2024.05.17 12:24 Acquilas Looking for photos of Dean Martin's restaurant

Dean Martin opened a restaurant/pub in Miami Beach on the 79th Street Causeway. I have scoured and scoured for a photo of the outside of the restaurant and have found next to nothing. I have a postcard that shows 2 photos of the interior. There is an illustration of his restaurant which I have seen and I also found a video where the Dean Martin sign appears in the background of a news report on the bombing of Happy's Stork Lounge located nextdoor to Dean's in 1967. Please please please - does anyone have any photos of Dean's Miami resaurant? Maybe in your parents or grandparents photo albums! Many thanks. Address was: 1850, 79th St. Causeway, Miami.

My new video… James Hansen Update on Global Warning Acceleration Bye bye 1.5… It was nice knowin’ ya…
On the thumbnail, which is a photo taken at a recent COP climate conference, I appear to be a napper while James Hansen appears to be dapper!!
Hot off the presses; today’s exciting news flash is a new letter by the esteemed Sir James Hansen. If I was the King of England, I would certainly knight this brilliant climate scientist.
If I was asked to name my most admired climate person, I would have to say James (sorry Greta).
Guess who is second??
Yes Virginia, there is an acceleration of global warming since 2010, with 99% probability.
If you don’t know about James and his work, start here: https://www.google.ca/search?q=james+hansen&sca_esv=17f8a8f7a4f95661&source=hp&ei=xdtGZseuCYOfptQP8Iuq2A0&oq=james+hansen&gs_lp=EhFtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1ocCIMamFtZXMgaGFuc2VuMgUQLhiABDIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABDIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABDIFEC4YgARIkzJQ7QpYuy5wAngAkAEAmAGXAaABuAuqAQQwLjEyuAEDyAEA-AEBmAIOoALrDKgCFMICBRApGKABwgIKECkYgAQYQxiKBcICBRApGIAEwgICECnCAhAQKRgDGOUCGOoCGIwDGI8BwgIQEAAYAxjlAhjqAhiMAxiPAcICEBAuGAMY5QIY6gIYjAMYjwHCAhEQLhiABBiRAhixAxiDARiKBcICCxAAGIAEGJECGIoFwgIOEC4YgAQYsQMYgwEYigXCAggQLhiABBixA8ICCxAAGIAEGLEDGIMBwgIKEAAYgAQYQxiKBcICChAuGIAEGEMYigXCAg4QLhiABBiRAhixAxiKBcICEBAuGIAEGLEDGEMYgwEYigXCAg4QABiABBiRAhixAxiKBcICCBAAGIAEGLEDwgILEC4YgAQYsQMYgwGYAw2SBwQyLjEyoAeegQE&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-hp

Why?
Because you are watching this video, commenting on it, and sharing it to at least one friend. Oh, and hopefully donating to support my efforts.
One supporter sent me 8 lbs of nuts. I must say that when eating them I feel a bit like a cannibal. After all, aren’t I the biggest nutter (affectionate British slang) of them all!!

2024.05.17 02:32 jamirocky888 Genetic Genealogy - Western Australian example (Off topic)

Much has been said about genetic genealogy, and I understand why it can’t be used in the case of DB Cooper. There simply isn’t the requisite genetic material.
However, just for a taste of what it can do please see below a recent example of a 30 year old case being solved in Western Australia.
The article is paywalled so I have pasted it below for your reading pleasure. (Hopefully Kerry Stokes isn’t subbed)
https://thewest.com.au/news/wa/wa-police-use-genetic-genealogy-to-help-solve-the-case-of-a-man-who-was-hit-and-killed-by-a-train-in-1998-c-14675339
WA Police use genetic genealogy to help solve the case of a man who was hit and killed by a train in 1998 Phil Hickey The West Australian Fri, 17 May 2024 2:00AM
Senior Constable Bec Franklin, Detective Sergeant Darren Bethell, Senior Constable Lisa Rosenberg and Senior Constable Nikki Bailey. Police are using genetic genealogy to help solves cold cases in WA.
An extraordinary DNA breakthrough in the case of a mystery man hit and killed by a train in Perth 26 years ago could revolutionise the way police solve cold cases.
Using groundbreaking genetic genealogy technology, WA Police have ended a near three-decades long riddle by putting a name to the man found on a set of train tracks on March 7, 1998.
He can now be revealed for the first time as 20-year-old Mark Peter Dixon, from New South Wales.
Mr Dixon’s name, age and where he came from, had remained a total mystery after he was struck by a train between Burswood and Victoria Park stations.
Despite extensive inquiries over the past 26 years — and the case even being broadcast on Australia’s Most Wanted — his identity remained an enigma.
But a dedicated new team at the WA Police special crime squad has now cracked the case using genetic genealogy — the same technological advancement recently used to catch the infamous Golden State Killer in the US.
The technique involves investigators using genealogy websites — such as GEDmatch.com — in an effort to match a person’s DNA to any potential relatives.
In this case, officers from the newly-formed investigative genetic genealogy team (IGG) uploaded the mystery man’s DNA to GEDmatch in November, as part of a fresh inquiry into his case called Operation Skyvent.
From there they spent several months piecing together a family tree of Mr Dixon’s potential relatives — some of whom lived as far back as 1784.
By meticulously building a picture of his ancestry, from a starting point of about 2000 people, the IGG team were finally able to give Mr Dixon a name.
In an exclusive interview with The West Australian this week, the IGG team members who helped solve the mystery said they were confident this was just the beginning of genetic genealogy cracking cold cases.
Officers are now urging members of the public to get on board and upload their DNA onto sites such as GEDmatch.com to help solve historical cases not just in Australia, but around the world.
“For this to be successful, we need the public on board,” Det-Sgt Darren Bethell said.
“(In order) for law enforcement to be effective, it’s a partnership between us and the community.
“This is a great new tool . . . but at times we need the community, and this is one of those moments.”
Det-Sgt Bethell said WA Police were leading the charge, from an genetic genealogy investigative standpoint.
“We are the only dedicated IGG team in Australia, but others are starting to form,” he said.
The incredible breakthrough in Mr Dixon’s case has come as a huge relief to WA Police officer Jen Robinson.
She investigated his tragic death in 1998 — even helping to organise his funeral because there was simply nobody else to bury him.
Senior Constable Jen Robinson is thrilled the case has finally been solved. Credit: Andrew Ritchie/The West Australian Sen. Cons. Robinson said she was elated the case had finally been solved.
“My biggest fear was that I was going to retire and this case wasn’t going to be solved,” she said.
“I just feel total relief now and I am so pleased.”
Such is the excitement about the potential for genetic genealogy to solve other cases, The West can reveal the IGG team is currently working on 18 other cases at present — some of which are murder investigations and unsolved sex assault cases.
Police say they are making excellent progress on as many as eight of those 18 cases.
Nikki Bailey, a senior constable with the IGG team, said being able to solve serious cases using new technology was incredibly rewarding.
“It’s amazing to be able to give a family closure for a loved one that’s been lost,” she said.
“But we’re also dealing with sexual assaults and homicides, and again, (its) very rewarding to be able to give the families of the victims of those kinds of crimes closure as well.”
A composite image of what Mr Dixon is believed to have looked like was produced in 1998.
And although no photos of the 20-year-old have been released since he was identified, The West has been told the composite image was a very accurate depiction of him.
A composite image of what Mr Dixon is believed to have looked like was produced in 1998. Credit: crime stoppers Genetic genealogy has been credited with solving hundreds of crimes in North America in recent years.
Arguably the biggest case solved using the technique was the Golden State Killer case. The method led to the identification of Joseph James DeAngelo — a serial rapist and murderer who killed 13 people and raped more than 50 across California in the 1970s and ‘80s.
DeAngelo was jailed for life in 2020.
WA Police revealed last year how they too had used genetic genealogy technology to track down an alleged serial rapist who targeted four Perth women in the 1990s.
Following an “intensive” two-year investigation, Michael Anthony Woodhall, 51, was charged with carrying out the sex attacks in Crawley, Kelmscott, Carine and Scarborough between 1995 and 1998.
Det-Insp. Darryl Cox said at the time that genetic genealogy initially identified 3884 people — all of whom were put into a family tree.
Police then spent two years painstakingly eliminating potential offenders. Until they had just one name left.

Wife’s Second Anniversary Ring
Just wanted to share a ring I got for my second anniversary for my wife. I opted for an upgrade to the ring early as we both went through a very emotional and rough year, I don’t plan to upgrade until 10 years next. It’s a Toi Et Moi style ring which I thought best represented our second anniversary. It’s a ring I got from With Clarity where there was very little recent feedback from this company on this subreddit. The photos shown are my hand but both me and my wife have similar ring sizes. Size 6, 2 3CT Excellent Cut G Colour VS1 on a gold band. Overall customer service was great and came with both certifications and appraisal for the diamonds/ring. They are lab grade diamonds. And the prices seemed reasonable compared to other sites (brilliant Earth, James Allen, Rare Carat)

2024.05.16 22:30 Lost-House6394 HOUSTON MASS MURDERS.

I've always been fascinated by the theory that Mark Scott was originally Dean Corll's accomplice. Mark was arrested at least once for carrying a knife, in 1970. I have also heard the possibility that he may have been a drug dealer and possibly working with the head of a child abuse ring, John Norman. And in the new book it is written that Mark and Billy Ridinger were often at Corll's place and Hanley began to think that they were closer to Corll's inner circle. I wonder what would have happened if Billy Ridinger had decided to talk or what if Mark had survived to tell his story.
Do you also think that Mark Scott and Billy Ridinger were accomplices?
The first photo is Mark and the second photo is Billy.

2024.05.16 20:24 martymcqueen The next James Bond will likely have been born circa 1990. How will the events of the last 30 years have shaped him?

Did Bond have a Facebook account in college? Did he post dozens of photos of scrambled eggs on Instagram? What was it like serving in the Royal Navy during Brexit?
How would you transpose Fleming's James Bond into our modern timeline?

2024.05.16 15:17 NonprofitGorgon British plumber fakes stories of his philanthropy and kindness, used donations for personal benefit

The firm run by a man dubbed "Britain's kindest plumber" faked stories of helping people as it raised millions in donations, the BBC can reveal.
Depher, a social enterprise, used vulnerable people's photos without consent and founder James Anderson spent company cash on a house and car.
Mr Anderson prevented one elderly woman from killing herself, the firm claimed. In fact, she had died years earlier.
The social media stories made him a viral sensation during the UK’s cost-of-living crisis and brought in at least £2m in donations, according to a BBC analysis of his company accounts.
But when the BBC examined hundreds of Depher CIC posts and interviewed families behind the faces on social media, it revealed a pattern of lies and allegations of exploitation.

2024.05.16 10:25 GunslingerEX Basingstoke Comic Con releases statement on their disasterous event

Basingstoke Comic Con releases statement on their disasterous event
Statement from Basingstoke Comic Con posted on their website / Facebook:
BASINGSTOKE COMIC CON STATEMENT, 16 MAY 2024 The Basingstoke Senior Team are heartbroken by the events of this weekend.
Having spent over 10 months putting the event together, we were hit by the perfect storm of problems that led to an event causing people to feel let down. It also left two members of staff physically attacked, some physically threatened, and almost all verbally abused. We truly apologise to everyone, whether a customer or staff member, who came away from the weekend unhappy.
So, what happened? The vast majority of the problems we have heard loud and clear and came down to the fact that we unexpectedly lost 30% of our staff. We don’t use volunteers; all our staff are paid. We expect natural fall out and losing 10% of our staff in the week running up to the event was manageable, however on the day another 25% just didn’t turn up. They didn’t email or call to advise us of this, they just simply didn’t turn up. I am not one for conspiracy theories, but it was so odd as anyone who runs events know losing 35% of staff unexpectedly is the perfect way to damage any event. On top of this, with what the staff faced on Saturday, a number couldn’t face returning on Sunday.
We ran Sunday on the barest minimum of staff that we thought was safe and I am so proud of them, as they faced overwhelming odds as we had to juggle and firefight throughout the day for the event, we had worked so hard for. Yes, there were members of staff who didn’t know things, but most likely they had been pulled from the areas they had been trained for, to deal with areas they didn’t. Because we had lost so many key team members such as runners, radio operators and actor handlers’ people had to move to other areas to interface with visitors.
Thank you to everyone who has messaged us with positive feedback about our staff. I know they all greatly appreciate it.
QUEUING COMMUNICATION Communication is key, and we hear you loud and clearly. We had a communication plan in place to manage queues and give people the chance to enjoy other areas of the event rather than spend time queuing. As you may have seen every ticket was numbered, except for the ones which were brought on the day and they were, for example, 1-50 Orange VIP or 51-251 for the Stargate VIP. Our intention was to call people in batches. We were planning to accomplish this by the Tannoy system, the stage, and staff carrying white boards with the latest information who would also be able to deal with queries and questions. They would cover all the areas which the speaker system didn’t including the marquee. With the lack of staff, we lost the ability to do this.
AUTOGRAPH QUEUING People who attended our event last year will remember we had a huge area for autographs. Some visitors commented they felt it was just too big. So based on the feedback we received we tried to make better use of the arena and clearly made the mistake of going the other way and unfortunately making it too small. This smaller area for groups of 50 plan, not the amount who ended up queuing. Added to that the barriers were laid out incorrectly and I am currently investigating to see how that occurred. It all amounted to a gridlock in the autograph area. With hindsight, we should have cleared the whole area, sent everyone away with times for each group to come back, but again because we were lacking the staff, we did not make this happen.
We know people queued for hours and were hot and squashed and we are so deeply sorry. It was absolutely not the plan and devastating for us. The very last thing we wished to see is people who have looked forward to an event, saved for it and travelled long distances not having an enjoyable time.
We are also aware the queue sizes led to far from ideal accessibility, something we take seriously. After the problems on Saturday, we created room by reducing the space of Artisan Alley, but this could not solve the problem by itself.
On Sunday, because we had so few staff, we were very limited in what else we could put in place. Staff members were having to fulfil a dual role of actor handler and queue management. And because of the events of the day before, people were fearful of getting their autos, which I completely understand, and it meant many people were not prepared to leave the queue and come back later which led to more crowding and people standing for long hours. Please do not feel like we are blaming anyone here, I understand why. Losing the ability to communicate with attendees and each other made things incredibly challenging as it meant we were unable to respond quickly to issues as they happened.
THE HEAT We watched the forecast, and we planned for warm weather and some rain. What we didn’t expect was for it to be 25c plus. I am aware that people were complaining that we didn’t provide water until later in the day and the simple explanation was, we didn’t have any. The hotel was unable to provide us with any, so we went out to buy bottled water and also tried to fill the gaps with jugs of water. We went out and brought fans and tried to think of every way we could to improve things for people with the event space we had available.
I would like to give my absolute assurance that we were not ignoring people’s issues and concerns and we felt so bad that there were times when we just couldn’t give people the answers which they wanted.
MORE I wish to address other points we have been receiving with the same openness and honesty. Not for sympathy or as an excuse, but I believe everyone deserves to know the truth.
We had to sack two members of staff, one was behaving improperly with guests and the other, well I don’t know where to start. This person stole items and lied about his presence at the event, getting photos and autos when he should have been working. The same person is now spending time in Reddit spreading lies and misinformation. We will be taking action against this person.
Regarding Richard Dean Anderson, we were advised in advance of the event that he was a slow signer and as such we limited the number of autos sold and calculated his signing time based on that. What we didn’t expect was for him to take 4/5 mins per auto. It would take him over 13 hours to sign 200 autos. Based on his actual signing time we should have only sold 45 autos a day which would have left many fans upset. We also did not force him to stay and asked:
Could he sign faster If he’d like us to cut the queue and. If he was happy to continue at current pace and we would find the staff and security willing to stay while he continued signing. Regarding Jason Momoa, we have read a number of comments left by people saying Jason said that we changed his attendance to one day and also that we messed up his flight so he couldn’t stay two days. This is completely untrue; we would have loved Jason to attend two days.
Also, if other actors made negative comments regarding the event, none of them came to me and wished that they had, so I would have been able to address it directly.
Some people commented that they saw the Police attend the event and speculated that it down to us, this is incorrect. The reason why they attended was because people were walking around Basingstoke Town Centre and swords. These weapons may have been fake, but members of the public didn’t know that, and they rang the Police worried and concerned. We spoke to the police and addressed this immediately via social media and Tannoy announcements.
People have also speculated about numbers and said that we oversold, this again is incorrect, as while some areas were overcrowded due to queues, others were completely empty.
When we put the Stargate VIP ticket on sale, it only had 7 actors on it and people were happy to purchase it at the advertised price. We should not have added so many guests as we now realise it created a logistical problem for people to get them all. We also should have dictated which day people went for autos rather than leaving it at the attendee’s choice.
REFUNDS If you have a ticket stub for an auto you were unable to get, please send a photo of that auto with your details and an order number to info@basingstokecomiccon.com to accelerate replies and make refunds as efficient as possible so we can get money back to you.
If your auto was part of the Stargate package, you will get a percentage refund based on the number of tickets included in the pass.
We will not refund those who missed flights, had visa issues, or were delayed getting to our event as per our terms. We have detailed records of which tickets belonged to whom and who did and didn’t attend.
All other refund requests will be considered on their merits, and we will be replying to those as quickly as we can in the coming days and weeks.
We aim to complete this process by the 30th of June and will not respond to chaser emails, or those trying to FastTrack any request via other channels as we want to be fair and diligent in our replies to everyone. We are aware that some people are encouraging people to get a chargeback, and while they are entirely entitled to do so, it does complicate things and may delay any refund request.
FINAL WORDS We are deeply sorry that people didn’t get the experience they deserved.
This was not the Comic Con we planned to run.
To all those who have sent messages of support via email and social channels, it means the world to me, and we’ll be back stronger and better next time.

Freedom National Convention of 1904 American Interflow Timeline
A certain echo drapes the Freedomite National Convention in one Monday afternoon. “Utter folly!”, yells a voice from the crowd. It was Miss Caroline. The daughter of the late president—and some call dictator—P.T. Barnum. Mrs. Barnum would rush to the Convention Chairman Russell B. Harrison, the son of the very candidate that ran against her father, Barnum would hand Harrison a note before quickly scurrying off the convention. Members of the crowd demanded Harrison read out the note. The note was handed to Hamilton Fish II to be read along to the attendees. “My father laughs at this party from the grave.”. Those words shook, but understandably resolved the feelings, of many present. Many were already uneasy, President Chaffee had already been renominated for President unanimously by the Patriots. The Freedomites had come last of the major in every election since the end of President P.T. Barnum’s tenure. Stirring opinions for the need of change, yet also calls for a return to tradition. Many in the party had been split on the policies made during President Chaffee’s tenure, with some more agreeing with his policies than others. The high stakes for the nomination would lead to Freedomite coming in droves to support their new shining star.
The Freedom Party National Convention was held at New Haven, Connecticut on June 6th, 1904.
Inside the Freedom National Convention
Joseph Gurney Cannon - Mr. Cannon had already lost 1900, why make him lead ‘04? A common cry shared among many who wanted a shift in grand party in ideology. Yet to many, Cannon was exactly what the party needs to revert back to tradition. Cannon support the Barnum administration and martial law, suing the Illinois electoral commission for omitting Whitelaw Reid from the 1888 ballot. A conservative stalwart and the “big bully” of Congress, 67-year old “Uncle Joe” was instrumental in securing the German peace deal in the Philippines, homeland army modernization efforts, and demanded diplomatic action be done against Russia during the ACCEC-KVZhD incident. Fiercely nationalistic and isolationist, unlike President Barnum, Cannon would reject imperialism and foreign meddling and deemed intervention only necessary if it directly threatened the US. Once deeming “To the world, their own. To the United States, its own.”. Cannon would also oppose Chaffee’s shift away from the gold standard to fiat money, the heightened regulations, the continued troop sending to American-occupied Fujian and the Congo General Administration, and the expansive powers give to the presidential cabinet. Cannon would advocate an "All-American Homeland Policy", with eyes of politics being strictly observant of the issues at home, not abroad. Cannon would be called hypocritical by many, due to his work in securing agreements with foreign nations, but his efforts would please nationalists as him simply defending the American honor.
Cannon with US Ambassador to the United Kingdom Robert Todd Lincoln
Henry Cabot Lodge - As the feelings of imperialism ran high, so did it root into major political figures. Replacing the radical Edward Bellamy as Senator from Massachusetts, the freshman senator was thrusted into the national spotlight as an American representative for the Treaty of São Paulo. Though his work was eclipsed by the work of the renowned George von Lengerke Meyer, the stunt gained Lodge a standing nationally. As the now 53-year old now seasoned Senator Henry Cabot Lodge enters the running for the nomination, his resume has now far exceeded his old one four years ago. Supporting the occupation of Fujian province, the defensive of the Filipino republics against the Germans, the American presence in the Congo General Administration, the solidification of Bahia Blanca as American territory, support of corporate regulations, and calling to occupy or annex the remaining praia states of the world. Lodge would position himself with the imperialists, with a traditional conservative flair. Perhaps Lodge’s most divisive position would be his support of Public Safety Secretary Edward Carmack. Carmack’s mass immigration policies and usage of BPS to hunt down the “high-grade criminal” got the support of Lodge in Congress. Lodge even hosted a party in honor of the Massachusetts chapter of the Hancockian Corps. Lodge would support the gold standard and opposing the lax tariff policies of the administration. Lodge’s public opinions about his support of imperialism and the “Chaffean Policy” pushes him firmly to one faction of the party, as the other factions would faint to the notion of his nomination.

Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. - A scholar, a jurist, and an educator. Son of one of the most esteemed American poets and once presidential aspirant Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr., the younger Holmes once dreamed of reaching the highest court of the nation. But being thrusted into the Senate by the Massachusetts opposition who rejected another Adams entering office, Holmes was dragged into a political hellscape even he saw as tiring and petty. Nevertheless, Holmes made work as senator, being renowned as a progressive and logician. Holmes would oppose imperialism and interventionism, demanding America’s legacy of isolationism continue on to this era. Once stating that "...if the United States made of the world its heated enemy, then none shall be surprise at its immediate collapse in warfare at the hands of the world." Holmes would act more as a lawyer than a traditional politician in the Senate, often defending his positions in common debates with his opponents. Senator George Murray would say that "None understands the complexity and framework created by the founders regarding the Constitution more than Senator Holmes.". One of the signatories of the “Declaration of National Renouncement”, declaring his opposition to Edward Carmack and the BPS’s actions and demanding his resignation and the restructuring of the bureau. Holmes would also support massive regulations on monopolies and oppose the fiat money policy. Though not that interested of the presidency, the progressive and anti-imperialists of the party saw Holmes as the best chance of ascension. They would campaign on his behalf and fashioned him as a spiritual successor to Hale and Clay. Senator James R. Garfield of Ohio would campaign for his colleague, declaring him “…the last hope of American reform and readjustment.”.
Senator Oliver Wendell Holmes
William Howard Taft - Once described as the “softer Taft”, not only as a jab for his figure but also his approach to politics compared that of his brother. Placed by his powerful brother as the overseer of the American occupation forces of Fujian and the American ambassador to the Bonifacian Filipino Republic (officially the Sovereign Tagalog Republic). Young Taft was renowned for his diligent and pragmatic work as a diplomat. Taft’s efforts and reforms in Fujian already uncovered a steadily growing “Americanized” society in the province, lifting its population from the repression of the former Qing government into the American brand of modernization. Praised by seemingly all members of the Freedomite factions, a praise for diplomacy only behind that of George von Lengerke Meyer. His general popularly and esteem made him an attractive candidate for a unifying nominee. Though Taft himself preferred his diplomatic station, or possibly a station in the US Supreme Court like Holmes before him, many influences continued to sway Taft to seek the nomination. One of those surprisingly being Commonwealth House Leader Theodore Roosevelt, who had a personal friendship with Taft, and continued to encourage him to seek the high office. His brother Charlie, the Freedomite House Leader, certainly would be please if his brother would be elevated to the high office. Taft continues to be slightly reluctant, though many recognize the pressure would certain thrust him into acceptance. Senator William McKinley would say in Taft's support "Many men here have individual commendable qualities, but Mr. Taft was gifted with truly presidential ones.".

Gotham University’s winter term was coming to an end, and that meant the resident varsity football team was finishing out their season — on home turf, no less. The Nighthawks were on a winning streak and were looking to finish off the season with a championship. The entire team felt the energy coursing through them as the stadium filled and crowd chants grew.
There were always major league scouts within the crowds at these types of games, especially for teams as impressive as the Nighthawks had been. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that some of the players on the varsity team would be making it to the national league. The coach, as hard as he could be on his team, felt nothing but warm pride in his heart and mind.
Zack Howard, the captain of the Nighthawks, looked over the 120 yard field from the player entrance, listening to the roaring crowd chanting for the Nighthawks — even fans of the Princeton Tigers felt the pull toward cheering on the Gotham University team. Just as much as his coach, he felt pride in being able to carry his team this far. He hoped to give the best game he’d ever played, to be noticed by big league coaches and scouts.
“Zack!” He heard his coach shout from behind him, no doubt trying to shift his attention back to the locker room and preparations for the game ahead. Zack exhaled deeply and turned around to see Coach Fremlin approaching with a light jog, holding something in his hand. “Delivery for ya,” he said, handing the envelope to the captain. “Some girl said to give it to you, said there’s somethin’ special inside.” With a smirk, Fremlin clapped Zack’s shoulder before turning back toward the locker room.
Zack’s mind flooded with possibilities and fantasies about what could’ve been in the envelope. Something special could have been anything, and it excited him as he ripped it open. His expression quickly shifted, however, as he pulled a handwritten note out of the envelope, scribbled in nearly illegible handwriting.
”Zack Howard,” it read. He opened it, his brow furrowed, and watched as an instant print photograph fell out of the fold and onto the ground. One piece of clear tape had been shoddily applied to the corner and had clearly lost its adhesion. Leaning down, Zack picked up the photo and squinted, trying to make out the subject.
It took a few moments, but the longer he stared at the photo, the more it dawned on him what was depicted in it. Instantly, upon realising what he saw, he rushed back to the locker room and forced himself through his teammates to Coach Fremlin, who was dragging out his playbook. He grabbed the coach by the shoulder, twisted him around to face him directly, and planted the photo firmly on his chest.
“What the fuck is this?” he demanded. Confused, Fremlin chuckled nervously as he tried to grasp the small photo on his chest, not able to see the subject but only the fury in Zack’s face. The room fell totally silent as the entire team watched the coach and their captain with bated breaths.
“What do you mean?” asked Fremlin, turning the image over and squinting at it, trying to make out the details. Just as fast as Zack had initially made out the details, Fremlin’s face dropped at the realisation. “Holy God, Zack, I–”
“What the hell is this?!” Zack demanded once more, resisting the urge to grab his coach by the collar and push him against the wall. “Who gave this to you?”
“I– I don’t know, it was some girl,” Fremlin stuttered, fumbling over himself. “She was short, had black hair, face paint…”
“What’s it say on the back?” asked Tim Teslow, the team’s best running back, pointing toward the image and the messy scrawls on the back of it. Zack snapped it back out of Fremlin’s hands as the coach sat down, head in his hands.
“Section 204, Row 8, seat 9,” Zack read the note aloud. “I’m going to go see what this is,” he said through clenched teeth.
“Dude, that’s across the stadium,” said Cutter Karznowski, the wide receiver that had only joined at the start of the season. “The game’s starting in a few minutes.”
“I don’t care,” Zack snapped back. “I’m going.”

Good evening, Gothamites, I hope you enjoyed that last one — Barcode by Self-Sacrificial. It’s always been a personal favourite of mine, straight to the point with the best beats and deepest riffs.
In the same spirit, I’ll get straight to the point of why today’s a big day for me — you’ve all known this was coming but I never quite said what it was. When I started this show a little over a year ago, I wanted to look at the dirt of the world. I wanted to bring you my favourite music while trying to figure out my favourite events in this city.
I’ve talked about all the legends, I’ve talked about Joker, Mister Freeze, and so many others. I’ve talked about new shooters like Man-Bat and Professor Pyg. I’ve even, unfortunately, shed some light on the unoriginal copycat hacks that have started popping up in recent years. It’s all been out of love, though. Love for the mind of those who would commit these atrocities, appreciation for what they are and what they represent.
There’s a reason why they are what they are, and it’s always been a goal of mine to love and appreciate what they put into the world. It’s all about the chaos.
But, today, I won’t be talking about that. Today, I’ll be talking about football. Before you all start booing me, it’s my special day and it’s my show, so I get final say. Specifically, it’s the big championship game for the Gotham University Nighthawks. I went to school with these guys, I feel… an obligation.
I’m excited to see how the game will turn out. I get the nagging feeling that their winning streak might come to an end.

Section 204 in the Gotham Knights stadium, on the north side of Tricorner Island, the southernmost landmass of Gotham, was filled to the brim with spectators and fans. All were cheering as they waited and watched the Gotham University Nighthawks enter the field below, while Zack spent his time searching the section for a small woman with black hair and face paint.
Despite the difficulty of sifting through the crowded seats, he couldn’t find a woman matching that description. He looked back down at the photograph’s note and read it again, making sure he was in the right spot. The location remained the same: Section 204, row 8, seat 9.
People called out his name, but he was quick to shrug them off. He was too focused on finding the woman who’d sent him the photograph. Even asking those who’d been sitting within section 204 had proved fruitless, with no one being able to say anything about the described woman.
Angry and dejected, Zack turned back toward the steps between sections to head back down to the field when something caught his eye as he moved.
“Sir!” He called out, angling his head toward a man two rows above him, pointing beneath his seat. “Sir, what’s that under your seat?” There was some sort of flashing light taped to the bottom of the seat, slowly pulsing between purple and green.
The man looked confused, leaning forward to take a look at what Zack had pointed at, eyes widening the moment he saw the wiring that he sat atop. A complex series of wires and lights traced their way around each seat in the section, though neither he nor Zack could see what, exactly, the wires were attached to.
“I don’t–”
The man could only shout out those few words before a loud explosion rocked the stadium, blasts running down the portion of the stadium from rows 12 to 4. Dozens of seats were annihilated as smoke, fire, and green gas erupted. Cries of pain and fear replaced the cheers of the spectators.
Blood tainted the intact seats while the smoke rose into the air, infiltrating the sky of southern Gotham, visible from all along the city’s coast. What fell across the stadium, permeating nearly every seat on the west side of the stadium, making its way into the halls that traced the inner workings of the building, was a thick green gas, forcing its way into the lungs of the men and women who were running for their lives, trampling each other.
Those closest to the explosion felt intense convulsions in their abdomens and spasms in their faces, involuntarily forced to bear wicked grins while their shattering breaths overtook the screams of terror in the form of wicked laughter.
Amidst the chaos, the charred photo that Zack once held fell slowly and gracefully, slightly charred, ignorant of the horror that it had been subject to. Slightly charred, it landed a few sections away from the explosions, trampled upon by infected spectators who had no idea what was being done to them.

A Few Minutes Earlier…
James Gordon’s office at the Gotham City Police Department headquarters was quiet as he sat at his desk, resting his elbows on its surface with his hands clasped, opposite Astrid Arkham, the frail-seeming daughter of Jeremiah Arkham. She had requested a meeting with him, and he had assumed it was for an update into Batman’s investigation into her father.
“Gotham City needs something new,” she began, catching him by surprise. His eyes widened slightly, then his brow furrowed. “We’ve been in this… this state of insanity for decades now, and it is only getting worse. This city is no longer livable, Commissioner.” He resisted the urge to groan. The only difference in Gotham City as it was and the Gotham City of before was that the murders had become spectacle.
When supervillains pushed out mobsters and gangsters, there was a shift in crime, but the results remained the same. Salvatore Maroni and Carmine Falcone knew how to keep their business quiet to the public unless they were in active war. Those were the good old days, now.
“Insane, maniacal supervillains,” she continued. “They rule the streets whenever they so choose. The police cannot deal with them, not under you. You rely on the Batman,” there was venom in her voice as she spoke the name, “and she sweeps up the problems while bringing deranged cultists and assassins into this city. She’s the heir of a small personal army with untold technology and she runs free. The Joker Riots, the assassin siege, Simon Hurt, all because the Batman has infested this town with these misguided thoughts of the supernatural, supposedly haunting our city.” Gordon remained silent.
“Essen’s incentives are now failing,” she said, watching Gordon closely for a reaction. If he gave one, she couldn’t see it. “How many companies that were enticed by her incentives have moved headquarters out of Gotham? They pay nothing in taxes, they have Essen licking their boots, and it’s still not enough. Despite all that’s happened, we haven’t been through hell yet, Commissioner. We’ve only arrived at the gates.”
“If I may, Miss Arkham,” said Gordon, leaning back in his chair, scanning the young woman up and down. “What’s your point?” He understood what she was saying, and he feared she was right, but he didn’t like the conclusion she was bringing forth.
“You are antiquated, Commissioner,” she replied, her face straight. “Obsolete. Your methods don’t work anymore, the law you uphold is no longer effective. Besides that, you are getting old. I can see the fatigue in your face, the bags under your eyes, your paleness. You’re not the detective you used to be.” Astrid leaned forward in her seat, putting her weight on her cane. “Gotham needs something new.”
Gordon’s phone rang, and for a brief moment he was thankful for the reprieve — but only for a moment.

I’d say I feel bad for the people at the Nighthawks game, but, if I’m totally honest, they had it coming. It’s about time everything caught up to them.
While we all ruminate on what’s happening at the game right now, let’s listen to some good music. This is Confetti by Viscera.

Batman had listened to as many notes as she could about a green gas that made anyone who inhaled it laugh uncontrollably. It typically led to suffocation through the inability to control the diaphragm, but this time it didn’t, and it confused the Dark Knight. A familiar sight, an attack that resulted in eery laughter, and yet it wasn’t what the city had seen before. None of the victims that hadn’t been in the initial blast had died, though medical care for each of them was necessary.
As much as she cursed herself for being late, not able to save anyone as the events unfolded, she knew that she needed to take control as fast as possible. She, along with every person in the city, dreaded what this attack meant. The name of a particular clown lingered on everyone’s tongues, though no one dared invoke his name.
Batman wasn’t so sure, and she hoped that her gut feeling was right. Most of the bodies that were recoverable had been extracted from the blast zone, over a dozen dead and dozens more injured. Blood and soot equally covered the destroyed seats, and even more on the concrete below.
One thing caught Batman’s eye amidst the mess, two sections away from the initial blast. A small instant print photograph, half burnt, laid on the ground, covered in dirty boot prints. She picked it up and looked it over, squinting as she studied the subject.
It was a blonde woman, head down with wet hair covering her face. Almost lost in the details was a small trail of blood behind the hair, mixing with trailing makeup. Batman frowned as she flipped the image over, seeing the note for a specific seat in the section of the stadium that had been blown to bits.
She approached the seat and kneeled, ducking down to see under the seat. It was one of few that remained intact after the explosions. Zack Howard’s Final Stop was scratched into the bottom of the seat, and at the sight of it, Batman signalled to Oracle to scan the engraving. She couldn’t identify the woman in the photograph, but she could see clearly enough that the attack was targeted at a specific person.
Another killer, she thought to herself, fearing what it could mean for the city. Pyg almost tore the richest members of the city’s economy apart, and they were ready to throw their own to the wolves. Now, there’d been a deadly gas attack at a football game — one that had been sponsored by many of Gotham’s elite.
The idea that the Clown Prince of Crime had returned was already making its way through the city — Batman knew she would have to exert control over everything she could to keep it from tearing itself apart at the seams. She was more than prepared to do so.
“It doesn’t look good,” she said to Oracle.
“Yeah,” she said, her voice distant. “I hope it’s just another copycat, they’re much easier to deal with.”
“I don’t know,” Batman replied, looking back at the photograph. “Something’s different.”
