2024.06.02 21:11 TheOneWithDoggo Boys Night out Alternate Ending

(Warning, this is an alternate ending to the Boys Night Out Concept, if you haven’t read it yet, please do so.)

A car rolled into the McDonald's parking lot, its engine humming softly as it came to a stop. Inside, the tension was thick. “You're lucky I was able to bail you and your buddies out, Adam," Mike said, his voice tinged with exasperation. “Yeah, thanks for that Mike,” Adam replied. “No problem, sorry we couldn’t bail out your other friend,” Mike answered. “Owen? Don’t worry, I’ll deal with him eventually.” Adam said. “Well, we’re at a McDonald’s, you want anything?” Mike asked. “...You know what? I can go for a Big Mac.” Adam stated. “How could you go for a Big Mac right now?” Oskar asked. “Listen we had an eventful night, I need a bite to eat,” Adam replied. DS Chimed in. “You know I am pretty hungry,” DS said. “I guess I am too, but I'd rather have Chicken Nuggets,” Isaiah said. “Right, let's go in,” Mike stated.

After the quick intermission, the car stopped at Adam’s house. "Thanks again for the help, Mike," Adam said, leaning in through the passenger window. "No problem. Good luck getting your friend out," Mike replied, giving a small wave before driving off into the night. The trio headed into the house. Adam turned to his friends, a mix of exhaustion and relief on his face. "Well, that was f*cking crazy." Isaiah shook his head in disbelief. "I agree. Can’t believe things went south that fast." "Yep," Oskar added simply. As they walked further into the house, Abby emerged from one of the rooms, her eyes widening as she saw them. "Oh, hey guys." Adam blinked in surprise. "Oh, hey Abby. When did you get here?" "Not too long ago," Abby replied, leaning against the doorframe. "Eleanor told me you guys went for a night out?" "Yeah," Oskar said, avoiding eye contact. "It was crazy." "It was insane," Isaiah said, his voice still carrying the weight of the night's events. DS stayed quiet, his eyes downcast. Abby looked around, her gaze searching. "So, where’s Owen?" Adam's face turned serious. "Owen’s in federal prison." Abby's smile dropped, replaced by a look of shock and anger. "What?" she asked, her voice rising. "DUDE!" Oskar shouted, wide-eyed. "What? She was going to find out eventually!" Adam exclaimed defensively. Abby’s face flushed with anger. "How the f**k did my boyfriend get sent to federal prison?" DS responded calmly, "Long story." "Yeah," Adam added, "but a pal of mine happened to be in the area and bailed us out."

Abby’s anger flared. "Well, why the f**k didn’t he bail Owen out then?!" Isaiah took a step back as Abby looked like she might tackle them. DS tried to explain, "It was the day he got paid and he didn’t wanna lose all his money, so someone had to stay." "Dude!" Adam shouted, exasperated. Abby glared at them, her fists clenched. "So you just left him there? Unbelievable." Adam raised his hands in a placating gesture. "Listen, we didn’t want to leave him there, I’m gonna see if I could get him out.” Abby stared. “You better, or I swear to god I will kill you.” Adam’s eyes went black. “I’d like to see you fucking try.” Abby became unsettled before storming out of the house. “What was that about?” Oskar shrugged. “I’m not sure but I need to go handle this,” Adam replied.

A few days later, Adam found himself outside Abby’s apartment. "You sure this is the place?" he asked, looking up at the building. Yeah," came a voice from behind him. Adam sighed and knocked on the door. The door creaked open a bit. "A-Abby?" he called tentatively. Before he knew what was happening, Abby grabbed him and dragged him into the apartment, throwing him onto the ground. "You have big f**king balls to come here after the sh*t you pulled," she growled. Adam got up, seemingly not too phased by what just happened. “Calm down, I came to sa-” Abby cut him off. "Calm down?!" she repeated, her voice shrieking. She cackled a wild, unhinged sound. "CALM DOWN?! DON’T TELL ME TO F**KING CALM DOWN, YOU SON OF A B*TCH. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE AWAY FROM SOMEONE YOU LOVE FOR SO DAMN LONG!" Her voice was filled with rage and desperation, echoing off the walls of the small apartment. Adam looked worried before his eyes turned black. He looked angry. “Daring today, are we?” Adam asked. He was in front of Abby in an instant towering over her. “You should be grateful. He’s going out of his way to save your little boyfriend, yet you treat him like shit at any turn. We could have killed you. Remember that. We could kill you and Owen anytime we want,” Adam said, but it wasn’t him. It was like another being speaking through him. Abby backed up, her anger disappearing and fear growing. “He doesn’t hate you. BUT WE DO. WE ALL HATE YOU.” Abby’s eyes widened in terror as she took another step back, bumping into a table. Her breathing quickened, her eyes darting around as if looking for an escape. "Wh-what are you?" she whispered, her voice trembling.“We are Many. We are Legion. We are his protectors. We are GOD.”Adam blinked and shook his head, seemingly coming back to himself. “Huh? What happened? Abby?” Adam asked. He reached for her but Abby flinched. “Please, don’t touch me,” Abby requested, her voice trembling. Adam moved his hand back, looking confused and concerned. “S-S-Sorry.” Abby took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. “Just... please get Owen back.” Adam gave a hesitant thumbs up and left the apartment, his mind reeling from the encounter. As he walked away, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something inside him had changed, and not for the better.

A few days later, Adam found himself at the warden's desk. Next to him was a cell, inside which sat Owen. The warden, a man with a large top hat, mustache, tie, and golden bracelet, regarded them coolly. "So, since he’s been here, his bail did go down a little bit. It used to be $1000, but it's been lowered to around $800," the warden said. "Bloody hell..." Adam responded. “Thanks for coming to try to bail me out Adam,” Owen said from the cell. “Yeah no problem, I think Abby is going batsh*t insane being away from you for so long anyway,” Adam replied. “If you want, we can set it up where we do that thing where you pay in 4, just know if you miss one we WILL come back for him.” The Warden said. “Are you allowed to do that?” Owen asked. "Yes," the warden replied curtly. “No I don’t think so, listen I don’t really have $800 lying around..” Adam began. “Well, you better sh!t gold! Cause if you don’t get the money, he ain’t coming out Honey!” The Warden said. There was a silence in the room. Adam's eyes darkened again. "Don’t call me that again," he ordered, his voice low and menacing. "Noted," the warden said, looking slightly unnerved. “Adam don’t you have a job, why don’t you bail me out with that Money?” Owen suggested. “I don’t get paid until next week,” Adam said. “Great, come back next week then and bail him out, it’ll be $600 next week.” The Warden said. "I don’t get paid that much. I get paid $300 every two weeks. Plus, my mom takes $200 of it for savings and stuff, so I’m left with $100," Adam explained. “Your mom is odd.” Owen said. “You don’t know the half of it. Are you sure there is nothing else we can do, like nothing at all?” Adam asked. “Why can’t you make me wash dishes or something, restaurants do that,” Owen suggested. “Yeah that would be a better option, why can’t he wash dishes?” Adam asked. “If he washes dishes, he’s gonna need to be here for an extra two weeks, maybe even a month.” The Warden stated. “Ok, when is the bail going down?” Adam asked. “It goes down…I think every 3 weeks.” The Warden replied. “God Damn it, Owen..” Adam began. “Listen, Listen, alright? Hear me out: Let us keep him, for a little bit longer, he’s supposed to be sentenced for around 5 months, that is the longest we could keep him since he’s 12. And the lowest the bail will go is $150. But to get there, the wait is going to be a little bit longer.” The Warden stated. “How long will it be?” Adam asked. “Six Months.” The Warden said. “You just said the longest you could keep him is 5 months!” Adam exclaimed. “My Prison, My rules, b*tch.” The Warden said. “Adam, I really don’t want to be here any longer than I have to, just pay the $800 so I can go,” Owen begged. “I’m gonna be completely honest with you Owen I don’t think this guy knows how Bails work. I don’t even know how Bails work, but if that’s how it works that's horrendous.” Adam admitted. “How much did Mike have to pay to get you and the others out?” Owen asked. “I don’t even remember, since it was on the same day, it was probably around $1000.” Adam guessed. “It was actually $2000.” The Warden corrected. “Well, how about you call up Mike again and have him bail me out?” Owen asked. “Mike bailed us out the same day he got paid, so the $2000 was more than half of his paycheck.” Adam stated. “Oh jeez. By now he problem spent the rest on his rent and stuff, so that’s out of the question.” Owen said defeated. “You don’t need to take him home today, we can keep him here a little longer, we’re taking GOOD care of him.” The Warden said. “No your not I’m starving over here,” Owen said. “We’re giving you the food you're just not eating it!” The Warden yelled. “Owen, why aren’t you eating the food?” Adam asked. “You see the food? I’m not eating THAT.” Owen stated. “Fair, I don’t wanna know where that’s been.” Adam said. Just then, a ringtone went off in the building. “Oh? Is that you?” The Warden asked. “Oh crap it's my Dad I gotta take this, sorry. Where’s the nearest bathroom?” Adam asked. “Oh, when you leave this room it's down the hall, to the left. Hard to miss it.” The Warden said. “Alright got it, thank you.” Adam replied.

Adam got to the bathroom and answered the phone. “Hey, Jack,” Adam said. “Why did you call me your dad?” Jack asked. “I couldn’t just say that Jack Walten is calling me, probably would raise suspicion,” Adam stated. “Fair. Any luck?” Jack asked. “Nope, Warden isn’t making it any easier,” Adam replied sadly. “That’s really unfortunate. You know I actually have an Idea on how we could get him out.” Jack chimed. “Really? How?” Adam asked. There was silence for a bit as Adam realized what Jack was suggesting. “Oh god no,” Adam said bluntly. “Listen, it will be quick, we promise,” Jack stated. “...Fine, just don’t hurt anyone,” Adam begged. “We won’t, quick question,” Jack asked. “Shoot,” Adam said. “Can we knock out Owen?” Jack asked. “Yeah go ahead, it would be hard to explain otherwise,” Adam said.

“Ah, so that's what happened?” The Warden asked. “Yeah, it got insane,” Owen stated. “Wow, not gonna lie it sounds like a little much to put you in here.” The Warden Admitted. “2023 I’m telling ya,” Owen said. That’s when they heard something. It sounded like Music. And it was getting closer. “What’s that music?” The Warden asked. “Is that the Mario ‘85 RUN theme?” Owen asked. That’s when the door burst open, a monster growling, his wings out in a defensive manner. The tail Pounding against the ground, the Maw wide open, black like a void. “What the f**k is that thing?!” The Warden asked. The Beast grabbed the Warden and threw him aside. He then turned his attention to Owen. “...Oh.” Owen sighed. The Beast rushed at him, roaring.

“Wake up man we got a city to burn,” Adam said. Owen woke up. He was no longer in the prison, but sitting on the stairs of Adam’s house. “Wha- Where..How did I get here?” Owen asked. “Mike came by and bailed you out, turned out he didn’t use all of his money. You fell asleep in the car.” Adam said. Owen looked around, and blinked in confusion, trying to process everything. "Wait, Mike bailed me out? What about the warden? And... the monster?" he asked, still groggy from sleep. Adam shrugged. "I don't know about any monster. Maybe you were just dreaming." Owen rubbed his eyes, trying to shake off the remnants of his dream. "Yeah, must have been a weird one. Why are we waiting out here?" Adam looked down the road. “Waiting for Abby.” Owen smiled. “Abby is coming?” Adam nodded. “Yeah, I called her a bit after we got here, you were still asleep.” Owen breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you for coming back.” Adam gave a thumbs up. “No problem bud.” That’s when Adam’s ears twitched. He turned and noticed Abby standing there. “You got here fast,” Adam stated. She rushed past him and hugged Owen. “OWEN! YOUR OK!!” Abby said, getting mushy. Owen returned the hug, feeling a surge of warmth and relief flood through him. "Yeah, I'm okay, Abby. Thanks to Adam and Mike," he said, smiling gratefully at Adam. Abby pulled back, her eyes filled with tears. "I was so worried about you," she admitted, her voice trembling. Adam chuckled. “Never thought I’d see you cry.” Adam joked. Abby smiled. “I don’t cry often,” Abby admitted. Owen got up, holding Abby’s hand. “Well, shall we go home…my princess?” Owen asked blushing. Abby giggled. “Yes, my prince!” Abby exclaimed. Adam chuckled. “Get a room love birds.” Adam joked. Abby and Owen stared at Adam, then back at eachother, smiling sheepishly. “See you later man, thanks again.” Owen thanked. Adam gave a thumbs up. “No problem.”

Oh By the way this isn’t canon.

2024.06.02 21:07 Hanhonhon The Pros & Cons of Ronald Reagan's Presidency

Just as a quick disclaimer before I get into this exercise, Ronald Reagan is one of the most controversial and debated US presidents in political/historical discussions for his actions that impact the state of current day America. I'm a person in their twenties so I have my own biases that determines how I see these topics, but nonetheless I'll try my best to see both sides on a lot of these issues. If there's something that you feel that is misrepresented, incorrect, or flat-out missed I encourage you to say so in the comments. Just be respectful towards one another

Reagan Pros

- Communication Ability - When discussing the greatest orators to ever be president in US history, Ronald Reagan typically gets listed as being one of the top due to his speech delivery style and charismatic public persona. This isn't a statement that suggests that I necessarily agree with his rhetoric or politics, but I personally see him as the most effective speaker of all time. In the short term he provided an impression of strong leadership that enabled many Americans to trust the government again after a period low confidence for over a decade. In the long term, Reagan truly exemplified how the skill of communication can build a huge part of a modern president's reputation and legacy. For all time great speeches check out the 1987 Brandenburg Gate Address, or his statement following the Challenger disaster in 1986. The last point that I want to mention is that he had greater interpersonal skills than someone like J. Carter which made him a much more popular, effective, and transformative politician when working with the opposing political interests. Several bipartisan reforms were accomplished in large part due to his political acumen
- Contributions to the end of the Cold War - Following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, Cold War tensions were reinvigorated between the USA and USSR which effectively birthed a coalition led by RR who wanted to reverse previous efforts from the US government to limit the amount of nuclear weapons in its arsenal through SALT. Reagan also came into office as a hardliner strict on communism who later referred to the Soviet Union as an "evil empire", and indicated that much of government spending would be directed towards defense ($144 billion in 1980 to $322 billion by 1989). As such, funding for nuclear weapons technology sharply increased for new missiles and defense systems. The most notable new development in this period here was the Strategic Defense Initiative (derisively known as "Star Wars") that was a project to detect & protect the US against potential nuclear missile attacks. Critics noted that SDI was technologically infeasible, too expensive, and it would be dissolved by 1993; nonetheless the military spending applied pressure as leverage for the Soviet Union to sign nuclear disarmament treaties that would be key towards reducing tensions onto the end of the Cold War
Now I'm of the opinion that the collapse of the Soviet Union had more to do with internal economic and political factors rather than actions set forward by R. Reagan or the USA (I still think it played a big role), or that it was due to the idea that the USSR was bankrupted from the Arms Race. However I believe RR still deserves credit for forming diplomatic ties with Soviet leader M. Gorbachev. Despite the increased tensions in his first term to 1960s standards, they decreased during the second term as a result of several summits to accumulate towards the INF Treaty in 1987 that crucially eliminated all short-and-intermediate range missiles. Additionally, Reagan laid the groundwork for the START Treaty (signed by G. HW Bush in 1991) that would bar the deployment of thousands of nuclear warheads and ICBMS. In the end all of these events would help the US rise to the position as the leading world superpower by the 1990s after the conclusion of the 40+ year Cold War, with the menace of nuclear war coming to an end as a result
For more direct Soviet-related and nuclear policy positives for Reagan, he played a large role in the Soviet agreement to withdraw from Afghanistan in 1988-89, another development that was central to indicate the end of the Cold War. RR also lifted J. Carter's grain embargo against the USSR within the first three months of his tenure that was seen as a previous failure towards applying international condemnation. Reagan also signed policies setting protocol for nuclear wastes, and amendment to superfund cleanups
- Reagan's economic policies are credited as bringing lasting recovery throughout the 80s decade - This point is a major source of controversy in political discussions, again this section will attempt to see both sides of the argument, so bear with me here as the negatives will be discussed later. Reagan came into office during a time of significant economic lows with inflation existing at 13.5%, rising unemployment that would peak at 10.8% in 1982, and a recession within his first year. As a response to stagflation he favored supply-side economic policies inspired by the 1920s C. Coolidge era based in major income tax-cuts, government deregulations, cuts to social spending, etc... including an increase of defense spending. While this agenda is famously known as Reaganomics, I feel like there are misconceptions in regard to his tax policies where some taxes were actually increased in order to gain government revenues. But overall the goal of the framework was to boost economic activity by ideally stimulating demand and trade through tax-cuts on all levels
The first action in this plan was the Economic Recovery Tax Act of 1981 that cut the top marginal tax rate from 70% to 50% over three years, the bottom rate from 14% to 11%, and reductions to capital gains, estate, and corporate taxes. Although it caused high budget deficits and low government revenues from the policy, TEFRA was enacted in the next year to reverse many components of the ERT, especially by tightening tax loopholes to increase revenues. Further tax loophole-closes and rule changes were accomplished by amendments to Social Security in 1983, DEFRA in '84, and OBRA in '87. Nonetheless $375 billion was still received by taxpayers in cuts following TEFRA. In 1986 the Tax Reform Act further set cuts with a reduction of top marginal rate from 50% to 28% (though capital gains taxes increased by 8%), it simplified the tax code, and importantly raised the lowest tax bracket from 11% to 15% which reportedly removed six million Americans from the income tax roll. The top-marginal tax rate has since remained at level below 40% ever since ERT in 1981. The last thing to mention for taxes is Reagan ending oil/gas price controls in 1981, and lowering the oil windfall profits tax the same year until an eventual end in '88. The move was a key reason behind an "oil glut" and significant price fall during the mid 80s that benefitted the US (at the expense of other nations), but it actually undercut domestic oil drilling. As for the matter of inflation, Reagan is credited for closely sticking by Fed-chair Paul Volcker (appointed by Carter in '79) and his tight money policies that broke the back of inflation, even nominating him to a second term
Supporters of Ronald Reagan and his neoliberal economic policies give him a large amount of credit for the prosperity of the mid-to-late 1980s that can be seen in several statistics. While these metrics certainly aren't the be-all-end-all to economic realities and should be considered in context; GDP grew at a rate around 3.5% up to 7% each year, the unemployment rate bottomed out at 5.3% by 1988, federal receipts actually increased by $275 billion throughout the tenure despite large budget deficits, and that real median personal/family incomes on average were both increased by $4400-4700. However, critics and opponents perceive Reaganomics a failure for promoting a lasting economic influence that has lead to major wealth inequality, a favoritism of the American people towards tax cuts, high budget deficits, a steady decline in Union membership, etc... that has led to deterioration of the middle class and blue collar jobs out of America. There will be more on this later in "cons"
- Amnesty for illegal immigrants - The 80s were a historical high for illegal immigration to the United States where Ronald Reagan actually supported their integration and legalization as a response through the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. This is coming from someone who is pro on the issue, I totally get it if others have different opinions, but this law granted amnesty for three million immigrants who entered the US prior to 1982 and were still living in the country. It also strengthened the standard of hiring practices from employers by making the purposeful employment of aliens illegal
- Bipartisan reforms to Social Security - By the early 80s there was severe doubts whether or not the program of SS could survive in the immediate future (even by '83), while originally RR sought cuts to the program, he organized a bipartisan commission on reform which came up with the proposals to delay COLAS, change tax-rate schedules in the upcoming 6 years, and raise a SS-income tax on high-income individuals to gain short-term revenues
- Civil Liberties Act of 1988 - This law provided reparations to Japanese-American and Aleut people who were victims of internment during WW2. The government pledged to issue an acknowledgment and apology of the injustices committed, including a $20,000 compensation grant ($53k in 2024) for over 82,000 still-living people who experienced the awful travesty
- Firearm Owners Protection Act - I'll be completely honest, I've got no opinion on gun ownership laws. But this one withdrew several gun restrictions set by the 1967 Mulford Act with the backing of the NRA, though machine guns produced after 1986 were banned for personal use. Later in his post presidency he would throw his support towards the 1993 Brady Bill
- Martin Luther King Jr Day was made a federal holiday in 1982
- Other foreign policy positives - After Israel conducted a siege in Beirut and bombing campaigns against Lebanon in the 1982 Lebanon War, Reagan strongly opposed the actions taken and likened the event as a "holocaust". While facing resistance from the Israeli PM, he successfully applied pressure to stop the bombings. Additionally, he was the first president to make note of the Armenian Genocide that happened in 1918
- Signing of the Montreal Protocol - The MP was an international treaty that attempted to address the huge hole in the Earth's ozone layer by gradually banning substances that were responsible for its depletion, specifically CFCs or HFCs
Well...

Reagan Cons:

- Reagan's economic policies are blamed for leading to a major wealth inequality gap in the last 50 years - I would argue that the biggest legacy from Ronald Reagan's presidency when discussing it today is centered around his neoliberal economic policies that would be highly influential and similarly followed by future presidential administrations. If you wish to see some evidence of wealth inequality growing in the last 4-5 decades, I suggest reading up on this Pew Research article that examines the phenomenon through multiple metrics. Going back to Reagan, there is first the matter of taxes where I see him as having a high influence towards the American public's favoritism of low-taxes and tax cuts as one aspect of a potential source of inequality. It's important to get it out of the way that trickle-down economics isn't actually a real economic theory, it's a term that pokes fun of supply-side economics. Moving on beyond taxes there are several other areas within this argument to examine. One of the biggest topics in this regard is the SEC legalizing stock-buybacks in 1982 (rule 10b-18), I consider this a major negative for the status of worker wages/incomes where corporate profits became more directed towards stock values and the enrichment stockholders. There will be much more on how the poor was hurt through many policies in the next three points
- Massive increase to national debt and large yearly budget deficits - From the span of 1981-1989, the national debt nearly tripled as it went from $997 billion to $2.85 trillion which in large part had to do with increased public expenditures, reduced revenue from tax cuts, and a shift towards mass-borrowing to cover for federal deficits that led to the US becoming the world's largest debtor nation away from the largest creditor. The deficit each year hovered around 150-220 million dollars, although the deficit as a percentage of GDP decreased from 5.9% in 1983 to 2.7% in 1989. While it is not this premise that I take the most issue with, the budget deficits were alleviated to some extent through cuts on social programs
- Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1981 - In an effort to decrease government spending, this law rolled back several Great Society programs and other federal assistances such as food stamps, federal guaranteed student loans program school lunch program, public transport, Veterans Program, Medicaid, etc... The OBRA most importantly ended direct federal funding for community-based mental health centers, it is seen as a serious cause in the increase in homelessness in 80s America going forward. Reagan also said (paraphrasing) that "homelessness is a choice". However it's important to note that this law passed at veto-proof majorities, but nonetheless it cut out many forms of government assistance for the poor
- Union-busting - The most notorious labor strike to come out of the 1980s was the PATCO strike in '81 for thousands of air-traffic controllers who were attempting to gain more improved working standards (32 hour work week, $10k pay increase, better benefits). In response to the disruption Reagan threatened to fire the workers unless they returned to work within two days, as it is illegal for federal workers to engage in work stoppages. Over 10,000 air traffic controllers did not budge on their demands and were promptly fired by Ronald Reagan. I might catch flak for this but I'm actually of the opinion that what terms strikers were seeking was highly unrealistic, and the response from the president shouldn't be seen as too unreasonable given the circumstances. Still, the event was a further blow to Union membership for workers in the US (a trend since the 1960s) as the government wasn't willing to negotiate with striking workers as done in the previous decades. What this indicated is that the working class increasingly lost negotiation power to negotiate more favorable wages
There are other economic negatives to acknowledge stemming from this time period, one being a failure to reduce the poverty level from 13% that remained unchanged throughout the tenure. In fact, poverty actually increased to 15% in '83, but then went back down again to 13% by 1988. This period is also notable for a greater inclination towards offshoring jobs given labor rule changes, something that would come ahead in the future decades (especially with Ron's push for NAFTA to come to fruition under GHWB and B. Clinton). Otherwise, this is a brief overview into the argument for how Reaganomics has set the USA on a path towards increasing wealth inequality that has helped diminished the middle class, and led to many economic pitfalls experienced in the modern era. Personally I am not a supporter of Reagan's economic policies and think they played a significant enough role cultivating poor economic conditions experienced in the modern era, and the influence for high politicians to follow a similar neoliberal agenda. Although I think it's way too much of an oversimplification to chalk up all modern economics problems on Ronald Reagan, it's something I see fairly often online. From my POV I consider Reaganomics as a reasonable idea in the short term to boost a struggling economy, but bad as a long term economic policy outlook
- Negative deregulations - There are some deregulatory actions taken by R. Reagan that I think were a good thing, but there are several that I think were ultimately damaging or distasteful to society. The most notable one in my opinion was the continued deregulation of the Savings and Loans Association through, the Garn-St. Germain Depository Institutions Act that was passed to help save the industry and help the housing market, but unfortunately the savings and loans crisis of the 80s/90s led to a 32% failure of associations in large part to issuing junk bonds and risky investments. This policy is also seen as a contributing factor towards the 2008 financial crisis 20+ years down the road, but this premise is disputed.
I also disagree with the deregulation of the broadcast industry which saw the FCC entirely repeal the Fairness Doctrine (leading to the standards of networks like Fox News), but children's television became far less restricted which saw entire cartoons exist pretty much as toy ads, or the marketing of junk food
- Poor record on environmentalism - Since the memo for the federal government was one of pro-business, pro-cuts to government agencies, and deregulation, it also extended to weakened environmental policies that enacted spending cuts of the EPA. RR himself favored decreased regulations on pollution, and failed to renew the Clean Air Act throughout his time in office. One of the most controversial cabinet members was Sec. of the Interior James Watt who was anti-environmentalist. and opened up coastal waters to oil drilling or coal mining. JW was later convicted due to a lobbying scandal within the HUD
- Response to AIDS crisis - R. Reagan and his administration's response to the unfolding AIDS/HIV epidemic is one of the most controversial talking points to come out of the tenure where people allege that he outright ignored the crisis, which not only promoted the spread of disinformation on the disease, but even worse contributed to the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans that especially devastated the gay community. On the other hand, defenders repudiate many of these claims with evidence of actions that RR had somewhat of a proactive, but covert response to the crisis. As for my personal take on this subject I definitely think it's a low point for Reagan's presidency, he was slow to react to the crisis to a considerable extent, he should have listened more to appointees like E. Koop, and that there were PR blunders that aged badly. On the other hand, I remain skeptical over the extent on how much a different president would be an improvement over Reagan given the social attitudes of the time. It's a very touchy issue to this day
To get into critiques, the first administration response to the epidemic was from the Press Secretary L. Speakes who repeatedly laughed at questions concerning AIDS in 1982. In the early years the CDC originally struggled with researching the disease on fairly limited funding due to spending cuts of the organization which may have delayed the discovery of the HIV virus (officially confirmed in April 1984), including challenges to support for funding from congress, and even the Reagan administration's religious slants that made promoting AIDS awareness/prevention more rigid (abstinence-only sex education). It wasn't until September of 1985 until RR made the first public statement on it in a press conference outlining a mass funding plan, but he expressed sympathy with parents who were scared of sending their kids to school with other kids who had the virus, though the CDC reported back in 1983 that the disease can't be transmitted through basic touch. There are more criticisms here to discuss, but this summarizes many talking points against Reagan's handling of the HIV/AIDS crisis
For the defenses of Reagan in response to the grief, he is praised for his appointment of Surgeon Gen. Everett Koop who took on important initiatives promoting AIDS awareness and infection-prevention plans in a mass mailing campaign. Contrary to popular belief funding for AIDS from congress and signed by RR was actually granted in 1983, albeit to a small extent as it was only $2.6 million, but in late 1985 $190 million in AIDS research was approved ($70 million more than what the administration requested). An important positive came in relation to treatment where the FDA in this era had relaxed their drug-approval policies, meaning that the field of medicine could push HIV/AIDS drug-treatments to patients faster than before, and skip the licensing process
- Escalation of the War on Drugs - This is another point that is judged purely on modern political beliefs that form my personal bias on the topic, and over 30 years of hindsight to go off of. Personally I disagree with the late 20th century efforts to crack down on drug-related offenses and the intense police, military, and political pressure to wage the war. The 1980s are notable for being the beginning of a huge spike in incarceration rates in large part to non-violent drug offenses that disproportionately impacted black Americans and other minority groups, sources claim that drug offenses went from 50k to over 400k by 1997. Now it's important to note that the initiatives were massively popular throughout American society, and experienced overwhelming bipartisan support where every related law such as the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984 (increased federal penalties for drug distribution and possession, mainly cannabis), Anti-Drug Abuse Acts of 1986 & 1988 (increased mandatory minimum sentencing for drug offenses. $1.7 billion in funding for the efforts, Office of National Drug Policy created, etc.) all passed at veto-proof majorities. The foundation of "War on Drugs" was also created by R. Nixon and helped by his predecessors. But still, Ronald and Nancy Reagan were key leaders in all of these expanded efforts, particularly with the "Just Say No" anti-drug PR campaign where much of it comes off as bizarre
More on incarceration topics, the 80s were seen as a huge push towards privatized prisons which would exponentially grow in the 90s decade due to the support of tough-on-crime legislators. I also disagree with the increased militarization of the police as seen with Public Law 97-86, though also passed with a veto-proof majority. There is a potential layer of hypocrisy with the federal government where many writers and conspiracy theorists allege that the CIA was at the very least least complicit in the drug trade perpetrated by Nicaraguan connections, mainly those involving the backed Contra rebel group. It leads into the next point
- Iran-Contra Scandal - One of the biggest sources of controversy within Ronald Reagan's administration is this event which is considered one of the greatest scandals in presidential history. Prior to 1980 J. Carter imposed an arms embargo on Iran in response to the Iran Hostage Crisis, Reagan vowed to continue it and encouraged upon other nations to do so through Operation Staunch in '83. However senior officials conducted secret missiles sales to Iran (with the help of Israel) in attempt to secure the release of seven US hostages in Lebanon, and illegally used a portion of the proceeds to fund the anti-communist Contra rebel organization in Nicaragua. The assistance to the Contras had been rendered illegal through the 1982 Boland Amendment to prevent an overthrow of the Sandinista government, but the perpetrators from the NSC & CIA willingly circumvented congress through this complicated scheme which all came to public attention in November of 1986
Thirteen men who were involved to varying extent were indicted for crimes related to the affair, where five of the most notorious members such as Sec. of Defense C. Weinberger or National Security Adviser R. McFarlane were pardoned by George HW Bush in 1992. Other key officials such as Oliver North, who took the fall for the event, had their charges overturned, or were granted immunity in exchange for testimony. As for Reagan's involvement or knowledge of the scandal in action, it continues to be disputed but O. North claimed that he fully knew and approved of the plans. It was a complete PR nightmare for RR that forced him to confront the reality of the situation in front of the American public in embarrassing fashions ("I don't recall"). In the end Reagan was cleared of any indictment based on a lack of concrete evidence, though recorded statements lead many to believe that he gave a greenlight on the operation. Iran-Contra was a major blow to his credibility and approval rating at the time, as such it also leads to the attitude that RR should have been impeached for the affair. Despite all of this, his popularity still prevailed in his post-presidency
- Support of brutally repressive dictators in Central & South America - A large element of Ronald Reagan's anti-communist agenda as indicated by the Reagan Doctrine was to support anti-communist factions throughout the world under a new wave of containment. While this foreign policy approach certainly wasn't unique to RR compared to other Cold War {residents, or that the opposing communist forces were innocent by any means (not trying to condone communism here), he still supported several dictators who were responsible for human rights abuses
One of the most notorious supported dictators was Efraín Montt who was the president and military leader of Guatemala during one of the worst periods of the country's civil war, where he was accused of committing genocide and terrible crimes against humanity against the Mayan People by the tens of thousands. The Reagan administration sent over $10 million in military aid, petitioned congress to reopen aid to the country when it was closed, and the POTUS himself personally backed Montt by saying he gets a "bum rap". Another criticism came for the support of the El Salvador military government who fought against the FMLN in the country's civil war. Again the FMLN unignorably murdered civilians too, but the other side formed death squads and committed all sorts of atrocities against people at a far more extensive rate. Then of course you have Nicaragua with the support of the Contra rebels to fight against the Sandinistas (also see mining operations in their waters, and an embargo that went against international law)
This event is only mentioned in "cons" for continuity reasons, but many consider the 8-day invasion of Grenada in 1983 justified where neighboring Caribbean nations asked for assistance in response to the military coup, the safety of six hundred American medical students was needed to be protected, and that there was suspicions that the construction of a huge airfield in the country was to be used for Soviet military interests. Despite the instance of 19 American soldiers killed, 24 Grenadian civilians killed, and hundreds wounded the operation was considered a success by many, and a morale boost to the US military after failures in Vietnam, Iran, and Lebanon. On the other hand the event generated international controversy where many allied nations like the UK or Canada questioned the legality of the affair
- The arming and CIA training of the Mujahideen in Afghanistan indirectly led to the rise of the Taliban & Al-Qaeda - The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan occurred prior to Reagan's presidency in 1979 where the US government approved of Operation Cyclone to phase out over $20 billion in funding for Afghan resistance groups. In the last Carter years the funding was fairly limited (>$1 million in 1979) but was planned to greatly expand each year necessary in the 80s to around $630 million per year in 1987. In reference to the Reagan Doctrine, the Soviet-Afghan War was arguably the most important conflict to direct attention towards as over 100,000 insurgents were trained from the efforts. Continuing onto the negatives over Islamic terrorism in the aftermath of the conflict, while it is true that groups like the Taliban evolved from the Mujahideen, the Northern Alliance who fought against and opposed the Taliban during the Afghan Civil Wars also rose from the same disparate group. With this instance, I believe that the rise of the situation with these groups were inevitable after a Soviet defeat, but the billions of US dollars in soldier training and weapons would unfortunately empower them as an indirect consequence of military backing, and lead to several major geopolitical conflicts involving the US in the years to come onto modern times
- Actions relating towards the Iran-Iraq War - After the Iranian Revolution in 1979, Iraq deemed it a prime opportunity to invade Iran to gain Western territory as a result of political turmoil and a lack of international support for the new rule. Originally the US stayed out of the conflict, then soon came to favor Iraq by 1982 due to a greater perceived threat apparent to the US in a potential Iranian victory. To me this seemed like a lose-lose situation on who to side with more as it was between Saddam Hussein versus Ayatollah Khomeini, but the US supplied several billion dollars in military/economic aid for Ba'athist Iraq throughout the war, and turned a blind eye against widespread human rights abuses committed against groups like the Kurdish people via chemical weapons. Despite this premise occurring for several years throughout the 80s, Reagan actually managed to supply both sides during the conflict as mentioned before through covert weapons deals. While all of this is messy enough, the US in one incident was very much hurt through an attack on the USS Stark in 1987 by Iraqi aircraft who supposedly mistaken the ship for being an Iranian tanker. 37 crewmen were killed and 21 wounded from two missiles that hit the frigate, Reagan showed no response against Iraq and blamed Iran as responsible for the whole ordeal
- Other negatives relating to foreign policy in the Middle East - In October of 1983, the Beirut Barracks Bombings occurred where hundreds of US military personnel were originally deployed on a peacekeeping operation during the Lebanese Civil War, 241 of them were killed as a result of two suicide bombings. The Islamic Jihad who were responsible for the attack accomplished their purpose as the MNF promptly withdrew from Lebanon, Ronald Reagan as a result was criticized for a weak response where he showed that the US would retreat from any form of aggression faced by Islamic terrorism. 6 months prior to the Barracks bombing, a *US embassy in Beirut was also bombed which killed 17 Americans.&& The last point to mention for Middle East topics is the *1986 Air Raids on Libya* in response to a discotheque bombing in West Berlin, where the retaliation happened on loose suspicions that Libyan agents and M. Gaddafi were behind the terrorist act. 45 Libyan soldiers and 15 civilians were killed
- Support for Apartheid Regime in South Africa - During the 1980s anti-Apartheid resistance in the country grew stronger due to a series of events and political repressions that became the center of international attention. While many in US congress were leaning more towards strict sanctions on the SA government, Reagan was put in a difficult situation from his POV where he saw the government as a key anti-communist ally engaged in proxy wars against neighboring countries. He called for weak measures condemning the government such as "constructive engagement" and minor restrictions, but faced heavy criticism for vetoing the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act. Congress overrode the veto with overwhelming bipartisan support
Other African foreign policies in the eighties that has been met with disdain is Reagan's backing of UNITA in Angola that has committed human rights abuses, and again I'm not trying to condone or defend the opposing MPLA for their own crimes, it's a terrible lose-lose situation like many other foreign policy affairs listed. The last point I want to mention is the continued support of Mobutu in Zaire and H. Habre in Chad for more African brutal dictators that the US condoned
- Continued the status quo for US support for repressive regimes in Southeast Asia - Many of these instances have roots before Reagan's time in office as they were either anti-communist or served US interests in some shape or form. As such, support for Suharto in Indonesia during the occupation of East Timor continued, and the administration approved of an unprecedented $300 million sale of arms was conducted in '86. Reagan stood by dictator F. Marcos in the Philippines despite evidence of violence and election fraud, though he changed course in a peaceful transition of power. Lastly, there was a flow of covert aid for the KPNLF in Cambodia which was composed of Khmer Rouge members
- Numerous other scandals within the Reagan Administration - Something that I'm surprised doesn't get discussed too often for the negatives of RR's presidency are the other instances of corruption or misdeeds from federal government officials. There is some misleading information in the following article, but here is the wiki detailing the scandals throughout the administration, particularly relating to the Dept. of Housing & Urban Development, the EPA, defense department, close secretaries, military officials, etc... Many of these indictments were either overturned, or were later pardoned by later presidents. But still, 28 people were convicted of crimes within this group. I'd go as far to say that Reagan had one of the most corrupt administrations, it was unfortunately a downside to his "delegator", hands-off management style, although none of these other scandals implicated Ron personally
Another terrible look from the admin came when they put forth a policy to provide tax exemptions for racially discriminatory, or segregated schools, but public backlash compelled a swift reversal of the decision. Continuing on a similar theme Reagan vetoed the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987 that required all institutions who receive federal funding to comply with civil rights rules/standards, congress overrode the veto. Additionally he called for an outlaw to desegregation busing as well, citing a necessity for a "freedom of choice" for parents and school children for what schools they attend
- The surveillance state expanded under Reagan - Exec. Order 1233 (1981) expanded the power of intelligence agencies like the CIA and FBI to spy on American citizens or foreign governments for security motivations, which would serve as one basis for the NSA to grow within the next 40+ years
- Misunderstandings related to presidency - These points aren't real negatives but I thought it was appropriate to put them here. At any rate, I've seen RR receive credit for the release of the 52 American hostages which concluded the Iran Hostage Crisis, I'm of the view that RR had virtually nothing to do with that happening beyond simply being elected, and that it was just a personal insult to Jimmy Carter from the Iranians. Reagan even credited Carter for the doing the legwork to get the people free. On the next point, it's something I see all the time but I truly do not believe (or at least remain skeptical) that Ronald Reagan was suffering from Alzheimer's Disease by his second term, we have no true way of confirming
- Attempts at Christianized policies - Many hold a disdain for Ron's large influence for aligning the Republican Party with the Evangelical movement and stricter social conservativism, as such I disagree with his attempts for a federal law to ban abortion, support for efforts to mandate a school prayer, or the push towards "abstinence-only sex education"
- Mixed legacy with Supreme Court appointments - Reagan successfully appointed four officials to SCOTUS in his tenure which most notably concerned Sandra Day O'Connor, W. Rehnquist was elevated to Chief Justice, then A. Scalia and A. Kennedy were nominated later. One failure in this respect is RR's insistence for the nomination of Robert Bork which strained relations between the POTUS and the Senate
- Ketchup became a vegetable
Ronald Reagan is one of the most controversial US presidents for his time in office that had a major impact on the political and economic direction of the country onto the late 20th century, which the ripples can still be seen today. The way that I see him, is that in many ways he came into office at the right time to provide short-term successes for long lasting economic issues, and inspired American on a level not experienced since JFK. However there are many domestic policies and foreign policy strategies that I simply can't get behind, which is influenced by my own biases and hindsight. So Reagan's grade ceiling to me is a C. Historians continue to rank him fairly high in the top 15, but you'll find all sorts of criticisms for his presidency on this website which generally tends to lean left. Apologies for more Reagan spam on this sub
Again if I missed anything or wish to dispute any of my claims, please say so. I will likely edit this post to update it with more information in the future. Thank you for reading. If you want to check out other pros/cons of all presidents up until this post, check here

2024.06.02 21:07 Ok_Rip_4208 How to play new Zoro (my guide)

How to play new Zoro (my guide)
I'm cooking currently with new Zoro (5*, ~150 supp%, Luffy set (atk+def). Not the best but works for me.
-Max attack on medals and use attacker set (you don't need hp or defense). You need to just keep dealing damage and maintain KOH state (he already got pretty good cap speed on his own).
-Use 1-2, 1-2 combo on normals. You'll easily get haki state.
-Use warlord support to keep KOH state longer. (If you dont have its fine).
-Always try to cap the second flag or go for middle flag to get longer early KOH state (you can use skill1 to dash to middle and cap the flag if there are no Droger's in match).
-Use skill 2 first (in 1v1 situations to lower enemies defense then use 1-2 normal combo to get Koh state). One of the best way to get KOH state.
Try to snipe enemies with low hp and one shot them with skill1 (ignores defense and long range skill)
-Remember three shield dodges of Seraphims and Alber don't count as attacks. You need to deal damage on enemy in row 4 times to get KOH state.
--Enemies to avoid fighting in current meta⚠️
S Snake and Klaw (try to go for one shot them with skill1)
**Don't fight S-Snake. She gets flames on her back very quick and three dodges, deals knocksback as well on normals. You won't be able to maintain KOH state against her and get petrified.
**Klaw got anti heal (biggest weakness of Zoro as he nullifies only immobilizing status effects).
-Beware of other Egghead Zoro's/Kalgara and light Oden. They can oneshot you with their skils even you're in KOH state.
Good luck and that's all I can remember right now. Not the best guide but just things I wanted to share👍
He's fun asf to play and cooks. One of the best units. Totally worth the bucks🔥

2024.06.02 21:03 Apprehensive-Cow6207 With everyone's emotions perhaps slightly cooled down now (probably not)....lets rank the top ten NYR players from this season - including playoffs

Just to try and get this series loss of my mind I decided to compile a list of who I believe were our top ten best players from this season. Let me know if y'all agree and what changes you'd possibly make! I'll be putting spoilers for each one for suspense.
1. Igor Shesterkin - If there's one thing that everyone should take away from these playoffs, It's that Igor is the best goalie in the world. Without Igor this team would be absolutely no where without him and in all reality probably not even make the playoffs and even if we did probably an instant first round exit. It can go without saying this man deserves a massive payday.
2. Artemi Panarin - As much as everyone hates Panarin for not showing up in the "big moments", it's still undeniable that he's still our best skater on this team. The regular season speaks for itself with 82 games played and 120 points and even in the playoffs he was a PPG player. It's not fair to discredit him just because he didn't show up in the big moments, especially when it seems like that the majority of the team as a whole. He's still going to be a superstar next year.
3. Adam Fox - There can absolutely be a case made that Fox is the best skater on this team. He was over a PPG during the regular season in the 72 games he did play and was as usual rock solid. Hopefully the rangers can find a way to give fox some more support.
4. Vincent Trocheck - I really don't know how it's been nearly 24 hours and Trocheck still hasn't been named captain of this team. Everything aside, Trocheck was beyond a massive asset for this team this season. Putting up a great regular season and playoffs too. I feel like he also really demonstrated he can be a great leader for this NYR team and should officially be when he gets the C on his jersey.
5. Chris Kreider - Kreider Continues to establish himself as one of the best and most loyal Rangers to ever wear a blueshirt uniform. He had a great season nearly being a PPG player and he had a good playoffs too. To be honest I'm not sure we'd get past Carolina if it wasn't for Kreider. One of the heart and souls of this team.
6. Alexis Lafreniere - It would be an absolute lie to say out of any NYR laf didn't have the most pressure on him going into this season. Laf was definitely the biggest wildcard of this team this season and he produced. He didn't quite put up "superstar" numbers during the regular season as he only had 57 points in 82 games but we have to keep in mind the limited PP action he had to as well with his breakout coming on later in the season. He absolutely was a monster during the playoffs being one of the main reasons we did make it this far. I feel like the next question with laf is can he actually reach that superstar level of hockey players? Can he become that consistent PPG player that shows up for the rangers every night? If he can, that would be beyond massive for the rangers cup chances next year.
7. Mika Zibanejad - UGH. Look, I know Mika is one of the players thats getting some of the biggest backlash right now but look, at the end of the day this was still a guy that put up nearly a PPG during the regular season and was a PPG during the playoffs. The obvious negatives about Mika is his consistency and ability to show up in big moments. It's frustrating because as a number 1 center you'd expect to be way more consistent but the reality is that's just not the case with Mika and probably won't ever be. Regardless he still is a solid player but not a guy that should be relied on to win you a championship. I think he's pretty obviously going to stay a New York Ranger for the majority of his contract barring some absurd trade happening so all we can do is just find a way to try and build better pieces around him.
8. Braden Schnider - I really have enjoyed watching Schnider develop this season, especially from these playoffs. With a defense that has a handful of liabilities, I think it's safe to say that Schnider isn't one of them. Schnider is going to be a real nice top 4 defensemen for this team long term but hopefully we can just find the right d-partner for him.
9. Barclay Goodrow - As much as the contract may look bad, I think it's proven how much of a vital asset Goodrow is to us winning, especially in the playoffs. Goodrow is one of the few guys on this team that's willing to go to the dirty areas and do the shit you'd expect other top players on your team to do. While Goodrow isn't ever going to be a big point producer he's still a great swiss army knife for this lineup and should be a reliable guy for the remainder of his contract.
10. Jonathan Quick - Lets be honest, when we signed Quick, I don't think anyone expected him to be above a 900 save % goalie. Even though Quick didn't play a single minute of playoff hockey, it's undeniable how massive Quick was to having our historic presidents trophy winning year and I'm not sure without him it would've been possible. Quick only started 27 games but put up a .911 save % with a GAA of 2.62 with 18 wins and 2 shutouts. Quick especially came up huge when Igor was going through his cold streak and needed to find his game again. I think he rightfully deserves this spot.

2024.06.02 21:02 ParrotLover2024 Who are your favorite players to use?

Mine are:
James Lofton: He’s the Randy Moss of this game and can blow the top off of any defense.
Elvin Bethea: IMHO he’s the best defensive linemen in the game if you sub him in as a 3-tech 4-3/Nickel 4-2-5 DT (which isn’t an outrageous thing to do because he played as a 3-4 DE irl and those tend to be 4-3 DTs). He can single handily completely disrupt an offense.
Ken Stabler: I find him to be more consistent than Cunningham but he can still scramble and is clutch (I play in coach mode and don’t directly control the players - I just call the plays instead so clutch attribute matters more).
Derrick Thomas: He’s the best all around defensive player in the game especially if you pair him up with Elvin Bethea. Having Elvin Bethea as a 3-tech 4-3/Nickel 4-2-5 DT frees up Thomas to sit back in coverage and rack up stats (tackles and INTs) because Bethea can get pressure all by himself.
When Thomas does blitz out of a 4-3 or Nickel 4-2-5 he usually will be completely untouched or will only have to beat a RB to get to the QB (unless you’re blitzing him every play then the tackle will pick him up because the offense will be expecting him to rush if you’re doing it every play or almost every play - mix up your play calling to confuse the offense).
Willie Brown: He’s the best cover corner in the game (essentially the Darrelle Revis of the game and even has the same number as him).
Lem Barney: IMHO he’s the second best cover corner in the game behind Willie Brown, has great speed, and is a great value pick.
Jack Tatum: Best silver free safety and can force a lot of turnovers (directly or indirectly) especially if you have a good pass rush. Is usually also good at defending against the run because he’s a great tackler. If I don’t pick star corners then this guy will be on my team.
Charlie Waters: Good value for a bronze, his run coverage attribute makes him good in run defense and is a ball hawk strong safety.

2024.06.02 20:38 I_read_all_wikipedia STL Fortune 500 in 1995

With the 2024 Edition of the Fortune 500/1000 coming out on June 4, I thought it would be fun to go back 29 years ago to see what the corporate landscape looked like. Here's a list and an explanation as to what happened to each.
  1. (69) McDonnell Douglas: McDonell Douglas was a major aircraft manufacturer and defense contractor for the Department of Defense. It was headquartered in Berkely, near Lambert Airport. In 1997, it was bought by Boeing. Boeing then placed their Defense headquarters in St. Louis, but moved it to Washington DC in the 2010s. Today, McDonnell Douglas lives on in St. Louis with a major Boeing presence, still at its former headquarters in Berkely. The design on the left side of the Boeing logo is one of the last remaining branding symbols from McDonell Douglas.
  2. (82) May Department Stores: May Department Stores were a major retail department store chain headquartered downtown. In 2005, it was acquired by Federated Department Stores (a few years after their own failure to acquire Federated a few years prior), and the merged company was rebranded to Macy's and the new logos were very similar to the old May logos. They have since changed the font of their logo. Today, Macy's does not have any offices in St. Louis, ans closed the former flagship May store in 2014.
  3. (85) Anheuser-Busch: Anheuser-Busch was a major brewery, headquartered in Soulard. In 2009, Belgian brewer InBev bought the company, and made it a wholly-owned subsidiary. Today, Anheuser-Busch operates as a subsidiary of its parent company AB-InBev, which is based in Belgium.

I am a first time RPG system builder, and with my love of Power Rangers I decided to make it power rangers based. I want opinions from other Ranger fans on if they think sections need more clarification, or if the knowledge of power rangers should be enough for the system to work

2024.06.02 20:07 USPSA_A145124 Competition Rig Complete

Competition Rig Complete
I think I'm finally done with the rig. I was originally all set up for USPSA and thought I was set. With all of the shady things exposed with the organizations leadership, I went on a journey to set up for IPSC. After all, IPSC equipment rules do translate to USPSA. The inverse is not true. If the board stops their focus of self service, this rig will still work when I come back.

2024.06.02 20:03 kemikiao RCQ Write up - Boros Burn

Deck list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/FdXV3zGeDEq1489krJ6tZQ
14 player event, 4 rounds of Swiss, cut to Top 8. I ended up 3rd/4th.
Round 1: vs UW control.
Game 1- On the play, I mull to 6, opponent mulls to 5. Iwas able to get there through Turn 3 [[High Noon]]. Sorceries on my turn to buff bird and swifty, instants on their turn to get the damage through.
Sideboard: out 2 Skewer the Critics, 2 Light up the Stages to work around High Noon, in 2 [[Wear // Tear]], 2 [[Roiling Vortex]]. Tear to deal with Noon, Vortex to get in chip damage and stop any life gain.
Game 2- Both players mull to 6. It was close, but with [[Temporary Lockdown]] nabbing three of my creatures and a well timed [[The Wandering Emperor]], I couldn't quite get there. Got them down to 1 but couldn't close the deal.
Sideboard: no changes... maybe should have added a [[skullcrack]] instead of a vortex to push damage faster.
Game 3- Had to mull to 5 to see any lands, opponent mulled to 6. But I'm out of the gate like a shot. Turn 1 [[Monastery Swiftspear]], Turn 2 [[Monstrous Rage]] and [[Kumano Faces Kakkazan]], Turn 3 [[Boros Charm]] and [[Skewer the Critics]], game was over pretty quick. They did have a slow start their first two lands entering tapped, but was just too slow.
Record; 1-0
Round 2: vs Mono White Humans.
Game 1 - On the draw, opponent mulls to 6. I never even got going. They had [[Get Lost]] for every creature I played and just beat me down with tiny creatures.
Sideboard: out 4 Boros Charm, 1 Skullcrack, in 3 [[Searing Blood]], 2 [[Rending Volley]].
Game 2 - Opponent mulls to 6. They never see a third land and they never keep a creature for a turn. I keep up removal and chip in with creatures.
Sideboard: no changes
Game 3 - Opponent mulls to 6. And it's just the second game again, except this time they were stuck on one land for a couple of turns. I was able to get a [[Slickshot Show-Off]] down and kill everything they played. I think they should have mull'd to 5, but they did have 1 land and 3 one-drops, so maybe it was the correct call?
Record; 2-0
Round 3: vs Amalia Combo
Game 1 - probably one of the worst matchups for this deck. Too much life gain and enough creatures to gum up the board. I mull to 6 and.... surprisingly get there. They never keep a creature on the board and even though they gained 3-4 life over the game, it wasn't enough.
Sideboard: out 4 Boros Charms, 2 Stages, 2 Skewer, 1 Deflecting Palm, 1 Skewer the Critics, in 1 Skullcrack, 2 Roiling Vortex, 3 Searing Bloods, 2 Rending Volley
Game 2 - I hit the ground running, Swiftspear + Rage again. Followed by a Searing Blood on a soul-sister, Volley on Amalia, and then Roiling Vortex to stop any life gain. They did spend Turn 4 casting the worst [[Collected Company]] on the planet... they saw 3 other Collected Company and 3 lands, so them throwing away 4 mana and a card was a big help to me.
Record; 3-0
Round 4: vs RB Vampires
Game 1 - we're locked for Top 8, but this is the opponent's first RCQ and A) they came to play magic, so lets play magic and 2) seeding might matter, so we opt to play. I mull to 6, they mull to 5. And well... they got to play magic at least. After 3 [[Fatal Push]], 1 [[Duress]], and a [[Thoughsieze]] I was pretty much out of the game.
Sideboard: out 2 Skewer, 2 Stage, in 2 Roiling Vortex, 2 Destroy Evil. Not sure on this...haven't actually played against the deck before.
Game 2 - About the same as the first. Vortex kept me somewhat in the game since they couldn't gain life off [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]]. Had them down to 4... just one card shy in the end.
Record; 3-1
Cut to Top 8, I'm the Number 2 seed.
Round 5: vs RG Aggro
Game 1 - both mull to 6 and I'm on the draw, which is probably the most important for this matchup as it's basically the mirror. Turn 1 Swiftspear into Turn 2 Rage + Skewer. Turn 3 bird and the game is over pretty quick.
Sideboard: out 4 Boros Charm, in 3 Searing Blood, 1 Deflecting Palm.
Game 2 - the same as game 1, but I'm on the receiving end. They had a [[Blossoming Defense]] to protect from my removal and I flood out pretty bad.
Sideboard: no changes
Game 3 - this is the game that made me do this write up. I'm out the gate swinging, but they have some removal and were able to get in some good hits. I end up having to use a [[Deflecting Palm]] on a [[Den of the Bugbear]] to save some life points.
I'm at 8 life with on a Kumano on board and two cards in hand., Opponent is at 9 with Swiftspear and goblin token. Opponent casts [[Pick your Poison]] to get rid of my Kumano (one prowess trigger), surges out [[Reckless Bushwhacker]], and swings for 7. Aiming for lethal, opponent casts Monstrous Rage on their Swiftspear making it 7 power. I then cast my own Monstrous Rage, also targeting their Swiftspear and then casting my second Deflecting Palm. They take 10 and I win the round.
Talking about it afterwards, they should have targeted the Goblin Token with the rage. Still would have been lethal to me and, since we play together, they KNOW I'm a D-palm fiend. With that play, I could still have Raged and D-Palmed the goblin... and then we'd both have gone to 3 life. Which still gives me the chance for a top deck to win. But playing around not only D-palm, but also a pump spell... that's a lot to ask for.
Record; 4-1
Round 5: vs Amalia Combo (round 3 opponent)
Not going to bother leading anyone on... these games weren't even close to close. They got their revenge on the "stolen" game in the swiss rounds and gained a bajillion life, I cried. Game 2, stuck on two lands I got them to 6 and needed any removal spell for Amalia to have a chance, didn't get it, and then they combo'd me.
Record; 4-2
Overall, I'm real happy with the tournament and not just because I did well (though that does help). Everyone I went with made it Top 8 and everyone we played were friendly.
Deflecting Palm is THE reason I'm playing a Boros list. It's one of my favourite cards and running one in the maindeck has always been my 'one-of, fun-of'. Boros Charm has been pretty good, though I haven't yet got to choose the doublestrike mode with Bird out to hit for a million. [[Lightning Helix]] has been a great help against the other aggro lists, being able to remove a creature and claw back some life has really changed some of the races.
I have a few changes I think I'll make to the sideboard, don't know how happy I am with [[Eidolon of the Great Revel]]... I think it's only good against Phoenix and has too big of a chance of locking me out of the game. Might swap those with [[Chained to the Rocks]].
I think I'd also like to try [[God's Willing]] in the side, just to help against the heavy removal decks. While I do have a lot of direct damage, I can't get there without a creature so maybe having that protection would be worth it. I'm on the fence with this one.
Soul-Scar is the weakest creature in the deck. I've seen lists that run [[Clever Lumimancer]] in it's stead. Don't know how i feel about those.... Soul-Scar can at least chip in for a bit if I'm out of spells, but Lumimancer does hit harder... Might try a split next time.

2024.06.02 19:55 Baggio105 Decisions to be made for the Alouettes in 2024

As the Alouettes played their final exhibition game against the Ottawa Redblacks last night in Ottawa, head coach Jason Maas kept 31 guaranteed starters on the bench in preparation for the Alouettes’ defense of last year’s Grey Cup title. The Alouettes were considered hunters in recent years, usually on the outside looking in, but they will be considered the hunted in this upcoming season with a big target on their backs.
Many starters didn’t play last night as there are many questions that remained unanswered. Two key areas of concern are who will replace William Stanback at RB and who will be starting on the front line to protect Cody Fajardo, the likely candidate to be the Alouettes’ starting QB.
Last week, Montreal released running back Mike Weber Jr. even though he had two impressive runs for 23 yards. It seemed they were high on Stevie Scott III even though he had two minor touches for two yards. Given the fact that both only had two carries last week, it would have only been fair for them to fight out for a position on a team that is looking for a strong back and add some variety to the play calling.
Against Ottawa, I was hoping to see most of our running back display who deserved the number one spot, but it appears the coaches project Walter Fletcher to be our starter, and the battle for the second back would have been determined in these two exhibition games. Stevie Scott III was impressive, but he will be placed on the practice squad as it seems the coaching staff has made up its mind on their starting backs for the Alouettes. Walter Fletcher will be the starting back, while Sean Thomas Erlington, will be his backup.
Last night’s weak offensive line play against Ottawa still showed signs of a work in progress, with impending corrections badly needed.
QB Davis Alexander didn’t play last night as Management appears to recognize his potential. He can become the team’s future QB with last season’s displays of agility and arm strength and during the few exhibition games he played recently. Management is either sold on his abilities and keep him for the foreseeable future, or he might be considered for a trade for a running back and offensive lineman, as he and Caleb Evans will both be in the final year of their contracts next season. Evans wasn’t too impressive yesterday against Ottawa, but yet again, he simply had inadequate protection up front. Give the quarterbacks protection and time, and this team can be even more dangerous than last season.

Our strengths are at wide receiver with many fighting for a position on the practice roster. Charleston Rambo has been stellar at practice and games, along with Ramaud Chiaoka-Bowman. While only one can make the team, we learnt earlier this week that Reggie White Jr. is back on the injured reserve. Bowman was placed on the practice squad, who in case an injury can or will occur during a grueling season of 18 plus games, can always be counted on if needed.
There will be hard decisions to make as the team needs to cut the squad down from 100 to a 45-man roster. Memorable performances by defensive back Cre’Von Leblanc and cornerback Bryce Cosby have literally guaranteed their spots, yet sadly, defensive end T.D. Moultry and linebacker Jaylen Moody have both been released at their respective positions. Defensive coordinator Noel Thorpe has decided to proceed with other players since the Alouettes were stacked at those positions. Dylan Wynn and Shawn Lemon are still front runners for those positions, even though Lemon is presently appealing his suspension.
The final decisions will be made Saturday night as the season begins for the Alouettes on June 6th against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Coaching staff will have to study tape on how to better protect the quarterback, which is the main concern for the Alouettes at the moment.
Once these team decisions will be made, I will be back with my next analysis with the hope of keeping the CFL and Alouettes fans well informed during the season. Here is the final list of players on the practice squad, released players and suspended players.

2024.06.02 19:45 HealthyTransition101 Review, the L-drago killer death Quetzalcoatl.

Review, the L-drago killer death Quetzalcoatl.
Hello, I’m currently trying to find out what’s the best Beyblade in my collection by reviewing them one by one, this is my first review and I decided to start of strong meet Death Quetzalcoatl aka the L-drago destroyer.
Death Quetzalcoatl is an balance bey from the 4D system and appears in the Beyblade metal fury anime owned by Tithi, its main gimmick is the 4D wheel which has an attack mode and an Defense mode. The layer is lowly orientated and very thick which makes it hard for upper attackers to hit from beneath, while also in defence mode making it smash attackers difficult to hit it out of the stadium due to the round shape in combination of the rubber part of the RDF tip. In attack mode the layer is even thicker, but it gets an decent amount of gabs which gives it a bit more recoil, in combination with the outter ring off the RDF tip it can reach insane an amount of speed and create powerful attacks.
For its performance I made it first battle against a few beys of every typing, starting off easy with flame sagittario, galaxy pegasus, rock Orso and thermal lacerta. Galaxy Pegasus and thermal lacerta both got easily sweeped due to Death Quetzalcoatl its impenetrable Defense, while it seemed like death was struggling against rock orso and flame sagittario, it defeated them more easily after I changed the layer to attack mode and launched it more aggressively, after that I decided to focus more on its weakness and tried a few stronger Defense/Stamina combos, for this I did five battles against twisted tempo, hell kerbecs, flash sagittario, big bang Pegasus and the goat phantom Orion.
In these battles I found out that death Quetzalcoatl its biggest weakness is its lack off stamina against more defensive beys, and its unpredictability, the RDF tip grants it an amazing amount off Defense and attack potential with probably the best life after death, but slightly lacks in stamina and is way to hard to control, while the attack mode lacks recoil. It was easy for its opponents to outspin it, while Pegasus could easily make it lose balance and go crazy, but if death Quetzalcoatl hit one attack while it went crazy, the attack obliterated the opponent.
Twisted tempo vs death Quetzalcoatl 1-0 spin 1-1 knock out 2-1 self destruct 3-1 spin 4-1 knockout
Hell kerbecs vs death Quetzalcoatl 1-0 spin 2-0 knockout 2-1 knock out 3-1 spin 3-2 knock out.
Flash vs death Quetzalcoatl 0-1 spin on lad 0-2 knock out 1-2 knock out 2-2 spin 2-3 knock out
Bigbang vs death Quetzalcoatl 0-1 spin on lad 0-2 spin 1-2 spin 2-2 knock out 3-2 spin
Orion vs death Quetzalcoatl 1-0 spin 2-0 spin 3-0 spin 4-0 spin 5-0 spin
After that I tested it against every L-drago except destructor, it easily destroyed all of them with its low orientation which made L-drago unable to upper attack it, while its strong grip and round wheel made it almost unable to get knocked out and its superior LAD made it the perfect counter against most left spinning beys. Only the sheer power of the gold L-drago destructor and the ultimate upper attacks of pre hybrid L-drago could defeat it 2/10 times.
Final conclusion.
Stamina 6/10 (6 points) Just enough to defeat most attack types. Defense 8/10 (8 points) Almost impossible to knock out Attack 7/10 (7 points) If it gets speed, its attacks are incredibly strong, but more due to speed then recoil. Balance 8/10 (8 points) Amazing Defense, decent stamina and incredible attack, but just not all at once. Versatility 9/10 (9 points) Usable for almost every tactic Extra pros/gimmicks +13 points It’s tip gives it an extreme amount of versatility,Especially in combination with its wheel, while also giving it an extreme amount of LAD. Cons -5 points It’s unpredictability makes it hard to control and inconsistent.
Total points: 46 Currently number one.
Death Quetzalcoatl is a strong balance bey with an impressive Defense and attack potential, while having just enough stamina to outspin most attack types, it’s amazing lad makes it L-dragos worst nightmare and it is overall an incredible strong bey, the only real downside is its uncontrollability.

2024.06.02 19:41 ApplicationNovel4220 Questions for someone with legal knowledge: Brian Higgins prior testimony

I saw a podcast with Mark Bederow discussing Brian’s testimony with the FBI regarding what he did or didn’t do with his phone, and how his testimony in this trial contradicts his prior testimony. It is my understanding that the FBI is not investigating the death of John but the investigation/ investigators of the case.
1.Why would the FBI question Brian about the content of his phone?
  1. I am guessing the Alberts and McCabes were also questioned for the same reasons?
  2. Did the defense try to enter the fact that there is an FBI investigation and the judge ruled it inadmissible?
  3. Did the FBI provide ALL their findings as of trial date to the prosecution and defense?
  4. If no, how does the FBI determine what they share and what they don’t?
  5. When AJ and DY question witnesses and refer to testimony on a particular date and don’t qualify it was grand jury testimony, do you think the jury is confused as to what other testimony beside grand jury these folks have given?
Please share your knowledge and correct anything I have gotten wrong here.
