2024.05.17 14:13 thelansis Chronic Plaque Psoriasis – Market Outlook, Epidemiology, Competitive Landscape, and Market Forecast Report – 2023 To 2033

Chronic Plaque Psoriasis – Market Outlook, Epidemiology, Competitive Landscape, and Market Forecast Report – 2023 To 2033
https://preview.redd.it/5w8h4w9x9z0d1.jpg?width=1275&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c3af95d531788b457796e36f694022c2bad2f1e
Chronic plaque psoriasis, also known as psoriasis vulgaris, represents a persistent inflammatory dermatological condition characterized by well-defined, erythematous, and scaly plaques predominantly affecting the body's and scalp's extensor surfaces. These lesions may intermittently elicit pruritus or a stinging sensation and can exhibit bleeding upon trauma. Dystrophic nail alterations, including nail pitting, are observed in over a third of individuals with chronic plaque psoriasis, while psoriatic arthropathy manifests in 1% to over 10% of cases. The disease course of chronic plaque psoriasis is marked by periods of exacerbation and remission, exhibiting substantial inter-individual variability in severity and progression. Additional subtypes of psoriasis include guttate, inverse, pustular, and erythrodermic presentations. While approximately one-third of individuals affected by psoriasis have a familial predisposition to the disease, external factors such as physical trauma, acute infections, and certain medications (e.g., lithium and beta-blockers) are implicated in triggering disease onset. Observational evidence suggests associations between psoriasis and stressful life events, cigarette smoking, and, to a lesser extent, alcohol consumption. Additionally, correlations have been reported between psoriasis and factors such as body mass index (BMI) and dietary patterns low in fruits and vegetables. Diagnosis of psoriasis relies primarily on the clinical presentation of cutaneous lesions. However, a biopsy may be warranted to differentiate psoriasis from similar-appearing conditions such as lichen simplex chronicus, nummular eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and tinea corporis. While chronic plaque psoriasis generally does not impact life expectancy, it can be complicated by various comorbidities, including malignancies, arthritis, and emotional distress stemming from its cosmetic repercussions. Concomitant psychological manifestations such as depression, anxiety, sexual dysfunction, low self-esteem, and suicidal ideation may co-occur with psoriasis, even in cases of milder disease severity. Topical therapies form the cornerstone of psoriasis management and encompass a range of agents, including steroids, vitamin D derivatives, retinoids, immunosuppressants, anthralin, coal tar ointment, and various other modalities.

2024.05.17 14:05 Ik76 2 Months itinerary ideas: Turkey>Kirguistan>Mongolia>China>Japan

Hello!
I'm organizing a 2-month trip to Asia, starting around this August 2024.
I'm still planning different things, but I wanted to post it and see if anyone could give me any advice, idea or suggestions.
-The first stop would be Istanbul (Turkey), where I would spend 3 or 4 days.
Quite interested in listening some traditional turkish music, and check the architecture of the city.
-Then, a flight to Kyrgyzstan, where I'm thinking of spening about two weeks.
Bishkek, Burana Tower, Karakol, Song Kul...
I'm a big fan of nature and hiking, and it seems like an ideal place to visit.
I would like to ride horses, hike, see some eagle hunting, staying in a yurt...
-Later, my idea is to travel to Mongolia from the Almaty airport, crossing from Bishkek to Kazakhstan (where I could perhaps spend 1 or 2 days).
In Mongolia, I would stay for about 10 days, approximately a week in a homestay and the rest, exploring UB and nearby places, if possible.
-Departure from Ulan Bator to Beijing.
This is still one of the least planned parts of the trip. I would like to do it by train, but I don't know its current status, and if the direct route is already enabled after the COVID issue. If not, I could do it by plane.
-15 days in China (using the new VISA free entry that we have this year for tourists with Spanish nationality).
I'm still not sure of the itinerary yet, but I think that I would end it in Shanghai, from where I would take another flight to Japan.
If anyone has any suggestions for the eastern part of China, it would be very welcome.
-Sepending around 10 days in Japan, in the Tokyo and/or nearby areas.
-Afterwards, a flight back to Europe.
In total, it would be about a 2-month trip.
It would be a solo backpacker-style trip, trying to keep it as budget as possible, and trying to get as close as possible to local life.
ESPECIALLY INTERESTED IN:
Regarding budget (very approximate) (and excluding flights), I estimate roughly this:
Turkey-> 40€/day
Kyrgyzstan-> 30€/day
Mongolia-> 45€/day
China-> 37€/day
Japan-> 37€/day
I still have a looooot to research and plan, but for now, this is the itinerary I have in mind.
Will update the information on anothter post once the trip is more developed. Also, I might write a blog or report about the trip and the experience, on my return.
Oh, also, I would like to hear advice about flights and transportation between countries, as this is my first time in that part of Asia.
Should I book all flights and transportation in advance?
Accommodation worries me less, but with flights, I'm not really sure about how is best to proceed.
Thank you for reading! 🙂

2024.05.17 13:49 Wrong-Shame1654 Moving to Korea in August ESL

Hey guys, I was wondering about some thoughts and would appreciate any advice on the following:
I was offered a position STARTING my first job in Korea for 2.8 million won a month plus provided housing or 400,000 won stipend if I choose a different housing aside from provided.
The job itself is has very reasonable working hours and all the benefits that I’d assume comes with most teaching jobs that come in Korea.
Most of the benefits included seem very reasonable and well, and I’m sure if I renewed the contract I could negotiate for a 3.2 mil salary next year.
However, I’d like to know a few things before I say yes to the offer:
Taxes: as an American what would be the tax on a salary like that?
Area: Yeongtong, seems like it’s sort of outskirts Seoul, which I don’t mind. But what’s housing like price wise that anybody who’s familiar with housing apps can tell me?
Salary: Is it reasonable? Should I wait an negotiate for more?
Future: I have a degree in business management, and 6 technical degrees, all in business. I speak four languages, and I currently work in Japan as a manager for a hotel (Let me mention that I had a Japanese stepmother , and I came to Japan to settle down.
I know both countries have infamous toxic work culture, but I would say at least Korea has more western influence and acceptance than Japan. At least that’s what many friends of mine who live over there tell me.
I’d like to avoid also going down the rabbit hole of personal opinions of work culture. I’m just providing a little backstory so people understand.
With the provided housing and the salary, I feel like I could save more money monthly there than I do now in Japan.
Currently even with a strict budget I can only manage to save about 30,000 yen a month.
(The housing is killer)
So I’d like to know how much you guys spend in food, gym (I’m a gym rat) and any extra tips would be much appreciated.

Chronic insomnia, characterized by difficulty falling, staying, and waking too early, persists for at least three months, leading to daytime consequences such as fatigue and attention deficits. Certain factors increase the likelihood of developing chronic insomnia, including difficulty coping with stress, habitual light sleeping, and various psychiatric and medical conditions. Childhood developmental issues, specific personality traits, and psychosocial stressors also contribute to its onset. Psychiatric disorders like depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder are often associated with chronic insomnia, as are medical conditions like restless legs syndrome, chronic pain, and GERD. Additionally, certain medications, including benzodiazepines and melatonin receptor agonists, are prescribed to manage insomnia, with cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) considered the gold standard treatment. Chronic insomnia is particularly prevalent among older individuals, females, those with low socioeconomic status, and those with medical comorbidities. Furthermore, it serves as a long-term risk factor for major depression.

I wanted to share some thoughts and data on how different healthcare systems, particularly the economic structures, impact psychiatric medication prescriptions. The United States, with its free-market healthcare system, tends to prescribe more psychiatric medications compared to countries with socialized healthcare systems. This discrepancy isn't just about medical need but is deeply intertwined with the economics and incentives inherent in the healthcare system.
In the U.S., the rate of psychiatric medication prescriptions is among the highest in the world. To give you some perspective, the U.S. prescribes antidepressants at a rate of about 110 doses per 1,000 people per day, which is significantly higher compared to other developed nations.
Key Factors Influencing High Prescription Rates in the U.S.:
  1. Economic Incentives:
    • Doctors in the U.S. often work in a competitive environment where seeing more patients can mean higher earnings. Quick solutions like medications are frequently preferred over more time-consuming therapies.
    • Pharmaceutical companies have a significant influence, with aggressive marketing strategies targeting both consumers and healthcare providers. This marketing can lead to higher demand and more prescriptions.
  2. Insurance and Legal Pressures:
    • Insurance companies often require a diagnosis for coverage, which can lead to over-diagnosis. For example, patients may be diagnosed with depression or anxiety to justify the prescription of medications, which are then covered by insurance.
    • Fear of legal repercussions can also drive over-diagnosis and over-prescription. Physicians might prescribe medications to avoid potential lawsuits related to under-treatment or misdiagnosis.
  3. Regulatory Environment:
    • The U.S. has a relatively lenient regulatory environment compared to countries with socialized healthcare. This allows for quicker approval of new medications, which can lead to higher prescription rates as these new drugs become available.
In contrast, countries with socialized healthcare systems, like the UK or Japan, have much lower prescription rates. For instance, the UK prescribes antidepressants at about 70 doses per 1,000 people per day, while Japan's rate is even lower at around 25 doses per 1,000 people per day.
Reasons for Lower Prescription Rates:
  1. Holistic and Preventative Care:
    • Socialized systems emphasize comprehensive care, including non-pharmacological treatments like therapy and community support. Doctors are usually salaried and are incentivized to focus on long-term patient outcomes rather than the number of prescriptions.
  2. Stricter Regulatory Controls:
    • There are stricter regulatory frameworks that ensure medications are thoroughly vetted for safety and cost-effectiveness before they are widely available. This can slow the introduction of new medications and promote the use of established, effective treatments.
  3. Cultural Attitudes:
    • Cultural stigmas and preferences also play a role. In many socialized healthcare systems, there is a stronger cultural preference for non-medication treatments and a higher threshold for prescribing psychiatric medications.
The opioid crisis in the U.S. serves as a stark example of how economic incentives and a free-market system can lead to overprescription. Driven by pharmaceutical companies' aggressive marketing and the financial incentives for healthcare providers, opioids were prescribed at unprecedented rates, leading to widespread addiction and significant public health challenges.
The way psychiatric medications are prescribed is heavily influenced by the economic structure of a country. In the U.S., the combination of economic incentives, insurance and legal pressures, and a lenient regulatory environment leads to higher prescription rates. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for addressing issues related to over-diagnosis and over-prescription, ensuring that patients receive the most appropriate and effective care.
What are your thoughts or experiences with psychiatric medication prescriptions in different healthcare systems? Have you noticed differences in how medications are prescribed based on where you live?

I'm planning to buy a sp404mk2 from Japan on eBay. The price is good, but I'm afraid of customs taxes because I'm outside Japan (I live in Mexico). I don't know if you have purchased from this site from Japan to another country. I want to know how much the taxes are approximately?

2024.05.17 12:51 elsuenobueno Where in the World Would You Buy a House/Condo Once You Settle?

I think it's pretty clear that once you settle with a woman, you'd want to buy a house. At least that's the common wisdom, at least in the US, UK, and other G7 type countries.
The thing is most of those countries have stupidly inflated real estate prices.
So actually a big bonus of being a Passport Bro is that not only do you get to find a woman abroad, but you also get to find opportunities to explore other real estate markets. The thing is, property laws are not so great in many countries outside of the US (government can just take it, foreigners not allowed to buy or only some very limited conditions, no mortgage options, etc.)
So my question it, where in the world would you invest money into real estate once you decide to build a family? I feel like Malaysia is alright in terms of price to quality ratio but definitely won't be a great investment by any stretch. Same for Thailand. Maybe Japan? Argentina might recover, but then again the institutions that are supposed to guarantee rights to land ownership are not as strong as that of the US.
Canada? Nah fuck that.
UK? Nah fuck that.
Braz .... well fuck no.
SO where the fuck is it worth to buy a house in the world?

2024.05.17 12:38 beginswithanx Alphabet song?

I don’t teach English in Japan (I teach something else, which is why I’m on this sub), but I do live here. My child attends regular Japanese yochien, and they have an English teacher visit once a week.
I got a chance to watch her class the other day. My child is a native English speaker, so I was curious what the class would be like for her. One thing that surprised me is that the “Alphabet Song” was different than I grew up with in America. Notably the “L, M, N, O…” part, which was sort of drawn out to coincide with a different part of the tune than I’m used to!
I’m curious, is there a pedagogical reason for this? Or perhaps the alphabet song is different in other English-speaking countries and I’m not familiar with that (again, I’m American)?

2024.05.17 12:01 AustralianSocDem A unique idea for Universal Basic Income: Universal Household Income Floor (UHIF).

PLEASE NOTE BEFORE READING:
I will say right off the bat that I am still very new to the concept myself. I did not invent the UHIF, and I would like to give all due credit to u/Plupsnup for coming up with this idea. Additionally, all calculations will be done in Australian Dollars (AUD)
To start, let's assume that a 100% Land Value Tax revenue would equal 49.5% of a country's GDP, in my case of Australia, this equals roughly 750b dollars a year.
The average household would pay, roughly 1/3rds of mean household income in Land Value Tax. In Australia's case, the average household makes $90,000 a year (AUD), and so LVT burden would generally be slightly higher than $30,000 a year.
The key is that 1/3rd of mean household income, just so happens to be the henderson poverty line for the average household (Of 2.5 people).
What this means is that if each household was given a UBI equal to that household's poverty line, and each household pays a 100% Land Value Tax, the median household (of 2.5 people) would see no difference. Households above the median would essentially have their wealth redistributed to households below the median, and all household LVT collected would be redistributed.
And, after all of that, Commercial, Agricultural, Vacant, and Resource rent tax (which together equals 1/3rd of all LVT revenue) would still provide sufficient revenue to run the government, fund a police, military, healthcare, ensure that the nation doesn't default on it's debt and still have a small amount of revenue left over to fund other random projects.
Granted, that other government services such as infrastructure, Public Transportation and Education can have their funding split via state governments and an endless stream of deficits due to the fact that these projects increase the value of their surrounding land and thus essentially pay for themselves in the long run.
In addition to the Land Value Tax, the federal government would also levy a carbon tax as-well as small tariffs solely for the purposes of National Security to fund other random spending, such as environment spending.
It's still a fairly radical concept so I want to see your thoughts on it. Are there any holes in the concept? If so, I'd wanna hear them in the comments.
Again, all credit goes to u/Plupsnup for inventing the idea to begin with.

2024.05.17 11:49 Kaizerguatarnatorz Chinese map of Asia in 1901

Chinese map of Asia in 1901
from 澄衷蒙學堂字課圖說 ,a textbook from a primary school in Shanghai, published in 1901.
The translation of this map isn't the best and I've regret some of the word choices that I felt aren't the best.
Description on the top of the pic:
"Asia used to be the name of Turkey, the Europeans came from Asia Minor. All the lands to its east are called Asia.
Named after the provinces, Asia is the largest among the five continents. Surrounded by sea on three sides. It borders Europe to the west. Bounded by the Ural Mountains, the Ural River, and the Caucasus Mountains. Its total area is about 17.5 million square miles.
There are five major countries: Great Qing, Japan, Korea, Siam and Persia, with Gorkha and Bhutan claiming to be independent..
There are four semi-independent countries: Annam, Afghanistan, Balochistan, and Arabia. Bukhara is a Russian territory exist in name only. Other territories like India, Burma, Siberia, and the various Turkic tribes of Central Asia are regarded as subordinate territories.
The total population of the province is about 746 million. Its civilization has been the foremost among the five continents since ancient times.
In recent centuries, Russia has dominated the north, the British has competed in the south and France has held onto Annam while Germany and Italy coveted at its sides, creating an atmosphere of contention."

2024.05.17 11:40 Hewholooksskyward Time, and Time Again - Chapter 3

First I Previous
Chapter 3
“... they’re called the Satura,” Vargas explained, while Mike ladled himself a second helping of the beef bourguignon. “It’s not what they call themselves,” he hastened to add, “it’s just the word ‘enemy’ in some ancient human tongue. At least, that’s what we’ve been told.”
“Told by who?” the sergeant asked.
“By those who reside further in the future,” Amélie informed him. “They have far more knowledge of the enemy than we do.”
He gave the Frenchwoman a confused look. “You must understand, Sergeant Delany, that time travel is extremely difficult,” Vargas continued. “It requires a great deal of energy, and much like your automobile, the farther you go, the more energy is required. Unlike your vehicle, however, it’s not a simple 1:1 ratio. Like the speed of light, it’s bound by the same parameters of the E=mc2 equation that Einstein first theorized.”
Mike just stared at him. Vargas sighed. “You do know who Einstein is, right?”
The paratrooper suddenly got defensive. “Of course I know who he is,” Delany sniffed. “German scientist. Something about atoms, I think?” he guessed.
The astronaut looked as if he were physically ill. “Patience, Anton,” Amélie counseled, patting his arm. “Remember how much I struggled with these concepts, at first.”
He nodded his head in agreement. “You’re right,” he grimaced. “My apologies, sergeant. It’s just that Einstein and his Theory of Relativity are famous in my time, and much of the population understands at least some of its ramifications. I occasionally forget that his work was heavily classified during your era, and for good reason.”
Mike’s brow furrowed. “What reason?” he asked.
The other two shared a look before Antonio picked up a small black device and pointed it at a nearby wall. “Do you recall me telling you that World War II… your war… ended a year after your death?” Mike nodded. “Well,” the astronaut continued, “... here’s how it happened.”
Delany’s eyes widened in shock as a massive explosion suddenly appeared on the wall, the detail of the display so realistic he almost hit the deck in response. A massive fireball rose over a ruined city, while a shockwave slammed into the nearby surroundings.
“Hiroshima, Japan,” Vargas said quietly. “August 6th, 1945. America had been working in secret for years to develop an atomic bomb, originally because Nazi scientists were working on the same thing. The thought of them getting hold of this technology first terrified people… with good reason, I might add… only Germany surrendered before a working prototype could be tested.”
He couldn’t take his eyes off the mushroom-shaped cloud. “Were the Japs working on a bomb too?” he asked them.
The astronaut winced at the ethnic slur, but let it pass. “No,” he answered, “that kind of technology was beyond their capabilities. The US used the bomb to force them to surrender, only the one they dropped on Hiroshima wasn’t enough.” He got a distant look in his eyes. “So they did it again, three days later, at Nagasaki. It too, was destroyed.” Blanking the wall screen, he turned back to face the soldier. “A month after that, the Japanese surrendered. Unconditionally. That’s what Einstein’s theory helped to create.”
Mike’s jaw set in a hard line. “Don’t count on me feeling sorry for them.”
Vargas held up his hand. “Two hours ago, you were fighting for your life. I don’t expect you to just suddenly forget all of that. But from my perspective, that war ended a century ago. Germany and Japan are now some of America’s staunchest allies.”
“In your time,” Amélie emphasized.
He took a moment to process all of that. “Well, I appreciate the history lesson. Good to know that we won the war. But what’s any of it got to do with these aliens we’re supposed to be fighting?”
“I was just getting to that,” Antonio replied. “The Theory of Relativity says, among other things, that the closer you get to the speed of light, like ninety percent on up, the energy required to accelerate increases exponentially. It’s why nothing can go faster than that, because it would require infinite energy. Which is impossible.”
Amélie leaned in, a wicked smile on her face. “Unless you cheat, as we do.”
“What she means is there are loopholes within the equations we can exploit,” Vargas clarified. “Moving an object in time, such as a human, requires energy. The further you travel, the more it costs, until eventually, you reach a point where you hit a wall. None of us can journey more than two or three centuries from our point of origin, because of the energy cost requirements. After that?” He shrugged. “You simply bounce off an invisible barrier.”
Mike thought about that for a minute. “Then how can you possibly know what’s happening in the far future?” he asked.
“Way stations,” the Frenchwoman supplied. “Picture a series of forts, strung along the frontier. While we cannot travel physically to the nearby garrisons, we can signal them. Information can be passed from one to another, up and down the line.”
“Much like the old Pony Express,” Vargas supplied. “It’s not a perfect system, unfortunately. Information can be lost, or garbled. But it’s what we have,” he shrugged.
“So… there’s a series of outposts stretching to the distant past and the far future? Sending signals back and forth, working together against a common enemy?” It was a lot to take in, but Mike felt like he was making sense of it.
“Well… you are half right,” Amélie admitted unhappily. “While there are many such way stations in our future, behind us?” She shook her head. “Que dalle. Nothing.”
Mike stared at her. “I don’t understand.”
“It’s the technology,” Antonio sighed. “It’s simply too complicated for someone born much earlier than the late twentieth century to grasp. Take me, for example,” he said, indicating himself. “I was a combat pilot in the Navy, before I became an astronaut, flying aircraft that would have easily defeated the entire Luftwaffe. I also hold advanced degrees in engineering and physics, but when I look at the schematics sent to us from up time?” He held up his hands in surrender. “I feel like a chimpanzee staring at a P-51.”
“Anton has tutored me for years, and there is still much I do not understand,” Amélie informed him.
“Even if we were talking about a certified genius, someone like Da Vinci, for example, for them to make sense of the information they’d need to recreate all of this?” He spread his arms wide, encompassing the structure surrounding them. “It would be like trying to decipher hieroglyphics. We’ve sent messages to the past, hoping that someone somehow managed the impossible, but we’ve never received a reply.” Vargas sighed in defeat. “Which means we are the last line of defense.”
“The three of us,” Mike said, deadpan. “What the hell are we supposed to do?”
“Our mission is threefold,” the astronaut explained. “First, to detect and counter any temporal incursions by the enemy. Second, to take the fight to the enemy, whenever and wherever possible. And finally, to retrieve those like us, individuals who have become untethered in time, and recruit them to the cause.”
Amélie reached out and took Mike’s hand. “The very future of all humanity is at stake,” she said softly, her dark eyes pleading with him. “You are a soldier, and we need you. Will you help us?”
He was silent for a long time. The others waited, having already made their case. Finally, he looked up at them both. “I can’t go back, can I?” he said quietly.
“No… you cannot,” the Frenchwoman agreed. “You no longer belong to that reality. We can make brief visits to accomplish our mission, but any more than a few days, the timeline will reject you, casting you into the void. Et pouf,” she pantomimed, spreading her fingers wide to suggest a magician making something vanish.
“But… wouldn’t you just return here?” he asked them.
“I’m afraid not,” Vargas disagreed. “Like I said, it requires the energy output of a Tachyon weapon to disconnect you from the timeline. We can create a temporary link that will keep you in place, like a climber’s safety harness. But it doesn’t last long, because the physics of our old timeline are already hard at work unraveling it. If you wait too long…” he shrugged.
“... you fall to your death,” Mike finished for him. The other man nodded somberly in agreement. He took a long draught of his wine, his mind spinning as he struggled to make sense of all he’d learned. In the end, he just shrugged.
“In that case, since I don’t have any choice… I volunteer,” he told them both, plastering on his best counterfeit smile as he held out the empty goblet.
“I could use a refill,” he said wryly.

Philippines to buy 5 Japan-made coast guard ships in $400 mn deal
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has agreed to buy five coast guard patrol ships from Japan in a deal worth more than $400 million, Manila said Friday, as the Southeast Asian country faces growing Chinese pressure in the South China Sea.
Japan will loan the Philippines 64.38 billion yen ($413 million) to buy the five 97-meter Multi-Role Response Vessels and pay for the "development of the required support facilities", the foreign ministry said in a statement.
"This will support the PCG in improving its capabilities for maritime operations particularly in addressing transnational crimes," the statement said, referring to the Philippine Coast Guard.
Tokyo is a top provider of overseas development assistance to the Philippines.
The Philippine Coast Guard currently has two 97-metre patrol vessels as part of a fleet seen as inadequate for patrolling waters around the vast archipelago nation.
In recent months, its vessels have been involved in several collisions with Chinese coast guard ships around disputed reefs in the South China Sea, which Beijing claims almost entirely.
Philippine Coast Guard boats have also been fired on with water cannons by the China Coast Guard, with the latest incident happening on April 30 near the China-controlled Scarborough Shoal.
The triangular chain of reefs and rocks that make up Scarborough Shoal lies 240 kilometres (150 miles) west of the Philippines' main island of Luzon and nearly 900 kilometres from Hainan, the nearest major Chinese land mass.
Japan invaded and occupied the Philippines during World War II, but the two countries have since grown closer due to trade and investment, and more recently, to counter China's assertiveness in the region.
As part of efforts to deepen their security cooperation, Manila and Tokyo are negotiating a defence pact that would allow the countries to deploy troops on each other's territory.
Leaders of Japan and the Philippines -- both longtime allies of the United States -- were in Washington last month for a trilateral summit with US President Joe Biden.
Tensions over the South China Sea, combined with saber rattling over China's claims to the self-governing island of Taiwan, have prompted Biden to boost alliances in the region.
Beijing claims most of the waterway, brushing off rival claims from other countries, including the Philippines, and an international ruling that its assertion has no legal basis.
