2024.05.19 19:15 Upper_Ad5781 I've been really ill from the start off my exams to today what should I do?

It's all in the title during the first week of exams on Friday I woke up feeling like absolute shit and could hardly walk straight but I went in for my bio exam and had to leave halfway through the exam to throw up and whilst I got the time back I could hardly keep my head up so I wasn't able to put in my all the illness continued into last week and I threw up in multiple exams and I was almost disqualified from one because I had been told to take my sick bag and walk straight out if I felt like throwing up but to stay in view of the door into the exam hall and not move from there until an examiner had come out but this came from the main head examiner and because she wasn't in for one of the days the secondary head had to come in and once she understood the situation she let me off and took me to the toilet but I didn't get any off the time back as extra time in that maths exam. They also moved me right next to the door so I can leave if I feel the need to be sick
The doctors diagnosed me with acid reflux which is made worse by stress my Mum told them it was likely this which has annoyed me to no end because I feel 0 stress from the exams (It's a lot worse than this my head feels like it is being stepped on and it feels like every minute I'm awake it's getting worse) and gave me something to deal with the stomach acid which has helped with the vomiting but not much else I would take paracetamol for the headaches but the amount of paracetamol I have to take for headaches this bad makes the sickness even worse and the doctor has said not to take anything stronger than it. Towards the end of last week, I felt like I was recovering from it and so yesterday as it was my sister's birthday I went on a trip to London and today I woke up feeling just as bad as I did the day the illness started as if all of my energy was sapped out of me. This week I also the heaviest week of exams on my entire timetable with 3 exams on one day one of them being a core subject and the other being one I've never managed to get a passing grade in.
Sorry for the block paragraphs I just didn't know how else to put it any advice would be appreciated especially when it comes to how to manage revision.

2024.05.19 14:22 ranransthrowaway999 An Ode To Brylee: A Duolingo Story.

An Ode To Brylee: A Duolingo Story.
I only started Duolingo a month ago. I'm learning Japanese so that I can speak the language with my friends and family, who are in Japan at the end of the year. I was sufficiently motivated, of course; you had to be if you wanted to learn a new tongue and at my old age, I can genuinely impart that it's much harder than it would than if I were a young sponge, but unfortunately all that's left is this old crusty crab of a man. So I tried to set myself markers: "where do I want to be in a week's time" was usually what I asked myself and usually that would be enough. I'd clock in my 30-45 minutes a day, cursing through Katakana and rolling my eyes at the simplest mistake and usually, that was enough.
I was getting promoted on an almost weekly basis; I wasn't a great student or anything, but I did put my hours in and it's helped me stick to a routine of one or two Duolingo logins a day, a few lessons and some practice sessions in and I'd luck myself into promotion or even a top-three finish. Margins were usually razor thin, of course. At the lower league of Duolingo, they're probably not even enough to brag about, but it was enough to keep me engaged.
And then Sunday, the 12th of May rolled around and the weekly promotion happened. I was in the Sapphire League now.
I did one lesson (showed up to do just one and found myself immediately in the demotion zone, as is normal). I thought to myself "hey, this looks like it's going to be a challenge to get promoted". I saw people who already had 300-400~ XP fighting for the top three spots. It was almost daunting.
And then I saw this person at the top ... with 1300~ XP. At least double whoever is next. I was impressed. The reset had happened not even an hour and a half ago and this guy was top of the pack.
https://preview.redd.it/4gluj7580d1d1.png?width=245&format=png&auto=webp&s=38595e7c6a35789903d0c3a35fef83fbfc31a34a
Brylee. His name was Brylee.
"He must be powering through whatever language he's learning!" I thought to myself. "That's the kind of motivation that I'd like to have for myself!"
And then I thought to myself:
Why don't I have that motivation for myself? I'm putting the hours in: why not just put in a little bit more? I won't catch up with him, but you had to at least reach the promotion zone again, right? Or else you're not really trying.
So I tried. The 13th of May rolled around and instead of my usual 30 minutes, I set aside an hour for Duolingo. I thought to myself: I'm not going to catch up with Brylee; he's in a league of his own, but I want to get promoted.
I had a bit of a stumble, but clocked myself in at approximately 250~ XP. Just short of the promotion zone (8th or 9th at the end of the day), but I found myself satisfied.
Then I looked up again. Out of sheer curiosity. Brylee had rocketed to 2300~ XP. It was insane. The gap between Brylee and the person in second was now as large as the gap between the person in second and ... the rest of the table. I thought to myself again: this guy is in a league of his own, for sure. I then closed Duolingo and decided to fool around on Discord for a while ... but then there was a quiet period. For some reason or another, I was then compelled to open Duolingo again and saw that no one's positions had changed since I logged out before ... and the gap really wasn't that big between me and the guy in 5th. So why not go for it?
So I did.
I clocked in up to 380~ XP. I was in the promotion zone and in 6th by Monday's end (two people named Dawson and Sophie were moving up somewhat and I had to settle), but I was in the promotion zone now. I was a little pleased with myself, I had to admit, but I had no idea what would happen the next day.
The day is Tuesday, and Brylee had surged ahead a little more. He was at 3000~ XP. The gap between him and everyone else seemed to be widening by the blink, I kid you not. More urgently, however, I found myself back in the "stay in Sapphire League" zone. I cracked my knuckles, popped open a bottle of root beer ... and worked. I don't know how long I was at it, by the time I finished, I was sitting at 780~ XP. I then looked at Brylee's spot again: I thought to myself that no one was going to touch him. No one. At least not at this level.
I was not prepared for what Wednesday would bring.
On the 14th of May 2024: BryLee's XP count had not increased.
Or perhaps it did, but it wasn't significant enough compared to how far ahead he'd rocketed in the opening days of the week. Everyone was moving now; they weren't moving much, but they were moving. I saw the first person aside from BryLee finally break the 1000 XP barrier and consolidate second place.
Arpa, you're not bad yourself.
https://preview.redd.it/48w2ga8k4d1d1.png?width=212&format=png&auto=webp&s=c043a0a33dc6d5907b66482368d074d9a3cb5a83
I blazed through my lessons like nothing else; every time my hearts went away I practiced to get them back and would try again. And before I knew it, I was one of three people in the Sapphire League with 1000+ points. I'd done it. I thought to myself: I can just rest easy now; first place was Brylee's; I wasn't going to be able to overtake him. That was never the plan, anyway. I came to Duolingo to learn Japanese so I could chat with my family and friends in Fukuoka and Sendai. Why would I--
I got back to it.
"Get within 600 points of Brylee," I told myself. "You won't be able to beat him; he probably has overtime today, but he'll be back at it soon. That gap will widen before it closes, if at all. But you can make second place yours, me. If you can't leave all of them eating your dust, at least leave enough that most of them cough on it!"
On my Wednesday session I exceeded my target: I made it within 450 XP of Brylee before calling it a night.
When I logged in on Thursday, Brylee had widened the gap on me again. He'd almost quadrupled the amount of XP between us. That must have been approximately 1300 XP in one go! He was at 4100~ XP. He was serious about it, this Brylee. This man on Duolingo couldn't have been taking this league seriously, could he? It was a laughable thought. Who would be taking a small thing like a Sapphire League promotion placement seriously?
You are, aren't you?
I decided to put my theory to the test.
I don't know how long I was there on Thursday, but I'd decided to set myself another target: I'd come close as I can to Brylee; bridging that gap was not going to be easy. It would be almost impossible for someone of my level at this stage of Duolingo, but I had to see for real. I did more lessons, did more practices, revised my understanding of the Japanese language.
Was I a threat?
Were you taking those steps up the summit of this mountain out of fear or out of your superior nature?
On Friday, Brylee's answer came.
He'd attempted to widen the gap again; however, compared to his burst prior, he'd sloppily only clocked in approximately 300-400 XP, bringing his total to 4600~ XP or ... maybe just under that. However, despite the widened chasm, I found myself ... disappointed.
Are you testing me now, Brylee?
Shall I waste all my gems on past lessons to give myself double XP on gold?
I smirked to myself. Of course I will.
Just as how you want to see me respond ... I want to see just how badly you want to keep that place of yours at the top!
So I buckled down and typed away. Katakana is hard. Hiragana is hard. Kanji is hard. My fingers tapped away, my brain peeled away, my mouth regurgitated sounds like a 4 year-old in a Japanese kindergarten. "Kai", "Sen", "Go", "Jo", "Sa", "To", "Ru"; it scorched my mind like nothing else. I wanted to give up; what was this even for? I had made my initial markers. I had met my goals. I knew that if I logged out I would be promoted, even without continuing my streak. Ruby League had already been achieved. Why continue? Why--
And as soon as I saw that gold medal next to my avatar, I knew why.
https://preview.redd.it/w1c9p9vkcd1d1.png?width=129&format=png&auto=webp&s=b258fd14b2c0a9a5a4135bb440b5cb7e997f208c
Because of the view.
"Is this what it felt like, Brylee?" I thought to myself again. "Is this how you felt looking down on us?"
It's not a bad view at all.
I could see why he wanted to keep it for himself.
On Saturday, I found out just how badly he wanted it to stay his.
When I had gone away from Duolingo, he'd switched our positions again. He'd turned my sub-200 XP advantage into a 600~ XP disadvantage. He was at approximately 5100~ XP and I was just about 4200. He wasn't willing to give it up; my weekend, however, was full, and I couldn't be on Duolingo all day. He'd caught me. The most I could put into my sessions was approximately 20 minutes on Saturday ... and I'd used up about 300 gems just trying to keep up. I was exhausted. I thought of maybe closing the gap one more time; just to give him that one last run for a title that would be his. I couldn't be learning Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji all day or all weekend. I had a life. I had functions to go to; friends to meet up with--
And then I saw it: his total went up by another 12 points.
STATUS CHANGED: AMERIKAJIN
And his status changed to the Star-Spangled Banner.
These weren't his usual hours.
I felt a chill going down my spine.
I know what Brylee was saying: can you keep up with me?
And then I smiled.
"You keep up with ME!"
I powered through every lesson I could. Whatever happened at the end of the week, by the end of today, at the very least ... and when I log in tomorrow, you will still be in my rearview mirror! I took my laptop with me to my distant cousin's wedding. I used the McDonald's WiFi to do my sessions. Our progress was incremental and sluggish, but we were both slugging it out at the top.
I retained my crown, at least for the day. We were both at 5600~ XP with less than a hundred or perhaps even tens of XP points between us. I had staved off his onslaught.
And then someday came along.
It was as if he was waiting for me.
"No," I smiled wryly. "You have been waiting for me all this time, haven't you, Brylee?"
I clicked on the new unit.
It was 7 hours until the Ruby League promotion.
We went blow for blow. He was just exhausted as I am. I could tell. I could barely keep up with all the new words my unit gave me and kept getting sent to practice, but I saw that the gap between us was either a small advantage for him (double digits) or a moderate one (100~ XP) for me. He was beginning to settle. But I couldn't keep this up. I was tired; I came close to giving up that spot over the next six hours. Neither of us could summon enough strength for that one last burst, that one last big sweep of XP. Either because we were both deprived of enough gems to do those legendary bursts or because we just kept screwing up on long stretches.
It was a slugfest. Two fighters on their last wisps of fire and determination swinging what little they could spare for victory.
WHY DON'T YOU JUST GIVE UP?!
It was as if every time he leapt in front of me, that voice would yell at me.
And it's right: why don't I just give up?
I'd lost a million times before.
I'd failed more frequently in my life than I'd succeeded.
But not now. Not here.
Because, Brylee, if this little corner of the universe isn't worth fighting for, you wouldn't be fighting for it now, would you?
I didn't know if I could win.
But I would stay in it for as long as I can. For at least longer than you would, Brylee.
So I tapped away. I don't know how long I lasted, but it was just short of the Ruby League Promotion deadline. The clock at the corner of my computer screen said that there was about 11 minutes left. I didn't know how much more I could stand to type in on the lessons. I don't know if I even wanted to see another character for "Shi" or "Ii" ever again. I took a sip of water, sat back down ... and checked the leaderboard.
TIME TO END: 6 MINUTES
I was ahead.
Brylee needed 500 points to get ahead of me. He had 6 minutes. I had put all of myself on the line for this win. This last 6 minutes were his to take. 500 points. That was all that was left between me and him. But it was just a small gap for Brylee. He'd overtaken it before. He'd opened up more than a thousand points in the opening hour of the Sapphire League. This would be nothing to him to overcome. I braced for the rush. For the flurry of blows that would knock me, the challenger, off my pedestal, and for the conqueror to take his place.
Six minutes became five.
Any minute now.
Five minutes became four.
But ...
Four minutes became three.
Nothing changed.
Three minutes became two.
He wasn't completing his lessons or practices anymore.
And two became one.
https://preview.redd.it/q6rx4yakkd1d1.png?width=625&format=png&auto=webp&s=b21efabca96822ae6ebe41c3f08396f42091de29
But numbers remained.
And I was the victor.
The Ruby League awaited.
This chapter of my Duolingo "career" will probably just be another sequence of paragraph and pages in the greater scheme of things; no, scratch that, it probably won't even be remembered at such. Just another promotion, just another league, just another week. In the rungs of the Sapphire League where the fledglings and the pathetic clash, there is no instance for the Gods and Titans to give notice to two mortals clashing in the sands of a rotten arena.
But I will remember.
I will remember you, Brylee.
And to you, I say:
誇れ、オマエは強い
ブライリー, オマエは強い
Wherever you are.

2024.05.19 12:03 John_Swift1 How I passed my SHRM-CP (without the Learning System)

As I was studying for the SHRM-CP exam, I came across several posts on here that were useful in helping me along the process, so I thought I would share some information on how I passed for future test takers. Please note that I did NOT purchase the SHRM Learning System. I studied by myself using free online resources and a few books I bought off Amazon. Prep/Study Time
I studied for about 4–5 weeks. On weekdays I studied between 1–3 hours per day, on the weekends I would do 4–6 hours per day, and during the last 7–10 days, I studied about 4–6 hours per day. Of course, I took a few nights off here and there as well. Keep in mind that you may need to study more or less given your work experience (I have a Master’s in I/O Psych and about 2 years of relevant work experience). To be honest, I wish I had started studying 2–3 weeks earlier. I would recommend giving yourself at least 1.5–2 months to prepare for this exam.
Resources:
  1. SHRM BoCK — This is a free PDF that you can download off the SHRM website. I used this resource to guide my overall learning. I dissected the entire document and made flashcards on Quizlet for everything I did not know. In particular, I focused on the “key concepts” for each section and made sure I knew the definition of each term. There is also a glossary of terms and definitions at the end of the document, so I added all those terms into Quizlet as well. The glossary does not have every definition you will need to know, but it’s a good start. For the terms I could not find a definition for, I would either
A) Google it
B) see how the SHRM website defines it,
C) use one of my other resources to find a definition
D) go to Youtube to learn more.
2) SHRM-CP Exam by certexamdb Test Prep: You can find in here
I explored a few different practice exams, but this was by far the most useful. You cannot use this as your only resource, but it is a great start.
3) PHSPHR Professional in Human Resources Certification Study Guide by Anne Bogardus: You can actually find a PDF of this online for free. At some point throughout the study process (usually after a practice exam), you will likely realize that you need to go into more depth with certain concepts. This is where this study guide comes in. I didn’t read it word for word, but I spent a few hours skimming through it, went through some of the practice questions at the end of each chapter, and read in detail certain sections that I was weak on. This resource is very detailed but not too complicated which is great. I would highly recommend allocating 1–2 study days just for going through this resource. Keep in mind that it will provide you with more detail than you need, but you can just focus on the concepts that are relevant to the SHRM-CP.
4) SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP Certification Practice Exams (All in One) by Kelly and Simon-Walters. About 10 days before my exam, I came across this resource which consisted of 500 questions that were broken down into each of the sections outlined in the SHRM BoCK. When I took the practice exam in the certexamdb Test Prep I scored terribly on the situational judgment questions. This book is GREAT for preparing you for those questions. Just keep in mind two things when using this resource:
It will consist of some questions with terms or concepts that you did not come across in any of the other resources — you can just ignore those (it’s extra information that you do not necessarily need), (2) the quick answer key has some inaccuracies (ignore it) but the answer key with detailed explanations is correct so make sure you use that when scoring yourself. Make sure you answer both the SHRM-CP and the SHRM-SCP questions (they are both relevant). This really helps with the situational judgment questions, but also with knowing how some of the terms and definitions apply in a real setting. When focusing on these questions, I realized that I had memorized some definitions, but I still didn’t know how to apply those concepts. This book helps with that.
5) Quizlet Flashcards created by other people — A lot of people have created quizlet sets (even from the Learning System) that they have uploaded. Those are free, so make sure you use them! Also, some people have even created practice sets for exam questions (which I think are from the learning system as well), so make sure you review those as well! Basic Study Tips: Unfortunately, without the Learning System, there is no single resource that you can use to prepare for this exam. Therefore, make sure you use a few resources just to make sure you get exposed to most of the material that will be on the exam. As you go through each resource, keep revising your flashcards and adding new ones. Make sure you periodically review flashcards as you go rather than waiting to cram everything in a week before the exam. When you go through practice questions, you will soon realize that you often need to know more than just the definition… you need to know when and how something applies as well. For example, you need to know what FMLA is, but you also need to know what the eligibility criteria is, when it is applicable, etc… I had one massive set of flashcards (about 500), and then I also had smaller sets of flashcards for some sections (e.g., a set for HR Laws, another set for Finance/Accounting terms). I would memorize using the smaller sets, but then I went through the giant set I had created a few days before my exam to make sure I knew everything. Do a ton of practice questions and understand why you got certain questions wrong.
6) SHRM LMS Books
Here’s a quick overview of the step-by-step process I took to study and prepare:
  1. Go through SHRM-BoCK and create flashcards
  2. Go through and memorize SHRM Learning System Flashcards (You can find these on Quizlet and search “SHRM Learning System”)
  3. Take certexamdb Test Prep Practice Exam, review, and identify weak areas.
  4. Go through the Bogardus PHSPHR book and focus on weak areas (fill in flashcards)
  5. Memorize the newly created flashcards for weak areas, flag ones that you continually get wrong or confused with.
  6. YouTube hazy concepts and terms to gain a richer understanding, use Khan Academy when applicable.
  7. Retake certexamdb Practice Exam
  8. Go through questions in the book by Kelly and Simon-Walters
  9. Identify weak areas, read through explanations, create and memorize flash cards as needed
  10. A few days before my exam, focus on my large stack of flashcards, go through other people’s flashcard sets, and go through practice exams on Quizlet.
Exam Experience and Takeaways
I finished the exam in a little over three hours. You get no breaks, but you can always take them as needed. Time is likely not going to be an issue. Here are some takeaways that I had about the exam: — There were surprisingly few questions on US Employment Laws & Regulations and Labor Unions. I spent a lot on these sections when studying, but there were not many questions at all on these topics. — The test questions were different than any of the practice exams I had taken (however you should be fine as long as you know the material) — The situational judgment questions can be exhausting with having to read 2–3 paragraphs for each 2–3 questions. — Make sure you carefully read the question. For example, you are often asked “what is the first step you would take” or “what strategy would you use.” These can be tricky, but they can also easily reveal the right answer. — No matter how hard you study, you will encounter a few questions where you come across terms that you’re unfamiliar with and you will have to guess blindly. Just try to eliminate what you do know is wrong and take your best guess. Don’t stress too much about it. — Use the highlight, strike through, and flagging options during the exam. It helps a lot. — Often, the correct answers for the situational judgment questions have something to do with (1) getting leadership buy-in, (2) having HR be a strategic partner, (3) making sure the action is aligned with the org’s mission and vision (4) HR being proactive, (5) doing a needs assessment of some sort, (6) having HR be some sort of facilitator.

2024.05.19 02:04 not_a_robot_teehee Which Sisyphean tasks are worth it?

I'm finishing up my first year. I didn't try to be the friendly doormat type of teacher--it just sort of happened. And I really try to look at my students in the best possible light, I try to be stoic about things, and I tried really, really hard to make my classes almost impossible to fail (alas). I greet every student with good morning and good afternoon. I say the same things every day every five minutes. I nag and remind and wax poetic about how one must crawl before they walk and walk before they run. I remind people to keep their feet on the floor. I talk to students about their gambling (phone) addictions, using the DSM-5 criteria. I blocked Google on GoGuardian. I talk about how the human brain is a quintillion times faster than punching out-of-context questions into Google or ChatGPT or whatever. I ask people to put their phones away and somehow they text their friends the pencil and paper assignments anyway and I get duplicate answers from the quietly failing friends who have my classes at different times throughout the day. I get Snapchat AI a lot on anything that involves chromebooks, or anything that uses logical cognitive processes. I ran out of copy machine money. I made four versions of the upcoming final exam and printed them at the public library (I ran out of copy machine money).
So--what's worth fighting for? Cell phones? In-class discussion? Drafts and revision? Cold calling? Reading aloud?
For cellphones: My department is mostly brand new, with a couple of burnt out veterans. One idea everyone is floating is collecting cell phones at the beginning of every class. I'm not sure about it, but right now reified as a sliced-bread solution.
For in-class discussion: One idea that might actually be worth it for me is to make porpsicle storcks (tongue depressors) and enforce participation. I figured, because I was new, that people simply enjoyed silence (and darkness) in the classroom. I've discovered, though, that I had to do a zillion little things every day because I excised discussion from my slate of options.
Because High School is not college, I'm okay with making participation part of the grade next year. I little birdie told me that only work ought to be graded, but there's no other place on Earth where people can finish their work and then just sit there for 40 minutes waiting for a bell to ring. Colleges don't do it. Workplaces don't do it. So I figure the environment dictates the activity, and participation needs to be graded, otherwise people are going to pretend that using their phone under their desk with their heads on the desk makes them invisible.
For drafts and revision: Early in the year I asked students to write a paragraph and I remember clearly a student saying "I ain't writing a goddamn fucking paragraph." And they didn't. So I made my classroom anti-reading and pro-stupid-videos-all-the-time. And students complained about watching 5-10 minute chunks of not-so-High-Quality-Instructional-Materials. I walked the class through EdPuzzles and asked open-ended questions, and I got the selected responses and blanks. I handed papers back and got blanks again. My content area is one where writing across the curriculum is more than a stupid idea--it could actually work in a school where people write goddamn fucking paragraphs.
For cold calling: I was informed that students of low SES/academic achievement would experience pants-shittingly-bad anxiety if I asked them a question. So I would ask the whole group a question and count to 270 slowly in my head. Then I would move on to the next thing. So next year, I'm going to have a lot of people with shit all up in their pants.
For reading aloud: I was informed that the majority of the students at the High School are aliterate and illiterate, and that asking them to read aloud is like duct taping their hands and feet together and throwing them in a kidnap van. So I read everything. But I think my informants were wrong about a lot of things.
Also: My school doesn't have a phone policy. It's up to me to put on an iron coat and run my own gauntlets. I think they want to wait 5-10 years for national momentum to build. Maybe it won't. Maybe it will.
So, all that to say: Which battles do you fight? Do you win? If not, is it worth it for you to be Sisyphus, and where in the 180 or so days does it pay off for you.
Thanks for noticing me.

2024.05.19 00:10 TheIndulgery Using ChatGPT as a novel writing aid

Using ChatGPT as a novel writing aid
I'm currently writing a fantasy / litPRG novel and have been using ChatGPT in creative ways to help with it. I had some requests on how so instead of replying to everyone individually I figured I'd make a post! I will include screenshots so expect this post to be long! Also, it's from my actual book so please don't steal my shit. lol
I'll break it up into 5 sections:
  1. Standard editing help
  2. Character and creature sheets
  3. The cool stuff
  4. A ChatGPT summary of the types of prompts I've used so far
  5. A recommendation by ChatGPT on how authors can get the most use out of it
A few notes to start:
  • I'm currently using the paid version of 4o. I paid for 4 because I use it a TON for work and the ability to upload screenshots is a huge help. Turns out it's great for doing screenshots of formatting, character sheets, etc for writing too. I originally started with 3.5 and just kept migrating the story to newer versions as they came out. Other than query limits I haven't noticed any difference in quality.
  • I do NOT have it write any parts of the story for me. As an experiment I had it try to write a fight scene and kept adjusting the prompts but it just always came out shit. It's really not good at writing wholesale.
  • After every chapter I copy and paste it into the same conversation so that it keeps a running log of the story.
  • It's terrible at emotional interactions and dialogue. It tries to make everything hopeful and goes with the most generic, Hallmark Card type of interaction
  • It's also bad at giving suggestions or ideas for long scenes. It wants to resolve everything in a few paragraphs so it'll go from 2 people fighting to reaching a deeper understanding and being fully great with each other in like 2 paragraphs
Keep in mind that although it's great as a reviewer, editor, and something to bounce ideas off of, it can only provide suggestions. The hard work of writing has to be done by you. I spend about 2 hours a night and at least 4 hours a day on weekends writing and maybe 10 minutes a day in ChatGPT. Much like spell or grammar checkers, it's a useful tool but no substitute for doing the work
Editing and grammar:
This is pretty straightforward. I'll copy and paste sections and ask it to fix the grammar, bolding any changes it makes and striking out any words it removes so I can review the changes. The only issue I've had with this is that if I try to post an entire chapter it'll sometimes pause in its review and ask if I want to continue. Sometimes when it does that it loses sentences or even a paragraph where it broke. Now I just do smaller chunks. It'll explain why it made the changes too, so it's improving my grammar as I go.
Character and creature help:
This is also pretty straightforward. I already have my main characters written up and I know which ones are coming later, but sometimes I want mooks or neighbors, and other times I need creatures. I'll ask it for more than I need and pick the best ones. Some of the prompts:
"Create 5 creatures that you'd find in Wisconsin. There should be a day version and a night version, the night version being tougher and having more attacks. For each come up with 3 offensive and 3 defensive powers. Also describe them in the format of a character description in a D&D style monster manual."

"Based off the fight scene I just described and the attached screenshot of the person's character sheet, come up with 5 attacks, skills, or magical abilities that person could develop. They should reflect that person's personality, character sheet, and fighting style."
https://preview.redd.it/05t0977p691d1.png?width=572&format=png&auto=webp&s=35a55418b0ce7230225ac79e632632f4aac43f6a

Mooks:

The cool stuff: This is where it really shines and has helped me avoid a lot of pitfalls that I notice when I'm reading other authors' books:
"Review the story and look for any words that I reuse a lot. Ignore standard ones like 'and, they, him, etc'"
All authors have their favorite words that get repeated way too often. I'll find them and suggest alternate descriptions. It goes beyond just providing new words.
"I want to avoid repetitive descriptions. Please review the story and identify any times I've repeated descriptions, turns of phrase, etc. Categorize them into "fight scenes", "Emotional scenes", and "area/scene descriptions"
This has been a power prompt for me. We tend to describe things a certain way and it identifies areas where changes can be made to make it more dynamic and varied.
https://preview.redd.it/n0s3w4l2891d1.png?width=787&format=png&auto=webp&s=6f8bbb75a01216bbef6b4792740154a1ea4f40ef
https://preview.redd.it/zy9jj32a891d1.png?width=755&format=png&auto=webp&s=b6a3ee793ee610a96416268ae407aab70c6d3785
"Please review the story for any inconsistencies. I'm specifically looking for ways I've described the system or world as working that I later contradict."
I've had mixed results with this one but overall it works really well.
It's also useful for all those items that you forget, especially if they enhance someone and they're supposed to be using a skill or ability from it:
https://preview.redd.it/wz4gn43v891d1.png?width=662&format=png&auto=webp&s=b278e32bd76464dfa09395115d8bb401a759d789
I also use it to bounce ideas off of. Sometimes the ideas are generic but often it comes up with ideas that I hadn't thought of. I don't like it decide the plot or directions, but it's like chatting with an editor or reviewer and the two of you bouncing ideas off each other. I'll reply to its posts with things like "I like number 3 but it's coming too early. What if we had them go to place X instead of that, saving that for later?" Character [xx] is going to have these skills and plot points in the future. Knowing that, please tailor all skill and plot suggestions with the idea of driving towards that narrative in a balanced, natural manner. None of the ideas should feel forced and they should all happen naturally as the story progresses. As I paste new chapters please incorporate the changes into that long term progression and adapt as required.
"I think I want character B to starting feeling like they're not contributing but I'm having trouble thinking of ways to express that naturally. I don't want it to feel forced. What are some situations they could end up in that'd highlight that? Who could they fight with?"
"I feel like character A is getting too complacent and it outpacing the other people, but they've become the lynchpin of the fights. I plan on introducing XX situation and it'll make them weak in XX area. I'm going to post a few paragraphs with that, tell me if it rings true with the character growth I've been using for the rest of the story."
"I'm going to paste the first half of a fight that the characters are in but I'm realizing I don't have any ideas for how they'll win. What are some ideas based off the creature's character sheet you posted earlier?"
And I asked ChatGPT to make a summarized list of the types of requests I've asked of it. Here's what it came up with:

2024.05.18 01:26 EzekieruYT "Rain of Rust" and "Winter Sleet" got errata just now!

Logan Bonner posted on the forums, addressing these two Kineticist feats:
"Hey, folks! We missed adding a couple of items to the FAQ page initially that should be in there now. Didn't realize it until seeing some of the responses like "Rain of Rust still doesn't have a duration?" Adding errata is a complex process involving changing and tracking text across multiple internal tools and I missed a step on these two items! We've now updated the Rage of Elements FAQ section with entries for Winter Sleet (page 32) and Rain of Rust (page 36)."
Rain of Rust's errata:
"Page 36: Rail of Rust is missing its duration. Add "The cloud lasts 1 minute but ends if you use the impulse again.”"
And Winter Sleet's errata:
"Page 32: Winter Sleet was too strong for multiple reasons. It's been revised to act more like the grease spell, no longer makes creatures off-guard automatically, and now uses your impulse DC. Your DC has a penalty to avoid a long-lasting ability with a low action cost from being too powerful, as often seen in the DCs of monster auras. The first paragraph now reads as follows; the second paragraph is unchanged.
"Bone-chilling, swirling sleet surrounds you, cruel as deepest winter. Surfaces in your kinetic aura are coated in slippery ice. A creature that moves on the ice immediately falls unless it succeeds at an Acrobatics check or Reflex save against your impulse DC – 2. A creature that Steps or Crawls doesn’t have to attempt a check or save. You’re immune to this effect.""

2024.05.18 00:04 TheRCNW Early Termination Required Payments

Hey guys, my family and I are breaking our NC lease as I got a new job in another city. We are looking to move out in June. Our landlord is requiring us to make multiple payments that are not directly listed in the lease agreement from what I understand. I also don't know if there are governing policies by the NC state government that ultimately require these payments are well. Can you guys help us understand what we actually are responsible to pay? I found that they used the Realtor Standard Form 414-T revised in 2019.
Requirements from Landlord:
Copied from lease agreement:
  1. Termination and Renewal:
(a) Termination at End of Initial Term. EITHER LANDLORD OR TENANT MAY TERMINATE THE TENANCY AT THE EXPIRATION OF THE INITIAL TERM BY GIVING WRITTEN NOTICE TO THE OTHER AT LEAST DAYS PRIOR TO THE EXPIRATION DATE OF THE INITIAL TERM.
(b) Renewal. IN THE EVENT SUCH WRITTEN NOTICE IS NOT GIVEN OR IF THE TENANT HOLDS OVER BEYOND THE INITIAL TERM, THE TENANCY SHALL AUTOMATICALLY BECOME A (PERIOD) TO (PERIOD) TENANCY UPON THE SAME TERMS AND CONDITIONS CONTAINED HEREIN.
(c) Termination at End of Renewal Term. IF THE TENANCY IS RENEWED ON A CALENDAR MONTH-TO-MONTH BASIS, IT MAY THEREAFTER BE TERMINATED BY EITHER LANDLORD OR TENANT GIVING THE OTHER WRITTEN NOTICE, WITH THE TERMINATION TO BE EFFECTIVE ON THE LAST DAY OF THE CALENDAR MONTH FOLLOWING THE CALENDAR MONTH DURING WHICH THE NOTICE IS GIVEN. IF THE TENANCY IS RENEWED ON ANYTHING OTHER THAN A CALENDAR MONTH-TO-MONTH BASIS, THE TENANCY MAY BE TERMINATED BY EITHER LANDLORD OR TENANT GIVING THE OTHER DAYS WRITTEN NOTICE PRIOR TO THE LAST DAY OF THE FINAL PERIOD OF THE TENANCY, WITH THE TERMINATION TO BE EFFECTIVE ON THE LAST DAY OF THE FINAL PERIOD OF THE TENANCY.
...
  1. Tenant's Duties Upon Termination: Upon any termination of the Tenancy created hereby, whether by the Landlord or the Tenant and whether for breach or otherwise, the Tenant shall: (1) pay all utility bills due for services to the Premises for which he is responsible and have all such utility services discontinued; (2) vacate the Premises removing there from all Tenant's personal property of whatever nature; (3) properly sweep and clean the Premises, including plumbing fixtures, refrigerators, stoves and sinks, removing there from all rubbish, trash, garbage and refuse; (4) make such repairs and perform such other acts as are necessary to return the Premises, and any appliances or fixtures furnished in connection therewith, in the same condition as when Tenant took possession of the Premises; provided, however, Tenant shall not be responsible for ordinary wear and tear or for repairs required by law or by paragraph 6 above to be performed by Landlord; (5) fasten and lock all doors and windows; (6) return to the Landlord any and all keys, other access devices, parking and pool passes, garage door openers and other similar items to the Premises and any amenities; (7) restore the level of fuel in any fuel tank used by the Tenant to its level as of the Beginning Date of the Tenancy; and (8) notify the Landlord of the address to which the balance of the Security Deposit may be returned. If the Tenant fails to sweep out and clean the Premises, appliances and fixtures as herein provided, Tenant shall become liable, without notice or demand, to the Landlord for the actual costs of cleaning (over and above ordinary wear and tear), which may be deducted from the Security Deposit as provided in paragraph 4 above.
In the event Tenant desires to terminate the Tenancy prior to the end of its term then in effect, Tenant acknowledges and understands that the Landlord will use reasonable efforts to re-rent the Premises, but that the Tenant shall remain responsible for the performance of all the Tenant's obligations under this Agreement until such time as the Landlord may be able to re-rent the Premises, unless the Landlord and the Tenant agree otherwise in writing.

2024.05.17 17:55 MentORPHEUS One small edit in item description, one giant plunge in views!

I listed an item as a 30 day buy it now, at a very competitive price. By day 2 it showed 26 views, by far the most interest of all 150-ish things I have listed currently.
I realized I needed to make a small correction to the text, so I did a revise listing. Corrected the typo, and changed 3 words stating it was a store return to "never been installed in [the place one would run this item.] These were the only changes to 5 or so paragraphs and numerous photos. It's listed as open box.
On day 3 and 4, the views stayed fixed at 26. This morning looking over my active listings, that item now shows ZERO views!
Any ideas why this happened, and recommendations on best listing practices (besides get it perfect the first time) to avoid this happening?

2024.05.17 14:24 Tootsie_r0lla Munchausen by Internet: Current Research and Future Directions (mod approved)

Munchausen by Internet: Current Research and Future Directions
This is a really good study/ paper that i thought you guys may enjoy or find interesting. I recommend at least have a scroll through (it's not too long) but it's fairly digestible. Or copy the paragraphs and chuck em in chat gpt. If you don't have that then try Goblin Tools and select 'easier to read' or 'waffle less'. It really gets in to how Munchausens has/ is developing and how MBI may have to be included in the DSM. It includes what to look for, how to de-escalate, what to avoid etc
Factitious Disorder and Munchausens Factitious Disorder and Munchausen Syndrome Factitious disorder (FD) is an umbrella category covering a group of mental disturbances in which patients intentionally feign physical or mental illness without obvious benefit.
Here's a chat gpt summary of the paper:
Objective Munchausen by Internet occurs when medically well individuals fake recognized illnesses in virtual environments, such as online support groups. This paper focuses on the aspect of Munchausen by Internet in which individuals actively seek to disrupt groups for their own satisfaction, which has not yet been associated with the wider phenomena of Internet trolls (users who post with the intention of annoying someone or disrupting an online environment)
Results The limited research relating to motivation, opportunity, detection, effects, and consequences of Munchausen by Internet is highlighted and it is formally linked to aspects of trolling. Case studies are used to illustrate the phenomenon. What is particularly worrying is the ease with which the deception can be carried out online, the difficulty in detection, and the damaging impact and potential danger to isolated victims.
Conclusions We suggest ways to deal with Munchausen by Internet and provide advice for health group facilitators. We also propose that Munchausen by Internet and Munchausen by Internet trolling should be formally acknowledged in a revised version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual DSM-5. This will assist in effectively identifying and minimizing the growth of this behavior as more people seek reassurance and support about their health in the online environment. We also suggest directions for future research.

Navigating the UK assessment system can be daunting for new students. It’s essential to understand the structure and expectations that come with various forms of assessment Help, from coursework to exams. UK educational institutions typically use a mix of formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments, such as essays and presentations, are designed to monitor your learning and provide ongoing feedback. Summative assessments, including final exams and major projects, evaluate your overall understanding at the end of a course. Each type requires different preparation strategies, and understanding the grading criteria is crucial to achieving high marks. Remember, assessments in the UK often emphasize critical thinking and original analysis over rote memorization.

Effective Study Techniques for UK Students

Effective study techniques tailored to the UK educational framework can significantly enhance your learning process. Active learning methods, such as summarizing information in your own words, discussing topics with peers, and teaching the material to someone else, are highly beneficial. Utilize mind maps and flashcards to organize and retain information. Additionally, regular review sessions are more effective than cramming, as they reinforce long-term retention. Engage with the material by asking questions, seeking clarifications, and applying theoretical concepts to practical scenarios. This approach aligns with the UK’s emphasis on deep learning and critical analysis.

Time Management Strategies

Balancing coursework, revision, and personal time is a common challenge. Effective time management strategies are essential to stay on top of your responsibilities without feeling overwhelmed. Start by creating a detailed schedule that includes all your classes, study sessions, and extracurricular activities. Prioritize tasks based on their deadlines and importance. Break larger tasks into manageable chunks and set specific goals for each study session. Using tools like planners, apps, or calendars can help you stay organized. Also, ensure to allocate time for relaxation and social activities to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Consistent, well-planned study routines can prevent last-minute stress and improve academic performance.

Mastering Essay Writing

Essay writing is a cornerstone of UK academic assessments, requiring clear structure, critical analysis, and coherent argumentation. Begin by thoroughly understanding the essay prompt and conducting comprehensive research from credible sources. Create an outline to organize your thoughts and structure your essay logically. Each paragraph should focus on a single idea, starting with a topic sentence followed by evidence and analysis. Use formal, concise language and avoid colloquialisms. Properly cite all sources to avoid plagiarism and adhere to the specified referencing style. Proofread your essay multiple times to catch grammatical errors and refine your arguments. Strong essays are not only well-written but also demonstrate a deep understanding of the subject matter.

Navigating Group Projects

Group projects are common in UK education, fostering teamwork and collaborative problem-solving skills. Successful collaboration begins with clear communication and defined roles for each team member. Establish regular meetings to discuss progress, share feedback, and address any issues. Use collaborative tools like shared documents and project management apps to keep everyone on the same page. Conflict resolution is key; address disagreements professionally and seek compromises that benefit the group’s objective. Additionally, ensure that all contributions are fairly recognized and that the workload is evenly distributed. Effective teamwork not only improves project outcomes but also enhances your ability to work collaboratively in professional settings.

Preparing for Exams

Preparing for exams requires a strategic approach to ensure you cover all necessary material and manage your stress. Start by creating a revision schedule that breaks down the syllabus into manageable sections, allowing ample time for each topic. Incorporate a variety of revision techniques, such as practice tests, flashcards, and summarizing notes. Focus on understanding concepts rather than memorizing facts. Practice past exam papers to familiarize yourself with the format and types of questions. Additionally, develop stress management techniques like deep breathing exercises, regular physical activity, and ensuring adequate rest. Consistent, organized preparation can significantly boost your confidence and performance on exam day.

Utilizing University Resources

UK universities offer a wealth of resources to support your academic journey. Libraries are not just for books; they offer study spaces, access to journals, and often host workshops on research skills. Tutoring centers provide additional help in subjects you might find challenging, offering personalized assistance to enhance your understanding. Online databases give you access to a wide range of academic articles and papers, crucial for research projects and essays. Additionally, universities often have writing centers where you can get feedback on your assignments before submission. Make the most of these resources to enhance your learning and academic performance.

Overcoming Academic Challenges

Academic challenges such as writer’s block, procrastination, and test anxiety are common but manageable. For writer’s block, try freewriting or breaking the task into smaller, more manageable sections to get started. To combat procrastination, use techniques like the Pomodoro Technique, which involves working in short, focused bursts with regular breaks. If test anxiety is affecting you, practice relaxation techniques such as mindfulness or deep breathing exercises to calm your mind. It’s also beneficial to establish a regular study routine and stick to it. Seeking support from counselors or academic advisors can provide additional strategies and emotional support to overcome these challenges.

Feedback and Improvement

Feedback from assessments is a valuable tool for academic growth. Rather than viewing criticism negatively, see it as an opportunity to improve. Carefully review the feedback provided on your assignments and identify areas where you can enhance your skills. If feedback is unclear, don’t hesitate to ask your tutors for clarification. Create an action plan to address the highlighted weaknesses and set specific goals for your next assignment. Reflecting on feedback and actively seeking to improve helps you develop a growth mindset, which is essential for continuous academic improvement.

Maintaining Academic Integrity

Maintaining academic integrity is fundamental in Assessment Help In UK education. This means producing original work, properly citing sources, and avoiding any form of plagiarism. Understand the importance of proper citation practices; whether using APA, MLA, or another style, consistently apply the rules throughout your work. Use plagiarism detection tools to ensure your work is original before submission. Additionally, adhere to ethical standards in research and collaborations, giving credit where it is due. Upholding academic integrity not only reflects well on your character but also ensures that your academic achievements are genuinely earned.
By following these guidelines and utilizing the provided strategies, you can effectively navigate the complexities of the UK assessment system, improve your academic performance, and maintain a balanced and fulfilling student life. Whether you are struggling with essay writing, group projects, or exam preparation, this handbook aims to offer comprehensive assessment help to UK students, ensuring you have the tools and knowledge to succeed.

2024.05.17 06:48 ImpressionReal6727 SAT Tips for Upcoming Writers + My Experience

Since the June DSAT is coming up I thought I'd make a post on tips and resources I used to help me study for the May 4th sat. This post goes into decent depth so read it all carefully and remember what worked for me might not work for you.
If you're like me and procrastinated studying until now then this post is definitely for you. All my prep for the May 4th test was done in like 14 days and I expect a score of 1540 or above.
My scores for the college board practice tests:
Practice Test 1: 1220
Practice Test 2: 1190
Practice Test 3: 1530
Practice Test 4: 1360
Practice Test 5: 1460
Practice Test 6: 1530
PRACTICE TESTS EXPERIENCE: Practice Test 1 and 2 were done without desmos since I didn't even know I could use it, so I basically wasted those two. I did test 2 after doing khan academy, test 3 was done using desmos and I did it after I grinded through like 80% of khan academy. Practice Test 4 truly humbled me and I realized how unprepared I really was which was when I started watching more youtube videos. I took the practice test 5 only 2 days after test 4 and my score increased like crazy which made me confident again.
NOTE: PRACTICE TEST 4, 5, AND 6 ARE THE CLOSEST IN DIFFICULTY TO THE REAL DEAL, TEST 1, 2 AND 3 ARE VERY EASY COMPARED TO THE REAL THING.
BASICS FOR BEGINNERS: If you have not studied yet at all you should start with basic concepts on Khan academy, grind through the lessons and videos, do the practice questions in the foundation section and medium section. Also learn how to use desmos, I used desmos for things I didn't even know was possible. Learning how to use desmos got rid of easy constant questions, inequalities, system of equations. Make sure to watch the 3 part desmos videos I talked about below in the youtubers section, it truly helped me a lot.
YOUTUBE: Youtube was one of the key reasons my score increased, I watched videos on the dsat constantly, while I ate food, even on my breaks I just watched videos running through the practice test I had already taken over and over again. I went over each practice test and the mistakes I made probably like 3 - 4 times throughout the 15 days.
QUESTION BANK: After I finished every practice test provided by the college board, ONLY THEN did I go to the college board question bank. This is because a good amount of the questions off of the practice tests are in this bank so without knowing it your brain could memorize how to do it and recognize it when doing the practice test which would inflate your marks. I probably went through hundreds of questions from the question bank (English and math) within the last 3 days before the may 4th test.
EXTRA TIPS: Sleep and exercise are also very important and something that I think isn't talked about enough, this applies more to people who are in my boat and are studying last minute and want a really high score. I slept crazy every night and it really helped me retain more information. Exercise is an amazing break even a walk works, anytime I hit a wall during my study periods I'd just go to the gym for 45 minutes to and hour and I would always come back refreshed ready to study again.
Youtubers I used:
Not promoting these guys in any way but they're just the only youtubers I used and I think other people here would probably find them useful.
Here are all the youtubers I used, Scalar Learning, Settele Tutoring, Tutorllini Test Prep, Strategic Test Prep, Method Learning.
Scalar Learning: He has some decent videos teaching basic concepts and his shorts have some good practice questions that he goes through.
Settele Tutoring: Settele was the one I watched the most, he went through every single question (in separate videos) on every single practice test given by the college board, I also watched some of his free concept learning videos on english, I think he explains a lot of the stuff pretty well. He’s amazing at english and helping you learn english, he made something called a “dumb summary” which I actually used a lot on my may 4th sat, it’s essentially a method where you can summarize a massive paragraph in like 30-40 seconds easily.
Tutorllini Test Prep: Has some good concept videos and also goes through all the math questions on all the practice tests really well, sometimes giving like 2-3 different methods you can use to solve a single question. He also goes through some of his own worksheets that he’s made and some of them are pretty good practice.
Strategic Test Prep: She gives some good test day tips and tips and shortcuts in general for the SAT, her explanations on the practice tests are also pretty decent.
Method Learning: Method Learning is what I’d say really boosted my score in the very beginning stages of my studying. This is only because of his 3 part desmos videos, I didn’t watch any of his other videos but that 3 part seriously was a game changer. The desmos tips he gives are amazing. An example is if a question gives you a linear or quadratic equation and then a constant in it, you can plug that exact equation into desmos and move the slider around to find what the constant is, this takes no more than 30 seconds.
Formulas I memorized for the DSAT:
You will have to memorize some formulas for the DSAT and some will make your life easier.
Sum of interior angles in a polygon: 180(n-2)
Area of a sector: πr^2 ⋅ θ/360
Arc Length: 2πr ⋅ θ/360
Mass/Volume/Density: m = v(d)
X cord. of vertex: -b/2a
Sum of solutions: -b/a
Product of solutions: c/a
If anyone needs any tips or anything just let me know I'll try my best to respond.
Whatever score you want is possible if you're willing to put in the work and time.

2024.05.17 00:58 beninboise Changes made to the application of payment on my credit card

So Citi made the following modification to my card agreement on the most recent (May) statement, which is also the month in which my promotional 0%, one-year interest rate for my balance transfer expires.
Their agents are saying I will have to wait to make the payment either the day after my promotional period ends (5/22), or after the billing period closes in June, depending on who I talk to. Either way, it will have to be applied to that balance AFTER the promotion expires.
They are also saying I can’t direct ANY amount (even beyond the ~$51 minimum payment) towards the promotional balance.
This is the text of the modification:

Section 5 - Payments
The following paragraphs have been revised:
Application of Payments: We decide how to apply your payments, up to the Minimum Payment Due, to the balances on your account.
Payment Due is generally applied first to fees, interest and principal in balance with the lowest APR, then to fees, interest and principal in the balance with the next lowest APR, and so on, until the full Minimum Payment Due has been applied. If you pay more than the Minimum Payment Due, we'll apply the amount over the Minimum Payment Due first to the balance with the highest APR, then to the balance with the next highest APR, and so on except as otherwise required by applicable law.
This amends your Card Agreement. Please keep this information for future reference.

Obviously this feels predatory at best. They did offer the following suggestions.
Manager: We can send an email to “our team” seeing if we can get an exception. You’ll have an answer in 7-10 business days in your email account on file. (Although this is after the promotional rate expires and begins accruing interest, I chose to pursue this as the best route.)
The initial agent said that, in the future, I should use another card for purchases and this one just for balance transfers — as if I wouldn’t have done that if I knew this modification would come into effect…?
Anyway, my question is just, what if any leverage do I have as the consumer, and what is my best plan of attack going forward? I mean I ASSUME any interest charged will be pretty negligible in the big picture… but then, my assumption of what’s reasonable has already been dashed, as I thought I’d be able to avoid ANY interest charge for the balance transfer without escalation by calling and simply requesting my payment be applied to my remaining promotional balance…

2024.05.16 07:06 Nish_23 Mastering the Art of Answer Writing for the IAS Mains Exam

Preparing for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Mains exam is a journey filled with dedication, discipline, and strategic planning. One of the most crucial components of this journey is mastering the art of answer writing. Your ability to articulate your knowledge and insights effectively can make the difference between an average score and a top rank. Here, we will delve into some key strategies to enhance your answer writing skills, ensuring you stand out in this highly competitive exam.

Understanding the Demand of the Question

The first step in effective answer writing is understanding the exact demand of the question. This involves:
  1. Analyzing Keywords: Pay close attention to directive words like 'discuss,' 'critically analyze,' 'elaborate,' and 'compare.' These words indicate the approach you should take in your answer.
  2. Identifying Parts of the Question: Break down the question into its constituent parts to ensure you address every aspect.

Structuring Your Answer

A well-structured answer is easier for the examiner to read and understand. Follow these tips for a coherent structure:
  1. Introduction: Start with a brief introduction that sets the context. This could be a definition, a relevant fact, or a brief background.
  2. Body: Divide the body into clear, logical sections. Use subheadings if necessary to organize your thoughts. Ensure each paragraph deals with a single point or argument.
  3. Conclusion: Conclude with a summary of your main points or a forward-looking statement. Keep it concise and impactful.

Incorporating Relevant Content

The content of your answer should reflect depth and breadth of knowledge:
  1. Current Affairs: Integrate recent events and developments to show your awareness of the contemporary context.
  2. Examples and Case Studies: Use relevant examples and case studies to substantiate your arguments.
  3. Diagrams and Flowcharts: Visual aids like diagrams and flowcharts can make your answer more engaging and easier to understand.

Writing Style and Presentation

Your writing style and presentation can significantly impact the readability of your answers:
  1. Clarity and Precision: Write clearly and concisely. Avoid unnecessary jargon and verbosity.
  2. Handwriting: If you’re writing by hand, ensure your handwriting is legible. Good handwriting can make a positive impression on the examiner.
  3. Use of Bullet Points: For lists and series of points, bullet points can enhance readability and make your answer look organized.

Time Management

Time management is crucial during the exam:
  1. Practice Regularly: Regular practice with timed mock tests can help you gauge the appropriate length and depth of your answers.
  2. Prioritize Questions: Start with the questions you are most comfortable with. This builds confidence and ensures you secure marks in areas of strength.
  3. Stick to Word Limits: Adhering to the prescribed word limit is important. Overwriting can lead to incomplete answers towards the end of the paper.

Revision and Feedback

Continuous improvement is key:
  1. Self-Review: After writing a practice answer, review it critically. Look for gaps in content, structure, and presentation.
  2. Peer Review: Exchange answers with fellow aspirants to gain new perspectives and constructive feedback.
  3. Mentorship: Seek guidance from experienced mentors who can provide professional insights and identify areas for improvement.

2024.05.16 05:38 onnake Transgender Ohio Statehouse candidates line up behind bill allowing people to run under legal name

Transgender Ohio Statehouse candidates line up behind bill allowing people to run under legal name
"This year a handful of transgender candidates filed to run for state office in Ohio, but they faced challenges to their candidacies over the names they used on their paperwork. Under Ohio law, candidates must list any prior name they’ve used in the last five years on their petitions.
"Notably, the form itself makes no indication of this requirement. Instead, it presents an, 'I, the undersigned…' style paragraph with a single blank space for the candidate’s name. In italics at the top of the form, it lists several sections from Ohio Revised Code chapter 3513 including every section from 3513.05 to 3513.10, except 3513.06.
"The prior name provision shows up in 3513.06.
"State law makes an exception for marriage, and Reps. Michele Grim, D-Toledo, and Beryl Piccolantonio, D-Gahanna, want to add any other legal name changes. As part of their transition, many people within the trans community abandon their given 'deadname' just as they turn the page on their previous gender identity.
“'If candidates have gone through the effort to legally change their name in a court of law in our state,' Grim asked in her written testimony, 'why must we deny them the ability to run for office using that same name?'
"Some, but not all, of the trans candidates who faced protests this year have been cleared to appear on the ballot. Two of them, Arienne Childrey and Bobbie Arnold, are now running against Republican officeholders advancing a bill to make it easier to kick candidates off the ballot in the future."
