Title + a few extra questions. I scrolled through the sub and tags about layoff unemployment but I don't know if I have everything I need/what to include in my appeal so any help would be appreciated. Sorry this is super long, I just want to make sure I didnt exclude any info that couldve been the reason for my claim getting DQ'd.
I was laid off back in Feb as a part of a mass layoff, and my last day on payroll was in early April. I applied for unemployment at the end of April, and submitted a request to backdate my claim by 2 weeks after finding out I was eligible for unemployment- I moved here from out of state in August for my full-time job, and didn't know I was eligible since I don't have a state ID, but had established residency by living and working here. The backdated claim was approved saying I had a good reason to backdate, and also said the law that applies are: RCW 50.04.030 and WAC 192-110-115. I was told I have until June 3rd to submit my weekly claims for those weeks, but I didn't see a section to file my weekly claim for those weeks in the website, just for my current weekly claims- So that's my first issue- idk how to get my Backdated Claim logs submitted (the option was not available before or after my DQ).
I had also submitted a request to do a combined wage claim for Washington and the state I lived previously where I was working part time, but I got a letter from Washington saying my state reported no work history for me. I have my W-2 to prove otherwise, and I don't think that had anything to do with my DQ since I was paid my first unemployment check the next week, and the amount I received was based only on my Washington income, but I'm not sure how I should go about appealing to see if I could still do a combined wage claim. It's a bit confusing since I was a student full time from Jan-May, but I was only part time <12 credits from May through December when I completed my program; neither of the laws cited mention anything about my enrollment so I don't think that was one of the issues for the DQ. The quarters my benefits are based on are July-Sep and Oct-Dec. So my second question is should I submit that appeal for a combined wage claim and just include my W-2 from my previous state, or do I need to provide more information in that?
As far as benefits and the DQ, I had received my first unemployment payment last week, but a few hours later I got a notification that I was disqualified for unemployment and I have no idea why - it cited the same laws as the backdated claim that was approved- RCW 50.04.030 and WAC 192-110-115. When I looked it up in the subreddit and on the website, it just sounds like the first one is for when someone files for unemployment while they're still employed, or dont meet the minimum 680 hours requirement in the base year. My official last day of employment and paycheck was April 3rd (I did receive a severance payment 2 weeks later for agreeing not to open an employment lawsuit in the future), and i applied for unemployment starting the next calendar week April 8th. I had worked for >800 hours over 20 weeks from Aug-Dec in Washington alone since I was full-time (not including hours from my other state or from Jan-Feb/April). I still don't 100% understand the hour eligibility across states/in state/across quarters but my point is I definitely had the minimum 680 hours.
Again I was also laid off not fired, it was a mass layoff where my role is eliminated and not replaced and not performance based. I have also been able and available this entire time, actively applying and interviewing for roles, logging that in my weekly claims etc and have not turned down any offers for work. I am also not on standby or anything.
That all said, idk what exactly to include in my appeal, I'm not even sure if I 100% understood the laws that they cited / what that correlates to. Right now I just am thinking I should include my dated layoff letter as additional documentation and maybe a link to a news article referencing the layoff, since I didn't include that documentation in my initial application, but I don't know if I need to include more information based on the cited laws, my part-time school, or out of state stuff?
Sorry again I know this is a ton of info, but any advice on these 3 issues would be greatly appreciated before I try to submit my appeals for anything

I'm about to finish my 11th and final year as a public school elementary music teacher. I spent most of my years at a very high needs school with extreme behaviors. I'm moving on to teach private music lessons in my home.
Today I wrote the terms and conditions for my music lessons website, and it was incredibly freeing. I added a discrimination and harassment policy, and the ability to terminate lessons for cause. Cause includes student or guardian being difficult or disrespectful to the space or teacher. I know that I'm truly lucky to get to go this route, and that it is a risk. It just feels so amazing to put up my own boundaries and have the ability to enforce them.
Good luck fellow teachers looking for something different. May we all find something that let's us live more on our own terms and conditions.

I completed the whole housing application/contract. Do any current students or staff know how long it takes for the application to get processed? On the housing website, it says we’ll be given the option to select our rooms on July 8, but I don’t understand how that’ll work if we’re being randomly paired with other students in an LLC; how would two roommates choose the same room before meeting each other? This isn’t an urgent question since enrollment is so far away; I’m just curious.

Google search is not giving the answers I am looking for and I have totally forgotten how admission works for universities in Gujarat since I have graduated half a decade ago and moved to a different country. My younger sibling recently gave JEE and GUJCET and I am trying to figure out the universities where he'd be eligible for admission based on these metrics. On Google they are showing rankings as high as 400-2000 for universities like Nirma and PDPU and I don't think these universities have students with such high ranks in JEE as these candidates would all prefer higher ranked IITs and other top universities. I am not able to find anything on official websites of these universities either.

I’m an international student and recently started looking for some casual work. My visa allows for unrestricted work hours in Australia.
So after uploading and applying for more than 100s of job on Indeed, Seek and dropping resume in-person to nearby cafes and restaurants, I noticed that the few places willing to accept me is paying 16$ per hour or less.
The Fair Trade Australia website shows “As of 1 July 2023 the National Minimum Wage is $23.23 per hour”.
Is it normal and allowed here in Sydney to pay less than the minimum wage? The trend seems to be same everywhere near my place not just one or two restaurants/cafes.

G’day guys, I am a psychology and criminology student, I wanted to see if you guys knew of a platform, data base or website, I can use to research and find cases I can use for case study for specific crimes and deviant behaviours. Eg if I search cybercrime I can have cases regarding that offence and preferably the court documents for the prosecution of the offender.

I've been teaching online periodically these past 4 years, and solely online this past academic year. I'm teaching an accelerated course online in a few weeks and will teach online fall quarter. I love my career, but I don't enjoy teaching online at all.
I've never felt confident with my presentation of lecture material in my online classes. I'm redoing all of my lectures for summer term because I must. State law is requiring that all colleges offer the introductory psychology series in 2 quarters rather than 3 quarters. Yes, in 20 weeks instead of 30 weeks. And no, we aren't adding more credit hours to the courses. This nightmare will require a massive amount of work from psych faculty. I want to cry just thinking about this.
Do any of you have any recommendations for books/websites/journals about teaching online in higher education? I've done 30 hours of training about online teaching. But I need to feel more confident in how I present lectures online, esp now that I have to condense so much material. I feel that my students deserve better. And I deserve to feel more confident in my online classes.

I am confused about filling out the questionnaire to extend my student visa.
Scenario: I came to canada in 2022 with a study permit then in 2024 I renewed my study permit which is valid till Nov 2024. I am currently enrolled as a full time student and I want to extend my visa (inside canada).
These are the questions I'm confused about. Even though I answered them, I need a suggestion from you guys.
Q1 : Do you have a provincial attestation letter? A:No
Q2: Do you qualify for an exception? A: Yes
Q3: Which exception do you qualify for? A: I am an applicant applying within Canada as described under section on Regulations (IRPR)
Note: according to the IRCC website “if you meet an exception,you must provide any evidence in the client information field”
What should I upload there as an evidence?

Fuzzy expressions, articles that don’t make sense and obscure teachers 🥲 . In the IB there isnt a more elusive subject to score a 7 in than among English (maybe Physics!). As a student I never scored above 14 on my papers and tbh I just never really took English lessons seriously (if* I’ve spoken it all my life so I should be good right?)*. I’m sure you can also relate that the subject also just felt really fluffy and to me; unlike sciences or maths with a detailed syllabus and clear way to progress.
Until one perspective shift transformed my English grades, allowing me to eventually score 19/20 in my final exams:
In Biology, you don’t get marks for describing the lungs as the “breathing organ”, you need to use the actual terminology “lungs”. Along with that, you also need to understand its function, how it relates to the rest of the body, etc.
This is how you progress in IB English, through an effective mastering of the Literary Devices. These are the incremental building blocks, the ammunition you use to attack whatever random unseen text they throw at you in the exam. Similar to studying the lungs in biology, you must learn to Recognise, Explain, Link and Draw implications of using different literary devices in different contexts. How does it reveal authorial choices, and why it is effective for that specific issue being conveyed? This extends to both the IO and Paper 2 aspects as well!
I promise that if you focus more on HOW a text is written (authorial choices) more than WHAT it is about (only the messages), you will see your writing improve dramatically from poor retelling essays to analytical and insightful arguments.
TLDR;
If you feel stuck or unable to progress in IB English, change your approach from just understanding the text for what it is into actually explaining WHY and HOW it is written, using the literary techniques as your building blocks for arguments.

Scoring 19/20 English Paper 1 and a 45

Hey y’all! I am thinking about going to school with GI Bill and cannot figure out how the BAH works as it pertains to my situation. I am thinking about taking some classes to finish my degree, preferably hybrid enrollment since I work full time and have kiddos, etc., but can take classes on nights, weekends and online. How many credits would I need to take? The VA website says 12 per semester, but how does that work with one or two in person classes and one or two online classes at a time? So basically if I took one class in person and one online, I know that would consider me an in person student for BAH purposes, but would I be full time, part time? The program I’m looking at also has atypical semesters with 7 and 8 week classes. I’m not sure if I am just missing something or what, but thanks for your patience. I just can’t seem to figure it out. I’m really just curious to see if I can scale back my working hours a bit to focus a more on school, while still providing for my family appropriately. Thanks for the help!

Forgive me if this question should be asked elsewhere but I could really use some advice.
I’ve been a journalist full time at the same company in Huntsville, Alabama for the last 3 years. I started out at my university newspaper in 2013 before graduating and moving to New Orleans where I wasn’t able to book work consistently enough to truly say, “I’ve been a journalist for the past decade.” There was a 1-2 year period where I thought I didn’t have what it took.
My current situation has been very satisfying from the beginning. My boss owns a magazine and a business journal focused on Huntsville and the surrounding area. Most of the assignments have been limited in the amount of exposure you could ever expect as with most other community based journalism but Huntsville is also home to NASA and Redstone Arsenal. It requires more effort a long with putting yourself out there much more consistently, but any determined journalist can find stories locally that will generate readers far beyond the city and state lines.
In August of 2023, I had an instance where my luck and determination peaked at the same time when I was able to track down the son of a former Chinese immigrant turned Huntsville scientist, Dr. Ning Li. She wasn’t famous, not even among most Huntsville residents, but in the early 2000’s she had a run of published papers that made her extremely well known in the science community and even resulted in publications like Wired running multi page spreads about her work on anti gravity technology. I’m going to be REALLY short here but she seemingly disappeared after leaving UAH to start her own company for her research in 2002. Records show initial funding from DoD but the paper trail ends there and she never had a public appearance again.
Eventually this “disappearance” was noticed and some reporters were asking about her publicly at the time, but no sure fire answers ever came. This, along with some public rumors of her defecting back to China with US secrets, eventually resulted in a large community of people who were still asking for answers 20 years later in the form of YouTube videos (Barely Sociable had a big one with 2+ million views) or various science / conspiracy based websites. It only grew as more people started making claims that a lot of the UAP reports being publicized described technology that seemed to resemble her initial theory that gained promise.
I was able to track down her adult son’s phone number. After a series of phone calls over the next month, I gained his trust and was invited to his home where he was able to give me all of the answers except ones about the success of her research on her top secret work funded by the DoD. He didn’t know if she was ever proven right or wrong because she worked at the Arsenal every day until the day she was struck by a car driven by a student on UAH campus. She suffered a TBI that immediately rendered her as if she had late stage Alzheimer’s. Never spoke again and he cared for her around the clock until she died 6 years later.
He was unable to learn anything further about her work, but he gave me a lot of information that wasn’t known at the time and I was able to fully disprove any rumor of her turning traitor to the US for a return to China.
I published the story and it did really well in mid-late 2023 amongst the crowd who already knew of her obviously and the regular Huntsville readers of ours found her life story very interesting. It was immediately the most successful story of my career as other reporters were making stories about the fact that I was able to solve her mystery. It died down like I figured until 4-6 weeks ago.
The UAP disclosure hype has resulted in more people talking about her than ever before. I’m hearing my name and seeing my picture on videos with over 1 million views for the first time ever.
I was very happy but didn’t think it changed much for me because it’s not like it could grow more realistically. Until Joe fucking Rogan reads pretty much the whole story and talks about it for 5-10 minutes on the podcast with largest following in the world.
My excitement turned to disbelief that day and it’s still crazy to think about sometimes. I never realistically thought I would write something that would generate traffic numbers around 5-6 million readers on a single story. That number is over course of 8 months which is very far removed getting those same numbers in the span of a week but the increase in exposure has been noticeable in my inbox ever since the Rogan podcast.
Noticeable enough that it feels like I’m very possibly having a moment before it’s just a moment before THE moment if that makes sense.
I haven’t had any career advancing job offers but there’s been some who have reached out in support to suggest various story topics that run parallel to that story as follow up ideas. Maybe I’m overestimating here but I feel like if I capitalize on my recent success correctly, I could see my career advance a step farther than I thought was possible for the year of 2024 when it started.
But…. I’m not at all sure how of the specific road map that could achieve such a thing. Yeah, I proved I can put together a story that results in traffic from both readers and “cultural trendsetters” but only once.
If anyone has ever been in a similar position, I would love some advice on the best way to turn this exposure into interest from publishers 1 step up the totem pole from where I am now. That also applies to people who haven’t been in this position, the more feedback I can get, the more prepared I feel I can be.

Hi! I’m currently a university student on summer vacation right now. I want to take advantage of this time to become more productive by developing a daily routine. I want to improve on my drawing and design skills, continue working on my personal business and website, complete daily tasks and find some time to work on my hobbies. My main focus is also to lose weight. I have been working out and dieting for about a week and would like to stay consistent throughout the next few months. I’d also love to improve on my mental health, and losing weight would help me feel better about myself.
