2024.06.01 15:52 uploadbricks did not get a ticket.

At the time of the story, there was a bunch of construction downtown. I was downtown paying a bill in person, 8am when they opened. Upon exiting, there were sawhorses and police cars at each end of the block that weren't there before. It was a "parked in the wrong zone" deal set up after I arrived. I stood on the sidewalk and watched the person who was in line behind me drive away. A police car turned on its lights and followed the car. I watched the next guy in line get the same treatment, and noticed that I wouldn't be able to sneak out between the police car arrivals. My only choice was to take the ticket. I got in my white single cab Silverado (I have two cars, and that was the one I drove that day), and slowly drove past the police car. Oddly, the police car didn't follow me. But as I drove further down the road, I noticed an electrician in a white single cab pick-up truck, a plumber in a white single cab pick-up truck, and a construction crew standing around a white crew cab truck. I was totally incognito, except for not having a commercial plate on the back. I couldn't stop laughing when I remembered I wore a blue button up shirt, which seemed to match what everyone else was wearing. Seeing this was accidental, we'll just have to see if I can fake my way onto his Reddit page also.

2024.06.01 15:46 bat_eyes_lizard_legs Irrationally "suspecting" my boyfriend of literally everything - not sure how to deal

Hi guys, I haven't been dx'd with OCD but I have been dealing with these obsessive intrusive thoughts and I figured somebody here would know how to deal. (Not seeking opinions on whether or not I have OCD, don't worry.)
I have been dating my boyfriend for years and in that time have never had an indication of any serious problems on his part (I mean, normal couple disagreements - nothing even approaching abuse or red flags or anything). However, off and on I've been having worries that he is secretly a cheatea criminal/waiting for us to get married so he can start abusing me/etc etc etc. The specific "evil thing" I'm suspecting him of being keeps changing seemingly at random. I have absolutely no reason logically to believe any of these things.
I've told him about these worries but obviously reassurance-seeking hasn't helped. šŸ˜… No matter what I do or how many times he reassures me, my Anxiety Brain tells me that of course he's just lying to continue his [insert whatever evil plan] in secret.
Has anybody else dealt with these kinds of anxieties? How did you deal?

2024.06.01 15:40 GhostfulWonders I am a vivid dreamer and it gets worse with stress

Iā€™ve always been a super light sleeper, super reactive to sounds around me but in that same retrospect, Iā€™ve always been a super vivid dreamer and reactive to stress, having sleep paralysis and looping dreams on multiple occasions. (You can skip to the bold part cause the first part was mainly regular dream turned intense, if youā€™re uninterested)
The dream I just had was like me and my sister going out to run an errand at like 11:30pm and going with the kids Iā€™m babysitting cause it was on their list of errands cause we shouldā€™ve done it earlier but forgot so we go out and Iā€™m looking around for a place to get a drink cause most of the shops are closed this late and I tell the kids to go ahead to the place weā€™re going for our errand cause Iā€™ll be there real fast while Iā€™m getting this soda from the Chinese spot and I have some cash on me.
I go up to the guy and ask how much are the soda and heā€™s like 1.25 USD so Iā€™m like okay cool let me get 4 cause I had four quarters and some singles and I pick mine (a coke, 2 sprite and an orange) and Iā€™m giving him the money and bro starts laughing cause my cash is counterfeit and he thinks I think heā€™s stupid and Iā€™m like O.O cause I had no idea it was counterfeit and try looking at my others bills (mind you I had like 27 dollars on me, and turns out all of it is counterfeit and I start freaking out
The boss comes up like whatā€™s the issues, and Iā€™m like I didnā€™t know this was fake my mom gave me some of these and he starts feeling bad and Iā€™m like Iā€™m gonna go get the bills from my sister cause sheā€™s literally at the bank rn, and heā€™s like okay Iā€™ll hold it and give you an extra sweet tea- and I rush over to where the kids Iā€™m babysitting and my sister and my male friend I didnā€™t realize was there is at (I donā€™t have male friends- this was like some sort of faceless look a like to someone I knew in hs)
Iā€™m like can I get some singles, Iā€™ll give it back when I can (I knew my quarters were good but I needs cash) and my male friend is like I have the perfect thing and pulls out this super old 5 dollar bill cause itā€™s superrrr old cause itā€™s from the first time he went to the bank and put money away and for some reason even tho it was senstimental he was okay with it and we quickly go tg to get my sodas and heā€™s about to pay but the worker guy thinks itā€™s a joke cause itā€™s an old dollar and looks fake cause itā€™s an old print with no boarders and Iā€™m like ā€œitā€™s real!! We just got it from over there!!ā€ And heā€™s like whatever this is where itā€™s confusing and stressing me out
We leave before the boss man returns but things get kind of crazy when boss starts chasing us down to get the dollar cause itā€™s worth thousands apparently??? And he wants to get us but Iā€™m scared and whatever and at some point I end up in a big body of water and Iā€™m panicking and having dual visuals of me stuck in bed so Iā€™m like ā€œopen your eyes. Wake up.ā€ While making a little noises from my body there like my usually humming or something and unlike usually, I open my eyes from that dream easily and end up in a room where all the floor is wet and cold and my head hurts cause Iā€™m tired from that dream where I was being chased and I just woke up from it but Iā€™m still asleep cause itā€™s a dream in a dream.
Mind you, It was like super bright where I woke up btw, like in the dream where the floor was wet/stained, it was like a dream equivalent to where squidward was when he saw the future but I didnā€™t see my reflection anywhere.
I walk through the floor thinking about how Iā€™m gonna clean it cause I think itā€™s a mess from the ac leaking, and I go to find my mom to tell her about that dream but I keep like zapping back to the bed and looking at the water and itā€™s cold and I end up waking up pretty soon after just crouching down and looking at the floor and realizing itā€™s not water on the floor but it is stained and looks like it was wet and dried out which is more annoying to clean and mop.
But yeah I woke up and forgot the details for a while but just went to the bathroom and turned my ac to fan mode and typed it out.
I can give more context in my home situation if anyone is interested, but Iā€™m super interested in any interpretations!! <3

2024.06.01 15:35 mansplanar 20 Best Bumble Bio Examples, According to a Bumble Insider

Keep your bio short, sweet and lighthearted. Avoid things and statements that can be used against you. You don't need something special or extravagant and having a bio that's too long or in depth can look as too tryhard. Instead work on your pictures, because in the end those will decide if someone swipes left or right on you regardless of what they say... because only once they decided that you are cute enough they will open up your bio
Tease slightly. Be humorous. Tell them how good your life is without directly saying it. And pictures pictures pictures. Each picture needs to be high quality. Bio doesn't have the same strength as decent pictures.
Write something that tells me about you--what you like to eat, do in your free time, watch on tv, last cool place you visited or want to visit next, whatever. The worst is guys who write nothing or just their IG handle, FFS. If that's all the time and thoughtfullness you can put into a profile, I'm going to assume that's what I'll get from you in a relationship. Also, is it laziness or complete lack of self-awareness? This is why writing even a little bit about yourself can be really important in this context.
Every girl is gonna be attracted to something different and the character limit blows. Just be yourself
OK, so, you officially downloaded Bumble, picked out your best dating-app-friendly photos, and brushed up on some Bumble openers. Now, it's time to create the best Bumble bio. But where do you begin?
Creating a good Bumble bio that stands out may sound like an intimidating task, but it's super important you don't half-ass this step. According to Bumble's US data from April, "those who added a bio to their profile experienced an increase in their average number of monthly matches than members who didn't," a Bumble spokesperson says. Clearly, it's important for a better dating experience.
But just because crafting the best Bumble bios sounds intimidating doesn't mean it has to be. Really, it starts with thinking about all of the things that make you you. With the help of a Bumble spokesperson, here are some tips and ideas on how to craft the best Bumble bios to score quality matches.
Tips on How to Write the Best Bumble Bio
Complete your entire profile first. Before deciding on what to include in your bio, Bumble recommends filling out the rest of your profile. Add to your "Interests," "Basics," and "Lifestyle" badges, which will give people an idea of who you are and what you're looking for. Then, take a look at your profile and decide what about yourself is missing from it. Per the Bumble spokesperson, some of the most popular Bumble profiles included information on a user's dating intentions, exercise interest, and zodiac sign.
Highlight the things that matter to you. The Bumble spokesperson said this will help to make sure you're matching with people who share similar interests as you. For example, if it's important you match with a fellow dog-lover, make sure you mention something about your own dog (or the type of dog you want). To stand out from the billion other profiles that mention a dog, don't be afraid to add some spice to your profile. "Try to jazz your bio up a little by exaggerating your statements or cracking a joke," the Bumble spokesperson says. Just remember, you don't have to say too much ā€” brevity is key.
Focus on the positive and not the negative. Bumble data shows that positivity is one of the most important traits for Bumble members worldwide, according to the spokesperson. Instead of listing out what you don't want in a partner, hone in on what you do want. "Focusing on what you do like can be a much better way to find someone who ticks all your boxes," the rep says. In other words, don't use your bio to list out things you're not looking for in a dating-app match.
Ask those closest to you what makes you special. Ask your friends or family what key things they think a date should know about you, the Bumble spokesperson suggests. "They won't overthink it in the same way you might."
Once you're ready to write your bio, here are some ideas to get the juices flowing. Feel free to copy and paste, or tailor the below to your individual preferences and needs.
Funny Bumble Bios
"Would do dirty things to [insert the name of your favorite sports team's coach] if it meant the [your favorite sports team] would win."
"If you're not messing up the lyrics to 'Fergalicious' with me, I don't want it."
"My definition of loving me unconditionally is always giving me the last mozzarella stick."
"As an English major, you will 1,000 percent make my day if you prove you know the difference between your and you're."
"Always hungry, and I mean, physically hungry ā€” not hungry for success, or anything."
Best Bumble Bios
"If you're down to rave with me, you have my heart."
"Looking for someone who also has an adventurous palate!"
"I'm DTF. Yes, that's down to food ā€” always."
"If attending a Saturday morning SoulCycle date is your idea of 'fun,' I'm yours."
"What's your most controversial opinion?"
Sexy Bumble Bios
"Ice cream is my second favorite thing to eat in bed."
"In the mood for a glizzy, and not the hot dog kind."
"Looking to cook my famous lasagna in exchange for you showing me your favorite bagel spot the next morning."

"My favorite summer activity is playing sand volleyball, so you could say I'm pretty good on my knees."
Good Bumble Bios

"If you like Pizza Hut breadsticks, Taylor Swift, and drinking way too many espresso martinis, we'll get along just great."

2024.06.01 15:34 JazzlikeMovie3265 AITAH for wanting to close my open marriage?

My husband (30m) and I (28f) have been together for over 10 years. About 5 years ago I asked if he would be interested in opening our marriage. Since we started dating kinda young I hadnā€™t really gotten the chance to date and I wanted to experience sex with other people. I had no intention of leaving my husband, I just wanted to explore. He was a bit hesitant but agreed. During the time our relationship was open I dated 2 guys but my husband didnā€™t have much luck. Iā€™m not sure if this is because he wasnā€™t trying or just him being unlucky. About 3 years ago I became pregnant and decided I didnā€™t want the relationship to be open anymore because I wanted us to focus on our family. We had kinda discussed it but hadnā€™t officially closed it.
After our son was born (around 2022) I became more certain that I wanted to close the relationship but my husband said he didnā€™t want to. I was a bit taken aback but I tried to be understanding. He made a remark about being in some sort of hypersexual stage in his life and since I knew I wasnā€™t feeling quite like myself anymore since the pregnancy I tried to just accept his want to continue to be open. However, I still kinda felt like we should be more focused on our family. I tried kinda dating a guy for a bit but I just didnā€™t feel the same anymore and I once again went to my husband asking if he was ready to close the relationship. He said if I wanted to close the relationship now it would be a problem, which I didnā€™t understand. I asked him if he was seeing someone and he told me no. It seemed a bit odd to me that he would be so adamant about our relationship being open if he wasnā€™t but once again I let it go.
After the conversation I kinda felt like he was trying to punish me because he didnā€™t really want to be in the open relationship when I first suggested it but I also feel like if he didnā€™t want to he could have just said no. I donā€™t feel like I pressured him into our relationship being open but I do think that he wasnā€™t super into it. However when I would check in with him he was just kinda whatever about it. I can see how I was wrong for not closing the relationship then but at the same time when I would ask him if he wanted to close the relationship he would be kinda sarcastic and upon further discussion just say itā€™s fine. So I can see how I should have just taken that as a sign to close the relationship but I didnā€™t and I see now how that was selfish. However, I feel like I have been clear since my pregnancy that I want is to focus on our family. When we didnā€™t have a child I felt like it didnā€™t matter because we didnā€™t need to be concerned about another person but now that we have a child Iā€™m not comfortable or know how to manage an open relationship in a way that will not have detrimental consequences on the children.
So for about a year after our son was born he was adamant about the open relationship continuing even though I wanted to close it and I did my best to be understanding even though I did not like it. He actually started seeing someone about 9 months ago and I didnā€™t like it but he said he just wanted to have his fun like I did. Okay fine. He told me she would be moving so it would only last about 4 months. Fast forward 4 months and he told me that her plans changed so she would still be around for another 4 months. During this time I learned I was pregnant with our second child and so I really started to feel like I wanted him to be more present to support me through my pregnancy since we already have a toddler. I once again expressed this and he told me that sheā€™d only be around until January 2025. Now Iā€™m annoyed because I am due October and heā€™s making it seem like itā€™s not big deal that he wants to continue seeing her when weā€™ll have a newborn and a toddler to care for. I told him that itā€™s really not fair and that I donā€™t like it because heā€™s repeatedly pushed back the date and it feels like his exploration with the woman is much more emotionally invested than heā€™s leading on. I also worry that January will come and heā€™s going to tell me that sheā€™s staying longer. Heā€™s talking about only seeing her 2 or 3 times a week once the baby comes but that seems like to much to me when Iā€™ll be healing from delivery and we will now have 2 kids under 3.
I definitely feel like he is too emotionally invested and itā€™s starting to feel like heā€™s cheating on me. I know that sounds ridiculous because we are technically still open and I feel like since he didnā€™t do more exploration in the beginning itā€™s not fair for me to close the relationship when he seems to be having fun now. However, no one was stopping him from exploring before we had kids so why now?
I told him I canā€™t do this anymore and that I cannot accept him continuing this relationship past September. He told me that it was too bad because he had no intention of ending it.
Would I be the AH if I decided to divorce him? What am I supposed to do if Iā€™m no longer comfortable with our relationship being open?

2024.06.01 15:29 PhilAceAston Tony Martin Talks About Black Sabbath, The Anno Domini Box Set & What Might Happen Next!

Phil Aston: Hello and welcome to the Now Spinning Magazine podcast with me, Phil Aston. And in this episode, Iā€™m absolutely delighted to have with me Tony Martin, one of the UKā€™s most underrated rock vocalists. Youā€™ve had a really varied career, but what weā€™re going to talk about today specifically is Black Sabbath and the new ā€œAnno Dominiā€ box set. So, welcome, Tony. Thank you so much for joining me.
Tony Martin: Thank you. And thank you for having me on the show. Very cool.
Phil Aston: A bit of context, because I think this is kind of helpful for you. My son is 30 now, but when he was 15, he set up a Facebook group, kind of saying, ā€œOne day, please can we have the Tony Martin Black Sabbath albums released?ā€ That was 15 years ago. He was still at school, half his lifetime ago. And I think in the early time when he set this up, he may have reached out to you and you might have said something like, ā€œI donā€™t think itā€™s gonna happen, Dan.ā€ And here we are, all these years later, and itā€™s not only happened, but it comes out this Friday. How does that feel to know that these albums are now going to be available again?
Tony Martin: Well, first of all, well done to your son. It took 15 years, but he got it done. To be honest, thereā€™s been a few periods when I didnā€™t think it was happening. In fact, about a year ago, Tony Iommiā€™s manager called me and said, ā€œYou know what, this is just so complicated. I donā€™t think we can do this.ā€ So I was resigned to it not happening myself. Itā€™s all to do with band politics, really. There are so many people involved or have their fingers in the pie that they all have to be on board. And there were allegiances changing all over the place, left, right, and center. So in the end, it was getting a bit tiring, but well done to Tony Iommi and BMG. My God, the patience they showed to get this thing together and actually get it out there. Wow. But how does it feel? It feels brilliant, to be honest. Iā€™m very excited. I havenā€™t actually had these albums in my own hands physically for the past 25 years. I gave all mine away thinking Iā€™d be able to get some more, and I didnā€™t. They just stopped making them. So to actually physically hold them again is really cool. What a great job theyā€™ve done of it. So Iā€™m thrilled and excited. And Iā€™m helping out now because Iā€™m not in the band, obviously, anymore. So I just offered my help to promote it and they said, ā€œGreat, letā€™s do it.ā€
Phil Aston: Isnā€™t it amazing? Because Iā€™ve done quite a few reviews about Black Sabbath box sets and stuff, but this one, within about 12 hours, thereā€™s literally 12,000 views of the review. The love for this period of Black Sabbath is actually huge. Itā€™s grown. It almost feels as if the profile is higher now than it was at the time.
Tony Martin: Yeah, there is a kind of reason for that. Partly people have got over the ā€œitā€™s the new guyā€ thing, and also itā€™s been 25 years since. So now weā€™re reaching out to a whole other group of people, in addition to those that were already there. But to the outside world, it looks like there was a huge gap, and to me it felt like a huge gap. But actually, the fans were always there. Iā€™ve been waiting myself as well to get this back out there. And itā€™s just band politics, really. Thatā€™s all it is.
Phil Aston: Because you had that period when it was almost as if this part of Sabbathā€™s history was hidden because of band politics. None of this really happened, which I think probably stirred up more interest and kind of people wanting to find out more.
Tony Martin: Yeah, it could be. Itā€™s an old famous thing, you know, if something ainā€™t around for a while, people start talking about it. But yeah, itā€™s a strange thing, the music business. Youā€™re either in fashion or youā€™re not. But I am just thrilled that theyā€™ve got around it. Just the patience theyā€™ve shown to actually put this together. At one point they were just saying, ā€œWe canā€™t do it.ā€ But Iā€™m really chuffed anyway.
Phil Aston: I imagine thereā€™s been compromises along the way. Lots of fans probably donā€™t understand how complicated the politics and all the different licenses and everything that goes on over the years, they become more and more entangled. People say, ā€œWhereā€™s Eternal Idol?ā€ But of course, that was a different record label. Different people own it.
Tony Martin: Yeah, absolutely. Itā€™s owned by somebody else. And also Eternal Idol, or ā€œEternal Idiot,ā€ as we call it, was kind of reissued not that long ago. Really.
Phil Aston: Thatā€™s right. With the two CD version, wasnā€™t it?
Tony Martin: Yeah. So they were kind of thinking, ā€œWell, thereā€™s no real panic because thatā€™s already been done and letā€™s just move on.ā€ Because that would have wrapped them up in contracts for centuries, I think. I canā€™t even think that theyā€™ll ever get them to let that go. But they were struggling to get the people involved with these four albums to make up their minds and do stuff. Iā€™ve been all for it all the way along, I have to say. Obviously, because itā€™s my career, my history. Itā€™s not just the bandā€™s history. Itā€™s ten years of my life that went AWOL. So, yeah, Iā€™ve been up for it all the way along, but some people donā€™t and itā€™s taken them a while to get on board.
Phil Aston: I think itā€™s fantastic. The first one was Headless Cross. You joined one of the biggest rock bands with all that history behind it. You were an established singer with the Alliance. But this was a chance, as you say, with Eternal Idol, you went in and it was already prepared. You sang it, but this one was where you could really put your mark on it, your personality lyrically as well as musically. Can you remember what it was like actually being at the beginning of that? Did you feel comfortable around Iommi and Powell and thinking, ā€œRight, what kind of lyrics am I going to do by Headless Cross?ā€
Tony Martin: Yeah, I was comfortable by then. Well, kind of. The thing is, with Eternal Idol, if I can just backstep a little bit. The Eternal Idol wasnā€™t the first call up. The first call up was in 1986 when they were doing the Seventh Star with Glenn Hughes. And that scared me to death because I canā€™t sing like Glenn Hughes. Nobody can sing like Glenn Hughes. They put me on standby back then, so Iā€™d sort of tentatively had an introduction to Tony Iommi. Then in ā€™87, they got me in for the audition, and that was the next introduction to Tony Iommi. But because Eternal Idol was already written, that gave me a whole year plus a bit more to find out what this thing was. What the hell was I supposed to do? So just doing Eternal Idol like that was fine by me because I didnā€™t have to discover anything myself back then. It gave me a chance to get my feet in. So by the time it got to Headless Cross, now I know all the guys, and I kind of know whatā€™s expected of me. I still had to find the ā€œmeā€ that I needed to find. I went around it the only way I could, by focusing on things I was interested in. I couldnā€™t do the lyrics and melodies that Geezer was writing for Ozzy because that was a generation before me. The stuff that Ronnie was doing was fantastic, but I couldnā€™t get inside his head. So I had to think about what I was going to do. I had an interest in the old gothic death stuff, like Dracula and Frankenstein, Mary Shelley type writing, and of course, in England, we have Shakespeare. Nobody speaks English like that anymore, that old English text. I thought, ā€œOld English text, gothic death, and Black Sabbath. That might work.ā€ So I put them all together and came up with Headless Cross, which is where I lived. I lived in a village called Headless Cross.
Phil Aston: Yeah, you put that on the map. They werenā€™t pleased about it. The most recognition Iā€™ve got is my name on a bus stop. And Cozy Powell thought the album needed more death, didnā€™t he?
Tony Martin: Oh, thatā€™s true. Thatā€™s actually true. We were recording ā€œWhen Death Calls,ā€ and he was in the studio playing, and he suddenly stopped. We went, ā€œYou alright?ā€ He went, ā€œYeah, just remind me, whatā€™s this song called again?ā€ I said, ā€œItā€™s called When Death Calls.ā€ He said, ā€œI donā€™t think thereā€™s enough death in it.ā€ And he carried on playing. So, okay, maybe heā€™s taking the piss, but isnā€™t it such a great sounding album? As Tony Iommi says, he never left Black Sabbath. So when people criticize him, saying, ā€œYou should change the name or whatever,ā€ he never left. So it was still Black Sabbath. The riffs, the guitar sound was reaching new peaks of excellence around this time.
Because when it was just him and Ozzy, for example, it was guitar, that was it. When Geoff Nichols joined during the Dio period, it introduced a few more keyboard things. That allowed Iommi to play solos against those keyboard pads and chords. And then you come along and start sticking 50 tracks of vocal harmonies on it, like in Anno Mundi and stuff like that. It just kept developing. Sabbath isnā€™t really known for vocal harmonies and keyboards, but underneath that was still Tony Iommi. And it still sounded like Sabbath. We were happy to do that. We just wanted to make Tony happy and do the best for him. It was his band. So we were happy to seek out that Sabbath sound and make sure it did what it said on the tin. A couple of times, like with the Seventh Star thing, he ventured a little bit away from it. Songs like Heart Like a Wheel donā€™t really make the Black Sabbath sound, but itā€™s still good stuff. I have great respect for all of the eras that went before. I had to sing all of the songs. So I do have great respect for it. And itā€™s been an honor, you know, like being part of the whole story. But he was the only one that stuck it out. And we respected him for that. Youā€™re right, they did ask him to change a couple of times. He said, ā€œNo, I canā€™t change now.ā€
Phil Aston: The next one, if I pronounce this right, itā€™s Tyr.
Tony Martin: Yeah.
Phil Aston: Because when it came out, me and my friends, actually, because there was no Internet back then and nowhere to go and check it, we did call it Tyr. To be.
Tony Martin: Yeah, Tyr.
Phil Aston: Watch you find in Birmingham. You know what I mean? So it actually rhymes with beer, doesnā€™t it?
Tony Martin: It is, yeah. Actually, itā€™s Tiw, which is Scandinavian for the son of Odin or something.
Phil Aston: Well, this is almost as close, probably, to Sabbath getting into almost a concept album. Isnā€™t it? This is a collection of songs that in another time and space you probably as a band would have gone out and performed the whole thing.
Tony Martin: Yeah, it wasnā€™t meant that way, but they were struggling to find a name for the album. We were recording and getting towards the end and the management called us up and said, ā€œWe really need a name for this album.ā€ And Cozy said, ā€œIā€™ve got one. Letā€™s call it Satanic Verses.ā€ We went, ā€œWhat, like Salman Rushdie thing?ā€ He said, ā€œYeah, it would be great publicity.ā€ We said, ā€œYeah, but weā€™ll all be dead.ā€ So we did struggle, but they happened across the artwork. Weā€™d done Anno Mundi, weā€™d done Gates of Valhalla and all that sort of stuff. They went, ā€œWhat ifā€¦ Tyr?ā€ It was fine by me. So it took on the Viking sort of theme. By that time, I was thinking, once Iā€™d done Headless Cross and started to have an interest in the Vikings and stuff. As you know, the Vikings havenā€™t been particularly good for us. They came over and stole all our women and sheep and whatever. But I had an interest in them as well. So I was thinking, every culture, every religion has its dark side. Thereā€™s always a devil type in a god type. I thought we could go around the world and I could do this. You could pick up on all sorts of cultures and pick out the dark side of various things. But it was the last kind ofā€¦ I still did that with various other songs and various other artists. But Tyr was leaning towards that theme.
Phil Aston: Itā€™s an excellent album. Then of course, the strangeness of the politics in Sabbath. Dehumanizer comes along and Dio re-enters the scene. You obviously had an opportunity because every cloud has a silver lining. You can go off and do your solo album at this time. But you did kind of likeā€¦ It sounds like it was almost a forced relationship, the way that he was and he wasnā€™t. I mean, how was that period for you? Because you did demo some of the tracks, didnā€™t you?
Tony Martin: Firstly, it was a shock. I didnā€™t see that coming at all. Literally just walking out the door to the next writing rehearsals. My managers called up and said, ā€œThey donā€™t want you to go.ā€ From what I recently found out, although I had my suspicions, Tony Iommi said the record label just wasnā€™t supporting it. They werenā€™t getting behind us at all. Then they started banding about all different names and stuff, and Ronnieā€™s name came up. They thought theyā€™d give it a go. He said it was all on and off all the time. After they let me go, it wasnā€™t too long before Tony called me back and said, ā€œCan you come back?ā€ I said, ā€œNo, I canā€™t. Iā€™m doing my solo album.ā€ More time went by, and he called me back again and said, ā€œAre you sure you canā€™t come back?ā€ I said, ā€œIā€™m doing my solo album. I really canā€™t.ā€ He said, ā€œDo you want to come down and try?ā€ So I did. I went down and tried putting my voice on some of the songs, but it would have meant rewriting everything, and they werenā€™t going to do that. So I said, ā€œThe best thing is if you finish this with Ronnie, get this done and out of the way, then maybe we can talk again later.ā€ So thatā€™s kind of what happened. By that time, Iā€™d done my solo album, which I wanted to get as far away from the Sabbath thing as I could at the time. I went back to doing what the Alliance and some of the bands Iā€™d been with, that middle-of-the-road AOR type stuff. But when they called me back to Sabbath, Polydor dropped my solo album like a brick. They said, ā€œWe canā€™t do this if youā€™re going to go back with them.ā€ So that got stopped. Itā€™s so confusing. By the time I got back with the guys to Cross Purposes, it didnā€™t feel that much of a gap for me, because Iā€™ve been talking to them and working with them through the Dehumanizer thing.
Phil Aston: Stylistically, that album, because it was on the IRS label, I know some people have said, ā€œWell, it should be in there.ā€ Stylistically, musically, itā€™s very different. I mean, you take it out. These four albums in this set, excluding Eternal Idol, they sound like a progression. Dehumanizer sounds like a kind of sidestep. Even the way the riffs are done in the songs, itā€™s changed. You take the vocalist out, but the music continued. You took you out and it was very different.
Tony Martin: I suppose it does a bit. If I go back and think over it, I guess thatā€™s what it was. It was kind of an interruption into the flow of things. When we were doing Tyr, I thought we were doing really well. I thought we were onto something. Dehumanizer, in that sort of respect, does feel a little bit like an interruption. But there was some good stuff on there. Ronnieā€™s always been a good singer. I donā€™t quite know how they feel about it, but it was kind of nothing to do with me. I just let them get on with it.
Phil Aston: After that, Cross Purposes is probably, out of the four albums in this set, my personal favorite. Geezerā€™s back in the band now, so youā€™ve got his bubbling bass in there. And again, lyrically, itā€™s all you. Did you feel any kind of, ā€œOh, Geezerā€™s back. Will he want to help out?ā€
Tony Martin: I did ask. He just said, ā€œNo, you can do it.ā€ So I just carried on.
Phil Aston
The reason why I love this album is that itā€™s varied. A lot of people think of Black Sabbath as the Godfathers of heavy metal, and heavy metal is always heavy metal. But if you think back to albums like Sabbath Bloody Sabbath in the seventies, they werenā€™t all heavy metal. There were all sorts of things on there. There were keyboards and light and shade. This, I felt, connected to that album, because you had light and shade on it. So there were more dynamics in the lyrical delivery and the song delivery, in the way that Iommi is weaving his riffs around the melodies. What are your thoughts looking back on this album now?
Tony Martin: I think youā€™ve just summed it up. It did sort of shift up a notch. Not only that, but the sound they were getting with Leif Mases producing it, it sort of grew up. It lifted somehow out of what theyā€™d done before. It felt like, ā€œOh, this sounds good.ā€ The songwriting and the exploring we were doing with the songs and stuff. At the time, Geezer Butler said thatā€™s the best album heā€™s ever been on. He never said that again, but he said it at the time.
Phil Aston: I can imagine him saying just that.
Tony Martin: But it was good. Having Bobby Rondinelli in the band as well. Technically amazing. Brilliant player. His drums close in, and he plays with his wrists. Very technical. Whereas Cozyā€™s drums are stretched out far and wide. Heā€™d lean over and hit them. But great to have them both in. What an honor. I mean, itā€™s Geezer Butler as well.
Phil Aston: When you got to South America, Bill Ward was in for a few gigs, wasnā€™t he? That must have been quite surreal. Bill Ward and Geezer playing songs like Headless Cross, which they had nothing to do with.
Tony Martin: They had nothing to do with. We were kind of weird because once weā€™d started to get Geezer and Bill back in, they wanted to start doing more of the older songs. That just makes you look, read between the lines going, ā€œWhatā€™s going on? Whereā€™s this going?ā€ Once itā€™s happened to you, you know it. Then youā€™re reading between the lines. You start to feel it. Then you go, ā€œAh, right.ā€ You can feel it. Theyā€™re clearing up. I did ask if they were going to do a reunion with Ozzy. Iommi was always denying it. Said, ā€œNo, no, weā€™re not doing that.ā€ But I didnā€™t mind. The reason for that is because I knew what I could do in the future then. I thought, ā€œWell, if they just tell me, thatā€™s fine. Cause then I can plan.ā€ The first time it was a shock and I didnā€™t know what to do. But I was kind of keyed up for it the next time. But he kept going. They got Bill in. I love Bill. I think heā€™s brilliant. We did some shows with him. But for some reason, and I donā€™t know what it is, I mean, I can tell you Iommi loves Bill. He regaled so many stories about when they were out there and how funny it was. I never understood why they never gave him time to get back in it. When you think of Def Leppard, they made a drum kit for a one-armed drummer.
Phil Aston: Yes, very true.
Tony Martin: Surely they can find time to get Bill settled back in. Whatever problems theyā€™ve got. I mean, come on.
Phil Aston: You would think, yeah, very true.
Tony Martin: Get on with it. I thought, ā€œRight, this is going to go south again.ā€ But it didnā€™t. We carried on with Forbidden, and then Cozy came back after his accident. It was really up and down. Confusing. People in and out. During the time I was in the band, there were eight different lineups.
Phil Aston: It was very much a revolving door, wasnā€™t it? Before we move on, I just want to ask, because I know a lot of fans ask this. In the booklets in these box sets, thereā€™s an image of Cross Purposes Live. That was a VHS tape and a CD. Is there a reason why that wasnā€™t included in some way? Is that game politics?
Tony Martin: I did ask about that, and they were just keen to get on with it. They said, ā€œCome on, letā€™s go, letā€™s do it.ā€ What they told me was that theyā€™re going to take their time now to see what else they can gather and do an additional thing to this along the way with more of that in it. With the Cross Purposes Live and some other stuff. Thereā€™s a track that I recorded with them when Eddie Van Halen came and did Evil Eye.
Phil Aston: Yes, yeah, Evil Eye, wasnā€™t it?
Tony Martin: Yeah. I used to take the track out. I had it everywhere. Writing sessions, recording sessions, rehearsals. I just happened to be there. I didnā€™t even know who was coming. Iommi just turned up with Eddie Van Halen. I went, ā€œHoly hell, itā€™s Eddie Van Halen. Whatā€™s he doing here?ā€ He did some rehearsals with us and then disappeared. Never saw him again. But I got the recordings of the rehearsals that we did.
Phil Aston: Oh, wow.
Tony Martin: So I sent them to Tony Iommi. I said, ā€œUse these. Get these on.ā€ He said, ā€œNo, no, we canā€™t.ā€ The reason they said was anything that has the slightest newness about it looks like a new Black Sabbath track or album track. Theyā€™re not allowed to release anything new under the Black Sabbath name. So even if itā€™s historical, they couldnā€™t allow it. Itā€™s really weird.
Phil Aston: That means there must be lots of live stuff recorded. More bands were recording live stuff from the nineties onwards that you just couldnā€™t work on because it would go out under the Black Sabbath name.
Tony Martin: Not just live stuff. Iā€™ve got about eight tracks that we never released. Just from the writing sessions and rehearsals and stuff that we used to do. They just canā€™t get out. They just wonā€™t allow it.
I donā€™t understand. Well, I kind of understand. When youā€™re trying to protect your name, your mark, your image, your everything, which is where the band politics comes in, they wonā€™t allow you to do anything that they think. And thereā€™s all kinds ofā€¦ Everybody from Ozzy to Dio to everybody. They donā€™t want their thing to be diluted or taken away. I do understand that. There are people involved all along the way that have an objection of some kind or another.
Phil Aston: But I guess, hopefully, this box setā€™s going to sell out really quickly and will show thereā€™s a demand for this material and for this part of Black Sabbath history. Thereā€™s a lot of love for it. A lot of people worked really hard within it, like yourself. Theyā€™re great albums, wonderful songs. If thereā€™s other music waiting in the wings, whereas we all get older, thinking through the eyes of the fan, it would go down so well, wouldnā€™t it? But I am, as you are, very grateful that these four albums have arrived in a box.
Tony Martin: Yes, itā€™s an important thing for me. Itā€™s an important thing for the band, and itā€™s a great thing for the fans. Iā€™m thrilled. Itā€™s been an honor to be part of the story. I love the fact that itā€™s out there now. They did say there is no limit to the box sets. They have sold out on day one.
Phil Aston: Iā€™m not surprised.
Tony Martin: They said the way they do it is they tend to poll the outlets and stuff and say, ā€œHow many do you think you can sell?ā€ And they put their numbers in, and theyā€™ve gone way past that. So now theyā€™ve got to go back and produce more. Thereā€™s no limit to it. I love what theyā€™ve done. Thereā€™s more in the box set than just the albums. Posters, programs, and everything.
Phil Aston: And then Forbidden. Iā€™ll be honest, Tony, when I heard this for the first time back in the day, I didnā€™t like it. I tried, but I didnā€™t like it. My son liked it because I think probably because his dad didnā€™t. But now the remix, itā€™s as if someoneā€™s released the drums and the guitars. It sounds like a Black Sabbath album. It sounds fantastic, doesnā€™t it?
Tony Martin: It does. Itā€™s brilliant. I love the fact that theyā€™ve dismantled it and put it back in a way that they couldnā€™t or didnā€™t with the other three. Forbidden needed it for all kinds of reasons. It was done under a sort of cloud where a lot of us werenā€™t really into it very much. But it was also an attempt at trying to give Sabbath a kind of acceptable twist to the youth. It didnā€™t work.
Phil Aston: The nineties were weird, werenā€™t they? The nineties were strange for heavy rock.
Tony Martin: The problem was we were fast heading towards great new bands like Nirvana and eventually Green Day and Metallica doing stuff. We were going and they were trying to change the sound to fit in. It didnā€™t work. We didnā€™t think it would. But there are people out there that love Forbidden as it is. I said that to Iommi. Last time I saw him, there are people out there that love it. He said, ā€œTheyā€™ll probably love this version now.ā€ But shaking the chains, guilty as hell, rusty angels, forbidden. And of course, ā€œLoser Gets It Allā€ is a great track. That wasnā€™t even on the album originally.
Phil Aston: Itā€™s brilliant.
Tony Martin: Yeah. Strange. I absolutely love it now. It does sound like a Black Sabbath album. It sounds like it should be there in amongst the others. Theyā€™ve done a great job. Tony and his engineers have really pulled it together. Itā€™s slightly more guitar and slightly less keyboard. Theyā€™ve done Cozyā€™s drums. Fantastic job on those.
Phil Aston: Theyā€™re just unleashed, arenā€™t they?
Tony Martin: Yes. They havenā€™t changed anything. Theyā€™ve mixed it and given it a new attitude, which is brilliant. Theyā€™ve given it more space. It sounds bigger. I just love what theyā€™ve done to it. Iā€™m really proud of it now. I didnā€™t like it then. Thereā€™s still a couple of tracks where I would love to have gone back in andā€¦
Phil Aston: Yeah, you know.
Tony Martin: I thought at the time, because I was that off it at the time, my head just wasnā€™t quite there. A couple of tracks I thought I could have done better. I did sort of say when they were doing it, ā€œCan I go back in?ā€ They said, ā€œNo.ā€
Phil Aston: I suppose because that might edge towards it being a new recording then.
Tony Martin: Yeah, tricky. Iā€™m not going to tell you which tracks it is, but there were a couple in there that I wasnā€™t quite happy with. But on the whole, itā€™s a great job theyā€™ve done.
Phil Aston: Because when you were playing live, there were more songs from your period in Sabbath coming into the set, werenā€™t there? You were a unique vocalist in many ways for the band. You could cover Ozzy, Dio. You probably could have done Ian Gillan. Anything. You could have the ultimate set list, really, going through every era.
Tony Martin: That was a bit of a mistake. I told them I could sing anything, really. They thought, ā€œWhat can we give him to sing?ā€ They threw all sorts of stuff at me. I had a shot. Fortunately, Iā€™ve got the kind of voice that can get around most things, and thatā€™s a result of being in so many different kinds of music. Iā€™ve been involved in everything from reggae to rock.
Phil Aston: Who were your key vocal influences growing up? As you say, outside of this Black Sabbath badge, your voice can go in any direction. So who were your influences? Was it blues, soul, rock?
Tony Martin: It kept changing. Everything I listened to, I thought, ā€œThatā€™s good. Thatā€™s good.ā€ Each couple of years, something else took my attention. Iā€™d really pour my soul into it. When I started off with reggae, believe it or not, I worked with Musical Youth and Dexys Midnight Runners in the studio. I was a guitarist back then. Then I loved blues. I got into prog rock bands like Yes, King Crimson, Jethro Tull. Then it shifted to Emerson, Lake & Palmer. That led to Rush and bands like that. Then I had to come down out of that prog rock technical stuff because Sabbath is much more honest and basic and straightforward. To a point. When youā€™re in the band and you find out how he does it, itā€™s stunning. I never even gave it a thought. I thought, ā€œItā€™s got to be easy.ā€ It wasnā€™t easy at all. Iommi can put seven, eight different riffs into one song, and each one of the riffs could be a song on their own.
Phil Aston: Very true.
Tony Martin: So, wow. You get your head around it. Itā€™s weird. Plus, the time signatures he was throwing at us. There was a 14/4 and a 15/8 or something he was throwing at us. How he gets his head around it, I just donā€™t know. When I saw him a few weeks ago, he said, ā€œYou did a really good job on this.ā€ I said, ā€œThanks, man.ā€ He said, ā€œI actually donā€™t know how you sang over some of this stuff.ā€ I said, ā€œNeither do I.ā€
Phil Aston: Just mad, isnā€™t it? You could try anything. I might have thought, ā€œThat means you might be able to put some of the songs in that Ozzy couldnā€™t do into the set. Or I can try something that Iā€™ve never been able to do before because Tony says he can do anything.ā€
Tony Martin: Itā€™s because I showed willing. I told them Iā€™d have a go. And I did have a go. I did put into it. The songs, the writing, the live shows, whatever. I kind of made a rod for my own back in some ways because it was hard flicking between all of the different vocal techniques. But I did my best. It sort of came across okay. The problem is when you try to do stuff like that, it can sound a bit like a tribute act. But we got it nailed, I think. Especially having people like Cozy Powell, Geezer Butler, and all those guys in the band. We were willing to seek out that Sabbath sound, and we were conscious of it. So we were all aiming for the same thing. From outside, it might have looked like a chaotic mess. But on the inside, it all had a focus. We were all willing to give it a go. Thatā€™s what I think they saw in me. I knew they liked my voice, but I think thatā€™s what they saw, a willingness to have a go and see if you can make it work. All those different time signatures and riffs that I had to go, looking back, to me, itā€™s Black Sabbath. Like,
Phil Aston Iā€™m a Deep Purple fan, and every lineup of Deep Purple is still Deep Purple. I know Black Sabbath, thereā€™s lots of politics in the way some of the fans look at it. But I think, which is why they had Heaven and Hell later on instead of Black Sabbath, because of the politics. But listening to these four albums, one after the other, you brought to life Viking mythology and song. More death. Just your passion and the way you projected the lyrics and your phrasing makes these albums unique. An important part of the Sabbath story. Finally, do you feel like this outpouring of love for this lineup is validating everything? Any doubt that might have been back then?
Tony Martin: Yeah, doesnā€™t it just? The biggest validation is from Tony Iommi himself. It wasnā€™t regarded that highly until he sat and listened to it without the bickering going around. When I went down a few weeks ago, he said, ā€œYou did a great job on this. Thereā€™s fantastic songs on here.ā€ I said, ā€œI know.ā€ Itā€™s just that validation that he gives it. The fact that the fans are returning to it. The fact that weā€™ve got new fans coming to it. Whole new record labels. I think itā€™s Rhino in America. Itā€™s BMG in the UK, Europe. The record labels are coming back to it and getting behind it. They see something in it. The management sees something in it. So itā€™s all coming together. Which is a shame because Iā€™m not in the band anymore.
Phil Aston Who knows? Maybe you and Tony will think, ā€œItā€™d be great if some of this other stuff can come out at some point and we donā€™t have to wait another 25 years.ā€
Tony Martin: If he was going to do that, heā€™d say, ā€œLetā€™s just write some new stuff.ā€ But from what Iā€™ve been told, Tonyā€™s touring dates are done now. He wonā€™t be going out on the road again. Thatā€™s probably out of the question for writing. I did tell him I was interested if he wants to do something. But heā€™s got so much going on. Heā€™s still busy. Doing stuff. He had that ballet, the Black Sabbath ballet.
Phil Aston: Yeah, thatā€™s true.
Tony Martin: Never saw that coming. No, heā€™s working on all kinds of stuff. Heā€™s writing new material for something else now.
Phil Aston: So what about you, Tony? Have you got any plans for another solo album?
Tony Martin: I never actually stopped. For the past 25 years, my career took me into the studio and writing for people. My voice appears on 89 albums and projects now. Itā€™s been good for me. I owe everything to Black Sabbath because thatā€™s how the world got to hear my voice. People know what theyā€™re talking about when they talk to me. ā€œCan you write, can you sing on this?ā€ They already know what theyā€™re hearing or expecting. I always try to make it better than what they give me in the first place. A lot of that is me in the studio, and Iā€™m happy, and I still am, happy doing that. But I do tend to choose what I do these days.
Phil Aston: Yeah, that makes sense.
Tony Martin: So Iā€™m still doing the odd thing for people now. I did have a solo album a couple of years ago called Thorns.
Phil Aston: Great album.
Tony Martin: Yeah, totally unknown guitarist from America, Scott McClellan. I only met him because he kept badgering me on Facebook. He kept sending me stuff. I was like, ā€œGo away.ā€ He said, ā€œListen to this. What about this one?ā€ In the end, I listened to it and it was brilliant. So I gave it a go and it turned out really well. But then Covid interrupted that and we couldnā€™t get out there with it. Some countries were saying, ā€œYeah, you can come,ā€ and other countries were saying, ā€œNo, you canā€™t.ā€ It all got distracted. I havenā€™t finished with Thorns because they wanted to do a vinyl for it. They said we had to take some tracks off to get it to fit on the vinyl. I donā€™t want to take any tracks off.
Phil Aston: Make it a double.
Tony Martin: Yeah, make it a double. Write some more. I wasnā€™t prepared for that. Iā€™m pacing up, trying to write some new songs. Scott has sent me loads. Weā€™ve got enough tracks for Thorns 2, but I havenā€™t finished Thorns 1 yet. Iā€™ve got to come back to that. I do want to finish that off and get that done. Then if we can do the next Thorns thing, who knows? Weā€™d like to try and get it out on the road. Getting out on the road for me is so different to the Sabbath thing. The Sabbath machine is huge. They only have to mention it and all the cogs start turning all at the same time all the way around the world. It all starts fitting into place within days, within weeks. On your own, itā€™s different. I canā€™t do that. I have to hire other musicians to go out on the road and rehearse the whole thing and start again with a brand new show. Itā€™s a lot harder for me, but I would love to get back out there. My career took me into the studio, so Iā€™ve got more to do. But I just tend to choose now.
Phil Aston: If people want to get Thorns, is it DarkstarRecords.net? Is that the best place?
Tony Martin: No, Battle God. They are the main label. Darkstar were involved and theyā€™re still there, but theyā€™ve had some troubles in the past couple of years. They were on board and I did two versions of it from between the two territories. I liked that. But mostly now, Battle God is the label to grab hold of it. Itā€™s still available and Iā€™m still signing them. People send me the stuff to sign.
Phil Aston: But I havenā€™t finished yet, so thereā€™s more to come.
Phil Aston: Brilliant. Well, thanks very much, Tony, for all of your time today. Everybody, make sure you go and get a copy on CD or vinyl of this Black Sabbath Tony Martin years box set, ā€œAnno Domini.ā€ Itā€™s absolutely superb.
Tony Martin: Yeah, it is good. Iā€™m just smiling. I think itā€™s brilliant.
Phil Aston: No, thatā€™s it, isnā€™t it? Whatever anyone thinks, these albums are available again. People can hear just how awesome this time for Sabbath really was.
Tony Martin: Thank you. Thank you very much.
Phil Aston: All right, take care, and hopefully Iā€™ll talk to you again in the future.
Tony Martin: Thank you. All right, Phil, thanks, mate. Cheers.
Phil Aston: Well, a huge thank you to my guest, Tony Martin. That was fantastic. Iā€™m almost lost for words in knowing what to say to sum up that interview because I know a lot of you are really interested in this box set, ā€œAnno Dominiā€ by Black Sabbath, which is out on CD and vinyl. Just as I thought, itā€™s sold out already, but thereā€™s going to be another pressing. I was able to ask some of the questions I know some of you have been wanting to know, like why werenā€™t there extra tracks? Why wasnā€™t the live Cross Purposes included, etc. So now you know. Some of it is really exciting because it means there might be a companion set with some outtakes or live stuff as well. Thatā€™s really exciting.
Tony Martin is a fantastic vocalist, really passionate, really imaginative with his lyrics and his vision of how he writes his music. These four albums are essential. Theyā€™re Black Sabbath albums, okay? Thatā€™s what they are. They sound like Black Sabbath albums. Wasnā€™t it interesting that Geezer Butler said Cross Purposes is the best album heā€™d ever played on? It is a truly remarkable album. But they all are: from Headless Cross, to Tyr (which I can now pronounce correctly), Cross Purposes, and Forbidden, which has been given a new lease of life. Seriously, it is incredible. Just stunning.

So my phone was dead and I asked to use her phone to log into our snap and our personal stuff is very relaxed so I thought l'd reply to her snaps and when I scrolled down there was a weird name, I tapped on it and there were saved in chats between her and this guy from our town from a year ago and she texted him a week ago and he left her on open but I can't see what she said. By the way this text or whatever she sent was while I was away for 10 days on a family trip. We celebrate our 6 months tommorow should I bring this up and ask her?

Hi everybody, I'm a student who's currently looking for an apartment/mansion to move into, and I'd like some opinions whether I should move to either the Toda/Toda-Koen or Kawaguchi area. I'm specifically looking for a place just north of the Arakawa River, so that I can easily commute to my trade school within Kita City, Tokyo.
From what I could Google, here's some Pros and Cons that I've figured out.
Toda/Toda-Koen:

At the start of the domain the hour hand can be at the 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th hour, (probably depending on how tired the user is, and with other factors like when they hit a black flash before the domain expansion, or if their cursed energy output is increased before the domain, you'll need crazy amounts of cursed energy if you want the hour hand to be at 3, 2, or 1)
The clock will turn green and spin the minute hand at a random hour, when the domain finishes picking a card, it will spin again
Demonstration: If the minute hand lands on four, it will take 4 minutes to before the domain can pick a card, because since 4 is 8 hours before 12, it's converted to only 50% of the total time, so if the minute clock lands on 1, it will take 5.5 minutes before the domain can choose a card
Special Cards: (Upright explanation before reversed explanation)
Death: It will either break the domain and heal the user, or it will damage the user and not break the domain
Fool: It will turn into a random card, but it will always be only 50% of the power of the buff or debuff
Cards: (Upright explanation before reversed explanation)
Judgement: All curse users inside the domain will have increased cursed energy output OR all curse users will have decreased CE output
Sun: Nothing will happen OR the user will get damaged
Moon: User will preserve cursed energy OR they will use more
Star: Let's say in the next spin, the minute hand strikes 5, if the user gets a Star tarot card before it striked, then it will become 6, if the card is reversed, it will become a 7
Tower: (This is a random one, I couldn't think of a JJK equivalent of this one, I wanted to make it do an earthquake as I was planning to base it on how the card looks in Persona 3/4, but I reworked it) The user will be able to use the sure-hit technique more consistently (faster cooldown). If reversed, the cooldown for the sure-hit technique is slower and there's a chance it won't even pop uo
Devil: It will randomly switch the places of 2 random curse users inside the domain, except the user, if the card is reversed, then the user will always be switched instead (if there's only the user and one curse user, the user can choose when to switch, if the card is reversed, then the curse user can choose when to switch by instinct) This one was kinda just made up like the Tower one but it's a little more inspired
Temperance: The User will be able to use their sure-hit 2 times in one go OR the user can't use their sure-hit attack for 45 seconds (again, I pulled this one out my nose)
Strength: One random curse user in the domain will get increased CE output, OR one random curse will get it decreased
Justice: Similar to Strength, except the random curse user will have their physical strength attributes increased or decreased (besides overall speed)
Fortune: Similar to Strength, except the random curse user will either be more focused/accurate or less focused/disoriented
Chariot: Similar to Strength, except the random curse user will have their overall speed and flexibility increased or decreased
Hanged Man: Similar to Strength, except the random curse user will have their overall endurance and pain tolerance increased/decreased
Hermit: User sees 2 seconds into the future (one time use until another Hermit card is picked, used instinctively), If card is reversed, the user's vision will get clouded for a few seconds
Lovers: All curse users besides the user will get stunned and experience pain for a few seconds, if card is reversed, the user will get this effect instead
Hierophant: If upright, the next card has a lower chance to be reversed, if the Hierophant card is reversed, the next card has a lower chance to be upright
Emperor: The User will get the effects of Chariot and Justice but only 40% of the total effectiveness of these cards, if the Emperor card is reversed, then the user will get the reversed versions of Justice and Chariot, and at a 50% level
Empress: All curse users inside can get "healed" (Similar to Arata Nitta's technique), if the card is reversed, all the curse users willl get wounds (like cuts and stuff, but they're not lethal)
Priestess: User will be more capable of tracing curse energy (from opponents, cursed tool, etc.), if the card is reversed, the user will have a harder time trying to trace down cursed energy (the user will have more difficulty specifically knowing where a curse user CE is coming from, and having more difficulty trying to distinguish multiple CE's if there are more than 2 people inside the domain)
Magician: Permanently buffs one random curse user's ability/skill in their curse technique. (Example: In Ino Takuma's CT, Kaichi, Reiki, Kirin, and Ryu. Only Kaichi will be buffed. Another example, on Megumi's entire 10 shadows, only his frogs will get buffed). If the card is reversed, one random curse user's ability/skill in their CT will get permanently debuffed
Sure-Hit Technique:
When the user casts the DE, the rules of the domain will be put into the minds of the curse users (Similar to Hakari's)
Sure-Hit Attack: (Idk if you can have 2 sure hit techniques but whatever)
The user can occasion spawn a cage to trap the curse users, or he can shackle them. These chains and cages have the same properties as there real-world equivalent, but if they are broken the whole structure will disappear (Example: if you get put in a cage and you cut the chain in half, the whole cage will disappear)
Do you guys think this domain is fair? Are there any problems? Do I have to tweak some stuff? Lemme know

2024.06.01 15:15 demeterLX AITA for giving a classmate a ride home?

my friends and i (all 18F) are on a grad trip with our entire HS senior class for the weekend, there are around 100 of us in total. one guy (letā€™s call him Matt, 18M) in our class is also on the trip, and heā€™s always been kinda socially awkward - he doesnā€™t have friends at school and is pretty much an outsider. i can see why to a certain extent, heā€™s not malicious but heā€™s very gauche with bad manners which is understandably off-putting, our class is usually very welcoming and everyone has friends except him, but iā€™ve always been nice and inclusive towards him. to clarify, iā€™m not saying that he deserves to be socially ostracised as iā€™ve experienced it myself in middle school, but not having clean habits and generally being gauche is on him, tbf.
the other day, 5 of my friends and i went out for dinner, and Matt was sitting across from us alone. i asked him if heā€™d like to sit with us, and though he declined he did come and eat some of our food (after asking). the thing is, my friends donā€™t really know him, and they felt visibly awkward - but in his defence weā€™ve all been in the same school for the past 4 years, so itā€™s not like he was a total stranger either. when we were leaving, i asked if he had a ride back to our hotel, to which he said ā€˜no, i was kinda expecting that you would take me back since weā€™re staying at the same placeā€™. i didnā€™t ask them beforehand whether we could take Matt home with us bc it was a spur-of-the-moment thing and i didnā€™t want Matt to be left alone without any transport back. still, what he said was bizarre to me because weā€™re at a resort town, not our home city - why wouldnā€™t anyone plan a route home from a place theyā€™ve never been to for safetyā€™s sake?
on the way back, none of the other girls were really talking to Matt and were texting my friend sitting next to me up front as a liaison, because they didnā€™t want to talk to him directly for whatever reason, which i felt was really mean. when we got home and he left the cab, they said to me that they donā€™t want to take someone back at random without consulting them first, especially someone they barely interacted with. to which i reminded them that it was a spontaneous decision and it would be far better than leaving our classmate alone in a new place, regardless of whether they like Matt or not - i didnā€™t have time to consult them anyways. AITA?

2024.06.01 15:13 PaulSimonBarCarloson One month after the finale, here's my take for an alternate ending... just for fun

Last month, The Bad Batch came to its end with a quite explosive finale. And I made no mystery that I had a few issues with how this story wrapped up. After all the build-up we had in the previous episodes, the finale kinda fell flat, especially on a few meaningful plot threads that were basically dropped unceremoniously. Of course, I still love this show despite everything; this post is not meant to be a criticism towards the show creators: it's their show, and they did what they wanted with it. But I figured it wouldn't hurt to try to imagine a different ending just for the fun of it. I have no pretension to claim that my take is objectively better by any means; it's just different, some people may like it, other my prefer the ending we got or a completely different one and there is nothing wrong with it.
Also, I need to clarify that this whole thing came to me almost by itself in a moment when I just had the right inspiration to collect all the random ideas I had in the back of my mind and put them in a somewhat cohesive order. I admit that it might feel a little disjointed at times, and for that I apologize, but I wrote it in less than two hours and I didn't want to change it too much before posting it. I'm not a professional writer, and this post is meant to be just a fun experiment. Now, in order for this ending to work, we would definitely need to make the finale longer: half an hour should be enough and would make the finale as long as the pilot. Also, a few scenes, like Omega's escape with the kids and the unleashing of the Zillo beast could be moved at the end of the penultimate episode, to gain a little more time for the finale (would be nice if Omega were the one to control it through the Force, but that's a whole other can of worms I'm not ready to open).
My alternate ending differs from the original in three key aspects: first, Rex is present to play a small but important part in the mission on Tantiss, and ideally he would bring along a few of his men, including Howzer and Gregor. Rescuing the clones from Tantiss has always been his quest since late season 2; the Batch basically tagged along just to save Crosshair, and later Omega. Why would Rex only send Echo on this very important mission? They could have easily explained his arrival on Tantiss in various ways. Maybe they could have said Echo sent him the coordinates. Or even better, they could have showed that the ship they used to hitch a ride on the science vessel had a tracker on it, so that Rex could follow: just like they originally planned to do on Eriadu.
Second, the CX troopers would have a more meaningful role in the climax, without being just reduced to mindless NPCs that need to be killed: Rex and the others know very well that those clones are all victims; which leads me to the third, most obvious, point: Tech is revealed as CX-2. Now, I don't want to start another debate on the subject: no use to argue about it now that the show is over. I had my reasons to believe that the story could only benefit from Tech being alive, and I had plenty of reasons to believe CX-2 was actually him. This is just my opinion, and you are not forced to agree with it; if you think Tech's disappearance was handled correctly or that it was necessary for "stakes" or whatever reason, then it's fine. It's just that my version works with him being alive, in order to give us a proper pay-off with a complete family reunion. So, now that the premise is over, I can finally start to explain how the ending would be different in my take:
The big changes would start during the scene in the training chamber. Like in the original, while Hunter, Crosshair and Wrecker are being reconditioned, Hemlock does his evil monologue, where he mentions the last time they saw each other, after losing a brother and says that "history my repeat itself". To me, those lines seemed to be specifically written for a Tech reveal, so in this scene Hemlock actually has CX-2 unmask himself: maybe he could say something like "Isn't this a lovely family reunion?", while the others are being reconditioned, and can't even say a word as they look in horror at what their brother has become. As Hemlock leaves the room to answer Tarkin's call, Echo, Rex and the others are the ones dealing with the CX troopers down below while CX-2 (and not the other big guy) is the one watching over the others as Omega comes to rescue them. As soon as Omega recognizes Tech, she calls him by his name, and hearing it for the first time causes something to trigger in the assassin's mind. Then the scene goes differently after Omega frees the others.
They all try to fight against Tech who still has the upper hand for various reasons. We know he's a capable fighter and the smartest of the group. He's also actively trying to harm them, while the others are pulling their punches. Not to mention Omega is too weak for him, Hunter and Crosshair are already depleted and Wrecker is also injured. During the fight, however, the others try to talk to him, and he clearly starts to hesitate, especially when he hears some words that he might recognize. Even after being incapacitated, Crosshair is the one that's more desperate in trying to reason with his brother, by bringing up his personal experience with the chip and telling him that it's never too late to do the right choice. But then Hemlock, noticing Tech's weird behavior, calls him with the order to bring Omega to the landing platform for a quick escape. So he's the one who drags her on the bridge while she still desperately tries to reason with her brother, begging him to remember who he is, possibly referencing that conversation they had in the cave back in season 2.
Now, before the climax, we need to talk about the other 3/4 assassins that Echo, Rex and the others would be dealing with. Of course, they wouldn't just kill them, but they would make an effort not to harm them, trying to stun them instead. Unlike Tech, these assassins won't be freed from their mind control immediately, we could say it's because the chip has made the reconditioning take better hold of them. We'll leave the door open for Rex and the others to figure out a way to cure them after taking them away from Tantiss (no matter what, they're still their brothers). As an added bonus, we could reveal two of them to be named clones that we know of. One could be Cody, since Rampart could have lied about him being AWOL; in this scenario, I would also say that Cody should be the one to cut Crosshair's hand, adding another layer to their interesting dynamic. Another one might be Wolfe, who also might have tried to desert after Teth, or maybe they just took him before he could even start to doubt the Empire (apologies if this doesn't align well with Rebels: correct me if that's the case). This will, of course, add even more tension to the fight with Rex and the others; maybe, as cruel as it might be, he could be the one to kill Howzer, tough it's not mandatory, and personally I don't like pointless deaths.
Now, on the bridge the scene is a little different; my ideas can be a little confusing from now on so bear with me. Omega still gets handcuffed to Hemlock while Tech and Scorch are guarding his escape, maybe with a few more stormtroopers who are easily shot down by Hunter and Crosshair. Wrecker is also there this time: though he doesn't have a blaster, he charges straight towards Hemlock, but Tech shoots him on the shoulder and the leg, neutralizing him. So now we have Crosshair and Hunter on one side, Hemlock and Omega on the other like in the show, but we also have Tech, Scorch and the incapacitated Wrecker in the mix. The ship still needs to arrive and land on this specific platform, so we still have time for a brief verbal confrontation between Tech and the others during this stalemate. Hemlock tries to prove a point by giving Tech the order to finish off his brother, but Crosshair finally manages to breach through him by asking him "When have you ever followed orders?", to which Tech finally breaks free of the reconditioning on his own ("We do not need help. We will figure out a solution, as we always do").
Without thinking twice, Tech shoots Scorch to disarm him but in turn Scorch tackles him off the railing and they both fall; Tech manages to throw a grappling hook on the bridge and Wrecker, crawling on his side, is able to catch the rope before it snaps. Tech is still dangling for his life while Scorch is still clutching his leg, but Wrecker, despite his injuries, is not willing to let him go this time. The tension is high, and the ship for Hemlock has finally arrived, but Omega manages to stay calm and collected and so do Hunter and Crosshair. Just like in the show, she manages to stab Hemlock, allowing Crosshair to shoot the handcuffs with Hunter as a "tripod". Finally free from Hemlock, Omega rushes to help Tech, grabbing his hand after he finally manages to kick away Scorch. After everyone is safe, Wrecker starts to embrace Tech with all the strength he has left, crying as he promises that he'll never let him fall again, while Omega runs to Crosshair and Hunter, and they hug just like in the show: that scene was perfect, so I wouldn't change it one bit. Then of course there is a whole group hug (Echo may join as well), with a softer yet triumphal variation of the main theme in the background.
After the clones are back on the ship, headed to Pabu, Tech apologizes to his brothers for the harm he caused as Hemlock's puppet, describing how terrible it was to act as a soulless assassin while desperately struggling with his mind to break free. Crosshair apologizes to Tech for choosing the Empire over them and for indirectly causing his fall and capture. Tech reassures him not to feel guilty about it, and says that he made his choice when he executed Plan 99, and that, if he could go back, he would still do it, though Hunter jokingly orders him to never do that again, with Omega immediately backing him up. And I don't think I would need to add anything else after this. The rest can go on pretty much as in the original episode; we only need to spare a minute for a proper reunion between Tech and Phee ("Better late than dead") and of course everyone will be sitting under that tree in the end.
And there you have it, this is the best I could come up with after letting my mind wander for a couple of hours. Could have this been plausible? Maybe not. Is it perfect? Definitely not. Is it better than the original ending? I'll let you be the judge to that. But I still wanted to share it with you guys, as a testament to how much I love this show and these characters. Thank you, if you managed to stick this far; whether you liked it or not, hopefully I managed to entertain you a little with my ramblings. Have a good day, and may the Force be with you, always.

2024.06.01 15:13 redemral Trip Report from first time visitor - Amazing!

I asked for advice a few times from this sub and I just wanted to come back and share how much we loved our visit!
I'm from the US (Florida) and have been wanting to go to Alton Towers since I was a kid playing Rollercoaster Tycoon. I'm also a huge B&M invert lover and horror lover, so Nemesis was my dream coaster and top of the bucket list.
I've been a traveling theme park enthusiast my whole life and I've been over to the UK a few times in my life but never made the effort to get to Alton Towers until this year - honestly so overdue.
We went mid week in late April, away from holidays. The park was generally pretty dead, as expected. We did two and a half days. I'm glad we had that much time as we got to do everything multiple times. Weather was good - cool, and only hit major one rain of the days and only for a couple hours.
Here's my thoughts on each ride (approximately in order of ranking), then I'll talk about feedback on the park overall and the hotel:
Nemesis - Amazing! Loved it, absolutely worth the trip. I adore the horror theme and the scenery is gorgeous. I wish it was a slightly longer ride (of course that's a theme with Alton Towers), so I can't quite say it is my favorite B&M invert overall - I think that title still belongs to Montu. But it is very close and I would say a top 10 coaster overall.
Smiler - Loved it! I was not sure I would as I read many things about it being rough, and I am roughness sensitive. Honestly I can say, I did not find this to be a rough coaster. For comparison, at Thorpe Park, Saw and Colossus are pretty much not rideable because of how rough/painful/headbanging they are. Smiler, no, not at all.
I wasn't expecting Smiler to become one of my all time favorite coasters but I think it did. I heard the front row is the only good row - did not find that to be the case either. The front row is best but it's not by much, I found it to be a good ride in every row. Left me slightly dizzy after each half of the ride, but not in a bad way.
Wicker Man - Loved it! I'm not a huge wooden coaster fan overall because I don't have a huge roughness tolerance, but thankfully Wicker Man is not at all rough. I love the theme and the pre-show. The ride is pure fun. We were lucky enough to get a front row ride which was my favorite.
Thirteen - I think this is overhated - I really enjoyed it! The theme is great (I do love horror themes) and I don't mind that this is more of a family coaster. The only thing I would really want to improve it would be a slightly longer drop and an animatronic instead of a static set piece in the drop room.
Galacticair - Despite never having been here before, I've always thought of this coaster by its original name. Really enjoyed it! I'm not the biggest fan of flying coasters in general, and I think I do like that this is less intense than some of the others.
Alton Towers needs to get on a retheme, scenery, and paint job for it though. It's looking a bit rough and could use some love.
Oblivion - It's a fun drop. The first time I rode it, I was like - I walked all the way through this massive queue line for that? I didn't realize it really is literally JUST the drop. Unfortunately I'm spoiled by having Sheikra at my home park. But the second time riding and knowing what to expect, I was like - yeah, this is a really good drop and the black hole theme is cool.
Spinball Whizzer - It's a spinning coaster. You like them or you don't like them. I like them alright - although Dragon's Fury at Chessington was actually amazing. Spinball Whizzer is alright.
Runaway Mine Train - This is a cute family coaster, good fun. I love the long train. Our ride op sent us around 3 times. Only rode this once which was enough to get the idea but I will definitely ride it again next time.
Rita - This is the only coaster at Alton Towers that I'm not really a fan of. Rode twice, first time back row, second time waited for front row. It's worth the wait for the front row. It's a bit rough for me otherwise. Before coming, I honestly thought - who cares if it's just the launch, I love launches! But for whatever reason this launch is kind of mediocre and then the rest of the ride is somewhere between painful and boring.
Non coasters:
Curse at Alton Manor - Loved it! I'm spoiled having been to Disney/Universal a good bit, and I know Alton Towers does not have the budget to produce the same caliber of dark ride - but Curse is really quite outstanding considering that limitation. Love the theme (as usual with the whole park) and they tell a really good story.
Nemesis Sub Terra - I don't think this deserves all the hate it gets. It's a cool experience - maybe not especially rerideable, and the "ride" portion is underwhelming, but it was a fun one time ride. I do wish cooler stuff happened with the egg. Also, the part where it whips your legs really hurt.
Gangsta Granny - Rode it once, it's very cute considering it cannot be Disney level. I do not mean to sound spoiled and hope that I don't - I just know what is theoretically possible with a dark ride, but given budgets, this a very cute family ride.
Dungeon - Did the London one a few years ago and remember liking that better, but this wasn't bad at all. It was a fun time and I'm glad I did it, especially with the Merlin pass discount. Unlikely I'd spend the time to do it again on a return visit. I know it's closing this summer, not sure if that's permanent, but honestly if it was permanent and they replace it with something else, I think that would be just fine.
Hex - Booooooo it was closed. Gives me something else to look forward to when I return, which I hope to do whenever Project Horizon is done.
Food:
Rollercoaster Restaurant: Did this both nights we stayed here. It was mostly alright, I had a burger that was pretty good. The nachos were a joke. The curry chickpea thing was decent. The gluten free menu was pretty pathetic, but at least they had some options so that my husband could eat dinner.
Middle Eastern restaurant by Wicker Man (I forget its name): This was the only place to get a meal in the park that had GF accommodation that we found. For whatever dumb reason, the chicken and chips that they CAN make gluten free is not advertised that way on the menu. But to their credit, the cook was SUPER good about making sure to cook the meal in a safe way for someone with a gluten allergy.
Ate there twice, and the food was actually pretty good.
My only complaint - both this and the one near Rita sell baked potatoes, which are one of the only things in the park we found that would be gluten free, and both days they seemed to run out of the potatoes at midday. One day, we got the literal last half a potato they had left, and the other, they were already out.
I saw that Alton Towers had a notice up about switching suppliers or something and bringing more GF options to their menus... that's needed. Hopefully next time the situation will be better.
Ice cream by the Curse: Ok, I have to say, I was obsessed with this. The black ice cream in the black cone just made me happy. And it was really delicious. Especially with the toppings even if they kept falling off. Got it two days in a row, would get it every day on a return visit.
Hotel:
Splash Landings: No real complaints here, it was what I was expecting. Certainly didn't need air conditioning for the time of year. The staff was very friendly and they were great about storing multiple bags for us both on our arrival and on our checkout day.
The breakfast was good for a buffet style breakfast. Enough GF options to eat a good sized meal.
The only actual complaint I have, and this one is weird, but true - the shower is terrible. It has a half glass door that didn't lock in place, and the sides of the tub are tall. This is a recipe for disaster as it's very tempting to hold the door to try to climb out of the tub... but it doesn't lock, so if you do that, you're likely to fall and break your head open. And if you don't hold on... well, good luck climbing out of the tall tub with nothing to grip onto. Not even a towel rail.
I genuinely don't know how they went with something this unsafe in their design process. I don't know how people aren't injuring themselves all the time.
Overall thoughts:
It's certainly spread out - I was warned. It takes some hustling to get from one area to another in a timely fashion, but I didn't find it to be too much. It sure would be though in hot weather, I'll take cold any day.
Actually my biggest "complaint" is how long the queues are in terms of - walking forever, often uphill, to get to the ride. I'm used to theme parks that are able to section off large parts of the line when not in use which doesn't seem to happen much here.
Legit, it's a workout to ride Nemesis if it's not busy and all you have to do is walk to the station.
I didn't find the park to be run down, unclean, or understaffed. All the staff was great, and operations were great. Multiple trains on everything despite it not being busy at all.
Overall we absolutely loved our time here! It lived up to my expectations for sure. Nemesis, Smiler, and Wicker Man were my favorite things, but I dug Thirteen and Curse too.
And as I mentioned, Rita is the only ride I didn't really like - from someone who has visited a ton of theme parks, only one dud with the rest of the stuff being quality is kind of rare.
I'm so glad I finally got to visit, and I will absolutely be back. Hopefully Project Horizon actually happens and isn't later than 2026... currently that's the year I'd plan to come back.
Can't wait for my return!

2024.06.01 15:04 StopDownloadin But Wait, There's More! 1/?

Had this idea bouncing around in my head about the little ferret guy, Etholin Esila. I figured with him being a 'merchant lord' he'd want to start cutting deals with Emma once the initial curiosity and amazement over Earth tech would have passed. Not sure where this is going, if anywhere, but just wanted to get it out of my head and onto 'paper'.
Thanks to u/DndQuickQuestion for helping with feedback on earlier drafts.
Afternoon Transgracian Academy of Magical Arts
The hulking minotaur loomed menacingly over me. "Crawling along the floor suits you well, Merchant Lord Etholin Esila!ā€ it boomed in an intimidating baritone. ā€œMerchant Lord, pfah! Even a mangy cur such as that Mercenary Prince has a legacy of valor and martial prowess behind his dubious title, but you?ā€
An accusatory finger was jabbed in my direction. ā€œNothing but puffery and bluster to buttress your status as a glorified shopkeep! Your ilk claims to broker fair trade between the Realms, but those with integrity and honor recognize the deceit you employ to conjure false value from nothing." It was difficult to tell if Lord Auris Ping's tirade was aimed more at myself, the Esila clan, or the concept of inter-realm commerce in general.
At the moment, I was more concerned with herding my scattered belongings back into my satchel. While rushing to my next appointment, I had the dubious privilege of colliding with this mountain of a brute. Naturally I was on the losing side of that contest, and was sent tail over head to the floor, scattering the contents of my school satchel across the polished granite. Not one to pass up the chance at a crass display of dominance, Lord Ping had launched into the rant that everyone in earshot was currently enduring.
"Look at you, scrabbling on the floor to fetch your little trinkets, a fitting match for your base and covetous nature!" Fairly pedestrian, as far as character assassination went. Iā€™d been called far worse while helping Father with trade negotiations, sometimes at sword or stave point. One had to develop quite a thick hide when engaging in cross-realm commerce. Especially with many realms having ratherā€¦ absolutist opinions about the value of goods, like Lord Ping here. But I had zero interest in contesting his assertions, despite how idiotic they were.
Haggling or arguing with Pronarthians was a singularly wretched experience. They were infamous across the Realms for their single-mindedness and a compulsive need to have the last word that bordered on lunacy. I didnā€™t have the patience for the endless ingratiating flattery required to bore through such stubbornness. If that wasnā€™t enough, a gentleman of my stature also had to consider Pronarthiansā€™ sizeism; specifically their intrinsic respect for the larger and taller races.
And that was merely the average Pronarthian! Arguing with a belligerent lout, accustomed to deference as Lord Ping? I'd sooner try my hand at flying out the nearby window. At least the loamy soil below would give me a fighting chance, or a jagged rock would grant me the mercy of a swift end.
Instead, I busied myself putting my things in order, taking special care with one item in particular. It was a set of memory crystals I received from the Earthrealmer, Cadet Emma Booker. It was part of a ā€˜transdimensional cultural exchange pilot program,ā€™ as she had described it with her nationā€™s peculiar bureaucratic jargon. I had previously conducted similar transactions in my initial dealings with Cadet Booker, and it was those first tentative steps that convinced me to make Cadet Booker a full-fledged premiere trade partner of the Ocean Breeze Trading Company, the pride of the Esila clan.
The myriad tomes and treatises from Earthrealm, such as the riveting "The Wealth of Nations," amply demonstrated that Earthrealm had an extremely sophisticated understanding of commerce, finance, and logistics. But it was the ā€˜video archive footage,ā€™ transferred onto memory crystals for ease of viewing, that convinced me at a visceral level that these Earthrealmers were a sound investment. I felt it on my whisker-tips, as the commoners back home would say.
"May I offer a helping hand, Lord Esila?" inquired a familiar voice. I looked up to see a scaly, clawed hand extended toward me. ā€œAnd perhaps a sympathetic ear? After all, that was a rather nasty bit of slander from Lord Ping, would you not agree?ā€
Wonderful. This nonsense again.
While I had been lost in thought contemplating Ocean Breezeā€™s latest windfall, Lord Ping seemed to have lost interest and resumed going about his business. Taking his place, as always, was Lord Qiv Ratom, ever ready to sift through the rubble of Lord Ping's latest ham-fisted antics for personal gain. "You will find that my views differ considerably from Lord Ping's. I, for one, admire the manner in which you extract value from your trade partners. After all, does it not require skill and cunning to convince the customer that your wares are worth far greater than their true value? Such nuance and subtlety is lost on the likes of Auris Ping, content to strong-arm what he desires from others."
I paused for a moment, at a loss for words. His tone suggested his 'praise' was sincere, but only stoked my ire further. What in the thrice-damned Hells did he think he was accomplishing? Did he really think that telling me, "Well, I still regard you as a thief, but I APPRECIATE your thieving nature, unlike that uncouth lout!" was going to win me over? Dealing with parties with this attitude to commerce and trade was tedious at best. But ever since making acquaintances with Cadet Booker, whose people's understanding and appreciation of commerce rivaled the Nexians, dealing with the likes of Ping and Ratom was nigh UNBEARABLE.
I rattled off the usual rigmarole we used at Ocean Breeze for clients we wished to keep at arm's length. "With respect, Lord Ratom, the value of the goods we sell is determined by the customer's needs and circumstances. The merchants of my clan arbitrate prices taking such factors into consideration. We see it as our responsibility to provide equitable trade that is not only beneficial to all parties, but also provides fair compensation for the tradesmen involved in executing the transaction."
"But of course, it is as you say," replied Lord Ratom with his signature oily charisma. "Fair and equitable trade, according to the customer's circumstances. Thus, you are but a facilitator of the Fates, a most humble tool of Destiny itself. And one who collects a respectable commission, at that," he continued. He stopped short of winking conspiratorially, but the impish grin playing across his features was a fine substitute. Every mote of my being wanted to shake him until he shed his skin. He continued, "Your... humility aside, my admiration of your clan's cunning and resourcefulness still stands. The insight of one so skilled is always welcome within my inner circle, should you wish to grace us with your presence."
It took all my restraint to not tell him into which orifice he could jam his charity-case friendship offer. After all, I'd been keeping far better and more like-minded company of late. Company that the Baralonian lord was likely dying to ingratiate himself with, given how Cadet Booker and her peer group had taken pains to keep Lord Ratom and his entourage of gossips at armā€™s length. Instead, I left the smug reptileā€™s offer dangling in the air, twisting in the wind for a few agonizing moments while I finished tidying my things. Rising to my feet, I finally replied, "An offer most generous and kind. I will of course, have to consider the circumstances of both customer and merchant. Surely you would not begrudge a humble servant of Fate for waiting for the most auspicious circumstances?" Even at my best, I was hardly a master of rhetoric, so crudely tossing his words back at him was the best I could do.
"As you please, Lord Esila," replied Lord Ratom, finally sensing his return on investment wouldn't be worthwhile, leaving me alone to stew in the hallway. Such was the game played among the aristocracy. I looked down at the bundle of memory crystals in my hands, contemplating on their origin, and how Earthrealm could change how the Esila clan, perhaps even all of Rontalis, played the game.
I continued on my way, thoughts heavy once more.
Evening Ocean Breeze Trading Company, Elaseer Offices, Private Chambers
The Elaseer branch office of the Ocean Breeze Trading Company was a modest affair by Nexian standards, a second-storey affair nestled on the edge of the warehouse district. The restrained yet tasteful trappings were a calculated decision of the Esila clan, proprietors of the trading company. A fine balance had to be struck when it came to outward appearances, after all. Some measure of artful decoration was necessary to appease the Nexian eyeā€™s obsession with projecting might and wealth, but not so much that it would attract too much attention.
Only in the private chambers would a guest finally see some personality in the decor, and a generous measure at that. These were the chambers of the nobleman assigned stewardship of these offices, Lord Rikad Esila, uncle to Etholin Esila. Colorful murals with aquatic motifs adorned the walls, highlighted with tastefully matching lacquered panels featuring artwork done in mother-of-pearl inlay. Similar decor was present in the dining room, where uncle and nephew were currently enjoying what Rikad thought would be a leisurely dinner.
CRACK!
The sharp sound rang out loud and clear in the small room, the source being a steamed crab claw, dashed to pieces on a smooth river stone placed between the two diners at the table.
Lord Rikad's branch of the Esila line hailed from the wetlands of Rontalis that opened up into the sea, and they regularly partook of the ocean's bounty. In antiquity, they were known to smash shellfish and other armored morsels against stones they carried with them to lay bare the tasty prizes within. This dining set configuration was a modern interpretation of that old tradition, with a communal stone for guests to open their shellfish.
Of course, such a homestyle service was available solely behind closed doors and shuttered windows and only then to Rikad and his close associates. Here in the Crownlands, such a 'barbarous and unseemly' artifact would be frowned upon by the prevailing Nexian culture and their gold and mother-of-pearl seafood forks that split the shell with a simple tap. But young Etholin labeled that languid dining as a boring conversational backdrop, inferior to the communal excitement of a well-placed strike.
Etholinā€™s spirited strike had a strong measure of anger behind it, a fact not lost on Rikad. "Steady now, lad. The aim is to crack the shell, not grind it to powder," chided Rikad, an otter clothed in well-tailored robes that melded practicality with muted elegance. He looked aged and gray compared to the ferret-like Etholin, clad in sumptuous silks and embroidery that assertively declared the young lordā€™s wealth and standing. Etholin hung his head in embarrassment. "Apologies, Uncle. I lost the reins of my temper."
"Well now, aggravated enough to make a mess of my dining set," observed the older gentleman. "It takes a great deal to get your humors churning like this, from my experience. So tell me lad, what urchin needles you?"
"Ugh, more Academy theatrics, what else? With Lords Auris Ping and Qiv Ratom being todayā€™s star players."
"Ah, The Dunce and the Devil," remarked Rikad, nodding with understanding. This wasn't the first time his nephew had related the pestilent pairā€™s antics. "What two-act farce did they put on this time?"
"Ping opened with the usual blather about merchants being honorless tricksters, with Ratom swooping in to capitalize on the aftermath. Textbook at this point, really," explained Etholin, waving his hand dismissively. "It... it was just the way those two put forward their thoughts. In isolation, each would have been merely irritating. But with one following the other, I was ready to grind my fangs to nubs! To be cursed as a thief on one side, only to be praised as a thief on the other! It was like they were wielding ignorance as one would a greatsword, and managed to cut me with both edges! Gods, I wanted to THROTTLE the idiocy out of them!"
"ā€˜Tis to be expected," said Rikad in consolation. "A great many noble families, even entire Realms at times, came about their status through force of arms or magical prowess, and thus they hold a dim view of commerce as a profession. It is a routine chore for us, navigating around them to find those with less absolutist views on the worth of goods, or more forgiving definitions of 'honest work'. An Adjacent Realm that does not cheat its creditors by altering the weight of its coins or debasing them with base metals and insisting otherwise while hiding behind the safety of their portal is worth its weight in gold."
"Sometimes I feel we ought to cut them out of our affairs entirely and deal with the Nexians, directly and exclusively," mused Etholin bitterly.
"Now, now, though your anger is justified, that's hardly reason for it to take hold of your mind's rudder," cautioned Rikad with a frown. "The Nexians have well-developed philosophies on trade in line with our own, but we only have the resources of a single Realm at our disposal, while the Nexians can leverage the bounty of their never-ending and mana-rich lands. Dealing solely with a behemoth that can devour us with a thought, no matter how frictionless those dealings are, is hardly my idea of a beneficial partnership."
Etholin sighed. "As always, your counsel is sensible, Uncle. Like I said, I lost the reins of my temper in a moment of weakness."
"Don't be so sour on things like this, lad. Our base nature gets the better of us at times, that is the animal within that we all struggle with. That you acknowledged such a lapse and took back the helm is proof that civility prevails. But, enough moping about!" Rikad jumped out of his seat with a little pep in his step. "Looks like we need to guide you back into good spirits, and I know JUST the thing for gentlemen such as us," concluded the elder merchant, twirling his whiskers playfully.
"Somehow I think a night at the theater or music halls will do little for me, Uncle. Or are you suggesting we seek respite at the bottom of a tankard?"
Rikad snorted derisively. "Oh please, I'm not senile yet, pup! Since when has SPENDING money brought joy to anyone worthy of the Esila name?" That made Elothin perk up a bit. Rikad continued, "No, I speak of a PROPER good time, I speak of..."
"COMMERCE!" they cried out in unison, fists held aloft in a triumphant pose. "Does that mean..." began Etholin.
"Indeed, we've just received the latest prototypes for the centralized mana ampoule, linking cords, and so-called 'mana motors'. Perfectly timed with the parts delivery from Cadet Booker not two days ago. Sukie, be a dear and clear this up, and have the remainder bundled up and sent to the young master's rooms at the Academy." Rikad motioned for the housekeepers to clear the table, then ushered Etholin to his private offices where they could discuss business strategy in depth.
Uncle Rikadā€™s offices were more than just a cozy place where Etholin could get a taste of home. Officially, Rikad was stationed here to oversee the administration of this branch office of the Ocean Breeze Trading Company. In reality, the office was a means to circumvent the Academy's prohibition against students communicating regularly with their home realm. Many aristocratic families employed similar cheats and dodges involving ā€˜familial dutiesā€™ and ā€˜business obligationsā€™ to skirt the rules. If the Nexians cared about closing such loopholes, they didnā€™t show it. Perhaps the quaint maneuverings of their lessers amused the elves, who could say?
In this case, Rikad and Etholin were leveraging this loophole to the fullest, as they strategized on how to execute the next steps of their latest commercial venture, which Rikad would then relay to the head offices in Rontalis. As their planning session drew to a close, Rikad remarked on the time. ā€œWell, it would seem that evening has fast become night. You are welcome to stay overnight here, as always, or perhaps you would prefer to retire to the Academy dormitories? Either way, I doubt youā€™d want to watch an old man doze off in his reading room listening to music.ā€
At the mention of leisure time, Etholin's eyes widened in surprise, and he began rooting around in his satchel. "Oh goodness, I entirely forgot!"
"What is it, lad?"
"Oh, Cadet Booker has provided us with more of her 'video archive files', transcribed to memory crystal," explained Etholin as he produced the set of crystals from his satchel, perfectly sized for the compact projection device that Rikad kept in his rooms.
"Ah, splendid! Another of the young lady's documentary presentations on commerce? Or perhaps one of her theatrical serials? Both are fine ways to while away the night."
ā€œIā€™m not sure, but Cadet Booker said we would enjoy them a great deal,ā€ said Etholin as he placed the crystal into the office's projector. As the machine spooled up, a moving image was cast onto the whitewashed wall across the room. As with all Earthrealm recordings, it was entirely mundane, bereft of any sign of manafields. Compared to mana based memory shards, Earthrealm recordings felt like faded sketches. None of that hindered the recording's impact on the viewers.
"Hoh? This is-" exclaimed Rikad, eyes lighting up in recognition.
An Earthrealmer with a thick, lustrous beard strode into view, his confidence and enthusiasm palpable despite the muted colors of the recording. The Earthrealmerā€™s voice rang out from the projector, carrying that same confidence and infectious enthusiasm like a barker worthy of the title of Grand Master.
Rikad and Etholin cheered in unison.
"HI! BILLY MAYS HERE, WITH ANOTHER GREAT PRODUCT!"

2024.06.01 15:01 BrianLevre I was wondering... do people in this sub refer to their Elements by chassis codes to signal their awesomeness?

I have a Fit and have noticed a portion of people in the Fit sub will say "I want another GK" or "Will this fit a GD3?"
I don't know anything about how many generations the Element has, but if it only has one and there were no changes during the model run, do people still call it a DE5 or whatever? If it has more than one generation, do you guys just say 1st gen, 2nd gen and so on?

2024.06.01 14:56 28ftdt am i in the wrong for break up with my boyfriend?

okay this is gonna be confusing because iā€™m a bad story teller but for the sake of the story im gonna give my ex a fake name Beck (16 m) and iā€™m 16 (girl)
this is a very big ramble so my apologies
now me and beck became friends in january 2024 and right off the bat i told him i was bisexual because some people had issues with it and if he was going to have an issue with it id rather it happen now and not when we were better friends but he said he didnā€™t have an issue with it and it never rly got brought again other then small comments/jokes like sometimes id say something about being bi and heā€™d say ā€œbut you donā€™t rly know if youā€™re bi because youā€™ve never been with either of themā€ and iā€™d be like ā€œyeah i do like how do you know you like girls? itā€™s the same thingā€ and we would drop it. (this is important i promise lol)
(another thing i feel like i need to say is that im assigned female at birth, but recently ive started to wonder if im trans, and atp im pretty sure i am im just scared because of my parents and other reasons but just keep this in mind)
beck started dropping hints that he had a crush on me and even started telling my friends that he liked me. i tried to be pretty up front with the fact that i didnā€™t like him like that and he seemed to understand and it was never brought up for a few weeks and then in feb/march ish i started to develop a crush so i told him because i wanted to be up front about it and he said he did like me and we decided to go slow with it because it was just new and we started dating mid march (it was rly fast looking back at it)
looking back, beck had always been pretty standoffish about his sexuality, like he could joke about other people but no one was allowed to joke about his, because he was straight and he didnā€™t like it when people joked about it other wise, which was annoying because he was being hypocritical but i just wrote it off and ignored it because i thought i was being dramatic. now, around mid april i started realizing how uncomfortable it made me when beck would call me his girl and a woman and i realized i didnā€™t want to be his girlfriend but his boyfriend. i was scared to tell him because again heā€™d always been so adamant that he was straight and always seemed disgusted otherwise. i brought it up and he was just kind of quiet and said heā€™d love me anyway but then a few seconds later called me a girl again so i felt like he wasnā€™t really listening so i just tried to write it off again
a month ish goes by of me trying to explain my worries about us staying together with me being trans and how his parents would react and how he wouldnā€™t rly like it when i didnā€™t look like a girl anymore and he would always write it off and say it wasnā€™t a big deal and it would be okay. right before the two month mark of us dating i broke up with him because i just felt like we were too different and it just wouldnā€™t work with where the two of us were at right now because he wanted to have kids and get married and i really didnā€™t want that so i thought it would be best to end it before either of us got more involved in the relationship. beck pretty much obsessively texted me for around a week after i ended it and the majority of it was just him begging me to change my mind and saying he was sorry and he loved me and couldnā€™t live without me and that i was his only source of happiness. iā€™m not going to lie, i really could t take him seriously because we had been dating for barely 2 months, and only known each other for about 6 months. this behavior continues for days on end and he starts posting on socials about how he doesnā€™t care about anything and he starts vaping and skipping his classes which worries me because i donā€™t want anything to happen to him and itā€™s my fault heā€™s using so i was trying to fix it yk? all my friends said i was being stupid and needed to block him but i felt bad about it. i did eventually block him on some things, but i unblocked him because he asked me why i did it and i didnā€™t know what to say because i felt bad and thought i was being mean.
he also cried to anyone that would listen about how much he missed me and how he couldnā€™t eat or sleep. he called a few of my friends and just cried and would be upset if they didnā€™t answer him.
a few days go by and heā€™s kind of calm down on the begging and we kind of start to be friends again and he keeps asking me why i didnā€™t want to try and fight for our relationship because in his words ā€œif i actually ever loved him i wouldā€™ve fought for himā€
i tell him that it just wouldnā€™t work out because (among other reasons that are personal) i want to be a guy and that heā€™s straight and doesnā€™t like men and beck said ā€œwell it wouldnā€™t even be gay anywayā€ which was whatever i just kept reiterating that i want to be a guy and he said that he wanted me, as his gf or as his bf, that he didnā€™t care and that i wouldnā€™t even really be a guy anyways, that i would always be a girl. that stung, im not gonna lie, but whatever. i ended up asking him the if he was straight, because if he said yes i was going to say ā€œyou canā€™t be with me and be straight because iā€™m not a girl. iā€™d be your boyfriend youā€™d have a boyfriend. not a girlā€ but then he says ā€œactually iā€™m biā€
yall. when i tell you my jaw dropped i mean my jaw DROPPED. i was like wtf you were literally ready to fight ppl over calling you gay as a joke.
i asked him if he actually was or if he was just telling me that because it was what i wanted to hear and he said no that he really was so i believed him because i didnā€™t have a reason not to and he asked if we could get back together and i said no, because of the transphobic things he had been saying and just the way he treated some of my friends bothered me, and he seemed upset and just said agin that if i really cared i wouldā€™ve tried to fix it and that i was only hurting myself and i said that i was fine and we have only spoken in short convo since then, which was like a week ago
i know none of this probably makes sense but i need someone to tell me if im being crazy and if i led him on and broke his heart for nothing because i feel rly bad. like maybe i shouldā€™ve ignored what i was feeling and let him be happy but then that wouldnā€™t have been fair to him because he deserves someone who loves him the way he loves and i canā€™t give him that
my friends and mom think that he is trying to manipulate me and lovebomb me but i donā€™t think thatā€™s his intention
anyway thoughts are appreciated šŸ˜»
some notes in case my rambles didnā€™t make sense- iā€™m bisexual, basically everyone but my family knows because it wouldnā€™t be safe. to the general public, iā€™m a cis girl, but to my closest friends they know that im thinking about transitioning when itā€™s safe but i havenā€™t picked out a name or changed my pronouns yet, if that makes sense
as far as i know im the only one that beck has told heā€™s bisexual . actually he said during the last convo that he told me he had dated a boy before me but i cannot recall that convo at all?? which doesnā€™t mean anything but i feel like its worth noting
keep in mind we have only known each other since january and began dating mid march to mid may, so this all happened in the span of 5 ish months. very teenage angst i would think
(i didnā€™t really proofread so im sorry for bad grammar or mistakes )

2024.06.01 14:54 ParticularlyAvocado Teen Titans Reviewed: Every Episode

1. Divide and Conquer - 4/5 (Slapper intro. Pretty good for a pilot episode, but it felt like they rushed into character drama a little too quickly. Like, I only JUST now met Robin and Cyborg for the first time, so this big breakup doesn't really hit as hard as I imagine it could had it been a later episode. The animation of this show is very fun and different from typical action cartoons, though. Stuff like the characters turning into chibis and going horrendeously off-model for gags is great stuff.)
2. Sisters - 3/5 (Immediately more character conflict and drama. I'd say this one works a little better, but again, I only really now just met Starfire, so there's not a hugely established friendship between her and the Titans enough yet. On the other hand, perhaps that's for this episode's benefit, as it's about her feeling replacable, which would not be very realistic after having been established as BFFs for several seasons. And I did think her and Robin's chat was really sweet, so whatever. Also, Blackfire is just a color swap of Starfire. Sunny Tennyson much?)
3. Final Exam - 4/5 (So this episode was the first to air, but is not the "real" pilot. Strangely enough, it would almost have worked better as a pilot, since it introduces the characters in their HQ immediately followed by showing how they work as a team. The H.I.V.E. aren't the most interesting villains but Gizmo was pretty amusing. What was with the lighting in the scene where they get out of the water though? Looked strange.)
4. Forces of Nature - 4/5 (Thunder's Sonic eyes is freaking me out. Please separate them... Anyway, decent episode, even if it's mostly just Thunder and Lightning wreaking havoc and getting moral lessons from Beast Boy.)
5. The Sum of His Parts - 5/5 (Fixit. Wow, clever name. Sarcasm aside, pretty great episode. It's interesting to see Cyborg's abilities explored, and the eerieniess of Fixit about to forcibly make him a full robot was highly engaging. Although while that IS the main story, the majority of this episode is spent with the other Titans fighting Mumbo Jumbo for some reason. Not that it's back, since I liked the zany wackiness of it. But it definitely didn't need take up that much time. Also, he briefly became a Canadian from South Park.)
6. Nevermore - 4/5 (Thunder and Lightning, Mumbo Jumbo, and now Doctor Light? So far this show has had really lame villains. Not that it's a huge detriment, because unlike other superhero cartoons, the focus in most episodes seem to be more on the inner workings of the Titans themselves as opposed to whatever villain they're facing, so I guess they just pick goofy ones to jumpstart the actual plots. Which in this episode was pretty amusing. Raven's a lot more mellow than her appearance would let on. I thought she would nearly murder Cyborg and Beast Boy for breaking into her room, but she was just slightly upset. Oh and, uh, what was up with intro being in Japanese?)
7. Switched - 4/5 (Just as I mentioned the villains being "lame" in the last episode, I thought Puppet King was pretty interesting. He's not like, compelling as a character or anything, but I found the puppet schtick fairly amusing to watch. As for the actual story, while "body swap" is not the most original idea for these kinds of shows, I still found it endearing how Raven and Starfire learned about one another. But the fact that they still keep their voices makes me go grrr.)
8. Deep Six - 3/5 (There's that Japanese intro again! Apparently it's used for episodes that are more comedic, while the English is for the "serious" ones. Guess I'll see if that assessment holds up under scrutiny. So this is mostly an underwater episode, which, while not a bad setting by default, feels pretty uninspired when it's nothing but blue backgrounds and rocks. Raven horning for Aqualad sure was a sight to behold, though. Felt a bit out of character.)
9. Masks - 4/5 (Wow, Red X was Robin? No way. It's not like they had the exact same voice or anything. Anyway, as good as this episode might be, it's really just some setup for Slade's schemes, which is really only vaguely hinted at whatever it is. As a result, I don't really have much to say. Starfire's lecture about Robin not trusting them was a bit "wha" though, because, yeah, if they knew Red X was Robin, they would've held back, and it would not be convincing.)
10. Mad Mod - 3/5 (Sheesh, this episode hurts my eyes. It's a funny one, though. And it has the Japanese intro, so I guess that fact about it was true. It's nothing but the Titans chasing some Brit for the entire episode. 20 minutes of pure zaniness. And Mad Mod was a pretty amusing gag villain. I also really liked the song "K2G" that played during that Scooby-Doo parody montage.)
11. Car Trouble - 3/5 (Gizmo drove away with Cyborg's car JUST as he arrived to confront the guys who initially stole it. He would have been right in the vicinity of it, how did he not notice it driving away? LOL. Also why do the two crooks calmly tiptoe around and vaguely say they "lost it" instead of just "some guy drove away with it right behind you like 10 seconds ago!".)
12/13. Apprentice - 5/5 (Slade merely wanting an apprentice is a bit of a confusing motivation. Like, for what purpose? Once he's fully molded Robin, what does he intend to do next? Take over the world? Not that it matters, since the conflict of Robin having to betray his friends to save their lives was thrilling enough. Although part 2 is obviously the better half, because the first is mostly just setup for that. Robin also makes a sick Batman reference, but can't directly mention him because of the Bat-embargo. LOL. Side note, the effect of the probes being the characters becoming...orange with a buncha circles wiggling around them was odd.)
14. How Long is Forever? - 5/5 (Robin just brooding in front of the speakers was funny. LOL. Anyway, the way time travel is handled here is confusing. I suppose it always is, but here it seems to function so that during the period Starfire was travelling 20 years, she simply did not exist during them. But she came back to the past in the end, meaning historically, she always returned. So instead of time travel looping around itself, I guess in this series when you travel, you're just gone. And if you return, the timeline you go back to will be a completely different one. That aside, it was neat to see the future Titans, although sheesh my guy Beast Boy aged horribly. And I find it hard to believe the entire city would become a dystopia like this, considering the Titans aren't the only heroes around.)
15. Every Dog Has His Day - 5/5 (Pretty solid for a zany comedy episode. Beast Boy becoming a dog to get bitches (pun intended) was funny. And the whole schtick of the Titans mistaking an actual green dog for him lent itself to a lot of good comedy. The reveal that that the dog is actually intelligent and can speak sort of "ruins" what made that aspect funny in the first place, but it doesn't affect the episode's quality or anything, so that's just a nitpick. Soto was pretty freaky though. Reminded me of Tiny from Ben 10.)
16. Terra - 4/5 (Yikes, Terra is scrawny. She's like a walking stick. I guess she has earth powers, although it's not really explored how or why. Though, at this point in the show, I've obviously learned that stuff is not something it prioritizes. Anyway, this episode is very good, but it's mostly just introduction to Terra and then a teaser that she is Slade's new apprentice victim. I'm interested for where that goes, but I don't have much else to say about this one specifically.)
17. Only Human - 4/5 (Not to go all Facts & Logic:tm:, but humans also have a limit to which they can use their muscles, so on a technical sense, Cyborg's conflict in this episode doesn't make much sense. Especially since he exceeds 100% by the end anyway, showing it was always possible. Not to diminish the story or anything, because I did find his conflict around it genuinely engaging. And the moment when he rises up to the challenge to actually beat Atlas is obviously very cathartic and rewarding. But also LOL that Atlas picked a beef with Cyborg over losing in a video game.)
18. Fear Itself - 4/5 (Here I spent the entire episode expecting the "obvious" reveal that everything scary that happened was a prank by the Titans to prove to Raven that she can be scared. Guess I was a little overconfident in that since it turns out she was just accidentally doing it herself.)
19. Date with Destiny - 4/5 (Hey, it's Spider-Man. I mean, Fang. That was a pretty freaky character design. Just a guy with a huge spider as his entire head. This episode felt like it ramped up the wacky animation to 11, particularly with nearly every motion Kitten makes. And that bit with Starfire's mouth falling into the punch stuck out, too. That aside, pretty cute episode. Starfire's jealousy is amusing.)
20. Transformation - 3/5 (Does the Titan Tower only have bathroom? That's ridiculous. It's huge! Anyway, not to complain about power inconsistency or whatever, but Starfire being able to instantly fly several hundred thousand kilometers away from Earth pretty much instantly, not to mention be able to breathe in space is a bit excessive. She's not Green Lantern... That aside, this was alright. It's neat to find out more about Tamaranians, but Starfire has already learned the "my friends will like me no matter what" lesson before.)
21. Titan Rising - 4/5 (Why is Raven so pissy at Terra? Like, I know she's moody and has a low temper, but raging at someone just trying their best? A bit out of character. That said, I still enjoyed the rivarly. I like Terra on the team. It's fun that they're expanding the roster.)
22. Winner Take All - 3/5 (Why does the Master of Games need people to lose a battle before he can absorb them and their powers? Why doesn't he just do it to all of them on the spot? I found it funny that Beast Boy lost the first round. When the episode began I was expecting some epic final battle between the three main characters. But nope, he just loses and is gone for the rest of the episode.)
23. Betrayal - 4/5 (That was a bit of a rushed betrayal. Terra is introduced in one episode, instantly leaves within the same one, makes a big comeback 4 episodes later, and betrays them in the very next while it's treated like some devastating loss to the team. Well, there is the game episode in between. But also she isn't even in that save for a silent cameo in one shot in the end, so that barely counts! That said I still liked the emotional beats of the story from Beast Boy's perspective and such, so I'm not hating on how this was done. I just think this could've meant more if she actually was a member of the Titans for the episodes leading up to this betrayal. On a lighter note, I liked Beast Boy's theatrical scenarios of how he should have asked her out.)
24. Fractured - 3/5 (So in-between the previous, serious, dramatic episode, and the upcoming 2-part finale which will obviously be about Terra, they felt they needed an episode about some annoying imp doing zany nonsense. Not that the show is a stranger to that stuff, but this wasn't nearly as charming as Mad Mod.)
25/26. Aftershock - 4/5 (Pretty standard "epic finale" fare, but obviously it's good because I liked this Terra arc, as rushed as it may have been. Her turning on Slade and even being the one who ends up killing him was pretty thrilling stuff. I didn't think they'd actually go that far, considering he's like the main villain of the series. But while that final battle between Beast Boy and Terra was pretty great due to the resonance and such it contains, I feel like the episode took up a lot of time having the Titans fight various miscellaneous characters leading up to it, that just wasn't as interesting. Side note, Raven and Terra just being colored completely brown to simulate being muddy stuck out to me. I don't know why. Mainly because most shows would draw wiggly lines to simulate the muddiness, not just one blank color.)
27. Deception - 4/5 (I know this show is episodic so stuff like this is bound to happen, but it is a bit eyerolling that characters seem to just learn the same lessons over and over. Like in this episode, Cyborg is beating himself up over being a cyborg, but by the end he accepts himself the way he is. A lesson he has learned in 2 episodes prior to this already. Not that I didn't think it was well done. His chat with Starfire was sweet, and the whole thing about him being undercover was entertaining too, so it's not much of an issue.)
28. X - 4/5 (So some guy steals Robin's Red X costume and takes up the mantle... But he also conveniently sounds exactly like Robin? Sure, because THAT makes sense. For the most part this episode is just baiting you into wanting to know who Red X is, but then NEVER answers it. Pretty rude. Nevertheless, it was still interesting. Also Professor Chang's design reminds me of Inspector 13 from Ben 10.)
29. Betrothed - 3/5 (Titans just casually flying to another planet like it's a mere road trip. OK. Is The Batman funding this or what? Also, that scene of Robin outside the spaceship made me LOL. Anyway it's interesting to see Tamaran thoroughly explored upon and such, but it's a bit absurd that every single person on the planet wears basically the exact same outfit.)
30. Crash - 4/5 (Cyborg's cybernetic features are confusing. Firstly, how could a digital virus affect his brain, which is clearly a biological component? Second, how and why are there red blood cells flowing in the "veins" of his mechanical parts? Nitpicking logic in a goofy joke episode aside, this was great stuff. I liked that they had to reluctantly get Gizmo to help, and Cyborg going nuts was just entertaining in its own right. I think the interior of his cybernetic parts were interestingly designed, and Beast Boy as an amoeba is just absurd but fun. Although it's inconsistent that he's able to talk while in that form, since he can't when he's any other animal.)
31. Haunted - 5/5 (This was pretty grim, but very thrilling. Given Slade was established as like the main villain of the show, even though it seemed obvious he was imaginary, I kept asking myself if he was actually real or not to come capacity, since I doubt the series would get rid of its main villain that easily. And well, they DID imply somebody else activated the hallucination chemical from the mask, so, like, yeah, he's clearly coming back. That said, if it was all in Robin's head, how did he get all those bruises and rips in his clothes? By punching the air? And why did Beast Boy have a cold in this episode? I guess they needed some comedic relief so it wouldn't be too grim for Cartoon Network.)
32. Spellbound - 4/5 ("Kardiak, you're under arrest". I get it. Because he is a heart. Pretty amusing. Anyway, yikes, Beast Boy sure was mean for NO reason. But the way they made up in the end with Raven even joining him and Cyborg's game of "stankball" was cute. As for Malchior, well, I thought he was a girl until he spoke.)
33. Revolution - 3/5 (Pretty much a rehash of the first Mad Mod episode. He has the Titans trapped in a maze of illusions and they chase him around and defeat him. Which I get is the whole gimmick since he's just a joke villain, so yeah. This was good, but not AS good. The pop-art backgrounds were pretty cool, and I liked how the British flag was the sky in the background the entire time. Plus, British Beast Boy was funny. The "message" about patriotism, democracy or whatever, felt a but muddled.)
34. Wavelength - 3/5 (I guess Brother Blood is growing to be Cyborg's arch nemesis or something. This was pretty average, so I barely got anything to say. Aqualad asks for help, so they take down Blood's underwater weapon and...Yeah. But I liked Bumblebee, and her fight scene with Cyborg had a lot of funny visuals. The bit where he shuts the door on her was amusing too.)
35. The Beast Within - 5/5 (This was great. You'd think it would be fairly predictable to tell a werewolf story with Beast Boy, but the execution really makes it work. Yeah, it's obvious he's acting strange because of the chemicals from the beginning. But his gradual shift from acting macho, to asshole, to picking a physical fight with Raven for NO reason was interesting because of how bizarrely out of character it is. Especially when his "beast" form took the Raven beef to the next level. But on top of that I especially enjoyed the twist that the Adonis guy from the beginning was a second werewolf, and the actual culprit. Robin seemed awfully quick to immediately lock Beast Boy away or straight up murder him though. For a guy who himself was blackmailed into being evil, you'd think he would be more considerate to other possibilities.)
36. Can I Keep Him? - 3/5 (This was alright. Pretty simple concept for a comedy episode is all. Beast Boy fosters a giant maggot and then it becomes bigger and dangerous. Kind of amusing how Starfire got more attached to it in like a day than Beast Boy did while hiding it for months. As a sode note, I liked the design of Rancids robot dog and dinosaur.)
37. Bunny Raven... or ...How to Make A Titananimal Disappear - 3/5 (Pretty good for a zany episode. The Titans as animals were amusing designs, and Beast Boy becoming a lamp instead was funny. Mumbo's song was catchy.)
38/39. Titans East - 4/5 (I like the concept of Titans East, although the only member I find particularly interesting is Bumblebee. I'm always fond of shrinking abilities for the potential practical uses that often go unacknowledged. She never really does anything with it besides shoot some lasers in the bad guys face, though. Speedy and Aqualad are kind of generic, and MƔs y Menos are just gag characters, so yeah. Cyborg's conflict here was pretty interesting, but the way he gets decapitated piece by piece was pretty brutal. But him sticking it to Brother Blood was pretty awesome, and I liked the sweet ending where he decides to stick with the Titans.)
40. Episode 257-494 - 3/5 (Steve Irwin gets mauled by a bear. Anyway, this episode is decent, but it's just an endless stream of references to other things, many of which I am not familiar with, so even as a comedy episode, a lot of the jokes don't work very well. That woman from the lame soap opera was still with Cyborg in the real world by the end because THAT makes sense. But it was funny.)
41. The Quest - 4/5 (Yeah, it was pretty obvious the old lady was the great master. Robin going through challenges was pretty entertaining though, but that snake one... He won by merely grabbing the snake? Sure, okay. The rest of the team dressing up as and pretending to be Robin was probably the best part, especially even Raven joining in.)
42. Birthmark - 4/5 (Welcome back, Slade. This was a very thrilling episode. Really just has you asking tons of questions. Like how is Slade back, why is he targeting Raven now, etc. But also, it was interesting how this potrays Robin and Raven as having a very close friendship. I mean I guess all the Titans are good friends, but these two haven't been explored as a duo at all, so it was interesting, if not a bit awkward.)
43. Cyborg the Barbarian - 4/5 (Silly concept, but I like it. Though given how time travel has been established in this show, Cyborg can't really do anything to affect the future, because everything he will do has already happened in the past. I like the design of the demon... Thingies)
44. Employee of the Month - 4/5 (I found it interesting how this acknowledges Beast Boy a physical task, as opposed to Raven or Starfire's breezy levitating. Beast Boy working at a meat shop itself was pretty funny, and the Tofu villain in the end sells the whole thing for me. LOL.)
45. Troq - 3/5 (The racism episode. The fact that we know what word "troq" is supposed to represent makes it very weird how often we see it used. I mean imagine an episode where they used the actual word this much... Yeah. I think this is pretty well done and what not in terms of being sweet and emotional, especially Cyborg's talk with Starfire and Robin instantly changing his mind on Val-Yor once he finds out. But the action plot they wrapped all this around didn't really have me hooked, and it's a pretty big chunk of the episode.)
46. The Prophecy - 3/5 (This is neat and all, but for the most part it really feels like nothing but setup for a grander plot than something to stand on its own. So while I'm sure the context of this will make the season finale more rewarding, this is just okay. I did get a kick out of Raven pulling up Slade as he was trying to leave just to jerk him around a little.)
47. Stranded - 4/5 (This is a fun episode, but it has one of the worst common TV tropes of all time; Character refusing to explain an easily explainable situation this creating conflict because of misunderstanding. I mean, yeah, Starfire DID describe what a "girlfriend" was, but then she just described what could also be platonic. Robin could have easily explained to her that there's a difference between platonic and romantic.)
48. Overdrive - 3/5 (I like the Billy Numerous theme music, but that's about it really.)
49. Mother Mae-Eye - 3/5 (Well, funny at times, I'll give it that. But ehhhh. Yeah, I don't know, there isn't much to be said here. Liked the scene where Robin spiked up his hair.)
50/51/52. The End - 5/5 (Yeah, pretty epic. The Titans using Raven's power was also cool. I was hoping to finally see Slade's face when his mask was knocked off, but I suppose a creepy half decomposed skeleton is also interesting... Don't really understand Trigon's motivation for, well, all of this though. He wants to take over the Earth and get rid of all life on it, just so he can sit in a giant chair and relax? I mean, the real story here is supposed to be about Raven, so I know it doesn't matter, but that's pretty thin for what's supposed to be the most threatening villain of the show to date.)
53/54. Homecoming - 3/5 (I love specific character focused episode where we see something more personal to them, but Beast Boy's background isn't that interesting and most of the team besides Elastigirl weren't very interesting. But I do find Negative Man's powers cool. Brain is a pretty cool villain too, I love his voice, really intimidating vibes. How are any of the Doom Patrol alive after what happened though? Never explained)
55. Trust - 4/5 (An entire Hot Spot episode? Interesting, since I always find it fun when shows divert from the main cast. Overall fun, but that ending was pretty frustrating though. Hot Spot was so obviously Madame Rouge!)
56. For Real - 3/5 (I do like the Titans East, but this was disappointing. I was hoping for more of a genuine episode in their own town, seeing their feats as a team and friends, as opposed to goofing off with Control Freak. Also one of the villains Brain had lined up two episodes ago is in jail here?? Were MƔs y Menos permanently translated to English for the audience to understand them? I mean I guess I prefer it, since having them two speaking what sounds like gibberish to the rest of the team makes it hard for them to appear as genuine friends, especially since they're mostly attached to each other as opposed to the whole team.)
57. Snowblind - 4/5 (Already loved Red Star and then he's immediately killed before my eyes!! Whyyyy! I was hoping he would gain control of his powers and aid the Titans. How has he still been getting tanks to fill up with radioactive liquid for so many decades though? And that's a pretty small room for two tanks a day over the span of decades.)
58. Kole - 3/5 (This entire season so far the Titans have just been around the world, given last time they were in what appears to be Russia, and now it's somewhere in Scandinavia. It's been an interesting change of pace, sure, but this episode wasn't terribly interesting. They meet some caveman with a little girl, Dr. Light is up to no good, etc.)
59. Hide and Seek - 3/5 (Bobby turning out to be real was a pretty fun "twist". Got dragged out for a while though.)
60. Lightspeed - 4/5 (Another non-Titan focused episode. Kid Flash is randomly horning on Jinx because why not, I guess? This Jinx redemption came out of absolutely nowhere, given how little we've seen of her prior. But Kid Flash is fun, so whatever.)
61. Revved Up - 3/5 (This episode is neat, but given how they are racing for the entirety of it, the constant action was pretty exhausting to sit through. Why did Raven sneezing and Starfire saying the Tamaranean equivalent of "bless you" inform all the villains they are Titans though? Also, infuriating we never got to see what's in the briefcase.)
62. Go! - 5/5 (Love seeing the origins of the team, though it's pretty oddly convenient that these 5 superpowered people (well 4 with powers) just so happened to stumble upon each other, same day, same time, same situation. I imagine shortly after this they occasionally stumbled upon each other trying to fight the same bad guy every so often and decided to start a team. Which would have been more realistic for their first interactions, not all 5 meeting at once. Pretty on the nose Batman reference but they still absolutely refuse to mention Batman.)
63/64. Calling All Titans!/Titans Together - 5/5 (Why is Beast Boy climbing up the mountain as a goat instead of just... Flying? This was quite the epic episode, I enjoyted the intensity of seeing nearly every hero be ambushed separately by different villains. It's a bit strange for the final part to mostly be from Beast Boy's perspective, and with the strange heroes he ends up meeting. I was expecting to see how the rest of the Titans made it to the Brotherhood of Evil base, but it's probably better this way, since it leaves it up to imagination, and it doesn't really matter. Seeing the brain finally defeated when all heroes went into battle was satisfying. Jericho's powers were pretty cool.)
65. Things Change - 4/5 (The amount of quiet and awkward scenes with that sad music was... Well, very strange. The whole Terra thing is a bit weird like, sure, if someone you don't know jumps up to you, acts as if they know you and tells you you've gotten amnesia, you'd think they were insane. But Beast Boy surely has photo proof? Or if not, he could get testimony from the rest of his team?? No??? It doesn't have to jog her memory back, but at the very least she'd realize the truth and know who she was instead of just being so vague and saying cryptic things. Some things she said implied perhaps she did know, because any real person would just yell out the weirdo stalking them, not give emotional speeches about the girl you once knew being gone etc. But all that aside, why did Slade send a robot out just to tell Beast Boy that he had nothing to do with what's happened to Terra? Also, that creatures ability to turn himself into any matter he touches is really cool.)
Movie: Trouble in Tokyo - 3/5 (This has pretty much one of the things I dislike most about movies based on TV shows; Instead of actually focusing on the iconic aspects of the series in question, it goes out of it's way to be as far removed from it as possible by setting it in a whole other country. Bummer, because an ideal Titans movie would really focus on the whole team, and THEIR city. Instead, they're just in Tokyo stopping a corrupt commander (who I knew was gonna be the bad guy from the get-go) who's creating crimes to be a hero. And the thing is with these kind of movies is, perhaps if they actually did focus on the characters relationships, it would be good. But instead they are mostly separated the entire time, just goofing off. And cue the obligatory relationship between Robin and Starfire. I mean, it was obviously going to happen, so it's not as if I mind it, but the drama feels pretty forced. They're heroes, yes, but they lounge around and take time off all the time when criminals aren't around. There really isn't much more to say about this. High-tier average. Although, admittedly, I was finding myself ready to close my eyes and fall asleep nearing the hour mark.)
-The Lost Episode - 3/5 (It's half the length of a normal episode, so it's hard to judge it, given it's not even serious at all. A fun little watch, for sure. Beast Boy walking around with a boombox on his shoulders was funny because of how dated it is.)
-New Teen Titans Shorts (Can't really rate them since they're just shorts, but here's a few throwaway thoughts: I like the artstyle. The lowercase T tower is a funny visual gag. Was Blackfire just killed? So, they finally actually showed Batman on screen (technically)? The hell was up with Cyborg's voice in one of these?)

2024.06.01 14:47 Lawlcopt0r Why Tom Bombadil isn't as overpowered as he seems (feat. The One Ring)

Today I want to talk about Tom Bombadil and his influence on, or lack thereof, on the rest of Middle-Earth.
Tom Bombadil's exact nature is either unexplainable or already explained, depending on how you see it. Tolkien's letters tell us that he represents a kind of selfless joy of cherishing nature (as it existed in England in his youth), without the need to control it. They also tell us that his exact category (as relating to Valar, Maiar, mortals etc.) is intentionally unexplained, to make the book feel more mysterious. (Sidenote: I think that's pretty laughable considering we aren't even told what Istari are in the book propee, and even the basics remain pretty confusing until you read the Silmarillion.)
However, I feel like me and many other Tolkien fans aren't exactly irked by the fact that he isn't 100 % explained, but moreso by the fact that what we do know doesn't seem to jive with other established things we know to be true about Middle-Earth. Most importantly, why isn't he affected by the ring??
Maybe this stuff is obvious to you guys, but when I first read that scene where Tom is unaffected by the ring, I thought it was hugely important foreshadowing. When Gandalf confirmed that Bombadil wouldn't be tempted but also wouldn't be any help in the protection of the ring, I was very confused. On the one hand, this seems to imply that he's more powerful than Sauron, but then why does he stay confined to his little tract of land and never interact with anyone? Or alternatively, if he's too stupid to keep the ring safe, then how is he so powerful?
However, now I think I had been misunderstanding some things.
The fact that Bombadil isn't tempted by the ring when we meet him doesn't come down to power. It is because his mind works differently than all the other characters we meet. He represents a selfless love for nature. When he talks to the Hobbits, he tells them about Hedgehogs living in their burrows, the trees growing along the river, and all this other stuff that reads like watching a David Attenborough documentary. The mere fact that these things exist and thrive is enough for him. When Sam puts on the ring he sees images of Mordor transformed into a huge garden. But Tom Bombadil already has his garden. There's simply nothing to tempt him with. The fact that he doesn't vanish when putting the ring on is easily explained by the fact that whatever he is, he exists in the spirit world as well as the visible world, like Maiar or elves. Vanishing when putting on a ring is a strictly human problem/advantage, because they shift from the seen world to the unseen one they don't usually occupy. (Note that hobbits are biologically human as well, even though this has been forgotten in-universe.)
Another huge misunderstanding on my part was taking Gandalf's words about Tom as condescending. They weren't actually. If everyone was like Tom the ring would cease to be a problem. The problem is that while Tom is selfless, he's also laser focused on his little part of the world, where he is the master. Which brings me to my most interesting thought.
I am way more satisfied with Tom's existence in Middle-Earth now that I have explained away his immunity to the ring. Yes he can also command Old Man Willow and the Barrow Whights, and while that puts him on par with a minor wizard or a powerful elf, it doesn't totally screw with the world order. But an interesting side note to this is that his immunity to the ring would be conditional. Tom isn't totally selfless in the book, when someone gets into trouble in his land he feels responsible to help them. Most importantly though, he's greatly interested in the conservation of his native woodland. Tom Bombadil is currently immune to the ring because everything he could possibly want, he is powerful enough to change, or keep from changing against his will. Free travellers, chase off whights, or settle the occasional dispute between bucklanders and the sentient trees. The weird way his psyche works means that as soon as his immediate surroundings are in order he enters some kind of meditative relaxation state where he just takes in the beauty of nature (and apparently sings a lot). But if we put him somewhere between an elf lord and an Istari on the power scale, that means that as soon as Sauron actually rolls up with his army, Tom would suddenly want something he cannot get. He cannot keep Sauron from burning the woods, killing the animals, or taking Goldberry from him. Which is why I believe, in that very moment he would suddenly become susceptible to the ring.
And that's why it's a bad idea to leave it with him.

2024.06.01 14:43 Special_Archer_6575 Broke up with my depressed bf. Did I make the right choice?

My (27F) bf (26M) and I broke up last night, 10 days shy of our first anniversary. We were supposed to go on a date last night but instead, we ended up parting ways. I was so taken aback. To me, things were going okay. I didnā€™t see it coming. He asked me where i could see our relationship heading towards and from his demeanor I could tell he wanted out (he was drunk by the time we met up btw so idk liquid courage or whatever). He told me heā€™s depressed again and couldnā€™t see himself being happy with me (gosh that tore my heart into a million pieces - here is a guy i was willing to fight for but suddenly he tells me he couldnā€™t imagine a future with me) which is actually quite unnecessary to say for me as we are only in our mid 20s. Too early to think about marriage. For me, as long as Iā€™m happy Iā€™ll stay but di ko lang alam na hindi na pala siya masaya like literally. I knew he had a tendency towards melancholy but last night was the first time I heard him go into details about his depression and it crushed me to see him like that. It hurt to see him hurting. I wanted to stay but I could see he wanted to be alone. Even if I stayed, I might not be appreciated ā€¦ just like a prop on his shelf.
Iā€™m scared to think that he never truly loved me. Was his depression just an excuse to leave the relationship? If he wanted me to, I really would have stayed. Iā€™m also worried that I didnā€™t make this part clear for him and Iā€™m really regretting it. Did he assume I wanted to leave bc he was depressive? Idk. Iā€™m really sad right now. I left him a long message when I got home but he didnā€™t even open it.
I know men really show you how they feel through their actions more than their words and last night I felt so - disposable.
But I canā€™t hate him. Iā€™m not even mad. Iā€™m just so sad he threw out one year within a 30-minute conversation where I had to beg him to explain himself.
I also feel so guilty. Iā€™m assuming Iā€™m part of the trigger because he was clean for 8 years but all of a sudden his depression came back when he was with me. I swear I didnā€™t do anything-no cheating no fighting and I gave him my 100%. I also know thereā€™s no third party bc heā€™s not like that (to my knowledge).
Right now I canā€™t help but blame myself for this failed relationship. Was I too quick to let go? Should I have been more patient knowing heā€™s depressed? šŸ„ŗ

The plot thickens: theyā€™re on a quest, searching far and wide for individuals who stand tall, quite literally, in the crowd.
But itā€™s not just about stature; itā€™s about ambition, the drive to scale new heights. And in this case, those heights are paved with the shimmering allure of cryptocurrency. They speak of a golden opportunity, a chance to join forces and venture into the vast, volatile sea of digital currency together. Itā€™s an adventure that promises the thrill of the chase and the allure of lucrative rewards. What lies ahead? Only time will tell. If you would like to earn on crypto, you can choose more safety ways. I have shared my experience in other articles, for example, about how to earn on a TON project or trading quantum strategy. In this short article, I would like to prevent you from losing your money because of unknowns. Scammers become smarter, and their methods become more and more cruel. Take 2 minutes to read to save your money.

How Beta Testing Scammers Act? (Scam story)

The legend is that they are searching for people who would like to earn with them on crypto.
In Bali, I met a 23-year-old who had figured out how to make a fortune online. Curious, I asked if he could teach a friend of mine. He asked me, ā€œWhy would I create my own competition?ā€ That hit me hard. It was a clear lesson that people who know how to make money, especially in areas like investing and crypto, arenā€™t going to share their secrets easily.
Since my twenties, when I started exploring investments and cryptocurrencies, Iā€™ve been looking for scams. Iā€™ve learned to dig deep to understand how each scheme works. The journey taught me that offers of easy money are usually traps for the unwary.

After the short talk, he offered to try to earn on beta testing.

What is beta testing?

Beta testing in crypto projects shares the core principles of beta testing in software development, tailored to the unique environment and requirements of the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry. This phase involves releasing a projectā€™s featuresā€”such as smart contracts, decentralized applications (dApps), platforms, or even new cryptocurrenciesā€”to a selected group of external users before a full-scale public launch. The goals and processes are similar to traditional software beta testing but with a focus on aspects critical to crypto projects:
Crypto projects often engage the community through beta testing phases, rewarding testers with tokens, exclusive access, or other incentives. This approach helps refine the project and builds a base of early supporters and users. Given blockchain technologyā€™s experimental and rapidly evolving nature, beta testing is a critical step in the development process, ensuring projects are robust, secure, and ready for the wider market.

Remuneration

Remuneration for beta testing in crypto projects can vary widely and depends on the project developersā€™ goals, budget, and policies. Some projects offer compensation or incentives to beta testers, while others might not. Here are a few common forms of remuneration or incentives that might be offered to beta testers in crypto projects:
Tokens or Cryptocurrency: Many crypto projects offer tokens or a certain amount of cryptocurrency as a reward for participating in the beta testing phase. This compensates testers and encourages the use and holding of the projectā€™s tokens.
Early Access: Beta testers might be given early access to features or services available on the platform. This can be considered non-monetary compensation, especially if the project is popular.
Exclusive Features: Some projects might offer exclusive features or benefits to beta testers once they go live. These could include lower fees, special statuses, or access to premium features.
Recognition: Recognition within the projectā€™s community, such as being listed on the projectā€™s website or receiving a special badge or title, can also be a form of remuneration. For many enthusiasts, being acknowledged as a contributor to a projectā€™s success is highly rewarding.
Swag or Merchandise: Physical items such as T-shirts, stickers, or other branded merchandise might be offered as a token of appreciation for beta testersā€™ contributions.
Free or Discounted Services: If the project involves a service with a subscription fee, beta testers might receive free or discounted rates.

How to track beta testing?

Getting involved in the beta testing of a crypto project requires staying informed and connected with the cryptocurrency and blockchain community. Here are several strategies to discover beta testing opportunities in crypto projects:
  • Crypto Forums and Communities: Engage with crypto-focused forums like Bitcointalk, Reddit (subreddits like CryptoCurrency, ethdev, Blockchain, etc.), and others. Developers and project teams often post calls for beta testers in these communities.
  • Social Media: Follow crypto projects, developers, and influencers on social media platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Telegram. Announcements about beta testing phases are frequently shared through these channels.
  • Crypto News Websites: Visit cryptocurrency news websites and blogs regularly. They sometimes feature articles on upcoming projects that might be looking for beta testers.
  • Blockchain Events and Conferences: Attend blockchain-related events, conferences, and meetups, either virtually or in person. These gatherings can provide networking opportunities and information on projects seeking beta testers.
  • Project Newsletters and Blogs: Subscribe to newsletters and follow the blogs of projects youā€™re interested in. Updates about beta testing opportunities are often communicated directly to subscribers.
  • Developer Platforms: Platforms like GitHub, where developers host and share their project codes, can be good places to find projects in their early stages that might require beta testers. Engaging with developers here can also lead to direct invitations to beta test participation.
  • Direct Contact: If youā€™re particularly interested in a project, consider contacting the team directly via their official contact methods to express your interest in participating in beta testing. Showing genuine interest and highlighting relevant skills or experience make you a strong candidate.
  • ICO Listing and Crypto Project Platforms: Websites that list ICOs or track the development of crypto projects can also provide information about projects entering the beta testing phase.
Remember, while engaging in beta testing can be exciting and rewarding, conducting your research is important to ensure the projectā€™s legitimacy and understand the risks involved. Always use caution when interacting with new projects, especially those requiring you to invest money or share sensitive personal information.
3d red flag ā€“ scammers use emotional triggers:
  • Letā€™s try today, and you will earn almost today.
  • You will see that you can trust me.
  • You will earn a lot of money, and I will show you more options.
  • Do you know what compound interest is? My guys earn 50% from the initial deposit in a week.
4th red flag ā€“ they always stay with you.
Time and attention. Scammers will follow you on each step and try to do all you wonā€™t contact any other person\ consult with someone\ or investigate the field. Most importantly, you canā€™t find the information from open sources.
In my case, it is because ā€œThe info is very expensive and from insiders.ā€
When my colleague entered the room, he asked me if he didnā€™t disturb me to be aware I was with him.

Beta testing scam

We accessed the exchange account, and he mentioned that I could use any account that fits my preferences. He also noted that the starting amount could be anything, even as low as $50, just to help me understand the process.
Then we buy the coin WAXP and

asked to copy the MEMO code

And then I should transfer funds to testnetwax15

Of course, with a MEMO.
Then, in 10 minutes, I received the sum I invested + 3% from this sum.

But we needed to do it together three times, and then I could earn it myself.
The key moment came when I mentioned investing $1000, at which point the scammer said he wasnā€™t interested in guiding me if that was all I was considering. However, this contradicted what I was initially toldā€”that the minimum investment amount was irrelevant since their take would be 50% of the total profits.
And then I told him I didnā€™t think I was ready for 5k. He asked me to proceed and then to think. Of course, if I see good returns a couple of times, my greed will be on top.
On the internet, there is no info about WAXP beta testing. But I found this wallet:
Imagine this: Youā€™re scrolling through Telegram, minding your own digital business, when suddenly, a message pops up. Itā€™s from someone youā€™ve never met, but they found you in a shared groupā€”a serendipitous digital crossing of paths. Intrigued, you engage, only to be introduced to another figure, a mysterious character in this unfolding digital tale.

But one thingā€™s for sure: in the digital realm, where fortunes can be made and lost in the blink of an eye, every message could begin a new journey.
