Some months ago I started a journey with a simple goal: To make $1 out of a web game. It has been quite a ride and a lot of lessons were learned. If you are interested in how the idea came up and how it all went on itch.io you can see the first post about it here
Coin Factory started as a web game made in SolidJS with a custom HTML renderer. This made it a bit hard to scale properly to mobile devices as the performance of this type of rendering is not as good.
The game is about placing and combining factories, where space and synergies are the key to maximize the production. Different tiles have different effects and there are plenty of combinations to try out.
My First Factory

The main pain point has been updating the game to support mobile and desktop layouts, as the Screen space is not enough to keep the UI simple and avoid the need of a lot of text to explain how every tile works.
The web version of the game has been played by 1M players so far and the reception and nice feedback messages has been amazing. But its development is facing a big blocker with the need of maintaining the mobile audience. This is where STEAM comes handy.
The main audience of Steam is Desktop users, which would also mean that the UI can get a bit more complex and more eye candy can be added to the game. On average the game was also being addressed to kids in portals like crazygames and poki.com but in steam the largest people group is of about 20-29 y/o which is perfect for this type of game

I believe that with the game in steam I'll have more time to focus on more complex features like adding more secret tiles or creating more complex custom maps. Most of the people that played were only focusing in the Standard/Sandbox map, which is ideal for first time players but there are also the daily maps and the custom hand-made maps that expose the same game with different and interesting flavors.

I was meant to go to an event today with a friend I haven’t seen in ages. Our last few plans had been cancelled due to them double-booking plans with other people and even though I was upset, I brushed it off, and they apologised and said that they didn’t want to piss off the other person they had plans with. I took a step back and decided to let them put the effort in to our friendship.
They called me this week and asked me if I wanted to go to this daytime event/festival today. I said yes, I was really excited tbh. They can’t stay out past late afternoon because they’re working early tmrw and also they were going for a few drinks the night before, but nothing big and even suggested we meet in the morning. I texted last night to confirm and still good, but pushed back meeting by an hour. I woke up to texts from late last night/this morning saying they basically felt rough and asking to push back again a couple of hours and meet mid afternoon.
I just feel like cancelling because I honestly feel pissed - the best bits of the event will be over by then, they’re going to be hungover, we won’t have as much time before they have to go, and if they’re tired/hungover they’ll likely leave earlier anyway and it’s annoying me because I know they absolutely 100% are not expecting me to be annoyed or cancel. I get that it’s easy to lose track of time when you’re having fun, and 9 times out of 10, I wouldn’t mind. A huge part of it is that they know I never get mad, and it hurts that they made decisions knowing it would impact the time/ability they had to be present when they’ve been so busy that I haven’t seen them in months, whereas the people they were out with last night are people they see regularly. They also know that I’ve been going through a really hard time, and this meant a lot to me, and there’s just a lot more history there that’s making this more hurtful.
What makes it worse is that some new friends (who have been so so lovely) invited me to the same event literally a few hours after I’d been asked, and I didn’t want to turn them down and they kind of know my friend through a mutual friend (met a few times on nights out) so I asked if they could come along/we all meet up, or I could join after they left, and they just haven’t responded at all and I’m a bit confused and not sure if I overstepped. I also didn’t want to just say no because I knew there was a good chance my friend would flake, and they seemed like healthier friends than my old friend group tbh so I wanted to put effort in buuuut I kind of feel like I fucked that up lol.
I’ve just been noticing it more and more since going through a really rough patch in my life and ig reaching my limit on being an afterthought - I’m constantly the one that people let down when given the choice between me and someone else, and I feel like it’s something I’ve created in my relationships by always choosing to let it go, or not wanting people to feel like they have to worry about me getting mad. Now I don’t really know how to change it, or whether the friendships I’ve formed will survive that.
I don’t know whether me cancelling is just punishing myself/an overreaction, or setting a boundary. I don’t want to disrespect myself by brushing off my feelings and still going to this thing with them just because I don’t want to go alone/want to catch up with them. I also genuinely know that they do love me a lot (we’ve known each other a long time), these things happen, and it’s maybe just not that deep, or I just need to think about it from a different perspective. I’ve not replied to their messages and we’re supposed to meet in a couple of hours. I just feel really lost.
Has anyone else experienced similar things, or maybe have any suggestions/advice, please? Ty in advance! xx

I am looking for advice on how to handle a situation with a friend. I want to apologize for raising my voice during a recent conversation, but I’m unsure how to go about it. The last time I apologized for being short due to stress, she said it was fine but later used it against me saying that no one has ever raised their voice to her and I was being condescending by raising my voice. Should I just move on and accept that the friendship might be over, or should I apologize? If I should apologize, how do I approach it? I feel conflicted because I worry she won’t understand my side and might hold onto how I responded for the future. I know raising my voice was wrong, so this isn't about whether I was right or wrong. I’m seeking advice on how to approach this difficult conversation or if it's even worth trying, given the circumstances.

I had previously declined a trip with work friends due to financial constraints. Friend A informed me about a closer location, and I still declined, explaining your financial situation. During drinks, Friend B asked if I would go, and I said maybe because it was in front of everyone and I felt embarrassed. The next morning, Friend A texted me telling me she already booked the hotel and it would cost $200 a person if they can get 6 people. No pressure though.
I explained my discomfort in discussing financial issues publicly and felt pressured. And that her text message felt like even more pressure after I had already told her no and the only reason I said maybe was because Friend B asked me in front of everyone. Friend A denied pressuring me and said that she was surprised I said maybe. And then said she didn't ask me to join and that they asked other people. We both exchanged messages, with me emphasizing the impact of her actions. I wanted her to understand that the way she handled this upset me and that she shouldn't have even brought it up again after I said no the first time. Finally after I realized that she just didn't understand my point of view, I asked if we could just let it go. And her response was “I’ll let this go for both our sakes. It’s very likely you misinterpreted the situation/my intentions but I want to let you know I did not appreciate being the target of your frustrations this morning."
All the time I was not rude, I had explained my feelings. She asked me to call her to talk and I wish I hadn't because her last message made me angry because she was upsetting me but turned it on me. My voice was raised when I called and she said that it's my fault I feel like this and her saying no pressure should have made me understand that. And then she brought up a disagreement from 2 weeks prior which I had apologized for and said that I hurt her feelings. She then started crying about the thing from two weeks before.
I finally just said that I didn't want to deal with this and I was going to move spots at work so I wasn't sitting by her.

Is it just me or are most, if not all, of the Apps you see when in the Brainstorm section of the Pi Browser just look really unprofessional, unpolished, & all around lazy? Most, for example, can't even be bothered to use a text-to-speech that doesn't sound like a total fob. Many of them don't even bother to have correct grammar or spelling for their descriptions or YouTube videos narrations. Would it kill them to have someone fluent in English double-check their work? I'm bilingual in English & Mandarin, and it's just so obvious when they do a direct translation of certain Chinese phrases and idioms. It's honestly just so cringe. How are these devs not embarrassed uploading what would be considered basic grade school errors? While there are some that do have a decent English translation, they end up ruining it by using a text-to-speech program with a thick-ass accent. Like come on bro, if you already got the text down, all you had to do was use a half decent (and free) text-to-speech program. Do these devs not consider how bad their YouTube vids sound in English? I get if the app is targeted toward a Chinese demographic, which if that's the case, why not just do the whole video narration in Chinese? Idk, I just feel like if you're going to do something, you ought to do it right. Everything just reeks of half-assedness. It makes me sad and doubtful of the overall future success of Pi in general... 😮💨

TLDR: ex friend trying to get back into my life after I stopped talking to him and I need advice on what to do
I’ll try not to make this super long. So I 29F had this friend who now I believe is. 30m. He used to be my best friend and we crossed that line in our friendship which shouldn’t have happened. We had a rocky friend relationship because he would only talk to me whenever he wasn’t in a relationship and would only want to hook up with me so I decided I wanted better than that and stop talking to him and blocked him. Fast forward my dad ended up dying close to two years ago and I unblocked him because he knew my dad and helped him out as well with rides. I had flown into town because I was living out of town at the time and decided to try to talk and patch things up with him. Anyways all he wanted to do was hook up with me even though I was like no but did it anyway get it over with. I blocked him on everything the following day because who hooks up with someone day after their parent dying. So fast forward to recently where I unlocked people on social media including him and he tried to follow me but my accounts are private and he messaged me saying how he missed me and wanted to take me out and he apologize but blamed it on being young and dumb which is a load of crap.

Hey everyone, so my ex broke up with me out of the blue over snap and I'm still trying to get over that, but there's another issue that's been really eating at me. Through the whole relationship he never mentioned any issues with the relationship and even admits he hid the truth from me and he blind sided me. The thing that's really eating at me is literally the last two weeks before he broke up with me he started to be a lot more sexual, telling me all the things he was going to do to me and wanted to do to me, saying how ready he was and good and sexy I make him feel, etc. And I had mentioned that I wanted to bring some lingerie over and would lay them all out and take a pic so he can decide. He replied "Aw I can't even get a peak? 🙈" meaning of me in it. Hello! I've read a few posts on this topic on here but I'm also curious to people's thoughts about my specific situation.
For a little context, my primary partner (I'll call them X) and I are in a long distance relationship and have been for 6 years. We have an 8 hour time difference so are only in communication for about half of our awake hours (my evenings, their mornings). A couple of years ago we began to explore being poly. This was motivated by the fact that X has more sex and intimacy needs and has much more physically open friendships and wanted to explore a more free and open way to engage with the people they interact with, all of which I'm fully on board with. I haven't explored other relationships myself, not for any reason other than I am a demisexual autistic and I haven't met anyone I would like to pursue anything with and I don't have the same needs for physical or emotional intimacy outside of my relationship with X (I have my close intimate friendships and I love my alone time). But as you can imagine, navigating imbalances around time and contact has been tricky. I have also struggled a little with the social expectations around X's relationships, as they say they aren't necessarily dating, or in partnership with their other relationships, but it's more that they have deep friendships with deep physical and sexual intimacy. (Unfortunately my brain needs structure, detail and specifics in order to feel comfortable in knowing how is appropriate to socially engage). For example we don't really have a term to describe their other relationships (I'll use meta here).
This brings me to the situation that when X is with their Meta's they would ideally like me to continue to engage in communication the same way we always do (specifically messaging throughout the day. We usually reserve cold calling each other at times we know the other is likely free) as they don't feel their communication is any different than when they are busy with general life stuff, hanging out with friends etc. However, my experience is that communication is significantly different when they are spending time with their Metas (which makes sense to me as they are wanting to spend time with that person and are focused on them during that time). The problem is if I am messaging them as usual and then getting distracted responses or no responses for much longer periods of time and outside of our usual routine I find it hyper-focuses my attention on this change of routine in an unhelpful way. I start to feel more "bothered" than I usually would from lack of responses. Which is an internal response I feel uncomfortable with personally, as it's not a response that aligns with my values or usual feelings around contact and expectations. I find I'm checking my phone more to see if they've responded or not and it becomes distracting. Or they'll message me if the social activity they are at isn't super engaging to them and if it is super engaging I get no contact. Now, I am addressing the personal insecurity or lack of security this actually might just be highlighting for me so I can process that. However, it still seems to be breeding this feeling of imbalance and lack of security. It seems to bring up this feeling of 'X is free to have their needs met with their Metas but my time is my time and they don't necessarily get to have my undivided attention during those times, or seek me out when they need something from me and otherwise I hear nohing' which doesn't feel good to me and feels like a toxic mindset. (This whole process has highlighted a deep rooted feeling of being "used" due to my past experiences with people, and that has definitely been an eye opener lol)
I was curious if anyone else experiences or has experienced something similar and how they navigated it? Because I am struggling with these thought patterns and struggling to find a constructive way to work through it.
Currently my feelings at the moment is that when X is spending time with Meta's they are spending time with those people and I have my own time to spend how I would like to. My partner is worried that this is leaning too much on avoidance and that it will create disconnect in our relationship (as maintaining connection is often a struggle with a LDR).

2024.06.01 12:02 Gloomy-Beginning-218 Wizard tries to murder another party member in their sleep, fails, apologizes, then creates a new character and then attempts the same thing again.
Context: This was one of my first online games as a DM. I ran a campaign with the typical "necromancy magic is seen as bad" trope due to massive events in the campaign world (that led to the first Lich being created and using the war between 3 nations to fuel his undead army, until all 3 nations realized the threat and banded together to defeat the army of the dead and supposedly destroyed the Lich). With that knowledge in mind, one player asked to create a school of necromancy wizard (tiefling). I said sure, but let them know that if they were to use necromancy within a village, town or captial city that it would draw attention to them and most likely result in their character being arrested, or even attacked. The player said they were fine with that, but asked if they could be Lawful Evil. Now, this should have been the first red flag for this player, but I said that I would allow it but only if their actions didn't directly target or effect the other player characters. They agreed.
Now to give some more context, the other players character's consisted of:
Onto the story: The party were in the Elven captial city when the wizard asks me as one of their "errands" that they want to visit the slums of the city. So they travel there and the wizard sees a bunch of dirty kids playing together. The wizard then walks over to a halfling girl, and begins to mesmerize her with prestidigitation effects. He asked about her quality of life (I thought he was going to give her some money or something like that), so she shares with him that she is an orphan and lives on the street. The wizard offers her food and says that if she comes with him, he will give her a better life and teach her how to use magic. Now at the time, I wasn't sure what his intentions were, so I was being very cautious in this moment, so I asked him to roll an insight check as she was looking at him with doubt in her mind. He succeeds and I share that she has doubts about his sincerity. I ask him to roll a persuasion check with a 20 DC and he makes it with a high roll. So, she agrees to go with him on the promise that he teaches her magic. When the wizard returned to the party, they were surprised and not very keen on having a young girl accompany them for their next adventure, but they allowed it after they made the wizard promise to keep her well out of harms way when danger arises.
The party arrive at the entrance to a long, and fairly dangerous dungeon crawl. In the first battle encounter, the wizard tells his "apprentice" to attack the nearest enemy instead of running away, like the party had agreed on. Now the "apprentice" isn't able to do much (as a lvl 1 wizard), and is subsequently attacked and falls unconcious and the party began to panic. The party were able to swiftly defeat the remaining enemies and heal the halfling girl. Now, when she came to, she was terrified and had a full on panic attack and wanted to leave after almost dying. The party agreed that she should not be with the party and should return to her home. This angered the wizard (and the player), who was not pleased when the party all voted to send her home. They were able to do so as another NPC was accompanying the party, and they escorted the girl back.
Now comes the kicker. The wizard player dm's me and says that he is not happy with what happened. I tell him that I had already spoken to him about the other player characters possibly not agreeing with his decision, and that the wizard was "okay with that". The wizard player doesn't reply. So I thought that the matter has been resolved. NOPE!!! Out of nowhere, the wizard states that during the night whilst on his "watch", he casts mold earth multiple times during the night and burries the oath of ancients paladin alive (as he was the voice of reason that was consistantly raising the fact that the halfling girl would not be safe). Now by this point in the session, the majority of the players as well as myself were quite frustrated with this player, as he had tried to meta before and say things like, "it would work in real life" when he attempted to turn events in his favor over and over again.
I told the group that we're going to take a 10 minute break before anything else happened. I spoke with the oath of ancients paladin player and asked him what his opinion is on the matter was and if what he thought I should do/should I even allow the wizard to attempt it? The oath of ancients player says that he was happy for me to let the wizard try as if they failed and the paladin would quickly "solve" the issue.
So I messaged the wizard player and confirmed that they're certain that they want to still try it. They agreed confidently and stated that mold earth was "a somatic only cantrip" and that the paladin "won't even know that I'm casting it until their suffocating under the ground".
I messaged the group and asked them to come back to the discord chat and we jumped back in. I asked the paladin to roll a perception check, setting the DC at 10, as I reasoned that the paladin would still feel the earth being molded over and around them. The paladin rolls a natural 20. So the paladin awakens, and sees that the wizard is trying to smother them. The paladin player attempts to intimidate with the wizard and convince them not to "test his patience", but the wizard player was furious and was trying to make up more excuses on how the perception roll should have been at disadvantage.
I stated that my ruling stood, and asked them what they want to do, to which the wizard left and never returned.
I had a long conversation with the wizard player after the session and explained that I did warn them in advance that the other player characters might not agree with their actions. The player seemed strangely calm and collected and asked if they could create another character to replace the tiefling wizard (this should have been the 3rd red flag). I agreed but specified this time that necromancer and evil alignment was off the table this time. The player agreed and then createed a high elf blade-singer wizard (and min maxed it as much as they could). They gave this new character a compelling backstory and I was pleased with it. So the next session, I introduced their character to the party (the party had left the dungeon to find safety and heal the halfling girl before sending her home), and the first thing the player does was declared that they moved to attack the oath of ancients paladin, as soon as they saw him.
Dumbfounded, I ask him why? He respond with, "the paladin threatened (name of the tiefling character) and I take threats deadly seriously".
IMPORTANT NOTE: This was not in the backstory that they provided me with! And I mean, not even the slightest hint, nor was it eluded to!
I pause the game and ask the wizard player to join me in a seperate chat, and asked them how could their new character possibly know who the paladin was and how they would know the tiefling, as the two characters had never met. He said that they would have passed each other and he would have shared it with this stranger. To which I said, yeah no that's not what you sent me and you're not just gonna change your backstory on the fly just so you can attempt to kill the paladin. He got incredibly angry and started yelling about me not letting him play his character how he wants to play them.
The conclusion: So to wrap up this long post. The player apologised to the group, asked for one more chance as he like the group. I asked the others individually what their thoughts on it were, they agreed to give him one more chance, so I did. And then 3 sessions later, that same player attempted to attack the ranger because he made a funny comment about the tielfing wizard (all in character). After that final straw, the player was subsquently removed from the campaign.
On a happier note: This campaign has been running for almost 5 years now and is beginning to come to a close as the players are level 19 (soon to be 20) and have accomplished incredible feats in the world.

I pause the game and ask the wizard player to join me in a seperate chat, and asked them how could their new character possibly know who the paladin was and how they would know the tiefling, as the two characters had never met. He said that they would have passed each other and he would have shared it with this stranger. To which I said, yeah no that's not what you sent me and you're not just gonna change your backstory on the fly just so you can attempt to kill the paladin. He got incredibly angry and started yelling about me not letting him play his character how he wants to play them.
The conclusion: So to wrap up this long post. The player apologised to the group, asked for one more chance as he like the group. I asked the others individually what their thoughts on it were, they agreed to give him one more chance, so I did. And then 3 sessions later, that same player attempted to attack the ranger because he made a funny comment about the tielfing wizard (all in character). After that final straw, the player was subsquently removed from the campaign.
On a happier note: This campaign has been running for almost 5 years now and is beginning to come to a close as the players are level 19 (soon to be 20) and have accomplished incredible feats in the world.

Let me explain this with a simple question: Is Fenrir frustrating to play against as a attacker because: A) I cannot destroy a closed Fnatt that I spotted, even though it is inactivated and is doing absolutly nothing to me. or B) I entered the area of effect of a Fnatt and the effect of the gadget caused me to lose a gun fight. I think the answer is quite clear. Now with this in mind, does the above changes from the patch note look like they actually do anything to reduce the frustraion that Fenrir causes? What's worse, the activation code refund will make Fenrir an even more skill-free operator if it actually got implemented. With the current mechanic of how his Fnatts work, you can turn on/off your mines according to how the enemy team is playing and adjust to get the most value out of them while protecting your mines from being destroyed. However, with the new mechanic, you can just keep you Fnatts always open without any consequence. Think about it, do you get any value if you close one Fnatt on purpoes? No, becuase they will get destroyed anyway since they are not bullet-proof. Secondly, do you lose anything keep as many Fnatts open as possible? No, because your activation code will always get refunded to you whenever your mines got destroyed. As a summary, 1. Fenrir's problem is the broken effect of the activated mine that blinds you, not because a closed mine is bullet proof. Making them not immune to bullets does not reduce the frustration they cause in any degree. 2. Making the mines' activation call be refunded when they got destroyed only takes away the interaction and playability between you and the gadget, and making it a no-brainer to always open them as much as possible. Lastly, here's what the changes they should've made to Fenrir. As I explained before, what we should be changing is what an opened Fnatt will do to an attacker. The changes should make he's mines less frustraing to play against while making sure they keep the original purpose of giving defender an advantage in gun fights with affected attackers. And surprisingly, we can actually achieve that without coding a new mechanic from the ground up by using a visual effect that already exsists in the game for a long time. As the picture shows, we can actually use the current visual effect of being inside Smoke's toxic gas, recolor it , and use it as Fnatt's effect. That way as an attacker, you'll get your vision obstructed but not as powerless prior to how his mines do yo you right now. IMO, just simply making this change to the Fnatts while keeping them bulletproof will make Fenrir both an intersting op to play, but not as frustraing to play against as an attacker. The way that the devs chose to change he's gadget is far from what we actually need and is a big miss opportunity. Effect of being inside Smoke's toxic gas with some recolor that could've and should've be Fenrir's nerf. |

The first “rule” I was exposed to was to wear them everyday for 6 months straight then soak in the bathtub with some detergent. And thus, the perfect opportunity arose. THE EXPERIMENT: I wanted a cheap pair of raws for me and my brother to simultaneously wear. I went with Gustin because they are cheap (relatively), and are cut similar to Levi’s so I already know comfort won’t hinder how much my brother would wear these. I made sure to order these from the same batch, so as to ensure there weren’t any initial indigo discrepancies. Once we got the jeans, I admittedly lied to my brother and told him to regularly wear and wash the jeans like he normally does and they’ll eventually end up like my other pair. As for my pair, I was going to follow the don’t let my jeans touch soap and water for 6 months rule, with one change compared to my last pair; I didn’t wear them everyday. My brother obviously didn’t wear the jeans every day, he usually had a 2 pair rotation and washed every week. I matched that rotation best I could to have similar wears at the end of the year. I originally intended to make a comparison post at 6 months, but I wasn’t really seeing a fade difference dramatic enough to be post worthy.
