2021.06.02 02:51 1ExtraLife I am not sure if I have diverticulitis, but I wanted to share my experience

Hello everyone,
So, I have been lurking around this forum for about 1 month. I feel a bit out of place posting because my situation is not comparable to some of the experiences others have gone through. Luckily, my symptoms are mild, and if I do have it, I might have caught it early. I feel I have diverticulosis or diverticulitis. I have this dull ache in my left side near, that usually comes and goes, but this past week it has been lingering.
About 1 month ago, I had a myriad of symptoms, dull ache in my side, dull ache radiating to my groin, a general sick feeling, and slight discharge of my penis. A urinalysis confirmed a white blood cell count of 10. I was given Zithromax for 14 days and then took another urine test (WBC above 50), I was then given Flagyl, Doxycycline, and an injection. Which I am on my last day to finish. I also did an abdominal ultrasound, which came back normal. Since taking the antibiotics, my discharge and general sick feeling have gone away but the dull ache and stomach cramp have come back toward the end of my antibiotics treatments. Feels like the antibiotics are not working.
I went to my doctor yesterday and discussed diverticulitis, and he told me I am not presenting the symptoms of that outside the dull ache. He wants me to finish the last 2 days of my treatment then do another urinalysis to see my WBC. Because, I have already suspected diverticulitis, I have been on a liquid diet. I might be consuming more fiber than I should, I have been making smoothies. However, nothing I am eating seems to affect the dull ache, the cramp comes and goes, and it usually when I eat a big meal or when I eat too little. The ache is just annoying, which raises my anxiety as I fear that my condition will worsen toward what others have described here.
Since I was being treated for the STD trichomoniasis, I am taking the antibiotic Flagyl which is prescribed for diverticulitis as well. However, the dull ache remains and there has been no change in its severity, but it has been more constant. Seem to trigger more at night and in the morning. It is so hard to evaluate my symptoms, as I am taking so many antibiotics, and then eating less and sometimes only liquids, it hards to distinguish what's what. I have been doing some walking, and it makes me feel better, but then I add more symptoms like muscle aches and tiredness. I am not consuming enough calories to walk consistently.
I woke up today and the dull ache is still there, I went poo and it still feels the same. It does not even feel like a pain, I feel like something is there nagging me. I sleep on a memory foam mattress and sometimes I wonder if this is just physical, like bad posture, muscle strain, or nerve damage. Sometimes I feel the ache in my hip bone and top of my butt. I guess I need some peace of mind from those who have more experience with this situation. I am sorry, I do not have a confirmed diagnosis of it, but I rather act as if I do have it until I know otherwise since this seems to be the only thing that matches my symptoms.
I guess I would like more information on this dull ache. For those that have it, does the ache usually respond to food, passing gas, or pooping? Does stepping up with your left leg feel weaker? Do, you have a preferred sleeping position? I hear some describe their pain as a heavy feeling, which I do not have. I have heard others state their left side is tender to the touch, but mine is not. I seem to feel better standing up and laying down. Sitting seems to make things flare-up. I cannot stand for a long period of dire due to tiredness for low calories, and nausea\dizziness. Should, I relax a little bit since it is just a dull ache (YES)?
I have no fever, severe pain, no pain when digesting food, no pain when pooping, poop is normal (no blood or pus), no vomiting, and no nausea (except a few minutes after taking antibiotics, but goes away shortly after). Just this lingering dull ache. For reference, I am obese I wait close to 450 pounds 3 years ago. However, due to a hypertension diagnosis, I changed my lifestyle and lost 200 lbs. I cut processed food, fast food, dairy, red meat, pork, refined sugars, etc. I was not vegan but my diet consisted of whole foods (mostly), as I did cheat sometimes, The only meat I eat is chicken and I ate eggs. I drink mostly water, fruit smoothies (no dairy), herbal teas (ginger, turmeric, chamomile). So, all of this is a bit shocking to me, but it's possible my past caught up to me.
Anyway, I know the doctor is taking the wait-and-see approach but it is so scary. I have also read others had pain for weeks, even months. I am sorry if I am over-reacting after a few weeks, and I do have high anxiety, so that makes everything worse, like insomnia and my BP. Just writing this post was therapeutic, I thank everyone here for sharing their stories. When I first heard about diverticulitis, I feared the worse but reading here and learning from everyone has helped immensely. I do understand now that this disease can be managed, additionally, my normal diet is already mostly fiber, thus adapting to it will not be as hard. I also understand the difference between diverticulosis or diverticulitis. Additionally, I understand the difference between acute "uncomplicated" diverticulitis. This knowledge is a godsend for my anxiety, thx everyone.
Again, I know my situation was minor in comparison to others. We do not hear about many stories of diverticulosis or diverticulitis being caught early. And once you do a Google search you see a lot of worse case scenarios, and the distinction of diverticulosis or diverticulitis is not clear. For those that have similar situations as me (I have seen a couple here) I hope this helps. If I get a diagnosis, I will get everyone updated. If you made it this, thank you for listening to my frantic ranting.
