Previous event recap
Hyder Amil def. Fernie Garcia
Bogdan Guskov def. Zac Pauga
Max Griffin def. Jeremiah Wells
Marcin Prachnio def. Devin Clark
Loma Lookboonmee def. Bruna Brasil
Bolaji Oki def. Timothy Cuamba
Carlos Prates def. Trevin Giles
Rodolfo Vieira def. Armen Petrosyan
Michael Johnson def. Darrius Flowers
Gregory Rodrigues def. Brad Tavares
Ihor Potieria def. Robert Bryczek
Dan Ige def. Andre Fili
Jack Hermansson def. Joe Pyfer
Not really a good card for me. I was disappointed when Giles got knocked out since I thought he was winning the fight until then and I considered picking Prachnio but switched my pick after some consideration. I am just glad next 2 cards are not in the Apex
Betting record 2024: 23-21
Prediction record 2024 27-21
UFC 298 Predictions:
Main Card Predictions:
Featherweight: Alexander Volkanovski (c) vs. Ilia Topuria
Volkanovski has demonstrated exceptional skill, versatility, and resilience in his reign at the top of the featherweight division, with an impressive 5 title defenses. Arguably the GOAT of the featherweight division, Volkanovski has a great all around game and has either won by decisions or knockout punches in his UFC career. The biggest concern I have about Volk is his age and recent decision making. We know about the lopsided record 1-31 against fighters age 35 and above below the middleweight class against younger contenders and we will have to see if Volk can buck the trend. What is more worrying to me is him deciding to take on Islam Makachev on a short notice bout and then having a short turnaround against a dangerous fighter like Topuria as if he’s trying to ‘chase his losses’. Ilia Topuria is a dangerous contender with an undefeated record, 6 of them in the UFC. He has the knockout power to be able to put opponents away as well as strong grappling skills as his first 7 fights in his MMA career has ended with submission victories. I think Volkanovski should have taken more time off after his last fight to prepare against such a dangerous fighter and I would be more confident about picking Topuria if he was not so cocky and claiming on his social media that he is already the champion as I am not sure if he is coming to this fight being too overconfident.
Prediction: Ilia Topuria to win
Middleweight: Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa
Whittaker's technical striking, speed, and fight IQ have kept him at the top of the division. His recent losses has come to only the very best in the division in Israel Adesanya and DDP. Costa brings power and aggression but has shown vulnerabilities against high-level strikers, losing to Israel Adesanya and even struggling in his previous fight against a washed up Luke Rockhold. I can see Whittaker outstriking Costa on the feet as Whittaker's ability to manage distance with his longer reach and his superior conditioning could be the key to outlasting Costa in a fight that could go the distance.
Prediction: Robert Whittaker to win
Welterweight: Geoff Neal vs. Ian Machado Garry
Geoff Neal possesses powerful striking and finishing ability, with solid fundamentals. However, he can be vulnerable to technical strikers which Ian Garry is. Ian Machado Garry is an up-and-comer with a diverse striking arsenal and good fight IQ, but he does gets caught by punches in his fights. Ian Garry does love to troll his opponent just like his idol Connor does but the recent revelations about his private life has ironically subjected him to getting trolled on the internet himself and you wonder if it might affect his mental focus for this fight. Neal's power and experience might give him an edge in exchanges, potentially leading to a knockout. My prediction leans towards Neal due to his proven power and experience at a higher level of competition.
Prediction: Geoff Neal to win
Bantamweight: Merab Dvalishvili vs. Henry Cejudo
Merab Dvalishvili is known for his relentless pace, wrestling dominance, and cardio even if his striking technique is only passable. He has beaten high level fighters like Petr Yan and Jose Aldo previously which validates his status as a top level fighter in the bantamweight division. Henry Cejudo, a former Olympic wrestler and two-division UFC champion, excels in wrestling, striking, and fight IQ but has been inactive recently and is coming off a loss to Aljamain Sterling. I do think that Merab’s relentless takedown pressure will be very difficult for Henry to overcome even for the former Olympic gold medalist as the latter is no longer in his prime.
Prediction: Merab Dvalishvili to win
Middleweight: Anthony Hernandez vs. Roman Kopylov
Anthony Hernandez is versatile with strong grappling and submission skills but can be inconsistent in striking exchanges. Roman Kopylov boasts powerful striking and solid technical skills but has shown vulnerabilities on the ground and is taking this fight on a short notice. Hernandez's path to victory likely involves taking the fight to the ground and seeking a submission. Kopylov will aim to keep the fight standing, leveraging his striking advantage. This seems to be the kind of matchup that is unfavorable for Kopylov unless he has improved his takedown defense substantially and can avoid getting taken down.
Prediction: Anthony Hernandez to win
Preliminary Card Predictions:
Women's Strawweight: Amanda Lemos vs. Mackenzie Dern
Lemos is a decent and versatile fighter despite being dominated by Zhang Weili in her last fight which is not really a knock on her as Zhang would dominate many female fighters in her division too. Mackenzie Dern's world-class jiu-jitsu poses a significant threat to anyone if the fight hits the ground but I did not like her previous performance against Jessica Andrade when she was being knocked around the octagon as she was spinning around to her way to a knockout loss. I do not like this short turnaround as well as she is stepping in to fight just after being knocked out in December and this could be because of her financial issues from the messy divorce with her husband. Lemos is my pick to win here since I believe that Dern’s decision to take up this fight so soon after her knockout loss in December may be ill advised.
Prediction: Amanda Lemos to win
Heavyweight: Marcos Rogério de Lima vs. Justin Tafa
Marcos Rogério de Lima is coming off a brutal knockout by Derrick Lewis’ flying knee while Justin Tafa is a one dimensional knockout artist who relies on his power to win fights. De Lima has to quickly bring Tafa to the ground to have a path to victory here while Tafa needs to find the knockout quickly before his weakness on the ground is exposed. This fight might be a bit of a toss up and I am going to have to go with the underdog if it is going to be like a coin flip.
Prediction: Justin Tafa to win
Bantamweight: Rinya Nakamura vs. Carlos Vera
Rinya Nakamura is a hyped prospect from Japan with impressive grappling skills but I will not be betting on this fight because of the odds.
Prediction: Rinya Nakamura to win (not betting)
Early Preliminary Card Predictions:
Light Heavyweight: Zhang Mingyang vs. Brendson Ribeiro
Zhang Mingyang is a powerful striker with good knockout ability but has shown weaknesses in grappling and cardio. Brendson Ribeiro is a well-rounded fighter with a strong ground game and decent striking, though he lacks the finishing power of Zhang. These 2 fighters are making their UFC debut after their wins from Road to UFC and DWCS respectively. Brendson Ribeiro will be my pick here as I think he has more of a well rounded game than Zhang and while Zhang is dangerous in the first round, Ribeiro has a good chance to win if he can survive the round and control his opponent using his grappling.
Prediction: Brendson Ribeiro to win
Welterweight: Josh Quinlan vs. Danny Barlow
Josh Quinlan has a mixed start to his UFC career so far with 1 win and 1 loss in his career. Danny Barlow is making his UFC debut after a quick knockout win in DWCS. I believe Josh Quinlan is taking this fight on a short notice as Barlow was supposed to fight another fighter and the fight was cancelled. Barlow’s reach and striking skills could be the difference in this fight if the fight stays on the feet.
Prediction: Danny Barlow to win
Welterweight: Oban Elliott vs. Val Woodburn
Oban Elliott showcases promising versatility with sharp striking and a solid ground game but lacks experience at higher levels. Val Woodburn is known for his durability and grappling but may not match Elliott in technical striking. The fight likely leans towards Elliott if he maintains distance and utilizes his striking precision.
Prediction: Oban Elliott to win
Women's Flyweight: Andrea Lee vs. Miranda Maverick
Lee's striking and experience against Maverick's grappling and youth makes this matchup a clash of styles. Lee has lost 3 fights in a row and 6 out of the last 8 and I am not sure about her commitment to her MMA career these days. Miranda Maverick is a lot younger and a decent grappler I can she her taking down Andrea Lee and controlling her for most of the fight to get the decision or submission win.
Prediction: Miranda Maverick to win

2024.01.10 15:51 mttsoip Suggestions

Ok, I’m feeling a little lost. For years, I had acne, combination skin, dark eyes (allergies and genetics) and eczema. I started using Paula’s Choice resist line several years ago + skin perfecting bha and (overall) my skin stopped giving me problems. Then, I went through a divorce and feel like I aged exponentially by the day, and I moved to Idaho and my skin is SO DRY and more sensitive. On top of that, I spend tons of time outside (backcountry expeditions, skiing, kayaking, climbing) and the harsh winter is making it worse. I’m trying to be fairly pragmatic about skincare - it’s not realistic to have a super complicated set up for me (honestly it’s currently too stuff for my travel kit), but I also don’t want to peel constantly or break out.
Here’s what I was using: -Paula’s choice resist hydrating cleanser for dry skin -Paula’s Choice toner from the same line -Paula’s Choice aha from the same line or bha skin perfecting liquid, alternating as needed -Paula’s choice vit c eye cream -Paula’s choice resist serum -Paula’s choice restoring moisturizer spf 50 in AM and intensive repair cream in PM -Burt’s bees bb cream instead of foundation
Here’s what I switched to: -PC Calm ultra gentle cleanser (working so far) -PC Calm Milky toner -PC skin perfecting bha, only a couple times per week now. -PC resist serum (using this up still) -PC daily moisturizing lotion spf 30 in AM -aquaphor in PM -ilia spf 40 serum tint (not loving this but I think it’s bc my skin is already so dry)..
The aquaphor is a saving grace right now (for my entire body, too) and I’m tempted to cut some things out and go that route more (for cost and simplicity sake) but nervous. Idk. What would you do? 😅

2023.12.21 17:27 GaeTainn A look at Olympic Medalist Upsets and their prior medals

A look at Olympic Medalist Upsets and their prior medals
So, lately I was curious about Olympic upsets, and whether were was really some relative unknowns or something that against all odds managed to grab at least a Bronze at the Olympics. Quantifying “unknowns” is a bit hard if you weren’t there for the period in question, so I decided to look at whether all Olympic medalist had won a medal at a prior major competition, and compiled them all in a single google sheet. (This is what I do with my hands when I’m listening to a podcast in my free time, apparently). Although I restricted myself to the time the GPF was created until now, to give myself a framework. I was kinda surprised.
Conclusion, in the last 25 years, meaning since the GPF was established, the number of Olympic medalists who had not medaled at a prior major event (GPF, Euro/4CC, Worlds) is 0. And if we very specifically restrict the requirements to only the Olympic cycle prior, the only medalist with no major medals is Kaori Sakamoto, since her last major medal was Gold at 2018 4CC, which belongs to the previous Olympic cycle, and not the one she won her Olympic bronze. And even then, one could guess that Covid had an impact on the available medaling opportunities.
Maybe this is something of a fun fact more than anything really useful, but I thought it was somewhat interesting to know when it comes to Olympic assignments.
Everyone who has ever medaled at the Olympics had at least some level of reputation being built. Even athletes who didn’t have much opportunities, such as 15-year-old Alina Zagitova only coming on the scene in the Olympic season, collected enough major medals in that same season, as well as built a reputation in Juniors in the previous one.
If you want to look for yourselves, here is the link to the google sheet, and here embedded are images, although I don’t know how readable they are on Reddit. Next to each medal is the year they won it.
Pairs
Dance
Women
Men
Overall these tables I made are mostly a look at how each medalist built their reputation prior to the Olympic, based entirely on their results at major competitions (so no records, or any qualitative analysis), so each entry only has the medals relevant to that Olympic cycle. I made the maybe strange decision to use the Olympics as the cutting point, and add therefore the post-Olympics Worlds to the next cycle. It didn’t really affect results, but well. I also added Junior competitions, since it seemed relevant for new seniors such as Zagitova.
Since I already was there, I decided to give them a kind of numerical value of this reputation based on results, to see which medalist going in had the previous results to support them, and who was more of a long shot. A gold gave one 3 points, silver 2, bronze 1, and they all added up.
I don’t claim this is in any form objective or whatever, since it’s mostly a numerical look I did for myself to keep my hands busy, and it doesn’t at all analyze the period of time or the competitive environment, or skaters taking seasons off, etc. Juniors and Euros/4CC have probably too much weight here. If you see any mistakes, please let me know. You guys seemed a little bit interested in it, so, I thought I might share with you. I actually would love to see if any of you had any insight on the competitive environments depicted here.
But anyway here’s some highlights:
Least points going in for gold:
  • Sarah Hughes (7)
  • Ilia Kulik (12)
  • Savchenko/Massot and Kazakova/Dimitriev (11)
  • Virtue/Moir in 2018 (13)
Least for Silver:
  • Sasha Cohen (9)
  • Evgeni Plushenko in 2010 (6)
  • Stolbova/Klimov (3)
  • Lobacheva/Averbukh (7)
Least for Bronze:
  • Kaori Sakamoto (0)

2023.11.04 00:56 Jimmy-Shumpert Ending the discussion on FRWBY

This post will be the one to put an end to the discussion surrounding FRWBY once and for all, much like how World War I was the war to end all wars. Let's start with the basics.

What is FRWBY?

FRWBY (aka, fixing rwby) is a fan-made series created by the YouTuber Celtic Phoenix (in collaboration with other YouTubers and artists) in 2017. The idea behind this series is to retell the plot of RWBY with minimal changes (in most cases) to address some of its problems, such as the characters and the plot.
If you were expecting me to mention that the series is the incarnation of Satan on Earth created by Soulflayer the Abhorrent, the war criminal leader of the Orphangrinders warband, I don't blame you. The way people refer to this fan project can be exaggerated (so far, I've seen dozens of exaggerated negative comments, with only one praise that could be considered exaggerated. Don't act as if fans and haters are balanced). This is not "biased"; it's a FACT. look it up if you want

CHANGES

Let's see what changes are made compared to the show, along with my assessment of these changes:
- Characters: The main changes made regarding the characters can be categorized as follows:
  1. Changing the roles of certain characters at certain moments, like giving the Malachite twins the role of Neo as Cinder's companion, having Yang listen to Blake's backstory instead of Sun, and having Roman take on the role of Oscar. These changes are a good idea, as they effectively enhance the relationships between the characters and the moments in most cases (it makes more sense for Blake to explain it to Yang than to Sun, who is a Faunus).
Regarding the rest:
- Roman: By far, the biggest change compared to the original series. Celtic explained it as a way to eliminate the bloat character by not introducing Oscar, who, according to his words (with which I agree), is basically a placeholder for Ozpin. Now, I believe that in 99% of cases, there are no bad premises, only bad executions. The original ideas of RWBY (Adam as an abusive ex of Blake, Bumblebee, the relics and the maidens, etc.) could have worked if they had been implemented differently. So, I don't necessarily think that Oscar can't work (though I understand why he was removed; after all, it's easier to just insert Ozpin into an established character). I also don't think it can be objectively said that Roman as Ozpin's vessel is a bad idea or that Jaune as Ozpin's vessel would necessarily have been better (by the way, I love how the people who propose this also complain that Celtic takes away the spotlight from Team RWBY and probably also complain about Jaune as a self-insert in fanfics).
According to an artist from the show, the reason for choosing Roman was to show that Ozpin was morally gray and shady, which is a good idea. If it had been a character like Jaune or Oscar, we would have wondered why someone who messed up so much (a strong contender for the "local man ruins everything" award against the ancestor of Darkest Dungeon) ended up in the body of a cinnamon roll.
Some people say that Roman doesn't work in FRWBY because the audience wouldn't care if he suffers because he's a criminal who did bad things and hurt people. With all due respect, that's stupid. No one who has been on the internet for more than 5 minutes can seriously believe that "if a character did bad things, the audience wouldn't care if bad things happen to them." When Vergil from DMC5 is right there! (He killed more people than Hitler, and we still love him. save Vergil, the best character in the whole saga).
Furthermore, context and comparison are everything. In Star Trek, the Tau would be seen as the villains, but in 40K, they are the ultimate good guys (but not as good as my Commander, Farsight, the only true hero in the whole setting, he knows how to rebel, unlike the damn Horus Lupercal who turned evil just because he got stabbed with a knife, LOL, imagine being a war god handcrafted by BIG E and losing to an old guy with AIDS).
In other stories, Roman would be a total villain, but in FRWBY, when compared to the rest of the cast, he falls more on the side of good. He has more in common with the protagonists than with the villains. He's just a selfish criminal (Neo is the exception) looking to make easy money, criticizes the White Fang lieutenant for killing Tucson, and when he has Ruby captured, he tells Neo that he's not sure what to do with her instead of just killing her (which the other villains, except for Hazel and Emerald, would have done). Compared to Salem (seeking genocide), Adam (seeking genocide), Cinder (large-scale terrorist), Tyrian (SIMP), etc., he's almost a saint. Heck, if you push me, I'd even say that Ozpin did worse things, like hiding Salem's existence from the world or using child soldiers to fight his ex-wife in the longest and bloodiest divorce in history.
The existence of NEO is to show us that Roman is more than just a selfish person willing to do anything for money, he genuinely cares for those he appreciates (similar to Kingpin's mother in the Daredevil series on Netflix). In the V2 finale, there's a whole point about how he identifies with Ruby by seeing his younger self in her.
As a coup de grâce to this "argument," I remind you that we have characters like Han Solo, Jack Sparrow, Deadpool, etc., and people still love them. Continuing with Roman, I like his implementation. It's not that I consider Oscar as Ozpin's vessel necessarily a bad idea, but Roman generates interesting interactions with the characters by forcing them to Work with someone who used to be their enemy and because he is basically a foil for Ruby, a "what if" of what she could become if her idealism is shattered by a harsh reality that makes her cynical and apathetic.
Malachite sisters: I'll discuss this in the criticism section; they are basically NEO.
2) Giving more development to background characters and changing the motivations of the characters and their relationships: I'll talk about this when we touch on the bloated cast, but it could be said that Celtic takes a constructive approach. Instead of just cutting characters from the story (as some propose), he gives them more importance, weight, and development, reducing the bloat cast to some extent. Tucson gains more development and screen time, Blake's parents are better fleshed out, and we learn more about their backgrounds. The same goes for Ilia's change of heart. The White Fang lieutenant appears more (still nameless) and has some interesting interactions with Roman. Hazel's motivation makes much more sense than in the original (though to be honest, a thousand times zero is still zero). Sienna not only appears for 2 seconds to die but her role as a leader controlling Adam is felt. Nora had issues with Pyrrha, and then she discovered that Pyrrha saw her as a sister (I know I know, It's mentioned forward). Team JNR has the opportunity to meet Pyrrha's parents (parents, in the plural, not just the mother appearing for 1 second, leaving it unclear whether she's a ghost or not). Cardin has developed where he understands that his racist views are, in fact, a farce. Ironwood provides prosthetics to everyone who was injured during the fall of Beacon, not just Yang (in this house, we stand for Ironwood; v7 and v8 were a fluke). It explains how Cardin bullied Velvet and why the others didn't intervene. Team CVFE becomes mentors to Team RWBY in a way, helping them and appearing for more than 30 seconds for a great action scene and then disappearing. It's really a lot. Raven is much better done in FRWBY (no appearing in v10 as if nothing happened). Do you remember Ciel? Here, she's Penny's guardian.
And of course, Vernal, my God, Vernal. If Adam is the best embodiment of RWBY's flaws (great design, great concept, great potential, totally wasted due to a lack of direction and purpose), Vernal is the embodiment of what's best in FRWBY. They took a character who was less than a cardboard cutout (a piece of cardboard with a silhouette drawn on it that they didn't even bother to cut), which had a forgettable design, no development, and minimal interactions, and they developed it into a new character with relationships with other characters, development, and depth. When Vernal died, I felt something, and every time I remember Raven and the Branwen tribe when I think of Vernal, I will think of the one from FRWBY... because I can't even remember what the RWBY version looked like.
even those who don't like the show agree
But not everything is good; I'll comment on this later, but there are still characters who don't contribute anything, like the rest of Team CRDN or the other 2 guys from Team SSSN (changing the name to Season was a great but subtle idea) who are neither Neptune nor Sun; they could have been cut, and it wouldn't have changed anything.
Adam:
Adam is what's wrong with RWBY-made flesh. We have Vergil's design in black and red with Jetstream Sam's moveset and Magneto's motivation, mentor to Blake, leader of a terrorist cell fighting for equality. The potential is as high as Michael Jordan after a meeting with Snoop Dogg.
...and they butchered him. He doesn't fight for the rights of his people; he's just an abusive ex-boyfriend. He's not a threat. Blake one-shots him. Yang doesn't suffer when facing him (she threw a bike at his face; shaky hands don't count as PTSD if you face the guy who made it easy for you to cosplay as Nero). He didn't even get to interact with Weiss! The Schnee! Heir to the family that marked his face permanently and sought to redeem her family's name!
In FRWBY, he's much better done. His design is amazing (forget the vest; the red coat with the black rose and the white bandage over his eyes is great). He maintains his initial motivation until the end. He's a real threat from the beginning to his death (let's ignore when he got one-shotted by an old lady with a cattle prod), and he does get to face and interact with all of Team RWBY. He's so well done that he received the highest honor a fictional character can have; he got his own BURY THE LIGHT.
Oh, and the relationships and motivations are so well done, Ruby is friends with Pyrrha. Pyrrha is friends with Penny and has more reasons to like Jaune, Cardin relationship with Velvet (according to Celtic, the only ship between those two is FRIENDship but we all know the truth). Ghira and Kali really feel like a couple and Blake's parents. Blake's fear of losing herself in her emotions and not knowing when she crossed a line, etc. Team RWBY really feels like... well, a team.
Other changes:
Bumblebee is better developed; now I believe they'll end up together.
Yang's trauma is much better handled; it comes back repeatedly instead of going from traumatized to not at all.
The story of Ozpin and Salem, the gods, everything is much better told and explained; none of Salem somehow convincing humans to unite against the gods (that was so stupid; I still can't believe it happened).
V5 is incomparable to the original series; it's like comparing the Argentine national futbol team to the French "national" futbol team (damn the French for what they did during the World Cup and for things like the Maginot Line; the only good things they've produced are Polnareff and the Spy from TF2).
Oh, and they arrived in Atlas without committing a crime; it's also important to highlight that.

Proper Critique

Well, time to get my hands dirty.
Lack of foreshadowing:
I won't deny that there are moments when things come out of nowhere, specifically, Nora having a problem with Pyrrha taking all the glory, Adam killing his own men (Celtic later explains it, and it makes sense, but it should be a bit clearer in the show why he kills them). There are also somewhat anticlimactic moments, like every time Adam "stands there menacingly" waiting for Characters stop talking and notice it like a child waiting to tell their mother they wet the bed or like when Cordovin finished off Adam by hitting him with an electric prod (not only does it make very little sense that Adam had more trouble with Team RWBY than with an old lady with an electric stick, it also takes away the tension of defeating the BBEG of this arc so easily).
It sticks too closely to the original.
FRWBY aims to be a faithful adaptation, but sometimes it works against it. Volume 5 was one of its best volumes, and it was where it deviated the most from the original series, and that's NOT A COINCIDENCE. By sticking too closely to the original show, it also retains some of its flaws, such as secondary characters without a purpose or filler (as mentioned before, the rest of Team CRDN and the other two members of Team SSSN who aren't Sun or Neptune). The entire Salem and Ozpin-related plot (executed better but still somewhat of a silly origin given the attitude of the gods) and, to be honest, Malachite is filler (so far) and doesn't contribute much. Therefore, almost every flaw in RWBY can be attributed to FRWBY, albeit to a lesser extent, but it's still there (for example, the lack of foreshadowing or the character bloat).
Question: When is it criticism, and when is it "I would have done it differently"?
This not only applies to FRWBY but also to RWBY and many other works. When a critique like "it didn't take advantage of this element" or "it didn't do X" is actually just "I would have done it differently"? When we say about RWBY that "Adam never meets Weiss in person" is a valid critique because he literally has the company's mark on his face, he hates her family, and Weiss aims to redeem her family's name. But "I would have put Darksun instead of Bumblebee" is a valid critique of FRWBY? Or just a personal preference? All the ideas of Roman being Ozpin's vessel fall into this category, as well as everything Novel Assistant would do (basically using THE HAND for everything), or this Tumblr post (link) that basically criticizes the White Fang for not being the KKK (again, what he would have done).
So, since I can't genuinely say that some of my gripes aren't just personal preferences, I would say that the two most valid criticisms are the ones mentioned earlier.
The FNDM
Ending the absurd debates once and for all
Faunus heat cycle
Mentioned only once in a livestream and never mentioned again in the series. To believe that mentioning it is a valid critique is like believing that calling the Stormcast Eternals "Sigmarines" is a valid critique.
Roman is Celtic's Phoenix self-insert
No, he is not. I don't know why everyone and their mother believe this, but it's not the case. Even if he were, it wouldn't be a valid argument BECAUSE A CHARACTER BEING A SELF-INSERT DOESN'T NECESSARILY MAKE IT BAD. Watch the series.
Character bloat
Yes, it's true that some characters are superfluous (I see you, the rest of Team CRDN, and whoever the other 2 guys from Team SSSN are), but to a lesser extent than in RWBY.
The name
Okay, this IS a valid point. The name "Fixing RWBY" sounds very pretentious, it delivers what it promises (point mentioned later), but I agree that it can be interpreted as arrogant, pretentious, and insulting to the original show. It's not the case, but I understand... By the way, how does that affect the show? It could be called "Ruby is crap, and I have a third leg," and the pretentious name wouldn't affect the quality of the show at all (seriously, it has considerable flaws, stop criticizing the name and criticize what matters).
Ren being mistaken for a woman , the onsen scene, and Roman taking Ruby to a strip club
It was just a joke with no intention to offend, there was nothing sexual, and there was nothing sexual... seriously, how can people complain about this?
FRWBY delivers what it promised
FRWBY sells itself as "Ruby, but better," and it is, it's "Ruby, but better." All of RWBY's flaws? Either they don't exist or they exist to a lesser extent. It gives us everything we asked for from the original show: interesting character interactions, Adam meeting Weiss and Ruby, and better world-building... But here's the problem: FRWBY seeks to be better than RWBY, but that bar is very low. Therefore, many times it can feel like it falls a bit short. Yes, Adam is better developed, but his interaction with Weiss and Ruby is minimal. Yes, Bumblebee is developed, but it's still a ship with somewhat weak chemistry. Yes, the Salem and Ozpin story makes more sense, but the gods are still foolish, etc. However, criticize it all you want; it's still better than RWBY. It's not perfect, and one could even argue that it's not good, but it's better than RWBY.

My personal opinion and a thank you to Celtic Phoenix.

This is just my personal opinion.
I first encountered RWBY several years ago, watched it continuously until volume 6, and then I dropped it. Not just the series but everything related to RWBY in general. I stopped following the fandom, looking for news about the series, reading fanfics or comics, etc. Over the years, I developed other interests, like Undertale, Metal Gear Rising, Warhammer 40K, and many others. However, there was always a part of RWBY in me, in the way each character had their colors, in the way the weapons were a combination of various weapons, etc. Eventually, I decided to do some research, see how everything was going, and if anything had changed. That's where I found FRWBY.
I sat down to watch it without expecting much... and I ended up watching the entire series in just 5 days. When I finished... you know how when you finish watching a series that really resonates with you, you feel empty? I didn't feel empty; I felt full, healed. At that moment, I realized that FRWBY was everything I didn't know I needed. For years, I had been carrying around a wound in my soul, a wound caused by unfulfilled expectations and the promise of wasted potential. FRWBY healed that wound. Watching that series made me reconnect with RWBY, not the series, movies, or novels but RWBY as an idea, as a concept.
I returned to the subreddits, watched comic dubs, followed artists, and I even have a Word document where I write about RWBY... it has 219 pages. That's why I want to say thank you, Celtic. Thank you, Sketchy Huntsmen. Your work made me fall in love with RWBY again.
Okay, but seriously, holy crap, Celtic Phoenix has the patience of a saint. No matter how much crap people throw at him, he remains polite despite everything. I don't know how the hell he does it, but it's impressive (again, it's a fact, look at his Reddit profile).

Absurd Analogy to Conclude

One day, while you're on the internet, you come across a project. It's the base for a car, and you're interested, so you decide to see what they have done. You watch the first 3 parts, and they're good; they have potential, and you want to see where it's going. But as they release more and more parts, you start to become disappointed and angry. They make ridiculous and nonsensical decisions, don't take full advantage of their potential, contradict what they said before, etc. After the fiasco of part 9, you give up; it seems like they won't even finish it. You decide to cut your losses and move on... One day, you come across someone who tells you about a similar project, a fan of the original project who decided to make their own version of the same car. You decide to take a look and see what they came up with... The result isn't perfect; heck, you could even say it's not great, but it's made with a passion that reminds you of the early days of the original project... and it's everything you've always wanted... and that's enough.

2023.06.29 17:42 ClaireDacloush Since we're discussing LGBT RWBY Characters, and its pride month? Let's hear people's thoughts on the large number of LGBTQ characters we have in RWBY's roster.

Blake Belladonna (bisexual and voiced by a bisexual VA)
May Marigold (transgender and voiced by a trans VA)
Shion Zaiden from IQ (non-binary)
Yang Xiao Long (sapphic, orientation not confirmed)
Saphron Cotta-Arc (sapphic, orientation not confirmed)
Terra Cotta-Arc (sapphic, orientation not confirmed)
Ilia Amitola (lesbian)
Coco Adel (lesbian)
Scarlet David (gay)
Nolan Porfirio (mlm)
Carmine Esclados (lesbian-coded)
Little/Somewhat (non-binary)
The Curious Cat (non-binary)
Ruby (Asexual-coded)
Then there are characters that are implied to be LGBT either in canon content or side content like RWBY Chibi (see: Velvet in the novels when it was teased but not confirmed that she used to have a crush on Coco back at Pharos Academy, and when in Chibi they went on a date—or Cinder implying that she hasn't tried but wouldn't mind dating women but then again that's just Chibi so it doesn't count.)
Of course we also have headcanons on Twitter for characters like Jaune or Sun as Bi (Seamonkeys) or "Entire Team" Taiyang, and the "divorce couple" Rosebird ship.
I think its amazing that RWBY has so many LGBTQ characters overall, and I'm still looking for some good fanfics exploring it all.

After the recent coaching changes I started wondering abt coaches in general. I know Yuzuru is usually popular for being Orser's student but didn't he learn his amazing jump technique from a Japanese coach? Does that coach train anyone else atm? It would be great if more ppl were taught good technique it's hard to unlearn these things when you're older. Anyways I wanted to shortlist some popular high level figure skating coaches for singles skaters plus a few of their notable students for the ones who aren't very well known.

2022.12.14 10:26 Due_Foundation912 AITA for restricting my step sons brother to stay at my home

I (F35) am married to Jack(M41) for a little over a year and together for over 3 years. Together we have Tia(F1). I have Ilia(F8) from my previous marriage. Jack has Mike (M11)from his previous marriage. Mike has an older half brother Rob(M15) who Jack did help raise for the first few years of his life and who he did continue to see after he divorced his ex wife. The reason for their divorce was due to infidelity on her end throughout the time they were engaged and the one year they were married including when she was pregnant with Mike. Mike and Rob do not always have the best relationship and in my opinion goes well beyond normal sibling rivalry. Recently Mike has been spending more time at our home, including a year and a half that he was primarily with us due to some issues with his mother, during this time Mike was undergoing weekly counseling and therapy to help him with the anger he was feeling and the numerous life changes he was undergoing. Mike has told us that Rob is a trigger for his anger and anxiety so we told him that our home is his safe place and his brother does not have to come over unless he is ok with it. Recently Mike and Rob had an extended weekend with us, because their mother was going out of town and Rob did not want to stay with his grandparents. Everything was going well, but Rob started harassing Mike along with Ilia. We told him if he needed a break away from the younger kids that’s fine, but he shouldn’t be treating anyone the way he was especially an 8 year old and an 11 year old. He then made comments about Ilia’s father which is a sore subject with her, because he often bails on her. He also mentioned to Ilia that Jack is not her father and she shouldn’t call him dad.
It also should be noted in the year that Mike was living with primarily myself and Jack that Rob also made similar comments to Mike that he shouldn’t call me “mom”, because I’m not his mother and I won’t last. We told Mike that he can call me whatever he is comfortable with just as long as it wasn’t derogatory or an insult; same with Ilia and what she wanted to call Jack.
After two days of the extended weekend Mike came up to myself and Jack and made sure he was staying the two extra days like he was promised. We told him of course unless he wanted to go back to his mothers. He said no, but he didn’t want Rob to stay. Jack spoke with him privately and then called his ex and discussed it with her. His ex did come and pick up Rob, who ended up being very upset and was cursing and crying. He kept stating “it wasn’t fair and if it wasn’t for her and her daughters I could have stayed.” Obviously I’m the her he was speaking of and if he wants to blame me I’m fine with that so that way he doesn’t blame his younger brother. I just want to know if aita for keeping the promise to Mike that our home is is safe place and having his older half brother leave.

These come along with nine unlocked episodes of "Beyond Oak island" (Season 1, Episodes 1-8; Season 2, also with eight episodes, is now all locked up except for Episode 7 on Pancho Villa). The eighth episode has finally been listed for Season 2: "Peter Easton's Plunder", aired March 15: "Rick Lagina and Matty Blake brave the waters of Newfoundland with diver Tony Sampson and a team to look for sunken treasure connected to the notorious pirate, Peter Easton." It was apparently substituted for "The Riches of Poverty Island" (a BOI follow-up of Season 1, EpIsode 7) featuring Marty and Matty Blake at Michgan's Poverty Island (previously scheduled for that date). Although that title may have been aired somewhere at some point (as it was listed as available for purchase on YouTube), that offering may have been before a programming switch. Might instead air in BOI Season 3, if there is a third!

LIST OF COMING 'COOI' EPISODES: APR 26 (#24) "On the Road" (9:00pm); MAY 3 (#25) "Treasure Island" (Season 9 finale).
RATINGS ROUNDUP: "The Curse of Oak Island" has lost around a million viewers since the end of Season 7. At that point (2019-20), average viewership was around 3.5 million; after Season 8 (2020-21), it had averaged only around 2.85 million; currently (filmed 2021, aired 2021-22) it has descended to a prolonged 2.5 million level, with a current marginal uptick. The number for episode 22 was 2.64, bringing the average for Season 9, Epsodes 1-22 to 2.805. The count for #23 was 2.73, dropping the average for all 23 episodes to 2.7675. All that's not to say the ratings are bad for COOI; for their market, they're still doing very well, but simply dropped a million watchers from their heyday. A descent to something like 1.5 would spell trouble. Easy solution: find some treasure!
On only two occasons has the viewership of "Beyond Oak Island" exceeded a million viewers (Season 2, Epsodes 14 (1.39) and 15 (1.21). That average for the two comes to 1.3 million viewers.

END OF SEASON 09
There were 24 episodes of COOI in Season 8, ending on MAY 4, 2021. Indications from History so far were that there would be only two more episodes following "Yes We Can" (#22, APR 12). These were be aired on APR 19 and 26, the last of which ("On the Road") was at first thought to be the end of Season broadcast. Now it appears as though an as yet unnamed episode of COOI (the season finale) will air at 9:00pm on MAY 3, flanked by three 8:00pm episodes of "Drilling Down": "The Freemason Factor" (MAY 3); "Always Forward"; (MAY 10); and "The Ultmate Answers" (MAY 17). Further details on episode #25 to follow when announced. Will it be 'Siempre avante' or 'Sine die'?

REVISITNG THE SMITH'S COVE 'G STONE'
Yes, the fabled 'G' Stone' was first found in Smith's Cove, the apple-of-my-eye location for the first treasure discovery that will hopefully be made on Oak Island (Laginas willing). Can't say when that might occur (out of my hands), but I've been ranting about it continuously for at least a year now. Longer?! Remember this? Barrels stacked on their sides (center screen at 2:42-2:56) ?
The Curse of Oak Island: COLLAPSED 200+ YEAR OLD TUNNEL REVEALED (Part 1) (Season 7) History - Bing video
On many occasions in my research, the inexhaustible writer I've assumed to be Sir Francis Bacon ('H' for short) states that the fondest wish arising from his visit in 1606 to an oddly-shaped island---he called it 'Nova Ilium' (New Troy, also spelled as 'Ileum', 'Ilia' and 'Ilea'---in a large Canadian bay along the northern 45th parallel (or thereabouts; Bacon's "New Atlantis" suggests the southern 45th parallel in its opening line "We sailed from Peru...."!) was that the three tons of ingots in the northeastern cove be the first cache to be unearthed. (Long story as to why that was his wish.)
The cache consists of ninety bars weighed out in 'long tons' (i.e., each ton weighs 2240 pounds or 35,840 ounces; 107,520 ounces total). With gold prices lately running at around $1900.00 an ounce, that's $68,096,000.00 per ton, and $204,288,000.00 for three tons (perhaps less, dependng on the karat purity). Think maybe a return to the spot they visited in Season 7 might be worth the expense? Marty voiced the intention to do just that, but it is Rick's project overall and Marty's usually very deferential when it comes to what to do next.
A bit of glee on Marty's part was evident in the last two episodes, however: in "Yes We Can" he remarked that, with his big brother off to Portugal, he was free to dig wherever he liked; in "Follow the Cobblestone Road" he commented to Gary about his "little brother" status and his desire to find something important on his own (and apparently wave it under Rick's nose when he returns). All in good fun, to be sure.
The 'G' found on the Oak Island stone, of course, has heretofore been assumed to be associated with Freemasonry (a 'G' is fixed in the center of many Masonic depictions of the Compass and Square, symbol of 'the Builders'). Now, the letter carved in stone appears to have been left on the island for a different purpose (not necessarily one divorced from accepted possibilities like 'God', 'Geometry' and 'Great Architect of the Universe').
According to this four-line sequence of rhymed couplets from The Hunting of the Snark by Lewis Carroll (first edition, pp. 32-33), the 'G' stone alerts us to the presence of 'G': the gold in Smith's Cove! (There is another use for 'G' in the source narrative, the discussion of which will be left to a later time). Here's the source passage (1) and the anagram (2), along with the usual link to the Wordsmth anagram tester. You can test the four lines separately (they're divided by the slash marks (/)) or all at once. Same result: "A Valid Anagram!"
(1) "It is this, it is this---" "We have had that before!" The Bellman indignantly said, / And the Baker replied "Let me say it once more, "It is this, it is this that I dread!" / "I engage with the Snark---every night after dark---In a dreamy delirious fight: / I serve it with greens in those shadowy scenes, And I use it for striking a light:
(2) H's N.E. mast ingot is at seventy feet in 'I' H hid Ilia's hilt (withal bard bathed). / I tie tier at hook beach addend. My impress? It attests H is 'tilted' linear heir! / My 'King's Ingot' is a rightful reward earned thee; think a 'Re'! Verify H data (i.e.: 'G')! / Heir refers to the gold ('G') shines hid straw in ten kegs (was in 'I' N.E. 'U' cavity). So it is!
Internet Anagram Server : Anagram Checker -- check for valid anagrams (wordsmith.org)
The ingots south of Rick's 'tusk' (shoal mast) are seventy feet down (Billy's long-reach excavator was a 74-footer). Bacon would often hide in the eye of the shaft leading to the vault to get some privacy, and he also bathed in the SC tidewaters (i.e.: at the edge or 'hilt' of the uplands beach).
/ Bacon tied the eight-foot-high tier of kegs with rope (it was tilting) and used it as a symbol of his own fate (being 'unseated', as at a tourney of knights): he was a disinherited heir (long story). If you're a student of the more speculative 'unorthodox' Baconian literature, you'll understand the reference. Consider the hint provided by the 'skull stone' discovered by Fred Nolan at the center of Nolan's Cross, which features a 'short sword' inscribed in its surface. Ever hear of the legend of King Arthur being the 'rightful heir' to the English throne because he alone could remove Merlin's 'sword in the stone'? Sir Francis Bacon was quite short in stature, and so would have carried a very short sword. Ergo, ....figured out the 'unorthodox' notion many Baconians have entertained about Bacon? Here's the puzzled reaction of the team to the 'skull stone' (as Bacon calls it in my sources):
The Curse of Oak Island: NOLAN'S CROSS LEADS TO TREASURE (Part 1) (Season 4) History - YouTube
/ Bacon's reward for the decipherer of his story is a 21-inch gold ingot weighing about 100 pounds and hidden....somewhere (and, yes, there are directions). 'Re' is Italian for 'King'. The verse in the book of Proverbs (25:2) which explains this Biblical reference has already been mentioned in a previous weekly post. It was one of Bacon's favorite maxims. Why do you think 'concealment' was such an intriguing topic of interest to him? Hmm. Curiouser and curiouser. Did he hide something?
/ Bacon (a guess; no proof!) closes with a promise of truth and an urgng to hoist the treasure.
Would you take him up on the offer if you were Rick, Marty and Craig? Sometimes the comfortable armchair approach to finding clues to historical puzzles can be more productive than relying solely on 'scientifically-deduced evidential data'. Yes, 'muography' (muon tomography) will likely eventually identify all the tunnels and cavities on Oak Island (over a period of a decade or so!), but why not check out the locations already pinpointed....tomorrow!
Theorizing is fascinating stuff to pursue, but is dismissed as 'kookery' by some few who usually have no other thought-based alternative to advance themselves. As for the empty vessels, you can spot them readily from flippant remarks like this: "Easily done when you make up the knowledge as you go along. Piss off, prospero_douche." Ay, there's the rub: "The scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy to him that understandeth."

2021.12.29 22:11 OfAshes [WP] After your sister was murdered, your dad became a supervillain, gone insane with grief. Your mom became a superhero, in hopes to protect the city so something similar won’t happen again. You just want your parents back.

She burst into the building, black hair flying and catching the light like a night sky, a million stars. Using her power always made her look this way, alight with something beyond my understanding, shining eyes revealing the brilliant light within her. I remember when she used to sit at my bedside, making the sparks dance as I watched with wide eyes. I loved it more than any bedtime story, more than any smile she gave me.
I miss it, but I think I miss the smiles more. The way she'd do it unconsciously, as if happiness was the natural state of things. I raise my hand and she freezes with the rest of the world, time stopping itself at my command. Quickly, I make my way out of my hiding place in the wall, past her outraged expression, past the anger I can still feel radiating off my father.
Then I lock the doors.
It would be hard for someone else to trap the two of them, but I know their power sets inside out. Their strengths, their weaknesses, everything. This building has been specially modified to contain them, to combat their incredible powers, mom's electricity, dad's speed. Once I've secured the building, I slip back into the shadows and time restarts with a flick of my fingers.
They begin yelling immediately. Because of course they do. Words overlapping, voices straining so high I have to cover my ears.
"Where do you have Ilia?" My mother screams, electricity already crackling at her fingertips. "You think you can my daughter against me?" he howls at the same time, hand resting on his sword. "To think you can just forget what happened to Annabelle!" they scream at the same time, sudden silence spreading out between them like a stain.
In the eerie stillness of their rage, all I can hear is their heavy breaths, worry and fear and, most of all, rage, spilling out in their words and movements. Then, simultaneously, their eyes snap up from the floor and meet each other, minds slowly comprehending the other's words.
"You..." my father starts, rage replaced by confusion, if only for the moment, "...didn't take her?" my mother finishes, electricity disappearing as she lowers her hands. "Then where is she," she says after a breath, panic written all across her features. "Where is she?" she repeats. The words twisted a knife deep into my heart, and I almost felt sorry for the pain I was causing my parents.
I saw her like this once before, when Anna died. Everything was fine one moment, then panic and rage and loss and grief had overwhelmed her barriers, eyes wide with a million emotions. I can't find her, she'd screamed, debris piled all around her. Where is she? Where is she?
I love my parents, I truly do. But I think, somewhere along the path of grief and anger, they forgot about me. Thought that because I didn't show my hurt through tears and rage, that I was fine. Thought that because the way I missed my sister was staying curled up in my room, they could leave me there, throw their pain at each other instead.
I'm not sure if I can ever forgive them, because I lost my sister and parents all at once.
They screamed. They threw things. They were broken and so they kept breaking, snapping off pieces of their heart and convincing themselves that maybe this time, it would make it stop hurting. They got a divorce and during the custody battle all kinds of hurtful words were thrown around the courtroom, daggers driven into vulnerable places only they knew were there.
But those words hurt me more than it ever hurt either of them.
I think the disaster started when Obliteration, the villain that murdered my sister, was found dead in the street. I was at dad's house at the time, and I remember watching him cut out the article and pin it onto the fridge where Anna's drawings used to hang, like it was something to be proud of. Then he burned the rest of the newspaper with a happy expression on his face.
Once I was at my mom's house, I stole the newspaper from her room and read it, a million words crammed into that tiny slip of paper, each one a hammer blow. I remember reading it, curled up in a tiny corner of the closet, hiding from my mother's grief. All I could think when I read the list of injuries was that's what happened to Anna's arm, that's the way Anna looked in the hospital bed. Then: I hope whatever happened to him hurt more than what happened to Anna.
The next week passed without incident, and then there was another villain dead, injuries just the same as one of his victims, a child the newspaper said they couldn't identify, since he was still a kid at the time of his death. My dad didn't pin that article to the fridge, but I saw the scissors and the cut up newspaper and knew he'd taken that one, too.
But dad's never been good at keeping secrets, I guess. The next week, there was a new villain named Vengeance, threatening the villains and heroes of the city alike. Anyone who got involved in a battle, anything that left a child dead -- he promised there would be consequences, bloody and painful.
I don't know when it started with my mom. She worked long hours at her office, but at some point she started staying out for other reasons. She was never home in time for dinner, very rarely in time for bed. But at school they talked about Constellation, a new hero who pledged to keep violence off the streets.
My dad told me she was like all the others, like the ones that had let Anna die, but at this point our relationship was so strained that I didn't even respond. I hated it. I still hate it. A dead sister, a mom who was never there for me, a dad who had turned his eyes to the bigger picture and refused to look at me.
I think what I did was justified.
It wasn't even stealing, not really. Mom had brought some of her work home when she was too tired to make it back to her headquarters or her lair or wherever she normally stored the evidence. It was a formula that awakened superpowers, stolen from a government facility by a villain named Klepto.
So... I took some. Just a little, just enough to ensure that my nightmares would never come true, that I'd have enough power to stop myself from being crushed under fallen debris. Trapped, breathless, to weak to call out for help. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Anna. I loved her, I loved her so much, but I never ever wanted to become her, didn't want to think about her or everything her death had taken from me.
I don't know when I put the pieces together, that my mom was Constellation and my dad was Vengeance, but I guess it made sense. My mom had been born with her electricity powers, and my dad's house had recently become home to a large number of mechanical parts and failed prototypes of his boots tucked away into corners.
I'd like to think my parents just thought I was stupid, but I know I didn't cross their mind at all.
I laid my trap well. Messed up my room at mom's place, broke a window for good measure. (From the outside -- I wanted to make it look like someone had broken in. I took those stupid boot prototypes and broke off a piece, left it in the garden with an address for her to find. At my dad's house, I left empty documents about their custody arrangement and a note supposedly from constellation that read: If you care about our daughter so much, you'll come get her. Corner of North Street and Dark Avenue.
Then I waited.
And it payed off. They're here, staring at each other, not yelling for once. "If..." my mother started. "if you don't have her, then someone else must. I'm wasting my time here." Then she turned towards the door as my father's outrage returned, put a hand on the doorknob and gasped as it didn't move an inch.
"You," my father growled, "are the one who set up this meeting. Move aside." He slammed his foot against the door and the boot broke, pieces scattering across the floor. "Edward," my mom exclaimed, using his real name for once. "We need to get out of here! I need to find our daughter!"
I let a smile creep across my face. We need to get out of here. Our daughter. My mom's hysteria was making her revert to the old days, panic letting her forget her hate and her grief.
It was a start. But if they wanted to get out of here, they were going to need a lot more than that.

2021.09.09 01:41 CyanideSins Fatherhood in RWBY: How they managed to create our team of protagonists through their actions - Taiyang Xiao Long

Fatherhood, as most people who at least have a cursory understanding of psychology, is crucial for the formation of a child's sense of self. The question 'Who is my father' is one that every child will at least ask once, during a teenager's angst, or a child's honest question, and it shapes their children in ways both predictable and unpredictable.
For single mothers who raise their children alone, the question 'who is my father' can at the very least raise the question even further later in life, when the mother replies with 'I don't know' or 'that man is your father, but we are no longer together'. The question later in life, especially when the children have their own children, rises. 'Who is my father's father'?
In RWBY, we see that it is mostly is the absent mother figure, biological or non-biological that comes across as a foundation for their daughters (Talking about team RWBY), in order to create a sense of identity for their daughter.
I will outline some of my thoughts, and invite people to have a civil debate. It is a discussion that should be had, because I had the idea for this post a few days ago after seeing an errant comment on the Summer Rose post, by someone I consider a friend. He's kind of into water-based propulsion.
The reason for this post, is to outline some views on how Taiyang was as a father, from what we can glean from the RWBY episodes that he is in, and comments made.
This post is in no way intended to 'flame' or 'harass' or 'defile the intention of this sub'. People might like to know more about things.
Fatherhood: How the fathers shaped their children.
Taiyang Xiao Long
Most of the people here seem to venerate him as some paragon who got two wives, had two daughters and who was 'the man' in Beacon. Some people even call him 'Chad', which, using most of my experience in life (Quite a bit, I am a bit older than the average 20-something-year-old here), does not seem to be the case.
Ruby easily gets along with her father, whilst Yang bears at least a slight grudge towards him, however subtle it may seem. Her speech to Blake about 'searching for her mother' indicates that her father was not present after Summer Rose died/was listed MIA.
To say that that was not a forming experience for a young girl like Yang, would be to deny reality. A father that she trusted and loved and expected to be there for her, was no longer available in her life. He 'shut down', as it was, and became a husk of his former self.
A girl like Yang is expressive and shows herself as a daring, go-getting individual, who wants to meet challenges and overcome them. She is someone who does not quit, who has to overcome and move forward, a steady theme in RWBY's storytelling.
Now, to speak about Taiyang's role as a father, before his shut-down. We know nothing about that era. I am not assuming that any comic form is 'canon' or 'accurate', due to the mutability and retconning of the comic media. Even official published work is rejected, because it does not deal with Taiyang as a father.
Taiyang, likely, was a man who burned brightly, like his daughter does. He was present enough in her early life to give her that will to continue, even whilst he was engaged in a sexual relationship with Summer Rose, who accepted the Mother-role.
We are allowed to assume that Taiyang and Summer never married. Raven was his wife, as stated by Amity Arena. Divorcing is a lengthy process and it is not as easy to provide undeniable evidence in a setting such as Remnant, that Raven abandoned Yang.
Before the people start to complain and immediately go 'But there was true love involved, Raven was a b-word', let me continue with my line of reasoning: Huntsmen are generally out in the field for weeks to months at a time, and the CCT network does not seem to have full coverage of the planet, or at the very least, not be consistent, though there was a broadcast visible in what seems to be Menagerie with Ilia in V8.
Raven could be 'out on a mission' without telling her spouse. That is her right as a Huntsman. Divorce under such circumstances, would likely not be allowed.
It also shows to us that Taiyang is not the greatest at making decisions that involve his love life. Raven married him, actually going through the ceremony enough to become Raven Xiao Long, from the Branwen tribe. Summer Rose came along after Yang was born and Raven had recovered enough post-child-birth (which is from 3-5 months, I have heard from the hospital's maternity ward, due to bleeding and post-natal care for the mother's innards, since uteral collapse is a danger), leaving to birth Ruby, who was, according to Eddy Rivas, 15 before Beacon, 16 when she joined Beacon as a student.
People may immediately assume that I am making that deduction because I do not like the circumstances there, or that I am 'defaming the great Taiyang Xiao Long'. I am not. I am pointing out that he had an infant there, his daughter, who Summer was taking care of with him, with Qrow being involved as well, supposedly.
One does not easily 'get in the mood' when one is caring for a child. During the first two years of a child's life, most parents are dead tired due to waking up in the night to give a baby its bottle. Summer got pregnant, somehow, and she birthed a child later.
It is too early for Taiyang's divorce to be finalized, if it was ever mentioned at all. We can safely assume that he is still married to Raven, though not acknowledging it. It is not like the matrilineal naming scheme is in effect in Remnant, so he would not assume the name of his wife, though his daughter Ruby, seems to be fully able to have her own name be 'Rose' as a sign of her status of being conceived out of wedlock.
Once more, knowing the type of reaction that that engenders from people who have little to no experience with marriage or laws regarding marriage: Children cannot legally change their name unless it is court-mandated, so we can deduce from that that Taiyang had not married Summer Rose.
Which is a bad choice, if one looks at it. It speaks of compromised judgment, when one immediately chooses another woman who they are affectionately on good terms with, as the replacement mother for their child, and begetting a child with her.
A child is a massive responsibility. A child is your legacy, your future, and Taiyang's failing starts to show when he impregnated Summer Rose with Ruby Rose. He had one daughter of a mother who abandoned the two of them, and now he has conceived another.
Not to say that it does not also create a bond between his daughters and him, but we are working our way up from decisions that he, as an adult male over the age of 21, a huntsman of some skill, has made.
Summer Rose dies on a secret mission and he is devastated. His daughters nearly end up as Grimm food with only a timely save from Qrow, another father figure, who will be regarded in another post, should this be deemed 'interesting enough' to become a series.
If you think that a depressed man, mourning the wife that left him and her replacement who birthed him two beautiful daughters, is any paragon of virtue and wholesomeness, I have serious doubts about the ability of the reader to discern between good and bad parenting.
As a father or mother, you take responsibility for the child you put on this world. Shutting down is not a right response, and he might have committed suicide if Qrow had brought the bodies of his two daughters home. That, we can infer, from V2's statement by Yang to Blake.
How did it shape Yang?
Yang is the most expressive member of team RWBY. The extrovert, who seems to have a lust for life and an eternal burning thirst for adventure and progress, to do what she feels is right and to be the 'sunny little dragon' she is named for.
Having to take upon her shoulders the role of 'mother' and 'Wife' for Taiyang after he shut down and they were left alone with only Qrow taking missions, it shaped her into the figure we see today. More-so in the first few volumes, we see that she is fairly selfless, yet willing to be forward and rather open with how she is, with little thought about the future, living in the here and now.
People will disagree with me here, but this is the 'persona' that Yang has crafted in order to remain the beacon of light in the Xiao Long household. She is not hiding her true self at all, but she is keeping up the expectation of being 'Taiyang's daughter', so as to properly rear Ruby.
Ruby is one of the foci of Yang's life. She raised Ruby as her daughter of sorts, even though they were children of near-similar age. She is the most important thing to Yang, over even her father. Her confidence and her sunny personality also shatter when faced with a severe blow to herself, as losing her arm caused her to show a Taiyang-level depression, with the PTSD that comes with it.
It shows that father and daughter are the same, which I will continue to outline further. It is likely that behind the confident, push-forward demeanour that she shows, with her casual and flippant attitude, there lies a more matronly, serious Yang that does not feel the intense rage that gives her her temper.
We can deduce from Taiyang's own intimacy with Yang's fighting style, that they are both brawling-type of individuals, who probably share more than a few tics. He was able to coach her during the episode before she left, and she left with a confidence that seemed unshaken, but was also out of commission in a similar-level blackout as Taiyang.
It is likely that the more matronly and caring side of her only emerges when she feels comfortable around individuals, preferring to leave the mask of 'Yang, Daughter of Taiyang' on whilst she re-evaluates the situation. Her father would likely do something similar, given how much they apparently seem to have in common.
However, the effect on Yang is also, that she is in search of her mother, due to her father's likely comparison of Yang and Raven. Knowing the effects of depression on a man and Qrow's propensity for liquor to forget bad things, Yang would likely have had a few insults thrown her way, or had to cradle her father whilst he hugged her in a drunken stupor asking 'Raven' why she left.
That is normal behaviour for widowers and non-voluntary divorcees who genuinely loved their wife. I am not assuming that Yang's conception was 'forced' in any way, since he married Raven Branwen.
Most of what Yang says about her father is that he was dad, and that he was a cool dad, with him being unafraid to poke the elephant in the room with the typical bluntness that we come to expect from Yang. He is, like her, a straightforward individual.
His recovery into something functional again, seems to have come around before Yang entered Combat School, which likely caused her personality to remain the 'sunny boisterous brawler' that we all know, with no more real need for her to be Ruby's mother.
His overprotectiveness after their harrowing encounter likely has made Yang a little more hesitant to fully confide in her father. Mothers tend to bond better with their daughters, and him being shut-down, as per her words, would not really create a tight-knit bond.
However Taiyang shaped Yang into the woman she is now, a bright girl who keeps moving on, one Grimm at a time.
Ruby Rose: The conundrum of being upstaged by your brother-in-law
That Ruby Rose seriously admires her uncle is a given, given her interactions with her non-related uncle, his fondness of both of his nieces and the like, yet we do not really delve into the specifics of how he influenced his adoptive niece in this segment. This is about Taiyang, the primary father for Ruby and Yang, yet he is at least, a figure that pops up frequently.
Taiyang, given of what we know of Ruby's early childhood, was absent for most of the formative years, since Summer's death. We do not know how aware Ruby was during her early years, but with Yang as a mother and Qrow as an uncle, it is pretty obvious that she considers Qrow to be somewhat more of a father figure than her own father.
That poses a problem. Yang, her older sister by 1.5 years (If we can believe Eddy Rivas), is someone who is extroverted, whereas Ruby is shy and introverted and 'kind of a geek' with a 'dash of social awkwardness'.
We see little of Taiyang in Ruby's behaviour. She does not have the depressive disposition of her sister or her father. She is eternally optimistic and forward-moving, as her mother might have also been.
She seems to be spared from the Xiao-Long trait of being boisterous and wearing scandalous jackets, at least, on a funny note. Corsets or nothing.
She thinks he is a good father, and she loves him as her father, but we are not given enough context on how he was her father. She feels closer to Qrow, and we are given a massive clue about how that went down with the last episode of V3.
Qrow and Taiyang are at the same place, at the same time. Qrow and Taiyang share a moment in Ruby's room that can be considered somewhat uncomfortable, with the two having a momentary stare-off. It is fairly obvious that Taiyang, in his own way, somewhat resents Qrow for being the more parental figure to Ruby, his daughter.
Ruby is closer to Qrow than she is to Taiyang. That Taiyang is a little overprotective of his daughters, is shown frequently in his body language and how he reacts, likely after the Grimm tried to kill his daughters.
Ruby Rose was affected in a lesser manner by Taiyang's presence, since 'Uncle Qrow' fascinated her and she wanted to be 'cool' like him.
Her likeness in personality and appearance to Summer Rose, likely causes the man some pain due to the loss he suffered.
Fatherhood: A conclusion (Until more is known)
It is not by our will, that we are given flesh. A man is but a miserable pile of secrets, and Taiyang is nothing but a secret wrapped in some enigma.
We do not know whether he dated anyone else, to give his daughters a mother figure. We do not know whether he had to languish until Yang was nine to recover from his mental breakdown. The time period is too vague, but you do not simply 'recover' from a depressive mental breakdown swiftly. It is step-by-step.
His effect on his daughters, at the least, was formative in that they became the protagonists that we know and love right now.
A flawed man, struggling with an emotional shutdown. A flawed man, who nearly lost his daughter. A flawed man, who married one wife, only to betray that oath to her with another after less than two years had passed, to birth the heroine of this series.
He is not the 'sex god' that people proclaim him to be. In fact, I would assume that he is almost certainly sexless in his life, unless he has somehow managed to hide a relationship from both of his daughters.
His marrying of Raven Branwen was the catalyst for Yang to be born. His relationship with Summer ended up with Ruby being born, and he failed his daughters by shutting down.
The effects of his style of parenting and overprotectiveness to shield his children from harm (likely post-Grimm expedition) have led to Ruby and Yang becoming individuals who keep on moving forward, because their father stopped moving forward after Summer died, and is only slowly recovering to become a man and a father again.
I am not a wise man, nor am I a sagely woman. I am someone who studied, who learned and who got a little paper that states that I am an expert in something.
Oftentimes, people here venerate the motherly Summer Rose, who took in a child that was not her own and became a mother, without realizing that a father was equally important in that role.
It is through our folly, that we realize that we are human, and Taiyang is still very much a human in his own way.
Recovering from what was a depressive shut-down, possibly alcoholism, and turning his life around to be a father to Yang, when it had been mostly Qrow likely keeping the family afloat, is an admirable goal.
I do not hate, despise or loathe the man, no matter what people seem to assume. I think he was instrumental in creating the Yang we know. The Yang who said 'I'll beat them up' and 'Strawberry sunrise', who was bold and fearless and depressive, once her arm was removed.
His Volume 4 interactions with his daughter are very loving, caring, yet they do not wash away the years that she had to be the wife of the family, the mother figure to Ruby. He was, however, her father.
Every growing teenager will 'loathe' their parents for their perceived 'restrictions', or at least I remember my own time. Yang, likely, had more than a few restrictions, yet she expresses herself forwardly.
He was a passable father, in her later teens, when he had his life in order.
Ruby was much less affected by Taiyang, yet she considers him her father, even if he does ground her for life upon her return.
He made up for his faults, and that is admirable for a man who seems to have had misfortune after misfortune happen to him.
Yang and Ruby are not fully grown matured teenagers yet, but they have inherited their father's will and good nature. Given how reserved they are about any kind of relationship, it is likely that Taiyang was the warning that they needed to never ever get into a stable relationship with someone, due to witnessing how their father just crashed and burned, before he rose from the ashes like a burning phoenix.
Our fathers shape us. Our mothers birth us. It is a good statement to make, to say that Ruby and Yang both know and love their father for all his faults, and that he has been forgiven by them for breaking down and not being the father that they needed.
He was their father, be it biological or adoptive. To them, he is their father, regardless. We know little about Summer Rose, we know reasonably much about Raven Branwen, but about the father-figures in the picture in RWBY, we know entirely too little.
Final closing words
It is important that these things are discussed. Thousands of discussions about RWBY's mothers are had, with wild theories and headcanons emerging, but there is little attention to the fathers of RWBY, and how they have impressed their own situation on their daughters.
Anyone who says that fathers do not have a place in their daughters' lives, or that Cyanide is talking about irrelevant things that do not matter: You are being prejudiced against men. This place is not a place to immediately say 'men are unfit to be mentioned' and then avoid dialogue.
That is not how civil debate goes.
I am saying that as someone who has studied the humanities.
Fathers, and men, are important. Don't bury that message with hatred and immediate rebuttals of 'men are evil'. People are created by a man and a woman having relations, and one cannot exist without having had a man and a woman engage in reproduction.
Let us keep things civil, and if I am wrong, I am sure that you will engage me in a mature debate.
I am holding out hope that this place has not turned into a dystopia where the freedom of speech is squashed under the boot of intolerance, where people who simply do not agree are vilified as evil, and those who simply wish to show a different view, with their own experiences/education, can be allowed to enlighten others with their takes on things.
I am not a rock that is worn by the erosion of time, I am a flesh and blood being, so if I am wrong, I am willing to say 'Mea Culpa' and be open to changing my mind.
A closed mind, is a very dull and boring place.
So, what do you think of this post?

2021.09.03 19:23 Player-Red The Best Chapter of Every Volume

I'd like to share with you guys my opinions on the best chapters from V1 to V8
Later on I'l talk about what i believe is the worst chapter from every volume, feel free to share your own thoughts on what chapter you personally consider the best
Volume 1 Chapter 8: Players and Pieces
V1 really didn't had the most desirable start, many of it's issues still affect the show today, and it's a shame that the closest we get from the action of the color trailers are from the Blake and Sun vs Torchwick fight, and although i like the choreography there, i think chapter 8 is more well rounded as an episode, it was the chapter that made people truly invested in the show beyond the first chapter, the reactions don't lie, i have a hard time deciding if V1 or V5 is my least favorite volume, but seeing RWBY and JNPR come together to take down a Nevermore and a Death Stalker was really awesome
Volume 2 Chapter 1: Best Day Ever
Okay, this one was hard, V2 has too many great moments, The food fight, Cinder, Emerald and Mercury introduction, Pyrrha vs team CRDL, the bees talk, the dance, RWBY vs Roman, the introduction of Neo, that Ironwood and Glynda talk that basically set up his arc later on, Yang vs Neo, the introduction of team CFVY, which is also the best team, how am i supposed to choose a single chapter?
I ended up going with chapter 1, not only because it introduces Cinder as the big bad of the Beacon arc, but also because it's hard to topple that food fight, we have some legitimately funny scenes like "I am not a crook" and "I always start my semester with a Yang", the scenes with Roman, Emerald and Mercury were also great, "it feels like the divorce" always makes me laugh
I see chapter 1 as a start of all the great moments in the volume, so it deserves the spot
Volume 3 Chapter 11: Heroes and Monsters
I have to say, the first half of V3 was really weak, they hyped up the tournament so much, but what we got were some really lackluster fights and some questionable writing choices, the only fight i really liked was Yang vs Mercury, the backstory episode could have been my favorite if half of it wasn't just a black screen with audio, I'll try to keep my negative points in the other post talking about the worst chapters, although this will be hard for a while...
Anyway, chapter 11 was an easy choice, Blake vs Adam, Ruby vs Roman and Neo, General Ironwood being a badass, Qrow showing his scythe for the first time, the students vs grimm battle, Velvet being a badass, Cinder getting the Maiden power, Adam being a badass for the last time, Yang rage fulled attack and lost of her arm, so many great things happened in this chapter that affected the rest of the story going forward, it was the absolute climax of the Beacon arc, even more than the actual finale in my opinion
Volume 4 Chapter 10: Kuroyuri
This was a hard choice, not for the same reasons as V2 were there was too many stuff that i liked, this time i had a hard time choosing a chapter that had mostly things that i liked in it, and i was starved for backstory episodes, which is funny, because although i liked this episode for what it is, i also hated, we know nothing about the title characters backgrounds besides for a few lines and outside sources, the sisters childhood, Weiss's isolation, Blake's struggles as a Faunus, we got nothing of that in the show, but Ren, the most nothing character of the bunch, gets a full backstory episode, i feel like i could make a whole post just ranting about this, to me V4 and V5 represent the downfall of RWBY, until it rises from the ashes in V6, so excuse me for a bit
Volume 5 Chapter 2: Dread In the Air
Another easy pick, this is the only chapter in V5 that doesn't have any scene i hate, Leo and Salem talk was cool, Watts had some funny moments, Cinder was great as always, Weiss vs Lancers was pretty good for the Maia era standards, Adam and Sienna scene was good in a vacuum, obviously the lack of screen time for both characters made what should be an intense scene become a nothing moment, this episode also made people invested in Hazel's character just to throw that away later in the volume and make people hate his motivation, also i enjoyed being kicked by Raven more than i should, the only other scene in V5 i like is Ilia's confession, but that's probably lesbian bias
I'm trying to think about more positives, but i can't
Volume 6 Chapter 6: Alone in the Woods
Oh boy, RWBY is finally back to it's feet and ready to kick ass, sure there was some missteps here and there and they stumbled a bit later on, like everything involving Cordovin and that mecha fight, but overall this was a great volume with great moments
I choose chapter 6 for how unique and well made it was, also because the Apathy is a really cool grimm, but there's so many scenes throughout the volume that i love
The train fight was really cool, the scenes leading up to Jinn were really well made, Salem's backstory was awesome, Cinder vs Neo, Maria vs Croc Waifu, Blake and Yang vs Adam, Emerald and Mercury talk and Mercury's past, Tyrian reading Mercury and calling him out on his bs, Summer Rose and the silver eyes moment with Indomitable playing
I confess i thought the show couldn't come back from V5, but I'm glad they proved me wrong
Volume 7 Chapter 11: Gravity
Another great volume, well, it's great for what it is, but in the big scheme of things the Atlas arc was very disappointing, this should be the time for Weiss and Blake to shine, but they got almost nothing, the election was a waste of time and we didn't got to see any of Atlas, and just a few streets of Mantle, it's specially annoying because the CFVY books made a great job presenting Vacuo, it's culture and people even though we can't see it, at this point i feel like i know Shade academy more than all the others in the show
An easy fix i could make would be to have Robyn be a faunus and the Happy Huntress a specialist group inside the WF, we could have a side of them trying to do the best for Mantle, Ironwood distrust of Robyn would have more weight since he would use Adam's actions against her, also, for the love of god, have a mini arc with Weiss and Blake serving as the bridge between Mantle and Atlas so they can make them choose to work together at the end, have them conquer both cities so when Ironwood decides to leave Mantle behind his irracional choices would make more sense since he would also have the people of Atlas rioting against his decision
Anyway, talking about the actual chapter, Ironwood vs Watts was really cool, Tyrian vs Qrow, Clover and Robyn was good, although there's some slow and janky moments i don't like, but the actual best part of the episode was Salem confronting the heroes and pushing Ironwood over the edge, the moment where Ruby starts to cry was a bit awkward, specially when she immediate skips to her feet a few minutes after, but all in all it was a great scene
Volume 8 Chapter 6: Midnight
Honestly, V8 was really meh, had some great moments, like that Cinder and Watts scene and Ironwood's ultimatum, that Ren and Nora scene and all of Penny's scenes, even though the Nuts n Dolts shipper inside me is screaming, Emerald kicking Ironwood was also really cool, but there's some really uninspired moments, the fights specially felt very underwhelming, i think the only fight i really liked was Ironwood vs Everyone
And why did i choose chapter 6? Because Cinder is my favorite character, that's all folks
I still have my issues with it tho, i think what we got was fine, but there's too much stuff missing, we didn't got to see what she did after and how she met Salem, but the biggest missed opportunity was not having her burn down the Mansion and that triggering her love for fire, imagine a scene like this:
"The day she burned down that Mansion, that was the first time in her life she had ever felt warm, Cinder watches the fire in awe, admiring that even within their warm embrace, those flames still carry enough power to destroy everything in their path"
Maybe it's too corny, but I'd have liked something like that ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, that's it for now, I'm hyped for V9, can't wait to see what they'll do in that island

2021.08.30 10:15 PipPippeling MD update: 45y old former ballerina from the Netherlands

Last year I wrote a MD: former ballerina turned policy maker, American Dutchie (Dutch mum, American dad) living in Amsterdam, Since then quite a lot has changed - not just thanks to Covid - and I wanted to give an update. Hope you'll enjoy it!
I had a rough year - last year in August it looked like we’d had the worst. Nope. I am still recovering from lock-downs with curfews, not being able to see my family for months (not being able to go to the States) and losing two uncles to Covid. I had a severe bout of anxiety and depression. Had some online therapy and am slowly getting back on my feet.
Still single - seriously, how does one date in a pandemic? And also, men my age are how do I say this nicely? Let’s go with weird.
New job (still government), new house!
I changed my job in February: I now work for the department of Justice. Policy make deputy manager: yup, got myself an increase in salary. That isn’t the biggest change money wise. I had an 3 bedroom apartment in the center of Amsterdam. I’ve sold it this spring for an obscene amount of money: $1,770,000 Insane right? A bedroom without kitchen or bathroom just sold for over $118,000 … (This is mainly in Amsterdam. I had a great deal in the Hague).
I used some of the money to pay off my mum’s & sister’s mortgages. My sis got divorced last year and this way she doesn’t have to worry about housing costs. I also bought my mum & sis cars (second hand ‘cause my dad drilled us never to buy new cars due to value loss the moment you leave the showroom)
Moved this summer to the Hague where I bought an apartment near the beach. My current mortgage is $54,0000 - yes, I still have a mortgage for tax reasons. I am now looking into what to do with the rest of my money. Will be setting up (college) funds for my nieces ‘cause since a couple of years Dutchies have to pay for uni/college - I want my nieces to have the same freedom I had to choose what they really want - below there’s a dilemma though.

My savings account balance: $1,114,997
Checking account balance: $5,674
No creditcard debts. No student loans.
Somethings don’t change: I still don’t have a driver’s license. Considering it. Still not sure. I do everything by bicycle or walking - the Hague is small, compared to US cities. Between cities I use public transport

Main Job Monthly Take Home: $4,821
Here is the take down: $8,145 gross a month minus $645 pension contribution and $2,679 taxes
All the work benefits are still there: public transport card, iPhone, laptop, reimbursed gym membership and 12 weeks paid leave

Expenses
Mortgage $297 (20 year fixed rate at less than 2%)
Home owners association fee $59
Water $30 (monthly, billed every 3 months)
Gas/electricity $115
Health insurance $150 - this covers all qualified care. System is complicated but covers a lot.
Other insurances (legal, home, travel) $35
Mobile phone $25.96
Wifi $85
Spotify $9.99
Apple iCloud storage $0.99
Netflix $10.99
Vitamines $13.50 (monthly, receive twice a year)
Digital newspaper $10.50
City taxes $75 (estimate)
Environment and waste taxes $50 (estimate)

Donation to the National Ballet junior Dance Company $354
Donation to animal shelter $118
Donation to Amnesty $118
Donation to youth LGBTQ organization $118

Personal trainer $275 (weekly appointment)
Acupuncture & massage $135 (two appointments a month)
Personal maintenance (brows, wax, hair dresser): differs monthly - I go to a ridiculously expensive but fabulous hair salon twice a year. My nonexistent brows get colored every 6 weeks and where my brows need restoration other areas need plucking every 6 weeks … In total I reserve $270 a month this includes skincare, make-up and perfume.
During my move I had to sort all my stuff. That was uhm confronting. To say the least. Repeat after me: I own enough black leggings, trainers, sweaters, hoodies and a special mention for black blazers for the rest of my life (even if I’d be 150). Haven’t bought anything new since June - will break this soon, I just know. If the diary doesn’t mention specific clothes I am wearing leggings and a sweatehoodie and trainers. The WFH uniform.

Yearly
Disney+ $89.99
Headspace $68.42
MyFitnessPal $58.99
Evy running app $11.79
Museum card $44.55

Day 1 total spent $23.16
Waking up at 7h30 feeling slightly disoriented (yes, still after almost 3 months in my new house). Quick bodyshower (had to included this word!), brush teeth and dress in a nice top and leggings. Hair goes in a high pony tail. Add a dash of make up to cover my red cheeks (it’s not rosacea- I had severe allergies last year unknown what caused it). Make some oatmeal with water - my microwave decides explosive oatmeal it will be today - new try: oatmeal comes out fine. Exactly same quantities, just how? Eat it with blueberries and start my work from home day. I have eating issues, remaining of the ballet days. Last year got a dietitian making a meal plan with suggestions. Try to eat 3 meals - 5 snacks a day
I started my new job from home and I can not wait till we are allowed back into the office. Go to my home office - now with work approved chair and screen. Typical Monday: plenty of calls, back-to-back Zoom meeting. I drink a lot of tea and water.
Lunch is toast with peanut butter and a banana (please read in Minion voice)
My Longchamps tote has a hole in it. It’s old - have had it for more than 20 years. Tried to fix it with duct tape. Fail. Order a new one in the same color: navy and use a gift card. Remaining amount is $23.16
Work till 17h30 and pack a gym bag. Gyms are finally open. They were closed from September last year till May this year. Found a great gym near my home and go 3-4 times a week. Grab a protein shake and make a quick call to my mum: she is still going strong! (Yes, I still call her every day)
Home at 20h30 and make dinner: veggies, chicken and rice noodles. Eating while watching TikToks and texting friends. In bed by 22h30. I am reading Circe - can’t stop and finish the book around midnight.

Day 2 total spent $86.44
Waking up at 7h30 and feeling like Grumpy Cat. Look like that too. Shower, brush teeth, make up, clothes. Hair in a bun. Need coffee. Make a double espresso and might have repeated that once or twice…
Tuesdays are staff meeting days: start at 9h end at 13h. I turn off my camera during the first meeting and make breakfast: oatmeal with raspberries. Nearly another eruption of oatmeal…
Run outside at 13h to have a break and cycle to my best friend. She now lives 15 minutes away instead of 1 1/2 hours. Her mum has a sourdough starter and gave me some. We have named the starter Gertrude.
Eat lunch at my friends’ house; lentil soup with sourdough and cherry tomatoes. My friend is in my bubble - yes, even though we’re both vaccinated we still do bubbles. Thanks variation - not.
Cycle back home just in time for the next hours of meetings.
18h00 my brain wants a break. Spinning class it is.
We don’t have SoulCycle or Peloton in the Netherlands - not even the Peloton app. We have RPM or spinning.
The classes I do vary in sort: Monday or Saturday are the fun classes. Tuesday training focuses on cycling to a % of my heartbeat and Thursdays are for strength. Half September - if the Covid rules will allow it - I will participate in a spinning marathon for the academic children’s hospital. Therefore: training 3-4 times a week.
Pick up my meds (calcium tablets - anti histamines and a new epipen) at the pharmacy: no costs. I am 45 and have (skin) allergies and acne. Just how? My dermatologist advised La Roche Posay Toleriane. Pharmacist gave me some samples a week ago to try out and I now buy cleaning foam, day cream, serum and night cream $86.44
Dinner at 21h: omelet with veggies while calling my mum & scrolling Insta. Feed Gertrude. In bed by 22h30. New book: One Last Stop. My reading habits are either teenager or geriatric. Read till midnight.

Day 3 total spent $5.55
Wake up at 7h30 and change into workout clothes. On Wednesdays, I train with a personal trainer. Have found a great one who understands my goals. As a TikTok goes: “I don’t wanna be strong like man who looks pretty, I want to be strong like bitch that fights bears in forest”.
Cycle to the location and work out for an hour. Treat myself to fancy hot dark chocolate afterwards ($5.55) ‘cause chocolate milk is good for muscle recovery (love this excuse) and cycle home. Shower and start work at 10h.
Repeat the previous days: tea, oatmeal, fruit, work, lunch (pb toast, banana), more work. End of the workday at 19h: call my mum. She wants to go on a family holiday next month. I make the reservation ($1,072, 3 adults, 2 kids, 2 cars, 6 days, 5 nights, including taxes. My mum transfers me the money - she insists on paying for all of us)
Dinner is fish and veggies with black rice while watching Netflix Love is Blind: after the altar. O M G after watching that I am so happy to be single.
21h30 meditate with Headspace and read my book. Just before I want to turn the lights off I remember I have to feed Gertrude! Finish book before 1…

Day 4 total spent $44.91
Wake up at 5h30. Why? Go back to bed and wake up at 8h. Groundhog Day: shower, dress, tea, oatmeal, fruit, tea, meetings, calls, lunch (black beans with rice and veggies), more meetings.
Just before 17h the postman delivers a huge box: goodies from my US family! Things you can not buy in the Netherlands (ranch dressing!) I decide this is a natural end of my workday. Unbox and eat bag of M&Ms - almond ones, not sold here. Text my aunt to thank here and put reminder in my phone to send Dutch treats to her after her holiday

Call my financial advisor for an in person appointment next week. I need to diversify my savings and I want to formally set up (college) funds for my nieces but in a way my sis and her ex won’t have access. Also call my notary for an appointment to update my will.
Call my mum. Make dinner: gado gado (Indonesian veggies with egg and satay sauce) with rice. Might have eaten PB straight from the jar. Feed Gertrude and call my sister.
We chat and make plans for the holiday next month. My 6 year old niece has decided she also wants to be a ballerina. My sister wants advice whether they should let her go to a special ballet class which will qualify her for the ballet school I went to. Although I loved being a ballerina I tell my sister my doubts. I missed out on a lot as a kid/teenager and still deal with negative effects on my (mental) health. Being weighed every week, judged on how I was built and on looks & appearance was tough. Not to mention I destroyed my feet and knees with the pointe shoes - hence the biweekly massages & acupuncture and the calcium tablets. But if my niece loves it … should we interfere?
After this I need some retail therapy. Browse an online bookstore and order 4 books for $44.91 I prefer paper over my Kindle - and funny enough English books are cheaper in paper form than in Kindle format in the Netherlands.
Make a shopping list for tomorrow. In bed by 23h.
No new book today: reread Deborah Harkness. Love her first 3 books. Not so sure about the fourth one.

Day 5 total spent $68.41
Wake up at 8h. I usually have the day off on Friday (full time work week for a civil servant is 32 hours - most people divide that over 4 days. Yes, even management). Decide to go to a yoga class. Not a good choice. Still do not like yoga. Drink a brought from home green shake afterwards. My gym is next to a mall (in the Netherlands a mall is very different to a mall in the States) and I do my weekly grocery shopping.
First stop greengrocer: strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, cherries, bananas, different varieties of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, fennel, green beans, broccoli, zucchini, carrots, celery, cherry tomatoes, beets and chard. $22.36 - that’s fairly normal for me. Will last me for the whole week. I try to limit grocery shopping to once a week - not for Covid reasons mainly because I hate food shopping.
Supermarket haul: eggs, whole chicken, beef, fresh and smoked salmon, brown shrimps, peanut butter, almond and oat milk, oatmeal, salted French butter, rye flour for Gertrude, wild rice, bleach. Totals at $39.00 cause I bought mostly organic.
Pick up bright pink peonies - in August! Final bloom I guess. $7.05 for 10.
Make lunch: banana pancakes and coffee.
Take out the trash and clean my house while listening to a podcast of Brene Brown.
Start to make the first Gertrude bread. Smells delicious. Is delicious. Send a picture of my bread to my friend’s mum. She approves.
Cycle to a new dermatologist. First appointment is free: I have some spots I want to get rid off. Love the doctor: her advice is microneedling and laser for some spots, but wait with the treatment till autumn. Cost won’t be reimbursed: purely cosmetic isn’t covered by insurance. Estimated $206.50
Call my mum. Make dinner: minestrone soup from the freezer, salad and Gertrude bread. Time for my weekly remote appointment with friends: we watch trash tv (Dutch version of Say yes to the Dress) and group FaceTime. Snack on US Oreos. Yes, there is a difference! In bed by 22h, reading till midnight and finish the first book.

Day 6 total spent $80.15
8h Up and shower - change into gym clothes, drink a protein shake and go to my spinning class. Home at 11h and am hungry but have lunch plans. Eat slice of bread with butter. Freeze the rest of the bread in portions. Shower, do my hair and get fully dressed for a lunch with 3 of my ballet besties! Green silk pants, navy cashmere sweater and black flat shoes - the Hague is not a city to walk around in heels. Who am I kidding after last year I have to learn to walk in heels again. Golden earrings and necklace and a full face: Ilia make up, blush, bright pink lip, mascara. Pack a mask and hand sanitizer. Masks are only mandatory in public transport. A lot of people still wear them in busy places - including me. Cycle to the city center.
Outdoor lunch in the garden of a great restaurant: mimosa, steak tartare with fries for me and a lot of water and tea. Dessert: already a new favorite mocha cream coffee cake ($30.65 for my share) We move to another pub garden where we drink, eat bitterballen (ultimate Dutch pub grub) and enjoy a sunny day($49.50). We had a horrible summer! We don’t want to go inside due to Covid, so when the sun settles we break up.
It was so good to catch up with everyone! None of us dance anymore. As one friend said: we only got worse over time and we remember too well what we could.
Home at 22h - yup, time flies. Call my mum and prepare to wash my hair. Still Olaplex. For the first time ever I’m gonna finish a bottle of shampoo at the same time as the conditioner. And the bottles lasted me 22 months! Takes an hour - worth it. Listen to Rob Lowe’s podcast. Not sure I like it. Feed Gertrude and sort my laundry. In bed by midnight. Reread book 2 by Deborah.

Day 7 total spent $178.68
6h Why? It is Sunday. Get out of bed at 7h and decide to walk to the beach. Instant good vibes when I see the sea.
Walk home and cycle to a French bakery for an almond croissant and some madeleines - $7.43. Make espresso and enjoy my croissant.
11h30 Text my friend who lives nearby: she is still in bed. She’ll come over for late brunch at my place. Defrost some bread and make sandwiches with smoked salmon and cucumber and a fruit salad. And coffee, lots of coffee. Oh and the madeleines.
We want to go on a holiday but are unsure where to go (the EU map is like a traffic light and changing fairly quickly from go to no go). Requirements: sun and safe. We go for Malta. Only vaccinated tourists are allowed. Relative high vaccination rate and I’ve got a friend living there who wants to houseswap for a week. Flight is cheap ($147.50)
Friend leaves at 18h and you’ve guessed it: I call my mum. Ate too much during the day so dinner is a salad of veggies with a quick dressing & a can of tuna. Feed Gertrude. Water all my plants. I saw a great poster on TikTok of Legally Blond - order it on Etsy. It is self print so send it to a print shop ($7.53 & $16.22)
Write down my plans for the week and listen to a piano concert on Spotify. In bed by 22h, read some more and lights out at midnight.

Totals
Food + Drink $154.09
Fun + Entertainment $44.91
Home + Health $30.80

Reflections
Since moving to another city and the lifting of most restrictions this was pretty much a typical week for me in terms of activities (other than the reunion with my ballet besties). The gym is my social place - lol.
My move has given me financial freedom I’d never imagined. Trying to allocate this fortune to actual good causes so hopefully I can help others is the main goal now.
I can not wait to return to the office - last news say end September!
I love how at home I already feel in the Hague. This week was typical for my current life. I’m happy where I am. Although I’m double vaxxed I feel a hesitant about meeting people and still avoid public indoor places the best I can.

2020.10.11 02:01 PennsylvanianfromNY [Event]Illia II Reiterates Calls for the Establishment of a Constitutional Monarchy

The Patriarch's Statement

Amidst ongoing instability in the Caucuses, Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia and head of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Illia II has reiterated his previous calls for the restoration of the monarchy in Georgia. A historic proponent of a constitutional monarchy, the Patriarch's statement repeated previous reasoning for the restoration of Georgia's historic ruling family: the Bagrationi Dynasty.
In the Patriarch's view, restoring the monarchy will create a figure which the Georgian people can unite under, strengthening national unity and bridging the divides within the Georgian nation. Citing the political crisis of 2008 as evidence of a need for a monarch in his earliest statement, the Patriarch instead cited the ongoing clashes in the neighboring states of Azerbaijan and Armenia and the affects of the conflict in Georgia as proof that Georgia yearns for a monarch.
Furthermore, the Patriarch has argued that a monarchy is central to the Georgian tradition; and that restoration would be rectifying a historical wrong; in the form of the dethroning of the Bagrationi Dynasty by the Russian Empire in the 1800s.

The Bagrationi Dynasty and the Battle for the Crown

Reported to have originated in the 8th century, the Bagrationi Dynasty ruled over Georgia for over a millennia, only being deposed follow the conquest of Georgia by the Russian Empire in the early 1800s. Following the annexation by Russia, the Bagrationi family became one of many aristocratic families, eventually fleeing for Western Europe following the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia.
With the collapse of Communism and the restoration of an independent Georgia, members of the dynasty returned to Georgia. Although maintaining some level of prominence in a newly republican Georgia, the dynasty is far from united.
Currently, the claim for head of the dynasty has been split between two competing branches of the dynasty: the Mukhrani and Gruzinsky branch. Although the two branches appeared to have been united following the marriage of Prince David Bagration of Mukhrani and Princess Ana Bagration Gruzinsky and through the birth of their son: Giorgi Bagrationi), the disputes has continued following the divorce of David and Ana. Although denoting Giorgi as head of the dynasty would solve the issue of the dispute, given that he is nine, and as his father David, and Ana's father Prince Nugzar Bagration-Gruzinsky are alive, he is ineligible to become head of the dynasty, and thus the dispute continues and may pose a significant obstacle to restoration.
The dispute could be potentially resolved however, if the Patriarch were to endorse a particular branch as his favored pick. However, in his most recent statement; the Patriarch did not endorse Prince David or Prince Nugzar though, a future endorsement is not out of the question.

A Possibility or a Distant Dream?

Discussion of restoring the monarchy in Georgia is been in the public conscious for more then a decade, and current and historical views on restoration could prove favorable to the Patriarch's cause. For example, following a previous statement in 2017 on the monarchy by the Patriarch, chairman of Georgia's ruling Georgian Dream expressed openness to the idea. This element along with the sway held by Illia II and the Church on Georgian society could help further the likelihood of a restoration of the monarchy. Furthermore, public opinion on restoration appears to have been positive in past polls, and if the Patriarch commits to more actively campaigning for the monarchy as he hinted to in his most recent statement, the return of the Kingdom of Georgia could soon become a reality.

2020.07.15 18:02 LearningIsListening A not-so-brief rundown of letters J-L of Jeffrey Epstein's 'Little Black Book'

Below is a rundown of letters J-L of Epstein's contacts. Last year, I wrote about letters A-C. You can check that out here (https://www.reddit.com/conspiracy/comments/cpis3n/a_brief_rundown_of_the_first_ten_pages_of_jeffrey/).
I also wrote about letters D-F on July 5, 2020. You can check that out here (https://www.reddit.com/conspiracy/comments/hlrba8/a_notsobrief_rundown_of_letters_df_in_jeffrey/).
I posted letters G-I on July 13, 2020. You can check that out here (https://www.reddit.com/conspiracy/comments/hqko0y/a_notsobrief_rundown_of_letters_gi_in_jeffrey/). There are some misspelled names. Epstein entered their names like this.
I have bolded some of the more interesting connections and information, but there could be much more that I overlooked. I hope something here strikes an interest in someone and maybe we can get more investigations out of this. Please, if you know anything more about any of these people than what is presented here, post below. I am working off of the unredacted black book found here: https://www.coreysdigs.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Jeffrey-Epsteins-Little-Black-Book-unredacted.pdf
J-L
Jackson, Michael (Samuel Gen): Yes, this is a reference to MJ the singer. However, the numbers listed are not MJ’s. They belong to Samuel Gen, a lawyer for a financial advisor (Jerry Seinfeld’s brother-in-law) who worked for MJ for a while. This one was a reach for Epstein.
Jacobson, Julian: Likely a reference to a Managing Director at several London-based investment firms.
Jagger, Mick: World-famous lead singer of the Rolling Stones. Has been seen in photographs with Ghislaine Maxwell. Actress Rae Dawn Chong claims she slept with Jagger when she was 15 years old.
Jagger, Hatti: Former fashion director for Vogue, Harper’s, and Tatler. Also works as a celebrity stylist and at fashion shows.
jake: Not enough info.
Jameel, Mohammed: Saudi Arabian businessman. CEO of Abdul Latif Jameel, a collective of family-owned businesses that specialize in transportation, investing, and real estate. Royal pervert Prince Andrew infamously partied on Jameel’s yacht during the 2011 London riots (source: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/prince-andrew-frolicks-on-yacht-with-mystery-147496).
James, Susie: Founder and owner of 123 Send Ltd, a company that provides payment terminals.
Janklow, Linda: Literary agent and wife of Mort Janklow, the primary owner of Janklow & Nesbit Associates, the largest literary agency in the world. Attended a party hosted by Sony Pictures with Epstein, although they are not pictured together (source: https://www.patrickmcmullan.com/search/?event=5b3ef4fb9f92906676446c21). In 2007, Ghislaine Maxwell threw an exclusive party (80 carefully selected guests) at her NYC townhouse to celebrate the opening of a new shop by designer Allegra Hicks (granddaughter-in-law of Earl Mountbatten, who you can read more about in my G-I Epstein thread under India Hicks’s name). One of the eighty guests was Julie Landlow, daughter of Linda and Mort.
Jarecki, Nancy & Andrew: Andrew is a filmmaker, co-founder of Moviefone, and was a producer on Catfish, the documentary that launched the popular MTV show. Andrew’s family was reportedly friends with Jeffrey Epstein. There is an EXCELLENT thread on the connections between the Jarecki family (especially Andrew and Nick’s father, Henry) and Epstein here (source: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1200044576947556352.html). Quick summary: Henry was born in Nazi Germany; flew on the Lolita Express; is an expert in psychotropic drugs; owns two islands in the British Virgin Islands; founded the first youth center in the British Virgin Islands; lived 2 miles from Epstein in NYC; owns and donates to many sketchy foundations, schools, and organizations; has donated at least $1 million to leftist organizations). Andrew’s wife Nancy created bettybeauty, a company that specializes in hair dye for your nether regions (not kidding).
Jarecki, Nick: The movie director brother of Andrew and son of Henry Jarecki (see link under Andrew & Nancy Jarecki for more info). Reportedly dated Courtney Love (also in Epstein’s ‘Black Book’) in 2015. Photographed with Ghislaine Maxwell at a Gucci party (source: https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/ghislaine-maxwell-and-nick-jarecki-attend-gucci-hosts-a-news-photo/591605562).
Jason (canada): Not enough info. Could be artist Jason Wasserman based out of Canada. The second number listed traces back to Station 16 Gallery in Montreal.
Javier: Javier Banon is former Co-head of Merchant Banking at Lehman Brothers and current Founding Partner of Trilantic Europe.
Jeffries, Tim: Ownedirector of Hamiltons Gallery in London. Best known for dating models Elle Macpherson, Claudia Schiffer, Kylie Minogue and Sophie Dahl (also in Epstein’s ‘Black Book’). Jefferies has attended fundraisers for ARK Academy and the NSPCC. He truly cares about children.
Johnson, Richard & Nadine: Nadine is a millionaire public relations guru. Nadine is a good friend of Ghislaine Maxwell’s. Some clients of Nadine Johnson include spirit cooking extraordinaire Marina Abramovic and hotelier Andre Balazs, good friend of Ghislaine. Richard is one of the most well-known gossip columnists and was the editor of Page Six for twenty-five years. There is a great thread detailing the Johnsons’ ties to the Clintons, Balazs, and others here (source: https://threader.app/thread/1162148078981394432). Basically, Richard Johnson is friendly with the Clintons and, as Page Six Editor, purposely did not report or downplayed stories on the Clintons and Nadine’s clients. He also took bribes. Considering Nadine is a good friend of Ghislaine, it would not be a stretch to assume that Richard could have buried stories on Maxwell and Epstein. I could spend 10 pages on the shady connections these two have.
Johnson, Lucy: Not enough info.
Jones, Ann & Mick: Mick is the guitarist of Foreigner, an immensely popular rock band in the ‘70s and ‘80s. His wife, Ann, is a jewelry designer, and friend of Ghislaine. Ann Jones was photographed at a party with Ghislaine and Donald Trump in 1997 (source: https://www.the-sun.com/news/85818/epstein-madam-ghislaine-maxwell-milked-billionaire-dad-and-threw-lavish-parties-with-beautiful-women/)
Josephson, Barry & Jackie: Barry is a producer and the former President of Production for Columbia Pictures. Jackie is his ex-wife and also a producer.
Karella, Kalliope: Wife of Prince Pierre d’Arenberg. Kalliope is a good friend of Ghislaine Maxwell.
Kastner, Ron: No info found.
Katz, Anton & Robin Plant: Anton is CEO and co-founder of Talos Trading, which specializes in cryptocurrency. Anton and Robin are friends of and have been photographed with Ghislaine (source: https://www.patrickmcmullan.com/search/?person=5b3ef50c9f929066764df255).
Katzeneilenbogen, Mark: Long-time investment banker who used to be based out of South Africa.
Keeling, Sarah: There is a Sarah Keeling in London who is a former British government official with 20 years of experience in national security and intelligence experience, however, the phone number listed has a 410 area code, which leads back to eastern Maryland. Inconclusive.
Kegan, Rory: A nightclub designer and creator. Co-founder of the exclusive, celebrity-filled London nightclub, Chinawhite. Prince Andrew (source: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/9818190/prince-andrew-pictures-cast-doubt-epstein-sex-slave/) and Prince Albert of Monaco are regulars. Chelsea Clinton has been there, as well (source: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/bright-night-for-china-white-6299739.html). Other patrons include: Prince Andrew, Kate Middleton, George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, and more.
Keidan, Amanda: Owner of Keidan Jewelry.
Keidan, Jon: An entertainment executive-turned-venture capitalist. As an entertainment exec, Keidan worked with John Legend, Dave Matthews Band, and Nappy Roots. Keidan serves on the Council of Foreign Relations, a powerful group that some believe determines foreign policy. Former and current members include former presidents, current and former politicians, business magnates, and celebrities (https://www.cfr.org/membership/roster).
Keller, Georgie: Interior designer.
Kellette Frayse, Caroline: Fashion editor at Vogue and Tatler (both magazines constantly come up in Epstein’s contacts). Former girlfriend of Imran Khan, whose name has come up frequently. Passed away in 2014. Her husband, Jean-Marc Fraysse, is a French investment banker.
Kelmenson, Leo-Arthur & Gayl: Leo was an advertising and marketing guru who has been credited with saving Chrysler. Friend and advisor to Lee Iacocca, former President of Chrysler. He worked as Special Project Officer for the U.S. Department of State under President John F. Kennedy and AG Robert F. Kennedy. He had tons of connections. His former maid accused him of sexual harassment in 2010 (source: https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/maid-harassment-suit-claims-ad-exec-leo-arthur-kelmenson-madman-pervy-mad-men-wannabe-article-1.156915). Kelmenson died less than two months after the story came out.
Kennedy Cuomo, Andrew & Kerry: Andrew is the current governor of New York. It’s no secret that Cuomo is willing to look the other way on sexual deviancy as long as he receives a payoff. Cuomo halted a probe into the handling of Harvey Weinstein’s case in New York after receiving $25,000 from Weinstein’s law firm (source: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/bjbqg4/andrew-cuomo-received-dollar25000-donation-from-harvey-weinsteins-law-firm). Andrew’s brother, CNN Host Chris Cuomo famously told viewers “not to get caught up in the intrigue of who Epstein’s friends are” (source: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/07/11/cnn_cuomo_lets_not_get_caught_up_in_the_intrigue_of_who_was_friends_with_jeffrey_epstein.html). Perhaps, he was covering for his brother. Kerry Kennedy is Cuomo’s ex-wife of fifteen years, the daughter of RFK, and a close friend of Ghislaine Maxwell. Supposedly, Kennedy provided Ghislaine with informal illegal advice (source: https://www.splicetoday.com/politics-and-media/the-nth-word-and-m-theory).
Kennedy Jr. Ted: Son of Ted Kennedy and nephew of JFK and RFK. Ted Jr. dabbled in politics and currently works as a lawyer. His father, Ted, was a notorious sexual abuser (allegedly).
Kennedy, Bobby & Mary: Bobby is the son of RFK and nephew of JFK. Bobby is a known drug abuser and philanderer. Bobby kept a sex journal detailing his conquests while he was married (source: https://nypost.com/2013/09/08/rfk-jr-s-sex-diary-of-adultery/). His ex-wife, Mary, committed “suicide” two years after their divorce. Before committing suicide, Mary told a friend that she “feared for her life” and Bobby told her that she “would be better off dead” (source: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3231043/How-serial-cheater-Bobby-Kennedy-Jr-strutted-family-home-exposing-private-parts-demanded-m-nage-trois-wife-Mary-went-public-Cheryl-Hines-telling-Mary-things-easier-killed-herself.html).
Kennedy, Ethel: Widow of RFK Sr. and mother of eleven, including Bobby Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy, and Joseph Kennedy II.
Kennedy, Jo: Joseph Kennedy II is the son of RFK Sr. and Ethel. Served in the House of Representatives from 1987-1999. In 1973, Joseph was convicted of negligent driving after paralyzing a young woman. He was fined $100.
Kennedy, Senator Edward: Brother of JFK and RFK, Ted Kennedy served as U.S. Senator of Massachusetts for 47 years. Besides politics, Ted is best known for the Chappaquiddick incident in which a young female speechwriter for RFK drowned to death when he lost control of his vehicle while driving across a bridge. He was charged with leaving the scene of an incident and given a two month suspended sentence. Ted was also notorious for his extramarital affairs. Senator Kennedy once hosted a party at his house attended by Bill Clinton and Lynn Forester de Rothschild. Rothschild wrote a letter to Clinton afterwards in which she mentions that they spoke about Epstein (source: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7283825/Jeffrey-Epstein-injured-jail-cell-following-possible-suicide-assault.html). It is unclear what was said or what Rothschild’s connection could possibly be.
Kersner, Sol: South African accountant and hotel and casino magnate who died of cancer in 2020. Kerzner was a close friend of Donald Trump. They even worked together to create The Palm, a man-made island off the coast of Dubai (source: https://www.ft.com/content/46393280-d9f9-11da-b7de-0000779e2340). Kerzner was also close friends with Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York (https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/sarah-ferguson-the-duchess-of-york-sol-kerzner-chairman-and-news-photo/83768272), Naomi Campbell (https://www.gettyimages.ca/detail/news-photo/naomi-campbell-and-sol-kerzner-pose-backstage-during-the-news-photo/82869744), and Bill Clinton (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8144647/As-Sol-Kerzner-dies-aged-84-RICHARD-KAY-looks-riotously-louche-life.html). Kerzner was very good friends with Nelson Mandela and built his casino resorts with Gerard Inzerillo, who you can read about in my G-I ‘Black Book’ thread.
Khayat, Antoine, Jana, & George: Jana is an heiress and businesswoman. Jana is the niece of Galen Weston, a close friend of Prince Charles. George is her brother and CEO of Associated British Foods. Jana’s husband, Antoine, is a former banker and currently runs their vineyard.
Kidd, Jemma: Kidd is a British makeup artist, fashion model, and aristocrat. Married to Arthur Wellesley, Earl of Mornington, the son of the Duke and Duchess of Wellington, making her a Countess. Kidd is an interesting figure with elite connections. From 2005-2012, Ghislaine Maxwell served as Director of Jemma Kidd Make-Up Limited, a U.K. makeup company, which was founded by Kidd. Not only did Ghislaine serve as Director, but she was also a shareholder, along with the Rothschild family (source: https://nationalpost.com/news/world/in-hiding-for-years-epstein-accomplice-ghislaine-maxwell-spotted-in-l-a-burger-shop). If you click around the PDFs on this website (https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/05340072/filing-history), you can see everything. The 16 JUN 2006 PDF on page 3 shows you a list of Officers and shareholders of the company. Jemma Kidd has also attended charity events for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) (https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-beckham-nspcc-party-jemma-kidd-106882170.html). Her sister, Jodie, is also a huge supportefundraiser of the NSPCC, as well as the Help a London Child and Monsoon Accessorize Trust charities, both of which help out disadvantaged children (source: https://www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/jodie-kidd).
King, Abby: No info found.
Kirwin Taylor, Charlie & Helen: Charles is an investment banker. He was former CEO of Credit Suisse in Switzerland, an investment firm which shows up a few times through Epstein’s contacts. His wife, Helen, is a journalist.
Kirwin Taylor, Peter: British financier. Was a member of the Pilgrims Society (https://isgp-studies.com/pilgrims-society-membership-list), a group that has included the Rothschilds, Rockefellers, and other elites amongst its ranks.
Kissinger, Dr. Henry A: Former U.S. Secretary of State and National Security Advisor under Nixon. Kissinger has long been accused of committing war crimes (ex: carpet bombing Cambodia, installing fascist governments in Chile and Argentina, genocide, extending our stay in Vietnam, etc) yet somehow managed to win a Nobel Peace Prize in 1973. Kissinger once said, “Military men are dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns for foreign policy.” Kissinger served with Epstein on the Trilateral Commission. Kissinger has also been a member of the Bilderberg Group, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Aspen Institute, and Bohemian Grove. Long thought to be an advocate for a globalist New World Order, Kissinger is a scumbag of the highest order. His connections with Gates, the Clintons, Bush Sr. and Jr., the Rockefellers, and the Rothschilds are well-documented. If anyone here has ever done any research regarding the NWO, you have undoubtedly seen Kissinger’s name several times.
Klee, Rupert & Charlotte de: Rupert is a Director with Oakridge Group, a property development and investment company. His wife, Charlotte, is the producer of the religious plays at Wintershall.
Klesch, Johnathan: Former Director of Klesch Trading, which specializes in industrial commodities. It has offices in Russia, Malta, Surrey, and in London, down the block from Buckingham Palace.
Koch, David: Co-founder of Koch Industries, a diversified manufacturing conglomerate. Koch Industries has stolen oil from Indian reservations, committed hundreds of polluting, labor, and workplace safety violations. When he ran on the Libertarian ticket as the vice presidential nominee in 1980, Koch aimed to abolish Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, welfare benefits, and minimum wage. Koch and Epstein were friends. Epstein even attended a party at Koch’s Southampton home (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7270735/Jeffrey-Epstein-Trumps-closest-advisers-Wilbur-Ross-Rudy-Giuliani-Steve-Mnunchin.html). Koch has also been photographed with Ghislaine Maxwell (https://www.reddit.com/KochWatch/comments/dcjth3/david_koch_ghislaine_maxwell_getty_images/). Thankfully, Koch died last year.

Lambos Duff & John: Karen “Duff” Duffy is an actress, model, and TV personality. She has had memorable roles as the love interest in “Blank Check” and as JP Shay in “Dumb and Dumber.” Duffy has battled with sarcoidosis, a deadly central nervous system disease, since the mid-’90s. She credits Harvey Weinstein with saving her life (https://nypost.com/2000/10/03/coping-with-class-this-model-patient-suffers-in-style/). John is a former banker with Morgan Stanley and current President of GCA-US, an investment banking company.
Lang, Caroline: An art expert and Chairman at Sotheby’s Switzerland.
Lange, Dieter: Former Partner at WilliamHare, an international law firm with offices in London, Berlin, the U.S., Beijing, and Brussels. Passed away in 2010.

Laurie, Jonathan: Founder and CEO of Cheyne Capital Management, an alternate investment fund firm.
Lavlada, Laura D.B. de: Laura Diez Barroso is a Mexican businesswoman. She sold her stock in Televisa for $726 million in 1993. Since then, she has been the head of several other companies.

Le Fur, Jean-Yves: French businessman and magazine creator. He was once Princess Stephanie of Monaco’s ex-fiance. More notably, Le Fur was the one who discovered supermodel Karen Mulder (his girlfriend at the time) on the floor after she attempted suciide. Mulder blew the lid off the rampant rape and sexual abuse that she and her modeling colleagues had suffered at the hands of businessmen, royalty, celebrities, and government officials. She was even the protege of Epstein collaborator (allegedly), Jean Luc Brunel (https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/article238351108.html).
Le Marg Willie: No info found.
Lea, Piers: CEO of Learning Technologies Group, a workplace digital learning company.
Leeds, Jeffrey: Co-founder and Managing Partner of Leeds Equity. One of Leeds Equity’s partner companies is Endeavor Schools, which runs private preschools, primary schools, and secondary schools in Florida and 11 other states (https://www.leedsequity.com/news/articles/leeds-equity-partners-completes-investment-in-endeavor-schools). They are also partners with Fusion Educational Group (now Fusion Academy), which runs a chain of private secondary schools (https://www.leedsequity.com/news/articles/leeds-equity-partners-completes-investment-in-fusion-education-group). Former teacher Kris White, now the head of Fusion Academy in Palo Alto, allegedly told a student that he was in love with her and wrote her a note saying he was “obsessed” with her. (https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/07/12/teachers-named-in-presentation-high-sex-investigation-kept-working-as-bay-area-educators-for-years/). This story was just published on July 12, 2020. Hypothetically, if one wanted to procure underage children, it would certainly help if the head of the school was on board and possibly a pedophile himself. According to this former teacher at Fusion Academy, “many students struggle with learning differences, behavioral issues, and/or addictions” (https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Employee-Review-Fusion-Academy-RVW21260629.htm). In other words, the downtrodden and vulnerable. Fusion Academy refers to itself as a non-traditional school that focuses on individual students. Seems like a great opportunity. Leeds was also good friends with Epstein (https://nymag.com/nymetro/news/people/n_7912/) and has close ties to Colin Powell and Rudy Giuliani (https://nypost.com/2016/09/14/colin-powell-wont-vote-for-her-because-of-bill-clinton/).
Lefcourt, Jerry: Famous lawyer who defended Epstein in 2007. That same year, Epstein donated $250,000 to the Washington-based Foundation for Criminal Justice, where Lefcourt was a board member.
Lester, Dominick: Founder and owner of MortgageFlex Systems, a mortgage lending company.
Levine, Phillip: Ex-Miami Beach mayor and close friend of Bill and Hillary Clinton. He claims that he doesn’t know how Epstein got his contact information… all 13 phone numbers, including those of his driver and housekeepers (https://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/ex-miami-beach-mayor-philip-levine-listed-13-times-in-jeffrey-epsteins-black-book-11242116)!
Liman, Doug: Popular Hollywood director and producer. He directed Swingers, The Bourne Identity, and a couple of Tom Cruise movies.

Her husband, Roger, is the founder of beauty.com and Chairman and CEO of Shaklee, a highly successful nutrition company. Donald Trump, Melania Trump, and Ghislaine Maxwell all attended the publication party for Sloan’s book in 2008 (https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/ghislaine-maxwell-anton-katz-and-robin-katz-attend-sloan-news-photo/619921016 ; https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/donald-trump-melania-trump-sloan-barnett-and-roger-barnett-news-photo/619921180).Other guests included Steve Mnuchin, Epstein and Maxwell chum Carol Mack, and a bunch of others also featured in Epstein’s ‘Black Book’ (Colin Cowie, Anton and Robin Katz, and Vittorio Assaf).

Lindemann, George(Sr.) & Freida: Now-deceased billionaire father of Sloan and Adam. George was the CEO and Chairman of Southern Union, a pipeline company and served as Vice President of the Metropolitan Opera Association of NYC. His wife, Frayda, is the President and CEO of the Metropolitan Opera.
Lindsay, Alex & Jaclyn: Alex is a war documentary maker who rents out his loft at the address Epstein has listed (https://www.independent.co.uk/property/house-and-home/property/spheres-of-influence-72014.html).
