2024.05.27 22:30 Troglodyllic 2001 Chrysler Sebring Won't Start

I'm trying to fix up this 01 Sebring to get it out of my driveway but it won't start...usually. It's strange-you turn the key and the starter turns for a half second and then stops. Do it again for 3 or 4 times same thing and then the fifth time it will start up tho there's no rhyme or reason as to which turn of the key will work.
I also noticed that the key won't go all the way back to the off position. So is this a bad ignition switch I'm dealing with?

2024.05.27 17:09 Frequent_Ad2118 Radiator stop leak on crank case

I’m trying to salvage a Chrysler Sebring with the 2.7 V6. I bought it for near scrap value but would like to get it running if possible.
Has a water pump that leaking internally, looks like previous owner filled the radiator full of stop leak but it all leaked into the engine oil.
Currently has very low or no oil pressure. I changed the oil and filter but no change.
I’ve now pulled the valve cover and it looks rather dry up top but no sign of stop leak. I removed a few of the cam caps and I don’t see any problems, just looks like normal wear.
My plan, as a Hail Mary Pass, is to drain oil and remove filter. Then fill the crank case with vinegar and let sit over night. Next day I’d crank the engine with the oil filter removed in an attempt to purge any residual stop leak.
Thoughts? Ideas?

2024.05.25 01:44 ethanpool0 Car stalls after 45+ min of driving

2008 chrysler sebring shitbox sedan 2.4l.
Never happens when engine is cold. Doesn’t happen every drive. Last drive it felt good until after an hour of driving freeway speeds, finally coming up to a stop light it starts to sputter. I start pulling over and doesn’t die in idle but seems like its occasionally dropping revs. Pressed on the gas in park and got up to 3k rpm slowly then died. No CEL code. Cleaned throttle body attempting to fix this. Leaning towards fuel filter being semi clogged inside my pump assembly.
Previous time this happened it could not go above 3k rpm. Fluctuating down and up like struggling to get fuel. It happens often on longer than 45-60 minute drives. Never happens on my way to work which is about 20-30 minutes. I have a video of the rpms when car last died.
NOT evap system. Cleaned MAP sensor. Cleaned throttle body. Thoughts?

2024.05.24 23:28 puppetmonsters 2008 Chrysler Sebring stalling

08 Chrysler Sebring, 113,000 miles. 2.4L
I start the car, and it will run smooth for a few minutes, then it stalls out.
I start it again, and it will run a few minutes, then it stalls.
It will not stay running. Fuel pump works. I replaced all spark plugs, cam shaft sensor, crank shaft sensor, cleaned throttle.
Still doesn’t change anything.
The car only runs for 4-8 minutes and just stops.
No overheating Check Engine light IS ON. At one time, the Check Engine light flashed off/on a few times but it hasn’t done it in awhile.
Any ideas? I’m soo stumped.
Can anyone also recommend a good OBD2 reader? The ones at AutoZone don’t seem to offer any solutions that I haven’t tried.
Eventually, I may have to take it into a shop, but I’m really trying to diagnose and repair it myself. I have tools, and know my way around cars, but this issue is just stopping me…

2024.05.24 10:03 wittyrandomusername Broke valve cover bolt and can't find another one. Is it ok to use a regular bolt from the hardware store?

I have an 09 Chrysler Sebring with the 2.7l. A valve cover bolt busted, and I extracted it just fine, but I've been looking for a replacement to no avail. Called the dealership, and they are 30 dollars a piece, and you have to order 4. Even they told me to just go to a salvage yard instead. However, there are only a couple of salvage yards close me, and none of them seem to have what I need. There are some good pick your own part yards further aay, but they are only open during weekdays, and I work. Not taking a vacation day just to visit the scrap yard.
So my question is, what will happen if I use a bolt from home depot? I can use the rubber grommet from the old one, and I think it will be ok. I just don't know about warping, or if the expansion and contraction from the heat will cause issues. What do you think?

Hi, I'm a 17 year old living in America with my split parent household. Over the last 2 years, my daily life has gone to complete shit. My dad and I are the only people in the house that are financially supporting anyone. I work the max hours a week I can at my age,40 hours, and my dad work 80 hours a week. Togther we make around 6k a month. This is barely supporting a middle class lifestyle. We don't buy fancy shit, rarely spend money on our hobbies, and my step mom refuses to keep a job to help. Our monthly essential bills end up somewhere around 5400 a month, and we can barely afford groceries. My step mom recently got a job that makes the same money as me, but working more hours in a week. I'm so mentally stressed out, and so is my dad, that we don't even talk to her about money anymore. Lord forbid him or I get sick, cause then we get behind on bills. Him and I drive nice, full efficient cars, him a 2011 equinox, and me a 1997 Chrysler Sebring, takes 50$ to fill both our tanks. While she drives a 2015 audi q7 that takes almost 135$ to fill her tank. I've gotten to the point where my thoughts have become suicidal at times, because I cannot handle it anymore. We have 3 dogs, and 2 cats. She does not understand that we have too many finances to have all theese fucking animals for her to be not working. The only positive is the extra 300$ from my biological mom in child support but obviously that ends soon when I turn 18. What do I Do? My dad needs me. And I can't bear the thought of hurting myself. I don't want that. But I constantly feel the urge. All this work is killing him and I mentally and emotionally. And we can't seem to get her to find a damn job. Maybe this is the wrong sub for this, and if so, please redirect me, but if anyone has any tips to help me keep myself controlled mentally that'd be awesome.
Edit: origiona.post said 2025 audi, changed to 2015, wich is correct

2024.05.22 02:08 DipDipLetHerRip What's this part? What's its function? 2001 Chrysler Sebring 2.7 Sedan

What's this part? What's its function? 2001 Chrysler Sebring 2.7 Sedan
Hi mechanics, I'm a fairly new youtube mechanic, need an ID.
I'd like to get this valve cover off to get at the injectors. I can get the thing close to off, but it doesn't come. I'm almost certain it's this unidentified pipe (first photo with two arrows pointing to it). Once I have the airbox off Its easy to get to. I've included a photo in where it connects (second photo with one arrow). This is where I believe I need to disconnect it.
I'm assuming there is a gasket or something to seal where that pipe meets in the second photo. I'm also assuming when I take it apart, the gasket or seal with need to be replaced. I need to know the name of this pipe/part so I can find the means to seal put it back together properly.
Any advice or info would be great. Thanks

2024.05.21 23:29 xeliterickx Should I buy an N?

Hello everybody, I am 18, work on 3 months contracts (that have been getting renewed constantly for over a period of one year and will most likely stay that way) one of my buddies recently got an N-Line and I really liked the aesthetic of the car. So i looked into all the models and honestly the N seems the coolest. I went to go see it at a dealership close to me and honestly it looks twice as good in person. I drive an old convertible chrysler sebring with 75k on the dash. I’m looking to get an Elantra N for multiple reasons.
First reason is that I drive around 440km’s weekly (for my work etc) so driving takes up alot of my time and I don’t enjoy the road much with that car. I think the Elantra N is the perfect daily driver, especially that it’s FWD so I can drive it in the canadian winter.
Second reason is that my chrysler is unfortunately very slow, I have to punch the accelerator pedal every time I want to gain some speed on the highway which is putting alot of strain on the motor. I’m basically driving a slow car really fast to compensate which is in turn damaging the car.
Third reason is that the chrysler is such a heavy and bulky car, it uses up alot of gas and I spend almost the same amount as other friends who have SUV’s or sporty cars. So might as well spend that gas money on a car that’s worth it.
Final reason is that I don’t have any other bills to pay other then my phone, gas, and insurance. I live with my parents and intend on doing so for a while.
Based on my calculations, (price + tax + interest + insurance + gas) my monthly payments will basically be around 40% of my salary (loan duration is 6 years). (My salary will soon increase by a decent amount and I will also work on the weekends so more income) Therefore it will be more around 30%.
I also intend on paying the car faster then 6 years.
My logic is this, yes I may be young and I probably should invest in something like a downpayment on a property in the future but I am in love with cars and driving, and I think the Elantra N is perfect for me. It’s not just about having a car that can get me from point a to point b, it’s way more then that. I already have a car that can do that but it’s just not fun.
So my question is, what do you guys think? I am not necessarily looking for life/financial advice (although that is welcomed), but more on your thoughts and perspective as owners of the car to see if it is really worth the commitment/compromise i’d be making. I’ve talked to several people about this and their answers are basically the same (you already have a working car save your money for something more important). But I wanna know from people who are maybe more established and own the car what they think.
Please be respectful :) I am only trying to gather the most information possible to make a good decision, I am not set on buying the car yet. Thank you :)

2024.05.21 21:15 Zealousideal-Fact598 My car won't rev up

I have a Chrysler Sebring 09 that won't rev when in park or drive. I've checked the MAP sensor it's not it. I've changed the fuel pump last year. The throttle body light is on and did flash before now not wanting to rev. When I open the flap and rev it up it works. But without help the flap on the throttle body won't open. Could it be my throttle body? Or spark plugs? My gut is saying throttle body but I'm just a girl who knows little bit.

2024.05.21 18:35 BinkReddit TJ Bluetooth Happiness

TJ Bluetooth Happiness
Just wanted to quickly write this up in the hopes of helping someone else on the same quest; I spent way too much time on learning the pros and cons of each device and figured I might as well share my experience and help my fellow Jeepers.
My factory radio works well, but it doesn't grok Bluetooth, so I can never hear my favorite songs when I want to. In addition, I was tired of using my phone for navigation and being unable to hear the audible navigation prompts when doing ~70 on the highway with no doors and no top. I thought of replacing the radio with something modern, but the radio still works, I like the factory look, and any radio with an LCD will get outdated, and I'll likely wind up using my phone for this stuff anyway as a result of having the apps get frequently updated. So, I started my quest for Bluetooth with a factory radio.
Up first was https://www.discountcarstereo.com/blu-chry02.html, but I couldn't get it to work. Technical support was excellent, they even worked with me on weekends, but it just wasn't happening. Ultimately I returned the product, but, perhaps, it was for the best as the device has some limitations that my current solution does not.
My next effort was with https://www.1factoryradio.com/collections/all/products/chrysler-2005-2006-2007-sebring-radio-am-fm-compact-disc-player-with-bluetooth, which is wonderful, innovative and truly plug-and-play, but the quality of the Bluetooth audio wasn't good enough for me. Technical support here was also beyond excellent, but I chose not to proceed as, for the price, I expected a better Bluetooth implementation and my factory radio still worked.
Lastly, I went with https://gromaudio.com/store/bt3_adapters/chrysler-dodge-jeep-02-09-bluetooth-adapter-car-kit-interface.html and I couldn't be happier. The Bluetooth audio sounds good, I can move back and fourth in a playlist with the native controls on the factory radio, and even the mic that comes with the kit is of decent quality. While the price is too high, ultimately I bit the bullet as this solution is superior to the others. If it helps others, here's how I mounted the module, but I'd love to know how others wind up mounting this if you go down this route:

Also, I have not been paid by anyone to do this write-up and I paid for everything here with my own money.
Hope this helps someone else!
Cheers.

2024.05.20 00:38 ggfchl When you hear the word “convertible”, what’s the first car that comes to mind?

To me it’s the Chrysler Sebring. Not any particular year, but maybe on the somewhat older side (early-mid 2000s).

2024.05.18 22:51 Glum-Bullfrog-375 New front brakes/wheel bearings grinding extremely loud and are starting to slip

2008 Chrysler Sebring 2.7L hardtop sedan. Replaced the front rotors, pads, & whee bearings 1 week ago. Been making this obnoxiously loud hollow grinding noise when braking ever since. Now they are starting to slip at low speeds. I looked at the brakes the other day and I don’t see anything obvious visually that could be causing it… ie. dust shield isn’t touching the rotor, shims aren’t touching the rotor, pads were installed the right away, I used plenty of brake lubricant on the caliper piston and wings behind the pads. The caliper pistons compressed just fine when I did the brakes. Anyone know what the problem could be? They’re so loud pedestrians always turn their heads when I come to a stop lol

2024.05.11 22:47 Searching4Buddha Some times it won't idle.

Our 2010 Chrysler Sebring refused to stay idling the other day. It died at an intersection, we were able to get restarted after a couple of attempts, but had to keep revving the engine to keep it from dying. We got it off the road, and when we went back for it later it ran perfectly. The next day when I drove it around the neighborhood for about 5 miles it continued to run perfectly. Is there something in the engine that's about to break and needs replaced?

My vehicle iD4 was hit (and run) by a distracted driver on 2004 Chrysler Sebring I-205 around 10 pm on May 10th, I noticed there were a couple of Ioniq 5 directly behind me and the Chrysler driver.
If it’s happen to have a clip of the collision and can share it with me it would greatly help me. Thanks you.
