How do I(21M) get back at my ex(21F) after knowing her true intentions ?

2024.05.11 12:21 Different_Use8270 How do I(21M) get back at my ex(21F) after knowing her true intentions ?

So Hello everyone here !! This is my first time here. I (21M) am a student from a well known NIT in India. So I happen to have a gf(now 21F) at 2022. She was not exactly my gf in the first place. What she mentioned was something like F.W.B but I was too dumb at that time to understand that. Then later while we went on I don't know y maybe the fact that she was the first girl in my whole life who taught me more things talked with me more open (I am from a small town where girls won't talk that much to a boy) also the added fact that she is my everything (I'm Still a VIRGIN, if u can get it). The thing was I was too much of a beta, it is hard to accept that but that is the truth. example if she asks where we can go i'll let it be her choice, in my mind i was only doing things she likes. I'll be there everyday to meet her if she needed. She'll blabber everything to me and I'll listen (I'm not an extrovert like her so i did not have those much interactions as her). She also had a boy bestie at that time, yeah I know I started learning my lesson from there. She told me she started talking to me becoz my voice matched that of her boy bestie when we were on a online meeting and that time both had apparantly fought. I constantly told her I'mm not ok with him he might have other intentions but she assured and told me "I ONLY SEE HIM AS A BROTHER". I'll be honest , we were 3.5 months into that so called relationship and she never gave me any signs like this was a F.W.B one day i decided to propose her, so i cooked food from my hostel(its illegal still i did) then i went to meet her got on one knee and proposed she was very overjoyed and said yes thats how i confirmed she is in love with me(silly me). Also I never satisfied her in any means, according to her she was a patient (some tissue injury) so she never felt satisfied. All changed at December 4 i finally satisfied her(STILL A VIRGIN) and she dropped the bomb telling me - "We can break up and remain friends, I'm too afraid my father will find out bla bla..." I asked y not tell earlier and y now? she said " I wanted u to satisfy me, I would have done the same if u would have satisfied me any earlier" I was too in shock but stupid me wanted her. She told me we will still marry after college dont worry. Part of my still was ok as long she was my friend and i will convince her one day. After that we had end sems and I had 4 F's .
After going to home we spoke everyday. On one day roughly into 1.5 weeks into holidays she went on a date with that boy bestie(she did not say that but that was a date) now a past of that boy bestie he was the typical playboy according to her. He had a gf with whom he broke up right after having intimacy she mentioned how much of a playboy and bad boy he was who drank smoked and did drugs . He was a rich asshole both parents had nice income. I'll ask y not breakup then she'll say "he is my first boy best friend just like how I am to u" Silly me trusted and believed her. The current gf he was dating at that time was a rich one but not so good one according to him and recollecting those memories now she(my ex gf) was just jealous of that gf(boy bestie's) everytime she blabbered about their combo. He admitted himself that he was with her only fr her money to my ex gf and that his father was also supporting this. That asshole was studying in bhopal. Now I know most of u are already frustrated with me , thinking i am a joker and a clown seeing obvious red flags not breaking up with her. But please try to understand this was my first ever girl best friend and girl friend and my first ever relationship with any girl other than my mother(i dont have any siblings) my mom is from village so she always thought me to respect and be kind to girls so i always had a soft corner for any girl(Now i definitelly dont have one).
So she goes on that date and just tells how much of the date is that i simply get frustrated and change the topic. Now the very next day she fought with me in texts and said I have no exposure I never satisfied her, I'm not enough for her she want toxic boys who drink all those shit. I cannot believe those things this was not the girl i knew(or so i thought). That day started my sleep problems (which i have till today). Still with the clown mentality i spoke with her very next day inquiring her day she gave cold answers and day by day convo decreased. I had a gift for her which i already bought as a new yr present it was her small child photo with a qr to her fav song which she and her late grandfather used to listen. i just showed that to her in new yr and she was happy told me i still have a friend. I was still a fool and believed that. But the next day she told me she did the deed with her boy bestie and was saying she wanted to tell this to me. She was more excited to tell the fact that he undressed her in 3 seconds and told her how he wanted to be inside her back from when he was still at college in Bhopal . I simply asked y and abt the promise of her and me getting married after college all those but she straight up denied telling that and told me "I would have told that when i was in a happy mood how can i trust that...." i asked u told me he is like ur brotherr.... she was just silent then smiled and told me "Here after don't believe city girls".
After that the next sem was a full mess i could not forget her i blabbered to my friends about her . They listened everything and was a support to me. I had sleep issues i lost around 7 kgs and had attendance shortage in every course.
What made me come here is I have a friend who is in relationship with one of her friends/ I apparantly sometimes talk with that friend just hi, how r u , bye...
He spilled to me that the friend told him that she was planning to sleep with that boy bestie from the moment he came back in her life (after their fight) and also with me. When mine failed miserably (if i could not satisfy her in simple things then how in real things according to her). She went and did it with him. This thing both furiated and saddened me for a very large bit.
Some details about her: For a context she is a bit obese , i have met her father once and as per her he is the one that gives all this independence to her. When i mean independence not this cheating (i'm not sure though that man seemed very sketchy) but this modern thoughts hanging around going and having fun all the boys , according to him if she spends time only with girls then she is a lesbian that iswhat she told me. Her mother is a decent village woman who tries to crct her but of no use.
Now if u all have come this far most u are either pissed at my foolishness and some of u might be laughing and I acknowledge them I was indeed a beta simp with her. Now i forgot abt her for past 7 months till this was mentioned by him. Now i wanna get revenge and i need ideas pretty sure telling this to her father will do nothing so I need some plan and before u guys tell anything
I'm a normal looking dude with a bit fair tone and have no experience with girls after my ex i went through all stages grief, anger, sorrow , all girls are like these.... and i met one girl she was innocent did not have insta(not that this means innocent but thought in 2022 if a girl has no insta then she is diiferent) but she is i dont know whether worse than my ex but definittely equal to her. This girl will only speak with boys who are either manipulators who will manipulate her or with boys who have above 7.7 or 8.0 CGPA. I blocked her at may 2023 and still it is in that state. Then only i realised in this college no matter ur character girls must have interest in u and in ur way of speaking. Even if u drink and have a CGPA of 6.00 u can still get laid if u have game to speak with her, As for me I have no game neither did i drink. Yeah in my breakup stage i was heartbroken with no intention to sleep neither read but i did not touch alcohol or cigar many of the students here have them so it is easy to access but my mother did not raise me to be a loser who will simply drink to forget things and wake up next day to the same problems, that's not the way my mother grew me up I needed to face it and I did and here I am in Reddit for the first time asking u guys a help.
If some of u think that getting revenge is bad then remember there is another pure good hearted boy that will be potentially destroyed by her. I dont think i am a pure good hearted one now. I was before my ex. Now i only treat my friends with good hearts other i dont simply dont care and dont judge them. That's all I want to say. If u have any advice or any thing feel free to share. If u want to tell in the comments that i was joker it is fine go ahead that is the truth i was that clown and im trying to do things so that i can never be that guy, ur point of view is also appreciated, Thank u for reading my story all the way through!!!.

Professional trader here. I am going to turn $4k into $1M using a basic breakout trading strategy. Here is Day 1. Trading is simple, beatable, and small accounts have a huge edge.

FOR FUTURE UPDATES PLEASE CHECK NEW SUB: 4Kto1M

Setting very tight stops on FUV and PRTY. If they don't rise on open, I'm dumping them.
Still lots of good breakout candidates this week, a lot of the same names from last week.
Some names to watch today: AMC, TEN, HOFV, JILL, STEM, SESN, EH, WKHS, MDJH, EAST, LEDS, ASXC, RSVA
The meme stonk AMC has caught up with the 20 SMA and formed a nice big flag so this is an important day for it and I will be watching closely. If it bounces off the 20 hard it could make another run up.
Dumped PRTY and FUV
Bought 50 shares WKHS at 16.45
Bought 200 shares ASXC at 3.55
Bought 20 shares EH at 41.70
Those are probably my last buys for today, though there is a small chance I will buy AMC as its showing some strength.
Lot of names I am holding are selling off a bit, but that's to be expected after the big runup last week.
I created a sub for my updates so I don't have to keep updating the original post over and over, so feel free to check that out if you are still following.
Bought 18 shares AMC at 58.55

WEEKEND UPDATE!

It was a very strong first week. Total profit: ~$650. Total return: ~16%. S&P return over same period: ~2.8%
It is very unlikely I will achieve results this good every week. But just to put things into perspective, if I did achieve these returns every week, I would reach my goal in just 9 months time.
Enjoy the weekend everyone. Keep studying and practicing. And as always I'm happy to answer your questions.
https://preview.redd.it/za1h17s4zg771.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=ead3006ccc5be2200e0458245c0828b7fdd46f08
Bought 35 shares CRCT at 35.74
Bought 45 shares FUV at 16.09
Bought 60 shares PRTY at 10.20
Sold EAST at 2.98
Probably my last trades for the day. Trying to avoid more than 3 due to PDT.
CRCT running like PIRS was yesterday, up over 20%. And SPCE up 35%.
Few believed me when I said this was an easy game and small accounts have a huge edge. But the haters have gotten real quiet this week...
Beginning to slowly scale down my positions and take profits now. Going into the weekend a bit lighter. Congrats to everyone who followed my trades. But remember, there is no future in copying someone else, you have to learn to fish for yourself!

DAY 4 UPDATE

Good morning everyone! I see both SPCE and PIRS are up HUGE in premarket! Gonna be another good day for me (and anyone who followed).
Here are the names I am watching this morning:
TEN, HOFV, ORMP, JILL, ZIM, STEM, BBW, EDRY, ATOM, LE, ANTF, PRTY, SESN, FUV, OSAT, RZLT
Sorry there are so many names today, but there are so many amazing setups recently! More than a few of these might pop. After I dump EAST and probably HDSN I'll have cash for maybe picking 3 or 4 of these names on breakout.
I'm actually seeing a pretty decent flag forming on AMC of all names. Hard to believe it could pop again, but it's looking good technically. Couple more days for the 20 DSMA to catch up.
Good luck everyone!

DAY 3 UPDATE (close)

The day started off poorly at first, with BBIG gapping down a whopping 10% on bad news in premarket, costing us around $70 in profit. But you can't let such things get to you, just push it aside and keep trading well. The rest of the portfolio held up nicely, and we ended up with a fantastic trade in PIRS which rallied over 20% toward close. I'd like to hear the people who completely reject TA explain how I was able to anticipate such a huge move right before it occurred with no knowledge of any fundamentals or news events for the company... but that's a topic for another day.
I bought EAST as well which did literally nothing so I'll be dumping that tomorrow if it shows no movement. I took some profits and reduced my positions across the board to free up some more capital and also reduce my exposure since I've been leveraged to the tits the past two days.
https://preview.redd.it/ays1iqdcy9771.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=8cbfcc598cc1c02db6e7e2891b0ed23ff67ba68d

DAY 3 UPDATE

Good morning everyone! Wow, I got a lot of hate mail overnight for some reason, salty Europeans or something lol. It's ok, I will let my results do all the shit talking. I'll just say this: Avoid having a "loser" mentality in life. If you think something is impossible, then it is, especially for you.
Now I've been getting a lot of repeat questions to things I've already answered. Mostly about my scanners. So below you will find a screenshot of my one month scanner settings in TOS. I also use a 3 month and 6 month scanner. I have some other scanners as well but you don't need to worry about those.
I will also be including a screenshot of my orders the past couple days for those who are doubting them for some reason.
Those asking about the process I am using, it is relatively simple. Before bed I go through all my scanner results, which is usually around 120 names or so. What am I looking for? A strong momentum stock, meaning something that has risen hard in the past few weeks or months. I want to see the price action slow down and consolidate, and form a nice "high, tight flag" (HTF). Ideally the price action will be riding on top of or bouncing off of the 20 day moving average. Things above the 20 day are usually overextended, and things below are usually too weak. Right near the 20 is the sweet spot, although it can be slightly above it as well.
Once I spot a good stock, I draw my triangle around the flagging price action, if possible. I set an alert to the upper bound of the flag so I will be alerted if the price action crosses the range. And I add the name to my breakout watchlist.
In the morning before open, I go through my entire watchlist and see which names have either broken through the range overnight or are very close to breaking out. These are the primary breakout candidates I will be looking to enter. If it crosses the range strong during market hours, meaning fast and with good volume, then I buy with a simple limit order just above the current price. My broker TDA is usually pretty good about improving my fill prices.
Hopefully that answers most of the questions. Now on to todays action.
The primary breakout candidates I am watching are PIRS, HOFV, ORMP, and JILL.
PIRS in particular has a fantastic chart and very tight range. It is setting up for some big price action potentially. I will be dumping BBIG on market open to free up $1k specifically for PIRS. The other 3 names look strong as well.
Other breakout candidates today: EAST, BBW, EDRY, WRAP, and perhaps even BB which is showing some strength on the 20 day.
Good luck everyone!
Edit: Wow, maybe I should have kept my mouth shut about PIRS. It's popping in premarket lmao
Great and ORMP is spiking too... Stop frontrunning my trades assholes!
https://preview.redd.it/8tezi9wo87771.png?width=1644&format=png&auto=webp&s=c340a98d39d7727a4eb0bd149ddd6c0555b9e13a

DAY 2 UPDATE

Market was flat but it was a great day for trading. Nearly a dozen tickers I was watching broke out today. I quickly ran out of capital and had to skip some good names, but I got a couple of the better ones.
There is a good chance I will dump BBIG and EH in the morning if they don't perform well. Perhaps HDSN as well. I need to free up some collateral for opportunities tomorrow.
https://preview.redd.it/xnl9sy97s2771.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=093008d24710601e806617c802a453acee74d587
Here are the updated charts for all of my current positions. Hopefully these charts are more than enough to get the basic trade strategy I am following. These will probably be the last charts I add since 8 is more than enough.
As always I'm happy to answer any questions. Good luck gentlemen.

2021.03.28 00:19 JonF1 Pushing back against some ideas with education reform

I. Schools shouldn't be made responsible for teaching everything someone needs to know in life.
Why? For one, that's impossible. Common examples such as "Schools dont teach us how to file taxes" involve things that are constant flux. The Tax code is constantly changing, and the 1040 EZ form is no longer available. If you incorporate or leave the US, then most common information isn't that useful, Most people just use a tax preparer anyway.
What schools should focus on is making sure that every pupil or as many as possible are learning skills on how to seek out their own knowledge and answers, because not everything in life is going to have an answer guide to it or have a teacher that is going to spoon feed you what you need to know.
Teaching students on how to read and performer research is the most important thing a school do.
Obviously we shouldn't throw students to the wolves without any sort of giddiness, but too much spoon feeding levels students unhealthily dependent on preserved authorities for information instead of being able to critical think for themselves.
II. Standardized tests are overly-demonized
Yes, I'm aware that PISA isn't exactly apples to apples in that "less bright" kids in many other nations will have already been sorted out of the high schools that take PISA exams.
If the PISA is to be treated as anything of value, most of the nations that preform much higher than us have a much larger Standardized test culture. One notable exception would be Finland which only really has one standardized test at the end of secondary education, but it's still still be noted that American mostly lacks this as well. America doesn't have a leaving exam / leaving certification other counties have such as the UK's GCE.
The problem with American standardized exams that they suck and there these shitty exams are taken too often, not that they are standardized exams. Many state standardized exams are nearly purely multiple choose exams that are designed to be easy to beat with very simple test taking strategy.
Many of us with professional degrees such for example, counting, engineering, medicine, have have to take some sort of standardized exam to either to practice or be regarded as reputable (PE exam for Civil Engineers CPA license for accountants) or seek education such as the MCAT. While exams may not be perfect, they are still have been good enough to show that the examined has at least some degree of knowledge and/or proficiency.
I think states should reduce how many standardized tests students should be taking and focused of quality over quantity. As a resident of Georgia (born in 1999), nearly every year of K-9 education, i took something called a CRCT (Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests) which were a series of purely mutable choice that ate nearly a week out of each school year which is ridiculous and not developmentally appropriate.
It's not that we don't trust teachers to evaluate student growth, its that evaluation isn't equal because we have our biases. I bet a lot of use remember a teacher or a professor that was known for having classes that are much easier to pass than others.
III. We are often too quick to assume/clam racism instead of talking about uncomfortable issues.
I know this is going to be brought up, if it matters, I am black myself and I am not trying to dismiss the reality of institutional racism.
Often we are so quick to throw out racism as an excuse for the reason for poor performance on exams and within the classroom.
It's preventing use from addressing anti intellectual behaviors and beliefs among poor white and black communities, especially in the south. Extreme infantilization these people who do need legitimate help often stops communities from changes in ways they need to in order for anything to really improve.
And I don't mean to come off like Bill Cosby's Pound cake speech, I am just saying us as a black community will have to want change too, we can't just think white people will just swoop in and fix everything.
IV. Stop expecting schools and teachers to be Superman.
While I think standardized tests are valuable, I think teachers should be held so personally responsible for how their students are scoring on them. Teachers cannot not help the fact that many students are coming from homes where they may be being abused, neglected, or underfed. So much about eadacemic performance is determined before a student walks through the classroom door.
Short of basically re-homing and fostering some students, there becomes a point where an educator has done all they can reasonably do to help a student.
V. "Teacher school/Education BA" isn't selective enough and is quickly becoming a hugbox.
I am really not making this a stem lord thing. I know people who have degrees in medical history that have very satisfying careers (both in terms of pay and personal interest).
Teacher school isn't selective enough because what Business school is to Men, Teacher school is to Women, both get a lot of people who (no offense really aren't bright enough for university as these people tend to struggle hardcore in even basic English 101/rocks for jocks courses ) but are just told by their parents/HS counselors to to to school and "get a degree". The problem with this is that being a teacher is much harder than a typical desk jockey job.
So not only are education schools filling up with people who really aren't cut out for the job, the education collages themselves aren't really teaching or even begging to teach future teachers the people/children/parent management, lesson planning skills, etc. Education education is too focused on theory, a lot is hastily researched studies rife with various forms of bias.
VI. "Un schooling"/free range parenting is white people shit that honestly just leaves kids unable to deal or function in the real world.
I agree with the idea that students/kids need more unstructured/recess time in order to just... enjoy life and be to learn how to socialize with peers and take time to develop their own interests and passions.
VII. People a reasonable expectation to undistributed and/or developmentally appropriate education. I understand that "talented and gifted classes" socialization a bit. After. After a certain point it it just becomes sacrificing the bight's student's needs of developmentally appropriate education for an vain attempt that some "some" of the bright kids will rub off on the students that are behind, etc .

Curious to see what people's expectations are regarding the 2020 season given the ongoing pandemic. Updated the answers a little to reflect the fact that the season is for certain not complete anymore.
Figured we'll keep running this every other weekend or so (if I remember to post it every week) until we have a definitive look.
Not planning on doing anything with it, just thought it might be interesting to see how we're all feeling about the season.

2019.09.25 18:14 nickvalentino I’m not in control

I hate my life. I actively think about suicide, even this morning in the midst of a English test, but I will never act upon it. Just the thought of how much pain it would bring to my family, especially my mother, is enough to scare me away from actually doing it.
I’ve been taking Adderall for ADHD for as long as I can remember. I don’t remember much of my performance in school prior to high school but I do know that over the years, my motivation, my care for anything and my performance in school has drastically been decreasing since the end of 5th grade. I don’t know what happened or what I did, but I just can’t get back on track.
In elementary school, I loved to learn. I enjoyed going to school and I was greatly motivated to try very hard and my grades were very high. I loved reading but I think it was mostly because there was an incentive to read—the AR system, where you can read a book, test on it and earn points. Both elementary schools that I attended greatly rewarded active readers with high amounts of points and total words read. After finding out that this system was no longer in use after elementary school, I no longer cared to read unless it was about a topic that I actually cared to read about, like medicine and science—the only things I really like now. I was also really good at math and during timed tests where we have to complete 100 multiplication problems as fast as we can, I competed with the teacher; Ms. Taber, you actually cared for your students and I thank you. I was one of if not the fastest student in math. During all of my elementary school career I was excelling in math, I was on the math team and i was one of the top students in math. I even scored a perfect score on the math portion of the CRCT, a standardized state test in 5th grade. I remember finishing about 15-20 minutes early and the proctor, who was one of the teachers, told me to go back over my answers and double check. I refused several times and eventually gave in, pretending to check all my answers and just penciled in over previously filled answers. I was so proud of myself for scoring a perfect 100 on that portion since it was very rarely heard of and I was one of the only students in a long time to do so.
But what the fuck happened? I recall this one time in 4th grade, I refused to do a handout that I was given by my teacher. I don’t remember what it was or why I didn’t do it, but I do think that I didn’t want to do it, because I was either unable to do it, or I was unable to focus enough to do it. I even threw that sucker in the trash hoping she would just forget about it and move on. I also remember another situation in which we were having class reading time and we were in the last few pages of the book. I read ahead silently and after finishing, blurted out loud, “I finished!”, in the midst of her reading the book. I don’t know why I would do that or why I did. I can only assume that my ADHD or my ego got to me at the time.
When I was about 8 or 9, my parents got a divorce. I don’t know why. I never witnessed them fight or not get along but ONCE. And even then, all I can remember is seeing my mom crying and walking off to her room. I never asked my parents why they got a divorce, as I’m afraid to know and when I actually cared enough to question why, they responded with, “I’ll tell you when you’re older.” I guess that’s a parent tactic to get me to eventually forget or not care enough to ask anymore. But that divorce hit me hard. This is the beginning of my downhill stretch for the pit of depression and self-loathing.
I didn’t understand why my parents divorced and it really turned my life upside down. I lived in a sub-rural area. About 10-20 minutes outside of town in a pretty big neighborhood. I lived in a nice big house too. My mother grew up in Manchester, a town of about less than 10,000, I believe, although higher now. And my father grew up in Ohio, before enlisting in the army and being stationed in Ft. Benning, where he met my mother in Columbus. They married, had me, father left the army and they bought land and built a house in Midland, GA. This house was amazing, not huge but just enough for us to live comfortably. It had 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and an attic room that also doubled as a 4th bedroom. My half-brother stayed there. God I miss those memories of living there.
I don’t remember exactly which grade I was in during and immediately after the divorce, but I do believe there is a strong correlation between my decrease in performance and the mental load I took from that divorce. I endured a lot of stress after the divorce, and for whatever reason, unknown to me, I started to pull my hair out whenever I was angry or stressed. I only did this at home but it started to show and after a while, I had a huge bald spot as if I was a 60 year old man with a receding hair line. I hate this memory. I’ve somehow learned to completely block it out and for years, I never once thought about it or even remembered the event. I’m extremely self conscious about it and the upbringing of this event led to the loss of a friendship between me and a good friend of mine. She brought it up and I spazzed out, as I was overwhelmed with anger, stress, and a refreshment of what I believe is the lowest point in my life. But I now realize that point is now. Not then.
Since the beginning of sixth grade, I’ve shown little care and effort towards most everything in life, especially school. I don’t care to be in school. I rather go to college. I regret never reading up on dual enrollment because I much rather do that then spend another year at this stressful ass school. My school is very work demanding. I go to a college preparatory school and I guess how that works is to cram as many classes in a day as possible and by giving absurd amounts of homework in each class. And then when college rolls around, it’ll be easy as shit because college is no where near as hard. We even had a class discussion about how our school is the most likely next school to be shot up given how stressed out students are. It’s ridiculous. Administration doesn’t really care. I feel like I could handle it if I didn’t have ADHD. It makes it so hard. In the past week, I’ve literally done nothing. No homework, no studying, fucking nothing. My A’s are turning into B’s, which have turn into really low B’s and C’s. I have a 53 in English. English was never my strong suit, although when I get into something I’m knowledgeable about and care enough about, I feel like I can write really well. One example is this very post. In fact, growing up, I used to write little short stories for fun. For fucking fun. I was even writing a mini chapter book. Of course I was only in like the 2nd or 3rd grade, so it was of hilariously bad quality.
But i feel like my ADHD has made it very hard for me to stay afloat in English. I read an article mentioning how those with ADHD struggle with executive function. In fact, Kids with ADHD struggle with executive function. That’s because the three main EF skills are responsible for attention and self-regulation. Executive function is responsible for the following five skills: paying attention (I constantly phase in and out of focus and can rarely pay attention, unless it’s something I care about. Like my human anatomy class, I love asking questions and learning about the human body.), organizing and planning, initiating tasks and staying focused on them (I struggle with this the most, explains why I never do my homework because I just physically can not bring myself to do it. It’s terrible. And even worse, I know that if I don’t do it then i will get a 0 for the homework and my grades will fall. Yet, I still sit there and rather play video games or ANYTHING besides starting on the homework.), regulating emotions and self monitoring. I’m just extremely stressed out and don’t have anyone to turn to. I’m not comfortable enough with anyone to explain all of this except to random strangers on the internet. My mother doesn’t quite understand what I’m going through and expects so much more of me. And I want to fulfill those expectations and I rather suffer than give in and tell her that I can’t. I can’t work and complete high school at the same time. This isn’t a normal high school. I always have work to do, if I don’t have physical homework to complete, then I need to be studying. I have so much material to learn and working fucks with everything. But I have to have a job. I need the money. I’m paying for my own phone and my car is near it’s end and I’m about to have to start paying for it as well. I really only want the money because I rather support myself instead of fully relying on my parents. Even though with their combined incomes, although divorced, I’m middle class. I had a talk with my mother about this. She could support me and be fine with it and honestly if I explained everything to her, she would prefer that I quit my job, focus on school and rely on her. But god that’s just stressful for her. She’s an accountant, a CPA and a partner of the current firm she’s working at. She because a partner about a year ago. I’m proud of her. She also smokes and I really want her to quit, but I’ve come to the consensus that that’ll never happen given her job and having to care for me, and my 2 siblings.
The only relief I find in life is video games, drugs, hanging with my close friends and the occasional interest in computer science, biology, human anatomy or anything medical related—before my ADHD decides to make me unable to educate myself. I smoke occasionally, drink rarely and have a juul. Right now I really wish I had. I don’t like having a juul but when I’m really stressed, just the thought of hitting it a few times is really soothing, or the act of doing it itself. I’m not addicted, I had one junior year for a month or so, quit cold turkey and then just picked one up last week during my senior year. About an hour and a half ago I really wish I was just high as shit. I wanna escape society.
Not to get the point I was leading up to the entire time. Sorry I got carried away and just wrote all of this within the span of about 2 hours. I hate my life. I’m not in control. I hate high school, I hate being stressed, I hate that I can’t function as a normal fucking human being. I don’t wanna be where I am now. I hate society, how corrupt America is, how greedy people can be, it’s just disappointing. I like medicine, thanks to Greys Anatomy. And I know the show is nothing like being a real doctor, but it sparked in me an interest for medicine. Since then, I’ve always lit up at the idea/discussion of anything medical. I signed up for AP Biology, the class is really hard but I like the material and I like learning about it. But I don’t like the environment. I like my teacher. She’s really cool and actually cares about our interest in whatever she’s teaching. When one of us asks a more in-depth question about the topic, I like to think she lights up the same way I do about medicine. But the class is boring. I’m the only senior in the class, along with about 1 junior and the rest of the class is filled with sophomores. I don’t know anyone and none of these kids are on my level of not giving a shit. They’re too.... goody goody, per say. It’s a terrible way to put it and not really what I’m trying to say but you get the point. I just wanna learn on my accord, at my own pace, somewhere where I’m comfortable and not stressed about grades and such. That’s not possible and I get that. So I’ll settle for college. But I’ll have to complete one more year of high school. And I know it’s just one more year but I don’t think I can handle it. At first I was doing fine, now I’m falling apart and it’s getting worse. I just stopped caring. I want to drop out. I want out. I want out of life. I don’t want to do this. I’m not suited for this, and I feel as if no one understands. Partly because I haven’t voiced my opinion, mainly because I’m afraid. Afraid of being a failure. I just wish someone knew EXACTLY what was going on and could accommodate everything for me. But that’s not gonna happen, and that’s bad of me to expect something like that.
Anyways that’s about all I have to say. I left out a lot of information. Maybe another day I’ll revisit this and add to it. I have it on my notes pad. I only meant to add info relevant to me not being in control but then I decided to give some background info and I kinda just spilled. I guess this really shows how badly I need a therapist. I’ll get one soon.
If you read all of this, thank you. I really appreciate it.

2016.12.12 23:59 Avinashkandavalli7 Imagination in Schools

Albert Einstein once said, “Logic will get you from A to Z, imagination will get you everywhere.” Imagination is dreaming, innovating, creating things that are not yet present in the world today. Logic is sticking to principles set by what we see, it has no imagination, no originality, no talent. Do we need to remove imagination from the schooling system to allow our graduation rates to grow? Do we need to remove the individual to make school more standardized for everyone? Do we need to have millions of children conform to boundaries set by teachers, administrators, politicians? Shall we kill the individual and save the society? We are all born yearning to learn, grow, imagine. From a young age we start our process of developing how we act in the world and how we want society to view us as an individual and how we want to be treated by society. Our journey begins immediately after we are born. We begin by having our parents telling us fairy tales and stories to put us to bed. These stories satisfy our imagination and we see a world where anything is possible based on our view of the story. We imagine our own stories and we dream about these stories. We find out about “The Tooth Fairy” and “Santa Claus” and even “The Easter Bunny”. And then we get told that these people are not true once we are a few years into school. It's our first ‘reality check’. Once school starts we have a curriculum where teachers have to meet these standards for the test at the end of the year. We spend all year doing the same exact thing, year after year. Yes, what we learn changes, the rigor changes, the time period changes, but overall it is the same. Whether we are learning addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division or we are learning geometric shapes, functions, algebraic equations the net result is the same. The final exam. The EOC. The SLO. The CRCT. We study for the test. We study for the quiz. We study for our grade, not for our education. What happened to the child that imagined? The child that was read those fairy tales and imagined a world where anything was possible? School hit. And it hit hard. We get to show our ‘imagination’ sometimes in essays or short answer questions instead of multiple choice questions. Once we enter middle school around half of us still have that passion and that drive to prove ourselves in a way that we don’t have to resort to rules and restrictions, there are no boundaries, it’s our proving ground. Teachers grade these essays based on grammar, what the curriculum says, and how well developed it is. The actual imagination and viewpoints of these essays/short answers are gunned down. All our imagination is slaughtered within our first few years in school and the passion for showing off our imagination is destroyed. Creativity has been taken out of school. It is now up to politicians to choose whether or not to put it back into schools by creating programs for imagination. Adjusting the curriculum so that imagination is greater than logic. Adjust the curriculum for the child that used to dream. We’re past the point of no return. We can’t save ourselves by putting imagination back into schools and expecting to see the change in us, we can see it in the next generation. The future.

2016.12.03 20:21 Juanvds Been learning for like three days, I want to be able to check if the user input is equal to any of the items in a list.

Hello everyone! I've been having fun learning python with some books and online resources and decided to do a stupid quiz for my history classmates. What I haven't figured out, is how to check if what they wrote as an input was a valid option. (line 24 probably?)
Thanks a lot in advance!
#Options with their respective answers dictators = { "Stalin" : "Commie", "Mao" : "Asian Commie", "Hitler" : "Funny Moustache for all", "Castro" : "Soy T-Bone la arana discoteca", "Mussolini" : "Ravioli" } #Point counter points = 0 #Making a list with the keys of the dictionary list_of_dictators = dictators.keys() for dictator, ideology in dictators.items(): print "You have %s points!" % points """Show amount of points""" crct_guess = dictator print ", ".join(dictators.keys()) #Make the list nicer usr_guess = raw_input("Which of the available dictators match the following ideology?:" + "\n" + " %s" % ideology) #Asking user for input """I want to put something here that checks if the user input corresponds to any of the valid options""" if usr_guess == crct_guess: print "You're Right!" points += 1 else: print "You ignorant slut, the right answer was obviously %s" % dictator print "Results!" print "You scored %s points out of %d" % (points, 5) if points == 4 or points == 5: print "Congratulations! You'll have your own totalitarian state in no time!" elif points == 3: print "You're almost there young Goebbels" elif points == 2: print "Not quite there yet; Recommended readings: Mein Kampf, Little Red Book, Communist Manifesto" else: print "You useless piece of untermensch, you should be purged"

2016.02.01 12:43 Juanvds Small history quiz with dictionaries; why is this not working?

Hello!, I've started learning Python, and I thought I'd do a little something funny for my History class, however; it doesn't seem to be working; it's probably something very noobish, but I can't seem to find the mistake; no matter what the answer is, it will always show as wrong. Thanks in advance!
dictators = { "Stalin" : "Commie", "Mao" : "Weird Commie", "Hitler" : "Funny Moustache for all", "Castro" : "Soy T-Bone la arana discoteca", "Mussolini" : "Ravioli" } for dictator in dictators: print dictator crct_guess = dictators.get(dictator) print crct_guess usr_guess = raw_input("Which of the dictators matches with the previous ideology?") if usr_guess == crct_guess: print "You Win!" elif usr_guess != crct_guess: print "You ignorant slut"

2012.05.15 03:57 blablbalb Ubuntu 12.04 *ERROR* !

So I have recently installed ubuntu 12.04- coming from linux mint deb. I have played with older installs like 11.10, but not recently. I am running a Lenovo W520 and the real problem is (almost positive) with my nvidia graphics card. I have been runnng Ubuntu 12.04 for a few days, everything working great until cue music a few hours ago I got this error CRCT 63 and CRCT 64 and now I am stuck in a 640x480 resolution. Somehow through messing around I have gotten rid of the error, yet the resolution remains. I have bumblebee installed and all that jazz now, but under the 'additional drivers' tool (sys menu) it still shows me no drivers. I have looked around for answers, but have not found anything that has worked/is very clear..it seems as though there have been a lot of people with this same issue.
This has happened once before out of the blue and I just reinstalled to fix it. I could do it again and it would fix itself, but I want to figure out why it keeps getting messed up.
tl;dr My resolution is stuck in tiny mode and I want it to be big again - also nvidia drivers aren't there, halp!

2011.01.15 21:45 Xonar2 Income Inequality: How it Happened, How to Fix It

Wrote this last night as I tried to fall asleep. Long time reddit lurker, but made an account today just to throw this out there.
As always, I find myself engaged in random debate and thinking exercise as I find it hard to sleep. Tonight's question is, essentially, how American society has failed so many of its citizens. The numbers of the “faceless poor” are overwhelming. Nowhere is there a better example than in good old Athens, Georgia. The poverty levels right next to a major university are sickening. I will teach the children of those families in April and May. How can people like this exist in America?
Well, of course, that question is very hard to definitively answer. I think that the best picture of life in America comes from the examination of income inequality. Currently, there is a good deal of income inequality in the United States; currently (2007), the top 10 percent of wealthy Americans control close to 50% of the country's wealth. In 1952, just after WWII, that number was 33%. Why is this a good indicator of overall societal well-being? Well, because if the bottom 90% control more of the wealth, then obviously they all have more money as a whole (granted, inflation makes this obsolete, but the point remains that whatever amount of money is flowing through the economy, the greater percentage of it an individual controls, the better off they are in relation to the rest of the population). 33% to 50% is an ENORMOUS shift in wealth, especially as the U.S. Economy has grown so much in the past 60 years. How have the rich managed to get richer and white-out the poor out of existence so effectively, especially in the wake of the Civil Rights Movement, Great Society reforms, huge education overhauls, and greater participation in philanthropy than any other citizenry in the history of the world?
That's the question I've been wrestling with as I toss and turn at three in the morning. It's what “normal” people my age do, I'm sure. Now, again, it is kind of late, but I've come up with several theories as to how this happened. And also how it DIDN'T happen.
As a future educator, my first (primal?) instinct is to look towards the educational system. Not that I think that schools have failed our children, because I don't. What I look at is the lack of funding for education overall. I don't understand how a nation so concerned with education can continue to so deeply underfund it. We are paying BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to people just because they are old, and yet have teachers begging on DonorsChoose.org for basic classroom supplies like TEXTBOOKS to teach our children. How messed up is that? I could write another essay about this, but I'll refrain for now.
Despite these feelings and realities about our educational system, I believe that it is not the problem. Why? Because Americans were doing quite well in the 1940s, 50s and 60s without all of these high-powered educational reforms, many of which occurred only after 1986. Americans were able to send people to the moon using a slide rule, and, somehow, WITHOUT taking and passing the CRCT. The data suggests that people were better off when education was much worse than it is today. The reforms are good and are making schools better, even if the numbers are still underwhelming (again, another essay!!!), so education is not a root cause of income inequality.
So, if everyone's favorite societal punching bas is not the cause, what is? I think that there are three root causes: the rise of the financial sector, family disintegration, and white flight. I'll break them all down briefly, because I really do need to sleep.
So, financial sector. I don't have any hard data at the moment to support this, but I think it is obvious that the primacy and importance of the financial sector has increased dramatically since the 1950s. A lot of it is fueled by credit and debt; Visa came on the scene in the 1970s and changed personal finance for the worse for millions of people, of course at Wall Street's enormous gain. As dependence on credit grew, the need for more and more money to fuel our appetite for Mastercard and Chase was inconceivably high. So, bankers turned to their trusted friend: stocks. Ever-expanding profits became increasingly important; more and more companies went public and engaged in elaborate accounting/merging/politicking to appease their stockholders, many of them mutual fund managers that were in charge of tons of people's money. As the need for profits to fuel America's credit addition reached a fever pitch, companies needed leaders that could deliver the goods. They were willing to pay these leaders very, very well. In such a results-driven world, obviously this machine fed itself, until we are now at the point where CEOs routinely make 300 times the amount an average worker in their company makes. The rise of the financial sector in importance in the American economy was driven by the rise of credit and economic expansion, and created a class of very wealthy people at the top of the financial food chain, while leaving nonparticipants in this industry way, way behind in terms of income.
I'll tackle white flight next, because I think that'll be the quickest. It's a well-known historical fact that white and other privileged groups fled major metropolitan areas after blacks and Latinos gained political power in the 1960s. Whites saw these societal shifts, both consciously and unconsciously, as an attack on their way of life. So, they fled to newly-created Suburbia, leaving only dark cores behind. What a lot of people don't think about is that “white flight” was not just a geographical phenomenon, but also a societal one. Whites left cities and created great, safe communities, with impeccable schools and opportunities to do just about anything. I should know, I live in such a community. One thing you understand from living in Suburbia is that Suburbanites are very quick to attack anyone of lower economic stature from joining the party. When my community wanted to add an apartment complex several years ago, residents vehemently shot the proposal down. It was as if people were suggesting to sell babies for food or something. People were terrified at the prospect of low-income people living in our community, citing dangers like crime and, sadly, schools getting worse with the introduction of lower-income students.
What this speaks of is the societal consequence of white flight, which is insulation by the upper middle class and upper class. We all live in bubbles; we send our children to awesome schools, live in expensive houses in neighborhoods where you can't live if you're not in the upper tax brackets, and generally only spend time in areas with our own kind. The supremely rich don't even risk sending their children to public school; it's private school and private neighborhoods and private everything in their insulated bubbles of existence, shutting out the swarms of unfortunates from these resources. (This phenomenon has also fueled credential inflation, again, another topic for another day, but something that is an important consequence of this movement). This insulation keeps rich kids in good schools and in places where wealth-building activity is encouraged (college, staying away from trouble, doing “rich” things, etc.) and poor kids in opposite environments.
The third reason, in my mind, for the dramatic increase in income inequality over the past half century is the disintegration of the traditional family. I'm not about to get all anti-gay on you, so don't even go there. You know better. This is about the rise of single-parent households. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 50% of children will now spend at least some time in a single-parent household before age 18. In 1970, that number was 11%. Think about it. I don't have to tell you this has had a bad effect on society by itself.
But how has it contributed to income inequality? This is where a lot of my opinion comes in. I have been very blessed to have a family with two very devoted parents who would never, ever split up, and who always encouraged me to do things that would help me to “win” in our society, “winning” representing replicating my parent's socioeconomic status by becoming an upper-middle class American. It remains to be seen if a teaching salary can accomplish this, but again, for another essay. I believe very strongly that had I only had Mom or Dad around, not all of this encouragement would have come my way. Single parents have less time to spend raising their children, and so as the divorce rate increased over time, the overall measure of “parenting power” in the population has diminished. See 'MTV Generation', 'iPod Generation' etc. etc. In 2008, 46% of marriages ended in divorce, and a first marriage lasted on average just 8 years. This means that when a baby is born, you can flip a coin, and if it's heads, chances are the parents will be divorced/separated by the time that child is eight. I'm starting to get off topic with this one, so I'll get straight to the point: the less positive parenting a kid receives, the less likely he or she will do things that will produce a “win” in our society. Thus, because there are way more single-parent households in our society as compared to 1950/60, more kids are not getting the parenting and support they need to be successful, and thus end up with lower incomes. Boom! Instant income inequality increase, and you didn't even need Visa to take you there.
