RAM - Total DIMM Slot Limit versus Total Motherboard Limit

2024.05.20 01:56 Defiant--Home RAM - Total DIMM Slot Limit versus Total Motherboard Limit

I have an old computer that I would like to upgrade its memory, 3GB to 8GB. It has an ASUS NARRA3 (M2N68-LA) motherboard. The manual says it can support up to 8GB (DDR2 800/667MHz SDRAM) and dual channel. However, in the instructions for memory installation/removal it says "You may install 256MB, 512MB, and 1GB DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs into the sockets" and "This motherboard does not support 16-bit double sided DDR DIMMs". At the moment the computer has four 512MB 667MHz DIMMs (not sure how that equals 3GB?). The sticker also says 1Rx16 on the DIMMs, so I assume it's single sided 16-bit? I was wondering if I could install four DDR2 2GB (total of 8GB) 800MHz 2Rx8 DIMMs as that is what I can find? Thank you!

2024.05.20 01:28 key_lime_ 1 Week Journey on TRT (thus far)

1 Week Journey on TRT (thus far)
Attached are my blood results (done through TrybeLabs - I was a pussy and was scared of getting blood drawn and seen an ad for painless blood test. It was in fact painless and easy - no this is not an ad but I want people to know there’s options)
A lot of my questions got answered.
Symptoms: - Depressed - Couldn’t gain muscle like I used to - Couldn’t recover like I used to - Brain fog - Absolutely 0 motivation to do anything
I’m 31M and didn’t want to live like this anymore so I decided to research TRT. I checked out AlphaMD because they did a lot of AMA on Reddit and provided some really solid info. I did my consultation and was prescribed 140mg/wk of Test Cyp to be injected SubQ (I was given the options of cream but doing research, injections seemed like the best results). Was also given the option of HCG but my girlfriend and I don’t plan on have kids soon so he recommended only hopping on it when we’re ready because your body could build sensitivity to it over time and it would be less potent when I actually needed it.
About a week and half later my medication arrived. 29G 1/2” needle. The instructions were clear and I watched a lot of YouTube videos while waiting for it to arrive because I was deathly scared of injecting myself. I knew the day before it was coming and was actually excited to start this new journey.
The day it arrived I was excited to try it. When I began unboxing everything and seeing the length of the needle reality set in. My hand was shaking trying to get draw the test into the needle and because the needle gauge is so high it took what seemed to be forever for the syringe to fill.
Once the syringe was filled, I noticed a little bubble at the top. I tried getting it out but everytime I pushed on the plunger it would just push out juice.i read a lot of shit that the bubble wouldn’t make a difference and because I was injecting subQ I didn’t have to worry about “injecting in a vein”.
I pinched some belly fat and with my left hand and held the syringe like a pencil with my index finger over the plunger. I couldn’t bare the sight of the needle going into my stomach. I put the needle down and came back to it like 3x. My girlfriend read the manual the medication came with and it suggested injecting in the outer thigh. I do have a decent amount of fat on the thigh so I sat down, pinched some fat and injected in the upper outer thigh/quad area. Really 0 pain with the needle going in (went at 90 degrees, not 45). Had to give it a little push, after the needle went in, I let go of the pinched fat(I heard keeping the skin pinched could cause the test to get “squeezed” out). and kept the needle in. At this time I injected .35ML super slow. About 20-25 seconds. My hands were a little shaky but it was the initial injection part I was nervous with not the pushing the plunger. It all went in, I pulled the needle out, no blood and re wiped it with the alcohol swab.
Got a huge boost of confidence after doing it. No pain. This was on a Wednesday. I read a lot about people getting itchy or lumps. I didn’t get any. 0 lumps, 0 redness. The slight amount of tenderness but that’s it.
Today I did my 2nd injection. I was a lot more confident after doing it once. Today was a lot smoother. I did the same thing as last time and injected into my other outer thigh/quad. Feels totally fine. The needle was slightly harder to get in this time, but after a little push it slid in like butter.
I just wanted to share this with everyone who was thinking of getting on and were scared. I’m only 1 week in with 2 injections. They say because subq is injecting into fat, it’s going to take a little more time to absorb, but when it does you get consistent steady results. Just going what was prescribed. Not feeling anything yet, but made huge efforts to not let this opportunity go to waste. Been eating better, hitting the gym hard, getting better sleep. I want to make sure I maximize this opportunity and really see how far I can get with my body and mind.
If anyone’s interested I can share blood results in 6 weeks to see where I’m at and can let yall know if I run into any issues between now and then.
Cheers!

2024.05.20 01:15 te91fadf24f78c08c081 transparent mode mitmproxy on raspberry pi not intercepting any traffic via tailscale

I'm trying to intercept my phone's internet traffic using mitmproxy, which I've set up on a Raspberry Pi. If I'm on my home network, I can just use mitmproxy's normal mode and manually change my phone's wifi proxy settings, but on I want to ideally be able to do this from anywhere, even if I'm not connected to a wi-fi network.
My current plan is to have both the phone and the raspberry pi connected to the same tailscale network, and then set the raspberry pi as an exit node and use mitmproxy in transparent mode to intercept my phone traffic. The problem is that it just doesn't seem to receive my phone's traffic; if I do this, while my traffic does get routed through the raspberry pi, mitmproxy doesn't see anything and I end up just connecting to the internet normally.
I followed most of the instructions in this guide, but his use case is a little different from mine, so I'm trying to figure out what else I need to configure in order to get this setup to work.
Also I want to note that I first tried this using my (Windows) laptop instead of a Raspberry Pi as a trial run and it worked fine with basically no configuration.

2024.05.20 01:00 livia2lima Day 11 - Finding things...

INTRO

Today we’ll look at how you find files, and text inside these files, quickly and efficiently.
It can be very frustrating to know that a file or setting exists, but not be able to track it down! Master today’s commands and you’ll be much more confident as you administer your systems.
Today you’ll look at some useful tools:

YOUR TASKS TODAY

INSTRUCTIONS

locate

If you're looking for a file called access.log then the quickest approach is to use "locate" like this:
$ locate access.log /valog/apache2/access.log /valog/apache2/access.log.1 /valog/apache2/access.log.2.gz
(If locate is not installed, do so with sudo apt install mlocate)
As you can see, by default it treats a search for "something" as a search for "*something*". It’s very fast because it searches an index, but if this index is out of date or missing it may not give you the answer you’re looking for. This is because the index is created by the updatedb command - typically run only nightly by cron. It may therefore be out of date for recently added files, so it can be worthwhile updating the index by manually running: sudo updatedb.

find

The find command searches down through a directory structure looking for files which match some criteria - which could be name, but also size, or when last updated etc. Try these examples:
find /var -name access.log find /home -mtime -3
The first searches for files with the name "access.log", the second for any file under /home with a last-modified date in the last 3 days.
These will take longer than locate did because they search through the filesystem directly rather from an index. Also, because find uses the permissions of the logged-in user you’ll get “permission denied” messages for many directories if you search the whole system. Starting the command with sudo of course will run it as root - or you could filter the errors with grep like this: find /var -name access.log 2>&1 grep -vi "Permission denied".
These examples are just the tip of a very large iceberg, check the articles in the RESOURCES section and work through as many examples as you can - time spent getting really comfortable with find is not wasted.

grep -R

Rather than asking "grep" to search for text within a specific file, you can give it a whole directory structure, and ask it to recursively search down through it, including following all symbolic links (which -r does not). This trick is particularly handy when you "just know" that an item appears "somewhere" - but are not sure where.
As an example, you know that “PermitRootLogin” is an ssh parameter in a config file somewhere under /etc, but can’t recall exactly where it is kept:
grep -R -i "PermitRootLogin" /etc/*
Because this only works on plain text files, it's most useful for the /etc and /valog folders. (Notice the -i which makes the search “case insensitive”, finding the setting even if it’s been entered as “Permitrootlogin”
You may now have logs like /valog/access.log.2.gz - these are older logs that have been compressed to save disk space - so you can't read them with less, or search them with grep. However, there are zless and zgrep, which do work, and on ordinary as well as compressed files.

which

It's sometimes useful to know where a command is being run from. If you type nano, and it starts, where is the nano binary coming from? The general rule is that the system will search through the locations setup in your "path". To see this type:
echo $PATH
To see where nano comes from, type:
which nano
Try this for grep, vi and service and reboot. You'll notice that they’re typically always in subfolders named bin, but that there are several different ones.

EXTENSION

The -exec feature of the find command is extremely powerful.
But "finding things" can go so much further than that! You can not only track down the content of a file, but also its usage with commands like lsof and fuser.
Test some examples of this from the RESOURCES links.

I’m trying to replace this battery from a Vava baby monitor. Is there a website that has the ability to enter specs so I can find a suitable replacement? Or does anyone know a good replacement? It measures about 55mm x 75mm, not sure of thickness because I haven’t gotten to removing it yet (appears to be glued?) but I’d say it’s 5mm or less.

2024.05.20 00:23 DontKnowSam Looking to apply to my local wastewater/reclamation plant. Confused between to different positions.

Hello all, I'm a younger guy looking to get in with the city as an Operator in the wastewater plant. However, there are two different positions and I'm not sure what the differences are. Maybe someone can explain. I should mention I have 0 experience working with wastewater or public utilities, but have worked seasonally for the city last year so I have a foot in the door. So I'm not sure which would be a better fit. The water reclamation position has a higher salary range and pay more to start, but looks to have more responsibilities.
First position: "Water Reclamation Facility Operator I"
TYPICAL DUTIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Second Position: "Wastewater Plant Maintenance Operator I"
TYPICAL DUTIES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Desired: Class A or B license
I'll probably apply to both but maybe someone here can differentiate what I'd be doing and the expectations between the two? The waste-water (second one) seems more manual labor heavy, and desires but doesn't require a CDL? Any advice would be great.

2024.05.20 00:22 Kitchen_Value_613 Portable air conditioner that blows "exhaust" out of the window question....

I just set up my portable AC in my apartment.
It blows out what the instruction manual refers to as being "exhaust" out the window.
I am a little freaked out as I hope that this exhaust does not contain CO2.
My concern is that if the attachment that blows the exhaust out of the window becomes loose that it may blow c02 around my place....
I doubt that the "exhaust" is c02 and that I do not need to worry.
It is what I would call a standard portable residential air conditioner.
Thanks.

2024.05.20 00:02 Larrydp72181 Review of Dialed Motion Ibex system

Review of Dialed Motion Ibex system
I pre-ordered a Dual Ibex setup from Dialed Motion during the first time pre-order after I upgraded to a PR5000. I looked at the Ares/Athena but I have low ceilings and duct work to work around.
I received my order on Friday and was super impressed off the bat. Every item was individually packed with item name and picture of it (excellent attention to detail but I don't love having to clean up all of that cardboard haha). They also included a nicely printed instruction manual.
It took 3 guys about 2 hours to complete which would have been much less if we were properly caffeinated and had enough of the right sized Allen wrenches it would have gone smoother. We also ended up setting up the brackets the wrong way about 4 times 😭 again caffeine would have helped.
We had to work around my Vendetta lever arms and gympin, I tried my first workout today and all I can say is WOW! Dialed Motion really put together an exceptional product, it is super smooth (easily the best pulley system I've used even for lat pulldown and rows!). I love that each unit is a 1:1 ratio and I was able to link my two systems together for a 1:2 pulldown / row.
Looking back at my setup, I don't know if I will get as much use out of my lever arms other than leg press, if I had a little bit more clearance I would have moved the arms to the back of my rack.
Here are some pics of my setup and how I used it today to work around the Vendettas. Let me know if you have any questions!

Manufacture year
Hello all,
Wondering if you can help please. I have a Singer 359K and a Kayser 18 and am wondering if anyone knows the year they were manufactured and also any instruction manuals or something? I’ve been searching online but haven’t been able to figure it out. Thank you!

2024.05.19 22:45 MonkeyBrawler I got F13+ to work on Nobara

Like many of you, i'm just starting my journey on attempting the transition to Linux Gaming. Steam really has made it insanely easy. My biggest struggle recently was just getting F13+ keys to function, and maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan aparently they are a weird concept for long time Linux users. I attempted to paste over the keys in the inet file as commonly recommended as a solution, but no luck. I finally found the answer hidden in a forgotten post by a champion of the deleted.
I really don't know what i'm doing just yet, so forgive me if this is common knowledge to many of you, but my god google has not been very helpfull, and it has been the most frustrating problem. If i understand correctly this primarily became an issue/change when Wayland was release, and X11 no longer used? No idea what those are, but this may be the solution for multiple Fedora/wayland distros. By all means, feel free to explain these like i'm 5.
Keep in mind, i still had to figure out how to map the keys to my Logitech gear via Piper, the guide i followed for that is here. The hard to find fix i'm discussing, is essentially extending the computers understanding of what to do with these inputs. You still need to use piper or some other program to get a key to provide the input.
Copy paste of the heros instructions below, and you're out there, bless you.
I finally figured it out, and got some solutions too. I’ll try to explain first and then tell you what you can do, although you can skip the explanation.

The problem

Basically there are 4 main parts in the Linux input stack relevant in this discussion:
1. At the very low level, the kernel gives keycodes to the keyboard keys and mouse buttons. Defined in /usinclude/linux/input-event-codes.h:
#define KEY_F13183
2. At a higher level, XKB then assigns names to those keycodes (/usshare/X11/xkb/keycodes/evdev) …and proceeds to assign them X11 symbols (/usinclude/X11/keysymdef.h) …in file /usshare/X11/xkb/symbols/inet:
key  { [ XF86Tools ] };
3. Your desktop environment (GNOME in this case) assigns global shortcuts to a combination of symbols, common ones configurable via GNOME settings and some hidden in gsettings schemas by GNOME settings daemon.
4. Finally at the top level you got the applications receiving the keysyms that weren’t designated for global shortcuts.
Here I’m using key-mapper for example, and if it resembles the key remapping utility you’re using, likely assigns the kernel keycodes to your mouse buttons (level 1), but XKB is assigning the “wrong” symbols to those keycodes (level 2). In turn GNOME (level 3) already defines an action for some of those keys to perform an action (toggle microphone and trackpad), and maybe some don’t even reach the application (level 4).
The culprit seems to be exactly in file /usshare/X11/xkb/symbols/inet:
key  { [ XF86TouchpadToggle ] }; key  { [ XF86TouchpadOn ] }; key  { [ XF86TouchpadOff ] }; … key  { [ XF86AudioMicMute ] }; … key  { [ XF86Tools ] }; key  { [ XF86Launch5 ] }; key  { [ XF86Launch6 ] }; key  { [ XF86Launch7 ] }; key  { [ XF86Launch8 ] }; key  { [ XF86Launch9 ] };
Notice how the F19 key is not used though.
We can, of course, assign the keys to their original symbol:
key  { [ F13 ] };
But to do it in /usshare/X11/xkb/symbols/inet is not recommended, as an update to XKB will restore the original definitions. Besides, it’s a pretty important file and if it’s badly configured you could crash your session and prevent you from login. I tried it and it even kept crashing my login manager (gdm), ttys (Ctrl+Alt+Fk) wouldn’t work too, so I had to chroot in a live usb and restore the original file.
What we could do instead is to create a custom XKB option. I believe it’s important that it’s an XKB option in /usshare/X11/xkb/symbols, because I think setxkbmap adds the “inet(evdev)” layout on top of whatever layout we have, so creating a new XKB layout won‘t help here. An option instead is added on top of every layout, even “inet(evdev)”.
I also tried to do it with XKB user-configurable options in Wayland (via ~/.config/xkb) but it seems the user options are added before the ones located in /usshare, so “inet(evdev)” ends up setting the symbols of the function keys.
We have to fix this the old fashioned way.

The solution

1. Create a new file under /usshare/X11/xkb/symbols/ called "myoptions". Paste this in there:
default partial function_keys xkb_symbols "restore_fk" { key { [ F13 ] }; key { [ F14 ] }; key { [ F15 ] }; key { [ F16 ] }; key { [ F17 ] }; key { [ F18 ] }; key { [ F19 ] }; key { [ F20 ] }; key { [ F21 ] }; key { [ F22 ] }; key { [ F23 ] }; key { [ F24 ] }; };
2. Edit the /usshare/X11/xkb/rules/evdev file, find the !option = symbols line and add your symbols filename and option name, like so:
! option = symbols myopts:re_fk = +myoptions(restore_fk)
3. (Optional \*) Edit the rules/evdev.xml (this one is with .xml), find the opening tag and paste this immediately below the tag
  myopts My custom options
Note:
\* Do this if you want GNOME Tweaks to pick up the config file and display it under “Keyboard & Mouse > Additional Layout Options”. If you don’t you can still set the new option via dconf Editor, edit /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/xkb-options, then add the option as you did in step 2, so ['myopts:re_fk'].
The old method of defining custom options still has its flaws though. As said above, an update to XKB will undo the changes to evdev and evdev.xml files, so you’ll have to redo step 2 and 3 after some time. You could automatize the process with a script file using sed, or apply a patch file, or something else, but since it’s infrequent that XKB updates I think it’s better to just manually edit it yourself.

Aftermath

After enabling the option GNOME settings correctly identified all F13-F24 keys when trying to assign them to global shortcuts. If not used for global shortcuts, the keys function will depend on the app/game that receives the keystrokes, e. g. I can set all SuperTuxKart keybindings to F13-F24 keys and it works perfectly fine, however the settings menu displays an ? for F16-F24, as it didn’t expect users to actually have a keyboard with function keys beyond F15.

2024.05.19 22:35 SometimesNibbi make sure to check your orders thoroughly!

i ordered the maybelline concealers and the Too Faced concealer via the coupon summertreat.
  1. one of my maybelline concealers seems to have air bubbles in the tube and i can see the product separating already, it seems like it’s not full of product. also, the closing of it’s cap is a little off than the other maybelline concealer which seems to be perfect.
  2. this is a minor detail that i noticed. the too faced concealer box comes with a cardboard separation where the placard that comes with the concealer (it’s a little instruction manual) is kept. the placard for my concealer was not in the separation. this is minor and i didn’t face any problem with the product as such (yet) but it seems like the box had been opened earlier.
sadly i did not notice these things while making the unboxing video so i can not appeal it.
so please check all your orders thoroughly and unbox each product and check it’s quantity as well when you make the initial unboxing video.

2024.05.19 22:31 ryvenkael EOX shockwave issues

Has anyone else had EOX Shockwave issues? Mine will not turn off with the instructions the manual says (same button combo to turn on). It doesn't turn off at all. I have held the media and intercom button down longer than the 1 second the manual says to press as a test, but the unit turns off then right back on again. Is this just me? Known issue? Are there to be firmware updates to this model like the Shockwave 3/4.0 models?
