2024.05.20 00:39 chinchillacilla Required reading in the 90s elementary school. Black-white southern race relations maybe?

Hi! I’ve been trying to remember a book I had to read in the early 90s in elementary school maybe 5th grade. It was a historical fiction. Details I remember- there were African American servants maybe living with or just working in the home of rich southern white folks. There was a young girl’s birthday party and the girl requested a baked Alaska as dessert. There was a whole big ordeal surrounding this cake and the young black servant girl was partially responsible for helping to make this cake. Mentions of an icebox. I believe disaster ensued with the cake.
These are the only details I remember! I feel like the book centered around the young black girl who either worked in the home or was the daughter of the maid, and she was close to the age of the white birthday girl. It was a lot about the black experience in the south. Help!!! I’m creating a book list for my kids to read and I can’t get this one out of my head, so it obviously stuck with me!

2024.05.20 00:37 busybookbee [PubQ] QueryTracker withdrawal procedure

Hi!
I recently sent a query to an agent, and didn't realize their trigger warnings prior to them requesting the full manuscript. I sent over the full manuscript, realized the TW after already sending, and then withdrew my submission and explained there is a topic covered in my manuscript that they are not comfortable reading which is why I withdrew.
In my synopsis, it did explain the content of the manuscript and topics that are addressed. Even though my synopsis was submitted with the original query, I still wanted to err on the side of caution just in case they didn't read the synopsis.
My question is, would this agent be able to contact me even though I withdrew?

2024.05.20 00:36 Spitfyre3000 Wanna try Naruto 5e mod?

Hey there, been running 5e for like 8-9 years, and i want something similar but new! This mod is where i wanna go at DMing it to try it, and don't worry if you've never seen the show or don't want spoilers, my intent is to keep it isolated from the events of the show, just in the same world! Really bare minimum knowledge of Naruto is needed for the game, as long as you're willing to do a bit of reading, since it's a hell of a modification to 5e!
Based in North London btw.
So, for this i always kinda prefer to start with a mini game, y'know, 2-3 sessions, maybe more if needed and decide if we wanna continue from there, give people a chance to change their characters if they want.
Message me if your interested and comment if you've got questions so people can see the answers too.
https://www.reddit.com/UnearthedArcana/s/Lkft6H4zFe This post above has the smaller version of the mod book, but there's a larger more detailed set of 3 that i can provide if you want to read, they're all free.
Hoping i get at least a bit of buzz given it's something parallel but different to the usual 5e posts. Have a nice day!

2024.05.20 00:35 Bionickiwi First Job Offer

I got my first job offer at a charter school. It’s an hour drive through Los Angeles and it might be more coming back home. It’s a Physical Education position and the school has only a small turf area and four basketball backboards. So I’m somewhat limited in my areas. I would be in charge of 60+ students, grades 5, 6, 7, 8, with the help of an aid.
I like the staff, expectations, and school culture but some of the other factors make me kinda iffy.
My mentor teacher and a couple of my friends who are first year PE teachers says that a job in hand is a job in hand, but my supervisor says to listen to my gut feeling and to not sell myself short and it’s okay to not want your first offer.
My question is what do I prioritize on my list of factors that will help me decide. Is it the commute? The available facilities? The school culture/expectations?
Additionally this past week I did three job interviews. So I am still waiting on their decisions as well. I guess I feel guilty or that I might regret not taking the offer because I want other ones. Any advice would be appreciated.

2024.05.20 00:35 big-mf-deal Extreme RSD after not getting my dream job offer

I’m a new teacher looking for my first job. I was offered a 6th grade position and a 4th grade position at meh schools. I asked both schools to give me until Friday to make a decision. Friday, while I was working in my long-term position, my school principal pulled me in her office to let me know there was a rare opening at another elementary school in the district. This school is wonderful and has a great reputation. Plus, the job was 2nd grade, my favorite. We rearranged the entire day - I had to have someone else cover my class so I could go to the interview, I missed lunch entirely, and I was actively interviewed for over an hour by the principal, assistant, and 5 grade-level teachers. It went really well and I was so excited! The principal understood that I needed an answer that day but asked me to wait until 4:00 because he had another interview at 3. When I left, I knew I had the job. I was so excited and everyone was so happy for me to possibly stay in the current district.
He called right at 4 and was so nice, but told me they went with the other candidate. It came down to experience and the other candidate had a lot more. While I understand that, I just can’t accept it and keep asking myself why they went to all the trouble of interviewing me if they knew they didn’t want a first year teacher. I’ve been crushed all weekend. I’m talking extreme depression, unable to leave bed, crying spells, recurrent intrusive thoughts, negative self-talk, all of the things. I know a lot of it is due to where I am in my cycle, but I’m really struggling. Idk what I want from this post, just wanted to get it out I guess.

2024.05.20 00:35 PucksnDucks Maybe to conspiritory... Lally and objections

If there's an attorney in here please feel free to correct me about objecting without saying what the attorney is objecting to.
I don't know if this was posted, but this is Lallys 1st criminal trial. I read he did small stuff, no criminal. I personally feel like the good lawyers weren't tagging their reputations to this shitshow. Morrissey is all in because he's involved in the cover-up. It's also my opinion that Bev is tight with big Mike and is trying to get this through without getting mud on Morrissey and limit the exposure of Canton and MSP. If Friday showed us anything, it's that Yanetti and Jackson aren't bringing evidence without Bev censoring it.
But, back to Lally.. so you have this idiot prosecuting a case so far out of his league it makes you wonder why it's not worse than it is. Remember the coughs and sighs ? Bev was even calling sustained before Lally called for an objection. My question for someone with more knowledge of the courts. From what I understand, it's almost never heard of for someone to ask for an objection with stating why. This is where a useful idiot like Lally comes in. The 1st week he was just playing off Bev. Then everyone started pointing out Bevs behavior. So all of that stops.. everything except the insane amount of objections and Bevs side bars. So how does Lally know? I think he has a device (buzzer) that a person who doesn't want to be on the stage. This way he can call an objection without having to know why. Bev then acts like he's a genius when he's wrong and says "I'll let this one go".
Sorry for the tinfoil hat.. lol this case just doesn't make sense to me. Just like Proctor., why did Bev have to be involved lally had no choice. He's like the guy prosecuting Turtleboy

2024.05.20 00:34 PLpro12 What are the implications of Amazon's fulfillment center locations on my shipping costs and delivery times reddit?

Geographic Distribution

Amazon strategically places its fulfillment centers in various geographic locations to ensure efficient order fulfillment and delivery. By strategically distributing these centers, Amazon aims to minimize shipping distances and expedite the delivery process. This geographic dispersion enables Amazon to reach a vast customer base promptly.

Proximity to Major Markets

One of the primary considerations in establishing fulfillment center locations is their proximity to major markets. By situating these centers close to densely populated areas and key transportation hubs, Amazon can reduce transit times and shipping costs. This proximity facilitates faster order processing and delivery, enhancing overall customer satisfaction.

Regional Demand Patterns

Amazon's fulfillment center locations also reflect regional demand patterns and consumption trends. By analyzing customer data and purchasing behavior, Amazon strategically places fulfillment centers in regions with high demand for its products. This ensures that popular items are readily available and can be delivered swiftly to customers in those areas.

Impact on Shipping Costs

Amazon's fulfillment center locations have a significant impact on shipping costs, both for the company and its customers. Understanding these cost dynamics is essential for businesses seeking to optimize their supply chain and minimize expenses.

Economies of Scale

By consolidating inventory in strategically located fulfillment centers, Amazon benefits from economies of scale in shipping. Bulk shipping to these centers reduces per-unit transportation costs, allowing Amazon to offer competitive shipping rates to customers. This cost advantage contributes to Amazon's ability to provide free or discounted shipping options, enhancing its attractiveness to consumers.

Distance-Based Pricing

The location of fulfillment centers influences distance-based pricing structures for shipping. Closer proximity between fulfillment centers and customers' delivery addresses results in shorter shipping distances and lower shipping costs. Conversely, shipments to remote or underserved areas may incur higher shipping expenses due to increased transit distances and logistical challenges.

Competitive Pricing Strategies

Amazon leverages its extensive fulfillment network to implement competitive pricing strategies for shipping. By optimizing routes and leveraging volume discounts with carriers, Amazon can negotiate favorable shipping rates. These cost savings are passed on to customers through discounted shipping options, fostering customer loyalty and driving sales.

Effects on Delivery Times

In addition to influencing shipping costs, Amazon's fulfillment center locations play a crucial role in determining delivery times. The strategic placement of these centers enables Amazon to offer expedited delivery options and meet customer expectations for fast order fulfillment.

Same-Day and Next-Day Delivery

Proximity to major markets allows Amazon to offer same-day and next-day delivery services in select areas. By strategically locating fulfillment centers near urban centers and densely populated regions, Amazon can fulfill orders rapidly and deliver them to customers within tight timeframes. This expedited delivery option enhances customer convenience and satisfaction, driving repeat business.

Two-Day and Prime Delivery

Amazon Prime, a subscription-based service, offers members expedited shipping on eligible items, typically within two days. The strategic placement of fulfillment centers enables Amazon to fulfill Prime orders quickly and efficiently, meeting the expectations of its Prime members. This expedited delivery option enhances the value proposition of Amazon Prime and incentivizes customer enrollment and retention.

Delivery Optimization Algorithms

Amazon employs sophisticated algorithms to optimize delivery routes and streamline order fulfillment. By analyzing factors such as order volume, inventory availability, and transportation logistics, Amazon can minimize delivery times and maximize delivery efficiency. This continuous optimization process ensures timely order fulfillment and enhances the overall customer experience.

2024.05.20 00:33 No_Chemistry9054 ADHD and Narcissistic Abuse

I am three weeks post break-up from a man I have come to believe is a narcissist. Long story short, he left me after two years. He slipped back into full blown alcoholism (we both value recovery, or so I thought) and the verbal abuse increased. He has been unable to take accountability at all and has even continued to try to hurt me through the break-up (more verbal abuse and pics/videos of him being intimate with the girl he started seeing a week after we broke-up).
I've obviously been struggling. I'm doing everything in my power to be healthy and re-enegage in self care after neglecting my needs for a long time. One of my biggest coping mechanisms is research and I found this article when reading about ADHD and Narcissistic Abuse. I'll leave the link below, but here are some points that stood out to me. I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
