2024.06.01 15:48 HintOfMalice Why Am I So Slow?

Level 81, big noob here. In arena battles I'm consistently finding that I'm wildly outsped by my opponents.
I'm using Geonosians and regardless of what comp I'm against I am significantly slower than my opponents.
I put a Speed Mod set on Poggle and it made a big difference, but he's still massively slower than all of my enemies. I've checked and no, they aren't using speed sets. Sometimes their power level is lower than mine so surely it can just be that they have higher gear levels, can it?
Am I missing something? It's a bit frustrating to start an arena match just to watch the enemy troops take 2 turns before I can move and kill one of my troops. And god forbid they have turn meter manipulating abilities, in which case I will just sit and watch them attack me over and over and over until all my units are dead before I've attacked even once.
Also, while I'm here why are 90% of my arena candidates significantly higher level than me? I'm level 81, highest gear level is 9 I think? I might have 1 level 10 maybe. No zetas. And most of my targets are level 85 with multiple zetas and some fancy colours around their unit icons.

2024.06.01 15:01 FaithlessnessKey1726 Career dilemma—teaching or library?

(Skip to the end to see the informal poll and avoid the anxious ramble)
My first year of teaching was a disaster from beginning to end. I know most teachers’ first year is the worst and you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing bc you don’t know what you’re doing and there’s so much pressure. Etc.
Even beyond the more typical misery was a lot of personal life tumult and turmoil and trauma and chaos going on, including a debilitating (somewhat unofficial but more or less confirmed based on symptoms) diagnosis I have to live with now without having much insight as to prognosis. And a lot more discomfort involving loved ones.
Reflecting on this year is almost as traumatic as the experience itself. I had next to zero support, with the exception of about 2 weeks under the guidance of an amazing master teacher. But that was it. The morale at the school was beneath rock bottom. Every single day was worse than the day before. I tried to go in positive. But with very few exceptions, everyone was miserable and no one tried to hide it. People were directly rude to me, condescending, sarcastic, openly comtemptful, angry, hated the kids and cursed about them and screamed at them (“shut UP!!!!” “MORON! GET OUT!” “You’re STUPID, I should have LET that student hit you!” “I woulda hit you in the face too if you’d done something like that to me!” Just a few quotes off the top of my head, not to mention one slamming the door on my sped teacher’s face along with our sped students, which the principal did absolutely nothing about despite his friendship with the sped teacher). Discipline/behavior was an absolute JOKE. I think I’ve painted an accurate picture of how awful it was.
I guessed my way through everything but did my absolute best and figured everything out. A bit of productive struggle and hey, by the end of the year I was an expert in a lot of things I knew nothing about months earlier. My rapport with my students was great, to give myself some credit. They loved me. Albeit too much—they thought of my softness as a doormat. They felt free and liberated in my classroom bc I seldom raised my voice. Unfortunately what they’re accustomed to is only listening when yelled at, and as a new teacher, I did not have better tools to manage classroom behavior, beyond building relationships, and my class was a bit out of control. It became all about getting through the curriculum through the 3rd quarter.
My benchmark scores went up, which was pretty amazing considering everything. However at the very beginning of the 4th quarter my principal informed me that he wasn’t renewing my contract and that he would never let me teach 4th grade again, that “I don’t know if I would ever let you teach any grade level, maybe try pre-k—you get nap time and someone is always with you.” So he wrote off my career as an elementary teacher after just a few months of teaching. I could go in about how he had covertly brought in his very own former student (who had only recently began prepping to take the Praxis) as my replacement, unofficially “employed” but “technically not.” But I don’t want to get into that, as furious as it made me. I just stopped writing lesson plans bc no way was I gonna train her for free when they gave me zero support through the year.
I had way more bad days than good—the kids and my para got me through it! I was grateful for that. They were wonderful and I miss them. But I was made to feel incompetent. I slowly started to realize that him booting me was a blessing in disguise, especially after learning how many students I’d have had next year. And some other changes that won’t be helpful.
There’s also a lot of BS going on in our state regarding education. So things are not exactly going to get easier. Alas, I need a paycheck and I went to school and passed praxis to be a teacher. I’m 44 so it’s not like I have many options.
But I did actually finally get an interview at a library last week! I’d applied for 6 years and never got so much as a phone call. Unfortunately it’s part time and drastically less pay (which is honestly pitiful). And it would take me years to make close to what I make now. And I was just getting into certification so as a teacher I’d get a $10k raise. Buuut I really don’t want to miss a rare opportunity to get my foot in the door at the library!
I’ve got dozens of job offers in my district. I had 6 principals call me and email me yesterday alone! I know I could make decent money. But I don’t want to turn down the library job, which absolutely would not cut it financially.
I forgot to mention a key component of this dilemma: Teaching is extremely overstimulating to me. I’m autistic/adhd. This was part of my misery. Between my loud a/c units in my classroom and the kids noises desks constantly clanking and kids constantly talking over me etc etc etc, and the awful attitudes of most coworkers and all the other stuff, I barely made it to the end of the year. I know most of us actually feel that way, but my day to day in the classroom is beyond awful. I cried constantly, I had panic attacks going in every single morning during the 4th quarter after years of reduced panic attacks, most days I felt frustrated, and some days I even had moments where I could not even talk anymore and had to go home (these days where at least one kid told me to “Shut the f- - k up b-tch!” or fought or both plus admin treated me like crap and I had enough). Not to mention spending entire weekends and weeknights writing lesson plans, creating lessons, grading, entering grades, etc etc etc. All I could think about every day was how much I wished I could get a library job!! I even had a student tell me I would make a better librarian than teacher. She was excited when I got the call about the interview lol.
But what if my next school is better? What if I go in knowing expectations and having a better idea of how to do things and how to establish classroom procedures, what if it’s better? What if it’s stupid to give up on a better paying job? I’d love to get my MLIS but realistically, there aren’t very many librarian jobs and moving isn’t an option. The day to day would almost be worth the paycut. I’ve contemplated doing both, just for one year. I know that sounds nuts, and it’s risky, but what’s more important? My paycheck, or my mental health?! I honestly don’t know! I need the money. But I also need a peaceful environment.
Here are my options:
A) Substitute w library for almost the same money as I made uncertified, which was barely enough
B) Library + teaching full time bc you’re insane and unrealistic
C) Library only + MLIS bc it’s your dream & short term paycut is worth long term happiness.
D) Girl, are you insane?! Teaching only bc it’s the smart move!

2024.06.01 14:50 Direct_Article4538 VSV subjects seem easier than my campus ones. Bad sign?!

Does anyone know how VSV students are scaled or how they alter the curriculum? Are their SACs and study scores scaled down? Has anyone here gotten a 95+ ATAR with fully or mostly online units? Currently stressing out for my entire future! 🤗
I have been doing 2 of my 5 1/2 units via VSV and I'm getting a bit worried! Both are subjects that my school isn't running this year due to numbers. However, I developed a health condition mid last year that's doing anything but improving, + i'm extra busy/stressed from commitments outside of school (working and caregiving responsibilities.) Right now it's looking pretty likely that, due to all these factors, I'll have to go fully online for 3/4. When I enrolled I was assured by my school and VSV that as long as I keep my focus I'll get the same standard + amount of work as I would currently. I was a bit worried because of how secretive they are with their study scores ect but I didn't have much choice.
However... Both subjects are clearly easier than the standard that friends from other 'in person' schools receive. I'm always getting 97-100% on SACs for both subjects, even though I don't go to their glorified powerpoint reading online classes and typically complete all my weekly work for the subjects in a few hours. The marking + feedback for weekly work is useless too. You don't get a grade, only a 'satisfactory' or not, and you can resubmit if you don't pass. My feedback is always "This is far above VCE level, well done! Keep it up!"... It's really not. What I'm submitting is the level that I would do on campus if I want mid 80's. Oh and just to clarify, I'm obviously not some child genius so hopefully this doesn't sound as absolutely pretentious as it does to me. Sorry everyone. I'm always good with Lit, but I usually need to put some elbow grease into the other ones if I want to achieve high marks. At my private, but by no means academic school, I've always done well (ok apart from GM; lets just say my emotional support calculator and I have clawed our way to 'firmly unremarkable' status) but I have to study hard and push myself to stay up there in marks. Essentially I'm just not used to getting full marks on a silver platter for a SAC that I submitted at 4am, after 1 hour of sleep-deprived and unmotivated work. I submitted that fully prepared for my average grade to drop pretty dramatically. Very much a 'fuck it, fuck this' submission. When I saw my mark I was honestly offended(?). That mark at my current school would've been the result of a week in self isolation and a rapidly approaching vitamin D deficiency. I really don't deserve it at all! I almost want them to take it back!!! It doesn't mean anything like this.
I always have to email them to ask for useful feedback (I BEG them to tell me areas I can improve on.) Even then I get the same response, or a very surface level message that doesn't seem to have much thought put into it. All very generalised stuff. The SACs aren't even well regulated. My submission didn't load properly once so I ended up submitting two days late; they didn't even mention it!? Once I was told I didn't have to worry about proper referencing for an essay. I have started going through the standard text books (VSV told me I wouldn't need one because the content is "all found in the weekly work" yea nah ) + doing all the work that a friend from another school gets. All because I'm terrified that they aren't teaching me the level they should be. I've even started trying to do double the effort that they ask for so I'm not stressing about getting behind without knowing it. It's getting tempting to submit crap without even editing it first, but I'm trying so hard not to fall into that rabbit hole... Yet.
Not to be dramatic but that chic, sultry 99.95 ATAR™ 😮‍💨🤩 has been tantalising me since my little brain could intellectualise it, so I'm really scared for my results if I have to go fully online next year. I don't have family pressure for results, but my self worth and academic results venn diagram is a circle. Before you ask, I'm not willing to move to a local-ish school with all my subjects because it will make things harder for my family. The one good thing about vsv subjects is that I have more time at home for those responsibilities + I can stop working so much because it's a public school. Sorry for this mini breakdown that nobody ever asked for or needed, but please please please, if anyone has ANY info on how it will effect my results or experience with getting a good ATAR at vsv, let me know. Or confirm my fears that my life is over.

2024.06.01 14:42 kawaiixxx 2024-06-15 (Sat) Hong Kong GRMD

Wow. It’s been 5 years since the last GRMD. Every year we try to get as many people in the /hongkong community to show up and meet each other in person. This year Reddit admin changed things a bit and turn it into GRMW to give some flexibility. We decided on June 15th (Saturday).
I’d toyed with the idea of just doing a big /hongkong meetup like previous years even without any Reddit endorsement like the Xmas party of 2017 and 2018, but venue prices have gone way up since pre-COVID. So we’d managed to arrange something to keep prices as affordable as possible.
Time: 19:00 -00:00
Venue:
This time we will host at DMZ, a gaming venue run by kwuhkc and pyrosas. We will have video games, board games, and karaoke available. If anyone have games they want to play, feel free to bring them along.
Directions:
Map Link
Unit A1, 7/F, Chuan Yuan Factory Building, 342-344 Kwun Tong Rd, Ngau Tau Kok
From Ngau Tau Kok MTR station, exit B5. Cross Lai yYp Street following Kwun Tong Road until you reach Yan Yip Street. Follow the Yan Yip Street to the first building entrance to the right, this will be Chuan Yuan Factory Building. Take any elevator to the 7th floor, and you have arrived!
Games:
Ranging from Card Against Humanity to Hero Quest, 3 TV setups available for karaoke, Nintendo switch and steam deck hookups, bring your consoles people! Jackbox is available as well.
While the games are fun and all, the important part of GRMD is for people to come out and meet each other and make new friends.
The venue will have a lot of space for people to fan out and hang out, so regardless of if you are new to the scene or a long time veteran/lurker, come on by and make some buddies!
Food:
Buffet style, but not unlimited. If we run out of food and there are still hungry people we can call for take out.
Drinks:
There will be non alcoholic drinks available.
Alcoholic drinks will be BYOB, please bring to share. (Also, I like stouts.)
Group photo:
I plan on having the group photo at around 8:30 or so. I will also be leaving my old cameras around the venue so feel free to pick them up and shoot away. I'd appreciate it if other people take some candid pictures of the event.
Costs:
HK$300 per person flat fee if you prepay by the deadline (June 9th 23:59), HK$350 after the deadline or at the door. This will cover drinks and food.
Why prepay?
This is necessary due to logistic and budget reasons, and more importantly we need to know how much food to order from the catering company (the amount of money we collect by the deadline will determine what and how much we order). Please help us out by pre-paying ASAP!
How to pay:
Please do a FPS/PayMe transfer to 96332968 (WONG H** S** S**** ) $300 (for each person). Send a WhatsApp to +852-96332968 with following info:
Once I confirmed received payment we will put you into the Super Secret Elite WhatsApp group for cool Redditors. Again, past the 6/9 deadline the cost goes up to $350.
And before anyone ask I will not be doing any tiered pricing. Please don't ask if you can just come and play and not eat and pay less money, or if you are going to be late, or if you are going to leave early. It just make things more complicated for us and math is hard. Also, no exception for anyone on paying past the deadline.
If for some reason you do not have FPS/Payme, PM me and we will see if we can arrange something. I will try to do a pub crawl the weekend before and you can try to meet me and pay me in person.

2024.06.01 14:31 Potential-Lack-5185 Fan-Wars in the SUB. And are people wrong to extra-support their POC faves?

Edit: The downvotes have begun but hopefully that means people are reading till the end too. Will have to try the BridgertonRants sub as that seems more accepting of discussions and debates. : )
Would super appreciate it if everyone reads this long-ass thesis of a post with an open mind and to the end...its me being vulnerable in an anonymous reddit sub because i think these things matter in the larger framework of a uniquely special show and the big, bright, beautiful, multicultural gorgeous world we all as humans live in. My last post in this sub was downvoted to hell which btw totally ok...and i dont depend on reddit currency for my livelihood so its all good. I just care about my posts being read...specially this one.
Some context:
I'm very new to this community and reddit as well. Currently have time off work and going ham on reddit and venturing very scared into the deep dark of world of rabid fandoms and small niche communities. Getting a little burnt along the way but also learning from some super talented fans with their own eye-opening ideas and funny posts. Fans of all kinds, Im peeping into profiles, so white, black, brown multicolored rainbow of the world right here.
I'm also an aspiring writer and well...some of my best ideas have come from reddit lurking on cool and active subs with bridgerton sub being new for me. Jet lagged, anxious and just a tad bit antsy, I'm trying to go down and deep and maybe open some deeper discussions here.
I am Indian and lived primarily in India my whole life and now for the last 10 years between London and Canada (why am I sharing all this like and am I also going to tell you my weight, my height etc too...No but hopefully you'll understand this revelation as you read ahead without me spelling it out)
So I've been trying to figure out why fan wars as they pertain to this show prick so personally, so particularly.
I think fandoms anywhere in every country are full of insane people, obsessive chronically online people who find comfort through living through their faves..your beyonce stans, your rihanna stans, your Taylor Swift stans, your harry styles stans, your k pop stans, etc etc..
This show also has some rabid fans..But there is a conversation I want to open up only because I think it's important...Is fighting extra hard for your poc fave because you know their representation in pop culture is limited, their getting jobs is limited, subconscious biases exist even though we have been making great strides and even eradicated overt biases in employment, in accessibility, in government service etc etc ..and their culture not as dominant, their worlds not as seen or coveted.
Our ideas of beauty are framed by the extensiveness and longevity of colonial rule across the world.
there are shit people across all ethnicities religions and genders and nationalities. Barbarians, conquerors, invaders, pillaging villages raping women destroying livelihoods suppressing the peasant class, mutilating and diluting cultures- exist in Africa, the Indian subcontinent, East asia, middle East etc so not just Britain. Basically being brown, black or East Asian and Middle Eastern doesnt grant you moral superiority over white people and you can be racist and casteist and colorist and bigoted and biased and just all around shitty and criminal as a black, brown, east asian middle eastern etc etc person just as much as white people.
So now that thats settled, lets look at specific issues that POC only face because that eventually streams into the show and its politics and its discussion as well.
But for whatever reason ...the British were able to colonize on a scale that the other countries and ethnicities were not able to.. African and the Indian subcontinent's conquests and invasions were limited in area and time period...their scale of conquest limited to a small radius around their own countries...and not foreign lands travelled via sea etc.
As a result and only as a result and not because and I cannot emphasize enough that black, brown or east asian invaders, rulers etc were morally superior, kinder, less assholes...the culture that became dominant was white british culture..or european culture...if Indians had conquered the world, they would have imposed their culture on the lands and countries they invaded, if different African countries invaded the world to the extent of the british colonists, same thing...the dominant culture that would have been forcibly imposed by the people of african ethnicity would be their culture... Black skin would have been considered beautiful, white fair skin would not have been the standard....thats history....thats something we know to be true even through modern wars...the victor dictates...But that simply didnt happen.
it's not because t Africans or Asians or basically non white people are morally superior, more virtuous, incapable of terrorist acts or colonizing or I don't know were like we don't invade and conquest, we so good. But because that's history. They just didn't manage it. thats simply our current historical reality.
Being that the country or countries that did manage to conquer the world or close to 9/10ths of it were Europeans or more specifically British white nationals..which means as would happen even if another nationality had managed to invade the world, the culture that is dominant across the world is a west/white slanted world..
Colorism as a concept didnt exist until colonization: Why would it? If everyone existed under the same harsh sun, had the same skin color with minor variances...why would they think fair is more beautiful. Its because they wouldnt...the first blond haired blue eyed people would have been introduced to India via early traders of east india company in India and dutch colonists before them...Its like if everyone around you is brown, you assume thats just how everyone else looks like...thats the only reality you know...you simply havent seen anyone look any different..you havent seen blue eyes or anything else....same for africans and within that framework as humans are wont to do you create ideas of beauty.
So yes. POCs across the globe had just as arbitrary ideas of beauty as white people (chiense mutilated young women feet cuz small feet more beautiful, in africa genital mutiliation) because humans are humans and humans mess everything up...and animals are so much better...but color as a construct is a colonial one and one which managed to find deeep deep roots because of the extent of the rule, the sheer longevity, For context, India has been independent for the last 75 years..from over 200 years of colonial british rule...Not even the length of the life of a single human. Not even as long as Britains former queen was alive. It will take some more time for that in fighting and ideas of colorism deeply penetrated from the inheritance of our rulers to get dismanted...and totally thrown own...because you can freee from literall bondage more easily, the mind takes longer to adjust and form independent thought. But it will happen.
White people are not more or less racist than POC. Thats not a thing. There are shit people and you can find shit people anywhere...I have shit people right in my own home country, bigots, destroying the diversity of India by bullshit tactics...
But as it stands...because this cultural superiority of British and white people took over, the framing of beauty, of whats fashionable, of whats cool, of whats civilized is all seen through the lens of white culture...eating with hands which many cultures across the world do uncivilized unhygienic, paris fashions and made in italy...mark of excellence...made in India and China...cheap, low quality, scammers and shit people, (thats not to say shit people and scammers dont exist in India and China and there arent industries of scammers across these poorer nations but there is also denying the equisite craftasmanship across fashion and beauty in both countries-China and India.
Brown skin bad, even darker skin even bad etc etc...We wear clothes that our colonial masters did across the world, you wont find people in china wearing Chinese clothes, same for India, african countries etc...everything from clothing, to beauty, to furniture, to houses everything indigenous was changed to a foreign ideal from our rulers. The same would have happened whoever whichever ethnicity had invaded the world...like i said above..
Now and thanks for reading whoever read till here and I hope a lot of people did-on to to the show...
There is this frequent refrain and accusation of oppression olympics that I read about when it comes to this show, in general online discourse and also this insanely disgusting article fat shaming Nicola Coughlan in The Spectator.
And i really really want to open up this conversation...cuz race gets discussed a lot on this sub and other bridgerton subs and therefore a perfect place to have that conversation...Do Non-POC really believe in the concept of oppression olympics and that all kinds of biases are equally treacherous to navigate?
So I was overweight in my teens...I had a close friend who was wheelchair bound. my life was hard and I was bullied but surely surely I do not think that my plight was the same as my friend in a wheelchair...In class 10th, a close friend's father passed away, the same year my grandmother passed away, surely, surely, I dont think we are experiencing the same pain the same setback to our life...Class 10th in India is akin to A levels in Britain and SAT in the USA..
You know why I didnt think any of this and why if I had i was wrong, because there is a hierarchy to opression, .to loss, to struggles. There simply is. Opression Olympics is rooted in reality.
Pain is pain, loss and bad foundations suck ass...but privilege is a thing and some pains some loads just lighter compared to others. I could lose weight and get over the oppression I was facing because of my weight in school. My wheelchair bound friend didnt have that option..I wouldnt get my grandmother back...but my fathers loss would have a more immediate affect on my life and my friend who lost her father and her loss was just simply deeper. She needed more support, more help, more people crowding around her saying you've got this Niharika..well make sure your life doesnt change permanently cuz youlve lost your dad.
So when show fandom compare Jonathon Baileys struggle to Rege Jean George or say Victor Ali, they are simply pointing out that yes while Jonathon Bailey is gay...there is a difference between being white and gay and being black and gay or simply harder being black. And therefore there is a hierarchy. Why POC are less loath to crticize the average acting of their POC faves because they know the opportunities for them are limited. Lets do an exercise name 5 shows led by a POC in the USA or Britain or Canada-any POC..brown, black i dont care. And im not talking about black or brown actors in a show or film, im talking leads...
Also biases are self perpetuating....When black or brown led films fail, the opportunities immediately dry up because it shows that its just fairness and the numbers dont lie..Except this is not maths.....Maths would be first making equal amount of shows starring black or brown people, and then comparing...Now if the end result is white led shows do better-that would be correct math...but ratios and comparisons and statistics need to first start with an even scale...thats not even me taking about diversity...thats just math formulas...
If lets say there are 500 actors who are white in hollywood and 200 who are Black in hollywood, and lets say all 200 black actors are shit...would you say the statement...god white actors are so much better than black actors...no cuz the maths is not adding up...you compared 500 actors who were white of which 300 were excellent 200 bad and you made that into the conclusion that white actors are better because you were comparing only with 200 black actors to begin with...the actual math formula yieled equal number of bad and good actors..
Why people defend Kanthony harder...or wanted Simone Ashley to be promoted as much as Polin is because (lets go with my Math analogy again) all things being the same) unless Nicola and Luke are really bad actors compared to Simone Ashley, theyll still have it easier in acting...they simply will. they wont have to change their confusingly, long foreign sounding name, they wont have to work at assimilation in other ways, lets say they were muslim they wouldnt have been trying hard to sell themselves as Im just as liberal as you, im not a threat. And I love Luke Newton and Nicola Coughland-both seem like throughly, likable, personable, kind hearted beans..
Now my own experience. I have stated in an earlier post on this sub that I'm a Shonda Rhimes fan...because I have personally benefitted from the diversity she has included so naturally, so elegantly in all her shows. My own ideas of beauty, have been tested and transformed. In fact I know exactly the moment it happened...watching Christina Yang as a 14 year old...and thinking god meredith is so beautiful and I want to see more of HER and Izzie but then seeing christina again and again and again over each episode over hundreds of hours of binging, school, college, masters, big move outside India, my own constant this show..my brain was soft mushy and impressionable and christina yang, korean Sandra Oh became suddenly but actually slowly and then all at once became beautiful to me...I dont know when it happened but like the book Colin telling Penelope I dont know when or how and why others dont see it but you ARE beautiful in the book carriage scene. I found her hot, I found her cool. I cared to learn more about her Korean mother and her Jewish father and it didnt matter that the show never covered that culture..Christina was atheist and could handle her shit..even around racists.. But I still wanted to learn more about HER..a woman I simply didnt think was beautiful comparable to meredith and Izzie..me an impressionable 14 year old..just made that turn because of a show.,..a fluffy...not that deep soapy as hell show.
But it was only possible cuz I saw 24 episodes day in day out,...over many many years....for that to happen. I had many more years of falling asleep to dawsons creek joey and dawson, joey and pacey, gilmore girls rory and jess rory and dean rory and logan..i imagined and dreamt of windswept Mr. Darcy...and of course I luckily had my own countrys pop culture cuz I grew up and lived in a country where I was repped plenty eveywhere... So i found bollwood heroes hot and I found White americans or british people hot...my brain simply didnt have a framework for East Asians hot. And I needed to seem them constantly and frequentlyn and in Hot front and center, desirable covetable-their culture, their families all respected, admired again and again and again over many years for that switch to happen.
So why do we fight for our POV faves.. fight hard (some fight really ugly too which....they are not my people ( as in I dont know them) so sorry for that)....because we know how much more repping they need...we know how much MORE MORE MORE important it is to see POC culture done right...because it simply is not accessible,...cannot be to people outside..
K POP is making waves super..., people love themselves some MANGA and kimchi...so good and progress...but a lot of countries pop culture is in the native tongue...people outside of it cannot access it...in the same way one would English language content-books, podcasts, news, films, shows etc etc. And hollywood does our culture wrong, played up for laughs, stinky curry, stinky indians, scamming Indians, uncivilized heathens, oh so funny that Sofia Vergara and her funny accent (The Ellen Show), niche shows that dont become popular behemoths because it stars all ethnic casts-Fresh Off the Boat.
You simply will not understand how brilliant and gorgeous my country's embroideries, temple art, clothing and fashion, actors and sculptors, museums and writing and authors are...not because YOU are racist..but because you dont speak-my language and my culture isnt dominant or wide spread enough-insert again-my above explanation of colonialism and dominant and suppressed cultures. History made one culture the most widespread...again not because white people = bad and racist...brown and black people = good and not racist and benevolent..but because some people simply were the victors...for centuries...plural.
We want to fight harder for Rege and defend him leaving the show (im not even black but when you live outside of your home country, all POC seem like a united underrepresented group and you find kinship everywhere) because any potential cancellation or quote unquote unlikeability and hes difficult accusations would hurt him far far more than Nicola Coughlan, Luke Thompson, Newton, Phoebe etc. for the same "crimes" And there just arent enough of us to begin with to lose even one. For what is quite honestly a mid Netflix show with seeds of promise but a lack of ambition.

2024.06.01 13:52 Corvun_Chad_ Humans have their ships in the water (chapter1/ prologue)

(Chapter1) ( more of a prologue) Humans where an odd species. When we first made contact with them in our year 138,456 it was their year 1915. We contacted them after entering a system that had been having low level surface to surface energy discharges at a truly mortifying rate. We would later learn this was artillery used in a continent spanning war. Shocked by the clear intentions we watched them from ca’ope of 138,456 to shollek of the same year. Or February of 1915 to September 1915 before deciding to make contact. The war had continued to rage and seemed to only become more violent. Seeing in there species age many intelligent species die before there time from internal strife they would make contact to stop the war. Maybe if they where lucky they could get them to unite.
When entering the atmosphere they where able to get a better sense of what was going on. They decided to make their delegation land in the city of Paris. They would use a low fly by to alert their presence to the governments and people of this world. They had seen they had earlier atmospheric fighters that had very interesting designs but could do some minor damage to a research ship. To prevent that they would make their intentions clearly peaceful. They where planning this all the way into the planner to the finally entered the atmosphere. But famously if there is on universal rule it is no plan survives first contact
The first interruption was a Change in orders. The diplomatic command, seeing the reports belived them to be to uncivilized to be their own system. Their new orders was to establish relations and offer war or subjugation. While not ideal it would still work and they expected to have them subjugated and annexed by shollek of next year.
The second interruption was not there fault and was a rather natural reaction. Once they had been intercepted by a flight of 9 French 16 British planes and an airship they had slowly moved to Paris. What they saw shocked them on the way there. They where disgusted by the brutality of the war. While it at first seemed like normal trench warfare they soon saw what many would later know as true human all out warfare.
The sight of men charging the other trench being mowed down by machine guns and getting bombed and shot at by early planes was horrifying. Blood even managed to taint the bottom of the ship hull when a bomber moving just below it blew up, the crew now stuck as blood mist on the bottom of the ship. It got worse when the enemy trench began to fix bayonets and get ready to meet them in the field. The hand to hand combat was brutal and nonstop. One of the diplomats even saw a man take a stick when his club broke and shoved it in his opponent’s eye. Then slammed his head nonstop on the ruins of. A trench before beating him till his skull caved in with his helmet before simply moving on.
As if to add insult to injury when the wave of men finally died the enemy trench fearing a second wave fired on the fields with their men still standing in the middle. It was a gruesome sight. It reached its peak when chlorine gas was released by the opposing trench and the men clearly didn’t have gas mask’s. All of this had one of the diplomats leaving to go to the bathroom to
The final and third was the rather unwelcoming response. When they landed in paris the reception was less than pleasant and had many of the diplomats wondering if they should just immediately declare war in response to a diplomatic insult. The talks outside of formality’s boiled down to to words that would forever change humanity “ War it is”

2024.06.01 12:51 wander__well No Longer Chronic After Treating Medication Adaption Headaches AMA

Over a year ago, I was going through a particularly stressful time and went to my neurologist concerned that I was possibly having Medication Adaption Headaches (MAH aka Medication Overuse Headaches aka Rebound Headaches) or would develop them.
I was having a migraine or headache almost daily. I had been cycling through pain meds to avoid using too much of the same thing and too many triptans mistakenly thinking that this would keep me safe.
My neurologist didn't take any time to discuss why I thought I might be having MAH or what should be done if I was already having them. He did give me the prescription for Aimovig that I asked for, but also a recommendation and prescription for Panadol migraine (same as Excedrin migraine) which I had never taken before. The prescription wasn’t needed to get the Panadol migraine, but it was needed to have it reimbursed by my insurance. I thought because it is OTC in the US (which is where I'm from) that it would be better (again mistakenly) than taking so many triptans.
The aimovig was like putting a bandaid on a gash that needed stitches. I made it another year before I had an absolutely horrible flare-up about 60 days ago that led me to do my own research because my neurologist had failed me horribly and I decided it was most definitely MAH and I needed to detox.
The Detox
I quit taking all pain OTC pain meds and triptans for 60 days (as is recommended in most treatment guides). It took me roughly 9 days to have a noticeable drop in my migraines back to episodic. My migraines have lessened in severity and length over the last 60 days. Though the first week or so was the most challenging to get through, I also had hormonal migraines that were tough. The few other non-hormonal migraines I had later in the 60 days, I was able to clearly identify triggers for. This hadn’t been the case for me in the past. I've also now been able to abort a hormonal migraine with other methods listed here.
Other Options for Pain Relief
(for any meds or supplements always consult your doctor)
Ginger is a great natural painkiller. There is some BS study that says it is as effective as sumatriptan, it most definitely isn't and I'm not going to try to sell it as that, but I would say it is probably as effective as an NSAID. Unfortunately, I’m unable to get GCRP inhibitors where I am so I didn’t have other migraine abortive options, just this.
Benadryl (note: this is the brand name in US & CA, it’s different in Europe) helps me with migraine pain during an attack (sometimes even helps avoid an attack).
A TENS unit was very helpful with migraine pain, but also with cramps during my 60 day detox and I’ll definitely continue using it going forward.
Migraine Cap was especially helpful after the migraine to help with the residual soreness.
Migraine Relief Nasal Inhaler, hot showers, decongestant meds, and decongestant nasal spray* help me because nasal congestion is a major symptom for me. When the congestion is worse, the pain is worse. If I can relieve some congestion, I can also relieve some pain. So I use these as needed depending on the severity of the congestion.
*It is important to note that decongestant nasal sprays can cause rebound congestion if used frequently, follow dosage and warnings on the label.
Myofascial Release & dry needling - this isn’t so much for migraine pain, but it helps me manage back and neck pain that contributes to my migraines and helps me with pain management overall.
The Pain Relief Options That I Wish I Could Have Used or Tried
Balms and patches that you put on your forehead- personally my skin is too sensitive for it, I have tried in the past and it just makes my skin burn (but so does most sunscreen when applied to my face). I’m mentioning these because I think they are a great option for some people and as I was looking through this sub for more ideas of what I could use, they are something that I saw repeatedly that I wish my skin would allow me to use.
Celafy, Nerivio, and Relivion all looked like interesting devices, but sadly aren’t available where I am.
Heated eye massager also looked very appealing and should have been available, but the wrong item was delivered when I tried ordering it and I didn’t feel like trying my luck again. I will definitely get one when I go to the US.
GCRP-inhibitors - these aren’t available where I am so I didn’t have the option to use these as abortives while detoxing from pain meds. I definitely would like the option to be able to use these as abortives for migraines. One study did note they could cause MAH (this is listed below and linked) but there's no good research regarding this as they are so new. I just feel obligated to mention this.
About MAH
Please educate yourself. I have included links to sources. Consult your doctor if you think you might have MAH and advocate for treatment.
1 You have to add up your pain med use!!!
2 OTC Pain Meds+ Triptans + Rx Pain Meds* = 10 Days Maximum Per Month
*Opioids and butalbital may lead to MAH in about 5 days
3 Approximately 50% of patients with chronic migraine have MAH that may revert to episodic headache after drug withdrawal.
Chronic migraine is classified as 15 or more headache days w/ 8 migraine days a month.
Episodic Migraine is classified as 14 or fewer headache and migraine days a month.
4 The name for MAH changed a few times and the one I chose to use is focused on the mechanism that causes the condition rather than the name that sounds like it is blaming the patient (Medication Overuse Headaches). Here’s an article regarding the name dispute.
5 One article even listed GCRP inhibitors as possibly contributing to MAH. But as these medications are new, the research isn't there yet to say if they really do contribute. I just had found it surprising to see and felt obligated to note it.
6 Risk Factors
8 Withdrawal treatment does not only reduce the headache attacks, but also improves responsiveness to acute or prophylactic drugs. Withdrawal symptoms normally last between 2 to 10 days, and do not persist longer than 4 weeks.
Going Forward
I have a number of MAH risk factors including migraines, other chronic pain, anxiety, family history of substance-related disorders, being less physical activity (especially during the time that the stressful situation was happening), and cutaneous allodynia. Had I known about all of these risk factors and that alternating meds would not protect me from MAH, I would have done things very differently. I’ll have to be very careful to not develop MAH again, and actually am thinking of extending my detox because of my risk factors and some concerning statistics regarding allodynia in particular. For now I'm going to try to continue managing my pain with other methods while I can comfortably. Actually just last night I had a hormonal migraine that I managed to abort with a combination of things I listed here that just 2 months ago it would have been at least a level 4 with triptans.
When I do start using pain meds again, I’ll definitely be tracking meds more carefully and adhering to a strict 10 day max per month for OTCs plus triptans. I’ve made an annual tracker that you can print with the maximum days noted for reference.
To the Mods - I’ve noticed many posts with discussion related to MAH being removed. I’ve instructed others to consult their doctor thereby trying to adhere to the sub rules, please let me know if there is something else that might need to be adjusted in order to adhere to the rules.

Preparation for Ragnar LRE
Somehow I can only add one image, so the second one with my roster will be added in the text below.
For a few weeks I’ve been prepping for final Ragnar LRE. Alas, I don’t have neither Isabella nor Rotbone. My current strategy is: 1. Onslaught ReVas to G2 or higher; 2. Farm Aleph shards to push him as high as I can; 3. Farm Burchard shards to get him to G1; 4. Get Rho to G1.
Currently at 250/400 Ragnar shards, joined some time before the second Ragnar LRE.
Questions: 1. Will I make it? 2. Should I bother with Vindicta, Makhotep, Sho, Incisus and Archimatos? 3. Should I grind (no Elite) Abraxas?

I recently got my hands on the Denix Replicas 1081 Walther P. 38 Automatic Pistol and I have to say, it's a real treat for history enthusiasts! The detailed recreation of this iconic WWII weapon is impressive, and it's not just for show. It's heavier than one might expect, which gives it a solid feel in the hand. The pistol-like click of the slide and the smoothness of the mechanism make it a joy to handle, even if it's not fireable.
However, there are some minor drawbacks, like the fact that the slide doesn't lock back and the magazine can't be removed. But considering this is a replica for display purposes rather than practical use, it's not much of a hindrance. As a history buff, I was drawn to the Denix Webley Revolver replica, with its ties to the Indiana Jones movies. The first thing that struck me was its weight, which made it feel like a real gun. The details were incredibly accurate, right down to the checkered grip and the engraving on the barrel.
However, I found it a bit disappointing that the break-open action didn't work. It may be a minor issue for some, but for me, it took away a bit of the authenticity.
Nevertheless, it's a great display piece and does justice to its historical origins.

In my quest to protect my rifle, I recently purchased the Pelican V700 Vault Takedown Rifle and Shotgun Case with Foam, Black. This case has been a game-changer for me, offering unparalleled protection and durability against all elements. Its high-impact polymer exterior ensures that my firearms remain safe from bumps, scratches, and water damage.
The six push button latches provide secure closure while also allowing easy access. Its heavy duty handles are not only ergonomic but also incredibly sturdy, making it easy to transport my weapons even in the toughest conditions. Another feature I absolutely love is the interior protection provided by five layers of high-quality foam.
However, there is one downside to this case - its weight. While the extra heft provides additional protection, it can make carrying the case a bit challenging for extended periods. Despite this, I still feel confident in its ability to safeguard my rifle no matter where I go or how I transport it.
In conclusion, the Pelican V700 Vault Takedown Rifle and Shotgun Case with Foam, Black has been a reliable and robust addition to my arsenal. Its performance under various conditions has exceeded my expectations, making it worth every penny. However, potential buyers should be aware of its weight before making their final decision.

🔗Durable Double Rifle Case – Tan

https://preview.redd.it/g2td665hjx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1d7637075c7de3d3c034e49b15ea8e0fe52baa4
As an avid hunter, I've tried numerous gun cases over the years. But the moment I got my hands on the Pelican V800 Vault Double Rifle Case, I knew I'd found a permanent companion. This hard case is built to withstand even the toughest conditions, making it perfect for anyone who loves the great outdoors.
The first thing that caught my eye was its high-impact polymer exterior. It's designed to protect your firearms from anything you throw at it, whether that's rough terrain, extreme weather conditions, or even the baggage handlers at the airport. With six push-button latches, I can securely lock my rifles inside and have peace of mind knowing they're safe.
One feature I absolutely love is the five layers of customizable protective foam. It provides the ultimate protection for my scoped rifles, ensuring they remain in perfect condition no matter where my adventures take me. Plus, the ergonomic heavy-duty handles make it easy to carry, even when fully loaded.
However, one downside is that the case is quite heavy. While this may not be an issue for some, others might find it challenging to transport long distances. Additionally, cutting through the foam to fit my rifles can be quite a task, requiring a lot of patience and precision.
Overall, the Pelican V800 Vault Double Rifle Case has exceeded my expectations in terms of durability and protection. If you're looking for a reliable and robust gun case, look no further than this one.

🔗Ultimate Guitar Rifle Case for Discreet Transport

https://preview.redd.it/fmwnn7rhjx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4caca78f20469adec52019e2b755be6d05eb2bd8
As an avid hunter, I had been struggling to find a case that could safely transport my rifle without attracting unwanted attention. That's when I came across the Savior Equipment Ultimate Guitar Rifle Case. The first thing that struck me was its size - it's big enough to fit my rifle, yet small enough to remain inconspicuous.
The hard exterior provides ample protection against bumps and knocks, while the customizable foam inserts ensure my rifle is snug and secure. I was initially skeptical about how easy it would be to cut the foam myself, but I found it to be quite simple, and the customization options are endless.
However, one con is the lack of included locks. While it is convenient that the case comes lock-ready, I had to purchase locks separately, which was a minor inconvenience. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase. The Savior Equipment Ultimate Guitar Rifle Case has made my hunting trips a lot easier and more secure.

🔗Duelly Pistol Case with Heavy Duty Handle

https://preview.redd.it/inx6n62ijx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9dfd934ecff6c53c958e421fb5ddce373d003cbf
I've been using the 12" Duelly Pistol Case for a few months now, and it's been a game-changer for me on multiple levels. First, the heavy-duty handle has made it incredibly easy to carry, no matter how heavy the pistols. And let's not forget the interior foam, which has kept my valuable firearms snug and protected from bumps and scratches. Not to mention, the 12" size ensures that there's ample room for all my accessories.
However, one area where this case could improve is its durability. While it has held up well so far, I worry about how it will fare with more extended use. Additionally, the lack of built-in locks for security purposes is a minor inconvenience that I hope to see resolved in future models.
All in all, the Duelly Pistol Case has been an instrumental addition to my collection, and I trust it to keep my valuable possessions safe and secure. If you're in the market for a stylish and functional accessory, this is definitely worth checking out.

🔗Hybrid EVA Pistol Case with Lockable Zipper

https://preview.redd.it/pibe18eijx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7880a5472d72dfa68aaaa6679ddec4fe1fe397a1
I've been using the Plano Stealth Eva Pistol Case for about a month now, and I must say, it's been a game-changer in how I store and transport my 5" pistol. The case has a lightweight EVA construction which is both durable and easy to carry, making it perfect for those trips to the shooting range or when I'm traveling.
The highlight of this case would definitely be the high-density, interlocking foam that secures my contents perfectly in place. It gives me peace of mind knowing that my valued possession is well protected. The lockable zipper pulls are another feature I love; they add an extra layer of security.
However, one downside could be the size - it might not fit all types of pistols or additional accessories comfortably. But, for its purpose and design, the Plano Stealth Eva Pistol Case does its job exceptionally well.

🔗Durable Waterproof Hard Case for Rifles and Shotguns

https://preview.redd.it/reyabsvijx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ffd84602eb582a72e3ab1c93bfc530ad87e39887
As an avid outdoorsman, I've always been on the lookout for reliable gear that can withstand the toughest conditions. The RPNB Large Weatherproof Tactical Case, with its customizable foam insert and premium black rolling hard case, has truly earned its place in my collection.
I first used this case during a hunting trip where I had to traverse rugged terrains. Its robust construction and IP65 rating proved invaluable, keeping my gear dry and dust-free despite the harsh environment. The adjustable pressure relief valve was a welcome surprise as it allowed me to effortlessly access my items even after changing elevations.
However, one minor drawback is the lack of built-in locks. It wasn't a deal-breaker for me since I usually use my own secure luggage locks, but it might be worth considering if you're particularly concerned about security.
All in all, the RPNB Large Weatherproof Tactical Case has been an excellent addition to my gear, providing both practicality and durability. It's definitely worth considering if you're in need of a robust case for your outdoorsy adventures.

🔗Durable All-Weather 2-Pistol Carry Case

https://preview.redd.it/lfixok5jjx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edf516366d6f5bf54cc91a49969f6fb48e588e75
I recently got my hands on the Plano All-Weather Two Pistol Case, and I must say, it's been a game-changer for my firearms storage needs. This case is the perfect combination of durability and convenience.
The rugged, industrial-strength construction gives me peace of mind knowing my handguns are well-protected, while the customizable pluck-to-fit foam allows me to adjust the interior to fit my specific needs. Additionally, the built-in pressure release valve ensures that I don't have to worry about altitude or temperature changes affecting the case's integrity.
Overall, the Plano All-Weather Two Pistol Case is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a reliable and secure solution for storing their handguns.

🔗Tac-Six 55" Lockable 2-Firearm Tactical Gun Case

https://preview.redd.it/eo6zbbvjjx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ea6858ef25549f6b42d18d619f06e3301cae9b5
I was always on the search for a reliable gun case that could not only handle the weight of my tactical rifle, but also provide the necessary organization and customization options for my accessories. The Tac-Six 55" Lockable 2-Firearm Unit Tactical Gun Case made me feel confident with its durable 600D polyester construction, ensuring my valued gear was well-protected from the elements.
One of the standout features of this tactical gun case is its spacious interior, which comfortably fits two tactical rifles. Coupled with its lockable design, it has given me peace of mind when storage security is a priority. The laser cut MOLLE system truly takes this case to the next level, as it enables me to efficiently attach and customize my essential accessories, making it easy for me to switch up my gear as needed for various situations I may encounter during my travels.
While the Tac-Six has proven to be highly versatile and reliable, one minor downside is the limited number of color options available. However, considering the quality and functionality of this product, it remains a top pick for any serious tactical shooter or outdoorsman.

🔗Durable and Secure M1919 Gun Case by Pelican

https://preview.redd.it/29lhbk3kjx3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=483bd2bf2726f2846b1157b639199f801bb8a102
I recently got my hands on the Pelican iM3300 case, and I must say, it has been a game-changer. This case was designed to keep my M1919 machine gun and all of its accessories perfectly organized, and it has exceeded my expectations.
The first thing that stood out to me was the custom foam. It fits the M1919 like a glove and has designated spaces for each part. Once everything is set up, it's a thing of beauty. No more rummaging through a jumbled mess looking for a specific part.
The case also has six press & pull latches, which are super convenient for quick access during shooting sessions. They're reinforced for maximum strength, so there's no worrying about whether the case can handle the weight of the gun and accessories.
One of my favorite features is the Vortex Valve. It helps keep the case dry by releasing pressure without letting water inside. This is especially helpful when I'm transporting it in rainy weather.
However, despite its numerous positives, the iM3300 isn't perfect. It's quite heavy, even when empty. Though it has in-line wheels for easy transport, it can still be a struggle to move around, especially on uneven surfaces.
In conclusion, the Pelican iM3300 case has been a reliable companion for my M1919 machine gun. Its custom foam, reinforced latches, and Vortex Valve make it a standout in the world of gun cases. Just be prepared for the weight if mobility is a concern.

What features should I look for in a 1911 gun case?

  • Durability: The case should be robust and able to withstand impacts, moisture, and general wear and tear

How do I choose the right size gun case for my 1911?

Make sure to choose a gun case that fits your specific 1911 model, checking the dimensions provided by the manufacturer or retailer. Account for any accessories you may wish to store within the case, such as additional magazines or cleaning supplies, to ensure they will fit comfortably. It's always a good idea to double-check the measurements and compare them to your 1911 before making a purchase.

How can I secure my 1911 gun case?

Can I store other firearms in a 1911 gun case?

However, it is important to verify the dimensions and compatibility with other firearms before storing them in a 1911 gun case, to ensure they fit securely and are not damaged.

What is the difference between a hard-shell and a soft-shell gun case?

  • Hard-shell gun cases: These are made with rigid materials like aluminum or polymer, providing excellent protection from impacts and harsh weather conditions. However, hard-shell cases may be heavier and bulkier than their soft-shell counterparts.
  • Soft-shell gun cases: These are made from flexible materials such as nylon or polyester, offering a less cumbersome and more compact transport option. Soft-shell cases also tend to be less expensive and easier to store when not in use, but may not offer the same level of protection against impact or moisture.

How do I clean and maintain my 1911 gun case?

To clean your 1911 gun case, it is recommended to use a mild detergent or soap dissolved in water. Gently wash the exterior surface using a soft cloth or sponge and rinse thoroughly with water. Air dry the case or use a soft towel to pat it dry. Regularly inspect your gun case for any signs of wear, damage, or loose stitching, and have it repaired or replaced as necessary.

How should I store my 1911 gun case?

When storing your 1911 gun case, it's essential to keep it in a cool, dry location, away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. This helps prevent damage to the exterior material, as well as preserving the interior padding and protection for your firearm. Additionally, make sure to store your gun case securely to prevent unauthorized access, and consider installing a security system or lockbox for added protection.

How much do 1911 gun cases cost?

The cost of a 1911 gun case can vary depending on factors such as the materials used, brand, and features offered. In general, you can expect to spend anywhere from $20 to $100 or more for a quality 1911 gun case, with premium cases featuring advanced security or customization options potentially costing more.

Can I customize my 1911 gun case?

Some manufacturers offer custom gun cases with personalized features like embroidered logos, unique color schemes, or specialized compartments for specific firearms accessories. Visit a reputable retailer or check the manufacturer's website for available customization options and pricing.

Top 10 Movies to Watch When Working From Home
Working from home has become the de facto standard for companies these days which means things might get monotonous for you folks at times. In case you have a spot of time on your hands while taking a break, here are the top 5 movies to watch while working from home:

Top 10 Movies to Watch When Working From Home

1. Trading Places (1983)

I gleaned the plot of this entire movie with just a single easter egg from the movie "Coming to America" starring Eddie Murphy. I'm not saying the plot of Trading Places is that simplistic, but the movie was that popular and well-executed.
https://preview.redd.it/tb1o1qu4ex3d1.png?width=417&format=png&auto=webp&s=29362d29a4c7987f88bf113a8b4ff3fd5fb9398f
This movie revolves around two wealthy commodities brokers who run a social experiment on two people from different strata of society to settle the nature and nurture debate. Unbeknownst to them the two subjects of the experiments have plans of their own to turn the tide in their favor.
Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche play the role of the Duke brothers, the steel-hearted multi-millionaires who think it fun to play around with the lives of Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy as Lois Winthorpe and Billy Ray Valentine.
There is a lot of buddy comedy material, a cliche yet, well-done storyline, and an expected redemptive story arc.

2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

In case you ever feel like taking a personal day off work, this is the perfect movie to watch. The plot here revolves around a slacker who fakes being sick to go on a joy ride through the city.
https://preview.redd.it/hw5bpateex3d1.png?width=893&format=png&auto=webp&s=f9a408b9e096c5c5a2504387904bb6cd13612663
Mathew Broderick plays the role of Ferris Bueller who convinces his best friend and girlfriend to play hooky while going on an elaborate adventure. There's juvenile behavior, childish pranks, great music, and one awesome Star Wars reference.
https://preview.redd.it/wa67x8tgex3d1.png?width=875&format=png&auto=webp&s=02d6cb7fa9b2d002a4fe03b24dbbe918d94b1248
There have always been theories of Ferris being the split personality persona of his best friend Cameron played by Alan Ruck. Another theory speculates that it is actually Cameron's fever dream, imagining the whole day while being sick at home.
This movie is part of pop culture and is hinted at in the Deadpool movie end credits as well.
You might like Aachar & Co. Depicts the Middle-Class Family as the Comedy Lead

3. Tommy Boy (1995)

One of the better movies by David Spade, Tommy Boy is a buddy comedy with a Laurel and Hardy dynamic, graced by the comedic stylings of Chris Farley.
https://preview.redd.it/rgowtn1jex3d1.png?width=428&format=png&auto=webp&s=a0e2180804bb6834b772961c54aa154ec4ea09e1
Chris Farley plays Tommy Callahan III an easygoing goofball who rides on his industrialist father's (Big Tom) coat-tails until he dies unexpectedly thrusting the son into an unwelcome position of responsibility.
Meanwhile, Tommy gets a stepbrother in the form of Richard played by David Spade. As fate would have it, Tommy and Richard need to join forces to save Big Tom's manufacturing plant by getting a big sale order.
Find out Why Two and a Half Men is a Tragic Series with a Laugh Track
Tommy recognizes Richard's finely tuned people skills and puts them to work in procuring a massive sales order to save his father's manufacturing plant and legacy. The movie is a fun-filled road trip that sees the step-brothers forming an unbreakable bond while battling a common problem.

4. Office Space (1999)

The dry humor in this movie is as applicable today as it was when it was released. The employees are frustrated, the boss is a gigantic douche, and growth prospects are non-existent.
https://preview.redd.it/26qglralex3d1.png?width=482&format=png&auto=webp&s=ee95f6b0d79671c53a17868eebf782bb3c3bd4c1
This is not a movie that goes with the laugh track approach wherein the comedy is obvious like in Horrible Bosses. Dark humor is employed in this movie. If you are feeling frustrated at work, then this movie might be highly cathartic for you.
All employees are seething with contempt for their jobs, workplaces, and everything related to those aspects. It is incredibly funny and reminds you of Dilbert comic strips.
Violence against people is not funny. Violence against malfunctioning technology however can be very entertaining as seen below. One of the central themes of the movie is the faulty printer that jams and swallows essential documents at crucial times.
You might like The Marvels: An Unexpectedly Fun Ride
This is what inspires the trio of employees in this movie to vent their pent-up anger against an inanimate object as if it messed up on purpose. You can see how this plays out in the images given below where they take the evil printer to an isolated location and take turns eviscerating it.
https://preview.redd.it/rr5pm81oex3d1.png?width=912&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb638220bd4f442bb923c8ae9339f659914d2399
This movie has been a cult classic for quite some time with references to it in pop culture. Anyone who has watched The Mandalorian will know the reference to TPS reports by Bill Burr in one of the episodes.

5. Being John Malkovich (1999)

One of the most John Malkovich of all Malkovich movies is undoubtedly Being John Malkovich. This movie has the titular actor playing a fictionalized version of himself although the more you watch the more you feel this is him in real life.
John Cusack plays a failing puppeteer who finds a physical door that leads into the mind of the actor John Malkovich after which you can experience life in the actor's body.
https://preview.redd.it/8tvwmlmqex3d1.png?width=405&format=png&auto=webp&s=1464632c74c8f4c8fca563070c149dfc2ef90730
You BECOME John Malkovich.
Catherine Keener plays Cusack's love interest Maxine and Cameron Diaz plays the third locus in this love triangle. There is also a cameo by Charlie Sheen which is interesting.
You might like Examples of Mindfulness and Emotional Awareness in Movies
The sheer absurdity of the movie makes it funny at the beginning, but as the film progresses relationships get knotted with each other, taking a really dark turn. This is a movie that needs to be experienced without a plot summary giving things up.
However, Catherine Keener takes on movies relating to mind control such as in Jordan Peele's Get Out and Brad Bird's Incredibles 2. For some reason, this sends a chill down my spine - does she know something we all don't?

6. School of Rock (2003)

One of my all-time favorite movies is this Jack Black vehicle that feels like his personality made into a movie. Jack Black plays Dewey Finn, a wannabe rockstar who is down on his luck and living with a dweebish roommate Ned Schneebly played by Mike White.
https://preview.redd.it/9yenrzysex3d1.png?width=425&format=png&auto=webp&s=b4beb1ebff0361fd551da33bbd9fe08b6b016088
When Finn gets kicked out of his band, he stumbles upon an opportunity to impersonate his roommate as a substitute teacher at a private school for substantial money. As he goes about pretending to be a teacher he finds that the kids in his class have exceptional musical abilities that he immediately plans on exploiting for money.
However, while chasing money, Finn forms a genuine bond with his students, helps them overcome their challenges, and finds his purpose in life.

This movie has great music, an amazing comedic cast, and original songs, and one of the few to have inspired a successful musical and a not-so-successful series.

7. Yes Man (2008)

A down-on-his-luck man sinking into a self-destructive spiral of despair and negativity comes across a self-help program that changes his life. Jim Carrey's overacting is put to good use in this movie where Carrey learns to say YES to everything in his life - to hilarious effect.
The images given below show the moments when Carrey is introduced to the concept of saying yes, when he meets the semi-cult self-help leader, and when he is taking action as a Yes Man. ( Saying yes to all that life has to offer)

What will you learn from this movie:
  • All skills you pick up from random workshops will be directly useful in everyday situations ( Re: Slumdog Millionaire)
  • Take things literally at first when attending a self-help workshop

8. Up in the Air (2009)

George Clooney at his dramatic best is something you wouldn't wanna miss. As an instance of the old ushering in the young at a corporate workplace, this is insightful and entertaining at the same time.
Clooney serves as a contrast against the vulnerability of a corporate drone while being considerate to the people he fires - for a living. The tables are turned however when a young ivy-leaguer decides that the company needs a makeover.

The cinematography is great in this movie, with beautiful aerial shots and stills portraying silence and contemplation. They explore loneliness and self-discovery in Up in the Air.
This is a quiet movie with a slow pace and great acting. You get to see many metaphors play out throughout the movie.

9. Horrible Bosses (2011)

Taking the a**hole boss stereotype to the max, Horrible Bosses is a laugh riot with a lot of physical comedy and dirty jokes aplenty. Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day play Nick, Kurt, and Dale, the hapless employees with a monstrous boss.

The comedy in this movie is due to the great chemistry shared by the three actors shown below. They always end up quarreling and at each other's throats, but make it through dire straits through sheer dumb luck.

Anyone looking for a whole load of laughs will find this movie delightful, with Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, and Julie Bowen adding to the comedy.

10. The Intern (2015)

Nancy Meyers always makes pleasant movies, leaving you feeling all warm and fuzzy by the end. This movie is no exception with Robert De Niro playing a man (Ben) who thinks that "he still has music left in him," and Anne Hathaway playing the role of a young CEO (Jules) running a growing e-commerce start-up.

The movie brings both the actors together by having DeNiro volunteer as a Senior (Citizen) Intern at Hathaway's company. De Niro and Hathaway form an unlikely bond that enriches their lives and watching this happen onscreen is a genuine joy.

You also get memorable performances from comedy regulars such as Adam Devine, and Zack Pearlman, and a great cameo by Rene Russo. One of the cutest actors in this movie is JoJo Kushner playing the adorable child of the CEO and she does an amazing job, adding to how warm and fuzzy the movie makes you feel.

Is it OK to watch TV while working from home?

Now, this is an interesting question. The purpose of this post is not to make you drop all you're doing and start streaming content.
In case you are on a break from work (Lunch/Tea) or experiencing unexpected downtime, then it's good to have a backup playlist of movies. You can stream a show or watch part of a movie when you are taking a break from work tasks.

What should I binge-watch while working from home?

If you are working from home, then I would advise you not to binge anything during work hours and even during your off-time. Binging content means spending more than an hour of your time watching consecutive episodes of a show or two complete movies back to back.
Binge-watching is best done over the weekend when there's no other good alternative such as hanging out with your friends.

2024.06.01 11:10 Witty-Awareness9276 California State Clep Pathway starting at 13 yrs old.

If your child does not plan to attend the UC system or Stanford they only need to take 30 classes in order to attain 90 credits of their degree at a state school (SF State, Chico State Etc.)
The example of college classes for SF State is broken down here SF State CLEP Breakdown on College Board which is updated here on SF State website and you can use any of the State websites they should all have this information. Accepted CLEP exams on SF State website. Now when you look at a degree path for any undergraduate program you will have a group of core courses that are mandatory which are basically a repeat of what you take in high school. So for the first two years of college you are repeating the 10th through 12th grades.
You have English and composition, Social Sciences, Math and Science that make up your core classes. **Hold on I read the fine print.**
At SF State there is a cap on Exam Credits at 30 Credits. (There are many liberal arts online colleges that don't have a cap)
None of their CLEP exams satisfy the Area A requirements.
So 30 credits is one year of schooling of which you can satisfy GE requirements.
Area B: Scientific Inquiry and Quantitative Reasoning – 9 units minimum
You cannot take a Lab for CLEP so B1, B2 and B4 requirements can be met, but you may have to take a class with a lab in order to complete the requirements for your program depending on your major.
Biology5033B2 Calculus5033B4 Chemistry5033B1 College Algebra5033B4 College Algebra - Trigonometry5033B4

Natural Sciences5033B1 or B2 Pre-Calculus5033B4

Trigonometry5033B4
Area C: Arts and Humanities – 9 units minimum
You can definitely satisfy the Humanities, and possibly two of the other arts requirements for the C section so two classes from this section definitely so 6 credits.
American Literature5033C2 Analyzing and Interpreting Literature5033C2

English Literature5033C2

Humanities5033C2

Western Civilization I5033C2
Area D: Social Sciences – 6 units minimum
This entire section can be resolved for GE requirements of 6 credits.
American Government5033D+ USG

History, United States I5033D+ USH History, United States II5033D+ USH

Introductory Psychology5033D Introductory Sociology5033D

Principles of Macroeconomics5033D

Principles of Microeconomics5033D

Western Civilization II5033D
So that is definitely 21 GE satisfying credits that are fully transferrable to the state school level. SF state caps Community college transfer credits at 70 credits that is 90 transfer credits all together leaving just one year at State in residency. You can take another 3 classes as CLEPS but they would probably be applied to electives, but you can take CLEPS in your child's field of interest. That would mean less classes at the Community College or 4 yr level. So if a child is going into business and clep out Principles of Marketing for example.
If your child begins and has the rigor they can fill their schedule with CC classes and then fill the rest of their time with CLEP tests. If they are going to school concurrently then where I am they can start at 15-16 at the CC. They then have to take the scraps of classes not filled which can be difficult to plan out.
If there are others out there who see what I may have missed please let me know.
