2024.01.24 23:41 ObsessiveImpulse Ballot Banter #45 Recap

Dick Gumshoe VS Inspector Zenigata (Ace Attorney VS Lupin III)- Sam likes Lupin III (though he didn’t like it growing up), but doesn’t know much about Ace Attorney. Ben thinks it could be fun, and Chad says they seem like similar characters. Sam doubts that Ace Attorney characters have much in terms of feats, but Ben wouldn’t be surprised if they do. Ben suggests Lupin VS Detective Conan, which Chad and Sam like.
Gorr the God Butcher VS Merged Zamasu (Marvel VS Dragon Ball)- Sam thinks it makes sense. He’s seen a lot of Gorr requests lately, which surprises him because Gorr was only in the comics for one arc to his knowledge. Sam notes that Gorr’s arc is where a lot of Thor’s best feats come from. Chad says the MU could be “epic”, and Sam says it’s “kinda like ‘Evil Guy Thor VS Vegeta’”.
Jaime Lannister VS Askeladd (Game of Thrones VS Vinland Saga)- They’re not familiar with Vinland Saga. It’s pointed out that Jaime might be hard to analyze, since he doesn’t have many feats from before he lost his hand, but if they focus on the stuff from after he lost it, then he wouldn’t be getting analyzed at his peak. Chad argues in response that we see him fight a few times beforehand, and his reputation as an amazing fighter means he could get some good scaling.
Speed Racer VS Vert Wheeler (Speed Racer VS Hot Wheels Battle Force 5)- They’ve never heard of HWBF5. Sam says they did Death Race because they “want so badly to have this kind of shit”, so he's on board with the premise. Ben thinks Speed Racer would be super fun to have on DB.
Spike VS Revy (Cowboy Bebop VS Black Lagoon)- It gets glossed over because it’s been talked about a bunch. Sam reiterates that it’s planned as a Cast debate, and calls it a banger. Chad says “it’s gonna happen at some point”.
Jaden Yuki VS Ben Tennyson (Yu-Gi-Oh VS Ben 10)- Sam thinks it’s cool and fun. Chad says that the first Yu-Gi-Oh episode should be Ash VS Yugi. Sam responds that he’s not sure it should be Ash VS Yugi specifically, but he definitely thinks Yugi should appear before Jaden.
Pegasus Seiya VS Sailor Moon- Sam and Ben call it a classic anime MU. Chad really wants to use Usagi and thinks it’s a good MU.
Spider-Punk VS Chai (Marvel VS Hi-Fi Rush)- Neither Ben or Chad have played Hi-Fi Rush, but they both think it looks good. They don’t really express opinions on the MU.
Lord Drakkon VS Ohma Zi-O (Power Rangers VS Kamen Rider)- Sam calls it “the ultimate end-all of the Super Sentai style”. They all think it looks cool.
King VS Incineroar (Tekken VS Pokemon)- Ben thinks it’s funny. Chad really likes the MU, noting they’ve never done a proper wrestling episode. It's noted that King is just a man in a jaguar mask, but Ben and Erin point out that Tekken scaling should still put him on a similar level to Incineroar.
Richard Nixon VS Doctor Manhattan (Monument Mythos VS Watchmen)- Chad calls it “ridiculous”, and notes that the average person would probably be confused by the premise. Sam notes that it’s popular among the community, and Chad says Liam really likes it.
Nox VS Strange Supreme (Wakfu VS Marvel’s What If)- They don’t know the characters well enough to have an opinion.
Sarah Kerrigan VS Illidan Stormrage (StarCraft VS Warcraft)- Chad doesn’t know how powerful Kerrigan is, but assumes Illidan stomps. Sam agrees that Illidan wins, but says Kerrigan is pretty powerful, especially when taking game mechanics into account, so it might be decently close. Ben asks if Kerrigan has ever destroyed a planet, and Sam answers no, but the Zerg do consume (not necessarily destroy) planets. Sam thinks the MU would be cool, and says if anyone from StarCraft appears in DB, it should be Kerrigan.
Boros VS Battle Beast (One-Punch Man VS Invincible)- They’ve surprisingly never seen it before. They all think it’s a cool MU, and Sam likes One-Punch Man VS Invincible as a franchise pairing.
Evangelion Unit-01 VS Wing Gundam Zero- Chad wants to use Eva-01 a lot. The OP worded the MU as “Shinji Ikari VS Heero Yuy”, leading to jokes about the possibility of it just being a fight between the pilots (they all agree Heero would stomp in that case). Sam finds Evangelion somewhat weird to use due to the Biblical themes near the end. He also notes the height difference between the two, which Chad says is a recurring problem with robot MUs. Regardless, Sam says it’s a cool MU, which he also thinks could make a good DBX.
Scott Pilgrim VS Seven (Scott Pilgrim VS Scissor Seven)- They’ve never heard of Scissor Seven, but Erin Googles it and thinks it sounds interesting. Sam says they’ll look into it.
(Robotboy VS Jenny Wakeman and Emmet VS Jesse both get glossed over because they’ve been discussed before).
Harry Potter VS Percy Jackson- Chad says it’s been “requested a million times”. Erin has been enjoying the Percy Jackson Disney+ series. Sam says he and Liam both prefer Percy VS Zagreus (Ben also thinks that MU's fun).
Arceus VS Aslan (Pokemon VS The Chronicles of Narnia)- Chad loves it. Sam says it makes sense, and he "doesn’t like it and also likes it”. Chad thinks it’d be funny to analyze Aslan. Sam dislikes Arceus, finding their introduction to be “when Pokemon jumped the shark in a lot of ways”. Ben finds Aslan weird, because he's canonically the Judeo-Christian God, but “when he fights, he’s just a lion”.
(Fawful VS Spamton G. Spamton also gets glossed over because it was just talked about last episode).
Xemnas VS Pain (Kingdom Hearts VS Naruto)- Sam thinks it makes “a fair bit of sense”. He says it’s pretty cool (which Chad agrees with), and he never would have thought of Kingdom Hearts VS Naruto. Sam calls it underrated upon seeing that it only got 20 hearts.
Ash Ketchum VS Yugi Muto (Pokemon VS Yu-Gi-Oh)- “If it’s Pikachu VS Blue Eyes White Dragon, I don’t know how it goes”. Chad and Sam both say it’s fun and would be really cool.
Rin Okumura VS Moka Akashiya (Blue Exorcist VS Rosario + Vampire)- They’re not familiar with either series (though Ben has heard Blue Exorcist is really good). They think it sounds cool from the connections though.
Alucard VS D (Castlevania VS Vampire Hunter D)- It’s cool and they like it. They say that “D is very stupid”, and has a lot of insane feats that probably weren’t meant to be analyzed in a battleboarding context.
Lucina VS Clairen (Fire Emblem VS Rivals of Aether)- They don’t know Clairen, but say it seems pretty cool from the connections. Sam says Lucina is the biggest request for a Fire Emblem character.
First matchup for the next Ballot Banter is Captain Marvelous VS Kamen Rider Decade (Super Sentai VS Kamen Rider).

Why the hell are they not organized by color like they usually are!?

2023.04.16 00:39 Random856 Emblem Kit Design References

The kit design of the Emblems in Engage is very cool, full of neat references to gameplay mechanics and character traits present in their original games. I thought it’d be nice to catalogue every Emblem’s references and callbacks in one place. I originally wanted to go over them in unnecessary detail but that ended up way too long so I'll try to give the tl;dr.

2023.02.22 07:03 Herobrine7293 Necronaut Chapter 14 - Let Loose

Ok so I may have accidentally wrote 1000 words more than my average.

Let Loose

The cell was cold. Raskt rubbed his arms to try and warm himself up, the feeling of his hands on his own skin feeling strange to him. He felt hungry, too. And tired. His muscles hurt. His back ached from that earlier fall, and it took effort to even stay sitting up properly. He had resorted to sitting up against the wall, staring silently at the bars of his holding cell. After a while, he’d stopped seeing them properly, becoming grey blurs that outlined the wall of the Sanctuary walls that lay outside his prison. He didn’t know what Lucina was doing, but she hadn’t spoken to him since he’d told her to give up on hope of escape. How long ago that had been, Raskt had no idea.
Footsteps echoed throughout the empty hall to the left, Raskt immediately being able to tell that there were two people walking. However, only one person appeared, Uzija. Raskt was confused. He was sure he’d heard two pairs of footsteps. Where was Kiga?
He sighed to himself, deciding that it didn’t matter, and assuming that she was here to take the two assassins to their actual cells, instead of leaving them to rot in these holding ones. But the Illusionist stopped in front of the two cells, observing the prisoners for a moment before speaking.
“I have questions for the two of you. You will answer them. Truthfully. Understand?”
Neither of the assassins said a word. He didn’t know what Lucina was thinking, but Raskt was still hung up on those footsteps. He was sure that there were two pairs. Had his ears been deceiving him? It was possible, Raskt guessed. His eyes wandered to Uzija, staring at her. Why wasn’t Kiga there? Straining his eyes, he stared everywhere, trying to find the slightest hint that something wasn’t the way it really was. His vision passed over the walls, and he stopped.
There it was. An ever-so-slight discolouration in the wall. That was it. He knew it. Uzija must be using some kind of illusion to hide Kiga, and that was why Raskt couldn’t see him. Kiga would have been able to read his mind and know if he was lying, but now that Raskt knew that he was there, the detective’s power would be useless. His head turned to face Lucina’s cell, but he wouldn’t be able to tell her. That would just make the detectives’ questioning harsher in order to get answers out of them. This was the better way of doing things, he decided.
“Syn. Answer me.” Uzija’s voice made Raskt turn his attention back to her, his face expressionless. He tilted his head slightly, not having heard her question.
The detective sighed. “Fine. I’ll repeat it for you. How many people have you killed and assassinated?”
Raskt’s head stayed tilted. “I don’t remember.”
She raised an eyebrow at that, but didn’t follow up on it, proceeding with her next question to them both.
“Who have you accepted assassination requests from? I want everyone, the whole list.”
While Lucina answered with names very similar to what he would have said, Raskt took to staring directly at where he knew Kiga was hiding, his dark blue eyes unwavering from that spot. Once he felt he’d done enough, his attention returned to Uzija. Lucina, unsurprisingly, had only mentioned people that were either already dead or in prison. Not that it would help her, since Kiga was reading her mind the whole time.
When she was done, and Uzija turned her question to Raskt, the assassin looked at her and said, “I don’t remember.”
Silence filled the room for a moment, the detective staring at Raskt while he stared back, his face just as expressionless as before. Eventually, Uzija sighed, and spoke again. “How long ago was your last assassination?”
Both assassins were unresponsive for a few seconds, until Lucina muttered, “I don’t remember.”
Before Uzija could say anything, Raskt repeated, “I don’t remember.” Lucina giggled, and a small look of irritation passed over the detective’s face, although it quickly returned to impassiveness.
“Who did you last kill?”
“I don’t remember,” the two assassins chorused in synchronicity.
Uzija muttered something under her breath that Raskt didn’t catch, and she gave a sigh. “Well, this is what I expected. I suppose there wouldn’t be any harm in skipping all the boring questions and asking the one I actually care about.”
“And that would be?” Lucina asked with a mocking raise of her eyebrow.
“What do you know of Abitare Cattiva?”
Before Lucina could say anything, Raskt sat forward. “I’ll indulge you this time, detective.”
Uzija looked at him and inclined her head. “Not going to just claim that you don’t remember, hmm? Well, I’m listening.”
“Anything that could lead you to him, nobody knows. The way he structures his criminal empire, how he controls crime in Roarhaven, it’s impossible to tell. The only person I’ve ever seen with him is his teleporter, but her identity is always hidden. I’d tell you what he looks like, but the man is so pale that I doubt he’s been outside in years. His discipline is unknown too. After all, if one knows your power, one knows your weakness.”
“His overall goal is probably to control Roarhaven through crime,” Raskt went on, talking as if he was musing to himself. “But that’s obvious.”
Uzija paused for a moment. “So, in other words, you don’t know and can only tell me things that I already knew in the first place.”
Raskt’s face was as blank as ever. “Precisely.”
“Well, I suppose I should tell you that we have Sensitives coming within the hour to extract any other information from your minds that we need. Have a nice day.” She smiled, and the detective spun on her heel, promptly leaving the room. Raskt watched as the illusion that was blocking Kiga from view moved as well, disappearing with Uzija.
“That was fun,” Raskt heard Lucina say. He didn’t reply, instead leaning back against the wall. It was somewhat entertaining, he had to agree, but that didn’t change his stance on anything. The two of them were still trapped in these cells, and having to deal with Sensitives was not his cup of tea.
That’s when Abitare Cattiva appeared in the room.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Bastard. He figured it out immediately,” Kiga said to Uzija, his voice sounding agitated.
The other detective cocked her head. “Raskt knew? How? I thought my illusion was perfect.”
He shook his head. “He must have seen the slight shimmering in the air that happens with all your illusions. It’s not easy to see, yeah, but I know for a fact that I didn’t make any sound, and even if I did, I doubt he would have heard it. It’s hard to see the shimmering, but it’s not impossible.”
She stayed silent for a moment as the two walked. “No. He wouldn’t have looked for you without some kind of signal. Maybe it was just because I was alone that time, and we’re usually together. But that doesn’t really matter now. What did you get from Lucina?”
“A few names, really. Some people we should probably investigate… Although I don’t know if they’re in Ireland’s sphere, but still, it's worth having a look, don’t you think?”
Uzija nodded, and the two detectives headed to the archive rooms.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Cleavers moved immediately, but Abitare’s dark eyes suddenly flashed a brilliant blue colour for a moment, and Raskt felt the magic in the area dissipate into nothing. The teleporter was upon the Cleavers instantly, a knife in her hand easily stabbing through the Cleaver’s armoured clothes. Raskt sat forward on his bed. How did that work? The clothes of Cleavers were made to be armoured perfectly. They had been designed by Ghastly Bespoke quite some time ago, and that man was not one to make mistakes with his clothing. But no, the teleporter’s small knife stabbed through the first one easily. She grabbed the fallen Cleaver’s scythe and twirled, lobbing the other Cleaver’s head off in one, swift movement.
“Ah, Syn and Clair. How good it is to see you again,” Abitare rasped, his voice as deep as ever. “I got wind of your…. incarceration. How foolish of you two to be caught and locked up like animals.”
Lucina went to speak, but Abitare cut her off before a word could escape her mouth. “But fret not, assassins. I am here to free you.” Cattiva stepped forward, and casually opened the cells like they were nothing.
“That eye flash was your discipline, I presume?” Raskt asked, gratefully stepping out of the cell.
Abitare gave a brief nod and inclined his head to the teleporter. She tossed Raskt the amulet for his necronaut suit. “We have already retrieved your knives and guns,” Cattiva said, looking down at Raskt as the assassin turned the amulet over in his hand. Then, his head snapped towards Lucina. “Is something the matter, Miss Clair?”
Lucina was sweating, and her claw-like fingers seemed to be moving closer to her skin. “Wh-what time is it?” she asked breathlessly.
Abitare used a pale hand to pull up his sleeve, revealing a sleek black watch. “5:17am. Why do you ask?”
The female assassin’s eyes widened. “I-I… I can’t… stop myself…” Her hands clawed at her skin, and it started to tear and rip, revealing chalk-white skin beneath it. The fluid motion that the transformation should have had didn’t occur, Lucina doing her utmost to hold herself back, sweat travelling down her face. “Y-you should leave. Now.”
Abitare’s teleporter moved immediately. She gripped both Cattiva and Raskt, and once Abitare’s eyes flashed again, undoing his magic cancellation, they teleported. The last thing Raskt saw of the Sanctuary was his sister tearing her clothes and skin off, and the snarl of the creature beneath.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The two detectives' research through the archives was interrupted by a loud scream from the outside rooms. They looked at each other for a brief second before rushing outside the room towards the source of the noise. They rounded the corner to see a vampire, its massive fangs bared as it turned towards them from the three sorcerers it had just made a bloody mess of flesh and bones out of. It snarled, and attacked.
Uzija tried to trick it with an illusion of 3 people standing around it, but the vampire wasn’t fazed. The smell of fresh blood from the detectives was too strong, and it was upon them with blinding speed. Its claws slashed at Kiga’s clothes, tearing through it with ease despite the armoured magic it had been created with. Blood spurted from Kiga’s chest as he fell backward onto the floor. The vampire moved down, but something hit it in the chest.
“Oi, look over here!” Uzija shouted. She’d thrown one of her shoes at it, and quickly lobbed the other one over. The vampire easily slapped it to the side, and its hungry eyes turned to Uzija. She turned and ran in the other direction, and the vampire leapt after her.
Uzija knew that she couldn’t outrun it, no matter how fast she went. She rounded corners, running past the bodies of sorcerers and Cleavers alike, trying to confuse the vampire. But it didn’t work. The vampire bounded after her, getting closer and closer with every passing second.
Uzija turned her head, intending to see how far away from the vampire she was, but was instead met with the vampire’s claws as they raked across her face. She spun and fell to the floor on her stomach, feeling the blood fall from her face and start to pool onto the floor. The vampire landed on her back, its toes digging into her spine. She was going to die.
Then Eolas Hacht appeared, and all he did was hold out his hand.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raskt found himself back in the room he’d always spoken to Abitare in. Immediately, he pressed the amulet to his chest, feeling the necronaut suit within spread over his body. He pulled the mask over his head, and gave a sigh. That felt better.
Abitare smoothed down his suit, straightened his tie, and sat in his chair, crossing his long, thin legs. He motioned to his teleporter, and she disappeared for a short moment before reappearing with Raskt’s weapons, handing them to him. “I had collected Miss Clair’s as well, but it seems that she will not be joining us,” the crime lord explained.
Picking up his weapons and returning them to their rightful place at his side, Raskt turned to Cattiva. “Why did you free me?”
His question was met with a raised eyebrow. “Do you assume that it was not simply out of the goodness of my heart?” Abitare asked, his scratchy voice taking on a mocking tone. When Raskt didn’t respond, he continued, his elbows resting on his knee, hands clasped together. “It is quite simple, really. I still require your services as an assassin, although, for this particular job, your freedom is the payment.”
Raskt cocked his head to one side. “Another job? Already?”
The crime lord nodded. “You did not think I would free you without an immediate need, did you? This job, like the last, will be a tad different. A tad different in the way that I will be accompanying you. Or, rather, it is more like you are accompanying me.”
The mask on his face hid Raskt’s surprise from the view of Cattiva. “We’re doing this together?”
Abitare inclined his head. “You could put it that way, yes. You see, any job that I consider worth my time, I do myself. Trivial things, like killing some criminal in Japan or the Grand Mage, I leave to you assassins. But this one, I wish to do myself. All you have to do is make sure no one gets in the way. Do that, and your debt shall be paid.”
Raskt stood still for a moment. He didn’t like being indebted to someone, especially when that someone was Abitare Cattiva, and all he was asked of was to make sure that no interruptions occurred while Abitare did something, likely to do with murder? His answer was obvious. “What exactly will I be up against?”
“Where we are going, there are 5 factors, other than us,” Cattiva explained. “The first is the main objective, so you will not have to worry about it. The second is simply an inexperienced girl with ice magic, so she will not be much of a threat. The third, fourth, and fifth are all quite similar, but are distinguishable by their clothing. The red one can mend anything, the blue one can break anything, and the yellow one can reshape anything into whatever it wants. They have power, yes, but are small and timid. Killing any of them is not advisable, I do not wish to enrage the first. Although, if any of them try to interfere, you may use whatever force is necessary. Is that understood?”
The assassin nodded immediately. “Excellent,” Abitare said. “I will give you some time to prepare. By the end of the hour, we leave.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kiga sat at his desk in the Sanctuary. The vampire had been dealt with, and the Sanctuary’s Vitakinetics had healed him and Uzija quickly, but that didn’t make him feel any better. He clenched his fist beneath the table. How had he let that damned assassin escape?! The security cameras for the holding cells, as well as the room where the weapons of the assassins had been stored, were both taken out. Someone had helped them escape, he knew it. There wasn’t a way that they could have escaped by themselves. But who would have helped them? Was it Cattiva? It was certainly possible, but Kiga doubted that he’d risk that.
A knock came at his door. “Come in,” he said, and Eolas and Uzija stepped in.
“It was Cattiva,” the Supreme Mage said immediately. “Cattiva helped them escape.”
Kiga was immediately out of his chair. “What? How do you know?”
“One of the mages who survived the vampire attack said that she felt her magic suddenly disappear, and then come back to her only a moment or so afterwards,” Eolas explained. “That’s his discipline. I assume he got in and out with a teleporter.”
“A Magiphage?” Uzija asked, but the Supreme Mage shook his head.
“No. More like he gets rid of all magic within a certain radius.” He sighed. “I might be one of the only people who knows that. Like I said, we have a history.”
Kiga looked at Eolas. “But how will we find them? They could be anywhere with a teleporter.”
That’s when Uzija smiled. “I had Vriende use his Magiphagery to imbue a tracker with a bit of my Illusionism to make it essentially invisible. I slipped it into Raskt’s necronaut suit in case he managed to escape.” She took out her phone and showed a map of Roarhaven to the other detective and Supreme Mage, one that could only be seen by sorcerers who’d had it provided to them. “There,” she said, pointing to a red dot on the map. “That’s where Raskt is. And if my hunch that Cattiva will want something from Raskt in return, then he’s there too.”
“Uzija, you’re brilliant,” Kiga breathed. “We should follow them while we still can.”
Eolas’ eyes were focused on the red dot. “And I’m coming with you.”

2023.01.28 12:53 Herobrine7293 Necronaut Chapter 13 - Assassin's Woes

I changed half the plot because u/ZaniElandra told me to.

Assassin's Woes

Raskt sighed to himself, climbing onto Roarhaven’s rooftops. Today had taken a lot out of him. From reuniting with his sister, to fighting 4 sorcerers in a row, and then Alekto’s sigils that brought him to his knees, unable to offer any kind of meaningful resistance. He could still feel that attack, how it had seeped into his body like a virus and completely shut him down from the inside, his suit unable to stop it at all. His legs still felt weak from it, walking along the roofs like he was.
His mind wandered back to Lucina. He was happy to see her again, but it had brought back so many memories. Of his mother, how she’d… he shook it from his mind. He didn’t want to think about that right now. It wasn’t, she wasn’t, worth dwelling on. She was dead now, and that’s all that mattered. He shouldn’t ever have to think about her again.Making his way to his small hiding place, Raskt suddenly stopped. A sensation had come over him, as if something wasn’t right. Like the scenery was ever so slightly off. He looked around slowly, trying to find the source of this sensation, or if his mind was just playing tricks on him. Eventually, after a painstakingly long moment, Raskt decided that he was being stupid, and continued across the rooftops, moving towards the hole he kept his things in. Despite it not being very comfortable, he’d always felt safe there. After all, he was the only one who knew about it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Do you see him?”
Kiga nodded in reply to Uzija’s question. “Yep. I think I should be able to read his mind. The necronaut suit might make things a little difficult, but I can do it.”
Uzija patted him on the back. “Excellent. Once you dive deep enough, we can find some memories that should seriously affect him.”
“Mhm. Now, be quiet. I need to concentrate…”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Raskt got to where his home should be, something felt… off. The air looked like it was shimmering, the colour of the roofs felt off, and, most of all, he couldn’t find the hole. He knew the exact location of it, and knew that he was there, but he couldn’t find it. Everything felt off, as if it wasn’t real at all.
Suddenly, Raskt got the feeling that someone was watching him, and he whirled. His eyes widened in surprise as he saw who was behind him. It was his mother.
“Hello, Raskt.” Her voice dripped with hate, anger fuelling her words. Exactly as she’d always talked to him.
Raskt backed away slowly. “N-no. Y-you’re dead. Th-they killed you.”
His mother laughed a cruel laugh. “Oh, you silly boy. I can’t truly die so long as you remember me. You can’t get rid of me, Raskt. I’m going to be here forever, tormenting you in your mind.”
Raskt kept backing away, his entire focus kept on his mother, not noticing that he was close to falling off the edge. Meanwhile, his mother continued to advance on him.
“You’re the one who caused my death, Raskt! You and your sister! It was your fault! I brought you up, I moulded your brains so that you’d be able to become some of the best assassins in the world! I may not have trained you, but I prepared you! You became an assassin because of me, Raskt! I’m the only reason you are where you are! Who else would have given you the emotional training you needed to become an assassin? I did much better with you than I did with Lucina, and you know it. And you aren’t the least bit thankful! You hate me! You hate me when I’m the only reason you have any sort of small importance in this world!
Raskt stepped back one more time, but all his foot found was air. He toppled off the roof, and fell flat on his back on the concrete ground. His mother was gone from above him, and appeared next to him, staring at him on the ground.“You’re useless, Raskt. Useless as an assassin, and useless as a person. There isn’t anyone who cares about you. When the detectives get to you, they are going to lock you up so you never see the light of day again. Or, better yet, they’ll kill you.” She laughed. “God, I hope they kill you.” And then she was gone. But in her place was someone else. Lethe.
Useless, Raskt. That’s what you are. I thought you could be useful. Useful to me, to our little group. But no. You are just a small, insignificant little boy. You tell yourself that you’re a good person, but really, you just kill people for money. You tried to help your sister, but you did nothing useful. You’re just a useless tool.
“N-no…”
“You can’t deny it, Raskt. You’ve always been useless. I tried to make you useful, but you failed in every conceivable way. A failure is what you are. And it’s all you’ll ever be.
With that, Lethe was also gone, leaving Raskt alone on the floor. Then, he heard Kiga’s voice.
“I’ll give you one chance to give yourself up.”
The assassin scrambled to his feet, and backed up against the wall of the alleyway he’d fallen into. Kiga stood in front of him, a pair of shackles in his hands.“Well? What will it be?”
Raskt reached for his gun, but Kiga was faster, and kicked him in the chest, sending him stumbling into the wall. Uzija was suddenly beside him, and let loose a punch that hit Raskt directly in his mask, sending him to the ground. Kiga stepped closer, the two detectives surrounding him.
He was trapped.
Raskt attempted to pull his gun out again, but Uzjia kicked his hand, making the gun fall from his grip. Backed against the wall, Raskt snarled, before whipping out his knife and lunging at Uzija. Kiga launched a punch that Raskt dodged, but forced him to move off course, so his lunge with his knife missed. He whirled around quickly, jumping at Uzija again, but suddenly his mother was back in front of him, and Raskt stopped in his tracks. He tried to tell himself that it was just an illusion, but he couldn’t.
“Raskt, when you hugged Lucina, you like to tell yourself that you felt happy then, because you’d finally found her after all these years. But you felt nothing, did you?” She gave him an evil grin. “I did an amazing job with you.”
Then Kiga released a massive punch that sent Raskt spinning, blood splattering from his face onto his mask, obscuring his vision. His mother disappeared, and there was Uzija again, kicking him in the chest. He stumbled to the ground, dropping his knife. Kiga let loose a vicious kick to the head, making the world spin, and everything for Raskt started to go black.
“GET AWAY FROM MY BROTHER, SANCTUARY SCUM!”
Lucina appeared, screeching at the detectives, her fangs - fangs? - bared. Her claws - claws? - raked at Kiga, sending him stumbling backwards. She turned to Uzija and jumped at her at superhuman speeds, kicking off of her and sending her to the ground. Raskt’s sister turned back to Kiga, who’d just gotten back up, and picked him up effortlessly, throwing him into the wall.
Uzija appeared from behind Lucina, but the assassin seemed to sense her, turning and giving her a malicious jab to the stomach, knocking the wind out of her immediately. Lucina went to follow it up with a kick to Uzija’s chin, but the detective managed to throw up the illusion of a wall, confusing Lucina, giving Kiga enough time to get up and club her across the back of the head, sending the assassin down.
That was the last thing Raskt saw before the last of his energy left him, and he blacked out.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Raskt woke up, the first thing he noticed was that his necronaut suit was gone. The second thing was the stone-grey ceiling he was staring at, and the uncomfortable bed he was on. Raskt sat up, immediately noticing that he was in a cell within the High Sanctuary. It was clearly a holding cell, as there were only a few other cells around him, and most were empty. They all were, except for one.
“Raskt?”
He turned his head, looking at the bare wall next him. There was a tiny, barred window between the cells, and Raskt looked through it. “Lucina?”
The female assassin gave a sigh of relief. “Thank god. I was tailing you to make sure you were safe when I saw the detectives following you. I chased them, but they got to you first. I tried to help, but they beat me. I think we’ve only been here a few minutes, but-”
“Lucina, are you a vampire?”
A look of slight shock went over Lucina’s face. “Wh-why would you ask that?”
Raskt sighed. “When you were fighting, I noticed you had fangs, and claw-like fingers. So that was the conclusion I came to.”
Lucina looked down, then back up at Raskt. “Yes, I am a vampire. I became one maybe a few days after you disappeared. The vampires in the Fangs welcomed me into their community, but I couldn’t stay with them, so I ran away and became an assassin instead.”
Raskt raised an eyebrow. “That all makes sense, but, aren't you going to turn into a vampire the moment it turns night-time?"
Lucina shook her head. "No, the detectives noticed my fangs and fingers, and they etched a sigil into the cell, one I didn't even know existed, that basically curbs my vampirism as long as I'm in it, basically like the syringes I use normally."
"I see," Raskt replied, turning around to look at his cell.
“Do you not… care?” His sister asked, staring at him.
He simply replied with a shrug. “I don’t know why I would.”
Lucina didn’t say anything for a moment. “Do you care… at all?”
Raskt didn’t know how to reply to that, so he looked away, attempting to find a way out of here. Unfortunately, he was unable to get anything. Two Cleaver guards stood at the front of the holding cells, even though there were only two prisoners there. Raskt couldn’t see anything that would give him even the slightest chance of escape.
Lucina sighed suddenly. “Raskt, what’re we going to do?”
He paused for replying. “There’s nothing we can do, Lucina, except give up. We were captured. And there’s nothing we can do about that.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Well done, detectives,” Eolas Hacht said, smiling down at them from his chair. He’d finally convinced Vriende to remove the throne, replacing it with a much more humble armchair. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make it any lower, so he still had to look down on the detectives.
“Thank you, Supreme Mage,” Kiga replied, bowing his head mockingly.
Eolas sighed, getting up from his chair and walking down to them. He still looked down on them, but that was because of his height rather than a throne made by the arrogant Supreme Mage before him. “You captured the assassin, and an extra one to boot. Good job. But we have more pressing matters, those that concern these two assassins greatly.”
Uzija looked at him. “Being?”
“The person behind those assassinations, of course. Just recently, in the last two months, 3 people with a great effect on Roarhaven have been assassinated. Conduit Saladin, the Grand Mage, as well as Cornia Trey and Alekto Marikh, both leaders of various crime syndicates. We had been trying to take those last two down for a few years now, and they all die within a couple months of each other. Does that sound like a coincidence to you?”
Kiga crossed his arms. “So what you’re trying to say is that the person ordering these assassinations is likely a leader of a crime syndicate?”
Eolas nodded. “Correct, which means that there’s two possible people it could be. Christopher Reign, and Abitare Cattiva.”
“Christopher likes to stay in his own lane,” Uzija remarked. “It’s unlikely he’d do something like this now. I don’t know much about Abitare, but I’m willing to bet that he’s the one behind this.”
“Cattiva is very much the kind of person who’d want to control all of Roarhaven,” Eolas said, a stone-cold look on his face.
Kiga arched an eyebrow. “We know almost nothing about Abitare, he’s notorious for being incredibly secretive. How do you know that he’d want to control Roarhaven?”
The Supreme Mage gave a sigh. “Me and Abitare… we have a history.”
Kiga opened his mouth to ask another question, but Uzija cut him off. “So what should we be doing, Eolas?”
“Let Kiga read their minds. See if he can find out anything from them about Abitare. If they provide nothing, we’ll have to try something else.”
The two detectives nodded, and swept from the room. Eolas sighed, and moved to the room on the side of this one, the room where the Whispering was accessed from. He entered it, prepared himself, and stepped into the circle of sigils. Hearing the many voices of Roarhaven’s citizens, Eolas began to search.

2022.08.14 19:39 Dangerous2nite Predicting the second half of season 9

Ok so apparently the next Death Battle cast is going to reveal some of the combatants for the second half so I decided to get my predictions out beforehand and see if I’m right or not. Also I have been having a hell of a time lately so I won’t be putting as much effort into this as I usually do.
Marvel VS DC
so we’ve had one Marvel VS DC match up this season and it’s highly likely we’ll get at least one more. Due to the popularity of the rivallry there are a good few match ups that are nearly innevitable but if there was one that I really HAD to put my money on I’d say.
Black Adam VS Apocalypse
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: This is one of the most requested Marvel VS DC match ups out there and probably one of the most requested match ups in general. It got some big recpeption from it’s DBX which also places it on the DB teams radar and with the Black Adam movie coming out soon I think it would be a perfect time to do it now.
Roots:Black Adam.
Bets: Black Adam. Stats.
Animation: 2D
Comics
Now comics are Death Battle’s bread and butter and the big money maker even when facing against foes from other franchises. So we’ll definitely be getting some more Comic fights in general and there are a good few I can see hapening.
Asura VS Attrocitus
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: Asura is one of the top requests for Death Battle and the crew have already expressed interest in using him,to the point where he was almost in the S6 finale. And with this season focusing on new series I think he’s a pretty likely bet to show up. And while he does have a couple of opponets to pick from I think Attrocitus is the most likely of them. I think he’s the most requested one now? I don’t think we’ll see Broly back so soon since, unlike Captain Marvel, there isn’t really a reason to bring him back yet,and I think Kratos is more likely to fight Dante.
Roots: Attrocitus.
Bets: Attrocitus. Stats.
Animation: 3D
Gwenpool VS Haruko
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: Literal Ultraguy’s most wanted moment. I genuinely don’t know if I need to say more than that other than this is a pretty big request.
Roots: N/A
Bets: Gwenpool. Hax.
Animation: 2/D
Spiderman VS Ladybug
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: Note, just because a match up is on this list doesn’t mean I like it. Spiderman is one of the most popular Comic characters out there and is pretty well requested for a return with even the team expressing interest in bringing him back. And with No Way Home being recent and still fresh in everyone’s mind I think even though it’s been a few months it would still be a good time to use him. And Ladybug is Spidermans top request as well as her having a new movie coming out pretty soon. I will say some recent...events in the Miraculous fandom could have them move this match up to another season but I do,unfortunately still think this match up is likely.
Roots: Ladybug.
Bets: Ladybug. She should take all stats and outhax.
Animation: 3/D
Batman Who Laughs VS Black Battler
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: Ok if I’m being honest I think this is probably the least likely match up on this list, and the fact that I’m even entertaining the idea of this match up happening this season is mostly due to my bias of wanting Umineko on the show. But I think this season is probably the best chance this match up has of doing it. For one thing Umineko is a new series, somewhat infamous in the VS Community for being FUCKING OVERPOWERRED. And I know there was a point where this match up was quite popular and The Batman Who Laughs is a pretty big request as well as a big name in DC Comics. Yeah I don’t got much but it does have a chance...look I just really want this match up to happen okay don’t destroy my dreams please?
Roots: Black Battler.
Bets: Black Battler. He should be able to outhax via the Purple Truths.
Animation: 2/D.
Anime
Anime is one of the most popular forms of media out there and despite this there are actually very few series that Death Battle have actually touched with a lot of popular anime series being seen as overdue. So I think we’ll definitely be getting some more anime episodes in the next half.
Homura VS Kirumi
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: Madoka Magica is one of the more requested series out there. While not top of the list in requested series it’s definitely high up there. And with the new movie coming out I think it would be a good time to use it. And I think the two most likely candidates for the first combatant are either Madoka herself or Homura Akemi. And I do think this is the more requested match up for the series as a whole. Not to meantion that Date A live is also a pretty big requested series to show up with Kirumi herself being a top request. I know that both have other requested opponents and I’ve heard that Ultraguy apparently wants Homura VS Bernkasteal but I still think that this is the more requested match up for both of them so I’ll say that its the most likely match up to happen.
Roots: Homura Akemi.
Bets: Homura Akemi. Her devil form should easily outstat.
Animation: 2/D
Sailor Moon VS Madoka Kaname/Saint Seiya
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: Sailor Moon is one of the most requested characters to show up in Death Battle ever. And with the popularity of Beerus VS Sailor Galaxia I think she does have a good shot at showing up one day. Not to meantion she has not one,but two big requests that also happen to be from new series. Saint Seiya is a pretty heavy request and the series is also pretty requested. While I don’t nessicarily think the match up is a legacy,I do think it is a pretty heavy request with a good chance of happening this season. Madoka on the other hand is also a pretty heavy request and this match up has had a resurgance of sorts as of late to the point where I do think it can compete against Seiya especially with the new movie,as I’ve already meantioned. Overall I wouldn’t be surprised at either happening this season.
Roots: Sailor Moon/Both.
Bets: Saint Seiya/Madoka. Stats and hax.
Animation: 2/D for both.
Whitebeard VS Escansor
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: This is one of the more requested match ups out there and Seven Deadly Sins is one of the biggest new series to be requested on Death Battle. Yeah I don’t have much to say here other than, big request, requested series.
Roots: N/A
Bets: I...can’t remember who people say wins and I have no interest in this match up so I’m not really gonna bother to check.
Animation: 2/D
Video Games
We’ve had literally one video game combatant in the first half of Season 9,not including Excalibur and Raiden. So we’re almost GUARANTEED more. And I think these match ups are pretty likely choices.
Sly VS Rouge
Why I Think This Matchup Is Likely: Sly is a pretty big request for Death Battle and Rouge is pretty much his most popular opponent by a mile. Yeah overall I don’t have a lot to say other than Sly is a big request and Sonic is a pretty popular series.
Roots: Rouge.
Bets: Rogue.
Animation: 2/D/3/D
Lucina VS Kitana/Grovyle
Why I Think This Matchup Is Likely: Fire Emblem is one of the biggest series in video games and is one of the biggest series to yet be featured on Death Battle. With Ben himself asking people what matchups people want to see I think it’s near guaranteed to show up this year. And while it does have some good requests I think that Lucina is pretty likely to be the first rep to show up. She’s definitely the most popular thanks to smash and her competition like Edleguard and Dimitri are relatively unlikely for this season, since Edleguard’s most likely opponent is Kylo Ren and we’ve already had a Star Wars rep this season and Dimitri VS Guts apparently got deconfirmed. Anyways Lucina has two very popular requests and I’m 90% sure it’s going to be Kitana since she’s the most recognizable and is one of the most popular Mortal Kombat characters that they haven’t used yet. Normally I wouldn’t even entertain the thought of Grovyle happening over Kitana but with this season focusing on New series we wouldn’t expect to see on Death Battle this season is probably the match up’s only chance at happening. Though I’d expect another Pokemon match up to be more likely, which I’ll get into later,I do think that other match up isn’t 100% likely to happen this season so I wouldn’t be too surprised if we ended up getting another Pokemon match instead.
Roots: Kitana/Groyvle
Bets: Lucina/Groyvle. Stats,
Animation: 3/D for Kitana 2/D for Groyvle.
Travis Touchdown VS Scott Pilgrim
Why I Think This Matchup Is Likely: Travis is a pretty heavy request for Death Battle and with No More Heroes having somewhat of a resurgence I think this season is a good chance for him to show up. And while he may not be as much of a request as Travis Scott still is a pretty big request in his own right. And this matchup is easily the most requested match up for both of them. And while Travis may also have Jack I think this is more likely due to how it’s more requested within the general audience and Scott is just more recognizable in general.
Roots: N/A
Bets: Travis
Animation: 2/D
Halloween Episode
Scooby Doo VS Courage
Why I Think This Matchup Is Likely: This match up is pretty insanely requested and there’s such a noticeable comparison between these two characters that they even crossed over, and I don’t mean in the 80s I mean RECENTLY. Scooby is also one of the MOST iconic and well known cartoon characters out there so it wouldn’t be too unlikely to see him on the show. Plus Ben has said he wants to do more Cartoon VS Cartoon fights. Also this was a Community Death Battle not once but twice. I genuinely think this match up has a good chance at happening this season.
Roots: Scooby Doo.
Bets: Courage. He takes all stats.
Animation: 2D
Jason VS Micheal
Why I Think This Matchup Is Likely: I mean this is everyone's best bet for this season and one of the biggest requests out there. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it's a Legacy per say but it's close. In fact just about every Halloween people always think this matchup is likely and...to tell you the truth that’s why I don’t think this is going to be this season's Halloween episode. This is such a longtime hype request that it feels like it should be saved for something special and could be done at any time for a bunch of views. In a way it's too popular for me to think it’s likely if that makes sense?
Roots: Micheal.
Bets: Jason. Stats and Micheal has no real way to put him down for good.
Animation: L/A
Buffy VS Blade
Why I Think This Matchup Is Likely: The crew really seem to love this match up to the point where Ben has said that this is very likely going to be Buffy’s match up if she ever gets in. It’s been done as a DBC and is just overall a very big request and while it may have fallen into some level of Obscurity Buffy The Vampire Slayer is still an iconic show that has been reconised as having an impact on modern TV as we know it. So I do think it’s still likely to get some good views.
Roots: Buffy.
Bets: I’m not sure. I’ve heard Buffy wins if she gets a superform that used to be standard in the comics but she later gave up. I think Blade is the safer option though so I’ll go with him and hope to be wrong.
Animation: 2/D/L/A
Nemesis VS Pyramid Head
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: It’s one of the more popular match ups out there and is relatively requested, plus the Resident Evil 3 remake earlier this year. I don’t think it’s quite as likely as the other Halloween episodes but still has a pretty good chance.
Roots: Nemesis.
Bets: Nemesis. Stats.
Animation: 2/D/3/D
Junko VS Springtrap
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: This match up has EXPLOADED in popularity lately and Springtrap is one of the BIGGEST requests for a Death Battle lately. While he does have like,a million opponents what puts this one above the rest for me is that Danganronpa is literally Ultraguys most wanted series for Death Battle and he also believes Junko to be Viable. So I do think that this is Springtraps most likely opponent if he ever gets an episode and I definitely think that this has a REALLY good chance of happening this season.
Roots: Both.
Bets: Springtrap. Junko takes all the stats but Springtraps hax kinda screws her over.
Animation: Honestly I think this could work in any but 2/D is the most likelest.
Scarecrow VS Mysterio
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: Yeah,uh this is probably THE most requested Marvel VS DC match up out there and with No Way Home being fresh there’s extra incentive to do this now. However I will say that this is in a similar boat to Jason VS Micheal where it’s too popular to be likely for this season.
Roots: Scarecrow.
Bets: Mysterio.
Animation: 2/D
Freddy VS Pennywise
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: This is a pretty big request and while it has had some flak I do think that this has managed to retain it’s popularity in the eyes of the general audience. Plus Slasher movies have been a longtime request for a while now so I think this season would be the best time for Death Battle to consider doing them.
Roots: Freddy. I like the Tim Curry Pennywise tho.
Bets: Pennywise. Stats.
Animation: 2/D
Season Finale
So the season finale is usually a really big match up and with the theme of new series theres a lot of overdue big name matchups that happen to fit this theme.
Yugi VS Ash
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: This is the Playground Rivallry of Playground Rivallry fights. It’s a longtime request and a legacy match up in every sense of the word. Yu-Gi-Oh is one of the biggest series out there and one of the biggest requests for Death Battle in general so I definitely think that this has a good chance of happening this season.
Roots: Yugi.
Bets: Yugi. Stats and Hax.
Animation: 2/D.
Cole Mcgrath VS Alex Mercer
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: Yeah do I need to explain. This is one of the most requested match ups in existance. I think this is the Madara VS Aizen of Video Games and with both being new series that are heavily requested, not to meantion with the crew stating an interest in using Infamous due to Korra VS Storm last year I do think this match up has a really big chance of finally happening.
Roots: Cole.
Bets: Cole. Stats.
Animation: 3/D
Gru VS Megamind
Why I Think This Match Up Is Likely: The subreddit itself voted this match up to be a Death Battle cast and with Minions getting a sequel this would be a perfect time to do it. Also we’ve had some references to this match up already in the first half.
Roots:Megamind.
Bets: Megamind. He has the better weaponry and hax.
Animation: H/D
Final Bets
Now I know we’re only getting 8 more match ups, with one being revealed already and some of you might have realised that there are a lot more than 8 match ups here. So here’s my final bet for what the second half will look like.
Episode 9 - (RTX SPOILER)
Episode 10 - Gru VS Megamind - (Despicable Me VS …)
Episode 11 - (Halloween) - Junko VS Springtrap - (Danganronpa VS Five Nights At Freddy’s)
Episode 12 - Homura Akemi VS Kirumi - (Puella Magi Madoka Magica VS Date A Live)
Episode 13 - Spider-man VS Ladybug - (Marvel Comics VS Miraculous;Tales Of Ladybug And Cat Noir)
Episode 14 - Lucina VS Kitana - (Fire Emblem VS Mortal Kombat)
Episode 15 - Gwenpool VS Haruko - (Marvel Comics VS FLCL)
Episode 16 - (Finale) - Ash VS Yugi - (Pokemon VS Yu-Gi-Oh)

2022.07.22 07:42 HeadOfSpectre Water and Blood

I remember the way that things used to be, back when I was small.

I think about that a lot. Life was a whole hell of a lot simpler back then… The world bent to us. Not the other way around. We didn’t live like royalty… We didn’t have much wealth. We never wanted it. We never needed it. What we had and what we needed was the water and the blood. So long as both were flowing, we knew we would be fine. Water and blood. That was all we needed.

I’ve heard people call us a lot of things over the years. Sirens is the name that seems to have stuck… I suppose it’ll do, but I was never quite partial to it myself. I recall Sirens being those bird-like ladies from Greek myths who led sailors down to their doom. I ain’t no history expert but as far as I can tell, the mermaid iconography came afterwards.

That all said: Tales of pretty creatures and spirits bound to water who drew men in with their beauty, or hypnotized them before dragging them down to a watery grave have persisted throughout countless mythologies. Selkies, Morgrens, Nixies. Whatever. The list goes on. A lot of folks say that these myths only exist to keep children away from the waters edge and that’s only partly true. The water by itself can be plenty dangerous without us. But with us?

They were right to be afraid.

Water and blood. It was all we needed to rule the world. It used to be…

Even now, I can’t help but think back on the White Line Cannery incident of 1991. I still have nightmares about it.

I’d noticed our Sisters disappearing for the better part of twenty years. It had started back home, in Del Rio… Things had gotten so bad there, I’d packed up and slowly made my way north. I’d figured that it was just Del Rio that wasn’t safe… No…

Everywhere I went, all I found was small little communities of sisters just barely holding on. Numbers dwindling lower and lower every year. I didn’t understand it…

We used to be the apex predators. We were the top of the food chain! We weren’t afraid of jack shit and this was the state we were in? I didn’t get it… Not until the White Line Cannery… Not until I saw the truth.

We ain’t the only creatures out there. There are others. Dryads living in the woods, Harpies hiding in the sky and the fucking Mau, walking around in plain sight. I never much cared for the Mau. They don’t pass for human quite as well as some other fae do. They’ve got to hide themselves a little more. They’ve got too many cat features. The ears, the eyes, their shorter, more athletic stature. They can hide themselves well enough I suppose. But they need to put the effort in.

That’s not why I never liked them though. I never liked them because they had a reputation for being scheming, dishonest, backstabbing little shits, and by God did they ever fucking strive to live up to it. If you go in expecting to get fucked over by the Mau, they will not disappoint you. They’re slippery little bastards too, with that goddamn weird illusion type magic they use. So wringing their neck is always easier said than done. But for as little as I thought of the Mau… I never would’ve imagined what we found at White Line…

I’d been at Silver Lake at the time, and the disappearances had started up again. We’d looked into it on our own and found nothing. Eventually, one of our Elders had the bold idea to call for help.

Enter the FRB.
The International Fae Relations Bureau.
Not my first choice for help…

They’d sent in a man to look into the matter, and he’d led us straight to White Line. I was there when he made his way into the basement… I was there when we found my Sisters.

My people.
Butchered.
Farmed for fucking meat… Kidnapped from their homes, bred like animals.
Slaughtered… Like prey.

I can still see it every time I close my eyes.
I’m always going to see it…

We burned the cannery, obviously. We hunted down a lot of the others like it and took them down too, along with most of the Mau.

I won’t pretend it didn’t bring me no end of satisfaction to wipe most of those smug little cat faced shits off the face of the earth… They deserved what they got, for what they did to us.

The way I hear it, there aren’t many of them left. Good. Hopefully the last of them will die out sometime soon.

It always bothered me that we never got the guy who’d been running White Line, though… His name had been Frank Archer. Even among Mau, he was a slimy motherfucker. He’d slipped away while we’d torn down his factory and as far as I heard, he’d never dared show his face since. I’d asked around. I’d hunted for him. But I never found him.

I always wondered if he was already dead. He’d probably changed his name, ran off into the night and got offed by some other sister. But I was never certain of it. That’s what bothered me.

“Society is moving on. Where will you be in a hundred years? Still at the fringe, or at the top where we belong?”

Thats what he’d said to me as he’d fled White Line… He’d spoken through one of his fucking illusions, probably just doing it to distract us while he’d escaped. But I remembered those words.

I remembered my Sisters… The ones I’d seen over the past several years, the communities I’d seen slowly dying out. I remembered all of it.

I’d stewed in those words for a few years… And as I tried to move on with my life they marinated in my head. I couldn’t forget them. No matter how hard I tried.

We were dying… I’d known this for years. Even if I never wanted to admit it, I knew it was true and I wasn’t the only one. Water and blood wasn’t enough for us anymore. We needed to grow. We needed to innovate.

Ugly as what the Mau had done was… In time I started understanding it.

I still had no regrets about what we did. Destroying them was necessary for our own survival. But there was… Logic, in farming ones meat. I wasn’t interested in going that far. No… I was a hunter. I still wanted the joy of the hunt. I just wanted a larger pool of prey.

So I’d tried to innovate. I’d gotten a small crew of like minded sisters together and we’d tried a few different ideas. I’ll admit, none of them were winners. The ‘reality TV’ idea in particular was especially bad and the rest of the community shut it down after I’d finished the first season. (Which looking back was an ugly little thing and is perhaps the one thing I truly regret out of all this.)

I suppose it wouldn’t have mattered even if I’d had a truly great idea though… Sirens live for a thousand years… We should be better at dealing with change than we are. But that's just it. We don’t know how to handle change.

We simply just exist in our little communities and watch the world pass us by. We aren’t the kind who innovates. We’re the kind who fear innovation.

I don’t blame Silver Lake for exiling me… And I was sorry to hear it when a few years later, they were wiped out. But I tried. For as long as I lived there, I tried. I don’t regret that much. And with Silver Lake behind me and no desire to go further north, I finally went back home.

I was there with my Sisters when Del Rio was born.

We’d come from Spain a couple of years before to see this New World for ourselves… One of our older sisters, Luciana had insisted that it would be a world of limitless opportunity. She had promised us that the blood would never stop flowing and so far she hadn’t lied.

The young Mexico was a frontier back then. We lived well. We fed well. But we had yet to set down roots. Some of our sisters had laid claim to lakes and rivers but me and mine weren’t satisfied. Not yet.

Not until we laid eyes upon the Del Rio. A shining azure ribbon of limitless potential… Looking back, I suppose I only ever liked it because it reminded me of the Tagus. I’d grown up in that river, living in a community of my own kind near Madrid. And looking at the Del Rio for the first time, it was like I’d crossed the entire world and somehow found myself at home again.

I fell in love immediately. Luciana and many of the others did too.

Life needs water to live. Around a river like the Del Rio, towns and cities were bound to grow. So it was inevitable that eventually, they did. And we were right there the whole time.

Our community operated on both sides of the river. We didn’t give much of a damn for borders. We existed outside of humans little laws. We lived for ourselves. Me personally though? I kinda preferred spending my time on the American side. We’d built ourselves a cozy little saloon on the water to run our operations out of. ‘The Bittersweet Brewhouse.’ I forget who thought up the name, but it stuck.

The Brewhouse was our home and our perfect little trap… Men would come for booze and whores, and they’d leave with a pint or so less of blood, assuming they ever left at all. Our ability to hypnotize left those that did unaware that anything had happened. They only remembered the girls and the booze. Nothing else. We weren’t careless though. No. We innovated.

We had set rules against killing too many early on. We learned to run a smooth operation, taking just enough blood to satisfy ourselves and leaving the prey be for a few days afterward so they could recover. The flow of patrons was steady enough that we never had many issues and on the rare instance someone did die, disposing of the body was quick and simple. We’d drag them down into the river to bury them in the mud further downriver. Nobody would ever see them again. And that smooth operation took care of us. For decade after decade, we fed well and for a time we even thrived!

For a time… Not forever.

It was around 1970 where things started going wrong.

By then the Bittersweet Brewhouse was about a hundred years old… And our community was smaller than ever. There’s one unfortunate thing about sirens… We don’t have a whole hell of a lot of kids. And 9 times out of 10 when we do have one, it’s a girl. You don’t get a lot of boys and even when you do, raising them ain’t always easy…

A girl siren’ll know how to behave herself. For the most part. A boy? They’re reckless… Angry… And usually dumb as fucking rocks. They don’t tend to live as long because of that. You see where I’m going with this?

Our population ain’t exactly primed to grow all that quickly. I always figured that it was all balanced out by the fact that we tended to live for a thousand or so years… But nature often doesn’t give much of a shit about natural lifespans.

Things happen. Sisters get into trouble. Sometimes they get sick or have accidents… Sometimes they just straight up disappear.

And in the 1960s, there were a lot of disappearances. Our numbers fell from about 45 in 1935 to 18 by 1961.

Almost thirty sisters missing…
Some had died. Some had moved on.
But most of them were just… Gone.
They’d left to hunt and never come back.

We’d assumed they’d gotten themselves killed but there was no way of knowing for sure… We didn’t even think there were Mau in the area… We didn’t know…

Luciana, who had become one of our elders by that point, had eventually decided we needed to hunt in pairs. That slowed the loss, but didn’t stop it. By the time 1980 rolled around, we were down to 11… And Del Rio suddenly didn’t feel so much like home anymore.

The decision to leave for greener pastures wasn’t an easy one… But it was something I figured I had to do. Del Rio didn’t feel safe anymore. I had to leave it behind to find myself some new water and new blood. I said my goodbyes and headed north… Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois… Nice places with decent communities. But none were really for me.

Like I said before, they didn’t feel much safer than Del Rio… They had their own share of disappearances. I wandered for a bit, slowly making my way northeast. I eventually fancied that I’d go and see what life might be like in the ocean.

But I never made it. By the late 1980s, I’d found Silver Lake. And all these years later, I was headed back the way I came.

The Bittersweet Brewhouse was still standing, although I can’t say it was exactly as I remembered it. They’d redone so much, but the bones were still there. When I walked in for the first time in years, it was still just like coming home again.

My eyes were immediately drawn to a dusty photo on the wall by the bar… A picture taken in the 1890s of some of the ‘original’ Bittersweet family. I could see myself in there, smiling beside my Sisters. I could see Luciana in the middle, a look of quiet contentment on her face and I could see the faces of Sisters long since dead or gone too… That was the only thing that kept me from smiling when I saw it.

Bittersweet indeed…

I’d gone up to the bar and sat down. The bartender came up to me and I ordered a beer, before asking if Luciana was still around.

The bartender told me she was probably in the back office, and offered to go and get her for me. Looking at her, she obviously wasn’t a Sister. She was just some human, with no idea of the history of the building she worked in.

I’d be lying if I said that didn’t surprise me… Small as our community had been when I’d left, the Bittersweet had always been Siren territory. Luciana had never been a fan of hiring humans… Too risky. All the same, I tipped her a winning smile and waited at the bar, sipping my beer and looking over the changed decor. The beer wasn’t as good as I remembered.

Not a few minutes later did I hear a familiar voice speaking my name:
“Makayla? Is that you?”
I turned and put on a smile as I greeted Luciana. She pulled me into a hug when she saw me.
We exchanged the usual niceties. She said something along the lines of:
“It’s been too long dear! I was worried we might not see you again!”
And I told her that I couldn’t stay away from home forever.

She got herself a drink and we sat for a while, catching up… I wish I could say it was a pleasant conversation.

From the moment she’d sat down, I could see there wasn’t something quite right with Luciana’s smile… It didn’t reach her eyes. It almost seemed forced. Melancholy, even. Just the sight of it made my heart sink a little more.

“Things could be better.” She’d said to me, “I’ve got the Bittersweet. That’s something…”
“How are our sisters?” I asked, “Who’s still around these days?”
She laughed. There wasn’t any humor in it. She just sounded tired.
“You’re looking at her.” She said.
I blinked slowly.

“No… No way, it ain’t just you now is it?”
“It’s just me.” She replied, “Marie and Yvette were here until about eight years ago… Then Marie had a run in with some Mau. So it was just Yvette and I alone here for a while. Then she met a man. One of us… Got it into her head to have some kids and grow our little community. I was all for it… But I suppose the pregnancy wasn’t easy on her. She bled too much during the birth. I did what I could but…” She sighed and shook her head, “I buried both her and the baby in the river. Their spirits are with Omylia now.”

“What about Astrid, or Justina? Hell, where’s Taylor?”
“Astrid and Justina left after you did. I haven’t heard from them since. As for Taylor… When that whole conflict with the Mau broke out, she was one of their casualties. It’s a shame. But she went down fighting. I suppose that’s how she’d have wanted it.”
I had no response for that. Just a shocked silence. The only thing Luciana could give me for that was a reassuring pat on the shoulder.

“It’s good to have you home, if nothing else. I was starting to get lonely.”
Another humorless laugh before she got up and went behind the bar to pour herself a beer.
“I don’t imagine you’re staying though, are you?”
“Actually I was plannin’ on it…” I said softly, “Del Rio’s more a home to me than anyplace else has been.”

“I’m sorry you had to come back to it in this state then.” Lucina said, “I think there are other communities further downriver… I’d been hoping one of them might strike out this way. I’m getting old and I always figured that the Brewhouse should still be in Siren hands. Although with you here…”
“You think there are other communities?” I interrupted, “What the hell’s that supposed to mean?”

“They were there ten years ago… Who knows if they’re there now.” She said, “The world isn’t as… Hospitable, as it used to be… There’s no end of blood to go around, the water is still there but our numbers are still dwindling. People don’t take as kindly to disappearances anymore. Feeding discreetly is getting harder. Killing is becoming more and more of a hassle to cover up… Then there was that business with the Mau…” She sighed and took a sip of her drink, “The world just doesn’t seem to be fit for us anymore, it seems… It’s left us behind.”

“Why the hell do you sound so… So accepting of that?” I asked, feeling my blood boil a little. I wasn’t one to call out the old lady. But what she was saying sounded wrong to me… That kind of quiet acceptance sounded wrong!

“What else is there to do?” Lucina asked, “Everything dies, Makayla. Even us. The humans will die in time. The Mau will die. The fish in the river, the birds in the sky. Even the river will one day run dry. This is fate.”

“Just cuz it’s bound to happen don’t mean we’ve just gotta lie down and accept it!” I said, “We used to be on top! We used to be the apex predators! We still can be! Shit, what about that FRB group? What about them? We could work with them, couldn’t we? Figure something out. Put ourselves back together somehow!”

Luciana just scoffed.
“The FRB?” She asked, “You’ve dealt with them?”
“Just about once. Can’t say I loved every second of it, but they did right by us up North. They helped us with the Mau!”
“They helped you?” Luciana asked skeptically, “That’s funny, because the Mau who killed Marie were working for the FRB…”

I paused.

Mau, working for the FRB? That sounded… I knew the FRB hired folks from all walks of life. Humans, fae, whatever. I supposed it wasn’t that weird for them to have hired some Mau but the way Luciana said that…

It sounded like there was more to it.

“The hell are you talking about?” I asked.
“She’d been here for the night. Two men walked in. It wasn’t immediately obvious what they were, so Marie had pursued them… They’d seemed interested and had a hotel in town. Last I saw her, she was leaving with them and I assumed she’d be back within the hour. She wasn’t… So after some time had passed, I tried following her. I found the hotel. The men I’d seen at the bar had checked in there, but the man behind the desk hadn’t seen Marie… So I kept looking. Not too far from the hotel, I found an old warehouse by the harbor. I could smell Marie inside… I could smell the men with her… And when I went to see what was happening…”

She trailed off and closed her eyes for a moment.
“They’d already killed her… They were in the middle of carving her up… I just saw red. I remember coming for them. I remember crushing them with my bare hands and when I was done, I took Marie… What was left of Marie… And I commended her into the water, into Omylia’s embrace. Afterwards, I looked at the bodies. Both of them worked in Del Rio, at a local FRB office. I imagine there’s more of them working for that wretched fucking operation… Maybe they helped you with the Mau back then, but believe me when I tell you they aren’t your friends. They’ve picked their side.”

As Luciana had spoken, I’d listened in quiet horror. This sounded impossible… But why would she ever lie to me? Why the hell would the FRB allow something like that? Why the fuck would they hire those goddamn snakes?

“So what’s left but for us to accept the inevitable?” Lucina asked, taking a final swig of her beer, “Because I don’t see any other choice.”
Maybe she didn’t… But I wasn’t willing to accept it. Not yet.

I went looking for the FRB office in Del Rio a few days later. I don’t rightly know what I was looking, or expecting to find. Answers, I guess… Some proof that what had happened to Marie was just some fluke. A couple of dirty Mau fuckers doing something horrible despite the trust the FRB had put in them. I guess I just wanted to believe that there was help for us…

I managed to pick up one of their employees while they were heading home for the night. I wish I could say I had some grand scheme to kidnap them, but really all I did was walk up to them while they were on their way to their car. All it took was one look and they were mine.

With one of the FRBs researchers under my control, I was able to get back into the building pretty easily and take a look at some of their databases. I looked for anything on the Marie incident… I didn’t find much. Two Mau researchers had gone missing a few years back. That was really it.

It didn’t prove or disprove anything. So I dug a little bit deeper… Started looking at Mau employed by the FRB. The researcher I had in my control couldn’t access everything… But they accessed enough.

In the late 1990s, the FRB hired a whole hell of a lot of Mau… Mostly ones looking for protection from the sirens who were hunting them. I supposed that wasn’t the worst thing they could’ve done… One might even argue it boded well for my intentions. But as I looked through the names of Mau they’d taken in, one jumped out at me…

Frank Archer.

Frank Archer… The sonofabitch who’d run the White Line Cannery.

The sonofabitch who the FRB had known had been responsible for what had happened there.

In 1993, they’d hired him on as a ‘consultant’.

His fucking file mentioned that they knew what he was. They’d known what he did, but it also said, and I fucking quote:
“The value of Frank Archer as an asset is significant enough to justify his protection.”

Asset? Value? Who the fuck did these people think they were! They’d known what he’d done! They’d seen it all firsthand!

How many other Mau had been complicit in the mass murder of my kind? How many had the FRB welcomed in with open fucking arms and hidden from us?

My breathing was growing heavier as I scrolled through the document. According to it - He was currently in San Francisco… Alive and well, living comfortably under FRB protection. His past sins just a distant pleasant memory.

No…

No way was I going to fucking allow them to get away with that. Not a goddamn chance in hell!

The researcher I’d hypnotized to get in just stood dumbly beside me, waiting on my next command. I drank her blood and left her to die. Those two faced fucks at the FRB could have fun cleaning up that mess.

I didn’t stay in Del Rio that night.
I left for San Francisco.
There were debts that needed to be paid.

I suppose I shouldn’t have been surprised to find Archer living comfortably in a nice penthouse downtown. What’s that they say about cats and landing on their feet? For a man who every siren I knew would’ve gladly wanted dead, this was a far nicer home than he had any right to have. I spent my first day scoping out his security.

Archer wasn’t a fool. He knew his enemies and he’d planned for them. There wasn’t a single human on his security team. Anything that isn’t human doesn’t fall for hypnosis quite as easily. Specifically, he’d hired werewolves… I could smell it on them. A cat guarded by dogs… Cute.

But not invincible.

Archers little gang was tough. No question about that… But they were just that. A tough gang. Not an army. Not enough to stop me.

Now, some folks might have advocated a quieter approach to all this. But me? I may have been born in Spain but I’m a Texas girl through and through. I decided from the get go that I was dealing with them head on. And hey, if I didn’t make that motherfucker shit a brick into his litterbox while I was on my way to kill him, what was the point, right?

So I spent the next few days planning.

I’d counted about seven wolves around him. Four were always stationed outside his apartment building with two inside. Two of the four outside were always by the door. The last two were on patrol. The four outside would alternate their shifts every hour. Then after six hours, the two inside would come outside, and two of the ones outside would come inside. The last one was almost always by Archers side. No doubt that was the one in charge.

During the evenings, the patrols changed. Two wolves would guard the door, the other four would be inside. They seemed to trade off who did door guard duty at night. My strategy was simple. Hit them hard at night. Catch them while they were probably asleep.

I figured I could take out the two door guards, and force my way inside. Yeah, that probably wasn’t the smartest idea I’d ever had… These were Werewolves. Not something one should fuck with idly.

But I figured I could handle it. Come nightfall, I made my move.

It was around 3 AM when I hit them. The first Wolf didn’t even see it coming… Literally. I’d rented myself a truck and turned the headlights off. Then I’d come at him full tilt from the darkness. He probably heard the engine revving but he didn’t see me coming until it was too late.

I can’t imagine they were expecting me to come at them with a Chevy Silverado… But I fucking did. The first Wolf, I squashed like a bug against the wall behind him when I hit him. I can’t imagine there was a hell of a lot left to bury. He didn’t even get a chance to dive out of the way.

The second one was in the middle of picking himself up when I got out of the truck and unloaded two barrels of silver buckshot into his chest.

Now - I admittedly heard that it was a myth you needed silver to kill a werewolf, but I didn’t feel like taking any chances. Whether or not it was the silver that killed him, he didn’t get back up.

I reloaded my shotgun, fixed my hat, and kicked the door in.

Archer was up on the top floor, right in the penthouse. Waiting for me, no doubt.

The elevator required a key to go up there, but I was able to swipe one off of one of the dead guards bodies easy peasy.

All that security and I basically just strolled in through the front door like I owned the place… Hell, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t having a little bit of fun.

I took a deep breath as the elevator made it to the top floor. I suppose I knew that either I was going to kill Archer, or I wasn’t leaving alive. That was fine by me.

The doors opened. I was greeted by the sight of an expensive looking lobby. One of the werewolf guards was in the middle of actually changing into a werewolf. The other had already changed.

Both came charging right for me the moment those doors opened. Guess they hadn’t wasted any time.

I put both barrels in the head of the first one. That dropped him before he could pounce. The second one however was just a little bit faster. He tackled me head on and almost sent me right back into the elevator.

I pulled a knife from my boot and drove it into his belly. I hate to say that he was just a little faster than I was, though. He tore the shit out of my arm and left me with a couple of scars and I only barely kept his jaws off my throat as I tore the knife down his stomach, cutting him deep and gutting him like a fish. I remember the wolf squirming on top of me, roaring in pain and anger as I felt his entrails spilling out onto me. Gutting him had only slowed him down, it didn’t stop him.

He’d gone for my throat again and I struggled to keep him away with my free hand. I’m strong… But not werewolf strong.

I managed to get my knife up to stab him in the neck. I had to really get the knife in there and twist it before he finally died… And the bastard had clawed me up in the process. But I wasn’t dead just yet.

I picked up my shotgun and reloaded before searching around for Archer and his last three wolves.

The penthouse was big, but not that big…

I hadn’t been searching for long when one of the wolves found me. This one didn’t put up half the fight his predecessor did. Werewolves are tough, but they aren’t immune to a barrel of buckshot in the face.

I was smart this time and only gave him the one. When he hit the ground, pawing at what was left of his face, I only shot him a second time when I was sure I wasn’t about to get blindsided by another one of those Wolves. I reloaded again and kept on searching.

By my count, I should’ve only had two more wolves to go… Personally I’d say I was doing pretty damn good. I made my way to the top level of the penthouse and as I got up the stairs, I saw a shadow of a man standing by the window.

I’d raised my shotgun to fire at it, only to pause when I heard it speak.
“Please. Save your ammunition.”

I narrowed my eyes, studying the shape for a moment but keeping my shotgun ready. This was just an illusion… Some of that damned Mau magic. But the wolves could’ve been anywhere…

“I remember you. From White Line, no?”
“Yeah, and I’ve been looking for you for almost thirty goddamn years.” I’d replied, “You gonna come out and die like a man, or are you gonna run and hide again?”
Archer laughed.
“While my instincts say run… I’m afraid you’ve successfully caught me off guard this time. Which would you prefer, that I send my last two wolves out after you to fight to the death, or that we talk this through like civilized people?”

“Oh, I’ve got no preference. So long as I get to send you straight to hell.” I said.
“Very well…”
Archer was silent for a moment before sighing, “I’m in the office. Just down the hall. I’ll ask Mr. Moir and his remaining associate to stand down… No need to get them killed, I suppose.”
“Smart move.” I said, although I had my doubts that he was actually going to have his boys stand down.

Still, I made my way down the hall with my gun at the ready. Up ahead I saw an office door with two men standing by it. I figured that they were Mr. Moir and his remaining wolf. The one I assume to be Moir looked at me and huffed indignantly as I passed… But he didn’t attack.

Archer was in the office as promised, sitting calmly behind his desk. He was older than I remembered him. But I suppose Mau don’t live quite as long as we do.

“Of all the people I’d thought to see again, you were not one of them…” Archer said softly, “I mean that as a compliment, of course. I’ll admit, I truly thought I was safe here…”
“Not from me, you ain’t.” I hissed, “There ain’t a rock on this planet you could crawl under where I wouldn’t hunt you down and find you.”
“And yet it took you thirty years…” Archer said, “Lot of rocks to look under, I presume?”

“You shut your goddamn mouth!” I snarled, aiming the gun at him, “I ought to smear your brain all over the wall for what you did!”
“And yet you haven’t.” He said, “Interesting… Why is that? Were you expecting some kind of answer? Some sort of justification for what I did back at White Line? Or what… An apology?”

I paused, my finger resting on the trigger.
I wanted to pull it… I did…
But the question he asked… It stuck in my brain. What did I want?

“You ain’t suffered enough for my liking yet.” I said, but that was really just me talking to hear myself talk and he knew it. He just smiled at me, stupid cat ears twitching.

“Then by all means, torture me. Kill me. Drink my blood. Whatever you need to do. Or, ask your questions. Ask me why I did it.”
I hesitated for a moment.
I didn’t want to play one of his stupid fucking games.
But I had to ask…
I had to.

“Why? The farm… The killing… What was the fucking point of it all? Why the hell would you do that to us?”
“Why not?” Was his response, “I might as well ask you why you kill people. All of this? Tonight? That’s settling a score. That’s different. What about the humans you’ve fed on? What about the ones you’ve killed? Why did you do that?”

“That’s food! We need the blood to survive!”
“And we need meat to survive. That’s all this was.”
“It ain’t the goddamn same!”
“Isn’t it? Your kind can survive just as well off animal or fish blood… But you seem to prefer human prey? Why is that? Ease of access? Flavor? Both?”
His smile told me that he already knew.

“It’s the same. Now… Were your kind more of a delicacy? Absolutely… A fine meat to be savored with white wine. But ultimately just that. Meat. You want justice? There is none. There’s no morality or immorality in these things. There is just predator and prey. As I said last time we saw each other… We’re really not that different. Given the chance, you’d have done something similar.”
“Not like that!” I argued, “We wouldn’t have gone that fucking far!”
“Wouldn’t you have? Some vampires already did. Did you know some of them have started making blood farms, and there are plenty of sirens with no qualms about using those. We’re all just predators competing for food. Your kind has fallen behind. So they became prey. That’s the way it is. Simple as that.”

“Fuck you.” I spat.
Archer didn’t give me any reply. He just sat and smiled at me.
“You know I’m right.” He said, “And unless your kind do something about it… They’re going to die out. If anything, I’d argue we helped them more than we hurt them… We actually got your birth rate up. There were more sirens after you shut down our operation than there were before. We fixed your problems for you. And now you’re going to destroy yourselves all over again and when you finally die out, you’ll beg for us to-”

I pulled the trigger, unloading both barrels into his head.Archers body jerked backward. His head seemed to hang off his body. He let out one final gurgle… Then he went silent.

My hands were shaking. My hands have never shaken like that before…

I stared at the body sitting in its chair, a mess of bone and gore where the face had once been. I thought I’d feel vindicated…

I just felt…

Empty.

I dropped the shotgun and turned away. I left Frank Archer where he lay and I left San Francisco. I didn’t look back. And yet at the same time, I can’t seem to stop looking back.

I realize now that I didn’t achieve anything by killing Frank Archer… I just settled a pointless vendetta.

The Mau were a problem… Of that, I’m still convinced. But Archer was probably nothing more than middle management. Even if I hunted and killed them down to their last, I don’t know if I’d ever kill enough to convince myself it ever did any good.

I’ll admit… I got bitter after I killed Archer. I ended up wandering for a bit and eventually found my way back north, looking for friends. I didn’t find any.

I started killing my prey just because I could. I don’t regret it… Ultimately that got the FRB on my ass and once they got involved, it wasn’t long until they got me. Truth be told, I was sorta hoping they’d just kill me and get it over with…

But no.

I guess fate had other plans for me.

The shipped me off to some fucking prison in Arizona and had some fucker ask me about the people I’d killed, like it even mattered. And all the while I thought about my life… I thought about my future, my peoples future.

I might be the only one who sees how dire our situation truly is… And I’ve realized something.

If we’re going to find our way back, we need to change. In that prison, I realized what Archer was trying to tell me… I finally understood. We need to rise up and seize the world by the goddamn throat. We need to get organized, we need to rebuild, because if we don’t then we’re all going to die.

There’s just one little obstacle in our way… Those goddamn snakes at the FRB.

I realize now that I was right not to trust them. They ain’t watching out for us. They want the world to stay the same. They want us to die out the way we have been. But I won’t fucking stand for that!

They say that no one’s ever escaped the FRB’s little prison.

Well I fucking did.

I figured out how to control the guards… I made the warden question the security. And when they moved me for repairs to the prison, I got out. Since then, I’ve been busy.

I’ve made some new allies… I’ve put together my Militia of Vampires, werewolves and others. Anyone looking for change. Anyone looking to set the world right and return things to their natural state.

We’ll start with the FRB… They’re the biggest threat. I’ll get rid of them first, then the others like them.

I won’t let my kind die out anymore.
