Hey, I'm Matty. I've been struggling with loneliness and have been starved from affection for a few years now but recently it's gotten to a point I find kind of scary. I'm 25m with no friends other than a few online ones I can count on one hand. If not, I won't. Built on a 1984 720 chassis brought to the US unfinished to avoid tariffs. It was then sent to a place called Gardner Pacific in Vallejo, California. From what I've found Gardner Pacific made a total of 84 camper backs for Nissan trucks before being shut down for tax evasion. Of the 84, only 1 had the 'limousine' back gate. This is it We bought it about 5 years ago from some gacked out tweaker on Craigslist for $1000. It had to be pulled from a field and towed. It still had a sink and fridge unit, a little set of shelves, and a fold down sleeper couch thing when we got it. It was in REALLY bad shape. I spent about 4 hours going through the engine and managed to get it to barely start and run but the smoke from the pipe literally killed a bush that was near it. Fuel, air, and spark were all compromised in one way or another. We bought a reman engine and swapped in the same stock 2.4 (with 8 plugs) 4 cylinder. Changed brakes, bled fluids and got new tires and she ran like a champ. We lost the sink unit and shelves going around a corner in Truckee, CA a few weeks later. (It literally all collapsed and smashed to the ground.). We put in a futon mattress and set off adventuring for a year and a half. After being in Oregon for a while we cleaned it out completely for the first time in a while and realized we had a LOT of black mold. So we had to tear out all the carpet, wall liners, and the futon (and a bunch of clothes and stuff, sad day) After we gutted it we realized the floor was rotting. Structural repair became a roadblock. She's just been sitting there gutted in my driveway for over 2 years. Today, I decided it was time to start back into the complete renovation of this 17 foot gem. First rotted area cut out and sanded clean. I only cut to the edge of where the fiberglass fill rolls onto the wood. Then I cut a patch of outdoor plywood 2 inches bigger than the hole as a bottom brace. I cut 2 pieces of fiberboard the shape of the hole. Then another patch of 1/4" medium density fiberboard to fit along the edge of the wheel well and side. Then marine grade carriage bolts through the top patch, existing wood, and the bottom patch to squeeze it all together. I'm treating all the wood with polyurethane waterproofing then I'll fill all the cracks with Durham water putty when I assemble it. Same process will be repeated for the other, bigger rotted spot. Then I'll cut panels of the same mdf to create a single floor with even support across the whole thing. Then I'll have to engineer some sort of way to get the back gate back on. Learn how to install boat windows or figure out some way to get the existing windows back in and water tight. Then carpet and wall liners... |

Some history
My agoraphobia developed out of a number of traumatic experiences when I was younger. It has been extremely severe in terms of avoidance. I hadnāt left my rural county in 9 years prior to now.
When I was 12 years old, I got extremely sick in the city (~35 miles from where I live). I had appendicitis, but the doctors at the time could not figure it out. It was too late. My appendix burst and I almost died. I spent 16 days in the hospital and had to withdraw from the remainder of the school year.
This as well as severe panic attacks that I developed afterwards led to me developing agoraphobia, along with PTSD, OCD, and panic disorder. Iāve had to build my entire life around my agoraphobia, missing graduations, weddings, derailed college plans, and losing friends. I always felt left out by missing out on things, and I felt guilty that Iāve deprived my family from experiences with me as a result of it.
I ended up graduating from college mostly by taking classes online from a reputable university. I got two masterās degrees afterwards.
It was found fairly recently (2022 or 2021) that I had a genetic mutation which was preventing my medication from working for most of the time I had been taking it, and I had to start taking L-Methylfolate for it to work.
My brother got engaged in January of last year and they have been planning the wedding for June of 2024.
Recent Events
Iāve been making more of a conscientious effort to do things outside of my comfort zone, and I think part of this has been finding the correct medication. I had never before felt like I could actually ādo it.ā
In October of 2023, I went to somewhere outside of my county with my mom and partner by about ~15 miles and closer to the city. We went to a coffee shop. This was my first time leaving my county since 2015. I was nervous and had to keep getting up to walk around while waiting for our order. I started crying when we pulled into the town outside of my county because I couldnāt believe that I made it.
Iāve had a remote job doing really rewarding work. Just last month, my job had an in-person staff meeting in the city. They knew about my agoraphobia, and there was no pressure for me to attend. My family has likely just got used to excluding me from everything because of my condition. But itās still sort of hurtful, because I feel like I donāt matter as much.

I guess it just sort of hurts that I have been taking these huge steps to try to go, and I canāt even be bothered to be asked to speak or do anything else besides be in the line.

My agoraphobia developed out of a number of traumatic experiences when I was younger. It has been extremely severe in terms of avoidance. I hadnāt left my rural county in 9 years prior to now.
When I was 12 years old, I got extremely sick in the city (~35 miles from where I live). I had appendicitis, but the doctors at the time could not figure it out. It was too late. My appendix burst and I almost died. I spent 16 days in the hospital and had to withdraw from the remainder of the school year.
This as well as severe panic attacks that I developed afterwards led to me developing agoraphobia, along with PTSD, OCD, and panic disorder. Iāve had to build my entire life around my agoraphobia, missing graduations, weddings, derailed college plans, and losing friends. I always felt left out by missing out on things, and I felt guilty that Iāve deprived my family from experiences with me as a result of it.
I ended up graduating from college mostly by taking classes online from a reputable university. I got two masterās degrees afterwards.
It was found fairly recently (2022 or 2021) that I had a genetic mutation which was preventing my medication from working for most of the time I had been taking it, and I had to start taking L-Methylfolate for it to work.
My brother got engaged in January of last year and they have been planning the wedding for June of 2024.
Recent Events
Iāve been making more of a conscientious effort to do things outside of my comfort zone, and I think part of this has been finding the correct medication. I had never before felt like I could actually ādo it.ā
In October of 2023, I went to somewhere outside of my county with my mom and partner by about ~15 miles and closer to the city. We went to a coffee shop. This was my first time leaving my county since 2015. I was nervous and had to keep getting up to walk around while waiting for our order. I started crying when we pulled into the town outside of my county because I couldnāt believe that I made it.
Iāve had a remote job doing really rewarding work. Just last month, my job had an in-person staff meeting in the city. They knew about my agoraphobia, and there was no pressure for me to attend. We lost our beloved, sweet, goofy black lab in Nov. at the age of 14. We now have a 15 week old male black lab pup. Weāve had him for 7 weeks. Heās from champion hunting lines so heās bred to be a hard-charging, high energy field lab. Which is what my husband wanted because he bird hunts. This pup is SO different and SO much moreā¦ intenseā¦ than our last one and Iām worried that maybe we have a problem on our hands.
My husband is retired and home all the time so the new pup (Amos) has a LOT of attention and interaction. Weāve worked on his training since the day we brought him home. Here are the āprosā so far: 1. No hint of separation anxiety 2. Fine in his crate from day one. Never cries or whines in there, slept thru the night from day one - even at 8 wks old. Never had an accident in the crate. 3. We use a playpen for him in our living room to keep him confined to one area so he canāt destroy everything or get into anything that might harm him. He entertains himself on his own in his pen with tons of toys. He doesnāt cry to be let out or have any issues with his playpen or the outside dog run that we sometimes confine him to for a few minutes in the yard so he can be outside without 100% direct supervision. 4. We work on his basic obedience training every day, throughout the day. He knows sit, down, stay, come, leave it, off, and how to shake. He also walks pretty well on a loose leash. 5. He seems very bonded to both me and my husband and loves to lick us and get belly rubs. 6. Heās 98% housebroken. Heās never had a poop accident in the house and only occasionally has a pee accident now - maybe once every 7-14 days - and only if we miss the signals he has given us.
Now for the more concerning issues. 1. He bites. Hard. And he has literally laid open my husbandās hands multiple times. He was HORRIBLE with this the first few weeks (he came from a large litter) and weāve worked hard on it. Heās much better with the frequency, but heās still very mouthy and still gets sudden bouts of extreme snappiness regularly and we have to constantly correct him for it. Nothing we have tried has worked. Weāve tried probably 5 or 6 different procedures from different online trainers. Nothing seems to work with him. What is the most concerning to us is sometimes when heās acting up and weāre trying to calm him down or get him back under control, he lunges and snaps at us and tries to bite, often delivering a hard bite. I keep reading this isnāt true āaggressionā but it sure seems like it is, in the moment! 2. His chewing is insane. We canāt have him out in the house out of his playpen under direct supervision for more than 5 minutes (surrounded by toys and various chews) without him going from furniture to furniture and chewing on them. If we try to stop him and redirect him to a toy, he just spits it out and goes right back to the furniture. He will do this over and over until we simply have to put him back in the playpen. He does the same thing when heās loose in our backyard. Weāve puppy proofed it the best we can but itās still a large yard with flowers and bushes and rocks. Heāll go from one to the other, grabbing a rock in his mouth and running away, or breaking off huge branches off the bushes and just generally acts like a crazy dog. If we try to take things out of his mouth (always trading him first something else, he often gets snappy) 3. On walks, he barks and lunges toward people and other dogs. Not in aggression, but in excitement to get to them. Weāre working on not letting him jump up on people, but heās CRAZY when he meets new people or dogs and if we handle him to try to calm him down or keep him from jumping on someone, he often will whip around and snap at us. 4. Heās been prone to overstimulation from the first day we brought him home and the more wound up he gets, the more snappy he gets. But how do we socialize him without letting him get overstimulated? 5. He has times where heās great on his leash and walks well and is fine. But other times, he grabs his leash and bites it, pulls on it, spins on it, and if you try to calm him down or make him stop, you guessed it - he snaps and tries to bite.
In short, he can be super sweet but heās also EXTREMELY strong-willed and weāre just not sure if his behavior is ānormalā for 15 weeks old and we just need to keep working through it or if we truly do have a problem on our hands and need to bring in a professional behaviorist. With the plastic Mechanicum announcement, I've been seeing a lot of confusion in the community as to why 30k Mechanicum is so (supposedly) incompatibly different from 40k Adeptus Mechanicus, as a military force. I thought I'd clear up the history at play here, which is ultimately rooted in changes that were roughly as fundamental as the shift from Legions to Chapters for Space Marines.
In the era of the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy, the Mechanicum empire was a separate protectorate of the Human Imperium, with Mars as its capital world and holiest site. It was, strictly speaking, an ally of the Imperium, rather than being directly part of it.
The Mechanicum's principal military forces comprise three separate bodies, in this period, known collectively as the Triad-magna. These are the Legiones Skitarii, the Collegia Titanica, and the Taghmata Omnissiah.
By the end of the Horus Heresy, and particularly the Titandeath events, the Collegia Titanica has been absolutely wrecked. Its constituent Titan Orders simply don't have the numbers to represent a coherent force in their own right, and lack the resources they would need to truly rebuild. Titans shift away from being massed superheavy armies and toward being precious supporting assets deployed with great care, even as singular units accompanied by Knights rather than fellow Titans.
We don't have details on the Legiones Skitarii yet, but given the Fabricator-General of Mars turned traitor, the Red Planet was lost, and a Martian Parliament-in-Exile was set up on Terra, it seems inevitable that the Skitarii cohorts throughout the galaxy would have split down whatever lines made the most sense to each of them.
However, after the Heresy, the Mechanicum is no longer a separate empire even in name. Following compromises made by the aforementioned Parliament-in-Exile, it is now the Adeptus Mechanicus, a subset of the Imperium's own structure and systems (albeit a powerful and privileged one). It is understandable that it would not be afforded the right to rebuild its unified galaxy-scale standing army, something even the Imperium is avoiding, due to a fear of resurgent warlordism. Moreover, Mars itself has lost a great deal of pre-eminence within the Machine Cult, both as a result of turning traitor, and as a consequence of its own material and materiel losses compared to some of the other influential forge worlds.
Long before the 41st Millennium, the Legiones Skitarii have been reformed as regional forces, supplanting any existing local regiments of so-called "Tech Guard". They are now created and maintained by individual forge worlds as garrisons and footsoldiers. This likely required heavy adaption and alteration to the core Skitarii technologies and doctrines, both to suit their new role and the loss of a centralised supply chain for complex cybrid technologies... and because Mars would be more content to lock its most propietary toys away in a vault forever than it would be to let all the other kids play with (and reverse-engineer) them.
With the other two thirds of the Triad-magna effectively defunct, the Taghmata Omnissiah also ceases to be a relevant system. Many of the independent resources that once supplemented the Taghmata are much-diminished or outright defunct. The Ordo Reductor has lost many of its greatest engines and political advocates, the Explorator fleets have gone from regular Great Crusade assets to extraordinary undertakings, and the Legio Cybernetica has suffered mass destruction and reputational damage. The new, more conservative Adeptus Mechanicus leadership will proceed to excommunicate all of the more advanced automata designs, forcing it to decommission or mothball much of what remains, revisiting older variants like the Kastelan.
On a local level, the mass raising of Tech-thrall militia is censured, and falls out of practice in favour of the newly-available Skitarii garrisons, while military servitor technology such as Kataphrons gains renewed focus due to the reduced access to automata.
The overall feudal model of the Taghmata effectively becomes the entire military system of the Adeptus Mechanicus, which is far more regional, fragmented, and reactive than the Mechanicum, and lacks the undeniable rights (or centralised authority) of post-Treaty Mars. However, the actual resources available to assemble such a force are very, very different.
In some ways, these components are less powerful, thanks to a decline in resources and technology, as well as the Imperium's reduced tolerance for free-roaming independent military bodies. In other ways, they are far more efficient, because they are now a combination of deliberate, formal garrisons... rather than just being a mishmash of whatever shiny toys and spare chaff any given Tech-priest conclave could pull out of their pockets.

- The Collegia Titanica is a collective term for the many separate bodies of Titan-capable forces (known generally as Titan Orders or Titan Legions) throughout the galaxy. The seeds for these groups were sent out into the stars as part of Explorator fleets during the great Martian exodus in the Age of Strife, and grew along with their associated forge worlds. Knight Houses are wholly distinct from Titan Orders in nature, origin, and legal status, but are also often sworn to them or directly to the Mechanicum.
- The Legiones Skitarii are the standing armies of Mars, cyborg janissaries stationed throughout the galaxy, but created and commanded exclusively by the Red Planet. They are the enforcers of its will, and the core of its military advantage over any other forge world. They haven't been detailed beyond that in any 30k gamebooks yet.
- The Taghmata Omnissiah is the focus of the actual Mechanicum faction in WHH. They are a version of the Byzantine tagma/thema system; a temporary gathering of provincial forces, in response to a specific call to arms. The forge worlds call a muster, and the Taghmata forms from robot garrisons, itinerant destroyer-priests, local tech-thall militia, and so on. The Taghmata Omnissiah is not a standing professional army, in the vein of the Solar Auxilia or Legiones Astartes; it is a jumble of whatever is available or owed, from whoever is willing or obliged, led by whoever has the biggest hat.
By the end of the Horus Heresy, and particularly the Titandeath events, the Collegia Titanica has been absolutely wrecked. Its constituent Titan Orders simply don't have the numbers to represent a coherent force in their own right, and lack the resources they would need to truly rebuild. Titans shift away from being massed superheavy armies and toward being precious supporting assets deployed with great care, even as singular units accompanied by Knights rather than fellow Titans.
We don't have details on the Legiones Skitarii yet, but given the Fabricator-General of Mars turned traitor, the Red Planet was lost, and a Martian Parliament-in-Exile was set up on Terra, it seems inevitable that the Skitarii cohorts throughout the galaxy would have split down whatever lines made the most sense to each of them.
However, after the Heresy, the Mechanicum is no longer a separate empire even in name. Following compromises made by the aforementioned Parliament-in-Exile, it is now the Adeptus Mechanicus, a subset of the Imperium's own structure and systems (albeit a powerful and privileged one). It is understandable that it would not be afforded the right to rebuild its unified galaxy-scale standing army, something even the Imperium is avoiding, due to a fear of resurgent warlordism. Moreover, Mars itself has lost a great deal of pre-eminence within the Machine Cult, both as a result of turning traitor, and as a consequence of its own material and materiel losses compared to some of the other influential forge worlds.
Long before the 41st Millennium, the Legiones Skitarii have been reformed as regional forces, supplanting any existing local regiments of so-called "Tech Guard". They are now created and maintained by individual forge worlds as garrisons and footsoldiers. This likely required heavy adaption and alteration to the core Skitarii technologies and doctrines, both to suit their new role and the loss of a centralised supply chain for complex cybrid technologies... and because Mars would be more content to lock its most propietary toys away in a vault forever than it would be to let all the other kids play with (and reverse-engineer) them.
With the other two thirds of the Triad-magna effectively defunct, the Taghmata Omnissiah also ceases to be a relevant system. Many of the independent resources that once supplemented the Taghmata are much-diminished or outright defunct. The Ordo Reductor has lost many of its greatest engines and political advocates, the Explorator fleets have gone from regular Great Crusade assets to extraordinary undertakings, and the Legio Cybernetica has suffered mass destruction and reputational damage. The new, more conservative Adeptus Mechanicus leadership will proceed to excommunicate all of the more advanced automata designs, forcing it to decommission or mothball much of what remains, revisiting older variants like the Kastelan.
On a local level, the mass raising of Tech-thrall militia is censured, and falls out of practice in favour of the newly-available Skitarii garrisons, while military servitor technology such as Kataphrons gains renewed focus due to the reduced access to automata.
The overall feudal model of the Taghmata effectively becomes the entire military system of the Adeptus Mechanicus, which is far more regional, fragmented, and reactive than the Mechanicum, and lacks the undeniable rights (or centralised authority) of post-Treaty Mars. However, the actual resources available to assemble such a force are very, very different.
In some ways, these components are less powerful, thanks to a decline in resources and technology, as well as the Imperium's reduced tolerance for free-roaming independent military bodies. In other ways, they are far more efficient, because they are now a combination of deliberate, formal garrisons... rather than just being a mishmash of whatever shiny toys and spare chaff any given Tech-priest conclave could pull out of their pockets.
