2024.06.02 17:31 wahoo77 Trip Review: Cappadocia and Istanbul

My wife (26F) and I (27M) just finished a week-and-a-half trip to Turkey and wanted to share our thoughts for anyone considering a similar trip.
We went to Cappadocia first and stayed in Göreme at Carus Cappadocia. Definitely a bit of a splurge of a hotel for us, but it was 100% worth it. The breakfast was outstanding, there were lots of spots to sit down outside (including the rooftop) and take in the natural beauty, and the shower was so luxurious. We stayed for three nights, so we had three mornings to have a shot at the hot air balloon ride. The first two days, the rides got cancelled due to high winds. The authorities are pretty strict about wind speeds and will cancel if it's not safe. We were fortunately able to do it our last day, and it was easily the highlight of the trip. The views were stunning and there was something magical about being 1,000 meters in the air with a bunch of other hot air balloons. We chose Turquaz Balloons and highly recommend them. And yes, both Göreme and the hot air balloon ride are built for tourists. We were surrounded by other tourists during our time here, but it was not at all "touristy" in an unpleasant way. The area is both beautiful and has really interesting history. For a "tourist town," we really enjoyed it.
We were debating between two or three nights in Cappadocia, and in hindsight are so glad we did three. We met some others who only stayed for two nights and missed the hot air balloon ride, which apparently isn't that uncommon.
We did two hikes the other days, in addition to the Göreme Open Air Museum. The museum was fascinating, and the Dark Church was completely worth the extra 6 euros per person as we loved the Byzantine art. The hikes were phenomenal and also quite distinct given the close proximity. We hiked from Göreme to Love Valley for one, and did the Open Air Museum back to Göreme for the other one, going through Meskendir Valley, Red Valley, and Rose Valley. We did have to re-route when we encountered a barking/growling dog in another valley by the Göreme Open Air Museum (not any of those mentioned above). Wife wanted to continue on, but I'm a little more risk-averse and we enjoyed the alternate valleys above.
The calls to prayer were a bit of a culture shock. We had to get used to them going off at 4am, but we were able to fall back asleep. Additionally, we ate at a few restaurants where we took our shoes off, sat cross-legged on cushions at a low table, and listened to music totally foreign to us. We liked the different cultural experience, but can see how it can be a major culture shock for some people.
We spent five nights in Istanbul. We stayed at the Doruk Palas hotel, about a 5-minute walk from Galata Tower. The hospitality we received from the folks there was simply unparalleled with anywhere else we've stayed. They took a genuine interest in ensuring their guests had an enjoyable time in the city. The location was also great. We could walk to many destinations (and accrued >20k steps/day) but taking transit was also super easy. We also saved some money by being willing to walk 5-10 minutes from Galata ToweIstiklal Street. The Galata Tower area definitely has its share of tourists, but doesn't feel touristy in the same way that parts of Sultanahmet/Old City do. We packed quite a bit into our five days, but these were our favorite experiences:
The food in Istanbul was absolutely fantastic. It almost seemed like when we didn't have a 10/10 meal, it felt like something was wrong. A few standout restaurants:
Dinner: Pera Antakya and Zeytuna Cezayir'de
Lunch: Falfool Vegan House (best falafel we've ever had), Çeşni (if you're in Üsküdar and looking for a low-key local, family-run place), and Kebapci Kadir (another very local, low-key place where the owners spoke no English but the food was excellent)
Dessert: Asmali Bakery (we went here every night for baklava and cake, but they also had the best simit of anywhere we tried) and Vanilin Chocolate (in Kuzguncuk)
We didn't have any meals in Sultanahmet since we'd read it was overpriced and less local. Also, one thing we've learned is that Google reviews only correlate with our enjoyment of restaurants to a certain point. We went to a coffee shop with 4.9 stars on Google and had a meh experience, but went to a lunch spot with 4.1 stars and loved it. Our favorite dishes (and I know all of these are not exactly Turkish) were simit, baklava, kebab, the endless bread, dondurma (Turkish ice cream), mezze plates/hummus, and dürüm (wraps). Oh, and the breakfast! It was so refreshing to not have a bunch of sweet/dessert foods first thing in the morning. It was very heavy on mezzes and dips, roasted vegetables, eggs/egg-based dishes, meats and cheeses, and breads, which I loved.
I learned some basic words, phrases and numbers in Turkish before coming and am glad I did. It wasn't 100% necessary, but restaurant employees appreciated it. At a few places, the employees/owners knew almost no English, so knowing numbers really helped, but we also relied on Google Translate too.
We only had one significant regret: we had a few hours to kill before a Bosphorus boat ride, so we decided to get drinks on the rooftop of Barnathan Istanbul. We waited 20 minutes to get two meh cocktails and paid $37. I get that we were paying for the view, but we got basically the same view at Galata Tower itself (if not better, since it's 360 degrees) plus the exhibits. This was definitely a touristy experience in the negative sense.
We were satisfied with the prices. In US dollars, each ride on public transit is about 50 cents/person. Meals varied from about $6 to $13/person, with our nicest meal being maybe $15-$20/person. We got simit from the street salesmen for 10 lira, or about 30 cents. We didn't love the entrance fees to the museums, but for what they provide, we thought it was worth it.
Never had any issues with scams/pickpocketing. Not only that, we never even felt close to being in danger or thought we might need to pick our guard up.
A note on the Istanbul airport: it's new and modern, but very large and far away from the city. It seemed like it was unnecessarily large, too. We felt very small walking through it, and it took forever to taxi on the runway (both coming and going). Also, we were very turned off by the prices at restaurants. I get that prices are always higher in airports, but paying 6 euros for an espresso shot and 8 euros for a latte is absurd. We chose not to buy anything.
Happy to answer any questions for those considering a trip or have one coming up! Overall, we absolutely loved both Cappadocia and Istanbul. We were looking for a different experience from western Europe (which is the only part of Europe we'd been to previously) and we got just what we were looking for.

2024.06.02 16:51 deepatx Souvenirs from Cusco

Hello. We would like to buy some local crafts from Cusco/ Sacred Valley to take back home to the US. We’ve purchased alpaca wool cardigan, caps (hopefully real wool) and small souvenirs from Chinchero. We’ve also got chocolate from Maras and from Cusco. Any other recommendations with approximate prices and places to buy ? We prefer to buy direct from the craftsmen rather than larger stores. Thanks.

2024.06.02 16:36 Frannie97 Beer-only reception?

Howdy! FH (42m) and I (42f) are eloping this month in a private courthouse ceremony.
We’re planning a smallish (50 guests) reception in our hometown this winter. My top pick for venue is a craft brewery in my old neighborhood.
It’s a really cool space, fits our vibe perfectly, and is extremely affordable. They do not serve food, so they’ll allow us to bring in essentially anything we want.
The catch is, they only serve beer. They do offer one seasonal hard seltzer and a hard tea, but that’s it. FH and I are beer drinkers, we’re fine with it. As are most of our guests. I know there are at least 3 “core” guests (close family) that don’t like beer.
We’re not having dancing, just a chill hang/socializing/catching up with hometown friends and family. We both have alcoholism running in our families, so we don’t want the focus to be on getting sloshed. We’re also well established, cohabitating adults who don’t need or expect any big gifts. I don’t feel obligated to provide wine or hard liquor.
We can bring all the NA drinks we want ie, sodas, mocktails, but no outside alcohol. I have a few beer cocktails in mind that I’ll bring ingredients for, as well as a NA punch bowl. Food-wise we’re thinking either gourmet pizza and salads (like a solid level up from normal pizza) or a fry bread taco buffet, both of which would pair well with beer.
My question / maybe deal breaker for this venue is this: If you were a non-beer drinker invited to this venue, would you be upset about not having alcoholic alternatives to beer? Should I compromise on the things I love about the venue in favor of one with a full liquor license/bar? (I do have one in mind but it’s about double the cost plus having to buy off their catering menu, and it’s less central to the area most of our guests are coming from)

AITA for Taking My Husband's Property and Comparing My Husband's Strange Hobby to Infidelity?
Originally posted to AmItheAsshole

My husband and I have had a rocky marriage and are going through a divorce. I have long suspected him of infidelity, because he travels constantly, leaves at weird hours when home and even had 3 different women file police reports against him a few years ago. Charges got dropped and I eventually believed he was a victim of a witch hunt and moved on. We tried to be civil for the holidays for our respective children (we each have two children from previous marriages but none with each other).
My daughter was with her bf on X-Mas but came home for NYE. My husband was still at work while we were getting ready. I needed some red wine to make some sangria and asked my daughter to get it out of my husband's room in the cellar where he stores our alcohol. She came back 10 minutes later and looked really worried.
I asked her what was wrong and she handed me a small pouch. She said that she jostled the liquor storage cabinet a bit and it fell to the ground. Apparently it was tucked between the liquor storage cabinet and the wall. She opened it up and showed me what was inside. It contained eight women's driver's licenses. I noticed that they all were from states that my husband had traveled recently for work in the two years before the pandemic (he is a medical device salesman). I was worried that he had been a serial adulterer and got these women to give him their driver's licenses as trophies after having sex. I brought it to my lawyer's office today and gave it to her secretary, who said she would pass it along on Monday. I was hoping this could be a smoking gun of proof of infidelity for our divorce proceedings.
I confronted my husband about it this afternoon. He said that he had a confession. He said that he had a fetish for driver's licenses and would buy them from random women when he went on trips. He admitted it was bizarre, but said that there was something erotic about holding something that left someone else feeling so vulnerable. I said that I was upset and that this was very creepy. I said it was also like cheating on me to get off to some weird fetish like this without sharing it with me first.
He got very upset. He admitted that he should have been more open about something that he was struggling with, but that it was completely out of line for me to accuse him of cheating based on this. He also said that he would burn the driver's licenses in the furnace later that night. When I told him that I had given them to my lawyer already, he completely lost it. He said that I had no right to steal his personal property like that and couldn't even be around me. He packed some clothes, got into his car and took off. Based on what he said and packed, I get the feeling he won't be coming back.
I'm not sorry he left, since I can't stand him these days. However, I partly feel like he had a point that I shouldn't have compared his weird fetish to cheating or given his property away to my lawyer when it might be evidence of such.

After bidding goodbye to Woodhouse and exiting my subconscious, I entered my Inner Sanctum and noticed that the grandfather clock had just a couple of minutes remaining until midnight. As I was debating if I should exit the Dreamland or not, the clock struck midnight. The computer dinged a little melody and began installing the updates while I amused myself by watching Happy Memories on my inner television. My 7th birthday was especially happy, with the entire family gathering to celebrate.
The lights in the sanctum flickered, drawing my attention to the computer.

I woke to the smell of Delilah cooking over the campfire and peered at the screen blocking my vision making note of the changes and resolving to dig into them further when time permitted. For now, most things seemed to be instinctive instead of needing a mental trigger to function.
That’s a good thing, because I’m horrible at stuff like that.
Dismissing the screen, I rolled over and inhaled deeply. It smells like breakfast will be wolf-skewers and coffee, once I get up and make the coffee. Crawling out of my tarps, I grunted a good morning to the Elf and set about making a pot of coffee.
“You drink coffee?” I asked, wondering how much to make.
Delilah shook her head. “Too bitter,” she replied.
After setting the tin coffeepot next to the campfire to boil, I began packing my things away, stowing them in the inventory space contained in my saddlebags. My Auric sight spotted a silvery thread leading from Delilah into the trees where I spotted Beatale after a few moments of searching. His golden eyes met mine and blinked slowly before returning his attention to scanning the area.
Ten minutes later I was sipping a cup of hot Joe and my morning grogginess had mostly passed.
[Ding! Mana-infused meal consumed. Credits +5]
Nice. Looks like I earn experience just by eating the things that try to eat me.
“How did you become a Summoner?” I asked Delilah when I was half finished my coffee.
“My tribe sacrificed mana cores to Llewellen, goddess of the Tengaoi,” She said, looking puzzled. “Much like Humans sacrifice to their gods, pay gold to those who build the wizard towers, or improve themselves with meditation.”
I sipped my coffee and thought about that. Seems it’s not unusual for someone to spend money to buy Apps and Utilities.
“What about upgrading?” I said, being vague on purpose. She obviously got my meaning, because she answered without hesitation.
“Using your Skills and Abilities increases their limits and accumulates Toh, which can be sacrificed to the Goddess for advancements.”
“What about mana cores?”
“That is only for those without Toh,” she replied. It seemed that you had to buy your way into the club, then you paid for the membership with credits.
Looks like anyone wealthy enough can game the system to start with, but they still have to level up the hard way.
As we talked it became apparent that people earned one experience per day from the day they were born and could sacrifice it at a temple to choose a class when they came of age at 15 years. Calculator told me that 5850 credits were available to spend at age 15 and a quick check of the maths showed that I received credits equal to my age, if the years were 390 days long. Which they were.
“I’ll be heading to Wendleton,” I said, changing the subject. “What are your plans?”
“I am returning to my tribe now that my quest is complete,” She hesitated then stood and removed a leather necklace that featured a large tooth as its centrepiece. “Please accept this. It will guarantee hospitality with the Tangaoi tribes, and some measure of respect with other Elves.”
Accepting the necklace from her hands, I placed it around my neck. “Thank you,” I said. “It’s always nice to have friends.”
She nodded and summoned her mount with a bone totem, saddled it, and mounted a few minutes later. “Safe travels, Vinnie.” She said. “Perhaps we will meet again.”
“Safe travels Delilah,” I echoed. “I hope we do meet again.”
A faint smile crossed her lips before turning her horse and cantering down the trail.
“Well, Horse,” I said after she had disappeared into the distance. “Looks like it’s just you and me now.”
Horsey thoughts filled my head, with distinct overtones of fresh oats. Laughing, I promised him some once we made town. Extinguishing the campfire, I stowed away the remainder of my gear, swung into the saddle, and trotted down the overgrown road.
An hour later the arid scrubland had given way to a rugged grassland filled with clumps of evergreen and other hardy species of deciduous trees. It was nothing like the Colorado I knew, a completely different environment than I was familiar with. The miles passed slowly and after another hour I could make out a caravan of wagons ahead of me. I quickly caught up with them and gave them a jaunty wave as I passed. They were quickly left behind as Horse trotted tirelessly down the road.
Mostly tirelessly. It was 10/hour of battery for standby or a walk, 15/hr for a trot, and 25/hr for a gallop. I wasn’t about to ruin my arse galloping to town, so I settled for cutting the time in half. I’d arrive around noon.
The closer I got to Wendleton, the denser the trees became, shifting from hardy evergreen to those more suitable to a temperate clime. The grass and underbrush also became thicker and greener, filled with vitality and suggesting that this area received more rain than the previous. Looking back, I could see that my altitude had been dropping as I rode. It wasn’t perceptible while I was riding, but from a distance I could tell that I had descended several hundred feet in elevation.
I pulled up [MAP] and began to construct a backstory for myself. Memorising a few cities between the city-state of Wendleton and the Colonial port city of New Frankfort, I wove a tale of a restless traveller from Colonia seeking his fortune in the Midlands. It was flimsy as discount toilet tissue, but hopefully it’d endure a few proper wipes until I got some sort of identification.
After covering miles of dusty road filled with deciduous trees, I began seeing verdant farmland and quaint hamlets close to the road, and reached Wendleton around noon.
The imposing walls encompassing the city greeted us from afar, their sheer magnitude commanding attention even at a distance. Wondering why they were built got me thinking; those walls weren’t just for show. They stood about fifty feet tall and were some thirty feet thick, solid enough to make you wonder what they were really keeping out. And they weren't just bare walls; they were decked out with towers and old-school battlements, giving off serious medieval vibes.
Yet, what truly captured my attention were the scars that marred the surface of those walls. These scars, bearing witness to bygone conflicts, whispered tales of valour and triumph. Each mark seemed to echo the city's rich history, as if its very narrative had been etched into the stone. The sight was nothing short of mesmerising, offering a glimpse into the storied past of Wendleton.
Traffic was flowing in and out of the gate without any obvious security or tax checks in place. Two guards dressed in chainmail armour stood by the gate, with a short sword at their waist and a shotgun slung over their shoulder. They eyeballed me as I slowed Horse to a canter and stopped in front of them. “I’m looking for a quiet place to stay a few days,” I said.
They looked at one another. “The Green Pig,” one said. “Tell them Martin sent you and you may get a discount.”
“Or they may charge you double,” the other guard laughed, slapping his comrade on the shoulder. “But yeah, you should be alright.”
“I’ve taken the scenic route from New Frankfort to get here,” I said, planting the seeds of my new background. “Do I need to register anywhere?”
“Not unless you want citizenship,” Martin said, scratching under his leather cap and examining his fingernails. “You can talk to someone at the Governor’s office about that.”
After getting directions to both places, I thanked the duo and made my way to the suggested inn.
The city inside the walls was a strange mixture of Spanish and European medieval, the buildings built mostly from brick and wood, with lots of wrought iron and balconies. The cobblestone streets rang under the hooves of wagons carrying goods from one place to another while pedestrians crowded the wide sidewalks. Horse navigated the streets and dodged the occasional street sweeper removing dung and other debris from the cobblestones.
Hats were everywhere, as were big bushy beards and thick moustaches. Women wore dresses that hung to just above their ankle while most of the men were dressed similar to myself with linen pants and shirts, with vests and jackets being worn more often than not. All in all, my impression was more of an old western city than some medieval European city.
The scream of a whistle startled me and I quickly located the source of the sound, a genuine steam locomotive pulling out of the local station. As Horse moved down the road under his own guidance I watched the train pull away, hauling passengers and freight to some distant destination.
A few streets later we were in front of a cozy looking tavern with a freshly painted sign bearing the trademark of the inn — a prancing Green Pig.
A few horses were tied to the hitching post outside so I did the same for Horse, wrapping his reins loosely around the rough wood while he dipped his nose into the water trough and drank deeply.
“Don’t wander off,” I said, patting his flank as I headed towards familiar saloon doors that were a staple of every western movie ever made. Pausing, I waited for someone to be tossed through them, then entered with only a slight disappointment that no one had been hurled into the streets. The interior was an eclectic mix of Old West and Medieval, wooden walls decorated with the skulls of strange animals, booths that lined the walls and smaller tables set in front of a large fireplace that featured an oversized mantle. A wide bar took up the rear of the room and the wall behind it was covered in shelves of liquor, with a large mirror featured prominently in the centre. Narrow stairs next to the bar led up to a balcony above where I could see several more tables and a hallway that led into the recesses of the building.
Everyone looked my way as I stood in the door before rejoining conversation with their companions or turning their attention back to the food in front of them. The smell of some meaty stew filled my nostrils, causing my stomach to growl and remind me it had been many hours since my last meal.
Making my way across the hardwood floor to the bar, I plastered a smile on my face and spoke to the skinny bartender pouring a pint from the taps. His hair was greying, as was his moustache, but only a few crowsfeet gathered around his eyes when he returned my smile. “Martin said this would be a good place to stay a few days while I’m in town,” I said.
Light from the door flashed across his glasses as he looked me over. “That it would,” He replied. “Clean bed, two meals, two bits. Or three silver a fortnight.”
I pulled three silver from my inventory and placed them on the smooth surface of the bar, their sudden appearance causing his eyebrow to arch.
“A fortnight then,” He nodded, pushing the pint at me before drawing another. “Something to cut the dust, mister…”
“Vinnie,” I said after draining half the pint. “Vinnie Carter.”
“Lucas Steele,” the barman nodded. “Don’t mess with the girls, breakfast at dawn, dinner at dusk, lunch is two brass. Brass for a beer or whiskey.”
I materialised four brass coins and pushed them across the bar. “Lunch and another pint.”
“Give me a minute and I’ll get everything sorted,” He said with a smile, scooping the coins up.
Nodding, I turned my attention to the patrons in the inn, watching them eat lunch and converse with their companions. Some appeared to be haggling over business matters and I pegged them as merchants or some other related class. My eye caught a man standing near the door, staring at posters on the wall. Wanted posters. Finishing off my pint, I walked over and had a look at them myself.
The man was dressed similar to myself, with a light jacket instead of a vest. Red embroidery accented his black jacket, thorns crawling up the lapels and circling around the collar. He was older than me, maybe in his 40s, face tanned from a lifetime spent in the sun and weather.
“Vinnie,” I said, touching my hat. “Anything good?”
He looked me over and turned his attention back to the posters. “Silas,” He responded. “I’m thinking about going after Blackheart Bill.”
I looked at the wanted poster in question, offering 280 silver for Bill and 20 silver for each of his gang, dead or alive.
“I’m new to the profession myself,” I said. “Any pointers you’d care to share?”
Silas looked at me and smiled. “Shoot first,” he said. “Everything will sort itself after that.”
I laughed, a cheerless sound as I was reminded that I had chosen the profession of psychotics for some reason. Did I really have it in me to be a Bounty Hunter? Was it too late to pick Cowboy? I stared at the posters on the wall, imagining my new life, hunting men and killing them.
For some reason, the thought didn’t bother me much. Maybe it was the difference between imagining it and the reality of a dead body in front of me?
“How green are you?” Silas asked.
“Green as grass,” I admitted.
Silas snorted. “Can you handle that hogleg?” He said, indicating the Mongoose at my hip.
“Still learning,” I said. No sense in talking myself up when I had no clue as to what was average around here. “Any suggestions for my first bounty?”
Silas looked me over with an appraising eye. “Ride with me and we’ll collect Blackheart Bill.”

2024.06.02 14:38 Kagura95 Has anyone tried Bulkpowders' Black Forest Gateau whey protein?

I've been meaning to get it since I'm running off of protein, and even though I could buy a flavour I know I like (like chocolate cookies), I'm kinda growing tired of the same flavours and I wanted to try something new.
So I was thinking about black forest gateau since it sounds good and I read some good opinions (also a bad one, but I guess it's very subjective). The only thing is I'm scared I won't like it, I once bought the cherry bakewell protein from Bulk and I ofund it so desgusting I had to throw it away, and it's a bummer when it happens.
Any advice?

2024.06.02 11:25 Hromis Japan impressions/recommendations

Me (28) and my wife (27) just returned from our 3 week holiday in Japan (12-31 May), I would to share some of my thoughts after the trip. We managed to visit quite a lot of places - Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Nara, Himeji, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Mt. Aso area, Kurokawa Onsen, Takachiho Gorge, Kanazawa, Tokyo, Fujikawaguchiko and part fo the Nakasendo trail (Magome to Tsumago). With all that being said, here are some of my impressions/recommendations.
  1. We flew into Osaka, so I bought ICOCA at Namba station and it's absolutely fantastic! You can pay with it for public transport in most major cities. Just one exception, we took a bus in Kanazawa and apparently some of the companies don't accept IC cards, so make sure you have enough cash with you for buses in that case. We didn't (We had only 5000 yen banknote so this was actually a problem).
  2. We bought JR West All Area pass for 7 days which was absolutely worth it! We chose the option to retrieve the JR pass from a machine in Kyoto station and we actually had a big problem with that. We forgot the card with which we paid for the JR pass at home, we had in only virtually in our phones. It turned out that you are unable to retrieve the tickets withou having the card physically so what we had to do was to buy new JR passes and ask for a refund for the previous ones (which JR West kindly accepted). It actually says that you have the card with you when you are buying the JR Pass, to be fair, but just wanted to let you know that if you don't have the card, there is no flexibility and you will not get your JR pass.
  3. USJ was kind of disappointing. We visited when the Flying Dinosaur was closed for maintenance and the rides were honestly not that good. Mario Kart and HP: Forbidden Journey were very well done, but except for that, there was only the Hollywood, which was good as well, the waiting line was almost always more than 100 minutes (We went on Tuesday).
  4. Every place in Japan has lots of regional souvenirs, you can go to almost any small town that is at least remotely interesting for tourists and they will have cookies/chocolate/tea/t-shirts etc. in regional colors. And not expensive at all! Japan is really great for souvenir shopping.
  5. Kyushu's nature is absolutely breathtaking. We rented a car for 2 days and went from Fukuoka to Mt. Aso, spent the night at Kurokawa Onsen and the next day we went to Takachiho Gorge and back to Fukuoka. The nature was absolutely incredible, everything was so green and beautiful. We were kind of sad that we had to leave Kyushu as there was so much more to explore there and everything looked awesome. Just a side note, if you're coming to Takachiho gorge and plan to rent a boat, make sure to do it beforehand. We arrived on a weekday at about 11AM and the only boats available were for 4:30PM.
  6. Kaiseki dinner is not for everyone. :) We stayed at a ryokan in Kurokawa Onsen and a part of the stay was a kaiseki dinner. I knew I would probably struggle as I don't eat fish and seafood, which turned out to be true. There was virtually nothing to eat for me except for a few vegetables and slices of beef meat in a hot pot. For the breakfast, we received a rice porridge with a side of plain rice, which we found quite weird, haha.
  7. Kanazawa was fantastic - there was almost no one in the castle area, we also visited the Nagamachi District, which looked just like Kyoto but with no one in there.
  8. Batting cages are awesome! This is one thign that we really enjoyed even though me and my wife never actually played baseball and baseball is not really popular in our country. There is a big one in Shinjuku, where we went three times, then once in Fujikawaguchiko and once in Osaka Round One. Cannot recommend enough.
  9. Magome is awesome, if you have the chance, definitely visit this little town! So many cute shops and nice people, plus the nature is astonishing. Definitely recommend, even though it takes a little effort to get there!
I guess that's more or less more, I am already looking forward to another trip to Japan, there's so many interesting places to visit! Hopefully Tohoku and Hokkaido next time!

2024.06.02 11:13 Different-Reality-62 36% milk chocolate brownie gluten free

I recently had 36% milk chocolate gluten free brownies from a cafe and it's one of the best moist brownie I've ever had. I have tried searching the internet for that recipe, found two recipes, but it's not gluten free (I tried making it, but didn't get the exact same taste, texture and moistness). So if you guys know any milk chocolate brownie gluten free recipe, please do share. I don't want to buy every time when I crave those brownies.
Thank you in advance.

2024.06.02 10:52 Informal_Way_2105 Didn't binge yesterday..but

Hi guys, hope you're all doing well.
I need some people to hype me up as i didnt binge yesterday at all!! I was proud of myself but my father didn't seem to he when i went in for an ice cream cone (after dinner, which was not much)
Tbf i actually had very little food yesterday and i wanted something sweet after dinner like a normal person but he was like you had loads of food today and i was like you were with me the whole time..no i didnt...and he was like what did your mother and i talk to you about..you're not listening..you're making yourself worse..
Then i was about to say night to my mother and then she said that i need to start counting calories and looking at the packaging..and i was like its not about looking at the calories for me it's trying not to eat copious amounts of food when i feel emotional or sad or happy or nervous. She didnt believe me and i asked for help but she said idk what to do, I'll take your money away so you wont sneak and buy yourself all those chocolate bars you sneak and i just felt like shit...
All because i wanted something sweet after dinner.
Food triggers:
All i had yesterday was:
A sweetchilli wrap, pepsi max, natural yogurt with clusters
Bbq :1burger, 1 sauage
ice cream cone
Just need someone to tell me im doing good and not make me feel like shit.
I am really trying..thanks

2024.06.02 09:32 JournalistBorn5715 I feel weirded out

So, I went to a local shop yesterday and I was in a hush since it was late I was also carrying a lot of stuff, so it was messy for me. There was this guy maybe 12-13 or same age as me (he looked kinda like a kid) who entered the shop as same time with me. Without thinking much, I began to buy the stuff I wanted, and this guy passes by me, and his hands literally touch my back?
Uhh maybe the shop was crowdy so there must be a mistake nothin much, but again for 2-3 times he touched me at my back. Atp I was ignoring him thinking he mistakenly did that. Then I went to the refrigerator to take out some chocolates and I'm like minding my own business and this boy!! he comes and stand just behind me and when I turned, I literally bumped into him. wtf!!?
I was now at counter and shop was almost empty so there was plenty of space to stand and while I'm there he once again comes and stand right beside me and touched me. Mfker really annoyed me, but I had my lil bro with me who was literally annoying me to go home so I left asap.
What triggers me is that this guy is literally 12 y/o or at least not older than 14-15 and he tried to harass someone in a crowded place.
I should've broken his balls, but I was left with no energy + my lil bro annoying me to go home

2024.06.02 09:15 shiba_boba Thoughts on fixing a toxic, long-term relationship (23 F, 23 M)? Let go or keep trying?

background of who we are: I (23 F) have been dating my bf (23 M) for 3 years now. This is our first serious relationship (for both of us), who are both inexperienced for our age. We met in college and have been dating postgrad for almost 1 year. During our first two years, we were always together in dorms so we basically lived together. Postgrad we still live close enough, so we see each other often. Because our parents live far from us, we spend a lot of time and we feel like we are family to each other.
The issue is that the relationship has been quite toxic despite all the lovey-dovey good times, yet we are unable to let each other go.
I was emotionally abusing him: The reason why this relationship has gotten toxic was partly because of me, and I grieve about it. I had a lot of issues navigating through the relationship these past 3 years, as I did not come into this first relationship with the right idea about healthy boundary and self-control. I am severely anxiously attached, causing me to do things that categorize as mental abuse. He is rather avoidant (but originally more on the secure side) to begin with than I am, so I could imagine how hard it was for him to deal with my actions. I did not give him the right space he needed, told him what I wanted him to do, and suffered from terrible mental instability as well as lack of emotional control during arguments an as the result "burst" all the time. Very recently, after 3 years, I finally became mature enough to realize what I had been doing things wrong, and that this is not what a healthy relationship should look like.
he created triggers in me: Ironically, the first two years of relationship was what exacerbated my anxious attachment. We started relationship at the wrong time (when it shouldn't have started), and as the result I lacked trust in him and developed a severe lack of self-esteem back then. He repeated behaviors that made me lose self-esteem even more a few times over the span of 2 years, but I chose to stay (which I shouldn't have because I did not have maturity to be emotionally responsible with my decision). He was also not a type of boyfriend to be able to do the "boyfriend" stuff (buy flowers sometime, buy chocolate etc) in the beginning. I do not want to say that all boyfriends should do that, but what became a trigger for me was the fact that I had to beg and cry to him to get him buy a flower for me on our first Valentine's Day. Now that he has learned, he is the sweetest boyfriend everyone admires, but the beginning of our relationship stayed in my heart that I became overly reactive to his lack of "proactiveness" and emotionally abused him for that as the result.
issue: I see a clear negative loop between me and him since the beginning of the relationship. The past one year, I wish I could have done things differently because I feel like my lack of emotional control (sometimes due to the trigger, but mostly my own issue) was unhealthy for him. Of course, we love each other so much (used to be enough reasons why we both stayed despite all the fact above), he has done so much for me to show me his love and gain my trust, and it feels amazing when we are just hugging things out for a moment.
We had another argument last month, that ended up terrible because of my lack of emotional control. Every time we argue intensely, he dumps all of his stress about this relationship that he tells me he cannot be himself with me (which make me think was your words and action not genuine.?) and then give me silent treatment. I am aware that this relationship is not going well anymore (or maybe it never was). As much as I understand where he is coming from, it is also very difficult to accept the reality especially since we are very lovey-dovey when we are not fighting.
Due to a circumstance (unrelated to relationship), we cannot talk much for the next 3 weeks. He might decide to break up with me finally this time after 3 weeks. However, based on our past, it might not be the case (we are both not brave enough to let it go). We surely loved each other (that's why we stayed this long), but we hurt each other so much as well. Especially this past one year, I was the one who hurt him more (and as the result he would burst with emotions and give me silent treatment, so it hurts me as well).
Now that I recently became aware of my own issues (and I am really really trying to mature), if I were to move on and start a new relationship I fell ready to choose and build a healthy one. But a part of me still strongly dreams about talking things out and continue working on it with him if he also wants to.
What should I do? I would really appreciate any advice or stories about you if you had gone through similar situations in the past.

🔗Reliable, LED Distress Flare for Safe Navigation

As a boater, I've always been wary of traditional pyrotechnic flares for safety reasons. That's why, when I came across the ACR ResQFlare Electronic Distress Flare & Flag, I knew I had to give it a try. This innovative device has been designed to provide a safer, more reliable alternative to traditional pyrotechnic flares and can even be carried in lieu of them.
What stood out the most was the 360-degree visibility from over six miles away. Not only did it provide excellent visibility during emergencies, but it also had a significantly longer burn time than traditional flares. Its lightweight, compact size, and floatability made it incredibly easy to use – all while being fungus, corrosion, and water-resistant.
The ACR ResQFlare also comes with a distress flag, which, when carried together, qualifies as a replacement for traditional pyrotechnic flares. It's a perfect addition to any ditch bag, especially considering that it doesn't go out of date, saving me time and avoids the hassle of replacement.
One downside I faced was the lack of a lanyard attached to the device. While it floats upright in water, there are better options available that might be more visible in daylight compared to the ACR ResQFlare. However, as a safety device, the ACR ResQFlare still gets the job done without the risk of fire or injury.
In conclusion, the ACR ResQFlare Electronic Distress Flare & Flag is a great addition to any boater's safety arsenal. It's easy to use, safe, and provides excellent visibility during emergencies. Its longevity and added convenience make it a worthy choice as a replacement for traditional pyrotechnic flares.

🔗ACR ResQFlare Electronic Distress Flare Kit for Maritime Safety

As someone who spends quite a bit of time on the water, I've often found myself worried about carrying traditional pyrotechnic flares due to their potential hazards. That's why I was thrilled to try the ACR ResQFlare E-flare and Drybag Safety Kit. This handy device is an excellent alternative - it's compact, easy to use, and most importantly, safe.
One of the features that stood out for me was its daytime distress flag. This flag is bright and noticeable, ensuring that I could be seen even in daylight conditions. Carried together with the ResQFlare, they meet the applicable U. S. Coast Guard requirements, making them a reliable safety tool to carry on my boat.
Of course, like any product, there are a few aspects I would have liked to see improved. The ResQFlare could benefit from a more durable design, as the plastic casing feels a bit flimsy. Additionally, considering the cost, I would have expected the kit to come with more than just one distress flag.
Overall, the ACR ResQFlare E-flare and Drybag Safety Kit has become an essential part of my boating gear. It provides a safe and effective way to signal for help in case of an emergency, and I feel more confident knowing I have it on board.

🔗Premium Extend-A-Fender Flares for Ultimate Tire Coverage

I recently added the Bushwacker 20971-02 fender flares to my car, and let me tell you, they looked pretty good on there. These flares are a bit on the thin side but once I installed them, they felt pretty sturdy.
The biggest downside was the rubber weather-strip, it kept falling off and seemed to be made of a poor quality material. I ended up having to call Bushwacker and they sent me a replacement part.
Overall, I'm happy with the product, but I wish the rubber weather-strip was of higher quality.

🔗Bushwacker Max Coverage Pocket Style UV-Protected Fender Flares

I've had the pleasure of trying out the Bushwacker Max Coverage Pocket Style Fender Flares, and I must say, I'm impressed! These bad boys add an extra 2.25 inches of tire coverage from the wheel well, which is perfect for my truck's bigger tires and wider wheels. The aggressive off-road style they bring to the table is truly one of a kind.
The fender flares install easily right out of the box, and they're built tough with Dura-Flex 2000 material. It's wrap-resistant and boasts added durability and flexibility on the trail, thanks to its thick construction. Despite their rugged appearance, these fender flares are a piece of cake to install without any drilling, and they blend in seamlessly with the rest of my truck's bodywork.
Sure, there can be a few minor hiccups in painting them to match your ride, but overall, the Bushwacker Max Coverage Pocket Style Fender Flares are an excellent investment for truck and SUV owners looking for enhanced tire coverage.

🔗Versatile 3/32" Thick Acrylic Sheet for Bulk Purchase

I recently got my hands on a 3/32" thick Cast Acrylic sheet, measuring 6" wide and 6" long. As someone who appreciates the unique blend of function and aesthetics, this product was a delight to work with. With its optically clear nature, it allowed me to create projects that were visually pleasing while maintaining strength and durability.
Despite being quite small, this sheet still served its purpose well in a variety of applications. Its moisture-resistant properties ensured that my work kept its clear edge even in humid conditions. The fact that it's thin made it lightweight to handle and easy to cut, making it a favorite for my DIY projects.
However, it's worth mentioning that while the product is strong, it might not be ideal for projects requiring extreme durability or heavy-duty usage. Additionally, if you're planning larger projects, you might find that ordering these sheets in bulk would be more convenient.
Overall, this Cast Acrylic sheet proved to be a reliable and versatile tool for my crafting needs. Whether you're a hobbyist or a professional, this product could have a place in your toolbox.

🔗Clear 1/4 Inch Thick Acrylic Sheet for Glass Window Replacement and Various Applications

I recently gave the SOURCEONE. ORG Premium 1/4 Clear Acrylic Plexiglass Sheet a try in my home renovation project, and let me tell you, it was a game-changer. I used it for my kitchen window replacement, and it offered the perfect balance of durability and style. The clear 1/4 inch thick acrylic was incredibly easy to work with - I was able to saw, route, drill, form, bend, and even cement it without any hassle.
The result? . A stunning, sturdy window that has held up great against the outdoor elements. The best part? .
It's lighter and stronger than glass, making it an excellent investment for any outdoor application. Highly recommend! .

Just a few weeks ago, I stumbled upon the Bushwacker Extend-A-Fender Flares. I had been looking for a durable and stylish fender flare for my Chevrolet truck. With Bushwacker's reputation for quality and performance, I decided to give them a try.
First of all, installing these flares took no more than 10 minutes, even for someone like me with minimal car modification experience. One look, and I was sold on their sleek and modern design, perfect for my truck.
What stood out the most were the materials used. Dura-Flex 2000 material offers durability, flexibility, and built-in UV protection. It's safe to say that these flares have become an integral part of my truck's exterior, and the 2.25-inch tire coverage is just an added bonus.
But what sets them apart from other flares on the market is the fact that they resist chalking, cracking, and warping. I've had several cars and trucks over the years, and this is the first time I've found a product that genuinely stands up to wear and tear.
However, one downside I noticed was that the flares' finish seemed to get a little scuffed during the installation process. But since they're sold in an OE matte black finish, it blends in quite nicely. If you're someone who likes to personalize their look, you could always paint them to match your vehicle's color scheme.
All in all, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Bushwacker Extend-A-Fender Flares have been a game-changer for my car's overall appearance and performance. Highly recommended for anyone looking to upgrade the look of their vehicle.

Recently, I stumbled upon the Umootek 3 Pieces Acrylic Sheet Clear Cast Plexiglass 12 x 12 Inches Square Panel 14 Thick (6mm) Clear Plastic Plexi Perspex Plate Panel. Fascinated by its unique design, I decided to give it a try in my daily life.
What stood out to me the most was its strength and durability. As someone who loves DIY projects, I appreciated that this product could be heated and shaped without breaking it. It was also incredibly easy to cut through it, leaving no traces of cracking.
The transparency of this acrylic sheet was exceptional, and its light transmission properties made it perfect for displaying delicate objects. In fact, its smooth surface and high hardness made it an ideal replacement for glass, allowing me to create a custom protective cover for my aquarium.
However, one downside I noticed was the thickness of the acrylic sheet. While it was strong and durable, it also made it a bit cumbersome to handle during certain projects. But overall, my experience with this acrylic sheet was pleasant, and I appreciate the versatility it offers for various applications.

Oh, the Ferrero Collection Advent Calendar! . It makes me reminisce of my childhood.

But don't think these treats are just for kids. The sophisticated combination is perfect for adults to enjoy.
Just looking at the elegantly crafted chocolate gifts is like savoring the promise of indulgence that awaits each day until Christmas. Each piece, from the decadent milk chocolate to the divine dark chocolate, is a testament to Ferrero's dedication to quality.

I recently came across the R600a refrigerant, a life-saver when it comes to refrigeration units that require this specific type of refrigerant. The size of 14.8 ounces or 420 grams made it perfect for my needs, fitting nicely in my refrigerator.
The EPA's approval of R600a and its adherence to the regulations in 40 CFR Part 82.17 provided me with peace of mind. Using it as per their guidelines gave me confidence in the product.
One of the standout features for me was its purity, boasting a 99.7% pharmaceutical-grade quality. This high purity level ensured the efficient functioning of my refrigeration unit, and it didn't disappoint.
However, there was one downside that I encountered during my use. Despite the decent amount of refrigerant provided, it didn't last as long as I desired, and I had to make more frequent replacements than expected.
Overall, while the R600a refrigerant did its job in keeping my refrigerator cool and maintaining a consistent temperature, I wish it lasted a bit longer.

I recently gave the Fab Glass and Mirror Plexiglass Sheets a try, and I must say, they've been a game-changer in my daily life. These sheets provide a clear and sturdy alternative to glass, and I've found that they're ideal for a variety of applications. Whether I'm crafting a DIY photo frame or creating a chic welcome sign, the plexiglass sheets never fail to impress.
The most impressive feature is their durability. They've withstood quite a few knocks and scrapes without showing any signs of wear and tear. And the best part? They're just as effective outdoors as they are indoors, making them an excellent choice for a wide range of applications. The clarity of these sheets has also proven to be a major selling point. They allow light to pass through effortlessly, making them perfect for display cases and signage.
That being said, I did experience a minor drawback. The sheets do tend to attract dirt easily, which can be a bit of a hassle when it comes to cleaning. Overall, however, the pros far outweigh the cons, and I'd definitely recommend these plexiglass sheets to anyone in need of a clear and sturdy material for their projects.

🔗Cricut Acetate Sheets for Cutting Plotters: 12x12cm Transparent Sheets

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Cricut Acetate Sheets, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint! I was working on a project that required some extra-clear stencils, and these sheets were the perfect solution. The best part? They worked perfectly in my Cricut machine without any issues.
The acetate sheets were incredibly easy to use, and the stencils I made came out looking flawless. I especially loved the protective film on both sides of the sheets, which kept them looking pristine until I was ready to start cutting. The acetate itself was crystal clear, making it a great choice for any project where a clean and precise cut is essential.
However, I did notice that the acetate can be a bit fragile if not handled with care. I had a few accidents where the sheets scratched or got a few small dings, but luckily, they were easily fixed with a bit of polishing. Overall, I'm thrilled with the Cricut Acetate Sheets and will definitely be using them in future projects. Highly recommended!

🔗Powerful Honda-Engine Aerator for Lawn Maintenance

My first experience with the Billy Goat PL1800 Mechanical Aerator was nothing short of impressive. The powerful Honda GX120 engine, offering up to 118cc, makes short work of those pesky aerating tasks, clearing up to 22,000 sq ft with ease. Its foldable handle truly comes to the rescue when it comes to transporting this beast between jobs, as well as providing a compact storage solution when not in use. I was amazed at how effortlessly it maneuvered over rough terrain, thanks to its 12-inch semi-pneumatic tires that add not just stability but ease of operation as well.
However, there were a couple of cons I noticed too. The maintenance aspect, although easy with one-piece removable covers, could be more convenient with a bit of tool-free access. Also, this behemoth could do with some noise reduction – a feature that would be welcomed by any lawn-loving neighbor. All in all, it's no wonder why this PL1800H model is the go-to choice for many lawn enthusiasts. Yes, it's a bit noisy, and the maintenance might be slightly tricky at times. But the power, the maneuverability, and that green, lush lawn it provides? Worth every penny.

🔗Versatile Cricut Clear Acetate Sheets for Creative Projects

These Cricut Clear Acetate Sheets were recently making a major splash in my daily crafting routine. Perfect for stamping, embossing, or cutting, these sheets have become indispensable for my creative projects. Not only have they found their way into crafting gift boxes, they also came in handy when I was making custom window cards for friends' birthdays. One of the key selling points of these sheets is their anti-scratch film, ensuring that the product remains in prime condition till the very end. With their ability to work seamlessly with Cricut machines or any other sturdy crafting machinery out there, I knew I had stumbled upon a product that would become a staple in my craft room for ages to come.
The user-friendly aspect of these sheets was definitely a standout feature. Not only were they easy to use, but they also made my project look so much better in an instant. In terms of drawbacks, there was a minor issue with the sheets potentially scratching easily especially after the protective film was removed. However, with a bit of extra care during handling, this was something entirely manageable.
My experience with these sheets was absolutely fantastic! They have been the perfect addition to my crafting arsenal. Their versatility never ceases to amaze me. No matter what project I throw at them, they always seem to pull through with flying colors. I highly recommend investing in these sheets for your next project, no matter what it may be.

2024.06.02 04:52 cassiopeia843 New (?) Oat-Free Glutino Sandwich Cookies!

I just wanted to look up the nutritional information for Glutino's Super Stuffed Chocolate Vanilla Creme sandwich cookies and saw that they have 3 flavors on their website that I've never seen before: Mint, Lemon Pie, and Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate. - And none of them have oats! Now I just need to figure out where I can buy them. Just wanted to share, since us oat-free folks haven't been getting a lot of new GF sandwich cookies.

2024.06.02 04:48 caudicinctus Ways to "pill pocket" gross protein bars without adding calories?

Right off the bat/INB4: I know that you can just buy protein powdeeat meat/eat nonmeat proteins/etc etc. I'm already eating a lot of dietary protein, but it's not enough and protein bars help me close the gap. Also, I already physically have them and have to do SOMETHING with them.
I have these peanut butter chocolate/chocolate chocolate protein bars and they are NASTY NASTY NASTY. The peanut butter ones have strong notes of cardboard, and the chocolate ones are like biting into a horrible block of congealed nesquick powder that got damp and turned into a brick at the bottom of the container. Honestly every protein bar I've ever tried has been similar. Fortunately they're small (like 4" long), but they're also dense. :( What are some relatively low calorie ways to mask the taste? I have to get them down.

2024.06.02 04:26 Ok_Mode_6503 One month today

So far I’ve been taking this pill for one month exactly. The first week I experienced extra thirst, some headaches that come and go, bloating, but also an increase in energy and libido. My period started one week after taking the pill. All symptoms went away except for bloating and thirst. First period came after one week on the pill. had a second period one week after my first period ended. They were very heavy for the first few days . The bloating has been the worst of all; I have gained a few extra pounds around my normally flat stomach. Today I am having my first depression day where I’m having uncontrollable sad emotions where I feel like I can’t function and am crying over everything for no reason. I did find having something to eat that is sweet, like chocolate does help my mood improve.
The bloating has been the absolute worst. I just feel full and big all the time , it never went away. My pants size DID INCREASE I don’t fit in my old ones. I look like an early pregnancy and it’s hard to hide my new belly, my family has commented that I’m looking a bit “chunky” although eating habits have not changed and if anything I haven’t been wanting to eat much and am eating less due to this.. I know this will react differently to everyone and it takes the body a few months to adjust!
Overall, it’s not bad but I have not tried any other birth control before so I can’t compare it. I just wanted to share my one month experience for others.
I am debating on not taking my pill tonight because of the bloating the bleeding and the fact that I’m gaining weight I can’t afford to keep buying new wardrobe

2024.06.02 04:20 Commercial-Meat1103 Why don't I enjoy eating sweet things anymore?

So I used to really like eating cookies and biscuits and cakes and chocolate but now I dont even feel like eating them anymore. Even when I do buy biscuits or something, like digestives mcvities which I used to love, I don't even enjoy it. I also bought chocolate yesterday and I didn't enjoy it that much either. I prefer eating cheese or pizza. Also I used to like crisps but now I don't even feel the urge to buy them anymore . Like I used to eat whole packet of biscuits and couldn't stop whereas now I eat like two biscuits and I don't even feel like eating anymore.
I am asking this question in good faith with no expectations.

2024.06.02 03:25 JohnnyAdler1356 Wtf should I do?

Im m24. So there is a grocery store near my house, I always go there after work to buy some food. There is a really cute cashier working there(I think she is a bit older then me like 25-26?) , she always smiles to me, we be been talking for several months now. Mostly small talk, she often initiated conversations herself, we were joking and laughing together sometimes. She even asked me why I’m sad a few times( I was just tired after work) I finally decided that today is the fuxking day to be a man. I dressed well, bought a good box of chocolates and decided to make a move. She was outside the store on her break. I approached her with a compliment and gave her the box. The reaction was positive, she thanked me and was smiling. I asked for her insta, she said she needs to grab her phone real quick, which she did, however, when she came back it looked like she felt really uncomfortable, she wasn’t smiling anymore. She gave me her insta very quickly , and then just walked away reaaaly quick without even saying anything. I can’t remember the last time I was so confused.. Im a grown up man and I can accept rejection, but wtf was that? like no way she was so nice to me all this time and didn’t expect me to make a move??Of course you can say that she was just friendly but I really felt that she was giving me signs….and her reaction was really positive at first… Like obviously I expected yes or no type of answer( yes - I ask her out, no - I do fuxking nothing and move on , I’m no creep) But she walked away so fast I didn’t even have time to say goodbye
You may think she just was shy, but from conversations we had before I can say she doesn’t look/sound like a very shy person . ( and we know each other for quite some time now)
So now I have no idea what to do..Should I text her? Should I talk to her in the store? What should I tell her? Or should I leave her be? I really like her , but I’m confused.
