I used to actually enjoy this job at least in the slightest but the past 2-3 years the work environment has been on a constant decline. I can’t be the only person who’s absolutely slammed on a Saturday/Sunday and so tired of having no fkn help. Like how cheap are these corporate fucks, that they can’t pay a part timer to at least work 5 hours on a Saturday anymore. Just ridiculous in my eyes. Especially on top of all the dumbass changes they make, pro+ for example is a waste but they believed it would be the best thing ever.

Need Advice on Fair Rate for Last-Minute Flush Wood Vents Installation
During the installation, I mentioned the option of flush wood air vents, and the client said she would think about it. That was weeks ago (been working there on and off) and don’t understand why they waited. Four days ago, she informed me that she had went ahead and ordered them on Amazon. I told her I would likely be staining Friday-Saturday and She mentioned that if they didn’t arrive in time before staining, she would return them. The vents ended up arriving during lunch yesterday, on the day I was set to stain the floors. She pulls up to the job with the box like “look what I got” and then proceeds to lay them all out in their respective place. I was done edging and had even palm sanded everything, all that was left was screening. Pretty mad right now since the whole point of working Saturday was to stain and let it dry over Sunday.
Now, I need to install 9 flush vents throughout the house. This change means that, at the very least, I’ll need an additional day to complete the project, if not more.
What would be a fair rate to charge her for all this additional work so late in the project. Should I charge her hourly, per vent, or a flat fee? I want to be fair but also cover the extra time and effort this last-minute change has caused.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi all,
I am just curious what people are reading/listening to through the library and the Libby app.
I've been listening to all sorts of books, especially on long drives or working out, and would love some recommendations of your favorites available through them. I just finished American Gods and Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman on there, and then listened to an autobiography, Inverse Cowgirl by Alicia Roth Weigel. I've listened to poetry books, dabbled in other myths like Circe and Song of Achilles and A Thousand Ships. I've been listening to Colson Whitehead lately too, but for some reason can't latch onto Harlem Shuffle. But for every book I find, there are several others that are all checked out or unavailable altogether.
So yeah, what are the best listens? (And reads available online too)
Anything tangentially similar to anything above would be great, but I am also interested in history or classic lit or smut. Thanks in advance, Buffalo!

Viking Cruise in Rome on a Sunday - Sistine Chapel Closed - Alternatives?
Looking for any advice for someone who has dealt with this or may have suggestions for tour operators to make up for the itinerary's day in Rome being a Sunday...
I have booked Viking Ocean's Cities of Antiquity itinerary for two client groups, sailing on October 19. I was working on back-up shore excursions for them in case they can't get one arranged by Viking and realized that their Day 2 (the day in Rome) is a Sunday, which means the Sistine Chapel will be closed and there are several other tourism restrictions in the Vatican.
Based on what is marketed on the website for this itinerary - ~specifically~ for Day 2 options (screenshots below) - clients (and me!) were led to believe that there are several opportunities to see the Sistine Chapel (through both included and add-on excursions; screenshots below) on Oct. 20.
I understand that what is shown on the website are examples and we won't know what is actually offered until July 4 (the day their room class opens), but as you might imagine my clients are incensed by what they perceive as deceptive marketing, since come July 4 there will be nothing for the Sistine Chapel offered (or, if it is, it will be offered in error given the closure).
I am trying to figure out an alternative for both sets of clients, and called Viking this morning to discuss. The clients were hoping they could arrive on their Viking-arranged air (with Air Plus already paid for) on Saturday, Oct. 19 and have their bags transferred to the ship so they could stay in Rome and explore the Vatican / Sistine Chapel then, but I was told that Viking will not transfer their bags without them.
This means the only option seems to be for my clients to seek an air deviation, fly in a day or two early, forgo the transfers they've paid for, and coordinate their own tours / accommodations / transfers. Or take the risk of flying in super early on Saturday (Oct. 19) and try to squeeze a tour in that day - again on their own since Viking will only transfer them directly from the airport to the port, and since the port is at least an hour away, they would have to take the Viking transfer to the port, drop their bags, and then try and head back into Rome. That makes no sense.
Understandably, my clients feel backed into a corner based on the marketing and itinerary materials they reviewed in good faith. I have booked Viking cruises before, but am not a Rome expert, so didn't know this was going to be an issue. And, based on the Viking marketing for that specific day of the itinerary, I have no idea how anyone would suspect this to be the case.
Has anyone taken this itinerary (or a similar one where their in-Rome day is a Sunday) and found a great tour operator who will pick them up at the airport, give them a tour of the Vatican / Sistine chapel, and they bring them to the Civitavecchia port by late afternoon?

2024.05.19 21:29 lumino6198 Hypersensitive and feeling sad for no reason

Hi guys, I (F26) was diagnosed with adhd a few years ago and I am also awaiting an assessment for ASD via clinical partners. I’ve been on a good meds dose for a few years and feel confident I am medicated effectively. I’m actually a registered MH nurse and I work with a lot of patients with adhd/ASD so I do have some good clinical knowledge but mainly seeking support/validation here.
I keep getting really sad and upset for no reason. I say no reason, because it feels like that - but actually what I’m getting sad/upset about is in-animate objects lol. I keep feeling sorry fofeeling sad for everyday objects. Examples:
  1. There are two bus companies in my area, company A and company B. Yesterday I had a discounted ticket for company A, but bus company B pulled up at the stop I was waiting at, assuming I was getting on. I didn’t get on as I wanted to get on a bus from company A. The bus then drove away and I then spent a long time feeling sad incase the bus/bus driver felt rejected.
  2. I am very susceptible to “cute” marketing, anything with a smiley face on the branding and I instantly feel bad for it if it gets any bad press or bad reviews. To the point where I will buy products/services that I have heard bad reviews about just becuase I feel sorry for the smiley face.
  3. This can also happen with non-inanimate objects. Sometimes I have a negative thought about someone eg “they’re really annoying” and then the minute they stop being annoying I start to feel really bad for them and hope that they never find out that I had a bad thought about them, because I don’t want them to be sad.
Weirdly the stuff that’s designed to incite these feelings doesn’t really do it for me. I don’t cry at “sad” Facebook videos like families being reunited, or films that everyone else cries at. I will feel empathy for people if they’re going through something crap, and I of course work with a lot of patients who have some real emotional stories. But nothing quite hits the same as the emotions I’ll feel if I worry I’ve ignored a teddy in my spare bedroom for too long.
I know this all sounds trivial but it genuinely has negatively impacted my life. I’ve stayed in toxic relationships because I’ve got wrapped up in imagining my partner being really sad and upset and alone, which has caused me to stay with them for far too long. I’ve missed out on things or been moody/lost in thought in situations where I would have preferred to be more present. To the outsider, it looks like I’m randomly just switching moods and getting sad for no reason, which in turn can make me difficult to be around at times.
Does anyone else experience this? How do you manage it? I do a lot of mindfulness work and I try my best to be present and rationalise etc, but it feels like the empathy part of my brain just can’t switch off/work properly
TLDR: I feel sad/lots of empathy for everyday objects or imagining other people being sad, which can ruin my day more than genuine sad events

2024.05.19 21:27 Embarrassed_Roll_728 Fired on disability

In California I was fired three times from the same company while out on disability. I didn’t return to work while out on disability but received three separate termination letters all months apart with different dates. My supervisor was actually the one who recommended that I go out due to some traumatic events so that I wouldn’t lose my job since I didn’t qualify for fmla. While out on disability the company texted me nonstop asking when I was returning. They would occasionally say my fmla was denied and I would reply that I know, I’m on disability not fmla. They never once provided me with a form they needed. My doctor filled out all the forms they faxed to her and she has to confirmations that they went through. I reached out to them asking if they had everything they needed from me and they did not reply. My first termination stated I went AWOL. I asked them to explain this further and stated the above info to them. My second termination two months later was for not turning in required documents, which I had asked for and never got a response to. I even called and was told someone would call back. A week later no one called back so I called again. Same thing. The third termination I didn’t even bother to read because why at this point. My doctor suggested suing them for wrongful termination because the constant contacting and texting me truly did worsen my symptoms from stress and anxiety and caused me to be out longer. Is this even worth filing a lawsuit over? I’m sure the company has great attorneys on hand. I don’t even know if I could win. Just looking for opinions or suggestions I guess.
Eta: I could probably fight to get my job back but I feel it would be so toxic against me at this point that I don’t want to go back even though I loved working there and enjoyed the work I did. I was also complimented on my work and had never received a write up or any negative feedback. I was good at my job and I love working in general and feeling productive. So being out in disability hasn’t been a fun vacation and I was looking forward to going back. I’ve never in my life been fired before so I have no idea how to explain this in job interviews.

2024.05.19 21:27 SouthernBreakfast261 Alcoholic last 8 years - too late?

Hi all,
I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and loving this summer weather! I just wanted to share my story with alcohol and get everyone’s thoughts.
My story is probably pretty similar to a lot of people. I started off “drinking” in high school around 17. It was like once every 4/5 months when someone mom would let everyone over to drink “as long as we didn’t drive”. Back then 4 bud lights had me feeling great. Fast forward and I start at a large state university. Drinking 10+ drinks in a sitting was three times a week. Thirsty Thursday, Fridays, and every single Saturday. We drank to get drunk and we did not fail at it. That went on for my 4 years of college. During college I mainly drank well mixed drinks and shitty beer. Once I graduated, I moved home and the pandemic started and I didn’t work for about a year. My drinking habits remained the same. Over the next 4 years I continued to drink (mainly beer) 2 days a week (likely 12-15 beers in each sitting with a couple glasses of bourbon or whiskey every few weeks or so. I probably drink 30-40 drinks a week but all in about 2-3 days).
I feel like it is too late for me. I scheduled a doctors appointment that’s in a month and I’m scared shitless. My anxious mind tells me I’m definitely going to have cirrhosis. I am now 2 weeks sober and really am committed to a life of sobriety going forward. I did the speedrun on a drinking career. I won’t be able to just enjoy a sunset martini with my wife, I need 15 of them. I am okay with ditching the alcohol I just worried the damage has been done and it’s too late. Funny how our perspective changes once we get sober.
TLDR; I’ve been a serious drinker for 8 years and am scared it’s too late for me.
God bless.

2024.05.19 21:27 mindcatwaterman Attorneys Defending RNs to Board of Nursing TN & MS

I do not seek law ADVICE, only legal information. - What law allows, states, its application, etc... & FILING specs...
U spend all day, every day reading you DONT WANT TO READ THIS. But THIS IS TRULY A CLUSTER FCK CHALLENGE, I do mass tort/consulting stuff... not my bag... & I've put in UNGODLY AMOUNT of hours of research into this. I'm throwing a hail marry. Maybe you deal w/ this sht every day and the picture is super clear to you. You'd literally be saving me MONTHS more of research, if ya just threw a lil bone my way.... Dont even have to solve the whole dilemma... Just ONE liners will do. Any gem ya got. SKIP TO THE BOTTOM IF YA WANT THE SHORT VERSION.
Allow me to lay the fkd context. This info may answer questions you may need answered before you are able to appropriately navigate my salvation.
One ridiculous hypothetical scenario: RN is off duty, out w/ friends, EMS called > Narcan WRONGFULLY admin > occurs in TN, the same state in which she is currently employed; Is licensed in MS (a Compact State). No arrest, No charges. A PD report stating suspected OD. Sent to ER; No tox screen; Requests discharge; END OF EVENT.
The RN's position of the "facts" : There was no OD, regardless of who called 911 or what they may have thought or stated to get an ambulance there. There is NO evidence of intoxication, as their physical status could have been attributed to countless a diagnosis. States she was coherent and talking with the EMT prior to the Narcan admin; claims she verbally made EMT aware Narcan is contraindicated to a CONSCIOUS person, as she was NOT on any substance that would indicate the need of Naloxone/Narcan. Herself, being an RN, was qualified to make an informed decision. EMT administered anyway, RN stated that there was ZERO improvement in her condition, as she knew there would not be.
This may have been a decent argument, easy enough to explain to the TN Board of Nursing, who called upon RN for a Disciplinary Hearing- Privilege to Practice in jeopardy. HOWEVER, when the RN returned from a travel contract job out of state to her home, she found the letter informing her of this hearing ON THE DAY IT WAS SCHEDULED. She drove like a bat out of hell to TN BON; She arrived only 15 min after 5pm that day. She stayed the night in a hotel, where the next a.m. she was told TOO LATE. FINAL ORDER. By being absent, she forfeited her right to be heard/defend herself and the order has already been filed. But, not to worry terribly, bc she only lost her Privilege to Practice in TN, nothing had happened to her actual Nursing license.
FF to MS BON Hearing.... Not bc they heard or knew anything about EMS or ODosing- BC they were notified when she lost her priv to practice in a diff state. So, another hearing. RN goes to this one- She gives her defense. She was a nervous fkn mess, but in the end the MSBON orders: her to pay a fine, do some classes, some mental/phys eval, etc... ton of stuff that cost a ton of money. This hearing took place over ZOOM in the SLAM BAM middle of the COVID quarantine.
She didnt do it. ANy of it. So, of course, when they go to eval it a year later, she repsnded talking w/ them a few times about deadlines, extra time, ect- they dont budge, instead, slap her w/ another displ action: FRAUD. (Bc she agreed to do all that stuff by a certain date and didnt).
Short version/TLDR: Rn got wrongfully narcanned by EMS; lost priv to prac in a state bc she missed hearing; her home state board of nursing does a discplnry action on her due to loss of priv to prac- orders her to do a bunch of crap she didnt do in time, slap her w/ another discp action (fraud) for it. now, its been 3 years and she wants to get this shit straight.
The official standing of her license does NOT say REVOKED, it says, " ADMIN INACTIVE" & "Suspended"
Is it administratively eligible (by NPA laws) to do the things she was ordered to do and request new hearing? Past appeal date, any way circt court might just hear all this and order reinstatement, overriding the MSBONs final orders? (that ever happen to anyone successfully?)
fix the TN priv. to prac revoke before fixing MSBON licensure? or does that matter, procedurally?

Protecting Canadian Families: The Fear of Wandering and Loss in Dementia Care

Canadian families caring for a loved one with dementia often face the terrifying prospect of their family member wandering off or getting lost. As illustrated in the accompanying video, an elderly woman shopping for her granddaughter swiftly transitions from seeming in control to confusion and disorientation. This sudden shift leaves her begging strangers for assistance to return home. As day turns to night, her family realizes her absence, sparking a frantic search. While the family in the video successfully locates their lost loved one, in reality, the search can extend to hours, days, or even weeks for some families. Despite the absence of a cure for this daunting disease, we are fortunate to have technological advancements like personal GPS trackers. These innovations, while not a remedy, provide an invaluable tool in locating wandering individuals suffering from dementia, offering a lifeline to distressed families.
The dread and distress triggered by a missing loved one are almost too intense to bear, a sentiment the video articulately conveys. This fear has driven many to seek out real-time tracking devices equipped with GPS-enabled panic buttons. These devices quickly and securely locate a missing elderly loved one. For those aware that their elderly family members are demonstrating signs of dementia or other memory-related illnesses, installing a live GPS tracking unit permanently to the senior's vehicle can be an effective strategy. 2024.05.19 21:26 TOP_TIER Competitive Consensus: Sage

Intro

This thread is a discussion series at the tail end of the week for each newly introduced Spotlight card. This gives us nearly a week of hindsight to build a consensus and help inform players if they should open their caches for a given week. Ideally, we are looking for proven results (which can understandably be difficult to achieve in a week) more than theoretical applications to help reach this consensus, so players know what becomes less accessible to them after the Spotlight rotation.

This week's card: Sage

Energy: 3
Power: 0
On Reveal: +2 Power for each different Power among all other cards here.

Background, High-level Strategy, and Use Cases

I have good news and bad news about Sage: the bad news it that her only ability is to provide Power; the good news is that Power wins games of Marvel SNAP.
Sage joins a class of cards at 3-cost that scale to high ceilings with some support, including Bishop, Wolfsbane, and Hit-Monkey. Unlike her peers, Sage reaches great heights without much effort. She has a "natural" ceiling of a whopping 14 Power when you and your opponent's lanes are filled up just right, which is head and shoulders above the other cards in this category.
I'll walk through each example to illustrate the point. Bishop needs to come down on turn 3 and needs 2 cards played to match each 1 card needed to boost Sage, whereas Sage can scale off your turn 1 and 2 plays, and gets better drawn later while Bishop gets worse. Wolfsbane doesn't see competitive play, and only outshines Sage in a scenario where you are filling lanes with a bunch of the same Power, like with Brood, but she doesn't scale at all with your opponent's presence; the unfortunate reality is that Sage is very much the same card, just reborn at a series-5 power level. Lastly Hit-Monkey still holds a meaningful competition with Sage, and as the decklists below will illustrate, the two are often played together. We can somewhat demonstrate that Hit-Monkey has a "ceiling" of 10 Power when no discounts are involved; this is a turn 6 with Mysterio and a 1-cost for support. We can see that Sage compares very favorably to the other scaling 3-costs that act as win conditions in these decks packed with low-cost cards (i.e. Beast and/or Kitty decks).
To re-iterate a concept I briefly mentioned in Valentina's release, the above comparisons can be thought of like a "value over replacement player" statistic. From Wikipedia:
In baseball, value over replacement player (or VORP) is a statistic popularized by Keith Woolner that demonstrates how much a hitter or pitcher contributes to their team in comparison to a replacement-level player who is an average fielder at that position and a below average hitter.
Considering Sage does not bring a unique effect, even if she is the best-in-class for this effect, you must determine how much it's worth to you (in Spotlight keys) to have that extra margin of premium stats over a replacement-level card like Bishop. Depending on the deck -- especially if it's a strategy other than Bounce -- Sage is quite replaceable by a card like Gladiator, who also boasts premium stats with a different set of strengths and weaknesses.
Speaking of weaknesses, you may have dismissed Sage altogether due to this season's villain: Leech. He's a real problem for a card you want to hold in your hand for a late-game On Reveal effect. While I don't have a crystal ball, Leech has been changed three times since April 2023 (from 5/3 On Reveal: Remove all abilities, to a 5/3 with trigger on turn 6, to a 5/3 On Reveal: Remove On Reveals, to the current 4/2 On Reveal: Remove On Reveals) and I would expect him to continue to get changed to where he's less of a metagame-defining card. If/when Leech is no longer a problem for Sage, her value goes way up as a card that can turn around a lane on turn 6.
Another important dimension helping to future-proof this card is her synergy with Ravonna "the new Zabu" Renslayer. Ravonna has seen play in a wide variety of archetypes, including Mr. Negative, Tribunal, Patior, Junk, and those oddball Havok decks. There's even a Ravonna Surfer list below, where Sage is the perfect intersection of two deckbuilding requirements. Playing out this card at a discount further pushes her as an elite rate of stats.
And lastly, on the note of stats, sometimes that's all you need for a card to be great. Since starting this series, the cards I've covered that are "just stats" include Red Hulk, Mockingbird, and Cull Obsidian, which have all had noteworthy competitive performances. Sage might be the next addition to this powerful roster, but I'll leave that question to the discussion below: Is the juice worth the squeeze?

Sample Decklists

  1. Bounce
  2. Falcon-Focused Bounce
  3. All-in Junk
  4. Nova Surfer
  5. Ravonna X/Ball Ravonna Surfer Daredevil Junk
  6. Goose Surfer
  7. Jane Negative
  8. Jane Hammers
  9. Ultron
  10. Mill
  11. Wong+Odin Combo
  12. High Evo
These decklists come from a variety of sources but generally the top 1k of ladder; some are more proven than others.

What's your verdict?

Is Sage worth the key(s) now, or should players wait until a future Spotlight rotation?
Is Sage a sleeper hit waiting to be rid of the metagame menace?

2024.05.19 21:26 ZebraSaysWhoopWhoop [CO] How best to explain a termination on an employment application when reasons for termination were false?

I'm trying to help a former co-worker who's applying for new jobs and was recently asked on an application if they had ever been involuntarily terminated and, if so, to explain the situation. Co-worker was terminated from our organization a little while ago.
It recently came to light that the reasons behind my co-worker's termination were largely false. For example, the manager stated that the co-worker was hours late to work, causing the department to fail to be punctual with a delivery at agreed upon time with another organization. The co-worker was on vacation on the date provided by the manager and was not involved with the agreement with the other organization in any way. The delivery to the other organization was also on time and didn't even happen in the same month the manager stated it occurred.
We had a few projects given to us by our employer that we were all working on. The manager gave our co-worker a new deadline, weeks ahead of the deadline the rest of the employees were given. However, the manager didn't inform the co-worker of that personal deadline until the day had passed, sending an email at around 8 pm that day. One of the reasons given for my co-worker's termination was failing to meet that new deadline that co-worker didn't even know about. There was no way my co-worker could have reasonably expected our manager would have wanted the work done that day and it wasn't even something co-worker could have completed that day due to information missing from our manager. An email was falsified to make it appear that co-worker knew of this new deadline at the beginning of the day. Incidentally, the co-worker completed the work the next day, weeks ahead of the organization's actual deadline, and before several other members of the department had completed it.
The co-worker has been honest about actual mistakes, like warning the manager ahead of time that they would be 10 minutes late one day, which was done according to company policy. This 10 minute tardiness didn't affect work, but this has been held against the co-worker. The manager was never present and would not have known had co-worker not informed them. Co-worker was generally 20-30 minutes early to work and regularly worked unpaid overtime in order to meet the manager's assigned workload.
There was an unemployment appeal by our employer, but my co-worker won based on the evidence presented.
The manager has unexpectedly left the organization shortly after the unemployment appeal verdict was released, presumably involuntarily.
I realize people can be terminated for whatever reason, but this manager really had it out for the co-worker and would hold them to different standards than everyone else. My co-worker was one of the favorite employees both in their department and among clients, and one of the hardest working people.
We don't believe the HR department would be honest about the circumstances behind the co-worker's departure based on how they spoke of the co-worker in the unemployment appeal.
Is it at all possible to put down an explanation on the job application that sort of conveys the nature of the termination without appearing petty or dishonest? Can the co-worker state something along the lines of the manager falsifying some information or having unattainable expectations to result in the termination and offer to provide evidence if requested? The HR department really focused on that one day where co-worker was 10 minutes late as being a justifiable reason. That event really did occur - how should something like that be explained?

2024.05.19 21:25 Lucky_Advantage5083 No one will hire me

I’m a student at uni and I’m about to finish first year. Thing is, I’ve been looking for work since September (it’s now mid may) and no one will hire me. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. I have 3 years experience in retail, a good CV and I always have a cover letter and as of recently I’m fully available. I don’t get why retail jobs are being so picky, like you’re a RETAIL JOB. Get over yourself.

2024.05.19 21:25 ICareAboutThings25 Quick! What’s their name? (Game)

I thought this could be a fun game.
Here’s how it works. I’m going to give a quick description of a person in a scenario. Give me the first name that pops into your head for them. The “rule” is to think fast and just go with your gut. Don’t analyze name popularity, origin, or meaning. Just the first name you think of.
  1. You’re out for a walk. You hear a little girl exclaiming “Lemonade! Fresh lemonade here!” You see a girl who looks about 8 or 9 sitting at a lemonade stand. She has dark brown hair and olive skin. She has a confident smile. She’s dressed in sporty clothes and looks a bit tomboyish. What’s her name?
  2. You’re at a graduation party for a coworker’s child. As you mingle, you meet the graduate’s best friend. She’s 18. She has long red hair tied back in a ponytail. Her skin is very fair and she has freckles on her cheeks. She’s soft-spoken but not too shy. She met the graduate in band class and she’s going to school on a music scholarship next year. What’s her name?
  3. You go to a fancy restaurant. Your waiter is a man in his twenties. He’s tall and thin. He’s black. Through small talk, you learn he’s waiting tables to help pay for grad school. He’s studying to become a psychologist. He’s very personable and seems extroverted. What’s his name?
  4. You meet the wife of an acquaintance at a party. She’s in her late thirties. She’s a petite woman of Chinese descent. You learn she’s a saleswoman and a mother of two. She has a beautiful smile and a great sense of humor. What’s her name?
  5. You have to see the emergency dentist. A man in his late fifties walks in. He’s short with light brown hair that’s starting to have a little gray. He’s very matter of fact when he addresses you. Not mean, but certainly curt. What’s his name?
  6. You help your friend install a bookshelf for his grandfather, a man in his 80s. His hair is white. He’s average height but walks a bit hunched over. He’s very polite and has a dry sense of humor. What’s his name?

2024.05.19 21:25 Delicious-Lock-8944 Question about laning, mid game

I mostly mained mages mid like Syndra, Veigar, Lux, Diana.... And jungle as side. Love Kat in late game but early game she is pure bs? Tried Katarina with so many different runes and builds both ad and ap and hones and early game just doesn't work, trading on lane is horrible, even if I get proper Q towards enemy followed E into auto attacks and elec procs I still lose trades? Also everyone can just walk away when they see your Q dagger is gonna land near them? I know some players make her work but those are OTPS that play her for years, she legit feels like one of the hardest champions, Also she struggles a lot vs enemy cc and tanky champs, if enemy has tons of tanky Kat feels useless to play, idk. Am i missing something? I want to make her work but making her useful early game is so hard, any tips?

2024.05.19 21:24 Ecstatic_East_8491 Why do we need AI as a financial advisor?

Highlight the following benefits: This is my personal opinion, but you may disagree with me!
Budget Planning: AI analyzes your spending habits much more deeply than you might on your own. This leads to tailored recommendations and insights you wouldn't uncover manually. In addition, it can process massive amounts of financial data, like budget plans, spending analysis, and savings suggestions, in seconds.
On a separate note, I want to mention the fight against impulse buys. AI eliminates emotional spending triggers often associated with human budgeting. It sticks to the data, promoting financial discipline.
"Create a budget template that will work with my income and spending habits. I want something I can easily track and modify."
Accounting and Tax Compliance: Modern platforms track changes in tax rules and legislation in real-time, alerting you to updates that could affect your life and work. This reduces the risk of non-compliance and potential penalties. If you set up your assistant intelligently, you may even be able to prevent problems in some cases.
And, unlike a real financial advisor, AI platforms are noticeably cheaper and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Here's a prompt you can use:
"Explain the key financial ratios and how to calculate them. Provide examples of how to use them to assess my business health."
Investment Management: AI is increasingly important in trading, as financiers make trades using algorithms. And if the best experts are using it, why shouldn't we? AI platforms are trained on vast amounts of data, allowing us to identify patterns humans might miss. This helps ensure the integrity of financial data and reduces costly errors.
In addition, some platforms can assess risk tolerance, financial goals, and market conditions to generate customized portfolio management recommendations.
Here's a prompt you can use:
"Summarize the current economic climate. Highlight key indicators (e.g., inflation, interest rates, GDP) and their potential impact on my investment portfolio."
These points add to a common conclusion regarding one fundamental advantage: data-driven automation. AI can quickly handle routine and time-consuming tasks, allowing us to make more educated decisions or free up time for more enjoyable activities.

2024.05.19 21:24 SomeOddCodeGuy My personal guide for developing software with AI assistance

So, in the past I've mentioned that I use AI to assist in writing code for my personal projects, especially for things I use to automate stuff for myself, and I've gotten pretty mixed responses. Some folks say they do the same, others say AI can never write good code. I ran into a similar mindset among professionals in my field, and it made me realize that maybe folks are simply using AI differently than I am, and that's why our viewpoints are so different on it.
Before I begin, a little about where I'm coming from: I'm a development manager , and I've been in the industry for a while and even went to grad school for it. So when you read this, please keep in mind that this isn't coming from a non-dev, but rather someone who has a pretty solid bit of experience building and supporting large scale systems.
Also, if you read this and think "Why do all this when I can just ask it for code and it works?" This guide is for building large scale systems that are clean, maintainable, and as well written as you can personally muster. Yes, there's redundant work here and yes there's still a lot of work here. But, in my experience, it has not only sped up my personal development but also made it really fun for me and allows me to churn out features for hours on end without getting remotely fatigued.

My AI Development Rules

First: The rules I follow when coding with AI to get the most benefit
Important Note: I always use 2 AI. Always. If you dont have a local AI, then Mistral has le chat for free, and you could use free chatgpt 3.5 If you have high end subscriptions, like Claude Opus and ChatGPT 4 Turbo, even better.
I prefer local AI models for various reasons, and the quality of some like WizardLM-2 8x22b are on par with ChatGPT 4, but use what you have available and feel most comfortable with.
You CAN use just 1, but different models have different training, and may catch things.

Phase 1: Architecture

AI is terrible at architecture, so this is mostly you. You don't have to deep dive down to, say, the innehelper method level, but at a minimum you want to document the following:
  1. What is the project about? What are the requirements of the project, in a concise format that you can repeat to the AI over and over again whenever you pose a question to it?
  2. What does "Done" look like? This is for your benefit, really. Scope creep is miserable, and you have no one to reign you in as the stakeholder. Trust me; my current project should have been done weeks ago but I won't... quit... adding... features...
  3. What classes/modules/packages should exist? Lay the program out in your head. What is each responsible for? How does it flow?
  4. At a high level, what kind of methods should each have? If you have a LoggingService, do you want a "Log(message)" method? If you have a FileManagerService, do you have a "ReadFile(fileName)" or "ReadFile(filePath)" or something else?
During this phase, you can present the answers to #1 and #2 to your AI and ask it for an architectural breakdown, but don't just use its answer. This is just to help you get over mental blocks, give you something to think about, etc. Write your own architecture. A big reason is because you, above all, need to know this project's structure inside and out. It will be harder for you to keep track of your project if you didn't write your own architecture.

Phase 2: The Coding

Below is the workflow I use. I understand that for many people this will feel like an unnecessary number of steps, but for me it has resulted in the highest quality that I've found so far, and has sped my development up massively... especially when working in a language I'm not intimately familiar with (like python. I'm a C# dev lol).
Yes, you can get code from AI far faster than what I'm about to say by simply asking for it and moving on, but the goal for me here is quality, developer understanding of the code, and adherence to the developer's style of coding. I want to write code that is clean, maintainable, scalable, and other developers at least won't want to set fire to if they look at it lol
Note: When making my first coding prompt of a conversation to the AI, I almost always include the answer to #1 from Architecture above- the breakdown of requirements for the full project. That context can sometimes help it better understand what you're trying to achieve.
While this may seem like it would be exceptionally time consuming, I can tell you that this workflow has worked amazingly for me in saving both time and energy. I'm usually dead tired at the end of a workday, and I simply don't have the mental energy to write code for another 4-5 hours straight. Because of this, I put off personal projects for YEARS. But by doing this, it allows me to get roughly similar quality to my own work when I'm fresh, while pawning off the labor portion of the dev to the AI.
I do the thinking, it does the efforting.
I would expect that steps 2, 3 and 4 will take around 5 minutes total. Step 5 will take 10-20 minutes depending on how much code is involved. Another loop will take another 15-25 minutes. So 1 feature will take around 20-60 minutes or so to produce. But the key here is how much mental energy you, as the developer, conserved while still maintaining tight control over the code.
Also note that this workflow won't work for EVERYTHING. Context limits can make it simply infeasible to engage the AI in some tasks. Say you've got 6 classes that are all working together on a function, and you realize there's an odd bug that you can't figure out where it is in that workflow. More than likely, you won't find an AI capable of handing that amount of context without degraded quality. In those cases, you're on your own.
Anyhow, I know this is lengthy, but I wanted to toss this out there. This workflow has worked amazingly for me, and I intend to continue refining it as time goes.

What is a perfusionist and what do they do?
A perfusionist’s central role is to operate a heart-lung machine during open heart surgeries or other surgeries where blood flow may be impaired or interrupted. Examples of surgeries or devices that may require perfusionists most commonly include:
  • Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG)
  • Heart Valve Repair or Replacement
  • Congenital Heart Defect Repairs
  • Organ Transplants
  • Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
  • Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD)
  • Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP)
  • Chemoperfusion

What is the salary and job outlook?
Salaries for perfusionists are generally higher than $150,000 per year. There are a wide variety of pay structures that will affect total compensation packages.
The future of perfusion is unclear, mostly due to concerns of market saturation. A search through /Perfusion will reveal a wide variety of opinions on the matter. The American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) publishes an annual report listing the number of certifications gained and lost. Included in the most current report (2023) is a historical list going back to 2000. Included in the 2022 report is the number of students admitted and graduated in 2021 and 2022.

Professional Organizations and Resources:

Education and Credentialing

How do I become a perfusionist?
To become a practicing perfusionist in the United States, you must become a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP). This credential is governed by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) and is awarded after passing two board examinations: the Perfusion Basic Science Examination (PBSE) and the Clinical Applications in Perfusion Examination (CAPE).
Qualification to sit for the board exams is achieved by completing a certified program. The accrediting body for programs is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and a current list of programs may be found by going to this page, selecting “Profession” and choosing “Perfusion.” Unfortunately, this does not include programs that are defunct or programs that are undergoing the preliminary accreditation process. All schools require an undergraduate degree before entry regardless of outcome: degree or certificate.
The list of schools maintained at Perfusion.com and at SpecialtyCare are not current.
Programs currently undergoing preliminary certification include (alphabetical):
Program lengths vary from 18 to 21 months and cost varies from approximately $30,000 to $140,000.

Common Questions About the Application Process

Is it competitive?
The application process is extremely competitive. Schools are typically receiving several hundred applications and most take 20 or fewer students.
When does the application cycle begin?
The application cycle is different for each school, but typically start as early as June 1 for start dates the following year.
That means that for the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year, applications will begin opening on June 1, 2024.
When do applications close?
Again, each program will be different. Some programs close earlier than others. Some programs have processes that take awhile to complete, so it is advisable to complete your application before the process closes.
Which school should I apply to?
You should apply to every school you're qualified for.
What prerequisites are required for perfusion school?
Each of the programs have different requirements. Contacting each of the programs with program specific questions is going to result in much more accurate answers than asking here. Programs can and do change requirements on an ongoing basis.
Nearly all programs require at least a documented conversation with a perfusionist or shadowing a case as part of the application process.
How do I find a perfusionist to shadow?
LinkedIn is your best resource. You may also post a request for a specific geographical area using the flair “Shadow Request.” You can also try contacting hospitals that do open heart surgery and arranging to shadow a perfusionist.
What kind of work experience is useful when applying to perfusion school?
Perfusion assistant jobs are sometimes referred to as a “golden ticket” for admission to a school. Many schools seem to value healthcare experience, through what type varies from school to school. Traditionally, RNs with critical care or operating room experience and respiratory techs seem to have a high degree of success. Other perfusion / OR adjacent jobs like anesthesia techs also seem to correlate with higher acceptance rates. As the application process becomes more competitive, it may be worth reaching out to current students to see what class make ups look like or Program Directors to see what advice they may give. Unfortunately, the application process is a “black box” and each institution has different qualities, traits, and experience they seem to value.
What are my chances of getting into School X? / Should I apply this year or wait until I have more experience?
No one knows. Your chances of getting into a school that you haven't applied to are zero. Contact the program for specific questions and guidance about your situation. The application process is a "black box" process with only the Program Directors and Admissions Council Members knowing how they work and what they are looking for in the current cohort. If you have specific questions about feedback you have received, feel free to ask them. Generic "what if" questions have a low likelihood of being approved in this subreddit.

2024.05.19 21:24 throwaway_on_da_beat Letters are behind/slow as I type

Hey,
I´ve been using Notesnook for a while, and I absolutely love it! Definitely enjoy the customization of the apps look and everything, definitely not using other apps ever!!...But...
Lately I´ve been noticing that as I type, the letters are "too slow" or not synced with the speed I type with (sorry, I don´t know the professional terms for this), and it´s both annoying and sometimes the words are missing letters because of this.
My laptop is not laggy, the typing is smooth in apps like Word or even as I type here in this post.
Any ideas what to do?
Thank you!
