Hi, I'm a transfem student joining up as a freshman next year. I just went thru my housing application (didn't entirely finish it but I paid the fee) and I'm a bit concerned about gender inclusive housing.
I applied to allen bc that seems like whwt most people say is best for queer people, but I'm concerned that at the beginning of the application, it asked me to choose a roommate designation of "female" or "male". I chose female.
Will there be a chance that I get matched with someone who isn't okay with being housed with transgender people? And would selecting "female" designation mean that I wouldn't be matched with any trans guys or nonbinary people? (I'm fine with any roommate except for cis men)
Also, is there a lgbtq housing liaison or something that I can ask questions to about all this 😵‍💫😭 I'm very confused

Hello all!
I am finalizing purchasing a truck for my summer job and I am torn between 2 Tundras.
Tundra A (dealership): 2007 Toyota Tundra SR5 odo 131k RWD, Double Cab, Towing package basically stock features
This Tundra is $12,500, but with dealership fees and tax, it comes to about $14,250.
Tundra B (private): 2010 Toyota SR5 4x4 odo 275k Newly rebuilt engine with 6k miles on it, 4wd, Double cab, towing package, upgraded interior (new stereo and interior upholstery), Complete top end rebuild including timing chain / all gaskets / water pump / heads remilled/ new valves, upgraded bumper and fog lights.
Price of this Toyota comes out to $11,950.
I am completely torn on what decision to make. On the dealership side, it has less miles on it and runs pretty well (went and test drove it earlier), but in the private, its from a car guy so it's more decked out, is better taken care of, and the engine has been rebuilt by a reputable auto shop. I'm just sketched out by the 275k miles. I know Toyota run well into 500k. His reason for selling it is he got a new truck for work and doesn't see a point in keeping both.
I'm just looking for a bit of advice from some of you guys. Thank you.
I do plan on purchasing a warranty for either car, though I understand purchasing a warranty for rebuilt engine can be tasking.

Hello this year I made 100k Gross in DFW Metroplex. Here is my current finance
30M Electrical Engineer (CS job) Single
401k - 44k (8% each yr for 2.8yrs)
Roth IRA : 7k
HYSA : 43k
Schawb : 1.3k
Student loans : 12k
I'm 1st gen American and my parents are strawberry workers in California. I'm trying my best to figure out what to do with money. Parents suggest buying home in Texas to have equity and stop paying rent. I think houses are OverPriced rn but prices are going down and there is a lot of inventory compared to 3yrs ago. Living in DFW I noticed homes that are 250k and are comparable to Cali 750k homes. I suggested buying these types of homes to coworkers who live in Texas their whole lives and they say i have no taste in houses. Later come to realize they all had wealthy parents and decent TX homes so idk if I should believe them that it is indeed a bad idea. Fancy homes are ~360k which mortgage comes to ~3.3k + Bills and I think this is too much tbh.
Tried Investing in stocks & lost 800 so hesitant on stocks. I always see "invest in S&P500 but idk what that means. Like is it a stock you buy itself? (Trying to give y'all an idea of how much i know about this area. Willing to try again if y'all have great resources to throw my way). Rn I have stocks in VTI, Berskhire Hathaway B and Schawb. I heard Mutual Funds, ETFS, and Index funds are better but don't really know which ones how to know what is good. If I ever get to 100k cash I was thinking of getting a fiduciary financial advisor but don't know if this is a good idea.
Another thing I've been thinking is increasing 401k from 8% to max possible and paying a fee to have the companies professional investors manage this (Personally I feel this is a bad idea bc of bad genetics that run in family).
The final thing that I have been doing is just saving as much as I can per month to HYSA so I can have cash and a safe return of 4.5%. I'm open to "riskier options" than this, but as of my current financial literacy, this is the best I know.

I couldn't believe it. I felt confident on maybe 20% of the questions. Was pretty sure I was failing terribly all the way through. But thanks to this sub, I was familiar with similar stories. Once I went past question 100 I thought "welp, glad I got the retake" as I had only 38 mins left. I did two more questions, and it told me to go pick up my results. I didn't even look at it until I got to the car. Then I read "Congratulations..."
 
Most relevant experience: 14 years consecutive enterprise level IT (11 yrs Healthcare field services, 3 yrs Higher Ed applications systems admin);

Study Time: 6 months, couple hrs a week, leisurely pace until last 2 weeks, then 8 – 14 hrs a week.

I am just taking this for professional growth, I was under no timeline or obligation.
 
In hindsight, I wish I would have printed the mind maps and filled them out as I watched the LinkedIn Learning videos. I watched those on double-speed since a good chunk of this stuff is already familiar from Security+ and just my work experience. As I completed sections for each Domain in LiL,I would do the quizzes in the Practice Questions book under that domain 10 – 20 questions a few times a week, and as I progressed I would add in questions from the previous covered domains, tracking it all in Excel. I was working out of the 2nd edition book (2018 - hand-me-down) but I bought the 3rd edition (2021) for the practice tests. There is not a huge difference but I figured I could use any edge I could get.
 
I spent a lot of time analyzing and studying any questions I missed in the quizzes. By the time I did the first practice exam I got 74% correct. I’d study the ones I missed, and do the next test. After I finished the 4 Practice Tests in the 3rd ed (74, 76, 77 and 78%) I scheduled with a month left. I then went back and did the tests from the 2nd editions, studying in between the hazy subjects or missed questions. Scored 74%, 80% and 89% on the ones I did there – but keep in mind, they are basically the same tests I already did with a few questions swapped out.
 
The mind maps were helpful - just a good place to take written notes and keep track of topics and Domains and draw stuff out like Kerberos and IPSec, etc. I didn’t start using those until 2 weeks before the test, I was like “damnit – this would have been so helpful” - some of the more subtle stuff is easier to remember if you group it in under the appropriate section, and I think writing supposedly improves ability to recall information also.
 
The podcast I just turned on a couple days ago but it was helpful to listen to the items as I was driving to and from work, I thought it was well done. I also thought the 50 CISSP Questions YouTube video was helpful to remind me of the mindset we need to have when taking this test. I am definitely someone that gets lost in the details, as you might guess from this wall of text. ;)
 
Glad I did it, glad it’s over. Going to unwind and focus on my home life, degree and work initiatives for rest of year.

I'm having a lousy day as a parent and could use some outside perspective. My kid is 12 and they have a defined chore list: unloading the dishwasher and trash, usually 2-3 wk, takinng the trash bin out to the curb once weekly, keeping their room and bathroom tidy (no dirty clothes on the floor, not collecting plates and cups in their room, and taking out their bathroom trash when it's full); there's no vacuuming, dusting furniture, mopping floors, or scrubbing toilets. These are not new; we started with these tasks young, but with me helping.
I was hard on my kid tonight. More so than I needed to be.
My frustration this evening came from the fact that it's Thursday night and the kitchen trash is overflowing for the second time this week. The trash bin needs to go out to the curb for 7am pickup. The dishwasher was full of clean dishes that needed to be put away so I could load tonight's dirty dishes. I asked her to deal with the trash and of course the faces she made. Ugh. I didn't have it in me so I've told her to go upstairs and let me clean the kitchen in peace.
About an hour later, I went up and found her in her room. Immediately she brings her iPad showing me swimsuits she wants me to order for a party this weekend. There's dirty clothes on her floor, makeup smudged on her vanity, q-tips with mascara strewn about. She had not showered or otherwise gotten ready for bed. She had not charged her school laptop or other devices for tomorrow. More trash on her bathroom counters, clothes on the floor. We have tried keeping chore lists and reminders on whiteboards, on the refrigerator, and even on get phone. Makes no difference.
I worked all day today except for the nearly two hours I spent on the phone calling our health insurance company, the kid's sinus surgeon, different radiology practices trying to schedule CT scans for her and understand why certain surgical procedures were being denied and what information could be provided so we wouldn't have to push back her surgery at the end of the month. This comes after yesterday when I missed most of work day taking her for dental work with the added complication of needing oral sedation and nitrous.
The sinus surgery is recommended bc she has recurrent sinus infections triggered by allergies. Everyday is a battle - do I push the allergy medicine or do I endure her shitty attitude about taking? Mostly, I push the medicine, but even so she rarely takes everything she's supposed to as directed (two meds in the AM and one in the PM). I keep a pillbox for her and set it out daily at breakfast, and keep the nighttime med in her bathroom. They're always within reach and ready for her.
She went away to camp last summer and she said her allergies were much better; shocking since her camp has no AC in the cabins, only screens in place of windows. She's allergic to mold, dust, tree, and pollen so you would think living in such conditions for weeks would make her worse; still, not enough to convince her that taking her meds keeps her symptoms at bay. The dentist ... she refuses adult toothpaste; she doesn't like the taste of mint. And, yes, I know all about the prescription toothpaste, and the kid toothpaste with the fun, fruity flavors. I don't believe the kid toothpaste to be as effective she needs as our family is prone to cavities (she's already had 3 extractions and two crowns). She refuses to floss, again because of the mint. Where does she get her cavities? In between her teeth. How to avoid? Flossing! We've used floss with and without wax, mint, cinnamon, fruit flavors, no flavors. Always a battle. These procedures alone will cost me over $5k and in my mind they are preventable expenses.
Looking around at the mess, being met with requests for yet more stuff, exhausted from caretaking, bracing for the additional financial burden, I lost it. I didn't scream. I didn't call her names. But I was harsh. I told her I simply could not continue to do and be everything for and to her. I told her I didn't have the energy to nag her every day to pick up her socks, then her shoes, her backpack, to charge the laptop, to make all the lunches, to decide what goes in the lunch (and breakfast and dinner). I told her that I some days I was so tired I didn't hold her accountable because I didn't want to deal with her and attitude. I told her I was angry, that I feel like I can't have a life because she wants constant entertainment from me, and if not that, then I'm too busy driving her to sports practices and parties, not able to make my own plans. She acts sad and hurt if I leave for a few hours to go to the grocery store and run errands on Sunday afternoon, but bitches if I make her come. I feel bad when I do leave her and those are things that need doing. Idk how I could ever feel okay leaving her to do something like go on a date or to take myself to a movie. I feel trapped by her and unless I'm buying her things or entertaining her, ignored. I was awful to her. Those are my feelings but I know I shouldn't have said those things out loud to her.
So what I came here to ask: are my expectations too high? Is it unreasonable to expect she keep up with those chores, take medicine as directed and brush teeth? Her school doesn't give homework, so that's not taking her time. I don't know how to get through to her.
Please don't come at me with any "she didn't ask to be born" comments or tell me what an awful parent I am. I've already done an outstanding job of beating myself up.

We gave our notice of moving out on the 15th of October. Our one year lease was up the 1st of November and it becomes a month-to-month lease after that. We attempted to leave by the 31st of October because of the electric issues. But the manager told us we need to give a written 30 day notice so, we followed protocol and filed that notice on the 15th of October. The manager never notified us that we were required to pay for the month of November rent or regarding a late fee. Because of this I don’t think I should be paying for the whole month’s rent or the late fee especially since we did not stayed for the whole month of November. I want to make sure it is clear the reason I move out is because of the daily power outages that we have been dealing with since November 11th 2021 - we moved in November 1st 2021. We notified the manager on site. In reference to "California Tenant Guide" Page 34 Tenant's basic legal rights, Page 47 Repairs and Habitability, and Page 48 Conditions that make a rental unit legally uninhabitable. Additionally, we were never given written notice regarding the rent increase. Per our contract the rent was $1,370.00 and on October 26th I noticed on the app where I can pay the rent, the rent was increased $100. Legally we need top be given 30 day notice regarding a rent increase - which was never given. In reference to "California Tenant Guide" Page 49 Rent increase; notice and effective date. When I notice the rent increase I sent a text message to the manager but she never responded.
Now the rent payment plus the repair payments together are now under collections. I did sent an email with screenshots of the conversations and the proof about the unexpected raise to the real estate company as well as the collections but I didn't receive any emails/updates. Did I do something wrong? Is it too late for me to fix this? I would like to seek an consultation from a Lawyer but I have no idea where to start with this.

So I have a VW passat cc 2010, 3.6 4motion.
I bought it at 70k miles from a “car enthusiast” now it’s sitting at 78k. Ever since I got it, my biggest issue with it is that the cabin is extremely hot under the sun here in SoCal, and I don’t really know abt cars so I just brushed off that my AC takes long to cool down. Now, It’s annoying tf outta me so I replaced the cabin and hood filters. Checked the pressure of the low pressure line with a refrigerant can, showed 70 PSI(i know this number should be taken lightly) and im taking my car on monday to get it out and recharge it. Also I looked at the compressor clutch and it spins no matter what, did some research and it’s common for this model to have a compressor without a clutch if that makes sense, correct me if i’m wrong. I’m only here for piece of mind and understanding how the AC system works bc ive thrown about a day of researching into it.
My question is, will the low pressure line turn cold when i blast the AC IFFF the compressor is messed up. I tested it this morning and it was pretty cold when I turn on the AC so does this mean my compressor is fine or that happens regardless.
Also checked my low pressure with my car off and it showed the pressure in the red at around 120? psi. which to me means that the compressor is working bc it’s regulating the pressure.
Any thoughts or comments? (important to note that at night the AC is cold on its own, during the day it doesn’t cool down on idle, i only waited about 5-10 minutes but when i drive on the freeway it cools down really quick)

Its not just dell and im far from the first to complain about this— but why? Seriously, why? Smart people — at least some — have had to be involved. My old 2010 xps 15 had a much more comfy front edge (and i know it was overall bulky, but still). Appearance is the obvious answer but what else would lead a laptop designer to create discomfort for palms (and yes i realize it depends on the angle of your arms, but still)? Would a slight curvy bevel make manufacturing more expensive bc = less straight lines? And maybe not enough people care enough to not buy? And maybe they think a more perfect wedge is easier to slip into bags? And maybe the head of Ergonomics isn’t as charming or attractive as the brand manageart director? What other laptop brands focus more on practical tactile ergonomic experience?? Design attractiveness is really important… for like five days… and then we’re living w thing. And yeah, I know by that point they have your money yada yada, but still. Its gotta be more than that. They want people to enjoy their product.
