2024.05.20 04:03 Judgeharm MoP Remix has completely changed my view on toxicity in WoW

I have had a great time bumming around panda land. I also have spent a lot of time doing scenarios, I really liked them back in the day. I do not like them now.
The group content has been miserable in group finder. (No complaints about normal raids) The amount of toxic aholes that are in random heroics that are furious that random people don't know optimal builds or routes for dungeons and scenarios is bonkers. I have started to amass a little gallery of screenshots of people telling either myself or other to just commit suicide and alike. (I don't know if I can post bc of harassment possibilities?)
The content could not be easier, but the 'gogogo' mentality has people running into massive packs, dying and then leaving. Or a person who dies throws a hissy and tries to hold two people hostage. Or something doesn't go perfect and then a third person gets vote kicked by 2 people who are queued together in a 3 man group.
I always used to think toxicity in retail stemmed from the down-ranking of keys and the opportunity cost of doing certain content. BUT there is no downside in MoP, all content awards the same so there is 0 opportunity cost.
I truly now believe that the wow community in random LFG is just worse than the league community. I do not know what could possibly be done to alleviate it.
Have we been corrupted by the sha of efficiency?

2024.05.20 03:03 grassywater Is it too late to get a good career going?

I’m a bit lost. I have two art degrees, BFA and MFA in Painting. I love making art and thought I’d want to go the teaching route but once I got my MFA I realized I was not interested in that. After grad school I did have my own art studio and even had a solo exhibition. While that was going on I was working in picture frame shops, art galleries, art handling.
I’m not trying to paint a sob story but I want to give proper context.
I was an assistant manager in a commercial art frame shop.
My wife and I had our first kid and I took a paternity leave, and long story short I wasn’t able to go back to my job in corporate art. While I was stuck at home I took an online coding course (32 weeks). I had really high hopes it would lead to a job and then I realized I’m not really that good at it and the market is totally saturated.
I’m now working for a coffee roaster. Running deliveries and roasting, shipping orders. I really like the coffee stuff but I’m just not making enough.
I feel like I really have a lot to offer any company I work with. I’ve applied to countless jobs and written many, many cover letters, but I just don’t hear back from anything. I believe I’m doing something wrong.
So I’m 34, and I kinda feel like I don’t have a real career, just a string of jobs. I’m apprehensive to sink anymore money into Certs or schooling.
Do I still have hope to have a real career in an industry?
I’ve tried all the things that people recommend—networking, messaging on LinkedIn, etc.
I feel like I’m running out of time. Should I seek some kind of professional help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the lengthy post.

2024.05.20 02:33 EugeneNicoNicoNii My phone automatically updates itself to HyperOS and ruined the gallery

So my phone literally just updated itself when I accidentally fell asleep without turning it off even though I made damn sure that I turned Auto update off, and with the update and new layout, I don't even know where to turn off auto system OS update anymore! The battery consumption is shit and ate through my entire battery within an hour
And the worse of all, the system had absolutely ransacked through my gallery, all my favourite images have been unfavorited and I cannot possibly find where they are at anymore with my 50GB of image, many of those images being work related and making them dead important to me
I try to hit favorite for one unrelated image, and it shows up as a new favorite folder, all of the old favorite is gone, and I am pretty sure there are more being lost as the gallery becomes much shorter overall, not to mention how I can't hide gallery anymore, as after I hide one of gallery, it will lead to gallery crashing when I try to click the 3 dots on the top right hand corner, and starts chewing through my battery like crazy, Miui really fucked up great with this one
Anyone have any idea to at least restore the list of my favorite images? This is very important to my work, thanks

With my GT4 on the right.
I wish I could say that I'm lying but I'm not. I am still pleasantly surprised to this day 😆.
And yes, this is an authentic watch. Lightly used. Long story short, the previous owner decided to switch to a Oneplus Watch 2. I suppose he didn't know the worth of this watch 😅.
Been playing with it for nearly a week and I am absolutely in love with it. (I will still keep my Stainless Steel GT4 though.) Seems to be a chinese model since there are a few exclusive apps that you will never find on the international model. Surprisingly the ECG app is present and works, despite not being in a country that supports it. (I don't have the arterial stiffness app though).
Since Standard Mode is HarmonyOS skin 4.0 skin on top of Android 12, there are a few notable features aside from the usual Huawei Health/Fitness features:
The battery does last around 4-5 days in its Standard Mode (HarmonyOS Android).
I'm currently testing the Ultra Battery Saving mode and I am impressed: It is indeed a full GT mode (HarmonyOS LiteOS firmware) tucked in, you can still download and load watchfaces under that mode. (The Huawei Watch 3 Pro version was much more basic and limited and wouldn't allow new watchfaces in it.)
A lot of the same features as standard mode are present. But there are a few noticeable things absent.
Here is what YOU CANNOT DO in Ultra Battery Saving Mode, and some of the differences:
  • WIFI and eSIM(LTE) aren't present, obviously
  • You can't reply to notifications with a keyboard, only with preset replies.
  • The weather provider is different, at least in my case. For this mode, it's Accuweather.
  • You can't use apps downloaded from the AppGallery or apps sideloaded from other sources. You have to switch to Standard mode to access them
  • The skin temperature feature isn't working for some reason. I don't know if it's just me or just in general.
Huawei claims 21 days of battery life and to be frankly honest, so far, it seems honestly likely.
I honestly love this thing, it really looks beautiful and I've had people compliment my wrist with it.
The only gripes I have with it, so far:
  • The absence of a proper calendar app. The GT4 includes one that fully syncs your calendar events in it.
  • Sleep Tracking with it is rather iffy. The sensors seem to be much less sensitive. It usually starts tracking an hour or so, later. The GT4 has never failed to properly pick up my sleep/waking up times and napping times.

2024.05.20 01:12 Black-kage I really hope Oda emphisize in the religional aspect of Celestial Dragons lore

One of the things that bugs me about One Piece is that majority of their villains are just evil and they know that. Unlike Naruto whose majority of rogue gallery was trying to change their world for good.
Final Saga in particular is different. We see that World Goverment named the Shichibukai's clones as "seraphims", the celestial dragons claim to be gods, the Celestial Dragons were pissed at God Valley's people because their island named implies blasfemy alll the christian aesthetic that is around of Kuma and know the faith Giants, bucaneers and Skypeans have on Sun God.
In case of Celestial Dragons it could be different. What if the original 20 indeed shaped One Piece world as we know (placing the crazy amount of water, creating the redline, the calm belts and setting the weird magnetic stuff of the islands) but also what if they set clones in the non-sinked places but didnt have the technology to program them like Seraphim?. Reason of why the World Goverment is the way it is. It would improve greatly the Celestial Dragons because they see humans as mere cattle. And their cartoonish evil would be justified because they are indeed the gods of One Piece world.
But whats about marines. There are hints that marines could split. A good example is the Dragon-Akainu relationship set up as well SWORD. But I think that in order to make that set up work it should be emphisized the divine/religion aspect of Celestial Dragons. Why do some marines stick with Celestial Dragons? Because they fund marines? Marines could funded by tax payers. Keeping the overall WG estructure without Celestial Dragons. So why would they root for Celestial Dragons? The answer could be religion.
We already saw this with Lucci and Greenbull. They root with Celestial Dragons because they believe they are the gods of the world. We saw that low ranked marines said Saturn "holy form" rather than see Saturn devil form as something evil.
In the same way. Joyboy, the sun god Nika was the first pirate in the world. The problem is that majority of pirates seem to be rapists and thieves rather than adventurers.
Imagine being a person in One Piece world and having to choose between slavers who are the gods shaped the world and the a god who was indeed the first criminal in history but advocates the freedom of people.
I know many of things in this posts are theories and assumptions but if Oda really emphisize in the religional aspect of Celestial Dragons lore he could improve them as villains and make hyphotetical marine civil war deeper. He could pull the best antagonists out of the Big Three. Out of the traditional shonen.

2024.05.20 00:45 AutoModerator Weekly Q&A Megathread. Please post any questions about visiting, tourism, living, working, budgeting, housing here!

Hello, welcome to London!

Visiting us? Moving to study or work? Brief layover? Moving to a new part of London? Any small questions about life here, if you're new or been here your whole life, this is the place!
We get a lot of posts asking very similar questions so this post aims to address some of our most Frequently Asked Questions, and give you a place to ask for assistance.
Your first port of call should be

the london wiki

It includes sections on:
What should I see and where are the non-touristy stuff and hidden gems? We've written about the big must-sees here and we highly recommend TfL's Experiences site. We've listed some of our favourite lesser-known stuff here And the cheap/free stuff here
How do I pay for the Tube/bus, and what's an Oyster card? You don't pay cash. You can use a number of contactless payments systems such as your Contactless bankcard (which is widespread in the UK, but maybe not so much elsewhere), Apple Pay, Android Pay, or you can buy an Oyster card and top it up with credit. See here for more.
Where should I live? What's x area like? Have a look here It includes recommended sites to find places to live and rent, and has a section on what particular areas are like.
How do I get from this place to that place? Use Citymapper. Honestly, we're not shills for them; it's just a really good app and is used by most of the locals on this sub.
Is x area safe? Yes. Bad stuff can happen in any large city, but London is generally very safe. There aren't any no-go zones. Even under the shadow of terrorist attacks, most Londoners feel safe. See our safety page here for more.
Where can I watch the baseball/basketball/football/handegg match? A comprehensive guide to all London football matches in all leagues can be found at tlfg.uk. Use Fanzo to find pubs showing a variety of sports and see our list of other places here
How do I get a UK SIM card for my phone? Advice on networks and how to get a SIM card is covered here. It also includes suggestions of cafés and other places where you can get free wifi and do a bit of work.
Is the London Pass worth it? Probably not
Other subs that you may find helpful:
  • /LondonSocialClub - Meeting new people for events, activities and/or pints.
  • /IWantOut & /UKvisa - Check if you need a visa and how to get one if you want to work here.
  • /LegalAdviceUK - Good for all sorts, especially for questions about landlords and contracts.
  • /UKPersonalFinance - Another goldmine of sage advice.
  • /AskUK - Great for general questions about UK life that aren't specific to London.
Tips for posting:
Tell us about you - If you want us to suggest things for you to do then you need to give us a good idea of what you enjoy. Don't just say "I like music", say what type of music. Don't just say you want "somewhere nice to eat", say what type of cuisine you like (or don't like). The more specific you are the better, otherwise you'll just get pointed back to the generic guidebooks, blogs and our wiki.
Tell us your budget - If you're on a budget then tell us what it is and we can bear that in mind when making recommendations. There's no point in us coming up with ideas for things to do and places to eat if they'll clean out your wallet within the first 5 minutes. Saying you want something "cheap" isn't really helpful because what's cheap is entirely subjective.
Tell us where you'll be based - Let us know where you'll be staying so that we can give local recommendations.
Asking about hotels or hostels - We have homes here so know very little about what the hotels are like. Look on review websites such as TripAdvisor. However, if you say "I've been looking at these three hotels. Which do you think is the better location?" then that's the sort of thing we can answer.
Non-touristy stuff - There are no secret corners where we hide the good stuff from outsiders! This is one of the most written about cities in the world, so when we want to go to a museum, or gallery, go window shopping, or whatever, we look at the same sources as tourists (listings sites, blogs, etc - see front page of the wiki).
These weekly posts are scheduled to post each Monday at 00:01. If it's late in the week you may want to wait for a new post to appear. Please send us [ModMail](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2Flondon with any suggested improvements!)

2024.05.19 23:11 Sm0keScr3en [CAN-AB][H] Hundreds of RTX 3060 M's, RTX 3070s, RX 5600 XT's, RX 5700s [W] Paypal

GPUs are all in great shape, fans run quiet, no grinding, rattling, scratching etc. I ship to both Canada or the States, and all pricing at the bottom of the post includes shipping costs to Canada, or the US
Most will come with fresh thermal paste depending on existing condition
Temps are generally pinned around 65°C @ 100% synthetic load with an auto fan curve (+/- 5°C depending on the exact model)
In total, I have the following available:

RTX 3060M 6GB GDDR6

These are laptop RTX 3060 chips fitted onto discrete PCBs. They have active driver support, run extremely cool and quiet, and actually outperform a regular 3060 in some scenarios (the RTX 3060M has 3840 cuda cores, while a regular RTX 3060 has 3584)
They do require some setup to be used properly.

Setup instructions will be included with the GPU and are very basic. If you have surface level knowledge of PCs and PC components you shouldn't face any difficulty in getting these units to work

You must have a motherboard with 4G decoding support for these to work. This is a very common feature found on nearly every single motherboard built after 2017. You will need a CPU with an iGPU or another GPU to enable some settings on your motherboard before installing it.
Additionally, they have a single HDMI port. Unsure of the generation. It displays out of the HDMI slot after all setup steps have been followed (again, you will receive all necessary setup instructions as well as support when you purchase one of these)

3DMark timespy benchmark result with a Ryzen 7 3700X available here

Assorted RTX 3070s

Have quite a few RTX 3070s available as well. Models available:
Gainward Chasing Wind RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6
Colorful BattleAxe RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6
Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6
Gigabyte Aorus Master RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6
As stated previously, all models are in great shape. No fan grinding or rattling, and temps will max out around 65°C - 67°C @ 100% synthetic load on an open air testbed with an auto fan curve. Hundreds available in total, though splitting up the QTY across a few posts

XFX THICC II PRO RX 5600 XT 6GB GDDR6

These are in great condition, same deal as the 3070s, they'll have fresh thermal paste depending on existing condition. Temps max out at 65°C @ 100% synthetic load with an auto fan curve

XFX THICC III & XFX TD RX 5700 XT's

Also in good shape, same deal as the other cards. Fans run quiet and cards run cool. No issues with these units

Asus Dual RX 5700s

Good shape, fans run quiet and cards run cool

Pricing

Pricing is as follows and is 100% firm.

Nvidia hardware

RTX 3060M 6GB GDDR6 + support
130$ USD shipped to Canada or the US
Gainward RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6 - 260$ USD shipped to Canada or the US

Hey Reddit fam!

I've recently embarked on a journey to compare some of the leading kitchen suppliers in the market. Specifically, I delved into Wren Kitchens, Wickes, Howdens, and TKC to see how they stack up against each other.

Why Consider Alternatives to Wickes?

Wickes is a well-known name in the kitchen supply industry, but it's always wise to explore alternatives to ensure you're getting the best quality, price, and service. That's where TKC Kitchens comes into play, recently unveiling a new website that showcases their stunning kitchen designs and seamless installation services.

    • Pricing: More affordable, but you get what you pay for.
    • Customer Service: Mixed reviews, with some reports of delays and issues.
    • Design Options: Decent variety, but not as extensive as others.
  3. Howdens

2024.05.19 21:26 TOP_TIER Competitive Consensus: Sage

Intro

This thread is a discussion series at the tail end of the week for each newly introduced Spotlight card. This gives us nearly a week of hindsight to build a consensus and help inform players if they should open their caches for a given week. Ideally, we are looking for proven results (which can understandably be difficult to achieve in a week) more than theoretical applications to help reach this consensus, so players know what becomes less accessible to them after the Spotlight rotation.

This week's card: Sage

Energy: 3
Power: 0
On Reveal: +2 Power for each different Power among all other cards here.

Background, High-level Strategy, and Use Cases

I have good news and bad news about Sage: the bad news it that her only ability is to provide Power; the good news is that Power wins games of Marvel SNAP.
Sage joins a class of cards at 3-cost that scale to high ceilings with some support, including Bishop, Wolfsbane, and Hit-Monkey. Unlike her peers, Sage reaches great heights without much effort. She has a "natural" ceiling of a whopping 14 Power when you and your opponent's lanes are filled up just right, which is head and shoulders above the other cards in this category.
I'll walk through each example to illustrate the point. Bishop needs to come down on turn 3 and needs 2 cards played to match each 1 card needed to boost Sage, whereas Sage can scale off your turn 1 and 2 plays, and gets better drawn later while Bishop gets worse. Wolfsbane doesn't see competitive play, and only outshines Sage in a scenario where you are filling lanes with a bunch of the same Power, like with Brood, but she doesn't scale at all with your opponent's presence; the unfortunate reality is that Sage is very much the same card, just reborn at a series-5 power level. Lastly Hit-Monkey still holds a meaningful competition with Sage, and as the decklists below will illustrate, the two are often played together. We can somewhat demonstrate that Hit-Monkey has a "ceiling" of 10 Power when no discounts are involved; this is a turn 6 with Mysterio and a 1-cost for support. We can see that Sage compares very favorably to the other scaling 3-costs that act as win conditions in these decks packed with low-cost cards (i.e. Beast and/or Kitty decks).
To re-iterate a concept I briefly mentioned in Valentina's release, the above comparisons can be thought of like a "value over replacement player" statistic. From Wikipedia:
In baseball, value over replacement player (or VORP) is a statistic popularized by Keith Woolner that demonstrates how much a hitter or pitcher contributes to their team in comparison to a replacement-level player who is an average fielder at that position and a below average hitter.
Considering Sage does not bring a unique effect, even if she is the best-in-class for this effect, you must determine how much it's worth to you (in Spotlight keys) to have that extra margin of premium stats over a replacement-level card like Bishop. Depending on the deck -- especially if it's a strategy other than Bounce -- Sage is quite replaceable by a card like Gladiator, who also boasts premium stats with a different set of strengths and weaknesses.
Speaking of weaknesses, you may have dismissed Sage altogether due to this season's villain: Leech. He's a real problem for a card you want to hold in your hand for a late-game On Reveal effect. While I don't have a crystal ball, Leech has been changed three times since April 2023 (from 5/3 On Reveal: Remove all abilities, to a 5/3 with trigger on turn 6, to a 5/3 On Reveal: Remove On Reveals, to the current 4/2 On Reveal: Remove On Reveals) and I would expect him to continue to get changed to where he's less of a metagame-defining card. If/when Leech is no longer a problem for Sage, her value goes way up as a card that can turn around a lane on turn 6.
Another important dimension helping to future-proof this card is her synergy with Ravonna "the new Zabu" Renslayer. Ravonna has seen play in a wide variety of archetypes, including Mr. Negative, Tribunal, Patior, Junk, and those oddball Havok decks. There's even a Ravonna Surfer list below, where Sage is the perfect intersection of two deckbuilding requirements. Playing out this card at a discount further pushes her as an elite rate of stats.
And lastly, on the note of stats, sometimes that's all you need for a card to be great. Since starting this series, the cards I've covered that are "just stats" include Red Hulk, Mockingbird, and Cull Obsidian, which have all had noteworthy competitive performances. Sage might be the next addition to this powerful roster, but I'll leave that question to the discussion below: Is the juice worth the squeeze?

Sample Decklists

  1. Bounce
  2. Falcon-Focused Bounce
  3. All-in Junk
  4. Nova Surfer
  5. Ravonna X/Ball Ravonna Surfer Daredevil Junk
  6. Goose Surfer
  7. Jane Negative
  8. Jane Hammers
  9. Ultron
  10. Mill
  11. Wong+Odin Combo
  12. High Evo
These decklists come from a variety of sources but generally the top 1k of ladder; some are more proven than others.

What's your verdict?

Is Sage worth the key(s) now, or should players wait until a future Spotlight rotation?
Is Sage a sleeper hit waiting to be rid of the metagame menace?

2024.05.19 21:12 Improvement2242 Unsure if it would work

I have been thinking about buying a NAS for some time now. Because my phone and laptop dont have a lot of storage, i was thinking about getting a small two bay NAS so i could access my photos, videos and documents from elsewhere when i am not at home. Sharing them with friends abroad would also be really great. At the moment my Google Drive and Icloud are maxed out and i would prefer it, if i had a "cloud server" that has a similar facial recognition system like Apple photos or the Samsug gallery app on my phone.
Thats why i was looking into a Synology or QNAP two Bay NAS. I already have a old 2TB Seagate Barracuda harddrive i would use at first and once i have some money to spend i would install a second HDD for redundancy so i can also use it as a form of Backup for my data.
Since i would like to stay <200€ i was also checking Ebay for some lightly used NAS solutions.
Are there any things i would have to look out for? As far as i can tell Synology offers exactly what i would need. Also advice on buying used parts on Ebay would be good, since i know pc hardware but have never bought used. (especially storage stuff)
Thanks!

Build Board - Easily organise & prioritise 3D printing projects
TLDR: Built a service to help you easily save, organise and plan your 3D prints. Features include automatic imports of prints from Makerworld (including metadata, colours, tags, etc), adding custom design projects, adding notes, achievement badges, plus tags for priority, categories and multiple printers.
Hey bambulab 👋,
A friend and I spent the last few months working on Build Board, something we’re super excited to share with you!
It’s a kanban board designed specifically for 3D printing, helping you visually plan and manage projects through each stage of your workflow.
If you’re interested in signing up for free early access, check out www.build-board.io. Or, if you’d like a bit more context, more details below.
P.S. Please excuse our super simple/scrappy landing page. We plan to improve it, but as it’s just the two of us and the project is 100% self-funded, we’re focusing all our time/resource on the actual product.
A bit of background Having spent the last year trying a bunch of suggestions from forums/subreddits, or trying to hack together solutions using existing tools, I gained a lot of experience in learning what doesn’t work. While some of the options listed below might work for people who don’t print very often, things become unsustainable as print volume/frequency increase beyond a certain threshold.
Here’s some examples of things that I’ve tried and why they didn’t work.
  • Bookmarks - Often where prints go to die, unless you keep them super organised and immediately clear out links once that print is complete. Also, the more bookmarks you add, the harder it is to actually find specific prints in the future.
  • Folders, folders, folders - Very strict naming conventions plus endless folders and subfolders. Unfortunately this requires a tonne of willpower and schelp work. Considering everyone has their own unique system, this approach doesn’t scale well.
  • Notes App: Like bookmarks, but worse. They’re harder to save, manage and curate, plus easily become overwhelming.
  • Trello/Notion: Not designed for 3D printing in mind. Requires lots of repetitive and frustrating manual work to add prints, images, metadata, tags, etc. Too much friction to sustainably use.
  • STL galleries: Often just online folders with 3D preview thumbnails. Good for inventory management, but not great for organising or planning.
  • Collections/Favourites: While better than other options on this list, the UX usually encourages saving new prints, versus reviewing and printing previously saved ones. Also, when visiting websites that host print files, it’s easy to forget about saved prints and get distracted by new and shiny prints.
Having tried all of the above, I decided to try and design something better, inspired by something Adam Savage said in one of his Tested videos. Specifically, he was explaining that while 3D printing hardware and affordability have improved by an order of magnitude in recent years, there still weren’t many tools to help organise/prioritise prints.
Spurred on by the words of one of my childhood idols, I quickly designed an MVP for Build Board and then got a friend to help build the first few versions.
Current Features * Automatically import prints and metadata from Makerworld, including nozzle size, print time, filament type, colours, tags, etc. Imports from other websites to follow soon! * Create cards from scratch for projects you design yourself. * Easily drag and drop prints between each stage of your 3D printing workflow e.g. ideas, shortlist, print queue, post-processing, etc. * Quickly add notes to each print, tag categories or set a priority. * Archive completed prints to keep your board clutter free, while keeping a copy just in case.
What’s coming soon 🤞 * Auto-import Makerworld collections with one click. * Maker badges/achievements to help keep track of your 3D printing journey and milestones, but with a twist 🏅. * Smart tags/filters to provide contextual suggestions on what to print. For example, about to go to bed and don’t have anything queued for printing? No worries! We’ll automatically tag and suggest prints that will be ready in time for breakfast ☕️🍳. * Group and sort prints across multiple Bambu Lab printers and model types. For example, reserve larger or more complex projects for your X1C or P1S, while assigning smallequicker ones to your A1 or A1 mini. * Better plan prints by being able to see not just the print duration, but also the expected completion time. * Use print analytics to better understand printer usage in terms of number of prints, time spent printing, amount of filament used, etc.
How to get involved * If you’re interested in trying out our early access beta, please sign up at build-board.io. The more people we have on board, the better we can understand what to build or improve next! * Alternatively if you have any questions, feedback or just want to support us, feel free to comment here and tell us what you think.
That’s everything for now. If you’ve made it this far, thank you very much for taking the time to read this and share your thoughts 😊.
Cheers!

2024.05.19 20:03 zammey12 [Spoilers] Dishonored vs. Dishonored 2: My comparison

Hi all, just wanted to write my thoughts comparing Dishonored and Dishonored 2. I won’t be considering the Daud DLCs from D1 or Death of the Outsider for D2, just the base games.
Story: Dishonored 1
This was easy for me, I don’t think the two games are very close in this category. D1 is a simple but effective narrative. Save Emily, clear your name. The late game twist of being betrayed by Havelock and company is also great and feels like a gut punch when it happens. Side characters like Slackjaw and Granny Rags also add to the world building and unlock the special side mission near the end of the game.
Dishonored 2 has a bit more of an ambitious narrative, and I think it falls flat in some ways. The Crown Killer storyline is finished early and underwhelmingly. Delilah is a fine antagonist, but isn’t very personally interesting to me even factoring in her backstory. In fact, none of her gallery of rogues are very interesting IMO, other than maybe Jindosh. Paolo and Liam Bryne are our closest analogs to Slackjaw and Granny Rags, but are much less involved in the story and don’t unlock anything extra for assisting them other than a slightly different ending cutscene.
I also just want to mention “vibes” in this section about the story as I don’t know where else it would fit. Dunwall is a much more interesting setting to me than Karnaca. Dunwall is dark and gritty, filled with disease and dread. Playing as Corvo, sneaking through the streets feels like something out of a Batman comic, which I love.
Karnaca, on the other hand, just doesn’t capture that same feeling. Yes it’s ruled over by a tyrant, similar to Dunwall when Burrows took over, but it doesn’t have that same sense of dread. The levels often happen in daylight rather than darkness, losing that sense of stealth under the cover of night. Lack of enemies like Weepers and Tallboys also takes away from the sense of turmoil that the people of Karnaca are living in. Given all this, the edge for story goes to Dishonored 1.
Gameplay: Dishonored 2
This one is easy. Dishonored 2 takes everything that made the gameplay of the first game amazing and made it better. Emily has new powers that give her enough to feel different enough from Corvo without completely changing the game. And if that doesn’t suit your fancy, you can just play as Corvo again anyways!
The only other thing I want to point out here is the new options for non-lethal takedowns. In D2 you are given the ability to subdue enemies in combat without killing them, something that wasn’t possible in D1. While I don’t think giving the player more options is a bad thing, I feel like taking the non-lethal route should be more work than just killing your enemies. So I am not personally a fan of the combat non-lethal takedowns, but I won’t hold that against the game, giving the edge to Dishonored 2.
Level Design: Dishonored 1
I feel like this might be my most controversial opinion. I already spoke on how I enjoyed the aesthetics and “vibes” of D1 over D2, but I also just feel like from a gameplay standpoint they are more enjoyable as well.
In D2’s favor, the levels in general are more open and have more traversal options due to the powers of two characters. Moving through them feels fluid and impactful when deciding how you want to go from point A to point B.
D1’s levels have more verticality, especially with Kaldwin’s Bridge, Dunwall Tower, and Kingsparrow Island. With only one set of powers, all the levels were designed with just Corvo’s skillset in mind, making for a tighter experience IMO.
In terms of mission types (excluding each game’s tutorials), D1 includes 4 assassination missions, 1 rescue mission, 1 optional assassination, and 2 missions with no assassination targets.
D2 includes 5 assassination missions (1 of which also being a rescue mission), 1 optional assassination mission, and 2 missions with no assassination targets.
While the breakdown of the missions are similar, each mission has some quirks that set them apart from the rest. In D1 we have Lady Boyle’s Last Party, which includes a bit of Hitman-inspired social stealth to the game. The Flooded District has an entire optional section if you completed the Slackjaw and Granny Rags side quests. The final mission radically changes depending on if you are on Low Chaos or High Chaos.
D2 on the other hand, includes levels with super unique mechanics. The Clockwork Mansion is a treat, with its shifting floors and walls, giving you numerous routes to sneak and move through the level. The time traveling mechanic in A Crack in the Slab makes it my favorite mission between both games.
I think what gives D1 the edge here over D2 though, is the reuse of levels for different missions. High Overseer Cambell and House of Pleasure use the same starting point, and opening new areas from the same starting point from one mission to another gives a good sense of progression. Return to the Tower is also a great callback, being able to move through the area freely when it was just a cutscene in the prologue. Bringing back these levels feels like a reward for players to take note of things and remember them to use that knowledge to complete them later. D2 only does this with the prologue and final level, with a much dampened impact to me.
For all of this, I have to give the nod to Dishonored 1.
Art/Graphics: Dishonored 1
So I recognize that Dishonored 2 is just more competently designed than Dishonored 1. From the characters to the environments, they are well designed and realistic.
However, the giant hands and goofy faces of the characters in D1 are another thing that add to the “vibes” that I like so much about that game. Dunwall feels like a comic book, and the characters and world look that way too. The more realistic graphics of D2 lose that charm, even though they are “better” in the traditional sense. This is probably the most subjective category, and the edge goes to Dishonored 1.
Overall: Dishonored 1
I understand that reading through this it may sound more negative towards Dishonored 2 than how I actually feel about the game. The difference between D1 and D2 for me is like the difference between a 10/10 and a 9.5/10. A lot of the gripes about D2 for me mostly come down to the “vibes” that I bring up multiple times in my review. Just playing through D2, I had an amazing time, but by the end of it, I still wanted it to take me to where D1 did, and I just didn’t quite get there. This is by no means an exhaustive review of both games, as there are many more things about each I could get into, but these are just my general thoughts.
The Dishonored series is now one of my favorites ever, here’s to hoping that Dishonored 3 will come sooner rather than later!

2024.05.19 19:39 Kautumn06 Framing store recommendation for a gallery wall

I live in Alexandria and I'm trying to find a local framing store that can help me with designing a gallery wall. I'd like to find a place that can both frame the pictures and help design the layout so that it all fits together. Ideally they could also help with the actual hanging of the pictures since I know if I do it I'll end up with a bunch of holes in my walls and the pictures will be crooked.
While of course I don't want to overpay, this project is important to me so I'm willing to pay more to know it's a good company that will does high quality work. I know Framebridge offers this service but the reviews seem to be very mixed about the quality of their picture frames and design services. If anyone has recommendations for places in the Virginia/DC area, I'd greatly appreciate it!
