I started by dimming the north-facing windows, slowly enough to merely catch Kregorim's attention; he responded by turning his head to face them and letting his bushy eyebrows rise a bit, but generally keeping a neutral stance. Then, I animated a glowing white dot appearing on the duskward wall at roughly chest-height to my new visitor, then extending it vertically into a line, then expanding it laterally into a door. Then, I let my avatar open it 'from his side', walk through, and close it again.
“I'm called Joachim,” I said, animating the avatar's mouth to match my movements, along with rubbing the back of his head with his left hand. “And I have to say that that spell of yours was... an interesting experience.”
Kregorim nodded and offered a stiff bow. “Then we would seem to have been equal partners in the exchange,” he answered, the barest trace of a twinkle in what I could pick up of his eyes; if he had anything like a smirk under that thicket of facial hair, I couldn't detect it. “So, are there any other introductions to be made? Exchanges of oaths or demands for sacrifices, things of that nature?”
I chuckled, and pointed at the fabricators behind him. “Introductions, certainly. No sacrifices of baubles or blood, if that was what you expected. But I'd advise you to get some practice in making your own furniture. It'll take a bit of explaining, even if I try to trim it down.”
Kregorim nodded, and this time I could definitely hear a chuckle in his voice. “I would be highly disappointed were that not the case, Joachim of the mysterious outpost,” he answered. He gestured at the fabricators. “Would you mind offering a weary old scholar some assistance with these marvelous machines?”
I animated the avatar nodding, then waving at the walls. “You may have noticed that the chambers in which your...” the avatar coughed into one hand, then continued, “... Lord Zortemos Egenor Lignignory the Fourth has been settling have those empty frames on the walls of each room?” The avatar pointed off to one side, and a simplified version of the baseline model of the communication-screens appeared a handsbreadth away from his finger. “I can see and hear through them, and they have other functions as well, but this unit specifically includes the fullest expression of the tool.”
With that, I 'jumped' the avatar onto the dawnward wall of the utility room, releasing another light coughing sound to let Kregorim know where 'he' had gone. “This way, at least, I won't need to raise my voice so it carries further...”
Kregorim turned out to be a very quick study. I walked him through designing some new clothes, starting from the base model of a Chinese scholastic robe but incorporating a three layers of lighter fabric in something more akin to a Japanese kimono. Yes, I helped him figure out some more practical forms of undergarments, and the very concept of 'elastic' fascinated him; I left a mental note to explore 'latex' and the organic sources thereof with him at some later point. And, of course, getting to the first pair of suitable 'house slippers' presented no challenge at all.
Still, I satisfied his curiosity about the need for five 'magic trunks' in rather short order, and once he got into his own set of 'wondrous finery' he tossed his 'traveling robes and unmentionables' into the 'laundry' trunk. Once he'd gotten the remaining machines programmed for things like a camp-cot and bedding, a chair and writing desk and a samovar of all things, I sort of walked him through the rest of the unit's features.
“Quite an array of tankards,” he commented, in the kitchen. “Stocked well enough to entertain guests of a stature from Orks all the way down to Gnomes, unless I'm very much mistaken.”
I animated the avatar nodding. “I'll need to explain more about that, but you and the rest of the group aren't my first guests.”
He nodded, and turned to face the avatar; his smile was wide enough to re-arrange the forest of his facial hair. “I'll try to keep from disappointing Lord Zee overmuch on the point,” he said, then turned to face the refrigerator. “Another magic trunk?” he asked, examining it without touching it. “Wider than the others... does this one produce foodstuffs?”
“Not produce them, as such, but it does serve as a 'cold well', of sorts. The upper section keeps things moderately cool, the lower section keeps them frozen.”
That got another look of wonder out of him. “You can maintain ice in there, without magic?” he asked, pulling out the freezer-drawer and confirming it for himself. “What manner of foods are these?” he went on, examining the squared, shrink-wrapped blocks and rounded tubs.
“Soups, meats, and vegetables, for the most part. The rounded tubs are sort of an experiment for a dessert.”
“I don't suppose you could allow a hungry traveler something a bit more substantial?”
“You skipped past the cold box,” I pointed out. “I've been experimenting with various kinds of meats as well as vegetable dishes...”
“Soups of some sort...?” he asked, closing the freezer-drawer and opening the refrigerator. He paused, visibly confused, before extracting one of the wrapped and sealed 'meal bowls', turning it to examine it from three different angles, then replacing it to examine another, and then another. Finally, he selected one and turned to face the avatar. “The lid has markings resembling words, but I cannot say with confidence that I comprehend them precisely,” he said. “What is meant by... 'Pasta Salad Experiment Number 8'... if you don't mind?”
The avatar pointed. “The silverware you'll probably want is in the second drawer from the end,” I said. “As far as your question is concerned, I have... several different kinds of farms in the spaces below the living quarters up here on the surface, and a rather large library of information from my home that permits me to make approximations of a small but growing number of food.” I added a slight blush to the avatar's cheeks. “I have no capacity to taste or smell things, at least as you or the others might, so I have no idea whether you'll find it appetizing. All I can tell you is that I have a limited stock of various spices in the cabinet just to the right of this box, which is known as a 'refrigerator' in my language. If you feel the need to repay me for my hospitality, you're welcome to help me learn the names for the spices while we talk.”
Kregorim devoured the first salad, admitting between bites that the Lignignory family's exit from the Ducal lands to the south had been somewhat hurried and therefore their dining-experiences had been something of a gamble. “We've managed to trade for many things as we head north,” he commented. He had figured out how to get clean drinking water from the kitchen sink into an Ork-scaled flagon without much prompting, and after swallowing five mouthfuls proceeded to turn his attention to the salad. I explained the basic ingredients and principles of 'pasta', as he considered a segment of neo-rotini on his fork. He ate it, a thoughtful expression on his face, eventually dubbing it 'surprisingly flavorful'.
From there, I walked him through an explanation of the 'dish washer' and 'stove' before guiding him through a simple tour of the rest of the house. The bathroom intrigued him, but he expressed even greater fascination with the barbecue on the back patio, especially the 'fuel pellets' I provided in sealed bags from one of the lower shelves.
“Why bother with such means, when these other amazing machines can cook food with greater precision?” he asked.
“My function, the reason I exist, is to help people recover from disasters,” I answered, when he came back inside from admiring the stonework of the patio handrails. “If they happen to be more comfortable cooking their own food over a fire, I want to help them do so. Hence, the cookfire station out there. It's called a 'barbecue grill' in my language, by the way.”
“...'Your language'...” he repeated, returning to the main room and settling down into his chair with a flagon of water in his right hand. “You've also mentioned 'your home' at least once in my hearing. May I ask where you come from?”
Hoo, boy. Tough questions...
“I'm from a lot further away than you might think, to begin with,” I explained. The avatar pointed south with his right hand, in the general direction of one of the four moons glowing in the sky. “For one thing, I'm from a place with only one moon.” The avatar tapped 'his side' of the wall with the other, and an equatorial-perspective image of Earth showing North and South America along with a portion of Antarctica down at the bottom. “This is a special kind of illusion, showing details of my home from far above its surface,” I explained.
Kregorim's eyes widened and he took a long pull from his flagon. “Seas, forests, deserts, mountains, wintry wastelands,” he murmured, attention moving from one detail to the next, until finally he straightened up in his chair. “... None of the lands with which I have knowledge appear here,” he stated. “And I suspect that this globe's other face will reveal similar mysteries.”
I animated the avatar shrugging. “Likely.”
I considered my next words very carefully. “Since I arrived here, 24 days ago, I have watched the heavens as best I can. From what I have discerned, the local star... or your sun... is measurably different than mine. I haven't been able to pick out any local planets yet, but I can say for certain that if any of the stars in your sky are the ones my people had cataloged, they're too far away for me to positively identify as such.”
Kregorim took that in, eyebrows twitching, and drained his flagon dry. He took it away from his mouth with a scowl, directed at the offending drinkware, but reduced its intensity before turning back to address the avatar. “I don't suppose you've managed to produce anything like a good strong ale since you've arrived?” he asked. “Our own supplies of such things are unlikely to be fit for drinking.”
I animated the avatar raising an eyebrow and waggling a finger. “I've none available, alas, though I do have some rather promising teas,” I told him. “You'll need to fabricate a teapot, though.”
He got up and proceeded to do so. As he did, I continued, “As far as your assessment of whatever ale you've managed to carry with you, I would ask you to ask the servants to pour whatever portion of it they wish to discard into the nearest convenient sink. Hopefully, you'll be able to get the word to them before they reach that stage of unloading.”
The avatar flicked the image of Earth away, then tapped 'his side' of the wall four more times. With each one, a new visual-window opened: one displaying the view just outside the foyer, another the main stairwell from the camera on the half-step just above the second-floor landing, the third the first-floor walkway (identifiable as such by the view of Lord Zee bustling in and out of the doorway to 'his' quarters, giving directions to the flow of 'servants') and the final one the view of the ground-floor walkway.
Up among the caravan, Thusarrel acted as a kind of traffic-director, guiding groups of servants with gestures and shouts to one wagon after another, in an order that made no particular sense to me. The 'flackaroos' stayed in the center, managed by three ragged-looking folk who seemed to know what they were doing; they also hurried to rake up any droppings as quickly as possible, out of the foot-traffic of the flow of servants carrying as mismatched a collection of luggage, furniture, decor and miscellany as ever came out of an estate sale. Kregorim's wagon remained mostly ignored, though the stair-steps remained down.
On the main staircase, Adallinda and Pippa made their way downward, the 'lady' scowling at the lines of servants passing her in both directions and flowing around her too-wide dress as smoothly as possible. Pippa guided her charge to frequent rest stops on the half-landings, sparing a moment here and there to nod back at the silent looks of gratitude from the luggage-bearing people.
“You're certain that my greedy brothers have both gone for the chambers adjacent to my father's, Pippa?” Adallida demanded.
Her servant nodded once, then offered her hand to help steer the young lady back into the flow of foot-traffic. “Of course, my lady, “ she answered. “They both wish for the honor of being physically closest to your father's chosen quarters, though your cousin and sister
On the first-floor view, from the camera opposite the service staircase and now pointing toward the lobby, I just caught a glimpse of Bhiocasaid shepherding Zoti into the second 'double unit' on the first floor, Yera and Totra actually holding the somnambulent Zoti while Bhiocasaid held off Nehdud and Haruinn as they protested the two ladies staking their claim ahead of the 'more worthy young lords' of the family.
“We're not sharing quarters with you beasts, and that's simply that!” she shouted at them. “If you want your own choice of suitable quarters, you'd better get down to the ground-floor and claim one before Adallinda does!”
The boys blinked at her, then looked at each other. Nehdud spun on his heel and raced back to the cliff-face lounge area, shoving his way through the flow of servants. I winced as I watched him making half-hearted goo-goo eyes and kissy-faces at whichever of them had obviously female shapes under their travel-rags. The female servants burdened with effects, even boxes the size of filled shopping bags that couldn't possibly require two people to hold, found themselves getting extra help to disguise both women's use of the item in question as a makeshift shield against his efforts. However slowly he was moving, though, he still made faster progress than Haruinn could possibly manage.
Adallinda's voice rang out from below, shrieking in triumph. Through the final view-window, Kregorim and I observed as she managed to slap her hand on the not-glass biometric scanner next to the door to the lower double-unit, Pippa now holding the sweating lady up and maneuvering her through the door, a line of six servants carrying baggage behind them.
Nehdud pushed through the line of servants to stand in front of the handrail, slamming his fist on the stone with one hand and snarling. Then he turned to look at Haruinn, noting his near-complete lack of movement, and his rage turned to a grin. He waved at his rival for the remaining double-suite, then resumed his efforts to force his way through the flows of servants.
Haruinn clenched his fists, until Midmolk pointed at the 'service stairway' just next to the now-claimed double-unit. “Their position matches something similar on the door below, master,” he pointed out.
Haruinn nodded, clanking his way to them at best possible speed, Midmolk following with the tower-shield. The Lignignory male slapped his hand on the palm-scanner; I granted him temporary access, mostly because I wanted to see if he could possibly beat that smarmy Nehdud if he had a clearer path. The young man succeeded in surprising me by gesturing at Midmolk, who handed him the tower-shield. He proceeded to ride it down the two half-flights of stairs like a sled, scraping the heck out of the finish and arriving at the ground-floor before Nehdud made it all the way through the lobby.
Haruinn pushed himself to his apparent limit, huffing and red-faced, as he quick-marched with all of that extra metal on his front to reach the palm-scanner and slap his hand on it.
Just as Nehdud threw open the door from the ground-floor lobby to see him do it.
The knife-burdened man strode into his doorway while Nehdud sank to his knees with a frustrated scream.

I met her through mutual friends that I have stayed friends with until now, they all knew each other way before I transferred to that high school and seemingly had a great friendship with each other. My girlfriend has always been the shy and quiet type of person, doesn't really talk unless spoken too and keeps herself reserved. Her friends brought out the best in her in my opinion and when she got comfortable with me she was a little less shy but still reserved and quiet.
Among these friends we had was Carly(19F) and Sugar(20F). My girlfriend and Carly had a big fallout during the pandemic but both agreed that it wasn't fair for me to be dragged into their fight, So upon my girlfriend's wishes I stayed friends with Carly. Recently I had to deal with a lot of family problems and stress from college so I decided to take a break from my social media to focus on my exams and whatnot. Upon the first week after I had told everyone this though Sugar had confronted my girlfriend about supposedly their friendship falling apart.
My girlfriend would text me during the span of their talks saying how stressed she was about the situation and that they couldn't find any common ground between the two of them. The talks going on between them lasted for about a month until my girlfriend decided that she couldn't salvage the friendship anymore. Through the course of this argument they've been having my girlfriend would come to me asking if she was in the wrong and I would explain to her that I wasn't really in a position to tell her what was right or wrong with the situation, I didn't understand the extent of what they were even fighting about and could only offer her reassuring words that she could work this out in the end. I didn't want my opinions to sway her in any way and she said she respected that. And then she asked me if I wanted to hear her side of the story. I told her that I wasn't really comfortable with that because the conflict was already over and there would be no point in telling me her side since I wasn't really involved in the problem between them and that I didn't want to get into this conversation again, Since as I said this conflict lasted them a month and I've only been there to comfort my girlfriend through it all.

One part that made me the most uncomfortable was Sugar bringing up the trauma my girlfriend had with her old friend and using it to compare their situations. I didn't interrupt her, I just closed my phone and went on with my day, all throughout she would send me message after message.
After a few hours of the notifications stopping I figured she was done with everything she had to say. Upon opening the messages I read through all of them carefully, I noticed a bunch of things she mentioned in passing that my girlfriend told me in detail. Things like she only brought up her trauma briefly when in reality my girlfriend told me about the paragraphs she received of Sugar comparing their current situations with her pass trauma. At the end of the messages she told me she wanted to hear my thoughts about the situation. I'm not a very emotionally intelligent person, I'm almost an airhead when it comes to things like this. So rather than tell my thoughts I told her to just accept the fact that no matter how many times she tells other people about this she'll have to move on eventually.
I've always been someone to take things at face value, If someone wants to stop being my friend then there's nothing much I can do in my opinion. I'm guessing Sugar didn't see the world the same way as after I had said that she started to rip into me, Telling me that It's my fault my girlfriend's friendships keep failing is because I wasn't steering her in the right path, and That because I didn't sway her with my opinion that she ended up choosing the wrong choice. That it was my responsibility and I could have done something to change the outcome of this situations.
I was honestly just baffled at this conclusion that I told her I needed some time to be alone and reflect on all of this. When I would ask my friends for their perspective on this situation and if it really was my responsibility to guide my girlfriend through this argument they said it wasn't my responsibility to tell my girlfriend how to handle her relationships. But I was still very conflicted with myself. I didn't tell my girlfriend about any of this happening, She was also stressing out about applying to colleges at this point and I didn't want to open this fresh wound back up for her to worry about.
I still hang out with my friends and they don't hold any ill intent towards me. Carly invited me onto a discord server so we can all catch up despite our busy schedules and whatnot. It's been about 2 weeks since I've joined that discord server and everything has been fine, but lately Sugar has been going into the chatrooms and venting vaguely about how it wasn't her fault and that she wasn't guilty or feels any regret. Saying that my girlfriend was the one that inflicted that trauma on herself and so on. She doesn't blatantly name drop my girlfriend, but it's very clear exactly who she's talking about.
The other people in the server don't seem to react to this at all. No one has called her out on this and everyone just ignores that it's happening. And as far as I can tell this only started when I joined the server, There are days where I will wake up and she has a new paragraph of just the same things she said the day before , Calling my girlfriend a coward and that it was always about her and how she was faking everything. Upon the advise of my other friends they have told me not to engage with her at all but I still don't know if that's the right decision. My girlfriend is unaware of any of this happening because I refuse to put even more stress on her with a situation where she has clearly moved on from it.

Things like she only brought up her trauma briefly when in reality my girlfriend told me about the paragraphs she received of Sugar comparing their current situations with her pass trauma. At the end of the messages she told me she wanted to hear my thoughts about the situation. I'm not a very emotionally intelligent person, I'm almost an airhead when it comes to things like this. So rather than tell my thoughts I told her to just accept the fact that no matter how many times she tells other people about this she'll have to move on eventually.
I've always been someone to take things at face value, If someone wants to stop being my friend then there's nothing much I can do in my opinion. I'm guessing Sugar didn't see the world the same way as after I had said that she started to rip into me, Telling me that It's my fault my girlfriend's friendships keep failing is because I wasn't steering her in the right path, and That because I didn't sway her with my opinion that she ended up choosing the wrong choice. That it was my responsibility and I could have done something to change the outcome of this situations.
I was honestly just baffled at this conclusion that I told her I needed some time to be alone and reflect on all of this. When I would ask my friends for their perspective on this situation and if it really was my responsibility to guide my girlfriend through this argument they said it wasn't my responsibility to tell my girlfriend how to handle her relationships. But I was still very conflicted with myself. I didn't tell my girlfriend about any of this happening, She was also stressing out about applying to colleges at this point and I didn't want to open this fresh wound back up for her to worry about.
I still hang out with my friends and they don't hold any ill intent towards me. Carly invited me onto a discord server so we can all catch up despite our busy schedules and whatnot. It's been about 2 weeks since I've joined that discord server and everything has been fine, but lately Sugar has been going into the chatrooms and venting vaguely about how it wasn't her fault and that she wasn't guilty or feels any regret. Saying that my girlfriend was the one that inflicted that trauma on herself and so on. She doesn't blatantly name drop my girlfriend, but it's very clear exactly who she's talking about.
The other people in the server don't seem to react to this at all. No one has called her out on this and everyone just ignores that it's happening. And as far as I can tell this only started when I joined the server, There are days where I will wake up and she has a new paragraph of just the same things she said the day before , Calling my girlfriend a coward and that it was always about her and how she was faking everything. Upon the advise of my other friends they have told me not to engage with her at all but I still don't know if that's the right decision. My girlfriend is unaware of any of this happening because I refuse to put even more stress on her with a situation where she has clearly moved on from it.
Am I the Asshole?? I don't know what course of action to take and I could use some advice.

I'm a passionate Christian at heart and all the people around me could care less except my church families of course. I am quite the active person I workout everyday, play a few sports and just like being active. I have yet to find anyone who has similar interests with me. I haven't been looking which could be the cause but at the same time I feel like if I looked I wouldn't find it just like with romantic partners. I've never been anyone's first choice and if I was it was one of those online relationships that was very naive of me to be involved in. People have never really found it fun or nice to talk to me. People don't ask me to hang out. People don't ever text me to just see how I'm doing. I do have one person like that but yet again it's an online relationship. Which makes it so hard for me when my love languages rely so much on physical affection and time spent together in real life.
I feel like the only person who truly loved me and was always there for me and really cared for me was my father. I regret how I treated him and I took him for granted I feel like I could've pushed for him to stop smoking more. I have one thing in life and that is that I have no regrets except one and it's my father. He died in the summer of 2022. I was a senior and my mother worked on her business she has customers but doesn't make anywhere near my father. I started handling all the finances and dealing with all the tax information her business all this legal action during my junior year of high school. My entire summer I spent at home on my computer or with my dad. I wasn't able to practice the sports I enjoyed so greatly. I have no regret in that as it was for my father. Although I guess I'm trying to say that the only person who ever cared for me was my own father. No friends no nothing.
My mother on the other hand became verbally and emotionally abusive. She is still that way however has gotten much better about our relationship and I just feel like I can't truly trust her as her abusive tendencies always come out. She'll yell get mad and do anything to make you feel like a terrible person. She projects so much of her ignorance on you and expects everyone else to fix her problems and "help" her. There's a reason that she has a strained relationship with my dad's side of the family. She's unironically crazy. Luckily my dad's side of the family still loves me and they are always concerned about my well being.
I have all this ambition to do great things and it might sound a little silly but I want everyone to be loved and to forgive. I want to help all those less fortunate however I don't have the power or resources. My mom doesn't make enough money for me to not worry about expenses I sometimes see these people my age specifically my own friends. I pray everyday and I want to love all people unconditionally but man is it hard when you've only ever had one person give you that kind of love and now they're gone forever. "Hi C We have sent you an invitation to R's graduation dinner to your house about two weeks ago but your mom also mentioned she did not receive her invite so we are following up with the info and as well forward this to you. As Aunty, I'm sorry to say if you did receive the card invite that requires rsvp then it is etiquette to give a reply and number attending. Otherwise we take it no attendance and no spot will be prepared for you and family. As you are partially Chinese, the standards and expectations will still apply and be expected. The other part of you is a Filipino community. As all other Asian communities know Filipino they stand alone. They either include or exclude. It is their culture. As Aunty, it's a challenge not only for us to invite your family with no marital status just based on unknown relationships, this is the same with your mom and sister. We had hoped it will be different with you. It's time to take your relationship to a higher level otherwise it will be looking both are taking advantage of each other and now a son with US citizenship status without your marriage. And she has been sending nasty email like this to almost all members of my partner's family talking about stuff like this. I'll follow up with you guys the email she sent to my partner's mom, and other uncles. Every time it happens, we let it slide since we love and respect the uncle and the cousins. At the end, she is still the uncle's wife and the cousins' mother. But this time, it's way cross the line. My partner was so livid he sent the email screen shot to all of his uncles and his mom and ask wtf is this. The uncle had nothing to say but apologize to him and said he didn't know his wife sent this. My partner asked him 'are you going to check your wife out this time or are you just going to let her continue to break our family apart?'. He was silent and said he couldn't do anything. My partner decided to show up at the party and talk to her out of her delulu. And we just did. We show up, she was just smiling up and waving to us like nothing happened. i've encountered some "beings" in my childhood and also later, also have encountered some when my daughter was born. I'm not totally sure if I've been abducted. Last night was strange, really strange. I woke up when the cat jump away from the bed and heard some clicking noises, didn't understand what it was, eventually fell back as sleep, then woke up as the bedroom door opened up and hit the wardrobe doors, my spouse didn't wake up to this, how could i explain it, it was like the door had opened up bcs of a turbulent wind or vacuumsucking effect, and I wake up just before this happened. Wen't up to check my daughter, i couldnt see her but felt her hair in my hand, it was totally black in her room even if the sun had come out allready and there was some smell i've never smelled before in the livingroom next to our bedroom, smelled like electric and sour, not rotten, but bad. I had to check the laptop that was on charging, but nothing, it was just in the air, also thought it was some gas coming from outside, but nothing, it was just in the livingroom and a little in the kitchen-area, but not much there. The door that banged was strange and it wasn't the cat, that I checked. The door and the smell, wth was it? Well, I know nobody can answer this and will prob get some i***ts reply online only, but here it is.

2024.05.20 09:01 PliablePotato A full analysis of HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
This is by far my favorite album from Billie and is slowly becoming my favorite album of the year. I've been through the album many times now and want to share my interpretation of the entire work as I firmly believe it is intentionally cohesive and structured to have an overarching narrative.
Overall, this album is of course about a relationship Billie was in. I do think she wrote these songs about multiple different people but structured it to be cohesive. Each song throughout the album is a step along this journey and either is parallel to, or in direct reference of, the stages of the relationship and her feelings throughout. She leverages a number of metaphors and thematic imagery that's mentioned multiple times throughout the album
SKINNY
On its surface, SKINNY is about her fans, the public and the media and their lack of awareness of her actual mental state (ie they think skinny = happy) . In addition, I view this as her introducing the narrative. This is current Billie reflecting on the relationship and her experiences and setting up the story to "feed the hungry internet". She asks persistently "do you still cry?" knowing that she herself does even after everything she did for this person and "not doing them wrong".
This song sets up 2 important thematic elements first is The Bird/Cage/Trap. While it varies from positive to negative, but ultimately, the theme is a sense of being trapped in the relationship, for better or for worse. I do think that is also is tied to this relationship being with another women and Billie's sexuality. It has a parallel theme to The door which i will discuss later.
The other theme is String Motif which is what ill call the melody and string orchestra that plays at the end of this song. In my opinion, this melody represents the relationship itself and is used 2 other times throughout the album for different purposes. This is personally my favorite thematic element as its beautiful and pays off mid-way through the album.
LUNCH
Lunch is fun, flirty and explicit first step in the relationship. Its Billie and her love interest kicking things off intense and obviously full of passion. In the broader context of the album its the "honeymoon" phase, full of heightened emotions and fun. This may be a stretch, but i do find it fascinating putting a song called LUNCH after a song called SKINNY and i think its a metaphor for her relationship fulfillment and happiness in the moment.
CHIHIRO
Personal favorite on the album. There is a ton of imagery and parallels to spirited away in this song of course that i think Genius and other lyric websites do a decent job of breaking down. I'm going to focus on the context of the album.
CHIHIRO is Billie dealing with some of the likely obvious red flags she noticed immediately as things become more serious. Its Billie trying to reconcile the "fling" that's occurring and it being a potential serious relationship that she needs to invest emotionally in. She has reservations considering the lack of response or commitment from the other person and the theme of space/rest/freedom ("I need to be along, take a break", "cant cope with anymore") as opposed to Billie's lack of sleep / closeness / commitment ("waiting in the garden", "come back around" etc.) (which comes up a few times in the album).
However, Billie ultimately aligns on committing, trusting they'd "show [her] whats in store". This is also the song that introduces The door. This theme, I typically associate with the bird change / trap (which is also mentioned in this song). It represents opening up about their feelings, letting the feelings "out". and letting Billie in. This may be a stretch, but I do wonder if its associated with the other person not feeling comfortable "coming out" in the sense of their sexuality either.
BIRDS OF A FEATHER
Billie is now happy to "stay in the cage" with the person, calling back to the Bird/Cage/Trap theme. Birds of a feather sticking together. The lyric "I dont know why im crying" i think is referring to CHIHIRO, basically "i dont know what I was so worried about this is great" but also she still feels an uneasiness about the whole thing. Billie is willing to spend her whole life (till the day she dies) with this person (or in other words the love of her life).... so she says. Despite the rose colored glasses, Billie starts to sense the cracks in the 2nd verse. "Say you dont see it....Say you wanna quit". Billie is all in at this stage giving everything she's got to try to make this work and just hoping their lack of commitment is "a bit" or them "being stupid". For now, Billie is in love and thats all that matters.
When i first heard this song i kinda thought it was a bit too "cliche" for Billie. However, in this context it feels like shes grasping at straws, trying to find the good, looking past the issues and saying shes in love. It makes future songs like L'AMOUR DE MA VIE hit harder since its basically calling her feelings in this song a lie.
WILDFLOWER
This takes a bit of a detour in my opinion. I think this is more about a previous relationship (though thats of course speculative). I dont want to discuss real people because i dont think it matters. This is a song about her supporting a women through a break up and ultimately dating her ex and the guilt / issues that come along with that. I think narratively, shes looking back on other issues in her past relationships, mistakes she made and ultimately her not speaking up when her feelings were hurt. I have a theory that the women she is supporting is who this album is about (ie she ended up dating both of them which makes these lyrics hit even harder) but thats just speculative.
THE GREATEST
This is a pivot point on the album. Its when Billie "snaps out of it" so to speak and realizes how much she is putting in but how little she is getting out. She expresses this in many different ways, begging for passion and waiting for something to change. Right off the hop Billie mentions again the rest / staying up all night theme of her committing while her partner is allowed space / comfort / coming and going. While it was a simple worry originally in CHIHIRO, it is now officially a problem weighing on her. "Man am i the greatest" is notably sarcastic but also has some truth to it. Its a reflection of regret/shame in terms of just how much time and energy she's put in despite getting nothing ("doing whats best without a reward" "All my love and patience", "...time I waited" etc etc). While not explicitly stated, this is making reference to the Open Door / Trap theme. They never let Billie in / let their emotions out and Billie ended up feeling alone because of it.
This song ends with The String Motif, the same one played at the end of SKINNY. However, this time she is belting it "I loved you, and I still do...Just wanted passion/what i gave you". While its related to the other lyrics, I feel this as "current" Billie screaming through, telling the story that connects us back to SKINNY (and hint hint ultimately to BLUE). This moment is so powerful because it symbolizes her change in perspective but just how much it still weighs on her and upsets her. Its a very important moment in this relationship/album and how she cope's / deals with it. Its probably my favorite moment on the whole album.
L'AMOUR DE MA VIE
I feel like this song is YIN to BIRDS OF A FEATHERs YANG. Basically, she admits that all these feelings were bullshit because she knew there were problems from the beginning. Shes over all of the excuses the person was giving for not committing, opening up etc. They said they "cared" a lot and would be destroyed if she left but they moved on right away. I think its a little over the top like BIRDS OF A FEATHER was but in the opposite direction. She's coping with the hardship she faced and described in THE GREATEST. The back half of this song I just think is her anger coming out about how little time it took for the person to move on, she flings dissses (you were so mediocre) and proclaims, "Its over now".
THE DINER
Im curious what other's think. Obviously on its surface this is about her stalkers and how conniving it is however i do think its connected to the narrative. She mentions trying to save the person which is a theme thats brought up again later. The way i felt is that this is her obsessing over the relationship they moved onto in L'AMOUR DE MA VIE. Shes stalking them trying to figure out what she was missing and how she couldve made it work.
BITTERSUITE
This is a reflection on many dream sequences Billie has about the relationship. Shes not over it, shes on tour overseas now but is still obsessed with it its ("underneath all of her beliefs"). She imagines that she is now desired by the person (the thing that she desperately wanted in THE GREATEST). She admits she hasnt been able to fill the void left since they broke up. She also brings up the theme of not sleeping (despite the dreams). At the end of this song she also brings references back to L'amour dema vie" and "Open up the door for me". Shes dreaming and hoping and fantasizing about how it was, what it could have been and what she wanted. By the end of it she seems to be getting what she wanted... but its unfortunately just a dream. Of course this transitions into BLUE with the same melody at the end and BLUE has coming.
BLUE
Blue closes things off and explicitly connects all of the major themes in the album. She makes direct references to several other songs "Birds of a feather", told you a lie desole (L'amour dema vie), dont know whats in store / open the door (CHIHIRO), in the back of my mind (WILDFLOWER) im still over seas (BITTERSUITE), a bird in a cage (SKINNY). This is her reflecting, accepting and trying to get over it but having difficulty.
The transition in the music and ultimately the lyrics is to her gaining understanding and acceptance for the other person. She's able to cope with the relationship falling apart because of what the other person went through. This provides a different meaning to BLUE. While at first it was her being sad, now its her now ex-partner growing up BLUE (likely not accepted by her parents or a difficult childhood). Billie proclaims "i dont blame you, but i cant change you, dont hate, but we cant save you). Overall, this album is of course about a relationship Billie was in. I do think she wrote these songs about multiple different people but structured it to be cohesive. Each song throughout the album is a step along this journey and either is parallel to, or in direct reference of, the stages of the relationship and her feelings throughout. She leverages a number of metaphors and thematic imagery that's mentioned multiple times throughout the album
SKINNY
On its surface, SKINNY is about her fans, the public and the media and their lack of awareness of her actual mental state (ie they think skinny = happy) . In addition, I view this as her introducing the narrative. This is current Billie reflecting on the relationship and her experiences and setting up the story to "feed the hungry internet". She asks persistently "do you still cry?" knowing that she herself does even after everything she did for this person and "not doing them wrong".
This song sets up 2 important thematic elements first is The Bird/Cage/Trap. While it varies from positive to negative, but ultimately, the theme is a sense of being trapped in the relationship, for better or for worse. I do think that is also is tied to this relationship being with another women and Billie's sexuality. It has a parallel theme to The door which i will discuss later.
The other theme is String Motif which is what ill call the melody and string orchestra that plays at the end of this song. In my opinion, this melody represents the relationship itself and is used 2 other times throughout the album for different purposes. This is personally my favorite thematic element as its beautiful and pays off mid-way through the album.
LUNCH
Lunch is fun, flirty and explicit first step in the relationship. Its Billie and her love interest kicking things off intense and obviously full of passion. In the broader context of the album its the "honeymoon" phase, full of heightened emotions and fun. This may be a stretch, but i do find it fascinating putting a song called LUNCH after a song called SKINNY and i think its a metaphor for her relationship fulfillment and happiness in the moment.
CHIHIRO
Personal favorite on the album. There is a ton of imagery and parallels to spirited away in this song of course that i think Genius and other lyric websites do a decent job of breaking down. I'm going to focus on the context of the album.
CHIHIRO is Billie dealing with some of the likely obvious red flags she noticed immediately as things become more serious. Its Billie trying to reconcile the "fling" that's occurring and it being a potential serious relationship that she needs to invest emotionally in. She has reservations considering the lack of response or commitment from the other person and the theme of space/rest/freedom ("I need to be along, take a break", "cant cope with anymore") as opposed to Billie's lack of sleep / closeness / commitment ("waiting in the garden", "come back around" etc.) (which comes up a few times in the album).
However, Billie ultimately aligns on committing, trusting they'd "show [her] whats in store". This is also the song that introduces The door. This theme, I typically associate with the bird change / trap (which is also mentioned in this song). It represents opening up about their feelings, letting the feelings "out". and letting Billie in. This may be a stretch, but I do wonder if its associated with the other person not feeling comfortable "coming out" in the sense of their sexuality either.
BIRDS OF A FEATHER
Billie is now happy to "stay in the cage" with the person, calling back to the Bird/Cage/Trap theme. Birds of a feather sticking together. The lyric "I dont know why im crying" i think is referring to CHIHIRO, basically "i dont know what I was so worried about this is great" but also she still feels an uneasiness about the whole thing. Billie is willing to spend her whole life (till the day she dies) with this person (or in other words the love of her life).... so she says. Despite the rose colored glasses, Billie starts to sense the cracks in the 2nd verse. "Say you dont see it....Say you wanna quit". Billie is all in at this stage giving everything she's got to try to make this work and just hoping their lack of commitment is "a bit" or them "being stupid". For now, Billie is in love and thats all that matters.
When i first heard this song i kinda thought it was a bit too "cliche" for Billie. However, in this context it feels like shes grasping at straws, trying to find the good, looking past the issues and saying shes in love. It makes future songs like L'AMOUR DE MA VIE hit harder since its basically calling her feelings in this song a lie.
WILDFLOWER
This takes a bit of a detour in my opinion. I think this is more about a previous relationship (though thats of course speculative). I dont want to discuss real people because i dont think it matters. This is a song about her supporting a women through a break up and ultimately dating her ex and the guilt / issues that come along with that. I think narratively, shes looking back on other issues in her past relationships, mistakes she made and ultimately her not speaking up when her feelings were hurt. I have a theory that the women she is supporting is who this album is about (ie she ended up dating both of them which makes these lyrics hit even harder) but thats just speculative.
THE GREATEST
This is a pivot point on the album. Its when Billie "snaps out of it" so to speak and realizes how much she is putting in but how little she is getting out. She expresses this in many different ways, begging for passion and waiting for something to change. Right off the hop Billie mentions again the rest / staying up all night theme of her committing while her partner is allowed space / comfort / coming and going. While it was a simple worry originally in CHIHIRO, it is now officially a problem weighing on her. "Man am i the greatest" is notably sarcastic but also has some truth to it. Its a reflection of regret/shame in terms of just how much time and energy she's put in despite getting nothing ("doing whats best without a reward" "All my love and patience", "...time I waited" etc etc). While not explicitly stated, this is making reference to the Open Door / Trap theme. They never let Billie in / let their emotions out and Billie ended up feeling alone because of it.
This song ends with The String Motif, the same one played at the end of SKINNY. However, this time she is belting it "I loved you, and I still do...Just wanted passion/what i gave you". While its related to the other lyrics, I feel this as "current" Billie screaming through, telling the story that connects us back to SKINNY (and hint hint ultimately to BLUE). This moment is so powerful because it symbolizes her change in perspective but just how much it still weighs on her and upsets her. Its a very important moment in this relationship/album and how she cope's / deals with it. Its probably my favorite moment on the whole album.
L'AMOUR DE MA VIE
I feel like this song is YIN to BIRDS OF A FEATHERs YANG. Basically, she admits that all these feelings were bullshit because she knew there were problems from the beginning. Shes over all of the excuses the person was giving for not committing, opening up etc. They said they "cared" a lot and would be destroyed if she left but they moved on right away. I think its a little over the top like BIRDS OF A FEATHER was but in the opposite direction. She's coping with the hardship she faced and described in THE GREATEST. The back half of this song I just think is her anger coming out about how little time it took for the person to move on, she flings dissses (you were so mediocre) and proclaims, "Its over now".
THE DINER
Im curious what other's think. Obviously on its surface this is about her stalkers and how conniving it is however i do think its connected to the narrative. She mentions trying to save the person which is a theme thats brought up again later. The way i felt is that this is her obsessing over the relationship they moved onto in L'AMOUR DE MA VIE. Shes stalking them trying to figure out what she was missing and how she couldve made it work.
BITTERSUITE
This is a reflection on many dream sequences Billie has about the relationship. Shes not over it, shes on tour overseas now but is still obsessed with it its ("underneath all of her beliefs"). She imagines that she is now desired by the person (the thing that she desperately wanted in THE GREATEST). She admits she hasnt been able to fill the void left since they broke up. She also brings up the theme of not sleeping (despite the dreams). At the end of this song she also brings references back to L'amour dema vie" and "Open up the door for me". Shes dreaming and hoping and fantasizing about how it was, what it could have been and what she wanted. By the end of it she seems to be getting what she wanted... but its unfortunately just a dream. Of course this transitions into BLUE with the same melody at the end and BLUE has coming.
BLUE
Blue closes things off and explicitly connects all of the major themes in the album. She makes direct references to several other songs "Birds of a feather", told you a lie desole (L'amour dema vie), dont know whats in store / open the door (CHIHIRO), in the back of my mind (WILDFLOWER) im still over seas (BITTERSUITE), a bird in a cage (SKINNY). This is her reflecting, accepting and trying to get over it but having difficulty.
The transition in the music and ultimately the lyrics is to her gaining understanding and acceptance for the other person. She's able to cope with the relationship falling apart because of what the other person went through. This provides a different meaning to BLUE. While at first it was her being sad, now its her now ex-partner growing up BLUE (likely not accepted by her parents or a difficult childhood). Billie proclaims "i dont blame you, but i cant change you, dont hate, but we cant save you). This is a form of acceptance but also a reference to THE DINER about trying to save the person, though now its acceptance instead of an attack / blame. Hey guys, I had this tenant who lived in my flat for around 5 years. He evacuated and gave me the keys of my property last year he has still not paid me the rent for three months. My house was totally damaged and was full of rubbish and pigeon shit and eggs as he left the windows open and locked the apartment for around 6 months. Upon receiving the keys I found that he has not taken his sofa, tv cabinet, washing machine and a bed.
I tried reaching out to him several times last year he never picked up my phone. I even tried WhatsApp call and messaged him to take away his dirty stuff as it’s of no use to me and his sofa is full of dirt and occupied too much space and washing machine does not work.
After around eight months in March 2024 he called me and said he will take away his stuff. To which I said pay the remaining dues and please take your stuff. He never showed up.
Yesterday he called me again that he will take his stuff in this month. I do not think he will come. I heard from other neighbours that he told them that he wants to buy my house that’s why he is not taking his stuff.
Also I have moved his Sofa, a bed , tv cabinet and a broken washing machine to my store house.
So my question is how should I deal with this guy? He seems to have political connections. Is there any grounds on which he can sue me? Should I not ask for the due rent and return his stuff?

It's a much lighter color than the usual, and had a very waxy feel to it. The same wax material melted out of the bottom just from being placed on a warm burner, as seen in the second pic. There was no chemical smell or anything, so I'm hoping that it's just the seasoning that came on it. I've never started with a brand new pan and am unsure how to proceed, can I just season it as usual and get cooking, or do I have to do anything different? Thanks all. 🙂 |

I want to cover the kitchen cabinets in contact paper - just the doors and the undersides of the top cabinets, but not the countertop. But ive read contact paper doesn't bode well with wear and moisture - so, has anyone tried to reinforce the contact paper with mod podge? How did it go? In theory, it should help keep moisture from making the edges peel, and increase its scuff-resistance, right?

Not a way I want to start a night shift, but it burned about 2 hours for me, so that's a plus! But, the staff I was relieving, had to cover those 2 hours, as I was the closest thing to a supervisor at the time. I'm sorry bestie!!
I had to hold off on posting about this for a few months, due to any potential legal action our property may have been dealing with, for the incident. I never received any final update, so I think I'm in the clear to share.
Opening scene: it's 10pm, Night Audit (me) arrives, walking thru the lobby to get to their post, silent greetings to other staff, as I walk past guests checking in.
I set my things down in the back office, put on my name tag, chug the caffeine of my choice, and mosey my way up front. The guests that were previously there have gone on their way, and it's just me and 2nd shift staff. Our schedules have a 1 hour layover, so we start chatting about how the days been, and any info I need to know.
20 mins pass
Cue the phone call; 2nd shift picks up, while I start printing paperwork. I overhear my coworker exclaim, "I'm sorry, you saw what now?!" Ears perk up, and I'm listening in, watching my coworkers expressions for any indication if emergency services need to be called, or just send Security to handle it. Their eyes bug out, at whatever the person on the other end of the phone is saying. I hear my coworker ask for a the location of the caller, and the location of the incident; she repeats, "tennis courts, and fitness center lawn." I'm radioing Security to come by the desk, to prepare for whatever is going down; it's about to be shift change, so we happen to have both Security Director (SecDir) from 2nd shift, and 3rd shift Security (SEC) present.
My coworker eventually gets off the phone and informs me, "a member witnessed a van jump over a curb, skid out over the lawn, then drive off towards rooms, on the nature trail. He says that the driver stopped the van, jumped out, then took off towards the residential area, stumbling and clearly intoxicated."
Oh boy! This is not going to be fun. We immediately pass the info to Security, and tell them to go searching for the van, and the driver, if possible. I ask my coworker to call local PD, to ask for assistance; we're gonna need all the help we can get.
While I'm keeping in contact on the radio with Security, I'm also texting the big bosses, keeping them updated on what's happening. Eventually, my coworker gets off the phone, just as the member who had witnessed everything, comes into the lobby, to retell his story. As I'm listening, we get a radio call from SecDir stating she didn't see anything by the fitness center, and SEC also stating he walked a bit of the nature trail, and didn't see the van.
How do you lose a whole ass van?! There's no way this intoxicated individual managed to get back onto property, hop in his van, then take off with it...
I offer to help look, and SecDir says she's going home; SEC goes with me. I grab a flashlight, a radio, and tell 2nd shift, I'll keep her posted, and to let me know when PD gets here; I apologize for her potentially having to stay late.
SEC and I head to the fitness center, and right away, I see tread marks that have completely destroyed the lawn between the lap pool and the tennis courts... SecDir didn't see anything, my ass! She didn't even look. These are very obvious, and hard to miss. Just as I start going to follow the trail made by the treads, PD pulls up, and 4 squad cars are taking off near the residential homes, spot lights on, searching for our intoxicated driver; while 2 other sqaud cars park by the fitness center.
SEC and I waive down the officers, both about my age (20's), and show the the tread marks on the lawn. We have a giggle over how ridiculous the situation seems, and survey the area for any damage, or signs as to wear the van may have ended up. We still can't find it... only damage we find is a broken light fixture, some ruined landscaping, and the obvious lawn. I ask SEC to stay back, and continue talking to the officers, while I walked down one of the guest paths, that leads to some rooms, thinking maybe the member had confused that for the nature trail (the trail circles the whole property, but connects to the guest paths).
The property is 88 acres... we have proof, via the tread marks, the van exists; it has to be somewhere!
As I walk further down the path, I see yet another broken light fixture. BINGO We're on the right path! I continue down, scanning for a path of destruction, to lead me to this mysterious van. Just as I'm asking myself, "how in the 7 Hells did this guy drive this far down? It's so narrow!" I look up, and am greeted with the tail end of a vehicle, quietly parked at the end of the path, blocking the entrance of a couple of our rooms, no where near a parking lot, where it should be resting.

Unable to hold back my astonishment, I start cackling like a witch, at the absurdity of the sight before me; I then yell back to SEC, "Bro! I found it!" Before falling back into laughter. I had the mental clarity to search around the vehicle, seeing if anyone was inside; as well as to check for more damage; or to make sure no guest was potentially pinned underneath this beast.

I have 2nd shift on the phone, asking her to run names for me; no dice. I also ask her to look up the name on the note; nothing.
We're informed PD is going to fly a drone over the property, to check for heat signatures, trying to find our guy, seeing if he's still meandering in the desert. Nada...

PD offers to get a tow truck to remove it, but that risks causing more damage to the property. Yeah... no. Let's try avoiding adding more damage to the landscaping, because I know grounds is gonna be pissed when they see what's happened to the lawn, and some of the perfectly curated plants on the path. Lucky us, while searching the vehicle, PD found the keys in the ignition! SecDir asks that I call our Front Desk Director (my boss), and ask how she wants us to get the van out; SEC offers to drive it out, and we just guide him around, to make sure he doesn't do significant damage to the property. My boss gives the all clear, and we all take position; PD in front, with SecDir, and me following behind, to make sure the tail end of the van clears things, or offering a push, if we get stuck on decorative boulders.
After about 5 mins, of yelling and directing, the van is returned to the black top, that is a parking lot, with cheers and applause! PD gets final statements from us, and suggests we get the van towed ASAP, so if the original driver returns, he might come to the desk looking for his vehicle/keys; basically setting a trap, so we could call PD if/when he returns. I thank the officers, and my team, for a job well done, then return to the desk; time to begin writing reports, updating the big bosses, and searching for 24hr towing...
My coworker is all giddy from the excitement, as I show her pictures I had taken; kicking myself for not having recorded us driving the van out, to document any damages we may have caused, but, oh well, I'm sure the bosses won't mind. I eventually get a hold of a tow company, and am informed they can't tow the vehicle, until after 48hrs, due to a new bill that has been passed in my state; but, they can come tag the vehicle; perfect! I keep SEC informed, so he can update his reports, and give him the van keys to hold onto, along with the tow companies info.
My coworker finally decides to leave the desk, and wants to go work out at the fitness center; it's almost 2am at this point, and her gym is closed. I don't have a problem with it, so I give her a member key. I include this information for a reason...
Around 2:45am, just as I'm preparing to run audit, I get a call from my coworker; I answer, "is everything okay?" And all I hear is her say, "I think the guy is back!" No. Fucking. Way. She continues, "I was about to leave, when I saw, someone I thought was a guest, stumbling around the ballroom area, and I asked if he needed help. He mumbled, and I couldn't understand him. Then I realized, he fit the description of our missing driver! He's in the parking lot right now, just kinda wandering."
LET'S GOOOO!
I'm on the radio, calling SEC, and telling him to go to the parking lot; and to meet up with coworker. I then start calling PD, telling them our guy is back, and we need them back here.
SEC calls me after I hang up with PD and is laughing; he tells me our guy is just standing by the van, trying to open the doors, and just acting super confused; probably thinking, "how did this get here?" SEC says our guy seems to have given up, and is now smoking a cigarette next to the van; probably having realized he probably fucked up, bad, accepting his fate.
PD eventually joins them, and takes the guy to jail for the night, for trespassing; unable to prove he's a guest, or knows someone who is staying here. Unfortunately, we couldn't prove he was the driver, because we don't have cameras on the property, other than the ones watching the desk. The guys does confirm it's his van tho, so some legal savvy people might be able to clarify if he can actually get charged for DUI.
The next night, I come on shift, to find the van gone, and no update from management on any legal action that is being pursued.

PD offers to get a tow truck to remove it, but that risks causing more damage to the property. Yeah... no. Let's try avoiding adding more damage to the landscaping, because I know grounds is gonna be pissed when they see what's happened to the lawn, and some of the perfectly curated plants on the path. Lucky us, while searching the vehicle, PD found the keys in the ignition! SecDir asks that I call our Front Desk Director (my boss), and ask how she wants us to get the van out; SEC offers to drive it out, and we just guide him around, to make sure he doesn't do significant damage to the property. My boss gives the all clear, and we all take position; PD in front, with SecDir, and me following behind, to make sure the tail end of the van clears things, or offering a push, if we get stuck on decorative boulders.
After about 5 mins, of yelling and directing, the van is returned to the black top, that is a parking lot, with cheers and applause! PD gets final statements from us, and suggests we get the van towed ASAP, so if the original driver returns, he might come to the desk looking for his vehicle/keys; basically setting a trap, so we could call PD if/when he returns. I thank the officers, and my team, for a job well done, then return to the desk; time to begin writing reports, updating the big bosses, and searching for 24hr towing...
My coworker is all giddy from the excitement, as I show her pictures I had taken; kicking myself for not having recorded us driving the van out, to document any damages we may have caused, but, oh well, I'm sure the bosses won't mind. I eventually get a hold of a tow company, and am informed they can't tow the vehicle, until after 48hrs, due to a new bill that has been passed in my state; but, they can come tag the vehicle; perfect! I keep SEC informed, so he can update his reports, and give him the van keys to hold onto, along with the tow companies info.
My coworker finally decides to leave the desk, and wants to go work out at the fitness center; it's almost 2am at this point, and her gym is closed. I don't have a problem with it, so I give her a member key. I include this information for a reason...
Around 2:45am, just as I'm preparing to run audit, I get a call from my coworker; I answer, "is everything okay?" And all I hear is her say, "I think the guy is back!" No. Fucking. Way. She continues, "I was about to leave, when I saw, someone I thought was a guest, stumbling around the ballroom area, and I asked if he needed help. He mumbled, and I couldn't understand him. Then I realized, he fit the description of our missing driver! He's in the parking lot right now, just kinda wandering."
LET'S GOOOO!
I'm on the radio, calling SEC, and telling him to go to the parking lot; and to meet up with coworker. I then start calling PD, telling them our guy is back, and we need them back here.
SEC calls me after I hang up with PD and is laughing; he tells me our guy is just standing by the van, trying to open the doors, and just acting super confused; probably thinking, "how did this get here?" SEC says our guy seems to have given up, and is now smoking a cigarette next to the van; probably having realized he probably fucked up, bad, accepting his fate.
PD eventually joins them, and takes the guy to jail for the night, for trespassing; unable to prove he's a guest, or knows someone who is staying here. Unfortunately, we couldn't prove he was the driver, because we don't have cameras on the property, other than the ones watching the desk. The guys does confirm it's his van tho, so some legal savvy people might be able to clarify if he can actually get charged for DUI.
The next night, I come on shift, to find the van gone, and no update from management on any legal action that is being pursued.
I know, not a super exciting ending; but I hope you enjoyed this tale.

So I moved in with my bf back in January and we just moved to a new house beginning of April, his sister and her family are rooming with us for a little bit while they set up the house they were in to sell and move to an upgraded place before we moved places we lived with his brother and his brother is one of the most nasty people I have ever lived with and I was raised by a hoarder. He just leaves stuff to mildew mold or collect gnats and he didn’t have a job till end of February so he wasn’t paying any bills before he’s not paying to live here but when he’s home from driving for work he’s on our couch just collecting up trash and not getting his living arrangements ready or moving his stuff from the old house and he borrowed my bfs key a few days ago and made a copy without permission and idk it pisses me off but because his sister lives with us and she’s protective of their older brother I’m not allowed to say anything he’ll shut down block it out I’m just so done I want him gone he has been rude to me while we were here I’m done and my bf can’t do anything because his sister wants their brother here this is mainly just a vent post but for clarification I’m 21 my bf is 23 his brother is 27. I’ve had a problem for a while because he was mooching off of my bf but that’s family take care of family but he is so greedy and he acts like the world owes him shit. The only reason he got a job is because their dad cut him off. He uses being drunk as a reason to be an asshole I was raised up around a lot of alcoholics and if you’re an asshole while drunk your just an asshole. Alcohol does not change your personality that much if you were a good person you wouldn’t magically be an asshole because of a few beers. I don’t want him on my couch. The morning after he popped shit off to me his sister said “well he sees how you come out and play with the kids and talk to me and don’t anything to him it hurts his feelings” he’s 27 he’s old enough that his brothers gf not smiling or talking to him because of his own actions shouldn’t cause him to treat someone like shit. I don’t talk to him because he doesn’t make me feel I can. He’s constantly live streaming or gaming. I’m not gonna repeat myself constantly just to try to have a convo with someone who’s uninterested. I’m not and I’m the youngest adult in the house I shouldn’t have to be the best with emotions. I just don’t want him here when someone who lives here isn’t here, he made a key with out permission. Before we moved in he threw a fit because he was claiming their dad said he had to help but the house (their dad never said that) and my bf was being shitty about not wanting him around about “if I had a wife and kids I wouldn’t treat you like this.” I know he thinks I’m driving a wedge between him and his brother but he’s doing that himself. Im just tired this is a grown man who has never not lived on his own when we knew we were moving he wanted one of the bigger rooms because of his bed size but we were gonna have multiple people in the bigger rooms so wasn’t happening single person can have the smallest room. He didn’t want that so he got a camper off their dad and it needed fixing he hasn’t even been working on that unless he can have a whole party at the same time their cousins done most of the work on it my brother helped as well. He doesn’t flush the toilet will leave the seat up and I’m tried of it. Bob doesn’t care about e-rooms, but he knows I love them and rarely get to do them. I immediately RSVPed for the both of us because the e-rooms have to be booked in advance and have strict occupancy limits once booked.
I read on the e-room’s website that it had some physical components including “dodging lasers.” My boyfriend is recovering from a broke leg; he can walk but doesn’t have full mobility back, so I wondered if he would be able to participate. But Freda invited him knowing his current condition, so I assumed the physical component must be pretty nominal. 🚩
FFW to last night: the e-room was booked for 10 people, and exactly 10 people RSVPed. About 20 people (including Bob and me) were at Freda’s house before the e-room for pizza and drinks. Freda comes up to me and says that she heard that I love e-rooms and that she’s excited to solve one together.
As a group of us exited her apartment to Uber to the e-room, I counted 12 people in the group and mentioned this to Freda, who didn’t seem worried about it. 🚩🚩🚩
Once we get there, Bob and I were among the first ones to sign in, complete the waiver, and sit in the lobby. After a few minutes, Freda started pacing between the lobby and the sign-in area. She stopped in the lobby and said to me, Bob, and a few others, “I don’t know what to do. There’s two extra people here who aren’t going to be able to play, and I don’t know who it’ll be…” She paused and lingered, implicitly asking one of us to volunteer, but no one did. Eventually Freda said, “Okay, executive decision: Bob since you still have a broken leg, Bob and OP won’t play. Is that OK with you two?”
Obviously, I wanted to say, “It’s abso-fucking-lutely not OK with us. If his leg precludes him from playing, why did you invite him in the first place? And if it doesn’t preclude him, why are we being excluded and not the two people who didn’t RSVP? And if even it does preclude him, why does that necessarily preclude me too? Why are you telling us this here and now in front of everyone!?”
But I bit my tongue in front of his friend and let him talk for the both of us: “Sure, no problem.”
Freda apologized and said, “Well, at least you can sit in the lobby and watch us play through the live video feed!” She said this with complete sincerity, as if it was any less imprudent as saying, “I’m sorry that I’m fucking your wife, but you can always listen through the bedroom door if you want!”
Bob asked me if I wanted to just leave, but in a fit of raging pettiness, I said we should stay. We hung out and just talked in the lobby. I was still really pissed, but Bob was simply resigned: “I’m not surprised. I’m always excluded from things.”
After about 90 minutes, the group of 10 came out of the e-room cheering, having solved it just it time. Freda, with complete earnestness, came up to me and said, “That was so fun! OP, you would’ve really loved it!” She started explaining how the puzzles worked, but I just cut her off and said we’d seen it all on the video feed.

I’m still fuming a day later, but I don’t know if I should be. In hindsight, we really should’ve left as soon as we were excluded. I guess I didn’t want to “run away” from the problem, but staying just exacerbated it.
On the one hand, I feel bad for being the sour grapes at this woman’s birthday party that I was gracious invited to. I also genuinely don’t think there was any malice or forethought to her actions.
But on the other hand, it really felt like a slap in the face to be excluded in-person of everyone after we had all physically traveled to the venue. If we had been uninvited a day or even hour before, I still would’ve been very disappointed, but I wouldn’t have felt so disrespected and angry.

I had also just moved in with my partner and we were engaged. I thought the world of him and I believed he was my future and who I would have children with. I centered so much of my love, time and attention our relationship no matter what. We were together for just over a year when it all came crashing down.
It doesn't really matter how the breakup happened in any case with anyone; it happened and it hurt, period. That's where I feel your pain. I've been through what you're going through and it lasted me 1 year and 3 months. Every. Single. Day. Yes, there was better days but they were never enough and never consistent. It was a constant battle to distract and cope, and it rarely worked.
With this newfound freedom from my thoughts, I began to fall in love with the little things. I went on more walks, I hung out with the ducks and geese around me. I loved the way the sun felt on my skin. I began experimenting with my fashion choices. I was able to pick up a new hobby and get deep into it. I went on a vacation, I reconnected with my old friends. Life had meaning again and I could breathe.
As a result however, I fell in love with my own solitude. I made myself happy and I was picking up the pieces and improving my life for myself. My future included me, myself, and I, and I was not interested in dating. Seeing couples and weddings didn't phase me. I was happy for others, but I wasn't thinking the same thing for myself. I was focused on being happy, enjoying life and improving myself as a person. I didn't want to date anymore or put myself out there. She was hugging me and burying her head in my neck all night. The fragrance in question? Prada La Femme. I usually wear Citrine by Nest layered with Al-Rehab Silver, so I’m very much into florals but lean towards fresh and green notes normally. La Femme is floral but gives more “high femme” with intriguing complexity and good staying power. It’s a touch sweet at first and the tuberose comes through strongly, but the dry down is beeswax, vanilla (but not too gourmand-y) and Iris. I love the way it settles into my skin and is noticeable but not overpowering. When I wore this working as a cart girl at a golf club, I’d regularly have members ask me what I was wearing so they could gift it to their wives, or differentiate me from the other cart girl as “the one who smells good” vs “the one with the eyeliner.” I had let this fall to the back of my collection but it might have to become my signature scent again because it develops so beautifully over the course of the day.

So need some help on what I can do right now to help myself…
I’ve been diagnosed bipolar since 2020, I’m in mid mid to late 20s now. I was in a really shitty 3 year relationship when I was diagnosed. Now, I’m married to the most wonderful, patient man. I am TERRIFIED of losing him. It’s so bad, constantly worried about him cheating or confiding in other woman. He reassures and assures but I know it’s emotionally draining on him as much, if not more than myself. It’s been worse lately than usual and typically only when we’re apart.
Now, I’m starting to seep into a manic episode but this time… feels worse. I’m a very smart woman, I would never quit a job without another lined up, even if I hated it. But I just did and I was making so much money. Then tonight, I spent $1000 impulsively on tickets for a game AFTER knowing I just quit my job. The last few nights, not tired and can’t sleep which is why I’ve really noticed that something is about to go down…
For myself and for the sake of my loving husband, what can I do…
I don’t drink alcohol or caffeine or drugs or smoke. I’m on a good medication regimen that has worked for almost two years. My therapist is booked out until July so that’s really awesome. I’ve looked over my CBT and DBTs and nothing is helping. I’ve tried journaling, not for me. I just don’t know what to do. I’m just stuck and I hate when I know it’s coming but I don’t know how to move out from in front of the train.
I don’t want to lose myself again and I do not want to lose my husband and marriage.
Also, we are trying to get pregnant and I got my period yesterday so that has heightened sadness and emotions.
