2024.05.20 02:23 slapjackgfx 1 week until I'm out and god is testing my patience not to quit on the spot.

Saturday morning a Woman enters the store immediately after the doors are unlocked, I haven't even finished printing out & sorting my order tickets for the day. "How can I help ma'am?" She tells me she has wants to get something printed on cardstock, and she has a release code. "Oh, so if you have a release code I can set you up on one of our self-serve machines but that will come out on regular printer paper. I'd have to run it as an express order behind the counter if you wanted it on something special like index paper." She tells me 'this is always how she does it', and I don't even bother asking her to send it to the print.marketing email. "Give me the release code and I can pull it up for you and have it out in a few minutes ma'am". She does, I enter the code, download the images she wants, and print them out for her. Theyre the wrong size, she wants them 5x7. I leave those on the counter and run them again at the right size. She snatches the new ones, as well as the old ones and throws them in a bag, and I print her order ticket and go to check her out. "Looks like it's gonna be $x.xx for the 4 color prints on cardstock, are you paying with cash or card today?" She looks at the card terminal, dumbfounded, and asks me disgustedly what the $2.xx express charge is. "That's just for getting the order to you within the hour." I am becoming less convinced by the minute that she 'does this all the time'. She's furious that I 'didn't tell her about the charge beforehand', and demands I take it off. "I can set this up as a regular non-express order, and get it to you by 4PM today ma'am." She insists that I take the charge off and check her out, and when I tell her I can't do that she tells me she'll be seeing my manager, but doesn't move. I won't have my print supervisor in until noon, so I call for MOD on the radio. While I wait for him to arrive I set up another ticket for pickup at 4PM (and so without the express charge). MOD arrives, he escorts the furious customer away with my new ticket, and that's that. He tells me a bit later over the radio to 'not worry about it', and then I'm let out early at 1:30PM on the account that they're trying to cut down hours for the weekend. Jokes on them though cause I just remembered I didn't cancel that 4PM ticket so they probably printed it out and ran the order anyways and maybe even called her once it was done lmao.
I put my two weeks in last Sunday, I know it's in my contract that I can quit (or be fired) on the spot and without notice, but out of respect for my colleagues in P&M (who have been entirely friendly and helpful for my short time working here) I didn't want to leave one or all of them to pick up my slack. My store is understaffed and the print & marketing (& happy/express returns & ipostal & ups/usps dropoff) department is never not busy. I make less putting together orders worth upwards of hundreds of dollars than if I started working at my local Wawa making $4 hoagies (No disrespect intended to the heroes in the trenches at Wawa). I love working in print & media, and I'm optimistic that my experience here will help me get a job at a local print shop or something akin this summer, but as it stands I cannot keep working at this home office store that tries (and fails miserably) to be so much more than it is. Good luck to the rest of you still out there on the front lines.

Is Shopify Committing Financial Fraud Withholding Due to Stock Crashing?
I own a small business and Shopify has been holding my payments. REFUSES to explain why apologizes and says that someone will reach out- but no one ever does. This has been going on and on and on for the past 2 weeks. Come to find out, I am not the only one...
Something is up.
Shopify has been chasing me around for the last few days deleting this post that cite the laws they are breaking as I have shared it with many others who are in similar distress. Deleting this post shows that Shopify is complicit in this behavior- trying to keep us from solving a problem they created.
BELOW IS THE POST THAT HAS BEEN DELETED OVER 83 TIMES:
Our money has been withheld also. Just like yours Shopify REFUSES to deliver a response- of any kind towards clarity or a resolution (EFTA15 U.S. Code § 1693 et seq.E). Furthermore, they "resolved" the matter in my case and subsequently reversed it within minutes unceremoniously in order to retain payouts.
This is fraud. This is deceptive. This is unjust.
This is called "money floating" and yes, it's very illegal. Shopify uses our funds for their purposes (like a bank- but they are NOT a bank, and they do not have the rights to do so). The longer they have it- the more they can do with it. \as if YOU don't need your own money for the same reasons.*. Equally-*they are still bound by US FTC & financial laws (even as a Canadian company)
In this case: Shopify is the Payment Processor- while ~WE are the Consumer.~ _________________________________________________________________________ US Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA) and Regulation E EFTA: The Electronic Fund Transfer Act (15 U.S. Code § 1693 et seq.) establishes the rights and liabilities of consumers and the responsibilities of ~all participants in electronic fund transfer systems.~
  • Regulation E: Implements the EFTA and includes requirements for:
    • Disclosure of Terms and Conditions: Payment processors must clearly disclose the terms and conditions under which funds may be withheld.
    • Error Resolution: Procedures must be in place to ~resolve errors promptly, including those related to withheld funds.~
    • Unauthorized Transactions: Handling and reporting unauthorized transactions and ~notifying the consumer promptly.~
  1. Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP)
  • Enforced by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), UDAAP prohibits financial service providers from engaging in unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices. Withholding funds without proper cause or clear communication can be considered a violation
_______________________________________________________________________________ Shopify doesn't want the above posted on their forum pages because Shopify is knowingly breaking the law. Shopify's actions are Unfair, Deceptive, & Abusive This is absolutely unacceptable.
Send an email & certified letter and let them know that you are aware of the above and demand that they respond immediately.

2024.05.20 02:10 CountGlobal3764 Should I apply or do a post-Bacc?

My GPA is around a 3.2-3.3 and my sGPA is def lower. my DAT score is 17. My numbers are low but my extra curricular are:
-300 hours in total of shadowing from 3 dental offices
Now, I am fully aware that my numbers are below the average for almost all the schools. I'm very much banking havily on my other stuff, but numbers really matter. Should I apply anyway or should I do a post-bacc? I honestly don't think I can afford a masters program out of pocket, so I am considering retaking some of the pre-requisite courses like bio gen chem or Ochem at a community college (I got a B on every single prerequisite course).

Directors at the Box Office: Clint Eastwood (Part 2)
https://preview.redd.it/va70nf0l3h1d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=021d936ee0a724ca428d8559f5823592404d1822

As Reddit doesn't allow posts to exceed 40,000 characters, Eastwood's edition had to be split into two parts because his whole career cannot be ignored. The first part was posted yesterday.

Million Dollar Baby (2004)¨

"Beyond his silence, there is a past. Beyond her dreams, there is a feeling. Beyond hope, there is a memory. Beyond their journey, there is a love."
His 25th film. Based on stories from the 2000 collection Rope Burns: Stories from the Corner by F.X. Toole, it stars Eastwood, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman. The film follows Margaret "Maggie" Fitzgerald, an underdog amateur boxer who is helped by an underappreciated boxing trainer to achieve her dream of becoming a professional.
Paul Haggis wrote the script on spec, and it took four years to sell it. The film was stuck in development hell for years before it was shot. Several studios rejected the project even when Eastwood signed on as actor and director. Even Warner Bros., Eastwood's longtime home base, would not agree to a $30 million budget. Eastwood persuaded Lakeshore Entertainment's Tom Rosenberg to put up half the budget (as well as handle foreign distribution), with Warner Bros. contributing the rest.
The film had an incredible run in limited release, breaking many records for Eastwood's career. It eventually earned a fantastic $216 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film ever. It received critical acclaim, and it was named as one of his greatest films. It won four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (for Swank), and Best Supporting Actor (for Freeman). Eastwood became one of the very few directors to make two films to win both Best Picture and Best Director.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $100,492,203. ($166.8 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $216,763,646.

Flags of Our Fathers (2006)

"A single shot can end the war."
His 26th film. Based on the book written by James Bradley and Ron Powers, it stars Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford, Adam Beach, John Benjamin Hickey, John Slattery, Paul Walker, Jamie Bell, Barry Pepper, Robert Patrick and Neal McDonough. The film follows the 1945 Battle of Iwo Jima, the five Marines and one Navy corpsman who were involved in raising the flag on Iwo Jima, and the after effects of that event on their lives.
The film received positive reviews, but it bombed at the box office with just $65 million against its huge $90 million budget.
  • Budget: $90,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $33,602,376. ($52.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $65,900,249.

Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)

"The completion of the Iwo Jima saga."
His 27th film. Based on Picture Letters from Commander in Chief by Tadamichi Kuribayashi, it stars Ken Watanabe, Kazunari Ninomiya, Tsuyoshi Ihara, Ryō Kase and Shidō Nakamura. It's a companion film to Flags of Our Fathers, and portrays the Battle of Iwo Jima from the perspective of the Japanese soldiers.
In the process of reading about the Japanese perspective of the war for Flags of Our Fathers, in particular General Tadamichi Kuribayashi, Eastwood decided to film a companion piece with this film, which was shot entirely in Japanese. The film was shot back-to-back, starting filming just one month after Flags of Our Fathers wrapped filming.
Despite being seen as the least accessible of both films, this film was much more successful at the box office than the previous film (including a colossal $42 million in Japan alone). It also received critical acclaim, particularly for how it handed the depiction of good and evil from both sides. It received 4 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.
  • Budget: $19,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $13,756,082. ($21.3 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $68,673,228.

Changeling (2008)

"To find her son, she did what no one else dared."
His 28th film. It stars Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich, and is based on real-life events, specifically the 1928 Wineville Chicken Coop murders in Mira Loma, California. It follows a woman united with a boy who she realizes is not her missing son. When she tries to demonstrate that to the police and city authorities, she is vilified as delusional, labeled as an unfit mother and confined to a psychiatric ward.
The film earned $113 million worldwide, barely breaking even at the box office. The film received mixed reviews, but Jolie received praise for her performance. She was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress.
  • Budget: $55,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $35,739,802. ($52 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $113,398,237.

Gran Torino (2008)

"Ever come across somebody you shouldn't have messed with?"
His 29th film. It stars Eastwood, and follows Walt Kowalski, a recently widowed Korean War veteran alienated from his family and angry at the world, whose young neighbor, Thao Vang Lor, is pressured by his cousin into stealing Walt's prized Ford Torino for his initiation into a gang. Walt thwarts the theft and subsequently develops a relationship with the boy and his family.
The film received great reviews, as well as praise from the Hmong community. It ended up becoming a sleeper hit, and it earned $270 million worldwide, becoming his highest grossing film.
  • Budget: $25,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $148,095,302. ($215.6 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $269,958,228.

Invictus (2009)

"His people needed a leader. He gave them a champion."
His 30th film. It stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Following the aftermath of the apartheid, President Nelson Mandela decides to unite his people by supporting a rugby team in their bid to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
The film earned $122 million worldwide, barely breaking even. It received positive reviews, and Freeman and Damon received Oscar nominations for their performances.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $37,491,364. ($54.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $122,426,792.

Hereafter (2010)

"Touched by death. Changed by life."
His 31st film. It stars Matt Damon, Cécile de France, Bryce Dallas Howard, Lyndsey Marshal, Jay Mohr and Thierry Neuvic. An American with a special connection to the afterlife, a woman with a near-death experience and a young English boy, who lost his loved ones, cross paths in an effort to find closure in their lives.
Despite mixed reviews, it managed to earn $107 million, turning a small profit.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $32,746,941. ($47 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $106,956,330.

J. Edgar (2011)

"The most powerful man in the world."
His 32nd film. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts, Josh Lucas, and Judi Dench, and follows the career of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, focusing on Hoover's life from the 1919 Palmer Raids onward.
The film received mixed reviews; while DiCaprio received praise, the technical aspects of the film were criticized. It earned $84 million, making it a box office success, but far below what DiCaprio usually makes at the box office.
  • Budget: $35,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $37,306,030. ($52 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $84,920,539.

Jersey Boys (2014)

"Everybody remembers it how they need to."
His 33rd film. Base on the 2004 jukebox musical, it stars John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza and Christopher Walken, and tells the story of the musical group The Four Seasons.
It received mixed reviews, with praise for the musical numbers but criticism for the narrative and runtime, and failed at the box office.
  • Budget: $40,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $47,047,013. ($62.3 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $67,647,013.

American Sniper (2014)

"The most lethal sniper in U.S. history."
His 34th film. It is based on the memoir by Chris Kyle, Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice, and stars Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller. The film follows the life of Kyle, who became the deadliest marksman in U.S. military history with 255 kills from four tours in the Iraq War, 160 of which were officially confirmed by the Department of Defense. While Kyle was celebrated for his military successes, his tours of duty took a heavy toll on his personal and family life.
In 2012, Cooper and Warner Bros. bought the rights to the memoir. Cooper wanted Chris Pratt to star as Kyle, but WB told him they would only greenlight the film if he stars in it. After Kyle's murder in 2013, Steven Spielberg signed to direct. Spielberg had read Kyle's book, though he desired to have a more psychological conflict present in the screenplay so an "enemy sniper" character could serve as the insurgent sharpshooter who was trying to track down and kill Kyle. Spielberg's ideas contributed to the development of a lengthy screenplay approaching 160 pages. Due to Warner Bros.' budget constraints, Spielberg felt he could not bring his vision of the story to the screen. So Eastwood was brought in to direct.
The film attained a solid, but not extraordinary response from critics. It also attracted some controversy over its portrayal of both the Iraq War and Kyle himself.
The box office though?
To say that the film had a fantastic run would be selling it short.
It opened on Christmas Day in 4 theaters, and it earned a huge $633,456 ($158,364 PTA). But the following weekend, it actually increased despite playing at the same amount of theaters, adding $676,909. That translated to a $169,227 PTA, becoming the highest second weekend PTA in history for a live-action film. And on its third weekend, it earned $579,518 ($144,879 PTA), becoming the first film to have three weekends above $100,000 PTA. In the 22 days it played in just 4 theaters, it earned $3,424,778.
On its first wide weekend, the film shook the industry by opening with a colossal $89 million. That was almost as much as the other 2014 blockbusters, and given that the film didn't have 3D pricing, it's very likely it sold far more tickets than them. It broke the January opening weekend record by twice as much, and the second biggest for an R-rated title. With insane word of mouth ("A+" on CinemaScore), this film had the legs. In less than one week, it became Eastwood's highest grossing film domestically. On its second weekend, it dropped just 28% and made $64 million, which was the biggest second weekend for an R-rated film (a record it still maintains) and crossed $200 million domestically. And by March, the film overtook The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 ($334 million) as the highest grossing 2014 film in North America.
After an insane run in theaters, it closed with a gigantic $350 million domestically, which made it the second highest grossing R-rated film in North America. Overseas, it was also very strong, and it made a huge $547 million worldwide. It was easily Eastwood's highest grossing film, even adjusted for inflation. One of the greatest box office runs in recent memory. It received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actor for Cooper, ultimately winning one for Best Sound Editing.
The biggest surprise of the 2010s? Perhaps. Cause let's face it, when 2014, did any of you had this as the top film of the year? Or even in the Top 20? Please.
  • Budget: $59,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $350,159,020. ($463.7 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $547,659,020.

Sully (2016)

"The untold story behind the miracle on the Hudson."
His 35th film. Based on the autobiography Highest Duty by Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles, it stars Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney, Anna Gunn, Autumn Reeser, Holt McCallany, and Jamey Sheridan. The film follows Sullenberger's 2009 emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River, in which all 155 passengers and crew survived and the subsequent publicity and investigation.
The film received strong reviews, and earned over $240 million worldwide, becoming one of his highest grossing films.
  • Budget: $60,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $125,070,033. ($163.3 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $243,870,033.

The 15:17 to Paris (2018)

"The real heroes."
His 36th film. Based on the autobiography by Jeffrey E. Stern, Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler, and Alek Skarlatos, it stars Stone, Sadler, and Skarlatos as themselves and follows the trio through life leading up to and including their stopping of the 2015 Thalys train attack.
Despite choosing Kyle Gallner, Jeremie Harris and Alexander Ludwig as the leads, Eastwood decided to cast the heroes to play themselves, which was met with confusion as they lacked acting experience. And that was reflected on the final film; it received negative reviews for its acting, and it bombed at the box office.
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $36,276,286. ($45.2 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $57,176,286.

The Mule (2018)

"Nobody runs forever."
His 37th film. Based on the 2014 The New York Times article The Sinaloa Cartel's 90-Year-Old Drug Mule by Sam Dolnick, it stars Eastwood, Bradley Cooper, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Peña, Dianne Wiest, and Andy García. Due to financial issues, horticulturist Earl Stone becomes a courier for a drug cartel. Slowly, he grows closer to his estranged family, but his illegal activities threaten much more than his life.
It received good reviews (although some questioned its story and tone), and earned over $173 million worldwide.
  • Budget: $50,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $103,804,407. ($129.6 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $174,804,407.

Richard Jewell (2019)

"The world will know his name and the truth."
His 38th film. The film stars Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, and Olivia Wilde. The film depicts the July 27 Centennial Olympic Park bombing and its aftermath, as security guard Richard Jewell finds a bomb during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, and alerts authorities to evacuate, only to later be wrongly accused of having placed the device himself.
The film received positive reviews, but several journalists criticized the critical portrayal of the reporter that first accused Jewell: Kathy Scruggs (specifically for trading sex for stories). The film marked another commercial failure for Eastwood.
  • Budget: $45,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $22,345,542. ($27.4 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $44,645,542.

Cry Macho (2021)

"A story of being lost and found."
His 39th film. Based on the novel by N. Richard Nash, it stars Eastwood and Dwight Yoakam. Set in 1979, it follows a former rodeo star hired to reunite a young boy in Mexico with his father in the United States.
Nash tried to get this film made all the way since 1970s, but no studio was willing to pick it up. He restructured his films as a novel, was successful and studios were now interested. There were a few candidates for the leading role; Robert Mitchum, Roy Scheider, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Eastwood himself. Arnie was willing to star in the film back in 2003, but put it on hold when he was elected Governor. He was set to star after leaving office, but the project was scrapped after his affair scandal was made known. In 2020, Eastwood signed to return.
The film received mixed reviews, particularly for its writing and acting. It was also a huge flop at the box office, and marked Eastwood's least attended film as leading man. David Zaslav criticized the studio's decision to finance the film. Warner executives allegedly said that although they knew the film was unlikely to turn a profit, they felt indebted to Eastwood for his decades-long relationship with the studio and his consistent ability to deliver films under budget and on time.
  • Budget: $33,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $10,310,734. ($11.9 million adjusted)
  • Worldwide gross: $16,510,734.

The Future

He recently wrapped post-production on his 40th film, Juror No. 2. It stars Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, Zoey Deutch, Leslie Bibb, Chris Messina, J. K. Simmons and Kiefer Sutherland, and follows a juror serving on a murder trial who realizes he may be at fault for the victim's death.

Across those 39 films, he has made $3,536,687,297 worldwide. That's $90,684,289 per film.

The Verdict

Insanely profitable.
Even the bombs do not taint this kind of reputation. Eastwood has made all these films under budget and never past its deadline. That's something that has to be treasured for studios, no wonder he's been staying with Warner Bros. since 1976. His ability to get films ready in short notice is impressive; Richard Jewell started filming in June and it was on theaters in December. One of the most impressive actors who transitioned into directors. You can tell that Sergio Leone and Don Siegel taught him well.
Now of course, his method of directing can also have its setbacks: he's often known for not asking for multiple takes and he skips rehearsals. So that means the performances of his actors aren't always the best they could've done. Which is why, despite making some masterpieces or fantastic films, he's also made a few films with weak technical aspects: poor lighting (J. Edgar), questionable logic (Cry Macho), obvious props (the fake baby in American Sniper), and some bad acting (Gran Torino and The 15:17 to Paris). At the same time, it's clear he can also get extraordinary performances through these methods; Gene Hackman, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman won Oscars for starring in his films.
He also proved old age doesn't prevent you from continuing to work. He's turning 94 in a few weeks, and he's still directing films. Manoel de Oliveira directed films until he was 104, so perhaps we still have a few more years with Eastwood behind the camera.
P.S. Ever since I started this series, there's been suggestions that I should do "Actors at the Box Office" multiple times. While the idea is intriguing, that doesn't seem feasible for me. I'd have to categorize whether the actor is leading, supporting, original IP, adaptation, remakes, etc. Besides, with the continuing decline of star power, it's tough to decide what actor is truly moving the needle at the box office. That's why I'm making solely "Directors at the Box Office", because the director is responsible for the production. If the film succeeds, the director will get credit. And if the film flops, the director will be blamed. So this is the closest you'll get to "Actors at the Box Office".
Hope you liked this edition. You can find this and more in the wiki for this section.
The next director will be Robert Zemeckis. One of the biggest falls from grace.
I asked you to choose who else should be in the run and the comment with the most upvotes would be chosen. It had to be a controversial filmmaker. Well, we'll later talk about... Zack Snyder. Oh, BoxOffice chose fuego 🔥
This is the schedule for the following four:
Week Director Reasoning
May 20-26 Robert Zemeckis Can we get old Zemeckis back?
May 27-June 2 Richard Donner An influential figure of the 70s and 80s.
June 3-9 Ang Lee What happened to Lee?
June 10-16 Zack Snyder RIP Inbox.
Who should be next after Snyder? That's up to you.

2024.05.20 02:06 boater-fraud California Marina Tenancy - Commercial Non-liveaboard

I have a somewhat complicated issue with a marina in California violating my dock lease, combined with discrimination issues and retaliatory eviction. I have considered writing the whole thing out here but it would be crazy long and possibly hard to follow. Instead I am asking: What government agency(County, State, Federal, etc) would start with contacting about filing a complaint? I looked and looked online but I am having a hard time determining what office would handle that because it's not like a residential lease agreement it's considered a commercial lease and it's a non-liveaboard commercial use(the marina is mixed use commercial and recreational/residential). I may post the whole account in a somewhat streamline version but I can see it creating tons more questions and possible confusion. I may be up for that a little later.... I have sought legal council but they didn't point me in the direction of any office to date. My idea is to file a formal complaint to start and go from there. Maybe FTC? Or where? I'm not 100% sure about the council I have spoken with. Maybe I should make the core of my focus on the discrimination aspect and retaliatory eviction of which there was no warning or legal process. I know....I should probably just write out the whole buts its not time yet. The main point as I said is to find the correct government offices to file complaints at first and go from there. I may also post this in another subreddit. Starting here first. Thank you.

2024.05.20 02:06 sad-whereabouts How can I not pay this?

How can I not pay this?
I received this letter yesterday in the mail, for my surgery that is on Wednesday, May 22nd. I was not told about this upfront cost. I spent this past week getting lots of blood work and an MRI for unrelated health issues at the Mayo Clinic and a different hospital. I have also had other health costs this year. I know all of this should cover the deductible of $1500. I have spoken to my insurance company today, and they said they do not have any of the stuff from Mayo claimed yet. I cannot afford this in any capacity, I have been without a job, partly due to this condition. I reached out to my parents, who I am still on their insurance at this moment, and they also cannot afford it. This doctor is in-network. I was told that this was run by my insurance several months ago (this surgery has been planned since February). I have had this issue since I was 18, and I will be 25 in August. I have planned this out so I have surgery this week, and start my new job next week. I really cannot afford to push back the surgery. Any advice?

2024.05.20 02:01 _garynunchucks_ In a seemingly impossible financial situation on my own, any advice?

19M here. Just finished my sophomore year of college and back home with mom, dad, and brother for the summer. Dad and I have a terrible relationship and do not speak to each other.
Dad paid my first year of college but then got mad for no reason (I mean this very literally, he randomly started screaming at me in the car over nothing) and decided he wasn’t paying my second year. Mom makes very little money teaching so she is financially dependent on him for the most part but she decided to co-sign a loan so I could still attend school.
This summer, he decided he’s not letting my mom co-sign another loan and she refuses to do it behind his back since she is financially dependent. I thought I had a plan figured out where I work enough this summer to make a total of $6K, move out to an apartment with my friends (I’m not allowed to live at home once summer is over), and take the semester off of classes so I can earn more and pay for school myself in the spring.
Got a new job and I’m starting tomorrow. Told my manager that I will be leaving for a couple weeks in the middle of the summer to go out of the country since my parents had already booked tickets to visit our family months ago. She was not happy about that but told me I should apply for a leave of absence soon, but it may be rejected. I come home to talk to my mom about it and she suddenly springs on me that we are going away for a month now. Meaning I may be terminated from this job before I can even start working. And if I do get it, I’ll be working even less and will leave the summer with even less money. To add to that, I also pay for all my own food and necessities, meaning even EVEN less money.
The other issue is my apartment. There is a good chance I will need someone to co-sign the lease on that, and once again neither of my parents would co-sign. And no, I don’t have any family members or friends here who would do it either. Basically, I don’t know how I’m going to survive anymore.

2024.05.20 01:42 AneamicAllTheTime Termination due to Social Media Activity. Are there any protections?

My Brother just got fired at his part time job and the whole situation is so bizarre I can't believe it.
Description of events heard from my brother, can't tell if there is more going on in the background that I don't know about. This is the information I was told -
Brother (18) has a part time job where he was called during the middle of his shift to talk to HR. HR asked about a comment on a social media post made by a coworker (they also go to the same school), and asked why he made it. The comment was 'count your days'. He said it was an inside joke and showed that the coworker even liked the comment last night. HR said its a harmful comment and that because of the zero tolerance policy they have to let him go. He works at an 'At will' state.
More background: When prodded about why the coworker might have reported him (I think that's the most likely) Brother swears that even up until this morning coworker was friendly and joking with him all day. He swears that there was no fights/arguments and he is as confused as we are.
Of course, Ik that he is not getting this job back and that's not the point of the post. I am genuinely perplexed and want to understand a few things -
  1. Can HR fire anybody for comments? So often we comment stuff like 'watch out' or 'be careful' on friends post. What constitutes a proper investigation to understand the context or are they not liable to to even investigate? I guess I am appalled that they can hear allegations from one person (whoever it might have came from) and then fire someone without any written termination letter within 5 minutes.
  2. Will this show up on his employment records?
Please give me all your knowledge. Good or bad.

2024.05.20 01:36 Green_Active_6365 Worked illegally, fired illegally?

TL;DR, I got fired for adhering to federal research law, but should've been demoted for not having a completed degree beforehand anyway.
This was a while back but within statute of limitations I'm CA.
I was hired to be a type of therapist when the position did not require a degree for the liswnce, and for insurance/Medicaid approval. Two years in, county guidelines changed, and my boss took me in an office and said "if anyone asks, you have your degree already." And winked. I agreed, because I wanted to work, and they were gonna let me finish my degree while working, including the research project required for it. They approved my research, agreed to supervise it. The study involved kids with autism. One client approved for my research study asked directly why she was selected. Due to federal laws on research and child assent, I had to answer. I explained because she was older than 7 and had autism. She then asked for confirmation. "I have autism?" I didn't know she didn't know. Again due to federal law, and not being able to lie, I confirmed, yes. A month later, parent complained that her daughter had become suicidal from learning she had autism, and filed a grievance with the county directly. The county called it child endangerment and harm, and told my clinical director if I wasn't fired, the entire company would get audited, if not closed down. She chose to fire me. I was not allowed in the meeting, according to my director, she showed county the consent form parent signed, the laws requiring informing her, parent did not care.
Was this wrongful termination? Is my first question. Could I fight to be reinstated? Is my second.

2024.05.20 01:13 Arrick How I fought RTO and won! My simple method to avoid it.

Just scored a win against the RTO mandate with a tip from an employment lawyer.
Religious Accommodation: I emailed HR and explained my need for specific prayer times, which my home setup perfectly support. This is protected under federal law, so I just laid out my requirements and why the office doesn't work for me. Remember, employers can ask for details to assess your request but can't pry into your religious beliefs. If you need help drafting an email to HR, just ask ChatGPT. Be sure to mention "Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964" (which is the applicable law) and the company's "duty to accommodate" you.
There's also the medical accommodation route. But you'll need a doctor's note for that. Religious accommodation is the perfect excuse since there's no way to verify it. Another option is caregiving responsibilities (i.e aging parent) which is protected under the FMLA.
This approach not only allows you to WFH indefinitely but also protects against wrongful termination. A lot of companies are using RTO to push out employees who won’t come back, avoiding severance and basically doing sneaky layoffs.

2024.05.20 01:08 HawkbitAlpha What's the deal with the jury duty phone line?

I've been summoned to jury duty for the first time, set for tomorrow morning at Hinds court. The letter I got for it says to call a number at the court office after 6 for an automated check-in message, but I've tried calling in three times now, and gotten the denied call tone every time. Do any of y'all know what the deal is with this thing?

2024.05.20 01:00 BookkeeperOk6467 Should I hire an employment lawyer? (Rhode Island)

TL;DR: Toxic job, anxiety disorder, trying to figure out exit strategy, do I need a lawyer to protect me against risk?
I have worked in a very unpleasant and toxic environment at a private university for 2 years and had 4 bosses. I took the job - my first offer - in a field I had newly transitioned to, so I was willing to put up with a lot of bullshit.
Unfortunately I also have a horrible anxiety disorder, and this is an environment where very anxiety-inducing, punitive measures are frequently used. I have disclosed this to HR and Boss #2 & Boss #4. After Boss #2 became my boss, I also verbally reported to HR that I felt Boss #1 was previously engaging in bullying behavior towards me, that I only wanted to document it and did not want it addressed because I feared retaliation.
This is an organization that is losing money and making bad decisions on how to make up for lost revenue. I am on the higher paid end for my role, and of late many higher-paid people are being pushed out to hire cheaper labor. It was made clear to me on multiple occasions Bosses #1 & #4 that I can easily be replaced by contractors for less or that the work I’m doing is not worth the pay I’m receiving. Boss #4 has also engaged in unethical (but not technically illegal) behavior, but has been at the organization for 30 years. Boss #4 is clearly not going anywhere.
I am having panic attacks nearly daily because Boss #4 is scrutinizing my work extremely closely, contacting me out of office hours, and moving goal posts in addition to making the bulk of my job “other duties as assigned.” Boss #4 wants to know where I am and what I’m doing at all times. This behavior makes me super anxious and I’ve communicated that. Boss #4 has also “caught” me using my personal email as a dummy account to test out some tech features in my own private tech space, but she made it seem that I could be using it to look at private user information which would be a FERPA violation. I am quite sure I mentioned using this for testing and was certainly not hiding it.
We’re all unhappy. I want to leave this job but want to do so on my terms in terms of exit strategy. I’ve hired an employment lawyer in the past, but that was in MA, not RI, and it was for a truly clear and awful situation. I did a free consultation with an RI employment lawyer and he felt that they would likely PIP me, terminate me, and not protest an unemployment claim. He did not think I needed a lawyer. But I know that this employer is quite vindictive, and has frequently made narratives to fit decisions for termination. I’m clearly a bad fit, and I dread going to work, but I need a job until I can transition elsewhere so it is what it is for now.
I’m terrified this employer will name misconduct as the reason for a termination, and I will be humiliated and have no recourse for collecting unemployment, which I would need. I’m sure I’ve done something to violate company policy in the 2 years I have been there- if they want to find something, I’m sure they can. I have had panic attacks in my sleep because of this. Should I hire a lawyer just in case? My best hope at this time would a constructive dismissal with uncontested unemployment and no negative reference from them and/or some kind of non-disparagement agreement. How much risk am I exposed to here?

2024.05.20 00:36 Richard_Ingalls The Prisoner of Elixium: Part 1

Author's Note: I've been an HFY reader for some time now, and now I have the urge to share a story. This is my first story, so please leave feedback in the comments! Also, I may or may not decide to make a game based of this story. If I do, I'll link it in a comment. Without further ado, enjoy the story!
High Admiral Tilgrix Traxiv was having a bad day. He was currently sitting in a fighter, which he was only in because the escape pods were destroyed, and not only had it been EMP'd, disabling almost every system except life support, which itself was hanging by a thread, the grav-gen was spinning. It spun at just the right speed to make him incredibly nauseous. And to make matters worse, none of this should have happened! He was 3 systems away from the main battlefront against the Mei-Kai, and worse, he was on his way home from battle. His crew was being transferred home for a much needed break from the stress of war, and they were woefully unprepared to be attacked so suddenly. The Mei-Kai ships were there, picking at the corpse that was his ship. They were built in typical Mei-Kai fashion; with no rhyme or reason whatsoever. Their design philosophy seemed to be:
"Oh hey, we need this thingamabob"
"Put it next to the thingamajig"
"Wait, we need this thingy as well"
"Ok, just slap it on top. It'll be fine!"
Annoyingly, this haphazard approach to ship construction was remarkably effective. It also meant they could just directly rip off whatever they wanted from enemy ships, and slap it on a place that is functional. Only the humans are comparable, with their modular design philosophy, but they aren't involved in the war, unfortunately. Or perhaps fortunately. The Sefliician {Sef-lee-eesh-ee-an} and the Mei-Kai governments had asked that the humans stay out of the war. Well, they asked everyone to stay out, but specifically the humans. The humans were too good at warfare. They demonstrate their prowess every Galactic sub-cycle in the Sim War Games. Whichever side had them would win. Even if it was the entire galaxy versus them. Humans never lose wars. Except against themselves. In any case, the Sefliician Empire and the Mei-Kai Union prefered to battle it out themselves, in accordance to the Galactic Constitution, subsection c, rule seven, under section x, Disputed Territory Settlements. Legally, anyways. In practice, both parties simply wanted to see who was tougher. They decided to fight for the next 50 sub-cycles, capturing as much territory as possible, and whatever was held by each at the end, would belong to them. While this ambush wasn't strictly against the Galactic Rules of Warfare Against Union Members, it was certainly not fair play.
This was all going through Tilgrix's mind as he drifted through space, watching the Mei-Kai dismantle his ship and the Terran Conglomerate hospital ships trickle in to start rescuing survivors. Suddenly, a bright flash appeared, and a wormhole was ripped open behind the Mei-Kai vessels, and through it trillions of tiny ships entered and began ripping the unsuspecting vessels to shreds.
The Volctic! he thought in horror as the swarm of enemy ships tore through the Mei-Kai like butter. The hospital ships began firing at the swarm, even as they tried to finish gathering the survivors and jump away. The Volctic swarm began to race towards the Terran ships, being destroyed by the hundreds, but millions took the place of every ship destroyed. The Volctic have been busy in their long exile it seems, Tilgrix thought as he began desperately praying to any being in the cosmos that could hear him that the EMP would wear off in time for him to activate the emergency jump drive every fighter was equipped with since the humans were first contacted.
His prayers were answered. The ship's essential systems began turning back on, beginning with the jump drive. Internally broadcasting his gratitude to whatever force answered his prayer, he powered up the jump drive. This caught the attention of the Volctic ships, but he managed to jump in time, vanishing into the aether just before they caught him.
Tilgrix arrived at a nearby beam station a few seconds later, roughly 6 systems away. He breathed a sigh of relief before noticing a coms transmission request. Accepting it, he was startled by the sudden excited chatter noise of someone who was clearly far too new to the job of Space Traffic Controller. "Hello traveler! And welcome to the Sifilax Primary Beam Station. Not only are we able to send you to any beam station in the Galaxy in less than an hour, we have all that your heart could desire while waiting for a flight or for bureaucracy to let you leave! We have restaurants, bars, and casinos! We have gyms, pools, and parks! Here for all your between-transit needs! Please dock your fighter in Dock C, Subdock F." Tilgrix grinned. He remembered being that enthusiastic about his job. Within a few minutes, he was docked.
Once he got out of the cockpit, he immediately headed over to the nearest Map Projector. "Sefliician Military Office" he stated. A route was highlighted, and uploaded to his state-of-the-art HUD chip. He quickly made his way over. After a brief pause by the door, he entered. The computer scanned him, and a hologram appeared behind the desk. "Hello, High Admiral Tilgrix Traxiv. What brings you here?"
"I bring dire news," he stated flatly. "I need to speak to the Emperor immediately." Surprised, the Digital Sapient quickly smoothed her face before complying, opening a direct holo-link between Tilgrix and the Emperor before vanishing. Tilgrix waited patiently for the computer to verify his identity and the Emperor to respond. "This better be good Admiral," The Emperor warned. "I'm in the middle of a council session. We have urgent business to conduct."
"Your majesty, this is the most important message I have ever sent in my life." The Emperor's face briefly darkened [This is the same as a human face paling], eye ridges shooting up, before he regained his composure. "Go on..." he said warily. "As you know, I was being transferred out of battle, and on my way home. Three systems in from the front, we were ambushed by the Mei-Kai." The Emperor raised an eyebrow at that. "While that is certainly foul play, it is not illegal in and of itself, and certainly not dire enough by itself to warrant such a drastic opening statement. What else is there? Did they hurt civilians? Did they butcher anyone? What is it?" Tilgrix hesitated, before setting his shoulders. "While the Mei-Kai were harvesting my ship, a wormhole opened up, and trillions of ships arrived. Volctic ships." The Emperor froze, face becoming almost black. "Are you sure?" he asked, half rhetorically. "Unfortunately so, your majesty." The Emperor smoothed his features, before setting his own shoulders, and narrowing his eyes. "Then we need to call an emergency session. I will have my servants send orders to assign you a ship. We meet before the Galactic Council in three days." The Emperor terminated the call.
Within an hour, he was assigned a ship to travel to the Galactic Union Council Station for an emergency meeting. The war against the Mei-Kai was put on hold. The Volctic had returned.

2024.05.20 00:24 Chinita_08 Need to break lease early due to landlord’s brother harassing us

Hi. I am need of advice on how to go about terminating my lease early. I have no problems with my landlord and his mom which was my landlord before her husband passed away. It’s the brother who started causing us issues. When we moved in here back in 2019, LL’s brother, doesn’t live here. During pandemic, LL and brother moved in together with their parents and the landlordship was transferred to my now LL.
On 2022, I kicked out my roommate who I share the rent with and that person after being kicked out harassed and stalked me and my son that I had to file for a TRO. I didn’t move because here at least our neighbors look out for me and my son. If we move nobody knows us there and our stalker may found out where we live and break into our home again. Everything was fine with LL, his mom and the brother. LL’s brother and I get along, we would greet each other, have a long talk if we have time. We were good.
Fast forward to the last quarter of 2023, my LL’s brother started acting weird towards us. He no longer greets us back. He would always frown whenever he sees us. At one point he knocked on our door and told us that he doesn’t want us to accept guests in our apartment nor see my son’s friends near the property. Since I don’t want any conflict, I just said ok and moved on. Following that he became more rude but we just ignored him. Soon after we would hear banging noises from the basement, slamming doors and loud music emanating from below us (we live in the 1st floor and them on the 2nd). At first, I thought it was just the pipes banging because it was winter but it would be constant during daytime and especially during sleeping hours that it would awaken us. This was followed by LL’s brother throwing bottle water and unidentified liquid to my son 4 times and the last one I caught him. The worst was he banged on our door clutching a gun on his waist and threatened me that he will come for me. His brother told me it was just a fake gum and he was using it to scare people but he wouldn’t harm. He told me to not call the police and promised that they will talk to him.
Now my mom moved in with me and he started the banging of our floor and slamming doors again. Just last week he walked on the spot where my room is located and stomp hard many times on the floor above me. It has affected us mentally and is really triggering my anxiety. I reported to the cops that he is harassing us by cops are downplaying it as noise complaint only. I don’t want us to end up in court if possible. I want to move ASAP because we don’t feel safe here anymore and have our peace back? What should I do? How should I break the lease? Sorry for the long post. TIA

2024.05.20 00:17 migue_guero Withdrawing or dropping my claim in California (help)

About a year ago i was terminated from Amazon on what i thought was wrongful termination. I contacted a lawyer and was told there was nothing i could do but perhaps file for workers comp and they gave me the whole “your job took a toll on your body you can be compensated” talk. I reluctantly gave them my info and e-signed some documents (regretfully now) left it at that.
They then called back and i did not answer but their voicemail said “if i was still interested to call back” and well I did not call back for i was not interested.
Fast forward many months later i started receiving letters in the mail about a deposition and QME appointments. I reached out to “my lawyers” and wouldn’t receive a call back from their receptionist. I left voicemails, found their email on their site and emailed them all about withdrawing me from whatever it was they had submitted me in.
Radio silence. I figured it went away but then i received yet another deposition letter. I contacted the firm again and finally someone called me back and i explained to them i wanted to drop the claim. They tried to convince me to not drop it but i didn’t budge. I followed up with a text message (so i had proof) saying i wanted to drop the claim. No response to the text, I figured it finally went away
I have received yet ANOTHER letter in the mail about another QME appointment THREE MONTHS after contact with the lawyer and now the letter claims failure to appear will result in a $500 fee.
$500 fee to who? Why should I even ask, of course it’s for me.
How the heck do i make this go away? Can someone please help me!
Thanks in advance.

2024.05.20 00:16 The_Do_It_All_Badger Front Line Angel

A soldier of a reptilian-analog race lays in his makeshift cot, in a M*A*S*H* tent not terribly far from the front lines. He's lost too much blood, from far too many extraneous holes in his body, and the veins have withdrawn to where doctors can't get an IV into him. They can't save him- they don't even have spare painkillers, so he can feel himself dying the whole while.
It's cold. So very, very cold. His eyes are swollen shut from a godawful mix of biochem weapons that the enemy loves spraying before a banzai charge. This was his first real battle, and it will be his last. He is alone, and he is absolutely terrified, being a young man barely the equivalent of eighteen by human reckoning. Panic starts to set in as he feels himself slipping further and further away. He fidgets and strains against the bedding he's half-swaddled into, emitting shrill noises of distress.
"No.. Not yet.. I don't wanna go yet.. Please..!" Begging to whatever or whoever might hear him, his one still functional arm reaches out and gropes blindly for anything, anyone. He can't stand it anymore. Despair has almost sent him into a full on tantrum when a soft, warm hand grabs his and clutches it tightly. A familiar hand.
"Mama's here, sweetie.. It's okay now. Shh.. Just lay back.. Here, drink this." A cup of something warm is brought to his lips. He immediately relaxes when he hears the voice, and carefully sips at the delicious herbal tea. The slightly savory, slightly fruity flavor and natural chemicals help further calm him. He gasps a bit after the cup is brought away, trying to force his eyes open to look at the familiar, loving voice.
Fatima 'Mama' Basu, one of the human auxiliaries that provided civilian services like treats and gaming to the soldiery. She shouldn't be here, she wasn't even a nurse. But he was glad she was, all the same.
"Mama.. I'm scared, Mama.." His grip on her hand tightened, the shivering growing worse even as he felt her place a heated blanket over him. The warmth was welcome, even if it was just putting ointment on a sucking chest wound.
Another hand began brushing itself over his forehead and the frill that stuck up in the middle, trying to calm his nerves. "I know, sweetie.. And I'm sorry.. Mama will stay right here until the end, I promise." The woman looks at the scales that are coming off of her son's head as she tries to provide gentle physical contact to ease his passing, knowing full well that it means he's close. Tears stream down her cheeks and fall onto his, eliciting a smile from the dying soldier.
"Thank.. Thank you.. Mama.. I just.. Didn't want.. To be.. Alone.." He feels a brief tinge of pain- and then intense relief. A morphine syrette. Where did she get that? It didn't matter. She put it right into a major artery. The pain relief was swift, as fast as his heart was beating. Breathing that had previously been severely labored began to slow and relax, his grip on her hand slowly going slack, and eventually completely limp.
Basu resisted the urge to burst into a full on fit as another one of her precious sons left her. There were still others that needed someone beside them, that needed a nice cup of tea or a decent minced pie or just someone to hold their hand before the lights shut off. She picked up her heavy purse, loaded to the brim with all the little comforts and carefully hidden drugs she could fit into it- almost twenty kilograms- and began looking around the disheveled excuse for a M*A*S*H* tent for the next soul in need.
A bear-like doctor who'd been triaging another patient finished his work and let out a frustrated sigh, looking up and trying not to scream. He saw Basu as she carefully walked around the tent, keeping out of the way of the other medical personnel. "Praise the Forgotten Wood. Mama! Over here!" The human perked up at being called out and scurried over quickly.
She looked down at the soldier the doctor had been treating, most of him was.. Gone. He was some kind of arthropod-analog whose species name she couldn't pronounce, but he was still one of her beloved sons- Srixxir, if she recalled his name correctly. One compound eye twisted itself to look up at her, gently reaching out toward her with a crooked arm that terminated in half as many bristle-haired fingers as it should have normally had. The doctor moved on to the next patient while Basu sat down beside the dying insectoid. She carefully took his hand, ignoring the pain of the bristle-hairs digging into her flesh. "Don't worry, sweetheart. Mama's here.."
"Mama.. Basu.." Srixxir buzzed out, his remaining eye twitching. "Could I.. Could I trouble you for.. One last bite.. Of a.." He didn't even have time to finish making his request before she had one of her minced pies near his triangular mandibles, which began picking at the treat. His absolute favorite food, because she laced his with the nuts from his homeworld that he so loved. Almost as much as he loved this human who followed their army around, providing them with comforts and kindness no matter the danger to herself.
"Tas...t...y..." There was an involuntary shudder, forcing pieces of Srixxir's internal anatomy out through the various holes in his midsection, and he began gasping and choking on his own blood, before his body locked up and went still.
Basu flinched as the bristle hairs bit deep into her skin and carefully unwrapped her hand from Srixxir's rapidly cooling corpse. She'd barely finished putting some liquid stitch on her hand when suddenly a body tackled her to the floor, "MAMA, GET DOWN!" Only then did she notice the whistling sound that was rapidly getting c loser, and she clung to the body that was covering hers. The ground shook and quaked when the artillery shell landed, but when she opened her eyes, everything looked to still be intact.
A pseudo-vulpine with almost absurdly long ears looked down at her with a bit of a grin. "It's okay, Mama. We won't let anything happen to you." He wasn't too badly injured, one of the walking wounded, and he helped her to her feet once the danger had passed.
She ran a hand along the dirty, bloodstained fur of his cheek, smiling back at him, and then proceeded to straighten out his uniform a bit. He might be a junior officer, but he was still an officer, and it wouldn't be proper if he didn't look the part. "Thank you, Krybel. Here.. I made a pork cutlet hand pie, just for you."
The vulpine's eyes gleamed as he resisted the urge to tear into it like a starving pup . After three weeks of shit MREs, one of Basu's hand pies was like a gift from the Gods themselves. He savored every last crumb of it while watching her walk off, looking for the next soul in need.
"Mama.. Mama, where are you??" Came another frightened voice that was starting to crack, making Basu turn toward it on reflex, heart breaking all over again. She hefted up her purse and adjusted the strap.
"Mama's coming, dear, I'll be right there!" She patted Krybel's cheek again, "Take care of yourself sweetie, will you? I'll see you later." And then she began trotting off, moving on to provide the care that only she could.
A senior officer frowned while watching as Basu wandered around his M*A*S*H* unit, providing palliative care. "Lieutenant." He said with a bit of a growl in his voice, looking at Krybel. "Pray tell, who authorized a civilian in my thrice-damned abattoir? Why has she not been removed? Why are you eating one of those damned.. ..delicious..." the officer took a moment to wipe a little drool from his mouth, "...pies?"
Krybel looked up at the officer- a major, probably in charge of the whole camp- and cooly regarded him. "With all due respect to your rank, Major, sir- we want her here and I'm sure that the medical staff has cleared her. Though even if they haven't, I'm going to warn you now, sir- if you even think about trying to take away Mama Basu, you'll be the next one who needs her attention." His face suddenly went from soft and fluffy- if dirty- and went to the hard, stony glare of a predator. "We need her. Allow me to offer the suggestion of, instead of worrying about her, you could focus on something slightly more important. Supply forms, maybe."
The major frowned at this not so subtle threat, but he couldn't lie- at least with her around, there was a little less screaming, so that palliative care was definitely not a waste. And you know, supply forms didn't sound like such a tedious task at the moment.. It was going to be such a long day.

2024.05.20 00:11 LoaderLemon AITA For asking that my roommate to clean up dog waste, in response to her asking me to stop smoking.

I am going to be as up front and honest about this situation in an effort to get the most honest judgement I can. I [M25] moved in with my roommate [F28] about 9 months ago. We talked on Facebook Marketplace, and I came to view the place and meet her dog. Her dog is very nice, and I have always had pets, so I was of course okay with moving in with an animal. I also mentioned to her that I smoke marijuana, to deal with my depression. When I informed her that I smoked before moving in, she said it was okay, as she often smoked at times too, though she smoked hookah. I am located in California, where the drug is legal, HOWEVER, our apartment complex is no smoking. At the time, I only smoked outside, and would do so after work and the gym, after eating.
When moving in, I rented a steam cleaner from Home Depot to clean the carpets, as there were several stains, I cleaned the whole living room, and my own room. As mentioned above, I would smoke on the back patio, but then the dog started to use the bathroom on the floor right in front of the doorway outside. She would occasionally put out pee pads, but they were often covered and would stay that way for a while, soaking through the carpet below, so I started to smoke in my room. I would smoke with the window on, and a fan pointed at the window.
After a bit of time, she asked me to smoke outside again, and made the claim that it was making the dog sick. This was despite her smoking hookah in front of the dog with her friends. Admittedly, after she complained, she stopped smoking hookah entirely. I said that I would smoke outside if she would clean up the dogs mess that was in the way of getting out, and she told me that I knew I was moving in with a dog when I moved in, and that I should just step over it, or not smoke at all.
I understand that the apartment is non smoking, and that she had stopped smoking as well, so I said that I would stop smoking all together in the apartment at all, including outside, if she would clean up the dogs mess so that I could sit in the living room and not have to smell it, but she remained vigilant on the fact that "I moved in with a dog so I should have expected it". When I asked her if she could leave the back door open for the dog to use the restroom outside, she said that he might eat something that will make him sick out there. She will leave him at home for the whole day while she works, and he is trained to use the bathroom on the floor.
I found out from the leasing office that she has had 12 roommates over the course of 5 years, and she yelled at me to find another roommate and move out, which I am happy to do. As a kicker, during this screaming match, she not only threw a dog toy at me (was a soft plush, no injury), and told me to "never acknowledge the dog again", which I was fine to do, but seems like... brutal to the dog who had no involvement in any of this.

2024.05.20 00:10 InevitableGrowth7958 Help w/ SAP Appeal Letter

URGENT!!!
Financial aid officers, please look at my letter and let me know if it is appeal acceptance worthy, and what changes I should make that'll benefit my chances. I have placed underscores on specifics for privacy reasons.
SAP Appeal Letter
Dear Student Finance Appeal faculty, staff, and team,
I hope this summer break has been warm and smooth sailing for you. It has come to my attention that I do not meet the “Satisfactory Academic Progress” and I may become ineligible for student financial aid. This would be because of my record of withdrawing or failing classes these past fall and winter semesters, causing my inability to reach the 67% of hours needed to fulfill. In this letter, I plan to openly express my reasons for failing to meet your standards and how I plan to meet and strive to reach even further in hopes of your kindness and consideration.
On ____________ a Friday night, my family and I became victims of a major car accident. Thankfully my family was left with only deep bruises and cuts. However, on my end, I needed major surgery ______ due to having a displaced, femoral shaft fracture. I missed out on almost a month of school, just months before my high school graduation. Two months later, I visited the ______________________'s campus to decide on where to attend university. Initially, I thought that my healing progression would be manageable by the time I started the fall semester, but I was wrong. My physical therapy, which should’ve been a 1-year journey, was cut down to only three months because I decided to participate in ________(Summer Classes in person at school ). Because of the school’s elevated campus, filled with endless stairs and uphill walking, I was left with painful and energy-draining walks to classes for the entirety of my first semester. It came to a point where the pain and mental distress made it extremely difficult to attend my classes, therefore where my decision to drop classes came in.
During winter break, I had a follow-up check-up with my orthopedic doctor, where I discovered that I had refractured my femur due to my physical activity on campus. He advised that I avoid stress on my leg, which was impossible. Again, this led to difficulty in fully attending and focusing on my courses during the winter semester. Some classes were easier to reach than others, such as walks to ______________where the walk is mostly flat, compared to a walk to_______________, where I’d have to walk uphill and go over several sets of stairs, which led to the downfall of my grades. The pressure of being a student abroad while also being someone whom people back home have high expectations of, my performance led to a decline in my mental health.
Due to these reasons, I decided to retake the dropped courses this Summer through ________________ since they are online. I’m also pushing my admission to the nursing program by a semester to catch up on classes and improve my GPA. To further ensure that my academic performance will not be interfered with moving forward, I’ve just recently gotten checked, and now I am 100% healed according to my doctor. This means that I should have no more physical trials holding me back from achieving academic success from now on. I’ve discussed my academic plan with my advisor, and she is quite understanding of my situation and supportive of the way I wish to go through my academic career. As a student studying at ________________ to only achieve a nursing associate, it is difficult to reach a certain number of credits without being a part of the nursing program because of the small number of classes needed. So, I kindly ask for your patience as I gradually increase my credits and improve my academic performance to meet your standard academic progress. My family is still in the process of paying the bills that we’ve been charged with since the accident, so my financial aid is extremely crucial to aiding in our financial situation. I kindly ask you to please consider my appeal.
Along with the appeal form and this letter, I’m providing documentation that proves my integrity and proof of my medical statements.

2024.05.20 00:07 Late-Law7437 Child Support and paternity fraud

Where do I begin. For the purpose of this post, I will use fictious names and locations as it is ongoing, and out of respect (even though she doesn't deserve any)
My name is Daniel. I am 35 years old, and i am dying. I have a disease called systemic sclerosis. I am currently on a supplemental disability plan, until I get approved for SSI (social Security). Until then, my income is about 4K a month. I own a home but after child support and bills, NOT INCLUDING gas, food, haircuts, medical appointments, and or emergencies like my fridge just broke. (which i never go out) I am left with $260 that has to last me a month. I also have three children who I have to take care of half the time per the 50/50 agreement.
Recently, I found out my oldest, (who is 13) is not biologically mine. I decided to look into it as I had concerns for a while since my divorce as her cheating was very rampant. I also had caught her in 2017 with a man in my house, which is what prompted the divorce. But FL being a no fault state, doesn't matter. I also had to pay child support since the beginning and WHILE LEGALLY Married since 2010 because she had applied for financial support like food stamps and government assistance then. I know what your thinking. Why didnt you stop it then? I tried. You cant take yourself off child support. I also never grew up with a father and wanted that two-parent household. I don't run from responsibilities, like he did. Its how I was raised. Anyways, I married her, tried to do the right thing, she lied numerous times. she never worked, and I worked 90 plus hours a week. To look into her cheating, was impossible at the time as I was never home. and to busy providing for my family.
fast forward to now. My disease started to become worse and over three years; it didn't reveal itself until last year fully to actually pinpoint what this was. for instance, I had in 2019 pain behind my eyes and horrible headaches to the point that I thought I had MS. following year, I had trouble swallowing for 3 months. next year itching in the skin for three months. But prior, I had visited various doctors to see what was going on, each time a flare up then would last 3 to four months, which again, when you don't understand what's going on, you need to take time off to go see doctors, run tests, but this illness was and still is very elusive. with that being said I had 5 jobs since its first flare up till last year to continue to support my family and to pay child support. as of last year. I'm having trouble moving on certain days, breathing and acid reflux and muscle atrophy. (disease progression) especially when this is going on, it worsens everything as this is flared up. I was working under the table to try and make ends meet as I was paying child support still. I should add that the child support with 50/50 custody was $1029 for three kids cause I was making six figures at the time of divorce in 2018. Last year however, I couldn't work anymore, and filed for disability.
In june of last year, I had asked Susan, to get the children school supplies, (which she never does) as I was still paying at the time $1029 in child support. She said she didnt have the money despite now making 70k and her new BF living with her and is working whom she cheated on me with. With me working under the table, I bought them clothes, haircuts, school supplies (ive done every year) but then, I noticed she went on vacation to puerto rico and got a giant leg tattoo. At the time, I had already known what I had, and I asked myself why the heck am I doing this? So i turned to an attorney to get it modified. Again, this is June 20th to be exact of last year. My lawyer, stated that this was only going to be a 90 day turn around for the temporary modification then we will go for the final.
Since then, I have gone for a DNA test. I had to know. I am dying. I wanted to know. And you may judge me for this. but i have filed for disablement for paternity, meaning I am removing myself from the birth certificate. However, in the state of Florida, a mother can deny this and so can the courts. before you judge me, I have many reasons none of which have to do with him other then his mental disability (Aspergers) This illness, as days go by takes more and more from me. As previously aforementioned, I am left with 250 a month. I cannot go get a drs appointment pay for groceries or start planning my funeral which I will start making payments on soon. He also eats three times the amount that we all collectively do (Not his fault) but I have paid enough both mentally and financially. He also has trouble communicating as my suspicions is, that he was born of incest (gross) which is why I was 'chosen' to be his father at the time. Before you ask how do you know? Lets just say she had an uncle 'leave' during that time.
anyways, in February, I had the temporary modification hearing for child support and needless to say it was a circus. My doctor was subpoenaed to be there by my attorneys request to better my argument, even though I felt we didn't need her, she advised me to have my doctor there. Well, he attorney attacked my doctor and me for an hour and 40 mins when the court case was only supposed to go for an hour. He said "you saw another dr Max so and so and they said it was all in your head" (again I had flare ups on a illness that hadnt revealed itself correctly since last year). So there argument was that I was doctor seeking to avoid child support. After I have paid for 13 years never missing a payment. Her lawyer also targeted people who are living with me. Now I'll admit that I said they were friends which is true but how else can I pay for my attorney? Cant work, cant sell drugs, cant rob a bank? So they want to take there income into consideration. BS. She also hired a private investigator to watch me exercise outside and stated that because I can exercise, I can work..... Ok. Where's the 23 hours of the rest of the day watching me in pain. or when do you have me on video of a flare up from this terminal illness? (that's what I wanted to say)
Although I was granted the temporary modification, of $209, I left the court thinking wow, this woman can cheat, commit paternity fraud, not give two craps about our children, live with her mom in a section 8 home, and here I am doing whatever I can and I've done nothing wrong but be lied to and this is how my government, my country treats me? No wonder men my age dont have children this is insane. The paternity issue wasn't even brought up they said that this isnt the place for this and that the disestablishment will be another trial for those wondering. My lawyer only spoke for 5 mins. Asking her about her income cause thats the only thing that has changed since 2018 since she didnt work at the time. Other than that, it was an attack on me and my disease arguing my ability to work.
after leaving that, I didnt eat for 96 hours. I have since been crying nonstop. Compilating suicide. I am already heart broken about my son not being mine. Sure does a terminal illness make me said, no question everyday. But a life wasted on another? Cause I decided to be a man and take up responsibility? thats soul crushing. And to say "well, there is a big chance the courts will deny your request' thats BS. If i go to prison because I was accused of a robbery for 13 years, and DNA evidence proves I wasnt there, I get out of jail and can sue. This is no different. If anything, DNA evidence needs to be more of a factor in family law than in almost every court of law if not as equally important. My bad for not investigating her infidelity not only in the beginning but also in the end. How about not being a POS. sorry rant over
gets better. Her mom and dad smoke in the section 8 house, kids reek of cigarette smoke and marijuana, all day. they dont take showers there, they were hand me down clothes, they live in the garage shared with there mother, that isn't air conditioned. and he makes only a few thousand less than I do a month. She stated in court that she pays her mom $500 in rent which is BS, she is only doing that now so that she makes herself look bad. I know she is doing pills, like oxy and what not. Id love to prove it.
after the temp hearing, in april, I had to go to court to contest my drivers license suspension as I hadn't paid child support since, august of last year. again, there is no way, I can pay my bills, feed my children, go to the doctor, pay my lawyer to end all of this BS and pay the current child support amount. and again, this final hearing is still not set yet. So they intercepted my tax return, even though the temporary modification was approved, the final is what gets it retro backed to the date of filing, so they took, a much needed 5500 tax return from me. I needed that cause one of the issues I failed to mention as well, hurricane Ian has destroyed my home and I'm still going through that process too. not to mention I am on payment plans with Mayo clinic and other various medical facilities. (no one cares) but the interest that accrues, makes it impossible to catch up. also, Florida department of rev is overstepping I feel, and asking for medical info to be sent to them as well as updated doctors letters to be sent saying that I am still on disability.
a few weeks ago, I got an email from my lawyer having a withdrawal notice from her lawyer. in the withdrawal, he stated that he cannot represent her, due to something she may have withheld or lied about (more or less wasn't worded like that but you can tell). In feb court appearance they never produced the PI report, or videos, they had medical info they shouldn't have had, and they had very outlandish comments about my lifestyle. So my lawyer filed immediately a motion to compel. meaning, we want to see everything you have on my client. this was filed almost immediately after court appearance on feb 20th. Susan has failed to provide any updated info requested by my attorney so on june 18th, we have that upcoming hearing.
in the mean time, I have sent my lawyer, a very heavily requested topics, such as "where did they get my medical records, if those were lies, what are the consequences if any"? What did exercising have to do with any of this despite various drs saying he has to or he will get worse.
I know wat you must be thinking, what about your oldest, how can you do that to him. Please listen. This woman has taken everything from me. And i mean everything but the roof over my head. I am seeing a therapist to help with the suicidal thoughts. it isnt enough. the reality of it is, I chose to be loyal and it bit me in the butt. This disease will rob me of everything, my teeth will fall out ( I had 5 cavities last time I went to the dentist) I haven't had a cavity since I was 30 and even then I was suspicious. And I am brushing 5 time s a day to save them. My skin is tightening, and my arms and muscles are wasting. I will literally be left with nothing. My organs will also start to harden, and I will have to start getting around the clock care.
I forgot to mention they (child support) recently, sent a letter to SSI (social security) saying that they would garnish my SSI before I even got it, totaling $1029. the incorrect amount. I sent this to my lawyer and she is looking into it. But it shows that child support will overstep and breaks every law or freedom you may think you have. I DO take care of my children. if they need a haircut i do it, school supplies clothes, anything I do it. And I do it, cause she wont. What I want to leave you with, is that woman can be dead beats too. Child support was designed to have woman off of government subsidized programs like section 8 food stamps and what not. Also to make the man pay for their children man or woman I should say, I know this. I am not running from my obligation. I just want Susan, to have to pay for what's she's done to me and the kids.
I would like to hear your thoughts on this, please comment and share, all names are fake, but everything else is unfortunately real. I know it was wordy, but I wanted to provide as much backstory as possible. And please. Respect my descions. When you are end of life, I hope someone would be kind enough to respect yours. You may not agree and that's ok, but I am asking you to respect them. Thank you for reading.

2024.05.20 00:06 escorts_getslewed Was (Drake) Aubrey Graham at the time put in a wheelchair as punishment from the writers why did the writers choose Jimmy ????

Look yea the guy who played Rick was a good actor and time stands still part 1 & 2 is peak degrassi and probably the most popula hot the show ever been/ will be but I can’t help but wonder why did they choose Aubrey to get shot ? Something that has been bothering me now that I’m older and watch childhood shows with a different perspective why did they have to choose the only black guy to get shot but what gets me even more angry is immediately after Rick goes to Sean and Sean wrestles the gun out of Ricks hand why did the writers write Sean to be a superhero yet they wrote Jimmy to run ??? What would make Sean more likely to wrestle the gun out Ricks hand then Jimmy they were both pretty athletic teens… you think that’s enough nope they had to throw salt on the wound a couple seasons after writers write Jimmy to be a Virgin to me it looks like he pissed a certain writer off and they gave him the short end of the stick they wrote Craig as some rockstar that hooked up with every girl but write Jimmy as Virgin who was paralyzed running from a nerd covered in paint in feathers… I know James Hurst one of the writers claims Aubrey (Drake) had his legal team send him a letter that said unless they heal Jimmy and have him walking again he will not return the writer called Aubrey to the office and even though Aubrey denied having the letter sent he said being in the wheelchair had bothered him because his fellow rapper peers in the rap game was making fun of him and calling him soft… Ngl I would be pretty pissed at the writers if I was Aubrey re watching degrassi and I just feel like there’s a writer who had it out for Aubrey everyone says the shooting was written so well and perfect no it wasn’t what sense does it make Jimmy runs while ricks eyes closed yet Sean becomes Spider-Man or Superman and grabs the gun out Ricks hand if you look at this writing and ignore the nostalgia you’ll see the writers hating on Aubrey tbh if I was Drake I don’t think I would look fondly of my times at Degrassi not only did the writers treat me like garbage apparently the actors wasn’t even getting paid and recently the actor who played spinner was seen doing Uber and when Drake first came out rapping he did many interviews saying the Degrassi salary wasn’t anything life changing I honestly think he only did the im upset video because he could control it without the writers and finally get revenge on Rick he played it off like a reunion but his real intentions was getting revenge lmk what you guys think
