11,12). In addition, CD20 is not expressed by plasmablasts and long-lived plasma cells, which are involved in autoantibody formation.
  • Conceptually, a deep depletion of CD19+ B cells and plasmablasts in the tissues could trigger an immune reset in SLE and lead to a potential cure. CD19 CAR Ts are effective in several lymphomas and leukemias (e.g., Kymriah) and in preclinical lupus models.
METHODS – Where and How
Patient Population
  • Seven patients with SLE (diagnosed per EULAACR criteria) with treatment-refractory disease (failure to respond to multiple immunomodulatory therapies including repeated pulsed glucocorticoids, hydroxychloroquine, belimumab, and MMF), and with signs of active organ involvement were recruited in the study. Two patients were excluded, one was subsequently diagnosed with psoriasis and other refused to sign informed consent. Five patients were treated with CD19 CAR T.
Investigational Product
  • The investigational product MB-CART19.1 consisted of patient-derived CD4+/CD8+-enriched T cells (i.e., autologous) transduced with anti-CD19 CAR using self-inactivating (SIN) lentiviral vector.
  • The CAR construct consists of a single-chain variable fragment (svFc), derived from the murine anti-human CD19 antibody FMC63, that binds to exon 4 of human CD19; a CD8-derived hinge region; a TNFRSF19-derived transmembrane domain; a CD3z intracellular domain; and a 4-1BB co-stimulatory domain.
  • Final product was >99% T cells with a preponderance of CD4+ T cells with strong enrichment of CD27- CD45RA- effector memory T cells and low in expression of the T cell exhaustion markers CD57 and programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1).
Treatment
  • Patients received lymphodepleting chemotherapy (fludarabine and cyclophosphamide) on days -5, -4, and -3 before CAR T infusion. CAR T cells were given as a short infusion (at day 0) after prophylactic application of antihistamines and acetaminophen.
  • The CAR T dose was 1 million CAR T cells per kg body weight. Total cells infused for 5 subjects were 44, 68, 70,76, and 91 million.
Primary and Secondary Endpoints: SLE response endpoints and safety
RESULTS
  • Patient Characteristics: The study included 4 women and 1 man; aged between 18 and 24 years; had active disease with baseline SLEDAI-2K scores between 8 and 16; multiorgan involvement; and median (range) disease duration of 4 (8) years.
  • Exposure and Pharmacokinetics: Levels of infused CAR T cells in blood peaked at Day 9 with 11% to 59% of all circulating T cells and declined thereafter. The phenotype of CAR T in vivo shifted to central memory T cells, which indicates their circulation to lymphoid organs and other tissue sites.
  • Peripheral Blood Cells: B cells disappeared from the peripheral blood within a few days of CAR T infusion, whereas other cell lineages (CD4+/ CD8+ T cells, monocytes and neutrophils) showed only temporary decreases. Suggests: CAR T targeted depletion of B cells; minimal effect of lymphodepletion conditioning on overall blood cell lineages.
  • Clinical Efficacy: At 3-month assessment, the signs and symptoms of SLE improved in all patients: SLEDAI-2K score at 3 months decreased to zero (4/5 patients) or 2 (in patient 2); nephritis ceased (5/5), complement factor levels normalized (5/5), and anti-dsDNA levels dropped below cutoff (5/5). Other severe manifestations of SLE such as arthritis (patient 4), fatigue (5/5), fibrosis of cardiac valves (patient 1) and lung involvement (patients 1 and 3) also disappeared.
  • Remission: DORIS remission criteria and the LLDAS definition were fulfilled by all 5 patients 3 months after treatment. All SLE maintenance immunosuppressive drugs could be discontinued including glucocorticoids and hydroxychloroquine (5/5).
  • Immune Reset: The levels of antibodies against nucleosomes, secondary necrotic cells (SNECs), single-stranded (ss) DNA, Smith (Sm) antigen, and Ro60 decreased, while no antibodies against histones, Ro52 and SS-B/La were detected in any of the patients. Complement levels increased and normalized.
  • Long-term Effects: B cells reconstituted after an average time of 110 ± 32 days (median 110 days; range 63 - 142 days) in all 5 patients. However, the disease remained in remission (no relapse) with no need to restart SLE-associated medication in any patient.
  • Safety: Patients were monitored for cytokine-release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) during the first 10 days in-patient in-hospital. Mild CRS occurred (fever: CRS grade 1) in 3/5 patients; no ICANS occurred; and no infection occurred during the phase of B cell aplasia.

DICUSSION AND LIMITATIONS
  • Autologous CAR T cell treatment was well tolerated with only mild CRS in patients with severe refractory SLE. Signs and symptoms of severe SLE improved and diseases went into remission. Laboratory parameters normalized including seroconversion of anti-double-stranded DNA antibodies.
  • Limitations: All patients in this study were young, <25 years old, whereas peak age of diagnosis is between age of 40 and 50 years.
IMPLICATIONS
  • Deep-tissue autoreactive B cell-depletion is possible with CAR T approach that may result in durable drug-free remission of SLE disease.

People often ask about the legitimacy and/or safety of a number of websites which sell large resin statues. The more commonly-asked of those deal primarily in resins from studios which do not have a license from the Japanese IP holders to produce merchandise. Buying & Shipping

1. What’s the best place to buy my anime figures from?
That’s going to depend a lot on what works for you, but most people around here buy them from Amiami, Big in Japan, Hobby Search, HobbyLink Japan, or Tokyo Otaku Mode. If none of those work for you for whatever reason, there’s a list of reputable retailers in the sidebar that you can check out at any time. Be extra careful when ordering figures from websites like Amazon or ebay, as there are a lot of bootlegs on those sites. Don’t be afraid to ask in our Bootleg Megathread if you’re unsure.
2. What differences are there between the shipping options I get from most Japanese shops?
Below is a rundown of the main shipping choices you’ll get at most retailers. Keep in mind that if an order is large enough you will be forced to use one of the more expensive options, as SAL shipments have lower size and weight restrictions.
  • Unregistered SAL: Sometimes referred to as uSAL, is usually the cheapest method. It does not come with any tracking or insurance. Usually takes up 2-4 weeks for delivery.
  • Registered SAL: Sometimes referred to as rSAL, is insured for the declared value up to 6,000 yen. It comes with a tracking number and usually takes 2-4 weeks for delivery.
  • EMS: This method of shipping is much faster than either SAL options, usually arriving within a week of shipment. EMS shipments are insured for the declared value up to 2,000,000 yen.
  • Airmail
  • E-packet
  • Surface: Shops don't offer this very often. It's an actual cargo ship and slow as a result.
  • DHL: Becoming more available as an alternative to EMS on AmiAmi and other sites. Can be less expensive than EMS and of comparable speed, but may be more reliant on the specific geographical area being shipped to. The price is also determined by the size of the box. Offers their own tracking.
3. I placed two+ orders for figures at different times. Will my items be shipped together, or will I have to pay shipping twice?
Most shops will ask you to pay shipping on a per-order basis, but here are some that will allow combined shipping:
  • Amiami: You can combine orders here, as long as the orders ship in the same month. It doesn’t matter if the item is new or preowned. Any preorders that are set for that month can also be combined with other orders for that month. However, be aware that if the preorder gets delayed, Amiami will remove that item from that month’s shipment and place it on a new order. To combine orders on Amiami, use the “Combine Orders” feature under “My Account”.
  • Hobby Search: Hobby Search will let you combine orders that release in the same month, but you cannot combine in stock items with preorders. If you want to combine multiple preorders, or multiple in stock items, you can do so using the “Order Recombination” feature on your account page.
  • HobbyLink Japan: At HLJ, you have the option to send paid orders to their “Private Warehouse”, where you can store them for up to 2 months. When you’re ready to ship the items, you simply select which items to ship and HLJ will combine them into one shipment for you. To use this, just select the “Private Warehouse” option as shipping when you order.

4. When will I get charged for my preorder?
Most Japanese shops charge you once the item is in stock and ready for shipment. When that happens, they will send you an email asking for payment. Some shops (mostly overseas ones), will allow you to pay for the item up front though, if you’d like. A few with that option are:
  • Big in Japan (Japanese store)
  • Tokyo Otaku Mode
  • Anime Island
  • Crunchyroll
Keep in mind that overseas stores will likely get the figure a few months after Japanese ones, so pay attention to the release date stated on the website you are buying from so as to avoid that confusion.
5. Should I expect to pay customs fees when importing figures?
That depends on where you live. Here’s a quick rundown:
  • Australia: 10% GST is now assessed up front.
  • Canada: Minimum declared value for charges is around CAD$20 for regular shipments, and CAD$60 for gifts (gifting something only seems to lower the declared value by about CAD$40, not deplete it completely). When using Amiami, try their Small Air Packet option. It comes with tracking, gets there in about the same time as EMS, and is better at avoiding customs.
  • European Union: As of 1st July 2021, VAT has to be paid on all goods imported from outside of the EU. Retailers are supposed charge VAT for purchases under €150, however many Japanese retailers currently do not, so VAT will be charged when your order arrives in the EU. Orders that are >€150, VAT and duty will be charged by your local customs.
  • UK: As of 1st January 2021, VAT is to be charged by retailers for orders <£135. However, customs isn't currently charging VAT on parcels valued at <£135, even if the VAT hasn't been paid. Goods >£135 will have their VAT and duty calculated and charged by customs.
  • Mexico: Minimum declared value for customs fees is USD$300 for shipments by post, and USD$50 for shipments by courier.
  • United States: A shipment has to have a declared value of USD$2,000 before customs starts hitting you with fees, so you most likely won’t have to worry about them at all.
6. The figure I want is an exclusive, how do I go about ordering one outside of Japan?
You have three options for this:
A. Big in Japan is known to stock exclusive figures and ship to other countries. Usually the price is higher because they build in their proxy fees, but it’s easier than worrying about using a forwarder or proxy service. If you live in the US, Crunchyroll, Right Stuf, and Tokyo Otaku Mode also get exclusives sometimes, but out of the states the shipping can get expensive.
B. Forwarding Services: A forwarder is someone who you ship an exclusive item to so that they can forward the package on to you, usually for a flat fee + shipping. When using a forwarder you still make the purchase yourself, and enter their address into the shipping field. When the box arrives at the forwarder they will then stick your address onto the package and send it on its way.

C. Proxy Services: With a proxy, you tell them what the item you’re looking for is and they will purchase it in your stead. This is handy for when a company doesn’t accept foreign credit cards, or you’re having trouble navigating a Japanese website.

7. I see a bunch of really cheap figures that ship from China on ebay. Are those okay to buy?
Generally, no. They’re most likely bootlegs. If you want a second opinion on that, feel free to ask in the Bootleg Megathread that’s always stickied at the top of the sub.
8. What’s a bootleg, and how can I avoid buying them?
A bootleg is a counterfeit figure often made using rejected molds of the official product. They are usually priced significantly lower than the genuine article, and in order to make their profit, bootleggers use lower quality materials and have less attention to detail- resulting in a substandard figure.
The Bootleg Megathread that I mentioned in question 7 is a great tool to avoid buying any bootlegs. It has a few tips and tricks to avoiding them to begin with, and a few more on how to spot them if you’re worried you might already own one.
9. Does anyone know when figure X is going to be released? How do I know if it was delayed?
My Figure Collection (sometimes referred to as MFC) does an excellent job of staying on top of information like release dates and delays. If you’re curious about an upcoming figures release date, check there first. This information can be found directly under the “Releases” section on a figure’s entry. If you only see a month and a year in that section, it means the release date has not yet been announced by the manufacturer, and there is still a chance the figure could be delayed.
If you make an account on MFC you can also subscribe to comments, changes, and pictures via a checkbox on the right hand side of a figure’s listing. Subscribing to any of these things will allow MFC to send you an email anytime the subscription in question updates. Subscribing to “changes” is a great way to keep up with release dates and delays, among other things.
10. The figure I want is long sold out at normal retailers! What’s the best place to pick it up in the aftermarket?
A list of reputable retailers can be found under the “Shops” section of the /AnimeFigures sidebar. They all sell legitimate products, and many of them also sell figures second hand. However, the most frequently suggested second hand sites are Mandarake and Amiami- who has a preowned section that they update every night save Sundays and Japanese holidays around 1PM JST and again around 6PM JST.
AmiAmi grades their pre-owned items on a letter scale. The general consensus from buyers is that their ratings are conservative, so unless the item and/or packaging is specifically indicated as having significant flaws, pre-owned items from them are usually in at least as good a condition as their rating suggests.
Note: When you search Mandarake, you’ll get the best results by using the Japanese characters for whatever you are searching. If you don’t know them, you can find them on MFC by clicking on any of the “details” in that figure’s listing.
11. Amiami has a figure I’m interested in labeled as “For sale in Japan only”. Does this mean I can’t order it without a proxy or forwarder?
No, you can still order it. Amiami’s English site has that warning on many items, and it’s mostly meant to inform you that this product was made for a Japanese market, and as such, will have Japanese speaking/writing in it- so don’t expect any instructions to be in English. If Amiami doesn’t want foreigners buying a certain product, they won’t even list it on their English site.

Displaying Your Figures

12. What display cases do you recommend?
If you live near an Ikea try out one of these:
  • Klingsbo
  • Billy (Often used with Morliden doors (now the HÖGBO and glass shelves.)
  • Detolf: Formerly the go-to choice for inexpensive display cabinetry, the Detolf was first made flimsier around 2020 and then essentially phased out of the name, to become the BLÅLIDEN. Knockoff versions of widely-varying quality are commonly found on other shopping sites these days, though.
*If you decided on a Detolf, you might find that there is a lot of wasted space. Here are a few tutorials on raising the shelves or and adding extra ones in.
If you don’t live near an Ikea, Amazon has a few display options, though they are more expensive. Also keep an eye on your local Craigslist (or your country’s equivalent) and stores near you that are closing up.
13. What lighting do you guys recommend?
Ikea’s Dioder LED strips were discontinued after a long run. A current version is the Vattensten, if you're inclined to buy your case and lights at the same time.
LED strips have become very commonly available in recent years; most hardware and home furnishing stores carry a selection now. Just make sure that the lights don’t get too hot!
14. What are those clear plastic boxes that I see under everyone’s figures in their collection posts, and where can I get them?
Those are called risers. Most of us use standard acrylic risers like these. Some other, easy to find things that have been suggested are:
Check your local hobby store for the first 2 options, or your local hardware store if you want to make your own.
Another common suggestion is to visit The Container Store if you have one near you. They have a lot of things to choose from that can suit a variety of needs. Be sure to check out their standard acrylic risers, their Amac boxes, and the various display cases they sell (baseball cases, mini car cases. hockey puck cases, etc).
15. Should I keep my figures sealed?
That is, of course, up to you really, but here are a few things to keep in mind when debating this question:
  • Keeping it sealed can actually damage your figure. PVC figures usually have something called plasticizer in them, and that plasticizer needs to be able to breath. If a PVC figure isn’t exposed to oxygen, after a period of time the plasticizer starts to break down and form a sticky substance on the surface of the figure. Simply opening your figures and taking them out of the box prevents this from happening. If you happen to find plasticizer goo on one of your figures, Kahotan has a handy guide for dealing with it.
  • Unlike some other figure markets, keeping an anime figure sealed won’t raise its value by a whole lot. In fact, because of the plasticizer problem mentioned above, your figure could actually be in better condition if you open it versus keeping it sealed.

Finding the Right Figure(s) for You

16. What are "scales" and "prizes"? What is the difference between them?
Those are classifications for figures based on a few factors.
  • "Prizes" are generally more simply produced figures which are intended to be given as prizes for playing arcade games. They are inexpensive and lack the detail of scale figures, though some prize figure lines have standouts which may approach lower-end scales in quality. That is uncommon and often depends on the individual figure.
  • "Scales" are called such because they are nominally designed to be proportional to the dimensions of the character which they are based on. They are generally of much better manufacture and materials than prize figures, allowing for more detail in painting, accessories, or complex poses.
  • "Trading" figures appear in gashapon machines or as blind boxes on shop counters, often as sets which include multiple characters. As suggested by the class name, the randomness encourages trading. They are usually very inexpensively-produced, though as with prizes, some series are better than others.
  • "Non-scale" encompasses a variety of other categories. It is often used to describe poseable figure lines such as figma and Nendoroids.
In recent years producers such as Good Smile Company attempted to further bridge the gap between prize quality and scales by introducing figure lines which are intended to be moderately-priced while retaining a higher level of detail than the typical prize figure, to varying levels of success.
17. There are so many figure companies! Who makes good figures?!
Obviously this is a very subjective question, but as a general starting point, here are a few well renowned figure companies:
  • Alter
  • Max Factory
  • Good Smile Company
  • Kotobukiya (usually hit or miss for people. Use your best judgement based off of the prototype)
  • Flare
  • Stronger
18. I really love “series X / character X”- how can I check if any figures were ever made for it?
My Figure Collection can be your best friend here. Simply do a search on the name of the series or character using the search bar located at the top right of the screen, and all associated figures pop up!
Alternatively, if you’re looking at a figure’s MFC entry, most of the text under the “Details” section can be clicked on and used to run a search.
19. How can I commission a custom figure?
None of the major figure companies (Alter, Kotobukiya, Good Smile Company, etc.) will take a commission for a single figure. This thread has a few websites in it that you can check out, or you can look into garage kits. Some kit painters would be willing to resculpt, frankenstein together, or otherwise modify kits for the right price.

Keeping Up with New Announcements

20. How can I keep up with figure news (announcements, updates, etc.)?
Most people use a MFC combined with any or all of the following news sites:

21. Everyone’s excited about something called Wonfes….. what the heck is that?!
WonFes (short for Wonder Festival) is a biannual figure expo where many figure producers (both large and small) show off new sculpts and updates to figures already under way. Most companies save their most exciting announcements for WonFes, so we all look forward to the expo whenever it rolls around! Winter Wonder Festival is usually held in February, while Summer Wonder Festival is usually in July. The event has also spread to Shanghai, in the late spring.
22. One or two (or 15) figures were announced at WonFes that I’m really excited about! How can I keep track of their progress once the event is over?
MFC is always really quick about getting new WonFes announcements (or any others throughout the year, for that matter) listed in their database, so we suggest using that. To find a figure from the event you can search any number of things, including the name of the character or the name of the show. You can also use the tag search to search “WonderFestival 20xx_[season]” to see all items announced at that event.
