2024.05.11 19:45 Illustrious-Bath-266 How will moving as a remote worker impact my tax situation?

I work remotely in NY for a company headquartered in GA. I plan to move to FL later this year. Will NY's convience of the employer rule or another rule mean I still have to pay NY state income tax going forward? The company is headquarted in Georgia and I'd be moving to Florida on my own, not assigned to a Florida office (still would work out of the Georgia office). I'm scared that NY would still try to come after me for their high taxes. Thanks.

2024.05.11 19:44 makemenuconfig Remove advisors from NDA?

I'm starting a single-member LLC to perform software contracting work. I had an NDA (which was presented to me by a client) reviewed by a business law attorney. He redlined the document, and suggested removing 3rd parties who advise me.
But as I read through it again, I struggle to understand why. This clause doesn't seem to say I can't share information with these people, just that they will also uphold the confidentiality.
I don't really have time to ask him, as I need to send this back to the client this weekend. What am I missing, can you help me understand why it is good to remove these third parties from this clause?
The undersigned, and each of them, hereby agrees, acknowledges and covenants for the undersigned and on behalf of the heirs, spouse, principal, agents, employees, officers, directors, shareholders, parent company(ies), subsidiaries, affiliates, members, managers, partners, legal representatives, accountants, transferees, bankers, lenders, financiers, guardians, receivers, trustees and assigns thereof [collectively “Disclosee”, without regard to number or form] as follows: ....

2024.05.11 19:43 Matchboxx Review - Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles (LAX)

TL;DR: Clean rooms with good service and recognition of Elite status. Disappointing lounge and smelly common areas. Overall, acceptable value for LA at $140/night.
I stayed 3 nights at the Sheraton near LAX while visiting a friend in Marina del Rey and not wanting to fork over extra to stay in DTLA (I worked from my company's LA office, across the street from his, but I was on my own dime as I wasn't on official business. Side perk is that our carpooling entitled us to use of the 105 HOT lanes). I held my reservation with the AAA cancelable rate at $160/night until the last minute, then replaced it with the AAA prepaid rate at $140/night. Both prices include tax. Overall, this was a decent value for LA, especially given the proximity to MdR.
I asked about upgrades at check-in and without any pushback, they upgraded me to an Executive Suite, which I would characterize more as a junior suite; it had a small sitting room with a partial wall divider (no door) to separate the sleeping area; the room was maybe 500-600 sqft with a normal sized bathroom - shower only, no tub. This was more than I was expecting for my price paid, so I was still pleased with it, especially since I was staying for 3 nights and I figure 99% of guests are one night stands. I was also granted a late checkout to 4pm without any issue. Shuttle service to LAX was prompt when it was time for me to go.
As for the downsides - the common areas on each floor, including the lounge floor, all had weird smells. Mine smelled like microwaved fish for my entire stay, and the lounge floor smelled like chlorine. Fortunately, neither of these smells permeated the rooms once you were inside. The lounge was rather disappointing - characterized at check-in as "having 24-hour drinks and snacks." Outside of breakfast hours, everything is locked up except for a mini fridge of bottled water and a coffee maker. No snacks, no soda. The breakfast was probably typical but not my jam - runny powdered eggs, bacon, oatmeal, cereal that only old people eat. Free is free, and as much as I like Eggslut, I wasn't about to pay $40 in roundtrip Ubers for it.
All in all, I'm glad I did this instead of the Four Points - I was trying to conserve money since I was self-paying, but the Four Points has 2 stars even on Marriott's website, so I didn't want to debase myself too much. If I was self paid again, I'd stay here again. If business daddy is paying, I'll probably stay at the Renaissance or closer to town.

2024.05.11 19:43 Ag_Tal How would genetic diversity be maintained in a dystopian caste-based society?

Here's the case:
There's a planet that was colonised and terraformed by humans in the far past. Most of the land was forested by a biotech company to test engineered flora and fauna. Something happened and the planet was cut-off from the Interstellar society, and forgotten.
Fastforward some hundreds or thousands, no-one really knows the exact number, of years. The forests have undergone accelerated speciation due to malfunctioning company assets. The planet is filled with towering trees and megafauna. The human population has dropped below 100k and live in fortified compounds with quasi-medieval societies. Well, there are tribal societies too that live in wilderness but because of that, they've also evolved into somewhat posthuman species.
Anyways, humans and the quasi-medieval societies. The focus of this post. This societal structure is pretty much the norm for all human settlements on the surface, with a few variations here and there. The core is the same. There are three castes, or as it's refered in setting, 'orders of birth':
  1. Clay: This is the lowest caste. It includes menial workers, farmers, foragers, lumberjacks, and labourers. Basically serfs.
  2. Stone: This is the middle caste. It includes specialists like masons, electricians, machinists, etc. and security, like household guards and watchmen.
  3. Iron: This is the ruling caste. It is composed of scientists, who are descendants of the bioengineers and ecologists, and hunters. The hunters ensure that their settlement is safe from predatory megafauna while scientists secure the health of crops and livestock.
These castes generally don't tend to intermingle, which is kinda why they're castes and not classes. But the problem is that the population of a settlement, with a couple of exceptions, is in the range of 600 to 2000. And the Iron caste, unlike historical aristocracy, knows the problem with inbreeding.
So, how would they deal with it?

2024.05.11 19:42 andrewthamcc Company pushing Sentricon and only Sentricon. HELP!

Help! Looking for any and all advice. I live in Toronto, Canada in an area that has a problem with Eastern subterranean termites. My house is a semi and approximate dimensions of the building are 20ft x 60ft.
We had an issue in our finished basement in November 2023 and the popular local company came and did a treatment with Altriset. During this they started to talk about the wonders of Sentricon and how it will eliminate everything. It wasn't agreed on about cost or install.
I've discovered termites again in an adjacent room to what was treated. Called the same company and they want us to install Sentricon. Quoted $2800 CAD install and then $700 CAD annual fee.
My attached neighbour (who has had worse problems than us) does not want to use Sentricon. I also have concrete slab or pavers along the entire perimeter of the house. They'd have to drill in every 10 feet for the stations.
I inquired about doing another treatment of Altriset and was told:
HELP!

2024.05.11 19:41 HomesteadAFB So much for customer support.

We just closed on a brand new Maronda home in Florida. The first 2 weeks have been horrible. The house has a few punch items but the worst is the complete lack of customer support. The building supervisor that works for the builder has yet to get back in touch with us. They have a portal to submit requests and it tells you that they will be in contact with in 24-48 hours. Nope that didn’t happen so I emailed customer support. The response said that I would hear from him Thursday. That didn’t happen so I emailed again and they said that I would hear from him by end of Friday, they also told me to use the portal another sick customer service move. So no contact from him in 2 weeks, customer service is nonexistent. What else can we do to get a new representative and some response? BBB is the only place that I’ve seen the company actually respond and act like they should. Don’t use them to build your home.

2024.05.11 19:41 Sea_Dragonfruit1365 [WA] [SFH]

Back in December I sold my single family home property that is in an HOA. I have never had issues with the HOA before, until selling. We notified the HOA that we were selling the property and after it was sold we notified them that it sold.
Once I moved I started getting my mail from my previous home forwarded to my new home. In February I received a bill for HOA dues. I called the company, spoke to someone on the phone who apologized and said they would get it taken care of. Thought it was over with. Except it wasn’t because I continued to received bills with more and more late fees. Each bill I received I would attempt to contact. They wouldn’t answer during normal business hours, so I would leave a voicemail. I would never hear back, but still received late notices for the bills. They are sending it to my old address, but because it still has my name on it, it keeps getting forwarded to me. I have emailed, called, left voicemails but have not been able to get a hold of a single person again. And I still continue to receive bills. Today I received a “final notice” stating they will send me to collections. I can’t call again because it’s Saturday, but now they have removed the ability to leave a voicemail even. I’m afraid even on Monday they still won’t answer, as they had been the trend.
I no longer have the ability to log on to the portal to try and see if I can modify something online myself. They quickly took that access away from me. They just don’t seem to care about resolving this and actually getting their money. I am also not going to pay back pay, and continue to pay monthly dues on a property I have not owned for several months. I also don’t understand how the new owners could be getting away with just not paying HOA dues. They knew about the dues when they bought the property, so wouldn’t they be thinking it’s weird they haven’t received a bill yet? It is not back dues from when I owned the property as I was up to date and all the dues on the bills I am reviewing are from January and onward.
Does anyone have any idea of what am I to do in this situation?

2024.05.11 19:41 JiafeiLiveSeller My department suffers incompetent leadership from a team member that the big bosses allowed to take over when our manager left.

For context: for months now, I’m (30+) in a department with Former Manager (37), Current Team Lead (22M, important detail), and Close Coworker (30+). The ages are important because this will reflect on CTL’s behavior.
After 2 years of working there, FM left the company for personal reasons unrelated to work. For a while, Big Bosses tried to look for FM’s replacement, but they weren’t satisfied with the applicants.
As FM left, CTL, a young ambitious team member who has a lot of energy and enthusiasm for this company after his first “traditional old-school corporate” job (which he got via nepotism, btw), self-imposed himself as the team leader even though there was no official announcement or onboarding of him. CC and I just accepted this as the working situation for a while. CTL even proudly said that “BB will promote me to manager” even though CTL was an inexperienced fresh graduate whose degree had no relevance to the department he was supposed to be managing.
But eventually it got to us as CTL was showing signs of the following: * very poor time management. Always asking to reschedule meetings at the last minute, asking external stakeholders to adjust. He’s also constantly delaying 1:1 with us or canceling them, and he delayed our 1:1 5 times… rescheduled it once without checking we already had a 1:1 slot the next day. * always assigning tasks via verbal communication or random slack messages but never via the official task management channel our entire department agreed upon on * very poor prioritization. Once a project is thrown at him it becomes a “priority”. Then when another project is thrown, that becomes the new priority. Then he’ll go back and forth with them. * always imposing short deadlines for CC and I but never alloting any ample time to consider that BB might request changes and revisions for our projects. * always had grandiose project plans and short timelines without considering that it was just the three of us—me, CC, and CTL. But he insists that we can do it. Then when BB looks for these projects, he’d often say that “it’s taking a while” bc duh, it will take a while. *He doesn’t listen to the external stakeholders when in a virtual meeting. I’ve had to start subtly correcting him.
On my end I also noticed CTL is undermining me even though I try my best to do what I can with my role. * it’s my 1:1 he cancels and he always asks me to reschedule meetings with external stakeholders because “I need to manage my workload”. * in our weekly company meeting, he suddenly deleted my slides of updates about a progressing project because “It’s not a priority”. But when a meeting related to that project went well, suddenly it’s a priority again. * He delegates projects that don’t reflect my strength or what the company hired me for. I was getting suspicious that he was outsourcing my role’s tasks. He also did this to me and CC when he requested an impossible deadline.
Thus, this caused CC to file their resignation. CC worked around the same time as FM. I’ve asked CC to help me convince BB that making CTL a manager is a grave mistake they can’t recover their time from.

2024.05.11 19:40 cynthiafrench1 Has anyone ordered from cdufhr.com?

I received a probably too-good-to-be-true ad saying it was a warehouse sale for Joann Fabric with a lot of items that seemed completely legit if a warehouse was trying to empty out space. When I went to check out, the payment screen listed QVC at the top and the url turned into cdufhr.com, which doesn't have much for reviews. The company contact lists an address on "Fake Street" in the UK, which is a further red flag, but the policy page looks legit. I'm tempted to place an order for the minimum for free shipping, but I figured it check here first because a $25 serger or Glowforge seems pretty amazing.

2024.05.11 19:39 blackjackpoker Moving from a big pharma to a startup?

I have been working at a place this past 1.5 years and having been here, I realized that this is probably the MOST TOXIC environment I have worked in. Few instances of conversations with my manger that led me to believe this - "it's an expectation that you work on the weekends, a lot of people do it"; "the company will only do your H1B if you give back something of value to the company" (this one really gets me since it's literally on my offer letter that the company will "help with immigration"); "you are always competing with others in the department for promotion, so do whatever it takes to take the credit, and do not ask questions". I'm at a point now that I am ready to do whatever it takes to feel valued for the science I do and not participate in any of the other political bullshit. I have applied to several places - big pahrma, small startups etc. I recently interviewed at a small startup and while I wait to hear back from them, I wonder if this a step in the right direction. Will moving jobs ever so often, not having big pharma on resume have an impact on your career?
Thoughts please?
TIA!

2024.05.11 19:38 starshipstripper Towing company refuses to give me itemized invoice until I pay(VA)

I am currently out of the country, and my car was towed from my apartment complex due to a misunderstanding with the property manager. Luckily, I was able to qualify for an emergency grant for sudden financial hardship by my community college to pay the towing charges since I would not be able to pay the amount by the time I got back and I have no one who is able to reach my car to get it at this time. However, with the grant, the college pays the money directly to the vendor, but they need an invoice with the exact amount I owe on it. Unfortunately, the towing company is refusing to provide an itemized invoice until I pay the full amount, which I will be unable to do at all. Do I have any recourse or not?

2024.05.11 19:37 SpudsBirthday Advice appreciated. 11 years into career - should I take this job?

I am currently 11 years into my career and I have been with the same company the entire time. I have been promoted multiple times and my salary is currently 77.5k a year with a typical bonus that could bring me up to 83k end of year. This comes with pretty significant level of autonomy and the freedoms to work from home whenever I want and a comfort level with upper management. I am considered a senior manager currently but I am underpaid.
1 year ago the company went from a private ownership to private equity ownership / being merged with another organization. My responsibilities have pretty much tripled with very little communication or appreciation, so I have been actively interviewing for a new job. I can pretty much leave whenever I want for interviews and my job is currently 5 minute drive to my house, so the job hunt hasn’t been too painful.
I was recently interviewed for a position with another company also owned by private equity but 1 hour away commute from my house. After 2 interviews and a “critical thinking test” they requested references and indicated an offer was coming. I got a couple red flags from the interview process like limited WFH opportunities or flexibility - and especially the critical thinking test left a poor taste in my mouth considering it was brought up after an in person interview. I ended up withdrawing my application, sighting that I was interested in my next career move being one that comes with more responsibilities and more money than they advertised for their job (90-100k). They asked me what I was looking for and I said 130-140, which at the time was in line with other interviews i was actively participating in.
The other interviews ended up not yielding offers but I was a top 3 candidate. Currently I have other applications out there and I’m holding out hope I can get close to my 130-140k number especially if I keep interviewing with my flexibility but I don’t have any far along interviews currently.
The HR rep from the company i withdrew from reached back out to me a month later saying they haven’t filled the role yet and my name keeps coming up. She asked if I was still interested. After some back and forth I mentioned maybe but for a salary of 115+ bonus opportunity, which was less than I withdrew for but in the realm of possibility. She somewhat baulked and said 100k was max so we ended the conversation.
Well she just texted me again saying they can offer 100k salary with 10% bonus. I’m slightly annoyed because I’ve been pretty professional about the whole thing, stating my salary expectations and even withdrawing entirely a month ago - they keep coming back to me. I feel like they could pay me what I want considered it’s private equity and I’m not that far off, and that they are kind of playing games. On the other hand it is a 30k raise in my income however this comes with less flexibility and a pretty crappy commute. I haven’t responded yet.
What is some advice here? Should I keep holding out for a salary i feel like I am worth after years of being underpaid, but with a lot of flexibility to interview, or should I take what I can get and spend a couple years at this new org? What would you do given the situation?

2024.05.11 19:37 fortnite_noob1 Could you give me specific companies I can apply to for a job (chemistry degree)

I finished my scholarship in the US and would like to find a job soon, but the ديوان الخدمه is still closed.
Whenever I ask my family and friends for ideas of companies I can apply to, they all say the same thing (KNPC, KOC, EQUATE, SLB, BP, etc). Most of these are oil companies and they are not hiring at the moment according to their website ("no jobs found" when I look for open positions).
Could you please recommend any other private company or a 50/50 shared private and goverment company I can apply to?
I would really prefer if you can give me specific answers/names so I can check their website, apply, and send my resume/CV. It doesn't have to be an oil company; I already know it won't be possible for me to work there, but I checked them just csuse my family recommended them to me.
Thank you in advance.

2024.05.11 19:37 bigpoopondabeat How do you know when you’re hydrated?

TL;DR I’m very picky and only drink one brand of water
Here’s my anecdotal explanation that some of you may brush off or think I’m crazy. Started getting into sparkling water years ago but remained a filtered water drinker for the cost saving. When I moved to this town I found that the tap water was so hard I couldn’t afford a filter that would suffice. You can see it when you spill some and the water drys it leaves a white stain. I looked up test results my town averages over 800ppm DS from the tap. There’s also concerning levels of various contaminants. Researching home water filters was very discouraging when most don’t filter out what I want to be filtered out or they actually add aluminum to the filtered water. I started buying cases of sparkling water in glass bottles and pretty much became addicted to sparkling mineral water. I became a fiend, driving all over town looking for different brands of sparkling mineral water to try every one and determine the best. My co-worker kept telling me I need to try this brand from his hometown but it was a really small company I’d never seen or heard of. One day it appeared in my grocery store so I had to try a bottle. Reading the label I was quite intrigued. 1k+ mg/lt mineral content, produced in the same state I buy it but the most interesting part was the pH. It’s naturally alkaline (no added oxidizers) 7.4-8.0 pH. When I started getting into water I came across an article about alkaline water saying that nearly all alkaline water is made by adding oxidizers (the opposite of antioxidants which has supposed anti-aging health effects and people claim is a health benefit of wine. Oxidizers from what the article claimed made you age faster.) and all the naturally alkaline water they mentioned was super rare and expensive so like most people, I looked at alkaline water as a scam. This water did not brand itself as alkaline water though. The part that says it’s alkaline is very small on the back of the bottle. Anyways, I could tell from the very first sip that this was a game changer. Over the course of my first few weeks drinking this brand exclusively, I found that I didn’t crave water so much like I didn’t get super strong urges to chug a bunch like I did so frequently before. Consequently, I was also urinating less but also found that my urine color was not getting any darker. It felt like I was retaining more of the water that I was drinking and the water I was drinking before had just been running through me. I don’t know how else to describe the feeling because it was just a feeling. I also started to feel like my skin was less dry. The town I live in is very arid so dry/flaking skin is common. The first time I visited this town, I expelled two bloody boogers on separate mornings. People told me that was common in the morning because the air is so dry that it drys out your nose so much when you sleep it’ll cause the blood vessels in your nostrils to get too close to the skin and the skin cracks and it’ll bleed a little until it clots and the clot is what’s being expelled in the morning. I experienced this a few more times when I moved up here and when it stopped I assumed my nose had just gotten acclimated to the climate. Recently, however, my brand of sparkling water has been out of stock at my grocery store and I haven’t been able to find it anywhere else yet. I’ve been drinking Tehuacán, Topo Chico and Saratoga. Even if I didn’t care about the brand or who owns them or how they’re bad for the environment or there’s trace levels of toxic waste in every bottle, they still don’t taste as good. My brand tasted like soda. It’s actual ambrosia to me. Additionally, that constant urge to chug water is coming back and bringing more frequent urination and that feeling that the water is just running through me. Anyways, today I had my third bloody booger within a week and realized this started happening again shortly after I switched my water. I thought about the last few times it happened and realized I only had one small one since I started drinking my brand. Maybe there are other extenuating factors that I have not considered but I’m fairly convinced that the source of your water can affect how well it hydrated you. People on this sub seem to think otherwise so I expect to be told to grow up and stop overthinking this but as long as I can afford it, it’s worth it to me. I’m still open to having my mind changed if you think there’s something else that can explain my experience.

2024.05.11 19:37 Ezzzy61 Can someone help me to get into any firm as an Analyst/Sr analyst/Specialist or literally any data related role

I am a 23 y/o guy with 2 years of experience as an analyst with my masters in Data science and analytics.
A year ago I did a mistake by joining a firm on a contractual role, just because they were telling me that they convert literally everyone that they hire.
Yes I got into the firm and it was great there, almost everything but my manager hates me like she hates me to her literal guts, so everytime I try to tell her that I am over working, I am doing this / that, yes I have to tell her myself because she only prioritise her bootlickers the most, so yes whenever I try to tell her something about recognition, she'd go ahead and tell me do you want recognition or do you wanna get permanent?.
She responds like that oftenly, always tries to put me down whenever there is a team meet or any kind of gathering, she's always demeaning and I am starting to hate it now, I feel like even after I overwork on weekends, no matter what do I do, I get appreciations from our clients and different leaders but she always tries to hide it and if there's even a minor miss from my end, she'll go ahead and make it the biggest issue that there is.
So yes recently I was asking her what about my conversion?, so she tells me that try to avoid taking holidays, don't misbehave (like you usually do), she tells me I have behaviour issues just because she cannot point out my work (because I try to keep it as clean as possible), so yes she'd tell me don't do this, don't do that just because it will affect your conversion.
Today I got a mail from the firm saying that they're extending my contract, so basically the same designation, same salary and literally everything (and I am still excluded from each and every benefit of the company that I am working in).
I feel petty thus I am looking for opportunities as a Sr analyst/ Specialist/Data analyst/ Data scientist/ or literally anything related to analysis.
It'd be really helpful if someone could be of any help, I'll forward the resume and skillset from my end and apply.
Thanks alot for reading this through:)
