Spring is here, and so are the strawberry rhubarb buns.
I randomly read a blog about making strawberry "cinnamon" rolls and decided to put my own spin on it.
This version has a homemade strawberry/rhubarb jam spread over the bread base with fresh strawberries and rhubarb chunks sprinkled all over.
The base is a easy bread recipe with half milk instead of water, and then after rolling/shaping/rising, I pop a flake of butter on top before baking at 180° for 24 minutes. It comes out as a doughy yet kinda crunchy bun with spots of sweet tart fruit.
My Dad ate 4 today, so I must be doing something right lol. Sometimes for a quick shot of sweet they get dusted with icing or caster sugar.

diy electric double bass i just got gifted!
so the dad of a friend of mine had an electric double bass just collrcting dust in his attic that apparently a friend gifted him and maybe even made himself or got made by another friend. He was just happy knowing that someone was actually using it so he gifted it to me instead of selling it! It screams homemade and feels so special i love it. The pickups go straight to the jack cable though, no volume no knobs no nothing lmao, should I be careful before i plug it in to an actual amp and test it out on a cheaper one? (haven't tried how it sounds yet)

My Gumtree kurbside find: The Panasonic TX-76PW60A
Holy moly, the lawns I would have mowed to get my hands on this CRT as a kid!! Photo's and videos don't seem to do it justice, well worth the 2 hour round trip to pick up this gem of a set.
Considering it was built in 2004, with only 3957 hours on the set, it's barely been used. I opened the set to inspect for anything out of the ordinary, to my surprise, no blown, bulging or leaking caps! Even the tube was relatively clean with just a light layer of dust over the power and main boards.
It didn't come with a remote but I was able to buy one online for $6 and it works just as the original would have. What a bargain!!
The absolute kicker here, it has 2x RGB SCART PORTS! As much as I enjoy being able to use my snes and n64 with an ossc hooked up to my main 4k tv, there's that nice fuzzy nostalgic feeling about being able to play your old favourites in full rgb on a crt. As a kid I had RF on the nes, snes and sega. Then later on I got to enjoy standard composite video with the N64, ps1and ps2. What a buzz that was! "Whoa!! it's so clear" "it's not snowing in my games anymore" 😅
The last crt tv I had as a teen up until 2007 was from Go-Lo I believe, some weird brand called GVA with component rca input. It seemed to support my gamecube and og xbox but the tech inside the set wasn't all that. So long as the image on screen was still, it looked... "ok". But as soon as anything on screen started moving, no good. The image would warp and distort in ways that made you feel as if you were about to go back in time or travel through hyperspeed. Almost like a permanent nos button in need for speed, without the benefits.
I've yet to try this with an og xbox, but something tells me Halo is going to look pretty damn good!
Just going to throw a few photos up. The games are running off an unmodded pal snes with a homemade RGB C-sync scart lead. Looks much better in person.
For those of you that made it this far, if you happen to like cats, I've uploaded a photo of mine. Doing what she does best apparently. Meet Ninja, she's a 14 year old house cat that loves to tinker with whatever it is you're trying to work on. Sometimes she'll even pass you the right tools for the job 🤣

Strange newspaper on the inside of unnamed “Jan 1939” arch top.
Honestly some of the design choices here, like the insane globs of glue runout, aftermarket Klusons, the weird triangulapentagonal neck shape, and the newspaper “enforced” f-hole plates make me think this is a homemade guitar lol
Probably way wrong, likely just a Melody King Regal (owned by Harmony) from my research.
Anyway, this thing was sitting in a barn belonging to the mother of my friend. He gave it to me free of charge, and it’s kind of a learning bed for me. I have been watching lots of Rosa String Works videos for the past few weeks so I had some false confidence going into this.
So far, so good. Taking the back off was “easy” as it was coming up in several spots. (Shoutout to the ifixit prying tool and Japanese dental mixers)
The back braces are loose, the top braces are solid. I vacuumed out all of the old dead bugs and dust. One or two fragments of kerfing got pulled up, so I’ll address that. Overall, it’s not too bad, there’s no cracks in the top or back. Let’s see how this goes

2024.05.29 02:11 TKWander Ghoulish Goods first Sampler review! *9 scent reviews*

OOOH. I was SO excited for these! I got an 8 pack sampler set (which they have a REALLY cool system where you can pretty much get as many samples as you like, and aren't limited to a 5 pack). They came in while I was away on a trip, so thankfully I got to skip a week waiting period and get to them after they had settled a bit, to try them out. Great TAT from this house (got them in within a week or two) AND you got to pick which Freebie you wanted, which was so awesome!
My review of this scent house so far: 4/5. It would honestly be a 5/5, but for that they have such a short wear period on my skin. Pretty much every 2 hours, I'd have to reapply :/ But, pretty much every single scent was really great and accurate to their scent descriptions, and I'll probably still FS buy a few!
Just make sure to slightly mix these guys up by turning them up and down a couple times (not so fast that you create air bubbles), to make sure the scent is fully mixed. You'll read in my notes, some of my first impressions when I Didn't do that. Don't make my mistake lol
My Rating System:
1/5: In my opinion this scent just smells really bad. I am not interested in the least. It is NOT my cup of tea and I would actively run away if I smelled it on someone else
2/5: Eh, it smells more like a scent for a cleaner or laundry detergent or maybe just a room scent. Not a perfume/cologne for me
3/5: Not my cup of tea, but It's well balanced and I could see someone else wearing it! Just not me lol
4/5: Almost perfect, just missing a scent note or two, or doesn't last very long, or dries down powdery/weirdly
5/5: I love this scent and will definitely be wearing it, if not FS-ing it!

Cottagecore No. 1:
Official scent description: It is a warm and inviting blend of blueberry cobbler, wood burning stove, and spice cabinet. It starts off sweet with a buttery rich crust and fresh picked blueberry cobbler. A whisp of spices cut through to break up the sugars. There's a background of smoke, musk and burning wood that lingers in the background but really comes to life on the dry down. The sweetness fades to meet merrily in a dance of oud wood, smoke, spice and cobbler. Feels like a cottage in the woods on a warm summer day after picking berries all morning. A fresh cobbler in the wood burning and comfort in your soul. A gender neutral scent that anyone can enjoy.
Top- buttery crust, cinnamon, incense
Middle- blueberry, brown sugar, wood smoke
Bottom- vanilla bean, oud, musk, amber
My review: Straight out the bottle, it is pure blueberry cobbler, but as it dries, it gets weirdly perfume-y? Very quickly, too. You still get the hints of blueberry, but this powdery note kinda overtakes it all.
After a little bit the powder dies down and do you get more of the buttery crust blueberry cobbler, but this one may not be my cup of tea, sadly :/
2/5
**after about 10 minutes the blueberry pops back up to a mix of spices and blueberries that I actually like! 3 or 4/5. I do wish it had a bit more blueberry throw AND didn't have that weird powdery burst at the first dry down. A very fruity comforting fall scent, I think. Yeah, I really like it for a fruity fall scent**
**UPDATE*\*
I had to try this one a second time after that initial review. Just to try it after shaking it lightly, just a bit, to mix.
Wet I absolutely love this scent. It's giving start of fall and you're making blueberry pie or cobbler and it's spiced with fall spices and you even scraped out some authentic vanilla beans for the recipe and I actually don't get that weird strong powdery note at all! So, definitely make sure to turn samples from this house a time or two, to make sure everything is mixed, but not so much that there are air bubbles. After about 30 or so minutes it dries down to autumn cooking spices, mainly, with mainly a hint of a fruity scent. Still lovely though!
4.5 /5 it would be 5, but pretty much all the scents from this house go poof very quickly on me. All trace of it leaves my skin by 2.5/3 hours

MIDNIGHT CIRCUS
This one was my freebie. My brother and I are putting on a type of Dark Karnival -esque camping event this fall and I really wanted to get a scent to wear there lol
Official scent description: a dark yet lively experience of caramel popcorn, fire, lacquer floorboards and whimsy
Top- hickory, honey, incense, cinnamon
Middle- smoke, amyris, caramel, salt, praline, spice
Bottom- cedarwood, moss, oud, olibanum, amber, musk, leather, popcorn, butter, vanilla
My review: This smells exactly like you're walking around a fall carnival with a big bonfire going on in the middle. Essentially it smells like your favorite fall candle scent, but just a bit more complex with the wiffs of campfire smoke and cedarwood in there. Even though it's the end of May, I sniff it on my wrist and think it's gonna be chilly outside. That feeling you get when the seasons are changing.
Strongest notes on me: wood smoke (though I wish I got more hickory to it), spices (cinnamon mainly), carameled buttery popcorn, vanilla and maybe the honey, maybe praline? It all blends very nicely into a great, if slightly generic, fall scent
Notes I don't get at all: leather, moss, oud. Those are the notes that would probably make this perfectly complex, but I just don't get them out of it. It's pure fall gourmand. I'll probably layer this over a scent that has those notes and need sweetening
Enough of a throw that I get a wiff going about my day
last drydown: dries down to autumn spices, essentially. Reminds me of walking in Gatlinburg in the fall, through all the little shops nestled in the mountain amongst the autumn trees. Completely gone within 3 hours though
4/5

BLACK HONEY
Official Description: Black Honey is a sultry blend of Spiced Honey, black amber, cedarwood, tonka, and tobacco leaf.
My Review:
I like it! I just don't LOVE it :/
The spiced honey notes in this, wet straight on my skin, are my favorite parts, though there is a weird 'Clean' note behind it as an undertone. Maybe it's the black Amber or the tonka. I've been running down a dead note for myself and one of those might be the one. The strong Clean note blends back down into the other notes, after a bit, though. But, going back to it after about 30 minutes, it does still smell very 'clean' smelling. Like, I showered with a dark spiced honey shower soap.
Sadly, I think honey may just be a note so good note for me. So far, it always goes soapy/clean on me :/ I'm hoping it's not just the Honey note in particular, and more just an underlying note or two that generally gets paired with Honey. Otherwise, honey may be a dead note for me :/
Long drydown: it smells like I just stepped into a specialty soap shop. The ones where they sell soaps, beeswax, and honey. And by afternoon my skin just smelled lightly sweet from it. Not my favorite for most days, but maybe on occasion, or to layer in a honey note to my darker more witchy scents
3.5/5 *sigh* I really just want a dark spicy Gourmand honey. Can anyone give me any suggestions for that?? a Honey scent that DOESN'T dry down clean and powdery??

Haunted Library
Official description: This scent will transport you to an old Victorian library. With ceiling high wooden book shelves, Creaky floorboards, leather bound books covered in a blanket of dust, fragile yellowing pages, and musty tufted chairs. Wafting through it all is the scent of sweet tobacco- the scent of the spirit that haunts these walls.
Top- Teakwood, tonka
Middle- cedar, leather, sweet tobacco, molasses
Bottom- sandalwood, Patchouli, mahogany, dark musk
My Review: a VERY light scent. Wow. Make sure you turn up and down a bit to really make sure the scent is fully blended, cause I could Barely smell it out of the bottle. It's a bit Cleaner than what I think a haunted library would really smell like. But, maybe like a lady ghosts' personal library? Overlooking the sea maybe? It weirdly gives off Cape Cod/Northeast coast/maine vibes to me. Like a Ladies Library in a Newport mansion.
I'm generally more of a sweet fruity over complex herbally scent person, or really cool gourmand scents, but I actually really like this scent! I have no clue in what instance I'd wear it, but I really do like it. I'll probably use it to give a tea or vanilla scent more complexity, or after wearing them, maybe even layering it with Stains of scarlet (down below). I don't get too much of the individual notes, but they all blend Very nicely for a femme leaning unisex scent!
As it dried the dust notes got sharper and the molasses got brought out more. First out the bottle, the wood and pachouli notes are a bit stronger. I still don't really get any leather though. My kingdom for a good strong leather scent! Lol. This is like a dainty haunted library, haunted by one of the Bridgerton ladies lol. Sweet, slightly dusty and papery, with a light hint of nostalgia and faded sweet perfume….Oh my goodness, this is Eloise's scent lol, to a T
4/5 only really because it's not really my vibe and this scent house goes poof too fast on me. All the scents from this house poof in about 2.5/3 hours

White Magic
Official description: White magic is an herbaceous blend of sage, lavender, incense and eucalyptus. The sage, lavender and eucalyptus are balanced equally where the incense is more of a background player here. This blend feels clean and comfortable and wears beautifully. Sage can be an off-putting smell to some put it is added subtly to not shine over the lavender. It rings to me, as a comforting freshness that I can't get enough of. This is a gender neutral scent.
Top- lavender, bergamot, pine needles, eucalyptus
Middle- chamomile, sage, camphor, rosemary, pepper
Bottom- Cedar, Sandalwood, incense, Orris root, amber
My thoughts: First out the bottle my first thought was YES!!!!!! Finally a lavender scent that doesn't smell powdery or like laundry soap! It does smell a wee bit Clean, but I think that's more the nature of any scent with these scent notes, since they're used in cleaning supplies and soaps so often. But, this scent is a Super green floral. No powdery note to my nose at all! (and I pull powder like CRAZY lol, it's been a problem for me since I hate powdery scents). This scent transports me to a spa shop full of fresh drying Eucalyptus, sage, and lavender. By the last drydown, the Eucalyptus is the strongest note
4.5 out of 5, only because this scent house goes poof too fast on me. All the scents from this house poof in about 2.5/3 hours ______________________________________________
Memento Mori
Official Description: an intriguing blend of smoked vanilla, dark spice, patchouli and black amber.
Top- smoke, clove, white pepper, blood orange Middle- sandalwood, jasmine, amber, nutmeg, black pepper, cardamom seed Bottom- black amber, vanilla, dark musk, benzoin, amyris, patchouli, cassia bark, ebonywood, dark musk
My review: Not gonna lie, this is almost chrismasy. Like a Dark Yule vibe. The dark spice in there completely reminds me of late fall/early winter spices. It's definitely going to be a fall/winter scent for me. Smokey spiced vanilla and clove. It'll be perfect to mix with an Apple scent to add more Autumn/early winter complexity! It gives walking in late fall/crisp winter when the leaves are almost all gone and you have a cinnamon chai warm in your hands walking out in the cold, vs Midnight Circus which gives off Fall carnival with smoky campfire vibes
By the end of the drydown (1.5 hours, maybe 2), all I get is cinnamon and maybe some other spices, Very light sweetness coming from the vanilla. This'll be a good mixer with some of my more sharp winter woodsy scents from Pineward, for a great late fall/winteyule scent!
4.5 out of 5, only because this scent house goes poof too fast on me. All the scents from this house poof in about 2.5/3 hours

Nightshade Elixir
Official Description: Nightshade Elixir is an intoxicating blend of deadly nightshade, Moonflower Nectar, Elderberry and absinthe. There is a mysterious quality to this blend that keeps it from being too sweet from the berries or too floral from the Moonflower. There is a perfect blend of fruity, floral, spice and mystery. It starts out on the sweeter side to draw you in (from the black currant and agave), before the deadly dark side starts to shine through on the dry down with black tea, saffron, absinthe and Anise. An all together delectable and mysterious blend that will keep you coming back for more
Top- saffron, anise, agave
Middle- Black current, black berry, jasmine
Bottom- amber, tonka, dark musk, black tea, absinthe, dark musk
My review: Okay, this one does go a bit on the powdery/clean perfume vibes. But, I do still like it?? Very strange, considering I hate clean/powdery scents, but this one balances the Clean notes with a juicy fruity flowery vibe that it balances things quite nicely and I can't stop smelling myself. There's a sharp powdery note in there, though, that keeps me from giving it a 4/5. I've narrowed it down to either the Amber or dark musk or tonka. Whatever it is, it's totally a dead note for me. It's popped up in a few other scents over the samples I've gotten, and it's been quite annoying. I May add something a bit juicier to this. But, it almost gives Spring Fairy Queen vibes. fruity and florally, but also a bit perfumey and stringent
3.5/5 I do like it, it's just a bit too powdery perfume-y for me. Under a pear or other fruit scent, I think it would be quite nice!

Black no 1
Original description: This scent was inspired by Type O Negative's song, "Black No.1", with notes of crisp fall leaves, burning cedar, smoke and incense.
I wanted to capture the essence of burning leaves as well as autumn air, a faint whisp of clove cigarettes, freshly dyed hair and wolf skin boots. The scent opens up with deep Notes of leather, incense and smoke. Then, brightens slightly with spiced fruit in autumn air, intermingled with warm amber. Wrapped up on a base of burning cedar and musk. This is a deep, gender neutral scent, not for the faint of heart
Top- incense, cedar leaf
Middle- green leaves, smoke, pine, spiced fruit
Bottom- cedar, amber, musk, leather
My review: Ooh, you DEFINITELY get the spiced fruit. Where Memento Mori you get a late fall Slightly into Winter vibe, this scent is ALL winter vibes. Like you're drinking mulled berry wine and christmas shopping downtown, so there's a tinge of cold in the air and incense/fall scented candles are lit in the stores. This scent house REALLY likes its cinnamon note. Those spices are the strongest hit in this, first on my skin. Straight spiced mulled fruits
4/5 but only because the scent description notes of 'clove cigarettes, freshly dyed hair, and wolf skin boots' kinda gave me the vibe that it would be more a kickass chick wearing a leather jacket- kind of scent, but it's more a straightforward CHRISTMAS scent lol. Did not expect that vibe from the original scent description. If the leather and smoke and leaves and cedar were more prominent, maybe. I just REALLY want a good leather scent :/
______________________________________________
Stains of Scarlet
Original description: It brings to life the image of fresh picked strawberries from your yard, homemade preserves and strawberry shortcake on the top notes. With the tartness of the rhubarb cuts through the sweetness to balance it out and earthy, fresh turned dirt from your garden on the dry down.
Top- fresh strawberries, citrus, rhubarb, Italian bergamot, geranium leaves Middle- buttery shortbread, jasmine, rosewood Bottom- vanilla cake, white oak, light musk, dirt
My thoughts: I love this. 5/5. Love the scent combo of the strawberries and rhubarb. The rhubarb adds a tartness to the strawberries and the vanilla and shortbread notes help it to not be Too fruity/funky. It's really nicely balanced and by the end of the drydown (2.5ish hours (DO NOT RUB INTO SKIN LOL)) it was a super nostalgic strawberry scent. Like from the 'strawberries' you fed your baby doll lol. The ones that came with a little actual scent
_____________________________________________
I hope this review helps out someone looking for new samples to try!
Also, if anyone could recommend a really good leather scent...please hook a girl up? ;)
______________________________________________
UPDATE: About a week after I posted this, I found out you're not really supposed to rub the scent in lol. Let it air dry. Rubbing it in destroys the top notes and quickens the overall scent fade. Now that I've stopped rubbing them in, the scents go from lasting 30 or so minutes, to more like 2.5ish hours. Still not too long a scent life, but Way better!

Let’s see what is pulled out of the magic hat this week at Skiinywlker Ranch.
The Drag On reaction cam is in place and Da Bard bores us with the normal shitty GPS data and enhanced video of dust and it is not impressing Drag On.
T-Ravis’s kid brings a fancy homemade sensor. I can’t wait to see how it will not work. Ground penetrate radar the mesa to find there’s stuff in a mesa. Hippies spread government paranoia. Drill gets struck in underground. We have tunnels. Is this now Oak Island? They’re getting bored. Launch a stimulating rocket. They need samples and see a satellite. 2024.05.22 06:55 LeadGorilla1 Issue with attaching vacuum hose to router table dust port

Issue with attaching vacuum hose to router table dust port
I am building the router table fence described by Stumpy Nubs. I have a small issue. I have an Oneida Vacuum Hose that I want to connect to the dust port to hook up to my Vacuum Dust Deputy.
  1. I made a mistake and ended up making the dust port hole to be 2.75in. The hose fits OK, but I'm not sure how to secure it for a tight fit.
  2. I tired drilling a 2.25'' hole on 1/4'' plywood to potentially attach to the exiting dust port to reduce the size but then the hose doesn't really fit. Even though the product page says the OD is 2.25'' in the product spec, it is more like 2.31''. I have a 2.25'' hole saw but not sure how to get the 2.31''.
Here are some pics showing the issue Any idea how I can make this work with option 1. Thanks.

2024.05.22 03:03 JotaTaylor Looking for honest critiques to this prologue for as yet untitled WIP [high fantasy detective fiction, 650 words]

Hello, all! I've been working for a while on this worldbulding concept for both an RPG campaign and a short novel following the adventures of three halfling private eyes in a high fantasy setting, and would like some feedback on both the concept and grammar (english is not my first language, so all pointers to improve readability are greatly appreciated).
My main doubts at this point: does this seem an overall appealing prologue to you? Does this make you interested in this world, and does it expose enough context to comfortably transition to a character-driven narrative of their first case in this setting?
Thank you in advance!
Prologue
In the Old Manor at the high end of Cobblestone Slant Road, there lived three Halflings of the Deftnose clan. Bellewyn, Edwyn, and Oswyn were their names, and all and sundry regarded the siblings as the best private eyes in the history of Overmeer and the world at large, as they were the first to conceive of making an honorable profession out of snooping around other people's business, pitching their sharp intellects against the ploys of spies, crooks, scammers, and thieves –in exchange for a modest fee, of course.
The following stories sum up a mostly reliable account of their wondrous exploits, which would be greatly embellished and sung as legends for generations to come, inspiring many to follow in their footsteps. But before we delve into said deeds, it's paramount to recall what the world was like back then, when the vast and empty continent across the Fair Seas had just started being properly settled by the peoples of Amaranth.
Unlike the inland colonies that would follow (formal territories of the old kingdoms subordinate to their values and justice systems), Overmeer, the first settlement of the New West, was founded as an independent city state by freelance pioneers who braved the difficult task of kickstarting civilization from scratch. That first race to the new lands attracted bold and valiant entrepreneurs, but also all kinds of scoundrels.
Those pioneers included humans and elves, dwarves, halflings and gnomes, and even the widely villainized orcs and goblins, eager to leave behind a land ravaged by war and entangled in centuries-old, now senseless quarrels. This colorful assembly of cultures, however, made it difficult to find consensus on what should be the laws of Overmeer, resulting in an extensive, contradictory, and ever-changing tapestry of lax regulations filled with loopholes, enforced by a Militia whose understanding of justice greatly varied depending on the individual's roots and origin.
As such, shortly after 200 years from the start of immigration, Overmeer had already grown to rival the capitals of Amaranth in wealth and glory, but also far surpassed them in sheer volume and sophistication of corruption.
Nonetheless, Overmeer's permanent open ports policy made it one of the main trade hubs in the world, and its binding status of neutrality towards the old continent's nations promoted it into a natural seat for embassies of all banners, where the disputes of the Old East could be negotiated far from the heightened passions surrounding the epicenters of traditional power. All wars start and end in Overmeer, as the saying goes.
It's in this cauldron of worldly culture, bustling trade activity and dangerous political affairs that the Deftnose siblings seized the opportunity to establish their practice: taking advantage of the law that dictates that every profession is entitled to a representative guild and an office in the Old Manor, they created the career of private investigator seemingly as a clever means to get themselves free, luxury housing; pressed into proving this strange new business is not a scam in itself, however, they soon started taking cases and building their reputations.
At the time, Overmeer had a diverse population of half a million people, most of whom were workers who lived in the crammed Red Districts surrounding the harbor, so-called because of the hue of the redheart wood used for its construction and the dust that rises from its beaten dirt paths. Atop a hill sat the walled High Town, built of beautifully sculpted and vividly painted limestone, home to merchants, priests, scholars and ambassadors, the city warden, and their secretaries and deputies.
From their office windows on the third floor of the Old Manor, just beside the bronze gate that separates the rich from the poor, Bellewyn, Edwyn, and Oswyn had a privileged view of both sides of Overmeer, and went on to peek deep into the core of this exciting new world as they unraveled the now-famous mysteries of their tale.

2024.05.20 15:06 moondog151 Terrorista de Nova Iguaçu: In the span of three years four bombs would be set off, two at nightclubs, one at a movie theater and another at a supermarket resulting in 1 death and 18 injuries. According to a note left at one of the crime scenes, the bomber's motive was out of hatred for rock music.

(Nearly a month ago I made this post asking for case suggestions from my international readers since I focus on International cases and I recently was given one which I looked into and saw very few mentions of it online outside of Portuguese Wikipedia, digital newspaper archives and a single forum post. So I decided to take the case on. Oh and that Wikipedia article, about a good portion of it or so also talks about another bombing case that is likely unrelated.)
Credit to Royal_Catch7060 for telling me about this case.
And if any native Brazilians or even just Portuguese speakers in general are able to better navigate memoria.bn.gov.br than me and can find more information please let me know, For all I know this case may be solved after all and the information is just buried deep. Happened to me before.)
At 9:45 pm on August 12, 1985, over 2000 people were dancing or socializing at the Mesquita Tênis Club in Nova Iguaçu, located in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro State. The dancing was briefly interrupted by the sound of an explosion from the inside of the club near the stage, no panic broke out avoiding a stampede. There was, however, still a fatality. Elsewhere in the club was the body of a man, his arm had been torn off, his face heavily disfigured, part of his dental arch blasted a great distance away from his body and bits of his brain matter were blown up into and stuck to the ceiling. The blast also injured 15-year-old Claudete Oliveira da Silva, 19-year-old Cláudio Wilson Batista, and 17-year-old Luiz Antônio Oliveira da Silva.
The deceased was identified as a 23-year-old machinist and former goalkeeper named Otacílio Alexandrino Pinheiro, a regular at the club and well-known by the other attendees and staff. Tragically, when his brother was called and informed of the incident, he was in the hospital already as his father had suffered a severe heart attack. Otacílio was standing with a group of friends when the explosion went off, blinding one of them.
While Claudete was recovering in the hospital, she was questioned by police who told them that before the explosion, a man handed Otacílio a handheld radio described as sophisticated and of "foreign origin" and that he brought it to his ear and turned the dial to try and change the channel, the radio exploded once the dial was turned killing him instantly. She described the man who gave him the radio as a middle-aged, short, white male with a mustache, dressed in blue jeans and a checkered shirt and that Otacílio seemed to be friendly with him. Claudete also said that she saw other people witness this and try to chase after the man after the explosion but he managed to escape in the crowd. The bombing led to Otacílio's family protesting outside the club and blaming the lax security for his death as the guards were very selective in who they decided to check and screen.
Eventually, the police made an arrest, Nielsen Barros Louzada, a radio operator for The Civil Police and the son of a former deputy and owner of The Mesquita Football Club, Nielsen Louzada (his middle name isn't stated so they appear to have the same name). They later arrested another man, a painter named Edson dos Santos as Nielsen's accomplice. The police believed that the motive was a rivalry between the two clubs and even went so far as to accuse Otacílio being involved and that he was to place the bomb into the club's sound system but accidentally set it off prematurely. Nielsen's father also came to his defence accusing the police of being corrupt, trying to force him and Edson to confess and stating how none of the witnesses who supposedly got a clear look at the man identified him as Nielsen. He may not have been wrong to think so as the lead detective in this case was dismissed for corruption and gambling-related offenses.
On January 5, 1986, while Nielsen and Edson were on trial at The 4th Criminal Court of Nova Iguaçu, more than three thousand people were attending a concert by Tony Tornado at the Mesquita Football Club. At 10:20 p.m., a homemade bomb went off injuring 8 people including a child and triggering a stampede and panicked rush toward the exits. The injured consisted of Hernandes Freitas Soares, 25 years old, Marita Rodrugies Heriger, 17 years old, Adriana Xavier, Campos, 16 years old, Simone Machado Loureiro, 15 years old, Ana Claudia Costa Silva, 17 years old, Dejair Soares, 18 years old, Jorge Luis Csota Dias, 6 years old, and his uncle Didimo Rodrigues. Lastly during the stampede, 25-year-old João Luis dos Reis was trampled over resulting in minor injuries.
Five minutes after the explosion, three military police units on patrol in the area went past the club and saw that something was happening calling for backup and having the injured sent to two separate hospitals. Investigators faced massive pushback in their investigation as the club wanted to keep the show going at all costs ordering clubgoers to stop fleeing and continue dancing to the music. They unsuccessfully attempted to dispose of any evidence clearing away fragments of metal and cardboard as well as screws and a possible detonator believed to be from the explosive device. They even went so far as to try to deny police entry into the club. One of the injured, Hernandes Freitas Soares was an off-duty police officer. When he showed his ID, the two security guards attacked him and threw him out onto the sidewalk saying "The place to die is on the street."
The police believed that both bombings were linked but not because they were both committed by the same man. They proceeded with their club rivalry theory and that it could've been retaliation to the bombing of the Mesquita Tênis Club. Both victim and suspect denied this theory and stated that now the two of them were scared of future attacks and the owner Nielsen Louzada publically stated that the same man must've been responsible for both attacks. Nonetheless, the police remained steadfast in their theory so they did not re-examine the case and criminal proceedings continued against Nielsen and Edson
On October 5, 1986, at a movie theatre in Iguatemi Shopping Mall, 300 people were in the cinema watching "O Homem da Capa Preta". At 6:20 pm, a bomb placed under a seat in the fifth row on the right side suddenly went off injuring 17-year-old Alexandra Sabone Massa, 25-year-old Solange Vicente da Silva and 17-year-old Norma Sueli Ventura Santiago. Norma and Alexandra were severely injured as they had been pelted with shrapnel and even nails which had been packed into the device. They required surgery and even skin grafts. The theatre room was calmy evacuated while showings in the other cinemas continued uninterrupted.
The police arrived and recovered the fragments of the device and determined it to be low-powered and a timed device. Although the contents are unknown, there may have been a warning since the management was called from an unknown number. According to other theatregoers, the sound of the explosion was "muffled and muted" Property damage was surprisingly minimal as the seat directly above the bomb was mostly infact. Underneath the seat, investigators found a note written in "maritime signal code" which when translated, read as follows
"This is for you, club directors, to learn not to play only hot music. You also have to remember that slow songs exist. If my demands are not met, the games will continue until you change your mind. This is only the third game. They will continue until you meet my demands, and no security will stop me because I am capable of passing through walls without anyone seeing me. I just want equal time for slow music and not rock. NL"
The injured and witnesses could not give any descriptions and just like with the Mesquita Football Club, police were being met with silence as the manager would not show up to the theatre during investigations and were directly told by his employees that he was avoiding police and the press so he wouldn't have to make any statements. Some even causally dismissed the incident as a prank that had simply gotten people injured by mistake.
The media, however, upon hearing of the note ran with the story that a serial bomber was on the loose motivated purely by his personal music taste. And about that serial bomber "This is only the third game" Police went through other bombing cases and revisted the Mesquita Tênis Club and Mesquita Football Club bombings, both devices were similarly manufactured and used black powder and the initials Nielsen Louzada did match their one suspect, even if he was incarcerated at the time of the other two bombings and Nielsen said his name was planted by his father's politcal enemies. After the news broke, the owner of Mesquita Tênis Club and another club named "Lojas Americanas" came forward saying that in June 1986, they were both given notes written in signals as well. After translating them, the notes that gave the names Paulo Roberto Nunes and Washington Tavares Filho as the sender and the same address contained threats directed toward both clubs for playing rock music. The names were of course false but now there was a connection and Nielsen and Edson were both quietly released.
As a direct response to this bombing, Brazilian Police launched "Operation Macumba" to try and put an end to the sale and manufacture of "tula" and other types of gunpowder used in the bomb or at least severely limit it. On October 8, the police seized approximately 10 kilograms and 450 grams of gunpowder, packaged in 209 cartridges. On October 9th that number had jumped to over 1,021 cartridges with 40 grams of gunpowder each with 8 stores raided. Despite this crackdown, no leads to the identity of the bomber could be uncovered.
The fourth and final confirmed attack would occur on June 29, 1987, at 4:50 pm, the Casas Sendas supermarket was crowded with hundreds of customers when a bag left behind at the customer reception desk suddenly exploded. The explosion started a small fire and led to immense panic with many running, stampeding and others fainting with some thinking the entire building was on the verge of collapse. 20-year-old employee Marinaldo de Sousa Santos, who handled the packages was left with first, second, and third-degree burns and had to undergo several major surgeries. Marinaldo's co-worker, 17-year-old Osvaldo Luís Pereira and Marieta Moreira de Sousa were also injured. At the time of the explosion, few people were in the reception area which saved many lives.
Investigators at the scene collected two small batteries, pieces of wire, a talcum powder can lid, and other materials they believed that the person responsible was knowledgeable in explosives. The subsequent fire was deemed unintentional as discarded nearby to the explosion happened to be a plastic bottle containing flammable alcohol that the person dropping off the explosive package was likely unaware of. The decive again operated based on a timer, was homemade and the composition was highly similar to the last three attacks leading police to link this to the two clubs and the theatre bombing. Police arrested several people with explosive-related criminal records but none of these leads panned out.
Due to always striking in Nova Iguaçu, he was referred to as "Terrorista de Nova Iguaçu".
There was another bomber on the loose around the same time referred to as "The North Zone Maniac" who in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro set off 12 bombs from 1987-1988, mostly in the suburbs but also at a supermarket and a train station The police arrested Elourdes Mendes de Israel as a suspect in "The North Zone Maniac" case but the evidence against him was flimsy and he professed his innocence. Although some think that "Terrorista de Nova Iguaçu" and "The North Zone Maniac" are one and the same, the two have never been conclusively linked and both struck in different locations and had a different choice of targets. Due to the lacklustre evidence and a lack of any updates on Elourdes and his trial, it is presumed that "The North Zone Maniac" has also likely never been caught.

2024.05.19 21:09 From06033 DC Upgrade to CamVac 55L

DC Upgrade to CamVac 55L
Hi,
\* This is a personal endorsement. I have no relationship with Record Power.*
Over the past year or so, I have been struggling to improve the efficiency of the dust collector I use with my table saw and 6" jointer. I had been using the Delta 1-1/2 HP 50-760. Given the specifications for that unit, it should easily handle the dust/chip collection needs of my table saw or jointer. For whatever reason, the unit simply did not seem to be all that effective, even after upgrading to a Wynn pleated filter. The Delta DC was only a few feet away from the table saw or jointer, so it wasn't like the DC had to struggle with long runs. Even my smaller 1 HP Jet DC outperformed the Delta.
After some research, I decided to try the CamVac dust extractor, which uses a HPLV (High Pressure Low Volume) design. Most conventional DC systems run under a HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) design. The unit I purchased has two motors that can run independently or together and has a 55L capacity. The design of the unit is cyclonic. The unit is small enough to fit under most workbenches.
Once the CamVac was set up, I ran some tests and the difference was immediately apparent. With the Delta, I could only achieve around 27 CFM at the table saw's throat plate. With the CamVac, I am seeing around 95 CFM using a single motor and close to 200 CFM with both motors. More importantly to me, when using the Delta, I had zero dust collection off my SharkGuard. With the CamVac, the dust collection at the SharkGuard is visibly noticeable.
The test for me was trimming some MDF. With the Delta, any MDF cut, with (or without) the Shark Guard lowered, would leave a great deal of residual dust. MDF cuts with the CamVac running left almost no residual dust...just a few specs. I was very impressed. For the jointer, I only need one motor. For the table saw, one motor works fine for dust collection at the throat plate. If I want to use the SharkGuard, I need to run both.
The only interesting byproduct of the CamVac is that there are exhaust ports on the top of the unit (one for each motor). Most folks implement some type of "whisper box" or "muffler" to help dampen the sound. I implement mufflers for each motor's exhaust. These are 4" clear acrylic DC tubes, 36" long, lined with 1" thick "egg-crate" acoustic tiles. Sound readings from a 10' distance were: 79 db/85 db for single/dual motor. With the muffler, I recorded 65 db/77 db. For comparison, the Delta DC was 88 db.

The dual motor CamVac is probably enough for most hobbyist woodworkers. I feel that the three-motor unit will probably work well for shops where you want to implement more traditional fixed dust collection plumbing. My only advice is that you want to be mindful of dust collection capacity. Record Power offers a wall mounted unit that may be appropriate for larger shops (or where you create a volume of debris, such as wood-turning).
Some makers add a standalone cyclone, such as a Dust Deputy, as part of the CamVac's plumbing. If you have a larger capacity unit, I am not sure if the separate cyclone is needed.
One small drawback is that if you want to use a wireless remote power-up device with the CamVac, such as a "Long Ranger," you have to choose what motors will come on when the unit powers up remotely. Hopefully, CamVac will introduce a wireless power unit that lets you control what motors you want to light up remotely.
I decided not to include any direct links in this post, because I don't want this to look like an affiliate posting. It's not. Feel free to DM me, and I'll tell you where I purchased this and give you some research links.
I hope this helps!

2024.05.18 07:39 suyogah What are the best ways to clean and maintain brass items to keep them looking new?

Maintaining and cleaning brass items, including brass wall art and brass wall decor, is essential to keep them looking new and shiny. Here are some effective ways to do so:
Regular Dusting: Regularly dust your brass wall art and brass wall decor with a soft, dry cloth to prevent dirt and grime from accumulating. For intricate designs, use a soft-bristled brush to get into the crevices.
Gentle Cleaning Solutions: Prepare a mild cleaning solution by mixing a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water. Dampen a soft cloth with the solution and gently wipe the brass item. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth.
Natural Cleaning Methods: Lemon and Baking Soda: Cut a lemon in half and dip it in baking soda. Rub the lemon on the brass item, then rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly. Vinegar and Salt: Make a paste using equal parts vinegar, salt, and flour. Apply the paste to the brass item, let it sit for about 30 minutes, then rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly. Polishing: Use a brass polish or a homemade polish to maintain the shine of your brass items. Apply the polish with a soft cloth, following the product instructions, and buff to a shine.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals on your brass wall decor as they can damage the finish and cause discoloration.
Protective Coating: Apply a thin layer of clear lacquer or wax to your brass items to protect them from tarnishing and reduce the need for frequent polishing.
Storage: If you're not displaying your brass wall decor, store it in a dry, cool place. Wrap the items in a soft cloth or acid-free paper to prevent scratches and tarnish.
