Here’s just a quick one off the top of my head.
Dexter and Harrison end up escaping to LA. They think all is well, and they walk into a house that they are thinking about buying. Then, around the corner comes Batista, gun drawn. Harrison says "Dad, who the fuck is that?!?" Dexter reassures him and tries to be calm and happy to see Batista. Angel says "Dexter Morgan, you are under arrest for the murder of Maria LaGuerta and for the Bay Harbor Butcher murders." Dexter tries to diffuse the situation, but Batista goes to cuff him. Harrison grabs his rifle from the truck, comes in, and shoots Angel. Angel goes down, Dexter rushes towards Harrison to tell him to put the gun down, and a shot rings out. Batista has shot Dexter. He says some final words. Then Harrison and Dex get to have a goodbye. Harrison takes Dexter's body, finds a boat to hotwire, and takes his body out to sea to dump it like Deb and so many others were. Harrison looks out over the water just like Dex used to. Then we see him drive the boat through the bay while that song Conoci La Paz plays, just like it did in the first episode. We get a final inner monologue from either Harrison or Dexter, and the series ends.
Certainly not the best ending, but how would you do it?

After rewatching the 3 seasons of the anime a few times and absolutely loving it, I've made the decision to read the source material starting with the very first chapter. I have just finished the challenger finale with Taichi losing to Arata in the goofiest way possible and would now like to voice some complaints about the post-season 3 era of the story. If it's okay with you of course.
I have read some discussions and will attempt not to be repetitive with my points.

1. The first years. With Taichi going on what is stylized to be his villain arc and Chihaya going on a study spree to cope with her feelings, the new first years are given a challenge to become memorable and exciting while all that other incredible and exciting stuff is already going on around them. And boy did they not deliver. There are 4 new characters but for the purposes of the narrative they act like 2 characters: Tamaru and generic first-years (GFY). Sure they all have quirks to be distinguishable but not one of them has a compelling journey or a goal.

The first conflict that GFY face is not vibing with the karuta club and it is solved with the seniors just talking to them, there are no interesting one-on-one interactions here like there were with the construction of the OG club (Chihaya learning to see poems as colourful from Kana for example), it is delivered as a series of short comedic sketches. And that's because they are not individual characters, they are a representation of a group.
And Tamaru's arc was about not requiring the praise of others I think?
To see this point clearly, compare how Tsukuba and best girl Sumire were introduced to how the GFY are. There is an obvious discrepancy in depth.

1. Karuta matches.

Now, this is something that was a problem with the manga from the beginning. Here is how a match between character A and character B would go: Character A takes a card; the spectators: "OMG A IS GOING TO WIN"; B has a revelation in their inner monologue and take a card; the spectators: "OMG SINCE WHEN IS B SO STRONG MAYBE THEY WILL WIN"; A has a different revelation and take a card; repeat; Now, of course there are matches where the tactics are very interesting (Harada vs Suou), where every take is an emotional rollercoaster (Taichi vs Chihaya) or where the whole thing is just poetic to the bone (Harada vs Arata), but that is not the case with filler tournament matches. They are a massive yawn. I cannot be expected to be excited over a bunch of chapters about the new hokou team most of which I don't care about, the new fujisaki team most of which I don't care about and Arata's team which consists of people I could not care less about.
It's just a bunch of characters I don't know competing in generic matches (though there were some funny moments). And worst of all, I have no investment in who wins. In second year it was Mizusawa's dream to be the strongest in japan, a dream they worked through blood sweat and tears to achieve, so of course I was invested.
Here I was just waiting for more Taichi and Suou content.

1. Suou and Shinobu

Oh, this one isn't a complaint. The author ansolutely killed it with these two, absolute perfection.

1. Dirty tricks

This is a segway to the Taichi vs Arata match.
So, Taichi learns from Suou a lot of things: incredible perception, feints, detachment, fun. These are his weapons with which he manages to breeze through the challenger qualifier matches. But in his match against Arata he considers them off limits. Nishida even says something to the effect of "we want Arata to see us, real us, no dirty tricks or anything". Taichi doesn't use feints, doesn't try to mess with Arata starting with the second match and is not detached. Like bro.
Harada has bad hearing and uses different techniques to compensate for it, those are not considered dirty tricks. Arata doesn't have extraordinary hearing and so uses cross sweeps, those are not considered dirty tricks. So why does Mashima feel the need to abandon all of his weapons to play "true" karuta? Makes me mad.

1. The incredibly goofy Taichi loss.

What I find hillarious about his loss is that during the second game he decides that "winning cannot not matter" and that he will play Harada's karuta. In any other circumstance, heck, in any shounen manga this would be the moment where he strengthens his resolve and gains an unforseen power boost. But instead he just starts panicking and sweating and stuttering and losing by 18 cards. Goofiest stuff I've read in a while.
But on a more serious note, Taichi 100% should have a skill on par with Arata. He was able to completely toy with Sudou, controlling the game completely. He had very close two matches with Arata. I find it rediculously contrived that he just decides to not use his strongest weapons and play bad. That's literally what happens, he decides to play bad and loses. From a narrative standpoint it would also be more interesting if Taichi won, at the very least because he is a much more interesting character and because Arata could use a massive setback like that for character development (which is nonexistant as it stands now).

1. Nothing exciting happens

Harada's path to challenging Suou is one of my favourite arcs in fiction. Nothing that grandiouse happens after Taichi's confession.
On a more personal note, I am greatly saddened that best girl Sumire doesn't have much to do. She is still only enamoured by Mashima (as we can see from her talk with Mamashima). Like, girl, find a new target or become a rock star or date Nishida idk. Do something. Oh, and Kana's dream of becoming a reader has evaporated too it seems.
--‐------------- Sorry for the long post, it seems I got really frustrated and disappointed.
TL;DR

1. The new characters are a yawn, have no journey and are not built up like previous first years were.
2. The national tournament is overshadowed by Taichi's arc and there is no good reason to care about its outcome. The matches are repetitive and formulaic, the characters uninteresting.
3. Shinobu and Suou's arcs are perfection.
4. Taichi learns a lot of techniques but dismisses them as dirty tricjs for no apparent reason. Btw, shouldn't feints be considered even harder that normal karuta if anything?
5. Mashima gets a stereotypical shounen boost (for no good reason btw) just to revert to a blabbering baby in the third match.
6. Nothing grand happens. OG characters are left behind. Like, imagine Chitose learning karuta and becoming queen before Chihaya (joking).

My Little Pony: Roleplay is Magic is a game on Roblox centered around My Little Pony. It was created November 11, 2012, and is arguably one of the better RP games for MLP on Roblox.
So, here's a um... Dumb little documentary about it!
The moderation team and staff, alongside some of the player base is a solid 4/10. I was surprised on how many pedophiles I caught on the game, and predation in general is rather common on the game as well. Very much to my dismay, I watched a 19 year old flirt with an 11 year old out of character, and the 19 y/o didn't seem to care about the fact he was flirting with a minor. This post goes more in depth about the pedophilia and corrupt moderation in the game, as I'd rather not repost something completely equal to another's post. As the post says, the main issue within the development team (Sun) was removed from the team.
The map is rather well-made, although not the best thing I've seen in the world. My only distaste for the map is the fact it doesn't feature the OLD changeling hive and the tree of harmony- Due to the fact Twilight's castle is an active place in the map. Although I believe that an "Old" version of the landmarks is past due, it would make the game much more enjoyable. The map is very clearly unfinished, lacking Manehattan, Dragon's lair, Los Pegasus, San palomino, and many more. However, it does have the main attractions of the MLP series, such as Ponyville, Canterlot, the Crystal Empire, Cloudsdale, Everfree forest, and the Wonderbolt Academy, opening up possibilities for some nice roleplays.
The pony. If you join the Roleplay is Magic group, you can create a custom pony! Yet, let's talk moreso about the build of the pony and the way your pony looks. The walking animation is barely an animation- You shuffle across the floor, and "Running" is just shuffling faster. "Holding" items is sticking them out into the distance, and there are eyes and face emotes available. On pegasi, the flapping animation is also rather rigid, resulting in an up and down jerking movement. The unicorn seems to be the least embarrassing pony of them all, having colored magic and a working teleport function. Unfortunately (Yet understandably) ponies like King Sombra, Princess Celestia, and Princess Luna do not have animated manes and tails.
On custom ponies, you can choose between male and female, multiple different species, pegasus, unicorn or earth pony (Alicorn not enabled on customs for obvious reasons) alongside shapes like bulky, skinny, elderly, etc. You can select an assortment of different manes, tails, eyes, markings, and accessories, alongside giving your pony's coat, eyes, mane and tail creative, different colors. This is also the case with accessories and markings, alongside one of the game's other gamepasses- Buddies. You can spawn a morph of yours in to spawn in a little buddy of yours who'll follow every movement you do! Not the most realistic thing in the world, but it works.
Canon ponies are sorted between free and VIP; VIP players can select any pony/pony variant with a purple background; Whereas people without the VIP gamepass cannot select anything aside from ponies with a blue background. The canon ponies look rather good, although some ponies lack certain details, and there's a lack of ponies that make the world of Equestria work (Such as Guard variants, which could be free to play.) I've noticed that very few ponies have animated assets, such as Celestia and Luna's hair sparkling, and sombra's purple smoke.
Now, the part we've all been waiting for- Or dreading, the Roleplay compartment of this game. Funnily enough, there's in insane lack of public roleplays, the game being (For the most part) a chatroom aside from some younger children roleplaying as the mane six. Despite this, I've witnessed a couple of roleplays, be it with original characters, that seemed genuinely interesting.
Now, this part. "Should my kid play this game?" No. Why? I don't believe any child under 13 should roleplay. I think roleplaying, especially at a very young age on a game where romance could possibly spark between characters (Such as roleplays as Shining Armor and Princess Cadence) could be potentially damaging. Even though the game seems harmless, people on the game might not be as harmless as the game itself. I believe there's an acute lack of moderation, and I've noticed that the moderators seem too interested in talking to players on the game than taking care of people who are actively breaking rules.
Although the game could be considered one of the better roleplay games on Roblox for MLP, I definitely wouldn't go as far as to say it's a 100% safe game for kids to play. Again, some predators tend to get on games for kids under the pretense they could find a potential victim. Although this is the case for all multiplayer games, MLP:RiM has an active past of it.
I say to anyone who knows better than to trust random people on the internet (AKA Not kids) the game is pretty decent, and it has a fairly straightforward customization feature. The roleplays are (usually) innocent, and players are usually accepting and kind.
TL;DR: Good game, but pedos are likely to target you if you're a kid

A Brief Review of Trails into Reverie: Daydreams Part Four byu/ACertainThrowawayTag inFalcom

Through Memories Aglow- Beautiful. Perhaps a tad short, but still. It closes off a lot of the open ends that Cold Steel IV left, and it's such a nice little ending to the story. Fitting that it's the last one we unlock. Seeing how Osborne rationalised, mourned, and hoped that he would be surpassed almost, was touching. He's still, of course, a villain. But he's also such an interesting and complex man that I can't help but feel sad for the position he was forced into in life. Rean's attempts to honour his legacy are also touching here, and I think finally seeing the monologue and a small slither of the world as he saw it is the best way to say goodbye. I teared up a few times, that final photograph almost got me weeping.
NOTE: The Following Two Daydreams were played following the conclusion of the Trails into Reverie postgame.
Look Back to Look Forward- Not the longest, but WOW. Gramheart's a problem, huh. So much information (the mysterious company, McBurn's memories, what the Eternal Recurrence Plan even entails), and no answers. This just gets me even more pumped for Daybreak. God I'm so excited.
Beyond the Reverie- Part One- Another Hot Springs Paradise Oh hey, strange white-haired swordswoman we don't know. I wonder if you'll be important in Calvard? (I already know her, but still). Really nice short story with some pretty vivid language in place of the normal visuals of the game, as well as some pretty cool effects in the fight scenes. Not the best of the Daydreams so far, but a really interesting look into the coming future of the series. That Rean could get defeated, even in his enlightened form, shows how powerful our new friend/foe is. I can't wait to properly meet her. Also the rematch duel when it inevitably happens is going to be so hype.
Part Two- An Unconventional Student The last time Renne was a main character was Zero. That she's part of the main cast, or at least the 'important' cast of Daybreak as far as I can tell, is fucking awesome. I'm so glad we get to see her again, and without Estelle and Joshua as well. More appearances from the best character in the series is always welcomed in my book after all.
Beyond that, this Daydream is awesome. Renne growing up, the drama at school, her meeting with a certain female student, and so on. Renne's meeting with said student is great, especially. The story of how Renne's attempts at being unassuming eventually lead to her taking the most important position at the school is quite amusing as well, and it's a good story nonetheless. A few interesting characters introduced here as well, Dingo and the blonde student. This might be my favourite, or if not then one of my favourites, amongst all the Daydreams. Really good stuff. Also the bit of art with Renne and her scythe near the end is truly incredible. A few interesting characters introduced here as well
Part Three- Forward, Sword in Hand The first Daydream about an entirely new character- not the protagonist of the next game, mind, but someone else- Elaine Auclair. I find that idea in of itself fascinating. As for the Daydream, another incredible little story. I don't know much, if anything, about these characters or what they're going to face, and yet I still felt a lot of emotions. Saddness, anger, a hit of shock at the main drama of the daydream with the kids, and further still, excitement that this is the quality of writing I have to look forward to in the next games.
The bit where Elaine describes how she defeats a group of mobsters in detail (one down, two down, etc) was amazing, almost makes me wish that these writers also did Light Novels and stuff like that as well. I'd definitely read them. As well as that, the generally more dark and gruesome parts of this Daydream (the description of what happened to the mobsters) implies that perhaps some more of those elements will be present in Daybreak. I welcome this, I don't want the series to be come a grimdark edgefest or something, but after Cold Steel and to a certain extent Crossbell and Sky, some more intense storytelling would be a nice change of pace.
I know I said it before, but I can't wait. Elaine seems like, such a fascinating character, just like a certain childhood friend who may or may not be the protagonist of the next arc of the series. Whatever it is, I'm so excited for Daybreak. July 5th can't come soon enough.
Beyond The Beyond- The grandmaster holds all the threads of fate, and those narrative words at the beginning and end, seemingly said by her directly (I wish they'd been voice acted), point to a few ideas I've had about the series and her role in it. But I don't have the vocabulary or enough information to vocalise them directly.

I was totally blown away. I really enjoyed the first 2 books but NEVER did I think we could lose like half of the main characters, get POVs from characters I previously did not give one single shit about (hi Vincent) and it would be SO engrossing and fun to read
No disrespect to SJM but the 2nd CC book made me never want to read another multiple POV book ever again and yet here we are?? Camilla may actually be my favorite character now. I was begging Samkiel not to kill Isaiah?? I was literally making excuses for Vincent in my head as he was chopping off Camilla’s fucking HANDS. Like I don’t even hate Kaden now?? Who am I to begrudge a man for his daddy issues and his fear of the dark! Truly I never once groaned at the POV switch like I usually do with these books, and this one was 800 PAGES my god what a triumph that is
Things I also loved: Dianna being her usual messy bitch self, so great. Samkiel holding her accountable then immediately caving (and I do mean immediately), very on brand. All of the new characters and realms and species and plot lines- YES baby give me more creatures we’ve never seen and new worlds please it’s so good
Things I loved less: if I’m being honest- the wedding was cheesy. Is this a safe space?? I cringed a lot and was happy when it was over. ALSO the inner monologuing between Samkiel and Dianna about aspects of their relationship we are all very clear on was WHEW. Sam bud we get that Dianna doesn’t want to lose you because of Gabby and commitment issues and Kaden and blah blah I promise we all have heard and understand at this point
Honestly overall I was just so into this book. I’m dying to know what happens next with Death. I NEED our bad bitch witch Camilla to break Nismera’s spell/hold over Vincent. I’m so invested in the sibling dynamics of Samkiel/Kaden/Isaiah. And Cameron and Xavi?? My babes I am dying for the reunion. PLUS more gods?! Rebel gods?? Hot, obviously, and now I also see why this will be a 7 book series.

Michael crawled over the broken windshield glass and sandy dirt to his girlfriend, Sam. Every breath he took was labored as he inched over to her, he distantly felt the pain. He knew he had broken most of his ribs, his legs, and most of the bones in his left arm, but that was nothing compared to the injuries she had sustained being on the passenger side when it was struck.
Sweat mixed with the blood on his forehead, dripping into and making his eyes sting. Her breathing was becoming more and more shallow, as desperation welled in his mind. Their twisted wreck that was some distance away began to smoke, before flames began to lick from the inside of the hood.
“If any gods or demons can hear me, I beg of you, please. Please spare her life.” He hoarsely whispered. “I’ll give you anything, everything, just please. She has children who need her more than they need me.”

Michael began to pass out, his vision slowly fading.
As the last rays of light hit his eyes, he saw her wounds closing to heal. His eyes rolled back.

He was standing somewhere. Somewhere? It was a void, neither light, nor dark, but –NULL–. He could still see himself, his hand in front of his face, wearing the same long black shirt and black cargo pants, despite the apparent lacking of light. He didn’t hurt anymore.
“Greeting [Godsmarked]. I am here to give you your training.”
Directly to his right, a few feet away from him, was a figure clad entirely in deep purple robes. Their hands were clothed in stunningly white gloves, while their hood obscured any attempts to discern the face inside.
“So, a god or multiple gods heard my offer, and took me up on it. I suppose I am here to render my payment,” Michael mused. “I’ll cry later for what I sacrificed on that altar. Who are you, and what do I need to train for?”
“I am Estoc, [Servant] of the Divines. You are being given training on how to utilize the most common magical elements of the plane you are being transported to, for the gods own amusement or some grander purpose. Who can say which one it is?” Estoc said as they shrugged, while their robe shifted shades of purple.
“Please be aware, this process may sting. The last [Godsmarked] complained quite loudly.” Estoc waved their hand, and Michael hissed with a sharp intake of air as if the crown of his skull were branded with an iron.
“The knowledge you have gained will give you the intrinsic ability to will a Status Window into being. This Status Window will display your classes, titles, certain physical attributes, injuries, magical power, and any skills gained from classes or titles. As you use this Status Window, you will grow in familiarity with its function, but all sapient beings of this realm are able to utilize this function from early childhood.
Classes represent pathways that grant access to active and passive skills over the course of a person’s development, representing their personal specialties and the applications of those specialties. Each adult has at least one class, and the limit is five, though as classes level up and synergies develop, classes may merge to become new classes opening up additional slots, as well as prompting the selection of a replacement class.
You are being transported to the realm of Tillania.
Good luck on your journey, Michael Judge.” Estoc tilted their head to the side as though listening to something, and in a lower register said, “Sam Iron will make a full recovery in the hospital.”
Michael dropped his chin to his chest, sniffed, and a tear rolled down his cheek. He sighed, and looked back up, only to see that Estoc was gone. He wiped his face, and steeled himself for the possibilities.

Michael stared at the screen and let his thoughts wander over why these were his choices. The fungus mage felt a little on the nose, he had been devoted to a decentralized religion that revered psilocybin as its sacrament, and experimented with his own. The Soldier was from his time in the Army. Trader from working a certain general store chain with the word “Dollar” in it when he was young and poor. Priest was from his time studying religion and coaching others. Medic from his time working in the hospital as a laboratory technician, and in the army with a medical brigade support battalion.
He didn’t want to be a priest, or a fungus mage, at least not at first. Soldier, while useful, didn’t lend itself to the role he wanted to see himself in. But necromancy? He thought it over some more as to why that was the case.
The modern concept of necromancy involved raising the dead, zombies, skeletons, ghouls, disturbing the dead. The classical concept, however, was involved with any magic associated with dead flesh, including magic meant to investigate health conditions or divine futures from stool, skin, muscle tissue, urine, or blood. He had been steeped in tabletop roleplaying games, as well as classical myths of the various kinds of undead, and the various kinds of necromancers. It would seem, then, that this world would occasionally have to deal with the existence of undead. If that were the case, he thought that he might have a better time being able to sell himself as an expert on preventing and exorcising them. He had always been in love with the idea of the undead, though he thought that it would probably be more socially acceptable if he didn’t create any.
As to the other class? He felt most at home being able to treat others.

Michael thought about it. He would bring his laptop, cellphone, solar chargers and batteries. He knew it would be a long while before they could be repaired if they were ever damaged, but some utility was better than no utility, and out of curiosity he had previously downloaded a number of technical medical manuals from the time that he wanted to pursue a doctorate in pathology, as well as the children’s book “The way it works” which described the other areas of machines he wasn’t familiar with in an easily digestible format.
With any luck, and enough time, he might run into an engineer that might enjoy having access to that information. If there was other magic in this world he might be able to trade access to it for various repairs. Or, perhaps he would get around to finally tinkering himself, he wasn’t closing himself off to any options.
An SAS survival book with many different handy tips and tricks for wilderness survival. Various tools, a hammer, a machete, a first aid kit and a repurposed fishing box he filled with various medicines for most common ailments. A pocket survival kit including a ferrite rod and various other small tools. A flashlight that had a solar charger as well as a crank charger with charging ports.
He was surprised to see that it also included items that he was no longer certain as to where they were. He had owned a 50-pound draw weight compound bow some time ago that was left with a family member, as well as twenty barbed hunting arrows. It was given to him as a gift from his father and grandfather, though he never really was a fan of hunting. He stimmed, shaking his hand and striking his thumb against his middle and forefinger while he thought, before moving to the other hand stimulation exercises he did whenever he got excited or deep in thought.
Finally the water backpack, rucksack, treatment tabs, and a few old army uniforms that still fit would round out the space. Previously, he had been concerned that his job really didn’t assist him with maintaining a healthy weight, but if this was going where he anticipated it might, his extra bulk would serve him well until he could become better established.

He exhaled, his finger hovering over the [CONFIRM] button. “Only worry about the things in your control. I guess now is a good a time as any to have my agoge.”

He pressed the button. His vision was filled, piece by piece with his new location, though he didn’t feel himself moving. As the last piece fell into place, he could hear, and feel, the wind over the grass of the hilly plains. It was evening, and he measured the daylight remaining using his hand. He had a little over an hour and a half before sunset.
The whole area looked similar to the semi-arid environment of the hilly grasslands of western Kansas. If that was the case, he wondered to himself if this place was also a hellscape where the local flora and fauna rely on a steady stream of wildfires to maintain the ecosystem. The grass came up to his knees and his waste, which he didn’t particularly enjoy. The sturdy stems were always difficult to sleep on, from his experience with the army. Not to mention what could be hiding in the grass.
… Hiding in the grass? He willed his [Lifesight] to become active and his vision became frantically populated with green profiles. He shut his eyes, willing [Lifesight] to have a few parameters. He could see a status window behind his eyelids. It felt like mentally right-clicking a skill and opening the properties menu.

He opened his eyes. This time he wasn’t as bombarded with information. He’d have to keep this on a toggle, or with only one eye. Now he didn’t have to worry about bugs filling his vision with a sea of green. He did however, notice a few red outlines hovering slowly over the ground spaced out here and there. He could also see yellow outlines buried in the ground here and there.
He toggled [Lifesight] off. It was useful to scan the area but he was still getting used to the information overload and he still had other more pressing issues to investigate.
Could he equip things directly from his status window? It took a few tries, but yes. He could will it, or he could open up an Equipment screen and mentally drag and drop an item where it should go. He equipped his uniform, boots, and his floppy red wide brimmed hat with a mushroom theme that came to a rearward facing conical tip. He also took out his sunscreen and drank a sip of water from his wearable water pouch.
What information is revealed by [Triage]? He tried it on himself while keeping his status sheet open. [Triage]: (Target: Michael Judge; Health: 100% ; Conditions: [None]; Injuries: None.) His Status Window still displayed the conditions of [Well-Fed] and [Well-Rested]. He took out a knife, rolled back his sleeve, and made a small cut on the top of his arm. A little blood flowed as he did. The [Triage] and Status Sheet both updated. [Triage]: (Target: Michael Judge; Health: 98% ; Conditions: [None]; Injuries: Cut {Posterior Arm, 5 cm.) He held his hand over his arm as a light sweat began to form on his forehead from the sun. An ocean blue glow spread from his palm, as he willed the wound to close up like a zipper. He felt a small drain on his magic, and confirmed that indeed, his magic had dropped by 5%. There was no indication that there had ever been a wound on his skin. He summoned a notepad and pen, noting the information, before willing it back into his inventory.
Next, he used [Hematology] on the blood for a Complete Blood Count. He felt a much stronger pull on his magic than with [Triage]. He confirmed that indeed, his magic had dipped to 50%. He made a note of it as well as what the CBC provided: WBC Count, RBC count, RBC morphology, WBC differential, platelet count and morphology.
He took out a small umbrella and started walking, occasionally flipping [Lifesight] on and off. He manifested [Black Bolt] as he walked, holding it in his right hand. His magic had dipped by 10%, but would recover the used 10% when he stopped manifesting it. Only by actually throwing it did the mana stay consumed. More and more interesting, He thought. After about 40 minutes of walking, he discovered a well-trodden path, with tell-tale wagon ruts and horse dung that was neither fresh nor completely dry. He couldn’t see any smoke on the horizon, so it was likely more than 20 miles to the next settlement. He picked a direction and started walking that way.
As the sun dipped below the horizon he was left with a question. Would he camp, or keep walking through the dark? It’s not like things could sneak up on him at night if they were coming from somewhere he could see.
He kept walking, following the road by twilight, and then moonlight. He paused, however, when he saw a moderately red outline hunched over on the road in front of him. It had to be just within 500m of him. Michael materialized his bow and an arrow, nocking it, and approaching quietly.
250 meters. 200. 150. Lips smacked, cartilage crunched, wet and sticky, as it murmured and growled with hunger. 125. 100. His boot clattered a rock.
The munching stopped. Glowing yellow eyes piercing the dark. It walked on all fours. All sixes? 75. 60. 50. It stood on its back legs, growing taller and taller as it stretched its back, sniffing the air. Rotting scales. Exposed bones. Viscera exposed with fresh meat oozing from its ruptured stomach. Elongated face like a monitor lizard. And as the breeze blew through the grass, Michael realized he had made a critical mistake.
He was upwind.
With a nasty series of clicks, it charged forward. 40. He was shaking, pulling back the bowstring. 15. He couldn’t get a clear shot, its gait was serpentine! 5!
[SANCTUARY ACTIVATED]

Always a fun exercise, feel free to choose your own formation (4-3-3 for me) -
GK - Brad Friedel: Younger generation doesn't put enough respect on this guy's name. Friedel was an absolute STUD at the peak of his powers. I know some folks will have Keller or Howard, but for me, it's Friedel, and it's not close.
RB - Steve Cherundolo: You don't get a nickname like "The Mayor of Hannover" without a good reason. Locked down the right side, and was a wall at his peak for us. I still remember the 2011 Gold Cup like it was yesterday; we raced out to a 2-0 lead, only for Dolo to come off with an injury. All went to shit after...
CB - Carlos Bocanegra: O' Captain my captain. Boca could have slotted in at LB or CB, but given some of the other talent, I have him here. I think, without a doubt, his leadership is vital for any side, but that's not all he had. Great organizer, communicator, reader, and physically imposing. Our most important defender we've ever had, IMO.
CB - Eddie Pope: Another one of the old guard. Pope was a physically dominant CB who could play more of that sweeper-esque role with Boca being the ball playing CB. Great in the air, and will NOT be muscled off the ball, Pope makes it over some other solid options, but for good reason.
LB - Jedi Robinson: For those clamoring for DMB, with him having played so much of his career as a LW, I don't think his twilight years, no matter how good, outweigh what Jedi has done thus far. Plus, for the sake of balance, with Dolo being a more defensive FB, I think the athleticism that Jedi offers is a huge plus. In addition, NO other defender we've had has come close to the highs we've seen out of Jedi this past year. Easy choice IMO
6 - Michael Bradley: Many remember Klinsmann playing him as a 10 in the 4-4-2 diamond, but he was wasted there IMO. Bradley could ping the ball to anyone on the pitch from deep. I know he's memed a lot by newer fans, but the truth is, before this generation, Bradley was one of our most successful players ever. Hit a shot from deep, make a tackle in the final third, or play a through ball to unlock a defense, he was a threat.
8 - Claudio Reyna: How the mighty have fallen. It's important to separate the player from the person, and Claudio, as a player, was ELITE. Probably more of a 10 a la his son, I think his place in the team is pretty uncontroversial. Really think that he was our first real "Technical" player in the mold of more skilled 10s we had seen across the globe. Shame he was injured so frequently, I have a feeling that we could have seen him reach higher highs than he achieved.
8 - Weston McKennie: Let's get this out of the way. Wes is young, and maybe some other folks think an older player may deserve it, but how many players have we EVER had that have led the Serie A in assists for a club the size of Juventus? None. I get that this season is just that, one season, but his highs have been great for club. And, yes, his lows have been low. In this XI, what Wes brings is that "Maverick" ability where you don't know what he'll do next. This likely my most controversial pick, but dammit give me Wes in this XI!
LW - Christian Pulisic: Not much needs to be said. Puli is the most expensive American ever, and for good reason. He's achieved more at club level than any American has in history. One of the first names on the team sheet.
RW - Landon Donovan: Another name that picks itself. LD has the record for most assists by ANYONE in international soccer, at the moment (Neymar is only one off). He was our first international superstar. And, yes, his off the field stuff (My other team is Mexico, Pulisic should come to MLS, etc) are pretty moronic, but again, the player was next level.
ST - Clint Dempsey: First, yes, I know Deuce wasn't an out and out ST, however, there is no way I'm leaving him out of this XI. Accomplished across England, and our country's joint top scorer, Clint was a freaking dynamo. And, honestly, my favorite player to have ever watched for us. His unique path to getting to where he went is the stuff of Hollywood (although they'd butcher the shit out of any biopic), and I think rounds out a very good starting XI.
Bench: Kasey Keller, John Brooks, Sergino Dest, Chris Richards, Tyler Adams, John O'Brien (healthy of course), Demarcus Beasley, Stu Holden (healthy of course), Eric Wynalda, Brian Mcbride, Fabian Johnson, and Jermaine Jones

I did post this on the other Zelda subreddit a while back, and got accused of trolling, which kind of hurt tbh after playing Zelda games for over 25 years, and owning every physical copy (the CDi ones are reproductions though, cause... you've seen their cost). I think it's simply because my rankings are more unorthodox, but I have the arguments to back them up.
I'll do a slight, mostly spoiler-free description for every ranking, but if you want me to discuss any points in detail, I'll be happy to do it, even covering them up with the spoiler tag if needed (trust me I can talk for ages about every game lol). I'll add a spoiler flair just in case as future potential discussions might contain them.
Without further ado, here it is:

1. Tri-Force Heroes - This basically felt like a bad f2p mobile game, including repeating levels on the chance of getting incredibly overpowered items. It's also the least friendly to play singleplayer BY FAR. The reflexes needed to achieve some tasks is practically impossible, and boss battles become a lot more annoying with their length because you only one person to do everything. I did like the silly setting and the fashion designs though.
   
2. Link: The Faces of Evil - The CDi controls is the biggest flaw of it. I don't hate the console, but it only works for games where you can take your time with the controls such as point and click adventure games and other multimedia. It simply wasn't made for a more action-oriented game such as this. However, there is also the tiresome grinding aspect of getting all the bombs, ropes, lamp oil, and snowballs. It doesn't have that sense of adventure either as you gotta explore stuff out of order to find out what tasks to accomplish. It sounds fine, but with gameplay like this you just shudder at the thought of repeating some areas instead of that sense of escapism into the in-game world.
   
3. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - This is just a bad fanfic. However, it's the complexity of the combat that ruins it. You just do filler attacks while waiting for the rune logo to pop up. You then use the proper one, stun them, and them attack their weakness gauge. There's also hardly any enemy variety. It makes sense for botw as it's not combat-oriented, but in this when you gotta fight like 50 moblins with one mission it makes it by far the most repetitive game in the series.
   
4. Zelda's Adventure - The combat of this is atrocious. However, I loved some of the dungeon and enemy designs. I'd suggest looking it up, especially an interview of the enemy designer (I can link it if needed). There's a crystal and circus dungeon which looked cool, and one dungeon was you going through a sort of knight tournament that was full of friendly NPCs. Plus, one of the bosses is a werewolf jester that does cartwheels... come on that rules.
   
5. Zelda: Wand of Gamelon - This is the best one simply because I found that it had a lot less grinding without you needing snowballs. It felt easier to kill the bosses with the right items as well, but maybe it was just because I played this second, so I knew the gameplay style more?
   
6. Tingle's Balloon Fight - This DEFINITELY took advantage of the real estate of the DS. Making the levels vertical made the levels fantastic. However, it's 99 levels, and it's not in order of difficulty. You will get tired of it after a dozen or so. There is another mode that's like the NES version, but it's the most boring thing imaginable.
   
7. Four Swords - This was the one I had to play multiplayer with my partner. It's simply too much of a collectathon. However, the boss battles were fun.
   
8. Twilight Princess Picross - Do I really need to expand on this? It's picross! I do enjoy those puzzles, but I obviously get a lot more out of most Zelda games.
   
9. Link's Crossbow Training - This had massive potential to me. There are two stages that are fantastic in this which I won't spoil. However, I felt like a more "campaign" style game would have been a lot more effective to me. This is just 3 stages per level where you advance depending on your scores. Imagine if this did the same approach as the House of the Dead games.
   
10. Cadence of Hyrule - Crypt of the Necrodancer is a masterpiece to me. This one didn't feel as effective because after a while you find a ton of needed items, it becomes a joke difficulty wise. It didn't give that sense of a power fantasy that I don't mind in other games where this happens, so it all felt underwhelming.
    
11. Skyward Sword - This is something that I gotta do a more spoiler-heavy discussion, so I won't mention anything in-depth for now. I will say this: This jumps back and forth between being an incredible masterpiece, to the most absurd game design choices I've ever seen, back and forth so often that it was a very interesting game to play.
    
12. Oracle of Seasons - The dungeons didn't feel nearly as interesting as in Oracle of Ages. I didn't like that it didn't have a variety of settings for each dungeon, as you keep having to return to this one area after every dungeon. Plus, this has the most underwhelming bosses in the entire series. It makes sense if you've played the older Zelda games.
    
13. Hyrule Warriors - This also felt like a bad fanfic, but at least it was the insane kind. I mean, Cia? Especially with how some of those cutscenes are impressive. It was so strange to see that in a Zelda game, but hilarious. I preferred the gameplay of this over Age of Calamity. It is just mashing buttons, but the arcade-like nature and overall fast-pace of it made it quite fun.
    
14. Ancient Stone Tablets - This was a fantastic idea, and I love how there are fan restorations of how it was originally presentation. It also had some of the best minigames in the entire series. However, the dungeons simply suck. I think it's because they have an episodic format, so they have to make them simple, but having the hidden rooms visible when you get the map? What's the point?
    
15. Phantom Hourglass - I dunno if Linebeck counts as a companion, but if he does then he is easily the best one. The overall dungeon designs of this is great, and it uses the DS gimmicks in a very entertaining way. However, we all know the big flaw of this one...
    
16. A Link Between Worlds - There's a simple reason why I didn't love this as much as the other ones: the item rental system. It ruined the dungeons to me. I loved the formula of the dungeons from the other Zelda games. Only a few areas being accessible, the enemies being tougher to fight, and needing to kill the miniboss to finally get that item, where it completely opens up the dungeon. It's a satisfying experience. With this, you have the item already. Each dungeon only takes like 10-15 minutes, and that sense of satisfaction is all gone.
    
17. Wind Waker - This started out as a masterpiece, but it's the last third or so of the game that ruins it. The 2 dungeons with escorting being involved, and the infamous part. I did read that they had to sort of rush this game, so that explains why they had some of the worst filler.
    
18. Spirit Tracks - This felt the opposite. I HATED this game at first. You use the microphone so often which is incredibly unreliable. However, later on when you're not so dependent on that, the game is just fantastic. I loved the dungeon designs of these, being more puzzle-heavy, and honestly, the train stuff is fun. It's weird that they hated that stuff for the overworld, as other Zelda games, like the two boat ones, do something quite familiar. The overworld song helped quite a bit. It's one of the best tracks in the series.
    
19. BS Zelda - This is another one like Ancient Stone Tablets which has the fan restoration. It didn't feel like a romhack of A Link to the Past like Ancient Stone Tablets did, but rather a remaster of the first game. It's cool seeing the sprite design of the bosses. Plus, there's one track that was a robot rapping the plot of the first game over electronic-heavy funk music. It's about as awesome as it sounds.
    
20. Four Swords Adventures - This might have been a bias because this was a multiplayer game that not only didn't feel like suffering, but was very easy to play singleplayer in. I simply just had so much more fun with this than usual. It probably is a case of a overhyping, with that "FINALLY" sort of feeling, but hey that's how opinions work at times.
    
21. Twilight Princess - This felt like the safest entry in the franchise, and it takes too long for it to get started. I also found the in-game world to be way too huge in an underwhelming way. However, this easily has some of the best dungeons in the series. Once you reach the 2nd dungeon the game REALLY picks up. Only other flaw later on is that although some of those items are cool, they're practically useless outside of their respective dungeons.
    
22. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link - It's probably infamous having it here, It's simply because this has the most satisfying combat in the series. Figuring out the enemy patterns, and some of the very cool attacks you can eventually do. It is a meme, but it almost felt "proto-souls-like". I found that it didn't take too long to get the dungeons after game overs as well. With a few quality of life improvements, with stuff like getting rid of the limited lives, or the NES trends like enemies making you fall down cliffs mid-jump, this would have been a masterpiece.
    
23. The Legend of Zelda - This game had a fantastic pacing to it, and I found that it aged really well. The sense of adventure is still there, and I felt that sense of escapism. The dungeon designs are fun to still go through, which especially makes sense if you've played games like Binding of Isaac which made it seem fresh. This might be a boomer moment for me though. I'm not old enough for the NES days, but I did grow up playing the SNES, so I wouldn't mind game mechanics like this.
    
24. Oracle of Ages - Some of the hardest dungeons are here. If you're up for a challenge, this is the game to play. This improved Oracle of Seasons in almost every way. There are variety for the areas, but this also had some of the best boss battles in the series. I can go more into detail by entering spoiler territory, but they have very interesting ways of defeating the bosses that are unlike any other entry in the series.
    
25. Tingle Rosey Rupeeland - The postmodern Zelda game (not even the most postmodern in the series). First off, I should mention the company behind this. It's Vanpool, who used to be a company called Love-de-Lic, which came from employees of the company Square. The people that made this game have a connection to games such as Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, and Moon. The latter is impressive, because it was THE inspiration for Undertale. The sense of Undertale's subversion is apparent in this game as well. This has game design choices that you would never see in any other game. They are mostly surprises, so I won't mention them for now. However, the major flaw of this is that you don't know the value of items that you're buying or selling. I think you need a wiki for that to enjoy this game a lot more. The thing is, the concept of it makes sense if you go the more economic angle, with how greed in a capitalist society works. This could be more of an essay, and enters spoiler territory, but I'll gladly talk about it. Because of this, I have to respect that game design choice, even if I don't necessarily like it.
    
26. Majora's Mask - It's starting now where I have to be REALLY nitpicky, because they're all masterpieces. This felt like one of the "deepest" games in the series, and one of the most emotional. I even cried during the scene after the first dungeon. There are many interpretations as to what this game consists of, and I even came up with a few myself that I could discuss. My nitpicky thing is that there is a repetitive miniboss.
    
27. Breath of the Wild - I'll summarize this in one sentence for now, because this is something that I can lost in with discussing it. This is basically a Ubisoft game done right. That is a huge accomplishment.
    
28. Ocarina of Time - I didn't play this the most as a kid, but definitely the second most. I enjoyed its plot for how much it'll help kids, such as being the outsider like he was in the Kokori Forest wasn't a bad thing. The huge jump in difficulty with the dungeons after the first 3 makes sense when you consider the context of the plot at the time. Basically, this is the game where everything was done right, and I can't think of any major flaws.
    
29. Minish Cap - This is the perfect entry point of the series for newcomers as it's the most accessible one. The gimmick of this is absolutely fantastic, to the point that even with its one flaw (two underwhelming bosses), I still have to rank this above Ocarina of Time. Many of the items here were used in Skyward Sword, and it's hilarious how much better they are implemented here.
    
30. Tears of the Kingdom - Take Breath of the Wild, and improve it in nearly every aspect. I don't like to commit so many hours to video games, maybe it's the fact that I'm getting older and they can be too time consuming, but I put in over 100 hours into this. It's interesting through a game design standpoint, seeing how much they try to foolproof stuff, and let you explore how to accomplish tasks.
    
31. A Link to the Past - This was the one I played the most as a kid, and is one of the two first video games I've ever got my hands on (the other being Yoshi's Island). The big thing about this is that it established the Zelda formula that was used until Breath of the Wild, AND it already perfected it. That's just mindblowing.
    
32. Link's Awakening - This regards the Switch remake. It is subversive with how the plot plays out, and the graphics of the switch remake helps emphasize the true nature of its plot. It's also one of the "heaviest" games in terms of emotion, as it explores the true horror that all of us face at some point in our lives: existentialism. Take some of the most interesting dungeon designs that were still used in the Oracle games, yet somehow better implemented here, and you have the utmost masterpiece.
    
33. Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love - I assume this is why people though I was trolling, so I should talk more than usual about this entry before someone asks for me to go in-depth. Firstly, I have a tattoo of the 4 major characters of this game. The other thing is that point and click adventure games is my favourite video game genre, so it makes sense that I would really love this. However, this is also incredibly postmodern, AND a parody of not only many games, but game design choices. The places this goes, and the genres it does for a short amount of time, always kept this game incredibly interesting and fresh. It is insanity in the best way possible. It also has THE best plot of any Zelda game. Like it is leagues ahead of the others. I'll just summarize it like this: I HATED Tingle before playing this game. I wanted to make a very long YouTube video ranking the series before I lost interest in making videos and got too busy adulting, and I avoided this and the other Tingle on purpose, and only gave in when another ranked video came out including them. I watched a vinesauce compilation of this first. It was 20 minutes long, and after 8-9 minutes I knew I had to stop and immediately play this. What happened in the end? Tingle grew on me. I ended up loving him as a character. In fact, during an arc moment with him I had an incredibly emotional experience with it, and I even cried. Yes... Tingle made me cry. Doesn't that say enough? If you want to try something very different, borderline cozy at times, and don't mind the more absurdist sort of humour, I'm sure you would love this if you go in with an open mind. Or at the very least, check out that vinesauce compilation on youtube. Plus, like with Rosey Rupeeland, there is a social aspect to this if you end up analyzing it.

This post regards Equestrian Tales, my MLP swap AU! I will be releasing episode concepts a few at a time, and building on episodes that I feel require more attention independently.
So, let's start off!

Series 1, Chapter 1&2 - The Start of the Beginning

An obvious choice to start off with, this obviously replaces Friendship is Magic (part 1 and 2). Season 1 swaps with Season 9 in some regards, so this name looks like the names of the main story episodes of Season 9. Rarity, Luna's student, moves from Evershade (the Canterlot replacement) to Cloudopolis (the Ponyville replacement) to try to make friends, shortly before the Eclipse Festival. This is the 1000th year since Daybreaker was banished to the Sun, and it is prophesied that during the Eclipse Festival of this year, Daybreaker will return from the sun and bring about eternal day. (Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to make the double meaning of the original prophecy carry over into the swapped version.) Rarity meets the nerdy Twilight, honest Applejack, gentle Fluttershy, adventurous Rainbow Dash, and hyperactive Pinkie Pie. Anyway, Daybreaker returns, and the Mane 6 have to travel to the top of Cantermore Mountain, a cursed mountain with a ruined palace on it, to retrieve the Elements of Harmony (which, in their transformed states, take the form of the keys). Anyway. they revert Daybreaker to Celestia, who begins ruling Ponyland along with Luna from that point onwards.

Series 1, Chapter 3 - Pass for Class

So, the Grand Galloping Gala swaps with various events during the Hearth's Giving Festival, an autumn festival resembling Thanksgiving and otherwise inspired by Hearth's Warming Eve. Here, Rarity's generosity takes center stage, forming the core of the conflict of the episode. Rarity receives two passes to attend Luna's Festival events in Evershade, but all five of her friends want to go. Rarity befriends Stygian in this episode (who swaps with Spike. I would have made Spike more accessible to build on the Rarity-Spike dynamic some, but ah well. Anyway I've pushed the introduction of Stygian here instead of Chapter 1 and 2 because yes.) Stygian, while around in the present day, inherits the 'old-timey' pony culture, which serves as the culture shock for some of the later episodes down the line. This is also when we introduce Luna's dream walking capabilities. Rarity has a nightmare about her new friendships being ruined, and

Series 1, Chapter 4 - Abakening

This chapter focuses on the Sugar Cube Emporium, swapping with Sweet Apple Acres. When Cup Cake and Carrot Cake are unable to work, Pinkie Pie attempts to run the entire Sugar Cube Emporium by herself, which causes problems, leading her other friends confronting her about the issue. I originally compared this episode to "Baby Cakes", and to be honest, I feel the 'responsibility' lesson from that episode fits well here.

Series 1, Chapter 9 - Autumn Blame

The premise of this episode remains largely the same, however Autumn Blaze swaps with Zecora (and Autumn Blaze's house is swapped with Zecora's, but of course now on the slopes of Cantermore Mountain rather than the Peaks of Peril). Poison joke itself stays the same, but the ponies' individual ailments are swapped.

Series 1, Chapter 14 - "Suited for Success" (name pending)

So, given this is the first chance we have to properly focus on Twilight, I wanna go all in with the kind of "obsessive mad scientist" vibe I'm giving her. This is probably not going to be related to Hearth's Giving at all. In fact, I don't even know what this episode will be about, except a lot of nerding and "experiments". Twilight's design is swapped with Sci-Twi's pony form, as part of a couple vague swaps between the main show and Equestria Girls I'm doing.

Series 1, Chapter 15 - Simple Ways

Tension between Twilight and Pinkie swaps with tension between Rarity and Applejack. Simple. Rarity tries to understand Applejack in a more... direct manner.

Series 4, Chapter 13 - Feeling Pinkie Keen

And... well, you expected this one.

Series 1, Chapter 25&26 - The End of the Beginning

Grogar replaces Discord. Why is this the Series 1 finale and not the Series 2 premiere? Because funny Season 1/Season 9 swap. (The Best Night Ever and Party of One get moved to the beginning of Season 2). Anyway, I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with Grogar just yet. I'll figure that out as I develop his eventual friendship with Rainbow Dash later on. He's definitely not just going to be a Villain:tm:. Tbh I kinda feel like he might later on end up like that trope where the recurring cartoon villain is actually friends with the hero, but with Rainbow Dash. But for now he's just the Season 1 final villain. Fun fact: the fact that Grogar is never actually seen at all in the original show (by technicality) means I can basically do whatever I want with him, which is useful for a character in as interesting a role as Discord's.
Anyway, that's all I have so far! I will be releasing concepts for other episodes later on when I get ideas for them (or well, I have a lot of ideas already, I just need to pace them accordingly).

Im just going to say this at the start because I know some people wont have the patience to read it all so:
TL;DR, I enjoyed TTYD, I think its objectively a better game than TOK, but I still enjoy TOK more. I had higher highs with TTYD but also lower lows.
Now for those of you who want a long read:
For a long while I couldnt have a set in stone opinion on TTYD as I hadnt had the opportunity to finish it, however now that I have completed the main story of remaster I feel it is reasonable to state my opinion on the game, especially in comparison to Origami King, which is a game I enjoyed very much. And yes this will go over every chapter so spoilers.
Epilogue Starting off this game does a really good job at first impressions. Unique locations, weird but fun looking characters, really fun battle system. I can already say that the tutorial is much easier to swallow than TOK. I like the options to be able to explore extra parts of Rogueport early, even if theres not a whole lot to do there. Goombella is just alright. I didnt connect with her at all, she kind of just feels like a better Goombario, who I also didnt care for. Also we will be adding a counter to the "Major Female Character Who Loves Mario" board. We're at 2 right now.
Chapter 1 Chapter 1 brings up my biggest problem with this game. 3 words: Back and Forth. Chapter 1 isnt the worst when it comes to backtracking but it sets up what a lot of the game is like. Going from one end of Petal Meadows to the other then all the way back is tedious, but at least Petalburg and the Ruins battles give something interesting in between. Hooktail's Castle is a fun puzzle gauntlet tho Koops is fun and I enjoy his motivation of wanting to be more brave but similar to Goombella I didnt get that attached. (As you will see this is a trend with most partners for me) Also thats 3 to the counter with Ms Mows. I didnt use her as a partner much except for stealing a single life shroom, but as a character shes alright. Charming enough, and fun to have a partner be a recurring character rather than just someone you picked up from the side of the road.
Chapter 2 Suffers from some of the same issues as Chapter 1, only this time instead of Hooktail's Castle we have the Great Tree which is really mediocre. The Punies are excessively annoying to deal with. If I wanted to wrangle 100 tiny fellas I have the entire Pikmin series on my switch already. At least the boss fight against Magnus von Grapple was decently fun. Flurrie. She has a design. Ignoring the stuff Nintendo got away with 20 years ago I like Flurrie for being something that isnt a normal Mario enemy, and her abilities are fun and useful, but similar to the others, I didnt get attached.
Chapter 3 I dont get the hype. The mystery part? Awesome. The setting? Fantastic! Countless fighting over and over again? Less fun. The novelty wore off fast for me and I was just getting sick of fight after fight. Again, the mystery part was awesome, its just that the mystery was the add on to the overload of fights. I enjoy the battle system but not enough to have an entire chapter of just it. Baby Yoshi is fun. I mosty just liked him because I got to name him and it meant I could actually move around efficiently. Was my go to partner to carry around with me for a while since his attacks were really satisfying.
Chapter 4 This was the point I had gotten prior to the remaster that I never finished. I cant really say anything that hasnt been said when it comes to the gameplay of Chapter 4. I can say I love the idea though. A dark town and a shapeshifter? Fun idea. I just cant stand the back and forth, at least they were generous enough to add a pipe, but 3 trips between Twilight Town and Creepy Steeple down from the original 5 still feels excessive. Oh Im going to get burned for this but Vivian is just ok. She has a fun design and story, but ya'll just hyped her up way too much. Also yet another major female character with a crush on Mario. Im really happy that they confirmed that she is transgender, and I feel for her struggle, but that still dosnt change the fact that I just could not connect with her beyond sympathy, especially since using her in battle felt meh unless I was fighting ice enemies, especially since her fire attacks became pretty invalidated by the next chapter.
Chapter 5 Theres too much backtracking outside on Keelhaul Key, but once the caves are opened up I started to enjoy it more. Im already a sucker for pirate theming so this one was already angling to be enjoyed by me. I dont really have much to say besides I liked this one. And heres my favorite party member. Maybe I just really like Bobombs but I just love Bobbery. Im a sucker for tragedy and this explosive is stuffed with it. I like how hes treated like an npc prior to joining the party similar to how Ms Mowz was, but when I unlocked him I pretty much waved goodbye to using anyone else outside of when necessary. Bobbery is everything I love in a character; amazing design, fun personality, heart shattering backstory, emotional trauma, and my personal favorite: Explosions. I love raw damage and Bobbery sure as hell delivers.
Chapter 6 Chapter 6 has me very conflicted. It combines something I love with something I hate. I love mysteries, Chapter 3 did it well, and so does Chapter 6. I like all the different NPCs on the train. Now the problem: the train itself. So much back and forth through the same monotonous rooms over and over with the only changes being in lighting and music. Getting off of the train was very refreshing, and I did enjoy the smorgs.
Chapter 7 Fuck General White Getting into serious mode, General White wasnt awful, especially with the pipe hub, but it was still annoying. I also felt like the moon and X-Naut Base was really short. Im lumping the shadow palace in here too because I dont have much to say. It was a good final gauntlet run, nothing to write home about though. The final boss was awesome, but honestly kind of a pushover.
Misc First off music. It was great, but I do think I still enjoy TOK's more. While there were certainly aspects of the music I loved such as unique battle themes for different areas, and Doopliss' theme, none really stuck with me that much the way that TOK's did. Princess Peach stuff (if you couldnt tell Im getting tired of typing). I like getting to play as Peach like in 64, but TEC just made my feel kind of uncomfortable. Bowser Stuff. The side scroller parts are fun-ish. Silly distractions, glad theres not too many of them. I mostly just enjoy seeing Bowser doing his own thing, though I dont really see the continuity of the segments.
Overall, I do think that TTYD is a better game than TOK. The battle system works better, it has more unique characters and settings, and the villains motivation isnt racism. But on a personal level, I connected with TOK a lot more. Theres some stuff in TTYD which I enjoyed a lot more than I did with TOK, such as battling and designs, but I cant stand the backtracking and monotony of certain sections. I can definitely see where the hype came from, and Id be happy for another game similar, I just personally didnt connect with the whole package as much as I did with parts of it. Id also like to add that I may come off as overly negative here but I did genuinely have a fantastic time with this game and more than likely will play more.

I've finished second short story collection pretty fast because it was quite short, and, well, I couldn't stop reading. It was good idea that I abandoned the idea of comparing OG with translation. This time I could fully commit myself to experiencing the story.
I start with sharing some thoughts about each story (not in a comprehensive manner, I just want to highlight some details that I found interesting, funny or worth of explaining) and afterwards I write general summary of book.
The Bounds of Reason
For those that don't know what was the deal with shoemaker who tried to poison the dragon - story is inspired by polish legend of the dragon of Wawel. Wawel is a castle located in the city of Cracow. The story goes as usual in those that involve dragons. There's kingdom and dragon that thretened it and someone had to kill it. But in this legend the dragon wasn't killed by a knight in shining armor, but by clever shoemaker who came with the idea of sheep corpse filled with sulfur. Dragon ate the sheep and felt so thirsty that he drank water from river until he bursted. This is quite prevalent motif in polish legends - problems are often solved in a clever way without any violence. In the legend of Master Twardowski which inspired Hearts of Stone DLC to The Witcher 3 Twardowski tried to trick the devil by making a contract where the devil could take Twardowski's soul only in Rome. But obviously, Twardowski had no intention of going to Rome. However, the devil was smarter and caught Twardowski in the inn called Rome.
I don't know how the name of the shoemaker was translated into English, but in Polish he was named Kozojed, and if replace "d" with "b", his name would mean Goatfucker. I highly doubt that it was a coincidence on Sapkowski's side.
Also Borch "Three Jackdaws" is my favourite character from the short stories and I was sad that he didn’t make another appearance.

I have no clue what went wrong here. This story was insufferable cringefest. Even the dialogues, so masterful in any other Sapkowski's work, here were hard to read. Geralt is as exalted as characters from Twilight or something like that. His miserable suicide attempt was cherry on top. Guess Sapkowski was drung while writing this story.
Also Yennefer is extremely toxic character. Nowadays, after so many movie or books stories where toxic relationships are romanticised, creation like that may rise some brows. I guess that Sapkowski wanted to create imperfect, yet strong and magnetic female character that strayed away from princess archetype as far as possible. Besides, later on Yennefer gains more redeeming qualities like her motherly love for Ciri, which makes her really complex.

Probably the funniest witcher story Sapkowski ever wrote (maybe besides Something Ends, Something Begins, but this one is non-canonical). Sapkowski prior to becoming full-time writer was working in comerce and have a degree in economy and knew very well how to make fun of it.

This story is somehow similar to A Shard of Ice, but it disects Geralt's charactervand his relationship with Yennefer much better while avoiding cringe (for the most part). Some .ay say that Essi is yet another female character that falls for Geralt for no reason but I disagree. Her purpose in the story is for Geralt to better understand his feelings for Yennefer and besides she is really well written. Also, the story ends in incredible melancholic way, something that Sapkowski is great at.
The Sword of Destiny
Again - minor detail that seems to be very polish. Soon after Geralt saves Ciri, she sulks and doesn't want to follow him, so he threats that he'd leave her. This is such a polish way to deal with children that don't behave in public - "I gonna leave you here and mister will come and take you". But is it only polish or maybe people outside of Poland (or eastern european countries in general) experienced the same thing as kids?

I mentioned previously how The Witcher saga came to be because fans demanded it. Fanbase affected the series also in other ways. Sapkowski after publishing his first witcher story wrote a story about sorceress Visenna that helped people to deal with some monster or other problems (I'm not sure right now). It was completely separate story that has nothing to do with The Witcher. But in the 80s/early 90s comics about Geralt were published, and their authors came up with the idea that Visenna was mother of Geralt. Sapkowski didn’t like the idea initially but ultimately made it official in this story.
Now to the general thoughts about the whole book. I remembered "The Sword of Destiny" as much more serious and deeper book than "The Last Wish" and I liked it more because of that. But now I'm not sure. I see some cracks (however not gigantic). Sapkowski likes to put the titles of the stories here and there in the text that blends really nicely. But in this book he went overboard especially in the first two short stories. It was almost as if characters used "bounds of reason" phrase in every other sentence they spoke. Sapkowski also wanted to tell more serious and complex stories and sometimes it didn't work. Besides "A Shard of Ice" story, sometimes dialogues sounds like monologues from Shakespeare dramas.
That being said, as a teenager I didn't notice that the whole book has overarching ecological theme that connects all the stories. I remembered that novels had it, but not the stories. And Sapkowski approached the problem from many angles. Golden dragon and driads are protecting their kinds from human greed. Zeugl lives in areas polluted by humans. Dopplers show that the only way to survive in the world of humans is to adapt, and since driads are refusing to do so, they're doomed to extinct. Even the dangerous sea won't be spared from human greed. And it's nice that main characters of the story are not always on the right side. Geralt, although he refuses to kill inteligent species, has no problems with killing other monster and Dorregaray points out that every species have a role to play in nature.
Ecological theme of the stories is also saturated with melancholy and this sense of longing of the times passed. It's something that always remids mi of LotR. Tolkien also filled his world with melancholy. This melancholy became so strong in the last two stories that when Geralt reunited with Ciri at the end of book I was on the verge of crying. It has been years since I read a book "emotionally" rather than intellectually. It's really hard for books to move me in any way. In fact, I don't remembered when it happened the last time. This wasn't be possible if Sapkowski wasn't so good at creating characters. Geralt spend with Ciri just 24h or so and yet their relation was completely believable just after a dozen of pages. That's why their reunion moved me so much. Obviously, it's a very subjective thing, but I thought I share it anyway.
Also I am curious, at which point of writing short stories that ended up in this book Sapkowski decided to write the whole novel series? It's clear that the last two stories were written as sort of prologue for the saga, but also previous stories seem to prepare characters for what's to come and are sorted in clear chronological order.

I've finished the second short story collection pretty fast because it was quite short, and, well, I couldn't stop reading. It was a good idea that I abandoned the idea of comparing OG with translation. This time, I could fully commit myself to experiencing the story.
I start with sharing some thoughts about each story (not in a comprehensive manner, I just want to highlight some details that I found interesting, funny or worth of explaining) and afterwards I write general summary of book.
The Bounds of Reason
For those that don't know what was the deal with the shoemaker who tried to poison the dragon - story is inspired by the polish legend of the dragon of Wawel. Wawel is a castle located in the city of Cracow. The story goes as usual in those that involve dragons. There's kingdom and dragon that threatened it, and someone had to kill it. But in this legend, the dragon wasn't killed by a knight in shining armour, but by clever shoemaker who came with the idea of sheep corpse filled with sulfur. Dragon ate the sheep and felt so thirsty that he drank water from river until he burst. This is quite a prevalent motif in polish legends - problems are often solved in a clever way without any violence. In the legend of Master Twardowski, which inspired Hearts of Stone DLC to The Witcher 3, Twardowski tried to trick the devil by making a contract where the devil could take Twardowski's soul only in Rome. But obviously, Twardowski had no intention of going to Rome. However, the devil was smarter and caught Twardowski in the inn called Rome.
I don't know how the name of the shoemaker was translated into English, but in Polish he was named Kozojed, and if replace "d" with "b", his name would mean Goatfucker. I highly doubt that it was a coincidence on Sapkowski's side.
Also Borch "Three Jackdaws" is my favourite character from the short stories and I was sad that he didn’t make another appearance.
