2024.06.04 22:57 Apple_Kappa An exclusive neoliberal report from the Oslo Freedom Forum (Day 1 and 2)

Hello /neoliberal, it's Ringo from American Purpose. For the last two days, I have been at the Oslo Freedom Forum which is basically Davos/WEF for liberal democrats and people passionate about human rights. Here are some notable highlights from the last two days. I wish I could cover it all but it would be extremely long.
Day 1:
The speech by Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad and three protesters from the Women Life Freedom protests who have suffered permanent injuries was really powerful. I am normally not a fan of slam poetry style speeches, but the delivery was really powerful.
Venezuelan activist, Olga Gonzalez spoke about how her husband was murdered by the Maduro regime and how she was able to get a proper forensic investigation before the cops could cover it up. Strong reminder to everyone about the thuggish nature of the Venezuelan regime and to their enablers.
A peace activist Ahmed Alkhatib from Gaza who lost 30 of his relatives and friends since October 7th. Despite all the suffering he has endured, he has gave a clearsighted and much needed nuance analysis about the inhumanity and devastation going on in Israel-Palestine. Afterwards, the OFF showed a song from the Jerusalem Youth Chorus which was quite touching, especially after listening to such a devastating speech.
Uganda human rights lawyer Agather Atuhaire, Investigative journalist Carlos Chamorro from Nicaragua, and Sam Rainsy, leader of the main opposition party from Cambodia talked about the increased oppression and blatant thuggery from their governments. The authoritarian crackdowns in these countries are not given as much attention as Israel-Palestine, Ukraine, Venezuela, or China but it is quite evident that these two countries deserve much more attention.
Afterwards, I attended a panel featuring Bill Browder called Defeating the Enablers which I do not think was broadcasted, but it highlighted the blatant moral bankruptcy of many law and PR firms that still to this day act as foot soldiers for China and Russia.
Day 2:
Sebastien Lai, son of Jimmy Lai of Apple Daily in Hong Kong spoke on the 35th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre recalled the massacre and ruthless crackdown of the Hong Kong protests.
Zhala Bayramova, daughter of imprisoned and tortured Azerbaijani activist, Gubad Ibadoghlu spoked about her father's brutal condition and the horrifying situation of the Aliyev regime. The reason why this was most surprising is because Azerbaijan, even many of the dissidents from my personal experience are extremely nationalistic by default and very illiberal. Gubad and Zhala most definitely do not fit this category in the slightest. They are as woke as they come and I mean it in a good way. Also, Zhala studies at the same university as me! If possible, I would like to do an exclusive /neoliberal interview with her sometime in the future.
On a lighter note, there was Jack Dorsey, the most hated jannie in the history of the internet. He is looking more like a guru and I would not be surprised if he was as high as a kite and I will be honest, much of what he was saying was over my head as tech is my great weakness. However, he said something interesting which I am trying to think about which is that "The free speech debate is a complete distraction, the real debate should be about free will because we are being programmed right now."
The last event I attended was a workshop on Counter Speech which is how to deal with dangerous speech without censorship. I was actually surprised with how useful this workshop was, it outlined a clear strategy for multiple scenarios on dealing with hate speech and the tactics that work and do not work. There were cases of politicians saying dogwhistles and 4chan level hate speech. However, the number one reason I suggest people attend workshops like this is not just for its strategic value, but you really have to work with older folks who have never had to deal with 4chan/Twitter tier garbage to come up with a solution.
Overall, the first two days at OFF have been worth the trip. Anyone who is genuinely passionate about turning neoliberal politics from a hobby into a skill should 100% take a vacation to Oslo one of these days, especially if you live in Europe. I did not talk about this as much, but meeting people from all over the world from so many backgrounds makes this worthwhile as well, especially in activism, law, private sector, academia, journalism, and politics. I would argue that this is even more significant and impactful than the speeches, panels, and workshops themselves.

Okay so my bike chain snapped whilst I was in third gear, I pushed it home (luckily not far) my bike won’t start unless it’s in neutral (from factory) now my issue is that after the chain has snapped by bikes doesn’t seem to want to change gears, I can go between 2 and 3 but for some reason it doesn’t show up on the gear indicator. What might be causing this, my chain will be fitted tomorrow so hopefully this isn’t a ball ache to sort out. I read elsewhere online that the gears won’t change u less the front sprocket/ transmission is able to move (can’t do that without a chain)

First of all, thank you for taking the time to read this and help me, i appreciate it a lot. I am currently learning both JPA and Hibernate fundamentals, trying to learn and understand the basics from scratch so that i can later understand bigger concepts. To be more specific, right now i'm focused on entity states, EntityManger operations and the Persistence Context. While i was playing around these topics with some dummy code examples, several doubts began to arrive to my mind and i would appreciate if someone was able to clear them and explain the correct behavior.
Firstly, so that you can have some context, i will explain my current mental model regarding the persistence context, entity states and EntityManager operations because maybe what's wrong is not the code, it's my mental approach. Basically, an entity can be in 4 states: transient (new entity), managed/persistent (the entity is in the context), detached (an entity that was previously in the context but not anymore) and removed (an entity that it's still in the context but has been marked for removal).
When it comes to the basic EntityManager operations, this is what i understand: EntityManger.persist(e) adds an entity to the context (the entity becomes managed), EntityManger.remove(e) marks an entity (already managed) for removal (the entity will be in the removed state), if you call persist again it will become managed again and will not be removed. And finally, EntityManager.detach(e) takes the entity out of the context, which means that unflushed changes to that entity will be ignored because the context no longer manages the entity.
All these operations will be mirrored to the database when a flush happens or when the commit of the transaction happens. Next, i will provide several examples which i don't understand and hopefully you can help me learn from them :D.
For the examples, i have a basic entity (Employee), which has the following structure:

And my Main.java code to play around is this:

Here are the examples:
Employee e = new Employee(); e.setId(1); em.persist(e); em.detach(e);
Taking into account that the "employees" table is empty, using the approach that i explained before what i expect to happen is: an entity of Employee called "e" will be created (transient state). After the persist call the entity will be added to the context, changing its state to managed. Finally, the entity will be removed from the context becoming detached due to the detach call. This would mean that, by the time the commit of the transaction happens, the context should be empty and no entity should be inserted. However, i am getting the following error:
ERROR: HHH000099: an assertion failure occurred (this may indicate a bug in Hibernate, but is more likely due to unsafe use of the session): org.hibernate.AssertionFailure: possible non-threadsafe access to session.
I know that in the real world it wouldn't make sense to detach an instance after persisting (without flushing first), but it's just for understanding the behavior correctly :).

For this example, let's suppose that in the employees table we already have a row with id=1. In this case, this is what i expect to happen: a new entity with transient state will be created. It will be added to the context, changing its state to managed since the persistence context will keep track of it. However, with the remove call we mark that entity for removal, changing its state to removed. By the time the commit happens, in the context we should have the entity with the removed state, so the remove operation should be the one that happens. However, this is what's actually happening:
Hibernate: insert into employees (address,name,id) values (?,?,?).
And this will throw an exception because an entry with id "1" already exists in the database. Why is an insert happening? Shouldn't just the remove operation be propagated to the database?

Given an empty employees table in the database, what i expect to happen with this code is a single insert query, with id=1 and address="New address". The reasoning behind it is this: the persist operation adds the entity to the context, becoming a managed entity. With the setAddress call, we changed the value of that same managed entity. By the time the commit happens, we will have a managed entity that has id=1 and address="New address". However, when i execute the code, it generates two queries (first insert with address=null and then update with address="New address") instead of just inserting the entity with id=1 and address="New address". Why is this happening like this? All the context sees is a managed entity with those values.

In this example, this is what i expect to happen: first of all the newly created entity will be added to the context. By calling em.clear(), we remove e from the context, becoming detached. After that, we pass the instance to the remove method, which according to the docs should throw an exception if a detached instanced is passed. But that's not the case. Something strange is happening: first of all, a select query is triggered, trying to find that same entity in the database. If the entity is not found in the database, the call will not trigger any exception. If the entity is in the database, an exception of "Removing a detached instance..." will be called (expected result). Shouldn't the exception be thrown in both cases? Because in both cases the entity is detached.
If instead of clearing the context i use the detach function, an exception will be called for both cases (if the entity is in the database or not). What's happening?
  1. And the last one is just a question. Given a managed entity in the context, how does the context know if he should insert an Entity or leave it like it is? For example:
    Employee e = new Employee(); e.setId(1);
    Employee managedEntity = em.merge(e);
    em.persist(managedEntity); em.detach(managedEntity); em.persist(managedEntity);
Let's suppose that a row with id=1 already exists in the database. With the merge operation we copy the state of the "e" instance into a managed entity (it will trigger a select to the database to get that instance) and returns the managed instance. With the first persist call we add that entity to the context, which will be ignored because the entity is already managed. After that, we remove that instance of the context, becoming detached. Then, we add it again using persist.
My expected behavior should be that nothing happens because the entity already exists in the database, but what's actually happening is that an insert is being triggered. However, if i only leave the first persist (and remove the detach and second persist calls) no insert will happen. What's the difference? In both cases the entity is managed, why is the end result different?
I know this was a very long post and i completely understand if you don't feel like reading that much. Any bit of help would mean the world to me :D.

The price might look attractive, but if u never gonna receive your order, it doesn't matter how low u pay for them.
I fell for this scam 2.5 years ago, like many fellas here, I still haven't recieved my kits. 2.5 years is not "slow", or a "delay", or an excuse for a "one man operation", it's a straight up money grabbing scam.
If u ordered something within the last 3 months, you need to go get your refund from your institution right now. He knows if he delays long enough u are not able to get our money back. In my case, Paypal and Visa won't pay me back because it's been a long past 3 months.
The unfortunate thing is that I did do my research, and he was still fulfilling orders back then, just need to wait 6 to 12 months. I think he just started to become a scammer around the time I ordered.
I actually went to Japan 1.5 years ago, I could've gotten my kits but since it's been only a year at that time, I thought I would get my kits from him anytime soon. Now the Yokohama Factory is closed, I will never be able to get those exclusive kits.
I saw some people's orders are in the #14000 range now, mine is close to #10000. Which means since I ordered, he has another 4000+ people buying from him, imagine how much money he scammed. If each order is $100 that's 400k right there.
I still see facebook and instagram promoting his business from time to time, it's ridiculous, everytime I see those ads I report it as a scam.
His behavior is unacceptable, I already gave up, but I am so frustrated every time I think about this experience, and seeing him updating this Facebook page daily and removing people's comment by the hour.
Such a terrible human being for doing this to gunpla lovers.

Where do you find tonnage on commercial HVAC units?
I honestly feel dumb for asking, but on this unit for example. For residential applications I would see the number "38" in the model number is figure, okay this is a 3 ton unit. But obviously this is not a 3 ton unit. So without looking up the model number on Google, is there a way to tell anywhere on the data plate?

2024.06.04 15:03 Puginator Elon Musk ordered Nvidia to ship AI chips reserved for Tesla to X and xAI

Elon Musk claims he can grow Tesla into “a leader in AI & robotics,” an ambition that he’s said will require a lot of pricey processors from Nvidia to build up its infrastructure.
On Tesla’s first-quarter earnings call in April, Musk said the electric vehicle company will increase the number of active H100s — Nvidia’s flagship artificial intelligence chip — from 35,000 to 85,000 by the end of this year. He also wrote in a post on X a few days later that Tesla would spend $10 billion this year “in combined training and inference AI.”
But emails written by Nvidia senior staff and widely shared inside the company suggest that Musk presented an exaggerated picture of Tesla’s procurement to shareholders. Correspondence from Nvidia staffers also indicates that Musk diverted a sizable shipment of AI processors that had been reserved for Tesla to his social media company X, formerly known as Twitter.
By ordering Nvidia to let privately held X jump the line ahead of Tesla, Musk pushed back the automaker’s receipt of more than $500 million in graphics processing units, or GPUs, by months, likely adding to delays in setting up the supercomputers Tesla says it needs to develop autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots.
“Elon prioritizing X H100 GPU cluster deployment at X versus Tesla by redirecting 12k of shipped H100 GPUs originally slated for Tesla to X instead,” an Nvidia memo from December said. “In exchange, original X orders of 12k H100 slated for Jan and June to be redirected to Tesla.”
A more recent Nvidia email, from late April, said Musk’s comment on the first-quarter Tesla call “conflicts with bookings” and that his April post on X about $10 billion in AI spending also “conflicts with bookings and FY 2025 forecasts.” The email referenced news about Tesla’s ongoing, drastic layoffs and warned that headcount reductions could cause further delays with an “H100 project” at Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory.
The new information from the emails, read by CNBC, highlights an escalating conflict between Musk and some agitated Tesla shareholders who question whether the billionaire CEO is fulfilling his obligations to Tesla while also running a collection of other companies that require his attention, resources and hefty amounts of capital.
A spokesperson for Nvidia declined to comment for this story. Musk and representatives for X and Tesla did not respond to requests for comment.
Critics have said Musk is only a part-time CEO of Tesla, the company responsible for the vast majority of his wealth. Musk is also the CEO of aerospace company SpaceX, the founder of brain-computer interface startup Neuralink and tunneling venture The Boring Co. He also owns X, which he acquired for $44 billion in late 2022, when it was still called Twitter. He launched his AI startup, xAI, in 2023.
X and xAI are tightly intertwined. In a post on X in November, Musk wrote, “X Corp investors will own 25% of xAI.” Additionally, xAI uses some capacity in X data centers to run some of its training and inference for the large language models behind its chatbot, called Grok, CNBC has learned.
Musk has pitched Grok, originally named Truth GPT, as a politically incorrect chatbot with “a rebellious streak” and a would-be competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other generative AI services.
While Musk juggles his many ventures, Tesla shareholders have reason for concern. The company is in the midst of a troubling sales decline due in part to its aging lineup of electric vehicles and increased competition. Its reputation has also suffered in the U.S., according to the Axios Harris Poll 100 survey, which attributed some of the slippage to Musk’s “antics” and “political rants.”
Tesla’s stock price is down 29% this year.
Rather than discuss EV sales or the massive restructuring underway at Tesla, Musk has been encouraging investors to focus on future products that he’s been promising for years but has yet to deliver. That includes AI software to turn existing cars into self-driving vehicles, dedicated robotaxis that can make money for their owners, and a driverless transportation network.
“If somebody doesn’t believe Tesla’s going to solve autonomy, I think they should not be an investor in the company,” Musk said on the April earnings call. “We will, and we are.”
To get there, he’s said, Tesla requires plenty of Nvidia’s GPUs which are specialized for AI training and workloads. Those chips are in limited supply due to soaring demand from Google, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI and others.
‘Consuming every GPU that’s out there’
Nvidia, now the third-most-valuable company in the world with a $2.8 trillion market cap, has said it’s hard to keep up with demand. Between the cloud service providers and the companies developing AI models, customers “are consuming every GPU that’s out there,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said on an earnings call in May, after the chipmaker reported its third straight quarter of more than 200% revenue growth.
Huang also said, on an earnings call in February, that Nvidia does its best to “allocate fairly and to avoid allocating unnecessarily,” adding “why allocate something when the data center’s not ready?”
In naming customers that are already using Nvidia’s next-generation Blackwell platform, Huang mentioned xAI on the May call alongside six of the biggest tech companies on the planet as well as Tesla.
Musk likes to tout his infrastructure spending at both companies.
At Tesla, Musk has promised to build a $500 million “Dojo” supercomputer in Buffalo, New York, and a “super dense, water-cooled supercomputer cluster” at the company’s factory in Austin, Texas. The technology would potentially help Tesla develop the computer vision and LLMs needed for robots and autonomous vehicles.
At xAI, which is racing to compete with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and others in developing generative AI products, Musk is also seeking to build “the world’s largest GPU cluster” in North Dakota, with some capacity online in June, according to an internal Nvidia email from February.
The memo described a “Musk mandate” to make all 100,000 chips available to xAI by the end of 2024. It noted that the LLM behind xAI’s Grok was relying on Amazon and Oracle cloud infrastructure, with X providing additional data center capacity.

On May 26, xAI said it closed a $6 billion financing round led by many of the same investors who funded Musk’s Twitter takeover. The company was incorporated in March 2023, but Tesla didn’t disclose its formation at the time, and it was four months later before Musk publicly introduced the startup.
Conflicts of interest
While Musk has said for years that Tesla is a leader in AI, he wrote in a post on X in January that he’d want more control over the company before pushing further in that direction.
“I am uncomfortable growing Tesla to be a leader in AI & robotics without having ~25% voting control. Enough to be influential, but not so much that I can’t be overturned,” he said in the post.
Tesla’s latest proxy filing indicates Musk has 20.5% of the company’s outstanding shares, a figure that includes options awarded to Musk as part of his unprecedented 2018 CEO pay package. A Delaware court has ordered that compensation to be rescinded. Post-trial proceedings are ongoing and subject to appeal.
If he is unable to reach his desired ownership mark, Musk said in the January post, he “would prefer to build products outside of Tesla.” He’s already doing that at xAI.
Musk’s comments at the time rankled some longstanding bulls, including the company’s largest retail shareholder, Leo Koguan, and Gerber Kawasaki’s Ross Gerber, who characterized his demand as “blackmail.”
Joel Fleming, a securities litigator at Equity Litigation Group, said that by letting his private companies skip ahead of Tesla in procuring critical hardware, Musk is making his conflicts of interest readily apparent.
“When you have someone like Mr. Musk who is a fiduciary to multiple companies, the law recognizes this creates conflict,” Fleming said. “If you owe fiduciary duties to two or more companies that are competing over the same things, you may end up channeling corporate opportunity away from one company to another.”
Fleming, who frequently represents public company investors in shareholder disputes, said that in such situations, other executives would be in the best position to make decisions, while those who are conflicted should abstain.
“That has not historically been the path that Mr. Musk has chosen for himself,” Fleming said.
Musk hasn’t been shy about intermingling corporate resources among his companies.
For example, following his buyout of Twitter, Musk enlisted dozens of Autopilot software engineers and other technical and administrative employees from Tesla to help him make sweeping changes at the company. Some employees even work for two Musk companies at once.
At xAI, Musk has also attracted employees away from Tesla, including machine-learning scientist Ethan Knight, and at least four other former Tesla employees who had been involved in Autopilot and big data projects there before joining the startup.
A former Tesla supply chain analyst, who asked not to be named in order to discuss sensitive matters, told CNBC that Musk has always considered his companies as an extension of his persona and believed he can do whatever he wants with them. That includes Tesla’s 2016 acquisition of SolarCity, where he was chairman and a top shareholder.
However, the person said, redirecting a large shipment of chips from Tesla to X is extreme, given the scarcity of Nvidia’s technology. The decision means the automaker willingly gave up precious time that could have been used to build out its supercomputer cluster in Texas or New York and advance the models behind its self-driving software and robotics.

My husband has a company with 7 employees and he was doing so well the past 5 years . Few weeks ago I started discussing planning a birthday party for my self with my friends my husband gave me a quite good budget but things kept falling out of place such as venue not available ,dj booked , planner busy etc. I settled for taking my few friends to a fancy restaurant but ever since then & my husbands work has failed overnight .
The platform he uses suspended his 3 accounts , everything started to shut down to the point where he almost had to lay off employees, close his business and file for bankruptcy as operations costs are expensive when there isn't income.
While planning my bday my mom said don't do it you had a fancy baby shower this year , a post baby party and now this they will give u the evil eye .. it resonated with me and I kept thinking of it in the back of my head.
After about two weeks of the business failing etc .. I remembered what my mom said and decided to lie to my friends and say that my husband got laid off from his job and that I need to cancel the party due to financials. 2 days later my husband was able to retrieve 2 of his account , and everything started to fall in place , he no longer have to close his business and operations are back on .
Now, my husband got so offended that I made him look bad and told my friends that he was laid off from his main job he said u could have said something came up.
I explained to him my intuition and how doing this can reverse the hasad and evil eye 👁️ ( he thinks I'm crazy now) . He is angry at me for making him look bad but atleast I feel better and feel that I have resolved the issue and my intuition says I did the right thing ...

1、FFIE Needs Strategic Investors: What is a strategic investor? I believe they should:
a. Have a long-term perspective, not a short-term one;
b. Be strategic in nature, not purely financial;
c. Be deeply involved in the company, sharing risks, not merely dividing them;
d. FFIE as the recipient of their investment, requiring both capital and other resources, while ceding some control. Strategic investors aim for long-term objectives such as business expansion, entering new markets, or acquiring technology or resources, rather than seeking immediate financial gains.
2、Current Institutional Investors Are Not Strategic: The current institutional investors might sell off their shares during a significant price increase, acting as bears and draining resources from retail investors. They might leverage difficult times for FFIE to demand higher returns, seeking short-term gains. They may also require guarantees during additional investment rounds to ensure their safety, even if FFIE faces bankruptcy or liquidation. These investors are not adequate for FFIE’s further growth.
3、FFIE Still Needs Financial Support: This should be seen as a bearish signal. From Jia Yueting’s video, it’s clear that FFIE’s current cash flow cannot sustain production and delivery, even with the “high brand, high gross profit” approach, due to insufficient capital for self-sustaining operations. Without strategic investors and continued financial input, Jia Yueting seems to believe that FFIE cannot survive.
4、Significant Investment Is Very Necessary: Although not an exorbitant amount, FFIE still requires substantial or strategic investments. I am a glasses girl. You can often find me with multiple pairs on my desk, in my car and in may bags. I switch up glasses based on my outfit. I got a Puzzle from HP last year which has become my everyday bag and felt that glasses from my optometrist and EyeBuyDirect really don’t match the bag. u/MrStealYourMemes69 wrote a fantastic Review on Vincent’s glasses which motivated me to step my eye wear up a notch.

4/17/2024 I reached out to Janie on to see if she had the SL frames. She Immediately responded that she had them and sent me the album and quoted me a price for frames and lenses.
I decided I might as well get 2 pair.
5/15/2024 I decided on the GM x MM and explained I was ready to purchase. Yes it took me a month to decide on another pair.
She requested a copy of my RX and PD and told me it would take a week to make the lenses due to my prescription. I have astigmatism and add was +1.50. My RX does not list my PD number so I called my eye doctor to get this info. My optometrist charged me $35 to measure the PD for my last glasses. Janie advised that my lenses are normally $60 but she will honor the $55 originally quoted.
5/16/2024 I was given a AE link to make purchase. Please note that the glasses on the site do not match what was ordered. I was told to order 2 of 2 different types of frames to bring order to the total that was quoted. It was a little confusing but everything worked out
5/25/2024 Glasses were shipped
6/1/2024 I received order!
Price Paid for Item:
$55 for each pair of frames.
It was an additional $55 for Gray Transition Prescription Lenses for the S*int L*urent and $45 for Clear Prescription Lenses for the G*ntle M*nster. My prescription was for progressive multifocal lenses for both frames.

Quality
The quality is very nice. Having owned acetate and regular plastic frames in the past, these feel like the advertised acetate. They both have good weight to them. I find acetate glasses to be smoother and more dense than regular plastic. The logos are etched in like the authentic and appear to be in the correct position.
Accuracy
GM x MM
My GM X MM frames are tilted forward a little. They kinda look tilted forward on the model in the website for the Auth. The side view on the Auth site does not look like there is a tilt. If this makes any sense. The auth and factory photos show a white case for the glasses. I was given a Black Case. This is a minor detail for me. I will be lucky if I can remember to use the case. The case is squishy. I don’t know what the Auth case is like but I feel like it should be harder.
SL 545
The Saint Laurent look identical to the auth online. You can not see the logo on the temples for the Auth online in black. However if you look at the yellow pair of the SL 545 you can see that Saint Laurent it etched on the temples. I am not the best QC’er but these look 1:1 to me.
The prescription of both pair are perfect. I got transition lenses darken to grey in the sunlight and are transparent indoors for the SL pair. The GM are transparent lenses and have a faint yellow hue like the ones from my ophthalmologist.
Rep Satisfaction
I am in love! I was so excited to receive these as it’s been on my wish list for a while. That being said was a little worried because I could not find anyone other than u/Migorengegg who had used this seller. However I am over the moon with the quality.

The Wrap Up
Run! Don’t walk. I had a fabulous experience with this seller for Prescription glasses. will say if you see something on the AUTH site but not in Janies album it is worth sending her a screen shot of the frames you are looking for. I couldn't find the SL in her album. My son now wants a pair of GM that I did not see in the album that she say's she has. FYI she quoted me $20 for blue light blocking lenses. That's a little steep compare to Vincent.
