'IF' Might Just Become the Breakout Original of the Year, 'The Strangers: Chapter 1' is Ready to Invade Theaters, and 'Back to Black' Knows It's Run is No Good - Ticket Sales Tracking (5/13-5/16)
Hi,
Last week, the monkeys truly conquered the cinemas as Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes not only had a stellar opening, but out-grossed expectations. For Mother's Day weekend, the reboot-sequel's actuals just squeezed past my $4.46M Thurs prediction and out-performed my $13.45M Fri estimate. Caesar would be proud as KotPotA's actuals surpassed my $19.41M Wed+Thurs+Fri guesstimate. Without any real stars and the concern over a follow-up to an acclaimed trilogy, this seems to be an absolute win for Disney/Fox. Against a $160M price-tag, we should not expect to see the end of the apes anytime soon.
For the first time this Summer, theaters are faced with their first three-way opener competing as many screens as possible. Thankfully, this new batch of titles is playing as the ultimate change of pace compared to the previous slew of action titles. Filling in the family-friendly, two month void, the struggling Paramount Pictures is gambling with John Krasinski on IF. No, this is not that terrible Blumhouse title from March. Instead, IF is playing towards the younger crowd, who have been starved for two months since Kung Fu Panda 4. Hopefully, the slew of stars and dry market will make up for the fact this is a truly original feature, which have tended to struggle on a grand scale in recent years. Since students are slowly rolling out of schools right now, we will be using Migration as a comp. In an attempt to make up from the light horror fare this year, The Strangers: Chapter 1 is coming to not only bring in an audience from a cult favorite, but to kickstart the release of an already filmed trilogy. As another early Summer horror outing, we will use Tarot as a comp. Last up, the music biopic is back on a much smaller scale with Back in Black. To follow suit, we will use Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody as a comp. I have recorded ticket sales for this Thursday and Friday for 3 Days. The green bars are how much ticket sales increased from day to day.

After a long two months, families are about to served again, and they're ready to feast. Due to its original nature, sales for Thursday seem to be more walk-up friendly. This bodes well for the already strong sales for Friday. At this rate, IF is looking to make up a $2.19M Thurs opening compared to Migration. As an early Summer release, IF is mostly playing like a standard young-skewing title during the normal school year, Thursday is not heavy, but Friday is looking pretty confident with $8.27M compared to Migration. That number is a bit more comforting. Even the theater capacities, where are decent, but not outstanding, signify a heavy lean towards Theater 2, which is very standard for family fare. In a market where originality is hard to open, Paramount should pat themselves on the back for not only bringing out this big of an audience, but for simply trusting Krasinski and team to make it.

In a year of underwhelming horror, TS:C1 is looking to buck that trend. With the small help of a built in fanbase, ticket sales not only started rather well, but have had a healthy consistent growth throughout the week. Currently, TS:C1 is on track for a $1.23M compared to Tarot. Definitely on the better side of horror than what we have seen this year. Friday is looking to continue the confident trend with $5.05M compared to Tarot. While Theater 1, a horror, walk-up friendly location, is sporting a healthy, but not spectacular theater capacity, the fact that the demand at Theater 2 a stronger number, it is possible the audience for TS:C1 might be bigger than originally expected. Still, compared to Tarot, TS:C1 is showing a lot more demand from the audiences. Even if it is not a breakout hit like the 2008 original, this is still a healthy outing to kick-off the new trilogy.
https://preview.redd.it/88jfwn17mw0d1.png?width=2348&format=png&auto=webp&s=3a63f964fac0b20a6c4c091a6267416be26fb5ef

Lastly, we are left with a reminder that not every real life story needs to be told. Despite a relatively healthy start to sales with encouraging growth throughout the week, BtB is falling right in line with its comps to a sad, low outing. At this rate, BtB may only reach a $.61M Thurs compared to WH:IWDWS. (Things to Note: There were Wednesday previews that will be accounted for later.) Not great. To make matters worse, the WOM is not fairly favorable. Friday is not looking much better with an estimated $.98M opening compared to WH:IWDWS. While the theater capacities are rather low, Theater 2 is clearly taking the lead as this type of film is that locations bread and butter. You can blame the poor marketing, lack of awareness, or simply, the Winehouse story isn't ready to be told right now. Either way, this is no Bob Marley. Amy deserves better.
Overall, this brings IF to a $10.76M Th+F opening. For The Strangers: Chapter 1, audiences are entering cinemas towards a Th+Fri $6.28M opening. Left on the cutting room floor, Back to Black is looking at a $1.84M Pre+Thurs+Fri opening. If these numbers hold, IF is facing a $31M OW. For an original title, this is an absolute win. If only Paramount didn't spend...$110M??? What the hell are you thinking?? No wonder you're on the verge of shuttering your gates. For The Strangers: Chapter 1, and estimated OW of $16M would be a borderline break-out, but is exceptional against its $8.5M price-tag. Even if the title collapses, they already filmed the complete trilogy for release this year, so you better get used to these faces. As part of the leftovers, Back to Black is looking at the single digits with a $4 OW. Just put this title out of its misery. Clearly, audiences don't have a lack of offerings this week as we march into not only the Summer season, but Memorial Day next weekend.
TLDR:
IF:
Thursday: $2.19M
Friday: $8.27M
Opening Day: $10.76M
The Strangers: Chapter 1:
Thursday: $1.23M
Friday: $5.05M
Opening Day: $6.28M - expect lower
Back to Black:
Previews: $.25M
Thursday: $.61M
Friday: $.98M
Opening Day: $1.84M

2024.05.17 02:20 Chasewatmatters07 [WTS] 8 knives for sale! CRK, Spyderco, Microtech, Hinderer, Grimsmo, Medford, Kershaw.

Hello! Got a bunch of great blades up for sale here. Prices are shipped, for PPFF, or you can add 3% for G&S. Con US preferred. I'll ship to Canada and Alaska but buyer pays additional shipping. No trades please. Yolo's on the post take priority over chats. Thanks for looking!
Timestamp
Large Inkosi Knife Art - Knife is in good condition, has seen light carry and use. Second owner at least. Factory edge, good shape and sharp. Centering and lockup is perfect. Comes with box and all the goodies. SV $500
Paysan - This bad boy is by far the smoothest Spyderco out there! It's mostly in good shape, it does have a couple of small scuffs on the scales (see video). Lockup is rock solid, centering is good. Factory edge and sharp. Second owner. Comes with soft case. SV $570
PM1 Sprint Run - Model #C81GPFG. These were only produced for part of 2008, the CPM D2 plain edge being the only variant of the foliage green sprint run. It's in great shape, especially for a 15 year old knife. Small amount of pocket clip wear. It's hard to tell, but the edge does not appear to be factory. It's decently sharp. Drop shut action. Centering is off to the right ever so slightly. Tiny amount of blade play. I'm sure both of those could be corrected easily, I've just never bothered since it has been exclusively a collectors piece for me. Second owner at least. I don't have the original box, I will ship it with a different Spyderco box. SV $280
Stitch - Stonewash blade. Knife is in good condition, tiny mark on scale by the clip as seen in the video. Second owner. Factory edge, good shape and sharp. Centering and lockup is perfect. Super snappy action. Comes with box. SV $280
XM-18 - Skinny Skinner 3.5 full Ti. Knife is in excellent condition. Clip maybe has a tiny amount of wear. Second owner, never carried by me. Factory edge, good shape and sharp. Centering and lockup is perfect. Action is smooth as butter. Knife only, no box. Ignore the ZT box, it was a brain fart. SV $480
Norseman - ( COA ) Honey comb pattern. #2321. DOB is May 17th, 2019. Knife is in excellent condition, basically looks brand new. Second owner, never carried by me. Factory edge, good shape and sharp. Centering and lockup is perfect. Action is smooth as butter. Comes with hard case, COA and goodies. SOLD $580
Medford Praetorian Genesis T - Good condition. Factory edge, sharp. Action is smooth, centering and lock up are great. Honestly I'm not very familiar with Medford knives, I priced this based on comparable knives listed here. Let me know if I missed the memo on something with this guy. Comes with hard case. SV $380
Cyclone - This is an interesting knife that has been in my collection for almost a decade. I have literally never carried it, but I am the second owner. Manufactured in 2006 and discontinued 2008. It has the selectable assisted opening feature. It works great and is pretty neat. Factory edge, relatively sharp. Nearly solid lockup, perfect centering. Action is snappy with the AO turned on and smooth with it switched off. Comes with the original box. These are pretty rare to find imo, I don't know how sought after they are. But I've seen them go for $200 on Ebay, so let's just do SV $80

The Black Keys (description in the post) Genre: blues rock, garage rock, indie rock, Lo-Fi
Let's get to know The Black Keys band a little bit.
I first heard this band when I was about 16 years old in the song Lo/Hi. The mix of garage rock and blues struck me and made me check out the other tracks of this band. That's how I fell in love. I listened non-stop to their albums and couldn't understand how such a simple rhythm and lightness made me shake my head. The band is incredibly driven. A little bit about the creation of the band and biography..
The Black Keys are an American rock duo formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001. The group consists of Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums). The duo began as an independent act, recording music in basements and self-producing their records, before they eventually emerged as one of the most popular garage rock artists during a second wave of the genre's revival in the 2000s. The band's raw blues rock sound draws heavily from Auerbach's blues influences, including Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside, Howlin' Wolf, and Robert Johnson.
Friends since childhood, Auerbach and Carney founded the group after dropping out of college. After signing with indie label Alive, they released their debut album, The Big Come Up (2002), which earned them a new deal with Fat Possum Records. Over the next decade, the Black Keys built an underground fanbase through extensive touring of small clubs, frequent album releases and music festival appearances, and broad licensing of their songs. Their third album, Rubber Factory (2004), received critical acclaim and boosted the band's profile, eventually leading to a record deal with major label Nonesuch Records in 2006. After self-producing and recording their first four records in makeshift studios, the duo completed Attack & Release (2008) in a professional studio and hired producer Danger Mouse, who subsequently became a frequent collaborator with the band.
The group's commercial breakthrough came in 2010 with Brothers, which along with its popular single "Tighten Up", won three Grammy Awards. Their 2011 follow-up El Camino received strong reviews and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart, leading to the first arena concert tour of the band's career, the El Camino Tour. The album and its hit single "Lonely Boy" won three Grammy Awards. In 2014, they released their eighth album, Turn Blue, their first number-one record in the US, Canada, and Australia. After completing the Turn Blue Tour in 2015, the duo took a hiatus for several years to work on side projects and produce other artists. They returned in 2019 with their ninth album, Let's Rock. They have since released three additional studio albums: Delta Kream (2021), consisting of hill country blues covers; Dropout Boogie (2022); and Ohio Players (2024).
Guitarist and vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney first met when they were eight or nine years old while living in the same neighborhood of Akron, Ohio a couple houses down from each other. Auerbach and Carney both come from musical backgrounds. Auerbach is the cousin of guitarist Robert Quine, a "veteran of New York's avant-rock scene." Carney is the nephew of saxophonist Ralph Carney, who performed on several Tom Waits albums. While attending Firestone High School, they became friends, though they were part of different crowds —Auerbach was captain of the high school soccer team, while Carney was a social outcast. Encouraged by their brothers, the duo began jamming together in 1996, as Auerbach was learning guitar at the time and Carney owned a four-track recorder and a drum set. After graduating, both briefly attended the University of Akron before dropping out.
According to an interview on NPR's Fresh Air, the group's name "the Black Keys" came from an acquaintance diagnosed with schizophrenia, Alfred McMoore. He would leave incoherent messages on their answering machines referring to their fathers as "black keys" such as "D flat" when he was upset with them.On March 20, 2002, the duo played their first live show at Cleveland's Beachland Ballroom and Tavern to an audience of approximately eight people. The band's debut album, The Big Come Up, was recorded entirely in Carney's basement on an 8-track tape recorder in lo-fi and was released in May 2002, three months after they signed to Alive. The album, a mix of eight original tracks and five cover songs, forged a raw blues rock sound for the group; the covers included tracks originally by blues musicians Muddy Waters, Junior Kimbrough, and R. L. Burnside. Two tracks, covers of the traditional blues standard "Leavin' Trunk" and the Beatles' song "She Said, She Said", were released as a single on Isota Records. The track "I'll Be Your Man" would later be used as the theme song for the HBO series Hung. In order to help fund a tour, Auerbach and Carney took jobs mowing lawns for a landlord. Despite modest sales for The Big Come Up, it gained a cult following and attracted attention from critics, eventually landing the group a record deal with Fat Possum Records.

2024.05.16 19:26 Haljia WTB 2 VIP or GA badges

Like most of us asking, I missed the sale. I was going to get some during my lunch break at work. That obviously was a bad call! (Sad haha)
This is the first year I can afford going, and I wanted to surprise my best friend with tickets and a trip. I've been a fan since 2008-09 ish, and got him into the Brando Sando Fando around 2011-12 ish.
Prefer the VIP badges, but I'll honestly take whatever I can get, I'd just prefer 2 of the same so we're not on different boats (bridges?!)
Thanks in advance, and worst comes to worst, this means more tickets available for next year! I'm trying to see the journey, not just the destination.

2024.05.16 16:53 n1247 Skoolie or van?

Hi,
I'm a first time buyer. Me and my wife are planning to live in a Skoolie (short bus or long bus) or a high roof extended van for 6 months of the year (in the summer). We can both work fully remote.
We would prefer to buy something that is ready built and make customisations as we go. We both have very little DIY/power tool experience so we would like to see how we get on making changes before committing to building something from scratch.
Our budget is 25-30k USD. We are not looking for "Instagram luxury". Just something that is comfortable, light and airy.
Main requirements:
We enjoy hiking in mountains so the vehicle has to be capable of driving up and down steep inclines. This has somewhat put me off buying a long bus with a lot of weight as I'm not sure if it would be suitable for these types of roads in the heat. I can only drive auto transmission. I'm a confident driver, however I have no experience driving larger vehicles. So a short bus or a van seems more realistic. I'm 6ft and my partner is 5.4ft.
Shortlist so far (within budget):
1992 International/Thomas bus - fully converted with 36,938 miles. Six cylinder International diesel/ Build looks amazing and it has so much space. Main concern is the weight and driving it on steep inclines. 31.5’ bumper to bumper 236” wheelbase 8’ wide 10’10” tall.
1991 Blue Bird bus - gorgeous bus. Looks pretty unique so might have re-sale value. Converted into a store so it has a nice open layout and furniture. Would leave me with little room in budget to add living requirements. Other concern is the 248k miles.
2002 Ford e450 skoolie - 7.3L powerstroke diesel. 185k miles on it. Fully converted to a high standard. Only problem is that it's designed for someone who is 5.9ft. So I won't be buying this one but I'm looking for other e450s as I've heard the 7.3L powerstroke diesel engine is reliable and the interior has enough space for what we want.
Alternatives: Dodge Sprinter 3500 (2008), Ford Transit 350 (2017), Ram ProMaster 3500 (2017-18)
Buses are more expensive to maintain and are less fuel efficient. The main benefit vs. a van is the space. If I can realistically drive on mountains roads then I'm all for getting a bus.
Any recommendations or feedback is much appreciated!

2024.05.16 15:25 UltimateTraders 5/16/2024 Daily Plays Almost up on BILL I did bid on PYPL YOU SOFI and PERI did not make a bid for AMC or GME still want to ride horses CVS CAR I will buyback PSEC or if it flies still have 5.90 wow OPRX was just 8 less than 2 weeks ago! Growth is real but speculative! So I have PRCH Any rate cuts?

Good morning everyone. So CPI is a 3.4. June of 2023, we had an amazing print of 3.0 Flat. I was pretty shocked and we had a good reason to rally… It did seem like we were ahead of schedule… Well we havent had a low print since! The end of 2023 many analysts were calling for between 6 and 8 rate cuts in 2024. I had been calling for 2… maybe 3… but the way things are going, we may get 0! Inflation is high still, GDP is running positive, unemployment is near 3.7-3.8%, earnings have been coming in good overall, near 5-6% earnings growth and 4-5% sales growth… the markets are at record highs…. This is not the data the Fed wants to cut rates… I do not see the Fed shocking the markets with another hike… but I see it is possible what they have been saying all along, while traders pushed false narratives..

RATES ARE GOING TO STAY HIGHER, FOR LONGER!

The Fed has said this for many months but the market refused to believe it… and to be honest, I had expected the economy to tank….
When rates are high the cost of the dollar is higher, when the cost of the dollar is higher, people cut back on spending…. When they cut back on spending, companies have lower sales…. Lower earnings… lay people off….. GDP goes flat to negative and 2 straight negative GDP is defined as a recession…. I am shocked… because my study of economics these facts are why I havent been full head on in the market. I am in about 70% cash.. I took some money out for real estate, doing serious renovations.. I also just closed on 2 properties last Friday… I met the Mayor of a small town last Friday and I am prepared to bid on a large piece of land from the town… If I get the land I will like to build a high rise building… Unfortunately for me, I had estimated that this building would be maybe 10 million…. But some architects have told me this will be higher than 20! I may have to liquidate at least 50-75% of my portfolio to build it [Long term accounts as well]… and once I get the plot of land I will know more… I have to send the architect to estimate and do blueprints once I have the land I want to build on. I am tired of renovations but every house I buy is 100-140 years old in those areas of CT. My passion is the market but the data doesn’t support me going all in…
In 2021, there were days I was in 90% stocks! It was crazy! As trader, having 50-60% stocks is good because you want that ammo in case of an emergency… I understand when you start and have a small portfolio that you do not have this liberty… So I understand..
Rome was not built in a day…. I started with 2,000 in 1994….
If data did support all these record highs and I wasn’t scared to trade I probably would hold off on the high rise building. The market is my passion… but I am diversified….
It would actually break my heart to sell these 3 positions:
GS 1,000 at 60 from 2008
JPM 1,000 at 30 from 2008
WMT 1,000 at 16 from 2008 [Split and now 3,000]
So I am trading carefully because of the data… and also I will find out in a few weeks if I can get the plot of land… it is about 1 acre.. I believe I can build a 30-40,000 SQ foot building with close to 100 units…

Some earnings since yesterday’s close:
UA 60 [Bad guidance though] LSPD 70 GAMB 75 GOOS 85 WMT 75
DDS 70 WMS 75 DE 70 [Bad Guidance] NICE 80 IQ 65 BIDU 80 [I don’t want Chinese ADRs!] ZTO 75 JD 80 [No Chinese for me] GRAB 60 GORV 50 CPA 75 BTBT 75
CSCO 80 RILY 55 CSCO 65

I made a bid for PYPL YOU SOFI and PERI… All I did was sell PSEC 5.50 that I got end of February at 5.65. If it goes higher I still have 5.90 block, if lower I can buy back. The 5.90 I got stuck in January. I have received months of dividends while I waited. I did not bid for AMC or GME puts… I was hoping they would go higher… Although I could have made some money… I guess I was disappointed because Tuesday morning AMC was 13+ and GME was 80+ . Even if they never see those prices again….. [Anything is possible but not likely] I was emotional upset that my orders did not fill for puts… They were small bets about 500 bucks… But for example.
GME Puts July 19th 60 Strike are now 35
I was buying 1 Put for total of 500….. would now be 3,500
AMC Puts July 19th 10 Strike are now near 6
I was buying 5 puts for about 550…..would now be near 4,000
Youd be mad too!
I don’t blame anyone for taking advantage of the volatility short or long… I wish everyone to make tons of money and to have the freedom they want!

5 Trade Ideas:
BILL – I had hoped to buy a 2nd block at 55, but I chickened out, I still have 500 at 60.50.
The slower growth does suck, but I can still see why it should be 75 or so… Lowered growth to about 20%, earnings near 2.50… I can see why it should have close to 30x PE.. 2.50x30 = 75

PYPL – After good earnings and a new 52 week high, wham.. I did bid 62 the other day and almost got in, I want to keep trading this ticker, I believe fair value is near 80, but yes, it is no longer a growing business at near 7-9% growth

CAR CVS – These 2 have been horses for me, well CVS I started trading block 2, less than 2 weeks ago. I have traded it 3x for about 5 dollars total. 500 share blocks. I have 1 block at 84 so I am down 29 dollars…. But if you subtract the 5 I’ve made recently, I am cutting the losses… I have traded CAR since Feb 14th, I started my trade with 12,375. [100 shares at 123.75] I have made near 10,000

PERI – I do have a block at 22, but I have been trading a 2nd block, they will start a buyback soon

YOU SOFI – these are just 2 others, there are about 10 stocks in total I am watching

Man OPRX a couple of weeks was 8… now 14.. The last 2 earnings were very good, that is why I am speculating on PRCH, 1,000 at 3.75

EDIT 2: Thank you all for those you read my Wall of Text (tm). I know it's a lot to go through, but these are my honest thoughts on why this season fell flat for a lot of us who love Tensura. Personally, these scenes are my favorite in the manga, but I saw room for improvement in the anime. I felt it would be an injustice to add to the whine pile if I didn't at least put in the genuine effort to point out exactly why it deserved the whine. To those who enjoyed these last 6 episodes, good for you. If you enjoy these meeting scenes. I have recommendations because I feel you would like them: 12 angry men, The Conspiracy, Margin Call (obviously), Up in the Air, Dr. Strangelove, Hunt for Red October, Oppenheimer, The Hateful 8.
EDIT TLDR: Since some of y’all are either allergic to reading or straight illiterate, let’s clarify. I love meeting scenes if they’re done well. I love Margin Call, and the entire film is a meeting. Tensura doesn’t do it well. Actually Tensura s2 does it pretty decently. I want the series I like to succeed. I point out areas to improve. I don’t get this acceptance of mediocrity, but I see some people are content to be just mid.
I think we can all agree that this season of Tensura has been extremely yap/meeting heavy and that is negatively impacting the enjoyment of the viewers. Even if you are a big world building fan, 5 episodes of meetings is not exactly what some would call peak entertainment. Now the next episode is where we'll start to get that sweet sweet action we've been craving, but half a season to reach some fights is a long stretch.
However, I argue that meetings don't have to be boring (I mean the ones at my work are, which is why I'm writing this up instead of doing anything productive). The picture I posted is from "Margin Call" which is a phenomenal film about the actions that would precipitate the financial crisis of 2008. It is 90% board room meetings, 99% yapping, and you get one "action" scene during the fire sale. You are on the edge of your seat the entirety of the movie. The tension, the energy, it's all palpable through the screen.
Tensura's meetings have a HUGE problem where the same information is told to the audience multiple times. The example that is most egregious is Archbishop Rayhiem's death. In one episode we are told in a meeting scene what that the plan is ABC because of XYZ, then we have another meeting where diablo gives an update and that builds up Rayhiem and ABC because XYZ, and then we see another meeting with Hinata and Rayhiem doing ABC because of XYZ, and then finally we have another meeting where we see the aftermath of how ABC went wrong because of XYZ. It's too much. As important as that event is for the story, we lost an entire episode's worth of content over that. It's the same problem with Hinata's story, with the Farmenas story, with the Granbell story.
Part of the problem is that the LN and as a result the anime tries to softball foreshadowing to it's audience because lets be honest, Tensura isn't exactly a cerebral experience. It tries to make the audience feel smart by telegraphing the story so that we can say, "I knew that was going to happen." It's fine in LN format where these meetings take a few minutes to chew through and read, but in an AV format, a 1-1 adaptation isn't going to work.
This leads to the second problem which is that everything is told not shown. Even in "Margin Call," the movie uses clever framing, camera shots, pacing, attention, direction to show what is happening. You can turn off the audio for the movie and still follow along. BUT the most important part of showing in "Margin Call" is the telling, the dialog. Kevin Spacey's character (obligatory fuck Kevin Spacey) is clearly not on the best terms with the CEO, Jeremy Irons, but he and the CEO are on a first name basis during the meeting while Irons calls everyone else Mr(s). Last Name. There is another scene where Kevin Spacey simply asks "Are you going to call him?" to Simon Baker's character, who replies "I already have." Who "him" is is not revealed until later, but the way the question is asked and answered reveals a strained history between the two characters without them having to explain to the audience what that history is. When Zachary Quinto's character is being questioned regarding his math for the disastrous forecast, there is a double play where the higher ups are trying to determine if the math is correct but also to shift blame and reward on who found what problem. There are layers.
The last big problem is that these meeting scenes are static and shot straight. There is no cinematic flair with how people are portrayed or how characters are framed. Meeting and yap scenes are when character drama can shine especially hard. In "Margin Call," the CEO is almost always framed with a clean background or against a floor to ceiling window with Manhattan's skyline in plain beautiful view. When we see the peons, they are framed tightly amongst other people or desks, making us feel cramped alongside them. When it's revealed time is of the essence, the movie opens a scene with the camera focusing on Baker's expensive watch, which he never uses, he asks someone for the time. The angle of the shot makes Baker's character less confined and more free as he is the protege of the CEO, despite being much younger than Spacey, who is framed more tightly.
Not all of the yap scenes in Tensura are bad though. Why the fuck do I care how many goblin riders, how many new Kurenai, how many blah blah blah are sent to fight. What's the important part of that scene? It's the promotion of Gobta as a capable military leader. It's the rebirth of the Oni race. It's about the growth and establishment Jura as a militarily capable nation. As clumsy as it is, the military planning of the upcoming fight *is* showing the world building. Hinata yapping with her two sects *is* showing the political tension and powder keg that is Luminism. Some of these meeting scenes *are* necessary.
But most of them are not. When these yap scenes devolve into talking *about* some other action that we could have just seen in person, It's hard to keep interest. How many times do we have to hear about this "mysterious trader" across 3 seasons before we meet the guy in another meeting scene. The dialog is clunky and holds zero subtext regarding anything. The meeting room framing is non existent. The closest we really get is the introductory shot of Gobwa (new bae) where the low shot off center frame helps bolster the image that she is a capable, confident, disciplined upcoming leader.
In truth the source material was never going to get us anywhere close to an actual cinematic story, but damn they could have at least tried to make things interesting instead of dialing it in.

2024.05.15 16:47 406highlander Thinking of getting a G30

Currently I have a 2008 BMW 525i M Sport (LCI, with the N53 engine, but not the CIC iDrive). It's a fine car, and I've had it since around 2016/2017 - but it's getting on a bit, the rear wheel arches are getting a bit rusty (all bubbled up), and I'm concerned that a big repair bill will be forthcoming - for what, I don't know yet, just I know my luck... I just had to change out parts of the cooling system due to age and wear, and while that wasn't expensive, it could have been catastrophic if the hose had burst and dumped all the coolant while I was on the motorway.
I've spotted a 2018 BMW 530e sedan (G30) for sale at just under £4k (I'm in the UK, it's a RHD car, nobody else wants to import them from the UK, so they don't hold their value), with around 50k miles on the clock. That's just about affordable, but I've never owned a hybrid, or any other kind of electric vehicle. I don't have a driveway or a garage at my house, so I'm limited to parking on the street, and I can't run a cable out from my house to charge it.
Given the restrictions of my property (i.e. I can't charge it at home), is it still worth getting a 530e only charging up via the 2.0 litre I4 turbo petrol engine? Any other things I need to be wary of with this hybrid drive system?
Any other caveats of the G30 that I need to worry about?
Am I likely to enjoy driving it as much as I do my E60 525i, or would I be better off trying to hunt down a non-hybrid example, or another model of BMW entirely? I love how practical, comfortable, and *fun* the E60 is, especially with the M Sport suspension.
EDIT: the FB Marketplace listing for the G30 530e was, as you all said, 100% a scam. I messaged the seller and they (eventually) replied saying this:
"Hello, is still for sale and the price is accurate. In order to reach for more info and pictures about it you have to contact at : transportsales@.com You need to include the sale price, and REG number and picture of the vehicle otherwise you will not receive a response back. Thank you!"
So yeah, 100% a scam, no way I'm pursuing that one any further; I only went that far to satisfy my own curiosity.
I'm still thinking about a G30, just not from THEM.

2024.05.15 15:58 Hanzoisbad Crocs Inc (CROX) DCF Analysis

Introduction:

CROX was introduced in the early 2000s, It was an instant hit with consumers despite CROX's unconventional designs. However, the company got too greedy and started introducing multiple products that diluted the core branding of CROX coupled with the financial crisis of 2008 led to the stagnation of CROX in the early 2010s. However, CROX had a huge boost in popularity during COVID-19, as people stayed home and prioritized comfort, purchasing a lot of athleisure products including Crocs. CROX learned from its past failures and capitalized on its resurgence through limited edition releases and collaboration with famous artists, this combined effort allowed CROX to reach nearly 4 billion in revenue in FY23.

Market:

According to the 2023 Q4 Earnings Conference, management sees strong growth potential for China, the UK, South Korea, and Australia. There are also a few large but challenging markets such as Japan and India.
In Korea, CROX’s products are popular, especially clogs due to the current fashion trend “Y2K”. Y2K is a fashion trend that celebrates the fashion trends of the early 2000s and that coincidentally happens to be the era where clogs were popular.
In Japan, CROX’s products are popular due to Japan’s strict culture around the removal of footwear in certain places e.g. Onsen, Restaurants, and Temples. This emphasis on the removal of footwear makes CROX the ideal product for Japanese consumers as CROX’s are easy to slip in and out.
India is a market with a large potential for CROX, this is due to the warm weather in India which leads consumers to prefer wearing sandals over covered shoes. However, the largest issue with CROX is that it is too expensive for the Indian consumer. A Clog costs about 3000 Rupees but the average median household income in India is 22,000 Rupees. This large price tag on CROX’s products limits the number of consumers who can afford CROX’s products.
Birkenstock is CROX’s closest competitor, creating shoes that are designed for comfort. However, Birkenstock is pivoting to becoming a luxury brand at a higher price point compared to CROX and is much less personalized to maintain its luxury look. Birkenstock is committed to maintaining its brand image as a luxury brand, even going so far as to leave Amazon. This brand image was further solidified as Birkenstock was acquired by LVMH in 2021. However, this is good for CROX as it has a significantly larger total addressable market compared to Birkenstock.

Revenue:

Shoes Sold
When forecasting the total number of Crocs sold, I assumed that CROX’s growth rate will grow at an elevated level for the next 5 years as CROX expands its presence into the new markets coupled with the rise of jibbitz, CROX's products that allow for personalization. The growth rate tapers back down.
When forecasting %DTC, Crocs is taking a leaf out of Nike and Adidas’ books by reducing their reliance on wholesalers (SOURCE). Even their closest competitor Birkenstock is pivoting towards DTC. I assumed that %DTC would grow to 60%.
Crocs Physical Revenue
When forecasting the number of company-operated Crocs stores, I assumed that the growth rate would pick up 3 years into my forecast as the interest rates environment improves which allows for CROX to expand its physical presence easily before the growth rate tapers back down.
When forecasting Revenue/Store, opting for less granularity I forecasted growth rate as a % of historic averages tapering towards the perpetual inflation rate.
Crocs Digital Revenue
When forecasting the %DTC Digital sales, opting for less granularity I assumed it remained constant as a % of historic averages.
When forecasting Price/Shoe, opting for less granularity I forecasted growth rate as a % of historic averages tapering towards the perpetual inflation rate.
Crocs Wholesale Revenue
When forecasting the price/shoe, I assumed that over time as CROX becomes more independent and less reliant on wholesalers they will be able to negotiate for more favorable terms from their wholesale partners. So I assumed that the price/shoe would grow at an elevated rate before tapering back down to the perpetual inflation rate.
HEYDUDE Revenue
When forecasting the total number of shoes sold, I assumed that the total number of shoes sold increased to a great extent in the earlier years of my forecast to reflect CROX breaking into newer markets. However, I believe that for HEYDUDE to successfully take off and become a multi-national brand it would take a long time and hence I did not reflect that in my valuation.
When forecasting the price/shoe, I assumed that the price did not grow at a fast rate in the earlier years as CROX has to appeal the HEYDUDE brand to more consumers through a lower price point. In the later years, as CROX gains pricing powers they can increase the price it charges per shoe.

Cost:

COGS and Others
When forecasting COGS and Others, opting for less granularity I forecasted it as a % of historical averages.
SG&A
When forecasting the total number of employees, I assumed that the number of employees per store remains constant with historical averages for CROX to maintain high-quality customer support in each store.
When forecasting cost per employee, I forecasted it as a % of historical averages before tapering wage growth rate at a rate in line with the perpetual inflation rate.

CapEX and D&A:

When forecasting CapEX and D&A, opting for less granularity I forecasted it as a % of historical averages.

WACC:

10Y T-Bond Yield (1M Avg) = 4.49% Beta (SOURCE) = 2.04 Stable Market ERP (SOURCE) = 4.60% COE = 13.87%
CROX’s bond is rated “BB” (SOURCE) COD (1M Avg) = 6.56% Marginal Tax Rate = 21.00% AT-COD = 5.18%
Stock Price (5D Avg) = $140.16 Shares O/S = 60.50M Market Value of Equity = 8479.68M Weighted Average Maturity of Debt = 6 Years FY23 Interest Expense = $161.35M Market Value of Debt = 2077.25M
%Debt = 19.68% %Equity = 80.32% %WACC = 12.16%

Conclusion:

Ultimately in my base case, I value CROX at $158.15 per share. I believe that CROX is undervalued by the market due to the market's wariness about the success of the HEYDUDE brand and whether CROX will be able to continue pushing higher growth rates now that the athleisure trend is over. I believe that CROX's brand will continue to improve in value given how management embraces the same scarcity strategy that elevated Adidas and Nike to legendary status. CROX is also pivoting into other core products beyond the clogs in a bid to serve the diverse needs of consumers.

2024.05.15 04:59 JobeX [WTS] Parker 45 - Navy Grey Fountain Pen SS Fine Nib + Pencil Set [B]

Parkers first real cartridge converter fountain pen, first introduced in 1960, the Parker 45 was the start of modern fountain pens. The popularity of this system made its way into all following Parker fountain pens such as the Parker 75 and even late Parker 61s and some Parker 51s.
The plastics on these pens are softer than the Parker 51 but allowed Parker to use injection molding to save money. The Parker 45 was made all the way up to 2008 and can be found in dozens of different colors and different designs (some more expensive than others).
The one for sale today is one in a traditional Navy Grey color and in great condition. There are no deep scratches in the plastic and the plastic has not been damaged to the point where the finish looks matte. It actually is pretty shiny. The nib on this pen is your reliable F SS nib unit, which is stiff and smooth (another kind of SS, ha). The pen will come with the vintage Parker squeeze converter.
No brassing or damage on the cap ring and no damage to the metal cap.
The pencil here might actually be the highlight. You don't see too many of these pencils out in the wild. I am not sure why but I guess the pencil and the ballpoints were never as popular as the fountain pens. In any case this pen comes with the matching pencil which works. The pencil is a twist pencil and take #9 lead. The pencil is also in great condition but I do see one small nick on the pencil itself that you can see with a loupe.
A set in this condition doesn't come along very often. Take a look for yourselves in this photo set!

2024.05.14 23:00 drunkentoubib Any rumor about a potential Toyota IQ-EV ?

I know the Iq was a failure in terms of sales (Mostly because it was poorly advertised in europe) but I wanted to know if anybody heard something about a potential IQ-EV ? The IQ is the best city car there is by a loong shot (had also a smart... can't compare, 2 different leagues). My 2008 IQ is starting to get old and the parts are expensive (few sales = rare model). I will have to buy a new car soon and I would hate to learn a few months later that an IQ-EV will be released. Anyone ?

2024.05.14 20:23 KimJongMahjong Help Evaluating a 2008 Z4 3.0i Purchase Opportunity

Hey everyone,
I’m a total car novice, so I wanted to reach out and get some opinions on a potential purchase. My neighbor is selling their 2008 BMW Z4 3.0i manual soft top convertible. I had been casually dreaming about getting an older model roadster type car for under $12k or so, and had been thinking of a miata, but then this car presented itself. Here are the details:
I would have a mechanic inspect it before purchasing, but I wanted to get this sub's thoughts on the pricing and any other considerations. I don't want to lowball them but is there a way to frame this to them that justifies a much lower offer? Is the fact that it hasn't been garage kept recently good justification?
I checked Kelley Blue Book, which suggested a price around $12k on the high end (I'm thinking that KBB might not even be relevant for these cars or this market, but not sure). Private sale prices seem varied, but $22.5k seems higher than all other comps. I believe they bought it a few years ago for $21k, so not sure if that was because it was peak covid used market price, or because of other factors.
Also I’ve heard BMW maintenance can be expensive. What else should I be aware of going into this?
Appreciate any advice you can offer!

After Volkswagen sent off Tiguan in the year 2008, there was a mix in fragment of reduced delicate roaders. Alongside heaps of contest (for the most part from Korea and South Korea), Tiguan got the work removed, especially as it wasn't anyplace near large, including the X-Trail of Nissan or high-selling Forester from Subaru.
While looking for Tiguan, you ought to pay a great deal for a used car which has very little choices. The European makers are very really great for conjuring the arrangements of choices and VW isn't any unique. A portion of the Tiguans are prepared well than the others.

''DSG'' Speedy reasoning double grip auto gear box is known to have a few issues, with few used cars requiring new transmissions. 2024.05.14 06:08 aksu9000 How to approach a possible an hourly raise?

Background:
  1. Mech Engi, but engi department is so short staffed that we do Manufacturing Process Engineering, QA/QC, R&D, RMA, machine support/shop fixes, & Project Engineer positions.
  2. Company's starting hourly wage is not competitive @ 25/hr. Thus, high turn over rate.
  3. I have been working for a year, and company is already 2 months late on a company wide raise for all.
  4. I know historically, the first year, new grads like me get a 5/hr bump.
  5. However, I am being laterally (while under same title) moved to a different position that gets commission (1% of custom projects with a cap of 100k, per company policy).
  6. I KNOW for a fact that this company will say something along the lines that "since there is now commission, that is considered your 'raise' ".
  7. I also know that on Indeed, the newest offers for this Manufacturing Engineer 1 position is 28-32/hr.
Essentially, if they do even bump me to 28/hr without moving me, I am NOT getting a raise if new hires get 28/hr. Therefore, my bump needs to exceed 28/hr.
So the question is, am I asking too much? As in, ask for at least 28/hr + commission? I also understand that typical commission based salary is usually lower, but that doesn't reflect the fact that I have already been there 1 year expecting the +5/hr bump.

Some extras:
  1. I have access to an excel spreadsheet that shows turn over rates of all engineers. Somewhere around 2008-2010, the company mentality changed from having career engineers staying at company for 5-20 years to newer grads like me that bounce 6mo-1.5 yr.
  2. Company mentality would rather let someone go at X/hr then hire someone at X+Y/hr.
  3. I have MSME.
  4. Location Fullerton.
Edit 1:
  1. I also know how much this company up-charges b/c engineering department. I know they can afford the raise.
Edit 2:
  1. Company prioritizes hiring more sales and marketing over engineering because they can fill open vacancies within 1-2 weeks where engineering takes months.
    1. 9 engineers (4 normal, 2 supervisor, 2 shop, 1 manager).
    2. 2 dedicated R&D engineers.
    3. 1 dedicated electrical engineer.
    4. 16 sales (10 normal, 4 wfh, 1 supervisor, 1 manager).
    5. 10 marketing (8 normal, 1 general manager, 1 manager)
Edit 3:
  1. Marketing can push new products and other photoshopped ideas to engineering before testing and tell us it has been sold, so engineering needs to think of a way to make it reality.
  2. Sales can also sell some custom products which marketing likes and that becomes new products (with no testing).
  3. Prototypes & ecr's being all bundled into a custom product to be already sold to client then labeled as 1 work order.
  4. Company also does not use PDM. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

We are trying to sort records in the table by EID in a specific order, which is [9,7,5,3, descending order for the rest]. The first four records corresponding to 9,7,5,3 will be passed in as parameters. Below is the desired result:
EID NAME SURNAME GENDER STATE BIRTHDAY HIREDATE DEPT
9 Victoria Davis F Texas 1983-12-07 2009-12-07 HR
7 Alexis Smith F Illinois 1972-08-16 2002-08-16 Sales

Solution

We write the following script p1.dfx in esProc:
A
1 =connect("demo")
2 =A1.query@x("SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEE").sort(EID).align@as(eid.split@pc(),EID)
Explanation:
Set a script parameter eid, whose value is 9,7,5,3.
A1 Connect to the database named demo.
A2 Return query result as a table sequence and auto-close database connection when the query is finished. Sort the table sequence fist by EID then by the comma-separated sequence of numbers defined through parameter eid. Put the non-matching members at the end during the second sort.
Refer to How to Call an SPL Script in BIRT to learn about the method of integrating the SPL script with BIRT.
