I've been wanting into biking again, and found a free one at what seemed to be the tail-end of a yard sale. The frame is solid, no serious rust or dents, pretty sure it is steel (it's a 90s-looking pinarello). I'm a short woman and it's the perfect size, I can place both feet on the ground while over the saddle.
It's a mess though and looks like a tweeker maybe tried to put it back together. I don't know much about bikes, I had a $200 amazon bike that I rode till it just kinda fell apart. It would be cool to learn, but I also don't want to have to learn how to replace everything before riding, so I'm hoping to get it all fixed up with some nice mid-grade parts.
Happy to pay for the labor, but not sure if this is something shops really want to bother with. Any recommendations? I'm in SE, near Sunnyside area but open to traveling elsewhere in Portland.

Hi! I'm an experienced DM with many years of practice. For the first time, I've decided to work thoroughly on my prep and put it on paper. I'm looking for suggestions on how to improve it, and I want to share my ideas with all of you for inspiration. I won't post the entire setting here as it's several pages (though I don't mind sharing it). Here is one of the quest lines and a summary of the setting:
Setting: Players are in the small-ish village (Golden Crest) in the marshy area. Abandoned and sinking area of the village is calles Marsh Walks.
- People in the Golden Crest village are afraid to go into the Marsh Walks, they refuse if asked to. They will try to convince the players to not enter there however will let them if players insist.
- People in the village sometimes vanish for a few days and then come back not knowing why or where they vanished, however some donât come back, especially children. Those who return seem not hurt in any way yet their talking and thinking is noticeably slow, and they lose focus easily. If asked about the state, they say they are just tired. Players can convince the villagers that vanished and came back to be investigated â medicine check 14 on person that was missing in past day or two will reveal marks as if they were bound without clear pattern over their whole body, on medicine 18 they will notice small sting mark at the back of the personâs neck. If a medical check is attempted on a person that was missing longer than several days before players donât notice anything noteworthy.
- Arcana checks will be more effective â if the players decide to study the minds of the villagers via magical means, on arcana 10, they will notice strong mental connection to some broader consciousness that saps the mental power of affected person. If players try to study affected villagersâ body with magical means they will reach the same conclusion on arcana 13.
- If players try to look for information about vanishings â they could just ask villagers and the information varies highly (from several months to several weeks). For investigation check 14 they will have to have access to fortress and the guardsâ books, then they will learn that the first vanishing occurred six weeks before the day players arrived.
- If players come to recognize mentally affected people in the village they start to notice them more often. Drunk in the tavern hasnât been served alcohol since evening yet he still seems completely out. Woman just stands with basket of herbs on the side of the street with blank stare, after several minutes she looks around and continues to walk. If players, ask people around the town about this they just say itâs normal or that itâs not happening at all.
- If they want to visit the homes of the affected people, they will find that they live in disarray, plants have withered and dried, pets malnourished or vanished completely, they havenât cleaned for a time, but nothing pointing in the direction of Marsh Walks.
- If players move at night around the town, or just are lucky enough during the day, they notice one or few affected people carrying food, pets and such in the direction of Marsh Walks. These people try to be stealthy and look out for players. If they notice that they are being tailed, they will change direction and try another time. They will try to hide with -2 to stealth, and they will look out for players with +0 to perception. These villagers carry these offerings into one of the buildings in the Marsh Walks.
- The entity causing all this trouble is the magical plant. On nature check 14 players will learn that this plant is like man eating plants from jungles and its location is highly unnatural. On nature check 18 players learn that its not natural plant, its magical capabilities were somehow enhanced and even its body is strengthened by magic (its resistant to non-magical damage). Villagers are affected by its psychic powers and bring it offerings to feed on. Affected villagers will defend it to death and will not have problem to sacrifice themselves to neutralize player. If this plant learns that the players are investigating it, it will strengthen defenses. If it learns that players know its location it will possess affected villagers and try to assassinate them.
Maybe I would implement several wisdom saves for players to see if they are to be vanished or to be affraid of the Marsh walks as the villagers are.
I picture combat in one of the sinking abandoned houses of the Marsh Walks. Most of the terrain is water and ponds only several places with secure footing. Villagers defend the plant with their bodyes and try to attack players. Plant is mostly harmless by itself but its durable. It has moving roots that try to grapple players and drown them. Villagers are willing to sacrifice themselves - grabing players and jumping with them into deep water to be captured by roots of the plant.

Not a way I want to start a night shift, but it burned about 2 hours for me, so that's a plus! But, the staff I was relieving, had to cover those 2 hours, as I was the closest thing to a supervisor at the time. I'm sorry bestie!!
I had to hold off on posting about this for a few months, due to any potential legal action our property may have been dealing with, for the incident. I never received any final update, so I think I'm in the clear to share.
Opening scene: it's 10pm, Night Audit (me) arrives, walking thru the lobby to get to their post, silent greetings to other staff, as I walk past guests checking in.
I set my things down in the back office, put on my name tag, chug the caffeine of my choice, and mosey my way up front. The guests that were previously there have gone on their way, and it's just me and 2nd shift staff. Our schedules have a 1 hour layover, so we start chatting about how the days been, and any info I need to know.
20 mins pass
Cue the phone call; 2nd shift picks up, while I start printing paperwork. I overhear my coworker exclaim, "I'm sorry, you saw what now?!" Ears perk up, and I'm listening in, watching my coworkers expressions for any indication if emergency services need to be called, or just send Security to handle it. Their eyes bug out, at whatever the person on the other end of the phone is saying. I hear my coworker ask for a the location of the caller, and the location of the incident; she repeats, "tennis courts, and fitness center lawn." I'm radioing Security to come by the desk, to prepare for whatever is going down; it's about to be shift change, so we happen to have both Security Director (SecDir) from 2nd shift, and 3rd shift Security (SEC) present.
My coworker eventually gets off the phone and informs me, "a member witnessed a van jump over a curb, skid out over the lawn, then drive off towards rooms, on the nature trail. He says that the driver stopped the van, jumped out, then took off towards the residential area, stumbling and clearly intoxicated."
Oh boy! This is not going to be fun. We immediately pass the info to Security, and tell them to go searching for the van, and the driver, if possible. I ask my coworker to call local PD, to ask for assistance; we're gonna need all the help we can get.
While I'm keeping in contact on the radio with Security, I'm also texting the big bosses, keeping them updated on what's happening. Eventually, my coworker gets off the phone, just as the member who had witnessed everything, comes into the lobby, to retell his story. As I'm listening, we get a radio call from SecDir stating she didn't see anything by the fitness center, and SEC also stating he walked a bit of the nature trail, and didn't see the van.
How do you lose a whole ass van?! There's no way this intoxicated individual managed to get back onto property, hop in his van, then take off with it...
I offer to help look, and SecDir says she's going home; SEC goes with me. I grab a flashlight, a radio, and tell 2nd shift, I'll keep her posted, and to let me know when PD gets here; I apologize for her potentially having to stay late.
SEC and I head to the fitness center, and right away, I see tread marks that have completely destroyed the lawn between the lap pool and the tennis courts... SecDir didn't see anything, my ass! She didn't even look. These are very obvious, and hard to miss. Just as I start going to follow the trail made by the treads, PD pulls up, and 4 squad cars are taking off near the residential homes, spot lights on, searching for our intoxicated driver; while 2 other sqaud cars park by the fitness center.
SEC and I waive down the officers, both about my age (20's), and show the the tread marks on the lawn. We have a giggle over how ridiculous the situation seems, and survey the area for any damage, or signs as to wear the van may have ended up. We still can't find it... only damage we find is a broken light fixture, some ruined landscaping, and the obvious lawn. I ask SEC to stay back, and continue talking to the officers, while I walked down one of the guest paths, that leads to some rooms, thinking maybe the member had confused that for the nature trail (the trail circles the whole property, but connects to the guest paths).
The property is 88 acres... we have proof, via the tread marks, the van exists; it has to be somewhere!
As I walk further down the path, I see yet another broken light fixture. BINGO We're on the right path! I continue down, scanning for a path of destruction, to lead me to this mysterious van. Just as I'm asking myself, "how in the 7 Hells did this guy drive this far down? It's so narrow!" I look up, and am greeted with the tail end of a vehicle, quietly parked at the end of the path, blocking the entrance of a couple of our rooms, no where near a parking lot, where it should be resting.
Ladies, gentlemen, and nonbinary individuals... we got 'em!
Unable to hold back my astonishment, I start cackling like a witch, at the absurdity of the sight before me; I then yell back to SEC, "Bro! I found it!" Before falling back into laughter. I had the mental clarity to search around the vehicle, seeing if anyone was inside; as well as to check for more damage; or to make sure no guest was potentially pinned underneath this beast.
SEC and PD make their way over, while I'm still cracking up, realizing I'm the closest person to a supervisor, so I'll have to stay as long as PD is here, and help file reports; what a joy my job is!
I tell SEC to call SecDir back, and tell her she needs to get back on property; she agrees, and has an ETA of 10 mins.
I call 2nd shift with my cell phone, to front desk phone, and update her; she's laughing along with me; and I break the news that she will have to cover the desk, until this is sorted out. "No problem! Just take lots of pictures!"
I'm already on it!
PD searches the vehicle, and finds... drumroll please METH! Woo-hoo! This fucker was high as a kite! It's a miracle he didn't hit anyone, driving over the guest path. No identification found in the vehicle, other than a note with a name scribbled on it, so PD runs the plates; asking us to check if the name matches with any guests in house. IT BETTER NOT! I have 2nd shift on the phone, asking her to run names for me; no dice. I also ask her to look up the name on the note; nothing.
We're informed PD is going to fly a drone over the property, to check for heat signatures, trying to find our guy, seeing if he's still meandering in the desert. Nada...
Some guests I had checked in the night prior, walk by, and see the whole ordeal, with me pacing around, chatting to officers, and SEC. I check in with them, asking if they happened to see anything, or if they were just coming back? They had been out all night, and were just getting in; they ask what's happened, and if it's OK to watch; I'm not stopping them, I think it's funny as hell; they pull up their patio furniture, and peek over their wall to watch PD, SEC and I plan how to get the van out. (Sealth lvl 10)
Other guests come by, having just checked in, and warned of the chaos going on, and ask for directions to their room; I point them in the direction, apologizing for the disturbance, and getting a giggle from them, as they ask if every night is this exciting? "Gods I hope not!"
SecDir is back on site, and the big bosses have said they want to remove the van. Perfect! How...?
PD offers to get a tow truck to remove it, but that risks causing more damage to the property. Yeah... no. Let's try avoiding adding more damage to the landscaping, because I know grounds is gonna be pissed when they see what's happened to the lawn, and some of the perfectly curated plants on the path. Lucky us, while searching the vehicle, PD found the keys in the ignition! SecDir asks that I call our Front Desk Director (my boss), and ask how she wants us to get the van out; SEC offers to drive it out, and we just guide him around, to make sure he doesn't do significant damage to the property. My boss gives the all clear, and we all take position; PD in front, with SecDir, and me following behind, to make sure the tail end of the van clears things, or offering a push, if we get stuck on decorative boulders.
After about 5 mins, of yelling and directing, the van is returned to the black top, that is a parking lot, with cheers and applause! PD gets final statements from us, and suggests we get the van towed ASAP, so if the original driver returns, he might come to the desk looking for his vehicle/keys; basically setting a trap, so we could call PD if/when he returns. I thank the officers, and my team, for a job well done, then return to the desk; time to begin writing reports, updating the big bosses, and searching for 24hr towing...
My coworker is all giddy from the excitement, as I show her pictures I had taken; kicking myself for not having recorded us driving the van out, to document any damages we may have caused, but, oh well, I'm sure the bosses won't mind. I eventually get a hold of a tow company, and am informed they can't tow the vehicle, until after 48hrs, due to a new bill that has been passed in my state; but, they can come tag the vehicle; perfect! I keep SEC informed, so he can update his reports, and give him the van keys to hold onto, along with the tow companies info.
My coworker finally decides to leave the desk, and wants to go work out at the fitness center; it's almost 2am at this point, and her gym is closed. I don't have a problem with it, so I give her a member key. I include this information for a reason...
Around 2:45am, just as I'm preparing to run audit, I get a call from my coworker; I answer, "is everything okay?" And all I hear is her say, "I think the guy is back!" No. Fucking. Way. She continues, "I was about to leave, when I saw, someone I thought was a guest, stumbling around the ballroom area, and I asked if he needed help. He mumbled, and I couldn't understand him. Then I realized, he fit the description of our missing driver! He's in the parking lot right now, just kinda wandering."

SEC calls me after I hang up with PD and is laughing; he tells me our guy is just standing by the van, trying to open the doors, and just acting super confused; probably thinking, "how did this get here?" SEC says our guy seems to have given up, and is now smoking a cigarette next to the van; probably having realized he probably fucked up, bad, accepting his fate.
PD eventually joins them, and takes the guy to jail for the night, for trespassing; unable to prove he's a guest, or knows someone who is staying here. Unfortunately, we couldn't prove he was the driver, because we don't have cameras on the property, other than the ones watching the desk. The guys does confirm it's his van tho, so some legal savvy people might be able to clarify if he can actually get charged for DUI.
The next night, I come on shift, to find the van gone, and no update from management on any legal action that is being pursued.
I know, not a super exciting ending; but I hope you enjoyed this tale.

I had to hold off on posting about this for a few months, due to any potential legal action our property may have been dealing with, for the incident. I never received any final update, so I think I'm in the clear to share.
Opening scene: it's 10pm, Night Audit (me) arrives, walking thru the lobby to get to their post, silent greetings to other staff, as I walk past guests checking in.
I set my things down in the back office, put on my name tag, chug the caffeine of my choice, and mosey my way up front. The guests that were previously there have gone on their way, and it's just me and 2nd shift staff. Our schedules have a 1 hour layover, so we start chatting about how the days been, and any info I need to know.
20 mins pass
Cue the phone call; 2nd shift picks up, while I start printing paperwork. I overhear my coworker exclaim, "I'm sorry, you saw what now?!" Ears perk up, and I'm listening in, watching my coworkers expressions for any indication if emergency services need to be called, or just send Security to handle it. Their eyes bug out, at whatever the person on the other end of the phone is saying. I hear my coworker ask for a the location of the caller, and the location of the incident; she repeats, "tennis courts, and fitness center lawn." I'm radioing Security to come by the desk, to prepare for whatever is going down; it's about to be shift change, so we happen to have both Security Director (SecDir) from 2nd shift, and 3rd shift Security (SEC) present.
My coworker eventually gets off the phone and informs me, "a member witnessed a van jump over a curb, skid out over the lawn, then drive off towards rooms, on the nature trail. He says that the driver stopped the van, jumped out, then took off towards the residential area, stumbling and clearly intoxicated."
Oh boy! This is not going to be fun. We immediately pass the info to Security, and tell them to go searching for the van, and the driver, if possible. I ask my coworker to call local PD, to ask for assistance; we're gonna need all the help we can get.
While I'm keeping in contact on the radio with Security, I'm also texting the big bosses, keeping them updated on what's happening. Eventually, my coworker gets off the phone, just as the member who had witnessed everything, comes into the lobby, to retell his story. As I'm listening, we get a radio call from SecDir stating she didn't see anything by the fitness center, and SEC also stating he walked a bit of the nature trail, and didn't see the van.
How do you lose a whole ass van?! There's no way this intoxicated individual managed to get back onto property, hop in his van, then take off with it...
I offer to help look, and SecDir says she's going home; SEC goes with me. I grab a flashlight, a radio, and tell 2nd shift, I'll keep her posted, and to let me know when PD gets here; I apologize for her potentially having to stay late.
SEC and I head to the fitness center, and right away, I see tread marks that have completely destroyed the lawn between the lap pool and the tennis courts... SecDir didn't see anything, my ass! She didn't even look. These are very obvious, and hard to miss. Just as I start going to follow the trail made by the treads, PD pulls up, and 4 squad cars are taking off near the residential homes, spot lights on, searching for our intoxicated driver; while 2 other sqaud cars park by the fitness center.
SEC and I waive down the officers, both about my age (20's), and show the the tread marks on the lawn. We have a giggle over how ridiculous the situation seems, and survey the area for any damage, or signs as to wear the van may have ended up. We still can't find it... only damage we find is a broken light fixture, some ruined landscaping, and the obvious lawn. I ask SEC to stay back, and continue talking to the officers, while I walked down one of the guest paths, that leads to some rooms, thinking maybe the member had confused that for the nature trail (the trail circles the whole property, but connects to the guest paths).
The property is 88 acres... we have proof, via the tread marks, the van exists; it has to be somewhere!
As I walk further down the path, I see yet another broken light fixture. BINGO We're on the right path! I continue down, scanning for a path of destruction, to lead me to this mysterious van. Just as I'm asking myself, "how in the 7 Hells did this guy drive this far down? It's so narrow!" I look up, and am greeted with the tail end of a vehicle, quietly parked at the end of the path, blocking the entrance of a couple of our rooms, no where near a parking lot, where it should be resting.
Ladies, gentlemen, and nonbinary individuals... we got 'em!
Unable to hold back my astonishment, I start cackling like a witch, at the absurdity of the sight before me; I then yell back to SEC, "Bro! I found it!" Before falling back into laughter. I had the mental clarity to search around the vehicle, seeing if anyone was inside; as well as to check for more damage; or to make sure no guest was potentially pinned underneath this beast.
SEC and PD make their way over, while I'm still cracking up, realizing I'm the closest person to a supervisor, so I'll have to stay as long as PD is here, and help file reports; what a joy my job is!
I tell SEC to call SecDir back, and tell her she needs to get back on property; she agrees, and has an ETA of 10 mins.
I call 2nd shift with my cell phone, to front desk phone, and update her; she's laughing along with me; and I break the news that she will have to cover the desk, until this is sorted out. "No problem! Just take lots of pictures!"
I'm already on it!
PD searches the vehicle, and finds... drumroll please METH! Woo-hoo! This fucker was high as a kite! It's a miracle he didn't hit anyone, driving over the guest path. No identification found in the vehicle, other than a note with a name scribbled on it, so PD runs the plates; asking us to check if the name matches with any guests in house. IT BETTER NOT! I have 2nd shift on the phone, asking her to run names for me; no dice. I also ask her to look up the name on the note; nothing.
We're informed PD is going to fly a drone over the property, to check for heat signatures, trying to find our guy, seeing if he's still meandering in the desert. Nada...
Some guests I had checked in the night prior, walk by, and see the whole ordeal, with me pacing around, chatting to officers, and SEC. I check in with them, asking if they happened to see anything, or if they were just coming back? They had been out all night, and were just getting in; they ask what's happened, and if it's OK to watch; I'm not stopping them, I think it's funny as hell; they pull up their patio furniture, and peek over their wall to watch PD, SEC and I plan how to get the van out. (Sealth lvl 10)
Other guests come by, having just checked in, and warned of the chaos going on, and ask for directions to their room; I point them in the direction, apologizing for the disturbance, and getting a giggle from them, as they ask if every night is this exciting? "Gods I hope not!"
SecDir is back on site, and the big bosses have said they want to remove the van. Perfect! How...?
PD offers to get a tow truck to remove it, but that risks causing more damage to the property. Yeah... no. Let's try avoiding adding more damage to the landscaping, because I know grounds is gonna be pissed when they see what's happened to the lawn, and some of the perfectly curated plants on the path. Lucky us, while searching the vehicle, PD found the keys in the ignition! SecDir asks that I call our Front Desk Director (my boss), and ask how she wants us to get the van out; SEC offers to drive it out, and we just guide him around, to make sure he doesn't do significant damage to the property. My boss gives the all clear, and we all take position; PD in front, with SecDir, and me following behind, to make sure the tail end of the van clears things, or offering a push, if we get stuck on decorative boulders.
After about 5 mins, of yelling and directing, the van is returned to the black top, that is a parking lot, with cheers and applause! PD gets final statements from us, and suggests we get the van towed ASAP, so if the original driver returns, he might come to the desk looking for his vehicle/keys; basically setting a trap, so we could call PD if/when he returns. I thank the officers, and my team, for a job well done, then return to the desk; time to begin writing reports, updating the big bosses, and searching for 24hr towing...
My coworker is all giddy from the excitement, as I show her pictures I had taken; kicking myself for not having recorded us driving the van out, to document any damages we may have caused, but, oh well, I'm sure the bosses won't mind. I eventually get a hold of a tow company, and am informed they can't tow the vehicle, until after 48hrs, due to a new bill that has been passed in my state; but, they can come tag the vehicle; perfect! I keep SEC informed, so he can update his reports, and give him the van keys to hold onto, along with the tow companies info.
My coworker finally decides to leave the desk, and wants to go work out at the fitness center; it's almost 2am at this point, and her gym is closed. I don't have a problem with it, so I give her a member key. I include this information for a reason...
Around 2:45am, just as I'm preparing to run audit, I get a call from my coworker; I answer, "is everything okay?" And all I hear is her say, "I think the guy is back!" No. Fucking. Way. She continues, "I was about to leave, when I saw, someone I thought was a guest, stumbling around the ballroom area, and I asked if he needed help. He mumbled, and I couldn't understand him. Then I realized, he fit the description of our missing driver! He's in the parking lot right now, just kinda wandering."

2024.05.20 08:29 Foreign-Fact-1262 Have had baby beardie for almost 3 weeks. Did not know coil UVB was wrong initially but now have the correct one. Will he/she be okay or could the last couple of weeks not having the right one caused a problem??

He/she is active in the daytime beginning shortly after lights are turned on and eats the bugs quickly and easily. Has shed from the tail and face once and from legs twice since being home. I thought we were in good shape until learning about the coil uvb being unacceptable for them. I ordered a t5 tube uvb and set it up today but Iâm so scared that we may have messed up by being without the tube uvb from day 1. It's stuck in my mind, trapped and buried in the deepest regions, only to resurface when my mind wonders. I'll be on the brink of sleep, drifting off when the haunting memories return to me. It was to become a man they told me, but it simply made me less of a human.
Decades ago, the summer heat rained down on our small town in Texas. The only safety for the younglings was the shade of trees as our parents forced us outside til the dinner bell rang. School was out, and there was almost nothing to do. Worse of all, my parents refused to take me to the local pool, citing health concerns.
Alas, there was a saving grace. Within the roughly 50-acre plot of forest at the end of the culdesac resided a sprawling stream system. Most of it was muddy or sandy with shallow water, but a specific section sported a large rocky cliff and up to neck-high depths.
I remember the first time I saw him. Rumors and gossip were all I had known at the time. Tales that his eyes stared blankly, the way he acted like a toddler, and his limping gait. I'll admit that most were lies, but the first was most definitely true.
At a gas station, I eyed a candy bar to my right. I almost went to ask my mother for it before I felt a sensation of being watched. Turning to face the people ahead of us in the line, I caught his gaze. His brown eyes stared into mine, still and unmoving.
It was a quick encounter, his mother finalizing the purchase and leaving with him. He stared as he walked out the door, continuing til he was placed into the beaten red truck. Even though it was a short encounter, I already felt the weird feelings the others described.
Laying in my bed, I couldn't help but to think about his stare. It was almost as if there wasn't a mind behind those eyes, simply the shell of a person. The next day, I sat in the living room playing with my action figures. Suddenly a knock rang out from the front door, and I quickly made my way to open it.
Jake and Ethan stood in front of me. They were barely older, but at that age, it made all the difference. I considered myself the luckiest boy in the world to be able to play with older kids, even if the age gap was only a year.
"We're gonna go to the hole, wanna come?" Jake said enthusiastically. He was the leader of our little trio, his ideas of what to do clashing with the boredom of summer.
Enthusiastically I agreed. And quickly after that, I slid on my already tied shoes, following them as we began down the street. Just a minute after leaving the house, I already wished that I didn't. The heat was severe, made worse by the almost zero humidity. I couldn't wait to submerge myself into the refreshing waters of the creek.
Suddenly a bang erupted from the yard to my right, and my head instantly shifted in that direction. The boy was out there, a stick in his hand striking one of the large pines on their property.
Upon noticing me, his arms went limp, his eyes trailing me. Thinking back now, it was obvious that he wasn't smart. He probably had some type of learning disability, autism, or something. I'm not a doctor, but he simply wasn't like the rest of us, and that was why he was outcasted by the kids of the neighborhood.
That didn't matter though, the boy never left his yard. After we came back, our boxers drenched, I saw him attempt to follow me. A shout came from the open window, and the boy stopped, turning and beginning to make his way to the front door. I never saw his father, though, I wouldn't blame him if he packed his bags and left.
The day it happened was humid. Jake and Ethan had invited me to go play at the hole, and I gratefully accepted. As we made our way to the tree line, I noticed the boy hiding behind his tree, a large stick in his hand. Paying no attention, we continued forward, pushing through the thick undergrowth. As we walked, I began to hear what sounded like a set of footsteps behind us. Though every time I turned my head, I would see nothing.
"Do you guys hear something?" I questioned, the others stopping to examine me.
"Are you really scared of the woods?" Ethan asked, a smile on his face.
"What?! No!" I rebuttled as they laughed. Both of them began to walk forward, and after a final glance behind, I followed.
Suddenly he appeared in front of us, his stance wide as he held the stick like a baseball bat. I let out a scream as he jumped out, settling down after I realized it was just simply him.
"What does this idiot want?" Jake questioned, watching as the boy began to approach.
Suddenly and without warning, he began to charge toward us. Jake backed up a little bit, as no matter the age or size of someone, a boy wielding a stick is terrifying, especially when you don't have one yourself. Turning tail, we began to flee, hopping over logs and stones as the boy gave chase.
After a minute of running, Jake skidded to a stop. We were atop the peak of the cliff, around a twenty-foot drop. Rumors of a child jumping off into the water and surviving was prevalent at the time, but none attempted to recreate it.
He approached from behind as we turned in unison. Taking the role of our protector, Jake stepped in front, ready for a fight. The boy slowly stepped forward, his pace steady with intent, and his eyes locked onto Jake. His jaw was limp and open, an obvious stain where drool sept out.
It was quick. It was just so quick. The boy rushed forward, swinging and hitting Jake in the side. He was weak though, and Jake was strong. Grabbing hold of his shirt, he spun him around, sending him flying off the cliff. I heard three impacts, the last one being a splash of water.
Peering over the edge, I stared at his limp body at the bottom of the cliff. The water around him was tinted red, his landing pad being a thin layer of water with sharp rocks under the surface. Glancing at each other wearily, we left, abandoning the crime scene.
When his mother realized her little boy was nowhere to be seen, she called the police. The search efforts were halted by a ravenous storm. His body was carried five miles down the stream, eventually catching onto a fallen tree. By the time a hiker found him, he was barely recognizable.
Animals had feastedâ NO! After all these years, I can't even tell the truth. No no no. I need to say it, I need to SAY IT! After he fell, we made our way down, approaching his mangled body. He was gasping for air whilst crying. His jaw was crooked, blood seeping out of a wound on his forehead.
He must've broken his back because he didn't move much. His eyes, oh god his eyes. They stared into mine, wide and terrified. They... They made me do it. It wasn't my choice it was... It wasn't me! I wish I could go back, I wish I could fix things. They made me do it, THEY MADE ME DO IT...
They made me pick up a rock.

Hello, posting this to help people out who don't know what's going on.
When I first figured out I was being watched by these people I would try my best to avoid them and take side streets and nature paths in order to learn the extent I was being followed.
Turns out many many people, it seems like most people are apart of Neighborhood Watch and very few people were not invited.
My family and friends are apart of neighborhood watch and refuse to talk to me about it I don't know why. Well, they aren't my family and friends anymore because real friends & family don't do that.
I was told by someone who works for CSIS how to get off the watchlist here's how you do it:
Don't look suspicious, don't act paranoid, don't be negative or aggressive, don't do crime, live a normal life and pretty much just ignore it. Work your job, have a normal routine and stop associating with certain people in your life who might be a criminal.
Sounds odd because I've been getting stalked by these people since I was 13 but that was during a period where I was being bullied by people in my school immensely so that might have gave Neighborhood Watch an incentive to watch me in order for my protection.
Anyway not to talk too much about myself here... If you live your life for a long time, and I mean a long long time Neighborhood Watch and the Feds who are the mastermind behind this see that there is nothing going on with you they'll move on and stop watching you.
Right now, you're where the money's at. For whatever reason there's an incentive to watch you and that gives them a reason to do their job, write reports etc and gives them a reason to justify the surveillance and when these numbers where people are being watched they will be able to justify to courts why the need more funding for this type of surveillance.
I've been attacked by people on Neighborhood Watch many many times and have been set up several times to get arrested for crimes I didn't do. I've been set up so many times and it's all so they can justify why they need to watch me.... It's all BS they don't want to let me go, they want to aggravate me, harass me, stalk and attack me in order to keep me in a alert, panicked, negative and spiteful frame of mind in order for them to get me to retaliate and justify the surveillance for them in order for them to fill out reports to use in the courts so they can keep their numbers high, increase their fundings which will increase their pay, yadayadaya.
Stay out in the open, because they look for ways to attack and harass you in ways you'll have a hard time proving that they're doing that because these people are afraid of getting caught and are afraid of the police.
I've pissed off so many of these people by playing their game back (nothing illegal) and I've watched them get pissed off, yell at me, walk around me trying to find anything they can use to get back at me and what stops them is that they are in public and on camera, or other stalkers who WILL snitch on them are watching their move too because there are good, good and naive and ignorant stalkers who will snitch on their own stalkers if they see anything they do that's wrong. I've had stalkers snitch on other stalkers and tell the police that someone attacked me and that person got arrested and I doubt they're still on the Neighborhood Watch anymore.
I believe it's a CIA program at it's core trying to hurt people, manipulate people, behavior modify people whatever it is that CIA is known to do in the past I believe they're still doing it through Neighborhood Watch.... Mass shooters are on the rise and I believe CIA might be experimenting on people in ways where they can get away with it, just like how Neighborhood Watch people are trying to stalk you and harass you in ways they can get away with it and make it hard for you to prove it's happening.
Basically stay in the open, try your best not to retaliate, keep a normal routine and don't do anything illegal or shady and they'll see that nothing is going on with you over a LONG time and they'll move onto someone else. The person who works for CSIS told me that they'll come back and check up on you again, and again, a few times until they finally stop so keep that in mind. The stalkers are also getting stalked occasionally but they aren't aware, like we are.
The best way to spot these stalkers is if they have their phone out and the phone camera is pointed at you these people always have their phone out, and earphones in their ear sometimes they'll keep it in one ear and sit on a bus or somewhere or walk by you with the other ear faced to you showing nothing's in their ear meanwhile they got an earpod often times in the other ear on the side not faced to you.
They'll show you if you confront them that they aren't recording you or that they don't have their voice call/face time up but they're able to minimize it or close it, then turn it back on when you aren't looking, I promise you they are face timing someone and that person who is face timing you is screen recording everything.
Ignore the posts about freemasons, illuminati, all that stupidness it's THEM trying to discredit people from speaking out and make us all sound crazy it's simply Neighborhood Watch and CIA/CSIS/NSA that's behind all of this, but the people on foot they're all Neighborhood Watch and they get paid by Patreon, it's all volunteer work some of them do get paid but it's from donations for example, some neighborhood watches have everyone donate $5 a month and pool it all together and these people get paid mcdonalds, or gift cards, and the extreme stalkers can up to $300 a week or more depending on how often they're stalking.
The intelligence agencies do recruit people from time to time, but most of the time, like 98% of the time it's simply Neighborhood Watch and disinformation assholes online trying to confuse everyone about what's actually going on.
Keep spreading the word, it's simply Neighborhood Watch and the Federal Intelligent Agencies behind all of this.... maybe you hit their radar for whatever reason just don't give them an incentive to watch you anymore like I said earlier and you'll be fine and remember, the stalkers occasionally get stalked too so don't take it personal and if you're dealing with bad neighbors harassing you maybe find legal ways to piss them off but legal, nothing illegal for example... crank up your music full blast (provided it's not past the legal limit) and put it up towards your ceiling or something like that.
Also.... one more important thing to tell you.
Some of these guys can see through your walls right? Yeah, I'm very familiar with this.
Look up the device called VAYYAR.... It allows people to see through the ceiling, the floor and the walls and it's very cheap this is the sort of device they use to spy through the walls and also please check your outlets because I had a pinhole camera in my washroom very nasty stuff they did to me but I want to spread the word because I wanna help anyone I can out there.
For police who try to suggest mental health problems, simply say you aren't a danger to yourself and others, and don't say you're mad or violent or anything negative just keep it simple and they'll have nothing they can use to apprehend you and put you in a mental hospital because some of them who know what's going on usually the supervisors want to make you scared and shut you up but I'm not a conformist not in the slightest and neither should you be.... Stand up for yourself we're dealing with evil vigilantes who are told propaganda about us in order to get them to sometimes hate us and they feel justified in doing what they're doing to us.
There's many ways to legally piss people off just in case your case is severe and you're dealing with people who are maliciously trying to hurt you and get away with it, and no cops are helping you. I've seen cases where they were jumping on someone's tiny home at night and throwing eggs at someone's house, or meeting someone where there's no cameras and assaulting their target and running off and cops don't help that person it's terrible and you don't need to put up with that so I'll tell you some tips:
Take a picture with your flash on and let them know you took a picture of them. Sometimes they'll get right in front of you and/or yell at you.... it's just them trying to intimidate you into stopping but they will not and cannot touch you because they know other stalkers are watching this go down, or cameras are in the area do not be intimidated even if it's a big scary looking person if you know they're a stalker then do not be intimidated at all it's all BS trust me, they will not touch you, and in the odd case they do press charges and get that stalker the jail time they need and file a lawsuit against that person and get paid if you can but 99.99% of the time they will not touch you, they'll only act like they will.
Don't take pictures of any children or teenager follows or harassing you, especially since they're children just accept that they've been duped and if they're actually breaking the law though and you can prove it, like if they're harassing you then video tape of course and protect yourself but only if you can prove it 100%
Be careful with taking videos and pictures, because sometimes they are recording you and won't stop or react as you're doing it and then they'll post what you're doing on their Facebook, Twitter, instagram, snapchat, youtube or wherever else even Discord and will frame you as a weirdo even though they are so be careful.
If you're walking by, no one's going to blame you for being a Klutz and accidentally step on their shoes or toes, I mean, things happen right?
Or if you have a water bottle you bought from the store and the lid is hard to open, no one is going to blame you if you accidentally open the water bottle and your arm flings to the side with the bottle in hand and you end up splashing one of them in the faces.
No one is going to blame you, if you have a coffee in your hand and you trip and you spill it all over them, or if you walk by and your heavy bag hits them in the head, I mean these are all accidents and no one can blame you for it just make sure you're not doing it on purpose ;)
They want to play their game, well there are ways we can play this back. We don't have to be as careful anymore when it comes to being considerate, or being mindful of where peoples feet are on the bus or subway, or wherever we no longer need to be mindful just don't do anything on purpose ;) and you're all good.
If you're being tailed by a stalker and cops won't listen to you.... Go to a side street at night as you're being stalked and while this is taking place, have in your trunk some big thick and possible sharp gravel or rocks in a bag and dump them all over the road where you know your stalker will be driving... lets say they drove past you... They'll take a U-Turn and drive back, so dump it wherever you know they'll be coming and say F them and their tires, they shouldn't be stalking you anyway.
I'll try to make more posts in the future if i can but I believe the Mods on this subbreddit are the ''Gangstalkers'' and they are controlling what is put out there so in case this post doesn't even make it, I'll simply just PM everyone on a day to day basis with this information instead and I'll make my own subreddit and PM everyone to join that one if the Mods feel like playing that game by censoring true and helpful information.

Present are Steven Greer, Patrick Sullivan, and Shari Adamiak. We have just camped out on a road of a county road between Midway and Dexter. We have seen one anomalous object flying in the East, very low to the horizon headed towards the North. Did not appear to have any strobing lights. When Steven signaled to it, the object rose up a little bit and became noticeably brighter, changing from red to white. Also, as that was occurring, I saw a shooting star at about 25° above the Eastern horizon headed North. 10:50pm and two shooting stars just seen in the zenith by Patrick and Steven. Patrick just reported a very brilliant shooting star, shooting from East to West by the Milky Way. It's about 11:00. Patrick said it was the fastest "shooting star" he's ever seen. Just a moment later a second shooting star was seen by Patrick almost parallel to the other. It's just a minute or so after 11:00 and we have just been observing in the SE a very unusual strobing object visible only through the night vision scope, moving very low to the horizon with a rapid strobe to it. We can't see it with the naked eye. At 11:40pm we had an experience during Coherent Thought Sequencing (CTS) where Steven and I both felt there was something directly over us and at the same time Patrick reported seeing a strobing above us. Steven then felt they were directly behind his head. The hair on the back of his neck stood up. He got up and on the very low Northern horizon was able to see the red-amber colored light. It's about midnight. We're having an unusual sighting over in the East. We've been watching an object that moved South and then became stationary. Now it looks as if it could be a planet rising. It has a red-amber look to it or the object could be just totally stationary. We did signal to it. It seemed to flare up. It's about 5° above the horizon, directly across from us in the East. This object that we were looking at appeared to have positioned itself in front of either Regel or Betelgeuse in Orion, which that was a part of and is now fully risen and is beautiful in the Eastern sky. ~October 3, 1994:~ We are out at a site East of Roswell. It's just a minute or two before 7:00pm. We're getting something to east. Itâs partly cloudy. Itâs in the 70s. It looks like it will be fairly clear for most of the night. West. We are directly across from the mountain Capital to the West. To our East there is a vent for a gas well that's burning. It's 7:50 and in the East towards Midway we are observing some twinkling, strobing type lights. There are two or three of them. They seem to be like the lights described that Mr. Escamillo has on video from Midway. About a minute later, we don't see them at all. Oh, I just saw one flash farther to the East. We are not sure if these could be aircraft or something anomalous. They are dim to bright and white. These white blinking objects have continued on to the East, traveling in the South part of the sky. They are continuing to do strobing and flashing but in no regular pattern. They appear to be chasing each other randomly across the sky, rather slowly. It's 10:15pm and there is one single white bright light appearing in the South that is signaling back to us. It is very low on the horizon, maybe even on the ground. The object just signaled back twice after a signal sent to it of two flashes. It is in the area of Bottomless Lakes State Park, which is due South of us. It's about 5 or 10 minutes later and this light in the South is again signaling. It's moved just a bit. It moves a bit to the East or the West, but it's still completely low, right on the horizon. We don't know if it's terrestrial or extraterrestrial at this point. It is 10:35 when this signaling has reoccurred again. Steven is now looking at it through the night vision binoculars and he says it is a continuously illuminated object that's on right now, even when it is not signaling to us. It just now flashed again faintly. We will continue to signal to this and report. The sky has also become completely clear except for around the very far edges and just in the East. Through the night vision scope, Patrick is seeing that there is also a corresponding strobing light in the sky about 10° above the horizon that's in synch with the one that's here on the ground. But we cannot see the one in the sky without using the night vision scope. It's 11:00 and the light across the road in the South by the Bottomless Lakes has just illuminated itself about 5 or 6 times to us. It definitely seems to be under intelligent control. The last round of signaling that's going on now started up just after we broadcast the tones out over the walkie-talkie. It's just a few minutes after 11:00 and Steven saw an extremely fast moving "meteorite" just to the East of zenith. He said it was faster than anything he's ever seen move. Also, it happened to Patrick last night - that same type of extremely fast moving object. It's 11:55 and we were just hit from behind to our East by some beam that was low and on the ground that swept right across the field encompassing us. NOTE THAT JUST AS I WAS TRANSCRIBING THIS, I LEARNED THAT THE TAPE IS BLANK FROM THIS POINT ON FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT. VERY INTERESTING IN THAT THE EVENT THAT FOLLOWED WAS VERY UNUSUAL. WHAT FOLLOWS IS MY NARRATIVE REPORT BASED ON RECOLLECTION SINCE THE TAPE HAS BEEN COMPROMISED. THE BLANK SPOT LASTS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS NIGHT'S DICTATION, THEN PICKS UP AGAIN ON THE FOLLOWING NIGHT'S FIELD DICTATION. I BELIEVE THIS BLANK SPACE IN THE TAPE IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE PSYCHOELECTRONIC ATTACK. Narrative Report: Soon after this round of light signaling, we did a Coherent Thought Sequencing. I was in a deep state of unbounded mind when I felt my body struck by an invisible beam of negative energy. It caused nearly total paralysis except that my body was wracked with small convulsions from what I sensed to be a psychoelectronic, non-lethal weapon. I could hear myself moaning slowly. I felt that the beam was coming from my left, towards Bottomless Lakes. I sensed three shadowy figures that appeared to be human men. The beam had the effect of separating me from my teammates. Since I only had the faculty of mind at my disposal during the attack, I mentally asked where Patrick and Steven were. I finally could sense Patrick out I front of me, distance away. I could not see or sense Steven. I kept asking mentally, âWhere is Steven?â in as authoritative tone as I could manage while under attack. Receiving no response, I began to mentally call to Steven. He must have mentally picked up my thoughts because I felt him take my hands even though he was not there physically. He then hugged me and the attack ended. I sensed that it was our combined energy that was able to break the beam. I then rather passed out for a few minutes. When our CTS ended, I clearly recalled everything that happened and knew I had not dozed off and had a dream. It was ultimately real. I was still a bit weak from the attack. Steven asked if something happened. I said, "you won't believe this" and proceeded to tell Steven and Patrick most of what occurred. Patrick had been unaware of any of this during our CTS. When I finished, Steven said, "wait until you hear this". During the CTS, he heard a voice that said, "are you ready to go?" He then felt that the energy was instantly scrambled and he lost the connection. He could hear me faintly moaning and sensed that I was in distress. He then came to me etherically and hugged me. The dove tailing of our experiences was incredible. For some days, I pondered on this event. It had a profound effect upon me, and still does to this day. I knew it was highly significant that we were able to break the attack with combined positive energy. I also instinctively and absolutely felt that the attack had come from human beings. I knew that it was not sent by extraterrestrials. The beam carried with it fear and terror which I knew were being projected upon me by an outside force. I did not feel that fear and terror from within my own being, but I was forced to experience it. We then saw the ground-based lights at Bottomless Lakes flashing randomly again. It was nearly 1:00 by now and we decided to pack up. And drive over there to investigate. As we were in a flat open area, and anyone at Bottomless could have seen us coming for literally a mile. We drove around the Bottomless Lakes State Park, shining our 1.5 million candle power light all about. No traces of anyone or any vehicles were seen. There is a county road that cuts out of Bottomless Lakes which could make for an easy get-away for any one in that park. This actually was conceived by a friend of mine Typhon-Torrent-1994 who is also the writer of the Lumity Dependency stories on Archive of Our Own that Trivia originates from. She is actually the wife of Azura Blight, the child of Luz and Amity in their story which also has them become immortal but that is something else. Her name is Trivia Nycteria Despoina Erodia. But people call her Trivia for short. Anyways, I really like the concept and decided to draw out how it looks for both myself and the writer. And what do you know, it turns out Trivia is alluding to Hecate, what with having three faces (those snakes on her neck count as two). Those snakes are named Heca and Tee which have minds of their own. So me and Typhon agreed that we should share the same character for our respective stories. But my Trivia is going to be different from hers. So Trivia is the child of two hybrids, a Witch- Beast Demon Hybrid and a Bipedal Demon- Bug Demon hybrid. She is considered very strange even compared to other Demons. Her parents do love her but have her wear disguises in order to help her better fit in public so that she won't be harassed the same way they were. And there is also the health problems she might have to deal with due to being a mishmash of so many different races. Triva is every single race in the Demon realm combined. (except for Titan) Even her Palisman is a Chimera in itself, being a German Shephard crossed with a Lion and a Frog with a dagger on its tail. It's just a few minutes after 11:00 and Steven saw an extremely fast moving "meteorite" just to the East of zenith. He said it was faster than anything he's ever seen move. It's 11:55 and we were just hit from behind to our East by some beam that was low and on the ground that swept right across the field encompassing us. Iâve always liked sub, but in recent years Iâve been trying my hand at dubs because I do feel a greater connection when I can hear their voice. But I was comparing two early episodes, and couldnât help but hear quite a few mistranslations that either change the context of a scene (erza being somewhat airheaded and going off topic to talk about the -ebi ending of cancer in sub vs. saying she finds him calling Lucy âbabyâ disrespectful paints a different characterization in that moment) or just straight misinformation (erzaâs black wing armor is stated to just âboost attackâ in dub when the sub explains that itâs just for a singular attack, which will sell the wrong idea). These are just examples and it happens in a noticeable amount of scenes
Anyway, I just want to know if this kind of thing is prevalent throughout, or if it improves with the showâs runtime/increasing popularity. Iâd love to experience the dub on the rewatch, but I have no memory of the show and donât want to be fed misinfo and mistranslations thatâll detract from the intended meaning.

Hi, sharing a method I recently used to resuscitate my 1990s-era Kit Kat Clockâs tail and eye movement, in case itâs helpful for others whose Kit Kats seem beyond salvageable, and are willing to experiment â YMMV:
After a few years of relatively trouble-free operation, my Kit-Kat Clockâs tail and eyes stopped moving again, and despite trying every method Iâve used in the past (and searching for new tips online), nothing worked to remedy it. I even tried the technique of adding small neodymium magnets, and as a last resort removing the eyes completely to let the tail swing freely, but still no movement. (BTW the actual clock itself still works fine).
I suspected the issue was related to the electromagnet controlling the tail movement, so I opened the clock to take a closer look at the connections. I confirmed that the wires were securely connected, and the PCB was getting power, but it wasnât driving the movement - so I assumed that either it or the magnetic coil must have failed at some point. I reached out to the folks at Kit Kat to order a replacement electromagnet to swap out on my own, but unfortunately, they donât carry them (maybe because mine is an older model?).
Before throwing in the towel, I decided to try a Hail Mary and see if replacing the electromagnet itself with a third-party option might salvage it. I found a cheap standalone pendulum driver on AliExpress (about US$ 5.00 w/shipping). It appeared to be about the right size in the photos and had its own battery posts - which also gave me the idea that if my experiment worked, I could potentially even power the tail movement separately from the clock (more on that later*).
When the pendulum driver arrived, I removed the original one from the clock and positioned the replacement to see if it would fit. The coil was considerably smaller than the original and the board was a tight fit, but by slightly trimming the corners of the PCB itself I got it to sit flush in the cavity where the old coil was. I connected it to a battery and crossed my fingers, and lo and behold the tail was swinging once again!

Afterwards, I realized I needed to make it easier to access the battery that powers the new electromagnet, since it sits behind the apparatus holding the original C cells. So I soldered leads onto the contacts of the pendulum driver and connected them to a small battery holder, and mounted the holder inside the clock cover with Velcro tape. *FWIW I realize I probably could have bypassed the extra battery setup and connected the wires powering the old PCB directly to the new electromagnet. But Itâs kind of nice to have the tail power separate from the clock power, based on my assumption that providing dedicated power to each will allow them to run longer individually. Depending on how long the tail battery lasts, I may consider swapping in a 2-battery holder in the future.

I just got myself a 1988 jeep cherokee, 2dr 4wd. I got a few questions about it.
1st, which lights are the "running" lights? When I pull the knob to the first stop, on the front one side I have the bottom and side light on, and on the other side I only got the side light on. On the back, one side I have the red (brake light) on and reverse lamp on. On the other I have the turn signal on and reverse lamp on. I believe someone flipped the lights at one point and never realized.
On the dash, the right turn signal stays on when turning on the lights, but it isn't flashing. Which on the back side, it is the same side that the turn signal light stays on.
I can't seem to find the high beam switch, pulling the light switch to the second stop brings my headlights on.
I'm not sure if someone changed the seats out, but I'm 5'9" and sitting inside I'm about 3 inches from the headliner. I do know the seat is broken so I'll have to fix it anyways.
The buzzer stays on when I turn on the lights, but it may have been from me leaving the driver's door open. I need to double check tomorrow.
I need to fix the catalytic converter to smog the jeep then I can register it but the lighting is my biggest concern at the moment (for driving safely)

A wise man once told me this: âYou need to think wealthy before you become wealthyâI remember these words like it was yesterday⌠And I like what it means. But I had one problem though. I struggled to understand the specific principles that wealthy people used to think. So tell me something⌠How did you buy your first car? Did you buy it cash down? Or, did you borrow money? Took an auto loan, perhaps? Let me tell you a little story. Buying my first car.Over twenty years ago, I bought my first car.And everything happened so quickly⌠A car salesman stopped me at my office lobby. He asked if I was interested in buying a car. And he handed me a pamphlet. It basically said that based on my salary, I was eligible to take an auto loan. The promise that I could drive a brand-new car in ten days was too tempting. So I gave in. I signed up for an auto loan. And in less than ten days, I had this shiny new gray-color car! It had power windows, an electronic steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirrors, and all the bells and whistles. Smart move, right? Hold on to your horses!Smart move or not, Iâll let you decide after youâre done reading the rest of this post.Recently, Iâve been binge-listening to some of the backdated episodes of a podcast I LOVE. And I bumped into a very familiar name. Syed Balkhi. The millionaire teen.I first heard of Syed long ago in 2006 when I started blogging. But little did I pay attention to what he did. All I knew was that he had a website called WPBeginner.It was a blog about WordPress for people who built WordPress websites or plugins. I liked his content and spent a lot of time reading his blog posts as I was building WordPress websites too. Syed is in his thirties today. Which means he mustâve been in his early teens in 2006! In about eighteen months of starting WPBeginner, he made his first million dollars in annual revenue. And ever since, heâs grown his business, Awesome Motive, big time by acquiring other WordPress companies. If you arenât familiar with WordPress, itâs a CMS software. Content Management System, in short. Itâs a software that supposedly powers 40% of the internet. But thatâs not the best part. Put simply, Syedâs businesses power 24% of the internet. This is HEWGE! Okay, another story⌠The gas station story.At some point on the podcast, Syed goesâŚâI bought a gas station, the first one, primarily because I wanted to offset expensesâŚâOffset expenses? I was on a run while listening to this, and almost tripped when he said that. Okay. Take a deep breath. I did that too⌠Coz from this point on, itâs PURE GOLD. And here goes the first and biggest lesson in wealth creation⌠Tip #1: Every time you need to buy a depreciating asset, invest in an appreciating asset.Syed says he learned this lesson from his mentor when he was thirteen or fourteen.The best way to understand this is to loop back to my opening story⌠When I bought my first car, I paid the monthly installments using my salary. But when Syedâs mentor bought his Mercedes, he didnât spend money from his savings. Instead, he decided to invest money in real estate. And he used the returns from that real estate to finance his shiny new Mercedes. When Syedâs wife was pregnant with their first son⌠He followed the exact blueprint. He knew the money one would need with a baby birth â hospital charges, medicines, diapers, toys, and everything else! So instead of spending money from his savings, Syed used the lesson he learned from his mentor to cover the cost of raising a baby â he bought a gas station! It didnât just give him the money to pay for the baby shower and childbirth. The gas station would continue to generate a steady flow of cash every single year. Darn! Why didnât it ever strike me before? Mentor, baby! Iâm glad to have found one in a podcast! Okay, letâs look at the next one⌠Tip #2: Build a recurring revenue businessIn a content business, you turn email subscribers into paying customers. But Syed calls them just re-occurring revenue. The revenue occurs every time someone on your list buys something from you.A new customer pays once. And unless you sell them something else, you arenât going to make bank. The only way your business is going to see revenue trickle in from that customer is when you sell to them again. The solution? Build a recurring revenue business. Syed regularly invests and acquires other WordPress software and tools businesses. This allows him to cross-sell software and tools to existing info product customers. Of course, you can build recurring revenue info products too, using memberships and subscriptions â but Syed didnât get into that on this podcast. So yes, using revenue to acquire new businesses is a great idea. But how much should you invest? Syed has stuck to one principle: Tip #3: Heads I win, tails I donât lose muchSyed learned this principle from his friend Monish Pabrai.In his book The Dhando Investor, Monish talks about the Patels of India. He describes how this relatively tiny subset of humanity from eastern India went on to own most of the motels in the United States. According to Monish, one of the biggest reasons why the Patels have been successful in business is because they always have followed this principle â heads I win, tails I donât lose much. So what does this mean? Letâs look at it with an example. Assume the intrinsic value of a certain business is $1,000,000, and you buy it for $700,000. What you just did in that transaction is what he describes as a âheads I win, tails I donât lose muchâ. Because letâs say you did a great job with the business and the intrinsic value went up â you win! But just in case you didnât do much with the business and the intrinsic value dropped by $400,000, you only lose $100,000. Heads you win, tails you donât lose much! This is wild! At this point, I was fully invested in listening to this conversation. And I was just getting restless thinking⌠âHow can I buy a business on the cheap?â And it just felt like the hosts heard me! Letâs look at the answer to my question. Tip #4: Identify âmismanaged gemsâ to compound at high double-digitBack in the 1990s, my uncle built an empire buying distressed real estate properties. And it wasnât easy. Every time he bought one, there was a lot of work to be done.From litigation and dispute issues to structural issues, he was usually handed a mess. Thatâs why they were called distressed assets â thankfully, my uncle had the wherewithal to turn them around. Mismanaged gems are different. Syed describes mismanaged gems as good (online) businesses with some limitations. These could be in the form of having limited revenue streams, limited target audience, or something else. Letâs look at a couple of examplesâŚ
âA business might only be thinking about monetizing from one angle. Theyâre not thinking about it from a full perspective. So I can look at it and say well yes this is the current revenue today, and Iâm getting a bargain on todayâs revenue. But here are my contracts that I have with so many different partners and vendors and such that Iâll be able to unlock extra revenue here, here, and here. So I turned this business that has one revenue stream to having like multiple revenue streams. Thatâs how you take something that was doing like no revenue to or very low revenue to having five eight ten million dollars in revenue.â â Syed Balkhi Tip #5: Leverage the Ecosystem effectIf youâre starting a business, look for an ecosystem. What does that mean?Syedâs entire online business is built around the WordPress ecosystem. But there are many other software platforms like WordPress that have an ecosystem. Look at software like QuickBooks, Google Chrome, or Xero. These software platforms are built like an ecosystem, allowing developers to build plugins and extensions. Most of these plugins and extensions are sizeable businesses in and of themselves. So if youâre starting a business, youâre better off starting one inside an ecosystem. Starting a business inside an ecosystem exposes you to massive opportunities. You can grow your business through acquisitions, and cross-selling, amongst many other ways. And this also helps you compound over time. Bonus âRickâ Tip: Donât be in a hurry to get wealthyHave you heard of Rick Guerin?If you havenât, no worries. Neither did I â until I listened to this podcast. Rick Guerin was Warren Buffett and Charlie Mungerâs third business partner at Berkshire Hathaway. Huh? Really? I couldnât believe it either. A third partner? So looked up the interwebs for proof. It turns out to be TRUE! Hereâs how Monish Pabrai describes what happened to Rick: âIn the â73, â74 downturn, Rick was levered with margin loans. And the stock market went down almost 70% in those two years, and so he got margin calls out the yin-yang, and he sold his Berkshire (Hathaway) stock to Warren. Warren actually said, I bought Rickâs Berkshire stock at under $40 apiece, and so Rick was forced to sell shares at ⌠$40 apiece because he was levered.âRick was just as smart as Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger.  | We brought our crestie to our wedding and everything went great! submitted by sfgaspari to CrestedGecko [link] [comments] She was definitely a little bitter about being in the smaller enclosure for a few days, I didnât put much in there except for her food, water, and some vines. I didnât want to disturb her bio set up by taking a bunch of stuff out. She spent most of the time on the front screen wanting out, but all in all she did well. We sat her between our two kids in the back seat and she slept the whole drive up. On the way back, she wouldnât settle and was jumping around so I took her out and let her hand crawl for like 20 mins while we worked our way thru the mountain roads since I didnât want her to fall if we hit a bump or something. She settled down after she got the energy out and was fine the whole way home. She was definitely happy to get back into her bio. Usually she sleeps steadily during the day, but she spent the whole afternoon wandering around and reacquainting herself- I canât imagine their short term memory is all that advanced hahaha. Anyway, she still has a tail, sheâs happy to be home, and looks nice and healthy. The altitude change from 6 thousand feet to 9 thousand didnât seem to faze her at all. Anyway, here she is pausing from hand crawling to pose for a pic in the car, lol. |
