For anyone who wants to see how things began.

“In what universe would I ever do you a favor? “ I say, sweeping the floor of the reinforced barn.
“It’s not a favor, it’s a trade, bud.
What do you want in return? “ Trenchcoat asks from within the coffin-like cage.
“To be back home, 8 months ago. “ I reply.
Over the past few weeks I’ve managed to integrate myself into the day to day life on the farm. Things are still a grim, horrifying slog, but with every day it gets a bit easier to deal with.
“Give me something I can do. “ The creature pleads.
“Why, so I can wind up on the end of another ‘ Gotcha’ moment? I’m good. “ is my answer.
A few minutes of silence go by, Augustus breaks it.
“I don’t know many secrets of the universe. Facts, not really my bag. But I know a couple.
How about I share one with you?
No one, not the pope, not my brother, not the shit-bird perched on the highest branch of my twisted family tree, knows what happens when you die.
Some of us never will, of course. Others have ways of avoiding it, but at the end of the day, when the lights truly go out, we know next to nothing.
We do know one thing though. There is judgement, by who? Who knows? Why? Not important.
But at the end of the day, if your battery can’t be recharged, you really want to be thinking about how many marks are on each side of the ledger. “
I don’t reply, and for the next hour or so I ignore the pleading and hinting Trenchcoat does.
But that night, as I sip acidic tea, and try to get a handle on how in the fuck old televisions function, his offer is at the forefront of my mind.
He wants to kill, specifically 6 teenagers who, according to him, have been murdering classmates yearly in a twisted ritual.
He wants me to think this is some kind of noble act, he frames it as almost superheroic. The evil prick knows how I feel, knows that I see the blood on my hands every day, and would kill ( possibly literally) for some way to atone.
Is it a play? I honestly don’t think so, something about how eager the twisted thing is, about how he’s treating the situation as a buyer’s market makes me think something about this makes it important to him.
He offers me everything besides safety and protection. I’m desperate for help, but I have no way to hold him to any agreement.
So the thought rolls around in my mind, staving off the few hours of sleep I get.
“Okay, so, I have it on good authority that tea is supposed to taste better over here. What the hell is wrong with this? “ I say, sitting around an outside table with Sylvia, Dafydd and Colin.
Sylvia smiles, “ Barium, calcium, and a touch of castor oil. “
I look at the brew, then at her.
“If I had told you when you got here you need to drink that to mitigate the effects of working with void touched objects and creatures, you’d have assumed the worst, and found a way to avoid drinking it.
Good to see you becoming more perceptive though. “ Sylvia explains.
“That’s called paranoia, Syl. “ I reply.
She laughs, lighting a cigarette.
“Do you know why I’ve let you figure things out on your own? “ The ancient woman asks.
“Accepted? Yes. Understood, not in the slightest. “ I answer, wondering what sadist invented the scone.
“It’s because I need a leader. Someone who can understand, not a boy who puts his head down and listens to orders.
Someone who can make their own decisions when the time comes.
And I think that time is coming soon. “ Her statement feels like a question.
“If I chose to be here I’d be honored.” I counter.
“That attitude on the other hand… needs work.
Nikolas, today, we talk about what’s really going on.
We play a role in a much larger organization, us, and other families like us, are the ‘boots on the ground’ so to speak.
Our job is not to capture creatures, or horde esoteric goods. We do not foil the schemes of demons, nor blind those who look too deeply into the abyss.
We’re given information about events that could steer the path of humanity into a brick wall. And our job is to make sure they don’t happen. “ Sylvia reveals.
“Something is happening with these fights? “ I ask.
“As I said, perceptive.
Yes, it could be next week, it could be in a decade or two. Right now, we know very little about it, other than when it happens, it would be in our best interests to be of a high standing in the pits. “ She replies.
I absorb the information, and t drug laced tea in equal measure. As I do, I feel something, I feel I’m a part of what’s going on.
This is going to sound dumb as hell, but up until this point I hadn’t been taking things seriously. Don’t get me wrong, death is on the table, and I was trying to avoid that. But I was just treading water, hoping something or someone came by and to get me out of this situation.
But as Syl lays things out, I start to think of my place here, what I can be doing to better my state.
“Here is the part where you avoid telling me why you couldn’t have used anyone around here. “ I prod.
I keep her gaze, Colin and Dafydd shift uncomfortably.
“Augustus, he’s a tricky one. But a very lucky find for us.
I’ve tried 2 others. A boy and a girl, both I practically raised.
Marco, he was a warrior. But the demon got in his head. There was nothing that could be done beyond end his suffering.
Zelma, I won’t talk about.
That thing, it has a way of turning someone’s best traits against them. You, are a blank slate, but you’re family. You’re my best guess as to how we can use him to our advantage.
And this is why I need you, not to listen, but to understand. To see what’s happening, and make your own decisions. If I were to give you my knowledge, if I were to arm you with the best weapons, and the most powerful esoteric objects I know. He’d just have more to turn against you. “ Sylvia’s revelation scares me and puts a massive weight on my shoulders all at the same time.
Confidence and fear are both dangerous emotions. The two of them are almost like drugs in a way.
After eight months of mainlining fear, the tiny line of confidence Sylvia gave me, went straight to my head.
Trenchcoat told me where to find a video file. And after a couple of weeks of running it through every possible test I could, to check for any kind of manipulation, supernatural or otherwise, I watched it.
I was confident that the world would be much better off without the people committing the vicious acts contained in those twenty minutes of footage.
A teenage view of morality, I admit. But what do you want, I’m a teenager.
We watch the abandoned house from across the street. It’s a dingy, urban blight affected suburb, that being said, how no one seems to notice the seven foot freak with me, I have no idea.
The kid inside smoking stolen cigarettes and illegally supplied booze is a husky young guy of about 14. The half dozen kids that show up a couple hours later look closer to my age, last couple of years of high school I’m guessing.
The way they get into the house tells me they’ve done this before. The backpacks they all carry tell me they’re there for a purpose.
“How fucking funny would it be if I just killed you here and took off? “ Trenchcoat says, looming behind me.
I tense.
“It’s a joke. Out of my whole rotten family, Art and I, are close. I’m not going anywhere.
Unfortunately for you. “ Trenchcoat shoves me to the ground as he walks toward the house.
We get in through a basement window, I fit easily, Trenchcoat contorts his body to fit through the thin opening, somehow doing so silently.
I keep hearing Sylvia in my head. Telling me how she needs someone that can make his own decisions.
As I stand in the litter strewn basement, beside a creature with child murder on it’s mind I question the decision that I made.
At first the illumination is dim, nothing more than scraps of moonlight filtered through splintered wood. But with an industrial click, suddenly a half dozen lightbulbs bathe the basement in harsh, yellowish light.
Harsh, but not harsh enough to cause the reaction I see from Trenchcoat.
He squints and tries, unsuccessfully to turn away from the lights. Something about them is causing him discomfort. I get my hopes up for a moment he’s going to burst into flame or turn into dust or something, but no dice.
The sight of the walking nightmare looking pained and confused makes me panic. But before I can think of how I fucked up, I hear a voice.
The room, by the sounds of it, the entire house, has been rigged with speakers. Cleverly recessed in sconces and corners.
“Augi, long time no see. And I see you brought a little Renfield fella with you. “ The voice is modulated, Trenchcoat looks curious for a moment.
“Who, is this? You that clown that’s been fucking with Art?” He guesses.
The voice laughs, “Nope.
Who I am, is a guy who managed to find a few boxes of lightbulbs from ’93.
Then again, with eBay, that could make me just about anyone. “
Trenchcoat turns and looks toward the window we came in. He reaches a hand toward it, stopping a few inches away.
“That’s fucking interesting. “ He says, eyes darting around the room.
“Isn’t it though? “ The voice replies, clearly hearing the creature’s whisper, “ Tonight you get the pay for centuries of the worst shit committed by man or beast. I’ve made sure of that. No one in this house is going anywhere for the next 8 hours.
I’m sure the rest of the houseguests are pretty confused as to what’s going on. You wouldn’t believe me if I told you, so let me give you the Cliff’s notes.
You kids have been killing a monster a year for half a decade. You were the perfect bait, and I have faith you’ll be able to outwit Augi long enough to make it out of here.
If not, you’ll still have helped kill one of the worst things to walk the face of the earth. “
“What the hell is he talking about? “ I ask, a sinking feeling in my gut.
“That’s what you’re worried about right now?
Yeah, these kids are more Scooby gang than Manson family. Don’t blame me for the fact it only took an out of context exorcism video and some promises of making things right with the universe to get you on board with killing them. “ Trenchcoat spits.
I feel afraid, stupid and small. Which is to say, lately, business as usual.
I begin to break lightbulbs, I notice no runes, or anything else that would indicate they have any kind of supernatural origin.
As the basement dims, Trenchcoat starts to breathe easier.
“What’s going on, what stopped you from leaving? “ I ask.
“This little shit is playing The Game. “ Trenchcoat says to himself as much as to me. He looks deep in thought, inspecting the glass from the bulbs.
“What are you talking about? “ I say, my voice cracking slightly.
I hear noises upstairs, frantic foot falls. Indecipherable shouting.
Trenchcoat turns to me, exasperated and filled with anger.
“You’ve heard of ‘Rules’ right? All that ‘Don’t turn left on East street at 3:24 am kind of shit? “ The creature starts, “More and more of them popping up lately. Can’t miss the things.
Well, your kind seems great at finding them, but fucking awful at figuring out what they are. It’s not someone’s new job, or creepy school. The answer is so damned simple, but all of you’ve missed it.
It's a game. It’s, The Game.
It’s ran by the thickest branches of my family tree, and the stakes are high enough even I don’t really understand.
And whoever has us here, he’s weaponized it. The crazy fuck. “
“Call on your family for help then. “ I say, starting to deal with the fear and confusion.
“You first. “ Is Trenchcoat’s reply.
I get his point, and for a twisted, shitty moment, I find myself relating to the murderous thing I’ve been saddled with.
“So what’s the plan? “ I ask.
“Get my hands on whoever’s been stalking me. Between A and B, probably kill those little do-gooders upstairs out of spite.
I need you to circumvent rules we come across. Humans need to agree to follow the rules, it’s why people encounter them in jobs and schools so much. I’m not human, if you haven’t noticed. I don’t get a choice. “ I’m shaking my head as Augustus relates his plan.
“We’re not hurting those kids. “ I say defiantly.
“I’m sure you’ll have no problem with that.
But I’m a God damned child killing monster, bud! How long is that going to take to sink the fuck in?
Me not doing what I do, isn’t like giving up smokes. Think of it like not having a slash for months on end. Sooner or later, like it or not, I’m either finding a bathroom or pissing my pants. “ the rant scares me, but it makes me think.
Something about Augustus, it seems very, 90’s. Whoever was on the speakers was talking about the lightbulbs being from ’93. I’m picking up on a very distinct pattern.
I file that information with the rest of the disconnected lore I’ve managed to find on Trenchcoat as I follow him up the steep, narrow set of stairs.
He whips the thin wood door open, taking an aggressive, lurching step into the livingroom beyond. Surely ready to dispense too far quips and limitless violence, as per usual.
But that doesn’t happen, his rage filled scowl turns into a look of resignation, “Fuck”, is the monster’s last word before he disappears.
I cautiously walk up the loose splinter ridden stairs, expecting Augustus to be waiting around the corner, or engaged in combat with some other horror.
But once I get to the top, there’s nothing more sinister than a livingroom covered in dust and graffiti strewn with old bottles and new stains.
I know my chance when I see it. The particle board sealing the bay window is rotten, the glass long since broken.
No monster, no crazy family, I’ll take my chances with the streets of the U. K.
I tap the crumbling wood with a foot, it rattles, it won’t take much to make a hole.
I line up a kick, freedom no more than a quarter inch of rotten wood away.
“I wouldn’t do that. “ Says a voice behind me, male, around my age I’d guess, but with a confidence that makes me listen, “ Rigged with a load of C4 in the window frame.
Don’t take my word for it, guy wasn’t very subtle. ”
Sure enough, I see small wires running along the edges of the frame and embedded in the particle board.
I turn around, the six people standing in front of me have a vibe I can only describe as severe.
“Are we going to have issues? “ a slight, dark skinned guy asks.
“You making threats? “ I reply.
“No, he isn’t. “ it’s the same voice that warned me about the explosives. It belongs to a squared jawed kid with short black hair, he’s wearing a grey hoodie, and separates himself from the group. “ Call me Kent, and I’m in charge of making threats.
Sid, he’s our people person, he’s just trying to see if you’re someone we need to worry about. “
“We don’t have time to figure this kid out, leave him. “ a short, ginger girl says.
“Ami, why don’t I stay out of equipment, and you and Kent let me figure this kid out?” Sid says.
“I’m Nik. “ I volunteer.
“Good to meet you Nik. “ Sid says, walking around Kent, “Didn’t mean to start things off on the wrong foot.
We’ve just gotten used to doing these kinds of things in our own way over the past bit. We get a little… weird around this time of year if I’m being honest. “
I nod, apprehensive at giving any kind of detailed response.
“Derik” says a tall, pale guy, “ Research. “
“Liam. “ a tanned boy in a flannel shirt and deep blue jeans tells me, “ Oxford doesn’t talk, accident a couple of years back. I’m logistics, he figures spooky shit out. “
Oxford is thin and bald, his face looks much older than it should. Like he’s the victim of some kind of wasting disease.
Telling these kids the truth would be, complicated. And something about their war vet demeanor, makes me want to keep things simple.
So I give them a version of the truth. One where I was plucked from my room by Trenchcoat, and brought here for a slow death.
They buy it. I think.
“Well, I don’t know what this Jigsaw wannabe has planned, but trust me when I say, it can’t be much worse than the things we’ve went through. “ Kent says, trying to be reassuring.
“Just, one more thing. “ Sid begins, “ Why all the scars? “
I know I’ve won most of the group over, but I don’t like the look Sid is giving me.
“Work on a farm, on top of that, the family owns an auction. Lots of bent steel and splinters, what can I say? “ I say, trying to sound casual.
“Fair enough, that accent though. “ Sid’s look becomes almost predatory as he talks.
“Immigration my guy. What’s with the third degree? “ I reply.
“We’ve just met and I’ve only asked three questions.
Humor me here though.
You get taken in the night by that thing that winked out of existence.
Seems pretty nice of him to let you put on shoes. “ Sid lets his statement hang.
Kent turns, I don’t like where this is going. Panic and fear start to well up.
“What’re you thinking Sid? “ Kent asks.
“Kid’s lying. But he’s good at it. “ Sid answers.
“You saying this has turned into a, me, situation? “ Kent’s question starts a deep pit in my stomach.
“I don’t know if we need to go that far. But I don’t like the idea of him having seen our faces. I think this is a Liam situation. “ As Sid says this I look to Liam, who already seems deep in thought.
“Local cops will back our story, but he could go beyond them.
We tie him up until all of this is done, and we get some video of him putting a blade into the body upstairs. He goes telling any stories, it’s us and the locals versus some Yank on video stabbing the kid. “ Liam suggests.
I tried to fight, it went, embarrassingly. Kent had me on the ground in some kind of arm lock in about a second.
I’m bound to an old wooden chair with electrical cords, dragged into a room on the second floor where the chubby kid from before lays face down in a coagulated pool of his own blood. Surrounded by the trappings of misspent youth.
The door locks, and I stare at the corpse, wondering what in the hell went on up here, and in what universe are these psychopaths anything other than what they seemed on screen.
Time becomes almost malleable. I’m terrified to the point where every moment seems to stretch out forever.
Then, I hear it. A wet, organic noise. It starts below the body, and slowly starts to spread.
After a minute or two, the body starts to jerk and twitch. The room is dim as hell, but some kind of ropey, flesh-like substance, is sealing off the door.
I watch as the corpse clumsily gets to it’s feet. It’s skin pale, it’s throat slit to the point of near decapitation.
The head falls backward, obscenely with a small spurt of thick blood.
I scream, I thought I’d been getting used to being face to face with monsters. But fully bound, inches away from a kid that seems to be filled with a twisting mass of barbed, writhing, intestine like tentacles, I realize I’m not used to shit.
The ropey mass forms the barest suggestion of features, a shifting, lumpen mass of ever moving tendrils coming from what used to be the kid’s neck.
The sound spreads more, cracks in the floorboards and walls begin to show hints of the tendrils filling them in like spray foam.
No one is hearing my screams, or if they are, they have no interest in helping.
Ever wonder how you’d handle torture? I think if you’re the kind of person to be reading this, it’s likely you have.
I started by pissing myself.
The second the thin tendril touches my hand, I feel a blinding, flensing pain. I can do nothing but watch, as thousands of nearly hair thin spines tear and consume my flesh. As it slowly, almost, curiously makes it’s way up my arm, it leaves a bloodless, scarred furrow about an eighth of an inch deep.
My second reaction was to lose any pretense at defiance or dignity. I thrash and scream, beg and offer. All of this turning into choked sobs as the thing starts to do much of the same with another tendril.
It felt like I was in hell, every inch of me nothing more than a canvas for this artist of misery.
But pain, it can only go so far. Whether we’re talking about my tolerance, or this thing’s interest.
Mutilation, the brutal wedding of pain and loss. That was it’s next step.
A thick, almost centipede like tendril sits on my pinky like a hot iron. I can only watch in horror as I see fat, then muscle, then bone, then, nothing.
My voice shreds, I tear my wrists and ankles trying desperately to break the expertly tied wires.
My mind is at the breaking point, the creature in front of my makes a terrible, high pitched keening I assume is laughter.
My body is a roadmap of scarred pits and lines. My hand sports a cleanly severed finger. Fuck me, I wish things ended there.
Of all the important parts of the human body, the eye, tends to feel the least pain. Which isn’t to say, as I watched the greedy, grasping claws slowly take pieces of one of mine, it didn’t hurt, but the worst part, was knowing what was happening.
The vision in my left eye begins to distort at first, the edges getting blurry, then going dark. Bit by bit, chunk by irreplaceable chunk, the creature takes half my vision.
I can feel the shifting air on the bare socket, to call what I’m doing screaming, would be understating things to the point of absurdity.
My brain reels at what has just happened. I can feel my grip on reality begin to loosen, pain, worse than can bare, loss of half my sight, it’s too much.
My brain feels filled with static, for a few brief moments I swear, I can hear someone, a voice, trying to tell me something.
But then, a smell hits me. Something so foul, so alien, it yanks me back from the brink of disassociation. I gag and choke, as the air becomes thick with the rotten, chemical reek.
Then, I see it, I see, him.
As randomly as he disappeared, in an instant Trenchcoat is in the room.
He’s torn apart, wounds so deep and ragged, I can see the door on the other side of the room through the worst of them.
One arm is a twisted, broken mess, the flesh jacket torn to shreds of necrotic tissue.
The look on his face is panic, paranoia. A rictus grin of someone that has been kept on his toes for entirely too long.
He trembles and heaves, looking like he could fall over at any second.
He points his good arm at the tendril creature, who I notice has a too familiar eye suspended in it’s shifting features.
“You wouldn’t happen to know anything about the motherfucker who just made me kill my favorite cousin, would you? “ Trenchcoat asks, his voice cracked, and strained.
He gets a confused keening in response.
“Bad day for you then. “ Augustus says.
There is no style to his violence, Trenchcoat grabs the shifting mass, his wicked, claw tipped fingers angling themselves in tendrils. As he lifts the thing, floorboards break, and it’s torn free from the root-like system it was creating in the room.
Three brutal slams cover me in ichor and pieces of creature. Trenchcoat tosses the mewling, twitching pile in a corner and looks at me with disgust.
“You let that thing do this to you? Fuckin’ pathetic, bud.
And who tied you up? “ The nightmare I’ve been cursed with chides me.
“The kids downstairs. “ I say only now realizing I’ve still been sobbing.
One handed, Trenchcoat snaps the wires, then stumbles backward, slowly sliding down the wall.
He coughs, grey, bloody phlegm hitting the ground.
“So, what’s the play here? If this shit broke you, I could use the spare parts, if not, well, you know what the Bible says.
An eye for an eye. “ Trenchcoat grins as he talks, nearly on the brink of death.
And that’s where I think I’m going to leave things. Because, honestly I don’t know what I’m choosing.
I’m mutilated, half blind, using too much of my energy typing to strangers online about things because, I’m so fucking alone here.
If you hear from me again, I hope I made the right move. If not, take this as a lesson on what happens when you screw around with the occult.

Jungleroo Traveler Penny on a steal
Got these bad boys during the Memorial Day Sale. B-Grade Jungle Kangaroo Traveler Penny Loafers. So in total plus shipping (I live in Singapore so it was never going to be free) this was 224 USD. What a steal!
Initial Impressions I inspected the loafer, and in typical Grant Stone B-Grade standard, I couldn't find any real defect or anything jarring enough for this not to be considered retail. There wasn't any creasing or scratches, stitching on the uppers was all good. I was surprised the penny strap is fully stitched on too, normally they can be separated to slip that penny in😂.
Sizing I'm a brannock 10B, heel to ball, 9.5C heel to toe. My feet are narrow, low arch, low instep and low foot volume and skinny heels and ankles. So I don't follow regular sizing conventions. I got these in 8.5D. I have tried 8D and 8.5D in the Leo Last, but found 8D too narrow at the toe and short at the heel causing discomfort. 8.5D allows some wiggle room in the toe and isn't suffocating my heel. So I got the same size in the Alexander last. So thing to note, the instep on the Alexander last really is quite low. Normally I've always got tonnes of space at my instep, but in this case it really is about right, just some minor spacing. I think I can size down to an 8D if I was going thin no show socks or sickness, but I've had enough of my toes getting squeezed. With medium thickness socks I'm still experiencing some heel slip. So I'm contemplating adding a thin insole (probably Dale's) and/or a tongue pad. I probably will have to wear these with medium to thick socks all the time, my heels are just too skinny. So sizing isn't perfect, but it rarely ever is. I have another pair of smaller dressier loafers, so that can be my thin no show sock loafer, not a big deal.
Nitpicking So if I really want to make an excuse for why these deserve to be in B-Grades, here's what I found:
  1. Welt stitching has a minor misaligned stitch on the inside heel, probably where they start and finish.
  2. On the right loafer, the welt stitching at the heel has a more visible gap to the upper, so it wasn't as tight there.
  3. Beveling on the sole isn't very consistent.
Overall, nothing of concern to the average buyer. If you come from the dress shoe world, details and finishing quality are paramount. So these might be possible areas of concern.
Value At 224 USD, and basically flawless, these are an absolute steal. Comparing these with dressier loafers, the biggest disparity is sole finishing. It is very minimal. But if you want your soles glassed, sanded, edge ironed, burnished, heels pitched, then you're talking about a shoe that's going to easily cost you 500 USD and above in most cases. Plus the make up of this loafer, kangaroo leather. I don't know anyone else putting that out unless it's MTO. You know what you're getting with Grant Stone. It's a little more rugged and casual. Lasts are more forgiving and prioritise comfort and space in the toe box whilst still giving off a sleek silhouette. It's a nice balance. And most important of all it's well constructed, with good materials and not cheapening out where it matters.
Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase, and I'm glad I waited out this long for B-Grades. Maybe 8D would have fit better with some slight squeezing at the toes, but I'll find a solution for it, the fit isn't too far off.

Classic Never Goes Away II
A rather dreary, bleary, and all round grim day, but that doesn’t stop a man from exploring the local jaunts and haunts. As such, it was off west to observe a palace and its surrounding grounds.
I happened upon cats, ducks, and fruits mere weeks away from the local market. All in all, it was rather a fun experience.
To make it even better, I thought to build a preppy ensemble in preparation for the winds and rain for your entertainment.
Coat: Polo Ralph Lauren
I simply can’t get enough of madras. Such a classic prep pattern and it was put together with such care by the good folks at Ralph Lauren. For quite some time, I was in two minds about this coat. Do I keep it? Do I sell it? Today was the maiden voyage and I’ve decided it’s a keeper. Even better that it’s 100% Cotton.
Blazer: Ermenegildo Zegna
The Navy blazer is a classic staple. Heck, there’s even a whole subreddit dedicated to it. This example is a travel cloth which is brilliant for summer due to its light weight and ability to bounce back from creasing. Even better that it’s fully canvassed. ‘Twas also a candidate for sale, but I pulled it out, tried it on again, and said, ‘Yeah.’
Funnily enough, the button popped clean off after taking the first photo. I heard it clang on the ground. But not to worry, re-attached with a linen thread and it won’t be going anywhere any time soon. Perhaps I’ll convert all of them to brass in time.
Chinos: Polo Ralph Lauren
The classic Ralph chinos are always a brilliant choice. Wide leg, pleats, thick cotton with a brilliant hang. Just as chinos were meant to be. If you’re searching, keep an eye out for ‘Andrew’ and ‘Suffield’. They’re the best ones, but I don’t think they make them anymore.
Shirt: Eton
Never had much experience with this brand, but I’ve come to the conclusion that their shirts are solid. I wouldn’t pay retail for them, but if you can thrift it, go for it. Seen here in a lovely white, blue, and navy grid. Just some additional visual intrigue.
Vest: Polo Ralph Lauren
Still one of the best in the game when it comes to the art of the vest. Pure cotton here and as such, the moths can dream on.
Tie: Vintage St. Michael
Well, you have to pull it all together with something. Bring in the navy of the blazer, the red of the glasses, the yellow on the vest, and the cream/beige of the trousers.
Watch: Longines Hydroconquest 43mm Automatic Sunray Blue
Love this piece. Can never go wrong with an auto diver. Such a versatile style of sports watch that can fit so many outfits and settings.
Shoes: Crockett & Jones
Keep it English and you won’t regret it, but if you stray then I’ll have to say, ‘Nay!’ Single monk. Supremely comfortable and versatile. So easy to dress up or down.
Socks: Pantherella
Knee high, boyo. As it should be. Socks falling down? Never me.
Glasses: Cubitts
Love this brand. Pretty funky, pretty 70s, pretty cool. Acetate frames as they were meant to be.
Hat: Bates
Can’t go wrong with a black and white houndstooth in pure wool. Kept the noggin warm as the wind and rain came with a fury at various points of the day.
And after all that, what else can I say? Simply put: Classic Never Goes Away

2024.05.31 18:42 abosaurio What can I use 100% cotton yarn for?

Hi, I'm a newbie knitter and wanted to give a try knitting socks so I bough a 100% yarn for it...but later when finding a pattern I found out that 100% cotton is not recommended/good for socks.
I can't get a return on my yarn so I'm wondering what kind of thing could I knit with 100% cotton yarn.
**The yarn is the same thickness as most knitting socks

2024.05.31 13:34 witchyphotographer Never going to be an 'expert'

I've been obsessed with knitting socks for YEARS now and I'd say I'm pretty good at it. I have it down to an art, I love using different patterns and will get the 3am mania whilst writing my own. However, as I cast on my first toe-up sock in nearly two years last night I realised that I will never call myself an 'expert' sock knitter, maybe not even an 'advanced' sock knitter. I exclusively knit socks that I enjoy and that means there are certain techniques that I'll never really master because I either don't like how it looks or its completely different to my aesthetic.
To be honest, I am completely fine with this. I have no intentions to spend my time/money/yarn/energy on knitting a pair of socks I don't like simply so I can say I know a specific technique. Life is too short.
That said, I'd love to hear other thoughts and perspectives on this, or maybe this isn't such an uncommon thought.

2024.05.31 11:21 hifenlmt Casual Days to Classy Nights: Versatile Over the Knee Socks

Casual Days to Classy Nights: Versatile Over the Knee Socks
Over The Knee Socks
In the ever-evolving world of fashion, versatility is key. One accessory that embodies this principle is the over-the-knee sock. These stylish and functional pieces have made a remarkable comeback, offering endless possibilities for both casual and classy outfits. Whether you’re running errands during the day or heading out for a sophisticated evening, over-the-knee socks can be your go-to fashion statement. In this article, we’ll explore how to transition seamlessly from casual days to classy nights with this versatile accessory.
The Allure of Over-the-Knee Socks
Over-the-knee socks have a long and storied history in fashion. Initially popularized in the early 20th century, they were often seen as a symbol of schoolgirl innocence and modesty. However, in recent years, they have shed this narrow image, becoming a staple in the wardrobes of fashion-forward individuals of all ages. Their appeal lies in their ability to blend comfort, warmth, and style effortlessly.
Comfort and Warmth
One of the primary reasons over-the-knee socks are so beloved is their comfort and warmth. As the weather cools down, these socks provide an extra layer of insulation, keeping your legs warm without the bulk of additional clothing. Made from materials like wool, cotton, or a blend of synthetic fibers, they offer both breathability and coziness. This makes them ideal for layering during the fall and winter months.
Style and Versatility
Beyond their practical benefits, over-the-knee socks are incredibly stylish and versatile. They come in a wide range of colors, patterns, and materials, allowing you to choose pairs that best suit your personal style. From classic black to bold, colorful prints, there’s a pair of over-the-knee socks for every occasion.
Casual Daytime Looks
Let’s start with casual daytime looks. Over-the-knee socks can add a playful yet put-together touch to your everyday outfits. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Pairing with Shorts and Skirts
One of the easiest ways to wear over-the-knee socks during the day is with shorts or skirts. This combination works particularly well in transitional seasons like spring and fall. For a laid-back, casual look, pair your socks with denim shorts and a loose, oversized sweater. Add some ankle boots or sneakers, and you’re ready for a day of errands or a casual lunch with friends.
If you prefer skirts, opt for a flared or A-line style that hits just above the knee. A plaid or floral skirt paired with over-the-knee socks and a simple tee can create a youthful, preppy look. Finish off with ballet flats or loafers for a comfortable yet stylish ensemble.
Layering with Dresses
Dresses are another great option for showcasing your over-the-knee socks. For a bohemian-inspired look, pair them with a flowy, knee-length dress and a wide-brimmed hat. This look is perfect for a day at the farmers’ market or a casual brunch. Alternatively, a fitted sweater dress with over-the-knee socks and knee-high boots can create a sleek, polished look suitable for a day at the office or a business casual meeting.
Casual Winter Outfits
During the colder months, layering becomes essential. Over-the-knee socks can be worn over leggings or tights for added warmth. Pair them with a chunky knit sweater, a wool skirt, and ankle boots for a cozy yet chic winter outfit. Don’t forget to add a scarf and a beanie to complete the look.
Transitioning to Classy Night Looks
As day turns to night, over-the-knee socks can easily transition from casual to classy. Here’s how you can elevate your evening outfits:
Elegant Dresses and Heels
For a sophisticated evening look, pair your over-the-knee socks with a little black dress and high heels. Choose socks in a sheer or lace material for a touch of elegance. This combination creates a balanced look that’s both feminine and alluring. Add statement jewelry and a clutch to complete your outfit.
Skirts and Blouses
A pencil skirt paired with over-the-knee socks and a silk blouse is a chic option for a night out. Opt for socks in a dark, solid color to keep the look sophisticated. High-heeled ankle boots or pumps will elongate your legs and add a touch of glamour. This ensemble is perfect for a dinner date or a night at the theater.
Layering with Coats and Jackets
Outerwear plays a crucial role in evening outfits, especially during colder months. A tailored coat or a faux fur jacket can instantly elevate your look. For a classy night out, wear your over-the-knee socks with a fitted dress, heeled boots, and a long, tailored coat. The contrast between the socks and the coat will add depth and interest to your outfit.
Accessorizing Your Look
Accessories can make or break an outfit. When it comes to over-the-knee socks, the right accessories can enhance your look and add a touch of personality.
Belts and Scarves
Belts can help define your waist and add structure to your outfit. A wide belt over a sweater dress and over-the-knee socks can create an hourglass silhouette. Scarves, on the other hand, can add color and texture to your look. A patterned scarf can complement your socks and tie the whole outfit together.
Jewelry
Statement jewelry can elevate even the simplest outfits. For a casual daytime look, opt for layered necklaces or stackable rings. For a classy evening look, go for bold earrings or a statement necklace. The key is to balance your accessories with the rest of your outfit to avoid looking too busy.
Bags and Shoes
The right bag and shoes can complete your look. For casual outfits, crossbody bags or backpacks are practical and stylish. For evening outfits, opt for clutches or small, elegant handbags. When it comes to shoes, ankle boots, loafers, and sneakers are great for daytime, while heels and heeled boots are perfect for the evening.
Choosing the Right Over-the-Knee Socks
Not all over-the-knee socks are created equal. When choosing the right pair, consider the following factors:
Material
The material of your socks will determine their comfort and suitability for different occasions. Wool and cotton blends are great for warmth and everyday wear, while silk and lace are ideal for evening looks.
Fit
The fit of your socks is crucial. They should be snug enough to stay up without being too tight. Look for socks with elastic bands or silicone grips at the top to prevent them from slipping down.
Color and Pattern
Choose colors and patterns that complement your wardrobe. Neutral colors like black, gray, and beige are versatile and can be worn with almost anything. If you want to make a statement, go for bold colors or patterns like stripes, polka dots, or floral prints.
Conclusion
Over-the-knee socks are a versatile and stylish accessory that can effortlessly take you from casual days to classy nights. With the right styling and accessories, they can be a key component of your wardrobe, providing both comfort and elegance. Whether you’re running errands during the day or heading out for a sophisticated evening, over-the-knee socks are your perfect fashion ally. Embrace this trend and experiment with different looks to find the perfect combination that suits your personal style.

2024.05.31 05:55 steveman122 Encounter with a Unicorn

In Eterna forest, the rain season came in intermittent waves, leaving a shining gloss over the region. The late-day sun trickled through the treetops in droplets and the ground sparkled ethereally in its gentle glitter. One rock was so covered in moss that it no longer seemed a part of the earth, but rather a shaggy creature that had come to rest there. The sky seemed to glow green as the leaves rustled and shook so each one could be seen. A young boy, no more than twelve, clambered across the difficult terrain in haste. He carried a colorful backpack from school which contained a motley assortment of notebooks and binders. His wooden-brown hair carelessly tossed across his youthful face, nearly covering a set of bright green eyes that sparkled in thrilled exuberance at the prospect of his adventure.
The boy crossed a small creek methodically. By jumping precisely from rock to rock, he managed to avoid any contact with the flowing water. He marched on through the undergrowth until the forest opened up. A majestic river appeared in the clearing, about the width of a football field. Near the shore, there was an ancient tree whose tall roots grew apart so as to form a chamber between them. He stripped his coat, removed his backpack, and placed them there for safekeeping.
Halfway across the river, there was a small island overgrown with bushes. That was the boy's island which he had claimed roughly three years prior on his first solo venture into these woods. He returned to it at regular intervals to ensure no one else had encroached upon his rights. Roughly monthly crossings were necessary to ensure his claim to the island remained intact. There was no way to evict any squatters — like the nesting Canada geese that hissed at him and sometimes attacked him — but he would return anyway to ensure his claim because it was his and that much he knew.
So he set out across the river. He dipped his toes into the water and slowly plodded deeper until he was wading. His breath tremored and his body began to quake and shiver as he broke out into a swim. The current carried him downstream, but he had planned for it in deciding his initial trajectory. He swam until his hands began to scrape the bottom again. Then he resumed wading until he came to shore.
On the sandy riverbed, the boy removed his shoes and his socks which had become sodden. The island was small but private, with shrubs thick enough to cover his entire body. Sand caked on his feet, collecting in a thin layer over his clothes and in his pockets. The wind tossed sediment all over the terrain, so he covered his eyes with his elbow to shield himself from it. He made his way to his hideout, an alcove in a large rock structure near the island's center.
But before reaching his hideout he noticed something strange in a glade. It was a white horse, but its fur had an indescribable ethereal nature to it. It was gleaming like a dragonfly or maybe rosegold? The creature lay horizontally, with its hooves under its chest. On its head was . . . a horn. This was a unicorn! Its chest moved magnificently in heavy breaths. Yet the creature was totally, eerily, silent.
Its moonlight fur — he settled in his mind on this description — was not the slightest bit dirtied as he was. The creature was so tragically beautiful and it slept in such peace that the mere act of disturbing it might cause him to despair. He decided to watch the beast until it awoke. There were no places to sit entirely free of nettles or thorns, but he sat anyway. Quickly and inexplicably sleep began to seep into his mind. The dreamy aura exuding from the creature overwhelmed him until he passed into a state of active dream.
He knew he had fallen asleep, yet nothing about his situation seemed to have changed other than the fact that the beast was now upright and stood before him. It brought its nose to him and nudged him with it. So he petted its silvery mane and noticed that a rainbow had formed in the sky. The beast's fur was soothing to his skin and magnetic so he could not remove his hand from it. He looked into its eyes.
Awake now, the boy was lifted out of the mud and he found himself again at the edge of the island, facing the direction in which he came. His nettle stings were healed, and the creature was gone. There was a strange sense of understanding inside him. Absent was any desire to tell anyone about the event or to return to the island once more.
From that day onward, only did he ever wonder if others had been blessed by the unicorn as he had been that one magical afternoon.

2024.05.31 03:32 spikiki How important is it to switch from a size 1 needle to a size 2 for socks?

I’m making my first pair of socks and I switched the pattern I’m making since I bought my supplies. Original pattern only needed a size 1 but I switched to the Rye sock pattern where it calls for a size 1 for the ribbing and a size 2 for the rest. I’m looking to just keep things simple and stick to the pattern without modifications (like for the stitch count and that kinda stuff) since it’s my first pair, but all the yarn shops are closed because it’s 9:30 at night and I don’t feel like buying size 2’s for this venture if I don’t really actually have to. Sock knitters, does bumping up a needle size like that make your finished socks fit better at all, or does it not really matter? And yes I plan to watch the gauge (I’m just going to knit a bit and then gauge it as I work instead of doing a swatch) but I’m just wondering how much of a difference, if any, going up a needle size like that makes. Thanks guys!

2024.05.31 00:40 Pretty_Explanation39 Shoes recommendations…

I am window shopping for new tennis shoes. I’ve had Asics Gel Resolution 8 since last summer and needing a new on since the bottoms are worn out.
I run and chase a lot and noticed my left shoe is more worn out that my right shoe. I also tend to crack my big toe nails from suddenly stopping. I need shoes that protects my big toes.. I use a pretty thick athletic socks but at the same time I think I just need new shoes.
I play twice or up to 4 times a week, minimum 2hrs, max 4hrs. I always challenge myself to run towards drop shots and so I run and stop suddenly a lot.
Any recommendations??

Kill la kill: I spit on your grave (Part 50: Go get some beignets!)
(Art by MatoiRisu on TwitteX)
New Orleans, USA, April 27th, 1926
Well, I guess that froggy crap is over. I'm human again, so is Tiana and Naveen as well as Buzz and Gamagoori, eventually. I don't think Louis will become one though. Anyway making my way back to New Orleans on foot with Isaac. When we made it back to the city, we walked all over the French quarter, which was now booming with people. Cleanup crews were removing the bodies of the rat bastards I killed and Nonon's shredded body and severed head were loaded into a hearse to be taken away. I guess her body stays in NOLA. Anyway me and Isaac ran all over the city all day before we both eventually found a very dark alleyway, going into it, we expected rat bastards but saw none. We instead saw a sign above a door saying "Dr. Facilier's voodoo emporium."
Ryuko: I guess this is it? We gonna loot this dead freak's place or what?
Isaac: I'd be very careful Ryuko. Don't take anything you might think is cursed.
Ryuko: Alright. I'll be cautious.
When we walked into the desolate emporium, it was dark, so I decided to slam my new, green scissor blade into the ground, sparks shot out and each spark hit a candle wick illuminating the shop.
Isaac: Damn! Very effective that was.
Ryuko: Oh yeah, let's see what we can get.
I reached around Isaac's back and slid my fingers up to his neck before I ran forward, he stood and blushed for a moment as I began to look around what kind of magic artifacts he had. At first I saw nothing of value, just useless voodoo masks and coffins as well as African drums.
Ryuko: Hm? Nothing at all?
I went over to the bookshelf and I started tossing each and every book off, looking for anything behind the books, when I got halfway there, I pulled a book that was fake and instead was a disguised lever that caused the bookshelf to slide to the side, revealing a staircase in the dark!
Ryuko: A staircase, let's see where it leads.
Isaac: Let me go with you.
Isaac took a candle and we both went up the stairs until we saw a big, sturdy wooden door that was unlocked. When we opened it we saw what seemed to be Dr. Facilier's bedroom. It was relatively clean along with an alarm clock and some more books and voodoo masks.
I looked to the side and saw some magical orbs under glass containers, each orb had a description on how to use it. The first case had two magic orbs inside of it labelled "Frog song". I looked closer and I began to read it out loud to Isaac.
Ryuko: Frog song. A hypnotic and transmutation magic that turns any nearby people into frogs. Frogsong is powerful and hard to cure, it can only be cured by Holy magic or if the transmuted frog kissed a princess before a certain time. The certain time frame can be from three days to a week, but past that only Holy magic can reverse the effects. Frog song summons a leaf whistle into the user's hands they blow into to make a lullaby that causes anyone who hears it to turn into a frog and slip into a deep sleep. Upon waking up they will realize they are a frog. Frog song cannot be used on angels, people who already can use frogsong, or children. Crush orb to learn the magic.
Isaac: Interesting. There's two in there.
Ryuko: Let's take em'!
I lifted the glass case and me and Isaac took the orbs, about ready to crush them.
Isaac: Wait! I'll crush mine first. If it turns me into a frog, don't crush yours.
Ryuko: Smart idea. I hope when we crush these it telepathically teaches us and gives us the ability to use this magic.
Isaac: Alright... Here I go first. Un, deux, trois!
Isaac squeezed the orb and crushed it, breaking it the orb sent a small green light circling around Isaac a few times before it flew into him and disappeared, green sparkles then emanated from Isaac for a few seconds before Isaac's eyes opened wider!
Isaac: I-I learned it! I know how to use it. It telepathically taught me! Ryuko! Your turn!
Ryuko: Sweet!
I crushed my orb next and I saw the same green light circle my head a few times before it flew into me and those green sparkles emanated from me for a few seconds.
Isaac: You're so sparkly, Ryuko.
Ryuko: Heh heh, you too Isaac.
The knowledge of how to use frogsong hit me like a bombshell. The same magic Nonon used on me to curse me into a frog!
Ryuko: Holy sh-t! I know the magic too!
Isaac: Best part is that we can't turn each other into frogs now that we both know it and can use it!
Ryuko: Hell yeah! Now, to the next case.
The second case only had one brown orb in it. I looked at it's label and I began to read it to Isaac out loud.
Ryuko: Voodoo strike. This spell can only be used once a day, but if used successfully by channeling the magic to your fist and punching a victim, you gain a voodoo doll of them. This voodoo doll had a red heart on the chest you can poke to instantly kill the victim but you can also torture them or instantly kill them in other ways by destroying the voodoo doll, ripping it's head off, etc.
Isaac: You want it?
Ryuko: Hell yeah! You can take the last one, which is that book next to it.
Isaac: A book? Oui!
I opened the next case and crushed the orb, a brown light circled me for a few seconds and I emanated brown sparkles, the orb telepathically taught me this magic and gave me the ability to use it.
Ryuko: Oh hell yeah! This is gonna be fun once I use it on Wiz and Boomstick. I don't like doing mean things anymore, but I'll gladly torture those two with this.
Isaac: Easy now, we are gaining power in extreme levels, but with great power comes great responsibility. We must use these for good.
Ryuko: True. I suppose I can use these for good, somehow, albeit these magic powers are meant to harm and humiliate. Heck, Voodoo strike can probably be used to kill the biggest baddest fighters ever!
Isaac: Yeah. Now I call dibs on le livre.
We walked over to the last case and Isaac leaned over to read it's label out to me.
Isaac: Magic book of diseases. This book is a powerful but deadly magic weapon used in the wrong hands. It's bookmark is meant to be hanging out away from the user and towards a victim. This book upon opening up to any page and reading it completely and correctly in English to an enemy with the bookmark pointing at them will cause the victim to contract whatever disease you just read about. This book looks like an encyclopedia of diseases, but it's a weapon used to give a victim a disease listed in this book. The diseases here bypass vaccinations and summon those disease causing pathogens into their body. This book has plenty of diseases listed here such as the Spanish flu, tuberculosis, smallpox, measles, scarlet fever, diphtheria, whooping cough, typhoid fever, malaria, meningitis, syphilis, bubonic plague, food poisoning, leprosy, common cold, rabies, lymphoma, leukemia, testicular cancer, thyroid cancer, brain cancer, stomach cancer, liver cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, vaginal cancer, penile cancer, heart attack, stroke, seizures, depression, and dementia. This book is an extremely deadly weapon, the red bookmark pointing out of the front should be treated like the barrel of a gun. If that bookmark is pointing out in front of someone and you read an article completely and correctly, you will give them a disease. All the non-cancer diseases listed will immediately materialize in the victim in a peak state. Heart attacks and strokes will be instant too. Also this book has the ability to cause pandemics. Use this with utmost extreme caution as this weapon is not only the perfect murder weapon, but it can cause a pandemic too.
Ryuko: Holy shit... Look, Isaac, take the book if you want, but you better f-cking know what you're doing when it comes out. You sure you don't want to burn this?
Isaac: Ryuko. I promise on my very life and soul I will rarely use this book if I acquire it. I will use it with extreme responsibility. This is not something to be taken light.
Ryuko: I hope so. Isaac, keep that book safe on you at all times. Got it?
Isaac: Oui.
Isaac gulped before he lifted the glass case and took the cursed book with him. He looked around for a bag to put it in, he found a satchel with some money in it, so he put the book into it, nestled with all the cash.
Ryuko: Look! A fourth case
Isaac: What? Really?
Both of us ran to the forth case and looked into it, it was a small sack with something inside of it. It had a label on it that I was to read out loud to Isaac.
Ryuko: Voodoo talisman. This talisman is white, it's in a sack which is not clothing, however once someone touches the talisman, the talisman turns to their corresponding colors permanently and it becomes there, you can use it to summon friends from the other side. Be careful because if it breaks, you will be dragged by the voodoo spirits into hell where the spirits will erase your soul and body from existence. Carry it in the sack if you don't want it to become yours, this will activate if you touch the bare talisman with even a gloved hand or shoe. Use this if you manage to lose your first talisman and need a new one. Hope the first one doesn't break either.
Ryuko: This can be interesting.
Isaac: I'm not summoning demons.
Ryuko: No, I've got a plan for it. I'll take it in the sack and put it in the satchel.
Isaac: Ryuko, we're messing with forces beyond our comprehension. I think we need to be very f-cking careful for now on.
Ryuko: Yeah. Just keep the talisman in the little sack. It can help us summon voodoo spirits and cast curses and do many things if we use it, or we can cast it out of the bag and literally use it to get rid of anyone in the world without repercussions. It just needs to bounce off of them and hit the ground, shatter and then they'll be hearing "Are you ready?" like the ol' shadow man.
Isaac: I think that's enough. We should leave.
I felt myself agree with him.
Ryuko: Yeah. Let's go.
We ran out of the voodoo emporium and ran to the nearest fashion store where we used Dr. Facilier's money in the satchel to buy me a new set of clothes, after all I can't be naked under a cloak forever. For an hour I looked around as Isaac went with me and helped me out. We saw brown pants, church shoes, socks, underwear, a vest, a white shirt a tie and a white hat. I tried it on and liked it, so Isaac used some of the money from Dr. Facilier's satchel to buy it, I changed into my new suit and tipped my hat at Isaac upon stepping out.
Isaac: Sacre bleu! You're gorgeous!
Ryuko: Aw, thanks! Come on, let's go find our little friends.
Off we went again, we looked for Tiana and Naveen around town until we saw the duo walking into the Fenner bros real estate office. We followed them in before they sat down at the table before the Fenner brothers, discussing buying the old derelict sugar mill Tiana wants to turn into a restaurant.
Tiana: How much are we outbid by?
Fenner 1: Roughly $2,000
Fenner 2: This bid is about to end.
Ryuko: Huh, $2,000? That ain't jack sh-t.
Tiana, Naveen, and the Fenners turned towards us.
Fenner 1: That's a lot of money! Six months of someone's average salary here in New Orleans
Isaac: Oui, Ryuko, 1926 money has a much higher inflation value than our time.
Ryuko: Oh sh-t. I didn't know that.
Fenner 2: Your time?
Ryuko: Forget about it. Will this cover their restaurant?
I reached into Isaac's satchel, used the magic disease book to lift the small sack with the neutral talisman out of it before dumping the money out onto the desk. However after dumping the money the next dimensional stone which was colored red dropped onto the desk too. I quickly snatched the dimensional stone and put it in my pocket before putting the magic book and sacked talisman back into the bag.
Ryuko: The stone is mine! We got it Isaac, it's our ticket out of here!
Isaac: Alright, but maybe not yet.
Tiana and Naveen gasped in shock.
Tiana: R-Ryuko. You didn't have to do that.
Naveen: Yeah, we just came in to ask if there were any other properties.
Ryuko: Well, guess that you got the one you wanted first right?
Fenner 1: $2,001 dollars and sixty-six cents.
Fenner 2: You are officially in the lead.
Fenner 1: Unfortunately your time to bid has ra-
Suddenly, Louis the gator snuck into the officer, rose up and growled at the two men, scaring them into submission.
Fenner 1: You know what, you win! Take the keys! We'll take your money!
The Fenners scooped up all the money on the desk and ran away, Louis then spoke to us.
Louis: I'm bummed out I can't be human like y'all but can I at least play in a band at the restaurant?
Tiana: Sure you can! We're just gonna need to do some improvements and get it up and running. Little by little.
Ryuko: Count us in! We'll help you out.
Isaac: You sure, Ryuko?
Ryuko: Sure. We'll help Tiana and Naveen fix up their restaurant if we work hard enough and we'll have Tiana's cooking for dinner. She seems like a pretty good cook.
Tiana: Aw... That's so nice of you.
Naveen: Ryuko, Isaac, for being such great friends to us, we will award you free meals for life!
Tiana: Wait! Oh, okay, fine. You guys indeed help save us. We have all the thanks and gratitude for you.
Ryuko: Thanks! So, let's make the progress worth it, Isaac?
Isaac: What about Mako?
Ryuko: Yeah. Oh gosh... We're gonna have to save her. I can't forget about her. I know the configuration of this place and it's dimensional stones, we'll save Mako, come back and I am a million percent sure she would love to go on a date here.
Isaac: Oh yeah?
Suddenly Gamagoori and Buzz walked in, now as humans wearing 1920s attire.
Buzz: I'm human again, however I agreed to help Tiana and Naveen work on their project. You go on and save your friend. We'll be done with the restaurant in a week. I think you can just move the stones back in the configuration you had them in to reopen the portal to this world, you can bring me out of there.
Ryuko: Thank you Buzz!
Buzz: No problem, I'm still mortified I was an amphibian for a couple of days, but even though I have a job to do at Star command, I'll help out with this side mission. Just don't forget about me.
Ryuko: Sure thing. Gamagoori, Isaac, you guys ready?
Isaac: Oui!
Gamagoori: Yes! I'm ready to save help save Mako.
Ryuko: Alright! Let's get a move on!
I beckoned the two outside and I dropped the red wedge-shaped dimensional stone on the floor, opening up a portal in front of us, we all hopped through and we were back at the old Nudist beach in 2018.
Ryuko: Woo! That was a doozy.
Gamagoori: I'm sorry about Nonon, I'm still angry at her for what she did to us, but she didn't deserve to go out like that.
Isaac: I literally cut her arm of for trying that on me.
Ryuko: Good thing Isaac stopped her, or else we could have never escaped in time. I don't know how much we have left.
Isaac: Nonon did try to use her magic on me and I heard some of the music and got a little tired. I stopped her before it got out of hand though as I felt my toes and legs get weird. I wonder what they look like.
Isaac unbolted the armored boots he had on, taking them off, he soon removed his smelly dirty sock before revealing his feet. They were still human feet but they had f-cking webbing between the toe!
Gamagoori: Goodness gracious! Your toes are webbed!
Ryuko: Ugh! Gross!
Isaac: Well, it's not all bad.
Isaac put his sock back on before slowly putting and bolting his armored boot back on.
Isaac: Look what she did to my calf muscle.
Even though Isaac's calf muscle looked untouched, it was changed somehow in the inside. Isaac squatted down and turned to the massive tower inside of the giant, cavernous domed nudist beach base and hopped all the way to the top like a frog! I saw this and was utterly impressed!
Ryuko: WOO! You jumped freaking high dude! You're on the top of that tower!
Isaac hopped off of it again and nearly touched the top of the dome before landing all the way back down in front of me on his legs, unharmed.
Ryuko: You know what? You might have gotten some of that curse, but at your level you're still a human with the ability to jump high distances! That's no curse, that's a f-cking gift!
Isaac: Yep, except Nonon didn't have those intentions for me. Now she's dead.
Ryuko: Yeah, what a shame.
Isaac: Alright, want to go to the next world or take a rest.
Ryuko: Let me find my original clothes first, hold on.
I ran around until I soon found my original street clothes in a pile on the ground. I ran over to them, took my 1920's attire off and put my original street clothes back on. I then spotted my guitar case with my scissor blade collection inside so I opened the case and put my old 1920's attire inside, before closing it, I looked to see all of my scissor blades were still inside, nobody stole them luckily.
Ryuko: I got the one my dad made, I got Nui's scissor blade, I got the alien scissor blade, and Joyeuse, I wonder what this frog looking scissor blade can do.
I took my guitar case with me, using the strap to hang it off my back before I laid down and looked straight up into the dome above.
Ryuko: Hold tight Mako, we'll save you.
Suddenly, Isaac ran over to me, asking if I was okay.
Isaac: Ryuko! Are you okay?
Ryuko: Yeah, I'm fine. I just need to rest.
Isaac: Perhaps I should show you this by the way.
Isaac pulled out another small sack, it was given to him by Mama Odie.
Isaac: Mama Odie gave it to me, I wonder what's inside. She told me it had magic orbs and potions inside.
Emptying the sack, I saw two magical orbs and a potion. The magical orbs were both the same being white with red lines all over it.
Ryuko: You know Isaac, maybe I'll let you have the potion. I wonder about the magical orbs.
Isaac: Ladies first?
Ryuko: Alright.
I smashed the orb with my hand and I saw a white light circle me before flying into me, white sparkles the emanated from me before I took a deep breath.
Ryuko: Curaga. I can heal. Curaga!
Isaac: Well! I guess I can too!
Isaac smashed his magic orb, causing the same effects that happened to me to happen to him. He also telepathically learned curaga too.
Ryuko: Now I really like you. You want the potion, maybe find a way to test what it could be? We could look for a mage, we do use magic after all.
Isaac: Oui?
Isaac took the small bottle and opened it. he stared into it for a minute which it contained a thick light blue liquid inside. He closed his eyes and uttered a prayer before he gulped the whole thing down. I felt a little shocked not knowing what that was so I yanked the bottle away from him!
Ryuko: Isaac, what the f-ck!?
Isaac: This potion, it's... delicious! It tastes like a milkshake!
Isaac took the potion back and drunk up the rest! He threw the bottle to the side before a purple aura surrounded him a few seconds later and he rose into the sky!
Ryuko: Uh, Isaac?
Isaac's arms and legs spread as he saw a few orbs manifest before him. The orbs were familiar, one had an image of both Tiana and Naveen, another was an image of Louis the alligator, another one was a picture of Buzz Lightyear, another one had a picture of me on it!
Ryuko: Those orbs, you've been given the power to use dimensional links!
Isaac: Dimensional links huh?
Ryuko: Yes, I'll have to train you to use them though, you can call power from others, but I saw one of me, does that mean, you can use my power?
Isaac: M-maybe?
Ryuko: Dang! Do I get one of you?
Isaac: I think you should. Reciprocals and all of that.
Ryuko: That's awesome... Also Isaac?
Isaac: Oui, Ryuko?
I then snatched Isaac by his front collar and pulled him closely, speaking to him in a serious and confrontational manner to scold him for impulsively drinking that potion.
Ryuko: Do not ever f-cking drink any unmarked potions like that ever again! Are you stupid? Trying to die? You don't know what could have been in that bottle, it could have been poison, or disease. I thought you were smart.
Isaac: I-I'm sorry. It's just I did it on impulse. I'm tired and need a shower after all. So do you.
Ryuko: You better never "do something on impulse" again. You're an educated man, an engineer, engineers don't do sh-t on impulse.
Isaac: Alright... Sigh, I learned my lesson.
Ryuko: I'll kick your ass if you endanger your life like that again. You're educated, act like it. Now that this is water under the bridge, I guess I need a rest and a shower too.
Isaac looked down in shame after I scolded him. I just sighed but it's not because I think he's a moron or anything... No, I care about him. He was there for me when I got raped in the bathroom months ago, saving my life. Ever since I've travelled with him, I've... Been wanting to travel with him more. Sure, Uzu and Gamagoori are great help, but I feel Isaac has something amazing about him. Something that I can't let go to waste.
I'll think about this and reflect. Right now, I'm gonna go shower and rest. Isaac needs to as well. I've got the other dimensional stones all together, I just need to place the red one down with the rest next and off we go to the next world. Also, Gamagoori has been rather quiet since we've gotten back. He's watched us from afar.

What comes to mind when you think of compression stockingsWhat comes to mind when you think of compression stockings? Thick, wool socks and the dead of winter? In actuality, summer compression stockings are just as popular. The sweltering heat can add several obstacles for those who need compression gear and people with summer leg health concerns. Keep reading to find out how to pivot from your winter needs and wear compression stockings comfortably this summer!

Who Needs Compression Stockings In The Summer?

https://preview.redd.it/zbf9tlmnuh3d1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=4aff8d2c06602fbc9336c223057bced6910fc54d
Compression stockings help with many summer foot health issues by improving blood flow, reducing the risk of blood clotting and reducing heat-related swelling.
These benefits can become more imperative in the summer for many people. First, you may amp up your traveling, which can lead to spending long hours cooped up in planes, trains and cars – wreaking havoc on your lower leg health. They’re also essential for those with health concerns that are exacerbated by heat, like chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis, and pregnancy.

Best Comfortable Compression Wear for the Summer

SIGVARIS SEA ISLAND COTTON AND LINEN SUMMER COMPRESSION STOCKINGS
The number one thing to remember when inquiring about summer compression stockings? Cotton!
You should wear socks made with cotton since it’s a natural fibre that also functions as a water absorber, letting air in and out while wicking away excess summer foot sweat. In other words, cotton socks are breathable, lightweight and have solid ventilation. Additionally, you may want open-toe designs for extra airflow.
When it comes to practical and stylish compression stockings, Sigvaris can’t be beat. Their linen and sea island cotton socks are especially good for the summer. With this special and rare cotton, they feel luxurious to the touch. But their lightness and breathability without sacrificing compression levels (they’re available in 15-20 mmHg and 20-30 mmHg) are what makes them perfect for the warmest months.
The best part? These stockings also blend in perfectly with your summer outfits and don’t look like a typical medical device. To the eye, they look exactly like stylish, comfy socks. It’s the best of both worlds!

2024.05.30 16:35 DrajonsAreEpic Frog & Toad Grafting Problems

Frog & Toad Grafting Problems
I’m making Frog & Toad using Frog & Cast’s pattern but have gotten stuck at the part where you undo the provisional cast-on and graft it shut. I’ve previously used the Kitchener stitch successfully before but here it looks to me like purls instead of knits. I think that part of the problem is that the provisional cast on had the start of round at the back-middle of the head instead of on the side, but closing it up by dividing the stitches between left and right so it can be closed up from back to front would definitely be wrong (there are no good pictures of the back of the heads in the pattern, but it doesn’t look like the creator did it that way either). So instead I split the stitches into front and back needles and moved the working yarn to the correct spot. I tried it both ways shown in the photo, and both had the same results. I also tried to mitigate the corner ears so don’t pay too much attention to the ends. I’m still a pretty new knitter, my only other completed projects are socks, so I don’t have the technical expertise to diagnose this properly. Should I try grafting them backwards, purling off the front and knitting off the back? Is there a different grafting method I should try? Or do I just need to live with these results? Seems unlikely that the pattern would tell me to go to all the trouble doing of a provisional cast on if it’s impossible to actually make the seam invisible, I probably could have done a neater job of starting with a normal cast on and sewing it shut. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Complete Her Look with Adorable Knee High Socks for Girls to Match Any Outfit
Knee High Socks for Girls
In the ever-evolving world of fashion, one accessory that has stood the test of time and continues to make waves is the humble knee-high sock. Once considered a staple of school uniforms and winter wardrobes, knee-high socks have transcended their traditional roles to become a versatile and stylish addition to any girl's outfit. From playful patterns to classic solids, knee-high socks can enhance any look, making them an essential accessory for girls of all ages. This article explores the myriad ways knee-high socks for girls can complete and complement any outfit, offering tips on how to choose the perfect pair and style them for various occasions.
The Versatility of Knee-High Socks
Knee-high socks are not just practical; they are incredibly versatile. They can be worn in any season, layered for warmth in winter or styled for a fresh look in spring and summer. The beauty of knee-high socks lies in their ability to adapt to different fashion trends and personal styles. Whether your girl prefers a preppy, sporty, or chic look, there's a pair of knee-high socks that will perfectly complement her wardrobe.
Choosing the Right Knee-High Socks
When selecting knee-high socks, consider the following factors to ensure they match your girl's outfits perfectly:
  1. Material: The material of the socks plays a crucial role in both comfort and style. Cotton and wool are ideal for cooler weather, offering warmth and breathability. For a more luxurious feel, opt for socks with a blend of silk or cashmere. Synthetic blends can provide elasticity and durability, making them perfect for everyday wear.
  2. Color and Pattern: Knee-high socks come in a vast array of colors and patterns. Solid colors are versatile and can be paired with almost any outfit, while patterned socks can add a fun and playful element. Stripes, polka dots, and floral designs are popular choices that can add a touch of personality to an ensemble.
  3. Fit and Length: Ensure the socks fit well and stay up without being too tight. Knee-high socks should reach just below the knee for a classic look. For younger girls, ensure the socks are not too tight around the calves to avoid discomfort.
Styling Knee-High Socks for Different Occasions
Knee-high socks can be styled in numerous ways to suit various occasions. Here are some ideas to inspire you:
Casual Day Out
For a casual day out, pair knee-high socks with a cute skirt or dress. This look is both comfortable and stylish, perfect for a day at the park or a trip to the mall. Choose socks in a fun pattern or bright color to add a pop of personality. Complete the outfit with a pair of sneakers or ballet flats for a look that's effortlessly chic.
School Days
Knee-high socks are a great addition to school uniforms, adding a touch of individuality while adhering to dress codes. Opt for classic colors like navy, black, or white to match the uniform. Ribbed or cable-knit styles add texture and interest without being too flashy. Paired with a pleated skirt and a blazer, knee-high socks can make your girl look smart and put-together.
Special Occasions
For special occasions like birthday parties or family gatherings, knee-high socks can add a touch of elegance to a girl's outfit. Choose socks in a delicate lace or a subtle shimmer to elevate the look. Pair them with a fancy dress and Mary Jane shoes for a timeless, sophisticated ensemble. Soft pastel colors or neutral tones work well for these events, creating a refined and polished appearance.
Sporty Chic
If your girl is into sports or enjoys a more laid-back style, knee-high socks can be the perfect accessory. Pair them with athletic shorts and a sporty top for a look that's both practical and fashionable. Look for socks with sporty stripes or logos to complete the ensemble. This look is not only stylish but also functional, providing extra coverage and support during physical activities.
Seasonal Styling Tips
Knee-high socks can be adapted to fit any season, making them a year-round staple. Here are some tips for styling them throughout the year:
Spring and Summer
In warmer months, opt for lightweight materials like cotton or linen to keep your girl's legs cool and comfortable. Knee-high socks can be paired with sundresses, skirts, or shorts for a fresh and breezy look. Pastel colors and floral patterns are perfect for spring, while brighter hues and fun designs work well for summer.
Fall and Winter
As the weather cools down, knee-high socks can provide an extra layer of warmth. Look for thicker materials like wool or cashmere blends. Pair them with boots and layered outfits, such as skirts with tights or dresses with cardigans. Earth tones, plaids, and deeper colors are ideal for fall, while festive patterns and cozy knits are perfect for winter.
Caring for Knee-High Socks
To ensure your girl's knee-high socks stay in top condition, it's important to care for them properly. Follow these tips to extend the life of her socks:
  1. Wash with Care: Always follow the care instructions on the label. Most knee-high socks can be machine washed on a gentle cycle. Use a mild detergent to prevent damage to the fibers.
  2. Air Dry: To avoid shrinking or damaging the socks, air dry them instead of using a dryer. Lay them flat on a clean surface or hang them up to dry.
  3. Store Properly: Store socks in a drawer or organizer to keep them in good shape. Roll them instead of folding to prevent creases and stretching.
Conclusion
Knee-high socks are a timeless and versatile accessory that can enhance any girl's wardrobe. From casual days out to special occasions, they offer endless styling possibilities. By choosing the right material, color, and fit, and by caring for them properly, you can ensure that your girl always looks stylish and put-together. So, embrace the charm of knee-high socks and let them complete her look with flair and elegance. Learn more information: Hifen

2024.05.30 14:45 mansplanar 15 OUTFITS FOR WINTER DATE NIGHTS

While reaching for oversized sweaters, thick wool socks and fleece leggings is understandable in the throes of winter, it can be a hard habit to break when it's time to get dressed up. Choosing the right outfit for a winter date night can be extra challenging, but luckily you don't have to sacrifice style for warmth and comfort.
Factors to Consider
Before you pluck your most fashionable threads from the depths of your closet, you'll need to consider multiple factors: where you're going, what you'll be celebrating and what the weather is like. Here's where a little bit of planning ahead can go a long way.
Occasion
Are you going out with a group of friends, dressing to impress on a first date or planning some quality time with your significant other? Different occasions require different outfits.
Location
Whether you're headed to a lively bar crawl or attending an opening at a posh art gallery, you'll want to make sure your outfit captures the right vibe. Consider the dress code of the event as well as the location.
Weather
Check the forecast before you head out; you may not want to wear a skirt and tights if the night is especially nippy. Similarly, your favorite suede pumps might not be the most practical choice for making your way through wet flurries and slushy streets. If the temperature is milder and the sidewalks are clear, you can shed a layer or two and show off your sexy high-heel boots.
Styles to Consider
We asked Nordstrom stylist Rachel Boedecker (@thestyleeditco) for some general guidelines to follow, and she more than delivered.
Make a Statement
When dressing for the cold, your outer layer is just as important as what's underneath! It's the first and last thing people will notice as you arrive or depart. Rachel's tip: take your outerwear from drab to fab and bring your whole look together by incorporating a statement-making coat. To see Rachel's picks for statement outerwear, sign in here.
Go Beyond Cozy
Sometimes all you want to do when it's cold is cozy up in a supersoft sweater. Just because you have plans doesn't mean the sweater has to stay at home! Winter dressing is full of luxe textures beyond cozy sweaters. Rachel suggests mixing leather, suede, satin or even faux fur with your cozy knits to make them more interesting and add depth. Winter Date Night Outfit Options
We've put together 15 date night outfits for your next evening out this winter. You can always reach for your winter closet essentials, but consider incorporating the options below to create fresh looks for all your romantic occasions.
Trench Coat
A slim-fitting trench coat is the perfect garment to wear on your way to a live show or theater performance. Leave it open for a casual look, add a punch of color with a pretty silk scarf or opt for a touch of class with a simple pair of gold hoops or chandelier earrings.
Blazer Dress & Tights
Got a wine tasting to attend or an invitation to the opening night of an art gallery? A sleek blazer dress is the perfect blend of sophisticated and sexy. Pair it with monochromatic, fishnet or herringbone tights for a polished, alluring look.
Turtleneck Sweater & Skirt with Tall Boots
A chic turtleneck sweater will keep you feeling cozy and looking sophisticated, whether you go for an oversized style or something more fitted with shoulder cutouts. Pair it with a skirt and knee-high boots for an artsy vibe, perfect for seeing a movie or checking out the latest museum exhibit.
Long-Sleeve Sweater-Dress with Belt
Keep it simple and effortlessly chic with a long-sleeve sweater-dress in your favorite color. Equal parts comfortable and flattering, this option doesn't force you to choose function over style. Pair it with a belt to show off your figure and finish with a few delicate gold necklaces.
White Top & Jeans
Going on a more casual date? Whether you're grabbing coffee or going on an evening stroll through the park, you can't go wrong with a well-fitting pair of blue jeans and a crisp white top.
Blouse & Faux-Leather Pants
If you're meeting for drinks at the newest cocktail bar, faux-leather pants are the way to go. They offer the chance to incorporate texture into your outfit while adding an edge to an otherwise demure ensemble. Pair them with a feminine blouse and a pair of heels.
Blazer & Boyfriend Jeans
Pairing a blazer with boyfriend jeans will give you a polished, fashion-forward look that's still comfortable enough for whatever activity is on the agenda. May we suggest a paint-and-sip night or an evening of candle making? You'll get bonus points for originality, while your outfit certainly won't go unnoticed by your date.
Maxi Dress & Knee-High Boots
If you're going on a group date, stay cozy and comfortable in a soft, figure-hugging maxi dress. Wear it with knee-high boots and add some metal bangles, statement earrings or a long necklace.
Jumpsuit & Heels
A modern jumpsuit and heels are perfect for a bar crawl or house party. This is the time to break out the statement-making sequins—but if you're not ready to be the center of attention, choose a more subdued and streamlined cut that elongates your legs.
Monochromatic Look with a Pop of Color
Break up a tonal outfit with a long coat in a beautiful color. It's the perfect low-effort look for an outdoor date, whether you're admiring holiday lights or strolling hand in hand through a park.
Short Dress & Tights
You can wear almost any dress in the winter if you've got the right tights. Whether you're planning a trip to the mall or doing dinner and a movie, consider a comfortable short- or long-sleeve dress with the tights of your choice.
Midi Dress & Jacket
Even a classic everyday style like a midi dress can turn heads if you pair it with the right jacket and chic jewelry. This cozy, effortless look is ideal for a romantic evening out.
Long-Sleeve Top & Slipdress
Planning a casual game night but still want to make an effort? Wear a long-sleeve top underneath a pretty slipdress to show off your silhouette.
Leather Dress
Looking for something sleek and edgy that also complements your curves? A leather dress is just the thing for a rock concert or dinner date.
Cardigan & Slipdress
If you live in an area with mild winter weather, break out your favorite slipdress—but pair it with a cardigan to stay warm. This laid-back look is perfect for grabbing a casual dinner or perusing novels at an indie bookstore.
Figuring out how to dress up when it's cold out can often feel challenging. But the good news is that you've got lots of options for a comfortable, confident winter date night look, whether you prefer a low-key vibe or want to make a statement.

I recently had the pleasure of trying on a pair of the adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 'Carbon Beluga'. These shoes are a true work of art – the intricate patterned design is eye-catching, and the vibrant pops of color really make them stand out. The Primeknit upper is breathable and comfortable, allowing me to enjoy wearing these shoes every day.
One aspect that really stuck out to me was the responsive cushioning provided by the Boost midsole. The full-length cushioning made a huge difference in my stride, providing the perfect amount of comfort for a long day. However, despite their durability, I wouldn't recommend these shoes for aggressive activities due to their slightly delicate upper material.
Overall, the adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 'Carbon Beluga' is a stunning and comfortable pair of shoes that anyone would love to add to their collection.

🔗Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Mono Cinder Shoes: Lightweight Mesh, Monochrome Design, and Ultimate Comfort

https://preview.redd.it/zmkeexqgij3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ec9d6f1d05855951b7c749840b2f7529aa5e15c
When I first tried on the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Mono Cinder, I was immediately struck by its sleek and stylish design. The monochromatic look, combined with the semi-translucent TPU cage, made for an eye-catching pair of shoes that seemed to fit perfectly.
One of the most noticeable features was the Boost midsole, which provided an incredibly comfortable and supportive experience, even when walking or standing for extended periods. The shoe felt lightweight and breathable, making it a great option for both casual wear and everyday activities.
However, there were a few minor drawbacks that I encountered during my time with the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Mono Cinder. The translucent monofilament mesh upper, while visually appealing, seemed to pick up dirt and grime quite easily, which required more frequent cleanings than I would have liked. Additionally, the shoe's material caused some itchiness on the side of my ankles when wearing sports socks.
Despite these drawbacks, I found the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Mono Cinder to be a highly attractive and comfortable option for daily use. The shoe's combination of style, superior cushioning, and lightweight construction make it a standout choice for those looking for a unique and functional footwear option.

🔗Reflective Yeezy Boost 350 V2: Lundmark in Style and Comfort

https://preview.redd.it/ex1xca6hij3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82d04884f82869aff7a2d490448d749161007b79
I remember the first time trying on these Yeezy Boost 350 V2 'Lundmark Reflective' sneakers. The moment I put them on, I felt an instant connection to the unique design and the comfort provided by the Primeknit upper. It fit like a glove and the reflective details added a touch of brilliance to these shoes.
Running in these sneakers felt like walking on cloud nine, thanks to the Boost technology that offered a bouncy feel. However, after a while, I started to notice a slight discomfort on the bottom part of my feet.
It wasn't a deal-breaker, but I wasn't entirely satisfied with it. The durability was impressive, and the shoes held up quite well even after regular wear. Overall, the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 'Lundmark Reflective' offered an excellent combination of style and comfort, but with a slight concern regarding the cushioning for some users.

Slipping into the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Salt brought an immediate flair of comfort. The rope laces, securing the mint green Primeknit upper, ensured a snug, supportive fit. I loved the distinctive center-stitch detailing that added a unique touch to this sneaker.
Walking around, the SPLY-350 branding on the lateral side of the shoe caught the eye of many who admired my step. But, the shoe's responsive cushioning truly stole the show with its full-length Boost midsole. The semi-translucent TPU cage wrapped around it provided a stable, secure foundation.
Even the grippy rubber outsole played its part in enhancing my stride. However, I did notice that the shoe ran a bit too narrow. It also required a thicker socks to accommodate the slight tightness. Though these issues didn't spoil my overall experience, they remain a point to consider for those with wider feet.
Despite my minor concerns, I truly enjoyed wearing the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Salt. Its attractive appearance, coupled with the comfort it provided, made it a worthwhile investment in my wardrobe.

I recently had the chance to try on the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 'Onyx' HQ4540-US17, which was released quite recently. The first thing that caught my eye was the combination of black and white, along with the metallic red accents, inspired by the Chicago Bulls' team uniform colors. The design felt comfortable and not too flashy, making it a perfect choice for everyday wear. My favorite highlight of the shoe was the Primeknit upper material, which not only felt soft, but also provided a snug fit for my feet.
However, I did face an inconvenience when trying to buy the shoe. It seemed that I was sent counterfeit shoes instead of the correct black Adidas size 12.5 that I ordered. The lack of customer service phone numbers and a complicated process using only chat and email made it frustrating to resolve the issue. Despite the positive elements of the shoe, I can't recommend buying from StockX due to the poor customer service experience.

The upper material is made of Primeknit, providing both comfort and a secure fit on the foot. The cushioning is one of its biggest highlights, offering excellent support and comfort with the signature Boost midsole. Wearing these shoes feels like walking on clouds due to their well-designed, lightweight construction. Although the shoe may run a little small, it's easy to overcome this by going up a size or half size.
Overall, the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 'Beluga Reflective' is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a comfortable and trendy sneaker that stands out in any situation.

🔗Legend Blue Air Jordan 11 Retro: Stylish Graded-School Shoes

While walking around town, I couldn't help but notice the Air Jordan 11 Retro Legend Blue in my kid's footwear selection. The Jumpman logo emblazoned on the side of the shoes caught my eye and filled me with pride as a parent. Upon closer inspection, I admired the pristine white upper and the glossy Legend Blue accents. The shoes have a refined and rugged texture due to the leather construction.
When it comes to sizing, these shoes fit our child comfortably. The heel offered excellent lockdown, and the midfoot was also secure. However, after prolonged wear, the fit did loosen a bit due to moisture and heat buildup. The lacing needed to be adjusted after each game to counter this. This shoe stands tall with its high-cut design and signature details such as the carbon fiber plate on the midsole.
As for the performance, these Air Jordans are not lacking in sturdiness and strength. The leather upper and rubber sole added extra durability, ensuring our family won't have to worry about wear and tear right away.
One drawback, however, was the lack of ventilation. While there were perforations on the toe and a nylon tongue for some airflow, it wasn't enough to keep our child's feet from getting warm. Support-wise, the shoes are flat based and require extra insoles for added arch support if needed.
Putting all these things into account, the Air Jordan 11 Retro Legend Blue is a well-made and comfortable shoe that fits well. Although it could use some improvements in ventilation and support, the overall appearance and construction make it a great choice for adding a sporty flair to our child's look.

The packaging was impressive, with the model carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and encased in a sturdy cardboard box. It showed that the company takes great care in shipping their products, which is a plus.
Upon opening the box, I was immediately drawn to the intricate details of the model. From the sleek white finish to the realistic headlights and taillights, this 350 Legend Bcg model truly stands out. The chrome accents and badges really make the car pop, and I appreciate the attention to detail in those areas.
However, one drawback I noticed was the lack of any other color options for the model. As someone who enjoys having multiple versions of their favorite cars, I would have loved to see other color options.
Overall, the Shelby Collectibles Legend Series 1965 Shelby GT 350 1:43 scale model is a fantastic addition to any car lover's collection. With its impressive attention to detail and sturdy packaging, it's easy to see why this model has received such high praise from fellow enthusiasts.

I recently got my hands on the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 "Lundmark" sneakers, and oh man, I am in love. Kanye West sure did it again with these iconic summer releases. The shoe's creamy white shade mixed with grey tones across the intricate Primeknit upper is nothing short of amazing.
One of the cool things about this design is the translucent rubber sole unit that has the creamy tone on the midsole, making it a fantastic summer fashion statement. The Lundmark release also offers a slightly more streamlined silhouette with no large heel tab loops.
The comfort level is off the charts—from the Boost technology in the sole to the fitting Primeknit upper. However, I must warn you, these shoes do run a bit small, so make sure you order half a size up from your normal size.
The only con I've faced is the shipping prices, but hey, these kicks are worth the waiting time, don't you think? All in all, the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 "Lundmark" sneakers are a must-have for any Yeezy fan who is looking for a unique and stylish summer pair.

The ribbed midsole with embedded Boost cushioning adds a touch of comfort to these already stylish shoes.
As someone who's had the pleasure of experiencing these shoes firsthand, I can say they're surprisingly lightweight and provide excellent traction. However, I must admit that the toe box was a little tight for my taste, a minor downside that didn't take away from the overall appeal.
Overall, the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 "Carbon" is a must-have for any fashion enthusiast or sneakerhead, standing as a testament to Kanye West's ability to make a statement with every release.

Imagine strolling down the street in a sleek pair of shoes, attracting eyes and compliments left and right. That's exactly what happened when I slipped into a pair of Yeezy Boost 350s. The AGAGRA/MOONRO/AGAGRA colorway, or as it's more commonly known, the "Moonrock" version, caught my eye with its unique, intricately patterned upper and matching grey sole.
The comfort level of these shoes was on another level. The woven Primeknit material and TPU sole wrapping the Boost foam cushioning made each step feel like walking on a cloud. The fit was almost perfect, and I could tell that these shoes were made to last.
While the clean, minimalist design was a huge selling point for me, I also appreciated the attention to detail in the craftsmanship. The quality control was top-notch, and the authenticity of the shoes was never questioned.
However, just like any other product, there are a few drawbacks. For one, the white soles can be a bit tricky to maintain. I found myself constantly trying to keep them clean to maintain the overall look of the shoes.
Another minor issue was the initial waiting period to receive the shoes. It took a bit longer than expected, but the satisfaction of finally having them in my hands made it all worth it.
Overall, the Yeezy Boost 350 Moonrock was an amazing experience. The combination of style, comfort, and hype made these shoes stand out in my collection. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for a unique, comfortable, and timeless addition to their sneaker collection.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try out the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Beluga 2.0. As a sneaker enthusiast, I was excited to see how they compared to the original colorway. The shoe's design is sleek and minimalistic, with a Gray, Bold Orange, and Dark Grey color combo that appeals to a wide audience.
One of the highlights of the Yeezy Beluga 2.0 for me was the overall comfort. The sneakers have a responsive Boost midsole that provides excellent cushioning and support, making them perfect for all-day wear. The flat heel made them feel stable and secure, even during long walks. The lacing closure allowed for a custom fit that hugged my foot perfectly.
However, there were a few drawbacks to the shoe. Firstly, the size seemed to run a bit small, so I had to go up half a size for a comfortable fit. Secondly, some users reported issues with the shipping process, which can be frustrating, especially when waiting for a highly anticipated release.
In conclusion, the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Beluga 2.0 is a comfortable and stylish choice for sneaker enthusiasts. The unique colorway and minimalist design make it stand out from other Yeezy releases, and the Boost technology ensures a comfortable wear. While there are a couple of downsides, such as the size run and shipping issues, the overall product is worth considering, especially for those who appreciate the Yeezy silhouette.

Imagine slipping on a pair of sneakers that not only look fantastic, but also feel like walking on clouds. That's what the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 "Citrin" brings to the table. Launched in September 2019, this version of the iconic Yeezy model boasts a sleek design with its unique tan and pale yellow tints, making it a true statement piece.
The upper material, Primeknit, feels soft and breathable against your skin, providing a comfortable fit. The signature Boost cushioning adds a touch of luxury, making every step a dream. The translucent monofilament side stripes and translucent rubber midsole add an extra touch of style.
But, there's one feature that sets this version apart from others: the removal of the heel tab. It's a small change, but it adds a fresh look to the popular design.
While these sneakers are attractive and comfortable, they are not without their drawbacks. Some buyers have reported the need to order a size larger due to the fit being a bit snug. Additionally, the translucent nature of the shoe may not be ideal for those who prefer a more opaque look.
In conclusion, the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 "Citrin" is a stunning addition to any sneaker collection, offering both style and comfort. Despite a few minor drawbacks, it's definitely worth considering if you're a fan of the Yeezy line or are looking for a unique, eye-catching pair of kicks.

2024.05.30 02:17 Nicholooooooo Pull-ons and low volume feet

I tried emailing customer service for sizing advice and got more confused so I'm making my first post here after lurking for a while. To start, I have wide but low volume feet (think of diving flippers). I have a pair of 10 E HNW Americanas that fit well other than squeezing the pinky toes. I tried a 10 E ThurmanNW with some turnbulls but had to exchange them to get smaller uppers. Maybe the ThurmanNW is differs a little from the HNW or it could've been hand-made variation. I opted to try 10 EE lowers with 9 E uppers and that fit well until it started getting sloppy after some break-in (an extra insole helps though). I live in the southeast US so I would prefer to avoid anything thicker than Darn-Tough midweight socks. My goal is to have the boots fit as close as possible before doctoring with insoles.
The measurements for both feet:
Here are the questions:
  1. Between the Stationmaster and the Pullman, is either pattern better for low volume feet? I know the last is the major determining factor on fit, but it's also 2 different patterns.
  2. Is the general sizing advice for pull-ons the same as a lace-up Nick's size? I've read on here to go a half size down from normal Nick's size, but customer service told me to take the same size across all Nick's boots.
  3. If I were to order a pair of pull-ons, should I order a Thurman 10 E, 9.5 E, 9.5 EE, or something else entirely?
Any help is appreciated, especially from anyone else with flippers for feet. I would have posted this in the weekly sizing thread but I did not see it, so if this is not posted in the right spot, please don't crucify me.

2024.05.30 01:34 PotentialEvidence277 BUCKSHOT BORDEREAU -- Finalist for 2024 Kentucky Visions Short Story Contest

**COPYRIGHT NOTICE** ALL MATERIAL HERE IS SUBJECT TO COPYRIGHT © 2024 by J.C. Van Horn
Hey guys, check out this western I wrote. Sort of like an episode from Buster Scruggs or a bonus RDR2 mission.
“It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got, and all he's ever gonna have.”
William Munny, Unforgiven (1992)
The shotgun had been cold for weeks, but he knew it would shoot. His horse was very close to the fire, and he thought it might singe itself as it stood sleeping, so he watched the horse. His toes were warm with whitecorn liquor. His boots smelled terrible. He had short, iron facial hair that could degrime a ship’s hull. Eyes polished steel purple in the firelight. He took a small notepad and a pencil from his shirt pocket, and put the pencil in his mouth. He felt the thin, oily pages of the little book, and began to read the things he’d written in his rippling cursive hand:
Nov 28 1868 Folks now dont argue as much as they used to Glad for it dont like shooting folk Last one dont know if he lived or died gone too quick Hit his shoulder he fell hard Alive when I rode off so aint hit his heart Lady with him said shed get help reckon that she did
Dec 3 1868 Missing a good woman Asleep on a beach something like San Diego ? Tan color arms with white hairs Feet in the water every day Find her after this
Dec 8 1868 Got $9 from man in Pueblo Not mine but mine now
Dec 11 1868 Whinnies a good nag Man in Pueblo told me shed fetch good money Might have sold but I still need a horse Maybe dont sell just ride somewhere warm ? Heard theres fine women in Houston Got to think more on it
Dec 12 1868 Deep in the Rockies Hope to leave this mean land soon Stage coming through with money and joolry (learn how to spell joolry) Hitch a ride and rob when we get south ? Ha I’m nothing nice Can smell my self Cant wash too cold Cant build big fire or any one sees When done take Whinnie down the mountain fence the loot Moods good but damn cold
Then the gunslinger took the pencil out of his mouth and wrote:
Dec 13 1868 Stage tomorrow writing to keep sharp Saw a marmut today Didnt shoot shop meats easier less fuss about it Marmut looked happy Lucky happy basturd Guns are clean Whinnie is happy Lots of snow so lots of water 1 bottle of shine 47 cigs 25 revolver 13 shells 3 can bean 1 can pea 1 pound meat $23
And he put the little book away. He had eaten a fistful of smoked meat and a can of peas an hour earlier, but he might have been hungry again. He decided he was, and repeated the meal. He slept facing East and when the sun rose it woke him, the light breaking through the trees to dress the mountain in pale rags. Whinnie was awake before the morning. Her cremello coat always winked the dominant color of the landscape, so in the desert, she was an ember alight in the outlands: now, the faintest mint blue. The gunslinger spoke to her in a soft spell, “Oooh, sweet sweet–” and fed her sweetgrass stuck with snow, “oooh, sweet girl.” His song of no particular shape or pattern, but one he sang to her often.
He walked alone to the place where he would attack the stagecoach. The party would come through about midday because it had been in Pueblo two days ago, and the driver had made arrangements for Trinidad for this very night, and Trinidad was half a day away. He chose a spot where the road went sharply up and left, and even under the best circumstances, the driver would need to bank gently to not overturn the carriage. He sat behind a tree and smoked, but he did not carry his liquor. He ate a gloveful of snow from the pile he had made while clearing a place to sit. He thought about the story his Pueblo informant, Jota, had told him. It had been on his mind since he’d heard it—a love story, he knew, but did not remember if the man gave it a name. He thought he should remark the story in his notepad that night by the fire. If things went well, and he remembered to do it, he thought that he would. Then he thought that if he were captured by anyone, lawmen or some other, he would have to burn the little book if he could, and if he could not, he’d pull it into the air and blast it with the shotgun. He would do this even if the men seizing his bounty might shoot him down for doing so.
He heard the padding of hooves coming up the pass. By his ear, he measured about six horses. He went to his knees and hugged the tree with one arm to steady himself as he keeked down the road. A hard-looking man rode in front of the party with his rifle drawn and eyes awake. The stagecoach behind him was wide and red, and the driver wore a yellow bowtie. A second rider followed closely behind. Jota had not mentioned the riders, but the gunslinger could not be surprised at the prudence to hire guns before traversing the mountains. He knew then that if he took action, either he, or the riders, or all, must perish. He made amends with the facts of the matter and resolved himself to shoot as he must. He would roll out from behind the tree and aim the shotgun from one knee and set his sights to the front rider’s throat. The natural rise of his aim would send the meat of the buckshot into the hard man’s face. Then he would cover quickly and recock his weapon before sighting the other rider, who may flee, or be so taken by the swiftness of the attack as to fall just as easily. Once the gun thunder had all faded, he would quell the driver and the passengers, collect his due, and let the stage go along in peace. The plodding and padding of the hooves was louder now and it was time.
The gunslinger rolled over and raised up onto one knee. He aimed at the front rider’s throat and pulled the trigger. The rider’s head disappeared into a frightful pink slurry. His corpse slung down painlessly as his horse reared up and screamed, then turned and fled back down the road. The terrible shrieks of women came from inside the coach. The gunslinger shucked the spent shell, retook position behind the tree, and lay flat once more. The driver halted the carriage as the second rider came around with his own shotgun drawn. The gunslinger peered around and sighted him, but the rider fired first. Huge flakes of wooden shrapnel exploded from the tree. The gunslinger ducked back and made himself thin behind the trunk. The raucous boom of that shot could not have come from anything less than an eight bore, a gauge larger than a man’s thumb. The rider fired a second thunderclap shot that shredded the ground-broken roots of the tree and sprayed moss into the air. The gunslinger stayed where he was and only listened for hints of the enemy’s movement. All in an instant, he heard the opponent’s gun snap-break open, two empty shells clink softly onto the road, two new slugs slide smoothly into their pipes, and the crisp clack of it all closing again. The enemy’s horse trotted nervously along the ridge in the thin space between the road and the steep, treelined edge. The rider dismounted and landed coolly on both feet. With one arm, he kept his weapon trained on the assailant in the brush, and with the other, he thwacked the horse’s croup to get it to move. And it did move, fleeing up the road and not stopping. With the path now clear, the driver seized his moment and whipped up the four horses carrying the coach. Then he whipped again, and a third time.
The gunslinger could not move. His enemy came towards him, unshaken, with fingers on both triggers. Twin bores of teeth-chilling metal. One quarter-second from oblivion. The rider focused the entire span of his mortal attention on the vision before him, so in that moment when the stagecoach came racing up the bend, he did not hear the frightful crash of the breaking wheels, nor the shrill of the driver’s scream, all coming like Hell behind him.
Then the mountain was peaceful. The gunslinger shouldered the shotgun and leapt up onto the road. He saw the man he’d shot—a body, trampled by hooves and wheels, but no face. He walked on. A few yards up the road, where the embankment dropped off sharply, the heft of the carriage and the fallen horses had cleared the smaller trees away, so the gunslinger could see the deep, open country beyond. Twenty yards down the slope, a caboodle of horse flesh and wood and iron was draped around an old blue spruce. All hung together like a pair of boots sharing a single bastard lace. There were the sounds of horses dying but nothing moved.
The gunslinger sat in the road and smoked. He listened until there was no more noise, which took the time of two cigarettes. Finally, he got to his feet, stepped to the edge of the slope, then sat down on his ass again. He pushed the heels of his boots into the ground and grabbed the stump of a fallen sapling. He slid down the bank in cautious spurts as his heels pressed shallow tracks into the ground, and his hands shuffled from one hold to the next. Finally, he stood on an embedded hillside rock positioned two yards above the wreckage. He looked into the broken stagecoach, searching for anything alive or shiny.
“Please. God, help me. Someone.” The voice was weak and girlish. “Help me.” The gunslinger closed his eyes and shook his wide head. The girl was sobbing now. “Mother. Oh my God, mother please. No.” Her cries were desperate, awful things that were the sounds of someone already dead, mourning themselves on the other side of infinity. The carriage groaned and shifted an inch towards the profoundness below.
“Miss!” the gunslinger shouted. “Miss! Hold still!”
“Who's that? Oh my God, mother!”
“Don’t move! Don’t even talk!”
“Please wake up, momma.”
“Stop movin’, and stop talkin’, or we will not be talkin’ much longer!” The gunslinger moved down and used the rock now as a handhold. He made a new foothold of the remains of a broken tree, and in this new position he felt secure. He was closer now, so he lowered his voice. “I’m goin’ to save you, ma’am. But I don’t know how close I can get- don’t say nothin’! And don’t move ‘til I say.” The girl’s jumpy breath stopped, then started again, and he knew she had understood him. The gunslinger reached his right leg out to test its length, but it was too short to meet the next strongpoint. He was as close as one could be without stepping onto the mangled side of the carriage itself. “Alright,” he said. “Climb out towards my voice. Move slowlike, with real light feet.”
“I can’t leave her.”
“Save yourself, little darling,” the gunslinger said. “That’s what your momma would say. Save yourself.” Silence spread across the mountain as the moments passed. Finally, a light clamor came from inside the coach, and the gunslinger saw a thin hand probing out of the rear window. “That’s it,” he said. “I can see you. Keep comin’ thataway. Slowlike.”
“Not slowlike,” the girl said as she moved. “Just slow.” Her words were mechanical, of an absent mind. Now half of her body was outside the carriage. She was thin and beautiful. She had a small, straightline gash on the crown of her head, as though a fifty cent piece had penetrated her skull. The thick split of skin spilled fresh blood into her hair.
“I’m here,” the gunslinger said. The girl looked up at him. Blood filtered through her hair and into her eyes, so she could not see the repentant look on the man’s face. He retested the security of his right foothold, then stretched his left leg down towards her.
“Agh!” she shouted, and looked down at herself.
“What happened?” he asked.
“It’s my neck. Or my arm, I don’t know. It hurts so bad.”
“Other hand. Reach up here.” She did as the gunslinger said and grasped his boot. “Take it off,” he said. “It won’t have you hangin’ on it.” The girl took the boot off and dropped it away. The gunslinger could smell his own stink. “The sock too,” he said. She stripped the sock off and let it fall. She reached back up and grabbed the top of his naked foot, the breadth of her hand scarcely wide enough to find its grip. “You got me?” he asked.
“Yes.”
“Hold it.” The gunslinger drove his knee up towards his chest. He grasped the handholds and his long, cruddy fingernails turned white. The girl leveraged her green silk shoes into the face of the hill and moiled her legs up, up, and up again. The gunslinger seized her arm and pulled her up into his chest. Her right clavicle was broken clean across. A dark blue bruise was climbing up her neck and down her breast. A silver necklace with a white diamond centerstone sat disarranged over her drooping shoulder.
The gunslinger began upon the hours of gradual climbing that waited for him above. Through it all, the stagecoach remained fastened to the mountain. It would have rested there until nature itself faded to sawdust…
He laid the girl on the ground beside the heap of his ultimate campfire. He went to the horse and dug out his last clean shirt from the saddle bag. Whinnie’s coat blushed the mountain dusk. She was hungry. She wanted to be brushed, and she wanted to be sung to as she was brushed, all for the pleasure of it. But there came no food. There was no brushing, nor any of her rider’s soft songs. She staggered and nickered restlessly in the absence of these attentions. The gunslinger took his knife and cut away the top half of his spare shirt. He sat the girl upright and wrapped her head twice around, from jaw to meridian. He knotted the shirt sleeves under her chin like tying a headscarf. He took off his outer jacket and put it over the girl’s shoulder, then tied the jacket also by its sleeves. He fashioned a sling from the bottom half of the shirt he had cut. He untied the coat, strapped the sling under the girl’s injured arm and over her good shoulder, then put the coat on her again. Finally, he tended the horse as dusk fell to night.
An hour passed and perhaps the girl did not blink but twenty times in that span. The gunslinger fed her sips of liquor from his hand. She took the drinks silently, seeming to be unaware she was taking them at all. The man gave her fifteen sips, and took as many drinks for himself, until only three fingers of liquor remained in the bottle. In the night, they were both drunk before the fire. “You killed my momma,” the girl said suddenly, and without moving. The tightness of the headwrap prevented the complete articulation of her mouth, so her words had dull edges, like things spoken after the dentist. “Hell take you for it.”
“I’m sorry, ma’am.”
“Hell take your sorries. I’ll send you to the Devil myself.”
“Man sends himself to Satan. No one else.”
“You’ll soon see. Why are we still here? I’m an injured party.”
“My horse can’t see the road at night.”
“Yes it can.”
“She can’t. We have to wait ‘til mornin’.”
“Then what will you do with me?”
“I’ll take you where you’re goin’.”
“To Trinidad?”
“The same.”
“How did you know where to find us?” she asked. The gunslinger did not reply. “Did someone tip us off? Who was it? Was it someone in Pueblo? I know everyone in Pueblo.” But again, the man said nothing. “Was it that wagtail bitch Lily what works at the hotel?”
“No,” he said finally. “All no.”
“You tell me,” she said. “They killed my momma just as much as you.” Then the girl began sobbing at the newest remembrance of her loss. The gunslinger leaned against the saddle on the ground next to the fire. I gotta wake this night through, he thought. I don’t know what a grieving girl is capable of. It was true; he did not know, and his interests were not in finding the answer this way. He heard the cries that fell out of her but tried not to listen to them. After a few minutes, the girl let out a deep, heaving wail, and vomited on herself. The man took out the very last item of spare clothing he had: a half-dirty pair of long underwear bottoms. He cleaned her off as well as he could, and as he did, they spoke.
“There’s bounty men near Trinidad,” the girl said, very drunk. “If you don’t kill me, and I don’t die before we get there, I’m going to put your picture up.”
“They got my picture up already.”
“Then there’ll be another one.”
“Already got another one.”
“Then I’ll just kill you.”
“You’re a rich lady.”
“Not rich! We’re normal, decent people!”
“You can’t buy pretty necklaces and yellowbelly coach drivers with decency.”
“You don’t understand anything. You’re a greedy, no-good, mongrel of a man.”
“So you see.”
“I’ll tell you. Fortune holds no sway over me. But if I was a rich lady, like you say, I’d kill you still. And I’d kill you mean. I’d kill you like how a man would.”
“We neither know the other,” he said as he cleaned the last of the filth from her. “We have it good that way.” He slung the soiled garment into the snowy darkness beyond the reach of the firelight. The stiffness in the girl’s frame died away as she slumped down to battle another wave of mourning, then cried for a while into a dizzy, fathomless sleep. The gunslinger waited and smoked for nearly another hour, then took out his notepad and pencil:
Dec 14 1868 Stage was my blunder Saved a girl Killed her mother 3 other men Girls hurt bad gone to the doctors She said Im gone to Hell maybe I am Will make sure shes safe then she can send me there as she says Saw the necklacepiece but would not rob it If she handed it to me would not take it Im the man killed her mother Thinking now on Jotas love story
Good man rode with a bad gang Good man loved the saloon owners daughter She saw the bad gang and run home Good man went after her He was a very fine man Daughter heard him at her door saying he loved her She thought him a scowndrul come along with bad men He wagered she come out but she did not He knocked and begged But she stayed in the house Shed aloved him if shed come out but she did not Saloon owner came and shot the good man dead Bad gang came and shot the rest of em to Hell Buried em all in one grave
He looked up from his writing and saw the girl, still unmoving. Shame dissolved into him. He rested the notepad on the ground and set the pencil beside it. He closed his eyes. He thought he should write something more about the horrors of his deeds, or that he should write anything at all to keep himself awake, but soon his thoughts led him into a guilty, drunken sleep.
The girl had not been sleeping. She was waiting in the cold night with her eyes closed and her feet very close to the fire. She moved like half frozen straw unbending itself and put the palm of her good hand on the ground, then rolled over onto her knees. In this way, she shuffled very deliberately for a quarter of an hour before she finally closed the gap between herself and gunslinger. She knew the shotgun was beneath his head, under the saddle. Once she had shot him, she would stoke the fire until it was huge and warm, then she would read what the man had written in his little book, knowing she had avenged her mother. But then she thought. What if he wakes? Did he unload the gun? Is he the only man that can save me out here? And then she thought of the man’s notepad. What if I read something that makes me regret killing this man? Am I a killer at all? Even a killer of bad men? She forgot the shotgun and sat on her heels. She looked at the man. He was sleeping with his legs crossed and arms at his sides, his body angled up like a bent finger. She picked up the notepad and the pencil and took them back around the firepit, quicker this time, all the way to the place where she rested before. If he’s a bad man, I’ll kill him, she thought. But I won’t bother with the gun. I’ll smash the bottle on his head and kick the fire on him. She read the little book back to front until it was finished, then she sat awake with her eyes closed, thinking of her mother.
In the first light of day, the gunslinger readied the horse. He was anxious for having fallen asleep, but grateful the girl was there, and that they were both alive. He looked at the girl's face, frosted red in the new morning, and the thin strands of black hair over her eyes like strings from spiders of another world. The gunslinger poured a sip of liquor into his hand and bent down to the girl. He wafted his palm under her tiny nose. “I know you’re gonna to wake up hurtin’. Let’s just get it in ya.” His voice, a father waking his daughter to attend Easter Day church service. The girl didn’t need to hear him. She had not slept. She had taken some time in the night to experiment with ways she could maneuver her injured shoulder without stirring the pain. She found those ways to be very few, but in her experimenting, she became accustomed to the particular nature of the pain, and now it bothered her very little. She lay, a stack of wasted thews in the dirt, playing as though the night’s alcohol had her sick. The gunslinger sucked the liquor from his hand, then fed the girl four handfuls of snow. She knew he was seeing past her farce, but once committed to the performance, she thought she should not abandon it. For the last few minutes before they rode out of camp, she steadily lowered the drama in her acting by allowing her features to awaken one at a time. Soon, however, real exhaustion settled in behind her eyes.
Now they were both on the horse, the gunslinger with one hand at the girl’s side to see she did not fall. He sensed her balance with the thick muscles in his back, and there, he felt the hard diamond pendant of her necklace between them. The girl cried softly, in shorter and shorter spans, each separated from the last by about five minutes, and soon she fell into a perfect dream of when she was young. Her father building a homestead in Pueblo with aid from the Freemasons of lodge seventeen. Day fifty of the project. Men putting copper nails into slate shingles to form a roof. At night, a big canvas tent, a black iron stove, and her mother knitting something brown. Chicken soup on boil. Her father sitting on a crate, reading from a small blue book with a gold diamond emblem on the cover. His lips moved silently as he read over the same passage many times. “Father,” she asked him. “How will you ever remember so many words?”
“With patience and focus," he said in his kind, easy voice.
“Can I help you get more patience and more focus?” she asked in juvenile earnest. She wanted all the time to help her family. Being useful to them was the most important thing to her.
“Leave your father be, Caroline,” her mother said without pausing her knitting. “He must pass his test to repay the debt we owe to the men who’ve helped us. And he has only the days left in this month to prepare.”
“Yes, ma’am,” the girl said. Her mother was going to say something more, to give the girl some menial, well-intended distraction to go out with, but before she could speak, the girl awoke in Trinidad, in the bronze light of early evening.
“Ma’am, we’ve made it to the doctor’s,” the gunslinger said as he dismounted, still keeping one hand at the girl’s side, then taking her by the waist to let her down. Her face turned sour as she relived the events of the day past, but she did not cry. The gunslinger led her into the doctor’s building. He waited outside and smoked as she was inspected. The sun drew down, and he heard the sounds of brass music and women singing somewhere in the town. He finished his third cigarette. I’m sick of smoking, he thought, then touched his jacket pocket for the notepad, but did not feel it there. His hands shook as his mind swelled with a haunted, spectral feeling, like a man who had forgotten to do something very important, now remembering exactly what it was he failed to do. His fractured lips hung open and his vacant eyes did not distinguish the sights before him. Blue spaces beneath his eyes where he stored his self contempt. In his mind, he felt only the screams of the women in the stagecoach. He knew the final farewell between the girl and her mother had been one of confusion and suffering, whereas the lives they shared must have been full of love and joy. But those lives would be no more. The life of the mother, forever extinguished. The life of the daughter, forever sickened. And his reflection of their lives, forever unpolished, truthfully, never having been drawn out.
The girl and the gunslinger stood in the orange mountain dusk. She wore the doctor’s spare medical coat with only her good arm inside its sleeve. A leather sling fondled her arm and kept it tucked under her small chest. White bandages wrapped neatly about her head. She looked at the soiled man and examined his corpus to record him precisely in her mind. He was a pitiful thing, dressed in black rags stained gray from sweat. The hairs on his cheeks were longer now, like bunches of white hypodermic needles. He stood teetering and slouching into himself like an exhausted horse. His lips were almost white. Every inch of him contributed to his foul smell. His eyes were fixed on the frozen mud street, as though there was something down there that he loved and needed. He was not a tall man, but now he seemed even smaller than she, a girl of just sixteen years. She closed her eyes and squeezed soft tears from them. And there they stood, neither looking at the other, but feeling one another’s presence as tightly as stitches. The girl wiped her face with the sleeve on her good arm.
“What’s your name, mister?” she asked. He did not reply nor seem to hear her question at all. “It’s a beautiful evening,” she said. The gunslinger looked west down the road.
“It is,” he said finally, then his gaze dropped to the mud again.
“I’m going to speak with the sheriff now,” she told him. Again, the gunslinger said nothing. She turned away and stood, breathing softly into the wind. After a minute, she faced him again. She took the notepad from her pocket, placed it in his down-turned hand, and closed his fingers around it. The doctor’s coat nearly fell from her shoulders. She reached back to pull it on again. The gunslinger looked at the notepad, then at the small, soft hand that had put it there.
“Thank you, ma’am.”
The girl sprung her good arm forward and bashed the gunslinger on the nose. There was a splintery break as the nose bent and cowered away like a beat dog. This time, the coat did fall from her shoulders, and down into the street. When struck, the man did not stumble or sway, but only closed his eyes. The girl turned and walked, almost running, stamping over the fallen coat and crying out every tear she had left. The gunslinger’s body lost all connectedness. His knees drove holes through the topshell of frozen mud, then he fell forward onto his face. He mewled and wailed pathetically. His cries hacked and bubbled out of him like a boy weeping in a dream, like a man who had never cried before and was just teaching himself how. Tears, blood, and drivel soaked the place where his head lay, and soon there was mud all about his face and mouth, his mind drowning in the anguish of guilt.
“Miss, can you tell me what’s going on?” the sheriff asked the crying girl sitting in his office. He looked at her kindly, taking note of her injuries. He sat down next to her. “Where’s the son of a bitch that hurt you? You tell me, and my men and I will bring that bastard in to face the justice that’s coming to him.” The girl raised a finger to the sheriff. He waited patiently for her to compose herself. She took four deep, shaking breaths, then she spoke.
“My name is Caroline Bloomberg. My mother and I were on the road to Santa Fe to reunite with my father. Of course, we were robbed. I knew it would happen. I just knew it would. My momma… she’s gone. Everyone but me is gone. There was shooting. Loud, loud shots. The driver lost himself and took us right off the road.”
“I’m very sorry to hear this, ma’am.”
“We were so proud to be coming down here. Three months ago, my father went off to expand his business, and finally he wrote to tell us of his success. There was money to hire a stagecoach and men to guard us on the road. We could have brought the whole army, but my momma was raised to be frugal. She thought two riders and her old pistol would be enough to see us safely through.”
“Your mother sounds like a very strong woman. And your father, a good man.”
“They are. She was always strong. She always will be.”
“Did you get a look at the men who robbed you?”
“There was only one.”
“And he?” the sheriff asked. Behind him was a bulletin of bounty posters, and there was a picture of the gunslinger, wearing a clean face with bright eyes.
The girl looked for a while at the picture and at the other bounties posted. Finally, she shook her head. “My father also sent a secret allowance to the Masonic lodge in Pueblo, with instructions to deliver the money to me, so I could buy this.” She took the necklace out from under her shirt and showed it to the sheriff. “My father promised long ago that I should have it. Such a fool of a little girl. I could have hired the men we needed.” The sheriff nodded. He knew the scam—diamond brokers chatting up unsuspecting customers, then telling some local reprobate all about their business. The brokers bought the stolen jewelry back at a rate, and reset the gems into new hardware to disguise their crime. The sheriff thought not to mention these details to the girl, and he hoped she would never learn of the scheme at all.
“I have to ask, ma’am,” he said. “How was it that you were able to save yourself?”
“Just as you say,” she said. “I saved myself.”
Down the road, a crowd of drunkards and children gathered to watch the gunslinger as he seized in the muck. The tall doors of the barn next to the jailhouse flung open, and out came the police stableman to shoo the miscreants away and clear space for the cavalry. The sheriff lent his arm to the girl as they came outside and down the steps of the office building. Other officers filed out of the barn with lanterns fixed to their rifles, swinging their shines against the burgeoning dark. The sheriff helped the girl mount up on an unclaimed horse, then went to fetch his own. The stableman handed the sheriff his rifle and said something to him. The sheriff replied in a low voice that the girl could not hear, then he led a single line of mounted officers away down the frozen road. A moment later, they passed the crying man in the mud.
“Somebody get this drunk bastard out of the street,” the sheriff said. He could not have known the broken man below was in fact Theodore “Buckshot” Blake. His bounty, if seized, would have made the sheriff's career all the way to Lieutenant Colonel of the Colorado Rangers.
The girl now looked at this paltry man in the dirt. He was bent and turned so that she could not see his face. She remembered with satisfaction the feeling of his nose shattering against her hard little knuckles. She wondered if she was making a mistake by not handing the man over to the sheriff right then and there. She thought of the hanging that would ensue. Death might absolve the gunslinger’s soul, and she wanted so much to deprive him of that swift, honest conclusion. So the girl only looked away from the gunslinger, straightened her ladylike back, and rode with dignity, away and out of the town.
One of the drunkards came and kicked the gunslinger hard in the stomach; a brown-nosed effort to earn the good will of the sheriff. Then the gunslinger crawled. Despite his licks, his body was healthy. Yet, truly, it was a sick man that went skulking into the alleyway. Not a drunk, not a beggar, but a scoundrel. A repentant thing with a tattered notepad and only distant memories of love. He sat, leaning against the side of the doctor’s building, and opened the little book. On what he expected to be a clean page, there was written in a hand unlike his own:
Mister, you should thank God I’m not a killer. I could end your life now as you sleep. There is guilt and shame in the words I have read here. Even now your face looks as though it is full of shame. So I will not kill you. Knowing you are a man with a conscience, I will write some memories here so you may know just a small part of the pain you have put into the world.
My mother’s name was Gwyneth. The carriage driver’s name was Maximillian. The riders I did not know but from how they behaved I’m sure they were debaucherous men like yourself. Read those names and remember them. Is this the first time you have been confronted with such information? I hope that it is. I hope I am spoiling some cowardly tradition of yours.
The past days had been the best of my life before you took your action. I have never seen such wildlife as in the hills of Farista, or had such delicious stew as in the town lodge at Colorado City. Mother and I laughed and played bridge. She even allowed me one of her cigarettes each morning with our coffee.
Before your attack, we spoke of my father’s newfound wealth. My mother hoped money would not change the man she married. I assured her such a thing would be impossible. My father is a man of unimpeachable character. He builds great things from almost nothing, just as he built himself. I will see him again soon, but he will never again see his wife. They will never again do the things they did to bring me into this world. The honeymoon of their lives is over.
You will take me to Trinidad as you say. I know this is true because you hate yourself. You will help me so you might hate yourself less. Or maybe you will go on killing and hating as before, but there can be no doubt you will try. My mind is unclear now, but once I am sober I will decide what to do with you. If I am vengeful, you will suffer. If I am merciful, I imagine you will suffer the more.
Never yours, Caroline Jane Bloomberg, daughter of Gwyneth Hope Bloomberg
He put the little book down. She’s offered me a decision, he thought. A decision is more than a man like me deserves. Should I die to get away from my mistakes? Or should I live, and be with ’em forever? The gunslinger stood up and went to the place where he’d left Whinnie. He saw her coat glinting the last of the day’s light, and when she turned her noble head to nibble at his hands, the shine went away for a moment, but came back brighter on the other side. He stroked her flank and a few tan hairs stuck wet on his palm. “Oooh, sweet sweet,” he sang to her. “Oooh, sweet girl.” He took her by the halter and led her to the stables, where he sold the horse for one hundred dollars. Then he struck a second deal with the stableman to have a bath at his house for five of those dollars back…
Theodore Williams sat in a shady beach cabana with a glass of cherry wine. He watched his wife, Mary, dancing in the waves with her friends. Then the beach at night. Salt wind and talk of life’s fortunes. Splitting up to make love on the beach in pairs, some yards between each couple. The ocean, very loud. The waves, eerie, yet prophesied. Perhaps eerie because they are prophesied and each wave is a prophecy of death. Moonlight the only light in the twisted air. Theodore, a man disturbed by the taste of happiness and love, yearning for his natural end, unable to indulge what ought have been his greatest pleasure, but a man who, with each day that passed, was becoming closer to the thing he would have been. In the morning, he wrote:
Apr 1 1871 Mary wants me to write more The person this woman is She is beautiful The sand never all gets off her She reads poetry ‘Helen Hunt Jackson’ I have never done a poem I bite my hand when I think about doing it But I will write a poem for you my darling
BUCKSHOT BORDEREAU
On a lone farm in Kentucky A boy made friends with rocks Ma said to swears unlucky Pa said to clean your socks Eight teen hundred thirty seven That year was no good Took a flu on December eleven A bad day he understood Shotgun he heards the soil From sprouts a money tree Farmworks too much toil Hed rather eat for free She was down all underneath One evil by his hand She he saved to save him thus And show him his God’s plan
And he put the notepad and the pencil away.
