Okay, I hope I don't get torn apart for this. Just being honest about what I'm experiencing, and trying to make sure I don't fall down the wrong path.

Lately, my social media feed has been showing me a ton of those male-run dating podcast-type videos. The ones with the toxic misogynistic men sitting around a table complaining about women. At first, I swiped right past the video. But I ended up listening to one, and then another and another. I have to admit the videos are really appealing to someone like me. A group of people telling me that it isn't my fault that I'm 37 and single still, it's women's fault. Telling me that It's not because I'm short, lost my hair, and am a little overweight. but that it's because women are selfish and only want tall rich men. Those kinds of statements honestly were making me feel better like it was not me who was the problem. I feel like this is a super bad thing to start relating to. Continuing my musing after my 6 year long hiatus from playing the game.
On summer now, making my way to crafting survivor gear; light gloves, light boots, firehood (light before but I needed to level up tailoring for the trenchcoat which will be my last piece for now, then maybe a mask)... basically it saps a lot of time.
Don't remember how long it took back in 0.C experimental days, but there's definitely more restriction now in some senses. Food and water, especially water is an issue. Many times got messages saying my survivor is dehydrated, and gulping down all the water isn't as easy as it should. So I have to be mindful and feed my survivor and make sure they're not dehydrated in the first place.
Food's also harder to come by - at least the one you make. Aspic isn't as easy to craft, jerky and lard takes time, more time it feels. Not enough time to cook up what you get from a body before it rots - though maybe its because its summer and all that.
And the reason for the rush? Zombies evolves, and once you get zombie masters all bets are off, really. On a night raid with good visibility, you can't see the master most of the time, but can see well enough to see the kevlar hulks ambling about.
Not a rant nor a complaint. Just my observation.

Today we’ll look at how you find files, and text inside these files, quickly and efficiently.
It can be very frustrating to know that a file or setting exists, but not be able to track it down! Master today’s commands and you’ll be much more confident as you administer your systems.
Today you’ll look at some useful tools:

locate
find
grep
which

locate

If you're looking for a file called access.log then the quickest approach is to use "locate" like this:

$ locate access.log /valog/apache2/access.log /valog/apache2/access.log.1 /valog/apache2/access.log.2.gz

(If locate is not installed, do so with sudo apt install mlocate)
As you can see, by default it treats a search for "something" as a search for "*something*". It’s very fast because it searches an index, but if this index is out of date or missing it may not give you the answer you’re looking for. This is because the index is created by the updatedb command - typically run only nightly by cron. It may therefore be out of date for recently added files, so it can be worthwhile updating the index by manually running: sudo updatedb.

find

The find command searches down through a directory structure looking for files which match some criteria - which could be name, but also size, or when last updated etc. Try these examples:

find /var -name access.log find /home -mtime -3

The first searches for files with the name "access.log", the second for any file under /home with a last-modified date in the last 3 days.
These will take longer than locate did because they search through the filesystem directly rather from an index. Also, because find uses the permissions of the logged-in user you’ll get “permission denied” messages for many directories if you search the whole system. Starting the command with sudo of course will run it as root - or you could filter the errors with grep like this: find /var -name access.log 2>&1 grep -vi "Permission denied".
These examples are just the tip of a very large iceberg, check the articles in the RESOURCES section and work through as many examples as you can - time spent getting really comfortable with find is not wasted.

grep -R

Rather than asking "grep" to search for text within a specific file, you can give it a whole directory structure, and ask it to recursively search down through it, including following all symbolic links (which -r does not). This trick is particularly handy when you "just know" that an item appears "somewhere" - but are not sure where.
As an example, you know that “PermitRootLogin” is an ssh parameter in a config file somewhere under /etc, but can’t recall exactly where it is kept:
grep -R -i "PermitRootLogin" /etc/*
Because this only works on plain text files, it's most useful for the /etc and /valog folders. (Notice the -i which makes the search “case insensitive”, finding the setting even if it’s been entered as “Permitrootlogin”
You may now have logs like /valog/access.log.2.gz - these are older logs that have been compressed to save disk space - so you can't read them with less, or search them with grep. However, there are zless and zgrep, which do work, and on ordinary as well as compressed files.

It's sometimes useful to know where a command is being run from. If you type nano, and it starts, where is the nano binary coming from? The general rule is that the system will search through the locations setup in your "path". To see this type:
echo $PATH
To see where nano comes from, type:
which nano
Try this for grep, vi and service and reboot. You'll notice that they’re typically always in subfolders named bin, but that there are several different ones.

EXTENSION

The -exec feature of the find command is extremely powerful.
But "finding things" can go so much further than that! You can not only track down the content of a file, but also its usage with commands like lsof and fuser.

Hi all!
I (25F) am currently a marketing coordinator in Atlanta for a dental specialty company making 38K a year. I graduated with my PR degree in 2021 and wasn’t able to find work in marketing until 2023, but I have previous experience working closely with a professional sports team in an unrelated field (digital asset manager)
I want to start out by saying that my low salary is definitely my own doing. In the interview process (4 interviews + a personal phone call from the COO), I was asked how much I would like to be compensated. I was fearful of being rejected for the position by asking for too much, so I settled on asking for “anything above 35K” as to not scare an offer away. They let me know that I was an easy choice + the most suited for the position, and they offered me 38K. Sweet, I’ll take it.
The original scope of responsibilities included doing the referral marketing for all of our company’s offices for the state I live in. It’s a remote/hybrid position (which I realize is a huge blessing and understand why they are offering the lower end of the salary), but just a week after my start date I came to realize that all 4 of the other marketing coordinators in different regions were making almost 11K more than I am at their start date. I chalk this up to me being too afraid to ask for any more compensation, so again, no worries.
I didn’t start feeling slighted/overwhelmed until they entirely changed the scope of my responsibilities. At the beginning of 2024, our manager let us know that we would no longer personally be doing the face-to-face marketing ourselves, but simply supplying our offices with the necessary information (referral reports to show which offices to gift to) and general gifting ideas to give our offices a more limited scope of gift options and to prevent them from coming to us with crazy/unattainable gift ideas. Sounds great!
Every week, it seems that my manager adds a new responsibility to my plate. It started in January when she let us all know that we would be responsible for managing the marketing budgets of all of our practices, something I have no experience in and was only explained to once on a group Teams call. I recall asking her a question about whether an item fell under “promotional items” or “referral marketing”, and she replied with a long message with such snark that this is a learning moment for me to figure out myself.

My manager also put all of us coordinators on “development plans” (not improvement plans), and mine is to spend 2 hours of deep research of SEO and to send a page long report weekly and to have a presentation slideshow to present to her and our COO by May. I asked the other coordinators what their development plans were, and they were along the lines of “Try to improve public speaking by taking this HUB Academy class!” That required no further action items.
My manager requested that I be placed in our company’s “culture club” (I’m the only black team member) and the entire club has placed responsibility on me to create and execute all future events. I am not located in my company’s home-base city, so I’m not at headquarters daily to hear the updates to what we’re doing daily, and I often feel left in the dark and behind during our meetings while everyone else is caught up to speed, even though I let them know to please CC me on all emails pertaining to our club.
The straw on the back for me was a software cleanup effort that for some reason falls on our marketing team. All offices in our company use a software that, however outdated, they won’t switch to (and it makes sense-that would be a huge task), but in finding flaws in the system, they discovered that our referral reports were missing information such as practice names for our referrals, so it is put on us weekly to spend time going back and cleaning up that software.
This, along with randomly added responsibilities such as going through office calls and having to report on them in an excel sheet, doing an entire email campaign for one specific practice because my manager can’t say no, and the general miscommunication of everyone in our company has made me grow resentful.
My manager visited my city a few weeks ago and we traveled together to different practices to chat and see where they were at with marketing. It seemed like every chance she got, she would take digs at me to make me seem like a bimbo airhead who was only good for conversation (before I did asset management, I was a cheerleader for a pro sports team).
It all feels so targeted and unrelated at the same time, but I can’t help but question if I should bring any of this up on our 1x1 this week that she emailed me about today (on Sunday no less lol)

I (21F) have been living with my (43) mother my whole life. She has BPD and lost her parents at a very young age, so she never really knew how to be a mom. I was an easy child so I learned to do everything on my own while also becoming emotionally responsible for her since she made me her "best friend" who she told everything to from about age 5, then my brother (12M) came around and he wasn't so easy. She'd describe me as her pride and joy (also the only reason while she's still alive, since "accidentally becoming pregnant with me gave her life a meaning") and my brother as her biggest disappointment.
She's extremely loving when she's ok, cooks for me, takes me to school and picks me up, chats with me, hugs me, says nice things, treats me with extreme love and care, like a baby, gets me loads of presents for special ocasions and also pays for expensive vacations (we have a paid trip to Disney in september). But when she's not ok, it's hell.
She'll insult me, degrade me, humilliate me in front of people (usually her partners), hit me, say she doesn't love me, tells me to leave her house (while also trying her best to block every option I could have to do so). On a daily basis she'll complain about "having to" do her mother obligations while also saying it's not really her obligation and that me and my brother should be grateful she didn't just drop us off with out fathers and never saw us again. Also whenever she does something that hurts me, minutes or hours later she'll just switch and act lovingly, like nothing happened at all.
I tried to get out once before about two years ago, I wanted to move with some uncles that are elderly and have been like my grandparents my whole life. She made a scene and threatened them into asking me to go back with her.
Right now I have a wonderful partner who wants me to move with him, it's safe and also economically stable enough for me to be fine fully. The plan is I move when the semester ends (about 2 weeks), but since I made the decision I suffer every day.
I feel so sad leaving my mom, I have many extremely conflicting feelings, I don't want her to be sad, I don't want to abandon her, it'll break her heart. She'll also probably be furious at me, she may even cut contact. I don't want to lose her.
I feel terrible about wanting to do this and it's making me struggle so much while I the date for me to leave, comes. Her mood changes super quickly so we have issues and then an hour later she calls me baby and cooks for me, making me feel bad for wanting to go.

I came up with this theory the other day when trying to explain to a friend how I manage to throw excellent curveballs nearly every time using a variation of the Pythagorean Theorem. (Our geometry teachers prepared us for this moment! /s)
I’m sure I’m not the first, but I haven’t yet seen other people talk about this in detail.
Basically, I hold the Pokéball down stationary until the target circle is in the “excellent range”, then release and wait for it to attack. The target will remain the same size until you touch the ball again, and the attack animation pauses the target shrinkage, giving you a short window of opportunity to make your perfect throw.
Wait for the Pokémon to perform its attack move, then quickly spin the ball and throw along the “C” line, releasing as the monster is finishing its attack to hit perfectly in the middle.
The “trick” is having enough experience to gauge how far away each species of Pokémon will be in order to calculate how much force is needed to hit the target. Kind of like shooting a basketball.

I was recently watching a random video giving a POV of a returning player without addons. The base UI has surely improved a lot in the latest years but some rough edges still remain.
WoW misleads new players to keybind wrong
Setting keybinds is one of the most unintuitive things for new players nowadays. I'm not talking about the new click-to-bind interface (which is great).
WoW is a game meant to have more than 20 keybinds. This is core WoW, it makes the game unique and it is not changing. IMO it is fine that the new player has to learn lots of abilities (also, easy content can be done with half of them).
On the other hand, some initial difficulty could be skipped by fixing the misleading initial keybinding experience. WoW just throws buttons in your bar, and even suggests the new player to use the numbers 0-9 for them. The game should initially hint the new player a better way of keybinding (using the keys around WASD + modifiers). The bad keybinding experience adds up to the already heavy load of learning dozens of abilities.
There are multiple variations on how this could be done. Keybinding presets? New keyboard UI? I won't delve into implementations, but anything is better than misleading new players to use the 0-9 keys!
Keybinding and offspecs
Another keybinding issue I'd like to point is related to more advanced players. On the game UI, buttons have 2 functions: displaying status (stacks, CD, buffs, a glow etc) and to be a keybind placeholder. A player may organize the buttons on his bar to reflect priorities (ex: put a very important ability that must be used on cooldown on the first spot). This is bricked if the player wants to play multiple specs of the same class.
Ex: Let's say the spot 1 on a mistweaver bar is renewing mist, bound at Q. On windwalker is fists of fury, bound at 3. You can't now have both at spot 1 of you bar, since they have different keybinds. People currently fix this by using Weakauras as buttons. The WA is used for the status display, and the button is used solely for keybinding, and often hidden.

Greetings to everyone. Has anyone here worked at EWR7? I worked there for about a year from 2022 to 2023. I was very disappointed by my experience especially with the senior leadership team. I was signed on as a Full Time L1 Blue Badge Associate. I worked night shifts and quickly became fully trained in all roles. I actually was one of the few associates who was fully cross- trained in every process path at the site. Because of my unique skill set in both Problem Solve/ ICQA and Ship Dock I was consistently moved around for "business needs". I was very excited to be given more responsibilities. I quickly signed up for ASC ( Associate Safety Club).
However... Despite my initial success at EWR7. I faced a lot of bullying and harassment. I am of Indian- Middle Eastern ethnicity. I am a male of 26 years old with facial hair. I never once felt comfortable working at EWR7. I remember managers directly disrespecting me multiple times. I suffered from an injury in which I had a deep puncture wound in my hand. I had bled out all on the floor. I was shocked and lost a lot of blood. My direct manager was not on site that day. I felt like I was being interrogated by another female manager on how I got injured. She told me to clock out and head to the nearest hospital. Mind you, I was almost unconscious and couldn't really even walk properly. I ended up just clocking out and drove myself to the nearest ER....
In conclusion I did sue EWR7 and I won. I even had an appeal call to the current Senior OM. He is such a piece of shit. I had constantly posted on the VOA board addressing my concerns and barriers. Yet I was never spoken to or even acknowledged... EWR7 at Avenal New Jersey is ran by incompetent and unprofessional management... It is seriously like these managers read the 48 Laws of Power and take every law seriously. I mean there is no reasoning, logic or humanity in this workplace. I was treated like a dog. From being shunned because of my injury, becoming a liability to the workplace I tried to excel at.
Remember EWR7 you are nothing. David always beats Goliath. I'm so happy everyday I sued and I did win by the way. I also was the only Associate in history at EWR7 to be both in the top 1% for productivity and ALSO being the first ever Associate to spill blood on the floor...
Thank you for everything EWR7. You taught me how to assess and identify narcissistic co workers while protecting my own business. It is very sad actually because I fucking loved the job man... There was no better feeling being an L1 Associate running Problem Solve and Ship Dock. My direct AM was an amazing manager.
