I know the prevailing logic is not to tell your wife how much money you have and to hide it from her. However I can't help but wonder what would happen to it when you die. She would need to access that money so it won't disappear.
Another thing is that I decided not to get legally married because the divorce laws are too unfair to men. Besides we can live as we're married without the government involved. So that means she doesn't have a legal right to that money. That is mitigated a little because we have a son and I put him as my beneficiary. Also if he is underage and she is his legal guardian she will get to manage that money on his behalf.
What I'm wondering is if I should tell her how to access that money in case I die or before I go into a nursing home or something. That way she could liquidate the money before anyone else can take it. I'm really trying to avoid her or my son having to go to probate court where if I have any debts they will take some of that money before she can.
I also think it's a good idea to tell her about it because we get a big income tax check because we have a child. So far I've been claiming him on my taxes and investing it. I figure that if she knows I'm not spending it that she won't be trying to fight with me to claim him herself.
I worked with nursing homes before so I know their scam is to claim the person owed them money and after they die to take their money in probate court. I also owe student loans and I know that if I die without paying it off they will come for their cut of the money.
So I'm hoping that when I die or end up in the hospital in a life threatening situation that she could simply take all the money out before anyone else can. Or if I end up in a nursing home I can go with no assets to my name that they could take.
I'm currently investing in a custodial account in my son's name. That way the money is legally his and creditors cannot take his money to pay my debts. I'm also investing in precious metals because that money exists off the grid. Even if they do know that I brought it, they don't know if I still have it. I told her semi jokingly several times that if anyone asks about it to tell them I spent it on cocaine and hookers or something.
The problem is that the prevailing logic to keep it secret from her does have a point. Because you do also need to protect that money from her as well. She could after all have her own plans for that money. Such as stealing it and running off. I don't have reason to think that, but in today's world you never know. Or she could simply demand we spend it on a vacation, or she could feel she doesnt have to contribute financially because we have money to fall back on.
So I'm curious to hear what you all think about this. If there's any married men I would like to hear your take on it.

My (ex) wife and I agreed to separate on January 23rd of this year (separation, we have not yet divorced). Since then, I have records of bank transfers proving I have sent her, as of today, $27,800 which includes covering her personal bills, children’s expenses and heour mortgage, as well as her pet’s needs. She has continued to ask for more money, threatening me that she will lose the house because I “will not” send more.
I had recently found out she is purchasing medical marijuana illegally with the help of her co-worker who uses his medical marijuana card to purchase it for her. This is happening with the money that I am sending her, while being told she cannot provide a home for my children unless I send her more.
When I moved out, about a week later her mother bought her a THIRD dog (which I firmly said we could not afford to do before I moved out). Not only has this of course already been a new financial blow for her, she is not caring for them at all. I still go to the house on most evenings when she is working to meet my parents who drop the kids off once I’m there after finishing my job. She is not feeding the dogs before she goes to work, saying I have to do it when I am there to take care of my kids, but on top of that, she is also not cleaning up multiple spots of feces and urine all over the back deck, which last time I was there, it was literally surrounding all of our kid’s toys/play area/slide etc.
As of last week I began addressing this to her and firmly letting her know that if she cannot take care of these kids, these animals and continues to make irresponsible decisions with the money I send her, I will have to take the kids. I am in no way threatening this, I am being as clear as I can with her to let her understand that I want her to do better and I want these kids to have us both in their lives equally (or kids are 5, 4 and almost 2). But this is just beyond disgusting and something has to give. She has refused acknowledge any of it, yet continues to ask me for more money. It is damn near scary behavior with how she is treating the situation.
A couple days ago I met with SPCA and animal control to get advice on what to do. I even let her know what I was doing to hopefully get her to understand how serious this is. The next day when I came to the house to watch the kids, the dogs were gone. She is now hiding them at her parent’s house when I am there while still refusing to acknowledge the situation at hand.
I already have a case number to file for a restraining order after she hit me months ago for recording even more questionable behavior (yes, I do take responsibility for not acting sooner and I will never forgive myself for that. I really wanted to believe she would change). I had planned on tomorrow contacting the officer to file the order, as well as try to work with CPS to get the kids out of the house and into mine. My hope was to just pick them up from my parents house and we go from there, depending on the direction and recommend of CPS to ensure it’s handled appropriately.
However, I come home tonight and there is a summons to court on my door from her requesting $3k in spousal support and and additional $1.5k in child support, which coincidentally is still less than I’ve already been voluntarily given her on average every month since the separation.
Any ideas or recommendations, I would truly appreciate it. I have absolutely everything documented, is it possible to go to the court tomorrow to show them what I have regarding all I mentioned above? I do not want my kids living in that environment any longer than they have to be and I purposely moved to a great place/area for them, assuming that eventually, I would have to step up one day.

then we had go to initiate reconciliation and after few rounds she comes back and this has been routine for all these years and she had done like this 3 times and we have hardly stayed together 2 years in 6 years of marriage... now, she went this time and I had taken a concrete decision and conveyed the same to my wife very adamantly that I will not initiate talks this time..
they went to sharia court.. 1 round of talks over..her family members are not wanting to continue but expecting me to divorce so they would get alimony and maintenance instead of they divorcing me.. sharia court could not handle within the stipulated appointment time given to us and asked us to come next week..
In meantime, my wife abused me a lot hurting with very very sensitive things knowingly that I would get hurt in WhatsApp and SMS chat. I had blocked her since then.. till date I or neither she spoken a word.
I wish to continue the marriage in spite of all hurting's she has done for sake of my daughter. let me be clear , I am also not perfect and agree to mistakes but it is not a great offence that should end marriage. her family members are highly egoistic ruining our marital life and she thinks they are not wrong in spite of general public acknowledge the fact that they are the ones who are problem makers..
now, ,my question is should I tell to sharia court that she has abused me or should keep quiet? the reason is if I tell that to public, then she may think that I have made her embarrassed in front of all and she may think to continue with me further [maybe I am wrong]... if in case, if I keep quiet, , she comes to me back & continue hurting with those words [ the reason why I think I should not be quiet]...

I really just wanted to get this story off my chest. I sought out help with some issues before on another account and but ended up deleting it because some people decided that they were green lit to brigade me with rather unpleasant messages. Sometimes I feel truly alone now.
I guess a bit of back story to start out.
I lived in a decent rental property out in a rural area in the SE U.S. I am a male, mid-30s at the time, divorced, decent job and all around not a bad life all things considered. I had family nearby and friends who seemed to care, and there was a woman in my life that seemed like we were a pretty good match for each other. This was back in 2019 right before the big covid epidemic really ramped up.
I had no idea it was all about to end.
At 3am on a thursday night, I was awoken to a loud knock on my door. I put on some slippers and looked out the peephole. There was a police officer standing there. I hadn't done anything illegal and had no reason to fear a police run in. My first thought was that something was wrong with someone in my family. I opened the door and he asked my name. I confirmed and he grabbed hold of me and yanked me out. More officers from around the corner pinned me to the wall and cuffed me. I asked what was happening and received a punch to the head for my troubles.
I was rather stunned and horribly confused. They drug me out to where they had parked, just out of the line of sight for me to see from my door. I was tossed into the car and eventually one of them got in and finally answered my question of what was going on.
I had been charged with rape and child molestation. He didn't tell me who charged me or when, just that there was a warrant out for my arrest.
I was hauled into the county jail at that point. I had never been arrested in my life and I was terrified. I didn't have my phone and couldn't remember anyone's contact information at the time. I was processed, given my mugshot, and put in a small holding cell.
Some time later I got my first appearance and was told my charges, no bail, I was warned not to talk to the judge or I'd regret it. Just answer his questions and sit down when told,
Then they moved me to a very small padded room. There were 4 or 5 police officers I think that moved me. It's a bit hard to remember this part in detail, but I remember enough. They handed me this small cloth vest and told me to strip naked. I had no idea what they were doing and I got really scared. I didn't get asked again. They held me down, ripped my clothes off, and beat the hell out of me right there. They shoved my face against a vent in the floor that served as the toilet. One of them remarked that was where a piece of shit like me belonged and they laughed. They spit on me and left, leaving that small vest laying next to me on the cold rubber floor.
For four weeks, I curled up under that vest in the corner of the room. It was so cold and I didn't dare let that spot cool down. The pain was terrible and the nurses that had to check on me didn't care what I'd went though. I didn't have back problems before that, but now I do. Some days I wake up now and can hardly walk.
I was finally moved to general population. I figured things were finally getting better. I was sure that whatever had started happening would finally be over. I got a message from my family and was able to contact them. I reassured them I had no idea what was happening or who had filed charges or anything. I was as confused as everyone else would be.
I tried telling my mom about the abuse. An officer came back there, told me point blank that if I didn't want to get it again and worse next time, I'd better shut my mouth. It was a threat I'd rather not test out. I kept my mouth shut at that point. I learned that all calls and mail was monitored by the jail.
I asked my mom to get in touch with the woman I'd been seeing to explain things. She's already messaged my mom and told her that she wanted nothing to do with me. I guess all things considered I ended up better off, but it hurt at the time.
A few weeks later, a public attorney had been appointed and came to see me. I was finally about to find out who was behind all this. I figured this was some sort of great big misunderstanding and I'd be home soon.
It was the neighbors daughter. Someone I barely knew and only spoke to in passing. I never touched this girl and I didn't want to either. She had told her parents that I had forced open her window and raped her in the early morning hours and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
I was 6'1 and 230lbs of pudding. I am not stealthy. There was no way I could quietly force open a trailer window and have my way with someone and keep it quiet. regardless though, that's what she claimed to her parents, and then to the police.
Why would that poor precious child lie? Very good question and I never found out the full story. I can speculate a few things on it. They did collect DNA evidence though and it had been sent off for testing.
Something to keep in mind. If you ever been in county lockup for any length of time, you know that nearly everyone claims innocence, and they don't believe other people are. I was locked into a dorm room with actual convicted child sexual predators and actual rapists. Some of whom were violent and had nothing to lose.
It wasn't pleasant and it wasn't fun. I was attacked on occasion simply for my charges.
And remember I said this was pre-covid? Yeah. They shut down the court system. They wouldn't be hearing my case for quite some time and the judge was a real hard ass that refused to set my bond. I spent the next 3 years in county lockup charged with a crime I did not commit.
3 years of my life gone.
I ended up firing my public defender and hiring a real defense attorney. the P.D. told me "things look pretty grim. If you just plea out, you can be home in about 10 years." Hell no. I borrowed the money from my family and got a real attorney. After he reviewed the case he was pretty positive I'd go home, and for a few good reasons.
Let's go to trial.
It finally happened. I got a trial date and I was ready to go. They came at me with another plea deal. The prosecutor said that I had wasted the states valuable time and they offered me 25 yrs in prison or I could lose and never see freedom. I told him to go pound sand.
At the trial, the alleged victim could not keep her story straight. She constantly backtracked and fudged the details of things like "What was he wearing?" or "Things he had said to you before." She also claimed to be a virgin and I took that from her.
I mentioned some time ago that they collected DNA. It was male, but it wasn't mine. Apparently the prosecution sat on those results until it was nearly time for trial. They knew I was innocent and let me sit in jail to entertain their plea deals.
I don't know what really happened that night, I suspect that she had sex with some guy she was seeing, They may have got into a fight and she cried rape, and then changed her mind after she'd started. She needed a rapist though and she just randomly chose a guy nearby that she didn't care anything about. Maybe she got in too deep and knew that if she backtracked she'd be in trouble.
I went home that day, found not guilty of all charges. I was thankful to be back with my family. Many of my so called friends abandoned me though. A few stuck around and those are the good ones.
My facebook arrest post had my full name and address and plenty of people wished for my death. "I'd be glad to put a bullet in him if they'd just let me" or "I know that guy. I knew there was something wrong with him the moment I met him."
I lost my home and a few things had been stolen before my family could secure it. Nothing irreplaceable I guess, but it still feels bad to of lost a few things I cared about.
In addition to severe back pain, the mental damage I got from this has been crippling. No matter how much I try, I just can't seem to get my life together. I am absolutely terrified of women as I know what just a few errant words can do. I don't think I could ever form another meaningful relationship because of those fears. I'm scared of the police as well. I fear they'll come after me again just like they did that night. They could kill me and get away with it these days.
Mostly I stay inside my moms house. Some days I'm ok. Others, I'm just so scared to go out. This isn't really a good life anymore. Counseling is somewhat helping at least.
There's no lawsuit that can be filed. The state doesn't have to answer for anything because they followed the letter of the law and the pandemic gave them emergency powers to do certain things. There's no lawsuit against the girl either as she never said it was made up. There's laws to protect her.
My life was ruined despite all charges being dropped. I honestly am not sure I can recover from this nightmare. There's plenty of details I left out, but I've talked enough as it is. I'm tired now. I expect people to call me a rapist or chomo anyways, innocent or not. For some, an accusation is enough proof for them.

Um where to begin. We have institutions that prioritize the wealthiest people above the average person. This can be seen with lobbying (which is somehow legal), supreme court justices being given lavish gifts by rich people even if their cases are being seen by the court, and horrible corporate regulatory agencies and use of tax revenue.
Another easy one:
Constant mergers and snowballing private equity value leading to the rich quickly getting more and more rich. In 1990 the top 1% held 17% of wealth, now it’s 26% as of 2023 (the top .1% hold 14% of wealth, with the average at 1.52 BILLION per household).
All the while the COL rises and the average american’s pay doesn’t keep up. I mean. What are we doing here?? I’ve resigned myself to giving up on a bright future. We are in the 2nd Gilded Age of US history. The rich and powerful have won and I, and every normal person am just going to have to live out the ride.
Y’all realize that their strategy is to turn normal working people against each other right? doesn’t matter what side you’re on, you can FEEL the polarization happening. So. Many. Fake. Claims. That just pisses off people to the other side even though the claims (on both sides) are almost entirely BS.
All the while the rich and powerful laugh and dine while they watch us squabble (or not, since y’know its obvious what they’re doing) and ignore the opulent lives they live at the expense of everybody else.
I ain’t rallying for no change/cause/political movement like I said. We’re doomed to shitty lives at the expense of a few having opulent ones. They’ve won (despite the obvious strategy) and grassroots change ain’t happening.

I'm reaching out to this community to seek legal advice and support in addressing the growing concern of widespread promotion and sponsorship of gambling apps, particularly in IPL. We need immediate action and here's why!

1. Fantasy gaming apps like My11Circle and MPL have become extremely popular in India, with millions of users. My11Circle boasts 40 million users, MPL has 90 million, and Dream11 leads with 180 million users.
2. These apps entice users with the promise of easy money but often lead to financial ruin. Cases of addiction are rampant, with many users, especially the youth, losing lakhs from their hard earned income.
3. There has been a surge in the number of individuals seeking help for gaming addiction. Clinics like the SHUT Clinic in Bengaluru report treating 20-22 patients weekly for gaming addiction, up from 3-4 patients per week in 2014.
4. Stories of financial devastation are common. For example, a 20-year-old in Kerala committed suicide after losing ₹5 lakhs, and a bank employee in Tamil Nadu killed his family due to mounting debts from online gambling​.
5. These apps are among the top advertisers during major sports events like the IPL. In IPL-16, fantasy gaming apps accounted for 18% of the advertising share​. In 2024, we have gone so low that these companies have become the title sponsor and are ruining the dignity of the sport.
6. Famous personalities, including cricketers like Virat Kohli, promote these apps, making them appear credible and enticing to young fans​.
7. The regulatory framework for online gaming in India is inconsistent and outdated. The Public Gambling Act of 1867 does not adequately cover modern online gambling platforms, leading to a legal grey area.
8. While some states like Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have banned online gambling, the enforcement is inconsistent, and many states lack clear regulations​.
9. The online gaming industry in India is booming, with revenues projected to reach ₹290 billion by 2025. However, this comes at a significant cost to each and every one of us.

If you’re a lawyer or know someone who can help, please suggest how to help voice this. The only people benefiting here are Government and the Shareholders of these fantasy sports companies. We cannot have these apps exploit our love for sports to promote harmful behaviours.

• Article 246(3): Grants state legislatures exclusive power to make laws regarding any of the matters enumerated in List II (State List).

Legal Precedents:

• Dr. K.R. Lakshmanan v. State of Tamil Nadu (1996): The Supreme Court ruled that horse racing is a game of skill, not chance, distinguishing it from gambling.
• State of Bombay v. RMD Chamarbaugwala (1957): This case differentiated between games of skill and games of chance, with the latter falling under the ambit of gambling.

Analysis of My11Circle Fantasy Cricket

• Users pay an entry fee to participate in fantasy cricket leagues. Winners are awarded cash prizes based on the performance of the real-life players they select.
• While selecting players and forming teams does require knowledge of the sport, player statistics, and strategic insights, the outcomes of these fantasy contests depend heavily on factors beyond the user's control. For instance, player injuries can occur unexpectedly, affecting performance. Weather conditions can alter match dynamics, and other unpredictable events during a game can impact results. These uncontrollable variables introduce a significant element of chance.
• The monetary stakes involved in these fantasy leagues make them akin to betting. When users pay to enter and win cash prizes based on uncertain outcomes, it closely resembles traditional gambling. Under the constitutional provisions and legal precedents, activities that involve monetary stakes and significant elements of chance fall under the definition of betting and gambling, which states have the authority to regulate or prohibit.

Analysis of Yes/No Opinion Trading on MPL

• This involves users predicting the outcomes of events (e.g., will a player score more than a certain number of runs) and placing monetary bets on these predictions.
• While users may use available information and trends to make predictions, the ultimate result is unpredictable. This reliance on chance over skill brings opinion trading within the ambit of gambling.
• Given the significant element of chance and the presence of monetary stakes, Yes/No opinion trading can be classified as gambling. The speculative nature of these bets and the uncertainty of outcomes align it closely with traditional betting activities, which are regulated under Entry 34 of the State List.

Hello! I’m married under the shariah law, and I’m in the process of getting a divorce. I know it’s a long process but I want to get a head start on the post-divorce arrangements for the kids.
I most probably will get shared custody because husband was not physically abusive and didn’t cheat on me with another woman.
I would love full custody as I’ve been financially supporting the family thus far, especially for the kids. But I heard that the shariah court doesn’t work that way. The father would always get the upper hand? I am also the one always there for the family while he sleeps (not exaggerating). But I’ve never heard of divorce cases where this is grounds for full custody.
So since I most probably will have to share the custody, what arrangements have worked for you and your ex-spouse? Help please! I’ve been cracking my brain and nothing has been favourable 😭

I've been in practice over 13 years. Spent the first 5 prosecuting and have been a contracted public defender with a private practice in criminal and family law for the last 8. I love public defense and private criminal defense. But I am spun the fuck out on family law. All of my adversarial skills that serve me so well in criminal work do nothing but destroy families in divorce cases. It's all wrong. Litigation is the absolute WRONG way to handle divorce, especially with kids involved. It's not our fault as attorneys, our job is to zealously advocate for our client. But that equates to ramping up the already heated parties in a divorce to war level anger. To where these people are spending $8000 in litigation fees over who is going to pay for the $80 cleats and $45 soccer ball (actual case of mine). Yeah it lines my pocket, but I feel like shit. Trials are the absolute worst. Even if my client "wins" what did we win? Oh, ok, we've succeeded in totally alienating the kid to hate Parent A and take Parent B's side. That kid is gonna grow up to have horrible habits/views/beliefs for his own marriage and children. After GAL visits and in camera interviews these poor kids are so traumatized and stuck in the middle, all because I filed the motions to place them there! Because my client promised the kid would talk shit about dad if I got him in front of the judge and the GAL. And little Johnny did just what mom's been programming him to do! (Flip the roles, the dad's are just as bad at brain washing kids). It doesn't feel good. It feels like shit. Mediation is a court ordered thing in my rural area. It's looked down on by the parties as extra money they have to spend before they can get to the courtroom to hammer the fuck out of each other. Because they believe that's what divorce is. Taking the relationship they had and destroying it. I took a mediation course from a tier one school and it has changed my life. My whole perspective. If it's done right mediation can change the game in family law. And if collaborative law is used by family law practitioners then it opens up something that can revolutionize family and divorce court. There are zero collaborative law practitioners in my entire geographic location. The nearest one is over 200 miles away. I will be the first in my area. And I have talked another attorney in the area into learning the collaborative process and doing this with me. So, next week I am shuttering my family law litigation practice and opening a mediation/collaborative law practice. For those of you familiar with this area, how is it going for you? Do you find that people will come to mediation even if it's not court ordered if word gets around that it works better than litigation? Those in the collaborative law realm, what has your experience been like? Do you get push back from those that want to keep litigation as the de facto way to practice family law? Looking for any perspectives as this is such a foreign concept in my neck of the woods. Thanks!!
