2024.06.01 07:35 CT_Phipps (Pride) Ten Recommended LGBTA Friendly Fantasy/Scifi series
Let's hope this isn't downvoted to oblivion. submitted by CT_Phipps to Fantasy [link] [comments] https://beforewegoblog.com/ten-recommended-queer-friendly-sci-fi-fantasy-reads-for-pride-month/ Queer reads are something that has always existed among fiction, especially genre fiction, but it is has only recently been the case that they've allowed to start emerge from the shadows. That doesn't lesson the role they've always had, though, as many people have a compelling argument that the driving force for Trekkiedom (the godfather of all modern fandom) was actually slash fiction. Still, it can sometimes be hard to find fiction where the characters aren't minor, killed off quickly, or allowed to express their sexuality. Plenty of other readers also assume any queer friendly work has to be focused on romance. As a queer friendly author, I know it's not THAT hard to put a prominent character in your stories but finding books containing said content can sometimes be a chore. What are the books where the characters are LGBTQA and simply allowed to be? Well, here's my picks as a CIS heterosexual man as clearly everyone is clamoring for my insight. JK. I've tried to pick a mixture of indie and traditional. 10] Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison Blurb: The first book in #1 New York Times bestselling author Kim Harrison's Hollows series! All the creatures of the night gather in "the Hollows" of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party . . . and to feed. Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining—and it's Rachel Morgan's job to keep that world civilized. A bounty hunter and a witch with serious sex appeal and an attitude, she'll bring 'em back alive, dead . . . or undead. Review: The Hollows is an extremely fun urban fantasy series following the adventures of Rachel Morgan and her best friend Ivy that just about everyone wanted to hook up among the fandom but, sadly, didn't. Still, while Rachel seems mostly straight, Ivy remains a fantastic bisexual motorcycle riding vampire detective that really could have handled her own series. She's also a rare Asian American protagonist. 9] Legacy of the Brightwash by Krystle Matar Blurb: Tashué’s faith in the law is beginning to crack. Three years ago, he stood by when the Authority condemned Jason to the brutality of the Rift for non-compliance. When Tashué’s son refused to register as tainted, the laws had to be upheld. He’d never doubted his job as a Regulation Officer before, but three years of watching your son wither away can break down even the strongest convictions. Then a dead girl washed up on the bank of the Brightwash, tattooed and mutilated. Where had she come from? Who would tattoo a child? Was it the same person who killed her? Why was he the only one who cared? Will Tashué be able to stand against everything he thought he believed in to get the answers he’s looking for? Review: Legacy of the Brightwash is a fantastic book that is up there with Kings of Paradise for being an argument that indie doesn't mean lack of literary quality. Tashue is a bisexual man and one torn by the obligations of duty in his steampunk world that treats everyone with magic with horrifying rules as well as suspicion. Unfortunately, the choices forced on him include dealing with it appearing in his own family. 8] Miskatonic University: Elder Gods 101 by Matthew and Mike Davenport Blurb: Miskatonic University is bathed in the blood of the students who have walked its halls. A place where the darkness is more than just shadows. As with many of the best universities, many students having a distinguished family name—but at Miskatonic this can be as much a curse as a blessing. Such an aged repository of occult histories has secrets of its own. Miskatonic University is an anchor for all reality. Held tentatively in place by spells woven into its walls over generations. Someone, somewhere, is breaking those spells and all of the universe is on the brink of tearing apart. Review: I am going to be biased toward any queer friendly HP Lovecraft material and had quite a bit to choose from (as another entry will show). In this case, I had to recommend a delightful SUPER POWERED's esque urban fantasy that is more Buffy the Vampire Slayer than cosmic horror. Still, I love the character of Ralph who wants to leave his isolated religious community to play football as well as express his sexuality. It's just that community is Innsmouth. 7] Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree Blurb: Come take a load off at Viv's cafe, the first and only coffee shop in Thune. Grand opening! Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve. Review: The archetypal example of "cozy" fantasy these days. Viv is an orc who just wants to open a coffee shop in a Medieval Dungeons and Dragons-esque setting. She's also a lesbian. This results in her having an awkward relationship with her succubus employee, who everyone has dismissed as a tart because of her species. It's actually really sweet and something that I would have loved to have a sequel to follow up on (instead we got a prequel). 6] The Witness for the Dead by Katherine Addison Blurb: Katherine Addison returns to the glittering world she created for her beloved novel, The Goblin Emperor, in this stand-alone sequel When the young half-goblin emperor Maia sought to learn who had set the bombs that killed his father and half-brothers, he turned to an obscure resident of his father’s Court, a Prelate of Ulis and a Witness for the Dead. Thara Celehar found the truth, though it did him no good to discover it. He lost his place as a retainer of his cousin the former Empress, and made far too many enemies among the many factions vying for power in the new Court. The favor of the Emperor is a dangerous coin. Now Celehar lives in the city of Amalo, far from the Court though not exactly in exile. He has not escaped from politics, but his position gives him the ability to serve the common people of the city, which is his preference. He lives modestly, but his decency and fundamental honesty will not permit him to live quietly. As a Witness for the Dead, he can, sometimes, speak to the recently dead: see the last thing they saw, know the last thought they had, experience the last thing they felt. It is his duty use that ability to resolve disputes, to ascertain the intent of the dead, to find the killers of the murdered. Celehar’s skills now lead him out of the quiet and into a morass of treachery, murder, and injustice. No matter his own background with the imperial house, Celehar will stand with the commoners, and possibly find a light in the darkness. Katherine Addison has created a fantastic world for these books - wide and deep and true. Review: I love THE GOBLIN EMPEROR but, sadly, Katherine Addison wasn't interested in continuing to write for the character of Maia. However, she was interested in continuing to write for her world. Thara Celehar is a priest who has the ability to talk to the dead. He's also a gay man who has had tragedy in his backstory but may well find love again (but isn't actively looking). Through him we get to explore the steampunk fantasy setting of Addison's world and its many mysteries. Who murdered an opera singer and what was their motivation? Will anyone accept the disgraced priest who, nevertheless, now has friends in high places? 5] Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice Blurb: Here are the confessions of a vampire. Hypnotic, shocking, and chillingly sensual, this is a novel of mesmerizing beauty and astonishing force—a story of danger and flight, of love and loss, of suspense and resolution, and of the extraordinary power of the senses. It is a novel only Anne Rice could write. Review: It's interesting to note the subtext was never particularly subtextual but a lot of people insisted it was until the movie and television show made it impossible to deny. Yes, Louis and Lestat are lovers with their adopted vampire daughter Claudia. There's also a bunch of musings about immortality, God, killing to survive, and the ennui of living in general. The series goes off the rails after the fourth book and was already pretty strange by the third. Still, the first two books are classics for a reason. 4] Villains don't date Heroes by Mia Archer Blurb: Night Terror. The greatest villain Starlight City has ever known. The greatest supervillain the world has ever seen. She rules her city with an iron fist, and there are no new worlds to conquer. Needless to say life is pretty damn boring. All that changes when she decides to shake things up by robbing a bank the old fashioned way and runs into the city's newest hero: Fialux. Flying Fialux. Invulnerable Fialux. Super strong Fialux. Beautiful Fialux? Night Terror has a new archenemy who might just be able to defeat her, but even more terrifying are the confusing feelings this upstart heroine has ignited. She doesn't like heroes like that. She definitely doesn't like girls like that. Right? Only she can't deny the flutter she feels whenever she thinks of Starlight City's newest heroine! The line between hate and love is a razor's edge that the world's greatest villainess will have to walk if she wants to hold onto that title! Villains Don't Date Heroes! is a lesbian scifi romance novel that explores the world of villains, antiheroes, and heroes in a whole new way! Review: I admit this book is probably not going to be anyone's idea of a classic but it's also nice just to have something that's just plain fun. This is basically Megamind if the protagonist was a lesbian and in love with Supergirl. It's not remotely serious and yet has a lot of fun with our mad inventor heroine dealing with her very unwelcome crush that is interfering with her plans to take over the world. I didn't really gel with the series as a whole but the first book is just plain fun. 3] Dreadnought by April Daniels Blurb: A trans teen is transformed into a superhero in this action-packed series-starter perfect for fans of The Heroine Complex and Not Your Sidekick. Danny Tozer has a problem: she just inherited the powers of Dreadnought, the world’s greatest superhero. Until Dreadnought fell out of the sky and died right in front of her, Danny was trying to keep people from finding out she’s transgender. But before he expired, Dreadnought passed his mantle to her, and those secondhand superpowers transformed Danny’s body into what she’s always thought it should be. Now there’s no hiding that she’s a girl. It should be the happiest time of her life, but Danny’s first weeks finally living in a body that fits her are more difficult and complicated than she could have imagined. Between her father’s dangerous obsession with “curing” her girlhood, her best friend suddenly acting like he’s entitled to date her, and her fellow superheroes arguing over her place in their ranks, Danny feels like she’s in over her head. She doesn’t have time to adjust. Dreadnought’s murderer—a cyborg named Utopia—still haunts the streets of New Port City, threatening destruction. If Danny can’t sort through the confusion of coming out, master her powers, and stop Utopia in time, humanity faces extinction. Review: Probably one of the best superhero novels I've ever read that just so happens to also be a trans lesbian coming of age story. Danny is a girl who lives under a homophobic father when she gains the idealized form she's always dreamed of (which was being a beautiful superpowereful woman). Unfortunately, not everyone in the world is ready to accept that the heir to the Superman equivalent is a trans girl. This includes a TERF-esque druidess and what is basically Elon Musk (surprise-surprise). I want the third book in the trilogy now. 2] Of Honey and Wildfires by Sarah Chorn Blurb: From the moment the first settler dug a well and struck a lode of shine, the world changed. Now, everything revolves around that magical oil. What began as a simple scouting expedition becomes a life-changing ordeal for Arlen Esco. The son of a powerful mogul, Arlen is kidnapped and forced to confront uncomfortable truths his father has kept hidden. In his hands lies a decision that will determine the fate of everyone he loves—and impact the lives of every person in Shine Territory. The daughter of an infamous saboteur and outlaw, Cassandra has her own dangerous secrets to protect. When the lives of those she loves are threatened, she realizes that she is uniquely placed to change the balance of power in Shine Territory once and for all. Secrets breed more secrets. Somehow, Arlen and Cassandra must find their own truths in the middle of a garden of lies. Review: Sarah Chorn is an incredibly underrated indie author and a fantastic reviewer as well. Her Song of the Sefate books are the ones that everyone should read, though. Basically, Wild West stories set in an alternate world where they harvest a magical substance called shine. The protagonists are a lesbian and a transman who are primarily dealing with the plot of resistance to corporate control. It can get dark but it is fantastically written and written from a place of heart. 1] Winter's Tide by Ruthanna Emrys Blurb: After attacking Devil’s Reef in 1928, the U.S. government rounded up the people of Innsmouth and took them to the desert, far from their ocean, their Deep One ancestors, and their sleeping god Cthulhu. Only Aphra and Caleb Marsh survived the camps, and they emerged without a past or a future. The government that stole Aphra's life now needs her help. FBI agent Ron Spector believes that Communist spies have stolen dangerous magical secrets from Miskatonic University, secrets that could turn the Cold War hot in an instant, and hasten the end of the human race. Aphra must return to the ruins of her home, gather scraps of her stolen history, and assemble a new family to face the darkness of human nature. Winter Tide is the debut novel from Ruthanna Emrys, author of the Aphra Marsh story, "The Litany of Earth"--included here as a bonus. Review: Ruthanna Emrys is a Jewish lesbian woman as well as a massive HP Lovecraft fan. You can understand why she has a different perspective than Howard Phillips on a few things. Her Innsmouth Legacy series (which needs a third book dammit) follows the adventures of Aphra Marsh as she investigates the supernatural with a closeted Jewish FBI agent, a lesbian professor of mathematics, and her bisexual debutante associate. Aphra herself is ace and someone who just doesn't think about human men or women that way. Honorable MentionVelveteen Versus the Junior Super Patriots by Seanan MaguireBlurb: "How dare you? I never asked for you to hunt me down!" No, Velma Martinez hadn't. But when you had once been Velveteen, child super-heroine and one of The Junior Super Patriots, West Coast Division, you were never going to be free, even if your only power was to bring toys to life. The Marketing Department would be sure of that. So it all came down to this. One young woman and an army of misfit toys vs. the assembled might of the nine members of The Junior Super Patriots, West Coast Division who had come to take her down. They never had a chance. Velveteen lives in a world of superheroes and magic, where men can fly and where young girls can be abducted to the Autumn Land to save Halloween. Velma lives from paycheck to paycheck and copes with her broken-down car as she tries to escape from her old life. It's all the same world. It's all real. And figuring out how to be both Velveteen and Velma is the biggest challenge of her life, because being super-human means you're still human in the end. Join us as award-winning author Seanan McGuire takes us through the first volume of Velveteen's - and Velma's - adventure. Review: I'm a big fan of this series and am sad that it's not available on Kindle or paperback. The story follows Velvet Martinez who is a girl who can animate toys. Which is a deceptively powerful ability. One of the most interesting plotlines in the book, though, is her relationship with Sparkle Bright. Velvet assumed she had been going for her crush going up but she was actually a closeted lesbian girl (because of the Marketing DepartmentTM). Sparkle Bright gradually achieves self-actualization and starts a relationship with steampunk heroine, Victory Anna. Plus, there's the Princess who is a trans girl representing all princess tropes. |

¡Hola todos! submitted by PurlogueChamp to dreamingspanish [link] [comments] My 600 hour update is here https://www.reddit.com/dreamingspanish/s/nusKeJ7iQl It's been a crazy 7 months. 🙂 The second half of chemo was horrendous but I somehow hit my hour target almost every day and since 5th December (my final chemo) I have done at least an hour every day, even on Christmas Day! I'm still on treatment every 3 weeks but I've been really lucky with hardly any side effects. Mostly it's dealing with my crumbling nails and patchy hair. The main treatment finishes in September then I might have another year on another drug - not yet decided. The bigger barrier (a nice one!) to my Spanish has been doing loads of fun stuff, which is my way of coping (if the worst happens I'll know I made the most of it, and if not, I'm still having loads of fun). But I'm actually really happy with this pace and the balance I have with other things in life. I started reading more consistently at 600 hours, which I am loving. My main goal was to be able to read. I haven't been very strategic with it though...the books I choose to read tend to be whatever is free on Kindle or what I can find for cheap at World of Books. I read a few children's picture books, some graded readers, then some chick lit (which ordinarily I can't stand but I can just about cope in Spanish) and Crime novels. I've read about 25 books in the past 7 months (not bad considering I joined a book group so I've read a lot of English too!). I'm currently (foolishly) reading El Viaje del elefante by José Saramago, which is way above my level but somehow I'm following the story and it's very funny. I still have no interest in speaking so I'm not worrying about that, although my daughter has picked DS back up and is almost at 150 hours so maybe I'll have a talking partner in a few years. I don't enjoy podcasts so most of my input is DS plus YouTube. I like travel vlogs and videos about interesting things like Linguriosa. I'm very happy mostly watching DS - I really enjoy most of the content. I have tried watching Netflix on the TV (no headphones) and I'm just not quite there yet to be able to relax and enjoy series. I don't like to struggle through videos so I'm happy to wait until they're easy. There's tons of YT I can watch now. I don't like to plan too far ahead anymore, but I have a vague hope of visiting Spain for the 2026 total eclipse. I should easily have hit 1500 by then so maybe I will one day speak! Thank you to everyone who makes Dreaming Spanish such a fun hobby - all the team but also everyone here on Reddit. See you in 500 hours! |

2024.05.31 20:40 Revnir My Theory on the DLC, The Gloam Eyed Queen, and More
This is my first post, but just wanted to get out some thoughts I've had regarding the story trailer and some of the lore surrounding the creation of the Erdtree, as well as The Gloam Eyed Queen. Never written something like this before so I apologize if the formatting isn't the best, but just wanting to have some discussion around this. A lot of this discussion isn't new, so I wont be delving into those areas as much to reduce length. submitted by Revnir to EldenRingLoreTalk [link] [comments] Melina is The Gloam Eyed QueenI don't think this is a new theory amongst the Elden Ring community, it's long been talked about after seeing Melina's cutscene during the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending where we can see her eye. However, I do think this is important for me to establish as I go deeper into my theories.I won't go too deep into this section, so I apologize if this is brief, I just don't wish to rehash a lot of already discussed points. My main reasons for this are two fold:
Melina is the Daughter of MarikaAgain, nothing new. We know in the files that Melina is referred to as "MaricaOfDaughter". She follows a similar naming scheme to Miquella, Melania, Margott, Mohg, and Messmer. She talks about being given her purpose from her mother inside the Erdtree. I feel like the evidence is pretty overwhelmingly clear in this case, so I won't elaborate much further here either.Okay, now for the juicy bits that will be a bit of conjecture but I believe have a fair amount of evidence backing them up. The Timeline of the Erdtree and Elden Ring in GeneralMarika's Rune in the Story TrailerIn the new story trailer we see Marika forming what most believe to be the Elden Ring, or at the very least the birth of the Golden Order. However, I think this is a little bit of a logical jump. In the trailer we see Marika holding the strands that she's plucked out, yet they only make 1 shape: The rune at the top of the Elden Ring, which I will refer to as Queen Marika's Seal. It is also possible it is the bottom shape, although I assume that is just a Rune Arc. https://preview.redd.it/egtki4wqrs3d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=aac459c54fd7a57a8f59308294b855c2a55aecca https://preview.redd.it/e6imoijwrs3d1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=4fa87cf1e36222be358b03bcb690ca6c425fa6c5 I don't think we can say 100% that Marika had created the entirety of the Elden Ring at the point in the trailer, rather she had created her own rune, allowing her to infuse her will into the Elden Ring later on. The Crucible Most people are assuming that the tree like structure we see in the story trailer is the primordial Erdtree, referred to as the Crucible. I, too, believe this assumption to be true. The main reasons for this being the similarities to that screenshot and the opening at the base of the Erdtree https://preview.redd.it/0ock0fcrss3d1.png?width=1102&format=png&auto=webp&s=32d25b4e3bf52ff2befb8035dcac9aebfd257ae9 https://preview.redd.it/k88ymmutss3d1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=c8c2845d815c498e30962767e8e9b4060525b925 Beyond this, we have clear references to the Omen in the new Lion Headed boss that is being fought in the story trailer. I think it is a safe assumption to make that the shot we see in the trailer is Marika forming her rune at the Crucible, thereby turning it into the Erdtree or at least beginning the process of it's transformation. The Elden Ring BEFORE the Golden Order We know from the Remembrance of the Dragonlord that Placidusax was an Elden Lord before the time of the Erdtree, implying that there was an Elden Ring before the Golden Order. https://preview.redd.it/ptj9fefpts3d1.png?width=505&format=png&auto=webp&s=f7abc127bb45c31258e5dd55e7722a8d2606100d This also makes sense, when considering Destined Death. If Marika had created the Elden Ring, why would Destined Death even exist? She had to pluck it from The Golden Order when it was created, however The Golden Order isn't synonymous with the Elden Ring, it is a system of belief encompassing The Elden Ring, The Erdtree, and Queen Marika. https://preview.redd.it/7ojn7eyaus3d1.png?width=502&format=png&auto=webp&s=0d16ae0327be1cd1373fd3c737b0aa4c0ad981fe https://preview.redd.it/syhjqlpkus3d1.png?width=375&format=png&auto=webp&s=15c439c3b487d492bede04dface22d86318e9787 Thus, I believe that the scene we see during the cutscene is actually Marika's creation of her rune, and subsequently the Erdtree, but NOT the Golden Order or the Elden Ring we know. I believe at the time she creates the Rune, Placidusax is actually the current Elden Lord with an unknown God in charge of the existing "Elden Ring" (quotations explained later). The Following War In the gameplay trailer we see the Wicker Golems, who would later be seen in the story trailer laying waste to a Crucible civilization, led by Messmer. On the Wicker Golems we can see the heads of Fire Giants and Dragons. around their waist https://preview.redd.it/2mc5d08nvs3d1.png?width=923&format=png&auto=webp&s=b4e7c14a78b6c399ab81c49ca5558cf368b07f0c https://preview.redd.it/3ll3b45uvs3d1.png?width=1171&format=png&auto=webp&s=7a32c2ed12a8fa30f8978f7506de397f42829c57 This part is where it is a little fuzzy for me, as we do not know if the Crucible war or the War of the Giants came first, however it is clear that the golems are used in both. The only thing we know about the War of the Giants comes from the description of Smithing Stone (7) https://preview.redd.it/kllzi3l4ws3d1.png?width=778&format=png&auto=webp&s=5b5d362eaa25b0ba3a496ff89518dbccd6da4e1c To me, I think this implies that the War against the Giants came first, however I'm not sure it truly matters. Ultimately we know that there was a War against the Giants, and that somehow Dragons were also involved. My theory is this: After creating the Erdtree, Queen Marika needed to be rid of the current existing God so that she could assume the throne, as well as remove the Giants ability to burn the Erdtree, thus preventing the Golden Order from taking over. Some evidence for this is found on the description for the Elden Lord Armor https://preview.redd.it/qe7ja62zws3d1.png?width=372&format=png&auto=webp&s=0a328464782d37847133a21fc015a496ad0e7c3b Note that it does not say Godfrey was the Elden Lord at this time, merely Lord of the Battlefield (Likely still as Horah Loux). After this, with Marika having won this war, she was able to fully create the Golden Order. From there she could have Messmer destroy the vestiges of the Crucible civilization, who were likely rebelling due to their tree being turned into the Erdtree. Marika also potentially utilized the Giant's Flame in the Wicker Golems (or maybe even powering Messmer himself, although I admit this is all conjecture, but somewhat makes sense as only that flame was a threat to the Erdtree). Connecting the DotsSo, with this established I believe the timeline is as follows
The Gloam Eyed Queen: RevisitedWe know that they only way to kill a God/Demigod is the use of Destined Death. We also know that TGEQ wielded this power, as well as her servants, the Godskin Apostles.Similarly, we know that Melina was given a purpose by her mother (Marika) at the base of the Erdtree. That purpose seems to be bringing Destined Death to The Lands Between. My theory on this is as follows: Melina was Marika's first child, to an unknown father. Melina showed an aptitude for utilizing the current powers of the previously "Elden Ring", more specifically the powers of Destined Death. Seeing this, Marika realized she could use Melina to kill the existing Gods and allow her to create the Golden Order and thus gave Melina her purpose: Bring Destined Death to The Lands Between Melina led her Godskin Apostles to kill all the Demigods in the Lands Between, and ultimately the currently existing God, allowing Marika to take the "Elden Ring" and remake it, by removing Destined Death. Maliketh is referenced as the person who defeated TGEQ, and is Queen Marika's shadow. What if the existing God was the one the Fire Giants worshipped, and by defeating them and their God, Marika was given access to the Giant's Flame. She then had Maliketh betray Melina, by using her as Kindling, thereby transporting Maliketh to Farum Azula where Marika would effectively imprison him along with the Rune of Death she had just plucked out. This would explain why Melina is burned, why she still seeks to bring Destined Death to the Lands Between, and how TGEQ was an Empyrean. The Previous "Elden Ring"I want to call specific attention to the reference of the Storm Lord in the Elden Lord Armor description. Placidusax is found at the heart of the storm in Farum Azula, a place only reached after using the Giant's Flame in game. Even further we can see on the description of the Old Lord's Talisman that Placidusax was an ancient king. I believe that Placidusax and the Giants were both part of the same faction, united under the same God. During that battle, their God fled, with Godfrey fighting Placidusax. The description never mentions that Godfrey killed Placidusax, merely that he faced him alone. When his God fell, and Maliketh used Melina as kindling, he realized that the war was over and went to Farum Azula in a stasis (which is possible since he can fly).https://preview.redd.it/dbq83pkp1t3d1.png?width=743&format=png&auto=webp&s=7cbde62ae5193cda7079c01ab7e7b6b1b888e1da His reference as Storm Lord also makes me wonder if the previous "Elden Ring" wasn't actually called that, but was instead something like the Storm Ring. This part is a little farfetched but just something I've mused over. How is Placidusax an "Elden Lord" (SUPER CONJECTURE HERE)This last theory is a pretty big reach, I will admit, but something I want to share to get some discussion around. In the description of the Remembrance of the Dragonlord it is mentioned that Placidusax's God had fled, not that he was killed.Another piece I've noticed, much like many others, is that the Fire Giants' hair is red, the same as Radagon. In the description of Giant's Red Braid we see the following https://preview.redd.it/jy19u1ms2t3d1.png?width=405&format=png&auto=webp&s=82f818cd0565e3db42374c433c0d4c74b7244fd0 This is a very farfetched theory, but what if in the War against the Giants instead of killing their God, Marika absorbed him. The God, facing Destined Death, would be inclined to be absorbed instead, allowing him to live on. This would ultimately be seen as "fleeing" and thus would end the war. It would explain why Marika is two beings, and could ultimately explain how Messmer would have fire powers (He would be the first child of Radagon and Marika). It also somewhat explains why there's only 1 chair missing at the base of the Erdtree, as Melina would've been born BEFORE the Golden Order, but Messmer would not. Radagon, being a new entity in Marika, would not understand himself or who he was, explaining why he would hate his hair. However, he would also yearn to be a God once more, explaining why he would seek to mend the Elden Ring at the end of the game. Even further, this could explain why Miquella/Marika are somewhat cursed, as they are born of two conflicting Gods (this is a stretch I know). I'll end this with the last description I find relevant to these theories, as this has gotten a bit long and I really only meant for this to incite discussion: https://preview.redd.it/7il24m8j3t3d1.png?width=515&format=png&auto=webp&s=8db17c8c0cc7bbf6fe2b797dc7f1466576305d70 If you managed to read this far, thank you. Adidas Adizero Adios 6 submitted by xuanyulow to RunningShoeGeeks [link] [comments] Hi girls and guys! Remember the Adios 6? I'm finally done with mine! A few related posts... Adidas Adizero Adios 6 (Tokyo Olympics F Edition) (11Oct2022) - impressions w/ Brand New + 170km photos Adios 6 - Durability - Continue? (26Jul2023) - midsole separation ~600km A little preface about me! • 5'3 (160cm) 112lbs (51kg) • Running, gyming, calisthenic Adios 6 Stats: my Adios 6's mileage. did I make full use of it? Midsole Height -Heel - 27mm Forefoot - 19mm Midsole drop - 8mm Midsole - Lightstrike + LightstrikePro Claimed weight - 231g / 8.14oz (5.5UK) Measured weight (new) - 215g / 7.58oz (6.5UK) F Measured weight (1000km) - 205g / 7.23oz (6.5UK) F Price / Paid - $120 USD / $75 USD Types of runs • Initially - tempo <3km (<2miles) fast runs for my annual army fitness test • Currently - LSD >15km (>9miles) slow runs for funsies! • some tempo 5kms, 10kms thrown in too Midsole ---- Lightstrike + LightstrikeProAdios 6 creasesLightstrike is extremely hard. After 1000km it's a brick. LightstrikePro is softer and bouncier, but still somewhat firm. After 1000km it's softer. Y-shaped Torsion System - can't really tell how much it helps. But the shoe is extremely stable. Pros • Guides runners to avoid heel striking as Lightstrike is harsh • Really responsive on faster paces especially when extending stride length • The bounce off is quite incredible when accelerating • Post break-in, midsole noticeably softens and runs get more fun Cons • Lightstrike • at slower paces, still responsive but noticeably duller • Lightstrike Lightstrike creases LightstrikePro hardly crease Note that this Lightstrike is the "older" formula, and very likely differ from the newer Adios / Boston / SL lineups. Lightstrike is too harsh for me. It's the primary reason I'm retiring the shoe as my heels are getting destroyed more and more each run, it's literally getting baked into a hard breadstick. LightstrikePro did lose some bounce and significantly soften up. But the low forefoot stack height doesn't work well with it's softness as the ground feel became increasingly prominent. Y-shaped Torsion System must've made the midsole so stable. The moment you slightly over-pronate, the shoe snaps your feet back to flat on the landing. Good? As a first running shoe, it's incredible :) It made running really fun and therapeutic. The ability to ease into a cruising pace and just thomp after thomp was ASMR vibes. Outsole ---- Continental rubberwear after 1000kmContinental is incredible. Rain, metal, cobbles has nothing on this outsole. I once heard a review saying Continental makes ferociously grippy outsoles, and it's undeniable. Even now, I put 100% faith in it's grip. It's just that the Ribs are pebble magnets. Get a stick to dig out the stones once every few runs and it'll be fine. forefoot rubber Forefoot - looks like different compounds are used for left and right The pad of LightstrikePro sees just a tinge of wear. rearfoot rubber Rearfoot - do I have a problem! this is the right shoe, am I supinating? Lightstrike sees a little wear too. Well deserved considering how bricked up it is. :P Overall, incredible outsole. Upper ---- Adidas Textileupper is near perfect - albeit dirtyAdidas Textile Mesh Upper - very breathable. Mesh is soft, yet firm enough for lockdown. It's good. Suede Overlays - I guess for aesthetics only. A few runs gave me blisters underneath the suede portions. Would be better off with other kinds of structuring, this suede is kinda stiff. Gusseted Tongue - first experience with gusset, why the hell doesn't all shoe come with it. So secure! Heel Counter - okay, it's kinda stiff and made heel slip a little issue. extra lace holes - versatility? (I didn't use the outer holes at all!) Big note that upper separated from midsole around ~600km in, as seen in the linked post above! Heel Counter sits proud Heel Counter is stiff and sits proud. The overlay keeps it stiff, and the "cat ears" hugs my ankles well. It's okay-ish. The Heel Counter plus Y-shaped Torsion System made the shoe stiff. The shoe hardly flexes, and through the gait, I can feel the heel lock sliding slightly. I used a runner knot for majority of my miles to overcome the sliding, plus thicker socks helps too. Overall, it might just be a pet peeve insignificant nitpick, but still...could be better! mini tear. obviously it still has alot of life left just a mini tear at the Heel Cup, no biggie. Only started tearing after ~700km. Incredibly resilient for a tempo shoe. Insolesimple, thin, close to unpadded insoleInsole is branded Adizero (as it should!), but not much to comment. It's thin, non-supercritical foam and has a soft "suede" texture to it. It grips well to socks. Pretty satisfactory. mini tear on underlay underneath insole Underneath the insole, there's a mesh layer before the midsole. As observed, a mini tear developed (on both sides) in the forefoot. But otherwise, near perfect condition. Conclusion...Extremely satisfactory first running shoe! It performs as well as it should as a tempo shoe. Not so much for LSD...Took me wayyyy too long to complete 1000km. I know it's rookie numbers, but I'm kinda proud of myself! This shoe most likely would've been forgotten by most, but I hope this post kindles a tinge of nostalgia. My Adios 6 definitely still can handle more mileage, but I've chosen to retire it:
gonna display this over my bed It looks so silly, but I like it! Cringey, corny, embarrassing. It's calling out to me. P.S. I have no lawn to mow. |
