I've always thought this audiophile stuff are for higher beings who can appreciate music on a higher level than I can - just like how I can't appreciate blank canvases labelled modern art. But then I got myself a $40 refurbished pair of IEMs and listened to the same damn playlist I've been listening to everyday and holy fuck there are layers and layers of vocals in that shit. This whole time I was listening on Apple Music set to the highest quality on first generation wired Apple headphones that came with my iPhone 5.
So now I'm intrigued. I'm completely new to this, I have no idea what a soundstage is, what tuning I like etc. All I can give you is that my playlist consists of big, anthemic ballads, with swelling orchestra, layered vocals and belting. The two songs that made me cry with these new Moondrop Lan IEMs were Love Wins All and My Sea by IU. Other songs include Saturn by Sleeping At Last, which is an example of the intimate vocal and instrumental I tend to listen to.
What is the next step up from here? I'm not looking into starting a collection of IEMs, but just have one solid set for my playlist as described. I want it to sound like a whole choir standing in a circle around me and belting their hearts out. Please help a newbie out!

I've tried to improve the report today, with more explicitly mentioned high volume tickers to watch for the day, along with their catalysts, and have increased the detail in analysis section. Hope you like.

ANALYSIS:

This week we see PCE data come on Friday. Expectations in the market according to the bloomberg intelligence research that I was reading, is for it to come soft or in line. Analysts are not expecting it to come hot.
Whilst some people argue that rates will have to stay higher for longer due to stickiness in inflation, I point to inflation swaps which have all fallen over the last 1 month. This for 1y, 2y, 3,y, 5y, 10y etc. Traders are still expecting inflation to come down this year, especially encouraged by the falling shelter inflation in the last report.
A look at some positioning analysis then:
Silver and gold pumped yesterday, silver in particular, due to the geopolitical escalations between Egypt and Israel, as well as Israel and the rest of the world in Rafah. We saw strong positioning before too.
Today, both pullback, but positioning overall v bullish, traders are buying calls on Silver at 35C. Thats a sign that traders are expecting this to be short term vol before move higher.
NVDA showing strong positioning, and is up in premarket on news that xAI will use NVDA chips in building thier supercomputer. This is brining other semiconductors with it. AMD has a bullish positioning too.
Potential high volume Names to watch today from a catalyst perspective (you can see the catalysts below) are:
DUOL, PYPL, RIOT, DKNG, SE, CRWD, ONON
EURUSD, GBPUSD showing bullish positioning as both come to resistance at 1.09 and 1.28 respectively. Positioning suggests we can see a break above, but let’s see.
Traders continue to favour tech, and big tech in particular as Mag7 skew makes a new yearly high. AAPL and NVDA up in premarket should be supportive of the market too.
VIX is up in premarket but expect vol crush later in the day as usual, positioning on VIX is still very short.

AUSTRALIAN RETAIL SALES:
Came 0.1% MOM vs 0.2% expected. Last month, fell 0.4% MOM.
This is slightly weaker than expected, but retail sales MOM have been very variable in Australia, ranging from -1% to 1%
ECB 1 year inflation expectations come in line with forecast at 2.9%
3 year CPI expectations come 2.4%, less than expected.
GOOD.
House Price Index/Case Shiller later
Consumer Confidence nUmbers come out after market opens.
Fed Speakers today:

MARKETS: SPX, DJI, NDX more or less where they closed on Friday.

SPX: closed Friday at 5303. Over Memorial Day, was trading flat, slightly higher to 5320, before dropping back to 5308. 5300 has been the support in premarket.
NASDAQ: Closed Friday at 18,800. Over Memorial Day was flat. Pushed higher to 18900 before paring gains slightly back to 18,853
DJI: Trading at 39k. Flat since Fridays close. 39k support, 40k resistance.
GER40: After hitting 18,500 on Friday, it bounced. Moved higher to 18850 over yesterday, pared gains slightly.
UK100: Slightly lwoer today, On Friday dropped to 8275. Yday dropped to 8200 before pushing higher. Today back at 8296. Positioning overall bullish.
Silver: Pulling back today after push higher yesterday by 5%
GOld: Lower, after being rejected off 2350. Had moved higher by almost 1% yesterday.
In both cases, looks like pullback before move higher.
Oil slightly higher - Opec meeting this week.

FX:

EURUSD higher to 1.0885. Pushed up from 1.08 support on Friday. Will come to 1.09, and will be looking for break as has broken out of long term downtrend.
GBPUSD higher towards 1.28, positioning bullish. 1.28 is resistance
AUDUSD higher again. Retraced back to 0.66 support on Friday, before move higher again.
Most of these moves have come on dollar weakening from 105 since Friday. - comes as Japan has been signalling more potential intervention and also some countries not using USD from imports.

MAG 7:

AAPL - China iPhone shipments jump 52% in April. AAPL and resellers have bene cutting prices in China throughout 2024. Hence shipments have been jumping.
AAPL - will unveil Ai tools for daily use at next month’s developers conference. Their “project grey matter” will integrate AI into safari, photos and notes. Custom AI generated emojis for example
AMZN, NVDA - according to Business Insider, Amazon is facing challenges inc competing with NVDA’s dominant AI chips, experiencing low usage and compatibility problems.
Internal documents apparently reveal Amazon’s AI chips, Tranium and Inferentia are lagging significantly behind NVDA’s GPU in adoption.
AMZN trying to improve the chips
Apparently evne some internal Amazon AI projects are using NVDA GPUs rather than AWS homegrown chips.
AMZN - in talks to invest Billions into Italian cloud expansion.
TSLA - secures $150M+ megabuck contract for Australia’s first 8 hour battery. Will supply megabuck battery for 50MW, 400MW limondale project in SW NSW Australia.
DESPITE THIS, TSLA LOWER AS GLASS LEWIS URGES SHAREHOLDERS TO REJECT Elon Musk PAY PACKAGE.
NVDA - Bank of America shows that 68% of funds own NVDA in their holdings and over 50% of all funds are overweight on the firm.
NVDA pumping 3% in premarket. Musk’s XAI wants to use H100 chips as part of their supercomputer.

OTHER COMPANIES:

Crypto names lower as BTC loses its gains from yesterday.
DKNG - Illinois Senate approves a budget that includes a progressive tax hike on sports betting operators. 40% tax rate, which will triple current tax. Not good for DKNG operations in Illionis
SE - Indonesia antitrust agency says that Shopee, which is owned by SE, violated competition rules by directing customers to use certain delivery services. Shop stopped listing several delivery service providers, giving customers just 2 options.
GME - higher after the company raised nearly 933M from sale of 45m shares. Proceeds used for general corporate purposes.
With GameStop pumping, other MEME names like AMC, SPWR etc are up in sentiment.
With NVDA pumping, we see other semiconductor names like QCOM, VRT, COHR, DELL run in sentiment.
SBUX - discounts more of its popular coffee drinks in China
ZS - down as Rosenblatt downgrades ahead of earnings.
DUOL - JMP Securities upgrades duo lingo to outperform with PT of 260. Big analyst upgrade. Technical pic looks supportive.
CRWD - Reiterated buy rating on CRWD, raised price target to 422 from 372. Believes they will surpass $5B in annual recurring revenue by Calendar year 2025.
PAAS up as silver pumped yesterday.
Solar names are higher again.
GLOB - Raised to buy at UBS, price target 230. Current price 170.
ABNB - raised to buy at WEdbush, price target 165 from 160.

This week we see PCE data come on Friday. Expectations in the market according to the bloomberg intelligence research that I was reading, is for it to come soft or in line. Analysts are not expecting it to come hot.
Whilst some people argue that rates will have to stay higher for longer due to stickiness in inflation, I point to inflation swaps which have all fallen over the last 1 month. This for 1y, 2y, 3,y, 5y, 10y etc. Traders are still expecting inflation to come down this year, especially encouraged by the falling shelter inflation in the last report.
A look at some positioning analysis then:
Silver and gold pumped yesterday, silver in particular, due to the geopolitical escalations between Egypt and Israel, as well as Israel and the rest of the world in Rafah. We saw strong positioning before too.
Today, both pullback, but positioning overall v bullish, traders are buying calls on Silver at 35C. Thats a sign that traders are expecting this to be short term vol before move higher.
NVDA showing strong positioning, and is up in premarket on news that xAI will use NVDA chips in building thier supercomputer. This is brining other semiconductors with it. AMD has a bullish positioning too.
Potential high volume Names to watch today from a catalyst perspective (you can see the catalysts below) are:
DUOL, PYPL, RIOT, DKNG, SE, CRWD, ONON
EURUSD, GBPUSD showing bullish positioning as both come to resistance at 1.09 and 1.28 respectively. Positioning suggests we can see a break above, but let’s see.
Traders continue to favour tech, and big tech in particular as Mag7 skew makes a new yearly high. AAPL and NVDA up in premarket should be supportive of the market too.
VIX is up in premarket but expect vol crush later in the day as usual, positioning on VIX is still very short.

AUSTRALIAN RETAIL SALES:
Came 0.1% MOM vs 0.2% expected. Last month, fell 0.4% MOM.
This is slightly weaker than expected, but retail sales MOM have been very variable in Australia, ranging from -1% to 1%
ECB 1 year inflation expectations come in line with forecast at 2.9%
3 year CPI expectations come 2.4%, less than expected.
GOOD.
House Price Index/Case Shiller later
Consumer Confidence nUmbers come out after market opens.

MARKETS: SPX, DJI, NDX more or less where they closed on Friday.

SPX: closed Friday at 5303. Over Memorial Day, was trading flat, slightly higher to 5320, before dropping back to 5308. 5300 has been the support in premarket.
NASDAQ: Closed Friday at 18,800. Over Memorial Day was flat. Pushed higher to 18900 before paring gains slightly back to 18,853
DJI: Trading at 39k. Flat since Fridays close. 39k support, 40k resistance.
GER40: After hitting 18,500 on Friday, it bounced. Moved higher to 18850 over yesterday, pared gains slightly.
UK100: Slightly lwoer today, On Friday dropped to 8275. Yday dropped to 8200 before pushing higher. Today back at 8296. Positioning overall bullish.
Silver: Pulling back today after push higher yesterday by 5%
GOld: Lower, after being rejected off 2350. Had moved higher by almost 1% yesterday.
In both cases, looks like pullback before move higher.
Oil slightly higher - Opec meeting this week.

FX:

EURUSD higher to 1.0885. Pushed up from 1.08 support on Friday. Will come to 1.09, and will be looking for break as has broken out of long term downtrend.
GBPUSD higher towards 1.28, positioning bullish. 1.28 is resistance
AUDUSD higher again. Retraced back to 0.66 support on Friday, before move higher again.
Most of these moves have come on dollar weakening from 105 since Friday. - comes as Japan has been signalling more potential intervention and also some countries not using USD from imports.

MAG 7:

AAPL - China iPhone shipments jump 52% in April. AAPL and resellers have bene cutting prices in China throughout 2024. Hence shipments have been jumping.
AAPL - will unveil Ai tools for daily use at next month’s developers conference. Their “project grey matter” will integrate AI into safari, photos and notes. Custom AI generated emojis for example
AMZN, NVDA - according to Business Insider, Amazon is facing challenges inc competing with NVDA’s dominant AI chips, experiencing low usage and compatibility problems.
Internal documents apparently reveal Amazon’s AI chips, Tranium and Inferentia are lagging significantly behind NVDA’s GPU in adoption.
AMZN trying to improve the chips
Apparently evne some internal Amazon AI projects are using NVDA GPUs rather than AWS homegrown chips.
AMZN - in talks to invest Billions into Italian cloud expansion.
TSLA - secures $150M+ megabuck contract for Australia’s first 8 hour battery. Will supply megabuck battery for 50MW, 400MW limondale project in SW NSW Australia.
DESPITE THIS, TSLA LOWER AS GLASS LEWIS URGES SHAREHOLDERS TO REJECT Elon Musk PAY PACKAGE.
NVDA - Bank of America shows that 68% of funds own NVDA in their holdings and over 50% of all funds are overweight on the firm.
NVDA pumping 3% in premarket. Musk’s XAI wants to use H100 chips as part of their supercomputer.

OTHER COMPANIES:

Crypto names lower as BTC loses its gains from yesterday.
DKNG - Illinois Senate approves a budget that includes a progressive tax hike on sports betting operators. 40% tax rate, which will triple current tax. Not good for DKNG operations in Illionis
SE - Indonesia antitrust agency says that Shopee, which is owned by SE, violated competition rules by directing customers to use certain delivery services. Shop stopped listing several delivery service providers, giving customers just 2 options.
GME - higher after the company raised nearly 933M from sale of 45m shares. Proceeds used for general corporate purposes.
With GameStop pumping, other MEME names like AMC, SPWR etc are up in sentiment.
With NVDA pumping, we see other semiconductor names like QCOM, VRT, COHR, DELL run in sentiment.
SBUX - discounts more of its popular coffee drinks in China
ZS - down as Rosenblatt downgrades ahead of earnings.
DUOL - JMP Securities upgrades duo lingo to outperform with PT of 260. Big analyst upgrade. Technical pic looks supportive.
CRWD - Reiterated buy rating on CRWD, raised price target to 422 from 372. Believes they will surpass $5B in annual recurring revenue by Calendar year 2025.
PAAS up as silver pumped yesterday.
Solar names are higher again.
GLOB - Raised to buy at UBS, price target 230. Current price 170.
ABNB - raised to buy at WEdbush, price target 165 from 160.
TTWO - rumours suggest 2K games secured official FIFA license. New game is expected to launch as FIFA.
BA - wins 7.5B$ US airforce contract.
PYPL - planning an ad business, hires Uber advertising chief, says WSJ
ORCL - XAI founder Musk says the company is planning to build a supercomputer. Says that they will work with ORACLE probably. Want it up and running in 2nd half of 2025, says it will be 4 times stronger than largest GPU cluster.
RIOT - will be looking at takeover of rival bitcoin miner, Bitfarms.
RIVN - slashes prices on 2023 and 2024 R1T and R1S models in North America. A number of add ons to cars are now significantly cheaper than before.

I need a way to keep track of news on a series of niche topics (mostly related to energy, politics).
I think what I want is a news aggregator, like better version of the native iPhone news app — but more customisable with topics or sources.
I know there’s an option to indicate interests and outlets in that News app but I get way more news about the royals than I ever indicated I wanted.
What do folks use? Anything you’d recommend?
I am finding that: - the native iPhone news app serves me skewed content (eg. always The Australian, never Financial Review) - Facebook algorithm is phasing out news, its all community chatter in my feed - Email newsletters are too hard to keep up with, too many of them and not many on my topics of interest - google keyword searches are too hard to keep up with - all Reddit’s groups are broader than my interests are
I used to use an RSS feed reader and loved it, but don’t know that feeds or readers are commonplace anymore.

2024.05.28 09:11 Initial-Bother2370 Leave 3 clients (Dayshift, Earning 163k/month) for $4000/month US-Based (Graveyard Shift) Client? Thoughts?

I currently have 3 AU clients (2 full time, 1 part time), totaling 163k/month. My niche is Digital Marketing and Customer Success. I've been working with 2 of my clients since 2021 and 2022 (so I know it's pretty stable), and ung isang client ka-ka onboard ko lang 3 weeks ago (but already got a raise) :)
The work-load is very much manageable for all 3 jobs. Daming downtime. 2 of my clients have a fixed schedule of 7am to 2pm PH time, and the other part time client is flexible. No time tracker for all 3 clients.
I would say in a day, I only work around 3-4 hours max, the rest ay petiks2 lang. This is the type of 'lazy girl' job that's trending on TikTok. ;D Apart from that, I also receive 13th month bonuses from 2 clients every December. 2 clients offer HMO, Australian/PH paid holidays off, and sick/vacation leaves.
As a single mom, ok na ok talaga sakin yung dayshift since I get to spend more time with my child, at kompleto pa tulog ko every night.
However, a month ago, I applied to a job post sa isang US company I found on LinkedIn (had my interview, skills assessment, etc) and the HR manager called last night to inform me that I was chosen for the role. I have until next Monday to decide whether to take it or not.
So eto na, yung offer nila ay $4000 USD a month, fixed salary. Graveyard shift yung schedule ng trabaho, from 9AM to 5PM EST time zone. They use Hubstaff time tracker, and there are daily stand-up meetings before the job. The job is a client-facing role (Account Manager for a Digital Marketing Company). As it is a leadership position, I'm sure the position will be much more stressful than my current jobs.
Walang benefits like 13th month or HMO, but sa salary pa lang okays na. They also send out birthday gifts every year like a Macbook Pro or the latest iPhone (based dun sa isang PH-based VA din nila who I spoke to)
As much as I want to keep all jobs, it isn't sustainable for me or my health. It's either I stay with my current job or choose the new role.
Would also like to mention that for promotion din ako sa isang full time Aussie client ko, so I'm estimating the increase will be around 15k to 20k pesos? However, this promotion isn't till August.
I'm just thinking the US company will offer more financial growth in the long run (I mean, $4000/month ay malaking tulong na talaga 'to).
If you were in my position - which would you go for?

Essentially, the challenge is to select a phone, optimizing to minimize $/yr with a few noted compromises.

10 years ago, my sisters partner had his 30th birthday in Bali. My sister invited me to come, initially I didn’t want to go because I didn’t know anyone else there other than her and her bf and my sister and I are very different. I knew it was going to be a fairly heavy drinking holiday and I’m a happy drunk whereas she’s an emotional one. Whether that be sad, angry or both. After both my parents convinced me I ended up going.
On the second day we had a full day of drinking and it was actually going pretty well. I did however need to get money however where we were staying the money exchange and ATM were down so I had to bring my card out. The plan was to go to dinner and then go to a bar. I’d mentioned to her earlier I’d needed money and she was like “we’ll deal with it at dinner”. After we finished everyone was leaving to go to a bar across the road (probably 200metres away) I asked her to come find an ATM and she laughed and said she didn’t want to get left behind. I reminded her I had no cash (had about $10 Australian in Balinese r) and she just said it was my problem (she was already pretty pissed).
I thought fair enough and just went off to find an atm. There was a little food stand so I walked up got a drink and asked where an atm was and got told so I gave them a little extra and walked off down this street. As soon as I got to the ATM I got surrounded by 6-7 locals. Managed to get my cash and card but then had a minor scuffle. I was able to get away. The whole time I had my wallet in my hand. Saw I still had the cash and left. Not gonna lie when I was surrounded the first thought I had was, “Well I’m one of those drunk tourists that gets murdered”. However I was pretty grateful I got away with only a few scratches and didn’t want to make the night about me so didn’t really elaborate on it too much. Ended up having a good night after. However waking up extremely hungover I opened my wallet and found I’d lost my card. I freaked out and opened my bank app only to find that my account wasn’t actually there. Basically one of those guys slipped my card out of my wallet while it was in my hand (honestly pretty impressive).
I ended up deciding I’d had enough so flew home early. Funny thing was that a few days before leaving I’d got a new iPhone and given my old one to my mum. Unknown to me she was getting the same iMessages. So I’d messaged a friend telling her I’d got robbed. Only to start getting texts from my mum asking wtf (I’d intended to tell her when I got home rather than worry her 🤣). So when I got home my mum was actually pretty pissed off, because she thought I was ungrateful for leaving early because she’d have loved a week in Bali (to be clear, I paid for my trip).
My mum and I ended up having a pretty big argument because when I told her what had happened, she thought I was lying and didn’t believe my sister would leave me alone and that I probably just stupidly wondered off. Then we had an argument that lasted a few months cos she was disgusted that I’d lie about my sister. My dad also got involved basically saying he was disappointed at how stupid I was.
Fast forward through the years and it’s often been something my sister will joke about. Every time I’ve been overseas she’ll joke “Make sure you don’t pay someone to rob you this time” or whenever we see one of the people from the trip she’ll say “Oh you remember my little brother, the one that got robbed and then tipped the robbers?” Just shit like that.
Up until recently she didn’t know the fight with mum. Mum died last year and at the start of the year my sister asked why mum and I had that feud so I told her about it and that going forward if she could drop that as I wasn’t prepared to take it from her anymore.
Over the last weekend it was her partners 40th and they threw a house party. It was a nightmare. They fought the whole time and my sister was an idiot. She of course when she’d introduce me to some of the people would be like “oh do you remember my little bro from Bali, the one that got robbed”. Rather than leave I ended up staying. I told her bf I’d look after her and to enjoy his night.
I left in the morning and for a couple of days had my sister calling telling me how stupid she felt etc. She noticed I wasn’t very receptive and asked what was wrong. So I told her I was disappointed about her again bringing up the story. She started to get angry told me to get over it etc so I ended the phone call. She then called the next day because she was bored in the car waiting to pick her son up. Noticed I wasn’t in the mood, called me a pussy and hung up. She proceeded to get my dad, brother and one of her friends involved. I basically said I just want some space from her but if she apologised and didn’t do it again I’d be fine. My brother was understanding and said it’s our business. Dad was disappointed in me and called me an arsehole for kicking my sister when she was down, and her friend was understanding but was still sympathetic to her saying “she only trying to have some fun”.
Admittedly I never went into much detail about the actual pick pocket story from the beginning but am I wrong for wanting a little more respect from my sister and wanting her to drop it?

We're white, middle class Australians. Just my son & I living in a two story, two bedroom townhouse in a pretty mediocre complex in a capital city.
While I make a decent income (~$107K AUD salary plus super, or just over 3K AUD/fortnight) we struggle to get by because my mortgage repayments are 1350/fortnight plus I have an arseload of bills (home rates, water, gas, electricity, body corporate fees, health insurance, plus our internet & phone bill is insane, so he can have the fastest, unlimited home network speeds, repayments on his iPhone 14 Pro, my Pixel 6) and his constant want for new (expensive) clothes, shoes and whatever else he demands.
He has a mid-tier gaming PC I built him a few years ago, along with a PS5 and a high end gaming monitor with an expensive desk and gaming chair in his bedroom, along with a very nice queen-sized bed and floating shelves with expensive collectables on them.
As a 49M I have given up on finding love again, or even a casual partner because he has damaged the crap out our home but his solution to getting more money is "get on Tinder and find a wife" so we'll have multiple incomes. I could do alright on Tinder if our house wasn't constantly getting trashed by his meltdowns. Or to constantly ask my mother for money. She's helped us enough as it is.
I even splurged on Childish Gambino tickets for us today (which will also mean travelling to and accomodation in Sydney on top of the $440 worth of tickets) and I was "the best dad in the world" but then his ASD and ADHD kick in and he starts focusing on wanting newer, better stuff.
Today (after giving up on telling me to buy a new house) he wants his room renovated, with his current desk etc back downstairs, a new desk with a MacBook, windows replaced, wardrobe replaced so he can be like a "normal kid".
When i was his age I shared a "sleep-out" (basically an enclosed verandah running down the side of the house) with three little brothers, wore what I was given and rode a cheapo "Toyworld" BMX to school, forced to participate in a cult "Mahikari" in a house full of cockroaches (especially the human cockroach married to my Mum who was molesting my older sister).
I understand he has ADHD (as do I, hence the essay, sorry) and he is at the highest of level 2 ASD (one point off level 3, which is the highest end of the spectrum in Australia) but he seems to think "all other kids" have better rooms/houses than him.
He won't listen when I tell him about teenage boys living in the middle east, where they're lucky if they have a bedroom and that they can't guarantee that their Dad will survive a day at work or they can't be sure they won't get blown up at school, or crossing the frikken road. Or about other kids who are in ghettos surrounded by gang life. Or even just other white, middle class kids in our own, safe, city who don't have luxuries that he has, streaming services, a Dad that is willing to pay for him to have a more expensive phone than my own, that will take him to a $200 concert.
What does the average 13 year old kid have where you live?
How can I convince him that he should be grateful (or at least satisfied) with what he has?
It does my head in that he thinks he has it so rough!
Sorry for the huge wall of text. I need to vent as well as get some advice, please and thank you!

This is my first post ever so sorry, and the main text will be a copy from my iPhone notes, which I wrote about ‘my friend’’the wife’ which is obviously me. I cannot go to anyone, but I found out my husband has been having sexual massages and happy endings and I really don’t know what I want to do. What would you do? So I have a friend that has a bad situation. Her husband has been shady since she was pregnant, said he would stop drinking out late when she turned 8months pregnant but continued up till one week away from the due date. He took 6 months leave, but after a month, he started going out drinking again. (Btw not an alcoholic) On average, he would be out 3.5times a week out till the average of 4am. Could vary from 12am to 7am. 12am would usually when he had an early start. He wouldn’t lie, but wouldn’t mention intentionally where he went or who he was with, or leave out those details, or lie. He usually went to a bar the wife knows as well and has been and knows the owner. She went to the husband with a constructive list of why she didn’t like his behavior and points that could be changed, no emotions just productive, knowing emotional talk just makes the situation worse. Nothing really changed. He went on a ‘sauna’ trip with drinking buddies she didn’t like, and was obvious girls that he didn’t know would be invited. When the wife asked if there would be girls there, (and be assured he could go but just be honest) he said no. The wife asked if he could swear on his son, and he said yes. And yes he lied. The wife was now fully snooping on his phone, since she could never get any truth out of him. The next fight was because she found a group text of 4married people getting together at a very fancy hotel room at 8pm. The husband didn’t know the ladies, and his friend ‘set the occasion’. A couple of days before this meeting he asked the wife if he could go to dinner that night with a colleague. She told him what she knew, he denied saying he was going to cancel on them and wasn’t planning on going, the fight ended with the husband saying he was disappointed with the wife. And the wife apologizing. She was traumatized couldn’t believe anything but tried her best to not let her feelings out. Didn’t ‘forbid’ im from doing anything. They went to her home country for a month. Everything went great, they were a happy family, and no worries of late sleepless nights. For some reason when they came back home the husband had sex with her for the first time in more than a year. She was happy, when she initiated nothing happened so was hoping that the period of her husband being considerate of her postpartum body ended. But yet again, not even a romantic kiss, only family/friend kisses and of course no sex. She was sad, she got flashbacks of her lonely nights with her newborn. She was scared anxious and nearly depressed. She asked her husband at new years that she really doesn’t want the same thing happen this year. He started smoking again, only admitted when asked, he only smoke at work but since he quit for 4years, the wife was sad and disappointed.
After a while her body started to feel like herself again, she felt stronger. The husband would only go out 1,2times a week and would usually be home by 2am. But she still had so many doubts, and hunches. She tried to clean up wear nice lingerie for his birthday and wedding anniversary but he slept or was too tired. It had been 6months since the sex. She was suspicious, did he have to have sex right when they got home from overseas because he couldn’t get it over there? She always suspected he went to somewhere. But never had proof and also trusted him, and also believed he wasn’t that stupid to risk everything.
One week after their 5th anniversary, she finally got proof. He went to a sexual massage, during working hours, payed 22000yen($200) for 80mins and the optional ‘heaven’ course. She is DISGUSTED. She knew it wasn’t his first time, he recommended the same place to his friend while she was pregnant.(known from the snooping) She had enough of him hiding all the texts and phone calls to girls, but this was the final straw. She did not say anything, her husband would never try to talk things out and she was tired of initiating the conversation. And why would she when he would just lie. Now she is not talking to the husband except the bare minimum and matters including their son. She wakes up at 2am and sleeps on the couch, if she can. She hardly eats. He notices but is avoiding the situation and going with the flow. She cannot imagine a life without her son and her husband, the three of them. Could she ever forgive, forget and let go? Is she over reacting? She has no answers and is just trying to get through everyday taking care of herself.
Any thoughts? I don’t want to break up my family but I am just so sad and lonely.
UPDATE: I talked to my husband with all the cards ready, I was strongly leaning towards separation close by. It didn’t go the way I thought. Apparently he has ED, impotence. And went to the massages 3 times. He didn’t want to talk about it much but was bawling his eyes out. It seems like completely, even on his own he has it. So, not that means it’s a free pass to do all that, I do feel sorry for him and ‘understand’ where this was coming from. All the other bits are my trauma and he has been trying to improve his behavior. but now I am back at square one of what to do. He doesn’t want to talk about it(guys, I guess you can understand? I don’t, but trying to be empathetic and understand it’s sensitive)so I’m not sure if we can work together on it or what will happen. For now I have rested my divorce card. I wanted to thank you all so much, the culture over here is definitely the opposite, I would be expected to tolerate all this and be a smiley wife pretending nothing happened. So the comments helped me have confidence in myself and assured me I’m not crazy! Hopefully I will find a way that me and my son will become happy. Thank you so much!

(This is a lose adaptation of a very long thread I posted on the bird site. It's meant as a summary so there are things in here that are overly broad but I mostly want to help artistic fans know what is going on in Rhythmic with Paris on the horizon.)
So you only watch Rhythmic Gymnastics every 4 years and OMG Paris is in a few months and you have no idea what your watching except dropping things is bad and wasn't this sport like super corrupt?
Let's start with the basics. In the ye olden times all female gymnasts used to do exercises with portable and non portable apparatus. So a balance beam would be non portable and things like clubs, or balls would be portable. What we know of as artistic gymnasts competed in team portable apparatus. This video is from the 1952 Olympics and at the .10 mark you can see the Hungarian team which includes the great Ágnes Keleti (HUN)

One of my favorite facts about Auntie Ágnes is that not only is she the oldest living Olympic champion at 103, a holocaust survivor and number 3 on the all time women's Olympic medal list... she's also a reigning Olympic champion as her team was the last to win gold on Team PA before the event was discontinued. A lot of things were changing in gymnastics in the 1950s, women stopped doing Rings, the uneven bars started evolving from just being a set of pbars set to different heights, and they stopped doing exercises with portable apparatus. It was in this period that the sport that we now know of as Rhythmic Gymnastics split off and embraced ways to make themselves different from Artistic Gymnastics. What I want to emphasize here is that Rhythmic is just as "old school" as Artistic.
It might be useful to point out here that in a lot of languages call MAG/WAG "Sport Gymnastics" (Russian) or "Apparatus Gymnastics" (many other European languages). In these contexts RG is often called "Artistic Gymnastics" because the sport emphasizes artistry so much more. The idea here is that this is a discipline that emphasizes more musicality, dance, formal ballet, and as a consequence they ban things like saltos. I'm mostly talking to people who are familiar with artistic gymnastics so think of this as "dance elements taken to 11".
Broadly a RG wants to keep the apparatus moving at all times as they perform elements, to avoid dropping it but also to avoid holding onto it with an obvious death grip. The ball should for instance sit in the hand, not be squeezed to keep hold. Here is a basic guide to ball handling by a British RGI (Individual Rhythmic Gymnast) and just understanding that basic foundation of handling really goes a long way to explain just how difficult the sport is.

They throw the apparatus but your eye should stay on the gymnast not the flying apparatus as they do dance between the throw and the catch. If they catch the apparatus when they can't see it that's extra difficulty. Sometimes really terrible television camera crews will follow the apparatus in the air instead of the gymnast and this is very much worse than when they do face close ups on beam. All of the elements are what is happening UNDER the apparatus during the throw.
One of the things I find incredible about rhythmic gymnasts is just how smart they need to be in order to do their sport. We're talking a special and physical awareness that is second to none because they need that catch to appear natural and effortless. A hand should meet the apparatus you shouldn't stick your arm up and wait for it to arrive. You should be in the right place to catch it without having to move unnaturally out of your choreography or you will get a trajectory deduction. As a good casual rule of thumb, if you are seeing them trying hard to do something, something is wrong.
In fact, the ability of the gymnast to precisely control those throws means that when they do ribbon at the elite level they turn the air handling off in the arena so as not to influence the 6 meters of flying silk (that's almost 20 feet in freedom units). This adds a new level of awe when you realize that during ribbon qualification at last year's world's in Valencia, Spain it was 35 C (or 95 F). Please think about that later when I show you ribbon routines. And how toasty it will certainly be for athletes in Paris.
The apparatus are Hoop, Ball, Clubs, Ribbon, and Rope. Wait... what? Rope?! Yes. So they used to rotate between the 5 apparatus but Rope has fallen out of favor largely because it's difficult to read on TV, though many purists think it's the most difficult apparatus.

Another useful thing to know about the apparatus is that the clubs can be connected together or disconnected and this will frequently happen during the course of routines. My favorite weird fact about rhythmic is that if the clubs go out of bounds while connected it counts as one apparatus, but if you yeet the clubs out of bounds while they are separated it's two for double the penalty. No really... I will never not find this funny for some reason.

As a note, Ribbon always scores lower than the other apparatus, and you don't just risk dropping it but knots or even tangling yourself up in the ribbon in a kind of sparkly auto-bondage happen more frequently than you might think.
RG scoring is fairly complicated but in brief: Difficulty, Execution, and Artistry scores which are combined together to create a total. Execution and Artistry are out of a 10.0. Think of Execution the same way you would in AG, somewhere in the 8s is good. You start to look for something fairly major wrong when you have an E in the low 7s, and anything below 7 for an Olympic contender was a car crash. Like .44 in this video where major Olympic contender Stiliana Nikolova (BUL) trips on the spare apparatus.

Difficulty is open ended and is broken up into DA (difficulty of apparatus handling) and DB (body difficulty). If you want a better summary than I could ever give you (if a little outdated because of updates), here is the 2022-24 code in 15 minutes from Clematis on youtube. It was made for a RG point of view but I think if you are used to the WAG code you can probably follow along well enough.

Some gymnasts (like Nikolova and Darja Varfolomeev (GER)) build their routines on extremely high difficulty while others like Ekaterina Vedeneeva (SLO) and Daria Atamanov (ISR) concentrate on lower difficulty more securely done.
Rhythmic Group Gymnastics (RGG) is performed with 5 gymnasts together doing complex interacting choreography and exchanges. The apparatus for RGG changes every few years but always one routine is done with 5 of the same apparatus, and another with a mix of 2. The Paris quad RGG is 5 Hoops, and 3 Ribbons/2 Balls. People who want chaos wish for 10 Clubs but that's not in the cards for the next quad either.
If you aren't used to watching Rhythmic I promise you are probably better at spotting when things go wrong than you think. You may not know what it is, but "wait that's not right" comes quickly. Because the IOC hates fun, there are only two medal events at the Olympics, the All Around in RGI and the All Around in RGG. At world championships there is the All Around for both individuals and groups, but there are also apparatus finals. Because there are no apparatus medals at the Olympics we sometimes wont get to see the real masters of a given apparatus. Imagine if you never got to see Sanne Wever's beam because to get to the Olympics she had to be one of the top 24 All Arounders in the world.
Which is really an important thing to point out. There are only 24 individual rhythmic gymnasts at the Olympics. That is a TINY fraction of the competitive field. Relative to international competition there will be many highly competitive RGIs left home compared to WAGs. I want to dwell on that point for a moment so I'm going to apply the RGI Olympic qualifying procedure to the Artistic field. Rhythmic worlds Olympic QFers were all non-nominative, meaning the place is awarded to the country not the gymnast by name.

Back to the real world there are some heart breakers. There are 4 Bulgarians in the top 12 All Arounders this year. They have 2 spots in Paris. Other countries like Germany, Italy, and Ukraine will be leaving at least one great gymnast at home.
I'm going to go through the likely Olympic field, as well as some that will not make the Olympics because they deserve their flowers too. These routines are, for the most part, the their top scoring routines from 2024, or if I thought a 2023 Worlds routine is a better representative I've used that. For the top 5 All Arounders this year I'm showing you a routine on each apparatus.

I call Nikolova "Rhythmic Flavia" after her long lost sister Flavia Saraiva in every sense of the word. Incredibly talented. Incredibly beautiful. But also a reputation for errors in finals that hold her back. She qualified in 1st for the AA at 2023 Worlds but came in 4th in the final. Remember what I said about how you can probably spot something wrong with "that doesn't look natural?"

By the way, she's 18, just very short which isn't that common for a rhythmic gymnast. Her father was a professional football player and played in the 1986 FIFA World Cup for Bulgaria... continuing my theme of elite gymnasts with international footballer fathers.

Sofia Raffaeli is the 2022 World Champion and the 2023 World Silver Medalist. She had a pretty major coaching change last year that was very disruptive and it's my perception that she has been doing a lot of tinkering with her routines.

Atamanov was on a roll in 2022 as the European Champion (which means a LOT in RG), 2 gold medals at the World Games... and then she broke her leg in warmups at 2022 Worlds. She came back to win bronze in the AA at 2023 Worlds.

Varfolomeev was born in Siberia but left Russia when she was 12 to immigrate to the country of her grandfather. I've heard that Irina Viner thought Varfolomeev's body wasn't right for rhythmic... well she is the 2022 World Silver medalist and swept every gold at 2023 Worlds. One of the things that is really striking about Varfolomeev is that unlike most Germans she enthusiastically sings the German national anthem on the medal stand every. single. time. Which was a lot in Valencia.

Remember what I said about how European Champions mean a lot in Rhythmic? Well Kaleyn is the 2023 European Champion. But she's been less successful at worlds relative to her continental success. 4 Worlds medals (1 team gold and 3 silvers) to 13 European Championship medals.
If I was a betting woman I'd say the Olympic medals are going to come from that first 5 gymnasts I introduced. There are others of course but these 5 gymnasts own all the World and European AA medals from this quad.

Ikromova owns the 11th highest All Around score of the year so far... her problem is those 5 big names hold the top 10 between them. Still she's the best rhythmic gymnast in Asia and came in 5th at worlds last year. On a good day she could medal in Paris but she may need help. And the Bulgarians are inclined towards helping others medal way too often for the sanity of their fans.

Bronze medalist with ribbon at 2022 and 2023 Worlds is the beloved veteran finally able to shine later in her career. Think about how WAG fans feel about Georgia Godwin or Ellie Black and mix that with the elegance of an Eythora Thorsdottir. She originally competed for Russia but switched to Slovenia in 2018, in contrast to someone I will mention later Irina Viner did not oppose her transfer. A key difference was that Viner never saw Vedeneeva as a threat to take medals from Russian gymnasts.

Remember how I said Germany will have a hard choice, after Varfolomeev they have two very talented gymnasts plagued with inconsistency. Kolosov is likely the one who will win out here (which some may feel is right as she earned the second German spot at worlds however the other athlete wasn't permitted to compete at 2023 Worlds....). I think of Kolosov for her incredibly aggressive towel throwing at the start of her walk out. Every time.

Kolosov can't breath easy because running neck and neck with her is her club mate Anastasia Simakova but if inconsistency marks both of them it does Simakova more. She had been a Jr. World Champion for Russia and came to Germany (where her parents had immigrated) in 2022. Simakova's family are from the ethnic German minority in Russia and she told Irina Viner that she was going to Germany to get (a very real) back injury treated. And never came back. The Disney Villain of Gymnastics was displeased and held up her country transfer for a year. A stress point is that she didn't immigrate to a country where it would be easier to make the Olympics. She moved to the one her parents had already immigrated to.
Viner has allowed Russian gymnasts to leave and compete for small unthreatening countries in the past, but generally those have been "B" team gymnasts. Simakova had far too much success and Germany (and her coach Yulia Raskina) were far to outside of Viner's control to allow it.

The most successful Hungarian rhythmic gymnast ever, she won bronze with the hoop at 2023 Worlds. The Spanish crowd gave her a nickname after the motion one makes while making potato croqueta.

The French were very proud of the fact that they qualified both a group and an individual in their own right and didn't need a host spot. Karbanov doesn't quite have the difficulty to contend for medals but her artistry is lovely and enjoyable.

Domingos is pretty decisively the best RG in the Americas right now and I expect insanity when Rhythmic Worlds is held in Brazil next year. One of the things I love about this routine is you can clearly see how they can't grip the ball so the handling has to be precise.

This was my personal favorite ball routine of last year, it was choreographed for the University Games in Chengdu but she didn't end up going. She was very careful to make sure she included a mix of real Chinese martial arts movements. I also really like her 2024 Clubs to the music of Black Panther. Though Berezina was born in Russia and her sister works in film there now, she has lived in Spain since she was 4 and has had all her training in Spain. She is a product of the robust Spanish gymnastics system, not the Russian one.

Harnasko is the Tokyo bronze medalist and without question I think the best non Bulgarian FIG authorized RGI who wont be in Paris. She can not qualify as her only path to the Olympics would have been the European Championships and European Gymnastics has maintained their ban. That said, I don't think even if Harnasko had been in Paris she would have medaled. Having watched her over the course of the season (as well as other Belarussians), it's fairly clear to me that the Belarussians haven't maintained the difficulty curve to stay competitive.
That covers the top individuals, there will be another European (not from a previously qualified country) and an Australian in the field. Group isn't my thing and I'm not keeping a running tally of the leading scores for groups so this will be a bit more vibes

Most tragically at 2023 Worlds. When your 5 Hoops routine is suddenly a 7 Hoops routine as you yeet the apparatus out of bounds.

I have been salty about the fact that Australia gets a free pass to the Olympics despite finishing 23 of 24 Groups at 2023 Worlds but apparently they have a new group this year who I'm assured is not that bad.
Anyway so that's the Olympic field, for the most part, because I'm a structural nerd I'm going to hit on a few other points.
Corruption
The sport has a terrible and long history of corruption, including judges cheating on FIG exams (you can thank rhythmic for why FIG doesn't like holding online exams), bribery, favoritism, and straight up writing the code of points to favor a particular athlete. I will be honest and tell you that the corruption kept me from giving the sport a chance for a long time and I don't blame you if you find it a non starter as well. It's still a problem but I have hope.
There is no getting around that Rhythmic is essentially an Eastern European sport and Russia has dominated for many years in part because of the immense amount of money they spend not just at home but in other federations. One might say that Irina Viner bought herself a sport. Not that it wasn't for sale before Viner.
To give a sense of the amount of money involved let's talk about palaces to Rhythmic Gymnastics. Literal Palaces.
This is the Irina Viner-Usmanova Gymnastics Palace in Moscow.
This is the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan, built in large part for the first lady/vice president of the country whose favorite sport is... you guest it.

Just the mention of Baku is enough to send some rhythmic fans into PTSD flashbacks for completely unjustifiable scoring (and terrible camera work and and and ...) . The fact that the arena was built for Rhythmic though, will explain to Artistic fans why the arena can't put both a beam and a set of parallel bars on it's floor space at the same time at the Baku World Cup.
The sport also has a vicious history of coaching abuse and eating disorders that I wont defend and I don't think has really been addressed. But the elephant in the room of all of this corruption and abuse is Irina Viner, the president of the Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation. Irina Viner was married to Oligarch Alisher Usmanov, at one point Russia's richest man. He's currently the president of the European Fencing Federation which explains how they've massively botched handling Russian athletes.

They divorced for financial reasons after Usmanov was subject to many many many sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine. His mega yacht is stranded in Germany.
Anyway, Irina Viner dresses like a Disney Villain and acts like one too. After she viciously attacked the judges at the Tokyo Olympics she was banned for 2 years starting from the day after Russia's international ban ends.

She has at different points told gymnasts that she'll kill them if they try to retire, and pulled Russian support from her own hand picked president of the Rhythmic Technical Committee because she didn't fall in line in Tokyo. The carrot to performing for Viner though is a promise of a marriage to an obscenely wealthy Russian man at the end of your career. Or you know... becoming the mother of Putin's children. So they're banned and they've dominated the sport for so long surely they're doing amazing things at their domestic competitions now. Well... for values of amazing. Viner has decided to create her own personal code of points which the Russians are now competing to. It emphasizes elements that in previous FIG CoPs caused massive numbers of injuries. Massive scores despite obvious errors and their gymnasts are breaking down physically. They've also brought up a non-apparatus routine setting called Free Hands which is normally competed by juniors... but hey if Irina likes it she's playing in her own sandbox now.
Would the Russians be competitive if they were in Paris? Sure. Probably. But maybe not? It's hard to tell when they're playing in lala land and have routines composed for an entirely different code of points. No Russians have applied for FIG AIN status.
But here is the best part.... Rhythmic Gymnastics is taking the time they have without the Russians and without Viner and they're fixing as much as they can as fast as they can. The age for juniors was raised last year (something Irina very much did not want) and the 2025-28 Code of Points takes a hatchet to a lot of the difficulty stacking (very broad over simplification) that has been written into previous codes to favor particular Russian gymnasts. They're basically unwinding what she did to the CoP either directly or through her influence.
And right now Rhythmic is more competitive than it's ever been. A wide variety of countries are winning medals, and the RGI All Around in Paris looks to be the most unpredictable that it has ever been and much more unpredictable than the artistic all arounds.
The biggest looming issue for Rhythmic though is the IOC's clear dislike of single gendered sports. With the introduction of men to artistic swimming it's hard to think that Rhythmic will stay in the Olympics for very long if they don't find some way to include men.
There are two competing styles of men's rhythmic but neither has a mass of athletes. The first is Japanese Men's Rhythmic which includes things you normally would see in Artistic. Some argue that it's basically a different sport.

Men's rhythmic faces a lot of resistance rooted in homophobia and I don't know how it's going to resolve. But the IOC is pretty much an unmovable object and they have been systematically forcing gendered integration on single gender sports.
