Grey Mirror Polished Brass Keyboard with Custom CNC Brass Keycaps
The board is a Monokei Hiro SE and the keycaps are CNC machined blank cherry profile chrome plated brass that were custom made for me. Tsangan bottom row (7u spacebar), stepped caps lock, scooped homing keys. The keycaps are chrome plated rather than pvd coated like the board is but they are a very close match in color with the board. The keycaps are also very thick (see comparison with rama & hibi in the album). The chrome plating on the keycaps has some minor surface imperfections (see images and image descriptions in the album). Comes with 1 extra new solder pcb with daughterboard, 1 millmaxed solder pcb with daughterboard, matching brass plate, 4 extra 1u keycaps (1 in each row profile), stabilizers, lots of heavy springs in various heavy weights including super heavy ones for the spacebar, carrying case. Does not come with switches, the keycaps will be shipped in the jtk tray shown. The weight of this keyboard fully built is about 8.7 lbs

“Lord Wyatt, you are needed” Called Lars that shook me out of my fascinating reading about dragon neuts.
“Yes.” I said as I pulled back the curtain.
“The city guard requests to speak with you. They are restricting entrance to Avalon given the latest attack by Mardor at Black Gate of Rowan.” Lars explained with a salute and chest bump
With a sigh, I handed my book to Gus and exited the carriage and was very impressed with the massive three story gatehouse and huge stone block readouts connected on each side. I was met by a forty something looking man of average build with black hair and dark eyes flanked by six fully fitted out soldiers.
“I am Rhys Redith captain of the guard here in Avalon. You must be Count Ryan Wyatt.” Rhys introduced himself with the question.
“Yes, I am Ryan Wyatt.” I responded with a frown and knotted brow.
“We have been expecting your arrival. The king has ordered us to assist you and provide hospitality. I am to escort you to the fortress and the rest of your party to Duggan's inn.” Said Rhys with a salute and formal bow.
“That will not do! I have several wards under my care which several are nobility.” I objected to the plan given.
“I was not aware. I will of course take you to the fortress where Lady Ludmilla will address your concerns.” Replied Rhys with a salute and bow then motioned for me to follow.
“Follow him, Jace .” I said to my new driver and climbed into the carriage.
The bridge over the north side of the Paradise River to the island of Avalon was very long at around a quarter mile or so. The readouts of the gatehouse extended a good ways into the river which had several firing positions. I suspected that the river rose and fell with a possible rainy and dry season which was why the readouts could prevent an army from getting behind the gatehouse or access to the bridge from land. The island side gatehouse was flush with the city walls and protruded into the river was equally as impressive with a descent sized recessed portico and draw bridge porch extension.
Thinking back to my travels through Europe, I decided Avalon looked like the city of East Looe, Cornwall in England but not as topographically elevated and with more renaissance style architecture than back on earth. The Roman style arched bridge was very much what we just rode across. The fortress of Avalon itself was at the highest point which was off to the left on the far east side of the island and most up stream point on the islands.
The Fortress keep was decent but still half the size of Duke Boasag's Buanna. I realized that the reason for putting my servants at an inn was because of the lack of space. However, I was determined to stay with my wards no matter the violation of etiquette it might cause. As my carriage pulled up to the entrance with the fortress that had both iron gates and metal reinforced wooden doors that were a good six feet wide and twelve feet tall each. These doors were set into no less than a three foot thick wall.
Passing through the gate was a small bricked paved courtyard that was about forty to fifty feet wide in a more or less oval shape. I saw a host of servants and two well dressed ladies waiting at the main doors to the fortress's central keep.
“Lord Wyatt, welcome to Avalon. I am Viscountess Ludmilla Skafhoggr and this is my mother Baroness Grogda Wode.” Stated a quiet plump pretty faced brown haired woman in a gaudy yellow with purple accented dress with unicorns all over it and a matching unicorn hat whose horn protruded a good foot from her forehead.
“Yes, it is a very deep pleasure to meet you as well.” Stated Lady Grogda a good looking woman who seemed to be in her mid to late thirties with black hair and unusual olive colored eyes. Her lite brown dress was quiet plain compared to her daughter's which was kind of comical in their contrast.
“The pleasure is mine for sure in meeting you ladies.” I said pouring it on a bit thick with a formal bow and sweep of my arm.
“I do not understand. Why are all your people with you?” Lady Ludmilla asked looking toward Captain Rhys but speaking to me.
“I have many wards under my protection. Thus, it is impossible to leave them alone without my presence as there are many who would try and take advantage of helpless young girls.” I stated but that failed miserably when Freya and the other three Asgardians approached fully armed with their swords.
“I would hardly call them helpless!” Spat Lady Grogda with a bit of contempt as the Asgardians were better looking than her.
“Despite appearances, they need my protection. After all, I am their guardian as I freed them from captivity.” I responded with a bit of admonishment in my voice.
“Yes, we have heard the tale. You are quiet the knight in shinning armor.” Lady Ludmilla said with obvious sarcasm.
“It is what it is. The wards will be with me wherever I am. If that is at an inn or camping on the side of the road, so bit it.” I stated with irritation.
“Do not be silly. We can host your wards and personal attendant. However, we must insist that the rest stay in the inn over there.” Lady Ludmilla said pointing to a three story building that was about fifty yards away.
“That is closer than expected. However, I accept. My people can stay at the inn while you host me and my wards.” I stated with another formal bow.
“Good, now come and we will see to your comfort.” Lady Ludmilla said with a bit of a laugh with Lady Grogda giving a small laugh and a wicked grin.
I immediately turned to Lars, Razor and Meowth and ordered that they maintain a watch on the carts and carriage around the clock as I did not want any lapse where someone would try to take advantage. I called to the wolf kin brothers to continue to protect the girls inside the fortress. Pointing to Lars, I told him to take our prisoner Andros to the adventure's guild office and turn him over and letting them know he was caught trying to steal from me. Let them know I will see them on morrow to see if Andros was telling the truth or just lying. Turning with a smile and motioned to Freya and the girls to follow me with Gus right behind me.
The inside of the fortress was decently furnished though it had more of the appearance of a military outpost than a holding of wealth as it looked quiet spartan. I was led to an upper chamber where Lady Grogda had already ordered a bath filled by the time we had arrived.
“I will see to you personally” Lady Grogda stated with that same wicked grin again.
I suddenly felt as though I was a piece of meat put on display before a hungry wolf. I steeled myself to not recoil as I just felt off with this lady.
“See to your master's baggage.” Lady Grogda ordered Gus who was surprised by the command.
Gus gave me a slight shaking of his head and left the chamber. Lady Grogda then proceeded to strip me with efficiency. Once I was naked, she suddenly took her time looking at my nakedness. She even traced my scars on my back with a click of her tongue. Walking over to the tub, I climbed in and sat down.
“Spoil sport” Said Lady Grogda as she grabbed a wash cloth.
“Do not get my wounds wet.” I said warning Lady Groda of what the doctor had told me.
“Why? Your wound is almost well healed. The stitches can be pulled out except here” Stated Grogda and tapped me on my left shoulder blade.
“I have been using a special salve from the high elves. I did not realize it was healing that fast. However, I was warned that getting my wound wet would effect my healing.” I repeated what Doctor Zalzwarth told me.
“Very well.” Groda conceded.
Lady Grogda began washing me where she was absolutely taking her time. It was obvious that she was deliberately feeling me up for her own pleasure. When she grasped my manhood. I stood up and said, “The water is cold and I am tired and hungry!”
“Humph” Pouted Lady Grogda her displeasure but began to rinse me.
Just as I was stepping out of the tub, Gus entered slightly out of breath as he had run to get my clothes with Lukas my footman helping. I sighed with relief as Gus helped me don my dressing gown.
“Old Maude will be here momentarily to apply your salve.” Gus said with a salute.
“Very good.” I replied to Gus then turned to Lady Grogda and said, “I was told you are a Dowager Baroness. Is that not so?” I blatantly asked appearing as innocent as I could.
“I will see you at the dinner bell hour.” Lady Groda said with a sort of half wave salute and stormed out of the chamber in a huff.
“Thank you, Gus. I actually thought I would have to literally fight to save my personal honor.” I remarked with a laugh.
“It was my pleasure, Lord Wyatt.” Gus responded and joined me in laughing.
Old Maude came about twenty minutes later and applied my salve and chatted about how excited she was to be in Avalon and wanting to visit one of the apothecary shops. I gave her permission but have one of the guards accompany her.
About an hour later and I was fully shaven and dressed, I heard a large bell ringing from a bell tower not far away from my chamber. With that, I headed down to the great hall that was just off the main entrance way. I was met by Lady Ludmilla who escorted me to Viscount Skafhoggr chair where she seated herself to my left. Lady Grogda appeared wearing a new pink dress and seated herself to my right. The one missing was the Viscount.
“Where is Lord Skafhoggr?” I asked Lady Ludmilla with a raised eyebrow.
“He is meeting with one of the military commanders. I believe they are deciding on how large a levy they must raise to battle the bastards of Mardor.” Replied Lady Ludmilla as she clapped her hands for servants to begin serving the evening meal.
Four exhausting hours later, I was back in my chamber with my nerves completely shot. The constant fawning and mindless chatter from Lady Ludmilla as well as the constant groping from Lady Grogda under the table had stained me to the max. I was ready for bed and was glad to sink into the lavender scented sheets. Gus grabbed a thin pallet and two blankets. Blowing out the candles he stepped into the hallway closing the door behind him. He would outside my door as custom demands while traveling.
A little over a half an hour later after Gus left, the door opened and closed quickly. I could not see in the darkness but relaxed when Freya spoke softly and slipped into bed with me. Freya did her magic on me as she mounted me taking me to new heights of pleasure. I quickly forgot all about the overly eager pursuit of the Dowager Baroness as I shared the pleasures of being with Freya. After we had sated ourselves completely, we slept peacefully in a loving embrace.
The morning came with a knock on my door that woke both Freya and I. I moaned but Freya nudged me on the chin.
“Time to wake you lazy bones.” Freya said with a laugh.
“I am not a morning person.” I said with a groan.
“Don't I know it! You were quiet the beast were you not?” Freya teased then laughed at me.
The knock on the door was more instant as I rose and put on my dressing gown. Opening the door slightly was Gus and the Dowager Baroness.
“It is early, what is it?” I asked.
“We have prepared a very special meal for you this morning.” Said Lady Grogda with a frown while she tried to look around me into the chamber.
“I see. Well, give me some time to properly dress and I will be down shortly.” I stated and continued to Gus “Have Lukas bring my shaving kit.”
“Right away, Lord Wyatt.” Gus said as he motioned down the hall where I assumed Lukas was.
About forty five minutes later and having snuck Freya out of my chamber, I was fully shaved and dressed in my dark red outfit and black beret hat that actually looked really good on me. Upon entering the great hall, I saw Lady Ludmilla seated. Lady Grogda taking me by the arm led me again to the Viscount's chair where she seated herself next to me.
“Where is Lord Skafhoggr, Lady Ludmilla?” I asked her directly.
Lady Ludmilla was quiet for a moment then said, “I guess he is sleeping. The meetings with the military commanders drag on for hours and hours. I hardly ever see him these days.” Lady Ludmilla said with a shrug of her shoulders.
“Is that so. Very well as it can not be helped. Please send my regards to Lord Skafhoggr for his hospitality. I was informed that the king would have a messages for me that Lord Skafhoggr was to give me. Could you ask Lord Skafhoggr for them?” I asked as I suspected something was just not right.
“Oh. Ah. I will of course ask my Lord Vincent for the king's message once morning meal is finished.” Lady Ludmilla said and looked discombobulated.
“I see. Please do so. The king ordered me to arrive in Camelot immediately. I can not dally and spend extra time as I normally would do. I hope you understand.” I said making extra emphasis on the king's order part.
“Yes. What the king commands we all must obey.” Lady Ludmillas said sourly but not looking at me.
Lady Ludmilla then clapped her hands and the servants brought in the morning meal. What surprised me was my meal was different from everyone else. Looking at both Lady Ludmilla and Lady Grogda something in the back on my head screamed warning warning.
The silver plate before me was a type of stew with a strong overpowering spice scent. I frowned and began to think hard and fast.
“This is a specialty from the High Valley region. I hope you like it.” Lady Grogda said with no expression at all.
My alarm bells went off even stronger this time. A footman came over to fill my cup which I deliberately knocked over and profusely apologized for my clumsiness.
“You know, I am from the High Valley region too. I have never been a fan of overly spiced foods. Lets see how spicy it is.” I stated and took a scoop with a spoon and handed it to the footman to taste.
The footman was surprised but more than happy to taste the food as it was obvious that food for the staff was very plain and simple.
“You should not do that! It is not right!” Lady Grogda said as she stood up showing more alarm than outrage.
The footman had already consumed the sample where he at first looked like he liked it. However, he suddenly started to choke as his face turned bright red and falling to his knees. Lady Ludmilla stood up in horror as the footman was gagging begging for water. I handed him my silver chalice with what I assumed was apple cider where he chugged it down then begged for more.
Finally, after three more cups of water given by another footman, first footman just lay on his back almost in a stupor. It was as if his mind was blank.
“What is this?” I asked as I pointed to my meal looking at both Lady Ludmilla and Lady Grogda.
“I do not know!” Said Lady Ludmilla looking at her mother with a strange look.
“Do not give me that! What did you do?” I demanded with a my voiced raised and now pointing my finger at them.
“It was a love potion. It was to make you like me.” Said Lady Grogda meekly and looking sheepishly at the ground.
“Seriously! That was more than a simple love potion!” I yelled my outrage.
“I swear that is all it was. I had to hide its not so pleasant taste with spice.” Lady Grogda stated her defense but still not able to look me in the eye.
“Lady Ludmilla, I must now ask that you bring me the king's message as I am now leaving Avalon.” I commanded with rage in my countenance.
Lady Ludmilla fled the great hall without replying. Lady Grogda just sat down with her head down looking at the floor saying nothing.
With exasperation, I called out to my people. “House of Wyatt, Ladies and girls we are leaving! Quickly gather your things and be out front within a little span!”
With that, I stormed out of the great hall to the shock of all present. Up in the guest chamber, I changed clothes into my bluejeans, a blue shirt and a tan leather vest. Pulling on my boots and strapping on my weapons belt, I looked over seeing Gus and Lukas already packed up my discarded clothing and was ready to leave as they were staying clear of my angry outbursts.
Down at the carts, I ordered my guards to ready themselves to leave. I sent Lukas to call all the servants in the inn to be ready to leave immediately. Razor and Meowth jumped down from their perch on the first two carriages with questioning looks.
“They tried to poison me! Can you believe it?” I said angrily as I swept my arm to point at the fortress.
“Meow Lord Wyatt, that is clawful. Do you want meow to use them like a scratching post?” Asked Meowth as her tail went straight in what I assumed was either surprise or anger.
Razor just gave a low grumbling growl with teeth bared as he looked at the fortress.
Forty minutes later as my people were loading up, Lady Ludmilla approached with her head down.
“I am sorry Lord Wyatt. It seems you do not have any messages from the king.” Lady Ludmilla said never once looking me in the eye.
“I see. Send a message to the king that I left Avalon today and as commanded traveling as quickly as I can. The king is expecting my update so make sure it is properly sent!” I said with a warning.
I ordered a florse saddled for I needed fresh air as I was still furious. I actually led our people out and toward the main north south road which Nick panicked a bit and settled with riding next to me. As we approached the main crossroads of the city, I saw a large dinning hall and ordered a halt for all of our people to have breakfast. The meal consisted of roasted mutton, eggs, apple pancakes and apple jam. They also had fresh chilled milk and apple cider which really went well with the sweet dishes. Our group apparently cleaned them out and they had to turn away a few customers until mid day.
After breakfast, I went to the adventurer's guild that was a few buildings to the south. It was a four story building of decent size. I allowed Old Maude with a one of the house guards to go to the apothecary shop across the road along with the two Alphardian servants Aura and Sylvia. Inside the adventurer's guild, I asked for Marine as instructed. It was then I learned that Marine was Zack Talley's girl where they were to marry soon as she proudly let me know her good news.
“Zack said to tell you this is a level one escort. Whatever that means.” I repeated what Zack had told me to say.
“Thank you. It simply means Zack thinks there would be no problems and just being present is enough to discourage any potential thieves. The total is two hundred fifty denari for basic escort with an A ranked adventurer.” Marine said with a smile
After paying the fee for the job request, I asked Marine to speak to someone about Andros that was brought in by man guard Lars.
“I am Supervisor Etan Borg and assistant to Guild Master Henry Stewart. It is a pleasure to be at your service Count Wyatt..” Stated Etan with a salute and bow.
“Pleasure is mine.” I replied with a salute and nod of my head.
“We have investigated Andros. His party the Finders of Avalon specialize in retrieving lost items or stolen goods from thieves. It appears his party was specifically requested to recover a lost ventu volpis. We do not have any more details for the job other than this.” Etan stated as he read from a page in his hand.
“Who hired them to steal from me? Make no mistake, they were hired to steal from me!” I said as I was showing my anger and frustration.
“Normally, we would not disclose who posted job requests to those not apart of the contract. However, given the circumstances, I was instructed to tell you it was Viscountess Lady Ludmilla. It seems she contracted and paid a merchant from Xanadu for a ventu volpis. It is our understanding that merchant was placed on a Quenya trade ship where he will go on trial for his many crimes in Svarta. The Finders of Avalon should not have tried to take your ventu volpis. Nor should they have taken on the job given the crimes of the merchant without more information.” Etan explained what the guild knew.
“What will happen to Andros?” I asked frankly.
“The Guild Master will hold a hearing with S and an A ranked members who will advise on the issues. I expect he will be found guilty but will escape the ten year punishment. More like one to two years of labor for the guild doing low ranked jobs that no one wants while being supervised by myself or a C ranked or higher adventurer. His pay will be one third of normal with the rest going to repay the guild or costs associated with his lapse in judgment.” Etan replied with a shrug of his shoulders.
“I see. The thing that irks me is they attacked my people and wounded one of my guards with a slinger's stone.” I explained my outrage.
“I was not aware of this fact. Master Stewart will compensate you as the law requires. Unfortunately, Master Stewart left for Camelot for meeting with the war counsel on Astria's response to the Empire's latest invasion. I will send a filoxis to let Master Stewart know that there was injury, offense and honor requirements. I understand you will be traveling to Camelot and am certain Master Stewart will seek you out to give you a formal apology and see you are properly compensated.” Etan stated with a salute and bow.
“Good enough. Let me know the outcome of the hearing for Andros. I do not like loose ends and a potential enemy looking for revenge.” I said mater of factually.
“Understood. I will relay your concerns to Master Stewart. Etan replied with another salute and bow.
Leaving the adventure's guild, I decided to visit the tradesman's guild and merchant's storefront while Old Maude was still busy across the street. The girls came with me as they had been requesting things like combs, brushes and scented oils plus a few other special feminine items they needed.
Once all the girls got what they were needing and getting those items stowed with their baggage, Old Maude came back with a small crate filled with items to make medicines. While the baggage was being loaded and sorted, I went to see the information broker's desk and inquired about Chamberlain Robert Duffy. I paid the requested fee of one erythro given his status in the city. I was shown a file which listed the qualities, character and known habits of Robert. There was a section about vices and food preferences. The only vice was seeing a woman who was a widow listed as a paid mistress. Basically, Robert was a straight as an arrow honorable man. I smiled as the report made me feel better about who I was helping.
Finally, with everyone loaded up, we headed out of the city of Avalon over the southern main bridge and gate that was just like the north one but slightly longer with a guard tower protected draw bridge section to let ships pass. After about two hours, I had calmed down enough that I rode in the carriage as was expected of a person of rank. Hello, hello! I ordered 10 Pineward samples on April 12th, and they arrived on April 20th with a free sample, Juniperus! I’ve been looking forward to trying this house, as I’m trying to try out green/forest scents which I otherwise wouldn’t opt for, and I was very impressed by everything I tried. I have broken free of the "Forest Perfume to Christmas Candle" Curse!
10 Pineward samples + a freebie mini sample at the bottom
First of all…the colors of all the samples are so gorgeous! I would say these lasted a decent amount of time, around 4 hours in the Personal Space around me, and many more hours on the skin itself. Many of them did wear a bit closer to the skin. I did struggle with the atomizers at times (sometimes they would just Spurt Liquid in a stream), but no horrific accidents as of yet.
I also want to preface these reviews by saying that I am not the best at attributing which green scents correspond to which notes. A nose in progress…I do think it would be really cool if Pineward ever sold solinotes but for tree components – like fir balsam vs. black hemlock vs. cypress etc. Know that...I made an attempt lol. Anyways, onto the reviews!
Apple Tabac - (fresh red apple, tobacco, fir balsam, rum resin, dried fruits)
This is a dry (not juicy, not sweet) apple with a smoky tobacco lingering alongside it. There’s something almost bitter or waxy here (to me it reads like the skin of the apple) + something alcoholic. The bitterness fluctuates with wear, the tobacco changing its mind on whether it wants to be sweet or harsh. There’s more of that “tingling” from the fir (fresh, green notes tend to present like that to me). The drydown is a bit like a caramel apple, nothing tart, but a hint of that opening apple that never quite fades away, enveloped in an almost chewy caramel! The caramel aspect is definitely from the dried fruits, but somehow on me it can smell a bit BO-like — savory and almost spiced? Something similar happens with Gristmill. Smell faded in about 3 hours. Not my favorite, but I think I will need to retry this in autumn. 2/5
Brokilän - (black hemlock needles, larch cones, sandarac resin, momi, sandalwood, Vietnamese oud.)
Wow I love this one! Fresh light greens with a creamy sandalwood drydown, almost incenselike. It’s resinous and smells like coke when it first goes on. Like a very mentholy, almost sharp green-brown, as if it were fizzy. I normally am not the biggest fan of herbal scents but this balances it in a way to offer a more refreshing, less stale vision of Herbs. After a bit, I get more of the bark of the tree itself, woody and still prickly. Eventually, a sweet, creamy sandalwood comes wafting through, first noticeable from a distance. It takes me by surprise at first, and when I lean closer to my wrist to sniff, I lose the scent. Over time, it melds more with the other prickly woods in the scent, smoothing them out, presenting more cohesively. It was okay in terms of projection, and I found I often caught whiffs as I moved around. The dry down is sandalwood with an almost textural element from the other woody/resinous elements, and a touch of green remaining. Lost projection at around 2-3 hours in but 8 hours later I could still smell it on my skin, I think this is the most long lasting Pineward scent I’ve tried. 5/5
Caravansary - (fir balsam, deer musk, vanilla, black tea, lavender, blue spruce, blue chamomile, treemoss, incense, pinecone mulch, campfire smoke.)*
My partner says this one “smells like a forest garden”. I get a Blue Green vibe from this for sure! It definitely changes a lot with rest. There is something light in the background here, I think it’s the herbs (particularly the chamomile). The musk isn’t overwhelming but it is present and warm. After some wear, I get wafts of this sweet, herbal smell that I find very intriguing! I’m not sure what it is exactly but I was continuously sniffing my wrist in an attempt to smell it again. Maybe it’s the vanilla + chamomile, it seems to only really be present from a distance, making me wonder if it’s being buried under the heavier scents from a closer sniffing distance. It’s a cool, smooth vanilla, in contrast to everything else being warm and a bit prickly! The drydown is a sweet vanilla tea for me. It’s a startlingly bright and punchy scent somehow… the lingering scent of the greens and blues on my clothes feels invigorating, even when on my skin it has dried down to a cozy, gentle scent. Overall, this is a dark, dry, cozy scent, with blue green fispruce bearing the brunt of the work, as deer musk hangs out in the background. It does evoke the feeling of being bundled up in a cozy blanket with a campfire in the background and dark, looming forest around you. It shares some of that tannic smokiness with Murkwood, I would say, but the smoke is less present here, though it does gradually come out more with wear. 5/5
Fanghorn II - (silver fir, moss, lichen, pine needles, wet soil, damp vegetation.)
Damp dirt here, very similar to Murkwood to my nose. I had a hard time distinguishing the various facets of this one, but in comparison to Murkwood, I would say it’s more dark green leaves with dirt and no incense/smoke. It doesn’t change much with rest, or morph much with wear. Very refined tbh, for a forest fragrance, in terms of not being as wild/”in the dirt” as I was expecting. I like this, but I think I prefer Murkwood, as this one is a bit more plain and I can’t smell it as much after a few hours. 3/5
Gristmill - (Cedar planks, sawdust, smoldering logs, edelwood oil, amber, black walnut, mahogany, labdanum.)
So here’s where body chemistry played an interesting role…All of these I tested on myself, but I had my partner try this one as well. On my partner's first application, it smelled like cedar planks with a touch of sweetness that made the perfume very captivating. It was almost like a creamy sandalwood, and the cedar was not very funky at all! I was enjoying this a lot. But then I tried it on myself…this time I got more of the richness of the cedar, but in a way that’s not very fresh…it reminded me more of a storage chest/polished wood. I get a slight motor oil / bbq quality to it as well. After some time, it veers towards a fun and prickly sandalwood, but then immediately I smell like Indian food. I’m not sure how, but even on my clothes, I smelled savory spices. I think my skin can make some scents smell a touch “spiced” or savory but this was one of the extremes! Unfortunately, not a huge fan of how it wears on me but I will be pushing this more onto my partner haha. 2/5 due to body chemistry :(
Hayloft - (hay, lavender honey, crocus, sweet vernalgrass, bison grass, toasted almond, hazelnut, oats, dusty wheat.)
Nutty, sweet, bright, light! Doesn’t change much with rest. This reminds me a bit of an oat-scented body wash, or honey bunches of oats. The honey is really light here, somewhat floral. It’s quite sweet and I can definitely see this as being cloying after some time but it’s a very cozy scent and I will try wearing this more once the weather gets colder. Maybe just not the most "me" scent. 2/5
Icefall - (white grapefruit, blue cypress, maritime pine, juniper, nootka, cedar, sandalwood, seaweed.)
Oooh this one is kind of like a smoky, bitter grapefruit on top of a subtle aquatic base. My partner says it smells like “seaweed, or like a sushi incense, but in a good way”. It is surprisingly more woody than I expected. Occasionally I get a bright whiff of juniper, from a distance. After some wear, there’s a hint of sandalwood (this shy sandalwood pops up in quite a few other Pineward scents!) that comes out to smooth things over, but the grapefruit is still there, though less overtly aquatic. More of those forest greens come through as well, and it compliments the grapefruit quite well, remaining bright and refreshing as a general couple throughout weartime. The drydown is mostly light wood with a touch of grapefruit and a very subtle seaweed smell. If you are afraid of the seaweed note, as I was – don’t be! It’s very approachable here. 4/5
Murkwood - (fir balsam, black hemlock, lapsang suchong, moss, incense, bitter myrrh.)
A very resinous incense, with a touch of sweetness. The incense is dirt-like and smoky (likely the lapsang suchong). There are some very subtle dark bitter greens, and it’s very interesting to smell this layered on top of the deep smoky body, as if a slight relief from the incense. After a bit, the tea flavor strengthens and it gets a bit sweeter, as the prickly fir scent dissipates. The incense is not the most clear smelling (it doesn’t outright read as an incense perfume to me, because there is so much going on), but I really adore all the layers in this and find it fun to wear. 4/5
Noki - (lychee, mango, mint, rhubarb, cassis, sandalwood, ambergris.)*
I found this one really benefits from some rest! When I first tried it on, it was a very watery, sweet mango, and I found the mint was kind of muddling it? The combo of lychee and mango was not very apparent but it was juicy and bright in a general sense. After resting, it was less watered down. It became more of an almost unripe mango + bright lychee, tempered by mint, with a touch of tartness and green from rhubarb and cassis, not overwhelmingly sweet but with a fun tart poppiness. Something (I suspect the mint, still) is keeping this from reaching its full Juicy Sweet potential, but as an avoider of the Cloying, i find this works in the perfume’s favor. The drydown is a sweet mango + creamy sandalwood, it doesn’t morph much. I can smell the sandalwood better from further away, as it’s a bit subtle. Very intriguing, will be wearing this a ton in the summer! 4/5
Velvetine - (ambergris, cypress, vanilla, clove, labdanum, fir.)*
Thank god the clove isn’t overly strong here! (Not the biggest clove fan). On first sniff, I get something akin to deep, dried red fruits, something a bit herbal. It reminds me a bit of dried fruit leather, with maybe a touch of honey. I’m not sure whether I think of it more as “fruit leather” (like the snack) or “fruit Leather” (like leather which is kinda fruity) because both can apply here. More of the forest aspect of the scent reveals itself as the perfume dries, and it seems very subtly smoky to me? I’m wondering if that’s the cypress. It’s cuddly, not smothering, but there’s an intriguing “cool” aspect to this, which I definitely did not see before resting. After a bit, the overtly fruity leather combo gives way to a more vanilla backing, and it becomes this cuddly, clear vanilla with some of the lightly smoky greens. There’s a slight tartness from the opening but it’s much smoother and…velvetine now! The dry down is a warm vanilla. Simple and comforting, I’m not huge into the opening but really like the drydown. 4/5
Juniperus - (Juniper Berry, Lemon Peel Absolute, Rosemary, Juniper Scale, Lavender, Juniper Wood, Sandalwood, Patchouli)
The free sample that came with my order! I was a bit scared as I am not the Biggest fan of lemon notes especially. When I first applied it, it was certainly a bright lemon, on the base of something light and almost cucumbery. Luckily for me, the lemon soon faded and gave way to a creamy green scent. It’s a bit of a light, simple scent but I enjoyed it and found it refreshing on these warm spring days. That said, it didn’t change that much with rest, and I found it to be the least long lived out of everything I tried. 3/5
Overall, I had a good experience with Pineward! It was interesting to see that common thread connecting many of these fragrances. In particular, Brokilän, Caravansary, Fanghorn II, and Murkwood all had those shared resinous + green components that required me to think about how to describe them in relation to each other, otherwise the descriptions would all sound the same coming from me! I would say if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Brokilän, but I also find myself reaching towards Caravansary, Noki, and Murkwood! Perhaps the weather is also the reason for that…I’m really looking forward to trying other Pineward scents in the future, and seeing what else they come up with.

Help - Mowed New Sod Too Short
New Kentucky blue grass sod was laid 3 weeks ago. Roots have been taking to soil. Had regular irrigation and looked great. Made sure to set the height on the front of the mower to max height, but forgot to raise the rear. Worried I cut the grass too low and damaged it. There are some light brown areas now. Current height is about 2.5 inches. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I know this is a big ask, but I'm hoping someone here can advise me on structuring the overhaul of my one-acre property, which is currently overrun with invasives. It's gotten completely out of control, first due to my ignorance and then to several years of chronic illness, but now I'm ready to start the process of taking charge. Due to being out of commission for a long time, I'm extremely light on cash and friends, lol, so I'll have to do the work myself, but I'm feeling capable, if a little overwhelmed. I also have wicked ADD, so I know I need to start with a general plan or else I'll immediately get "overstimied" and give up or else get lost in the quicksand of "procrastivity." :)
Below is a list of the infections my property is facing, and below that is a list of potted natives I have waiting to replace the invasives. (My understanding is that I should plant something native immediately after removing an invasive so that something noxious doesn't move into the empty space.)
I would really, really appreciate any advice you guys have on timing, prioritizing, methodology, or anything you think will be helpful. <3
I'm in Eastern Massachusetts, in the Gulf of Main Coastal Plain ecoregion (https://bplant.org/region/807); I have a full array of sun-exposure areas, from full shade to full sun; my soil is not the best since I've only just started working on it by topdressing with compost and sheet mulching where I can, but it's benefited from not being OVER-worked, at the least. I purchased a bottle of triclopyr (Bonide's Stump-Out Stump and Vine killer), but so far all I've done is stare nervously at it.
INVASIVES
I have just finished taking down all of the FLOWERING garlic mustard. Now I have:
  1. non-flowering (first year?) Garlic Mustard - a concentrated 25-square-foot area; allelopathic but at least I have another year before they flower
  2. Oriental Bittersweet - massive infestation, it is literally everywhere; honestly it is the only thing holding my shitty fence together, haha, but I know it's gotta go before it sets fruit again
  3. Multiflora Rose - four large bushes
  4. Honeysuckle Bush - three large bushes
  5. Japanese Barberry - one giant bush that was presumably planted by landscapers 10+ yrs ago and then 4-5 small volunteers throughout the yard
  6. Tree of Heaven - 2 tallish, 2 small; the canes of these are no more than an inch thick, so at the very least I can cut them back, even if I'm not able to dig them out
My property also has four mid-sized White Mulberry trees, a crap-ton of purple irises, and an endless ocean of Vince and Lily of the Valley, but I didn't include them in this list because those seem the least offensive, unless you think otherwise.
NATIVES
I either received these as free leftovers from a plant sale I volunteered at or dumpster-dove them from the garden center where I work, so it's a big hodge-podge, but I'm not in a hurry for anything to look put together; aesthetics here are tertiary to supporting wildlife and filling in spaces to suppress invasives. (* indicates a seedling or young plant, otherwise they're mature plants.)

I am an artist.

Sigh, at least it’s not more catgirls. I don’t even draw them well.
I stretched briefly before starting this one, my arms reaching as far as they could go behind me as I leaned back in my chair. And then my neck, back and forth, side to side, crick and crick.
20 feet away, 20 seconds, every 20 minutes, I mantra’d, looking about the office, surveying the heads above the computer screens, dutifully doing all sorts of art. My eyes met briefly with Bill and we shared something of a nod. Why was he looking at me? Eh, I was looking at him.
I turned back to my work, and began drawing on the screen. It offered me a sort of imprint of what various image gen models would have done across multiple instances. With this heat map, almost as part of my process, I can nearly always imagine some ghost of a previous key work existent - a sort of platonic form of wizard schoolgirls, or maybe an amalgamation of the forms of both schoolgirls and wizards? Who knows. Whoever pioneered the sorcery and teenagers combo must’ve done well for themself.
I began filling in the inverse and emptier spaces with basic sketches of where I’d place each wizard schoolgirl, making sure there were multiple armchairs and sofas (four and 2, yeah, that feels decent). And I’d do something interesting and move these two behind the others, maybe they’re even twins, or is that a common trope and I’ll lose creativity points?
Huh. Somebody thought this first and then drew it, or maybe the artist even then was contracted? Who knows. I started making more aggressive lines, quickly placing each face. Maybe this one’s face is covered with her hair and this one is blonde but she’s dyed her hair black. And to be bold, this one has a ponytail.
Will I make an ‘unattractive' one? I pondered for a moment...
nah, they say they don’t, but it definitely gets penalized.
On returning pen to screen my hand was a bit too ambitious and malpracticed across the page (one benefit, I suppose, is I do get exposed to quite a few more words than I used to). But this was fine, since the pen had a built-in ‘undo’ tap.
Of course, AI tools made drawing so much easier, but that was before we realized each little shake of the artists’ lines were that much more information to train with, and no this can’t be gamed with arthritis, it’s more nuanced than just arthritic artists.
It’s hard not to be somewhat conscious of this sort of nuance to my pen-stroke, especially as I start thinking about it. So I thought about it as I traced the sofas, and awkwardly tried-not-to-consciously-do-normally-subconscious-things-but-also-is-this art that I’m doing now? Hmm… I thought about it, a weird new style of consciously doing everything you normally leave to the subconscious, by intention… and maybe this even has value in the lines produced, ah whatever, just draw the Asmodean schoolgirl uniforms. Time is passing and I pull up some reference material.
Soon I’m adding details, lamenting the inability to just paste on faces for these girls, but whatever they probably all look rather same-y and simple across the genre and etc. so I sort of just cheat and rush through this part. I make a couple lines more scraggly for good measure, and one of the girls turns out looking a bit… queasy? Sorry, I thought to the poor queasy girl. Ah well, the prompt didn’t really specify more and I get paid by byte of info. More importantly, I need to meet my daily quota.
They had to put a quota, of course, since the artists would just keep waffling about all day! As opposed to being smart like doctors and optimizing for the number of patients seen. And, of course, I think it’s much too fast, but I would think that, wouldn't I.
Now I’m adding some background detail and rather fearfully trying to make that at least a little interesting with what time I might have left, as priorities clash, but I’m more or less finishing up and soon sending it to some poor sop to color. Speaks a lot for my work, I guess, that I feel bad for whoever receives it. Sigh. Adds further diversity, apparently, to mix up contributors, and training data is paramount so I shouldn’t feel that poorly really, that’s not the point. In any case, I’m glad I don’t have to do more experimental work, mixing artists on a piece, yuck. But maybe that’s the way we’re headed.
I take a step back from the piece and sanity check it for a moment, cleaning up my wizard schoolgirls as best I can to be prim and proper, and counting them like a school mistress might on a trip. Maybe it’s like I just took a group picture. I look back to the prompt and - shit! Forgot library. And I hurriedly start drawing book spines of gibberish on a shelf that emerges from the back wall.
Luckily, we haven’t run out of content yet, twelve schoolgirls is quite different from eleven and I could have even been so bold (dumb) as to do an armchair and sofa per schoolgirl! Though I have been known to be an afficionado of mixing mediums, so I’ve got some room for pleasure with new styles. Maybe someday they’ll value more quality data over quantity and filling out this odd possibility space. But I fear that maybe that’s not something that I can even do.
Unfortunately, I never quite keep to my 20 minute cycle, whatever that means for my eyes (bad). I look at the prompt again, I look at my drawing… sanity check number two passed, good enough for me. Now, why anyone would want,

I don’t know. But I guess I get the bigger picture. I actually rather enjoy some part of the process, the human injection is like an iterative challenge. What are all the norms you are trying to subvert without getting meaningless? Even as I struggle with time constraints - to innovate is to be a little guinea pig chompin at the water bottle thingie between wheel runs.
And certainly thank goodness I don’t deal with text! I’ve heard those guys go crazy and just start to babble after some time, although a few people seem to really enjoy that. No, I just get my next prompt,

Well that’s a spoiler for the fifth book in the Dune series for anyone who searches that up for reference. And after thinking for a moment, meh, I spent one of my few rerolls.

I count in my head... Isn’t this missing a dwarf? … and what the heck is sonder?
And so, I stretched again and looked out across the office of artists. Bill was looking at me again - man we are on the same schedule today, huh. I tried to work a bit faster or slower this cycle.

Hello everyone,
Unfortunately, my previous post was deleted for some unknown reason (I think it was due to a mistake on my part, haha), but with the help of your great tips and advice, I think I've almost finalized my tour through Washington State. I would love to get your final advice on this trip before we start booking ;).
Some background information: For us, it's the first time in this area, so everything is new to us. You might notice immediately that we haven't included any cities in the itinerary. This is because we are not really interested in city visits and usually end up disappointed when walking through American cities, haha. We prefer to spend our time in nature and national parks. Besides visiting the highlights, our daily activities mainly consist of hiking trails, with no limit on the number of kilometers or difficulty level, as long as we can do it in one day. We are not fans of camping and therefore stay in hotels, etc. Advice on beautiful trails in this region is very welcome.
A few questions in advance:
  1. Which trail is the most beautiful: Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm or Desolation Peak Trail via Ross Lake?
  2. Due to a shortage of hotels, we are staying 3 nights in Packwood to explore Mount Rainier, is this feasible?
  3. Any additional activity suggestions?

Biography

Mace Blacktyde was born into House Blacktyde, a once-proud lineage among the Ironborn, renowned for their seafaring prowess and fierce loyalty to the Drowned God. He grew up amidst the salty winds and crashing waves of the Iron Islands, surrounded by tales of conquest and glory. But told from the eaves of old, broken men. The dragonfire stole what true pride any Ironborn could fetter up from their abysmal depths. From a young age, Mace showed promise as a warrior, displaying a natural talent for swordplay and a keen mind for strategy. A promising yet hollow future for anyone born in the Islands during their sequestering. While many fled the Islands, he and his family remained. However, his life took a drastic turn when the Westerlands launched brutal assaults on the Iron Islands. House Blacktyde, like many others, suffered greatly. Mace, then in his late teens, witnessed his house's fortunes plummet from lofty heights of wealth and power to the depths of destitution and despair. The once formidable coffers and vaults of Castle Blacktyde were emptied, leaving behind a hollow shell of its former self. At the culmination of this dark hour; he drowned.
This period of upheaval and loss left an indelible mark on Mace's psyche. It ignited a fire within him—a fierce determination to reclaim what was lost and restore honor to his house. Empowered by his youth, Mace's resilience and resourcefulness became apparent as he navigated the chaos of total upheaval. Like many, his eyes focused on distant Essos. Once he could recover what ships and able bodies; and willing souls that the Drowned God had not yet claimed - he set out to reave. It was during these perilous journeys that Mace truly came into his own. He honed his skills as a captain and fighter, earning a fearsome reputation among both friend and foe. Each successful raid brought back spoils, wealth, and knowledge of distant lands and cultures. This ignition of such fervency drove him deeper into the mythos of his religion, his culture. He took a salt wife of a bested adversary. Then drowned again.
However, his newfound success did nothing for the man as an individual, Mace's heart remained tied to Blacktyde. With each return to his homeland, he brought with him treasures and stories of his exploits, with the hope to reignite the flames of prosperity of a bygone age. His efforts, ultimately, were met with greed and dissatisfaction. House Blacktyd's leadership, the main branch. Though not many they still possessed the maxim of what little social power that an Iron Islander could possess after what the West did to them; and of course they craved more. The stories of old, provoked within them the so-called Old Ways. And by that; Mace suffered. This time he would not drown. When met with conflict of greed, as unsustainable as it was, he took his wife and now child away from Blacktyde. Away from his home. Away from his identity.
A year passed on the water, independent, sailing, from port and jetty. A hard year. That is when he found the Blue Sails, and people who were at least familiar to him, welcoming to his kind. Though he is rough to fit in, he understands that this way means life, while the old way only lead to death.

2024.05.19 21:45 kdestroy 20 Amano Shrimp gone over night

I’ve got a new 75 gallon set up and cycled and it’s stocked with 3 clown plecos, 2 powder blue dwarf gouramis, 30 ember tetras, 3 panda garras, and 8 sae’s. I had 20 amano shrimp and they’ve disappeared over night. I was wondering if one of these species could’ve possibly eaten them or if they maybe got sucked into the filter intake? Has anyone had this happen before? I checked the water daily for the past month and the parameters have all been good the entire time.
