Do Autel Scanners Require WiFi To Do Anything?

2024.05.30 00:21 very_anonymous Do Autel Scanners Require WiFi To Do Anything?

So I am about to pull the trigger on an Autel tablet scanner, but I have seen a couple comments/reviews saying these things require an active WiFi connection to even read codes. Is that true?
And while we are at it, without getting too much in to "it depends on what you need it to do", these Autel's are a generally highly regarded? I only started looking at them because a couple people I watch on YouTube have them and they look amazing.

Techs. Please recommend a scanner
Ok so I had an issue with my 2021. I never take any of my vehicles to a shop other than alignment. I have dr. Prius. Garage pro. Both use Bluetooth. I have an older obd2 scanner. I could not pull codes from this vehicle and it had some especially with me going across the engine unplugging coils trying to isolate the miss. Gtss plus??? Will the scanner pictured work ?

2024.05.15 06:34 PainlessDeath09 Hypermiling a 7th Gen Accord!

Hypermiling a 7th Gen Accord!
Hypermiling a 7th Gen Accord in Bangalore Traffic
Ever wanted a D segment long ass old school sedan as a daily but been putting it off because of its horrendous fuel economy?
Well. While it’s no Maruti Suzuki, this 2003 7th Gen Accord really did surprise me quite a bit in this regard.
Back when I got this as my new daily, I never really cared or still care for fuel economy. But with a bit of curiosity (and necessity as for some reason, the car did not come with an economy gauge), I decided to take 3 days to conduct an experiment on how much I can squeeze out of this 2.4L motor.

Distance:

My office commute is about 16.6 kms one way. 33.2 kms two ways multiplied by three would be about 99.6 kms covered. The tank to tank method was used ofc but I also wanted a way to figure out instantaneous fuel economy so that it will help me optimise the fuel consumption on the go. One way to do this was to get an OBD scanner and directly talk to the car. However, I was not gonna splurge on a new Autel scanner(some models which would almost cost as much as my car’s value) just to measure fuel economy as they are incredibly expensive.

The scanner that surprised me:

Scouring through online products, I came across this thing. It’s an OBD scanner that uses your phone to connect and show you info and since it uses the OBD ELM 327 protocol, there are a host of apps on the AppStore that you can use to connect to it. And it was quite inexpensive at ₹300 ish, so I thought why not. Would double up as a review of accuracy for this thing as well.

K24A4:

The 7th gen Accord came with the K series K24A4 2.4L engine mated to a 5 speed torque converter. Enthusiasts would like you to believe that this is the same legendary K series K24 that’s capable of producing almost 500bhp without any forced induction and is the same thing that’s found on the later Accord’s and Acura’s. However, that couldn’t be more false.
Apart from sharing the same block, there’s very little that’s common between this and the K24Z2 or the K24Z3 that’s found in the 8th gen 2008-2013 Accord. The K24A4 uses an economy trim of VTEC and also produces less power and torque than the 2008 one. While both the engines have the same bore and stroke and hence the same displacement, the K24A4 has a lower compression ratio and is tuned differently hence produces almost 25hp lesser than the 2008 Accord. It also has a lower redline at 6700rpm.
A notable characteristic of the K24A4 is that unlike the Gen8 K24Z’s VTEC that has 3 lobed VTEC only on the intake side, the K24A4 has a staggered VTEC 4 lobed setup with lobed cams on both the intake and the exhaust valves. While this reduces it’s power efficacy, it also significantly decreases the hit on fuel economy when VTEC is engaged and as a bonus(or not, as I personally don’t like it), you get a distinct whine when VTEC crossover happens, something that’s unique and not present in other Honda’s.
The end result is a motor that’s down on power compared to the newer Accord but with significantly higher fuel economy.

Experiment begins:

Started off with a full tank, 3 days of office commute, I ended it at the petrol station with exactly 100.9 kms on the trip meter. The scanner read an average fuel economy of 9.33km/L. The fuel up was around 11.06 liters to the full tank.
Comparing this to the real values, 100.9/11.05 = 9.13kmpl. I was plenty surprised, not just by the car but also how accurate this ₹300 scanner was. Definitely a well worth purchase.
I should add this as a disclaimer, this was tested under rigorous hypermiling conditions with no bumper to bumper traffic and all the commutes on odd hours. With ample steady acceleration and maximum engine braking used with a whole lot of coasting and zero pedal to the floor acceleration. It was also the result of being very calculative when I had to slow down abusing the deceleration fuel cut-off everytime I had to shed speed and I’ve never used the brakes this less in my commute. Needless to say, it was torture for me to drive the car this way, with no flooring it or hitting the rev limiter and with me fighting the urges to open it up and send it or going anywhere as fast as I wanted to. So while I probably will never get this economy figure as a regular number, it was good to know what it’s capable of.

Interesting findings:

This leads me to also mention, while this is an economy trim of the K24, it is also, at the end of the day, a 2.4L engine. Something I’ve noticed is that, this car is incredibly sensitive to how it’s being driven, much more so than any other car I’ve driven. Despite the 9.13kmpl economy, driving it normally(not even fast, just slightly faster than me hypermiling it) results in a steep drop to 7.9kmpl on the scanner. Driving pedal to the metal, I have seen it drop to 6.3kmpl. Never have I seen fuel economy numbers drop that fast with just a slight change(not even a big difference) in driving style.
Something even more interesting is that this car basically makes zero difference if you leave the AC on or turn it off. I have seen cars whose economy increase by even 3-4kmpl with the AC turned on. Not sure if ya something specific to this car or it’s how it is with all Accord but yeah, found that quite interesting. So all things considered, I get around 7.5kmpl in my regular driving around the city.

K24A4, useless for performance. Or is it?

For the enthusiasts out there, I know your thinking and no this motor isn’t completely useless compared to the 2008 8th gen Accord. Well, depends on what you’re looking terms of mods.
Yes it produces less power. Yes it’s the economy trim of Vtec. However, there is a silver lining. With purely bolt on mods, the K24Z on the 8th gen Accord will produce more power as expected.
But if you have enough money to spend, the 7th gen Accord has significantly more potential than the 8th gen. The K24Z on the 8th gen has its exhaust manifold cast on to the head which means no aftermarket headers. It also has a plastic intake manifold so you can’t port and polish or extrude hone it like you can with the aluminium intake manifold on the older K series motors. Not to mention the compression ratio is higher than the older 7th gen so it won’t be as boost friendly. The 7th gen has multiple companies like Hondata offering bespoke and retrofit custom ECUs however there is no such support for the 8th Gen K24Z motors.
Here’s a 702bhp 7th gen Accord made by RaceConcepts in Bangalore reviewed by The Drivers Hub. The aftermarket for the K24Z on the 2008 8th is really weak compared to the civic and the earlier Accord.
So if you’re looking for an old D segment car that you can daily without breaking the bank on fuel costs or if you’re a hardcore enthusiast looking to build the fastest car that eats drag strips for breakfast, consider the 7th gen Accord!
PSA: Just stay away from the V6 of this generation. Not only does it return horrendous fuel economy, it’s also notorious for transmission failures to the point that there was a class action lawsuit filed against Honda back in 2004.
Cheers and happy motoring!

2024.05.10 15:33 boutell New US and Canadian CCS chargers in April 2024

Here are all (*) of the new US and Canadian CCS (Level 3 fast-charging) stations that rolled out in April 2024, according to the Department of Energy. You can get the data yourself here.
These chargers are suitable for most new EVs on the market, except for:
  1. Tesla drivers who haven't bought the official CCS adapter yet. Certain older Teslas need additional work done to accept the adapter.
  2. Leaf owners like me, owners of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, and some owners of older cars that also use CHAdeMO. If you drive such a car, see my matching post in leaf.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.
There were 330 CCS charging stations with a total of 682 chargepoints added or refreshed in April 2024, which is a major uptick in both stations and chargepoints. There were only 166 new CCS charging stations in April 2023, with only 267 chargepoints. Things are trending dramatically upwards.
Some part of this is due to Tesla Magic Dock stations. Previously Tesla didn't report these to the AFDC as CCS, but now they do. And that makes sense because all CCS drivers can use them.
NOTE: most Tesla Superchargers do NOT have magic dock as of this writing (all those shown in this report should have it). I recommend using PlugShare to locate compatible stations for your vehicle.
(*) "What about other Tesla Superchargers? Can't everybody charge with NACS now?"
It's coming for many makes and models, and for newer Ford models as well as a few other manufacturers charging at v3 and v4 Superchargers is already an option with a free adapter from the automakers. GM should release their adapter in the coming weeks. But since they are not open to all CCS vehicles, this report is not the place for them. Tesla's app provides the best guide to their locations, including locations that work with non-Tesla vehicles.
Other Notes
To streamline this post, multi-chargepoint locations are listed with the number of chargepoints first.
For serious trip planning, I recommend PlugShare. But by all means check out these reported new locations and submit reviews on PlugShare, which makes things better for everyone.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or just prefer not to check this list monthly when new openings are rare in your area, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications as soon as they open. You can sign up at evpov.com. Or not! I don't really have a business plan here, I built it to help EV owners like myself. PlugShare has a similar feature.

2024.04.22 04:55 RLDriver01 Home Chargers!

Home Chargers!
There is an entire subreddit dedicated to home chargers! Talk about a way to get started. I launched onto the playing field with little but “which one gets a lot of 5 star reviews from a lot of people?” in my thinking. Now I find there is this: https://www.reddit.com/evcharging/wiki/l2home/?share_id=RdC2jMybvcwTsnbxpIOfH&utm_content=1&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1 So they mention that my Autel is pretty new. It has worked great for me. Some come with built-in cord holders, represented by a flare shape at the front of the box. Look for that if it appeals to you. Mine actually does that a bit but my plug and outlet get in the way, so I made a holder. I may improve that with some curved wood as time goes on. My Autel was meant to be hard wired but I wanted to share a plug with my welder, so I borrowed wire from inside my wall to make it a plug-in version. Hence the gray wire leading to the plug. Many people on my EV6 site on Facebook like the Emporia charger (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09ZNN3JB7/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_apa_gl_i_F72M6NN3YVYWKKJ3P518?linkCode=ml1&tag=technicallyje-20&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0BMQABHbXH6QWzK90QtQv0DfZ2LFJo4ZC8GLZKvocwSo4vPcwG5IDQzHk7YckLIw_aem_AS4UKdPEGvROp7RHjxhuwwHFuD6LwzeVodXw1RmKVCDZ0Aq4khGdeq0J1RdgQ5PvIyo) and I see it has that shape of a box for the unit.

The dreaded knock sensor code with a twist.
2008 Limited 4L V6 So I've been having a P0333 code coming up intermittently for the last little while. It started after I used sea foam to hopefully give it a bit of a refresh(bad idea apparently)
The twist: it seems fuel level dependant?
This one has me a little stumped and wondering if it's really the knock sensowiring or something I did.
With the needle at or above 1/2 a tank, the DTC is activated on startup and will clear itself after roughly an hour of driving time. Not always consistently an hour, but often between 45min and 1.5hrs.
The instant the needle goes below the 1/2, the code clears and it will not come back on. I spent 2 weeks below 1/2 a tank with no code. Filled it up to between 1/2 and 3/4 and there it was again.
Anyone ever seen this before?

Need advice on wheels & tires for 2020 Limited (Method MR707 & TOYO Open Country A/T III)
I'm looking to replace the OEM tires and factory 20inch Limited wheels. Stock suspension. I want to make sure I get the spec right before placing any orders.
TireRack.com is suggesting the following: 17x8.5 w/ 00mm offset and 265/70/r17's
Any concerns with this spec? Should I stay at the recommended 265 or can I go wider without rubbing on the stock suspension? Thanks in advance!!!

2024.03.27 17:45 Sudden_Opposite9759 Drones

Another question for the group. I have been researching the use of drones by the Coast Guard and Auxiliary as part of patrol, search and rescue and other activities. I am specifically interested in the Short Range UAS type drones and through my research I found the below from CHDIRAUX. It appears that the use of personal drones by Auxiliarists is prohibited [#3 below]. As this was dated March 2022, I am wondering if anyone knows if there has been an update to the below guidance? I have searched for anything more current and unable to locate anything.
My Flotilla Commander was not aware of anything more current, but this is an area he does not necessarily keep up with. It looks like the only opportunity to pursue the Short-Range Unmanned Aircraft System Remote Pilot (AUXUAS-SRRP) designation is through working with gold side SR-UAS units. As I'm in Colorado, doubtful any of these units exist in my area to be of benefit. Once I have my membership number, I will be able to access the CG-7114 portal page that may have the answer to my question already. I am an FAA licensed drone pilot and own an Autel brand search and rescue type drone. It would be great if the drone could be moved into "facility" status at some point in the future.
I know there has been ongoing concerns about DJI manufactured drones for cybersecurity reasons and I believe DJI equipment is not allowed to be used at the Federal Government level currently and even a pending bill in Congress to outlaw DJI drones completely [DJI drones are used extensively in the USA in both public [non-federal] and private sectors, so not sure how that would go over]. There are of course several other drone manufacturers not related to DJI, but China based none-the-less. In the short-range drone category there are very few exclusively "made in USA" manufacturers, so hopefully this will get sorted out. My previous organization [Civil Air Patrol] uses drones extensively and it looked like the Coast Guard had been moving in that direction. Any update from someone with current information would be appreciated.

07 MAR 2022
FM: CHDIRAUX
TO: ALAUX
ALAUX 010/22
Subj: UPDATE TO PROHIBITION OF UNMANNED AERIAL SYSTEMS (UAS)
  1. This is a follow-up to ALAUX 011/16 which prohibited Auxiliarists from operating UAS in the
performance of any authorized Auxiliary activity under any circumstance, including prohibition from
operating UAS for testing or prototyping purposes.
  1. The Office Of Aviation Forces’ (CG-711) Unmanned Aircraft Systems Division (CG-7114) has
established a Short-Range Unmanned Aircraft Systems (SR-UAS) Flight Operations Standard
Operating Procedures (SOP). This SOP designates that Auxiliary members are authorized to qualify as
a Short-Range Unmanned Aircraft System Remote Pilot (AUXUAS-SRRP) or Short-Range Unmanned
Aircraft System Visual Observer (AUXUAS-SRIP).
  1. Use of personal UAS by Auxiliarists in the performance of any authorized Auxiliary activity under
any circumstance, is prohibited.
  1. The current UAS program expansion is halted until further notice while CG-7114 works through
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policy changes related to UAS cyber security concerns, and
the only current opportunities that may be available for Auxiliary members, are those co-located or
closely located to a Designated SR-UAS Unit and purely based on unit needs. A map of current SR-
UAS units can be found at: UAS Map.
  1. Auxiliary members interested in more information on the UAS program should work with their
Chain of Leadership and Management (COLM) to their DIRAUX office to obtain more information
from the CG-7114 Portal Page.
  1. Auxiliarists that are interested in pursuing qualification as a Remote Pilot (AUXUAS-SRRP) or
Visual Observer (AUXUAS-SRIP), after reviewing the information on the CG-7114 Portal page,
should work with their COLM to contact SR-UAS units directly.
  1. If approved, all UAS pilots must maintain Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 license
and coordinate unit-level training with CG-7114 or a designated UAS Flight Examiner or Instructor
Pilot.
  1. Internet release is authorized.

DJI Mini 4 Pro Review:

I felt compelled to share my personal experience with this remarkable drone that I've been using for some time. It has quickly become a vital tool in my arsenal, allowing me to capture breathtaking views from above like never before.
First off, the ease of use is astonishing. As someone who was initially a novice in drone piloting, I was amazed at how intuitive and straightforward it was to maneuver. The lightweight editing app, with its one-tap feature, is a game-changer for me. It enables me to swiftly edit and upload my videos, which is great when I'm on the move. The added templates transform my footage, giving it a professional sheen that's simply mesmerizing.
A key aspect that stands out is the drone's advanced technology for avoiding obstacles. It's been a godsend! I've piloted it in various settings, and it consistently navigates around obstacles with ease. This allows me to concentrate on capturing the perfect shot without fretting over potential mishaps.
The battery life is another aspect that's left me thoroughly impressed. With up to 34 minutes of flight time on a single charge, it's remarkably convenient. There's this vivid memory of reaching a mountain summit and having the drone film the expansive view leisurely. It's like having a tireless, personal aerial photographer at my disposal!
And let's not forget about the image quality – it's simply astounding. The 4K resolution at 60 fps, coupled with HDR capabilities, brings my footage to life. Whether it's majestic landscapes or dynamic action scenes, the clarity and color vibrancy in each frame are exceptional.

# 2 Autel EVO Nano Plus: Your Perfect Aerial Companion

Autel Robotics EVO Nano Review:

I recently made the decision to invest in a higher-end drone after experimenting with a couple of budget models around the $600 mark. My choice, the Autel Evo 2 Pro 6K, has been a game-changer, especially for my aerial photography work in real estate. I did extensive research before settling on the Pro version, comparing it with other notable drones like the Evo 2 8K, DJI Mavic Air 2, DJI Mavic 2 Pro, and DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0. The deciding factor was the lighting conditions in the Pacific Northwest, where I predominantly shoot. The 1" CMOS Sensor in the Autel Evo 2 Pro 6K handles these conditions beautifully.
What I love about this drone is the adjustable gimbal sensitivity. With previous drones, small adjustments often resulted in jerky, unprofessional footage. Setting the gimbal sensitivity to 20% on the Autel Evo 2 Pro has given me smooth, slow movements, which is perfect for my needs. The Dual Stability mode is another fantastic feature, ensuring both the camera and the drone remain stable for smooth imaging. I've produced videos with this drone that demonstrate its capabilities, even without using the Dual Stability mode.
I've only begun to explore the app's features, but the Dynamic Tracking and Smart Orbit have been impressive. The Smart Orbit needs a clear point of reference, which is something to keep in mind. The drone's Collision Avoidance feature, supported by its multiple sensors, is remarkable, though it's worth noting that it doesn't work in Ludicrous mode and can't detect thin obstacles like wires.
The battery life is exceptional – three batteries, each lasting up to 40 minutes. Charging time is also reasonable, taking about 1 hour and 45 minutes for a nearly depleted battery.
Additionally, I invested in the Lifthor Mjølnir tablet mount for the Evo II from Madison Area Drone Services, which enhanced my experience significantly, especially since I prefer using a larger screen.
The drone's controller is well-designed, and I haven't experienced any issues with accidental button presses, though I understand this might be a concern for former DJI users.
Overall, the Autel Robotics Evo 2 Pro 6K is an outstanding drone, justifying its price with its performance and features. It's also robustly protected by a high-quality hard case.
An interesting update: I flew the Autel Evo 2 Pro at night and was amazed by its performance. The navigation and landing lights functioned intuitively, enhancing the night flight experience. The 6K camera with the 1" CMOS Sensor worked flawlessly in low light, capturing stunning images of city lights and stars, showcasing the sensor's capabilities in challenging lighting conditions.

Key Features

  • Compact and lightweight for easy transport.
  • Superior camera quality for detailed aerial photography.
  • Advanced flight modes for creative filming.
  • Long battery life for extended flying sessions.

Pros

  • Portable and easy to handle.
  • High-resolution camera captures stunning imagery.
  • Intuitive controls suitable for beginners and pros.
  • Extended flight time compared to similar models.

Cons

  • Might miss some advanced features found in larger, more expensive drones.
  • Limited payload capacity due to its size.

Conclusion

The Autel EVO Nano Plus strikes an excellent balance between portability and functionality. Its high-resolution camera and user-friendly features make it a top choice for anyone passionate about aerial photography, from casual flyers to professional cinematographers.

# 3 DJI Mini 3: Lightweight Flight, Heavyweight Features

DJI Mini 3 Review:

I've had an incredible experience with my drone, something I never anticipated since I wasn't originally into drones. The journey began when I needed aerial shots of my property for a real estate listing. After being quoted $150 just for pictures, I thought, why not buy a drone and learn to fly it myself? My first attempt was with an $80 no-name drone, which turned out to be a disappointment—it couldn’t handle the wind and had connectivity issues, so I returned it.
That's when I decided to invest in quality, opting for the DJI Mini 3, which cost about 10 times more but proved to be worth every penny. The difference was night and day. The pictures are stunning, and it's incredibly user-friendly. Although having a practice run with the cheaper drone did help in hindsight.
However, there are a few things I hope DJI improves in future versions. Firstly, a zoom-out feature for the camera would be great. While I understand I can fly the drone further or higher, I was hesitant to do so on my first flight. Secondly, the ability to take pictures while recording video, similar to some smartphones, would be a fantastic addition. Lastly, the charging setup could be better. The drone comes with a booster pack that charges three batteries, but only one at a time, and it requires a USB cord without a plug. For the price, I expected a more convenient charging solution, like a direct plug-in that can charge all batteries simultaneously.
A few tips for new users: definitely watch a couple of YouTube tutorials before starting. Don’t expect to fly it right out of the box. The batteries need a full charge to activate (probably overnight), and there’s some setup involved—creating an account, registering, and installing firmware updates. Expect around an hour for setup and 6-8 hours for the first charge of the batteries and remote. Just a heads up that you won’t be able to fly it immediately after unboxing.

Key Features

  • Ultra-lightweight design for maximum portability.
  • Advanced camera system for professional-quality photos and videos.
  • Improved flight stability and duration.
  • User-friendly interface, suitable for all skill levels.

Pros

  • Extremely portable, perfect for travel photography.
  • High-resolution camera for capturing stunning aerial shots.
  • Long-lasting battery life for extended flight sessions.
  • Intuitive controls, ideal for both beginners and experienced users.

Cons

  • May lack some of the more advanced features of DJI's larger drones.
  • Flight range could be limited compared to more expensive models.

Conclusion

The DJI Mini 3 offers an impressive blend of portability, image quality, and user-friendliness. It's an excellent choice for drone enthusiasts who want to capture professional-grade photos and videos without the bulk of larger drones.

# 4 DJI Mini 2 SE: Compact and Cost-Effective Aerial Mastery

DJI Mini 2 SE Review:

I wholeheartedly agree that DJI offers an excellent range of drones, suitable for various budgets and skill levels. Before making my purchase, I thoroughly researched and found DJI consistently topping the recommendation lists. As a beginner, my biggest challenge was choosing the right model without risking a significant investment. I didn't want my first drone experience to be losing a >$1K drone. So, I opted for a middle ground in terms of cost and performance, choosing a DJI model that wasn't the latest but still offered great value. The Model 4, while superior, was more than double the price of the Model 2 I settled on.
I'm delighted to report that my choice, the DJI Mini 2 SE, is excellent for adult beginners. It may not have the advanced collision avoidance or 4K camera of the latest model, but it excels in basic setup, flight control, and its camera performance is more than satisfactory. It's a fantastic drone, and I'm pleased with my decision to go with DJI. The setup is relatively straightforward, and it's quite easy to learn to fly.
An important aspect I learned during my research is the FAA registration requirement for drones over 250 grams, and that some drones need flight approval each time they're used. If you're considering a drone over this weight limit, be mindful of these regulations. For instance, needing a cell signal for flight authorization can be a significant limitation in remote areas. Fortunately, the DJI Mini 2 SE doesn't fall into these categories.
However, the kit lacks a charger plug adapter and a mini SD type memory card, which I find quite surprising for a package that's otherwise comprehensive. It's a bit of a letdown that DJI doesn't include these essentials, even in their >$1K packages. An 18 Watt plug is necessary, and while many of us might already have one, it would be more convenient if DJI included it in the kit. Similarly, a high-quality SD card enhances the image and video quality significantly. The absence of these two components, which wouldn't significantly increase the overall cost, is a minor oversight in an otherwise excellent product.
Another point to note is the formatting of the SD card, which should be done in the drone itself—a detail not clearly mentioned in DJI's instructions. A quick YouTube search can guide you through this simple process.
In conclusion, while I have some suggestions for improvement, the DJI Mini 2 SE is a fantastic drone from a market leader. It's of high quality, easy to fly, and compatible with parts from other models. It offers basic flight capabilities comparable to more expensive DJI models, albeit with lower camera resolution and fewer advanced features. But for its price, it's an outstanding choice. I would recommend the Mini 4 if budget isn't a concern, as it is superior. However, for a first drone, the Mini 2 is an excellent choice, and I'm very satisfied with it. It's likely I'll upgrade in a few years, but for now, this drone perfectly meets my needs, and I'd recommend it or choose it again under similar circumstances.

Key Features

  • Lightweight and highly portable design.
  • Quality camera for clear aerial photography and videography.
  • Extended flight time for longer adventures.
  • Simple controls, perfect for beginners.

Pros

  • Very affordable, great for those new to drone flying.
  • Compact size makes it ideal for travel.
  • Decent camera quality for the price.
  • Easy to use for beginners.

Cons

  • Lacks some advanced features of higher-end DJI models.
  • Camera and flight performance may not meet professional standards.

Conclusion

The DJI Mini 2 SE is a fantastic entry-level drone, offering the essentials of aerial photography at an attractive price point. It's an ideal choice for beginners or those on a budget who still want the quality and reliability of a DJI product.

# 5 Ryze Tech Tello: Big Fun in a Small Package

Ryze Tech Tellong Review:

I had been eyeing drones for a while but was deterred by the high prices of premium models and the poor reviews of cheaper ones. After finding several articles that recommended this particular model as the best budget-friendly option for beginners, I decided to give it a try. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by its performance, especially considering the price.
  • Flight Time: The drone offers about 10 to 15 minutes of flight time, which actually feels quite sufficient. If you need more, just get an extra battery and swap it out. The battery recharges in around an hour and 15 minutes using a microUSB cable, which isn't included.
  • Setup: The setup is straightforward. You download the app, and it connects to your phone via WiFi. It took me about 3 minutes. A quick tip for Android users: when connecting to the drone's WiFi, wait for the phone to indicate that it's connected but there's no internet, then choose to stay connected. This is more of an Android quirk than a drone issue.
  • Flying: Flying this drone is quite intuitive. I've flown it both indoors and outdoors, and it handles well, even in breezy conditions. It reaches heights of around 30 feet and has a substantial range, even over the distance of a baseball field. The drone is stable and hovers effectively. It does require a decent amount of ambient light for its bottom sensors to stabilize it, so it's not suitable for dusk or night flying.
  • Picture/Video: For a 5MP camera on a drone, the picture quality is quite good. The live video feed on the phone has minimal lag, but the saved video can be choppy. The camera is fixed, facing forward, so don't expect to get angled or bird's-eye-view shots.
  • Durability: As a beginner, I quickly realized why durability is important - you're going to crash a lot. I've hit walls, trees, and the ground, but the drone just stops, and you can easily start it up again. It's very durable and comes with spare propellers, though I haven't needed them yet.
In summary, this drone is a fantastic entry point into the world of drones. It's well-built, performs impressively for its price range, and is a lot of fun. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking to start with drones without breaking the bank.

Key Features

  • Extremely lightweight and portable.
  • User-friendly interface, perfect for beginners.
  • Basic camera for simple aerial shots.
  • Programmable with Scratch for educational purposes.

Pros

  • Highly affordable, making it accessible for beginners.
  • Easy to control, ideal for learning basic drone piloting.
  • Educational aspect with programming capability.
  • Compact size, excellent for indoor flying.

Cons

  • Camera and flight capabilities are basic.
  • Lacks the advanced features of more expensive drones.

Conclusion

The Ryze Tech Tello is a fantastic entry-level drone, offering a fun and educational flying experience at a very accessible price point. It's perfect for first-time pilots and those interested in the basics of drone technology.

2024.03.18 17:39 ELI5orWikiMe Normal for SOA Customer Advocacy or AITAH?

I think this is likely to draw different opinions. I am intrigued to know if people have been seeing a change in SOA customer advocacy responsiveness lately.
Basically, I have not received any response (call, email, or otherwise) from SOA following an email at the beginning of February. I've reached out and left voicemails 5 times since my specific request for help. I had a dealer misdiagnose my vehicle (details below) to deny warranty coverage. Although I disagreed with their initial diagnosis, I spent money replacing what they claimed was a bad battery. When I first talked to SOA, the assigned person mentioned the ability of SOA to do a goodwill coverage if the dealer was incorrect and did not make good on everything. On a second visit, the dealer technician agreed that the initial diagnosis was wrong and has ordered parts under warranty (backordered...). But I have not been able to reach my SOA contact since then. I have to say, I've been pretty disappointed by this whole experience from dealer to corporate.
So, to start, I understand that batteries are wear and tear items. But I also think it's fair to say that I should at least get a response from SOA that they're either willing or unwilling to assist.
---
Long background
About two-three months ago, my parking brake light started coming on intermittently while the car was in motion. My car ('13 Outback) has an extended warranty for a defective parking brake actuator. I thought this would be a warranty review, so I took it in to my local dealer (Penske owned). The technician denied it was warranty covered and claimed it was due to a bad battery. [On the dealership's own battery tester, the battery was fine (12.51V, 555 CCA. Reserve OK as captured on video)]. This meant that I was charged a $200 diagnostic fee because the dealer claimed it wasn't warranty covered.
The technician mentioned C0281, which is a code tied directly to the EPB actuator that is precisely the part identified in the MY2010-2014 EPB issue for the drum brake style EPB. The PB(diag) procedure for C0281 cannot catch the intermittent problem because it simply calls for clearing the memory, reading the DTC, and checking if the DTC immediately reappears (of course it would not for an intermittent issue). So instead of the parking brake actuator, I was told I needed: new battery, new brake pads and rotors, new tires, and an alignment.
Although I disagreed, what could I do? I bought a new battery (Costco for 1/3 the price the dealer wanted, so I did not buy it at the dealer) and of course the problem continued. I then used my personal diagnostic scanner (Otofix D1, highly recommend as an Autel product) and saw there were actually two codes that were put into history--C0281 and C0282—indicating a problem other than the explanation the technician provided due to C0281 only. The C0282 PB(diag) procedure specifically requires asking if the consumer has ever used manually released the EPB with the release tool. If the EPB was never manually released, it says to replace the defective parking brake actuator. The technician never ask. Having both the C0281 and C0282 codes combined with the recurring, intermittent issue highlighted that this is not simply a battery issue and that the EPB actuator defect should have been more seriously considered.
I contacted SOA customer advocacy to try and get some help with a detailed write up of what I had found as well as photo evidence from the technician video. My assigned SOA person never reached out to me. After 10 days, I called SOA and got someone else to elevate it for response from my assigned person.
We spoke once, and he said that he (1) could not force a dealer to reevaluate but I could try or take it to another dealer and (2) if the original diagnosis was incorrect, they could see about goodwill for at least the $200 diagnostic charge.
I went back to the dealership with the above info and the technician agreed that the diagnostics pointed to warranty coverage. They put in the order for a new part but said it was on backorder... Concerningly, I've seen someone else on here say they've been waiting for the majority of a year for the same part... 26002AJ05D That said, they would not cover the battery. They just said they'd "make good on it" in future service. [I do all non-warranty and non-alignment work on my vehicles].
I reached out to SOA on 2/6 to see if they'd at least do a partial offset on the cost of the new battery, since it was replaced way before necessary IMO. The car cranks just as fast on the old battery as the new when using my battery tester.
Since then, I've emailed and called to voicemail but I have not received any response. Just pure silence.
Maybe it's just me, but this whole experience has been disappointing. If I didn't have enough layman's knowledge of how this all works, I would have been led into believing that there was no problem while there was still warranty coverage. I wouldn't even be as annoyed if SOA would just come back and say they won't offset even a portion of the new battery cost. But the complete silence from SOA....
And now we'll see how long it takes the dealer to get the part in....

2024.03.08 13:15 BurgeonRosery 08 Chevy TB 4.2

08 Chevy TB 4.2
Currently getting a c0445 code for SAS. Replaced a blown rack and a bad bearing. Trac light still on and doesnt want to accelerate properly from a stop or while turning from stopped.
It reads the angles properly when turning the wheel. Digital input A and B both change from high/low depending on steering input.
There is no way with scan tool to relearn this models sensor.
Racking my brain but the sensor seems to be working the way intended, but not sure why this code is still throwing or why the drivability issues are continuing. Fixed this on my 05 TB, but cannot get it fixed on my 08.

Two questions for the group: 1) I have a 240V NEMA 6-30 outlet. Can I use an adaptor to ‘convert’ it over to a NEMA 14-50? I want to use the Autel with a 14-50 plug. 2) anyone have experience with the Autel - it has great reviews from 4xe owners on Amazon.
Thanks!

I just got my first EV in the midst of a cold snap and I'm having trouble deciding which charger to get.
Overall I like the Grizzl-E. My biggest concern is that it's 40 amp vs 48. Does this really matter?
Otherwise I like ChargePoint because it gets a lot of good reviews here but it's only NEMA 3R. Does this really matter?
Lastly the Autel is NEMA 4 and 48 Amp but people complain about the cord being very inflexible in cold weather. Does this really matter?
Sounds like I've gotta make one trade-off. Which one is the least important?
