2024.05.20 08:31 Flashy-Square7381 Doing 2mad/omad while hitting the daily protein scope?

Hey Guys, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this:
Based on the facts that a 20-40g protein per meal is the MPS mostefficientrange, and the logic behind 2mad/omad diets being low insulin.
How can someone who wants to build and maintain muscle do 2mad/omad and still get their protein requirements (mine is 140g per day)? what is the right way to do so? And is it even possible?

2024.05.20 08:27 BasilLive9469 Please help me get rid of this

Is this molluscum? Hi , I’m currently 22 years old and I have been dealing with small worts for about 4 years now. It started off with one bigger wort on my right knee. I used to shave right over the wart and wound up spreading it all over my right leg. I would get them freezed off, then I thought I was in the clear to be able to shave my legs again. These bumps are so friggin tiny that you can only see it when the light is on them a certain way. I took cimetidine for 30 days twice and it worked but then stopped. Is there any other methods to rid of this for good. I’ve read that I have a form of HPV( not the genital ones lol). I’ve been taking vitamin c and zinc to try and boost my immune system. I’ve also been applying tretinoin 0.5 morning and night. Idk what else to do, can someone please help me. I don’t have the best of diets. I’m low in vitamin d and b12, and have high cholesterol. I’ve been taking prescription vitamins for that. Could that result in having a low immune system ? Maybe my stomache isn’t properly absorbing the vitamin c and zinc. I’m at a loss , someone please help a girl out !! (not all marks are active warts on leg, some is just scarring from freezing them off.)

2024.05.20 07:47 1MarieCurie1 Vacation after Fasting

Hello everyone
I have been fasting regularly from the start of this year. I’ve also been on a low carb diet (initially on keto then switched to low carb) . And cut out sugar.
I came on vacation and unfortunately Im unable to fast as much. I feel terribly sick and my stomach is unwell. I’ve been eating a lot of sugar and high carb foods. When I fast, it’s usually a cheat meal but now it’s so frequent. I’ve been throwing up a lot after my meals.
Why is this? Thank you!

2024.05.20 06:57 SophiaShay1 What was your worst health scare that caused you to seek more help for your fibromyalgia, ME/CFS or potential diagnoses?

What was your worse health care that caused you to seek more medical intervention & answers for fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, or potential diagnoses?
I had the worst experience of my life two nights ago. I woke up early Friday evening from a nap. I slept about 2 hours. I woke up feeling off. I was sweaty and could not breathe. I was dizzy, disoriented, and sweaty. We called 911. I thought I was having a heart attack or a stroke. I went to the emergency room. They did a CBC, EKG, and CT scan of my brain. I had low glucose, which was resolved by drinking a glass of cranberry juice. I hadn't eaten anything in over 10 hours. My doctor was incredible. After the test results came back, he said, "Could it be anxiety? Possibly. I don't know, I wasn't there." Initially, I thought it could have been anxiety, but the symptoms presented in such a way that it absolutely didn't seem that way. He prescribed anxiety medication. I'm grateful it has helped.
I've been simply existing since my diagnosis in December 2023. This event has forced me to face some hard truths. For as much as I thought I knew, I really knew nothing. There's so much I need to learn about my body. I have depression and anxiety that was caused by my ongoing health problems and ultimately fibromyalgia. I stopped taking Zoloft for depression & Klonopin for anxiety to start Cymbalta. I've tried Savella and Cymbalta twice. Cymbalta helped with my fatigue, pain, sleep, and mood. Ultimately, I had to stop all medications due to severe side effects.
I'm post-menopausal and never wanted to do hormone replacement therapy. From what I've read, it's now something I have to talk to my doctor about. I've gained about 70 pounds in the last 4 years. I have to talk to my doctor and lose weight. My symptoms are dizziness, disorientation, always hot and sweaty, chronic and debilitating fatigue, widespread pain, brain fog, depression, anxiety & insomnia/sleep disturbances
I'd love to hear your stories. Did you have a life changing medical scare that propelled you to get more answers and work harder? Have you found more effective medications that manage your symptoms and fibromyalgia? What about vitamins, supplements, and non-medical interventions? Changes to your diet and exercise? Have you taken weight loss medications? Have they helped with both weight loss and fibromyalgia?

2024.05.20 06:54 zebra_zombie Doctor talking about feeding tube/gastric stimulator

I feel worried and alone and judged, my doctors are talking about me getting a jtube, NJ, or gastric stimulator and I don't know if it's the right step.
My gi is currently discussing with a "well known" motility specialist to make the choice.
I can't keep my blood sugar up anymore, I am not absorbing meds that I need for other life threatening conditions, and I am in pain and bloated 24/7. I've tried diets and it made it worse. I can still eat, but I just am not well.
And idk if my sugar readings are really low or not, the ER is confirm my CGM is accurate with blood and it keeps reading under 65. And I do what I can to keep it up but the seizures when it drops get exhausting and I assume can't be great for me, I'm not very independent and I'd like a good QOL.
Idk I just feel like this is to much and I feel like even people in support groups judge every word I say. I feel alone af

2024.05.20 06:47 LetBeFriendsHere 10 Benefits of Walking for 10 Minutes After Every Meal

Walking is one of the simplest and most accessible forms of exercise. It requires no special equipment, can be done almost anywhere, and offers a myriad of health benefits. One particularly effective habit is taking a 10-minute walk after every meal. Here’s a detailed look at the benefits of incorporating this practice into your daily routine:

1. Improves Digestion

Walking after meals aids the digestive process. It helps food move through the stomach and intestines more efficiently, reducing the chances of indigestion and bloating. The gentle movement encourages the digestive organs to function optimally.

2. Regulates Blood Sugar Levels

Post-meal walks can significantly improve blood sugar control. This is especially beneficial for individuals with type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance. Walking helps the muscles use some of the excess glucose in your bloodstream, thereby lowering blood sugar levels.

3. Enhances Metabolism

Regular post-meal walks can boost your metabolism. Increased physical activity promotes a higher metabolic rate, helping your body burn more calories even when at rest. This can be particularly advantageous for weight management and fat loss.

4. Reduces Stress and Enhances Mood

Walking, even for a short duration, stimulates the release of endorphins and serotonin, hormones that help alleviate stress and improve mood. This can lead to a greater sense of well-being and reduced anxiety levels.

5. Supports Heart Health

Engaging in physical activity after meals can improve cardiovascular health. Walking helps lower blood pressure, improve circulation, and reduce the risk of heart disease. Consistent post-meal walking can contribute to maintaining a healthy heart.

6. Promotes Weight Loss

Walking after meals can aid in weight loss by increasing the number of calories burned. It helps to offset the calorie intake from your meal, contributing to a caloric deficit if combined with a balanced diet. Over time, this can lead to gradual weight loss.

7. Enhances Energy Levels

Contrary to the common belief that rest is required after eating to conserve energy, walking can actually boost your energy levels. Physical activity increases blood flow and oxygen supply to your muscles and organs, leaving you feeling more energetic and less lethargic.

8. Improves Sleep Quality

Regular physical activity, such as walking after meals, can enhance sleep quality. It helps regulate your body’s circadian rhythm and promotes deeper, more restful sleep. Better sleep contributes to overall health and well-being.

9. Strengthens Muscles and Joints

Walking is a low-impact exercise that can help strengthen muscles and joints. It improves joint mobility and flexibility, reducing the risk of conditions such as arthritis. Stronger muscles and joints contribute to better overall physical function and longevity.

10. Fosters Consistent Exercise Habits

Incorporating short walks after every meal can help establish a consistent exercise routine. It’s easier to stick to shorter, manageable exercise sessions spread throughout the day rather than committing to longer workouts. This consistency is key to reaping long-term health benefits.

Tips for Effective Post-Meal Walks

To maximize the benefits of your post-meal walks, consider the following tips:
· Choose a Comfortable Pace: Walk at a pace that feels comfortable yet brisk enough to increase your heart rate slightly.
· Wear Comfortable Shoes: Ensure you have supportive and comfortable footwear to prevent any strain or injury.
· Stay Hydrated: Drink water before and after your walk to stay hydrated.
· Be Consistent: Aim to walk after every meal to create a habit and enjoy the cumulative benefits.
· Enjoy the Scenery: Walking outside can provide additional mental health benefits, such as improved mood and relaxation from being in nature.
Conclusion
Walking for 10 minutes after every meal is a simple yet highly effective way to improve your overall health. From aiding digestion and regulating blood sugar levels to enhancing mood and supporting heart health, this easy habit offers a wide range of benefits. By making post-meal walks a regular part of your routine, you can enjoy a healthier, more active lifestyle.

2024.05.20 06:35 Awkward-1 Very healthy, yet strange 3a

I’m F, under 50, eat very low sodium, exercise daily, BP is typically 110/60, normal weight, I don’t take any medication/drugs, eat a low protein diet, rarely drink, yet I’ve had two blood tests that show I’m in 3a. My doctor says “don’t worry about it” and hasn’t ordered any other testing other than the eGFR and creatinine tests.
Should I be worried, should I ask for any other tests? I really have no idea what could be causing this.
I appreciate any support, stories, or advice!

2024.05.20 06:27 cpt_tusktooth SCD is amazing for Hunger.

Started doing Slow Carb Diet and my portions are way too large.
I have 50 pounds to lose but im worried that my portions are too large.
I'm in love with the bean. Before this, i would just eat rice with all my meals (I'm asian)
but with rice you eat, get full and then an 1-3 hours you get hungry again. With the Bean though, ill eat prolly the same amount of food i normally do but i'm full way way way longer. I wake up and i'm not hungry! Its amazing, it also means my blood sugar is low.
Not being hungry all the time is a huge life changer. I dont get cravings or want to get something unhealthy because i'm not HUNGRY.
I would always wake up hungry when i ate rice and that would make me search out foods.
I'm wondering though, since my portion size is pretty large ( see image ) should i work on transitioning to intermittent fasting?
Beans, Veggies, chicken. Eating as much as i want and then fasting for like 16 or 20 hours a day.
it seems doable because i'm not hungry when i eat beans.
I also put some sauce on the chicken, which i'm sure has sugar in it.
Any advice on this?
Heres this meal i made the other day and it was soo filling and also pretty delicious.
just beans chicken and veggies. I wasnt hungry again for another 8 - 15 hours.
I didnt track it so i'm not super sure.

2024.05.20 06:25 iamaliceanne Pancreatitis

Hey! I’m 2 years post op and things have been going super smoothly.
Until about 6 weeks ago. I’m pretty sure I developed pancreatitis shortly after I found out I was pregnant. Nausea only after I ate. Significant discomfort when I ate. I miscarried at 6 weeks. And landed in the hospital with acute pancreatitis shortly after that. The thing is they can’t (so far) find a solid cause. They had me on fast for 24 hours then let me have only water for 24 hours and then start on liquids. They told me they ruled my gallbladder as the source.
I was discharged after 4 days. After I went home I stuck to the low fat diet but began having flair ups again. 😭
Has anyone had pancreas issues post op? How do you deal?

2024.05.20 06:12 audrey_korne Frustrated with health side of recovery not resolving itself

I've been in recovery since February. I've been disordered my whole life, but it only descended into truly dangerous, life-threatening anorexia over the course of the fall of 2023.
I haven't had a period since November. I'm still fatigued. I still have bouts of extreme hunger. This week, I've noticed lanugo all over my stomach, face, and thighs... even though it's burning hot outside. I'm still cold all the time--maybe a little less so now. I have absolutely no sex drive, which is becoming extremely frustrating in my relationship. I still feel empty and disengaged with the world with no energy to maintain my relationships. I'm afraid of developing osteoporosis, infertility, etc. etc. etc... bc I'm not recovering "enough."
Some things are better. My GI issues have resolved. I'm less obsessed with food, but I'm afraid that I'm becoming disengaged from it in the same way I did before heavily restricting. Some days, I feel like I'm in the best physical shape of my life--both visually and energy-wise. Others, I feel like I did in the worst parts of my disorder.
I have no way of continuing my therapy I receive during the college semester when I'm at home. For personal logistical reasons, it is simply not possible for me... not even virtually due to insurance issues.
I'm trying my best here. I eat 3 meals a day. I eat a lot of healthy fats--PB, avocado, oil, butter--and incorporate carbs and protein into every meal, too. I have snacks as needed. I eat--often overeat just to be sure--until I am full, but I'm always hungry 2 hours later.
For instance, I ate a huge "jazzed up" burger, 2 large diet pepsis (low cal but they usually help me feel full when I'm ravenous), a whole order of big truffle fries, half a side order of glazed brussels sprouts, and half a side order of a beet salad for lunch yesterday. I was hungry again not long after along with feeling physically horrendous from eating such greasy food (I don't normally eat fried food out of personal preference). It was delicious tho so I wasn't guilty at all! For breakfast, iirc I had cottage cheese, a rice cake (i genuinely like them), a hard boiled egg, SF lemon pudding, some fresh fruits and vegetables, and probably 2-4 TBSP of standard creamy jif PB.
Whenever I build up the courage to eat this much, I am still disappointed in myself when I'm already hungry and having to plan another meal a mere hour later. I have to send pics of my food to my friends to ask if I'm eating a normal amount of food. I have to ask my friends if I'm exercising a weird amount. I feel like I'm not recovering enough by not ditching the ED/diet foods, but I genuinely enjoy them and can eat a LOT of them without feeling guilt. I also just do not see the nutritional value in eating a lot of processed/greasy food or sugar, and I don't have access to good restaurants or cooking so I need simple food like rice cakes and eggs.
I'm not really gaining weight. In fact, I think I've lost weight again unintentionally. I was never THAT underweight, but honestly I don't really know that bc I haven't weighed myself in years. I almost died from an illness I got in Jan/Feb of this year, so that's why I went into recovery. Now, my friends and family are saying I look "severely underweight." I don't see this at all. I think I look healthy, honestly. I don't look like I did when I was actively dying.
I exercise frequently, but I listen to my body and have been far more lax as of late. This actually helped my gym progress imo, but I fear it's still getting in the way of recovery. I don't want to stop being active, I love it, and it is the only thing I can do during the summer that passes the time other than doomscrolling (I live rurally and my internships are remote). Again, some days I feel incredible! But the health issues persist...
I want to be healthy. Am I recovering wrong?

Sudden lameness in one leg in fetlock area. Vet and Farrier already seen. Pictures enclosed.
Hello all. My 18 year old quarter horse was fine about two days ago in the early morning. When I had gotten home, he couldn't walk on his back right foot. I dont think he was running around and there are no visible injuries to him or my fencing. The horse has improved some since, and in the meanwhile we've seen a vet who tried to dig on the hoof for an abcess, couldn't find one, and then took xrays that were negative for foot findings. The farrier came the next day and he also thinks it's low on the horses leg. We were able to find some swelling in the picture enclosed where my hand is. Farrier thinks it's a tendon or an abscess approaching. Does anyone else have any experience with this? If so, what's your treatment? -subtle swelling in fetlock. As seen in picture -horse wants to trot everywhere. Walking produce lameness that is very prominent in right back leg. Trotting horse is lame too but in less visible pain - Doesn't want to put the heel of his foot down at all, even while at rest. -still moving, eating, and farting, though has quite visible limp when he walks.
He's on some Bute though it doesn't make his limp any less. I had him on some stall rest but have let him out in the evenings for a bit of walking. No changes in diet otherwise. Thank you all for your help. Appreciate any thoughts on this.

2024.05.20 04:51 Western_Command_385 Geriatricand pregnant 4 months pp

Tw: Pregnancy and talk of termination
Has anyone had back to back pregnancies in their 40s?
I’m only 4 months PP and got pregnant having sex one time during my period while nursing FT. I know, I’m an idiot, but I thought the chances were low given my age and ya know...period. I’ve used the rhythm method the majority of my life but apparently by body is just shooting out eggs now. I assume I ovulated early.
I don’t know if this pregnancy is viable yet, as I’m only 5 weeks as of Monday (5/19), but I’m scared. I had gestational diabetes and anemia this past pregnancy. Thankfully, I’ve had iron infusions so I should be good on that, and I was diet controlled with GD, so it never got out of control. I’m currently eating as if I’m a diabetic anyhow, as my sugars have been weird after birth and I’m somewhat insulin resistant (pre-pre diabetes). I mention these things because I hope to have a handle on it.
So my question is, has anyone been through this as an older mom? I know I have options, but I’ve terminated in the past when I was going through a separation. It was the right decision at the time, but it weighed on me heavily, and I’m not sure I could do it again. I’d appreciate if this thread doesn’t turn into a discussion on pro vs. anti, but this is the internet, so I just ask y'all be nice. Termination is not off the table if it's too risky, but I haven't met with my OBGYN yet.
The main thing I’m asking is if anyone else has been through this. I’m worried about my health and the potential babies getting pregnant back to back in my early 40s. I am embarrassed I am pregnant again so soon. Tell me something hopeful, give me a reality check, idk. My brain is all over the place right now. TIA

2024.05.20 04:42 mightylola13 Lab interpretation

34F, 135lbs, no medications- just daily prenatal. Very active, no dietary restrictions but eat an overall healthy diet IMO. I have been going to the same primary care doctor for years and every year he says my labs are fine. I have health anxiety and don't think that that they are fine... First off, my BUN has always been 20-25, my serum creatinine about 0.85 and my eGFR 93-95. Serum albumin, anywhere 4.1-4.8 throughout the.last 10 years. At times, my serum sodium has been 132 or 133 throughout the years, otherwise about 137-138. All other electrolytes within the normal ranges. He has never said a thing about my BUN...he has said I may be overhydrating to explain the lower sodium levels, and yes, I drink a lot of water and have for years. For the record, I have been an athlete my entire life, runner cyclist and lift weights and would hardly ever supplement with sodium and I am a heavy sweater. I worry that my BUN is always slightly elevated, and my sodium sometimes lower. Seems weird and like a kidney problem, even though my eGFR is reasonable.
Next, cholesterol. I have always had pretty low triglycerides- anywhere from 40-65, my HDL has always been in the 90s. Now, my LDL has been increasing and last value was 112. My last total cholesterol was 220 with my HDL being 93. He said he wasn't concerned because my ratio is "very good". Is this a red flag?
Next, blood glucose. My last HgA1c was 5.2 and he only does random blood sugars and mine was 106. Should I be concerned?
My BP is always low at 110s/60s and my HR is low in the 50s-low 60s.
Thanks!

2024.05.20 04:11 No-Nothing-9073 Relief for debilitating seasonal allergies

TL;DR— Nasacort and Singulair have changed my life for the better. Thanks to this thread for those recommendations!
I just wanted to share here (since this thread has been so helpful to me) that I’ve recently found significant relief in starting two new meds— one being Nasacort, a simple OTC spray, the other being Singulair (Montelukast), a Rx drug that I was hesitant to take for years due to its Black label warning from the FDA, but which has helped me tremendously.
Y’all shared in these threads that these medications had changed your life, and I’m so grateful because that gave me the push I needed to try them. I’ve always had pretty bad seasonal allergies, but after having COVID in 2022, my allergies went completely crazy. April through September were a nightmare. I could barely function, had terrible brain fog, debilitating symptoms, had trouble working, couldn’t go outside, began experiencing allergic asthma… the whole works. Hay fever all day every day. I had sinus infections that led to terrible bronchitis. I was living on multiple Zyrtec a day (which honestly didn’t touch my symptoms), Sudafed during the day, Benadryl at night, Flonase, Ipaproprium Bromide spray and a host of supplements (Quercetin, vitamin c, stinging nettle, et.al) I tried EVERYTHING. (And I mean everything— diet, breath work, acupuncture, Ayurvedic treatments, the lot.) The majority of “alternative” / natural remedies have helped a little, but they’re more an extra support for my symptoms… they really didn’t do a whole lot for me.
Someone on here recommended Nasacort. And while it took a few weeks to kick in, when it did, a TOTAL game changer. I am free of chronic postnasal drip for maybe the first time in years?! I cannot believe it. If you haven’t tried Nasacort yet, I highly recommend it. No negative side effects. Safe for longer term use.
Upon searching these threads for how to deal with allergic asthma, I read more about Singulair. I’d always been nervous to take it because it can have bad psychological side effects, but it was nearly my last resort. My allergist told me that some folks have bad side effects, but the majority of people tolerate it well. I’m thrilled to say it’s working SO well for me. (Full disclosure: I also take Wellbutrin, an antidepressant). Singulair makes you a little sleepy, so it’s recommended you take it at night. It can give you very vivid dreams, and in my case, that’s been true. Other than that, zero side effects. My dreams are weirdly way more fun now, lol. Singulair has eliminated my allergic asthma— I can now exercise outside now during allergy season and not have to spend the next day in bed. Hallelujah!
Anyways, as a lifelong allergy sufferer / long Covid allergy mystery, I just wanted to share that these meds have helped me tremendously and I hope everyone can get what they need this allergy season!
Extra disclosure— I am very early in this journey, so no way to tell yet how much it’s helping, but I’m doing allergy immunotherapy with my allergist. I started with shots, but started reacting with major swelling at a very low dosage of the subcutaneous injection, so he has switched me to SLIT— sublingual drops. They’re European dosing guidelines, so very high quality and a high concentration serum. I’m only one month in, so I can’t say decisively how much they’re helping yet because it’s a 5 year process, but I’m hopeful my full court press against my seasonal allergies does the trick.

2024.05.20 04:09 j_blackrose BP meds and weight gain. How to talk to doc about it and get them to listen.

Short version anxiety induced hypertension. Especially white coat variety. In 2020 gained 30lbs on Metropolol on absolutely the lowest dose available and had bad orthostatic hypotension. The weight came on suddenly. Stop meds because of the uncontrollable weight gain. 2024 having massive medical issues that required surgery BP spikes again and I elect to go on meds pre surgery. Within a week on Lisinopril I put on 10lbs OH starts again. Within four months I've gain 20lbs.
I tried to talk to my PCM pointing out the sudden weight gain after being weight stable for so long. Also the OH returning. He started me on 30mg. He only was willing to drop me to 20mg. My BP is normal even a bit on the low side. My "high BPs" before meds were 150/90 range depending on how worked up I was during an appointment. Depending If I was having an active anxiety attact or not.
My PCM is not inclined to allow me to stop. He mentioned he also doesn't know what else I can try since I'm having the same issues on both Beta blockers and ACE inhibitors. Any advice on how to get a doctor to listen or any options that would be better in terms of weight gain and OH side effects.
My diet is good. My exercise seems not to be a factor. Since I was highly active in 2020 and now since I'm recovering from surgery not active for obviously reasons. The only consistent contributing factor is the meds.

2024.05.20 04:03 Dopamine_ADD_ict The Grass Fed Hoax

A common thing you hear in diet circles is: "Nutrition research was done with Grain fed beef/butter, but those results don't apply to Grass fed, which is super healthy!"

2024.05.20 03:41 Blonde_Curvy_2023 [Discussion] Got off track from my diet after having surgery and needing to eat a lot with medication. Words of encouragement to help me get back on track please?

Hi, I hope you’re having a good weekend! I had been in a really good groove with my low-carb diet for months. I had to have dental surgery several days ago and I’ve been turning to comfort foods off my diet for, well, the comfort to help me get through the pain and to keep my stomach full enough to take my pain medication (advil) without getting a stomach ache.
Now I’m starting to feel like I’m addicted to sugar again and I just feel sad, but I’m wanting to get back to healthier eating how I was before that made me feel better.
Just hoping for some words of encouragement please, or maybe if you want to share your story of a time you got off track / faced a health setback but got back to healthy eating, working toward your goals, etc? Thank you so much 🙏

2024.05.20 03:37 itsdally Need new restaurants to try

Just had my gallbladder taken out after 6+ years of food fear pain and a low fat diet! Am finally living the life of a normal person able to go out and eat and Richmond has so many great things to offer I feel like I’ve done nothing but miss out. Husband and I are kind of creating a bucket list of spots to go and try and I wanted to see what kind of places you guys would want on a list like this so we can add it!
