Bear with me, as this post may be long, but I need some help/recommendations here. I read through a few posts within this community and I too have been a victim of this failure. I'm in a horrible position right now and it's looking like I'll have to pay out of pocket for the engine repair and I do not have the extra money for this.
I bought a 2016 Kia Soul from a private seller around Christmas 2023. The car appeared fine and the mechanic checked it out and said it was good. Not sure if they lied or not, but fast forward to February: the engine failed on me and I was stranded on the side of the road. I took it to a different mechanic and he determined that the engine did in fact fail and he let me know all about the Kia issues. This was a cash car so I honestly didn't look too much into the recalls and everything before I bought it. I thought the car was a decent buy and would last me for about 3-4 years. That is my bad and I take accountability for my lack of research this go around. The previous owner never did any of the recalls.
I took the car to a local Kia dealership in hopes to get it replaced under their warranty/Goodwill program. The car has been sitting on their service lot since late February and I was told today that the District Parts and Service Manager denied it. Now, it is up to Kia Corporate to approve it. They've been giving me the around since February and state that they keep "escalating" the case but I don't think they're doing anything and I'm worried that they will deny it as well. They are also stating that because the recalls were never done (specifically the recall relating to the catalytic convertor), this won't be covered.
How can I get this approved? I desperately need this repaired but I do not have the extra funds. The rentals, ride shares and other forms of transportation is KILLING me and I have nothing left. Does anyone have any advice that could potentially turn this thing around for an approval? I've only tried the one local dealer, I've called Kia corporate every single day asking for an update, I've gone down to the dealership multiple times.
What else can I do? Am I screwed?

I have about 10 sonos products that i use throughout the house to listen to music and to be a surround sound for my TV. I have 4 single Ones in different rooms , one single Move, a stereo pair of ones with a sub mini, and a beam, sub gen1, and two ones as my surround for the tv. i use a boost and all the products are on sonosnet with the exception of the Move, which is on station. I stream music through Spotify, and watch various streaming services and youtubetv on the surround. i have a good mesh router system that is stable and reaches all areas of the house.
i have been generally happy, but have looking forward to a couple things, both about sonos and otherwise. on the sonos front, i was looking forward to a better and faster overall connection. a couple of my ones sometimes lagged. i was hoping that the new update would fix that. more on this later.
i have also been waiting for spotify lossless. i like spotify for it UI, for spotify connect, and for its general feel. but i have felt that the sound quality was maybe a little thin
when i saw that apple music was now available with lossless on sonos, i got the free trial and having been playing with it. here are some observations.
1) the sound quality is better when apple music is lossless versus spotify. the new app is very convenient to listen to the same material through both services back to back, and to my ears, it is pretty clear that apple music produces richer, fuller sound. specifically listen to the first minute of “So what” from Miles Davis’s “Kind of Blue”. on my stereo pairs, it is so much better on apple music. i have a bunch of other specific examples if anyone is interested. BUT,
2) Apple music is so much more glitchy than spotify. speakers dropping out, and staying out; having to reboot my phone to get the right speakers to be recognized. lossless coming and going. in that i am running apple music through the Sonos app, i am guessing this is a sonos issue.
3) i tried to see if there was a difference between Sonosnet, and straight wifi. in the case of apple music, it seemed that Sonosnet is more stable, but nothing can be counted on with it.
SO,, what i am hoping is that Sonos can address these technical issues with apple music, or that Spotify actual comes out with lossless soon..
any thoughts?

I have a 2007 Hyundai Tucson with over 200K miles. I haven't really driven it much in the last few years. However, I may need to use it a fair bit in the next 2-3 months s since my primary car is in the shop.
I had the timing belt/water pump replaced about 15K miles back. I do get regular oil changes done, and the brakes are fine. I do top off fluids but haven't done a flush of transmission fluid or the like for a while.
1) What basic maintenance should I get done at this point to reduce the risk of any problems until I get my main car back (or junk it)? I was thinking getting it tuned (the last one was long ago) and a general inspection of hoses, belts etc.
2) The steering wheel does feel a little stiff. But Power Steering levels are OK. Would getting it flushed help?
3) Given that it's such an old high mileage vehicle, would I have trouble getting an independent shop or even a dealer to look at it?

About two years ago my cat, Mango, had started vomiting about once every other month. I thought no big deal—I was always told that cats are prone to vomiting so I didn’t worry about it. Gradually the vomiting became more frequent, happening about once a month. Then it progressed into vomiting spurts, where it would occur multiple times in one session or multiple times in a couple of days, then return to once a month. At the start of this year, she began vomiting pretty regularly around once every 10 days.
This February I brought her to the vet. She had full bloodwork and urinalysis done and everything looked good. She was put on Hill’s I/D and I monitored her vomiting. At the advice of my vet, I fed the same diet to my other cat, for convenience. At this exact same time, my other cat, Ollie, began having diarrhea. It would be once every two weeks, but it would be a massive, amorphous blob of soft stool. His diarrhea slowly became more and more frequent.
From February to today, there has been a literal shit show of vomit and diarrhea, food trials, constant monitoring and more tests. As of May 2024, after stool testing and an ultrasound, Mango was diagnosed with IBD. She was put on Prednisolone for 3 weeks and her vomiting ceased. She is currently off of it.
As for Ollie, he has had a fecal test, urinalysis and bloodwork done (all came back good). He has gone through one round of Metronidazole, but that unfortunately didn’t help. Vet recommended Gabapentin for 2 weeks, but that also didn’t take. The vet suspects IBD now that other options have been ruled out.
They have tried different foods, both canned and dry and are currently being fed Instinct Rabbit (dry) for 80% of their diet, and Koha Rabbit (canned) with a pre+probiotic mixed in for the remainder. They are both not on any medications as I’m waiting for their new diet to settle before contacting my vet again.
As I previously mentioned, Ollie’s diarrhea has only seemed to get worse as we go through various treatments, but adding some pumpkin has been the only thing that semi-firms his stool. Mango has begun vomiting again (twice in 3 days so far).
All of this is to say, is it possible for two cats to develop IBD in the same household, around the same time? Could it have been caused by an event of some sort?
I guess I’m just trying to figure out why this is happening now as opposed to going into fix-it mode. I understand that Mango had been dealing with her vomiting for some time, but Ollie’s sudden onset of soft stool/diarrhea came as a shock. I’m no doubt feeling discouraged in finding a solution for both of them, also one that doesn’t break my already-beaten-down bank account.

It's DISGUSTING.
The sheer amount of information thrown at you is horrendous- the lectures are not well organized and the professor narates them oddly so you have to rewrite half your notes bc shell go over a topic for 30 minutes and then be like "but thats inconsequential bc no one believes that anymore."
You can't put the lectures on a higher speed bc she already talks so fast and her voice over add so much content to the slides that you'd be totally fucked if you did.
The readings have very little to do with the lecture material (like the points of convergence are there, but a 2 hour lecture will relate to the readings for maybe 12 minutes).
Your grade depends on 3 quizzes which I thought was awesome until she sent out a canvas memo letting us know the quizzes are 45 minutes long for 32 short answer questions HUH???
Bruh just don't do it. This experience would be totally different if course materials were better organized but as it stands it's just infuriating.
What makes it worse is the lectures are clearly recorded during SFUs covid online courses so it's like....this could have been optimized in the last 3 years but it just hasn't been. Like damn I know it's a 100 level course but cmon.

I tested retroacrh x32 and x64 ver 14-17 on android 10-13. and it has lag/shudder when being displayed to TV @ 4k30hz from either USB 3.1 or USB 3.0 C type port with DP alternate. Standalone emu apps do not have this issue and i tested 4 different phones, and tested 6 difference c-type to hdmi adapters and most will only display @ 4k30hz or 4k24hz. The only one that display output @ 4k60hz do not have this issue.
What i dont understand is why retroarch is affected and not other standalone emu apps with output is 4k30hz?

I'm not really super competitive or anything, but my current pad (old Razer one) is super worn out and I'd like to get a desk pad because I like the look and how it makes my keyboard sound. I'm not super picky but I'd like something decent quality and that has a smooth surface that won't irritate my skin, but not a super slow glide or anything. I can go up to 1000x500mm dimensions but would prefer to stick with 900x400 or smaller because I would need to buy a monitor arm to make room for the depth on a 1000x500 or 950x450. Considered LGG pads (Saturn and Venus), Aqua Control 2/+, Fnatic Focus 3, new Razer Strider since I heard they made it smoother (but haven't actually felt any in person so don't know how I feel about the texture). Also some things more focused on the look and feel like a desk pad from Drop or The Mousepad Company. AC2 seems like my best bet but people say the stitching is raised and it has a rough texture, and poor stopping power (like I said, pretty casual, my aim isn't steady enough to get away with that). AC+ is harder for me to get my hands on but might be better for me. Would love opinions/advice/personal experience if at all possible.

I used to work and live in Saudi arabia. It was my second home in the 16 of this past 19 years (I went back home for good 3 years ago). One of the best things I love about there is the food. Particularly broasted chicken and The authentic shawarma. Not sure if it is local to saudi or brought by Syrians to the kingdom.
I miss shawarma so bad. So if there are people who can share how to make Saudi Shawarma, that would be good.

This isnt the semi results I'm rooting for, but they would make for a wild finals! Anyone else making lists like this?

17 yr old, graduated school early, currently working with counselor for employment assistance which led to recommendation to LearnKey. No “IT” classes or clubs in school but always interested and enjoy tinkering and troubleshooting with both hardware and software. Have minimal web development knowledge, like surface level stuff( HTML, CSS, Java, C). Not necessarily interested in app or web development & have no qualms about learning about it, but would like to be involved behind the scenes, like maintaining server racks and networks with occasional end user troubleshooting.
Currently reading the A+ book from Mike Meyers and honestly a lot of the stuff clicks and makes sense, with the occasional thing I’ll have to look up; will prob read the book twice and mix in some YouTube video tutorials to fill in gaps (Messer, Network Chuck, Tech Gee, & even LTT coming in clutch) .
Don’t know if any of this makes sense or even the right place to ask, but figured I’d ask; how did you get to where you are now? (Most likely than not, help desk / very entry level, which is fine, absolutely do not mind; would like that as well, boots on ground and learn ropes before trying to run. However most “entry level” job postings I’ve seen ask for 2-4 years experience, among other things). If you could go back and do it differently, would you? and how? Any time or resources you spent learning something you wish you would’ve focused on something else?

Although, I am offered the opportunity to “upskill” down the road so that’s why I’m leaning on an entry level program (besides not wanting to overestimate myself). I’m also definitely not trying to take shortcuts or rush through any of the learning process (that’s kinda the part I enjoy most, well after actually applying what was learned), so don’t mind “taking” time to learn. The time will pass regardless.
I know it’s a long post, I’ll most likely cross post to reach different opinions and views. Basically I’m just asking for some guidance and experience from those that know more than I do. Not to familiar with the ITS certs, and could be wrong but from the research I’ve done, have been led to believe the CompTIA ones hold some more weight.
Long term goal would like to aim for, (junior) System / Network Admin / Specialist, LAN Admin / Specialist, IT Specialist or something along those lines. Would the courses, if any, qualify for any of these roles?

I received a notification that if I switch from branch to one for payment (which I wanted to do anyway) and made 400 by May 29th I’d receive an extra 100 dollars. I went back to make sure of the date and the notification had disappeared. This wouldn’t normally bother me but Spark hasn’t been paying out their own 3 dollars extra per delivery after 3pm incentives and given their track record I’m afraid that One won’t honor their 100 dollar bonus either.

So I'm a 32M and this relationship just started about 3 or 4 months ago. So it is pretty new. Everything has been really good so far. Except for one issue her mom.
At first her mom was the sweetest woman. Very welcoming, extremely hospitable, those things have never been an issue. However, lately she's gotten weird and is constantly making comments about how much time I spend there. How I should be going to church, and trying to start arguments over my music/political choices.
To expand on a few of those points we will start with how much time I spend there. I have been too my girlfriends house every weekend for the last two months. Sometimes when I come on Sundays I'll leave earlier like 8, but I get there at noon or earlier. To me this is plenty, I have work tomorrow and need some down time too. This relationship is still new and I don't feel like setting the precedent of codependency. Anyway she'll make comments about how I'm always leaving early not spending time there. I personally feel I've been generous with my time. I've seen them way more than my own family.
Number two is the church thing. She's very religious, I'm not at all. Consider myself atheist. She's made many comments about getting married in churches and me joining them on Sundays. I've been very respectful but it's just not something I'm into and I think she keeps bringing it up trying to break me down.
The last is the weird politics and music thing. I really don't have a strong political opinion. I often see both sides and like to joke on both. I hate joe Biden and Donald Trump. I feel like I joke about both evenly. She's a huge trump fan and constantly picks fights with me by making little comments about how trump is the best candidate and I shouldn't treat them as the same or something? Then also I love hip hop. I always have it's apart of my identity and I'm proud of it. She told my girlfriend that it's a shame I listen to hip hop because she thought I was a good person. Which was weird to me. Then since she found it she'll constantly bring up how violent hip hop is. She went to a country concert and the next day kept saying she saw someone got arrested and it "felt like a rap concert" I'm honestly getting offended because it seems obvious it lines up with when she found out.
Anyway I'm just saying all this because the relationship is new. I'm older I'm really not trying to waste my time. My girlfriend is great, but I'm really worried her mom is alittle overbearing for me. I've dated multiple people whose parents were much less involved. Parents always are it's just human nature. But some of this seems excessive to me. I want to make sure I don't waste both of our times and I'm seriously considering moving on while it's still early because this really bothers me.
