Grant me you're healing, strength, and joy, and I will serve you the rest of my life. When you reveal yourself to me may the song Above All play so that I know it's you." Months passed with no response, and I began to lose hope, contemplating abandoning my faith altogether.
Some time goes by, and I attend a church service on Sunday. The church had just finished a 20-day prayer fast, and had a visiting speaker who delivered a message I will never forget. He opened up with saying how there is someone here who has been sinning in sexually deviant ways, and how they have felt condemned to hell and isolated, having no one to confide in but God, and that God has heard their cry, and is giving this person strength. Before he was even finished saying the words "God is giving this person strength," I felt a strength so real I can't begin to describe. I knew it wasn't a physical strength (though it felt like I could do any physical thing in that moment), but a spiritual one. Instantly my whole being felt alive, and all my typical doubts and questioning suddenly became impossible in that moment. The speaker proceeded to say that God had also seen my swear, and that I should not make vows to God (the day before, for the first time I vowed to God I would never again give in to my depravity, and broke the vow that same night). After saying these things (and other things that made me know I was the one he was speaking of) he called people up for prayer. The only time I ever went up for prayer was if my parents forced me, so I reasoned that if I went up this time on my own volition, my parents might think he was talking about me. In light of this, even though I felt called to go up, I decided not to, and asked God in my heart to find another way to reach me. After the speaker prayed for others that went up, he paused for a moment with an expression that seemed taken aback, and then proceeded to ask everyone to pray for the person next to them. My dad was sitting next to me, but because my dad didn't know my situation, I wondered what we would speak over me. He whispered a prayer over me in words not of English, yet somehow I felt I knew the language, only could not comprehend it in that moment. After everyone was done praying, the church moves on to praise and worship, and the first song that plays is Above All. As soon as the song started playing, I instantly recalled my previous prayer months ago where I had requested this. Throughout this experience, not only did my body feel radiant with spiritual strength, but also Love. Love was what I dominantly felt, but it didn't feel like any love I was used to, but one that was unconditional, and indescribably deepemystical. No love (or any feeling for that matter) I had felt up to this point came even close to what I felt in that moment. I remember at one point my body even began to quiver, no matter how much I tried to stifle it. At this point, all doubts about God's existence were gone with the wind, for I recall experiencing a deep knowing that extended beyond my human understanding.
The following week was the best week of my life. All my addictive tendencies and perverse thoughts were completely gone. Not a single depraved thought entered my mind. Not only this, but I distinctly recall the amount of joy I felt in those days. I had the biggest smile on my face which I could not hide, and all my depression was wiped clean without a trace. There was also this intense feeling of deep connection with everything, even nature. One experience in particular that sticks out to me to this day was when that week I was waiting at the bus stop like I usually do, and I began to stare at the tree in front of me. This is the same tree I had seen a million times before, but as I stared at it this time, suddenly the tree became vivid before my eyes, full of intense life and color--colors and beauty which didn't seem physically possible. In that moment I remember saying to myself, "nature is praising God with my soul", and didn't think much of it in the moment, as it appeared to be an obvious, unquestionable reality. I remember going to class that day and having multiple friends and teachers pull me aside and ask what was wrong with me, and that I had a different "glow" about me, and that they haven't seen me with this much joy before. I felt reborn, like I was truly seeing life for the first time. I felt complete in God/Love, and it was the most beautiful thing I've ever experienced. After the week had passed, I suddenly felt like my "normal" self again--not in terms of feeling depressed and returning to my depravity, but rather that it felt like my mind was in control again instead of the True mind. I now had to consciously work to control my thoughts, find joy, etc., but it was easier to do still, given that I remembered the state from which I previously came. I remember feeling that life on earth was simultaneously pointless while also not. All of this happened a decade ago, so lots has happened since then, but this is an experience I will never forget. I still struggle with life of course just like everyone else, but I'm in a much better place now then where I used to be, simply because of God's Love. Any time life tries to get to me, I look back to this time in my life.
I say all these things not to boast in myself, but to boast in God. There is nothing inherently more special about me, nor was any of what I experienced my own doing. I simply decided to put my faith in God because that was all I had, and God answered, giving me what I needed at the time, and I am confident he will do the same for anyone in similar circumstance who places their faith in Him. I'm also slowly growing past the point of arguing with people about this or that when it comes to God. If you want to know God, seek Him, and He will answer. On that day, all arguments will be brought to nothing, for if God is Truth, will He not eventually answer you in the Truth of Himself? I want to bring a break to all the political posts and do a crackpot conspiracy that I think is interesting. Here we go:
First and foremost, I think it is important to remember this was written around 95 AD, so John would have no knowledge of what an ICBM, a gun or a plane or anything actually is. Therefore when reading this, you must understand he is using things he does know to describe things he does not know. He simply has no words to name what he saw, so he used common items to describe it to people.
Revelation 6:1-8

I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!” ² I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest. ³ When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” ⁴ Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword. ⁵ When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. ⁶ Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “Two pounds^\)^a\) of wheat for a day’s wages,^\)^b\) and six pounds^\)^c\) of barley for a day’s wages,^\)^d\) and do not damage the oil and the wine!” ⁷ When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” ⁸ I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.

The 4 horseman of the apocalypse. A horse of white, red, black, and pale (possibly green). If we are to assume there are no coincidences in the Bible then the color's mean something. You cant help but notice that Palestine's flag is that of white, red, black and pale. Once you look further, you will notice so is Egypt, Yemen, Jordan, Syria, Kuwait, Sudan, UAE, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and you see my point.
Lets break down further what is to come when the first seals are broken.

Seal 1: The White Horseman

Once the first seal is broken, a rider holding a sword symbolic of conquest rode out. In the Hamas Covenant of 1988, they say in the first section: "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it" and "The day that enemies usurp part of Moslem land, Jihad becomes the individual duty of every Moslem."
People bent on conquest is the first thing they mention. It is Hamas' intention to obliterate Israel and the Jews there.

Seal 2: The Red Horseman

This horseman is set to end world peace and make people kill each other. Lets take another look at Hamas' charter, shall we?
After securing the national of Israel and uniting Palestine under 1 religion, Islam in the praise of Allah. Their defined slogan is:
"Allah is its target, the Prophet is its model, the Koran its constitution: Jihad is its path and death for the sake of Allah is the loftiest of its wishes." and they talk about how all Muslim nations should join them to bring about Jihad until all nationals say Allah's name.
"They should back and support it, as Allah wants them to, extending to it more and more funds till Allah's purpose is achieved when ranks will close up, fighters join other fighters and masses everywhere in the Islamic world will come forward in response to the call of duty while loudly proclaiming: Hail to Jihad. Their cry will reach the heavens and will go on being resounded until liberation is achieved, the invaders vanquished and Allah's victory comes about."

Seal 3: The Black Horseman

I am assuming during this Jihad, famine will spread across the region as the infidels are killed off en masse. Food prices will sky rocket as Islamic nations erupt into chaos. Their oil production will slow causing everything to inflate, and they possibly going to war with the west as well and cut off our supply of oil.

Seal 4: The Pale Horseman (people theorize this could be a light green or yellow pale)

Global conflict as WW3 erupts across the globe. This is when food and disease will run rampant as every nation devolves into war. This horseman can kill by any means so expect anything. Bioweapons, chemical attacks, energy weapons, herbicides, ecoterrorism, etc. However I do not think nuclear warfare will happen yet because it is mentioned later on.
Now we go into what happens after the world falls into Jihad in Revelations 6:9-17

⁹ When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. ¹⁰ They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” ¹¹ Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters,^\)^e\) were killed just as they had been. ¹² I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, ¹³ and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. ¹⁴ The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. ¹⁵ Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. ¹⁶ They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us^\)^f\) from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! ¹⁷ For the great day of their^\)^g\) wrath has come, and who can withstand it?

>Seal 6: Nuclear War or Super Volcano
An earthquake, strong wind, sky turning red as the sun is blocked out. The heavens (clouds) receding like a scroll. I think this is someone describing a nuclear bomb who has never heard of one. We know nuclear bombs resemble earthquakes and can be detected via seismic activity. A strong wind comes from the blast as well, and such an explosion will move clouds as if they are being rolled back.
I think given the greater context of the apocalypse, nuclear war is the most likely, especially since John would have said something about a mountain exploding if it were a super volcano or made some mention of it.

The Grand Finale

The kings, princes, rich, and mighty + everyone else runs into caves in the mountains....I think conspiracy knows that the rich are building bunkers for a reason. They know what is to come. I think at this point the human race will be greatly reduced in population, and would be feasible for the remaining few to run to bunkers and fallout shelters.
Zechariah:
In Zechariah 14:1-2 it states that in the end days, all nations will come to Jerusalem to fight against it. I think in the coming year or years, Israel will do something so bad that all nations will tell them to stop or global sentiment will continue to shift over to support Palestine. At which point the bible says Jerusalem will be captured, houses ransacked, and women raped. Half the city will be in exile. I think this will be the Muslim population that live in Israel and do not support Jihad, currently it is at 38% Muslim there, after the Jews are mostly killed off in the jihad this number will likely be half the remaining population.
Now continuing down in the same chapter, the passage about Mount Olives is interesting. It says on this day it will be split in 2. I am not sure if this is metaphoric (nation divided in this area and explodes into warfare and the dust from explosions block the sun) or literal (the mountain explodes). It also says there will be no cold, light or frost. So I am leaning towards this will be an area of hot conflict that will erupt into warfare, rocket strikes and explosions, etc. There will be a frontline that runs straight down the middle of Mount Olives. The people there will flee en masse which the bible also says will happen.
The Angels:
Revelation 8 gives us insight into the angels in the final seal of the apocalypse and it is almost describing nuclear war perfectly.
Angel 1: Blew his trumpet and hail and fire was thrown upon the earth. 1/3rd of the earth was burned up, all the trees and grass was burned.
Angel 2: "Something like a great mountain" on fire thrown into the sea. I think this is describing an aircraft carrier getting hit, being set ablaze and going into the water. John would not know what an aircraft carrier looks like so to him, it might be something like a great mountain.
Angel 3: A great star comes falling out of the sky, blazing like a torch. A torch is a long object with a flame on one end. Sounds like a missile of some sort. Again John would have no idea what a missile is, so he is using things he knows in order to describe it. This missile poisons the water and is bitter. It is called Wormwood, which in Hebrew is written like לענה. I think John was reading Russian and rationalized it to something he could read, and the bitter water is the metallic taste people get from radiation.
Angel 4: Blew his trumpet and a third of the sun, stars and moon disappeared. Maybe at this point he is describing the response to Angel 3 via a nuclear retaliation. He also describes seeing an eagle. The eagle is symbolic of the USA which would make sense if the Angel 3 was a Russian ICBM.
Revelations 9:
Angel 5: This time John perfectly describes a missile silo. Read this:
"The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss. ² When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss. ³ And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth. ⁴ They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. ⁵ They were not allowed to kill them but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes. ⁶ During those days people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them." ⁷ The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. ⁸ Their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. ⁹ They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. ¹⁰ They had tails with stingers, like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months. ¹¹ They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek is Apollyon (that is, Destroyer).
I think a first part with the keys to a bottomless shaft describes an underground missile silo and the smoke is the launch. However the last part is too metaphorical for me to understand. The sting of a scorpion sounds like burns and the wish for death sounds like radiation sickness. This might allude to the marks the government will give us, maybe the government will give a select group of people passes into the bunkers so those without the mark will perish in the nuclear fallout.
I think the locusts is describing air planes at this point. He describes them as horses prepared for battle (elephant walks), and their faces like humans can either be nose art or the fact people try to see faces in inanimate things like cars. So to him he saw faces. This could also be tech we have yet to see. He even describes their engines as thunderous and their breastplates made of metal., which sounds like a modern fighter I think the gold crown they wear is referring to the radar reflecting gold bubble canopies used on 5th gen fighters. John would not know how to describe a radar reflecting canopy back in 95 AD, to him it would be a gold crown.
Angel 6: Releases the other angels from the Euphrates river that wipes out 1/3rd the population. This angel however is responsible for troops in the several 10,000s. So it is either Iraq, Syria, or Turkey. He goes onto describe them as wearing Red, Blue and Yellow. Look up the dress uniform of the Iraqi army, it is a red band on their hat, gold yelow an dark blue. The Iraqi army uniform is perfectly described in revelations, even down to what river they will be coming from. That is too much of a coincidence. He then describes smoke and sulfur coming from their mounts, I imagine they will use chemical weapons or white phosphorus in battle.
Angel 7: I am not even sure tbh. maybe new tech?
My Predictions:
1-2 years: Israel/Palestine conflict will ramp up as Israel continues their bombing campaigns. I think something will happen so severe that it will shock the world and turn them against Israel, telling them to stop cut funding, etc. Middle Eastern countries will come to Gaza and start pushing their troops into Israel. A front line will be established through Mount Olive as full scale war breaks out and the people of Israel flee. The middle eastern forces will take over Israel.
3-4 years: A new Islamic government will be established in Jerusalem. From there, there will be calls for the jihad and some terror groups will appear again. This will send us back into a GWOT type of conflict where NATO is trying to fight off terrorism around the globe. WW3 starts as China takes Taiwan since US troops are spread thing fighting against the Jihad. This might start off with an attack on a US Aircraft Carrier.
5-7 years: Someone hits the big red button and nuclear war breaks out. Chaos. plague, destruction, etc. Full scale modern war.

“Someone is coming through for you but it’s not a relative, dear.”
Genevieve could see the woman across from her was skeptical in her practice, speaking to those who had passed. She’d explained that she’d only come in out of curiosity not because she wanted a reading. And Genevieve had almost immediately heard someone for her, a sort of desperate pleading that was rare and fueled by a deep love. The stranger regarded her with a frown of confusion, fidgeting with her own hands as she glanced around the room. Tapestries hung draped across the walls while a red neon sign depicting an open palm flickered in the corner of the dimly lit space.
“He… he says to dress warmly tomorrow. To wear your long, powder blue coat and the brown leather boots you wore yesterday.”
The stranger’s demeanor immediately shifted as she glanced up at Genevieve with wide eyes, all suspicion suddenly gone and replaced by what seemed to be a mixture of fear and shock. She’d seen the look a thousand times before so she offered a warm, understanding smile as she gave the woman time to process the message. Genevieve didn’t understand it herself though it wasn’t her job to. She was simply there to act as a translator
“If he’s not a relative then how do I know him? How does he know me?”
The words were just above a whisper while she went back to glancing around the room as though she was expecting to see some sort of ghost. Again, it wasn’t anything that Genevieve hadn’t seen before. In an attempt to provide some sort of comfort to the woman as well as satisfy her own curiosity, Genevieve took her fidgeting hands and pulled them to rest on the table. Turning the woman’s delicate hands over, she exposed her palms so they faced the ceiling while her eyes traced over the lines she saw.
“He was your lover it seems. And is quite taken with you still it sounds like,” the medium explained with a fond smile. She could hear the man speaking to her, telling her about the woman across from her, about how he had waited so long for a chance to speak with her. His love for her was so obvious that it came with a sort of pain that Genevieve felt herself. It was evident from his tone alone that being unable to speak with the woman who had wandered into her shop had been agony for him.
“He likes your hair like that, up. He likes being able to see your face,” she murmured softly, her thumb brushing over one of the longer lines that ran across the woman’s palm before picking her hand up to view it more closely.
“And he says that he’d like for you to know that he’s with you often. I wouldn’t be surprised if you felt him from time too. Tends to happen when a bond between souls is that strong.” Her voice came in a thoughtful tone, her fingers smoothing over the woman’s hand to try and provide some sort of comfort but as she took in the stranger’s face all she saw was worry.
“I don’t have any lovers who have passed away.”
The confession was followed by the stranger attempting to pull her hands away through Genevieve’s grip tightened while her head turned to the left, her eyes flickering over the corner of the room where she could feel the presence radiating from. Spirits didn’t show up for the incorrect people. They never had in all of her years of practice. And then she heard it. Heard him explain where he was from.
“Where are you going tomorrow?”
As Genevieve asked the question, the knot in her stomach told her that she already knew the answer, knew why the woman had a lover who was deceased that she’d seemingly never met. She’d be meeting him soon.
“The tree maze,” she answered a bit breathlessly while searching Genevieve’s face as the medium continued to stare at the corner of the room. At the same time she answered, so did her lover, his voice breathless all the same as he spoke. ‘To meet me’.

After a break from writing and roleplaying brought on a rather miserable period of writer’s block, I’m searching for a partner to write with in hopes of undoing the unpleasant spell I seem to be stuck in:) Above is a blurb I wrote that came from the idea I’m hoping to build off of.
I’m a twenty four year old woman living in EST who has been writing on and off for eleven years give or take. I enjoy reading in my free time as well as gardening and obsessing over my cats.
A multitude of genres interest me from more modern, crime driven plots to high fantasy adventures. But romance is a common theme I enjoy including in all of my stories as I find relationship dynamics to be some of the most interesting things to explore especially when playing out in different worlds.
Today I’m looking to write something that shows two people who are from different times, making it appear as if they are from different worlds entirely. And through a woman accidentally traveling back in time, a love is born that changes history itself. If intrigued by the simple outline, I’d love to share ideas and build a full plot out together that way everyone’s interests can be included! I’m also a firm believer that constructing a plot with someone else is half the fun of a writing together.:)

I’m looking for some advice on whether I should sell or rent my first home.
I own a home in central FL. It is a 2/1 roughly 1000 sq ft with a large yard. I paid 200k for it when I bought it in 2017. I currently owe 170k and have a rate of 3.25%.
Rental estimate is between 1900-2200, so my estimate is 2000 a month.
The sell range estimate varies from 370k-412k. A similar house with a smaller yard and a few less sq is pending down the road at 389k.
My house is a 1936 home, and I’ve sunk about 20k into it replacing and installing all the necessary things. House was completely renovated in 2023 as Hurricane Ian dropped a tree on it and insurance allowed me to get it completely fixed. This insurance is also leaving FL.
I own a plot of land elsewhere and goal is to build there eventually, but doesn’t have to happen right away.
I have an opportunity to live for cheaper rent or rent free elsewhere for approximately 1 year.
I have never been a landlord and this is the only home I’ve owned.
What should I know? What advice do you have?

Tldr: how to get rid of ants in my bacony fruit tree pots without poisoning my berries.
Dear all; I have a sticky situation with ants in my plants. Specifically, tiny sugar ants (I think) that infested an apartment I subrented. They lived in the wall next to the kitchen and moved into the soil-bark of a phaleonopsis orchid I had. The orchid then died. I suppose these ants do not find orchids fun or are otherwise not plant friendly.
Upon my departure and move to a new, ant-free home, the ants apparently moved into my outdoor plant pots.
I now caught them moving eggs/larvae from my miniature fig to the big alocasia zebrina pot. To my horror the many, many tiny ants were happily moving into the alocasia with their baby ants (orchid 2.0).
My fear is that the ants will move from the balcony into the apartment itself when the German weather gets cold, settle into the walls like in my old apartment, and never leave again. However, sprinkling ant poison on my fruit plants and then eating the fruit seems like risky business.
There's no aphids on the plants, but the ants did kill my orchid, so I guess they are not great for plant roots. I heard classic ant bait boxes aren't strong enough for a whole nest. Vinagar or boiling water would kill the plants too. But if I drown the ants, won't it chase them into the home? I'm deeply confused what to do and hope you can help me as you have with the previous garden ants posters.
So: help! How can I get rid of the ants, without making them migrate into my home/other plants and without poisoning my fruit?

Question for the sales arborists out there...
TLDR: What are your go-to brands (shirts, pants, boots/shoes)? Our requirements: polo/button down shirt, long pants (khaki type), outdoor shoes/boots (merril, redwing, etc.).
I've been a sales arborist for about 4 years now and starting to feel like I need to update my fit. I've been a field employee (tree work, landscaping, farming, etc) for such a long time that it still feels weird to not wear more durable outdoor gear including boots.
I have a decent outdoor apparel store near me so I've made the transition to synthetic golfing type polo's for summer time (our compony embroiders the logo on it for free). Pants are still a big question, I prefer slimmer fitting pants but it looks weird with giant redwing boots.
I'm in a highly effluent territory so I need to step up my game while still having gear that can handle the elements. Just curious if there are others here in similar situations and if y'all have any go-to brands.

Everything I’ve read about the best time to plant trees says to wait until fall, preferably late fall/early winter. But I’m wondering if a weeping willow could be planted along the edge of a small creek in early June in 7b, because these trees love water so much, and it’ll have all the water it could want.
And my second question: will it mostly send all its roots toward the creek, and not so much to the other side, because of its “water-seeking” nature?

~PART 1~

An urban legend took my daughter’s life, and I would’ve done anything to save her.
Cock the Hammer. Have you ever heard of it? Not the Cypress Hill hip-hop song but the game. I’ll be honest, I hadn’t. Not until all of this happened.

Looking around at all the people in my house, I had wanted them to take their sympathy and leave me the fuck alone. A funeral for Nina shouldn’t be any kind of comfort for me. My daughter was dead, and I felt responsible.

Max found his sister. I should’ve been the one, but I was too busy and distracted. I should’ve done better. Nina had always thought I could. She believed in me more than I believed in myself, and that’s not the way a father-daughter relationship is supposed to work.

When I saw Chief Schnabel slip in my front door, I was furious. I didn’t want this guy in my house or anywhere near me. Schnabel was the one who told me the gunshot that killed my daughter was consistent with suicide. But they never found a gun. I’m no Sherlock Holmes, but suicide victims don’t dispose of their weapons. But this minor fact didn’t stop Schnabel from shutting down his investigation three hours after Nina was found.

I was about to make a rage-filled beeline for the Chief when I spotted Willow, Nina’s best friend since pre-school. I hadn’t talked to her since Nina died, and I needed to. Maybe she had answers.

Willow was emotional, but that didn’t stop me from bombarding her with lawyer-like questions, making her cry. I felt bad, but before I could apologize, the rest of Nina’s friends swooped in. There was Zach, Haley, Chase and Hugo. I’ve known these four for years and think they’re all decent kids, apart from Zach and his frat-boy smugness. I couldn’t tell if they were trying to protect Willow or hiding something, but I was determined to find out. But they kept giving me the runaround, especially smartass Zach.

I suddenly had the urge to punch Zach in the face, but my sister rescued me, dragging me into the kitchen. Lauren and her wife, Kim, reminded me that I was at my daughter’s funeral reception and that I probably shouldn’t be getting into a fight with her friends or making them cry. Lauren said I should be focused on Max. This riled me up, but I knew she was right.

The reception was finally winding down, and I had stayed hidden in the kitchen for the last hour, trying to talk to Max. He was playing his Game Boy and refusing to look at me, his fingers tapping away a million miles an hour.

Max is the sweetest kid – when he’s not having one of his epic meltdowns. His mother was good at consoling him, but she died last year of ovarian cancer. Nina had gracefully stepped in as the family Max-whisperer in my wife’s absence, the best big sister a kid with emotional issues could wish for. But now it was just me and Max.

“I promise I’ll do better, buddy,” I told him for the umpteenth time. “We’re all we have now, and I promise I’ll do better.”

Max didn’t respond, but I knew he’d heard me because his fingers stopped moving.

Willow suddenly appeared at the door. I was glad to see her, and I apologized for before.

“It’s okay,” she said, her voice still shaky. “I know you’re upset.”

I nodded and kind of smiled, sharing something with her. We were both upset. We were both devastated.

“I just wanted to say goodbye,” Willow finally said after a long silence.

“I really am sorry, Willow. I was out of line. I know you were a wonderful friend to Nina. She was lucky to have you.”

Willow started to cry again. It was a little awkward, but I hugged her. I knew I wasn’t hugging my daughter, but I felt Nina close.

“Max, can I talk to your dad in private for a moment?”

Max dropped off his stool and walked out, never looking up from his Game Boy.

Willow wanted to tell me something important, so I let her take her time. I didn’t want to spook her.

“I was there when it happened,” she finally said.

I wasn’t sure what she meant.

“I was with Nina when she did it.”

“You were with Nina when she died?” I asked, needing this to be as clear as possible in my head.

Willow couldn’t speak before, but once she started, she was desperate to get it all out. She told me they got a hold of the gun and played the game at Zach’s house. She told me Nina didn’t want to play at first, but then the gun followed her home and seduced her, and when she did play, she experienced a suicide and the gun forced her to do what she did, even though Willow knows that’s the last thing Nina wanted to do.

I was trying to make sense of what she was saying.

Willow keeps talking, forcing the rest out. She told me she got rid of the gun. She told me that after a suicide, you have to protect the legend, or the gun will come after you and everyone you love. So that’s what she did. She drove out to Walton Park, dug a hole, and buried it.

She finally took a breath. I could tell she felt a sense of relief, but at the same time, she looked as if she might break into a million pieces.

“I’m really sorry, Mr. H.”

“I’m trying to understand what you’re saying, Willow,” I said as gently as I could. “I need to understand. This gun – whose was it?”

“It doesn’t belong to anyone.”

“And you say you played a game. What do you mean… what game?”

Before Willow could answer, her mother swept in, offered her condolences again, and whisked her daughter out. I would’ve stopped them if I had been thinking straight.

I found my sister cleaning up the buffet table. Lauren knew something was up by the look on my face. I asked her if she knew of some urban legend about a gun and a game.

“Cock the Hammer,” Lauren said without even thinking about it. “That story was big when we were kids. Why?”

“I don’t remember that.”

“That’s because you were too obsessed with basketball and Suzanne Boysen.”

“So, it’s not real?”

“What? Some haunted gun? No, of course not. Why are you asking about this?”

I brushed the question off. I didn’t want to try to explain what Willow had told me. I just wanted to think for a moment. I just needed time to think.

I jumped on the internet as soon as my house was my own again. It was true – there’s an urban legend called Cock the Hammer that’s been around for decades. I still couldn’t believe I’d never heard of it. It involves this ornate Lefaucheux revolver from the Civil War. Supposedly when you cock the gun’s hammer it shows you a random killing that’s been committed with the gun. You time travel to the place and time of a killing and get to inhabit the body of the person pulling the trigger. But there’s a Russian Roulette catch to the game. While most people experience the killing of another person, in some cases, the person used the gun to commit suicide. If a player relives one of these scenes, they’re forced by the evil possession of the gun to use it on themselves. The gun takes control, and it insists on being discharged – into a player’s head or mouth or whichever way the person committed suicide – to end the session. Or at least that’s how the legend goes.

My first thought was that’s some crazy, stupid shit. But the more I kept reading, the angrier it made me. This crazy, stupid shit was dangerous as hell.

How did Nina fall for it? I couldn’t understand that. She was such a smart kid. How could she have believed in such nonsense? That some fantasy gun had magical powers.

I wanted answers. But then again, maybe I didn’t deserve answers. I should’ve been protecting my daughter, but instead, this game and this so-called haunted gun had seduced her. It was a hard truth for me to swallow.

I couldn’t sleep that night. The gun haunted me. Not that I believed any of it; I didn’t. But I worried another Nina would. Willow said she had buried the gun, but that wasn’t good enough for me. I needed to unearth it and destroy it.

I picked Willow up first thing in the morning, and we drove out to Walton Park. I knew what I was asking her to do made her nervous. She didn’t want to be anywhere near the gun again. But I think she could tell I was desperate. It wouldn’t bring Nina back, but maybe it would save me just a little.

The hike into the woods was farther than I anticipated, but Willow said she wanted to get the gun as far away from anything and everyone as she could. She remembered exactly where she buried it. She hadn’t wanted to get lost hiking out, so she picked Squaw Rock, a place she used to visit with her dad before he remarried and started a new family.

We finally reached the area and the mound of dirt Willow buried the gun under. I had brought a small shovel and immediately started digging, tossing off dirt. I keep digging. I was surprised at how deep Willow buried it. Finally, I hit something solid. But it wasn’t the gun. It was a thick root from a nearby tree. I couldn’t dig any deeper.

“Are you sure this is the right spot?” I asked.

Willow was positive. She was suddenly on her knees. She put her hands into the hole, and they knocked hard against the root.

“Where is it?” She started searching through the loose dirt. She kept clawing at things with her hands, hoping the gun was somehow hidden in the tiny clumps. “Where is it?!” Her nerves had turned to panic.

I put a hand on her shoulder. “Somebody probably just found it.”

“No. I buried it here so no one could find it. But I shouldn’t have done that. I made it angry.”

I helped her to her feet. “Someone came along and dug it up, that’s all,” I said in my most self-assured voice.

Willow shook her head and kept shaking.

“It’s going to be okay,” I told her.

“It’s evil, Mr. H.”

“It’s a gun, Willow. It’s only evil if we make it evil.”

Willow told me I didn’t understand. She told me she would give anything to make me understand before it was too late.

All I wanted was to talk to Nina’s friends, and I asked Willow to text them. They felt ambushed when my car pulled into the 7-11 parking lot an hour later. Willow wanted to tell them she had buried the gun, but it was gone. I wanted to know if any of them had it, convinced that one of them did.

Even though I now knew they were all playing the game the night Nina died, her friends were still reluctant to talk. But Willow vouched for me, and they all softened. None of them had the gun. None of them wanted the gun after what happened to Nina.

“You can’t bury it,” Hugo said.

“You can’t destroy it, either,” Chase added.

Now that I was hearing the same story from all of them – seeing the same ardent belief in something so preposterous – I wanted more than ever to get my hands on this gun. Everything can be destroyed, even something evil.

I questioned Zach on where he got the gun in the first place, and he said he just found it. He was walking home from school, cutting through Abbot’s field, when the gun was just there in his path like it had been waiting for him.

“It probably sensed his fear,” Chase tells me.

Zach shoves Chase. “Bullshit, what fear?”

“Fine, dude, then it sensed your anger or stupidity or whatever.”

Zach came at Chase again, and the two boys scuffled, and I had to step in and break them up.

Zach stormed off in a huff, and Chase disappeared into the 7-Eleven. Hugo tried to escape with Haley, but she pulled her hand away. She wanted Hugo to tell me about his Uncle Ray. Hugo was pissed she was bringing this up when he asked her not to. The two argued for a moment, but then Hugo came clean. His Uncle Ray played the game a few years ago.

I pressed Hugo for details, but he said all he wanted to say, so Haley spoke for him. She told me that Uncle Ray played the game and experienced a suicide, but the person in the past trying to kill themselves screwed things up. “I mean, it was an attempted suicide, I guess,” Haley said. “They put the gun to their head and pulled the trigger, but they didn’t die. The bullet just got lodged in their brain. And that’s what happened to Uncle Ray. That’s how the game works.”

“He’s a vegetable,” Hugo offered. “Or at least that’s what my dad thinks. But my Aunt Kathy still visits him every day. She talks to him and swears he talks back – or at least on some telepathic level or something.”

“Where’s he living?” I asked.

“If you can call that living,” Hugo said with a pained chuckle.

“The place is called Cedarwood Manor,” Haley offered. “It’s out by the interstate.”

I wanted to take Willow home – she had helped me enough – but she insisted on coming along to Cedarwood Manor. I think being with me made her feel connected to Nina, and that’s something I understood. The feeling was mutual.

The front desk receptionist sent us in the right direction. We stepped into Uncle Ray’s room, pulled in by the droning beep of the machines. The blinds were drawn. To be honest, the guy looked dead more than anything. I guess he hadn’t been out of bed, or rather some bed, since this all happened – since he supposedly played the game and put a bullet in his head whether he wanted to or not, so his body had deflated like a balloon.

It wasn’t until Willow and I stood closer to the bed that we realized Uncle Ray’s eyes were open. His blank stare was eerie-looking. It was also focused squarely on Willow.

I wasn’t there for small talk, so I started asking the man questions about the gun and the game. I was pretty sure Uncle Ray could hear me because his eyes kept glancing over at me at various points, clearly triggered by what I was asking. But for the most part, his focus stayed drilled on Willow.

I wanted to know if it was true that he played some game called Cock the Hammer. I wanted to know how I could find the gun. I wanted to understand what he was so afraid of.

This last question surprised me. I wasn’t planning on asking it. I wouldn’t have imagined why I would. But the look of terror on Uncle Ray’s face made me realize it was the most important question of all.

Willow still hadn’t looked away. I think she was waiting for Uncle Ray to blink. I was waiting for the same thing. The man hadn’t, I swear, since we walked in.

Blink.

Willow’s arm was suddenly snatched by Uncle Ray’s hand. It came out of nowhere, his bony fingers clamping down hard around her flesh. Willow freaked. She tried frantically to squirm free, but his hand stayed clutched around her wrist, draining the blood from her hand. She wanted to run, and she tried to, yanking the wisp of the guy out of bed. The two of them were on the floor before I could even react. I jumped in and tried to pry Uncle Ray’s fingers open, but it was like rigor mortis had set in.

The commotion brought a crowd into the room like a code blue. The massive descent of bodies somehow freed Willow from what I’m sure felt like the grip of death. She scurried across the room on all fours. I moved with her, wanting to comfort her, but she jumped at my touch.

Willow was still shaking when I drove her home. She wouldn’t talk at first, but then she started mumbling something under her breath. I told her I really wanted to hear what she was saying, but she would have to speak up. She took a breath and started over. She told me that when Uncle Ray grabbed her arm, there was a bright flash of light in the room, and Uncle Ray was suddenly sitting at the edge of the bed, the Lefaucheux revolver from the game pointed at his head. He was trying to tell her something. She was terrified, but she stopped fighting him, transfixed, and just watched as the words slowly formed on his lips. I... dare... you.

“I dare you,” I repeated. “I dare you to what?”

“Play the game, I think,” Willow said.

It was suddenly clear to me that she had hit her head when she fell, and what she experienced was some sort of delusion. I told her that, hoping it would reassure her, but she insisted that what she was telling me had really happened.

“Why would he want you to play the game?” I asked, gently trying to discredit the story.

“He doesn’t,” she answered. “The gun does.”

I didn’t know what else to say, so I stayed quiet.

A few minutes later, I rolled to the curb in front of Willow’s house. The place was dark, except for a garish fluorescent light in the kitchen. Willow just stared up at it.

“It’s my fault,” she finally said. “I should’ve stopped Nina from playing.”

“It wasn’t your fault,” I quickly answered. “It was my responsibility to be there for her. And I wasn’t.”

Willow took a few deep breaths, still trying to calm her nerves, then started chewing on the ends of her hair.

“I want you to take care, Willow. Okay?”

I think this made her feel better... that someone cared enough to be concerned.

“I want you to be careful, Mr. H. Okay?”

“Don’t worry about me. I’m going to find the gun. I’m going to destroy it, I promise.”

Willow didn’t say anything for a long moment. Finally, she told me she wanted to believe me. She said she was going to try really hard to believe me. She said she genuinely thought that if anyone could do what I just said I would, it would be me. And then she said she’d pray for me.

I thanked her. She smiled, which was a little forced but nice to see, and then she climbed out of my car.

I didn’t know then that I would need Willow’s prayers – and every bit of help I could get – to survive what was about to happen next.

If you pay attention and you take Genesis from the end to the beginning (chapters 50 to 1) and Revelation from the beginning to the end (chapters 1 to 22) they match perfectly.
In Genesis the world starts with God creating the earth and heaven and the man free of sin, humans become wicked and God destroyed the whole world with the flood (Genesis 7 and 8), the city of Babel (after which comes, Babylon –which conquered Israel in the times of the prophet Daniel- and Babylon the great, which is a city, a religious system –the catholic church- and a deity, in this case Mary) was created, in this days the world only talked one language and they were building a "tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and the world" and the world suffered famines, earthquakes, (as the world was divided after the flood, as seen in 1 Chronicles 1:19, which ties Genesis 11:16, which happened after the flood and the confusion of languages in Babel) and wars and in the book of Revelation the world is going to suffer famines, earthquakes and wars (Matthew 24:7), there is going to be a nation that is going to make the whole world rich, that is going to be the mother of all abominations (Revelation 17:5), just like USA (biggest producer of porn, drugs are legal now, abortions are legal now, guns are everywhere, all TV shows feature as many blasphemies as possible, allow procedures that "change" the sex of kids, the whole country is build around money and we cannot follow God and money at the same time, as we are going to value one more than the other -Matthew 6:24-) that is going to kill many saints (just like the catholic church has been doing –and will do- across the story) that sits over 7 mountains (Revelation 17:9) just like Rome, city in which is located the Vatican, she "was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries" (Revelation 17:4) just like the deity of Mary is portrayed in many paintings and statues about her, she is also described as a great prostitute, just like the deity of Mary, because when Israel was following other gods, they were, according to God, prostituting themselves with these gods (an example of this can been in Judges 2:16-19.
16 Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders. 17 Yet they would not listen to their judges but prostituted themselves to other gods and worshiped them. This kingdom of Babylon was this big that when Daniel interpreted a dream of his king Nebuchadnezzar he said in Daniel 2:37-38
37 Your Majesty, you are the king of kings. The God of heaven has given you dominion and power and might and glory; 38 in your hands he has placed all mankind and the beasts of the field and the birds in the sky. Wherever they live, he has made you ruler over them all. You are that head of gold.
USA is the country of the skyscrapers (just like the tower of Babel, which was trying to reach the heavens) they have a language that is the universal language, English, and once that every one talk it, they are going to follow the steps of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9). Babylon the Great is going to die, as fire coming from heaven is going to destroy it, as seen in Revelation 18:8 (just like it happened in Genesis 19 in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah).
Later, Jesus is going to come back and is going to execute judgment over the world and all the wicked ones are going to die, as seen in Revelation 19:11-21 (just like it happened in Genesis 7 and 8 during the flood) and finally, the world is going to be reunited with God, all the saints, free of sin, after accepting the sacrifice of Jesus Christ our LORD are going to take possession of the world, and all of us, the saved, are going to be reunited with the LORD once again for 1000 years, as seen in Revelation 20:1-6 and in Genesis 2:7-25 when God rested in the 7 day:

8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
After that, Satan is going to be freed from his prison and is going to fool the nations, as seen in Revelation 20:7-10 when Satan was freed and in Genesis 3 when Satan tempted Eve to sin against God and finally, the whole heaven and earth are going to disappear, as seen in Revelation 20:11, and a new heaven and earth are going to be created, as seen in Revelation 21:1 and in Genesis 1:1 when God created the heavens and earth and The Spirit of God was hovering over the waters In Genesis 1:2, and the waters represent peoples, multitudes, nations and languages, letting us that the people sealed with the Holy Spirit of God are going to be the ones possessing the new earth and heaven that is going to be created, as seen in Revelation 17:15
The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages.
Also, the river of the water of life and the tree of life are going to be present in the New Jerusalem that is going to come down from heaven and are going be located in the middle of the great street of the city (Revelation 22:1-2), just like the tree of life was located in the middle of the garden of Eden and "A river watering the garden flowed from Eden" was also present there, as seen in Genesis 2:9-14.
Isaiah 45:20-21
20 “Gather together and come; assemble, you fugitives from the nations. Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood, who pray to gods that cannot save. 21 Declare what is to be, present it— let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me.

If you pay attention and you take Genesis from the end to the beginning (chapters 50 to 1) and Revelation from the beginning to the end (chapters 1 to 22) they match perfectly.
In Genesis the world starts with God creating the earth and heaven and the man free of sin, humans become wicked and God destroyed the whole world with the flood (Genesis 7 and 8), the city of Babel (after which comes, Babylon –which conquered Israel in the times of the prophet Daniel- and Babylon the great, which is a city, a religious system –the catholic church- and a deity, in this case Mary) was created, in this days the world only talked one language and they were building a "tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and the world" and the world suffered famines, earthquakes, (as the world was divided after the flood, as seen in 1 Chronicles 1:19, which ties Genesis 11:16, which happened after the flood and the confusion of languages in Babel) and wars and in the book of Revelation the world is going to suffer famines, earthquakes and wars (Matthew 24:7), there is going to be a nation that is going to make the whole world rich, that is going to be the mother of all abominations (Revelation 17:5), just like USA (biggest producer of porn, drugs are legal now, abortions are legal now, guns are everywhere, all TV shows feature as many blasphemies as possible, allow procedures that "change" the sex of kids, the whole country is build around money and we cannot follow God and money at the same time, as we are going to value one more than the other -Matthew 6:24-) that is going to kill many saints (just like the catholic church has been doing –and will do- across the story) that sits over 7 mountains (Revelation 17:9) just like Rome, city in which is located the Vatican, she "was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries" (Revelation 17:4) just like the deity of Mary is portrayed in many paintings and statues about her, she is also described as a great prostitute, just like the deity of Mary, because when Israel was following other gods, they were, according to God, prostituting themselves with these gods (an example of this can been in Judges 2:16-19.
