2024.06.01 13:25 Madrasta28 Graduate of pharma pero naging marketer tapos gusto magaral ulit

TLDR?
Retail, manuf, clinical. Tapos sahod 18-23k way back 2020 pa to pandemic.
I don't know what the freak I'm gonna do with my life. Dream school ko UP and kahit anong course willing ako pero gusto ko pa rin related sa mga experience ko na.
May chance pa ba ko? Iniisip ko magmasters nalang ng pharma para sa passion ko kaso inaalala ko baka wala na kong way makapasok sa UP. At baka wala ring matinong career nagaantay sakin.
Kundi ko man mapursue yung passion ko willing ako magmarketing or business ad courses (may plan din ako magtayo ng business and gusto ko maggain ng network) pwede rin computer science (mamaw mga to sa freelancing kasi x2 or more ung mga offers na nakikita ko).
So ayun may chance pa ba ko masters man or mag-aral ulit ng bago if gusto ko magUP? Note: nagtake na ko UPCAT nung 2012. Nganga.

2024.06.01 13:19 silveryknife Desperate for abortion

I found out i was pregnant when im at 15 weeks which i was very shocked as i don't have any symptoms. I cannot afford this baby.
I made some research that my country allow abortions untill 22 weeks and the cost is very high and i can only afford half of the price only. But most of the clinics allowed got very bad reviews and made me don't wanna proceed to go for it.
Im scared of taking pills because what if i only bleed and the baby doesn't come out? I cannot go to hospitals due to im hiding this pregnancy (plus i also cannot afford the bills).
But this one seller of pills gave me recommendations to take such as:
8 misoprostol cytolog 200mcg, 10 folic acid, 4 painkillers..
idk if its in a one go or days as im still asking the seller how is the process.
should i buy it? what will happen? im already at 17 weeks and desperate..

2024.06.01 13:11 Bull_Bear2024 The chicken and egg problem of fighting another flu pandemic

I confess I'm relatively new to looking into H5N1, coming to it from the perspective of a Moderna mRNA investor. Undoubtedly what is new to me, is unlikely to be new to many of you!
The following snippets come from this article (https://www.msn.com/en-gb/health/othethe-chicken-and-egg-problem-of-fighting-another-flu-pandemic/ar-BB1no5r5?ocid=msedgntp&pc=DCTS&cvid=00d29daa21a64cb5b10e1dfc6d284213&ei=55).

  1. "the currently stockpiled formulation against the H5N1 bird flu virus requires two shots and a whopping 90 micrograms of antigen, yet provides just middling immunity. "For the U.S. alone, it would take hens laying 900,000 eggs every single day for nine months," Bright said. And that's only if the chickens don't get infected.. there's always the frightening prospect that wild birds could carry the virus into the henhouses needed in vaccine production. "Once those roosters and hens go down, you have no vaccine," Bright [formerly of BARDA] said.
  2. "Billions of dollars have been invested into vaccines produced in mammalian and insect cell lines that don't pose the same risks as egg-based shots. "Everyone knows the cell-based vaccines are better, more immunogenic, and offer better production,".. The companies that make the cell-based influenza vaccines, CSL Seqirus and Sanofi, also have billions invested in egg-based production lines that they aren't eager to replace.
  3. Pfizer and Moderna are testing seasonal influenza vaccines made with mRNA, and the government is soliciting bids for mRNA pandemic flu vaccines, said David Boucher, director of infectious disease preparedness at HHS' Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response.

Bright, whose agency invested a billion dollars in a cell-based flu vaccine factory in Holly Springs, North Carolina, said there's "no way in hell we can fight an H5N1 pandemic with an egg-based vaccine." But for now, there's little choice.. the vaccines currently in the national stockpile are not a perfect match for the strain in question. Even with two shots containing six times as much vaccine substance as typical flu shots, the stockpiled vaccines were only partly effective against strains of the virus that circulated when those vaccines were made, Adalja said... Flu vaccine makers are just starting to prepare this fall's shots but, eventually, the federal government could request production be switched to a pandemic-targeted strain.
......
From my Moderna research, a 30May24 Financial Times article (paywall) said "The US government is nearing an agreement to bankroll a late-stage trial of Moderna’s mRNA pandemic bird flu vaccine.. The federal funding from Barda could come as early as next month.. It is expected to total several tens of millions of dollars, and could be accompanied by a commitment to procure doses if the phase-three trials are successful."
Before reading the H5N1_AvianFlu subreddit I had no idea $bn's were being spent on flu vaccines. Serious numbers like that, made me realize say $30-50m on mRNA was pretty cheap.
If of interest, Moderna's H5 candidate is known as mRNA-1018 Pandemic Influenza
A) https://www.clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT05972174?intr=mRNA-1018&rank=1 Refers to "mRNA-1018 for H5N8", "mRNA-1018 for H5 Only" & "mRNA-1018 for H5 Only-CG", among others.
B) https://www.pharmaceutical-technology.com/data-insights/mrna-1018-moderna-pandemic-influenza-likelihood-of-approval/ "MRNA-1018 is under clinical development by Moderna and currently in Phase II for Pandemic Influenza"
C) https://trials.modernatx.com/study/?id=mRNA-1018-P101 Moderna's own trial details.

2024.06.01 12:24 Fabulous-Detail6085 Clinical Fellow or Research Fellow for ACF application

Going to take year out of training to do an F3. Planning on applying for an ACF next year.
Ive thankfully got two offers - one is a purely clinical fellow job and the other is purely research. Both at major insitutions, and both in the specialty I want to do my ACF in.
Just looking for some insight from current ACFs - from an application point of view, which do you think would be more useful in terms of increasing my chances of getting an ACF post? Is there more weighting for formal research roles pre application?

I haven't started my fitness journey yet, though I have access to a gym. However, I'm very anxious about going in. I was diagnosed with clinical anxiety two years ago and haven’t taken medication. Being around unfamiliar people makes me hyperventilate, anxious, and red. I've been working on it.
I need a workout routine that I can follow alone, without needing a gym buddy to spot me. My goal is to get stronger, fitter, develop arm and shoulder muscles, and improve my core. Please include the names of the equipment so I can research how to use them before going to the gym.
Thank you for your help.

Thank you guys😭 + please read text below
I posted this last month and you really helped me get back to my track , can I re ask you how would a psychiatric nursing masters better than psychology masters?
I live outside USA in jordan and the psychiatric masters is both research focused thesis and practice focused 560 training hours in psych Institutions with advance diagnosis courses .
I am planning to apply directly after masters to PhD program in USA , not sure which program (phd of psychiatric nursing or psychology) but My goal is to be a therapist and a researcher .
Would a masters of psychatric nursing give me good placement in clinical or general psychology phd ? Should I look for psychology masters programs outside is it is unavailable in my country?
I know about the DNP but its very expensive so i am not considering it.

2024.06.01 09:32 Razzel-dazel UFE experience so far :)

Hey - knew to this! I'm a 39/F. I just had my UFE 2 1/2 days ago. I had mine done by an Interventional Radiologist/ Vein Specialist MD with 30 years of experience and I'm really glad i went with that option. I didnt ask my obgyn or anyone else what to do as an option for fibroids i just went online and researched all my options and found a Vein and Vascular Center that performed the UFE procedure as an outpatient that had great reviews. I had twilight sedation which i like better than anesthesia because i don't like waking up all drowsy and frankly it scares me. They gave me a mix of fentanyl and something else and it was easy peasy. I only felt the needle going in stomach for numbing (mild) the pelvic area and also when i think they removed the catheter out of the artery (i think) that one irritated me slightly. I really wasn't sure what was going on i was just in my own little world lol. They didn't give me a catheter in my urethra however, so not all places will do that for the procedure. Post op they gave me antibiotics. The whole procedure took about 40 mins but it felt like 15 mins or less. Afterwards was sooo rough. Until i got my prescription for the oxy/ibuprofen i was in excruciating pain. But once i took those i was ok. My advice is to pick a pharmacy close by to where the clinic is! I was silly and traveled an hour to pick up at a pharmacy near my home (but i didn't know the pain would be so intense). Some say on here worst than contractions. I have never been pregnant so idk. Also, my IR told me that chances of pregnancy after UFE are highly likely. It just depends on where your fibroids are so definitely ask that question.
The major stuff i have noticed in just 2 days is i can't feel my fibroids anymore (one was 9cm and i had two smaller ones). The larger one was protruding out in my lower abdomen before. My uterus is smaller. No pressure when bending over. Stomach is flatter. Feel lighter. No horrid lower back pain anymore which i had for the past 4 years. Had my fibroid in there growing for 8 years. My sides are less fatty and bloated. I haven't had my period yet since it's not supposed to start for another 14 days.
The major thing with this procedure that my IR told me is that it will shrink your uterus which is where most issues are coming from. Mine was the size of a 18 wk pregnancy. Shrink or kill the fibroids and the uterus will decrease. I highly recommend this surgery, honestly. The only down part is the pain afterwards but just take your oxys right away and you'll be fine. Thats my experience anyways. Greatest decision for living my best life i have EVER made!!!!!

2024.06.01 08:27 Longjumping_Play_543 Match 2025

Hey everyone! 👋 I hope you're all doing well. I'm reaching out because I'm at a bit of a crossroads and could use some guidance.
I graduated in April 2023 and am now in the final stages of my house job. However, I don't have US clinical experience yet, and while I've diligently passed Step 1, Step 2, and OET, Additionally, I have two publications under my belt &, and I've been actively volunteering whenever available. On top of all this, I'm gearing up to apply for this year's match. However, there's a twist in my journey. I'm currently waiting for my K1 visa (fiancé visa) to arrive, and it's expected, though not confirmed, to be here around August or September.
I'm also pondering about what to do regarding US clinical experience (USCE) and ECFMG certification. Should I apply? Currently, I'm preparing for Step 3, building my CV through volunteer work and certifications, as I couldn't find any research opportunities yet, and also writing my personal statement. In addition to these concerns, another challenge I face is that my family lives in a specific area where I exactly want to match. How can I tailor my application to that? Given these multifaceted challenges, any insights or recommendations you could offer on navigating these decisions and circumstances would be immensely helpful! I know that many of you have navigated similar challenges before, and your wisdom could really help me find my way forward. Whether it's insights on managing visa-related delays, tips for the match process, strategies for tailoring applications, or just a fresh perspective, I'm all ears! 🙏 This group's support means the world to me.

2024.06.01 07:16 Purple-Turnip881 Am I cooked? Non-trad research

Hi all, curious as to what opinions are about the likelihood of me finding and getting into a program that will fit my research interest. I hope to do a non-trad PhD in chemistry, specifically computational work. I have no interest in working in a lab and could MAYBE compromise for computational biology. I am a rising senior and I only have basic science research in one lab doing purely computational work (no wet lab experience whatsoever) however I will have over 2000 hrs in the lab by the time I apply (plus 1000+ clinical research, hopefully a few pubs, and gap yr research lined up). I plan to use free time this summer to research programs with Chem as a PhD option and as well as computational labs. I also need to research better how I can combine medicine with comp chem bc I haven't too deeply yet. Mcat is the 27th so not happening rn. I also live in Boston and I know of comp chem being done at local hospitals, which I hope to do for my gap year. I love medicine and research both so much but if I can't do mdphd I am leaning towards PhD only. None of my mentors have questioned my interest or ability to get into a program but they aren't mdphds themselves. I haven't heard of a single mdphd with similar research so am I killing myself doing ECs for no reason? Will there even be enough programs to apply to? Is it possible to get into mdphd basic science programs with no wet lab experience?

2024.06.01 07:15 Economy-Plantain7625 Suggestions for what to do over the summer

I’m currently an undergrad looking for summer programs or certifications I can do. My interests lie in the sciences.
I currently have a job in a clinical setting and have applied to other positions (shadowing, volunteer work, research) and am waiting on a few responses. In the meantime, I’m a little stumped.
I got my CPAED/First aid certification, I have a few lab certifications (certification to work with lab animals), and some customer service experience. I have no formal clinical certification.
I was wondering, what certifications can I pursue while working part time? What positions do you recommend I try to pursue?

2024.06.01 07:09 Able-Entertainer-764 am I cooked

Okay so I’m nervous about one singular thing on my application. I have a 3.99 GPA 511 mcat, ~2000 hrs clinical work with ~2500 research anticipated hours (200 already done) but I have zero shadowing. Truth be told I was a college athlete with 2 majors (one non science) and like 4 jobs at all times and just didn’t have time to set up any shadowing since my school was pretty small and our premed committee was nonexistent. My personal statement is pretty strong and my LORs should be okay, but do yall think the shadowing is gonna hurt me a ton? I’m nervous lol

2024.06.01 07:05 DetectivePieholes Concerned about a small bump on cheek.. please advise

I recently (last week) got a case of what I think was sinusitis (self diagnosed) for the first time. I still am experiencing swelling in my right sinus.
I am concerned about a small bump that I can feel near my right cheekbone, towards my nose. I’m unsure what it is, but it seems like it could be near or within the area of my right maxillary sinus.
Is this possibly a nasal polyp that I should be concerned about??
I know I should probably go see a specialist, but since it is a Friday I would be grateful for any advice on the issue, as many testimonies online suggest urgent care or walk-in clinics might not be specialized enough to provide the correct diagnosis.
I’ll include more detailed account of my experience below, if it helps.
—————
My symptoms started with intense and sudden tooth pain, bad enough that I was unable to sleep. At first I thought the issue might be tooth related, but the pain was not specific to any tooth, which led me to believe my sinuses were the issue. I ended up taking 200mg Advil to try to get some sleep, but it was not sufficient for the pain, and I could only sleep for about 2 hours max before waking up with heavy congestion and pain.
The sinus pressure built up over the day, and I used a nasal rinse in hopes of relieving symptoms naturally. I ended up buying some Sudafed over the counter to relieve the congestion. This was very effective, however it did give me an intense headache and since it is a stimulant, would not be an option to help me sleep. I ended up only taking Sudafed this once. Again, I needed an Advil to sleep.
The next day, I felt extremely weak, along with some discoloration of mucus I was spitting out, I assumed it was my body fighting the infection.
I started a routine of sinus rinse into hot shower / steaming my face over hot water for 10 minutes twice a day, some apple cider vinegar and ginger tea in the morning to reduce inflammation, and Advil to sleep and give my body some rest to help recover and have seen an improvement in my pain.
However, I still have jaw tightness in my right side, as well as pressure under my right eye. I can also feel the swollen sinus while not on Advil, which seems to help with the inflammation.
I have also become somewhat dependent on Advil to function, as the pain is enough to prevent me from doing anything productive. I take one during the day to work, and one at night to sleep.
This has been on going for the last week, and I thought I might be on the road to recovery, but I noticed a small bump near my cheek, close to where my sinus would be.
I’m concerned this could be a nasal polyp, which apparently does not go away by itself. Doing some research on the topic, some online articles mention that I should avoid NSAIDs like Advil if I do have nasal polyps.
As I am essentially dependent on Advil to function, I’m becoming very concerned about this bump. I am also between jobs atm, and do not have health insurance.
My situation is generating a great deal of stress for me, which can’t be beneficial to my recovery…
If anyone has a similar experience or any advice to offer, it would be very much appreciated.

2024.06.01 07:05 officially_dah what is standard routine blood work while on T?

Hello all, hoping to start on T soon and İm accessing care in Japan. İve meeting with a psychiatrist to get a GİD diagnosis (necessary for gender affirming care here), who can also administer the shots in his clinic.
From what İ have researched, HRT in Japan is generally provided through clinics that do plastic surgery an the like, and not necessarily endocrinologists. İ want to make sure İm advocating for the care İ need. Aside from checking my T levels are in normal male range, what kind of lab work is standard for taking T?
edit: took out specific informstion to keep focus on main question!

2024.06.01 06:42 NotUrRegLatina Advice on getting an industry role

Hi all!
I am currently a Senior CRC at a site. I’m actually the only CRC in the department in charge of 10 studies for 7 different neurosurgeons. I do everything from start-up to being doing patient related activities. This includes 12 hour surgeries doing data entry in source documents and helping the surgeon follow protocol/guidelines (every patient is different for stem cell trials). I’m extremely underpaid for the amount of work I do. I have an MPH and MBA, have 6 years of experience in research but been in healthcare more than 10 years. I was previously a speech pathologist assistant. I have been promised the Clinical Research Manager title and never happened. I am very interested in working in industry but haven’t received any call backs. I am applying for project management jobs since most of what I do is regulatory work and being a liaison between site, sponsor and CRO. Any advice?

2024.06.01 06:12 Sweaty_Cow_971 Nhs waiting times

I was today years old when I found out that I can ask my gp for a referral to a private clinic instead of NHS and get treated for free. 4th paragraph to skip bk story.
I am currently on nhs waiting list for diagnostic laproscopy with suspected endo and left ovary to uterus adhesion.
My symptoms aggravated soon after my miscarriage around October last year and since then they have had me done 2 ultrasounds and 2 appointments. I'm honestly so sick of waiting. October time my symptoms were only there for a week at a time, now I'm lucky if I get a few hrs a month off. I am literally walking like an old lady to the gp and no one is helping me. I have had a and e trips I'm literally bed ridden and even when I can move I end up paying for literally just making myself some 2 min noodles I will be in agony standing. They have me on 12 different meds including dulextine, amtriptyline dihydracodiene and microgynon birth control to stop periods. I am also taking medical weed. I have had gyno issues bleeding etc since my periods first started and was diagnosed with pcos after which they never took me seriously, they blamed everything on pcos.
I was looking online cause I'm just sick of waiting I have no quality of life and am in so much pain. Even painless days there's so much tightness. I'm worried there's gonna be irreversible damage as since October all symptoms have just increasingly gotten worse. Anyways I found out that instead of having to wait a minimum of 6 months for surgery I can request my gp to refer me to a private clinic like Nuffield who have specialised clinics for endo and pelvic pain. This will be under nhs and free of charge. Its a nhs program called patients choice.
Now I am fluming because every doctor nurse and everything else I have spoken to since October no one not one person told me about this. Why. Why when my regular gp has watched me lose the ability to walk why has she not mentioned it. Why when I've been crying when they tell me I had to wait a year for an appointment and I'm there begging her please I can't do this for a whole year and all she does is expedite the referral she made to nhs which yes they did hurry it up but I'm still 6 months down the line and have to wait at least another 6 months before surgery.
So for all of you in the UK on waiting list with nhs f that and go ask ur gp to refer to a private one with shorter wait times. There doesn't even seem to be much of a criteria just its ur choice how and where u want treatment. Research. I will be speaking to my gp on Monday I just had to come let everyone know.
