2024.05.20 07:31 tacticalGandhi How am I supposed to enjoy high tiers?

Every game I lose as soon as I leave port. Half the games I get into the guy next to me refuses to go forward so I end up getting focused and blown up, unless I’m close enough to an island which isn’t very often. The games where my one teammate understands apes together strong it goes great for a few minutes until one dd gets bored and yolos themselves into 3 bbs and a radar cruiser. Then there’s carriers doing 20k a pass and 2 Iowas together don’t have enough AA to even slow them down.
I have a ton of fun in tier 6-7 games but as soon as I get put into a 7-8 game everything that can go wrong goes wrong.

2024.05.20 07:30 rdk67 Spring Day 61: Hot Cicada Sunday

Today! Today issued forth these existential moments, when the absence of human activity is the defining feature of the landscape – not because there is a disaster or a change of heart about the human project but because, well, I don’t know, so I grab my backpack, which stands for aspects of the soul that only sprout in alternate realities – and charge into the day to find out. By noon, the heat is like a flickering color in the mind – unseasonably early for this sort of highlight, and then I remember the cicadas are appearing, which might explain the sudden interest by the rest of the universe. Not halfway down the block, I’m startled by the first cicada of the season – near the top of the tallest tree by the building that houses the renowned music program. The cicada makes music all by itself, and it is like a siren made of clicks, a drumstick pulled across bones.
This is just the beginning of the historical emergence, and the location where I live is one of the nationally recognized hot spots. The people, I don’t believe, have evacuated, but they certainly aren’t rubbing their hands over the trembling earth, waiting for bulging eyes and knobby legs to drag a dirt-stained cicada out of the ground, then off to a place to molt. The molting process is brimming with the sort of metaphor we associate with heaven – something below ground for its whole remembered life, save for a brief time after it hatches, falls out of a tree and into the grass, crawls down into the soil to find a tasty dandelion root to suck on. That original body, on the brightest day of the year, goes searching for a hard vertical surface to cling to, like the side of the tree it was feeding on, then escapes out of its body through the hind end of its own skull.
The heat seems to have its own sense of choice in evidence. While I’m standing there, listening for more clicks, the heat generates a crackling sensation across my shoulders, like patches of my skin are sparkling below my shirt. The clouds – more of those cumulonimbus dreams-come-true – are simultaneously isles and aisles – two bulging eyes – both work, so whichever, either one a somewhat brawny pronunciation, like the words have to walk with a slight bow about the legs, because of the pronounced thigh muscles. Just as I turn to walk away from the lone cicada at the top of the school of music’s tallest tree, the clicking begins again. I stop and turn back to the tree – it stops. I turn to walk, and the clicking sounds again. Maybe the cicada brood will be so large, the movie we call reality has given them final cut, at least for the next few months, so I carry on.
That cicada was a female – they make that clicking sound by rubbing their wings together, and I picture the males all hearing the clicking as a variation of – could some big strong male crawl on over and open this jar for me? The male call is the more familiar whooping siren, which is made with a spasmodic diaphragm on their abdomens – Jerry Lee Lewis at his most raucous – though I believe he did play piano with his feet, so there are dissimilarities, too. The big winners will be the birds and fish, which are looking forward to extra animal protein wherever they look for the next couple of months, second nesting seasons all but in the bag. At the height of his fame, Jerry Lee famously wedded his 13-year-old cousin. Myra Williams was her name, and she said later, after the divorce, she was always the adult in the relationship. They stayed married for 13 years.
Scientists speculate that cicada broods follow such irregular cycles – 7 years, 13 years, 17 years – because they are prime numbers and therefore difficult for predators to sync to over time in the performance of their own boom and bust cycles. I like this theory, though I wonder why the rest of the animal kingdom hasn’t likewise worked the numbers – like cicadas launched themselves into a probabilistic deep-space orbit inside the mind of nature, and never looked back. I picture Neil Armstrong on the ladder of the lunar module, freezing in place, mission command busy on the radio but no reply from Neil until, all wet and new, he bursts forth through the back of his space helmet, as naked as the day he was born, gets busy inflating his wing casings, as mission control cheers, and the scientists all light cigarettes to relieve the stress, maybe hand out cigars.
The heat is a measure of energy in the system – to the extent it also accounts for human absence, we stay huddled inside on hot days like today due to chronic overabundance – nature is giving us too much – which is also true for many allergies and fevers – but with the overabundance of energy, you can find relief through the judicious application of even more energy, which option I used to always forego on general principle – I want to feel the reality of days overabundant as surely as days where the molecules are all optimally excited. These days, I’m in charge of a mid-sized HVAC operation, and thus, feel part of my body living inside a factory of probability that stretches around the world. We humans, on days like today, take it as a given that temperature-controlled climates are part of the deal, that molecules should be in optimal states of excitement.
Which, with self-similarity across scale in mind, might suggest nature treat our excitability with similar regard. Oh to live the life of temperate climes, where fairness and passion are concerned! I’m on my way to the library to borrow a book about love and rage, written by a Buddhist, who examines the roll of anger in transformation. I have no truck with my fellow human sufferers – literally no anger at all – but with human systems? Disembodied intelligences? Those aspects of the hyperform that privilege torment and indifference? When it climbs to a high enough part of the tree to be heard, I can indeed hear my anger. What’s that? A false reality precipitates false authority? Yet knowing this, hyperforms readily believe wealth confers merit. The exaggerated accumulation of capital is an existential disease assuaged with the delusion of personal success.
A block from the library, I come upon two boys playing in a pile of sand beside a garden. The one boy seems to be trying to burrow inside it, and the other is battering the sand with the flat side of a child-sized metal shovel. He has the wrong shovel for the job, a fact I choose to keep to myself, especially since the one really is trying to thwack the tall pile just as hard as he can. The sort of thing kids do in a spirit of curiosity – what happens to the world when the force of one’s anger is applied to a giant pile of sand? Perhaps the urge to use force for no reason is the human behavior we end up with when ambient energy gets so overabundant. This is what life seems to be – the planet’s novel approach to dissipating heat. We are much more than that, of course, and fortunately, the kids have plenty of time and energy to prove it. Their parents tell them to stop.
When a cicada molts, the effect is more than just a body crawling out of a body – for instance, in the moments before this happens, the cicada is visibly squirming inside its former self, which is permanently clinging to the side of a tree, and all the while, it is feeling the pronounced effect of gravity for the first time in its life, not to mention terrestrial life in the trees, where the sap flows freely and sunshine dances on those giant globular eyes for the first time. Emerging cicadas first do a backbend, then hang upside down by their hind ends, letting the legs, wings and abdomen inflate and adjust to the atmospheric pressure, which pressure gracefully draws the body back to an upright posture. They stay that way, letting their wings inflate, flatten out, stiffen. Veins in the wings were veins, were flesh, before the flesh became the will to fly, a means of saying hello.
Nearer the library, I catch sight of someone squatting in the subsurface terrace of the Unitarian-Universalist peace church – I spot a bedroll and backpack, a forty-ounce can of something cold to drink on such a sweltering day. The guy is leaning against the brick wall, staring into space, and I picture him being the pile of sand from the block before – the one repeatedly hit over the head with the flat side of a shovel. At the library, they’re resetting the furniture after a musical performance. I don’t really know who it was – I just see my favorite librarian thanking someone with a violin case, the sort of hardened case they used to carry machine guns around in, and for a moment I hear the rat-a-tat-tat that stands for the sound of anger overcoming us – but then it becomes that highest cicada, back at the top of her tree, rubbing her wings, building railroads.
The heat on the walk home – neighborhoods still evacuated – is like a drunken horse I’m forced to ride. I can feel my body swaying from side to side a little more than usual, so I try to imagine some other time – for instance, when our bodies will be able to take the heat on a day like today and do something with it – cranial stimulation or micromachines to repair the body or even just a way for the body to stay cool without installing an HVAC system. A crow stops me cold when I hear it imitating the sound of a cicada – it doesn’t have the tone exactly right, but it’s doing the clicks, and I know this is true of crows – they acquire new elements of language from what they hear, and the crows must be hearing female cicadas calling out to the others. What a witness! I call up to the crow – or maybe it’s just got a cicada in its beak. In instant reply, the crow shrieks.

2024.05.20 07:29 geta7_com What now?

Congrats M24! Here are answers to your remark, retake, and transcript questions. If you spot any errors please let me know.
CAS
CAS is graded only by your school, which must let IB know whether you completed CAS or not by Jun 1st.
Grade boundaries
Grade boundaries are determined after grading of exams, considering statistics/mark distribution, teachers' comments, and examiners' comments. So there is some safety net in place and your grade is only partially depended upon how others do.
Transcript and legalization
If a school or employer requests transcripts, let IB know by Jun 15th and check that you are correctly sending your transcripts to whoever needs them.
If IB results need to be legalized in your country, also let IB know by Jun 15th. Third party agencies may also offer similar services. Legalization sometimes requires photo id such as a passport.
If you want to change your name shown on your Diploma and transcript, such as to be consistent with your passport, let your coordinator know ASAP. It can only be changed before results release or after Jan 1, 2025.
Copyright
You own your work. Yet, IB retains a non-exclusive right to reproduce your work for training etc, often without identifying you. You can waive IB of their non-exclusive right by Jun 1st. It does not mean IB will return your marked papers (see category 2B EUR below), and your work will stay in their database of past IAs. Rather, claiming exclusive copyright is mostly for reclaiming your art or other valuable work.
You can always publish your work. Though be careful in posting your IAs or essays to platforms that may be perceived to facilitate academic dishonesty.
Results day
On Jul 6th, results will be available on candidates.ibo.org through staggered release from noon GMT every 15 minutes, based on your location. Your coordinators get them 24 hours in advance. Would be great if everyone refrained from refreshing twice every second.
On Jul 7th, component marks will be released to coordinators, who decide if they want to share with you or not.
Remark
There are several categories of enquiry upon results (EuR).
In Category 1, a more senior or consistent examiner checks over the existent grading. Some quality control exists in the form of "seed scripts" mixed with real remark papers. This is true for the original grading as well. If your grade is "much lower" than predicted, it may have been checked by senior examiners already.
A Category 1 remark cost about the same as an exam. It can be requested max once per subject. The new grade replaces your old grade, even if it goes down. If the grade out of 7 changes, you get a refund.
Under half of all remarks remain the same mark out of 100%. Most remarks come back within +/- 1%. Very few remarks come back outside of +/- 3%, though a tiny fraction of remarks see very big changes. Consider if you genuinely believe an examiner made a mistake or if you just want to give IB your (or your parents') money.
You can also request a category 2B (digital) return of materials by candidate, for about 15%-20% the cost of a Category 1 remark. Here you will see all your exam scripts for a subject along with marks awarded per question or per criterion. It allows you to review your work to make a more informed decision about remark, especially if you have a limited budget and can only remark one or two subjects. The number of comments you get depends on the grader and subject.
Other categories are irrelevant to students, or are only available after a category 1 remark. Your IAs can be re-moderated only if your class average dropped by 15% or more during moderation.
EuRs can be initiated until Sep 15th.
Retake
Unlike remarks which take the newer grade, retakes take the higher grade. Remark and retake are completely separate processes.
Nov 2024 (six-month) retakes must be registered by July 29th. Instead of waiting for your remark results, you can first register for retake then withdraw for full refund if you grade goes up. You cannot change your subjects, other than moving a 4th HL down to SL. Retaking 12 months or later does allow subject changes. There are various curriculum changes each May, which require new IAs. See https://ibo.org/university-admission/latest-curriculum-updates/
When the curriculum stays the same, you can carryover your non-exam components, such as IAs and Group 1 HL Essay. Otherwise, they must be rewritten on new topics. TOK essay retakes must be on the prompts for that session. Retaking EEs require new RPPF.
If you are an Anticipated candidate, ie taking rest of your exams in May 2025, you can opt to retake your anticipated subject(s) in May 2025, or change them to other subjects.
For other questions about IB, check out my IB FAQ page.

2024.05.20 07:29 EeK09 UDM-Pro: drive formatted, but won't mount?

I turned my UDM-Pro into a makeshift NAS after installing Samba to it, and everything was working fine until a few days ago, when the share folder I'd created suddenly disconnected.
After trying pretty much everything (changing credentials, uninstalling/purging samba and reinstalling from scratch), I gave up and decided to reformat the drive from the console.
I noticed that, although it was still correctly identified as Samsung SSD 870 EVO 2TB in the "Storage" section, the capacity on display was incorrect ("1.71 GB used out of 10.0 GB", which is just the UDM-Pro's internal storage, I believe). One more reason to format, right?
Well, a few minutes into the process, the drive information was replaced by a big red "Disk Failure Detected", with "Replace this disk immediately." right below it.
Trying to format again and rebooting the UDMP several times didn't help at all, so I went duckduckgoing and found this post, with promising instructions by jlagermann.
Running fdisk -l /dev/sda gave me this:
Disk /dev/sda: 1.86 TiB, 2048408248320 bytes, 4000797360 sectors Disk model: Samsung SSD 870 Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disklabel type: gpt Disk identifier: [redacted] Device Start End Sectors Size Type /dev/sda1 2048 1050623 1048576 512M Linux filesystem /dev/sda2 2097152 6291455 4194304 2G Linux filesystem /dev/sda3 6291456 8388607 2097152 1G Linux filesystem /dev/sda5 16777216 4000797326 3984020111 1.9T Linux filesystem
So, the drive has been successfully formatted and is working, despite what the UDM-Pro claims.
Then, I ran wipefs -a /dev/sda a couple of times (while making sure nothing was removed the second time, as per the instructions), rebooted the UDM-Pro (through Console Settings > Console Controls > Restart) and ran df -h to verify if the drive had been mounted correctly. Spoiler alert, it hadn't:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on udev 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /dev tmpfs 395M 56M 340M 14% /run /dev/disk/by-partlabel/root 2.0G 1.4G 471M 75% /boot/firmware /dev/loop0 680M 680M 0 100% /mnt/.rofs /dev/disk/by-partlabel/overlay 9.4G 1.1G 7.8G 12% /mnt/.rwfs overlayfs-root 9.4G 1.1G 7.8G 12% / /dev/disk/by-partlabel/log 974M 114M 793M 13% /valog /dev/disk/by-partlabel/persistent 2.0G 144M 1.7G 8% /persistent tmpfs 2.0G 28K 2.0G 1% /dev/shm tmpfs 5.0M 4.0K 5.0M 1% /run/lock tmpfs 987M 84K 987M 1% /tmp tmpfs 16M 0 16M 0% /valog/ulog tmpfs 64M 140K 64M 1% /vaopt/unifi/tmp
/dev/disk/sda1 should be mounted to /mnt/data_ext, and, as you can see, it's not. In fact, the 2TB drive doesn't even show up!
Tl;dr:
  1. Drive was working fine as a network shared folder with Samba;
  2. Share stopped working, and uninstalling, purging and reinstalling Samba didn't help;
  3. Tried formatting the drive via console, UDM-Pro told me it had failed;
  4. SSH'ed my way into it, found out it it's been formatted and is working, it's just not getting mounted.
Any tips?

A few discussion idea questions for a potential jail sequence during the intro. Personally I am a big fan of the idea of starting in prison.
1) What would be the side/mini missions?
2) What would be the death animations/fail screens?
3) Would there be a mini tutorial home mechanic? (Customizing cell?)
4) Can we get intruduced clothing customizations (idk wearing the uniform or a tanktop)
5) What kind of characters can appear?
6) Would the player ever return the jail (story or mechanically)
7) How long the intro would take ? 15-20 minutes?

Joseph Burkes MD 2024
The high desert outside of Roswell is where contact activist Shari Adamiak was reportedly attacked.

Introduction

In my judgment, flying saucers threaten all terrestrial elites, but not necessarily the planet’s people. Given what is a perceived threat to the status quo,
both corporate and Executive Branch Intelligence operatives have historically been compelled to deal with UFOs as a non-human intelligence counterintelligence challenge.

As a Working Group Coordinator in the 1990s for the Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind Initiative, I observed signs of obvious surveillance of our contact efforts. Young men in civilian clothing with a military bearing were frequently present at our research sites. Team members were blatantly photographed on arrival at a fieldwork location. On one occasion, military helicopters and on another F-14s buzzed us during our investigations.

Contact activists who are staging Human Initiated Contact Events (HICE) aka CE5, might in some ways be ideal targets to try out what are now called Directed Energy Weapons. This is because we already are under surveillance and the effects of such non-lethal technology can be readily monitored via telephone conversations and email.

Importantly, as the result of a de facto policy of ridicule and denial, most people imagine that those attempting to contact aliens” are probably mentally ill. Once targeted and attacked, contact activists would find little sympathy from the larger society, including police and medical authorities, if they dared to complain about such attacks. Thus, the technology can be developed with little interference.

“The Havana Syndrome”

During the past few years, current and former US government employees have reported being targeted by are called “Directed Energy Weapons.” The failure of US Executive Branch to identify the precise source of these alleged attacks and to adequately deal with the long-term health consequences of them, has led to charges of a coverup. The victims describe experiencing a wide range of symptoms: headaches, dizziness, blurred vision and memory loss and insomnia.

Shari Adamiak, a Prominent Leader in our Human Initiated Contact Network
Shari Adamiak was a Working Group Coordinator in the CE-5 Initiative from 1991 until her death in 1998. She played an immeasurable role in the formulation of the CSETI Contact Protocols and the development of contact teams that operated primarily in the Western United States during the 1990s. Several times Shari also accompanied the CSETI Director Dr. Greer to Southern England to investigate the relationship between UFOs and Crop Circle phenomena.

Directed Energy Weapon Attack in the United Kingdom

As a fellow contact team leader, I always paid close attention to what she shared with me about her work. If memory serves me correctly, after returning from the UK in 1994(although it might have been 1993) I heard a very disturbing account from her. While in Southern England, Shari and two other crop circle investigators were sitting at an outdoor café. A commercial van of some sort pulled up and parked about twenty yards away. Suddenly all three women developed the following symptoms, vertigo, nausea, light headedness, muscle ache and headache. According to Shari all were feeling perfectly fine before the onset of the symptoms which lasted perhaps ten or fifteen minutes and then gradually resolved. Shari stated the van then drove away.

“Psychotronic” Weaponry Appears to Target Human Consciousness
In 1994 both Steven Greer MD and Shari Adamiak reported to our network that they had been targeted with what Greer called “psychotronic” weaponry. (In Shari’s report posted below she used the term “psychoelectronic.” In his oral history book “Hidden Truth Forbidden Knowledge,” the CSETI leader described a series of attacks starting in the fall of 1994. One reportedly occurred in New York City after a meeting with a member of a European royal family.
“After falling fast asleep, I awakened hours later. I couldn't raise my arms; I couldn't roll over; I couldn't move! I was in a state of complete physical paralysis. I
knew what was going on; a directional electromagnetic weapons system hit me. It was coming through the window above my bed. Projected into the room was the single most extreme sense of evil and terror I've ever felt in my life. I could tell they were attempting to extract my astral body out of my physical body.”

This appears to be different from what Shari described above in the UK attack but is similar to what she stated happened to her in New Mexico in October 1994 during a UFO investigation. I have posted a portion of her official CSETI report on that mission below as part of my Contact Network History Project.

Readers please note that "CTS" is the abbreviation for "Coherent Thought Sequencing. This is the term Steven Greer MD coined for group meditation involving either thought projection to, and /or remote viewing of "extraterrestrial spacecraft", combined with the group's intention to interact peacefully with the non-human intelligences piloting those craft.

REPORT OF THE RAPID MOBILIZATION INVESTIGATIVE TEAM
MISSION TO THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO, U.S.A.
OCTOBER 1- 7. 1994

~INTRODUCTION~

A small Rapid Mobilization Investigative Team (RMIT) of three CSETI members met in Albuquerque, New Mexico to investigate activities in the state, and to take a reconnaissance trip to the Roswell area. Members of the team for this mission included: Steven M. Greer, M.D., international director of SETI; Shari Adamiak, CSETI executive council, coordinator for the RMIT, the working groups, and the Denver, Colorado group; and Patrick Sullivan, a CSETI member from Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

The starting date of the mission followed immediately after Steven Greer's appearance on the Larry King Live special the previous night near Area 57, Rachel, Nevada.

We traveled to the Roswell area after joining up on October 2nd. Here we spent time in prayer and thought to help heal the area and the energy from the crashes of space craft in New Mexico in the late 1940s and 1950s.

Our trip was primarily of an investigative nature. Besides wanting to do research around Roswell, we were also following up on activity reported in Midway, outside Roswell. We also wanted to investigate the White Sands area, as it had been the site of extreme activity in the past and is also an area that Dr. Greer feels may be the site of a future, cooperative landing and meeting between extraterrestrial intelligent beings and representatives from this planet, including government, military and civilian (a small CSETI team).

The report that follows is real-time dictation and field notes from this mission.

Respectfully submitted,
Shari Adamiak
CSETI Executive Council

RAPID MOBILIZATION INVESTIGATIVE TEAM MISSION TO NEW MEXICO - OCTOBER 2- 7, 1994

Real-time dictation from the field each night follows:
~October 2, 1994:~

We are outside of Roswell, New Mexico on our first night of a RMIT. Present are Steven Greer, Patrick Sullivan, and Shari Adamiak. We have just camped out on a road of a county road between Midway and Dexter. We have seen one anomalous object flying in the East, very low to the horizon headed towards the North. Did not appear to have any strobing lights. When Steven signaled to it, the object rose up a little bit and became noticeably brighter, changing from red to white. Also, as that was occurring, I saw a shooting star at about 25° above the Eastern horizon headed North.

10:50pm and two shooting stars just seen in the zenith by Patrick and Steven. Patrick just reported a very brilliant shooting star, shooting from East to West by the Milky Way. It's about 11:00. Patrick said it was the fastest "shooting star" he's ever seen. Just a moment later a second shooting star was seen by Patrick almost parallel to the other. It's just a minute or so after 11:00 and we have just been observing in the SE a very unusual strobing object visible only through the night vision scope, moving very low to the horizon with a rapid strobe to it. We can't see it with the naked eye.

At 11:40pm we had an experience during Coherent Thought Sequencing (CTS) where Steven and I both felt there was something directly over us and at the same time Patrick reported seeing a strobing above us. Steven then felt they were directly behind his head. The hair on the back of his neck stood up. He got up and on the very low Northern horizon was able to see the red-amber colored light.

It's about midnight. We're having an unusual sighting over in the East. We've been watching an object that moved South and then became stationary. Now it looks as if it could be a planet rising. It has a red-amber look to it or the object could be just totally stationary. We did signal to it. It seemed to flare up. It's about 5° above the horizon, directly across from us in the East. This object that we were looking at appeared to have positioned itself in front of either Regel or Betelgeuse in Orion, which that was a part of and is now fully risen and is beautiful in the Eastern sky.

~October 3, 1994:~

We are out at a site East of Roswell. It's just a minute or two before 7:00pm. We're getting something to east. It’s partly cloudy. It’s in the 70s. It looks like it will be fairly clear for most of the night. West. We are directly across from the mountain Capital to the West. To our East there is a vent for a gas well that's burning.

It's 7:50 and in the East towards Midway we are observing some twinkling, strobing type lights. There are two or three of them. They seem to be like the lights described that Mr. Escamillo has on video from Midway. About a minute later, we don't see them at all. Oh, I just saw one flash farther to the East. We are not sure if these could be aircraft or something anomalous. They are dim to bright and white. These white blinking objects have continued on to the East, traveling in the South part of the sky. They are continuing to do strobing and flashing but in no regular pattern. They appear to be chasing each other randomly across the sky, rather slowly.

It's 10:15pm and there is one single white bright light appearing in the South that is signaling back to us. It is very low on the horizon, maybe even on the ground. The object just signaled back twice after a signal sent to it of two flashes. It is in the area of Bottomless Lakes State Park, which is due South of us. It's about 5 or 10 minutes later and this light in the South is again signaling. It's moved just a bit. It moves a bit to the East or the West, but it's still completely low, right on the horizon. We don't know if it's terrestrial or extraterrestrial at this point. It is 10:35 when this signaling has reoccurred again. Steven is now looking at it through the night vision binoculars and he says it is a continuously illuminated object that's on right now, even when it is not signaling to us. It just now flashed again faintly. We will continue to signal to this and report. The sky has also become completely clear except for around the very far edges and just in the East. Through the night vision scope, Patrick is seeing that there is also a corresponding strobing light in the sky about 10° above the horizon that's in synch with the one that's here on the ground. But we cannot see the one in the sky without using the night vision scope.

It's 11:00 and the light across the road in the South by the Bottomless Lakes has just illuminated itself about 5 or 6 times to us. It definitely seems to be under intelligent control. The last round of signaling that's going on now started up just after we broadcast the tones out over the walkie-talkie. It's just a few minutes after 11:00 and Steven saw an extremely fast moving "meteorite" just to the East of zenith. He said it was faster than anything he's ever seen move. Also, it happened to Patrick last night - that same type of extremely fast moving object.

It's 11:55 and we were just hit from behind to our East by some beam that was low and on the ground that swept right across the field encompassing us.

NOTE THAT JUST AS I WAS TRANSCRIBING THIS, I LEARNED THAT THE TAPE IS BLANK FROM THIS POINT ON FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT. VERY INTERESTING IN THAT THE EVENT THAT FOLLOWED WAS VERY UNUSUAL. WHAT FOLLOWS IS MY NARRATIVE REPORT BASED ON RECOLLECTION SINCE THE TAPE HAS BEEN
COMPROMISED. THE BLANK SPOT LASTS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS NIGHT'S DICTATION, THEN PICKS UP AGAIN ON THE FOLLOWING NIGHT'S FIELD DICTATION. I BELIEVE THIS BLANK SPACE IN THE TAPE IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE PSYCHOELECTRONIC ATTACK.

Narrative Report:

Soon after this round of light signaling, we did a Coherent Thought Sequencing. I was in a deep state of unbounded mind when I felt my body struck by an invisible beam of negative energy. It caused nearly total paralysis except that my body was wracked with small convulsions from what I sensed to be a psychoelectronic, non-lethal weapon. I could hear myself moaning slowly. I felt that the beam was coming from my left, towards Bottomless Lakes. I sensed three shadowy figures that appeared to be human men. The beam had the effect of separating me from my teammates. Since I only had the faculty of mind at my disposal during the attack, I mentally asked where Patrick and Steven were. I finally could sense Patrick out I front of me, distance away. I could not see or sense Steven. I kept asking mentally, “Where is Steven?” in as authoritative tone as I could manage while under attack. Receiving no response, I began to mentally call to Steven. He must have mentally picked up my thoughts because I felt him take my hands even though he was not there physically. He then hugged me and the attack ended. I sensed that it was our combined energy that was able to break the beam. I then rather passed out for a few minutes.

When our CTS ended, I clearly recalled everything that happened and knew I had not dozed off and had a dream. It was ultimately real. I was still a bit weak from the attack. Steven asked if something happened. I said, "you won't believe this" and proceeded to tell Steven and Patrick most of what occurred. Patrick had been unaware of any of this during our CTS. When I finished, Steven said, "wait until you hear this". During the CTS, he heard a voice that said, "are you ready to go?" He then felt that the energy was instantly scrambled and he lost the connection. He could hear me faintly moaning and sensed that I was in distress. He then came to me etherically and hugged me. The dove tailing of our experiences was incredible. For some days, I pondered on this event. It had a profound effect upon me, and still does to this day. I knew it was highly significant that we were able to break the attack with combined positive energy. I also instinctively and absolutely felt that the attack had come from human beings. I knew that it was not sent by extraterrestrials. The beam carried with it fear and terror which I knew were being projected upon me by an outside force. I did not feel that fear and terror from within my own being, but I was forced to experience it.

We then saw the ground-based lights at Bottomless Lakes flashing randomly again. It was nearly 1:00 by now and we decided to pack up. And drive over there to investigate. As we were in a flat open area, and anyone at Bottomless could have seen us coming for literally a mile. We drove around the Bottomless Lakes State Park, shining our 1.5 million candle power light all about. No traces of anyone or any vehicles were seen. There is a county road that cuts out of Bottomless Lakes which could make for an easy get-away for any one in that park.

2024.05.20 07:15 Hefty-Fee-1669 My neighbour is threatening to end my life

[EDIT- possible TW for mention of sa, and death threats]
Not really sure where to begin, but I (F19) am being harassed, stalked, threatened & more by my neighbours. For context I live on a street of flat/apartment buildings, in my building there is me, one man (irrelevant), and another woman in her late 30s. 2 doors down is the other neighbours (early 40s, late 50s, and mid 40s).
All four of these neighbours, plus one of the neighbours daughters (early 30s) have taken it upon themselves to harass me and attempt to get me evicted. I moved here almost a year ago, they have all been here 10+ years so are close knit.
The woman in my actual apartment building, I will call Susan for the sake of not confusing you too much, is the main issue, as well as 'Amy' the woman in her early 40s. Amy is constantly making up lies anout me to other neighbours to the point I've had them threaten me in the street, despite never speaking to them ever.
I have 48 minutes of audio recordings of Susan threatening to kll me, break into my flat, kll my dog, smash my windows in, skin myself and my dog alive, set fire to my flat when my dog is left home alone, and even worse things along the lines of making up false r*pe allegations to get me arrested which I won't go into (which are all obviously untrue).
Susan is constantly banging on my doors, ringing my buzzer, putting her phone up to my windows to record me in my bedroom, and I even had a dr*g dealer barge through my front door and sleep on my sofa, refusing to leave for over 7 hours, threatening me if I called the police to get him removed.
I have had a man (she prstitutes herself to drg dealers, for context) leave her flat to come and tell me that she is attempting to convince/hire the group of men in her flat to break into mine or beat me up on the street to 'teach me a lesson'.
I have severe PTSD from a similar situation involving DV and SA, and also suffer from extreme paranoia due to OCD & Bipolar so this has taken a huge toll on my mental state, I don't sleep most nights because my brain convinces me that if I even close my eyes for a few seconds someone is going to break in, or set fire to my flat.
I have reported this to our landlord and the police, neither will do anything because I am not in 'immediate danger'. I do now have an open police report against her and 'Amy' though, in case anything does happen.
Amy and I used to be friends of Facebook before she started harassing me and telling lies to others, so she had access to my friends list on there. She went through all my FB friends to private message them and make up lies, saying I was talking behind their backs and telling my male frienfs I was making false claims about SA, which never happened and I never said.
This has gotten so bad that family members have reached out to me, I have lost friends, and Amy has dedicated entire catfish social media accounts just to stalk me, even joining all the Facebook groups I'm in to watch everything I post. She also watches me on her Ring doorbell camera, and posts clips of me walking past her house (I have to walk past it to leave our street) to her Facebook, and will even stand outside watching and waiting for me to leave my building so she can throw drinks and cigarettes at me as I walk past (we don't have front yards, so the distance between us is only around 1-2ft) and verbally assault me.
I'm at a loss on what to do, I can't afford to move elsewhere, our landlord is ignoring my complaints, and police won't do anything until she physically assaults me.
I just need advice on what to do to be honest, I'm so tired of it all

The high desert near Roswell was where contact activist Shari Adamiak was reportedly attacked

Shari was one of the principal organizers of the CE-5 Initiative. She is greatly missed.

2024.05.20 07:13 lucky_719 Passed AT/AT/B in one month. Took online. Total spent $584.

My actual study time was really closer to two weeks because I took a few weeks off to travel and be distracted. (Recently laid off) I spent 4 hours in the hospital the day before the exam with excruciating back pain. Sitting for so long testing with that level of pain was one of the more miserable things I've done, but I wanted to get it over with. I had 30 minutes left to spare and took a 5 minute and 8 minute break.
I spent a total of $584, exam was $425 with membership. Membership was $159. I did not pay for the local charter. I did not pay for any study materials.
I did take the exam online. I know in person is recommended and I expected to do it that way but the earliest date available was mid June and I wasn't waiting 4 weeks to take it. I barred my husband from the room and from making any noise at all. He was good about keeping the cats away from the door. I cleaned everything out of the bedroom that I possibly could. I used a laptop but used an Ethernet cable for Internet. I set my laptop up on a clear plastic tote so it would be eye level. I paid a lot of attention during the exam to ensure I only looked at the screen and didn't go out of view even for a second. I drew all of my blinds and curtains closed. I kept water and some light snacks in my bathroom (separate room) in case I needed it during breaks. The proctor never interacted with me. Not once. It was a bit unnerving but extremely smooth process and I'm grateful as I had a lot of anxiety around testing online. The worst part was having to wait 25 hours and 38 minutes (who is counting?) after the test had ended for my results.
Background: I have severe ADHD but I am a very good test taker. I'm one of those sick people that finds these things fun. I have passed the financial licensing exams series 7, 63, and 66. If you are familiar with them, the series exams had more content to learn, but the PMP questions were very similar in structure and difficulty to the 63 and 66. Overall I thought the PMP was easier but I had less professional experience when I took the series exams. I took a lot of AP exams back in high school. I'd say this test was harder question wise than any of those but again, less content to cover. I'm a senior scrum master for tech teams with years of experience. I've never worked as a formal project manager in waterfall but I am extremely good at what I do. I mentor many other scrum masters and know agile inside and out. I didn't study for the agile part of the test at all. I took about 60 agile practice questions for reassurance and amusement but only got three wrong so figured I was good. I also have a bachelor's degree in business (years ago) so a good chunk was just a refresher.
I didn't spend any money on materials so here's what I did to study.
I started with Oliver Lehmann's free exam. I do think it was harder than the PMP but I wanted to get a baseline before doing anything. I reviewed all of the questions afterwards and wrote down the topics I really needed to focus on. I scored a 68% the first time through.
I started reading the PMBOK guide you get when you pay for the exam. I downloaded it on my Kindle and would read it when I had the attention span to do so. I read the first 50% of the entire PDF they give you but wish I would've started halfway through as it probably would have been more useful for me. It was taking too long and I was getting antsy so I stopped reading it.
When I didn't have the attention span to read, I binge watched David McLachlan's YouTube videos. I went through the 7th edition PMBOK video three times. First for content, second to check any weaknesses, third to review. I also cast the questions to my TV screen and would pause the question before he read it, answer it myself, then watch him go through it. If I saw any videos of areas of weakness he posted I'd go through them. I went through 60 of his agile questions but the rest of the time I was going through the waterfall ones. I can't give you a count. It was a lot. I did the larger question videos too. This helped the most out of anything I did.
I borrowed a lot of exam prep materials from the library but didn't end up opening any of them at all.
Finally I used this subreddit. Whenever I saw someone post a question they didn't know I'd go through it. So thank you all! I paid a lot of attention to what others were using and what I knew would work for me. I also had a friend who took it a few days before me and we would send each other practice questions or talk about it almost daily. It helped keep me accountable and motivated even when I started slacking off.
Maybe I was over confident but I did get sick of studying and just scheduled the exam for a few days later. I didn't feel 100% prepared but I did feel like I was solid enough to have a good chance of passing. Clearly I should have studied more on the business environments part lol.
Good luck to you all! It really is a beast of a test and frankly I never want to do that again.

2024.05.20 07:10 retirement_savings Is it just me or does T-Mobile suck in Seattle?

If I'm out and about in the city my data easily cuts out every 5 minutes or so. Today I got off the light rail in U Village and was trying to call and Uber and gave up after a few minutes because I wasn't able to connect. Super annoying. I have a newer phone (Pixel 7 Pro).

2024.05.20 07:10 sven2788 Autopilot - Fresh computer asking for a pin

So, I got a interesting one here and I'm not sure what the culprit is quite yet.
So my standard build is as follows:
  1. Reimage computer with SCCM.
  2. Upload hardware hash to Intune via Powershell script.
  3. Reset computer to OOBE
  4. Give computer to new user
  5. User logs in
  6. Intune Autopilot pushes apps and configs to user.
  7. Done
For some reason though, I am getting the following:
  1. Reimage computer with SCCM.
  2. Upload hardware hash to Intune via Powershell script.
  3. Reset computer to OOBE
  4. Give computer to new user
  5. User logs in
  6. Intune Autopilot runs for a couple of minutes, blows right through the Device setup, and asks the user for a pin (Which we disabled in our Intune policies).
If I reset the computer though, everything runs just fine. This all started when the MC721851 change took place, Reddit article.
Thoughts on where I should start looking to solve this?

2024.05.20 07:08 LawrenceBrolivier We not doing the Horizon Part 1 Cannes Review Roundups?

'cause they hit like 6-7 hours ago! I thought they'd have been up already, but I guess not. Seems he got himself a 7-minute ovation though, and told the audience he was sorry they had to clap for so long. Real aw shucks sorta feller. Anyway: the reviews!
Robert Daniels, rogerebert.com
As much as Costner tries to play an even hand, attempting to give the Indigenous and settler perspective equal attention, it doesn’t wholly work. Yes, we meet the family of the Apache warriors, but their screen time pales in comparison to their white counterparts. It also doesn’t help that the white women characters are, for the most part, so clean and luminous—nary a speck of dust on them despite their grungy surroundings—that they appear angelic on screen. The score is equally telling: It’s a gorgeous, big, triumphant Old Hollywood score whose most sympathetic notes are reserved for the film’s white characters. Costner does at least include a diverse cast, nodding toward the presence of Black people and Chinese immigrants in the history of the West, tracing across the vast, sumptuously photographed landscape by DP J. Michael Muro.
While “Horizon” teases a kind of conspiracy theory—a mysterious publisher is printing and sending pamphlets promising a land of milk of honey that is only occupied by death—I can’t help but continue to think about the film in relation to “How The West Was Won.” That Western, ultimately, couldn’t overcome the weight of the era it was created in or genre conventions like forced, feeble romances. “Horizon” is arriving in a more “enlightened” time, especially considering the release of Martin Scorsese’s “Killer of the Flower Moon” and other Indigenous-made works, such as “Reservation Dogs,” “Wild Indian,” “The Body Remembers When the World Broken Open,” “Beans,” and more. That presence put even greater pressure on Costner. And so far, he hasn’t completely overcome being the director of “Dances with Wolves.” That filmmaker, for better or for worse, still exists here in every corner of this epic picture.
Owen Glieberman, variety.com
As a stand-alone film (which it isn’t, but let’s pretend for a moment), “Horizon” is by turns convoluted, ambitious, intriguing, and meandering. But it’s never quite moving. It’s too busy laying down narrative tracks and hammering out the minutiae of situations that don’t feel like they’re leading anywhere special.
The real problem is the script (by Costner and Jon Baird), which is shapeless. It doesn’t weave these stories together; it stacks them next to each other like a series of cabooses. Yet I think the idea is that the design of it all will come into focus as we see “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2” (later this year), and then, at some point, “Chapter 3” (which is now scheduled) and maybe, if all goes according to plan, more chapters. I seriously hope not. I’m not sure how much juice there is to squeeze out of these characters, but even if there is some I don’t want to see movies turn into television. Just about every Western of the studio era came in at two hours or less, and so did most of the revisionist Westerns (and some of those were complicated). There’s a reason for that. It’s all the time they needed.
David Rooney, thehollywoodreporter.com
Running a taxing three hours, this first part of a quartet of films is littered with inessential scenes and characters that go nowhere, taking far too long to connect its messy plot threads. Warner Bros. will release Chapter One in U.S. theaters June 28, with Chapter Two following on August 16 and Chapter Three reportedly going into production. A vigorous montage closes the first part with action-packed snippets from the next installment, adding to the nagging sense that we’re watching episodic TV that lost its way.
What’s most perplexing coming from Costner is the uncomfortably long time the film takes to show sensitivity toward its Indigenous characters. We’re well into Horizon before the perspective on Native resistance is broadened to acknowledge that their murderous attacks on new settlements are a direct response to the occupation of their ancestral lands. It’s very confusing to see a Western in 2024 and find yourself thinking, “Wait, so American Indians are the bad guys again?”
Gregory Ellwood, theplaylist.com
As “Horizon” progresses, there are numerous new storylines added to the equation. Some are almost trivial, others cliche (even for the genre), and few appear to add much to whatever the whole of Costner’s vision will eventually be. It just feels like very low stakes all around. And when you realize there isn’t even a minor conclusion to any of the narratives, the movie ends with essentially a slew of weak cliffhangers (if they can even be constituted as such), you wonder once again, “Why is this a movie?” This is an ongoing long-form television series propped up on the big screen. It’s that’s appealing you’ll be thrilled to know Costner ends the three hours with an extended teaser that seemingly gives away quite a bit for “Chapter 2” (you’re welcome for the spoiler warning). Thankfully, if you like “Chapter 1” you only have to wait six weeks for that installment to hit your local multiplex.
Besides the debate over whether it is or isn’t a movie, there’s also the question of the depiction of Native Americans in the end product. It’s initially refreshing to hear Gephardt question the settlers as to why of all places they set up camp in Horizon. Did the three graves across the river not suggest perhaps this riverbed was off-limits? Gephardt and Riordan also give much-needed exposition on the other Apache tribes and indigenous groups that are relatively peaceful to settlers if you leave them alone. The conversations within the Apache tribe also depict an old guard attempting to make the argument to an angry, impatient new generation ready that they are safe in the hills. They don’t need to engage with the settlers. The youngsters want nothing of it and demand their land back by any means necessary. In theory, this is a smart depiction of the various viewpoints of this era. But Costner and composer John Debney score the attack on Horizon (and other Indian encounters) with a sweeping and grandiose sympathy only for the settlers (who, again, shouldn’t be there). It almost undoes all of the positive portrayal that comes before it.
Richard Lawson, vanityfair.com
Horizon is far from stately, or even coherent. A jumble of clichéd plots rendered in washed-out color (and washed-out performances), Horizon may rival Megalopolis as the biggest American boondoggle at this year’s Cannes. Sure, what appears disorderly may turn out to be genius by the time we’ve seen the end of the project—but ten hours is an awfully long time to wait to find out.
The three central narratives, as I see it, concern the ragged townspeople of a settlement in the San Pedro River valley (called Horizon) ; a gruff gunslinger making his way across the mountains further north with a woman and a child in tow; and a Santa Fe Trail wagon train snaking its way toward Horizon. (I think?) There is, halfheartedly, a fourth thread, about schisms within the Apache tribes who are native to the territory on which Horizon was hastily built. But the film only pays them lip service. Mostly they function as the brutal antagonizers of the Horizon townsfolk, who are nearly wiped out in a nighttime raid that is one of the film’s very few action sequences—the rest is the dullest and hoariest of talk.
Perhaps all will cogently, even movingly, converge in Chapter 2, but there’s little reason to have faith. This first foray sets a table that seems beyond saving by the end. At least Horizon accomplishes one staggering feat: it makes one wonder if we were maybe a little too hard on The Postman.

2024.05.20 07:05 BluBurningAngel Advice of getting a follow-up test

I've been stressing about getting another test done all week. Had my first consultation, took an at home test and results (from what I'm to understand) we're fairly low. Dr suggested I get an in lab test done but after I've seen the cost for the first visit and test that I self administered im really doubting if I NEED this in lab test. So here's my results copy and pasted below, looks like I don't have very serious sleep apnea right? Honestly just can't decide what I should do so any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
"A total of 11 respiratory events were observed during the analysis period as follows, 4 obstructive apneas, 0 central apneas, 0 mixed apneas, and 7 hypopneas for an apnea/hypopnea index of 1.5/hour.
The lowest SpO2 was 92% with an average of 96%.

I have been offered really high dollar Costco orders since it started a couple days ago as high as $38 for 9 items for 7 miles. I haven’t been into a Costco in years, and my last memory of being there is lines almost 15 carts long taking 20-30 minutes to check out. Im in Las Vegas, if any Vegas drivers have taken a Costco order from the one on park run was it worth it? In general how have they gone so far for drivers?

Let's take a minute and look into demons selection and ranking, it's actually solid; for u to rank up you can either:
-Do a blood battle against someone stronger than you and replace him.
-Devour more humans and become more evil gain Muzan trust to make you stronger. He always tells Daki and Rui to do so.
-Kill many slayers and prove yourself to Muzan, so he can give you more blood.

Now look at the corps, it starts with a bunch of kids that we don't know why they want to be slayers to begin with, and most of them as in s1 seems to don't know what the F they're doing. Firstly, they must after an unspecified training period, pass a selection exam where they stay in a mountain filled with demons for 7 days, now the issue is that most of them depend of cowardice and hiding and not actual skill to survive as in Sabito case where only the fodders earned the title, now isn't this supposed to be a noble title, in s1 there was many slayers using their comrades as human shield to run and hide, this isn't a fckin hunter exam, it's a moral job; they're being trained to protect and save people. I can't even believe that Kagaya -the supposedly wise leader- of the corps is training incompetent slayers with bad morals to save Japan.
The funny thing is that Sanemi said that the trainers are to blame, this system is so corrupt that even the hashira don't know what's going on, the training arc solidified even more that these final selection survivors are nothing but bunch of fools that are more suited as human shields than fighting.
That's why I love Muzan theme more, because his behavior fits his personality as an evil entity, he lets his subordinates die for him and he doesn't care as long as his Narcissistic ass is the one who benefits, but in the same time he rewards them with power and rank if they do benefit him, he literally thanked Hantengu for indirectly getting Nezuko to show her sun resistance showing how egocentric he is.
Another thing to mention is Kokushibo he is the highest ranking demon, he cares alot about the hierchy and ranking and he's willing to blood battle anyone like Akaza just to push them to become stronger.

The high desert near Roswell was where contact activist Shari Adamiak reportedly was attacked

That's why I love Muzan theme more, because his behavior fits his personality an an evil entity, he lets his subordinates die for him and he doesn't care as long as his Narcissistic ass is the one who benefits, but in the same time he rewards them with power and rank if they do benefit him, he literally thanked Hantengu for indirectly getting Nezuko to show her sun resistance showing how egocentric he is.
Another thing to mention is Kokushibo he is the highest ranking demon, he cares alot about the hierchy and ranking and he's willing to blood battle anyone like Akaza just to push them to become stronger.

2024.05.20 06:58 const003 GF refuses to cooperate with the way of life. thoughts?

Hey, I'm a 21 year old that for some reason got really lucky in the gaming industry. I run a company that controls a big portfolio of games, and having to be the person that people rely on to run 4-5 games at a time often leaves me burnt out & tired towards the night.
I work 10 hour days, 7 days a week (starting to take days off on Sundays but I just hibernate the entire day), don't leave the house unless it's something very important, and am constantly setting up things like roadmaps, ensuring my producers and managers are on the right track, assessing technical debt weekly for sprints, helping out programmers with questions (I was a programmer before I had this opportunity), listening to complaints, dealing with my finance team, HR, all that boring stuff.
It's pretty clear why I have to stay glued behind a computer screen and can't take my eyes off of it for longer than 30 minutes without being swamped with questions to answer. And, as you may have expected, it's pretty clear that if someone were to engage in a relationship with me, they'd probably head to sleep waiting on me to come out of work. Which is exactly what's happening.
I've tried explaining to my girlfriend countless times that I'm doing everything I can to give her my attention, listen to her daily rants, and play some games with her whenever things calm down more at my studio. However, she's been growing more & more needy as time goes on and recently began lashing out her anger on me. Obviously, arguing and almost yelling won't resolve things, so I try to calm her down by watching a movie with her later during the night, or spending some time with her after work.
Unsurprisingly, forcing myself to stay awake during late night hours is starting to take a toll on me. A few days ago, she's uttered words that I can't keep my mind off of: "All you do is sit on your chair all day with the AC on and tell people what to do. You just don't care enough to give me attention, might as well break up with me." -- obviously not 1:1 of what she said, but it was something along the lines of that.
Tried sitting down with her. Tried talking it out. Tried showing her exactly what I do, the scale of my operations; everything. This wasn't a problem initially in our relationship since I had just began starting out and getting some recognition in the industry, way before expanding, and never did I ever think the sheer scale of this studio would get this big.
I tried listening to my mother's advice, went to a psychologist, went to therapy. They all told me to take a step back and take time off, but if I take a step back, nobody's there to look over things for me.
tl;dr i work too much but dont really have an option not to and my girlfriend thinks working at home 10 hours a day 7 days a week is easy just because its at home

2024.05.20 06:58 mredofcourse Aix-en-Provence 70.3 Report: The people make the race

I just finished the Aix-en-Provence 70.3 yesterday. It was absolutely amazing. I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area, and had traveled to the region before, but wow, it's more beautiful on a bike.
I was hoping to make the cut off time of 8.5 hours. I really wasn’t sure I could do it and had prepared myself to just enjoy the experience.
I was a late entry (had to buy the Nirvana experience to enter) because I tagged it on to a last minute trip to Europe for work. I was scheduling my training to get me to 70.3 level in September for Santa Cruz.
I was under trained and dealing with poor nutrition, sleep, and everything that goes with international traveling a week before the race. I also had a rented bike that I didn't have a chance to ride it at all before the race.
My time was less than 7.5 and I set some personal bests pretty much all around.
What really helped were the people. Everyone came out to cheer us on in Aix-en-Provence as well as all the towns along the way.
They would all shout “Allez” and ring cow bells. When I got closer, they’d shout “Allez ”.
In Aix-en-Provence during the run, you take 3 laps around the town. People would actually remember me after the first lap and tell me “1 more” or “last one”. In some alleys they’d cheer along on the sides with a low cheer, but then as you approached they’d do the wave.
It was a lot hotter than I expected. It reached over 93F when I was on the bike. As a result of the heat, I got pretty bad leg cramps, so during the run I had to walk parts of it. People would shout “allez” as I walked by and I would say “merci” and the start running again… they’d go nuts over this shouting “bravo!”
It was all so emotionally overwhelming. They could see how touched I was and on subsequent laps that just made them cheer more.
I've done other events (marathons and Escape from Alcatraz), and usually get emotional with the crowd reaction, but this was off the charts.
The swim was nice. The water was 67F which meant wetsuit mandatory, but not cold at all. It had the usual problem of people queuing up too early for their ability and me having to navigate around other swimmers, but that's to be expected.
Also of note on the swim is that while the water is generally calm and clean, there are event boats out there for rescue (in addition to kayaks). The boats can kick up a wake, so there can be unexpected waves. The clean water also gets muddy towards the finish, which may make having rinse water in T1 worthwhile.
