Chapter 425

Thud!

White Flames, having lost its mark, skittered across the ground.

"Ah."

With a snap of his fingers, the Arch Lich ensnared me, who stood frozen like a statue. Black hands, summoned from the void, clamped tightly around my body.

He wielded his magic effortlessly, foregoing the incantations usually required for spellcasting.

Step by step.

With each stride, the Arch Lich's magic swirled through him like a dense fog.

His left arm, obliterated earlier by my One Strike, began to regenerate. The shattered bones, now shaded darker, knitted together with eerie robustness.

As the completion of the Gate approached, his power swelled correspondingly.

- I wondered why I could smell death on you. That's quite a spectacular reason, isn't it? The friendship between a human and a monster is... quite touching.

Creak.

The sound of misaligned bones grated through my frame, yet my gaze drifted over the Arch Lich's shoulder.

Focused on a sword embedded in the earth, its hilt clutched by a hand that refused to relinquish its grip.

'Skeleton Warlord.'

By divine decree, humans and monsters were eternal adversaries.

Initially, it had been the same between us.

But now... I realized. At some juncture, the Skeleton Warlord had transcended mere monstrosity in my eyes.

'If I had still thought of him as just a monster, I would have annihilated him with my own hands.'

Destroying the Skeleton Warlord could have provided a crucial boost through leveling up.

Yet I faltered, and ultimately, I abstained.

Not merely because he had spared my life, but because he had won a place as a friend in my heart.

A hollow laugh burst from my lips.

‘Damn it. I should have never gotten attached.’

At that, the Arch Lich’s eyes narrowed slightly.

- You're laughing? In this situation?

“My mother used to say that laughter brings fortune.”

- You must be out of your mind.

“Why the fuss if I want to laugh? Are you my date or something?”

I spat at the Arch Lich’s face. A thick, ambiguous mixture of blood and phlegm trickled down his brow.

At that moment, a fierce red glow blazed from where his eyes ought to be.

- I've heard your response well.

“Fuck you.”

If I claimed to have no regrets about my life up to this point, I would be lying. Regrets, however, always arrive too late, and I've fought hard enough until now.

When I finally let go, everything seemed like a fleeting dream. My face, relaxed in a smile, was mirrored in the Arch Lich's sinister red gaze.

- I've said this before. Your body will be torn to shreds, and your soul will wander the River of Death forever.

I nodded, accepting this grim fate easily.

“That sounds about right. Just like that demon bastard you serve.”

- ...!

“When I meet him, I’ll send your regards. Give me his address.”

- ...Let’s see how long you can keep spouting such nonsense.

With a mere gesture from the Arch Lich, the massive magical hands constricting me tightened their grip and began to tear at my limbs with incredible force.

Slowly, bit by bit.

Creak, crunch.

A small cracking sound from within awoke the sense of pain I had momentarily escaped.

Though I believed I had no energy left for screams, an involuntary howl tore through my lips.

“Argh, aaaaargh!”

- That's it. Much better.

Blinded by agony, I braced for death as I unleashed the screams I had suppressed.

But just as the pain began to ebb away, instead of death, a System notification chimed.

Ding.

- [Top-grade Potion] used!

- The amount of potion used is too small. The injury has been slightly healed!

- Your injuries are too severe. A more potent and higher-quality healing is necessary!

…What?

As a refreshing sensation mingled with renewed pain, my eyes met the Arch Lich's, which gleamed mockingly.

In his hand, he held a glass bottle.

‘I see.’

It was one of the potions from Lee Jeong-Ryong’s subspace pocket, previously pilfered by the Arch Lich.

And now, he wielded the healing potion as an instrument of torment.

The potion delivered just enough healing to forestall death, yet it intensified my agony to new excruciating heights.

- Foolish human. Did you really think I would grant you an easy and comfortable death?

“……!”

- Continue to wail. Cry like a coward, thrash in pain, and only after you realize your foolishness will you be able to head towards the River of Death.

The Arch Lich swirled the glass bottle, his tone laced with derision.

The potion, diminished by barely a tenth, was a clear measure of the enduring pain yet to come.

That torment seemed destined to stretch into infinity.

Amidst the minimal relief and overwhelming pain, I gasped for air and managed a forced smile.

"If I chant 'Long live the Demon King' three times, will you end it quickly?"

- Well, if you put your heart and soul into it, I might consider.

“I won’t, you son of a bitch.”

- That's fine. We have plenty of time anyway. It wouldn’t hurt to think it over slowly…

Crack!

The Arch Lich’s glowing eyes flickered wildly, mirroring my own shock.

It was something neither he nor I had expected.

- What is this...

His voice trailed off in suspicion as he glanced down at his chest.

It was light. A brilliant, overwhelming radiance — bright enough to rival the sun - erupted from his chest.

'No, it’s not just light.'

I stared at it with a vacant gaze. It was a sword, emitting a brilliance greater than anything I had ever before.

I knew the name of that all-too-familiar sword.

‘Hero’s Soul.’

Beyond the skeletal chest of the Arch Lich, I could see the steadfast hand that clutched the sword’s hilt.

“……!”

Time seemed to halt.

In this nearly frozen world, I watched as hundreds, then thousands, of bone fragments coalesced.

They were mere remnants of a skeleton, yet they drew together with magnetic force, beginning to reconstruct.

Click, clack!

The symphony of bones assembling.

First, the limbs took shape, followed swiftly by the torso.

The bones, once black and lustrous, were bathed in the radiance of the [Hero's Soul]. They soon took on a subtle gold hue, lengthening and hardening in the process.

'Ah.'

It was a miraculous transformation.

The myriad bone fragments merged, reconstructing a body in a manner that seemed to reverse the flow of time. The light emanating from the sword expelled the darkness lodged within the joints, heralding the genesis of a new entity.

And then, as the skull clicked into place atop the reformed body—

Flash!

Golden light exploded from the vacant eye sockets, emitting an aura both deeply familiar and intriguingly foreign.

In the next moment, the suspended time resumed its course.

- You asked me why?

“……!”

My body jolted as if struck by lightning, recalling a memory from barely an hour earlier.

'But why? ...Why?'

That had been my question. Why did you shield me, knowing it spelled your destruction?

At the time, his response was uncertain, hinting that perhaps the sword had cast a spell over him.

Now, the answer I had not heard before resonated clearly.

- You're a cunning, wicked human...but also a pretty good guy.

A pretty good guy.

A phrase I had once said to someone else.

I stared at him, astonished. His enlarged, solid form radiated a soft golden glow. The silver pattern etched on the forehead of his skull resembled a crown.

No, it was clearly a crown.

[Lv.160 Skeleton King]

As the System window hovered above his head, laughter bubbled up from me uncontrollably.

"My Golgol has grown a lot."

- I wondered why I've been feeling itchy all this time. [Note: just a quick reminder: the Skeleton Warlord has previously complained, during one of the MC's abusive treatments, that his bones have been itchy and sensitive lately. For more details, look at novel chapter 409.]

The once small, dark caterpillar had finally emerged from its cocoon, wings unfurled.

The luminance of the Skeleton Warlord — now the Skeleton King — radiated outward like a crescent moon. Both of us shared a moment of laughter.

Yet, there was one who could not share in our mirth.

- Argh! Aaaaargh!

The Arch Lich.

This unparalleled Named Monster, commander of legions of the undead and bearer of undying, formidable magical powers, now contorted in torment.

A sword impaled through the heart of his chest.

The golden radiance from the [Hero's Soul] began to devour the magic, dissolving his form.

Perhaps even his soul.

- Human.

Prompted by the Skeleton King’s gentle summons, I knew it was time.

'Let's end this.'

Ding.

- [Hero's Soul] bestows upon you the light of healing!

- All status abnormalities have been removed!

- All injuries and stats have been restored!

- The soul of the departed smiles upon you.

Whoosh!

A surge of light from the [Hero's Soul] enveloped me, its warmth mending my fractured bones and knitting my flesh back together.

My organs, once damaged, and blood vessels, previously torn, now regenerated, the heat within them simmering like molten lava.

'I can do this.'

This newfound conviction was as solid as steel, surprising even to myself, yet unmistakably true.

With such power at my command, there was nothing beyond my reach.

'My turn.'

Ssssssht! Thump!

I picked up White Flames, which lay discarded nearby.

Pop!

Leaping into the air, I extended my foot.

My trajectory aimed me straight at the Arch Lich, who, amidst his powerful sorcery, writhed in agony.

- What in the world! What magic have you used!

The Arch Lich bellowed in fury.

His eyes, pulsating red, dilated with each pulse of agony.

His pain was palpable.

- Damn you, damn human! Aaaaargh!

Ignoring his curses, I raised White Flames with deliberate calm.

I positioned the mystical spear, its blade shimmering, to strike not just the flailing Arch Lich but also the ominous Gate looming behind him.

Whoosh.

From the core of my lower dantian, the fire dragon unfurled its wings, ascending as a fiery orb that exploded outward in all directions. The flames, kindled at my fingertips, climbed up the shaft of White Flames, cloaking it in layers of azure fire.

- You bastard! How dare you!

The Arch Lich flailed his limbs in a frenzy as his rage boiled over. Yet, the magic he cast fizzled out before it could reach me, snuffed by the searing barrier that cocooned me.

Despite his faltering strength, the darkness around the Gate churned with renewed vigor.

Then, it struck me.

'Now!'

As I twisted my body, the force of rotation surged from my legs through my waist, amplifying as it reached my shoulders and wrists. This caused White Flames to quiver with intense energy.

An extraordinary power, harnessed from the depths of my being, ignited a flame more colossal than any before.

This was the moment.

Swoosh!

In an instant, the distance between me and the Arch Lich collapsed, and time seemed to stretch thin.

Before his lips could complete his incantation, I struck with a force fueled by every ounce of my resolve and strength.

- Blin...!

One Strike.

There would be no second chances. The azure dragon, unleashed from the blade, enveloped both the Arch Lich and the ominous Gate.

Kaboom!

Hey guys, I tried Gamma with frame generation and the performance is really nice but the latency with borderless mode is just horrific (Elden ring, for example, does not seem to have any considerable latency in contrast). Wondered if there is a possible fix to reduce latency somehow. I tried all the possible setting withing LS app and the best (but still not suitable for an FPS game) were: - Performance mode with LSFG 2.0 - Allow tearing - ON - Vsync at 60 fps (max refresh rate) - Capture API - WGC

2024.06.01 14:26 Joraiem Downloads instantly failing.

This issue just started this morning - any time I try to download anything from any website, even Firefox's own extensions page, it just says the download failed. My internet connection is fine, the drive I'm downloading to has ~90 GB of space, I checked the downloads path, tried changing it to a different location, I've rebooted, refreshed Firefox, tried a new profile, run a MalwareBytes scan, closed that to see if that's interfering somehow, made sure OneDrive is closed... nothing works. I can download from Edge, but not Firefox.
I've done some basic google troubleshooting, found the "rename xulstore.json" advice and that did nothing, and a lot of people with similar issues seemed to be running Linux so the fixes they tried don't really apply to me on Windows. Or there was a bug that behaved exactly the same 5 years ago, but that seems to have been fixed already.
Any idea what the issue might be? Or what else I could try to fix it?
EDIT: More digging around, I found this error in the about:support page - "NotAllowedError: Could not create unique file in `C:\Users[my name redacted]\AppData\Local\Temp' (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED"
So it seems like the issue is that it can't write to my Temp folder, but I'm not sure how to fix that.

2024.06.01 14:23 the_korben Please help me understand composition, V-sync and tearing with Nvidia

Hi, I've been gaming on Linux with my RTX 4070 Ti for about half a year and I have been very happy with the results and about my transition from Windows. However, there is one issue that keeps popping up and I don't seem to be able to either fix or even understand the origins of this issue: occasional tearing. It's a problem that has been discussed a lot on the internet. But it's been discussed for so long over the last 5-15 years that you can find so many different proposed "solutions" and contradictory statements and unrelated sub-discussions that it gets even harder to understand what is even the cause of the problem.
And this is basically my intent here: I would like to understand the technical cause of the problem in the Linux gaming-component stack and am therefore looking for answers from people who understand some of the technical background. I would like to ask you not to divert the discussion by statements like "use Wayland" or "use AMD" or "use another distro" or something like that, because it doesn't really help in understanding the root of the problem and the nature of the proposed solutions. Thank you! In order to facilitate the discussion, I will try to be as detailed as possible in my descriptions, so sorry if this post is too long for your taste. :)

The problem
First off, a short description of the problem. I have a dual-monitor setup with a primary monitor running at 120 Hz and the secondary running at 60 Hz. I'm using GNOME with X11 via a somewhat modified version of Ubuntu 22.04. VRR is disabled. (I am currently using the 550.67 driver but 535 looks the same.)
I play many games on this machine and most of them run perfectly fine. For instance, I just played MotoGP 24, a very recent game running on the Unreal engine, and I can run it at 120 fps without any problems whatsoever. The framerate is perfectly smooth and there is no tearing. Then there are other games - the latest example I tried is Shadow of Mordor - where I can also run the game very well at 120 fps (after unlocking the framerate in the config files) but at sudden random times, bad tearing pops up, stays for about 20 seconds and then vanishes again. This is obviously very distracting.
A somewhat related problem happens with games that are internally capped to 60 fps. Most of these run perfectly fine as they should since I am running at 120 Hz. However, some of them sometimes also get these random tearing episodes or produce frame-time inconsistencies which then also leads to tearing or small stutters, which should not be the case because I have more than enough headroom to run these games at 60 fps.

The interpretation
So, given my ~30 years of PC gaming experience, this of course sounds like a synchronization problem. Under Windows - before the advent of VRR - the solution was simply to "enable V-sync in the Nvidia Control Panel". With that setting you wouldn't get any tearing anywhere because apparently the Nvidia driver could easily control the flow of frames from the frame buffers to the display. It seems that on my Linux machine, this is not the case. There is some cross-talk going on between various components or processes and I end up with parts of frames that should not be on the screen.
Now this of course immediately brings the "explicit sync" question to my mind, but my impression was that this was a Wayland topic and that X11 handles things different anyway. So maybe X11 is the ultimate root of the problem, but I don't have the technical expertise on this topic to come to that conclusion and I would still know the root cause of the effect.

The stack
In order to try and identify what is involved in this process, I am now listing everything that is involved with creating a frame and then displaying it. First off, we have the game engine. It uses APIs to create calls to draw the images and also handles some of the synchronization settings on its own with in-game V-sync settings or framecaps. Then comes DXVK or VKD3D or WineD3D and perhaps some other components of Wine/Proton that translate these draw calls to Vulkan or OpenGL. The Vulkan calls are then interpreted by the Nvidia driver which then sends the results to X11. Somewhere in between we may have the Nvidia "Composition Pipeline" that can be enabled in the display settings of the nvidia-settings application. X11, running under GNOME, then gets the frames and talks to the OS to send the images to the display. I hope this is at least a reasonably close description of what is going on.
Somewhere in the middle of that chain - at least on my machine - sits MangoHud and potentially caps frames or forces V-sync once again. And then there is also gamemode which also changes some settings for the system. We could also use Gamescope to sit in between the game and X11/Wayland - but I rarely use it and haven't found that it improves things with tearing-prone games. And then there is the SteamOverlay sitting somewhere on top as well.

The fixes
So somewhere in that setup above is where tearing is happening. To fix it, the internet gives us tons of different advice. We can "Force Composition Pipeline" or "Force Full Composition Pipeline" in the nvidia-settings. We can set "Sync to V-blank" in the OpenGL settings of the Nvidia driver. We can even enable TripleBuffering in the driver settings in the xorg config or do some even more arcane things like setting "UseNvKmsCompositionPipeline" to "false (which helps a ton with stuttering in my case) and set environment variables like __GL_SYNC_DISPLAY_DEVICE.
Then we can also enable V-sync at the DXVK or VKD3D level by modifying their configs or by using the corresponding MangoHud settings. We can also disable the system-wide compositor. We can do so many things ... and some of those things indeed make it better or worse, but I haven't found settings that can get rid of even just occasional tearing once and for all.

The confusion
This is where I am getting confused. How is it that there is no setting that simply makes it so the GPU handles V-sync? And why is it that all these fixes proposed above often contradict each other? Some people advocate for "Force Composition Pipeline", some people say the exact opposite. Some people say TripleBuffering is the solution, some people say it doesn't work. And none of it really helped.
I am also confused by which settings would override one another. For instance: would "Sync on V-blank" only affect OpenGL applications but not DXVK? Does forcing V-sync in DXVK just override the setting for V-sync in the Nvidia driver or is it something on top that handles synchronisation, and how would that interact with the "Composition Pipeline" that the Nvidia driver is using? Do V-sync settings in-game cause problems with the "Composition Pipeline" or the DXVK V-sync setting or TripleBuffering? And for that matter: what even is the "Composition Pipeline" of the Nvidia driver and how would it get rid of the tearing if the driver is then forwarding the image to X11 anyway and X11 handles the synchronization with the display?
So I guess my ultimate question is this: where exactly does the tearing come from and why would the different solutions above prevent that from happening? Ultimately, tearing is a simple thing. GPU frames are not synchronized with the display refresh rate. But why can't the Nvidia driver simply prepare a consistent image for X11 to fetch every time it asks - at least not for all games at all times? Or to put it differently, why do some settings that are supposed to facilitate this fail in some games some of the time?

The plea
As you can see, I am very confused. I tried so many different combinations of everything mentioned above and none of it has gotten rid of tearing completely. But only in some of the games. Others run perfectly fine. And as someone with a scientific/technical approach to most things, this is making me crazy. If there currently is no way of getting rid of tearing ... fine. But I would simply like to know why it works most of the time but not all of the time or where I am misunderstanding things.
So, if you understand how the graphics pipeline works on our dear Linux with X11 and Nvidia and you can explain where the tearing comes from (or how one even may get rid of it) I would be so greatful because then I could finally enjoy Shadow of Mordor without trying to get research funding from the EU or the National Science Foundation. :)

2024.06.01 12:14 -doonus Elden Ring 60 vs 144hz

Quick question:
I’ve been playing through Elden Ring on the GO. The open world slows performance to maybe 40 fps at the minimum, at 1000p medium settings @ 60hz. When the device is set to 144hz at the exact same res and in game settings, the frame rate increases to a near locked 60 with far less dips and artifact-ing/tearing. This is on the ‘performance’ preset, a 25w TDP runs smoother than ‘performance’, it just keeps the fan quieter.
Why is this happening? Isn’t the game capped at 60 anyways? Regardless if that was changed in an update for the game, I don’t get why this is happening. Now I’m wondering if there is a display driver problem when running at lower than the max refresh rate. Any ideas? (Still on the last go drivers, did not and am not updating to this week’s release until the issues quiet down)

The Real Avid The Pistol Tool is an incredibly versatile tool that has made my life as a shooter so much easier. From mounting accessories to adjusting laser sights and changing side grips, this little powerhouse has everything I need to keep my handgun in tip-top shape, whether I'm at the range or working on it at home.
One of the things that stood out to me is its compact size and easy one-hand access. Every tool is carefully calibrated to popular pistol platforms, making it incredibly easy and user-friendly. I particularly love how each tool locks open for maximum safety and precision.
However, there are a couple of downsides. The screw bits could be slightly larger to accommodate different screw sizes, and I wish the hex head wrenches were slightly larger for greater versatility.
Despite these minor issues, this tool has been a game-changer for me. Every handgunner should have The Pistol Tool in their range bag or workbench - it's an absolute lifesaver!

🔗Manticore Scorpion EVO Folding Stock for Increased Compatibility and Adjustability

Using the Manticore Slider Stock for my CZ Scorpion Evo felt like a breath of fresh air. The slim design, inspired by the MP5A3, allowed for smooth transitions between extended and collapsed positions. I loved that it added barely any bulk to the gun, making it a great option for those who want a sleeker look. However, I found the stock's locking mechanism a bit finicky at times, which could be frustrating in high-pressure situations.
One of the standout features was the 100% Made in the USA craftsmanship. The build quality was top-notch, featuring a sturdy 6061 aluminum anodized black construction. Another impressive detail was the addition of QD points on both the mounting block and the buttplate, providing easy connection options for sling loops. The grooved buttplate offered a secure grip on my shoulder, and I appreciated the option to mount an optional rubber buttpad.
Overall, the Manticore Slider Stock for CZ Scorpion Evo was a reliable and stylish choice for my airsoft gun. While there were some minor drawbacks, the pros outweighed the cons in my experience.

I recently purchased the Ed Brown Slide Recoil Buffers 6-pack for my 1911, and I must say, the quality surpassed my expectations. These precision-molded polyurethane buffers fit perfectly on the recoil guide, preventing any unwanted metal-to-metal contact during firing. This not only makes the gun smoother to operate but also saves my frame from potential damage, making it a great investment.
Despite the high cost, the convenience and durability of these buffers make them worth the splurge. However, as with any product, it's essential not to expect miracles, and the true effectiveness will be discovered over time, as with any product of this nature.

EGW Heavy Duty Slide Stop, a reliable addition to the Heavy Duty line of 1911 parts, has caught my attention for its stainless steel finish and durability. Machined from 4140 Steel, this slide stop not only provides a sleek and sturdy look but also handles the demands of daily use.
One aspect that stood out is the enhanced gripping capabilities due to the serrations on the pad. It provides a firm and secure grip, which I appreciated during practice sessions as it prevents the slide stop from slipping. However, one downside I noticed was the pin size, which felt a bit small and might need attention when installing or removing the slide stop.
In conclusion, the EGW Heavy Duty Slide Stop offers an attractive and highly functional alternative for those who value quality and durability. But, keep in mind the slightly smaller pin size while considering the best fit for your 1911.

When it comes to DIY projects that require precision, having the right tools and materials is crucial. Recently, I tried out the VEVOR Linear Guide Rail Kit for my own CNC router project, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations!
One of the first things I noticed about this guide rail set was its high-quality materials. The carbon steel main axle, GCr15 bearing steel linear rail block, and aluminum alloy casing all contribute to the rigidity and durability of the product. The surface chrome plating treatment is not only aesthetically pleasing but also provides a corrosion-resistant barrier, ensuring the longevity of the components.
Another standout feature of this kit is how easy it is to assemble. With pre-drilled holes on the support rail mounts, I was able to secure the rail without any fuss. The complete sliding unit moves smoothly without deflection or excessive noise, making my CNC router operation more efficient and enjoyable.
However, I did encounter a minor issue with the friction of the rubber wipers on the carriage. While this may be a necessary compromise to protect the ball bearings, it did require a bit more force to move the entire assembly. But overall, I am satisfied with the performance of the VEVOR Linear Guide Rail Kit, and I highly recommend it to others looking for an affordable and high-quality solution for their DIY projects.

I had the opportunity to try out the LBE Slide for 17 Black, and my experience was quite impressive. As someone with a love for firearms, it was refreshing to see a product that prioritized both quality and reliability.
The durability of the slide was particularly noticeable in my daily routine, providing me with peace of mind that it would withstand the test of time. The build quality of the LBE Slide was exceptional, boasting precision manufacturing and high-quality components that seemed to effortlessly merge together.
However, there was one minor issue I encountered: the slide was designed for a specific type of firearm, limiting its universality. Despite this, it remained a reliable option for those looking to maintain or upgrade their 17 Black. Overall, the LBE Slide for 17 Black is a remarkable addition to any firearms enthusiast's arsenal, delivering on durability, reliability, and build quality while offering years of unwavering service.

I recently had the chance to put the VEVOR 2-pack HGR20 Linear Slide Rail to the test in my DIY CNC project, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The high-quality steel material made these linear guides look and feel durable, with the surface chrome plating adding a touch of beauty and anti-rust protection. What really stood out, though, was how effortless they were to install, especially with the steel support rail and pre-drilled holes for ease of mounting.
Of course, no product is perfect. I did encounter a slight issue with the low friction coefficient that made the movement a bit smoother than I would have preferred. However, this was a minor concern compared to the versatility of the CNC linear rail. I found it widely used in all sorts of precision machines that require high precision linear movement.
In conclusion, the VEVOR 2-pack HGR20 Linear Slide Rail kit is a reliable and convenient solution for anyone looking to upgrade their CNC project. Despite the minor friction issue, the durability, ease of installation, and versatility of the product make it a worthwhile investment.

The Canik TCS Full Size Magwell Black is an intriguing addition to the line of high-quality firearms designed by Canik, a world-renowned brand for their intelligent engineering. Having the opportunity to use it in my daily life, I must say it offers a unique blend of style and functionality.
The most striking feature I noticed is its sleek and streamlined black magwell design, which not only adds an aesthetic touch but also improves grip accuracy. The black finish is robust and seems to withstand outdoor elements without much wear, which is a plus for those who want their firearms to last longer.
However, one element that I found to be less than ideal is the need for modification before it can be used with aftermarket magazine base plate extensions. The inner lips need to be carefully filed or sanded down for a proper fit. This could be a potential drawback for some users who might find it frustrating or time-consuming.
Overall, the Canik TCS Full Size Magwell Black offers a captivating blend of style and precision, with its distinctive black design and robust finish. However, the modification requirement might pose a challenge for those seeking a hassle-free experience. Despite this minor drawback, the product still manages to impress with its unique features and performance.

I appreciate its robust construction; it's built to last, and it does so without any issues.

When I first heard about the Wilson 25co Officer Full Length Guide Rod for my 1911 pistol, I was intrigued by the idea of improving my pistol's performance. I've used it for quite some time now, and let me tell you, it's made a significant difference.
One of the standout features of this guide rod is its sturdy steel construction, giving my pistol a robust and reliable feel. The silver finish also adds a touch of elegance to the overall aesthetic. However, it did require some minor modifications to the slide, which was a bit of an inconvenience.
The performance enhancements were evident almost immediately after installation. The reversible plug and single spring were simple yet effective additions to the upgrade.

Made from 4140 steel and featuring a blued carbon steel finish, it has a sleek look that really sets it apart from other slide stops on the market.

The fit was perfect, and the inclusion of the OSP plate for optic compatibility was a welcomed addition. The anodized finish, available in black, gave it a sleek and durable look.

2024.06.01 11:37 MrPb133 Screen tearing no matter what i do, specifically on this game.

They're always at the 1/4 mark on either the top or bottom so maybe a artefact or something? Idk. Frame rate is consistent and Vsync doesn't do anything. No matter what my fps cap is or refresh rate in game, 30fps to unlimited, the tears look exactly the same and nothings stopping them.

2024.06.01 08:45 Edwardthecrazyman Hiraeth or Where the Children Play: Execution Day [18]

First/Previous
“How’d you think that was going to go?” asked a voice from the other side of the door.
I lay on the bunk and stared at the ceiling; my head throbbed. The place where I’d been grazed stung whenever I touched my fingers to it. A bullet had—by whoever’s grace—scraped my scalp and traced a line from the far corner of my right eyebrow. It'd only been three days and it still caused pain. No doctors came and I was certain there would be infection—if not plain infection, then it could always be the worser: skitterbugs. I ached still. I had never fully recovered, not like how I should have.
The day of anger, as I’d begun to think of it in my mind, had caused no great ruckus beyond a few dead men. Two were Bosses, but who knew if they’d announce that as casually as they’d surely announce my execution. Perhaps they’d string me up alongside thieves. A good thief and a bad. What a riot; I deserved no thieves, of course.
What was I? Some great hero? Some idiot was more likely. I wanted misery to befall those that perpetrated it themselves and there I was, more miserable. Perhaps the wrath in my heart came from some mutation; the demon Mephisto resurrected me (so said the demon) and I’d begun to accept it. It was the reason for my poor state, surely, and the more I thought on it, the more I believed it was true; it felt true right down to my bones. The truth hurt or it was age and I rose from the cot I lay on; I’d been detained in a room beside the one I’d visited Andrew many months prior. They’d starved me, rattled the door to try and frighten me, and they’d wasted water on my head to keep me from good sleep.
I did not respond to the voice from the other side of the door and the object rattled in its frame and the voice came again, this time angrier, “Really? How did you think that was going to go? Crazy bastard! Thought you’d put the hurt on the Bosses? Thought you’d kill us at our worst? First, it’s that explosion. You have something to do with that? No! First, it was Harold’s daughter running off!” The voice on the other side of the door grew with mirth as it did with anger. “I’d seen you around town a bit. Thought the Bosses always liked you. Huh. Boss Harold mentioned you at his parties and said how you were a smart fella’, a good fella’, and there you killed him. Stone cold.” The man which spoke was a jailor that tortured me in those dreamlike days I spent locked in their prison, and he seemed personally affronted. “So first it’s the explosions; steam or dust rose out of cracks in the ground you know—some thought hell was rising up, but the Bosses put those thoughts to bed. God, what’s it with the likes of you? The explosions and now I’ve lost an eye and its because of the skitterbugs. You probably brought that on!” The voice muttered and then the door shook in its frame again, seemingly from a hard kick. I wished I could see the face of the man throwing his tantrum. “Can’t wait to see you hang.”
“So, I’ll hang?” I asked the door. There was a long silence, and I was uncertain if I’d pitched my voice enough for the man on the other side to hear me. I opened my mouth to ask, “So-
“You’ll hang.” The man on other side seemed to knock his knuckles against the surface of the door. “Or you’ll die here.”
“What’s Maron said?”
“Don’t you worry about him.”
“What’s he said?”
“Said you’d probably appreciate the punishment that we’d put on you. Said you’re a sick man. Said you like speaking with devils and people like you only find pleasure in such things.”
“So, I won’t hang?”
“Oh, you’ll hang, sir. You’ll hang if I need to do it myself with no one else. If not that, I’ll be sure to put you under one way or another. Accidents happen.” He chuckled. “Maybe you’d enjoy it, but it doesn’t matter. Whatever enjoyment you find in your tortures won’t compare to what ideas I have.”
A long silence followed, and I watched dust motes dance in the air; the place was stagnant and even a breath caused a shift in their glide. I closed my eyes and tried to remember a better time. I thought of Suzanne. I thought of Gemma. What a time to be alive. I thought of the movies, the books, the musical cartridges that sung of yesteryears. How unlucky I’d been, of course. Something had changed in me though and it was totally refreshing. Perhaps it was in realizing the evils of my brothers was that of a man and not some otherworldly force, or perhaps it was a push that came from years of terrible inconsistencies. All that living in the past and so it was. It didn’t matter—the past. I’d been so busy with it that I’d been in a constant state of unliving. I’d known that always, of course—something new had come.
“You dozing off in there?” asked the jailor.
“Nah.”
“Good. Stay awake or I’ll be forced to stay you awake.”
I’d been reborn with a rage, justified or otherwise, and it was felt all over. It was a wild compulsion. All that time and it had been me that was brought back.
The wound on my head throbbed and I prodded it with a finger and brought the finger away and examined the digit; it was dried well enough, and I did not smell infection nor were there any of the accompanying symptoms of a fever or hallucination. I was me, through and through. For now.
The door banged. I didn’t bother an answer and the door banged again.
“Who’s there?” I asked, surprising myself with the sarcasm.
“Why’d you do it?” asked the jailor.
“You wanna’ ask me about it now?”
“Tell me.” The voice on the other side of the door was serious entirely.
“Bah!” “Bah to you! Why’d you do it?”
“Is there a reason to explain myself? If you knew better the things I knew, would it get you to unlock that door and let me walk free? Would it change your mind even?”
The jailor caught a laugh before responding. “Can’t say it would.”
“So, what’s it that you want? You won’t understand me, and I don’t think I’ve got the energies of persuasion to try.”
“Try.”
“You like the Bosses?”
“They’re okay. Keep me in work anyway. Keep people safe.” I slumped forward onto my knees where I sat and placed my elbows on my knees and watched the crack at the base of the door on the other side of the prison cell. “What’s it matter if they keep you in work? Think they care about you anymore than what you represent?”
“Huh?”
“I mean, you keep riffraff down and they like you for it. I wonder if they know you. You ever get invited to the feasts they hold at the hall? You ever worry about your water rations? You ever wonder why it is that so few of the women or men invited to the hall return? Children too, now that I think of it. They’d call those captured criminals, I know. Those brothers—the sheriff is to blame too—they’re bastards. You know they are.”
“Is that so? What’s that make me? A bastard too?”
“By proxy maybe.” I dryly chuckled. “What’s it matter? What do you want outta’ me anyhow? Some gratification? Some confession—you’ve gotten that already, ain’tcha? Maybe a repentance? Why don’t you call one of those Bosses on down from their throne and have them here on the other side of the door so I can apologize? Or call Lady and I’ll get her to channel some message to the afterlife and I’ll plead for forgiveness. That what you want? Now I’m a bad man and I know it, but it ain’t for the reasons you believe. What you want is belief that there’s a man under the skin of the monster you’ve projected? No, I won’t shoo away your boogeyman for you. It can’t be done, not from me.”
“You talk big for someone in your predicament. I like how you talk so holier. Like you’re talking down on me. I just wanted to know what made you want to go on a mad-killing spree the way you did.”
“Mm.” I cupped my hands together; as it was, my left knee shot off with pain and I tried to massage it to little comfort and stretched it out straight from my body. “When violence keeps you bound, violence is necessary to free yourself. That’s all I’ll say about it. If you hang me, then hang me. Spill my guts out for the birds and put a sack over my head so you won’t be sick by my face.”
“You’re a mouthy pig.”
I listened to the jailor’s footfalls disappear down the hall and finally it was totally quiet and all I could hear was the throb on my head. Lucky or unlucky? No, it wasn’t luck. I’d been marked. I was the payment, and I knew the price. The demon had my soul. Whatever protection it afforded me, I intended on using.
The image of that room continued over in my mind, with the peasantry (that’s what I saw them as then) knelt in front of the Bosses and the wall men, with the intense blood-smell, with the surprise on Maron’s face. Billy’s face. There was still a part of me, however small, that wanted to plead with him to change his ways. That wasn’t the part that welled up in me then though. The piece of me that wanted to see him die was what took over. It hadn’t been Maron that fired his gun; he’d still been fighting with his holster. I’d only taken a step in through the door and a spray of gunfire from one of the wall men’s rifles exploded and I was sure I was dead because I fell, and my vision went white. They should’ve put me down then.
I didn’t come too fully until I had a few goons on me, hauling me upright roughly under my arms. Maron didn’t say anything at first and those wall men took over; they shouted that I was alive still and I felt a hot gun barrel against my cheek.
“Stop!” shouted Maron. The Boss Sheriff stepped forward with his stilted gait and looked me over thoroughly. The gun barrel fell from my cheek, but they held me still; it wasn’t like I planned on fighting. “You got uglier,” said Boss Maron, “Really ugly.” His left eye, afflicted by the skitterbug infestation, had gone dead white with only the faintest trace of an iris; it dribbled pus.
I held his stare to the point that my eyes watered—whether from anger or sorrow or both—and my muscles tightened like an animal threatening to pounce. It was a ridiculous display.
“Lock him up,” said Boss Maron.
So, I was locked up and those uncounted days I was mildly tortured: sleep deprivation, pummeling, and sometimes they spit on me. It could have been worse. I’d seen worse.
The cell was numbingly quiet, and I continued to massage my knee, continued in thinking about how investing so much thought with the past twisted any future of mine into a dismal satire.
I could not tell how long it had been without sunlight and the jailor returned (he was bulbous and fattened and old but very strong—it could be sensed in how he carried himself) pushed through the door this time with a tray of diced potatoes, steamed but cold, and a metal cup of water. He sat them on the floor, stared at the tray there with his one good left eye, and it was like I could read his mind as he looked at the food there. He could destroy it; he jerked from the tray without saying a word to me then disappeared behind the door he closed. The jailor remained there outside.
Pride swelled in me momentarily before I pushed whatever silliness that was and devoured the food and drank the clear water. If it was poison, so be it. If it was poison, then all the problems of the world would disperse.
Again, the jailor pushed in through the door and bent to remove the tray and I was struck by the immediate thought of strangling him. So, I tried and threw myself at the man.
My hands felt the scruff around his throat, and I pressed hard with my fingers on his Adams apple. He’d lurched forward to lift the tray and he immediately came up with force, throwing me off him; my nails raked his cheek as I scrambled for purchase. He took the metal tray in both of his hands and thwapped me across the head—it rang, and I was stunned while he lifted back his right hand in a swing. In the dizziness, I momentarily caught a glimpse of the holster on his left hip and reached out dumbly for the revolver there. A meaty smack could be heard, and I didn’t even feel it when his fist met my face the second time. My head rocked and I fought to look upright, and his hand came again, and I put up my own hand in return; it was pushed away, and he continued at me, muttering epithets he found useful.
Once he was heaving and spitting, he left me on the cot and directly before slamming the door, he mentioned something about violence and how if I liked violence so much that he’d show it to me.
I nursed myself to sitting right-up and though adrenaline kept the pain away, I felt my face bruising already. There was no way for me to inspect the welts his hands had left, but I could guess their places by touch and how they thrummed with my heart.
Two days passed, if I counted them by the visits from the jailor and then Maron made his appearance to me, and I was surprised to see him with a leather eye patch over his left eye; he seemed ill on his feet and the jailor, though the man was there, did not move to stop Maron from entering the room and relieving me of my prison. He and the jailor roped my hands together in front of my pelvis and I didn’t fight.
Boss Maron stank of infection and yellow oozed from beneath his eye patch and he kept his cowboy hat pulled snugly over both his ears and did not speak so jovially—there were no crude jokes at my expense. A warmth radiated off him. The Boss carried my shotgun with him but made no remark on it. He marched me from the prison, and I met daylight, and it burned my eyes while I stared up into the reddish sky. Dust scattered from the nearest portion of wall and caught on the wind till it was carried and disappeared overhead, and I briefly thought how nice it must be to fly.
Golgotha stirred as ever, and people spoke loudly and candidly as I passed them by. Words came my way from passing faces like, “You kissed the devil’s ass!” or, “You sure are a monster, look at you!” and Maron pushed me on with the gun at my back, and I wavered on my legs like I was without any control.
“Is it true?” asked Boss Maron, “Did you kiss the devil’s ass?” He tilted the shotgun casually on his shoulder and kept me ahead of himself. He was taking me to hang—and making a big deal out of it too. “I know how you like to speak to them. The demons. I know how you conspire with them. I told them all how you do. Now they know I was right.”
What a rotten town it was, and it smelled like it. The atrophied muscles and diseased infections of those fine folks emanated in the air, flies buzzed around my head, bloated and doubtlessly happy from whatever corpse they’d sprung from.
“Say somethin’,” said Maron.
“What do you want?” I asked, watching my footfalls, ignoring the screeches of those on the sidelines; he marched me through the runways, past the onlookers which saw me with faces of twisted hatred. The tension was palpable—I could feel the venom off the eyes of those that watched. Blood red eyes which judged carelessly.
“I want you to say it,” said Maron; I felt the nudge of the shotgun at my back again and I stumbled forward, caught myself, carried on, “I want you to admit it to me. You’re like a mutant, ain’tcha? No better than any other monster. I knew it all them years. I seen it.” We took an alley and cretins followed behind; wall men flanked Maron and on either side of the narrow stretch there were faces made even with the wall, pressed there like they were afraid to be involved.
“Whatever you say, brother.”
“Don’t,” hissed Maron, “Don’t even.”
“What?” I spat the word, “Afraid they’ll treat you differently if they all know how close we are?” I felt the gun barrel press against my back, and I yelped out the words, “Hey! He’s my brother! My baby brother!” The barrel jabbed me in the spine, and I spilled forward, catching myself on one of those nearby faces. It was an old woman. She shoved me from her, and I flailed across the ground after trying to catch myself with my bound hands. Dirt met my face and exploded around me. I laughed, blinking through the dust. I spit too. He couldn’t kill me. Whatever black magic there was in me—bequeathed by Mephisto—refused me death. Maron lifted me with the help of his wall men, pinching the coat around my throat with his fist. He shoved me on, and we continued.
“You smell that?” I asked Maron.
“Stop talkin’. You might not be a man, but you’ll die like one,” he said. The wall men around muttered, and we took the way to the front square; already there were looky-loos gathered, throngs of them not at all bashful to see the day’s line-up—it was just me. The platform was emptier and that was good (Frank, Paul, and Matt looked naked without their eldest brother). Those Bosses which remained looked drunk as they did for any other execution. It was a good day for it. Warm. The stink of the crowd was worse and as those gathered parted for my entourage, the warmth of them cloistered us like the blood of a wound.
Even through the vile aroma, the smell of rotted poultry rose like nothing else. “You don’t smell it then?”
The roar, a cacophony of the damned souls stolen, shook the ground and the air changed. A dragon—Leviathan.
Along the wall which old skeletal corpses hung against dried blood stains from hook-chains, men and women scattered the length of the parapets with their weapons. Gunfire came and one of those atop the wall shouted, “Artillery! Dragon! Big guns!”
There was fire in the sky and the creature circled overhead and its wings beat the wind like mad; those organic ropes that hung from its body took on horrid shapes with its movement in the high noon sunlight.
Screams filled the air as the square erupted into panic. I dove into the sickly crowd; among the loudness, the horses which were lined by the big door fought against their ties and bolted across the square. Arms and heads disappeared beneath those dashing hooves, and it was not long before people were trampling people and in a quick glance I saw the Boss platform came down in splinters as the horses rushes it. Blood slickened the feet of many as they rushed to the buildings adjacent the square—what a small protection that’d be against Leviathan. A wall man went stumbling over the wall’s ledge and his body met the ground beneath the hanging corpses and he didn’t get up.
In the wild fray, Maron fired the shotgun into the air, and I briefly thought of where the pellets might fall.
Finally, artillery fire came and put a hole in the creature. It wavered in the air, its head lurched downward like it might pierce the ground and it pulled its long neck back and blew flames across the buildings. The heat was immaculate. Rotted chicken filled my lungs.
“There’s more!” shouted a wall man above, “Running across the field.”
The crowd grew more enamored with escape; there’s no good way to say it—blood frothed around our heels as I was shoved through the avenues of elbows, rocking heads, plunging knees. I pushed on, shielding myself with my bound hands as well as I could. I kept my head as high, and felt scratches reach my throat—doubtlessly those which could not continue—nails and fists came from every direction. In the ephemeral madness, I too screamed and it did not stop until I spilled into an alleyway along the wall nearest the execution chains. I ran and tripped from the crowd, slid, and bit my tongue so thoroughly that my teeth clicked together though the tissue; my breath was knocked from me. My pants were wet from the viscera. Others too had found the opening and barreled past me. I went to my feet and panted thought the pain, through the twinge in my left knee. I took the walls for support and still, those which rushed past nearly knocked me from my feet.
Some poor child—a lean, bony-faced boy—fell in the rush and before I had a moment to reach out, he was gone. Whether he lived or not, I did not stop to know. The crunch of bones as more people spilled into the narrow stretch indicated the worst.

2024.06.01 08:33 GroovyTony7 Just saw In a Violent Nature (2024) and…

Man that was pretty disappointing :(
I really wanted to love this movie and went into it with a couple expectations. I’m still a newer horror fan that hasn’t seen many of the classics yet. With that being said I don’t know if this concept has already been done before or not, but it sounded interesting. I went in expecting some nasty kills, a decent plot, and an intriguing slasher.
Kills:
Blondie had it the worst I mean her death was BRUTAL man. The very first guy to be killed had a nasty death as well. The rest though were okay and the one in the shed was very anticlimactic. I would’ve enjoyed to hear screaming or something to fill up that empty space in that scene. Ultimately, it ended up being kind of boring and lingered for too long. Which is really what ruins a lot of things in this movie for me.
Plot:
I think the plot was simple and I’m glad because it didn’t need to be complex. With how basic it was though I do wonder if maybe this film would’ve benefited more from being a short film. Especially since there’s so much time spent showing this man walking around. The overhead shot of him stalking his prey was very refreshing though since seeing only his back gets old pretty fast.
Our slasher (Johnny):
He was cool honestly I love the design for his face, his frame is convincing, and not having him speak was smart. The scene where he plays with the toy car was interesting and made you realize that he’s really just a big violent kid. He even had an unintentionally funny moment where he throws a body at some glass to retrieve his mask and an axe.
Ending
I really disliked it and actually said “that’s it?” once it cut to the credits. Lots of us in the theater groaned and had the same reaction. They drag out the last 10-15 mins A LOT and just for it all to lead to nothing that would progress the story. There was just a lot of empty space in these scenes and it ruined the whole thing for me. Towards the end I found myself reaching for the fast forward button but it wasn’t there. The final girl was in shock which I understand but man did we really have to let the scene drag out THAT much? I don’t know how you could’ve ended this film but that was pretty disappointing.
Conclusion
I think you might be better off looking up the kills since they were pretty good but overall this movie’s slow pacing and scenes with empty space ruins it for me.

As a gaming enthusiast and tech reviewer, I've had the pleasure of trying out the ASUS TUF Gaming VG27WQ1B 27-inch Curved Monitor. The first thing that grabbed my attention was its sleek design and immersive 1500R curvature. The 2560x1440 resolution offers excellent visual clarity, while the ultrafast 165Hz refresh rate ensures smooth gameplay without any tearing or stuttering.
One of my favorite features of this monitor is its Adaptive-Sync (FreeSync Premium) technology, which synchronizes the refresh rate of the display with the frame rate output by the GPU, resulting in seamless and fluid gameplay. Additionally, the ASUS-exclusive ELMB (Extreme Low Motion Blur) technology reduces motion blur, providing much sharper and responsive gameplay.
Another feature that I absolutely love is the ASUS TUF Gaming VG27WQ1B's Shadow Boost technology. It enhances the visibility of dark areas on the screen without overexposing the brighter sections, creating a more enjoyable gaming experience. Moreover, this monitor comes equipped with GamePlus hotkeys, offering various in-game enhancements co-developed with pro gamers, allowing users to improve their gaming skills effectively.
However, there are a few downsides to this monitor as well. While setting it up was relatively easy, the menu system can be slightly confusing at first, as it may not be immediately clear what each setting does. Additionally, though the monitor does offer decent viewing angles, some colors appear distorted when viewed from extreme angles.
Overall, the ASUS TUF Gaming VG27WQ1B offers an excellent combination of performance and aesthetics, making it a great option for gamers and professionals alike. Its impressive list of features, including the curved display and Adaptive-Sync technology, make it worth considering for anyone seeking a high-quality gaming monitor.

🔗32-inch LG QHD IPS Monitor with HDR 10

https://preview.redd.it/89imjjpelw3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=63c6fd9ec57986ec3f73ab336fee0c99fa509bf3
Well, my friends, let me tell you about the LG 32QN600-B monitor I've been using lately. It's a big, beautiful 32-inch screen, and it has made my work and play life so much more enjoyable. This monitor features QHD resolution and IPS technology, which makes my colors look incredibly realistic and vibrant, whether I'm editing photos, working on documents, or playing video games.
The HDR10 feature in this monitor allows me to experience a more dramatic and high-quality visual experience and picture quality by adding bright color coverage and wide color gamut support. One of the best things about this monitor is that it helps to maintain accurate color on the screen, preserving the original intended color of whatever it is I'm working on. And speaking of playing games, this monitor also comes with AMD FreeSync technology, which reduces image tearing and choppiness by syncing the monitor's refresh rate with my graphics card.
One of the features that has really stood out for me is Dynamic Action Sync, which helps me respond to action, opponents, and every moment in my games with minimal input lag and unbelievable performance. This has given me a real advantage in my favorite games like Call of Duty and Overwatch.
Another feature that's really come in handy is the Black Stabilizer, which allows me to see more detail in the darker areas of games, especially in games where visibility can be a crucial factor. This has helped me to spot enemy movements and react faster in game.
The design of this monitor is another big plus. It comes with an Edge-ArcLine stand that gives it a sleek and modern look while also making it easy to adjust the tilt for perfect viewing. And if you don't have enough space on your desk, you can always mount it on the wall.
But, of course, no product is perfect, and there were a few minor drawbacks that I encountered while using this monitor. For one, the build quality felt a little cheap, especially when compared to some of the other high-end monitors I've used in the past. In addition, the menu system was a little confusing at first, and it took me some time to figure out how to navigate through all the different options.
Overall, I would recommend the LG 32QN600-B monitor to anyone who is looking for a high-quality monitor that delivers excellent color accuracy, sharp image quality, and a fantastic gaming experience. It's not perfect, but it's definitely worth checking out. So if you're in the market for a new monitor, consider giving this one a try!

The ViewSonic VX2728J-2K is my go-to gaming monitor. I've been using it for a few months now, and I can't imagine playing without it. With a sleek design and vibrant colors, this monitor makes my games come alive.
One of my favorite features is the 165Hz refresh rate, which drastically reduces screen tearing and stuttering. Combined with the ultra-fast 0.5ms response time, it provides smooth gameplay even during intense action scenes.
Another standout feature for me is the flexible connectivity options. I can easily connect my dedicated graphics card and gaming console using DisplayPort and HDMI ports. It's impressive how seamless and vibrant my gaming experience becomes with this monitor.
While the setup process was straightforward and the stand looks immaculate, I did find that the ports were slightly limited. Additionally, the menu controls could have been more user-friendly. Despite these minor drawbacks, I am thoroughly impressed by the performance and visual quality of the ViewSonic VX2728J-2K.
Overall, I have no hesitation in recommending the ViewSonic VX2728J-2K to any gaming enthusiast looking for a high-quality monitor that delivers exceptional performance, seamless connectivity, and immersive visuals.

When I started using the GIGABYTE curve monitor, it added a whole new level of immersion to my gaming experience. The massive 34-inch display, coupled with the 1500R curve, envelops me into the game world like never before. With a 120Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time, I can effortlessly keep up with the fast-paced action in various genres, from first-person shooters to racing games.
One of the standout features is its spectacular color accuracy, boasting 120% sRGB, allowing the most vibrant and lifelike visuals. The monitor is compatible with VESA Wall Mount, so even if I don't have much desk space, I can still securely mount it on the wall.
Though I really appreciate its performance and design, the GIGABYTE monitor can be a little tricky to assemble, and its stand doesn't provide the sturdiest support. Nevertheless, these minor issues haven't hampered my gaming sessions.
Altogether, the GIGABYTE curve gaming monitor has significantly improved my gaming experience, offering an immersive, fluid, and visually stunning experience. If you're in the market for a high-quality monitor that truly stands out, the GIGABYTE curve monitor is a solid choice.

I've been using LG's 24" QHD FreeSync monitor, and I must say it's a game-changer for my daily work and play. The lifelike colors along with the sharp resolution make every image come alive, whether I'm editing photos or playing an intense game. The virtually borderless screen on three sides gives a truly immersive experience, and the AMD FreeSync technology keeps everything smooth and blur-free.
One thing that impressed me is the pro-level control and customization capabilities offered by the OnScreen control feature. It's a breeze to adjust settings and find the perfect balance for my needs. Plus, the blue light filter and flicker safe technologies ensure my eyes stay comfortable even during long usage sessions.
However, there are some downsides too. The mounting mechanism isn't the best, and I ended up needing a separate stand to secure the monitor properly. Additionally, the power supply being a wall wart could be inconvenient for some users.
Overall, this monitor delivers exceptional quality and performance for its price point. The combination of vibrant colors, high-resolution, and customizable controls makes it a versatile option for various uses, although the mount and power supply might need extra care.

🔗MSI Curved Gaming Monitor with 170Hz Refresh Rate

https://preview.redd.it/v3hl0cgilw3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d48ad5486b3ab9e15cf9bdc3e2720ceac34f738
As a fellow gamer, I recently had the chance to test out the MSI G273CQ Curved Gaming monitor and let me tell you, it's a game-changer! The first thing that caught my eye was its sleek design. The curved screen adds a certain immersion to gaming that traditional monitors lack.
One of the standout features for me was the 170Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time panel. These numbers might not mean much to non-gamers but trust me, they make a world of difference when it comes to smooth gameplay. It felt like I was playing on a higher-end PC, even though I was using the same old rig.
Another impressive feature is the AMD FreeSync Premium technology. This syncs the monitor's refresh rate with your GPU, effectively eliminating any screen tearing or stuttering. It's not something you can feel directly but believe me, once you've experienced it, there's no going back!
However, I did encounter a couple of issues. The first one was ghosting, which is quite disappointing for a gaming monitor. Games with high contrast areas, bright lighting sources, or dark shadows were particularly affected by this issue. Also, the mounting process could've been easier. It's stable once set up, but adjusting the height can be a bit cumbersome.
All in all, the MSI G273CQ Curved Gaming monitor is a solid choice for gamers looking to enhance their gaming experience. Its high refresh rate and response time make it perfect for fast-paced games, while the curved design provides an added level of immersion. Despite some minor flaws, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a new gaming monitor.

🔗MSI 275CQRF-QD 27" WQHD Curved Speedy Gaming Monitor

https://preview.redd.it/v8ilm9vilw3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6163becd39ed0744b1aed5451d7204b93f59e5e9
I've been using the MSI MAG 275CQRF-QD Curved Gaming monitor for a while now, and I must say, it's quite an impressive piece of hardware. The first thing that grabbed my attention was the immersive, curved 27" WQHD display. It provides such a detailed and immersive viewing experience that I often find myself getting lost in whatever I'm playing or watching.

What kind of video card do I need to support a 1440p 120Hz monitor?

To fully enjoy the benefits of a 1440p 120Hz monitor, a high-end video card capable of running modern games at or near 120Hz is recommended. Generally, NVIDIA's GTX 1660 or AMD's RX 5600 or higher are suitable options, although requirements may vary depending on specific game titles and individual graphical settings preferences.

Are there any downsides to using a 1440p 120Hz monitor for work purposes?

While a 1440p 120Hz monitor can provide a comfortable and enjoyable work environment with its high image quality and smooth scrolling, it may not be as cost-effective as lower-resolution options. Additionally, some work applications may not utilize the full potential of a high-refresh-rate monitor, making it less efficient compared to a standard 60Hz monitor for work-specific tasks.

How do I choose the best 1440p 120Hz monitor for my needs?

To choose the best 1440p 120Hz monitor for your needs, consider factors such as panel type (TN, IPS, or VA), refresh rate, response time, adaptive sync technology, size, and price. Take time to research different models and read online reviews to determine which monitor best aligns with your preferences and budget.

Are there any potential issues with using a 1440p 120Hz monitor with an older or lower-end PC?

While a 1440p 120Hz monitor can still provide benefits like improved image quality and smoother scrolling on older or lower-end PCs, it may not consistently achieve the desired high frame rates for optimal gaming performance. It is essential to ensure that your PC's hardware, including the CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage, can handle the demands of running at higher resolutions and refresh rates to ensure a satisfactory experience.

The ASUS Fast IPS technology ensures fast response times needed for quick reflexes during intense gaming sessions. Additionally, the PG38UQ supports native 4K 120Hz gaming without chroma subsampling on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X via HDMI, making it a versatile choice for both PC and console gamers.
One of the impressive features of this monitor is its excellent color accuracy. With a 98% DCI-P3 color gamut and DisplayHDR 600 certification, you are guaranteed true-to-life colors that immerse you further into your gaming world. The sleek design and high build quality complement the high-performance experience.
Set up is super easy, even for those unfamiliar with gaming monitors. It includes features like the Asus Fast IPS technology for quick response time and an Adaptive-Sync for super-smooth gaming visuals. These make it perfect for watching movies or playing games on a big screen.
The only downside I found was the placement of menu buttons at the bottom right, which may require some getting used to. But apart from this minor inconvenience, the Asus ROG Swift PG38UQ truly delivers a top-notch gaming experience on a 4K UHD screen.
Highlightes of this product include its large 4K UHD screen, fast 144Hz refresh rate, and the ability to support native 4K 120Hz gaming without chroma subsampling on consoles via HDMI. In fact, the only con to this monitor is the placement of menu buttons that may require some getting used to.

The quick response time and high refresh rate make even the most intense gaming sessions smooth and lag-free. I also appreciate the HDR modes and vibrant color gamut that bring my games to life with rich, lifelike visuals.
One downside is that this monitor doesn't come with built-in speakers, but the overall experience has still been top-notch. The adjustable stand allows me to find the perfect viewing angle, and the low blue light feature ensures my eyes don't feel strained after long play sessions. Plus, the wide range of connectivity options ensures compatibility with all my devices.
In conclusion, the Asus ROG Strix XG259QN is an exceptional gaming monitor that delivers on performance and visual quality. If you're looking to upgrade your gaming setup and take your game to the next level, this monitor is definitely worth considering.

🔗Asus ROG Swift OLED PG42UQ: Fast and Stunning 138Hz Gaming Monitor

https://preview.redd.it/knl0e89mfw3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14008290ae191d205b667810c28f476e1e317f6b
As a long-time gamer, the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG42UQ has completely transformed my gaming experience. This monitor has everything you could ask for - incredible picture quality, an impressively fast refresh rate, and a sleek design that wouldn't look out of place in a sci-fi movie.
The 4K UHD display is a standout feature, with vibrant and accurate colors that make every game feel more immersive than ever before. Plus, the HDR compatibility means that even the darkest scenes are rendered with stunning detail.
Then there's the 138Hz refresh rate, which ensures smooth gameplay even in the most intense action sequences. It's NVIDIA G-Sync compatible too, so you won't have to worry about screen tearing or other visual artifacts.
But the ROG Swift OLED isn't just all about its visuals; it's designed with your comfort in mind too. The intelligent cooling system keeps the monitor running smoothly even during marathon gaming sessions, and the Game Mode feature lets you easily customize settings to suit whichever game you're playing.
However, there are definitely some drawbacks to this monster of a screen. For one, it might be too big for some people's setup, especially if you're playing on a smaller desk or in a smaller room. Additionally, the weight of the monitor can make setting it up a bit cumbersome.
Despite these minor issues, I'm still blown away by the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG42UQ. It has revolutionized how I play games, making them feel more immersive and lifelike than ever before. If you're in the market for a new gaming monitor, this one is definitely worth considering.

🔗ASUS TUF Gaming 1080P Gaming Monitor

I recently got my hands on the Asus TUF VG277Q1A Gaming Monitor, and boy am I impressed! This 27-inch monitor is a game-changer for gamers who demand smooth and responsive performance. The Full HD display, coupled with a 165Hz refresh rate and 1ms Extreme Low Motion Blur, instantly enhances my gaming experience.
Its Eye Care feature is a godsend, reducing eye fatigue after extended hours of playing. Additionally, the monitor's Shadow Boost technology ensures that I don't miss out on any crucial details in dark scenes. Oh, and did I mention it has both HDMI and DisplayPort connectivity? Talk about versatility!
However, there are a few cons to consider. The power cable is a bit too short, which limits where I can place the monitor on my desk. And while assembly was a breeze, some may find the lack of adjustable height frustrating.
Overall, I highly recommend the Asus TUF VG277Q1A Gaming Monitor for gamers seeking a high-performing yet affordable option. It's definitely worth the investment!

🔗24" ViewSonic Omni Gaming Monitor

https://preview.redd.it/ys0rwnzmfw3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=36bc92d6a5bd287c3f880d234970a8a7c5439eb3
I've been putting the ViewSonic Omni VX2428 through its paces in my gaming setup lately. Right off the bat, this 24-inch monitor impresses with its sleek 3-sided frameless design, making it perfect for seamless multi-monitor setups. Under the hood, it boasts a high 180Hz* refresh rate, 0.5ms (MPRT) response time, and AMD FreeSync Premium technology, virtually eliminating screen tearing and stuttering for a fluid gaming experience.
The connectivity options are plentiful, with two HDMI (v1.4) inputs, and one DisplayPort (v1.2) input that ensures smooth flexibility for both general use and entertainment. However, the monitor's performance is hampered by the fact that the HDMI version is 1.4, limiting the output to a maximum of 120Hz if you're relying solely on HDMI connections. Another point to note is the lack of built-in speakers, which may require additional investment in external ones if you don't have any.
In terms of build quality, the VX2428 is very solid and sturdy, and it comes with a DisplayPort in the box, which is a plus. As a beginner, I've been giving this monitor a 9/10 so far, though I'll update my review after two weeks of usage.
Overall, I would recommend this monitor to gamers who are looking for a sturdy, sleek design with fluid, tear-free gameplay. Just keep in mind that you might need to consider additional investments for better sound quality and smoother connectivity options.

🔗MSI MAG 325CQRXF Curved Gaming Monitor (32", 240Hz, 1MS)

https://preview.redd.it/6fzsd5wnfw3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=505ec030a41467123db764d62c8245e5772acafa
I remember the first time I unboxed this baby - the MSI Mag325cqrxf Widescreen Gaming LCD Monitor. As soon as I plugged it in, my jaw dropped. The 31.5-inch QHD 240Hz 16:9 Curved 1000R Rapid VA Gaming Monitor lives up to its name with its breathtaking display and mind-blowing features.
The first thing that caught my eye was the 240Hz refresh rate. You know how some games can be a little choppy? Not on this monitor. It's smoother than a freshly waxed car, making my fast-paced games feel almost cinematic. And don't even get me started on the 1000R curvature. It's like I'm inside the game world!
I also love how they've incorporated anti-flicker technology and blue light reduction to make gaming sessions longer without straining my eyes. But what truly sets it apart are the vibrant colors and wide viewing angles provided by the Rapid Vertical Alignment VA panel technology. It's like I'm seeing colors I didn't know existed!
However, one thing that could be improved is its size. While it's perfect for smaller gaming setups, players with larger desks might find the 31.5-inch screen a bit too cozy. Also, the price tag might be a tad steep for casual gamers.
But overall, I am absolutely in love with this monitor. It's my ultimate gaming companion and has made my gaming experiences truly immersive and exhilarating. Thanks, MSI!

🔗Fast-Response 24.5" Gaming LED Monitor with Ultrafast 240Hz Refresh Rate

https://preview.redd.it/h6l0no6ofw3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aefbd3d9b59949624b86713e0ee6aa8cff16d7dd
Recently, I had the chance to test out the Asus ROG Strix XG259CM monitor, and it's been a game-changer in my quest for the perfect gaming setup. This sleek 24.5-inch monitor boasts a lightning-fast 240Hz refresh rate, designed specifically for professional gamers. Its Full HD resolution provides immersive gameplay, with colors that are sharp and vibrant, thanks to the IPS panel.
One of the standout features of this monitor is its ASUS Fast IPS technology, enabling a 1ms response time (GTG) for ultra-smooth gameplay. This makes a huge difference in first-person shooter games, where a split-second delay can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
Another convenient feature is the KVM switch, allowing you to control two connected devices using a single keyboard and mouse. This is perfect for those who work from home and need to switch seamlessly between their personal computer and their workstation.
On the downside, the monitor is quite heavy, making it a bit cumbersome to move around or adjust the angle. Additionally, the built-in speakers are decent but not outstanding, so you may want to invest in a separate set of speakers for a more immersive audio experience.
In summary, the Asus ROG Strix XG259CM monitor is a powerful and versatile tool for gamers and work-from-home professionals alike. Its impressive performance, combined with its intuitive controls and KVM switch, make it well worth the investment. However, its weight and mediocre speakers may not appeal to everyone.

🔗30" Curved Gaming Monitor with 200Hz Refresh Rate

I recently got my hands on the Sceptre 30-Inch Curved Gaming Monitor Metal Black C305B-200UN and I must say, it's been a game-changer for my gaming sessions. The first thing that caught my attention was the immersive viewing experience the curved display offers. It has made my gaming experience more intense and realistic.
The large 30-inch display is a treat for the eyes, especially when it comes to watching movies or playing games. The detailing is sharp and crisp, making everything look lifelike.
One of the standout features of this monitor for me is the 200Hz refresh rate. It provides an incredibly smooth gaming performance, giving me a clear advantage over my opponents.
The build quality is also top-notch. The monitor is sturdy and well-built, which gives me confidence that it will last for a long time. Additionally, it comes with built-in speakers that deliver quality audio, even though it may not be as powerful as external speakers.
However, there are a few areas where this monitor could be improved. The stand takes up a lot of space on my desk, which can be a bit inconvenient. Also, the menu buttons are a bit tricky to use, requiring some trial and error to navigate through.
In conclusion, the Sceptre 30-Inch Curved Gaming Monitor Metal Black C305B-200UN is a solid choice for gamers looking for a high-quality monitor at an affordable price. Its immersive display, smooth refresh rate, and solid build quality make it a winner in my book. Just be prepared for the space-consuming stand and the quirky menu buttons.

🔗ROG Swift Pro PG248QP NVIDIA G-Sync Esports Monitor

https://preview.redd.it/ic3dqt6pfw3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc7ec6d476c79030ba0bd50faef04f0e34f0172d
I recently got my hands on the Asus ROG Swift Pro PG248QP NVIDIA G-Sync Esports Gaming Monitor, and let me tell you, it's a game-changer for me as an avid gamer. I was initially skeptical about the 540Hz refresh rate, thinking it would be overkill, but boy, was I wrong. The smoothness it brings to my gaming experience is unparalleled.
First and foremost, the fast response time of this monitor is truly impressive. I play a lot of fast-paced games like Valorant and Counter-Strike 2, and the swiftness of the panel has made a noticeable difference in my gameplay. It's like looking through a crystal-clear window into the game, giving me that extra edge needed to outsmart my opponents.
The adjustable base is also a game-changer, as it allows me to fine-tune the ergonomics to suit my desk setup perfectly. The retractable claws on the base are a nifty touch that helps free up some much-needed space on my already cluttered desk.
As for the cons, I have to say that the build quality could be better. I encountered some issues with the bottom panel, which appears to be attached with glue and flexes when pressed. For a monitor priced at $900, I feel that the build quality should be more exceptional. Additionally, the compatibility with NVIDIA GPU's might be a turn-off for some, although it did not affect my personal experience.
In conclusion, the Asus ROG Swift Pro PG248QP NVIDIA G-Sync Esports Gaming Monitor has significantly improved my gaming experience with its lightning-fast refresh rate and smooth performance. The adjustable base is also a welcome addition to the package. However, the build quality could be better, and the compatibility with only NVIDIA GPU's might not appeal to everyone.

🔗Fast, 180Hz Gaming Monitor with Ergonomic Design

The first thing that grabbed my attention was its lightning-fast 180Hz refresh rate, which translates to incredibly smooth visuals and minimal motion blur. Couple that with the Adaptive Sync technology, and I'm getting tear-free gaming sessions that keep me immersed in my favorite games.
As a reviewer who's been playing games for hours at a time, the ergonomic design of this monitor is truly a blessing. I can adjust the stand to find the perfect viewing angle, and since the screen is bezel-free, it looks like a seamless part of my setup.
One of my favorite features of this monitor is its vibrant colors. The 99% sRGB gamut ensures that I'm seeing games in their full glory, while the 350 nits brightness means that I don't have to squint to see the action, even when playing in a well-lit room.
The 1ms GTG response time definitely deserves a mention as well. Fast-paced games are no longer a challenge for me, as the monitor keeps up with every mouse movement and key press without any lag or ghosting.
However, there's one drawback that I have to mention. The built-in 2W speakers are decent, but they don't deliver the same level of immersion as a dedicated gaming headset. That being said, the monitor itself is a solid buy for gamers who prioritize performance and visual quality above all else.
In conclusion, the Asus VG249QL3A is a fantastic gaming monitor that delivers smooth, tear-free gameplay with vibrant colors and a lightning-fast response time. It's perfect for long gaming sessions and provides an immersive experience that I wouldn't want to miss.

As a gamer, I've seen my fair share of monitors, but the Asus ROG Strix XG256Q truly stands out in terms of performance and design. The 99% sRGB color gamut adds vibrancy, making everything look more lifelike. Moreover, its 400 Nit brightness ensures clear visibility even in bright environments.
One of my favorite features is the adjustable stand, which lets me fine-tune the viewing angle for optimal comfort. I also appreciate the included Low Blue Light and Flicker-free technologies that help reduce eye strain during marathon gaming sessions.
The VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification takes this monitor to the next level, enhancing contrast and color depth to create stunning visuals with lifelike details. And with its wall mountable design, I have the flexibility to set up my gaming space however I want, without cluttering it with unnecessary cords and peripherals.
Overall, I'm impressed with the Asus ROG Strix XG256Q Gaming LCD Monitor. Its combination of speed, accuracy, and eye comfort make it an excellent choice for gamers of all skill levels. Another notable feature is the Picture by Picture mode, which allows me to view content from two sources simultaneously. This has been incredibly useful for multitasking and keeping an eye on my work and personal devices at the same time.
However, there are a few minor drawbacks to this monitor. Firstly, the KVM feature requires a software installation, which might not be ideal for some users. Secondly, I've noticed that the monitor tends to stick in a switching loop when trying to change input signals.
In conclusion, the Asus ROG Swift Gaming OLED Monitor (pg49wcd) offers an unparalleled gaming experience with its QD-OLED display and high refresh rate. Its immersive visuals and smooth gameplay make it a top choice for gamers looking to elevate their gaming setup. While there are some minor cons, they don't detract from the overall excellent performance and features offered by this monitor.

I also appreciate the Dynamic Shadow Boost feature, which helps me spot even the most elusive enemies in dark corners. The GameVisual modes and GamePlus hotkeys are incredibly handy, giving me the ability to customize my display quickly and easily.
One downside to note is that I've noticed some minor issues with the brightness and contrast if auto HDR is enabled on certain games. However, a quick tweak in the global settings ensures everything is running smoothly. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my new Asus Xg276q ROG Strix Gaming Monitor, and I highly recommend it for any avid gamer looking to take their skills to the next level.

FAQ

What are 1000 Hz monitors?

A 1000 Hz monitor is a high refresh rate display designed to significantly reduce motion blur, ghosting, and stuttering in video games or other high refresh content. This innovative technology allows for smoother gameplay and improved overall visual experience.

https://preview.redd.it/p34bykpsfw3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc811fcd2ba6545a4e814956839b2900647421b9

What are the benefits of using 1000 Hz monitors?

1000 Hz monitors offer several benefits, including:
  • Reduced motion blur and ghosting due to the high refresh rate, leading to a more immersive gaming experience.
  • Smoother gameplay with minimized stuttering, particularly in fast-paced games.
  • Improved perceived resolution and better overall visual clarity.

Do all 1000 Hz monitors support the same features?

Not necessarily. While all 1000 Hz monitors have a high refresh rate, other features may vary between models. Some monitors might offer additional connectivity options, advanced color reproduction, or adjustable stands, while others may focus solely on providing the highest possible refresh rate.

https://preview.redd.it/nboabf1tfw3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=398af9d4bc220fc5a318c3948c7bd2dfa950a200

How can I choose the best 1000 Hz monitor for my needs?

When selecting a 1000 Hz monitor, consider the following factors:
  • Resolution: Higher resolution offers better image quality and more detail.
  • Panel type: IPS (In-Plane Switching) panels provide wider viewing angles and better color reproduction, while TN (Twisted Nematic) panels have faster response times and are generally more affordable.
  • Connectivity: Ensure the monitor has the proper ports (HDMI, DisplayPort, USB, etc. ) for your gaming platform(s).
  • Additional features: G-Sync or FreeSync compatibility can help reduce screen tearing and ensure smooth gameplay at varying refresh rates.

Are PC systems with 1000 Hz monitors future-proof?

While 1000 Hz monitors offer significant improvements in motion clarity and stuttering reduction, their long-term viability depends on various factors. As technology continues to advance, new gaming trends or innovations may emerge, such as 144Hz monitors and next-generation display technologies. However, with the increasing prevalence of eSports and high-refresh-rate content, investing in a 1000 Hz monitor remains a solid choice for avid gamers.

Do I need a specialized gaming computer to take advantage of a 1000 Hz monitor?

While having a high-performance gaming computer is beneficial for achieving the full potential of a 1000 Hz monitor, many modern graphics cards and CPUs are capable of supporting high refresh rates. To maximize performance, ensure your system has adequate RAM and storage capacity, as well as a recent and powerful graphics card.

How do I enable 1000 Hz mode on my monitor?

Enabling 1000 Hz mode on your monitor is generally a simple process. Typically, you can access the graphics settings or monitor menu on your computer and manually set the refresh rate to 1000 Hz. However, the exact method for enabling 1000 Hz mode may vary depending on your computer's hardware and operating system.

Will I experience burn-in with a 1000 Hz monitor?

Burn-in, also known as image retention, can theoretically occur on any display. However, modern 1000 Hz monitors are equipped with advanced technologies that help minimize the risk of burn-in, such as pixel shifting and screen savers.

Do I need any specific software to maximize the benefits of a 1000 Hz monitor?

While having a dedicated graphics software may help optimize your overall gaming experience, it is not mandatory to maximize the benefits of a 1000 Hz monitor. Ensuring that your graphics drivers are up-to-date and compatible with your system and monitor is typically sufficient for taking full advantage of the monitor's features and capabilities.

2024.06.01 06:49 SimsAreShims Paul Tremblay and Leaving it to the Reader's Imagination/Interpretation

Let me apologize in advance: I'm going to be a bit of a hater here. Also, spoilers ahead.
In general, I hate open ended stories (be it books, movies, whatever). It comes across to me as lazy, as if the author didn't know how to end, so they got vague about it. This is a personal preference, sure, but it's one I feel very strongly about. To clarify, I do not need the story to be wrapped up in a nice, neat little bow, where everyone has a happy ending. A story can "finish" before it "ends".
What the hell do I mean by this?
Take, for example, Stephen King's The Long Walk. Major spoilers: Even though Garraty wins, he doesn't accept it, and starts running. We don't get a whole lot of world building to find out how the Long Walk became a thing, we don't follow Garraty after this, and thus we have no idea what happens, but the story is done. Extending it or explaining it wouldn't enhance the story; if anything, writing more would probably bring the horror elements down. The story was finished even though it didn't "end".
Back to Tremblay.
My first exposure to him was of course Cabin at the End of the World. This was before the movie, and it should have been RIGHT up my alley. World ending story that also contains references to religion? Hell yeah! Except, Holy hell, I could not read this thing for the life of me. The book starts off from the y y/o daughter, Wen's POV; she talks about her life, what it's like being adopted, taking language classes. She's in the yard organizing grasshoppers by size and giving them names and writing down what she thinks their genders are and OH MY GOD WHEN IS THIS STORY ACTUALLY STARTING??? At that point, I decided to try to skip ahead. Tremblay was verbose in other parts, so I tried to skip ahead. I ended up mostly going through the dialogue, reading more if it seemed relevant, and was left disappointed. I think the story really would have been enhanced by exploring the backgrounds of the four visitors, but, from what I did read, that didn't happen.
I checked the Wikipedia page to see if it was worth going back and trying again, but the ending If it was the end of the world was left kinda ambiguous. I could see an argument where The planes crashing is too much of a coincidence, so yes it is, plus the movie changed it to flat out saying it's the end of the world, but it just came across as so lazy to me. If anything, I think making the ending unambiguous would make the story better. It doesn't need to go on for much longer, but explaining what the "answer" is, in either case of the world ending or not, would reframe the rest of the story and make it better.
But maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance. I read someone say on here that there is a lot of subtlety in Tremblay's writing, and maybe that would have explained it more if I didn't skip to just the dialogue, so I decided to give him another chance by reading Growing Things and Other Stories, a collection of short stories. Warning: No more spoiler tags after this.
The collection starts withe the titular story Growing things, where there are deadly vines growing in the world. The dad leaves his daughters to go out to look for supplies. He explicitly says that if there is a knock at the door, don't answer it, because it means it's the end of the world. And at the end of the story, there's a knock at the door! The girls go upstairs to avoid the knocking and the vines that have invaded the house, and that's it. I guess this one has an ending: the world ends, and the daughters are waiting to die. Details of their death are left to the reader's imagination, as is any details of the vines, as is a lot of background of the characters. I know nothing, and not in a good way. Let's try the next one.
Swim wants to Know if It's as Bad as Swim Thinks. We start off with the unnamed protagonist working her job at a grocery store, where people are crowding the store trying to buy their items. The protagonist's coworker is talking about something coming out of the water. Protagonist says it's just a movie trailer. Protagonist goes on message boards about consuming meth, so we know she's an unreliable narrator. Not a problem, as this is not quite the same as an open-ended story. She kidnaps her daughter, who she does not have custody of, and takes her to a place from her childhood to be safe with her daughter. But she's following patterns from when she last took her daughter while she was under the influence. She has a gun, and it seems like the police have found her. So she might kill her daughter, and I guess actually there's no monster. Ironically, this story has a lot more world building than the previous one, but it's still left open ended in a way that doesn't contribute to any fear or thrill of the story.
Next up: Something About Birds. To write this review, I re-borrowed this book online from the library to refresh my memory. It wasn't until stumbling upon the ending that I even remembered I read this story, because it elicited absolutely no strong emotion in me, not even distaste. I don't remember it, skimming through doesn't remind me of what happened, so I can't properly comment on it. Same deal with the next story, Snapshot. Looking through the table of contents and skimming through the next several stories (minus Teacher, more on that later), it looks like I skipped reading a lot of them, until I got to "It's Against the Law to Feed the Ducks." Intriguing name, I like animals, so I read this one.
This story is from the POV of the young son, Danny. They go to the beach, which is weirdly empty. When back at the cottage, the parents watch some TV, presumably the news, and are horrified; they get Danny out of the room so they can keep watching. Next day, they go to the grocery store, where it's empty, but people have overflowing grocery carts. Remember from earlier, this is a bad sign. Electronics are also down, as dad has to pay with a check. Another day, another trip to the grocery store; this time, the cashier lets them take the groceries without bothering to count it (another sign!), and Dad fills up the car with gas and gets extra gas cannisters. More TV watching, except in the empty restaurant, where the parents ask to have the TV turned off because of the kids. The story ends with the reason why the title is what it is: it's against the law to feed the ducks, which they obey at the beginning, but not the end, because the world is ending. We never learn what is happening, which makes sense if the POV is from a child, but that doesn't add to the horror. There's no horror from the kid's POV, just confusion. The reader is supposed to understand that Bad ShitTM is going down, but without any details, I quite frankly don't know why I should care. This is essentially a story about buying groceries and watching TV, bookended by ducks.
Of the stories I've described thus far, we get the whole end-of-the-world theme repeated, without anymore details, without any real ending, and without me caring. The one exception is Teacher, which I liked so much, I read it thrice: the first time, a second time when I remembered it existed, and then I read it again fully to write this review, rather than skimming it.
The story starts with an introduction to Mr. Sorent, the cool teacherTM. He has long hair and plays guilets the highschool seniors talk about more controversial topics like drugs and abortion, and has some days has SpecialTM lessons, which has the same rule as Fight Club: you do not talk about Fight Club Special lessons. In the first one, he shows a video of a daycare/preschool, where a teacher is spinning around with a child and accidentally lets go. Mr. Sorent stops the video, and then moves it frame by frame until a wall comes into view. That is the end of the first special lesson.
Time passes, more special lessons. More disturbing videos, a guest who reflects on how awful it is to have a disease and be used as inspiration porn, all of which end with the video moving a few frames. The protagonist, Kate, tells a story about when she was a kid, and she was forced to watch some boys mutilate a dead frog, and how it affected her baseball game. As the SpecialTM lessons bring down the students' academic lives, their personal lives and kate's family life deteriorate as well. The story ends with Kate trying to prevent the video from finishing using the same coping mechanism she used after watching the frog get mutilated: She volunteers for a demonstration, and moves forward without opening her eyes, hoping that if she doesn't, the film will never finish, and the accident with the child will never occur.
So what makes Teacher stand out from the others?
Tremblay actually talks about what's happening; we're shown the progression of the class, the reason why it's happening. There's no mystery of what's on the TV, or why the students are acting the way they are. The why is clear: they're being taught disturbing life lessons from a teacher they used to trust and admire. Sure, we don't actually know if they ever finish watching the video, or what happens after, but it doesn't matter, because the story isn't about that. It's about the students, and we see their arc, as they go from normal teenagers to depressed and cynical teenagers.
In the other works I've mentioned so far, we mostly get that the world is ending (or the addict mother thinks it is), but we don't know how. Considering that the end of the world is what's moving the stories along, IT'S KIND OF A BIG DEAL. Even in Cabin, where the horror is that the family is trapped in a deadly situation, knowing whether or not there's any truth to the visitor's reason for coming to the cabin would enhance the story. Compare to King's The Mist: book ends ambiguously, movie ends tragically, and even King says the movie ending was better. But with Tremblay, time that could be used for learning more about the visitors and if it's the end of the world is instead used on organizing grasshoppers.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. Next time I'm here, I'll try not to write in a faux manic state while mildly sleep deprived at 5 am.

🔗ETS Group Glock 42 9-Round Extended Magazine

https://preview.redd.it/vzhv4yaq3w3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7e7bedf4cdb4dbbb595e56b23fcb03be3594657
I recently gave the ETS Group Glock 42 9rd Mag a whirl, and I have to say, it was a game-changer. The first thing that stood out to me was the magazine's extreme impact resistance. I dropped it a few times during my testing, and it held up like a charm. The creep-resistant feed lips also made a difference in terms of reliability.
One of the highlights for me was the translucent body, allowing me to see the count and type of rounds at a glance. It's a simple yet effective feature that makes it easy to manage your ammo. The compatibility with and aftermarket floorplates is also a big plus, giving you more flexibility when it comes to customizing your weapon.
However, there were a few things I noticed that could be improved. For example, the magazine sometimes takes a bit of effort to load the last round, which can be a bit frustrating. Additionally, the fit and finish of the product seemed slightly less polished than some of the other high-end Glock mags I've used in the past.
Overall, the ETS Group Glock 42 9rd Mag offers solid performance, reliability, and customization options. It's a great choice for those looking for an affordable yet functional alternative to the factory Glock mags.

🔗Diamondback DBAM29 380 Extended Magazine with Finger Extension

https://preview.redd.it/ry02fogq3w3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44c95349f1d47d867c3283c24a12d17143195853
As a lover of outdoor sports, I recently needed an extra magazine for my Diamondback DBAM29, which I use for hunting expeditions. This replacement spare magazine did the job perfectly. It's just as reliable and robust as the original one and its finger extension made it far more comfortable to load, especially when hunting under challenging conditions.
However, being a novice with spare magazines, I noticed it was a bit pricey. Not to overemphasize, it's not the most affordable magazine. Despite that, its durability and top-notch performance make it worth the investment. I would recommend this spare mag to Diamondback owners who want a reliable backup for their gun.

🔗US Palm AK30R 7.62x39mm 30-Round Magazine in Black for AK-47

https://preview.redd.it/hc05tvtq3w3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1264585433d37a91f90fc70a49a03846d77090b7
When I first laid my hands on the US Palm AK30R magazine, I must admit, I was a bit skeptical. The price seemed reasonable, but would it live up to the hype? Little did I know, I was about to embark on a truly remarkable journey with these mags.
From the moment I started using them, the quality shone through. The low friction self-cleaning polymer follower made loading a breeze, while the unique waffle and tread design gave me that reassuring US Palm touch. But the real star of the show was the reliability - even during rapid fire, these mags performed flawlessly, and that was when I knew I had stumbled upon a winner.
However, no product is perfect, and I faced one minor issue: the fit on my AK-47 receiver required a bit more pressure than usual. But it wasn't a deal breaker, and with a quick search online, I discovered this was a common issue with AK mags.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the US Palm AK30R magazine. It delivered on its promise of reliability and was priced so well that it didn't break the bank. If you're in the market for a high-quality AK mag, I'd certainly recommend giving this one a try.

🔗Walther PPK 380 8RD Extended Magazine

https://preview.redd.it/nqhxqv5r3w3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e520bb6ca716fd24e0cbe827c494705419c9835
I've been using the Walt Magazine CCP 380 8RD for quite some time now, and I must say, it has been a reliable companion in my daily life. The high quality materials used in its construction make it both sturdy and sleek, which I appreciate. One of the most notable features is its perfect fit with my CCP, ensuring durability and reliability that you can't find in other brands.
However, there's one aspect that needs improvement, which is the viewing holes for the magazine's capacity, making it challenging for right-handed shooters to check the rounds. But overall, the Walt Magazine CCP 380 8RD has been a trusty partner, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an efficient and durable magazine for their CCP 380.

🔗Durable Springfield Hellcat Magazine Extension for Improved Grip

https://preview.redd.it/xyk6u5jr3w3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a489c7a471338f815ca23b111c3be9282d37e1bc
Recently, I tried out the Springfield XD(M) 45 ACP Compact magazine sleeve, a helpful accessory to keep in your gun. It's designed particularly for those using high capacity magazines, creating a firm grip between the magazine base plate and the pistol grip. It fits perfectly with an XD(M) 45ACP Compact, which I thought was great, as I didn't have to worry about stability with my larger magazines.
However, the experience wasn't flawless. The product came with some setbacks too. The sleeve seems to be of higher quality than its price suggests, but the company's customer service was less than satisfactory. Unfortunately, they charged and shipped the item despite a same-day cancellation, causing a small inconvenience. I also noticed slight difficulties in fitting the magazine sleeve onto my XD(M) 45 ACP Compact, though I could work it it out eventually.
Despite these drawbacks, I feel that the benefits of the Springfield X-Tension magazine sleeve outweigh the negative experience I had with the company. It provides a solid grip and stability to an often-unnoticed aspect of shooting, making my experience with the XD(M) 45 ACP more comfortable. Overall, it's a product worth considering for XD(M) 45 ACP Compact shooters seeking a more stable experience with their high-capacity magazines.

🔗Increase Hellcat Magazine Capacity with KRISS Mag-Ex Kit

https://preview.redd.it/gld5gssr3w3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df4464f4c153a30f1bb345049707a37c4427f9f1
As someone who appreciates precision and durability in their firearm accessories, I was excited to try the Kriss USA Magex2 Extension Kit. The extended baseplate, outer sleeve, and spring all came together flawlessly to provide a boost in capacity for my factory standard Glock magazines.
I must say, the lightweight reinforced composite construction made it a joy to handle, and the 30-round capacity truly made a difference in my shooting experience. However, I noticed that it was incompatible with reduced capacity 10rd magazines, which could be a potential downside for some users. Overall, the Kriss USA Magex2 Extension Kit delivered on its promises, and its long-term reliability is truly something to be admired.

🔗Adjustable Retention Magazine Pouch for Alien Gear

https://preview.redd.it/xhcsz6ws3w3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13ea2bb5d9ba267a8511917431202bcd8bdf62ae
As soon as I started using the Alien Gear Cloak Single Mag Carrier, I was impressed with its durability and secure locking system. It gave me the freedom to adjust my retention settings and angle for the perfect fit, no matter my carry method.
Living in America, it was great to know this product was made right here. However, I did notice that the mag pouch was a bit heavy during longer outdoor activities, and sometimes would shift slightly in its position.
But overall, I've been really happy with this purchase and can confidently recommend it to others looking for a reliable and customizable mag carrier.

🔗8-Round Stainless Steel Kimber 1911 Magazine

https://preview.redd.it/ghrr2x4t3w3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b48dc33935aa2c68fa3b5699e0a93ba7083e28fc
These Ed Brown 848 45 magazines have been a reliable addition to my collection. The stainless steel finish is a nice touch that adds a touch of class to the overall design.
One big positive for me was the fact that the magazine tube has been lengthened to accommodate the 8th round while still maintaining the original ultra-reliable follower design. However, one minor drawback I've noticed is that it can be a bit tricky to load the 8th round, but with a bit more practice, I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.
Overall, I'm quite happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend these magazines to fellow 1911 enthusiasts.

🔗Stainless Steel 32 ACP/380 ACP Guardian Magazine (6-round)

https://preview.redd.it/wm477xot3w3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a20a5179e3a6664d1c060bb317ff84d2b9e13fc
Last week, I found myself in a situation where I needed an extra magazine for my North American Arms 380. I decided to give the 6-round Marlin Model 80 Magazine a try. To my surprise, this stainless steel magazine perfectly fit my. 380 ACP Guardian. It's compact and easy to carry when I need an extra round.
The flat floor plate design makes it simple to load. The magazine features a sturdy spring that holds the rounds in place securely, ensuring they won't get jammed when I need them the most. One thing that did stand out a bit negatively was the size – the magazine is designed for a capacity of six rounds, which limits its efficiency compared to larger-capacity options. However, if you're a North American Arms 380 owner and need an additional magazine for your gun, this one is worth considering.
As I used it, I began to appreciate the convenience and reliability this magazine brought to my gun. I ended up ordering a few more to ensure I was always prepared for unexpected situations. With a smooth operation and a good feeling in my hands, the Marlin Model 80 Magazine is a reliable addition for anyone looking to enhance their loadout.

🔗Shield Arms S15 Magazine Upgrade with Easy Access Floor Plate

https://preview.redd.it/1a4wtxst3w3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64abd941c2b8b342ff533c0bcd1143f3f4f8c830
I recently had the pleasure of testing out the Shield Arms S15 +5 EXT Red, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. The unique easy access floor plate made it a breeze to access the spring and follower without removing the extension from the magazine body. The extension body itself featured index cuts, which added a touch of precision to the already impressive design.
Machined from billet 6061 aluminum, the S15 +5 EXT Red boasted a well-crafted, high-quality build. The Type 2 anodized finish added durability and a sleek appearance, making it a standout accessory for any S15 Gen 2 magazine. With its addition of 5 rounds, the Shield Arms S15 became even more versatile for those high-stress situations.
Not only does this extension fit most aftermarket flared mag wells, but it's also proudly made in the USA. The 12-coil plus power spring ensured a smooth and reliable magazine performance, and the added rounds were a real boost in confidence when I needed it most.
However, there were a couple of minor cons. At first, the installation process was a bit tricky, and I had to consult the user manual for guidance. Additionally, the design could be a little more low-profile for an even stealthier look. Nonetheless, the Shield Arms S15 +5 EXT Red proved itself to be a top-notch upgrade for any S15 magazine enthusiast.

Architectural Record Magazine has been a staple in the architecture industry for over a century and I've recently subscribed to it. I've been thoroughly pleased with the content it provides, offering a well-rounded mix of design inspiration, professional strategies, and the latest industry news. The magazine is filled with striking visuals, detailed articles, and practical tips that are genuinely helpful in my everyday work.
However, one downside I've noticed is the occasional repetition of topics or articles. While it's great to have in-depth coverage on certain topics, it can be a bit redundant when the same subject appears multiple times in a single issue. Despite this, the subscription still offers a wealth of valuable information, making it a worthwhile investment for anyone in the field.

As a lover of all things art and design, I recently got my hands on the Graphis Journal 380. This quarterly publication has been a refreshing addition to my reading routine, and the moment I opened it, I was drawn in by the stunning visuals.
Being a fan of photography, I was particularly impressed by the quality and range of images featured in this issue. It's rare to find a magazine that provides such a comprehensive look at the creative minds behind the lens, from well-known names like Henry Leutwyler to promising new talents.
One of the highlights for me was the deep dive into the work of Armando Milani, a renowned designer who has made a significant impact in the world of advertising. His insights and explanations of his creative process were enlightening and inspired me to think differently about my own work.
However, the content can be quite dense, and some of the articles may be a bit challenging to fully understand, especially if you're new to the field of design. Nonetheless, it's a small price to pay for the wealth of knowledge and inspiration that this journal provides.
In conclusion, if you're a design enthusiast looking to keep up with the latest trends and stay inspired by the world's creative powerhouses, the Graphis Journal 380 is a must-read. It's not just a magazine, but a visual feast that will keep you coming back for more.

I recently tried the RYOBI 21° Extended Capacity Magazine, and I have to say, it's a game-changer for my framing projects. It holds two full strips of nails, allowing me to work for longer without interruptions. The extended capacity is a lifesaver when I'm tackling larger projects. I particularly appreciate the bottom loading design, making it quick and easy to install, and the compatibility with my RYOBI PBL345B nailer.
However, it's worth mentioning that this is a consumable item and may require frequent replacement. Additionally, the operator's manual is included with the purchase, but I wish there were more installation instructions available.

As a gun enthusiast myself, I recently tried out the Shield Arms PMAG +5 Extension, and I must say, it's a game-changer for your Magpul PMAG magazines. The ease of access this extension offers is remarkable - no more struggling to remove the extension from the magazine body.
You can quickly reach the spring and follower without any fuss. However, the only drawback I encountered was the slight difficulty in fitting the extension onto my Magpul PMAG, but once it's in place, it works like a charm. Overall, I highly recommend this product to those in search of a reliable and easy-to-use magazine extension.

One sunny day, I decided to try out the Ridgid 21° Extended Capacity Magazine on a construction job. This little beauty holds up to two strips of nails, making my daily work so much easier. Made of strong magnesium, it was a breeze to install and I was up and running in no time.
However, there was one minor drawback. It is compatible only with Ridgid's 18V Brushless 21° Framing Nailer. But hey, that's a small price to pay for the convenience and increased productivity it provided on the jobsite. New Colors, Different Gusset?
Every time I try on the new legging colors they always give me a MASSIVE 🐫! It’s SO embarrassing but I figured I could stretch and maneuver the leggings to fix it, I could maybe lose some weight, and then I thought “Maybe I’m not the problem.” Turns out, I think I was right. On the top left, I compared my Olive Tree Airlift Leggings bought in February to the Black Airlift Leggings I bought in NOVEMBER. The gusset (the little triangle in the crotch of the legging) is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller in the Olive Tree. I found the same problem in the Pink Summer Crush Airlift Leggings on the bottom left. Then, I compared my Black Airlift Leggings with my Navy Airlift Leggings, I used the same picture in both frames on the right, (which were bought before the April Navy refresh, I believe I bought them in December) and that one has a normal sized gusset. Neither of the leggings pictured on the right cause issues with a big ol’ 🐫 right front and center! What is Alo’s issue? Are they trying to save on production materials at the cost of quality? I was wondering if anyone else has this issue because I swear I can’t be the only one. And this is so disappointing because I LOVE a good matching airlift set 😭

Urusei Yatsura (2022) Bringing Back a Classic - A Retrospective and Comparison
Open
The overall objective of this post is to celebrate the conclusion of the recent adaptation to Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura. Though I will be making comparisons to the Manga and the 1981 show, it is done with any intent in claiming that one is better but merely to mark differences.
I am hoping - that by looking back on the series that we can appreciate it more and pick apart why the adaptation adapted what they did and how they went about it. So if, like me, UY is your mental illness, I would be very happy if you were to join me in going back through and looking at the new series and what it gave us.
Lum by @click_burgundy
Visual Aesthetic
This show pops right out of the line up of today's Anime. For one - the colors are all deeply saturated and explicitly bright. This not only helps make the bright watercolor world of Urusei Yatsura's Tomobiki much more engaging, but the show often will drastically change the palette to emphasize a character's emotion.
\"Your face is an absolute disaster!\" Episode 1 - Young Love on the Run/Between a Rock and a Hard Place
This immediately reinforces the light tone of Urusei Yatsura and later these pop colors will be used to contrast darker colors for much more dramatic effect such as in Lum Becomes a Cow.
Lum Becomes a Cow (Season 3, Episode 6)
This vibrant, poppy, aesthetic to me most likely emulates the covers of the UY Mangas and bright and colorful they were.
Cover Art of Urusei Yatsura Vol. 4
This gives the show a much more distinct "flavor" and not only sets itself apart form the anime airing at the same time, but also from its 1981 predecessor who's colors were much more standard, and likely much more convenient to work with at the time of their own production.
Audio
The audio aspects of this television series is probably the most intriguing part of the production to me. This is in reference mostly to the Original Soundtrack and how they have chosen to use and go about making it.
The composer of the 2022 OST is Masaru Yokoyama who has worked on other popular series such as Your Lie in April, Fruits Basket, Horimiya, and most recently Jellyfish Can't Swim at Night.
The style of it is almost like that of a Saturday morning cartoon, meaning that you are going to be hearing the same track repeated often to hit the same emotional or narrative beats.
For instance if there is romantic moment you will likely here the following track Love in Words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWACwDXm6a4&list=OLAK5uy_lzLnzYZnT_slrEVItgjb1uymSALwQs_xs&index=10
Or if someone becomes disappointed or is feigning so you will hear Heartbreak Elegy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdQqIK7B16A&list=OLAK5uy_lzLnzYZnT_slrEVItgjb1uymSALwQs_xs&index=20
I would implore you to listen to these tracks and play a little game to see how many you can recognize. Not only is it fun, but the music in genuinely top notch, and you often never hear a track in it full entirety, even the shorter ones.
The choice to do the OST like this, I believe, is to better suit the snappy pacing of this series. Emotions are fickle from second to second as the jokes are hitting you like rapid fire jabs.
Which is fitting because the synth music with some surprising vocals is upbeat and gets you ready for a good time. I will not pretend to know anything about what makes a track good - I know nothing at all about the production of music.
However, I can as a fan really appreciate how this OST keeps the tradition of having Lum No Love Song strumming in the background in a few tracks, similar way to what the '81 show did. It is a great way to show love and respect for what came before.
That being said, in practice, some of the final product becomes janky- especially for touching emotional scenes in which you want that track to really play out and let the audience sink into feeling the scene wants to give off.
You notice this as early as the episode The Gloves of Love and Conflict/How I've Waited For You... (Season 1, Episode 5). About 17 minutes into the episode, we see Lum contemplating about Ataru situation. There is then a cut away to Ataru in the cafe and just a few seconds later we cut back to Lum and track starts over again!
Season 1 Episode 5 - Gloves of Love and Conflict/How I've Waited For You
This is not really on the fault of the composer but more of an editing thing. I generally feel as if this issue is much more present in Season 1 and 2 and is much less frequent in 3. I think having the same tracks being much more spaced would have been preferred.
It's true, in the Urusei Yatsura '81 you can hear the same tracks again and again, but generally thats only from episode to episode and the tone of those tracks is much more mellow as the episodes stretched out the adaptation of a chapter into a 22 minute run time gave them a lot more room to dig into those longer scenes.
Narrative Structure
To be more specific, I will talk about how both episodes themselves are structured and the over arcing narrative of the 2022 series.
Episode by Episode Structure:
Right out the gate, this show hits the ground RUNNING and it is both a sprint and a marathon as you blasting through the run time of each episode with joke after joke coming in at that rapid fire pace I mentioned before in the Audio section. It is also a marathon in sense that because you are going through so many adaptations of different chapters so quickly - you almost feel as if you are seeing a lot.
It's also very clear that David Productions had their work cut out for them putting this much content together in what is, compared to the Manga and '81 series, is so little time.
I remember being surprised between the cut from \"Young Love on the Run\" and \"Between a Rock and a Hard Place\" in Season 1 Episode 1
This rapid pacing caught me, and I believe a majority of it's audience, off guard. The reason is clear as day to me and that is that they are trying to be as faithful to the Manga as possible.
For those who have yet to read the manga (you are doing yourself a disservice) on average a majority of the chapters are only 16 pages long. For context the average western comic book has double that at 32 pages.
https://preview.redd.it/d2cjb0tg6v3d1.png?width=928&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3955f1446906d5d11880b0e2cf50d84404cae08
Chapter 265 - \"Chomp Chomp Everybody!\" In just two pages the conflict and \"gimmick\" are introduced which will the focus for the next 14 pages! The structure stays the same for almost all the chapters.
So in the manga, the pacing is break neck, but because of it's medium, you the reader ultimately decide how long you are going to spend on each panel and so this speed is slowed somewhat.
However when adapting these stories gauging the timing of these jokes becomes a little more tricky. I will say most the time the jokes do land and as the series progresses it gets on average better with this pacing or rather, you as an audience member have adapted.
That isn't to say that David Productions is entirely afraid to walk off the beaten path, they push the limits of the faithfulness a little in benefit to the story they want to tell, for instance, almost all episodes in which there is a genuine play for emotion - you will notice scenes, dialogue, or beats that have been added in order to pad out the run time and try to get you as attached to the characters as you can.
This plot point about the Maple Leaves does not exist in the Manga and since we see this visual repeated in later episodes it seems to be a tissue to help connect the narrative in the 2022 version.
Oh! Of course this run time is also so they can fit more iconic chapters to be remade or made for the first time, though I am sure that is obvious.
Overall Narrative Structure:
This is interesting because outside of specific "arcs" UY does not have any real overarching narrative and thats on purpose. It is a gag comic that was published weekly with so little pages to work with.
However, despite this David Productions has decided to attempt to make a overarching narrative within the show. Why?
My only guess is that it is popular. Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, One Piece, etc. People today want to connect with the cast and watch them grow and develop.
Needless to say, there is little to no development in UY outside of Mendo's development "over" his fear of dark and cramped places. The other development is much more subtle and is the one that David Production has decided to focus on because it is in regards to the Protagonist.
Ataru over the course of the Manga doesn't outright go through very obvious changes in regards to his feeling about Lum. There is only one case in the early chapters where you can find him complimenting Lum.
Chapter 26 - \"How I've Waited For You\"
This is probably the most blunt he has ever been about his feelings regarding her. After this he never says anything about his feelings about her. However, Chapter to Chapter, we see him grow much more attached to her.
Chapter 322, Pages 15-16 - \"Darling's True Feelings\" Unless you count this lmao
Moments in the Manga where we are able to see Ataru's love for Lum in action is one of the main emotional corner stones for the series and I know for myself, is the best part of UY.
What David Productions has decided to do is to take the interactions where we see Ataru become affectionate for Lum and place them in key moments within the Seasons to give the sense that their romance is becoming much more real. They do this in addition to giving much more followable continuity.
Season 3, Episode 20 - \"Boy Meets Girl: The Morning of Farewell\" return of the smol lum!
All of this of course builds to the climax and finale of the story, where Ataru and Lum's relationship is tested.
Final Thoughts
Very quickly, I want to get out of the way my only other grip with the show beside what was stated in Audio and thats the quality. To me there is a lot of short cuts I see in terms of animation and art quality through out the series. I cut it some slack, because to me this project within the given time frame seems like a huge undertaking.
Season 2, Episode 11 - \"Cosmo Teacher CAO-2/Ooh, Scary! Voodoo Doll\" Poor Ataru :( he is not the only by the way, there is quiet of a few times I noticed different eye sizes or them looking in the wrong direction.
That being said, I would have rather waited for higher quality episodes rather than pushing their work out as fast they can. Perhaps it seems nitpicky, but I am not asking for medium-defining animation each week - in fact that would seem out of place. I am just asking for more polish, really. Though this is more an issue with the anime industry as a whole rather than the series.
With that out of the way, I really enjoyed this reboot. I looked forward to it every week and was happy to see a refreshing take on it.
I got into UY because it was recommended in a Youtube video. I watched the first episode of 2022 and then remembered that there was an original anime series before this one.
Then, the following week I feel really ill and was stuck at home for weeks. I figured that I had nothing else to do and watched the '81 series in one go. It was then that I really become a fan of Urusei Yatsura.
Personally, and this will seem mean to say, but don't admire Urusei Yatsura for what it is. It is a gag comedy series with little romance and plot or character development. I am actually one of those people who prefers to have a narrative or at least a focus on a developing character.
However, in spite of this it has become one of my favorite comfort anime/manga since watching and reading it about a little over a year ago now.
It's been hard to not gush about this series with other people, because I don't feel like there is a lot of other people who would get the appeal of the show and the humor it goes for. Mostly because it is dated lol
That being said, it has been nice to share all these thoughts here since I don't have anyone to share them with. So please feel free to share your thoughts about the show, stuff you really liked and stuff that I said that made you think about the show in a different way (if at all).
I don't know if I will do another one of these post regarding UY, I feel like I have a lot of opinions about it, but I am channeling that into something I am working on right now and would like to keep that power to myself :)
@az210309 on Zerochan
Thanks for reading all of this and for your kind attention.

2024.06.01 03:59 UndercoverOrangutan Talk me out of leaving M43

Talk me out of leaving M43
I've been shooting M43 for my entire camera career. Had images published in magazines, shot films that played in festivals on a GX85 and G85. The system has been awesome for me. I'm still shooting my G85 but it's getting beat to hell and I'd really like to upgrade for some more video features, particularly bulletproof CAF and modern, high bitrate 10 bit log.
I'm also a professional alpinist and skier, so I want the smallest, lightest, best weather sealed hybrid setup imaginable. And that's where I'm running into an issue with M43, a system I invested in because it met those exact criteria. The G9II is literally in the S5II's body and costs more, so why use the smaller sensor? The kit S mount 20-60 is small, cheap and an ideal focal length. The GH6 doesn't have PDAF, it also huge and IMO isn't a pleasant camera for stills.
So ok, how about OM System? The OM1 is so, so close but reviewers seem to consider it primarily a stills camera. Its video output is crippled to what is described as pretty poor 8 bit unless you shoot log, which I don't always want to do. You also need to buy the OM1II to get the best tracking AF (a feature which could have been a firmware update) and that makes me angry. The OM5 is not an upgrade over my G85 for video and that's a bit sad in 2024.
So, what to do? I would kill for a refreshed G95, an OM5 with real video capabilities or the G9II's video specs in an OM1. I'm tempted to jump ship to Sony and buy an a6700, which has everything I want except for weather sealing I don't trust and ergonomics I don't love (but can get over at that gloriously tiny size). I'm also tempted to just deal with the size penalty and jump to full frame with an S5II or either and A7CII or A7IV from Sony.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Is the OM1's video that poor? Am I missing something that could keep me in the system? I just want something small, tough and easy to pull out and shoot when I'm cold, tired and would really rather not. I'd prefer to use the lenses I already have but man, these companies are making it hard. Particularly Panny with their instance on massive bodies. Images of what I like to shoot included for interest.
