Propane Tank Issue?

2024.05.20 04:42 kronik_89 Propane Tank Issue?

I had a first this evening and was wondering if anyone else has seen this or thought what might have caused it.
Went to fire my grill up for a couple steaks and the flame coming off the burners were extremely small. Like I was out of propane small. But I knew I should have had plenty. I turned the burners off and closed the valve on the bottle in case I had a leak somewhere so I could investigate. Bottle was full, I reopened and didn't smell a leak. Reignited the burners and all was well.
Anyone ever seen this?

2024.05.20 02:39 HungrySleepyJ Free propane grill and fire pit

Free large propane grill and propane fire pit in alley behind N Raleigh St and 48th. Grill is in good condition, just needs a bit of scrubbing. 4 burners and a side broiler. Fire pit is a bit rusty. Both came with our house and haven’t been used by us.
I’ll add a comment when they are gone. Propane tanks not included.

2024.05.20 00:47 Ok-Comedian-4571 What I learned from a 72-hour power outage

So darling girl (we'll call her Amy) had a taste of life when SHTF this week after the power was cut off to our rural cabin for 3 days straight.
Sadly, I'm more of an armchair prepper than a hands-on guy, plus I was away on business so wasn't much help. Lack of electricity also meant the electric pump to our artesian well didn't run so Amy had no power AND no running water.
Most of the lessons we've learned will be pretty obvious to you guys as experienced Preppers but I wanted to share what I've learned so you can show this to anyone who says that prepping is only for the paranoid.
I'm also immensely indebted to the TheSensiblePrepper for his awesome 'Power Out Kit List'. You saved our lives, man!
Check your UPS
Living out in the country we're used to temporary power cuts, so I use a laptop with a UPS for work. We also have a Starlink satellite dish for internet. When the power first went down I suggested to Amy that she plug the Starlink router into the UPS to get online, only to find it needed way more juice (1000 VA) than my budget UPS could supply. Naturally I'd have known this if I'd troubled to test the UPS myself with the Starlink system.
Power Banks : Go Big or Go Home
TheSensiblePrepper's recommended Golabs R300 Power Station couldn't be delivered to our cabin, so we went with a Jackery 1000 with a 200W Solar Panel. This is a classic case in point for why prepping is so important as we had to arrange daily deliveries of mini battery packs for Amy's cellphone each day from a local grocery store just so she could charge her cellphone.
Lay in your Logs
It's great having a log fire as we do. We even have a ton of logs out in the shed. Still Amy's health problems prevented her from fetching them to keep the place warm. Naturally I felt terrible as I was thousands of miles away and couldn't do it for her. Lesson learned: If you're going away and your family have mobility issues, make sure they have everything they need to hand!
Network with Neighbors
Some kind neighbors did invite Amy over a meal, shower and to charge her cellphone the first night of the power cut. Still, Amy didn't feel right about asking for more help as she didn't know them well. If we'd taken the time to visit with the neighbors and maybe help out with a few chores we'd have a much better support network around us. Needless to say, we're going to do that in future!
Water Worries
The lack of running water was a huge obstacle for Amy - the poor girl went without a shower for 3 days! The aforementioned kindly neighbors dropped off a few bottles for drinking and some 'gray' water to flush the toilets.
Still, I've since been researching solar pumps for the artesian well which include a backup battery. It's going to be costly to replace the pump altogether but it's better that than be stuck without water.
Currently I'm leaning towards TheSensiblePrepper's suggestion of laying in some stackable water bricks.
Grab some Gas
Although our house is plumbed for gas, it's only used for heating. In a SHTF scenario, it's also unlikely they'll keep pumping. Amazon came to the rescue here once again with the Grill Boss Portable Propane Stove.
I've no idea if this is the best value for money or most efficient stove out there. I do know in future Amy won't have to eat cold beans out of a tin, even if the gas/power goes down.
__
As I said, I'm sure this will seem very obvious to experienced users but if we'd followed the steps in this subreddit sooner, we'd have had a much easier time of it. Perhaps something to share with non-preppers next time they say you worry too much. :-)

2024.05.20 00:01 froggydad Advice on brand and price range for a grill/fridge/sink island please

Advice on brand and price range for a grill/fridge/sink island please
I am new to grills in an island with all the bonuses. I have always had just a regular freestanding grill. But I now have a spot I reserved on my new deck for a 6+ unit and want some more elaborate functionality and better aesthetics. I have been unable to find a lot of guidance - no reviews of brands or options. I have no idea how to know what is good quality without being too much indulgence for a middle class house and budget.
All I see are different retailers like BBQ Guys and Home Depot, without any sense of which brand is best at each, which brands are good for the money, are of a particular quality that makes sense to pay a little more but are not the sort of high end brand meant for much more intense chefs than me that means you are not getting enough features. I just don't even know where to start. At least with free-standing ones, people review brands.
Here's what I *think* I want (again, no articles to offer guidance, so not sure:
1) Great but not top of the line grill 2) Refrigerator under counter 3) Sink maybe on one side of the counter? 4) I am wondering about a side grill on the other side of the counter? 5) Maybe a trash drawer as that seems the tidiest and most safe from animals 6) Ideally a little storage under counter for supplies
I've attached some screenshots of examples I've seen. With no sense at all of their quality or value or even brand reputation.
I don't know if side grills are necessary. How often do most people use them? If they are just for sauces, maybe this is a waste of space and money that I can prepare inside in the kitchen? Is there a way to do veggies right on it instead of in a pan? Can't I just put them on the main grill on a higher rack? All insight or links to articles welcome.
I have seen 6' wide units with most of this, but also 8' might be necessary?
I have seen grills like this at Home Depot for $4,500 but have no idea if they are trash. I am thinking my budget that is realistic for these features is $4,000-6,900. But it may be I have to go up around $8k or a little more for this? BBQ Guys has something like this for $22k, and while I'm sure it's lovely, it's not going to happen.
I like stone bases, but wood is nice too. I like stainless steel grill and fixtures.
Clearly, I know nothing. And want to get something soon; maybe even take advantage of the Memorial Day sales. Please help. Many thanks yous in advance!

2024.05.19 22:17 Seanishungry117 SX-315 price discrepancy on weber site vs retailers

weber link
trying to figure out what's going on here. this grill is listed as $699.99 on webers site, but $869 on a bunch of retail sites. Its not listed on sale on weber's site.
here is home depot for example
Im just worried if I buy this, since there is a large difference in price, weber would just send me the regular S-315 and not the "SX" model.

2024.05.19 19:45 cadet311 Propane vs Pellet grill questions

Hello friends! Long time reader, first time caller here. Seeking your opinions here on a new grill purchase.
We had a propane Charbroil Infrared for about 10 years and it worked well. Got the job done for our regular chicken, burgers, dogs and steaks. It rusted through and we moved on to a Blackstone. Got it on clearance and used it once and sold it. Not a fan of the upkeep on it versus the limited usage it would get.
I am planning to purchase a grill and was planning on a traditional propane but a few pellet grills caught my eye. So I’m here asking questions.
How’s the maintenance on a pellet grill versus a propane grill? Previously I’d burn everything off and clean the grates so maintenance was easy.
If I go pellet, I would need to be able to sear and it seems like that’s possible with some models? We’re mainly a burger, dogs, chicken, steak family so my thought is a pellet might be overkill.
Not a grill warrior, just a dad who likes to cook :)

2024.05.19 16:53 flatfeed611 I have been using the natural gas on my propane Dome, is it dangerous?

When my propane Dome was installed, I had no idea that there was a “natural gas” version, and the guy that was installing it in my home asked if I wanted to have it connected to my house’s gas line. I said sure, it’s a little more convenient than using small tanks, since it’s already there and being using for my gas grill and wok burner. I have no idea how he made it work for natural gas or what type of conversion/mod he did, but that’s the way I’ve been using it for over a year now.
I recently realized that there is a dedicated natural gas version, and was wondering if the way I’ve been using the Dome is potentially dangerous or has any downsides.

2024.05.19 12:25 PornoPichu Trying to pick out first grill…

Hey all. To start, I know I’m in the Weber subreddit, so I’m only really expecting Weber advice. Maybe that’s good, maybe that’s bad. Anyway, I’m trying to pick out a first grill. We just moved into our first home back in October, and my mom is going to gift a grill to us as a housewarming gift; she told me to look around and pick something out. I’ve seen a lot of people outside of this sub suggesting Weber grills as being go-to, so that’s why I’m here. I don’t know what info is relevant, but…
Very new to grilling - I’ve done it once before and massively over cooked some burgers. One other person in the household would also be grilling, and I think he is new, too. We both cook fairly often otherwise, though. There’s 3 of us now, and we do plan to use this as an excuse to invite people over to entertain; something that is a little bigger would probably be ideal. I don’t necessarily think there’s a preference between propane, charcoal, or pellets. Our house is part of an HOA and our neighbor (who is on the board) told me we can get whatever we want, just make sure we get a cover for it. I would like to be able to try smoking things eventually - seeing as I am a newbie, I’m thinking it’s best to focus on just learning to grill first. I saw that a lot of folks say it’s best to avoid a grill/smoker combo and get dedicated things for each instead - I assume this is pretty good advice, too, yes?
I’ll close this out with I’m not exactly sure of the budget. I see people really like the Weber Summit Kamado, for example, but I doubt that’s in our price range. Though I’m pretty sure that something that’s $500-$600 is fine (I’m in the US). I also don’t know if it’s necessarily wise for complete novices to look to drop ~$1250+ on a grill. Any help would be appreciated!

2024.05.19 05:57 ShiftedAurora Gorge camping questions :)

Hello:)
Side note, This will be my FIRST TIME attending a show at the gorge, so I apologize in advance if any of these are obvious.
Very excited for the upcoming show at the gorge! With all the EDC hype it’s been actually quite difficult to find information on this show. I’ve been finding a lot of bass canyons threads, or above and beyond threads but it seems as each show is a little bit unique as far as setup and rules go. Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated, and I hope to see some of you at the gorge this coming up week:)
1- Food situation? So confused on the fact that it seems we CAN bring coolers in, however food needs to be placed in gallon ziplock bags? So do we put them in bags, inside of our cooler? Or do they need to be separated upon entry?
On the same thought, water? The website says only a gallon is permitted? So I cannot bring a 5 gallon water jug for hand washing and what not? How strict are they with this?
2- “Small propane grills welcome” Requirements on this? I have a stove burner that uses a normal size 5 gallon propane tank. It’s only a single burner so does this classify as a small propane grill? Do they allow propane tanks of this size?
3- Camp upgrades. Originally purchased a GA camping pass. I’ve heard some horror stories from bass canyon about the GA pop being quite rowdy, with no regard to the rules. For a show like Illenium, is this going to still be the case? Hoping to upgrade my camping pass but it says the only way to do so is on site during check in. So should we take the premier camping line and expect to upgrade, or do we wait in the GA line and tell them our situation? Has anyone had experience with upgrading your camping pass?
4- Campground opens at 4, is arriving at like 2 or 3pm too early? Or do you shoot for 4 when it opens?
5- ANY OTHER tips, things to watch for, advice or anything at all would be greatly appreciated. (We have lots of stakes for securing our camping items down)
Looking forward to this show, and I’m sure others have some questions as well so feel free to comment them down below

2024.05.19 04:33 ronswansonificator Propane tank warm during grilling

My tank sits under my grill in a cabinet and when I use the grill, it is getting pretty warm. Not so hot I can't rest my hand on it, but it's warm. Is that something I need to be concerned about? I got the grill used, and it had a partially melted spot on the regulator hose. I replaced the hose with a stainless braided hose. I have previously used charcoal so I am not very familiar with gas grills.

2024.05.18 21:32 Reasintper Small Tanks Frosting and evaluating suggestions

I am using a 2 burner vevor forge with 20# propane tanks like one might use with a gas grill or patio heater.
Once the tank gets down to a certain point the outside lower 1/4 of it frost's and eventually the pressure noticeably drops.
I have some thoughts, and have received some suggestions.
  1. Use larger tank like 100# or at least 30#
The cost of a tank seems pretty high, and the idea of schlepping the bigger tanks to get filled in my Prius make me feel as though, this may not be an immediate option. Besides, I currently have 3 tanks dedicated to forge use, and one other available if needs be, since we really only use it for our patio heater at Thanksgiving. So this is a maybe someday, but not right now.
  1. Put the tank in a water bath
I have done similar with canned air. It is messy, and I fear when the weather cools it will be more trouble than it is worth. Now that I am refilling rather than exchanging tanks, I am also not wanting to rust or otherwise damage tanks any sooner than necessary.
  1. Use a bucket warmer "band heater" (like an electric blanket but made for buckets)
I currently don't really have any electricity at the forge. I am also reluctant to have an active heat source associated with a propane tank. It seems wrong and potentially dangerous.
  1. Use a wye or tee to connect 2 or more tanks should reduce the speed of the flow similarly to a larger tank.
This sounds good in an intuitive sort of way. I don't know for sure but it sounds like a good idea. I'd love to hear from someone doing this successfully. Even with the suggested hardware configuration.
Other ideas would be helpful or information/experiences about these would be cool too.

2024.05.18 05:19 lakorai 2024 Camping Gear Memorial Day Deals Megathread (USA)

As promised, The 2024 Memorial Day Camping Gear deal thread is here to help our fellow readers some money for this upcoming holiday break. I have requested the mods keep this post a sticky until June 2, which is when most retailers end their Memorial Day sales. Keep in mind that not all US retailers will ship internationally and any savings you get can be wiped out from import duty, tariffs and taxes from your home country.
Keep in mind inflation has caused many items to have 10-30% price increases as warned by 's post from 2021. Prices will continue to go up as inflation gets out of control, so this could be a better time to buy camping gear than waiting till later in the year.
New for 2024 I am streamlining the deals thread so we can add additional retailers and cut down on clutter. I will list the retailer, example deals and if the retailer participates in cashback sites. Return policy, company background, credit card offers, free shipping etc will no longer be listed as that can be looked up on the retailer's website. This will make the threads appear on less posts and hopefully will flow a bit better. Thanks to several of you who offered this suggestion. I am also adding direct vendor sales as sales start (Marmot, Outdoor Research, Sierra Designs, Outdoor Vitals etc).
This thread focuses on retailers and e-commerce sites in the United States who sell multiple brands, are reputable businesses (ie not scam sites) and they ship and sell to anywhere in the US. I encourage you to check with the vendors directly and to use cashback sites like Activejunky.com and Topcashback.com to save as much money as possible in addition to these links.
Checkout Cashbackholic.com and cashbackmonitor.com to see what cashback sites are offering the highest cashback for whatever site you wish to shop at. Typically activejunky.com is the highest paying cashback site, but sometimes Maxrebates.com , topcashback.com and rakuten.com can be higher.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this sales thread for last year. I hope to have helped save fellow Redditors as much money as possible to help get more people into camping and the Backcountry. If you find additional retailers of note or sales please comment below and I will update this thread.

2024.05.18 02:12 Biffarama Propane line adapter

Propane line adapter
I just purchased a Blackstone 2311 griddle and I'm excited about getting started with it. My issue is that I have a propane line from my house that I've always used with any grill I've had and I'm not sure how to connect it to the female end of the grill's gas connector. I checked with my local hardware store where I bought the griddle but they didn't have anything that would work. Hoping maybe someone here has an idea. Thanks!

2024.05.18 01:38 Nighttrainblue What grill to buy?

Hoping for some advice. I’ve been using a weber kettle (performer with propane starter) for the last 12 years and it’s on its last legs. I’m in the fortunate position at the moment where budget isn’t an issue (which won’t always be the case so want to make the right decision and get something that will last another 12 years).
A few considerations: -I live in Canada and it gets COLD in the winter so would be nice to be able to grill year round. -I do 95% straight up grilling - 2 zone fires, chicken, steak, burgers, fish, veggies. -I mostly cook for 4-6 people but would be nice to be able to accommodate a few more when having people over (my current 22” kettle feels a little small on occasion when I need to cook meat AND veggies simultaneously) -would be nice to have versatility to be able to do low and slow and pizza, though that won’t be my primary -as mentioned, looking for something that will LAST -Maintaining temp has been an issue with my current grill -I need to be able to move it around sometimes, so can’t be too heavy so I think most Kamado are out
I think I’ve narrowed it down to:
-Weber Kamado - Kamado but light enough to move around, and 24”! -Napoleon (Canadian company which is good!) 605 - cart-style charcoal that seems interesting… can add charcoal to the fire easily, can move the fire up and down… -napoleon kettle with cart (22” so small but seems interesting) -anything else?
Thanks!

Triple smash w/grilled and raw chopped onions
This is from Bunz in Huntington Beach, CA. Definitely the best grilled onion/cheese game I’ve ever seen. Not pictured: thick dill slices inside.

2024.05.17 22:34 _cr0001 Koda 16 Natural Gas Conversion Help

Good day fellow pie heads. I have a little predicament with a natural gas (NG) conversion for my Koda 16, and am seeking advice.
I recently added a NG line to our deck, primarily servicing a new Napoleon 500-series NG grill. This new grill included a NG hose and a 1/2 female QC fitting for interconnecting the grill’s NG male QC whip, to the existing 1/2” NG supply line on my deck.
My Ooni is a propane model by default, and I’ve purchased the natural gas conversion kit, only to find inconsistent QC fitting sizes. The Ooni comes with 3/8 QC fittings, which cannot directly connect to my existing 1/2 QC.
Has anyone encountered this, and if so, what was your resolution?

2024.05.17 17:23 Ackchyually_Man A true BIFL grill under $2500

https://www.bbqguys.com/a/24341/learn/bbq/buying-guides/gas-grills/warranty-comparison
I have been considering a new smaller propane grill to compliment my Weber charcoal grill that I use for smoking and chicken.
I wish Weber would make stainless charcoal grills but I'm guessing rust does them a lot of $favors$.
I don't need a huge grill. Just big enough for a couple steaks /tritip and a veggie basket. I was thinking the Coyote 28" C series. The housing and burners have a lifetime warranty and mind you absolutely nothing Weber sells has a lifetime warranty. The problem is, I can find 0 reviews on Coyote grills. A close second consideration is Blaze Prelude 25inch. And I'm kind of bummed their premium line has no small grills. Those grates look THICC.

First time propane user
Hi everyone as the title said I’m a first time propane forge user. I just added the rigidizer and am getting ready to put the refactory concrete over the top. While using the propane to try and dry it out the rest of the way (it’s been humid here) I noticed my forge dosent seem to have the power of other propane forges they seem more like a butane type burner coming out of the burner where mine honesty just reminds me of a grill lol. I feel like I’m doing something wrong I’ve opened both knobs all the way open and then shut on each and everything in between and nothing reallly helped. Anyone have ideas on why it seems so weak?
