2024.05.19 17:05 fearsomefrights High Beams

It was half past nine when my shift at the diner ended. It’s not any place specifically you’d know, though you’d be forgiven for confusing it for a Waffle House given the abundance of cheap, greasy food and drunk clientele. The only thing distinguishing our location was that our doors closed at ten.
It was a cold night in October. The winds felt out of place for the fall season with the sharp way they bit into my skin. Usually, the low temperatures in Grant tended to hover around the mid-fifties. Tonight felt particularly frigid even bundled up in the warm confines of my jacket.
I hurried through the lot outside the diner, passing by several vehicles. When I made it to my car at the far end, I was quick to put the key in the ignition.
My car was a special edition Subaru Legacy. The only thing special about it was that it was only by the grace of God that my radiator and engine were still operational given the car was a little over two decades old.
When you turn the key, the engine would knock. My father said it was indicative of worn-out bearings. Could be an engine getting ready to declare sayonara before it crapped out one final time and departed for car heaven or perhaps car hell given its rough condition.
I knew little about that though; all I knew was that as a poor college student I was having a difficult enough time as is scrambling to make ends meet with a part time job at a diner. Regardless, whatever the solution, the answer involved money. Money I, notably, didn’t have.
The smart thing to do would be to purchase another used car; though in this economy that sort of thing is far easier said than done.
An even harder task than figuring out the financing for a replacement vehicle was getting this stubborn thing to turn. The engine threatened to exhibit life but would stop short of properly starting.
It was about the fifth round when my engine found the energy to fight the good fight on this frigid night. The engine knocked fiercely, reverberating inside the hood for a few seconds before the noise steadied itself.
I sighed in relief and backed out of my parking spot in the back of the lot.
As I left, I couldn’t help but notice something out of the corner of my eye. A man, a very rugged specimen of the male sex adorning a blue baseball cap and a grizzly beard, was approaching my vehicle at a brisk pace. Where I was the only one stationed at the back of the lot, it seemed odd he was coming my way.
I turned my head to acknowledge him. That’s when he began to break out into a full-on run.
My heart raced almost as fast as my car. I slammed the pedal down and sped out of the lot, the tires screeched loudly along the pavement as I veered to a sharp right.

I was lucky the road didn’t carry heavy traffic around this time of night. Where my eyes were focused on him, I was damn near lucky I hadn’t plowed directly into someone.
I sped along the highway and tried to rationalize why this lumberjack looking fellow had charged me. News reports of human trafficking came to mind, but it wasn’t really anything you heard much about in a place as remote as Grant Alabama.
For crying out loud, we physically were so remote one of the miniature cities within Grant was called Bucksnort. We were about as far from the Big Apple, or any real semblance of civilization, one could get.
After a minute of driving, I slowed down, especially when I heard something in the engine rattle. This car wasn’t designed for no races or wild chases. Not with the amount of age it carried.
Besides, I was alone. Safe.
At least that’s what I thought before I heard the blaring of a truck horn. An eighteen-wheeler was coming up behind me. Given I was the only other soul visible on this lonely two lane stretch of highway, it was clear they were honking at me.
I prayed to God and kept moving.
The big rig followed closely. We went down the road for two miles when suddenly my vision was obscured in a bright light.
The trucker was flashing his high beams. I could barely see when he hit me with them. I nearly swerved off the road when he did it.
After a few seconds the mounted flood lights on his vehicle relented and the blinding rays ceased their assault on my eyes.
I moved my car to the right lane to let him pass. He had no intention of doing so. His signal made that clear when he merged behind me.
Drops of rain began to pour from the sky lightly tapping my windshield.
Plop…plop, plop…plop.
My car didn’t handle well with slick roads. Fortunately, I wasn’t too far from home. Maybe another seven miles.
The fiery orange glow flooded the cabin of my car and I yelped.
I fumbled in my purse. One hand on the wheel, one digging desperately for my phone. With my visibility being periodically robbed, I was already a hazard on the road. Might as well risk compounding the issue if it meant I could get in contact with the police.
When the high beams vanished, I managed to pull out my phone and dial 911.

The operator answered after two rings. “911, what’s your emergency?” The man that answered the call sounded bored out of his mind, like he’d rather be anywhere else on a Saturday night.
I didn’t care if he was bored, entertained, playing with himself. As long as he could send someone out that’s all I cared about in the end.
“There’s a maniac tailgating me,” I said.
The operator’s voice clipped. Though from what I could understand of the roboticized sound coming out from his end of the line, I could tell from his tone he remained unenthused. “Ma’am, you’ve called an emergency line.”

“Y-you don’t understand! I was leaving work and this man started chasing me. I-I think he’s trying to hurt me.”
The operator fell silent for a few seconds. For a moment, between the rainy weather and the flaky signal, I thought I’d lost him. His voice reemerged seconds later. “Where are you?”
I rattled off the highway number I was driving on and told him my home address.
“I’ll get an officer dispatched in the area. ETA should be around ten minutes.”
Ten minutes. Six hundred seconds. Toss whatever metric you wanted to use to measure it out, with that big rig riding close behind me and the driver intermittently blinding me when they felt like getting their rocks off, it might as well have spanned an eternity. I was going to be lucky I didn’t crash into a guardrail or land myself in a ditch.
“Make that around fifteen minutes,” the operator clarified, his crackled voice twisting the knife deeper into me with his update.
I made the turn off the two-lane highway. I didn’t signal when I did it. I was hoping the sudden movement would have had my unwanted friend in the big rig blow past me.
“Ma’am?”
For a moment, I believed it worked. No more blinding lights. The only sound was the operator fishing for a response and the pitter patter of rain on my windshield.
My sigh of relief became a choking noise lodged inside my throat as I saw the eighteen-wheeler backing up. It didn’t turn on a dime, but he was moving fast enough.
The road up ahead winded with hairpin curves. I didn’t know how long I’d have until those lights were upon me. Till he was upon me.
The phone clicked and the call abruptly ended.
I cursed under my breath while my engine knocked like an irate person trying to beat down a door. My Subaru was rapidly approaching its limit. I had to think fast.
These were my options: I could risk speeding and hoped the engine would hold out till I made it to the house, or I could continue driving at a steady pace. If the first option proved successful, he might not see where my vehicle would vanish. If it didn’t, my car might leave me stranded. That’s assuming I didn’t wreck myself taking a turn too fast.
The other option would be safer, but I’d be visible to him. Though with some of these curves I feared if he hit me with the high beams again, I’d be at risk of crashing. Where the area of road ascended, one wrong turn would mean a long journey down.
It would mean certain death.
Taking a sharp intake of breath, I pulled out my phone and called my husband. The only answer I got was his voicemail urging me to leave a message at the tone.
“Billy, there’s a lunatic after me. I’ve called the cops. Please…please be ready. I’m only two minutes away.”
It wasn’t the most inspiring call to action. My husband wasn’t Billy Badass. He was more like Billy the Stamp Collector. Benign hobbies. Soft spoken. Wouldn’t hurt a fly.
Still, I was counting on his presence to deter Mr. High Beams behind me. It was a desperate ploy, but it was all I could think of on such short notice.
I made the turn into the dirt trail that led to my driveway. As I was pulling in the porch light flickered to life. Maybe. It might have been those high beams. They illuminated my cab in a flood of light once more obscuring my vision.
The door to the house opened and a figure ran out of the entryway. My husband from what I could discern of the silhouette. Our dog Jasper, a black schnauzer with more bark than bite, darted out the door. I couldn’t see the little guy, but I heard him.
I stopped the car and shoved open the door. I bolted out of the seat, nearly tripping over my own feet with my frantic departure.
Jasper started barking up a storm, even before the big rig came to a standstill.
The door of it opened and the bearded man stepped out of the vehicle.
Strangely, my dog paid the trucker little mind. Jasper’s eyes remained fixated on my Subaru. He began to snarl.
“Get away from the car,” the man bellowed. He pulled out a gun and pointed it at an angle, almost like he was aiming at my vehicle.
Was this how my life was going to end? Shot dead when I was at the finish line, where I was supposed to be safe?
My husband Billy babbled. “S-sir, please. You don’t have to do this.”
The trucker shook his head. As he did, the sound of sirens began to blare in the distance. He didn’t answer us. Instead, he lowered his gun into his holster and stood still as a statue all while my dog continued snarling and barking at our vehicle.
When the police came, guns drawn, he remained calm.
“I’m not the one you want,” he said. “The car. Search the car.”
Even to this day, I still remember in vivid detail what happened. When the police opened the rear driver door, there was a gaunt looking man back there crouched in the floorboard with a knife clenched in his hand. The wide, manic look lingering in his eyes remained far colder than the frigid winds blowing around us.
The trucker explained later that he saw the man inside my vehicle wielding the blade. He must’ve snuck inside before my shift ended. Once the driver realized what was going on, he’d tried to intervene.
Every time the person in the backseat had attempted to overpower me, to harm me, the trucker turned on his high beams. It scared my unknown passenger. The sight of the light made him hide.
The police hadn’t offered much in the way of details concerning who my stowaway was; given the six inches worth of blade he held, not much imagination was needed to map out what the strange man planned to do to me.
I learned on that cold, lonely October night to never judge a situation wholly by appearances. I was grateful to that truck driver. If it weren’t for his persistence, I would probably not be alive today to share my story.

2024.05.19 14:59 indiedarling227 Any idea when the 2025 wilderness edition will be revealed?

I owned a 2019 Limited, and fell in love with the wilderness trim on the crosstrek. I haven’t gotten it yet, but was wondering if at this stage it’s worth waiting for the 2025 version?
Since the 2024 got revealed in April of last year I was hoping we’d have some news on the next one, but so far Subaru has only shown the next forester.
I’m not expecting big changes BUT I am wondering what colors we’ll get for 2025 😅

Streams:
General Notes:
  • Watame is working to get some more Ancient Debris before its time to face the Ender Dragon. She got enough to make her chest plate Netherite. (She now has her boots and chestplate Netherite)
  • Pekora during her news stream today notes that while it would be nice to make the Ender Dragon fight more challenging, due to the number of potential bugs that could occur if things were manipulated, they decided to just leave thing as is and make it a winning run.
  • Kaela and Iroha met up. Kaela gives Iroha a Smithing template that was from the Jungle Template, which is something that she had wanted to decorate her Netherite Armor with. Iroha says that Kaela is strong, but Kaela just says that she's lucky. Kaela tells Iroha that she has 4 different kinds of trims that could be used. After some talking, Iroha ends up actually using the trims that were found from the ship. Kaela then explains how to make them.
    • LOL Kaela is reminding her viewers that no, they are not buying their friends with these items, and to go get some help.
  • Kaela went into the nether fortress and she got a wither skeleton head. She says its for research purposes (to see if banner can be made). She also jokingly remarked on making a Wither at the Ender Dragon fight.
  • Aqua and Iroha are busy gathering materials for the Ender Dragon fight. Specifically cobblestone to help make a platform for when they reach The End
  • Tons of items have been prepared. Theres lots of beds, food, pumpkin heads (about 2 per person), buckets of milk, buckets of water, potions, stones, etc.
  • Pekora saw Aqua's gift and message, and see was trying not to cry when she read it.
  • Pekora now reduce her price of totems and golden apples to 100 diamonds from 200.
  • Kiara went to Raden's house which is a snow house described as a Tofu. Since she was afk (Ao was there and described the house), Kiara decided for fun to pour water on her. However the water destroyed the snow floor that was in her house. She apologized for this.
  • Ao-kun went and bought the totem and 5 golden apples from Pekora.
  • Kaela decide to go to a woodland mansion. She was able to find one with help of a woodlands map she found. The trip to there took 5 minutes. She went on her own on a solo trip and got a smithing template on her first chest. She got some totems and joked that she will sell them for 50 diamonds.
    • During her exploration, a bunch of the strong pillagers and vexes came after Kaela. Fortunately she had a totem on her and it was used as she tried to survive. Fortunately she got 2 more on her in case something happens. It was a close call there. More explorations and she now has a 4 totems. (she got 5 with 1 being used up).
    • Kaela on her way back advertised that she was selling the totems on the minecraft chat. Anya offered and was willing to give 44 diamonds. Pekora seeing the messages came to Kaela to also barter. Anya and Kiara came by to Pekora and Kaela to negotiate with them.
    • Pekora notes that selling Totems at that cheap of a price (44 diamonds) are illegal, but Anya says not to listen since its part of the totem black market. Kiara also offered to get a totem since part of Anya's diamonds came from Kiara. Anya got 1 totem.
    • Watame came by to Kaela's and offered to buy two of Kaela's totems for 100 diamonds, but Kaela say that it's too cheap. Aqua came by to watch. Polka as a ghost is also watching this fold out. Kaela turned it to an auction for the totems. Anya advertised it in the Minecraft chat. In the end, Watame got 1 totem for 69 diamonds.
    • Kanade then came to buy a totem from Kaela. She originally offered 32 but Kaela said it wasn't enough, so Kanade gave one stack (64) and that was enough for a totem. Kiara came and told Kanade that she made a good deal compared to buying from Pekora.
Travelling to the Stronghold Notes:
  • Its now time to travel to the stronghold! Everyone is gathered by the spawnpoint to prepare to head out.
  • Aqua will lead the way, she throws the first eye and they head off. Pekora will be observing things from above as a spectator.
  • During their travels, they went to the ice biome. On the way they came across a polar bear and its cub. Due to that, the polar bear aggroed Aqua and started chasing it, to prevent the polar bear from hurting the group, they shot the polar bear. Anya, allegedly killed the final blow.
  • Raden got lost! SHe got lost in the middle of the Taiga forest. The group help to get her back, Koyori provide coordiantes while Ao goes to pick her up. The group is stationed at a broken Nether Portal. They went and found Raden and brought her back to the group
  • A Drowned with a Trident showed up! They killed it and no trident was procured.
  • They suspect that the Stronghold is under the water so the group proceed to make doors and dig down to find it. Eventually Kaela finds it. Everyone eventually heads down to the stronghold to look for the portal.
  • The portal is found. It had no eyes in it, so Aqua and Pekora went to place the eyes. Pekora gives a rundown of what will happen. First the people are to make a path before they go and fight. Good luck!
Fighting the Ender Dragon (and 2 Withers) Notes:
  • Kanade, Miko, Aqua, and Kaela first go in to make a safe path to the ender dragon. Once the path is safe, the rest go in and start the fight!
  • At the start, 2 additional withers get summoned along with the Ender Dragon. The group start with the Withers before proceeding with the Ender Dragon
  • Kaela goes to the middle to make a beacon out of iron, but it was difficult so she gave up
  • Raden died in the middle of the fight, it was due to an enderman.
  • Ao-kun dealt the final hit of the Ender Dragon.
Final Ending Notes:
  • Pekora is now the last boss! She is proceeding to kill everyone! Luna was the first to die, but it wont be easy.
  • Everyone is now proceeding to go after Pekora.
  • Ririka died during that due to an Enderman
  • Pekora was finally defeated by Noel.
  • Everyone now heading through the portal back to the spawnpoint. And then Pekora just teleports everyone home.
  • Lamy logged in at the end to also join the group for a picture.
  • Kaela went and made a beacon at the area, it makes you run faster.
  • Many of the girls are now writing their final entries in their diaries.
  • Pekora prepares a spot to take pictures, with the Dragon Egg in front and the beacon behind. Aqua is also placing the heads of everyone who participated, even if it was just for one day.
  • Otsukaresamenanorades!!
  • At the end, everyone killing everyone!
  • Pekora brought them back to lack, and now more killing and dying has commence. (Theres too many kills to keep track and with people being brought back to life, its very chaotic).
  • lol Miko and Kaela and Miko asked if Kaela could kill her, and so she did. And then more people asked to be killed by Kaela, which she then proceeded to do (Ririka, and Watame, and Kanada)
  • Miko and Watame play a game of Janken. Miko wins.
  • Kaela, Polka, and Pekora have a battle against each other. In the end, the winner is Kaela. As she types her final message, she gets disconnected from the server.

2024.05.17 20:43 swtogirl [New Updates] The Epic Saga of 2 Brothers and a Truck

I am not the OP. That is u/No_Chrysler-4-Me. Originally posted on EntitledPeople and pettyrevenge.

There are two previous BORUs I posted last year:
First Post Jan 8, 2023
Second Post Jan 8, 2023

Trigger Warning: Domestic Violence

Editor's Note: THIS IS VERY LONG! OP posts a lot about his family. I will include links to other posts at the bottom of this BORU, but I will keep this post focused on the brother and OP.

TL;DR of the above BORUs: OP's older brother is lazy and a cheapskate. OP bought a truck, an '03 Toyota Tundra. Brother gets jealous and buys a 01 Dodge Ram 1500, but it's crap. OP tries to help brother fix up the truck despite warning him not to buy it. Once it was running a little better, brother challenges OP to a race. Brother loses and becomes obsessed with practicing racing, ruining the truck further. Eventually they go camping, have more shenanigans, brother finally blows the transmission. Brother has to drive his ex-girlfriend's minivan, which he hates, tries to LS Swap the Ram, but no one will lend him the money. He eventually sells it. Brother doesn't stop there. He NEEDS a truck, so he has the brilliant idea of chopping the minivan up to make it into a truck. He needs money to Frankenstein the minivan, no one will pay, but eventually he cuts it up, uses recycled wood to make the truck bed, etc. He calls it the "Mini-Ram."

My brother sold the Mini-Ram and got a Silverado. That was fine. It's what happened after that made things worse May 5, 2024

I've been gone for some time. But I'm back with a bad one. I've spoken before about how my older brother competed with me needlessly. And he did a lot of beyond stupid shit. Well he finally pushed the whole family over the edge, and got disowned. And I'm going to be explaining a lot of what happened the past year, and then some from before that. But it's too long for one post.
Well going back more than a year. Some may remember my brother getting a free minivan from his ex after the Dodge Ram truck I warned him not to buy became a moneypit. I helped him work on that truck and even repaint it. And I helped him remodel his camper trailer too. Why? Because he's my brother. And I guess some part of me deep down kept hoping he'd one day change. But he tried to take credit for things I did. Especially with remodeling the camper. And he had tantrums when called out on his lies. He also became temporarily obsessed with my truck, and even implied he'd just take it from me because he hated driving a minivan. He referred to it as a chick car. He acted like a complete child because I refused to trade vehicles, and even got our parents involved. It was just a really stupid and needless situation that my brother tried to make a hill to die on.
It started when my brother bought his Dodge Ram simply because I bought a Toyota Tundra. He had a perfectly running Subaru Baja before that. Then he said he wanted a man's truck and bought the worst barely running pile he could find that was also overpriced considering the condition. He could have at least aimed for a diesel since he wanted a dodge so bad. Lots of dumb shit happened after that. Including my brother wanting to LS swap the Ram after destroying it's engine and two transmissions. But I'm pretty sure the person who offered to do the LS swap for him was a scammer. Not to mention LS swapping any vehicle basically means replacing the ECU. But it never happened anyway since the engine and transmission my brother wanted sold before he could get them. And he had no running vehicle anymore. So my brother's ex, whom he has a young child with, gave him her old 90s Ford Windstar van. It was admittedly an ugly, dent riddled POS with the rear window busted out. But it still ran and drove surprisingly well, considering that's not one of Ford's better vehicles. And then my brother decided to cut it up into some sort of van/truck. Or a ute as they're called in some places. But he made this thing ugly. Lots of spray foam, recycled wood, and rattle can paint. Even mismatched sub-lights above the cab. He frequently raided the junkyard for parts. And he even glued a Ram badge onto the grill of that van/truck. He called it the Mini-Ram. Lots of stupid cheap mods done to that vehicle too. Someone once asked me how ugly the Mini-Ram was on a scale of 1 to 1000. And I said about a 667.
My brother did a lot of other dumb things in this time. Like following me camping just to piss me off. He was a general leech who stole power from my generator, and tried to steal beer from my camper fridge repeatedly. He was so brazen as to just walk right in, and then tried to pretend to be so drunk he didn't realize what he was doing when caught. I've spoken many times about how he stole booze from me. Until my friends and I revenge pranked him and his near equally douchey friends with a growler full of laxative tainted beer. We admittedly used way too much laxative. But my brother never stole from me again because I threatened to tell everyone about his humiliation. He crapped on his own shoes squatting in the woods. And that's just a bit of it.
Eventually my brother seemed to learn his lesson. He sold the Mini-Ram to someone who actually paid him well for it. And no, I don't know what they did with it. And I don't care. But, when the 2K he sold the Mini-Ram for was combined with his savings, my brother had a bit over 4.5K to buy a better vehicle with. And he spotted a 99 RWD Silverado truck with an extended cab for sale online. He really shouldn't have sold his only method of transportation before having a replacement vehicle ready. But I couldn't fault him for taking the deal when presented, considering what he sold. And as much as my brother annoyed me, I still cared about him enough to help. He showed up begging me to drive him over 60 miles to look at this truck he found on Market Place.
So I reluctantly drove him out to see this truck. It wasn't that bad actually. Save for the rough mismatched paint, the rusty hood, the dents, the cracked windshield, and.... Actually, I guess it was kinda that bad. But not compared to the clapped out Ram my brother bought previously. The Silverado had a manual transmission, which we both confirmed shifted great as the records showed it had been rebuilt a few years before. The engine had been swapped at one time too. So it was kinda hard to gauge the odometer as it had not been rolled back for the new engine. It was at about 350.000 miles, but those numbers don't really mean jack when the engine and tranny have been replaced or rebuilt. Admittedly the engine ran like a top. The tires on the truck were in pretty damn good shape too. And on steel rims. Which I like. Very practical. I asked my brother if this was the manly kind of truck he'd been looking for. And for once he spoke logically and said that he'd rather have this than risk what happened with the Ram again. Fair enough. Besides, Chevy trucks are cool and reliable. I've always liked them. Like a rock as they say.
My brother and I scrutinized this truck in detail like a pair of pawn brokers, and talked the price down to 3K. They wanted 4K. But we could hear a sound while test driving it that was either bad ball joints or wheel bearings. We jacked up the wheels, and the bearings felt and sounded fine. But the ball joints were pretty bad. And that's not a cheap fix unless you can do it yourself. The truck was owned by the seller's father, who'd passed away a year prior. So the guy took 3K for it after we listed the problems. After driving it back, I insisted my brother get the truck to a mechanic ASAP. And he listened that time. The mechanic said the ball joints were about to come apart, and it's have caused a very bad situation if they had. And it cost him a grand to get them replaced. The truck also needed new plates ant the title registered. Which ate up a lot of the remaining budget. Then came the paint. My brother wanted the Silverado painted black right away. I told him to wait. But he didn't listen and DIY'd some body work, and then rattle-canned it with Rustolium turbo cans. The paint was full of orange peel, and overspray. He didn't even use primer. And the truck looked kinda mediocre. Then the southern weather had at it. Already numerous chips, scrapes and fades. Whatever. I stopped caring.
You'd think that'd be the end of this part. But no. There's more. What's behind door number 3? If you guessed a dumbass with a knife stuck in his ass. Then you'd win the gold! Yeah that's right. My brother got a knife in his ass.... How? How else... He and his friends all got high and decided they were gonna go outside and build a fort in the back yard of the house they rent out of scrap they found laying around. My brother while stoned wanted to show off how he can flip out a butterfly knife really fast, and decided he was gonna act like he was in an action movie, and did some sort of stupid thing where he was running and flipping out the knife really fast. The ground was wet, he slipped, and somehow got the knife in his right butt-cheek. They called me to come take him to the hospital because they were all too stoned to drive. I had to lay my brother down in the bed of my truck on a mattress because we were too scared to pull the knife out, and I drove him to the hospital like that. They rushed him in, and thankfully he only needed about 5 stiches on his butt and some antibiotics. Then I drove him back home the same way, and he insisted I take him to a drive through. He also tried to get me to pay, because...reasons! I told him to buy his own damn food.
After that there was more dumb BS that I won't bother getting into. But eventually my brother was seemingly getting bett...er...less bad. He was a bit sore his Silverado wasn't a 4X4, and my Tundra is. But being RWD kept him from trying to take it off-roading. He did try once, and had to pull the truck out of mud with a come-along. And he didn't try it again. He did want to drag race my truck again too. I said hell no. Not gonna risk either of our piles breaking down. And he was a complete douche about that too. I told him to stop acting like his dick was bigger than it is, and act his age. He didn't take that well. But he seemingly really was improving. Even being a much better dad to his daughter. Things got pretty good for him. Until I decided to buy a house. That's when the serious drama started.

My entitled brother threw a massive fit, just because he was mad I bought a house May 6, 2024

Yeah, I'm aware of several similar stories involving entitled family members wanting houses they have no claim to. But I guess this shit really happens. And it's no picnic when it does.
I suddenly became a homeowner some time ago because friend of mine's grandfather was moving to Florida. And his house was ripe for picking. I knew the old man well. RIP, he passed a few months later from a sudden stroke. Anyway, he offered the house and property to me for 200K. I practically ran to the bank to apply for the loan. The house is a manufactured home from the 80s. But it was remodeled repeatedly by the former owner, and has a separate garage building. The home and property could have gone for more. But he offered the house to me because he knew I'd take care of it. I had 30K saved that made a good down payment. And I was happy to leave my apartment. I'd wanted to eventually move out of there after what my cheating ex did anyway. But that's a story for another time.
As for my brother. Well he went bonkers when he found out I bought a house. He had this repeated history of copycatting me for the past decade. But this... There was no way in hell he could copycat buying a house with his terrible credit and inconsistent income. And he got in an argument with me over how I was just trying to make him look bad by doing something he couldn't. No, I just wanted a damn house. And the price was too good to refuse. Then he told me I should have turned it down because...(He had no good reason) I could practically see his screws getting looser with every dumbass excuse he made as to why I shouldn't have done it. But I pointed out all those excuses were just because I did something he currently can't. And when I bought the house, it had nothing to do with him. I just wanted to be a home owner for the security and extra space. I finally don't have to store my camper at my parents' house. And I have a garage that I can store stuff and tinker in.
I bought a camping cot, he bought a camping cot, went to the gym, he went to the gym, bought good booze, he bought good booze (Or stole it from me), I bought a new TV, be bought a new TV, I bought a truck, he bought a truck, I bought a camper, he bought a camper, I bought a used portable DVD player, he bought a used portable DVD player, I went camping in a specific place, he went camping in that specific place, I bought a house, he...(404 Error! Insert tea kettle noises and Benny Hill chase). He also acted like a complete child toward me when he built his Mini-Ram thing. He actually confronted me and said it was keweler than my boring Tundra, because it was something original. I swear, he did the dumbest mods to that vehicle. Like putting twist studs in the suspension coils to raise the ride height.
Well after weeks of openly fuming about me being a home owner, my brother suddenly acted like he had another brilliant idea. He wanted to move in with me. I laughed at him. Then he ended up demanding I rent one of my rooms to him. And for only $200 a month (Utilities included) because he shouldn't have to pay any more than that since we're family. He flipped his lid when I said fuck no! Then he got our parents involved again. Only this time they actually sided with him at first. Though it was mainly our mother. She and my brother showed up demanding I let my brother move in. And my brother had a shit eating grin on his face that I could tell he was thinking he was getting his way thanks to mommy dearest. I said "FUCK NO!" to both their faces, and my mother cried that I was using foul language to her and being an ass when I had the space now. I called my dad, and he told my mom that he'd warned her I wouldn't do it. And to leave me the hell alone. Mom whined my brother was living out of his camper next to a shabby house he was renting space from. I said that wasn't my problem to fix. And my brother has proven countless times that he cannot be trusted. My brother was fuming to the point of being red with veins popping out. My mom tried one more time to convince me with tears. And that just made me angrier.
I went on a rant that was something like this. Bro can't buy a house, so he wanted to invade mine. I refuse to ever live with my brother again. I would sooner live in the woods without electricity than with him. He's intentionally irritating as all hell. And if I had him as a roommate, I just knew he'd steal my booze, take my stuff, and invade my privacy none-stop. Not. Fucking. HAPPENING! No matter how many tears mom tries using on me. My mom broke down and finally conceded she'd never convince me after that rant. And she had to take my brother by the hand and leave with him because he initially refused to go, and kept begging her to turn back and make me let him move in. And then I yelled to him that it was a laugh that he called me a mama's boy before. Because he'd become exactly that. And this was just like the time he tried to get our mother to make me trade vehicles with him because he felt ashamed to be driving a minivan. He yanked away from mom, then told me to go fuck myself and the horse I rode in on. I laughed and pointed out I didn't ride in on anything, because I was already home. But his rattlecan horse was waiting for him in the driveway. He flipped his lid again, and looked like his head was going to explode. But mom got in front of him, and told him to just go. Then he drove off in his rattlecan Silverado without her. He'd driven her there. And then I had to take her home.
While taking her home, I made things very clear with my mother over why I could never trust my brother again. And his life was not my burden to bear. And then told her how little my brother was offering for rent anyway. Which he'd conveniently not told her. Then I later rented that same room to one of my best friends for $600 a month, and he pays for utilities. The other two rooms are my bedroom and a home office. There's an extra room in the separate garage too. So my mother tried to make me let my brother live in the garage instead. There's enough room in it's storage room for a bedroom. Again I said fuck no. And that's since been turned into another friend's rented room with a bit of a plywood remodel. Yeah, I kinda rented both the spare bedroom and garage room out to friends out of spite. But I wasn't letting my brother live with me in any capacity!
My brother later ended up having a complete meltdown in front of our parents over how he's the older brother. He should be the one who owns a house first. He's supposed to be successful, and I'm supposed to be the big loser in his shadow. Our dad poked him with his cane and told him that's not how life works, and they had a big argument. They told him to get out and not come back until he's cooled off and learned that he's just being a pointlessly jealous asshole.
The next part I post, my brother did the dumbest thing of all.
Edit: I came home late to over 600 comments, and still more pouring in. Far too many for me to answer. So I'll clear some things up here. Yes, I am no contact with my brother. And he's NC with the rest of the family as well. I do have cameras inside and outside my home. And a dash cam too. My brother knows this, and has stayed the fuck away since he left town. I'm told I'm an asshole too. Not arguing that, because it's true. I'm not exactly the nicest guy. But have someone like my brother in your life, and see how peachy you turn out.
Some have mentioned to having siblings just like my brother. Sadly I know very well people like him are increasingly common these days. My dad said a number of times that my brother probably would have ended up dead in an alley if he lived here 50 years ago with the way he behaves. As for our ages. I'm 30, and my brother is 32. I have not given my parents a spare key to my house. One is with a friend, and another is very cleverly hidden.
My house is a manufactured home. But it's not in a trailer park, and has been significantly modified with new siding and a new roof, and has a separate garage building. The previous owner was a former general contractor, and he loved to build and repair. And yes, I do have good insurance.
I keep seeing comments about a clock radio. Pardon me for not getting the reference. But I do own a digital alarm clock that has a built in CD player. Currently plays Tina Turner's Proud Mary to wake me up.
My brother and I were raised pretty evenly. He was always a jerk. But went full asshole after moving out. But our mother didn't favor him. She chewed him out plenty. And she didn't normally side with his stupidity. She just wanted him to live in a better place than in a camper next to a house filled with potheads. Addition: My brother willingly moved into that camper. He was renting half a room in that house of potheads. Then convinced the landlord to let him live in his camper on the property for the same price instead. And he bragged about his camper a lot. Which he has a full gaming center in, complete with PlayStation. He only wanted to invade my house to piss me off and make his cost of living even lower. He also doesn't like camping nearly as much as me. He mainly liked just pissing me off by following me. He loved to make me miserable. In fact, he felt entitled to make me miserable. That's the kind of person he is.
Do I have a restraining order against my brother? Not really. Just didn't bother. Because even if I did, it'd only be for like a year. And my brother wouldn't let something like that stop him if he was truly determined anyway.

My entitled brother lost his mind and attacked me, his ex, and our father. That got him disowned by the family. But not before I beat the crap out of him May 8, 2024

Warning: Contains domestic violence, small town drama, and idiocy. Read at own risk.
My brother's major downhill spiral started with jealousy over my house, but only got worse thanks to this next part. He started smoking pot more heavily and drinking harder. And that was making him more aggressive and violent. He got in a brawl outside of a bar for reasons I still don't know. But he got his ass handed to him on a platter. He eventually found out his ex has been seeing someone else. And ironically that someone is another friend of mine. Which was news to me. But it's not like he wasn't around my brother's ex a fair bit. They're both fairly social people, and were also friends for years. Once the secret was out, he confessed to me it wasn't planned. But my brother's ex Sara (Fake name) and my friend just clicked one day about a year ago. This sorta thing can only happen in a town like ours. I admit, Sara is very beautiful. But I've always seen her as a big sister figure ever since she started dating my brother in high school. So I never thought of getting with her myself. She kept her new boyfriend a secret for some time. I didn't even know until someone else spilled the beans. And the word traveled. When my brother found out, that was the last he could mentally take.
My brother was hoping for years that Sara would take him back. But no such luck there. When he lost his mind over the fact my friend was dating Sara, he started hunting for the poor guy. My friend is not a fighter, and a self described beanpole. So that's what I'll call him. Sara seems to like Beanpole because he's everything my brother is not. He isn't really a brave person. And came to me when he found out my brother was looking for him. He has a rather distinctively painted car. So it's easy to spot. My brother caught wind Beanpole was at my place, and came roaring his truck down the street.
When my brother showed up to my house, he started screaming and banging on my door because he wanted to kick Beanpole's ass. And when I refused to let him in, he attacked me. We had a redneck brawl right there in my front lawn. I want to say I won. But the fight only stopped when one of my friend/tenants yelled he was gonna call the cops. I sucker-punched my brother while he was distracted, and told him to never come back to my house again. And if he ever tried to hurt Beanpole again, I'd make sure he'd up in the hospital with two broken legs. This was backed by the other friends/tenants I had there. My brother is an idiot. But even he knew that pissing off my entire friend group was not a good idea. So he picked himself up off the ground and started leaving. But he clearly looked like he wanted to do something to my truck because he stopped and just stood there staring at it with his hands in his pockets, like he was debating scratching the paint with his keys. I yelled at him that I have CCTV. But then he turned around, pulled his pants part way down, and started rubbing his ass directly onto my truck's passenger side door. Then he forced out a nasty fart and said he sharted a little, and laughed like a nutbar when he took off. I immediately got the hose. I'm just glad I didn't leave windows open or doors unlocked. Otherwise he'd have done far worse. And the smell of what he did was pretty much what you'd think.
Everyone already knew Sara was never going to take him back. She avoided dating for years because my brother is so unhinged that she knew he'd do something like this. That's why she and her new boyfriend kept it secret. I went to ice my bruises and call Sara. But my brother was already calling and texting her. Over and over again, he wouldn't stop. He was begging she break up with her boyfriend and take him back. He even said he wanted to marry her and move to the northwest. Not sure why he specified that part of the US. Maybe because we live in the southeast. But she flatly told him no, never again, not happening even if hell froze over. He cried that it wasn't fair, because she was his first love (she wasn't), and they have a daughter together. Then he started sending her flowers, love letters and gifts. She sent them all back. Then she announced online that she and Beanpole had been dating for some time, and recently made plans to eventually move in together. That's when my brother really went off the deep end.
A few hours after he saw that post, my brother got wasted and then barged into Sara's parents' house by body ramming the back door. He actually cut his face because the door had a glass window. But he was so drunk that he didn't notice he was bleeding. Sara understandably freaked out, and my brother grabbed and tried to force her to kiss him. She pushed him away and he hit her for refusing him. He slapped her and threw her to the floor really hard like an angry pimp wanting his money. And his daughter saw it all and started screaming at the top of her lungs. Sara screamed too, and my brother fled. Police were called, and Sara was taken to the hospital. My brother threw her down so hard that she had a dislocated shoulder. My brother was found by police at his camper, where he was even more drunk than before, and half his face was covered in blood. He had to be taken to the hospital, where he got stitches. Then taken to jail. He got charged with trespassing, breaking and entering, and assault. (Surprisingly not DUI too, as he'd actually walked there) When our parents and I found out, well the family finally couldn't take it anymore, and went into an uproar. Our parents had it out with my brother after he bailed himself out from jail, and then he tried to fight our dad when they argued. And no surprise, he tried to blame everything on me.
My brother actually said I let Beanpole steal his woman. But couldn't really explain how. He also refused to believe I did not know until recently. Then he said that Sara was supposed to be his. Dad not only disagreed, but told my brother that he was a fucking disgrace, and that was an absolutely disgusting way to talk about Sara. She's not his property. And then my brother shoved dad as hard as he could. Dad got knocked to the floor, and my brother started kicking him. Dad isn't a small man. But he's old with a bad back and a bad knee. And needs a cane just to get around. Since we knew my brother would only have gotten crazier if he saw me, I was hiding in another room with the door cracked and listening in. I knew he might do something crazy. So I insisted on secretly being in the house when he was confronted. And I'm glad I was, because I came to dad's defense before my brother could do too much damage. I knew we were roughly even in a fight. So I ambushed and hit him in the back with a rubber mallet, and then beat the shit out of him. No police were called that time. I attacked him in defense of our dad. So he probably would have been screwed if he tried to get me charged anyway. And then he'd have gone right back to jail. Someone also once asked me if I enjoyed beating up my brother that day. I did not. I was just in an adrenaline fueled rage protecting my dad. But all things considered, I could have done far worse to my brother with that rubber mallet, as he only really got bruises. My dad gave hm a good smack in the face with his cane too though. But it's just hollow aluminum. Not exactly a damage dealer.
Our parents (mainly my dad) disowned my brother as I threw him out the door. And he spent some time crying on the porch and saying he was sorry and didn't mean it, then switched to saying we could all regret this, and we could go fuck ourselves before finally leaving. My mother spent hours crying. She'd stuck up for him before, and this was how he repaid her. My brother managed to avoid real prison time, or a trial for attacking Sara by taking a guilty plea deal. He signed away custody of his daughter. And Sara got a restraining order against him. My brother got a fine, somehow only a couple months in county jail, probation, has to abstain from alcohol for six months, and he had to pay for the property damage. Sara's dad already put in a new door, and billed my brother for it. My brother also understandably lost his job due to the situation.
Our mother secretly kept in contact with my brother, and agreed to look after my brother's truck and camper while he was serving his two month sentence. And she didn't ok it with dad first. He was pretty pissed at her for going behind his back. But she reasoned that it would be the last thing they ever did for him, because she didn't want my brother to have no place to go after getting out of the clink. And even she made it clear it was the last of her good will towards him too. Once my brother got out of jail, mom drove his truck and camper to a store to meet him, and gave him back the keys. She told me there was barely a word of thanks from him. Mostly just grunts when she tried to get him to talk to her. Dad said he still looked like an ungrateful sod. After that my brother lived wherever he could park his camper for a while until one of his remaining friends somehow got him a new job as a welder in another town 40-ish miles away that he was having to commute to with his camper for a while. But he was back every weekend. Apparently he only got the job by agreeing to work for less than what the job would normally pay. So he could move there permanently as soon as he got the ok from his probation officer. Which said officer didn't make easy I heard. I don't know the red tape of it. But he managed to pull it off. He can't leave the state. But he could still move to another county it seems. He's probably renting a space in a trailer park right now or something. And maybe he's back to doing his side hustle of hauling trash for people.
Before leaving town, my brother showed up outside my house to give me the double middle finger and dance around like a monkey while cursing at me in the street when he knew I was watching from the window. I guess it was his stupid way of trying to get in a last laugh without breaking the law or something. But then I got an idea. I've heard plenty of people say to kill with kindness. So I tried it in my own way. I grabbed an unopened bottle of my favorite honey whisky from the pantry because I know my brother really loves that stuff too. Then I went outside and walked right up to him, and shoved the bottle into his hands. I think it was the last thing he expected me to do in the moment. And I know he'd NEVER willingly break a bottle of good booze. Especially when it's free. Then I told him to have a drink on me to start his new life. I could barely keep myself from laughing when I turned to walk away. When I looked at my CCTV footage later, he actually stood there looking really glum while just staring at the bottle, and then moped back to his truck.
And then he was gone. Off to start his new life as a career welder. My brother is a childish, narcissistic, misogynistic, asshole to an extreme degree. But he's actually damn good at welding. Both with steel and aluminum. Mostly self-taught too. It's practically his only real talent. He's even done basic forging and auto body work. I've seen him do shit with scrap metal I wish I could. But that's the only real compliment I can still say about him. Maybe he'll make a decent new life and career for himself doing metal work elsewhere. He's better off away from us, just like we're better off away from him. He deleted all his social media, and I assume blocked us on everything. Not that we'd bother to contact him. One of his few remaining pothead friends in town told me my brother wants to legally change his name when his probation ends. Knowing him, he'll likely do it.
Things are much more peaceful and far less dramatic without my entitled leech of a brother here. Some part of me missed him for a while. But he's just a terrible person. And the only one who's still missing him, is our mother. She's still kinda broken up about it. But dad has been unwavering that they did the right thing by disowning him. He made his own bed. Now he's lying in it. I doubt my brother will come back any time soon. And if he does, he will not be welcome.
Edit: Got home and cracked open a bag of salt & pepper pork rinds, and was half expecting hundreds of comments like last time. I'm thankful it wasn't. Still, I'm also thankful to everyone who gave their support. To answer some questions I got in comments and DMS. I've got cameras inside and outside my house. Beanpole and Sara are still dating. But they've put off moving in together for now. My niece is doing good. But says she has no daddy anymore. My brother was barely a father to her anyway. Yes I know it was a bit much giving a known alcoholic a bottle of booze. And good booze at that. But I knew he wouldn't be able to drink it for months anyway. Which is why I was trying so hard to hold back laughter when I gave it to him. Besides, he's just gonna drink like a fish on his own dime when his court ordered sober time runs out.
I'm hoping this is the last post about current antics involving my brother. Maybe I'll tell other past stories about him. Or the story of my cheating ex. Still couldn't bring myself to post that. I typed it out and everything. But I guess it still ate at me because I really liked that woman. And yeah, this situation with my brother eats at me too. But he's toxic. And I'm better off without him in my life anymore.

2024.05.17 01:16 No_Trust_7220 [discussion] Natsuki Subaru makes me want to become the better version of myself

Hello everyone, this would be my first official post on this subreddit, and I want to use it to explain how Natsuki Subaru changed me for the better. When I was in middle school things have change so much to me that I couldn't catch up with everyone around me whether grades, friends, or family I felt as I was stuck in a dark loop where I didn't know if I could move on with my life. Things went harder for me when I was in High School when covid had started appearing all over the news and had everything shutdown and we were forced to stay at home and hope this will go over soon. But soon turn to weeks and months and even a year that it made me feel a deeper hole than I could ever be. I didn't know if I even have hope left in me. But that is where he comes into place when I saw trailers for S2 of Re:zero. At first, I wasn't interested with it since I saw Subaru as a good-looking character that is just there to garners some clicks until I saw Mothers Basement Review of Re:zero. And it made me interested in watching it. When I first saw Subaru in action, he was weird, funny, and a bit embarrassing with his character but I know that he means well whenever he wants to save someone. Subaru made me realize more about myself especially when his character was talking to me, whenever he struggles and wants to do with every being of his power to save the people around them because he loves them which not many main characters are transparent with their emotions and wants. I understand with his love, his failure, and his dream where he just wants to be loved with the people he cares about. But above else what truly made me feel as I was a part of him is the dreaded episode where he was begging for Rem to take his hand and take the slothful way out and run from his problems, when she refused claiming that this is not what Subaru would do his mask shattered and we get to witness the ugly truth that has been hidden for so long. His self-hatred had poured liked molten lava as he swore up and down how despicable person he is, how he always makes excuses so that he doesn't have to do his best, and how disgusted that nothing about his existence has changed. When I saw that scene, it made me reflect on my self-hatred and how it feels to be in Subaru position, for a moment I truly felt how hopeless I was, but Natsuki Subaru realized that he cannot stop, he realizes he put too much effort with what he did, and he cannot abandon the people he cares about. But what truly hammers Natsuki Subaru as the greatest character in my eyes is during S2 when he was fighting Garfiel and quote "Whenever you think I want do it! I want to change! Thats where your starting line is". That quote had lit a desire in me that I didn't have in a very long time, fast forward to a couple of years and I am in a much better position than I ever been I graduate high school and doing well in college, granted not every day are great but whenever I feel cornered, I always think what Natsuki Subaru would do, and the answer is always clear, to win for another day. I hope you were all able to finish it to the end and see the gratitude for Subaru and the inspiration he gave me and how I will cheer for him to win his happy ending.

2024.05.16 04:43 dubbhae Day 4 of Hololive's Hardcore Minecraft Server: Things are heating up after yesterday's events as the Nether Gate will now be opened!

See Previous Day 3 Here
See Following Day 5 Here
Yesterday had some fun interactions and gambling with Chinchiro, BUT it also had plot, murder, framing, and an intense court session ala Ace Attorney. Today however the main idea will be to take the girls into the Nether. More deaths are predicted to occur now that the stakes have risen. Best of luck!
We're posting now, due to Aqua streaming at JP lunchtime, but later at primetime JST we'll get some new folks joining like Kiara, Lui, Suisei and Aki! There's also a trial planned for Ririka who died yesterday late into the night. (Fauna also said she'll be joining but that wont be until the early mornings of Day 5)

2024.05.15 20:03 JJinDol 미국 부자들이 타는 차 브랜드들

These Are the Top 10 Cars That Wealthy Americans Drive — and Why They Might Not Be What You’d Expect (yahoo.com)
돈 문제가 전혀 없는 미국 상위 부자들 (정말 부자들이어서 한달에 메르세데스 E클을 한대씩 살수 있는 사람들)이 타는 차 브랜드 순위가 다음과 같습니다.
  1. Toyota.
  2. Honda.
  3. Ford.
  4. Lexus.
  5. Subaru.
  6. BMW.
  7. Acura.
  8. Hyundai.
  9. Lincoln.
  10. Buick.

Schnell schrottreif?

Platz 9: Ford Grand C-Max 2.0 TDCi Titanium

Platz 7: VW Golf 1.4 TSI Comfortline

Platz 4: BMW 218i Active Tourer

Platz 3: Audi Q3 2.0 TDI quattro

Platz 1: Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost

2024.05.13 06:21 -The-Master-Baiter- Excerpt from chapter 4 of my novel

From an anonymous notebook:
They do not look well upon us keeping written accounts of the goings on in their ranks, it is not a matter of distrust, of course, for all members are trusted absolutely, even myself for all that I am quite new. Though no one will search for this tome, and it will near certainly never be found, I still wish to hide my name in case of the most unlikely of chance should come to pass. I have seen what they do to those they see as having betrayed them.
A person who they see as having betrayed them is considered to be weak of heart and they are destroyed. And no I do not mean killed, though perhaps that may be a better fate. No, instead he or she is seized by a group of them and taken away to a secret place, the location of which I do not know, though I have my suspicions. They will be gone for a day and then they will return without so much as a single mark upon their bodies or visible damage of any kind. But I would far prefer a broken arm to sharing their fates, I tell you. You see it is not their bodies which are broken, but their minds. All who experience this fate, have a dull and vacant appearance as if they were asleep with their eyes open. It is like why were once shining diamonds, but returned tarnished and lacking shine of any kind.
Such people they have taken to calling serfs, an archaic term used to describe a laborer bound under a feudal lord, though I am told that the “scientific term” though science may be the wrong word, is “splintered.” And yes there is a reason for this, and I shall explain it later on. Suffice it to say that for my own sake, I will keep my name, along with all actions specific enough to incriminate me, outside of this tome and as you can well see, I have my reasons.
Now that I have explained myself, I should imagine that you, my nonexistent reader, have queries. Perhaps the largest of which is “Who are “they?””
This is a subject which is surprisingly difficult to answer, so I suppose I shall start with the most simple part of it all: their name. They, like most organizations of great size and influence, have many names, but are mostly known by one, The Coven.
And now that I have told you that, I admit I struggle even to put into writing where I should continue. Their scale perhaps? As far as my knowledge on the subject extends, The Coven is a vast and silent spider with its legs spread across all continents and its web ensnaring a great many people.
I am still unsure of many things about it myself as I have not been a member as long as most. What I do not know is perhaps more important that what I do, and I have stayed awake long nights in my bunk and simply questioned. Perhaps is was those long hours of thought alone in my bunk which compelled me to begin this journal. But in any case, I do not know their purpose, or who leads them, or aside from certain surface-level criteria, why they choose certain people to become members.
And yes, people are chosen to join, rather than joining themselves. There have actually ben. a few cases of people joining on purpose, though every such case still had its own measure of accidentalism. The Coven is and always has been silent and secret and so people simple cannot apply and join on their own. In my own imagination The Coven has some hidden criteria or switches out there in the world and when a person reaches that criteria or hits that switch he or she is watched and evaluated to see if he or she could become a member.

By simple deductive reasoning, I have thought of some of the more simple methods my potential trackers would use to decide if one is a worthy Coven member. Obviously, such a person could not have close family or friends who would notice him missing, and would need to be of a certain mind, though I do not know exactly what traits the Coven desires. And of course there is the question of how to integrate a person into the coven. You see, I theorize that it is quite a difficult process. In order to integrate, a person must be able to explain his disappearance to all those he knows, for all but hermits and homeless men know someone. And to suddenly disappear also seems like it requires a degree of intelligence, confidence and ability to lie. Of course, such resources as a car, money, connections, ect. would be valued as well.
But perhaps I ramble, and perhaps I write this journal too much like the essays I am used to. This journal is mine and so I will write what I want. So, for the sake of catharsis I think I shall write about my integration.
And if anyone ever does read this and thinks to object, note that my particular integration was not notable enough that my identity could be pieced together through the details I reveal. And, furthermore, I shall keep things vague.
As for myself, I was, though I pity using the word, something of scholar, (a common trait among the coven.) I too was a teacher and though well received by my peers and students, I never had much interest in the social side. I attempted to walk the path of the relationship, so to speak, but I always found myself bored and off track. Of course, I am human and I suppose I did enjoy the sexual aspect, but the relationship always dried up, like a plant which did not receive enough water. And so I would always end up living by myself, devoting myself to research in various fields of interest.
Looking back, I believe my devotion to this research was likely a large reason for my failure as a partner and a friend, though the roots of the issue, as in most, likely ran deeper. In any case, at one point in my wandering career of research I found myself searching for conspiracies, connections, and odd coincidences in the larger world of firms, politics, and men in business suits. And though I truthfully expected the endeavor to be yet another distracting and largely meaningless rabbit hole, I did discover one conspiracy that I found particularly interesting.
I shall be vague, but the gist of the conspiracy was that of an utterly bizarre meeting and joint effort of two large companies, which I shall simply call company A, and company B. Of course, it is not unusual for two companies to work together on some business endeavor or another, but it was that nature of the endeavor, and more importantly, the relationship between the companies which made the meeting into a conspiracy.
You may envision company A and company B’s relationship as your run-of-the-mill Macy’s and Gimble’s scenario. Each produced similar products and were run by similar sorts of people, but they were fiercely competitive to the point that they had been known to defame each other’s products in advertisements. It reached the point that the world as a whole made fun it. For example, you might see a picture of two heavily muscles arms in a strained arm wrestle, one with the label of company A and the other, Company B. It is possible, that even now, my nonexistent reader, you picture the two companies in your mind, though there are many such companies out there.
Based on this information, I hope you can Imagine my shock, not to mention my interest upon learning that the two companies had pooled resources, and co-bought an enormous city building. The entire affair was done entirely in secret and my finding out was largely a process of decades worth of experience in digging around pointless and hidden crooks and crannies of the internet.
And I must be clear on one thing, the following events were not malicious, nor did they carry the intent to discover any secret deep enough and dark enough that It could blind even me.
It was simply that upon learning about this utterly inexplicable purchase, my research fuse was lit, and I would do whatever it took to find the answer.
The problem was to me that I could find absolutely no reason why either such a successful company would want to but such a place, let alone both. Examining the evidence, I discovered that neither company seemed in need of more office room for their employees and what other use could the building be for? (Especially considering office jobs at A and B require few staff members.) production then? But of course, I knew that was silly considering it was an office building. It all you drew to me, you see? The mystery of the purpose of the building, the secret purchase, the union of such two completely hateful and rival companies. It was the exact sort of enticing mystery that really drove me.
And so for weeks I would spend my off time searching media, records, articles, anything that I could find about this inexplicable purchase.
And I found nothing.
Yes, nothing.
It was truly strange. Even a mundane purchase, so long as it involves enough money and is done by large enough company, will be reported by some news station, or mentioned by someone on social media. At there very least, there will be some small trace of it lying around, like breadcrumbs pecked up by the swarming pigeons that are the internet.
I soon realized that my initial discovery of the purchase was a fluke, and a lucky one at that. Because my source had been deleted when I returned to check it. And it was at this point that I began to doubt myself. My first thought was ironically the most irrational; that my discovery of the purchase had been a dream. After all, it had been late and it was not unusual for me to fall asleep by my computer. Perhaps that transition from consciousness to unconsciousness had been clouded by the fog of memory and, in fact, my discovery of that impossible transaction had merely been a dream spawned my search of an interesting conspiracy.
And so, as the weeks passed fruitlessly by, I found myself flagging, my interest waning. I occasionally would realize that I was scrolling through articles and social media posts and not looking for information about the purchase, but about some new venture to focus on.
It would have been better if I had given up just slightly sooner, if my wandering scholarly interest had landed on a new shore, before the tempest struck.
But, in proper storybook fashion, right before I gave in, I found something. It was simply a social media post, by a person such as myself who had found out about the purchase, and wanted more information. I too had requested information on social medias but they never seemed to get much attention, as if whatever algorithm ran the media put a low priority on my posts.
It was not a comprehensive report on the suspicious and unusual transaction, complete with the names, histories, and intentions of all involved, but it served an essential purpose. It told me that what I was searching for was real.
And furthermore, it confirmed something that I had been suspecting in the back of my mind, but had not really acknowledged as possible.
You see, I was right when I said that it was odd for there to be no trace of such a large, multimillion-dollar purchase, especially given the situation. If you think of my breadcrumb analogy, where a more normal purchase would leave crumbs, such a purchase as this one would not leave crumbs, but entire slices. The internet should have leapt upon it in a feeding frenzy. And yet there was nothing. Where there should have been chunks and chunks of information and a frenzy of articles and media posts, there was nothing but a lone crumb sitting here and there, with a few straggling pigeons.
This brings to mind a very obvious and very workable analogy. If you see a mess, what do you do? You sweep it up, of course! And more and more, it seemed that something was sweeping up this mess. And the only pigeons that went after the few crumbs left, were the incredibly persistent ones like me.
And, as I am sure you wonder right now, my nonexistent reader, who would have the ability to sweep away something like this? In this age where a video of a man using a racial slur can race across the internet like an unstoppable wildfire, who could hide something so large and so successfully?
And so, I made a decision; I would go to the building myself to see what I could discover. I rarely involved myself in so-called field research, but I was so alight with interest. Oddly, the research which had yielded the fewest concrete answers had grown in me the strongest of interests.
So, I whittled away the remainder of the school year researching piddling little things of no true interest, watching the calendar for the first day summer vacation.
Summer vacation when I would have the time to take a plane ride to that mysterious building.
Eventually summer did come, though waiting had felt like an awfully long and monotonous task where I did not enjoy my research and I was filled with restless and unfulfilled energy like unreleased libido.
It took me less that three days to be on a plane and away to what I will call City C. I told the few people that new me well enough to be worried if they saw my car missing from the driveway for too long, that I was taking a trip to City C and did not know quite how long I would be gone. And then I was on a plane and on my way to see the object of my obsession.
The time between my departure and my arrival at the building was largely mundane and quite irrelevant to write about. It was just a lot of waiting in airport seats, booking hotel rooms, eating fast food, and saying, “thank you,” and, “excuse me.” That sort of thing.
Here is the important part, the part that led me to where I am today.
I pulled up the building in some rented black SUV, it was something like a Chevvy or a Subaru, though I don’t remember exactly and it does not matter, I suppose.
I got out and I just stood there for a moment and looked up at it. It was tall and made of glass and was near a parking garage. The type of building you might see in any city and that was only unique because of its address and the people who worked there, and in this case, that part most of all.
I walked through the sliding doors and saw an empty communal sort of space with a man at a desk, as you might see in any other building like it. Once again, I found myself frozen and I discovered that I was not sure what exactly to say. I had been so single mindedly focused on reaching this point, that I had not planned for such a basic detail. So, what on earth did I say?
“Sir, I have been frantically researching your building for almost half a year and have developed and intense curiosity about its purpose and the intent of those who bought it. Furthermore, I believe information about it is being covered up by hidden and powerful figures. Please tell me about this, and if you are not able to contact me with someone who can.”
I have never been particularly social. As my nonexistent reader has doubtlessly realized, I prefer solitude and research to socialization. However, that does not mean that I lack basic social instincts, and I realized that such a direct approach would be rejected, and if my luck was poor, would result in me being escorted out by security as some obsessed madman.
“Excuse me, sir.”
My thoughts were interrupted promptly though, as the man at the desk spoke. He was pale and had dark gelled hair, and his face had an appearance of scholarly genuineness, which appealed strongly to me.
“How can I help you today sir? I notice that you do not work here so you might be in the wrong building.”
The man smiled and his cheeks dimpled in an extremely charming way.
“Ah, yes, I do not work here, but I did come on purpose. Well, you see, I have somewhat of a scholarly interest in this building, and I was hoping you could answer some questions. If you don’t mind.”
This was not what I or he actually said, but it approximates my memories closely enough, as, obviously was nervous, and so I may have stuttered a bit and sounded rather foolish.
“A reporter, then? I regret to inform you that I am not permitted to speak about this facility’s private matters to anyone except those with clearance, please excuse me.
The man, whose desk had a plaque with the name, Damien Role, inscribed upon it, spoke with a professional and blandly artificial tone that was laced with the perfect amount of annoyance to made it quite clear that he was not in the mood to deal with nosey reporters. But I persisted.
“Actually, I have a personal interest in this building, and am not related to any news station. I merely stumbled upon some mentions of it on the internet and found some details about it intriguing. I am a bit of a scholar, you see, and I enjoy investigating the unexplained. I am sure that most of what I want to learn is public knowledge that is available somewhere on the internet and it would not be in violation of clearance to tell me a bit about it.”
After finishing this verbal barrage, and while feeling slightly out of breath, I realized that I had perhaps been to pushy, and quite suspicious. I felt very sure that this Damien Role knew as well as I that this information was very much, not, available publicly on the internet, and that my being here was likely a last-ditch attempt to find any scrap of information.
And yet, Damien did not immediately reject me, instead he reached under his desk, seeming to rummage around in some papers, before looking back up to me. His brown eyes gleamed under the even artificial light.
“Not a reporter, you say, and you simply have a personal interest in this information?”
“Yes,” I replied with concealed excitement.
“Well,” Damien sighed, “I suppose I can make an exception, but only if the boss allows me to, and of course, you do seem very genuine.
He smiled that dimpled smile again, and then began dialing on a black wired phone, which I had not noticed sitting on the corner of his desk.
“Hello?”
“There is a fellow here who has some questions about the facility.”
“I know sir, but he says he merely has a personal interest based on research, and he seems very genuine.”
“Sounds good, thank you sir.”
“Goodbye.”
Damien continued his charming smile, and said, “The boss will be down in a few minutes, he would like to speak with you himself. But in the meantime, I would be delighted to hear more about you.
It was at this point that I began to feel that something strange was happening; Damien agreeing so easily after our short conversation, this boss coming down for something as menial as a walk in, and some other intangible feeling like that creeping unearthly feeling you experience when someone is watching you. I did not entirely realize or recognize the feeling for what it was, and today, I deeply regret that.
And so, despite my irrational unease, I took a seat in a line of black leather chairs which lined the wall and asked, “well what do you want to know?”
So I spoke to Damien about a few meaningless details like my name, and that I was visiting from City D and the fact that I found it so hard to find details about the transaction. And then I heard the faint mechanical sound of an elevator door opening, and out walked a man. He was tall and thin, with a milky look to his skin, but he still managed to be handsome.
“You must be Mr. John Smith, (a fake name of course), my name is Geralt Fens,” the tall man said to me. And extended a hand for a shake.
The tall man’s shake was perfectly firm and his palms were neither rough from callous nor smooth from an easy life. It was, I thought, an utterly flawless handshake.
“Yes, sir,” Damien said, “Mr. Smith came here on a trip all the way from city D, and his interest is entirely from his own research. Very unique, don’t you say?”
“Very unique, Mr. Role. And you say he seems genuine, too?”
“He certainly is, sir.”
For some reason, Mr. Fens’s eyes looked predatory to me in that moment: the black pit-like eyes of a shark bearing down on a fat, unknowing trout. But then they returned to friendly professionalism in a blink.
“Well, Mr. Smith, I would like to speak with you about this in my office. It is more comfortable for me up there, and I don’t want to be away too long. You know how it is, always working.”
He laughed.
And I finally realized that I did not want to be here.
“You would not mind if took notes, would you?” I asked with all the innocence I could muster. “You see, I know it seems silly, but I have quite the vested interest in this building.”
Geralt Fens’s eyes flickered, but he answered with the same joviality.
“Why of course not, take out your notebook and take all the notes you like, I don’t mind at all.”
“Thank you so much, Mr. Fens, I will be right back. I left my notebook in the car. You see, I did not want to seem like a reporter by bringing in a notebook with me.”
I had turned around and began walking toward the sliding glass doors, when I heard the voice of Damien.
“Mr. Smith, that certainly does not seem genuine.”
I felt a horrible chill crawl up my spine, and I slowly turned around. Damien Role and Geralt Fen both seemed to hulk like dark mountains behind me.
I began to run.

Please tell me what you think.

2024.05.12 19:39 SuperStealYoGirl Help me not spend $650 on a new battery

I get my car serviced at Subaru dealerships because I have the Gold Plus warranty and it makes for easier logging of the maintenance history. I took my '21 sport in to the dealership for routine servicing yesterday. They said the battery was testing bad, which was news to me because my car hasn't had any problems starting whatsoever, and they could install one that day, but it would cost $650. I've had no issues with my battery at all, but it is 3.5 years old and coming up on 50k miles.
From the terms of the extended warranty, when I do eventually replace my battery, I think it does need to be a Subaru one, or else that provides grounds for any future claims to be denied due to having a third party part. Doing some cursory googling and $650 definitely sounds like robbery even with labor.
I don't know all that much about cars so any advice would be appreciated!
EDIT: I went to my local Advance Auto Parts and got the battery tested. It checked out fine, so looks like I will not be replacing my battery any time soon and no longer going to my dealership to get serviced. Friendship over! I learned a lot about batteries today and I think I'm going to learn to do my own maintenance from now on. Thank you all for your helpful replies!

2024.05.11 15:16 PerceptionOrganic672 Thoughts so far...

I bought a new RAV4 XLE gas model about 3 weeks ago. Here are my initial impressions coming from a Subaru Forester. I needed a reliable vehicle to take me into my retirement years and my Subaru had begun to have very expensive service and repairs not under warranty.
Powertrain - this is the BEST thing about this car. This powertrain with the 8-speed transmission is so highly refined, its hard to believe how smooth it is. It doesn't hunt gears at low speeds and always seems to know what gear to be in - and the shifts are mostly imperceptible. Its incredibly smooth! The power is good enough for every day driving, accelerating on a freeway ramp and passing. The engine is loud when pushed but it settles down at cruising speeds and at idle.
Ride/Handling - the ride is smooth and the handling is just fine in every day driving. Its not the vehicle to carve corners at high speeds with but that is not why I bought it. The road noise is a bit loud at higher speeds but I think some of that is the Toyo "Open Country" tires.
MPG -averaging about 25 MPG mostly city driving - maybe that will improve some as the engine breaks in
Technology - my last vehicle didn't even have Apple CarPlay so I am in heaven with this as I use my iPhone for everything. So far it works very well. The sound from the standard 6-speaker stereo is adequate for music (if you don't crank it up really loud) and works perfectly for podcasts and satellite radio news shows which is a lot of what I listen to daily.
Build Quality - the vehicle feels solid on the road. The doors at first seemed a bit flimsy but they close with a pretty solid thunk but you do have to close them pretty hard. There have been a few rattles inside but mainly when its cold, once the vehicle gets going and warm, they seem to go away. The biggest rattle I heard turned out to be the tag frame the dealer put on the back with my tag which was not tight - I fixed that! This gets good crash test scores so I am assuming the car is solidly built.
Cargo/Space - the cargo area is generous and holds more than you think especially with the seats down. I picked up a large catering order for a work event this week and it blew my mind how much it actually held with the seats down!
Overall - so far I am happy with this vehicle and hope that continues. Since making mistakes buying cars when younger, I always buy new with a lot of trade equity and/or cash down so I have a small loan and immediate equity so if I decide I don't like it, I can sell it or trade it without losing my shirt completely since I am nowhere near upside down on it. We'll see how this thing does over time but so far so good!!

2024.05.11 09:18 zackphoenix123 If Re:Zero and Mushoku Tensei ever got a crossover fanfiction, how do you guys think it'll go?

If Re:Zero and Mushoku Tensei ever got a crossover fanfiction, how do you guys think it'll go?
This is gonna be a bit long cause a lot of this is me mumbling about all my thoughts on this so far. Also this is kind've half a repost and have a continuation to this post I made a while back. This time I got the mods approval, so I pray it won't get taken down. Also Also this post will contain spoilers for Re:Zero, but it will only contain world building details. If I ever end up spoiling plot details, those will be put in spoiler tags.
Mushoku Tensei and Re:Zero have always been my two favourite isekai stories of all time. This goes beyond the anime and to the Light Novels as well. Though I'm not caught up on both, I'm up to date with Mushoku Tensei's anime, but only at volume 10 in the Light Novels. As for Re:Zero I finished Arc 6, but Arcs 7 and 8 are over 10 volumes now so I'm really behind on that as well. Even so! I love those two stories to death. For Mushoku Tensei though, I plan on reading the entire thing from the start this october and binging it all the way through. If this post feels more Re:Zero focused than Mushoku, apologies for that- Since I've read over double the amount of Re:Zero content than Mushoku, I just know more about that than this. I guess in a way I'm relying a bit more on you guys to fill in the Mushoku gaps lmao.
Anyway! This all started when I first viewed the maps of both Mushoku Tensei and Re:Zero's world.
So Mushoku Tensei looks like this- (I think this is an official map?)
And Re:Zero's world looks like this. Also credit to the artist u/worel. I picked the fan map instead of the official one cause the official one kinda looks a bit child-y imo
So then I wondered, right- what if at one point in Mushoku Tensei, and this came from out of nowhere. Something which no one in Re:Zero or Mushoku Tensei (including Hitogami or Orsted) could've seen coming, bam! the Re:Zero world is smacked right in that open ocean.
https://preview.redd.it/vz8m5ufm4qzc1.png?width=995&format=png&auto=webp&s=9b62004027b3484bb782bfc30c816e64f557376f
From research, its seems like Re:Zero's world is described as being as big as Eurasia and that makes a lot of sense given in the context of Re:Zero's lore, half the world was destroyed by the Witch of Envy. My friend is really adamant that Mushoku Tensei's world is only 1/6 the size of earth because it's only one side of the 6 worlds, but idk- I like to think that map on its own is as big as our global map. In any case, I found that giant ocean a perfect place to drop the World of Re:Zero in.
I find this idea fascinating because both worlds are very expansive with lots of culture and lore and politics at play that feel like they all have domino effects. Also at this point in Re:Zero, the story is going through a history defining political struggle. With the giant cast of characters, if this kind of crossover were to happen (in a way that isn't like Isekai Quartet), there will be so many moving parts between so many different characters that the possibilities are almost endless!
This is kinda where I'm at a loss. While I know how to start the fanfic, I don't know when and "where-to-where" it should happen.
Initially, I thought it'd be interesting to summon Subaru to Lugunica right as turning point 1 happens as there would've been mass teleportation and it works as a nice set up. But at this point Rudeus would've been sent to the Demon continent at age 12. Subaru and Rudeus would have a roughly 5 year age gap. I know this is a really dumb thing to get hung over by, but I would like for them to be roughly the same age at most 2 years age gap because I do want for them to meet in some capacity eventually and having them be roughly the same age would be nice. Also if I do the setting of turning point 1, by the time Rudeus crosses the Demon continent which took about six months, in the original Re:Zero timeline, Subaru would've already gone through Arc 1, 2, 3 and 4 with months of extra time to spare. So one would be rather uneventful while other would've already progressed so much in narrative if we look at what happened in their respective original timeline. Another thing is by the time turning point 1 happens, Rudeus doesn't really have a large group of people around him. It takes him months if not years to form that group that we saw in Season 2.
I also thought about having Rudeus be teleported to Lugunica around the same time Subaru, so that instantly puts Subaru and Rudeus together. Ultimately Rudeus' goal would still be to return to the Ashura kingdom so that makes for an interesting concept on its own seeing how Rudeus and Eris would navigate Lugunica. But that would mean not meeting Rudjerd and, while I don't know how not meeting him would affect the story, it'd be such a waste for him to just disappear.
So I was thinking about picking a time that's most eventful in Rudeus' life where there wouldn't be much time skips. My friend told me that Mushoku Tensei does stop jumping around time too much after turning point 3 (I have no idea what happens in turning point 3, but I'm so excited. Saw the opening and it seems Rudeus, Paul and Roxy and co. are all working together to save Zenith from the dungeon, Hype!). Though at that point, it'd be a bit unfair to Subaru who at the start of the story knows no one. If word got out that Re:Zero's world was summoned into another world in arc 1 especially, Subaru would be far more suspicious and I'm pretty sure would be suspected to come from the sixfacedworld. Though luckily, after the events of Arc 6, Subaru gets teleported by that point in Re:Zero, Subaru would have many friends and would be far more acquainted with Re:Zero's world much like Rudeus would be to his by the time he's roughly around Subaru's age.
Right! Next is the "Where-to-Where." This isn't really an issue, must more just I haven't decided yet. So Re:Zero's world is split into 4 main empires, the Sacred Vollachia Empire, The Holy Kingdom of Gusteko, the city-states Kararagi, and Dragon Kingdom of Lugunica. Depending on what Orientation Re:Zero's world is, it'll influence the story in so many different ways. Like if Lugunica now faces south, then the miasma from the sand dunes would fuck up a large chunk of the Milis kingdom and in this case Vollachia would face west, that'd put them head to head with the Shiron kingdom. Though since I haven't read Arc 7, I don't know how things will actually play out. But here I'll most likely just stick to having Re:Zero maintain its north east south and west directions.
Though I always thought if Re:Zero was summoned to Mushoku Tensei's world during the start of Arc 1 and Lugunica faces west as it should, and Emilia asked Subaru where he came from and Subaru just stupidly pointed to the east then it's later revealed that the east is the demon continent, things would be hella awkward later on and funny. Though one thing I don't know is if Mushoku Tensei's demons are reffered to as "Akuma" cause that's a bit different from Re:Zero's Oni.
But- yeah, that's pretty much it. I wanted to ask you guys for your thoughts on when you think the best time to summon Re:Zero to Mushoku Tensei's world is. If there's any point after turning point 1. Another thing is I'm very interested in the political and cultural implications of this. Afterall, Summoning a whole different world would make both sides curious about the other. What's more, Nanahoshi and Rudeus being native from Japan would be able to tell instantly that Re:Zero characters all throughout the world speak Japanese making things so that communications between the two worlds would be very difficult. Rudeus would be a very reliable asset to the Sixfacedworld kingdoms, though I'm not sure if he'd want to immediately reveal he can speak japanese. Same goes with Nanahoshi I suppose.
And depending on the time period, tensions between the two worlds could be extremely high. Adding onto how they can't really easily communicate, Vollachia and Gusteko have reputations for being very agressive, and Lugunica is in the middle of a political debacle. Wars could break out if things don't stop escalating.
And to the side of Subaru and Rudeus, their adventures would drastically change. Especially Rudeus who travels a lot. It's possible that there are some people he'd never end up meeting cause something, even just one thing, changed. My friend also accidentally told me that Hitogami has the ability to make himself seem super trustworthy towards all those in the six faced world, so his ability won't work on people from Re:Zero's world. Orsted too would recognise this as being an anomaly (obviously). Alongside this, the existence of authorities and the completely different magic system would have the two worlds collide and there would be lots of interesting match ups as time progresses. Both worlds having absolute monsters who may or may not collide.
Interestingly enough, I think while the six-faced-world will be surrounding Od Lagna, judging by the type of characters present in Re:Zero's world, it seems they will most likely be the instigator for any big event. Though I think it'll be very weird if they'll instantly realize that a new world was summoned. News don't really travel fast in fantasy worlds
We can also say that the royal selection in Re:Zero's world could either be put on hold as they have to prioritise this bigger world scale event, or maybe they'll have the King candidates work together. So many possibilities!
If you read all that, thanks in advance!!

2024.05.10 15:43 boutell New US and Canadian CHAdeMO chargers in April 2024

Welcome to the March new chargers report, fellow Chadoomers!
Almost all of you are my fellow Leaf owners, hoping for just one new chargepoint on your favorite route, before the great dwarven CHAdeMO forges beneath the earth go cold for all time. Here's an update.
Here are all of the new US and Canadian CHAdeMO (Leaf fast-charging) stations that rolled out in April, according to the Alternative Fuels Data Center. You can fetch the data yourself here. Feel free to report inaccuracies to the AFDC.
For comparison's sake: in the US, there were 200 "new" (or updated) CHAdeMO stations added in March, with at least 200 chargepoints. To put it in perspective, there were 102 new or updated US stations in April of 2023. This month's report is surprisingly strong, given how late we are in CHAdeMO's lifecycle. It is unclear if this is due to a large number of refreshed stations, or a large rollout of new stations that happen to include at least one CHAdeMO chargepoint, but it may be the latter thanks to Inflation Reduction Act funding. In any case, it is good news for those of us with legacy vehicles.
Keep in mind that even EVGo has started to roll out stations where only some of the bays support CHAdeMO. This makes sense given that only Nissan still sells a CHAdeMO pure-battery-electric car in the US, and the newer Nissan Ariya model is CCS. The Mitsubishi Plug-In Hybrid Outlander PHEV also supports CHAdeMO.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or reading these monthly reports is just frustrating in your state, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications only when new stations actually open. You can sign up at evpov.com. I built it to help EV owners like myself (especially my fellow Leaf owners). You can pick other plug types as well.
To streamline this post, multi-chargepoint locations are listed with the number of chargepoints first. Some stations may actually have more CHAdeMO chargepoints than reported here, but most won't, because even EVGo has started to reduce the number of CHAdeMO chargepoints per station. So in the case of CHAdeMO I make a pessimistic assumption to avoid creating unrealistic expectations.
Even so, for actual trip planning I recommend using PlugShare. This report is mainly useful to understand trends.

2024.05.10 13:25 bleaght CVT Warranty Nightmare

Hey guys, just wanted to get some opinions on my warranty situation. I have owned my '15 Forester XT Premium since 2018. It has overall been a mostly trouble-free car and my wife loves it. So much so that we have held on to it for much longer than we normally do, since there is no replacement for the FXT. We have only had a couple of sensors go on us and we had an issue with the transmission leaking fluid.
We had the transmission serviced under the factory warranty back in 2019 at a local dealership. The dealership took the trans off the car and resealed everything. When that work was done we were informed that Subaru would be extending our transmission warranty out to 10 years, 100k miles. This was excellent news and a major factor in us hanging on to the car for longer.
Fast forward to today, the transmission has officially given up the ghost. According to the dealer the transmission ran out of fluid. We had honestly not been paying much attention to drips or leaks since we had assumed that the dealer had fixed the issues several years ago. The car has 99k miles on the clock and turns 10 years old in Novemeber, Subaru did confirm that the car is still under the transmission warranty.
The car has officially been sitting at the dealer for 2 full weeks. The dealership opened a case with Subaru of America on my behalf for this repair and I have been assigned "Senior Advocacy Specialist". I tried to reach out to them but have left now 3 voicemails with no call back and sent several emails to only get unfulfilled promises, more on that later.
A subaru field engineer came to inspect the car and required that the dealer fill the transmission with fluid and test to see if it fixed the issue. They called me to inform me of this and told me that I would be on the hook for filling the transmission. I almost choked on the amount of estimated cost to fill up this broken transmission, $85 per quart (up to 14 quarts) and $350 for labor. All told it could be as much as $1,540 for them to fill up the transmission just to see if it might work on top of the diagnostic fee I am already on the hook for. I was told that this amount would likely not be covered under warranty even if they decided it would be a warranty repair. After talking to my wife we decided to have them proceed.
I attempted to reach my Advocacy Specialist at SoA leaving a voicemail and sending an email. To which I got a promise of a call on 5/1 with an update. The call never came.
The dealership remarked to me that there were tool witness marks on the transmission drain plug and they could not be sure if the trans was purposefully or accidentally drained rather than simply leaking out over time. Which honestly made my heart sink, this is the sort of scrutiny that happens when a company is doing everything they can to avoid a warranty fix.
I got no news from them as to whether this test worked or not. So I reached out to my SoA advocate yet again since I never got a call on 5/1. I was then promised that I would have an update from my advocate on 5/7. Spoiler alert, no call ever came.
I got word from the dealer that their DQSM (not sure what that acronym stands for) was requesting a full history of maintenance on the vehicle. I informed them another time that the car had only had its transmission serviced at another Subaru dealership. Outside of that it has been maintained at a local shop or by myself. (I do most of my own oil changes). They insisted on needing a full history. So I gave it to them in spreadsheet format. I have invoices from my local repair shop, as well as the other Subaru dealer and I keep a spreadsheet of oil changes that I perform.
After receiving this the DQSM insisted on running more tests while attempting to drive the car. I was informed these tests would happen when the DQSM was on site on 5/7. I have not heard anything now days later.
So here we are on 5/10 still with no news or updates on what is happening. I have been driving a "rental" car from the dealership while waiting for their decision and to the credit of the dealer, they decided on 5/7 to cap the $45 rental fee at 3 days because of how long everything is taking. This is likely due to me expressing my concern on the mounting repair and rental car bill to them on several occasions.
Am I crazy for thinking this should be pretty cut and dry? I feel like SoA is trying to find any possible reason to deny my warranty claim.
All of this has me extremely worried about Subaru honoring the 8 year 120k extended warranty I just purchased last year for my '21 LXT. This has me second guessing going with Subaru ever again. Which is a shame because I have loved all 4 of my Subarus to date and had planned to replace this FXT with a new Subaru within the next year or so. This whole situation has been frustrating and disheartening to say the least.
Thanks for reading my rant.
Update: The denied the warranty claim saying that I or someone else who worked on the vehicle drained the transmission of 5.5 quarts. Their evidence being tool marks on the drain plug and an overfilled front differential.
SoA offered to cover $5000 of the $9500 repair estimate from the dealer.
So I definitely did get completely and utterly screwed on this one. Now I'm in a position where I have to likely talk the dealer into selling me a new car and figuring out a way to use the credit from SoA to get out from under my Forester.
That means we have little recourse other than to buy another Subaru from this same dealer. We will lose thousands of dollars any other way that you slice it.
What a joke. If I do get essentially forced into another Subaru, rest assured it will be my last.

2024.05.10 07:59 EndOfImagination [SF] The Great Classified Unknown

“Officer Madson, I understand your concern, but what you are suggesting is ridiculous! I just cannot leave my home! Not without a concrete reason. How long did you say we had to stay away? A full month or two? I spent my whole life saving for this house! We built it from the ground up, perfectly customized to our liking. My family wants nothing more than to be here!”
This was the third time in only three days when Dave had received orders to leave his house immediately and head to safety. He lived only a few miles from Okefenokee Swamp, and according to all three officers, something dangerous was lurking there. Any additional information was supposedly classified, and he was unable to sway any of them into divulging more. They had each claimed to not know the full story either.
Dave’s wife had insisted on traveling to safety, as did almost everyone else on their street. She had taken their two kids fifty miles south. Luckily, they had evacuated early enough to find a hotel with rooms still available. But without the house, they would be ruined, and so Dave decided to stay. If something were placing his property and lifestyle at risk, he would rather put up a fight than sit idly by. He was used to large snakes and alligators which were common in the swamp. What could be more dangerous than them?
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you, Dave! Here, take this card. If you notice anything strange or suspicious, give us a call! We would much rather you leave, but if you insist on putting your life at risk, you may as well be of some use!”
With that, Officer Madson left, leaving the street in far too much silence for a Saturday morning. Everyone else had gone, with the exception of one.
“Hey, Mac!” Dave yelled as he banged on the front door of the only other inhabited house. “Mac! Are you there?” he yelled louder.
“Yeah, yeah! Give me a minute!” came the response. “That door is busted enough without you banging on it like that!”
An older, retired man in his early 70s opened the door. A smoke in one hand and a beer in the other.
“Did they get to you yet, Dave? Have you decided to abandon me, too, on this most apocalyptic of fair-weather days? I don’t see no tsunami rolling by, no fiery comets raining down, nor any band of raving wildebeests tearing loose through the streets! Ain’t no way I’m leaving my property, Dave! Five decades I’ve been here, and I recon I may just stay another five! This house is meant for me, and I for it; and no scaredy-cat police department is going to flush me out!”
“No, Mac! Calm down! I insisted on staying. Did they give you one of those silver cards too? With the phone number in case of emergency?” Dave asked.
“Yeah, yeah! They did. Lost it somewhere in the jumble on the table. If I need it bad enough, I’ll resign to cleaning the thing. I woke early to Jimmy calling me around six. He’s the only one left in his neighborhood, and he ain’t budging either! We’re set to meet up 30 minutes from now and you are welcome to join. It is the end of the world after all! The last three holdouts against the great classified unknown!”
Half an hour later, Dave was sitting in the passenger seat of Mac’s old Subaru. Mac’s arm hung out the drivers’ side window; still clutching a half drunken beer. A park halfway between the two neighborhoods was their rendezvous point, and when they arrived, Jimmy was already unpacking and assembling a drone.
“Jimmy! What’s up? That’s quite the gizmo to be playing with when the world’s about to end!” shouted Mac.
“Great, you guys made it! Quick! Come sit down. We are going to do a little snooping! I have a hunch, and I don’t like it!” Jimmy was quite serious, and so Dave and Mac sat opposite to him and watched silently as he finished readying the drone.
“Great idea Jimmy! With that we’ll be able to see what’s going on in the swamp!” Dave exclaimed. “We’ll know what we are up against.”
Jimmy handed a pair of glasses, each, to Dave and Mac. “These will let you see what the drone sees. Fortunately, I had three pairs! Now let’s get to work. You guys know I used to work for the government, right? In the carbon sequestration team, right?” he asked.
Mac looked confused, but Dave briefly remembered a conversation with Jimmy from a couple years prior. Most of Jimmy’s work was confidential and the parts he had discussed were too technical for him, so he had not given it much thought.
Jimmy turned the drone on, calibrated it to hover in the air, and directed it straight up.
“Wow, this has a great camera on it!” exclaimed Mac as the drone rapidly gained altitude. “I need to get one of these for myself!”
“They are nice!” Jimmy started, then more seriously asked “Do either of you remember a year or two ago when the president announced a tremendous breakthrough in carbon sequestration?” Dave and Mac stayed silent and looked at each other in confusion. “Come on guys, it was all over the news! A breakthrough to save humankind. I worked on that project – helped engineer it myself actually – but I became skeptical. I asked too many questions that did not have enough satisfactory answers, I suppose, because I was terminated! Fired, for trying to make sure everything was safe!”
Jimmy angled the drone towards the swamp. They were still a mile or so away, and as the drone began its journey, he continued his story.
Before taking the government job, Jimmy had worked in a biology lab where he studied genetic code; particularly with regards to altering the DNA of plants to make them more resistant to harsh climates. With multiple successes over a twenty-year career, the government had sought out him and his team to work on a much more important project.
The amount of carbon in the atmosphere was reaching dangerous levels, according to the officials. They had hired a thinktank to work tirelessly on finding a solution, and after much deliberation, a type of genetically modified plant seemed to be the best solution.
“Look here guys!” The drone had made it to the swamp, and Jimmy had zoomed the camera in close to the ground. “Do you know what kind of plant this is? It’s a Pitcher plant, one of a dozen or so species of carnivorous plants that live around here. Anyway, our government research began with one of those. I do not know why they chose that plant, but they did. Anyway, its genetic code proved to be very malleable.”
“We were tasked with making certain alterations to its genetic code. In the end, we butchered it and spliced it full of so many additional genes that it became unrecognizable. We spliced in genes to make it grow faster; much faster. Genes to increase its ability to uptake water and nutrients to capture as much carbon as possible. To grow an extensive root system that burrows deep into the ground. To…”
“Wait! I heard about that!” exclaimed Mac. “You designed that crazy plant that grows all those massive twisty roots? That are burrowing God knows where down towards Hell itself?! Didn’t those things cause the earthquakes up near the Canadian border last Spring? Wasn’t one found growing a hundred miles out at sea, which was not supposed to be possible? What ever possessed you to make such a monstrosity?” Mac was clearly uneasy.
“Jimmy, wait, go back!” yelled Dave.
Jimmy flipped a switch to cause the drone to fly in reverse.
“Yes! Right there, that is an alligator, right?” Dave asked.
The alligator was lying on its side, half covered by some sort of vegetation.
Jimmy lowered the drone and as the alligator became more visible, they noticed that it was not a typical plant covering the alligator. It was fifteen or twenty of the carnivorous Pitcher plants, and they were growing out of the rotting corpse of the alligator itself!
“Guys, you have to believe me when I say it was not supposed to be able to do this! We completely removed the gene that coded for the development of the main Pitcher part of the plant. We replaced it with a gene for small purple flowers. I did try to convince the other scientists that something like this was a possibility - and it looks like my fears were correct. The plant had multiple copies of that gene in different parts of its DNA. Random mutations had turned them off throughout eons of evolution, but again by random chance, those genes must have been reactivated. That’s the only explanation for this!”
“Okay…”, began Dave. “But a pitcher plant only eats small insects; they certainly don’t attack alligators!”
“We drastically increased the plants’ ability to seek out water and nutrients so that it would grow as quickly as possible. It must have found a way to digest large animals, like that alligator, which means that it is evolving quickly!”
Jimmy moved the drone as close as possible to the bizarre sight of Pitcher plants growing out of the side of the alligator.
“Look here! See those little purple flowers around the stem of the pitcher? That’s proof that this is our plant! I don’t know how old this one is, but after just a week, its roots will spread out over a 20 foot radius and burrow 100 feet into the ground. It was a huge success. The carbon level in the atmosphere was falling for the first time in centuries. All buried deep underground in the roots of these plants. But it was not supposed to evolve like this! I tried to warn them of the possibility!”
Jimmy must have flown too close and knocked one of the Pitcher plants, for the camera became hazy with what looked like pollen from one of the little purple flowers. He had found the evidence he wanted and pressed the home button on the drones’ control panel to make it return to him.
“Well guys, we found what we were looking for! Maybe it would be best…”
“Jimmy! That’s a person!” yelled Mac. “Lying on the edge of the swamp!”
Jimmy wheeled around, threw his drone glasses back on, and resumed manually navigating the drone. He backtracked a bit, and sure enough, there was a person laying by the edge of the swamp! The person was wearing an army uniform, and as the drone advanced closer, they saw Pitcher plants growing out of his back. Just like the alligator! A tangle of roots fell out of his jacket, burrowing back underground a few feet away. Then they spotted another person, then a third, and then a fourth. As the drone gained elevation and the camera zoomed out, they counted fifteen people in total.
“Well congratulations, Jimmy!” yelled Mac. “Your engineered plant thing surely is saving humanity now!”
Jimmy and Dave sat in shock. None of them spoke for the better part of five minutes.
Jimmy came up with a plan first. “Okay guys, here is what we are going to do. Both of you, go back to your places immediately. I’ll pack up the drone, head back to my place to grab some stuff, then pick you up. If the plant is now killing people, we really can’t stay here! We should stay together. Find someone who will listen. That silver card with the emergency number. You two, call that number on your way back! I’ll come pick you up first, Mac, in 45 minutes maximum!”
Dave and Mac went back to the Subaru and they took off, leaving Jimmy to deal with the drone.
“Alright, I got the number here!” announced Dave as they began to drive. He dialed it and Officer Madson answered.
“Officer!” yelled Dave. “We saw it! The plant out in the swamp! We flew a drone over the area and one of the plants was eating an alligator…”
“A plant eating an alligator! Are you sure? Well, it is confidential information, but the army is looking into it! They mentioned that they must contain something as soon as possible. It must be that plant! They may even have to use large doses of radiation to do so. Do you believe me now that you should leave?” the Officer asked.
“Yes, we are packing some stuff now! But Officer, we didn’t call you about the alligator. We called you about the 15 dead army men! I don’t think they have the situation under control anymore!”
“Dead?!” screamed the officer. “They were supposed to call me this morning. I’m going to place a few calls immediately, believe me! Then I’m getting as far away from this thing as possible!”
Once home, Dave immediately called his wife while gathering important things from his house. He placed them in a box by the front door. He would be ready to go as soon as Jimmy and Mac arrived. He sat down in front of the TV to try and pass time faster, but nothing seemed interesting. He paced back and forth across the living room. A couple times he remembered another important trinket, retrieved it, and placed it in the box. Eventually he lay down on the couch and stared at the ceiling.
He waited, and waited, and waited. Time must have been going in slow motion. He took another minute to concentrate on the absolute silence of his neighborhood street. Usually, it would be full of the sounds of life – cars driving, lawnmowers and leaf blowers, and kids playing basketball a few houses down from his. The silence was ominous, and he began to feel its weight.
He got up and paced some more. The sound of his feet was better than the silence. Then he tried to read a chapter from his favorite book – to no avail. He opened the door to the backyard, drawing it all in just in case he would never see it again. Then he called his wife again.
“Honey, are you on the road?” she asked. And then: “…No? It’s been well over an hour since you called, I thought you said Jimmy was on his way!”
A chill ran up Dave’s spine. Having only met him a couple times, he barely knew Jimmy. But Jimmy did not seem like the type of person to be late to anything.
“I’ll call you back when we are on the road!” Dave said before hanging up.
He grabbed his box of important paperwork and things from around the house and carried them up the street to Mac’s house. He knocked loudly, then rang the bell when he did not answer immediately.
“Jimmy, is that you?” Mac asked. “Come on in - I have everything ready to go!”
Dave pushed the door open. “No! It’s Dave! So he hasn’t come by yet? Where is he? The sun’s setting in an hour or so!” he exclaimed; his voice becoming more frantic as he carried on.
“Relax Dave! Come on in and grab a beer! I’m glad you’re here, the silence is starting to spook me!” Mac responded.
They sat and tried to distract themselves, but the next half hour came and went with no sign of Jimmy.
“Want some chips?” asked Mac, as he stood and walked into the kitchen. He grabbed some plates, a large bag of chips, and opened the freezer to pull out two more beers. “Hey! Look at that! I got a message. Must have been sometime since you got here! Don’t know why it doesn’t ring properly anymore!” Mac walked across the kitchen and pressed the button to play it.
They both knew who it was. It was Jimmy, but his voice was raspy. Even before he began to talk, Dave pulled out his phone, ready to call the emergency number again.
“Sorry Mac. I felt… nauseous and had to… lay down.” They heard him walk to the sink, fill a glass of water, and drink it. “Maybe… just needed water. Anyway… be over… in 10 minutes!” He filled up the glass of water again, and this time audibly chugged it. “I’ve never felt so… dehydrated!” Fifteen seconds of silence passed, and then the water turned on again. It stayed on for too long. Then a crashing thump onto the floor and a scream. “Ouch! Wait… What’s going on?... No! It was on… the drone… the pollen!”
“Mac, let’s go!” Dave yelled, and they both ran to Mac’s Subaru while Dave called the emergency number.
“This if Officer Daniel” the line responded. “How can I assist you?”
“Great! Send someone immediately! Do you know Jimmy? I think he collapsed onto the floor and needs help!” Mac searched for Jimmy’s address and provided it to the Officer.
“I’ll come over right away! You are the last few people in town and I am the last Officer here. Let’s handle this then all get out of here!”
When Dave and Mac arrived, Officer Daniel was already there. A couple lights were on in the house. They got out of the car, and as they approached the front door, Officer Daniel was just coming out, dragging Jimmy along the ground behind him.
“Hey guys! Found him unconscious on the kitchen floor. Nearest hospital is 20 minutes south, even going 30 over on the highway. If you can keep up, I’ll give you an escort! And, whatever you told Officer Madson sure gave him a fright!”
Dave and Mac watched as Jimmy was hauled into the passenger seat of the police car. They got back into the Subaru to follow. They needed to go south too; the faster the better!
Mac carefully followed Officer Daniel, driving as fast as safely possible down the center of the highway. At least the road was empty because everyone else had already evacuated!
“This is crazy!” exclaimed Mac. “It is actually the end of the world! Who ever thought we would witness it? Do you think they might decide to just nuke the whole swamp? That’s what I would do at this point!”
“No, Mac” Dave responded. “Don’t you see? It got Jimmy too! Besides, it’s roots live so deep underground that I don’t know if a Nuke would stop it. Plus, it grows too fast!”
Silence fell between them again, until Dave’s cell phone began to ring.
It was his wife. In tears. “Dave! Are you almost here? They just called me! It’s not safe here either. We have to go further south. Or west to a drier climate. A scientist on the news thought our best chance was to go somewhere dry!”
“We are on our… oh, yikes!”
It happened so suddenly. One moment Officer Daniel was driving straight down the center of the highway with his lights flashing. Then he slowly drifted into the left lane, then the shoulder, and then completely off the side of the road. He hit something, flipped vertically two and a half times, and crashed upside down in a ball of flames!
“The police officer just crashed! Don’t think they could have survived that!” Dave yelled into the phone.
Mac kept driving. “No point in stopping! It’s better this way - we don’t need any more of those cursed plants further away from the swamp!”
“It must have spread from Jimmy to Officer Daniel!” Dave reasoned. “Get the kids ready. Mac and I will come pick you up and then we are getting as far away from here as we can! If they don’t like the heat of the desert, start looking for plots of land there!” He hung up and tried to close his eyes to block the days’ horrors from his mind for just a minute.
Tried – because before they were all the way closed, they hit a big speedbump. Dave bounced on his seat, head almost hitting the ceiling. The Subaru swerved, but Mac regained control – for just a moment – before hitting another big bump.
“Damn it!” Mac cried. “Tire is flat, and it sounds like the axel is shot! What was that?! Something was laying all across the road!” He put on the breaks and came to a stop. He got out of the car, the smell of burning tire rubber now hanging thick.
“Pretty sure I saw what it was, looked like some of those roots!” Dave said.
“Be back in a minute! Glad I finally have a use for this!” Mac opened the trunk of the Subaru, grabbed what looked to be a flamethrower, and ran back along the road. 15 minutes later, he was back, covered in sweat.
“Dave! It was one of those cursed twisted root things like you said! About as thick as my leg! I thought they were only supposed to grow down into the Earth? Jimmy, how dare he help create something like this! I burned it up rather good though and got it off the highway! We have to nuke them, electrocute them, or get the army fight back with flamethrowers! Dave, what are you doing in the driver’s seat? I’m not tired, I can keep driving!”
“Mac. Listen to me. You saw the root, but did you see any of the Pitcher plants with purple flowers?”
“Yeah I did! There were a bunch of them, too. In fact I burned those up too… hey come on! Unlock the doors! I have some tissues in the back seat. One of them sprayed me with something. I got to get it off of me. Dave come on!”
Dave shifted the car into drive and slammed on the gas. Someone had to survive! A frantically running Mac slowly disappeared behind him in the darkness as the flat tire wobbled horrendously on the broken axel. He grabbed his phone and called his wife.
“Honey! I’m still on my way. Ran into a little more trouble, but don’t worry! We’ll take your car instead!”
He went as fast as seemed reasonably possible given the condition of the car and by now he was only a few miles away.
Up ahead, the road was cracked. The locals had complained about it for years to no avail. Vegetation had grown along the cracks and within the potholes. But now those cracks and potholes were filled with dozens - perhaps hundreds - of those carnivorous Pitcher plants with the purple flowers and the poisonous pollen.
Dave did not even consider stopping. He was too panicked. Too desperate to get to his wife and to leave Mac as far behind as possible. He rolled across the Pitcher plants without a second thought. In fact, he wanted to crush them. Take them out from within the perceived safety of the Subaru. As he rolled across them, however, they threw up a thick cloud of pollen. The cars’ ventilation was open, constantly sucking in air from outside, and before Dave even knew what was happening, he inhaled a large lungful of the foul-smelling pollen.
He slammed on the breaks and sat screaming within the car for a full minute. Nothing more he could do. He had tried his best. He exited the car and found a place to lay down and stare up at the stars. He reached for his phone to call his wife but realized that it was still in the car. He was already too nauseous to stand up, having breathed in such a large amount of the pollen. He turned his attention back to the sky. He even saw a few shooting stars before searing pain crossed his forehead. Or were those streaks of light just his vision failing?
“Dave! You came to your senses! Don’t ever leave me like that again! I haven’t run for twenty minutes straight since the 10th grade! I’m feeling awfully thirsty, though, and quite a bit sick. If we can just make it to the hospital, I think they might know what to do. But we have to go quick! Ready to go?... Dave?... What are you doing lying on the ground like that anyway? Don’t you hear your phone ringing? It’s surely your wife!”
But as Mac approached, he lunged back in a fit of fright; for there he spotted two Pitcher plants - potted snugly in the sockets of what used to be eyes.

2024.05.08 14:40 dynastycnc Bad Fuel, Expensive Lesson

Hard Lesson - Bad fuel put my WRX out (2021 WRX base FA20)
Well, after going through a nightmare with my recently purchased 2021 WRX base 6 speed, I figured I would share with everyone. Might help someone out experiencing the same symptoms I had. Grab some pop corn lol.
(I'll just journal it from start , to where I am at with the car now.)
Trying to find a manual car was already limiting our options, and we really didn't want to go over 30k, so a WRX seemed to fit the bill. ( We don't regret this at all)
All the dealerships with "stock" WRX's were high mileage and really sketchy. We finally found one at a Subaru dealership but with a catch, it's lightly modified. Reviewed with the wife, and we decided to take a look at it.
The car is in perfect condition, inside and out. 22,000 miles , car drove perfect and for 27k we decided to purchase it . Its note worthy the salesman said he knew the prior owner, had full service record, and the car was traded in with another BRZ that was also in great condition. We felt pretty confident with the purchase.
The mods list :
-ETS STOCK TURBO AIR INTAKE
-INVIDIA 3" HIGH FLOW J-PIPE
-3" CAT BACK EXHAUST SYSTEM
-GRIMMSPEED 3 PORT EBCS
-IAG STREET SERIES V3 AOS
-ETS FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER
-HKS VTA BOV
-PERRIN TURBO INLET
-E85 KIT WITH ETHANOL SENSOR.
-PRO TUNE BY PHAT BOTTI TUNING IN CALI
Car is running excellent. We are enjoying the warm days that we can before the summer really comes in. Decided to take the wife on a date on the weekend for the night , and all went well.
On the way to pick up our 2 children from my mothers house, I decided to fill up and show my wife the Ethanol reading spike when I filled up with e85. ( I have been switching between e85 and 93, but my wife hasn't seen it actually read it live. )
I know, I should have tested this fuel, but we specifically went out to a better "area" and went to a top tier BP. Filled up from 1/4 tank to full. ( Still, I take accountability, and its an expensive lesson I have to pay for now.)
Soon as we hop on the freeway, my readings go from 26% and steadily drop to 13%. I instantly knew something was up.
Next morning I call Michigan Department of Agriculture to file a report, mind you this is Sunday morning. To leave a report you just leave a voicemail.
Literally next morning on Monday, I get a phone call from a state agent, saying they tested the fuel onsite and will send it to the lab for more precise results. Car is still running fine, I am staying out of wide open throttle and staying out of boost as much as I can. It burns through the entire tank with no issues.
A week later, state calls me saying to go get my money back because the fuel is regular 87 fuel, not e85.... great...
I go to the station , and the guy is arguing with me how much trouble this has caused him and now it all has to be shut down and cleaned... I just want my 30 dollars back, which he ends up giving to me. He made me sign a paper saying I received my money back. (I recorded the conversation as my wife was curious lol.)
After filling up again and burning through about half a tank of fresh fuel, the car starts giving me problems. It first started with the slightest misfire, only during idle.
Next morning the car took several cranks to get it started. Had a misfire, and the car ran like shit. Reset the code with the AP, and tried again. Car started smoother, but was idling much worst. Decided its time to tow it into the dealership.
Dealership calls and says its spark plugs and or coil pack. Coil packs are on back order but they really only think its spark plugs. I decide to do the spark plugs and pay over $600 bucks. ( I have explained to them about the bad fuel, and they still insisted all was well.)

4 spark plug turned out to be extremely dark, indicating rich fuel condition.

I picked up the car, started and idled fine. I drive to the gas station and literally as I come to a complete stop at the pump, I feel it start to misfire. I got fresh fuel again, and drove home ( about 15 miles )
Car misfired and ran like shit when idling, could hear distinct light ticks in the exhaust when idling. However the car ran fine when under load.
Schedule and drive the car to tune shop #1, I tasked them with 2 things, give me a detailed list of what's on the car , as the dealership didn't provide me a list ; and figure out why the car is still running like shit.
They did an excellent job, gave me a detailed list, did a compression check ( all cylinders came in at 200 psi. ) and diagnosed the car with fuel a injector problem in cylinder #4. They didn't have the tool to properly do the injector, so I sent it to tune shop #2. These guys (tune shop #1) are awesome and honest, had a great experience. They spent a lot of time on the car , and cost me only $300 out the door.
tune shop #2 diagnosed car, the new spark plug in #4 the dealership put in is fowled, and #1 isn't gapped properly , its extremely tight. They end up recommending a leak down test on the car . Test came back today as 5% leak-down across the board. So finally some good news.
They are certain its the fuel injector at this point, and will proceed to change it out with fresh new spark plugs.
The total for here is just over $1,700.
My whole point with this ? :
****TEST YOUR FUEL****
Dealership is useless. Techs didn't give a shit about solving my actual problem.
( I'm not attacking my sales rep, he sold me a solid , clean car. I'm just upset the dealership just wanted to keep changing out parts at my expense instead of actually helping me.)
Just in general, the feeling of these tune shops feels way more confident.
-I hope my expensive journey helps someone out, or at least entertains some of you lmao.
UPDATE : I received the car from tune shop #2. Super excited and the car is running awesome. Drove it 40 minutes home and made a few more trips and the car idles like new.
Hopefully everything keeps running smooth !
Tune shop was awesome. Knowledgeable people and honest. Money well spent!

2024.05.06 19:00 altasnob WA State Patrol fined $750,000 for failing to disclose public records after Pierce County crash

The Washington State Patrol has been fined $750,000 for public-disclosure failures surrounding a couple’s efforts to find out why troopers dismissed a citation given to a driver believed responsible for a crash that killed their son.
If upheld, the fine imposed by Pierce County Superior Court Judge Bryan Chushcoff would be among the largest public-records penalties levied against a public agency, according to the Washington Coalition for Open Government.
Issac Adler was stopped at a red light on Highway 512 near Interstate 5 when his Subaru was struck from behind by a speeding vehicle driven by a man identified in court documents as Patrick Nicholas III. Adler’s car was spun around and crushed, and he suffered fatal injuries. Nicholas was not hurt, according to the lawsuit.
The Adlers learned Nicholas had a long history of criminal convictions and traffic violations. At the time of the crash, he was driving on a suspended license and was not insured, according to court records. He was cited for negligent driving and lack of insurance and allowed to leave the scene, according to court documents.
Court records show that citation was “voided” at the request of the trooper without explanation about two weeks later, prompting the Adlers to file the first of more than three dozen public disclosure requests to try to find out why. When they didn’t get the documents they asked for, they hired an attorney and sued.
The lawsuit stated that since then, Nicholas “has never been cited, prosecuted, fined or penalized in any way for his actions” that day. While troopers at the scene had asked for criminal investigators to respond, they were unable to come to the scene. The Adlers’ Seattle attorney, Tim Ford, believes says this poisoned any future plans to investigate or prosecute a crime because Nicholas was not arrested, his car wasn’t impounded and he was not tested for impairment.
Ford said it appears the State Patrol “dropped the ball” and the troopers didn’t file additional reports or start building a required noncriminal “Fatality Packet” until the Adlers began filing public records requests six months later.
