2024.06.01 13:48 GameKingSK Review of the game after almost 2 weeks

Review of the game after almost 2 weeks
XDefiant has been out for almost 2 weeks now so I’d like to share some general observations I’ve made over the pre-season period. I have a little over 11 hours of pure in-game time, while Ubisoft Connect shows a little less than 20 in total.
https://preview.redd.it/p8ei6wig7y3d1.png?width=1720&format=png&auto=webp&s=bd14474018ba5365ec45d1059f7093b8cf0d880a
I’m not a pro or anything, but I think I’m decent enough to provide good feedback.
The positives:
  • No skill-based matchmaking is great, at least for me
  • The maps are generally quite good
  • Gunplay is fun and the guns are relatively balanced within their classes, nothing is too OP like say the pre-nerf Model 1887 from MW2
  • The current gamemodes are good, I like the spin they did on kill confirmed
  • I like the ability to modify your loadout mid-game
  • Game generally runs well on my hardware without major issues, though I did get weird stutters that I fixed by switching between DirectX versions
  • Having characters from Ubisoft games with unique abilities is a pretty interesting concept
The negatives:
  • This is not necessarily a negative since it’s tied to the game being a free to play arena shooter, but I thought it was worth noting – it’s never going to be a CoD killer, and I think the #1 reason for that is the amount of content. CoD has a campaign and Warzone, on top of more guns, perks, killstreaks, etc., XDefiant is never going to have the diversity of CoD
  • Obviously, hit registration. It has improved since the start, but there are still improvements to be made. I’ve noticed that my last shot (especially when using a DMR or sniper) often only registers clientside, but not serverside. I don’t know if there’s any fix to this since it’s mostly a byproduct of higher ping, but it’s very annoying
  • Sound feels inconsistent, gunfire drowns out a lot of other noise like footsteps. Sometimes it’s very easy to track an enemy based on their footsteps, sometimes they just appear next to you with no prior warning
  • Snipers need to be adjusted, playing aggressively with them should be more difficult since at the moment, there is pretty much no sway or flinching
  • The progression is too slow, I think 1.5x the current rate of earning weapon XP should be a pretty good adjustment
  • There need to be more camos unlockable by gameplay, not just the bronze, silver, and gold skins we have currently
  • Screen shake from grenades is a little obnoxious, especially since the grenade spam in this game is pretty strong
  • Chat censorship is should be off by default, at least in my opinion
  • The game seems to discourage diversity when it comes to classes. Instead of everyone using something else to make a versatile team, I feel like it’s stronger to pick the same class and use the ability one by one (to get a “permanent” wallhack, shield, or always have a spider on the ground)
  • Speaking of the spider ability – I’m not sure it’s the right way to go. Unlike, say, the heal ability, it doesn’t really benefit the player who used the ability (since they’re often not following the same path as the bot), but it hugely inconveniences the receiving player
  • They should probably also reconsider the phantoms’ extra HP boost and find a more suitable passive
  • Echelon’s ult is OP and needs to be nerfed, not because of the wallhack, but because of the extremely strong pistol
  • An option to adjust sensitivity for all specific sights should be added
  • Having collision turned on for teammates and off for enemies feels counter-intuitive
  • No ping system
  • Make lobbies persistent
  • Spawns feel pretty bad sometimes, I’ve spawned out in the open directly into the line of sight of a Phantom DMR player sitting behind a shield, with no way of fighting back. Make the spawns happen in the same general area but not one exact spot
  • Escort matches run even though it’s literally impossible to win because you don’t have enough time to push the objective. Imo they should make it so that if you push uninterrupted after the time has run out, you go into overtime until you reach the previous position and earn a draw, or the push is interrupted and you get a loss
This may seem like a very negative post from the number of points I made, but please note that these are mostly small adjustments that should be looked into, not large fundamental changes.
Overall, I enjoy the game a lot and if the devs can support it, I will keep playing for a long time.
Other notes and observations:
  • Movement is something that I didn’t mention in my positives or negatives because it seems extremely subjective. I personally lean towards keeping it, maybe with some small adjustments, but it’s also the #1 reason I hear from people who don’t want to try the game or keep playing it. Imo, it will cause a divide similar to building in Fortnite
  • So far, I haven’t met many cheaters, maybe like 1 in my whole playtime, but as we know, BattlEye is not the most amazing anti-cheat, so I hope they can stay on top of the issue
  • A setting to not join matches mid-game should be considered, though this may make gameplay less fun for people whose teammate left the game and now they’re stuck in a 5v6. They should at least make the loss from a match you joined mid-game not count
  • The battlepass only seems to have skins for weapons I’m not interested in playing
  • Play the newcomer gamemode if you can, it’s easier than jumping straight into randoms
  • I think they should add all chat and maybe even voice chat for the whole lobby (yeah I just wanna trashtalk people)
  • They should explain how skill rating is calculated since it seems pretty weird, but I think it increases linearly with playtime
  • Gun attachments don’t seem to matter that much, there’s no “busted” or meta loadout for most guns and you can do well with almost any combination of attachments
  • I hope the game receives frequent updates with gamemodes, maps, weapons, etc. because I’m worried that I’ll get bored eventually

2024.06.01 08:48 Edwardthecrazyman Hiraeth or Where the Children Play: More and More [19]

First/Previous
Since I knew there was a time before, I’ve wanted it, but that was child’s hope; even as a boy I wanted a dream. I wanted some divine being to enter from heaven and tell us all how it should be, but that wasn’t something I could ever count on—of course. Is there a god? I think so. I’ve seen those things and if they exist, then surely there’s a maker on the other end of it—god made both the light and the dark if the word’s to be believed and all we can hope for is a glimpse of the former. Even for a second.
The streets were soaked with blood and so many artillery rounds were fired into the sky—many I witnessed missed Leviathan—that I forgot what silence was like (not to mention the screams and there was a lot of that).
In the scrambling, I found I was reentering deeper into Golgotha and that wasn’t good. There was the ever-present thought that Maron was around every corner; the man had haunted my thoughts for longer that he should have and every time it was like an overwhelming force. It was simple enough after all, he was a piece of the past, a piece I could theoretically reach out and touch and that was what kept me to him.
In the fray of bolting citizens, I pressed myself to the exterior of a wall—I’d neared the stairs which once led to my apartment—and I kept out of the way of those that mindlessly went; some of those which rushed from the onslaught were those afflicted with skitterbugs and many of them either hobbled on blackened legs or—and this was rare—comrades or family helped to carry those which could not carry themselves. It was a baffling sight. A man carried a woman like a child (her toes had fallen off and her legs were black to the knees) and though he strode on with her, his own boots were caked with a mixture of blood and earth. An older girl led a young boy from the whirlwind of dust which was kicked up in the square; the boy’s eyes were whited, and his hands were curled to his chest, discolored. People, whatever duality there is, cared. There was not a drop of the apathy I’d learned and encouraged in myself.
I chewed like a mad dog through my bindings, and it was of little use; I yanked at the cord which secured my hands together and received rope burn in return. “Bitch!” I cussed the thing, but the flames in the sky were so loud, the bangs and vibrations from the artillery consumed all so it was like yelling in a barrel. I swung my hands out in front of me, feeling useless and felt a sudden urge to try again. I bit into the cord and repetitively motioned my jaw against the pressure of the cord, like I was going to saw through it with my teeth. Ha! Another yank is what brought my left hand free, but not without tearing a triangle of skin away from my wrist.
The cord dropped to my feet, and I looked around; a woman brushed past me, nearly toppled over my foot and I caught her by the wrist before she went head-over. She violently thrust from my grasp and screamed something at me. Another bout of flames burst from Leviathan’s maw as it circle-dove overhead. The heatwave from the blast exploded across my face so that I recoiled from the sky itself till I was on the ground, and I pushed myself from the earth and ran half dog-like from my place there at the wall. Where? It was hard to say where when every person that touched-by seemed to send me in another direction; in the madness, it was impossible to tell my course.
With time and effort, I found my way to the opening where the hydro towers were, three pillars which rose above Golgotha’s skyline, each one a testament to human resilience—engineers laborers toiled untold hours under Lady’s father to construct them. The hydro towers exploded into rubble as Leviathan slammed into them. Rock rained down as cutting shards and destructive boulders. A man lay beside my feet where he'd been pinned by the onslaught—white concrete kept him there by his chest—he gasped for air and blood already formed around him. In a moment, I looked away at the dying man, his half-whited eyes bulging at me. Meat hung from the left side of another man’s face as he cradled his head in his hand and moved like he was stoned and sat among the stomping feet; he slumped into the spot he sat and did not move till others came by him in a hurry and he simply fell onto his side like a toy animal.
The screams were too much. I looked to the towers, the nubs which had broken away like bad teeth against the red sky, and whole people fell alongside the rubble, limbs and showers of blood and Leviathan latched atop the towers and rocked its massive body so that the structures slipped directly from their foundations and tumbled over like pins. I ran and again there was nothing but chaos, nothing but mind-numbing wilder thoughts—it was grim and there wasn’t a place for coherency; it was all snaps of images.
In the mess of bumbling limbs, I pushed through to the hall of Bosses and there were people there already, rushing the stairs; the ground shook and I assumed it must’ve been the towers. The things demolished all in their path, and briefly, I saw the ramshackle structures which normally stood in their shadows come slanting over and people leapt from those places too and landed poorly and there was a cacophony of tremors through the earth—it felt as though hell should open.
The steps at the base of the hall were flooded and it was a fight to climb them as legs came high up from ahead and swiped at those behind and I kept my hands ahead of me to block whatever foot may come my way.
Wall men stood ready with their rifles at the tops of those steps and fired their weapons indiscriminately into the crowd. Bodies, big and small, piled atop the steps after a brief bullet dance and it came that I wasn’t only climbing stairs, but corpses; the warmth of their flesh as I clawed ahead remained and blood fog hung in the air. That grouping of wall men, casually lined before the doors of the hall were overtaken and they disappeared, their rifles cackled and came alive with muzzle flashes and the animal hands of the horde brought them to ground.
Us, the horde, funneled through those front doors and for a moment, in the thick walls of the hall, the outside world audibly disappeared; the blood and dust remained, but it was quieter save the shuffling feet and cusses of passersby I was carried deeper.
Those that worked the underground went quickly and I followed, and those ignorant followed for the sake of survival and it was not long till we stumbled into the Boss’s lair. With room, people dispersed like water through the tunnels and found dark recesses to tend their wounds or mourn whatever was lost and the explosive open air had been fully replaced by the quiet black oppressive mumbles of people taking stock of all those that had died. And all those that would. Every few moments, the walls shook, and dust fell from the ceiling fixtures.
A few haggard folks moved to the doorway which led to the damp room which led to the kitchen, and they slammed the door shut and latched it and began to check adjacent rooms for things to barricade the way.
“Stop!” said a man in the dim flickering underground light—I was surprised to see the man was me, “Leave it open! Others might need help.” I retraced my steps to the small faction that’d gathered there at the doorway. “You can’t just let them die out there. Let them in.”
“Shut up!” a skinny girl with her hair pulled back on her malnourished skull spoke gruffly; she choked, coughed—dust clung to her clothes—she’d been near the collapse of the hydro towers if I guessed. “Step off, or I’ll—
“Or you’ll what?” I shouted.
The girl put up her fists, two lumpy stones, and in stupid response I closed the distance between us. With speed, her fist met my nose, and I stumbled back on my heel.
Without hesitation, I brought up my own hands and landed a blow to her stomach. She craned forward, gasped on repeat, and took a knee.
Blood wet my upper lip, and I wiped it away with my forearm.
“Move,” I said to the others by the door; there were two: a woman and a boy that was nearly a man.
The boy charged headstrongly, attempted a kick and I easily shoved his small frame against the tunnel wall; the hard metal sounded a meaty thud against his body and the woman launched unseen at me, raked her nails down the back of my neck, and tore at my collar. I kept a forearm to the boy’s throat and rocked his head with my free elbow. Once he wept and spit red, I let him go; the boy slid into a sit and I spun on the woman, shoving her away. My left leg began to give, and I used the wall over the boy’s head as support. I swung at her with a wild claw and my fingertips grazed her nose as she fell away to the opposite wall.
“Stop it!” I shouted.
She launched at me, and my leg gave out under her tackle, and I stumbled half-on the boy, my feet kicked helplessly at her, and the boy regained his composure and began to crawl towards me. We wrestled and then the girl I’d knocked in the gut rejoined the fray. I was done. They had me pinned and spat curses at me and took turns shoving my head into the floor.
“You’re going to get us killed,” shouted the woman, “Are you stupid?”
I grinded my teeth and tried to throw them off; I was overpowered and easily pressed down again.
The overhead lights flickered with another deep earthy vibration and the trio let go of me in an instant—I came up swinging my arms like crazy and as I went to kneel before propelling myself to stand, a hand rested on my shoulder. I spun on the hand and was met with the black mouth of a 9mm pistol—that froze me fast.
The owner of the weapon—a wall man by the look of her fatigues—motioned for me to stand and I did. Her eyes were far off and nervous and the metal shook in her outstretched hand. “Against the wall!” she barked at us; she was small-framed and youthful but full grown, and I could easily push her out of my way if not for the pistol. We went to the wall, and she moved to the door while keeping the gun drawn on us. She watched us and glanced at the door. “It’s latched! Who latched the door?” She asked.
No one spoke. The other three looked to their feet; I initially refused to rat, and snorted blood—my nose throbbed and by touch I could tell it swelled already.
“Well? Why’s it closed?” she asked the question more like a desperate child than a person with control. “C’mon!” The 9mm rolled limply on her wrist as she said the word, like she was attempting to draw the confession from us with the motion.
“There’s an attack. They’re killing everyone,” said the boy.
The girl and woman nodded.
“Who?” asked the wall man.
“Demons, muties,” said the boy, “Big stuff. Everyone’s dying.”
The ground shook as if to emphasize his point.
The wall man studied us for a moment, lingering last on me and for the longest and she took a long breath and let the sigh out dramatically slow. “I know you,” she motioned at me with the gun, “You’re that maniac. The one that tried to murder everyone.” Her eyes fell then returned and she put her weight on the door while maintaining the barrel of the gun eye-level in my direction.
“I ain’t gonna’ hurt anyone,” said. I briefly thought about smiling but decided that’d look worse.
“How do I know that?” she asked.
“Yeah,” said the boy, “He tried to kill us already!” His voice cracked with adolescence; the blood I’d spilled from his mouth coated the front of his holey shirt.
The trio nodded all together—everyone agreed that I was a maniac killer.
“They latched it,” I said, “Cowards.”
A thump came from the other side of the door which frightened the wall man and she leapt from the spot she’d leaned—it took several full seconds to realize her gun went off; there was a flash, and my ears rang. I stumbled from the knot of people and slunk a couple of feet from the space by the door. The girl—the one I gut-punched—collapsed to the floor while holding the right side of her face. The women crowded the girl, panicked, the boy sprinted past me and disappeared deeper into the underground, and the wall man stood there with a wretched blank expression. There was a long moment which hung in the air; I could not hear and then it came back, and it was the girl’s screams I heard first.
Upon stepping to them, I saw the prone girl had been shot just so—through the cheek. Her eyes rolled from likely spinal damage; whatever the angle, it seemed to have ripped through irreparable nerves and she bled a lot. There wasn’t any hope for that girl.
“Well,” I said to the wall man, “Finish it. No reason to make her suffer.”
The girl on the ground writhed unnaturally and caterwauled while the woman by her side attempted to calm her.
Greater became the sound of the belabored hands on the other side of the door; then a hollow-sounding gunshot came from the other side; were they shooting the door? Or each other? Another round—human screams.
The wall man shook her head. “I didn’t mean it. It was an accident.”
I tried to hold the wall man’s gaze, but she didn’t seem able.
With speed, I moved to the wall man, reached for the gun which dangled helpless by her side—her initial response was to flinch, pull the weapon from my reach; our eyes locked and I clenched my jaw. She could’ve killed me. There wouldn’t have been surprise from me if she had.
She let go of the gun and I nodded, and she nodded and the woman kneeling by the girl threw herself over her. “Please,” protested the woman, “Please don’t!”
With the aid of the pistol, I was given space, and nothing was said. I mentally prepared myself for the ringing which accompanied gunfire in small spaces, even tilted my head away with my free palm up and took aim and the girl jerked once then went still.
With the ringing going and sound returning, the drumming on the door returned, as well as the quiet weeps of the woman; she crawled to the wayside of the hall, pressed her back against the wall and rested her chin on her knees with her arms around her shins. She didn’t rock to or fro and hardly made any noise at all. But the small and quiet sobs remained faintly there.

2024.06.01 08:14 TheGreatLuthe Suggestions part 2

So I had suggestions before, and one suggestion I didn't know was already in the game, but it takes awhile to get there, but I do have more suggestions.
This time, I'd like to suggest a new Klown type as well as abilities and equipment. The new Klown I thought of is Tubby. This would be a fat Klown like the Tank, but different as this Klown likes eating or has abilities that implies they eat a lot. They'll be much like the Tank, but obviously some variations off, like health and strength make sense to have, but poor sense as they prefer eating, poor stamina which means they are definitely slow, but their abilities and gear could change up how they play.
For Cotton Candy Gun, I'm thinking a long distance Rifle or Sniper. The Tank when unlocked gets the gun that charges up then fires a laser that really hits humans good, and I'm thinking the same concept, however not the same. What I'm thinking is having a slightly better version of the standard Cotton Candy Gun that hits harder, farther, and really can get a human taken down quick, but overheats really quickly and in short bursts, meaning this would act just like the first and standard Cotton Candy Gun, so if you're familiar with that, it might be easy to get into this gun as it too would act the same, but different. Again in small bursts, so while the standard gun can be shot for like 5 seconds or so before it overheats, this one will overheat in 3 seconds, meaning you better target well, but it'll hit the humans hard.
The alternate weapon, I was thinking a Fishing Hook that they cast out and if they hit the human, the human has to fight to get the line off, but the Klown has to reel them in. I think it could be a good concept, the Klown is going fishing...
As for abilities, I was thinking this Klown is so fat and Tubby, thus the name, much like the invisible car, the Klown begins to roll and other Klowns can help roll this Klown to roll over humans. The faster they move whether from nonstop rolling or being pushed by other Klowns, the harder the hit to humans are and if going fast enough, it'll instantly take down the humans if caught in the rolling Klown. I think it would be funny to see a Klown rolling around like a Boulder or Snowball. Maybe the other Klowns can pick him up and chuck him into humans to knock them down as well...it would be hilarious.
For a kill, I was thinking because of all the Cotton Candy sacks that you either turn humans into or find for Klowns to put on generators, perhaps we see this Klown turn them into a Cotton Candy sack, then drink them until the sack is empty, and it goes quick because the Klown is fat anyways and likes eating.
This is just a suggestion, but what do you think?

2024.06.01 05:40 SteamedSpy4 [CLAIM] KAABU: A Republic, If You Can Keep It

“Counting the days yet, Mr. President?” Haidara asked the former football star as he settled in to the box seats at the top of the Mustapha Stadium. The league had extended an invitation to the President to watch the first game in the All-Africa Championship Series since the pause during the war, and one Governor of Nigeria, Modibe Haidara, had been granted the honor of escorting him. It wasn’t yet public knowledge that the President was planning to retire, but from where Haidara was sitting, it was obvious. Two Great Liberation Wars had taken their toll on the man who liberated Kaabu.
“Only one month left now,” Pogba chuckled, looking even wearier than his 80 years. “I’ve had enough war and politics for two lifetimes. This job isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I don’t know what I was thinking- I think it was the money, if you can imagine it.”
“I didn’t think the money was that good. They certainly don’t pay me that much.” Haidara replied.
“Oh, it wasn’t Kaabu’s money. I can’t say I ever expected to end up here when that recruiter made me the offer. To be honest, for the first ten minutes I thought he was trying to recruit me to play for USM Algiers.”
A Union Security Service officer in a tuxedo and black sunglasses handed the President a pair of noise cancelling headphones as the flyover appeared on the horizon. Haidara put in his own earplugs before the roar of five Su-75s drowned out the crowd. The jets spun as they broke over the field, flashing from their light blue underside to the green and tan camouflage on their top surface, making way for the KJN bomber following behind to swing low over the stadium with its wings spread wide. By the time the roar of the jets faded away, the crowd was cheering even louder than before.
“You know, I’ve seen quite a few crowds in my day.” Pogba quipped. “But this still doesn’t compare to those Greeks back in ‘57. They sure knew how to put on a show.”

President Mansa Pogba announces retirement after 27 years

November 16th, 2072
By Emile Okongo
More about this author
Abuja. President “Mansa” Paul Pogba of the Republic of Kaabu, one of the founding heads of state of the Union of African Socialist Republics, has announced his retirement after 27 years and will not stand for reelection in 2073. Mansa Pogba was elected as candidate for the All People’s Party in 2045, and won reelection to a second seven year term in 2052, while the Bandung Pact and Arab League armies were drawing battle lines across Kaabu. Less than a year later, the Third Brother War had begun, and over the next five years Pogba would lead Kaabu from the brink of defeat to a hard-won victory with the armies of the global south at its back, becoming the first country to liberate itself from the grip of the Alfr empire. Pogba put his own life on the line, leading from the front, when he dropped from orbit into a Greek colosseum to kill his android doppelganger in single combat at the conclusion of the war.
Pogba was reelected in 2059 and 2066, overseeing the reconstruction of the Republic and the formation of the Union of African Socialist Republics alongside Chancellor Baksoro of the Sawahil Federation and Director-General Mabaluki of the Cuanza Directorate. Pogba’s unshakeable reputation kept the Republic intact in the wake of the apocalyptic devastation of the Third Brother War, as the nation reeled from 18 million dead and entire states laid to ruin by the League invasion. Pogba was, famously, one of the strongest proponents of both the northern campaign and the “peace through strength” plan that concluded at the Istanbul Conference. Pogba never spoke on his betrayal by the Arab League, the nation that was once Kaabu’s strongest ally before turning around and laying waste to it, but it was clear that the experience left an impression on him. It was Pogba who cast the deciding vote to abandon the invasion of Badiyah, warning that the Caliphate would never surrender and that the UASR would suffer “a stain that could not be washed out” trying to occupy it.
Pogba’s successor will inherit a nation still trying to come to grips with the new normal of a post-Great Liberation War world. The reconstruction effort shaded into the global resource crisis and the transition to the baraza-based socialist economy as the Union sought to escape earthly material bounds entirely with an enormous asteroid mining program. New urgency has been added by the 2100 Program- the so-called ‘30 Year Plan’ to transition to a “75% post-scarcity” economy before the onset of the African demographic collapse, and the social upheaval the mass introduction of automated industry is already creating.
Mansa Pogba is expected to retire to Guinea, where he will coach the national football team. Governor Modibe Haidara of Nigeria, an Army veteran and the leader of the All People's Party, has a strong lead in polling and is widely expected to succeed Pogba in the upcoming elections.
Army General Abdirahman Saqhadi, commander of 20th Urban Assault Army “Cairo” and the Sahara Military District, was not having a good day.
“What do you mean,” he opened, with what he considered to be a generous amount of restraint under the circumstances, “we lost fifty fucking xenomorphs in the exclusion zone?”
His chief of staff shrugged. “Tracking picked up fifty xenomorphs in the border fortifications heading for Assode two days ago. 81st Air Rifles had the watch in that sector and sent an airborne team out per standing orders, two Havocs running recon and two Leopardcats with kill teams. Tac team got there and didn’t find a damn thing- no dead xenomorphs, no live xenomorphs, no tracks, nothing. When word got back, Colonel Makaya sent half his recce wing out looking, and they didn’t turn up anything either. Makaya’s intel people think the bugs died and got buried in the sandstorm overnight, but I think they’re arrampicarsi sugli specchi if you ask me.”
Staff Sergeant Giovanni Alessi had been Saqhadi’s chief of staff for as long as he had had one, the general reflected, and he still had no idea what the Italian was saying whenever he broke out one of his favorite idioms. It probably wasn’t important.
“Half an airborne regiment of Bundis should have seen a xenomorph pack.”
“Brigade staff, army staff, and district staff agreed. Every intel head in Makaya’s chain of command told him to go back and find the bastardi, but Makaya’s people spent the whole next day combing a 250 kilometer radius and didn’t turn up anything suspicious. Vehicle tracks, but there’s more civvie traffic in the exclusion zone than there used to be.”
“Vehicle tracks. Could it be-” Saqhadi took a mental inventory of any domestic terror threat suicidal enough to fight xenomorphs and insane enough to hide the bodies, and came up with a very short list. ”-Sokoto sympathizers?”
“Could be, but them and what AT detachment? We shot the last ones with anything bigger than a Kalashnikov nine months ago. Intel thought about it but they don’t have a clue how or why.”
“Goddamnit. Pull in the Civil Guard and InSec, and get Makaya all the recon assets we can retask without making a scene. We haven’t had any civilian casualties from xenomorph attacks in six months, and I don’t want to start back up right after Issoze signed the treaty. If xenomorphs are disappearing, we’ve either got a bug problem or a really fucking weird domestic terror threat, and I want to know which one it is.”
Si, signore.” Alessi saluted. “Should we let the president know?”
“Eh, let him enjoy his game.” Saqhadi glanced towards the back of the command center, where some enterprising signals intelligence tech had repurposed a row of flatscreens to watch the Championship Series. “Damnit, Libreville just scored. I had twenty birr on Mombasa.”

COMMITTEE ON LONG HORIZON PLANNING: REPORT ON THE POST-CALIPHATE THREAT ENVIRONMENT (2072)

INTRODUCTION: COMMITTEE CHAIR A.GEN[OF8] YEMI MUSTAPHA (UAA)

CLEARANCE LEVEL KILIMANJARO/3
IF YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO HANDLE MATERIAL CLASSIFIED KLMJN/3, REPORT IMMEDIATELY TO THE NEAREST INTELLIGENCE CORPS OFFICER IN YOUR CHAIN OF COMMAND
...it is therefore the opinion of this committee that war with the EMPIRE OF JAPAN should be considered inevitable within the next thirty to fifty years. I am aware this is not the conclusion that the Presidium was hoping for, but it is the only one this committee can in good faith give.
For the past thirty years, the Union and its predecessors have pursued a policy of maneuvering for geopolitical advantage by prioritizing near- and medium- term threats [SEE ATTACHMENT: REPORT ON WAR PLANNING IN THE ALFR PERIPHERY (2062)]. With the collapse of Afheimr and the Russian Commonwealth, this strategy has reached its logical conclusion. The Union has succeeded in taking advantage of the loss of Alfr support and eliminated its most immediate adversary in the Caliphate. At the same time, Japan and the UNSC have also succeeded in consolidating control of former Russian territory and the Caliphate’s sea lines of communication. The problem now facing the Union is simple: we have successfully achieved a decisive near term geopolitical advantage beyond the wildest dreams of planners a decade ago, and it was not sufficient to offset the Japanese military advantage.
This committee is aware that the budgetary and political realities of the post-Caliphate threat environment are not likely to yield an enormous modernization program. Expected spending reductions have been factored into the conclusions of this report. It is my sincere hope that the Presidium is fully aware of the risk it runs in choosing to turn inwards and consolidate the gains of the Final Brother War. The endless climb is almost at its summit. There are now only two power blocks remaining in the world: the Japanese hegemony, and the Bandung Pact. If Japan wishes to complete the climb- to reach the summit- they will have to go through us.

2024.06.01 05:08 kiltedfrog Just a small party, a few people, and light drinks.

"Thunderclap, will you fucking stop that?" Green Growler said.
"Uggghhhh, stop what?" Thunderclap replied.
"That isn't him, that is your own pulse in your head dumbass." Esperelda, the mind sharing martian maiden said, she was usually far kinder. Green growler cocked an eyebrow at her in surprise and mouthed 'dumbass?' at Thunderclap, who only shrugged. Then the martian vomited, blue, so much blue. She'd tried to share their last party member's mind, but she was still whirling drunk.
The woman on the ground was called Kickass Karen, she was... well, a kind of generic super. Super strong, but not like... punch the planet in half strong or anything. Just bending steel beams and jumping over medium size buildings in a single bound, strong. No flight powers or laser eyes, but she could run about as fast a car on the freeway in short bursts, but a motorcycle might get away, however clearly she did not have super alcohol tolerance. Oh, she was also mildy bullet resistant. Small caliber tended to bounce off her, but she was hit in the hand with a .50 cal sniper rifle once, and it broke a bunch of her hand bones but only left a small cut on her skin.
Esperelda was the only one on her feet. When she stood up a handful of cows in the pasture noticed them, and started coming over.
"Mooooo!" Thunderclap said to them as they walked up. He slapped himself slightly in the face. A barbarian of a man in all ways, but still a little too hungover for that. He groaned, regretting slapping his own face.
Green Growler turned himself into a green housecat. Any predator would do, but he didn't want to startle the cows by being a tiger or something big. "Is Karen alright?" He said as a cat.
She lifted up her head at hearing her name. "I'll live. Ugggghhh my head. I swear to Mrs Infinity, I'm never drinking again. What even happened last night?"
Kickass Karen sat up, her bob hair cut somehow still immaculate. Super hair. A digital camera dropped from her chest and landed in her lap.
Esperelda, being the least hungover by far, asked, "What is that device? Is that a camera? Perhaps it'll have some clues as to how we ended up in this state."
Karen tossed it to her and then rolled over onto all fours and threw up. Super threw up. Sitting up was a super mistake.
Thunderclap staggered to his feet and made himself busy petting the cows. Using them to keep his balance too. He was still drunk, hungover for sure, but also still drunk. "There's a plume of black smoke rising over the horizon."
"Oh no..." Esperelda said, looking at the last couple of pictured they'd taken before jumping from what looked like a private jet they'd stolen. "That's probably the airplane we jumped out of."
Kickass Karen groaned. "That must be why I feel like I shit."
Green Growler jumped awkwardly up onto Esperelda's shoulder, ended up needing to use far more claws to get his perch than he meant to. "Shit sorry, sorry, sorry. I was just trying to get a view of the camera."
"You were trying to not have to walk yourself." Esperelda said settling him on her shoulders, "I don't even need to use my Martian Mind powers to know that."
Thunderclap laughed. "She's got you there bud."
"Good Lord! Delete that immediately." Growler said to Esperelda looking at a picture of him being ridden as a tiger by three scantily clad women.
"Did you see this one?" She scrolled back the other way. Taking them later in the night, this one showed him having his belly pet by a handful of nude party goers.
"Okay, so what the fuck happened last night?"the Green cat said, "Go back toward the start."
"I am, I am. Look at this one." Esperelda showed him a picture of him as a green tiger licking a woman's back.
"Delete that too." Growled the Green feline.
"In the mean time we should head toward that plume of smoke in case people there need our help." Kickass Karen said. She tried to stand and immediately regretted it.
"Use a cow." Thunderclap told her, helping her up to lean on his while he staggered to the next one. "Good cows."
They were good cows. Friendly cows. The one Karen was leaned against licked her face. "I'm tellin your manager you're licking the customers." She joked.
As they walked toward the plume of black smoke, Esperelda and Green Growler put together the story of the previous night. They'd ended the night by crashing a plane, but before that they had had a wild night of debauchery... or maybe interrupted a wild night of debauchery and joined it. About half way through the camera roll the four of them stopped even being there. It was however pretty obvious that the revelry the people on camera before them was having was... well very illegal. It makes sense that they showed up.
"Look at this guy. He's in the background a bunch later in the night too. He's always there." Growler commented from Esperelda's shoulder, "Is he wearing horns? Or are those really part of his head."
"In some of the pictures he doesn't have them, and in other's... Oh it's when he's not looking at the camera, that he does." She said.
"I dunno how you two are looking at a screen right now." Karen said. Thunderclap grunted his agreement.
"Well, based on what we've seen, you two drank a magnificent amount, far more than either of us. Also Martians process alcohol much faster than humans. And Growler's his own weirdness."
"Hey, I'm not weird." The green talking cat said.
"Shape shifting green blob from outer space, that can only become predatory creatures... not weird at all." Karen said, and they all shared a good-natured laugh, and then groan at their head aches.
Esperelda kept flicking through the camera roll and finally coming to the begining, "The guy with horns absolutely started the out of control part of the party. This camera started it's night at a divorce party some twenty somethings were holding for their friend. There were six pictures on it before he showed up in the background the first time. And then things start to get wildly out of control, and fast. Fifteen minutes from his first appearance to straight up nudity and drinking to excess. He seems to have riled up enough people to join him in whatever he was up to that he robbed both a bank and a museum with a drunken mob, and then we showed up."
"Scroll us back toward the end of the night now." The green cat said, "I missed most of the part where we stole a plane."
The four of them crested a small hill in the cow pasture, and saw the smoldering ruins of their airplane not too far away, on the other side of the home attached to this pasture. There were fire trucks around, emergency personnel all over the place.
"Ah, here it is. Horn man joined us in the airport." Esperelda said, and then flipped through some more, "Here's us drinking with the TSA agent, and another of us pouring shots into a pilot's mouth... oh dear."
"Horn man?" A familiar, yet unfamiliar voice said. "That's a terrible name. How about you kids call me 'The Reveler!'
There he was, the man from the camera roll, sitting up in the pasture with them, like he'd just woke up well rested. The bastard had no hangover. He only had horns on his head when you weren't looking right at him in person, and only on camera when he wasn't looking.
"Hey buddy, don't take this weird, but are you aware your legs are on backward?" Thunderclap said. Kickass Karen grunted in agreement.
The Reveler laughed. "You must still be quite drunk if you're able to see my true form, but they're just goat's legs. Now, I had a good time with you kids last night. You lot came to break up my party, but you joined me instead. I like that. Lets do it again soon."
A pair of women had broken away from the fire trucks and emergency personnel and was walking over to meet their little group in the cow pasture when The Reveler turned to leave. He took one step and vanished in a puff of smoke that smelled of wine and weed.
The two women walking over were identical. A pair of Mrs Infinitys. They walked over to help Thunderclap and Kickass Karen to stagger out of the cow pasture and give them a hand getting over the fence. Esperelda set Green Growler on a fence post and hopped over herself, and then re-collected the cat.
When the two aliens turned back to face the humans, both Kickass Karen and Thunderclap were crying and apologizing to the Mrs Infinitys. And they were both being very reassuring and promising the young supers they had done a good job.
"Oh no no my dears, you did great! That was an ultra omega triple S-level threat, and you four managed to get through the night without anyone getting killed, surprisingly enough. A lot of property damage and theft though. A lot. That's Pan for you though."
Kickass Karen swallowed hard and squeaked out, "Did you say Pan? Like the Greek God?"
Both Mrs Infinitys sighed. The one next to Karen spoke, "Yes, he resurrected a few years ago. Since then, twice a year at the spring and autumn equinox he goes out partying. Looks like he likes you four though."
She plucked a green rectangular business card from the back of Thunderclap's costume. It had 'The Reveler' pressed into it. "Ahh, I see he's come up with a new name for himself. Wonderful."
Esperelda knew better than to try to share minds with Mrs Infinity, so she asked, "Well what's next?"
"Electrolytes. Probably something greasy to eat, and a nap, I assume." She smiled, and the other one started talking. "But in six months I expect Pan comes calling on you four again, and I hope you'll be up to the task to keep him entertained again. As yet, we have no idea how to contain him."
Kickass Karen swore, and Mrs Infinity said, "Language, Miss Miller."
Karen laughed and then groaned because her head was pounding. "Sorry, but just a few minutes ago I swore on you that I'd never drink again... and well ain't that some shit that you of all people would show up to tell me I need to train for a drinkathon with literal Pan. At least its not Dionysus right?

2024.06.01 04:28 Ellenwood1998 Throwing knives are good

The throwing knives have always been a fun pick, but they lacked reliability. This new update made them more reliable but it still doesn't hold up to the close range damage of melee and smg or long range of lh1 and sniper, but it's a very solid midrange weapon which light has never had. It's essentially went from a marksman to an automatic, and it allows light to cover its weakest spacing. It feels way too strong because they are throwing knives, but if you were to put the same stats on a rifle, no one would bat an eye. I love it.
People are losing their shit because they're getting eliminated with them and they used to suck. The knee-jerk is to check how the knives feel in the practice range, and if you stand still and hit a stationary dummy, you're obviously going to shred it in half a second. Once you factor in your inability to stand still without getting smited, the fact that all of your enemies are also mobile, and you're likely being shot at, the knives aren't that easy to use.
People racking up large kills with the knives are the same people that are already very good at playing light and are excited to try a new viable weapon. Once the hype dies down, it'll be about as common as any other light weapon in rotation.

2024.06.01 02:29 Outrageous_Equipment Wanted to get some thoughts on a thief-type RP build/run.

While I normally play New Vegas as a 1-Charisma sniper or a stimpack-chewing ape with a shotgun, I wanted to try something new this time. Also, I wanted to actually try RP, instead of just picking whichever option I always do. To that end, I thought I'd go for a a thief/casino heister, and wanted to get you guys' thoughts on it.

INTRODUCTION

The thief is a character that cares mainly about money and themselves. While they may choose to help others, it's never for purely benevolent purposes. To that end, they'll lie, cheat, steal, and barter their way across the Mojave, robbing places places and people blind, and get caught up in some political shenanigans along the way.

PLAYSTYLE

Overview Direct combat should be avoided wherever possible. Stealth or smooth-talking should be the go-to methods of resolving a situation, with a preference towards speech. The character is a thief, not an assassin.
Equipment Light armour and small weapons are the order of the day. Pistols, SMGs, knives, and knuckles are to be the primary weapons, though a shotgun and/or rifle may be carried as protection in the wastes.
Dialogue Dialogue choices should always be made with the intent to get a reward out of the other person, whether it's money, gear, or information. However, keep in mind that reputation and making friends with factions can prove to be a long-term reward. For example, while it may be tempting to shake down Bitter Springs for a monetary reward, they likely won't be able to give much. However, staying in the NCR's good graces can come in handy.
Combat Stealth wherever possible, stay at range if not. The build isn't suited for long, drawn-out fights, so end things as quickly as possible. Crits are the focus here, so use gear that boosts it.

BUILD

SPECIAL

  • Strength: 4
    • Build Reason: Don't need much strength for this build, since it mainly uses smaller weapons and focuses on crit damage. Weapon Handling and the implant can be taken if bigger guns are needed.
    • RP Reason: The character doesn't need to be exceptionally strong. Anything they're looking to steal on their own will likely be fairly light, or at the very least, fit into a pack.
  • Perception: 6
    • Build Reason: Needed for Light Step, Better Criticals, and RP-related perception checks.
    • RP Reason: Good thieves need good eyes.
  • Endurance: 5
    • Build Reason: Doesn't need any adjusting. Endurance doesn't have any perks that are relevant to the build.
    • RP Reason: While the thief is no athlete, they're still going to be hoofing it across the desert. A little fitness goes a long way.
  • Charisma: 5
    • Build Reason: Much as I'd like to make it a dump stat, RP demands it be left as is.
    • RP Reason: When shootouts and stealth aren't an option, there's always the chance to smoothtalk someone.
  • Intelligence: 7
    • Build Reason: Skill points. That's basically it.
    • RP Reason: A smart thief is a good thief. Plus, hacking can shut down advanced security systems.
  • Agility: 6
    • Build Reason: With an extra point from Small Frame and the implant, I can take Tunnel Runner later on.
    • RP Reason: Being nimble and dextrous is, quite obviously, an advantage in the thief's line of work.
  • Luck: 7
    • Build Reason: With the Implant and the Lucky Shades, 9 is more than enough to break the casinos and have decent crit.
    • RP Reason: There's more than one way to rob a casino. That aside, a little luck goes a long way when it comes to thievery.

Skills

Tag

  • Guns: At least one combat skill is needed, and this is the most effective ranged, silent, option that can get into casinos.
  • Lockpick: As far as I can tell, there's generally more Lockpick-gated loot than hacking-locked goodies.
  • Sneak: Should be self-explanatory.

Main

  • Barter: Stealing something is only half the job. Someone needs to buy it afterwards too. Also, I have a self-imposed challenge where I can't level Speech higher than Barter, forcing me to get more creative as well as RP.
  • Speech: For talking my way out of a sticky situation, or talking my way into an area.
  • Melee Weapons: A knife just has to do sometimes. Also saves on ammo.
  • Repair: I can't live without Jury Rigging. It's a problem.

Secondary

  • Medicine: Ideally, the thief doesn't even get seen long enough to get shot. However, in the event they do, stimpacks are generally the go-to option, rather than chowing down on a three-course meal and washing it down with centuries-old Sarsaparilla.
  • Unarmed: Melee's preferred, due to the Bowie Knife existing, but this works too. Also I think I broke one-handed melee animations with mods and I don't know how to fix them so I may swap the two around.
  • Science: For hacking and suchlike, when a bobby pin just won't do.

The Others

  • Energy Weapons: Too loud, too flashy.
  • Explosives: On a "going loud" heister build, maybe. In this case, they're a no-go.
  • Survival: May dump a few points in to cook basic meals, but the thief isn't going to be some gunslinging cowpoke more at home by a campfire than in a house.

MAJOR FACTIONS

NCR A whole slew of suckers, waiting to have their caps swiped. The thief may not like them, but they'll stay friendly to keep them sweet - and to keep them looking the other way regarding more minor crimes.
Caesar's Legion While the NCR can be bribed and negotiated with, the Legion is a different beast entirely. Stay in their good graces if possible, but be prepared to ditch them at a moment's notice for a less crucifixion-happy faction - doubly so if playing a female courier.
House While the thief may not see eye-to-eye with him on his politics, the money and (relative) freedom he grants them makes him an attractive prospect to side with. As long as he pays - and pays well - the thief'll carry out his orders. The Mojave's just another job, after all.
Yes Man The thief isn't a politician or an overlord. While ruling the Mojave may sound appealing to some, they'd rather avoid the burden of being responsible for an entire nation.
Brotherhood of Steel A bunch of weirdos and nutjobs, but their tech probably sells for a fair few caps. If the opportunity to infiltrate arrives, consider taking it. Given that Hardin's quests generally don't involve traipsing through dangerous locales, the thief will likely decide to side with him if they do.
Followers of the Apocalypse Naive, but in an endearing sort of way. Besides, it never hurts to have a doctor in your corner that's willing to patch you up for a discount.

Note: for some games from humble I might ask for gift links. There is a rumor 3 years ago that humble bans users due to making gift links only. I make gift links every week, never have any issues. I have no idea why humble would ever ban its customers for using a feature it provides to its custimers.

Here is a guide how to make gift links from support.Humblebundle.com: https://support.humblebundle.com/hc/en-us/articles/202712460-Purchasing-and-Sending-Gifts

I do not believe humble teaches you how to make gift links, so it can ban you, lol

2024.05.31 19:30 Commander_Rou Impressions from the behavior of teammates and opponents and some tips for winning

Good afternoon, friends. With the start of the “Arsenal of Victory” event and the new season of the Battle Pass, I started playing actively again. I play BR V in all nations, and I would like to write a few thoughts, first of all, probably for beginners. Please excuse my English as my native language is Russian.
  1. Please include an engineer in each of your squads and build rally points. Carefully study the statistics after the battle: you will notice HOW FEW players (even on BR III-V!) use engineers to build rallies (not to mention defensive structures). The engineer is not a useless soldier, he can be armed with powerful weapons such as the AVT-40, FG 42 II, or the deadly Type Hei. There aren't many maps in Enlisted, believe me, you'll quickly learn how to set up rally points for deadly flanking moves. 4-5 rally points from different flanks = the key to victory, because they are able to instantly flood an enemy position with 4-5 squads, which is 20-45 fighters.
  2. “God loves big battalions.” Fill your squads completely, even if you have exhausted the limit of specialists, place ordinary infantrymen in the squad. The infantryman is armed with good weapons (AVS-36, M2 Carbine, Type Hei, rifle grenade launchers), and can also throw grenades and lay mines. Every fighter is important. It is easier to capture or hold a point with a larger number of soldiers.
  3. Now something very important about weapons. Playing on BR V, I very often see BR III squads in my and the enemy teams. Moreover, analyzing the battle log, I see that these are not even BR III squads: literally 1-2 soldiers are armed with BR III weapons, while the rest are armed with completely stock (BR I-II) weapons, such as a Springfield or Mosin rifle. I understand how eager you are to use the MP-40 or the early PPSh-41. However, if you equip only one squad with BR III weapons and the rest are armed with BR I-II bolt rifles, you will lead your team to defeat: the Mauser rifle cannot fight against the AS-44. Use the proving ground to test new weapons and patiently accumulate silver. I myself am dissatisfied with how slow silver farming is. It's better to play longer at BR II, honing your shooting and tactical skills. Understand that you will not get any pleasure from the game if you have a bolt rifle and are confronted with an AS-44, Sturmgewehr 44 or the unbearably deadly Type Hei. I strongly advise you to first fully upgrade your new BR III squads using BR II weapons, and only then fully and simultaneously arm the upgraded squads with upgraded BR III weapons. Don't rush to switch to BR III weapons, because the BR V guys will playfully terminate your units. Believe me, as a BR V player with a 3 full upgraded squads of full upgraded 9 Type Hei or 4 AS-44, RD-44 and 2 AVT-40, it does not give me any pleasure to destroy dozens of bolt rifles players. I hope that newcomers will enjoy the game, gradually developing their squads and smoothly moving to BR III, accumulating silver to fully equip them to be able to resist against BR IV-V. I’m really sorry that the game has such a slow silver farming rate; if I were the developers, I would give players a large bonus of silver when moving from rank to rank, especially from BR II to BR III.
  4. Please do not play with squads of radio operators, snipers, mortars and flamethrowers until you have spent at least several hundred of hours in the game. I often see a sniper squad of 3 fighters with bolt rifles (on BR V!!!) who stand in the rear the entire game, do not defend points and cannot hit anyone. Honestly, I don’t recommend that you play snipers until the sniper MKb (H) 42/AVS 36 appears. To play as a radio operator, you must study the maps well and intuitively understand where to artillery strike. I often see a squad of 2 radio operators and 1-2 infantryman standing far behind the battle and firing artillery strikes into the void without participating in the battle. Flamethrowers were recently nerfed; they are a very specific weapon for urban battles. These squads are very slow and difficult to upgrade. Play with large infantry and assault squads, these are universal squads, if you arm them uniformly (for example only BR II), give them first aid kits, an anti-tank fighter and grenades, you will be successful in any battle. A squad of 9 soldiers with BR II rifles (which will not meet with BR IV-V) will be much more useful than a small squad of radio operators unable to hit anything with an artillery strike at BR III-V. What has been said for a squad of radio operators is also true for mortar men. I very rarely see good players in these squads in the game. If you have to use a squad of radio operators to upgrade weapons (such as Type Hei), then you do not need to stand behind the troops throughout the battle and wait for an artillery strike. Feel free to fight like ordinary fighters, die and be reborn again.
  5. I know how slow silver farming is in Enlisted. But this does not mean that soldiers without equipment, upgraded weapons and abilities should be thrown into battle, especially at BR III-V. Use large backpacks for health kits or grenade bags for your assault infantry. Give the soldiers water canteens and shovels, as well as anti-personnel mines.
  6. Once again: include an engineer in EACH of your squads and build rally points! Understand that even if you are a bad shooter, your rally point can bring your team victory. It won't be long before you start finding very good positions for your rally points. The engineer is the most underrated fighter in “Enlisted”. Every battle I write to my teammates to built rally points, but almost no one does this. Believe me, by placing 4-5 rally points on different flanks, you will crush even the defense of skilled players. Also, do not forget to restore your rally points if the enemy has destroyed them. It won’t be long before you learn to place rally points optimally, not far or close to the battle site, in a safe and unexpected place for the enemy.
I apologize for the chaotic and lengthy presentation, but these are my impressions of my comrades and opponents. It pains me to see waves of infantry with bolt rifles charging head-on into positions occupied by soldiers with powerful automatic weapons. Before that, I had only seen this in films by Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov, where Soviet penal soldiers attack German pillboxes with shovel handles instead of weapons. "Enlisted" is a very good tactical game, use engineers and think with your head!

2024.05.31 16:47 BatsquidWasTaken Havent played in a year or so, much has changed as 1.0 has released

Vaguely still have my sea legs but idk the status of weapons as of now, and how certain weapons perform. Also are there still rundown-specific weapons? As to weapon performance, I remember how the DMR, Double Tap, Pistol, Assault Rifle, and SMG perform as far as primaries go, but the rest contain a lot of mysteries for me. Is there a good video or especially a spreadsheet to find out there? Similar situation with the special weapons, I remember the shotgun, sniper, revolver, high cal pistol, and (one of?) the heavy machine guns, but there's a lot that are not familiar.
Been playing through RD1 since I only really hopped into the game on RD4 back in the day, so again idk if maybe there's rundown specific weapons to take into account idk, but none of them seem to be marked as such.
Also apologies if there's another post about this that I haven't seen

2024.05.31 16:36 I3igB Let's Talk Optimal Damage Rotations in The Final Shape

Introduction

There's a couple obvious and not so obvious team damage setups coming out with TFS that we can theory craft on based off of the videos put out by content creators who were invited to play the expansion early. With the day 1 raid quickly approaching, I felt it would be worth making the community aware of them. Before I get started, do note that in a recent interview, Chris Proctor said that he expects those going into the new raid to be surprised if they attempt to follow today's damage meta's with 6x rockets. That said, until the raid is released and we know more, let's continue with the current damage meta.

The Setup

Here's the new elements in play that contribute towards what makes this new damage rotation possible.
Hazardous Propulsion offers a 35% damage boost to all outgoing rocket damage for the Titan who's using it. This also buffs Wolfpack round damage for the Titan who is using it, making them a good candidate for the team's Ghorn user.
Song of Flame gives the entire team radiant, increases their ability uptime, and provides scorch to both Solar and Kinetic weapon damage. The team scorch stacks will build towards ignitions and the increased ability regeneration allows Titans to get their Exodus rockets sent off quick and allow Hunter's to dodge reload more often during damage phases.
Lastly, Still Hunt, the Golden Gun Sniper, works with Celestial Nighthawk for one super charged shot. While it will be effective on non-Hunters, Hunters walk away as the clear winners with this setup.
With all of this in mind, an easy-to-use yet optimal team composition for damage phases looks like this. Keep in mind that this isn't the most optimal damage setup, but it should provide a baseline that can be improved on from there.
With these weapons
The team preparation looks like this
The team rotation goes as such:

Alternative

If Cenotaph isn't needed, the Well Warlock can go with a walking turret build for additional passive damage while providing the Divinity cage by running Bleak Watcher, Helion, and Getaway Artist.
A content creator by the name of Maven showed that running these multiple turrets provided similar passive damage output equal to one person shooting a machine gun. This is a straight upgrade over only Divinity damage.

Conclusion

Will this be the best damage rotation in TFS? Who knows, but this provides a good starting point for this to be optimized further. For example, the Divinity Warlock quickly switching in Lasting Impression rockets, Hunters swapping to Lucky Pants after expending special ammo, and I didn't even consider what would be the optimal Titan super for this setup. That said, what I've shown here is easy enough to explain to LFG teams to get some serious damage numbers going. I hope this has helped and got you thinking about how you can modify it further!

2024.05.31 15:52 Hyena_Utopia To the people who claim the snipers aren't Overpowered

Let's take a look at how snipers are handled in various games.
In Halo Infinite, the sniper rifle spawns in the middle of the map, requiring players to compete for it. It only delivers a one-shot kill if you hit the head.
In PUBG and Apex Legends, snipers are dropped randomly from the sky, forcing players to fight for them and take significant risks to acquire them. Like in Halo Infinite, they only guarantee a one-shot kill with a headshot.
In all other modern shooters, a sniper rifle comparable to the TAC-50 is a mythical GOD gun that players must earn the privilege of wielding. However, in XDefiant, you can... just spawn with it and start deleting people.
Yes, overpowered snipers have been featured in games before, and they can be fun to use. But over time, developers have realized that one-shot snipers are unfair and need to be balanced. This is why they are often nerfed or made into rare weapons. Ubisoft will likely come to the same conclusion with XDefiant. It's not a matter of debate; overpowered snipers will eventually be adjusted for the sake of game balance.

2024.05.31 15:17 anewtablelamp How can I get better at snipers?

Hi everyone!! I am looking for advice on how I can get better at using all of the snipers, the marshall, the outlaw and the operator.
The thing is that I really want to main Chamber and I see in all of the VODs that the players mostly use snipers, and I am particularly bad at them. I believe that I'm decent at rifles for my rank (I play in silver-gold lobbies) and I usually have a HS% >20 in most of my games but whenever I pick up a sniper I feel like I can't hit anything. I even tried using snipers heavily in a few games and it was very tough for me to get kills like that and I ended up bottom fragging with Chamber.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Polani guide her light… please.
My heart hurt as I awoke to the familiar clatter of the window’s auto blinds snapping me to consciousness, rousing me from my sleep as golden twilight rays filled the room, forcing me to follow through. Everything felt tighter, stiffer, more painful as I slowly rose upright, my paws finding and pressing into the tension at the base of my neck, my eyes squeezing shut as I did everything I could to push past the tide of reality falling on my shoulders.
Rensa laid at my side while her occasional muffled beep drifted from her as she was lost in whatever dreams her medicine had brought to her mind this time. She’d cried into my shoulder when she’d broken from them after the accident, wailing about the horrid events and images she’d been forced to endure, or relive, in the nights of her dreams. All I could hope was that her stillness was a good sign that she wasn’t haunted by those horrors again; old, or new.
The heavy weight hanging on my eyelids beckoned me to give in, to turn over and bury myself back into the covers, to hide from the thought of what we’d los-
No. Not yet.
The thought of losing them. The UN hadn’t confirmed anything and wouldn’t for a few more paws - or ever, Stars willing - but Taisa’s silence set ice in my veins. Until then, I had to push forward to help Rensa and to keep Renkel’s spirits up. Even if it meant I’d have an even farther fall.
And if they are gone, they wouldn’t want you to sit and rot away in bed. Keep everything together, gray coat, for them-
A tight, high whimper from my love, my life beside me all but shattered my heart.
And for her.
I leaned over, gently licking Rensa’s cheek before tucking the blankets a little tighter around her and slipping myself free from beneath their enticing embrace. I wasn’t entirely alright; wouldn’t be until I knew, for better or worse. Until then… Until then I’d do everything I could to make them proud.
The wood beneath my paws let out a long, sighing creak as I rose from the bed, pushing myself out into the hall before gently sliding the door closed behind me. This waking, for Renkel at least, would be no different than any other waking he had off from school. Not if I had anything to say about it.
The stairs were silent as I descended, turning into the open living room and staring at the hearth for a long moment, doing my best to keep my attention off of Chris’ empty room and onto the task at hand. I let out a long sigh, flapping my ears to try and batter the thoughts away as I padded into the kitchen. Warm pops and wet hisses of my cooking soon filled the air as I set about making first-meal with a hearty helping of Human vegetables.
Before I knew it the soft click-clack of pup-claws sounded from the stairs as Renkel followed his tongue to find a steaming bowl of scramble waiting for him.
“Good waking, Rekan.” I whistled, doing my best to shear the melancholy from my voice as he clambered up into his seat, clutching one of his Human ‘Animal Encyclopedias’ close to his chest. “How was your rest?”
“Good! I dream’d’d of fishies!” He exclaimed before thumping the book on the table and flicking it open to a page with the dull, speckled flanks of some massive fish that dwarfed the Human swimming next to it. “That one! It’s my favorite!”
A small titter of amusement slipped from my snout at the fickleness of a pup’s interests. “Oh really now? I thought you said the Manta Ray was your favorite!”
“Muh-uh! Whale sharks is way cooler! Look how big it is! And it swims around with its mouth open like the manta but way bigger!” Renkel groaned, tossing his arms as wide as his maw in imitation of the gargantuan fish.
“Well you’ll have to tell me all about them!” I whistled in return, serving myself a steaming bowl of the mix before knocking the heat down to keep it warm for Rensa… whenever she woke up.
“What’s wrong, Papa?” >Alright?< My son asked with his, curious, worried eyes staring up at me past the wisps of steam drifting from his food. “Is Mama ok?”
“She’s… She’s alright, son. Her leg’s hurting her a lot lately. Everything going on has got her real worried, is all.” >Everything Fine.< I answered, my voice sounding far more sure of the words than I felt as I paused for a moment. >Eat Up!<
His attention hung on me for a few moments longer before he let out a happy, satisfied beep and launched into an explanation of everything he found interesting about these ‘Whale Sharks’, only pausing to breathe and stuff whole skewers of vegetables into his mouth. The enthusiasm of a pup never did fail to amaze, and Renkel certainly had enough to go around! Our bowls were soon finished and empty, but Renkel kept going, happily whistling on about how their gills worked and how their coloring was to protect them from predators. Before long the dishes were cleared and in the sink, all except for one.
She needs to eat.
“Tell ya what, Rekan, you find yourself a few more facts and you can teach me even more about them after I give your Mama her first-meal. How’s that sound?”
“More fishie facts!” He exclaimed with glee, his paws in the air as he rocked back in his chair before plunging straight back into his book. My paw slipped beneath his bowl, scooping a fresh serving into it before gently nuzzling the studious pup’s crown on my way to the stairs. His happy whistles faded as I plodded up the old wooden steps, stopping for a moment at the door to mine and Rensa’s room, my paw hovering above the door-slide as I listened for any sign that she’d stirred.
I didn’t hear any.
The door whined as I gently slid the door aside and found her awake, staring at her cupped paws with a vacant expression. Her ears swung in my direction as I stepped in, only for a moment, while I did my best to keep my voice positive as I approached with food in paw. “Good Waking, Sweetheart.”
A small, grumbled ‘Good Waking, Love’ was all she could muster for me as she stared at the black bead cradled in her paw.
So soon?
“Your leg feeling any better?” I whispered as I set the bowl of scramble and glass of water on the bedside before gently taking my place at her side.
“Not really.” She hissed, her voice distant as an unladen paw kneaded at the border of her wool and the leg’s interface plate, squeezing her eyes shut and drawing in a long breath before shaking her head, her tail bobbing a succinct >Not at all.<
“Maybe some food will help.” I whispered, gently trading the bead for her bowl and skewer and setting it on the bedside before softly pressing my snout to her’s.
She was quiet, staring into her food for a long moment, her eyes puffy and orange. >Don’t think so. Gone.<
Tears pooled at the corner of my eyes, burning like firefruit oil as I twined my tail around what little of hers hung over the side of the bed, squeezing tight as I could to ground my wife to what of this world, of our family, we had left. Her paws moved, slowly poking the skewer into the food before raising it to her mouth, and then again and again before the bowl and glass were empty.
“I…” Rensa let out a small sigh, setting the bowl on the old bedside with a loud clunk before her tail squeezed, weakly, back into mine. “Th-Thank you, Love.”
“It’s ok, Sweetheart.” I replied, leaning into her side and soaking in the silence that stifled the space between us. She sucked in a pained gasp as her free paw found its way back to the remains of her leg, clutching the wool tight. “W-Were the meds helping any, last paw?”
>Yes.< Her tail flicked slowly, almost reluctantly as I watched tears gather in the folds of her squinted eyes.
I rose, gently nuzzling her crown with a forlorn mewl before guiding her paw back to mine for a moment, giving it a gentle squeeze. “I’ll be right back.”
I hate to see her like this, more than I hate seeing her drifting a while. At least then she’s not crying from the pain. Not suffering…
I rushed to the bathroom, ripping open the closet and retrieved the damned bottle. A single pill tumbled into my paw, the remainder clacking noisily against the sides as I slipped them back into the box they had been stowed in. The little tan capsule churned my stomach as I looked down at it, horrid memories sprouting in my mind. The memories of the paw of the accident and the herds after it where she was despondent, from the pills and the loss of her career.
If those two are gone…
My tail shuddered, trying to shake the creeping vines of despair free from my heart at the thought before I drew in a deep breath, steeling myself and stepping back into the bedroom. Rensa stared up at me as I approached, her eyes filled with worry as I settled back down on the bed beside her, holding the pill out on my paw. She hesitated, her tail curling as her attention slid from me down to the proffered pill before her eyes squeezed shut and her paw seized as hard as her leg, digging her claws into her pads with a low, pained mewl.
“Please, Sweetheart…” I trailed off, my paw sliding over hers to try and calm her squeezing claws from hurting herself further. I’d seen her draw her own blood far too many times.
A soft gasp sucked into her mouth as she leaned forward, wrapping her paws around me with a stifled cry before accepting the pill and downing it with a sip from her glass. “I-I’m sorry, Love.”
“It’s ok, Sweetheart.” I soothed, pulling her close to me as I ran my paws through her wool, doing my best to drive the sorrow burrowing in my heart away. “It’s ok…”
Her sobs began to fade as the medicine took hold, her arms slackening around me a little before she let out a harrowingly familiar, relieved sigh. “Thhhank you, Taikel…”
I couldn’t bring myself to answer in kind as I pulled her closer, fighting away the tears pooling at the corners of my eyes. Instead I settled on easing her back on the bed before gently nuzzling her snout, receiving a passive mumble of acknowledgement as I stood from the bedside, stopping to stare down at the black bead on the bedside, quietly pawing it before I padded through the door to the upper landing. I paused. Took a breath. And another. Willing myself to stifle the rattle in my throat before I faced my son again. There was little more I could do for her right now; at least the meds might let her sleep for a while longer.
The stairs beneath my paws clicked and creaked between the amazed whistles and beeps of Renkel still at the island meeting my ears; most certainly still enamored with his book. Quietly I found my way to the hearth, doing my best not to alert the pup as I gently opened the Heartwood box Rensa and I had made when we’d married, staring down into the void-black padding at the singular circle of white, Amarek wood at its center.
When we’d made it her father had insisted that, according to tradition, this was where it was meant to be, in the middle of everything else in your life. That the chest that held your darkest days should live with the rest of your joy until it would in turn join the others in the tapestry of your life.
We’d only ever used one since we’d married… I had hoped we wouldn’t need anot-
No. Not until you know.
My ears battered away the despair sprouting in my chest as the bead slipped into place, standing in stark contrast to the brilliant wood encircling it like an eye peering back up at me while the lid slowly closed over it, shielding the burrow from the pain it held. I pulled in a quiet breath before turning, squeezing my eyes shut again to hold back the tears I knew were just one bad assumption, one errant thought, one horrid message away from spilling forth.
The pup whirled around as I stepped behind him, peering over his shoulder to see what new tidbits of information he was foraging for this time. A new picture of the massive fish was spread across the page, this one taken from above the water looking over the side of some vessel staring down at the animal through glimmering, crystal clear waters.
“I wonder if Chris has ever seen a whale shark! That’d be so cool!” Renkel exclaimed, his tail zipping back and forth excitedly as he tapped at the page. “I bet he’s been all over the carry-bean!”
A pang of grief flashed through my heart at the mention of the missing pair, the feeling festering for a long, gut wrenching moment before I whispered to him over his shoulder. “I’ll bet he has, son, and I bet he’ll be happy to tell you all about it when they get back!”
Then if they c- When. WHEN they come home, I’m going to give them both ears so full the stars above will hear everything I’ve got to say.
And then some.

Another paw of sun-scorched hell. Stars, I hope Mama and Papa are alright….
The pad in my paws was still harrowingly silent as I gazed down at the screen, a trail of my own messages dotting their way up the screen had gone unanswered these last two paws. Letting them know that we’d made it out safe, what we’d been doing, when I thought we’d be home…
Polani shook and shuddered as Chris brought her around again, shaking me from my thoughts as we passed over charred, smoldering tracts of forests on the eastern side of the crash site that looked like little more than blasted ashen sticks. It’d been a sleepless night as we rushed to help quench the fire the Glorious Pyre and the Twilight Star’s drives set when they’d crashed. The U.N. had leapt to invoke our contract again, putting us to work shuttling material, equipment and water to put out the inferno that threatened Chris’ home and the surrounding areas. Thankfully they hadn’t sent any Arxur for us to shuttle!
The fact that they were here. That they were helping. That they’d even showed up to Humanity’s defense in the first place was… it was unthinkable!
Every stray glance I was forced to see them, every plodding step they took, every reverberating growl of their horrid language and every time I caught one of them staring at me like I was little more than a cut of meat to hunt, to chase, to toy with… Sent shivers down my spine and out my tail.
I hated it.
Hated them.
Hated what I’d seen them do on the Cradle, what one of them had done to me. What one of them had made Chris do to protect me. Hated what they’d made us have to see, hear, and live through. It didn’t matter what they were here for, it bought no good will of mine. Chris promised to protect me again if we got assigned to moving any of them, that he’d happily put another bullet in one of them before chancing the possibility of losing someone else.
Annabelle.
He, and the rest of his family, were still holding out hope that they’d find her and the rest of her bunker beneath what little was left of what had been the outskirts of London. I wanted to be hopeful with them, to pray and call and beg to every star I could see, every star I could name for her to have been spared but… but the pictures didn’t look good. The scattered rubble that had once been so many Human cities left the bitter taste of bile and sorrow in my mouth as I thought about the millions of lives the federation I’d once believed in had snuffed out in a flash.
The monsters I’d once championed had tried to take everything from Chris, from his Family, from all of us. From Me. They’d stolen parents from their children, shattered families, people, communities and cultures that they’d turned to ash in the wake of their failure. So much gone, so much destroyed, so much lost, so much taken.
Taken.
Because of their fear. Because of their hatred. Because of their cowardice.
Because of their weakness.
“At least the fires are out.” Chris sighed, the long, forlorn sound gently pulling me from the anger simmering in my chest. “Ma, Pa, an’ Ryan’ll be alright, so long’s the Peacekeepers actually do their job with trackin’ down those… stragglers.”
“Let them burn or let them rot for all I care.” I grumbled, staring out the viewscreen down at the devastated countryside below; images of Chris’ family, tears in their eyes as they huddled around their TV looking for any information they could find about Annabelle. “It’s the least they’d wanted to do to us.”
“‘Much as they fuckin’ deserve it…” His voice cracked as a flash of concern passed over his face while he glanced over at me, hesitating for a moment before responding. “Probably for the best we don’t reinforce what everyone the arm over already thinks of us.”
>Fair.<
“‘Specially not the new friends we picked up, doubt the Zurulians would be particularly big fans of Humans doing… that to prisoners.” He sighed, righting Polani from her bank before guiding her nose around, across the horizon, and back towards Blacksburg, the hum of her thrusters building to a mournful, crackling wail as they pushed us onward. “For now though, let's get some food in us; Ma’s bound to have something good.”
My tail twitched at the idea of a belly full of Darlene’s wonderful red beans and rice to try and take my worried mind off of the world of ash and fire smoldering around us as a meek mewl slipped from my mouth. “Thank you, Love.”
I swear to the stars above:
I’ll get even for what they’ve done.
[Advance Transcription by Time Unit: 1.5 Hours]
The comfortingly warm weight of Darlene’s cooking settled in my stomach as I sunk back into the chair, my tail wrapped tight around Chris’ leg. Darlene stared through the window out at the pasture beyond, passively scrubbing grime and grit away from the white pot in her hands as the sound of running water filled the air.
“Where’s Ryan now?” Chris grumbled as he scooped another mouthful of meat, beans and rice from his bowl.
“Out ‘helping’ ‘gain.” Darlene sighed, setting the pot on her drying rack with a ringing clang as she turned to point a wooden spoon at an empty plaque on the wall. “At least Cobb’s gon’ go out with ‘im.”
“Boy went out an’ got hisself hurt on ‘nother planet and now he’s damned well set to go on ‘n get hurt again on this’n.” Michael grunted, anger in his voice as he flicked through article after article on the pad sitting on the counter in front of him. “‘Tween those fire-crazy exterminators and these god-damned lizards I ‘on’t find myself thinkin’ this shit’s hardly a good idea.”
“Pa’, come on, you know how he fe-” Chris started, swallowing his food as he leaned forward over the counter, his response cut short by the ringing chimes sounding out from both of our pads.

Oh Stars.
My blood ran cold as my tail tightened around Chris’ ankle, a small, weak, terrified mewl weeping from my snout at the sight of the final thing on the list.
Arxur Volunteers.
A low growl built at my side as Chris stared down at his pad, his fists tightening around the pad until his knuckles were white with the strain. “Rat fucking bastards.”
>We have to.<
He nodded, his mouth tight with anger as the scrape of his stool sounded across the room while he rose to his feet. His hair tossed about as he shook his head, doing his best to drive off whatever thoughts were raging behind his eyes as he looked over to me, gently slipping his leg free from my tail before he marched to his room, Roscoe’s wagging tail close at his side. The comforting, familiar thump of his boots on hardwood marked his return just as fast as he’d left, the glint of his pistol holstered across his chest and the soft shine of the rifle hanging from his shoulder telling me everything I needed to know.
“Together?”
“Together.”

Fire’s gone. Pain. Gone. Daughter. Taisa. Gone.
My mind swam as I stared at the stars high above the Warren, drifting in a sea of white, black, and gray, feeling little but the chill of the glass of gin resting in my paw alongside the whispering cold of twilight’s winds. The occasional drift of odd colors floated through the air, harvesting my attention from the morass of nothing that had filled this paw and the one before it. Warbling sound filled my ear, vibrating the left side of my vision and sending new waves of kaleidoscopic colors across the sky.
I was hallucinating again. It’d been a while.
Dr. Poreth had told me a long time ago not to mix; it hadn’t stopped me then and it certainly couldn’t stop me now. Besides, they were a far better distraction than anything else I had right now. So instead I sit and stare at the sky, watching the pretty colors.
They were just as real as anything else.
A tide of messages from Taisa had bolted through my pad early this waking, from before the bombing. Each one the last I’d ever hear from her. The last words I’d ever see from my darling daughter. Renkel still didn’t understand, the pup happily chirping away about when they’d be back, about his next paw at school and about going with Taikel to one of the shelters in a claw or so to try and help ‘keep their spirits up’. Through the haze I envied him, wishing and pleading to Polani that I could have that same youthful hope.
Even if it would just be cut down by the scythe of the real world.
The glass in my paws slips away as the wavering rays of the sun are blocked, quickly replaced by another, and a soft nuzzle on my crown. Taikel’s wavering voice floated across my ears, still filled with mournful sorrow. I can’t make out the words but Renkel’s upbeat whistles tell me enough; they’re off to the shelter.
Barely seems worth it with them gone.
I weakly return the nuzzle, barely leaving my chair with my leg feeling like little more than juicefruit pulp as Taikel’s shadow slips past me, Renkel asking something I can’t quite make out past the fog.
So strong, stronger than me.
The rumble of the truck’s engine shuddering to life sends waves of green across my vision, accompanied by the crunch of gravel following after it before it fades into the distant hum of tires on the road. Alone again. The fog falls back in around me, stifling the sounds of nature that had begun to creep in at the edges of my mind. I sink again, staring up at the sky, watching the drifting colors and clouds as I sip at the liquid fire in my glass.
At least it helped smother the fire eating my leg and dull the storm in my mind.
The sound of my pad letting out a painfully familiar chime on the table split the air, stirring me from my stupor to clumsily paw at it to go silent. The offending sound faded, replaced by the isolating silence that I’d craved; at least in it I didn’t have to think about what I’d lost.
About the tricks my mind was playing on me.
A long, deliberate sigh fell from my snout as I pressed my paw into the thready wool near the stump that’d once been my leg, trying to push the pain away as best I could before reaching, once again, for my gin. Before my paw met the star-slicked glass flanks my pad bleated out the same, mocking chime.
A growl built in my throat as I grasped at it, angrily hurling the offending electronic phantom what few tails my numb shoulder could manage.
Another trick of my mind
Another message from Taisa’s ghost.
Another claim that the Arxur were ‘helping’ them.
Another promise of them coming home when they were done.
Another mote of hope sprouted before being ripped from my grasp.
Another paw of despair.
Another river of tears.
Another dose.

2024.05.31 06:52 Individual_Toe3067 I have a 100% success and extraction rate on Helldive with the new mission type, here are some tips if you are struggling.

Honestly this mission type is not hard at all if you simply abuse well established tactics and META (oh no!) that we have available. Here are the bullet points:
MOST IMPORTANTLY
LASTLY
THAT'S IT!
If you'd like to know my exact loadout I run: Incendiary breaker, grenade pistol, stun grenades and medium armor, and stratagems are EMS mortar, Emancipator mech, EATs, and either Gas strike, Eagle Strike, or Orbital laser. If you're a guy that hates strategy or using META, feel free to play how you want but don't expect to be successful without being tactful. I can only tell you this has worked extremely well for me, and this is one of the easier mission types for me when using these tactics. I am a 200+ hour player for whatever that's worth.
Liberty protect you, and good luck spreading Democracy Helldivers! We have a planet to liberate!

2024.05.31 06:47 CMART696969 Spectra Phantom VS Apollo Sayer: nearly two Years Earlier, six months after Mechtanium Surge ends

(For all intents and purposes, this is a flashback, actually the most significant flashback in Apollos life: how Helios came to him, and the absolutely legendary match between Spectra and Helios versus Apollo and Reptak that saw Spectra retire from Brawling and take Apollo on as a protege)
Roster
Spectra: Darkus Infinity Helios, Darkus Blitz Dragonoid, Darkus Gravity Nome Bakunano; Bombaplode, Boomix
Apollo; Pyrus Reptak, Pyrus Black Meta Dragonoid, Pyrus Dual Hydranoid After battle: Darkus Infinity Helios
Clouds filled the sky outside of Alpha City, the Ecumenopolis was buzzing with Brawlers. Today, actually the past 6 days, was the last match of Spectra Phantom. Promising his full endorsement and tutelage, his partner, who had become to butt heads with spectra while he began to pursue the reuse of his father’s work for the good of Vestal, and for the good of Bakugan, Helios only seeked to Battle. Being best friends for twenty years, Professor Keith Fermin had decided it would be best to bestow Helios upon the first brawler that beat him in a brawl, but for the majority of vestals brawlers, that is easier said than done.
“Gus, Is there no one really worthy enough to carry my legacy? I refuse to believe the glaring lack of skill in the past ten thousand people is a reflection of this planet.” Spectra said as he returned Helios to ball form, after beating Ace Grit, his Darkus Knight Percival, his Darkus Meta Dragonoid, and his Darkus Siege with just Darkus Blitz Dragonoid and Infinity Helios only needing to come out to brutally wallop Knight Percival back into ball form using Ruinforce Quasar. “Ha. If you think Ace Grit was someone I would willingly go with Spectra, you don’t know me very well. Percival is a weakling and always will be.” Helios gloated. “I tossed him around like a rag doll on New Vestroia when we faced the resistance. Percival is a puny excuse for a Darkus Bakugan.” Helios hopped excitedly around in Ball form. “Check some of the upcoming names for win records, Gus. Some of these brawlers aren’t even making it ten turns past my weakest Bakugan.”
“Certainly not, Master Spectra. I think we have yet to find a hidden gem, as taking out the wheat and getting to the chaff. We just keep going down the list until we find the one person who can beat you.” the hyper pragmatic Gus Grav said, he sat on a metal folding chair in the center of the stadium, tinkering with his brown case of Bakugan while scrolling on a laptop with power counters connected to it. Since the events of Mag Mel, Gus had upgraded his team of beasts to Subterra Rex Vulcan, Subterra Meta Dragonoid, a new Subterra Hexados, a rare Subterra Elico he found in the Vestroian desert, a mechanical bakugan called Subterra Gran Panzer, and the “MK2”version of Hydrons mechanical Subterra Dryoid open on the table. “Easier said than done, Gus. These guys are really bad.” Rex Vulcan jeered. “Even Baron Leltoy could wipe these guys, and it took that kid pretty much no time to lose just to Gravity Nome with Saint Nemus.” Elico retorted. Gus stared intently at his laptop “This next kid is named Apollo Sayer and is a Pyrus Brawler, Master Spectra. For some reason that name is very familiar to me, do you feel the same way?” Gus asked with an almost worried tone to his voice. “Oddly, yes it does, like a fleeting memory. I can’t put my finger on it.” Spectra said. “Send him in nevertheless.” “Welcome Apollo Sayer.” Spectra said. “Are you ready to battle?” “I am.” A young man, about 5’9 with short, faded brown hair and half frame glasses wearing a red long sleeved solid color flannel, a chain over a white tshirt, black joggers and red black and white sneakers stepped in the room. He had a beat up, hand me down red Pyrus gauntlet and a red clip of Bakugan on his belt. A peculiar looking red Sky Raider sat on his shoulder. “Let’s get this show on the road. This is an honor, but I’ve been waiting and working for a moment like this my entire life.” Apollo said with confidence “Don’t be cocky, kid. You’re the ten thousandth person to walk through this room and nothing about you screams the next Dan Kuso to me.” Spectra said, seemingly unimpressed. “No you don’t understand.” Apollo retorted with passion, as if his honor had just been questioned by Spectra’s lax demeanor. Gus looked up “Interesting”. “My father was Dr. Malcolm Sayer. He knew and worked with your father Clay Fermin as a scientist and strategist for the late King Zenoheld. They were brothers, devoted to the field of science and shared views in absolutely everything. He was just like the King and the lot of the Vexos, and believed that Bakugan were tools that had no purpose elsewhere. This did not sit well with my Brother Jake, who was emboldened by Mira Fermin’s speeches about talking, sentient Bakugan. Then, a little before the BT systems completion, my fathers life changed. Jake and him had fought over politics and I hid in my room. But he heard my brothers guardian Bakugan, a Pyrus Reptak, consoling him in his room about the fight, calling him a “good dad who means well in the end” just after him and Clay finished the design for the Bakugan Termination System. He broke down and cried, appalled and disgusted by what he had done, and vowed to stop the Kings genocidal destruction of the Bakugan, so he asked my brother to contact Mira Fermin with information. Jacob, a childhood friend of Ace Grit, was already against Zenoheld fighting for the Resistance and I was a stay at home good schoolkid that played sports who had posters of the Vexos all over my room, but you in particular. You were my idol. Helios was the coolest bakugan to ever stand on a Gate Card to me, I had played with kids from school as a Ventus Brawler. I got my hands on a Ventus Dragonoid, a Ventus Gargonoid, Ventus Stinglash, and Ventus Spin Ravenoid, lost them all to the Doom cards though. But when the Vexos came around, I immediately changed to Pyrus when I heard about the great Viper Helios. I bought a Pyrus Dragonoid, a Pyrus Dual Hydranoid, a Pyrus Abis Omega, and a Pyrus Hammer Gorem and tried to brawl but could never get my act together to qualify to fight, and I really envied my brother, who was a stellar brawler with a cool talking Reptak. So I stuck to watching Jacob, but you we’re still more entertaining. When you exposed the king for his acts, there was nothing you could have done to ever change my mind that you, not the overrated pompous foreign baby that was Dan Kuso, his brawlers and his perfect Cross Dragonoid, was the greatest brawler to ever pick up a gauntlet. So when my dad said that we would be going to Clays apartment to have dinner with his family, I was stoked, but you weren’t there and I immediately wished I was back home playing video games with my friends. But when I saw your room, I went in to rummage in your old stuff. I looked around at your stuff, found your lot of old Earth Baseball Cards, a squeezed “Juice in a box” box, and a large bin of Bakugan won in battle. But then I saw your old guardian, a Pyrus hyper dragonoid, sitting in your desk drawer with an old launcher, and I couldnt help but take it for myself. As I messed your old room up, downstairs my dad was slowly losing his patience with Clay and I could hear yelling about him quitting his job over the BT System, not wanting to be a part of Genocide or anyone associated with it. He was so furious with Clay allowing and assisting the king to do this act that he sabotaged the machine to the point where it would not work for Zenoheld when needed. So when my father was actually innocent, Clay, who was already going insane, immediately blamed his old lab partner Malcolm when the Ancient Warriors gave up their energies to the six fighting Bakugan, while I was blissfully bragging to all the kids at school that you gave me your old childhood guardian after my dad met your dad. But to make matters worse, Hydron caught him downloading the plans, and everyone soon figured out he had been enlisted by Mira Fermin to act as a spy in the Regime. He was caught way too early and Hydron unleashed the day old Dryoid on him, and had my father and mother captured and imprisoned, and a 10,000,000 credit bounty put on me and my brothers head. I was a boy of 14 and I had no idea what to do, I hid in my school basement for weeks, and ran around the streets of Gamma City eating scraps like a rat, but I had your Hyper Dragonoid to keep me company. Clay felt so betrayed by my father that he begged the King to make the first “test” of Farbros and the Assail System public: executing my parents in the center of Gamma City, and forcing the entire population to watch as he commanded Farbros to obliterate them into atoms using Meteor Driver. There was nothing left when he stopped firing, and I could not cry because I was so angry with what I had just seen. But my brother was there too. Jake was never a good shot, but he fired on Professor Clay with a sniper rifle. The bolt barely missed his heart, and went clean through, only a wound was left. Clay recovered and was furious. He vowed to find me and my brother and do the same to us that he did to my parents. The bounty was raised, and when Jake found me after a few weeks I looked years older than I actually was, but Hyper Dragonoid was still in my pocket. He took me to New Vestroia and we hid in the Headquarters of the resistance. I trained your Hyper Dragonoid for months until he evolved into a Battle-Ready, uniquely colored Black Meta Dragonoid during battle. I met a girl, Naomi of Beta City, with a rare Aquos Storm Skyress. We got close, and developed feelings for one another. But as everything became perfect, the peace was shattered. Hydron found the base, and he and Dryoid, Lync Volan and Aluze, Volt Luster and Boriates, Shadow Prove Hades and Mac Spider, and Mylene Farrow and Macubass along with 15 Gunships full of Zenohelds men laid waste to the camp and killed everyone they could with their mechanical Bakugan. When I saw Naomis Aquos Storm Skyress fall out of the sky, I was enraged and tried to fight Mylene’s Macubass and Hydrons Dryoid two on one like a fool, but my brother saved my life with Reptak, who’s sky raider genes put him higher than both beasts. I battled Macubass and held my own with Black Meta Dragonoid, but Mylene became distracted and opened fire on us with Tsunami Hydrair, leaving the scene. But I looked over, as I was looking for Naomi and saw Reptak and Dryoid, Jake and Hydron were engaged in a brutal brawl to the death. It was the most savage display of power I had ever seen. As the Northern half of the resistance crumbled around my brother, him and Reptak fought valiantly against the Prince, nearly destroying Dryoid multiple times. But the unstoppable force that was Dryoid came out on top and used Retsu-Lightning to stab Reptak directly through the armor, seemingly mortally wounding him. Hydron then used a death ball to draw my brother into the void, but he did something else to seal Jacob’s fate: Dryoid fired Murasame Arrow into the death ball, killing my brother and sending his body into some backwater dimension. I was in disbelief and collapsed out of shock as a blast from Boriates shot me into a wall. I woke up with a concussion and the carnage was over, everyone was dead or captured, and I had officially lost everything. My brother died in front of me. I was a lone wolf with nothing left. But the site of the death ball had left a trace of my family: Reptak. He was in ball form, and I picked him up and left everything behind. The last remnant of my old life. We trained in the wilderness healing from the trauma we had experienced. We participated in the final fight against the BT and moved to Beta City when Helix Dragonoid saved the Bakugan. Then, I participated in the fight against the Alternative itself, and peace was brought to Vestal. Then you came back and started Vestal Interspace with that Brawler Marucho from earth and the Gundalian Ren, me and Reptak were thrilled. I felt alive when I was battling and I had gotten really good, we won the silver league multiple times but I never once faced you, because you vanished for a year, but I waited. Battling you was my goal. I beat Baron Leltoy three times, and beat Ace Grit to win the interspace title the month before Mag Mel came around. And when you came back as a Darkus brawler to fight Mag Mel and went to Earth, I was thrilled beyond belief. Now, here I sit. I’ve been your shadow for my entire life Spectra, I felt connected to that offer. I am not battling you to waste the potential of Helios, for Glory, or for anything else. I am battling you to become something I know I was meant to be: The Best. And I can do that only under your tutelage. Gauntlet Power Strike!”
The Battle “Gate Card Set! Bakugan Brawl! Baku Sky Raider Jump! Let’s go Pyrus Reptak! It’s time to take our crown!” Reptak descended onto the Gate Card in a meteoric torrent of fire “Let’s do it Boss!” Spectra put his mask on as he smiled and chuckled with excitement. “You have a different fire inside you, Apollo Sayer of Gamma City. Our pasts may have been barely linked by the errors of our fathers, but I sense your future will be as bright as ever. Do not disappoint me. Show me your power! Bakugan Brawl! Bakugan Stand! Come Forth, one last time, Darkus Infinity Helios!” Helios roared in triumph and landed onto the Gate Card: “My Power is Unmatched!” He gloated. “Ability Activate! Mighty Meteor!” Reptak’s fists opened and shot a volley of solid gigantic fireballs at Helios, slamming him back. “Stay down, Helios! Let’s counter fast, boss. Give me an order!” “Helios, Battle Warrior!” “Vulcan, this may be the one!” Gus said excitedly. “Helios has never been slammed back like that by any of these boring contestants we’ve seen, I agree Gus. There’s something about him.” Rex Vulcan said. “Tied Boss, it’s time to make a move!” Reptak said. “Right. Crimson Grappler!” Reptak’s Fists turned red, and he shot forward at Helios with a volley of punches, the dragon roared in pain. “Spectra let me get this jumping insect under control! Give me Bombaplode!” “With Pleasure Helios. Bakunano Bombaplode, Destroy!” Bombaplode formed five large barrels over Helios’ back. “Now, Ability Activate! Bolting Breaker!” Helios began to charge the cannons, but it would not work. “What trickery is this Reptak?” He angrily growled “This is the ability card Cheat Commissioner, Helios.” Apollo laughed as Spectra was now visibly frustrated by Reptak. “Your Bakunano is now rendered useless for the rest of this battle, and you can’t play support pieces for the rest of the match. This is now a show of Raw power only!” Apollo said triumphantly. “Now, Double Ability Activate! Flame Harvey Cannon plus Spar Hook!” Reptak’s back cannon moved to his shoulder and fired a high explosive torrent of fire, slamming Helios back into the ground. “Suck Laser!” He said Then, both of his shield arms opened and Reptak fired laser covered chains into the Dragons back, Helios yelled in pain as he crashed into the stadium seats, burning him for 800 Gs total. The smoke settled, and a male AI voice began to speak as a Purple Mechtogan shield radiated over Helios broken body Initiating FARBAS Infinity Protocol. Nullification Shield active. Damage from Crimson Grappler, 30 Percent. Healed Damage from Flame Harvey Cannon, Critical, healed Damage from Spar Hook, healed 10 Percent Copying five abilities, copying complete. Raising Base Power Level. FARBAS complete, Welcome Back Helios. “You’ll choke for that, Reptak!” Helios growled. “Did you really think it would be that easy, boy?” Spectra angrily laughed. “FARBAS infinity is the most powerful of its kind! Now Helios! Triple ability activate! Frenzy Blaster Plus Ragnarok Buster plus Clamor Quasar!” The turbine on Helios back open fired and peppered Reptak with a volley of purple energy bolts. “Argh! Boss Im hit he’s tough!” Reptak said in paid. “Stay Down you insect, Choke on this!” Helios gloated as he charged a ball of electrifying purple energy and shot a torrent of Darkus power directly into Reptak, sending him flying through the stands. Helios then opened his chest and fired a gigantic blast of energy at the already down Reptak, but he was still standing. The arena was now visibly destroyed, but Apollos Gauntlet was glowing. “Now Reptak! Shield Flare!” He said as a flaming aura absorbed the blast worth his entire Base power level and slowly lifted his G-Power up again, past Helios into near 3000 levels. “Take that on for size, you overgrown armored talking chicken! Now Sit Down Helios! Magnum Reliever!” Reptak said in passionate anger. Reptak’s arm shield began to encircle his fist and pulse with fire. He launched his fist, Gus Stood up in excitement as Helios was launched back into the air and into the stands, punching a giant hole into the building, Reptak’s fist returned to him, he was now at obscene levels of power. “Magnum Reliever prevents you from countering my abilities, time enough to make a significant counterattack!” Apollo said. “Now, Ultimate Ability Activate! Nova Kaiser!” Reptak glowed red with power and released a wave of energy from his fists that was so powerful it knocked over Vulcan in ball form. “What was that?” Gus exclaimed. “Gus, look on your gauntlet, he’s at 7500 Gs! That’s more than Assail Farbros!”. Vulcan exclaimed. “How is that possible??” Gus exclaimed, glued to the match at hand. “So much power!” Reptak yelled as the nigh-uncontrollable wave of energy radiated from his body. Spectra got up and held his gauntlet up. “Time to play hard ball. Bakunano Bombaplode Destroy! Fusion Ability Activate! Mauser Impact!” Helios’ chest barrel opened, and a Bombaplodes cannon array appeared from his back. “Did you miss this, Sayer?” Spectra laughed as the guns charged.“Choke on THIS!” Helios roared as all cannons fired into the energy pulse, shooting Reptak back. “They’re at barely even levels Vulcan, Sayers Gate Card is still in play, and Helios now has Bombaplode. Master Spectra has fought valiantly but this kid is a prodigy, I’ve never seen anything like this before, only Dan Kuso has been this effective in taking him down. Reptak has completely thrown a wrench into Master Spectra’s support piece based strategy and Sayer has exploited all weaknesses brilliantly.” Gus said, him and Vulcan completely invested into the match. Reptak was reeling from the attack, Helios had Precipice Blades active, getting ready to finish him. “Sayer, you will not beat me, but you will go out like a king! Infinity Helios is too powerful, will you make a last stand?!” “Time to find out! Consecutive Ability Activate! Flame Harvey Cannon-Impact Torrent, plus Fusion Ability Blitz Gladiator, Plus Exploding Turbulence!” Reptak’s back mounted cannon split into two as he shot a volley of red laser shots and a torrent of fire, shooting Helios into the air and deactivating Bombaplode. Then, his body glowed red with energy and began to crackle with electricity as he pulled Helios closer to him and released a loud, triumphant yell, erupting in flames shooting the black dragon into the ground even further. Gus flipped the table he was at and held his hands to his hair. “He did it!” Vulcan laughed. Helios returned to Ball Form, and spectra dropped to his knees, defeated. But Apollo held his hand out, and pulled the legend to his feet. “Just like that my career ends, I’m blown away.” Spectra said. “No, it doesn’t. It begins again as a teacher. Thank you for the battle, Keith. Now teach me everything you know.” Apollo said. “With pleasure, and I believe this is yours now.” Keith turned around, mask in hand, along with a case. It held Bombaplode, Twin Destructor, Zukanator, Blasterate, Metalfencer, a calling beacon for Slynix, a red pyrus Gauntlet, and many others. But it was missing one circular piece. “Helios?” Spectra said. His partner was hovering above the grass, sitting in ball form. “Does this change anything, Spectra” he solemnly asked his partner. “You’ve been my partner for the better part of twenty years. I can’t just willingly let you go without me, or go with someone I don’t know or want to battle with necessarily. I know you did this to find a partner for me and I respect you for that but now that the day is here, I don’t know if I can do it.” Helios was shaken to his core. “Neither did I. We have been through so many fires, my friend. I will always be grateful for you, and I will still use my research to upgrade you into the fiercest Bakugan to ever live. Apollo is a worthy student, a one of a kind battler, and is more deserving of you as a partner than anyone in this universe. Your adventures with him are just beginning.” “Take care of yourself, Keith Fermin. Thank you for everything.” Helios said. “You as well, partner.” Spectra was visibly shaken, drying what Apollo thought was a tear as he closed his iconic partner into ball form. “I believe this is also yours, take great care of him. I will be in touch, Apollo Sayer. We will take Vestal by storm.” Spectra said as the Vestal Destroyer appeared over the wrecked stadium, beaming him back into his ship. Apollo laid down in the charred grass, in complete disbelief that he had beaten the legendary Spectra Phantom. “Reptak, Helios, this chapter has closed. It’s time to reinvent ourselves.” Apollo said as he watched the ship go into the stars.

2024.05.31 06:05 zeeloo99 Yakuza: Dead Souls Review/Summary

If you want to read my previous Yakuza game reviews you can read Kiwami 1, Kiwami 2, Yakuza 3 (Remastered), Yakuza 4 (Remastered) and Yakuza 5 (Remastered)
I’m in the middle of playing Yakuza 0, but wanted to take a little break and try out the infamous Yakuza: Dead Souls when a dear friend of mine offered to bring his PS3 over so we can play a PS3 store version of the game.
My friend and I absolutely blasted our way through this game, the campaign taking us about 9 hours to complete with one break in between. We didn’t really partake in any side content or explore much as we were desperate to reach the end in our limited time frame. If anyone else has played Dead Souls and can reccomend any substories or things we missed by purely focusing on the campaign that would be great! I’m already curious about a series of Date substories and whatever substory includes Daigo doing drag?
Per usual with my reviews I may seem overly praising or overly critical, who knows, but either way if you can be nice to me in the comments when you tell me how stupid I am that would be great! Also please no spoilers for other games! I’d love to hear other peoples thoughts tho!
This game is structured pretty similarly to Y4 and Y5 so I’ll split up some thoughts and summary by section.
Plot:
Part 1: Akiyama
We actually start off in Okinawa with Kiryu receiving a phone call about Haruka being kidnapped in Kamurocho so he needs to head down there stat. But I want to start off by saying I was so happy to see my beautiful Morning Glory orphanage on my favorite beach, looking just like it did in Y3 really made me nostalgic, except wait! This is the ? Sunshine Orphanage? I guess in earlier translations of the game they went with a different name for the orphanage, maybe because of the unfortunate connotation the term Morning Glory has in English, or maybe they ended up changing it in later games because Sunshine felt too similar to Sunflower? I really dont know.
But we cut to Akiyama and Hana! And she isn’t deflated :) which is the way god intended. Akiyama and Hana are actually right in the middle of the outbreak as we see a zombie fall out of a building onto Theater Square. We do see how this happened with a very suspicious scrawny zombie being the culprit of it spreading but I’ll talk more about him later. We get a gun soon after and Akiyama be shooting zombies. He rightfully is a little shook about the fact that he just murdered three people but him and Hana go back to the office and sleep there over night. When they wakeup the outbreak is fully spread everywhere and Hana is feeling very sick. Thankfully she just has the flu, but Akiyama leaves to go find a doctor for her and we get alot of him running back and forth from the safe zones and the quarantine zones, he makes a friend along the way named Nagahama but hes so uninteresting that I wont expand upon that.
Eventually, after many trials and tribulations we reunite with Hana and give her some medicine. Can I just say the romantic tension between Hana and Akiayama here is INSANE. Because we know that Hana is actually the strongest Yakuza character of all time, they had to make her sick in order to not make the game end in 5 seconds because of her sheer force of power.
It ends with a boss fight with LITERALLY a licker from resident evil but with a lame ass forgettable name. I really loved the monster (cuz it was very familiar) and I liked the fight to a degree, I think this fight went on way too long, if it had maybe one and a half health bars it wouldve felt perfect but instead it had like 5 of them so it went forever and all tension was gone by the time you defeated it.
From here we cut to our next character!
Majima:
Probably one of if not the best part of the game is the beginning of the Majima section. Here, he is seen watching a zombie movie and having the absolute time of his life only for REAL zombies to show up. As you can imagine he doesn't take it very seriously and is just having a ball of fun the whole time. You go stock up on materials, leave the Millenium Tower and fight a short and sweet boss battle with Ben Grimm from the Fantastic Four. THEN you go to the grand opening of Kamurocho Hills because zombies have crashed it.
On your way there we actually meet Nikaido who is kind of our big bad of the game. He’s an acceptable villain, but I can't get over how poorly rendered his hair is in the version I played on the PS3! His hair looked like it was etch-a-sketch’d on! This is the guy who has kidnapped Haruka and is causing the apocalypse. It’s a quick interaction before you continue on and get to Kamurocho hills.
There you shoot your way in, and into the area where survivors are and!!! DAIGO IS HERE! Yay. Daigo is actually our partner for this part of the story and I really enjoyed it, I wish I got to hang out with my boy Daigo more in games. We also meet a little girl who is really nice to Majima and clearly looks up to him but he seems SO uncomfortable it’s hilarious. At some point Majima get’s bitten and cue my tears, but he acts like nothings wrong soooo. Anyways we depart from all of them to go hang out with Akiyama in the batting center. We hear Goda is around town as well.
A Majima and Akiyama team up is exactly what I didn’t know I needed. These two are probably my favorite Yakuza boys so it was really cathartic having them shoot a giant ass spider together. Speaking of the Spider boss was very cool and well designed, I think once again the battle went on a little too long but I liked this fight more then the Licker fight. Goda shows up and we all giggle and gaff together for a bit. Akiyama is the funny awkward third wheel here who just wants to be included and I love it and I love all of them.
The Majima section felt too short, but maybe thats because I was having way too much fun.
Goda:
We see Goda get bitten the arm around here and it’s pretty cool cuz its a ROBOT ARM yeah Goda for some reason has a big ole metal arm like Long John Silver from Treasure Planet, it’s even MORE similar because it can also turn into a gun. We find out that after Kiryu defeated Goda but in this case he survived and lost his arm. Why? We never find out. But the reason why Nikaido is so pissed off is because his mentor lost so badly to Kiryu. Goda is invited to join with Majima and Akiyama, but instead of the game giving us what we want Goda says he “works alone.”
From here we get to the worst part of the game, basically the rest of Goda’s section (except for one part later). It’s just way long drawn out levels of shooting way too many zombies and not having enough bullets for your gun arm. After this you spend awhile…helping people? Out of all the characters, none of them really do fetch quests for people or NPC guarding, yet this is a lot of what Goda does. Which is weird considering he JUST said he works alone, then he immediately spends the next hour hanging out with people we dont know. They could have easily just cut that line and it wouldn’t have felt so weird but they didn’t.
You also have to do this dreadful forklifting mission. And when I say dreadful I mean it! It switches POV’s and the controls are not very responsive, and like everything else goes on way too long.
Skip ahead after alot of terrible long drawn out constant shooting (I know thats the whole game but it’s really at it’s worst here) we do a boss battle with Goda’s former sushi making sensei. We had seen this character in a flashback before and this was easily the most emotionally resonant part of the game! I nearly cried during it and it was a very beautiful scene for Goda. Now I’ll never look at an octopus the same. If you play the game for any reason, make this fight and this moment one of them.
I had hoped they’d end his section with that but instead we get the most annoying bossfight ever where I have to kill a big Ben Grimm AND two invisible lickers. It was the worst but it’s finally over.
I wish Goda’s section was better, I really love his character and was excited to get to play as him and experience him as an antihero figure. The issue is they made the section’s gameplay parts go way too long, I wish they added more cutscenes here or even just made the scenes we had longer. The ones we get last maybe three seconds at a time until the emotional part in Chapter 3. That being said I still cherish getting to play as him, I’ll always wish I got to see more of him after the second game.
Kiryu:
Lastly we’ve got Kiryu’s part, and I think it’s probably the weakest (plotwise, gameplay wise it’s second worse). It’s honestly quite thin plot wise (tho I suppose all of them are), He shows up to Kamurocho, punches zombies, gets a gun, teams up with lady soldier, kills Akiyama’s partner from earlier on (clap if you care), goes to Kamurocho Hills, poignant moment with Majima that makes me wanna cri, florist time, fight manbat, its over.
Main issues here are the same with Goda, add more cutscenes that are a bit longer then 3 seconds so we can have a bit less 30 minute straight shooting ranges. Yes Akiyama’s partner died but he was so underdeveloped it really didn’t matter, it could have been way more emotional had they developed him more but it simply wasn’t. Majima reveals he has been bitten and it is very sad for me cuz I love him and Kiryu :(. The florist stuff felt a little unnecessary but i’d say it always does past Y2. The manbat fight was a little boring, you get a sniper rifle but it wasnt all that fun to use. The monster design like usual is really quite cool tho! The lady soldier is kinda underdeveloped too but I like her banter with Akiyama and Kiryu enough that I’d say out of the newer characters she’s a better one.
Also at some point Majima decides he’s gonna go “sweat out” the infection in a sauna and I find that hilarious.
Finale
We’ve finally made it. Unlike with other Yakuza games that make the finale feel like a proper team up of everyone else, it’s really just Kiryu part 2. You only play as him the whole time and you barely see Majima or Akiyama for the duration of it. You do have Goda as a partner but that’s all. The finale basically consists of you storming the millennium tower and do about three boss battles within it. Your first of the three is with the patient 0 of dead souls.
You guys aren’t going to believe who this is, I literally couldn’t believe they did this to me not once but twice. You guys remember that guy in Yakuza 1 who VERY BRIEFLY fights you in the bar Ares? Then for some reason makes a comeback in Yakuza 2 that makes you go who the fuck is that? And finally a flashback showing you who someone is actually helpful for once because seriously who the fuck is this guy? And then you do a weirdly hard boss battle with him in the transformer room of the millennium tower and think “that was weird that of all the people they bring back it’s THAT guy.” Well guess what. They did it again. Patient 0 is none other then Hayashi, everyone’s favorite most ICONIC Yakuza villain. I cant even begin to express my feelings when this was revealed, I was simultaneously really mad that something so stupid was happening but also thought it was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. I’ve settled on the later, that is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
Anyways the fight was kinda fun, he is dead now, boohoo. The person who’s behind it all is actually David Bowie, that ginger scientist that has been around the whole time. We go up to the near top and David Bowie injects Nikaido with the virus and he becomes probably the coolest boss. My friend noted that it’s reminiscent of the Witches of Eastwick from Bloodborne (apparently a bad boss fight but like cool conceptually?) It was a reasonable challenge and pretty cool. Unfortunately it doesnt end there, because they Oogie Boogie (Kingdom Hearts anyone?) the poor guy and he becomes a big monster you have to throw stuff at. It’s not very fun, its just really long and too easy. BUT THEN IT'S OVER. And we get one of my favorite endings to a Yakuza game ever.
David Bowie escapes by climbing on to a rope ladder attached to a helicopter and begins to make his escape, except! The rope ladder is actually EXTREMELY long! So long that I like to imagine the culprit sowing several rope ladders together for this plan to work. He is slowly lowered into the horde of zombies at the bottom and dies. But WHO is driving the helicopter? AKIYAMA EVERYONE! Akiyama is officially a murderer, he literally lowered David Bowie into a pit of zombies with a smile of impish glee! It was wonderful. And also Haruka is fine dont worry.
The game officially ends with the sauna Majima is in blowing up because it was too damn hot for too long in there. He’s fine however, and it is revealed he simply had allergies the whole and the zombie who bit him had dentures! All is well.
Final thoughts on the plot: Basically I really like this silly over the top zombie story. I think had there been longer or more cutscenes, and less long stretches of tedious gameplay, it couldve worked better. Typically im more preferential to a grounded survival “every bullet counts” type of zombie story, but this game shouldve leaned more into the opposite effect, go full goof and camp! Akiyama and Majima’s sections are the best obviously, but Goda’s had a few moments and Kiryu’s was probably the weakest but considering the finale is just his part expanded, he also has several good moments. I wish they would remaster this game for newer consoles, fix Nikaido’s terrible hair, and just iron out some performance issues. I wish they had brought more characters back for this silly zombie game. It’s quite literally the perfect excuse to bring back past characters (even if theyre dead!) which they did with Goda but I wish it was more from a zombie lens. As in he’s a sentient zombie unlike several other past yakuza villains who arent. Lord knows having literally anyone other then Hayashi would be cool to bring back. And while I am glad Majima wasn’t a zombie, I wish they committed to zombifying someone we care about. It doesnt have to be serious, maybe they get cured in the end or have a Shawn of the Dead esc ending for them. I dont even care who but only zombifying people we dont care much about felt a little lame. I’d have loved if the finale also focused on everyone else more, I wanna see Hana again! Overall It’s probably the objectively worst Yakuza game. However, I still love it and it’s mine. I’ll recommend it to everyone till the day I die (with plenty of warnings)
Gameplay:
Before I depart I want to discuss the gameplay, as each character has distinct weapons and what not. I also want to touch on the enemy types!
So Akiyama somehow has the most OP weapons, dual wielding pistols that you dont even have to try to aim for and have infinite bullets. Theyre maybe a little too easy but theyre SO fun so I wont complain.
Majima has a big shot gun, you have to try on slightly more then with Akiyama but its still plenty of fun!
Goda’s SHOULD be the most fun but they made the weirdest choice ever and gave him a pistol with unlimited bullets…but made his arm gun have limited ammo. And his pistol absolutely sucks so you better horde your arm gun ammo.
Kiryu oddly doesnt get a weapon till the end of his part, you get a sniper rifle and like a gun that blows things up idk what its called. Both are fun enough. But the issue with the rifle and also with ANY aiming in this game is the way they did it. They made it so that when you aim the zoom in will happen wherever the character is facing NOT where the camera is facing. Which I know makes sense logically and I get it but like its SO annoying and really hard to aim at things when you need to on the fly. This was probably my least favorite thing about the game and the bane of my existence.
Heat moves work weirdly here, I dont even know how to explain why. But all ill say is it usually was either given a time window of way too long or way too short. I hope if it’s ever ported (which it wont be but a girl can dream) they improve the heat move stuff.
Lastly the enemy types. I mostly wanted to talk about the unique enemies, they took a dead island approach and had fun gimmicky zombies like a screeching zombie that attracts zombies to appear (this is a good one) or monkey boy who I fucking hate that just jumps and dodges alot. They also have Ruvik from the Evil Within? Or I guess The Evil Within has an Aggro zombie from deadsouls as their main antagonist because the resemblance is uncanny and the Evil Within actually came out later! There are also Diptera’s which remind me of the police officer guy from Siren cuz theyre both weird fly zombie things.
All of those enemy types are pretty solid and offer a good challenge (except monkey boy who I just hate) but the larger enemies, the ones you think would be harder, are wayyyyy too easy. Take meatheads, the main big boy zombie you’ll be seeing. He dies with maybe 5 shots to the head, or, and i'm dead serious, ONE TAP FROM A MOTORCYCLE. It’s hilarious how quickly they crumble down but if a monkey boy comes around? Im actually dreading it.
Other big enemies include hermits, who are kinda fun. You gotta crack their shell or whatever. And Fattie’s who arent that big but kind of explode when they die. They might do a litttle bit of damage but I think it would be interesting if they took a rotfiend from the Witcher approach and made them actually give quite a bit of damage when they explode, encouraging more distant attacks.
All the other enemies are boss battles which I basically already touched on. I guess if I chose one my favorite boss is the octopus man (id like it more if it worked better but thats neither here nor there) or Nikaido part one. Best enemy type is meathead cuz its funny that they literally disappear if you tap them with a bike. Visually I like anything bug inspired. If there’s any other fans out there what were your favorite enemies or bosses?
That concludes my way too long dead souls review/summary! I really enjoyed the game and someday I plan to go back and do side stuff. I definitely loved Kiryu and Majima doing karaoke together :).
Overall it’s a mess but its my mess and such a fun idea! I wish theyd do this with other genre’s, Yakuza but make it…historical! Oh wait that’s already a thing and it’s called Isshin. I declare next we should do Yakuza: IN SPACE!
5/10

2024.05.31 04:57 CommercialAffect8141 How to make a strong rifleman build

Please don't be to hard on me I have played fallout 3, 4, and New Vegas but 76 has been a bit of a learning curve for me. I'm approaching level 40 and have 22 points to spend I've held onto them because I realized I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to making a successful build. I primarily use sniper rifles to eliminate as money mobs as I can before entering an area then try to use rifles and the occasional pistol to eliminate the mobs I encounter at a closer range. So how do I best use my peel points and what cards should I use to make a strong rifleman build?

2024.05.31 04:15 Lowe_262 Palace Athene: A huge support with huge damage potential

Hi there people! I've been kind of busy but I wanted to talk about some supports that see less use but have interesting kits. I've also been using some of these in rated to see if they get a buff. Some perform better than others, and the Palace Athene is actually pretty good. I dropped from A+ to A a couple of times doing this, but someone needs to take it for the team, so here I am. Don't blame me, blame the method they use to balance the game.
A few DISCLAIMERS:

General Information

The stats are pretty good for a support. It has pretty good defenses, which are somewhat offset by the size of this absolute unit. It's mostly balanced towards ranged strength and has decent mobility for a support. I think it's important to mention the "for a support" part because we need to compare it with what makes sense. Supports naturally have lower mobility so this one is on the average side of things.
It's a native 550 cost with up to a Lv4 at 700 cost. I mostly played at 600 cost and it felt pretty solid, though supports rely on teammates more than other types.
This is a unit that focuses on damage and frontline support. It does have ways to stagger, but it's not ment to chain stagger. It also doesn't have the range to snipe, though it has something special to deal with snipers. Essentially, it packs the weaponry that other MS can't carry to the battlefield to deal big damage at the cost of being more vulnerable. It was ment to support The-O and the Bolinoak Sammahn, so you can see the difference. It's a suit with a similar job as the FAZZ, but I feel it's more reliable in terms of damage.
Just a quick reminder that being a frontline support is different than being the frontline. Being the frontline is a general's job, you stay behind them.

Weapons

Now to the good stuff. This thing has all the weapons you would ever want... kind of. I made a comparison with the FAZZ earlier and it will definetely happen again. So, to the weapons.
Main Beam Rifle is a monster, and to show it, I'll compare to another monster, the FAZZ beam rifle. The FAZZ beam rifle is the "we have a Beam Magnum at home" weapon. At 600 it has two beams that deal 1.4K damage at base, for a total base damage of 2.8K (It's 1.7K per beam for a total of 3.4K at 700 cost). It's a monster of a rifle with a 65% heat rate for an uncharged shot. The charge gives it piercing and a stagger, but it doesn't change the damage too much. The Palace Athene beam rifle is similar. When uncharged, it shoots 4 shots that deal 700 base damage at 600 cost, while dealing the full damage and a bit more on a single shot when charged (it has 2 beams).
I was able to hit an Atlas Gundam for more than 1K damage per shot using the the uncharged rifle, meaning it can deal around 4K damage uncharged and only costing 48% heat rate (12% per shot). You can deal 8K damage quickly on a toppled enemy for example without worrying about staggering your allies and not even overheat the rifle! not sold yet? Ok.
The charged beam was hitting for around 5K damage to some generals on a single shot and I mainly build for defense. This is great as the opening shot of an engagement, as it takes a bit to charge it, so not very good in the middle of combat.
Taking two things out of the way quickly, the beam saber and the small beam gun exist. Use them if necessary, but you should have better weapons to use most of the time.
The Beam Rifle grenade is your instant stagger. It's good if you have the right expectation. It staggers people. and the damage is ok. This is what you use to stagger in the middle of the fight, usually in self-defense, as the range is short. Also good for using when you get up from being toppled and are invincible. In this case the instant stagger is nice.
The Shoulder Beam Cannons (or whatever they are called) are fun. They only need 1s to charge! The info on the weapon tells us they deal a base damage of around 300. Wait, doesn't that mean they are bad? No. They deal around 300 damage per hit. With 2 cannons and 5 hits each, you have a base damage of 3K. Now, that doens't happen frequently. The beams have good stagger build up, but they won't do anything else. Usually you will just fire it and get some hits on people, unless you really want to aim and try to maximise the damage. This is a continuous beam that also pierces targets, so if your allies are constantly getting in front of your shots, use this to give them a heads up. It will damage the enemy through your allies but won't do anything to them, as it only has stagger build up. You can use it in some cases to stop Maneuver Armor. I had times where generals would boost straight at me and this weapon would stop the and deal good damage, so it can be done, but it's not an easy thing.
Another great weapon are the missiles. They are more like a machine gun with slow bullets. They have an enormous total damage of at least 10K if I remember correctly, but you need to hit all 40 missiles for that. It's mainly a weapon for when an ally is dealing with the enemy and you need to deal some continuous damage. It's very good. The missiles have a straight trajectory and you also get an ASL, which is always welcome.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show, the Back Missiles. Oddly, this weapon may be more effective when not used. That's because it is a pretty good deterrent. Now, you may be asking yourself "why would I use missiles to wash dishes?", and I would answer "it's deterrent, not detergent". Haha, I'm so funny. Sorry.
Theese 8 huge missiles can deal a great amount of damage. Comparing to the Prototype Stark Jegan, they deal more total damage with less damage per missile. If we analyse this purely through the lens of math, I would tell you this is great for consistency. With more missiles, the chance of hitting the target is higher, but the chance of hitting all of the missiles is reduced. But math is not very helpful in this specific case. Differently from the Prototype Stark Jegan, this MS's missiles have a much worse placement and path. It's very hard to use them in maps with a lot of cover, as you need tome distance to your side to endure the missiles will not hit anything during their launch. They start slow, but become faster after a bit.
I was able to reliably hit 12K damage when hitting all missiles against generals, but I wasn't able to hit them all reliably. And that is what I mean about being more effective when not used. While you have them in your back, enemies may be a bit more cautious around you because they know half of their HP may be gone if they mess up.
The ideal situation to use these missiles are against immobile or big targets (Toppled, kneeling, snipers that are not moving, big targets etc.). An advantage of these missiles is that they are fired all at the same time, so it's pretty quick to use them. They reload somewhat quickly for what they are, so you don't need to be as conservative as when you are using the Hyper Mega Cannon on the FAZZ.

Usage and combos

This is a unit that will benefit a lot from staggers that come from your teammates. If an enemy is staggered, you can use you beam rifle to add 4K damage to that unit aside from the damage of your ally. This suit requires a lot of weapon switching, but you have a lot of weapons and they are best used in different situations. The beam rifle is your usual damage tool, you can charge to deal big damage at the beginning of an engagement and cause a stagger. The shoulder beam cannons are a support tool that you can use to hit multiple enemies or as a follow up, as the charge time is very fast. The shield missiles are your poke weapon, so you can use it to pester enemies or deal good continuous damage to the enemy. Lastly, the huge missiles are situational, but very useful.
A charged beam rifle shot followed by shoulder beam cannons can be a scary combo to enemies and is pretty fun to pull off. The suit has the Stabilization Device skill, so you become harder to stagger after a brief moment when you kneel (it takes a bit to activate, but once active, you can't be staggered by normal staggers and is more resistant to stagger build up while kneeling). You also get a small damage bonus when kneeling, so do it when you find a nice place from where you can support your allies, but not too far from the frontline. Also, try to shoot the big missiles while standing, as the bottom missiles can hit the floor depending on the situation, though they improved it a lot and you don't need to jump anymore.

Conclusion

It's a nice unit with good weapons. It can be effective in combat even against more modern MS, but still a support, so play like one. Unfortunately, this suit doesn't have a weapon it can fire while boosting, so the standard defensive maneuver of boosting back while shooting cannot be performed. Still, it's a nice unit and very fun to use. Personally, I would like to see some changes, but the text is already too long so I'll stop here. If you like the damage-focused frontline support playstyle, try this one out.
P.S.: It can get some crazy good stats the higher you go in cost.
I hope you liked it and I hope it helped. Thank you for reading.

2024.05.31 01:12 Tacticool-weeb4 ambush (part 1) a gallowglass mission.

Here’s the thing about traveling to other realities… banking is a bitch.
Normally. Sometimes you find some kinda connected places that don’t know about the multiverse but your account still exists. The hell if we understand it. It’s not an exact science.
But as a whole the trick is finding and ‘underground’ banking system. There does exist a group of people who know about the multiverse, have the ability to travel to other realities and used that power to start a banking system for those lost souls who ‘travel’ themselves. Setting up branches and imbedding themselves into local small time banks so have a foothold. They simply correspond between one another and have a system in place with your membership to tell what your account is. Sometimes that simply means turning your ‘liquid’ capital into a physical one like gold or jewels and moving them to your location or from one branch to another. Which means convoys with actual gold and valuables in them that they bring to you so you can pawn, sell or cash in those valuable in your local banking for money that can be used wherever you are.
Yes its very complicated.
And before you ask, yes It was started by the Mormons. Or atleast a version of the Mormons.
Mormons who travel between time, space, and reality.
I say this to explain that the gallowglass, in exchange for cheaper membership fees trade their services as mercenaries and security personnel protecting said convoys and even providing either manpower or training of local security personnel for their branches.
In densely populated realities like your own dear reader its less of a problem. You live in a somewhat stable place where thieves and criminals have a chance of being captured or arrested or whatever your reality of choice’s justice system does. And they might die in shootouts with local PD or swat.
Other places? Lands with a world-wide population in the tens of thousands at most. Worlds with magic and monsters? Its not the same.
For the most part the world the wolf-pack team found themselves in this time was less populated. Europe had mostly been abandoned almost a millennia ago due to dark magics.
The Europeans simply moved to what you would call the northern Americas or southern Africa.
But their does exist one enclave in the old continent. It lies in Germany. Bavaria to be exact. It’s a trade location for adventurers and mercs who venture into the lost lands for loot or to do some ‘hunting’ even researchers.
It’s a long road to what’s left of Venice. A few ships and a wall mostly through the old city to keep out what jumps out of the water.
Three fuel trucks. Some ‘money’ trucks full of that physical capital. And several arms convoy trucks and a striker for the bigger beasties in the woods. Because who doesn’t love 20MM chain guns. They convoy even had some accounting people transferring location or who’s tour in the Bavarian frontier was over.
The german guard where somewhat skilled and respected. Fighting monsters and devils in the black forest and mountains in turn of the century camping gear for a lack of better words. Militias. Bolt action rifles. Some sub guns. But their gear was somewhat close to what some of the gallowglass members fought against in the 40s…. but this world that never happened. Napoleon was never born. The world was very different. But the gear evolved and ended up fairly similar.
Joe had fought in the pacific back in those days but he still knew the gear. Wool, bolt actions. Mountaineering gear. He spends enough time in the woods to understand a lot of old… and some of their ‘modern’ gear in worlds where that’s a thing. Is based off of outdoors sportsmen’s gear.
Joe was in the second vehicle in the passenger seat. His old Vietnam era cravat bandanna wrapped around his skull keeping his long hair out of his eyes. His braided ponytail behind him. The mountain air was nice and chilling. Not yet snowing but these mountains had a crispness to them. He was in his M81 pants and a blue wool and sheepskin plaid coat over his chest rig. 6 mags in front for his M4. One on his hip. A few more in his coat and backpack. And one in his rifle, wedge next to his seat and center console.
Him and dante, the resident hunter of the wolfpack who had a bolt action rifle himself. They had ammo and food and water in their forerunner. Joes’ best friend David was in the gunners hatch. M60 chambered in 45-70 ready to rock and roll at a moment’s notice.
They were listening to an audiobook through the cabs radio system.
The big navy seal in the gunners hatch was eating trail mix and couldn’t help but wonder. “hey joe? Your old as shit… what are those bull things out there we keep passing?”
Joe looked out the window. “aurochs… ancestor of the cows you grew up seeing on TV. Went extinct in your reality long ago… but whipping out a whole continent and scattering its people is surprisingly good for conservation. Their kinda cool. I like them more then other cows… their harder to farm though. Aint like the Scottish kind I use to work”
“you mean steal?” Dante wondered?
The Irishman flipped him off with a grin.
Dante snickered and shook his head. “oddest cowboy iv ever met… and my little brother does that shit and he’s Vietnamese” dante had been adopted by Vietnamese and white parents. He himself was north African and Arabic. His brother on the other hand was a wiry guy. Short, but loved him some cowboy boots and 10 gallon hats.
Most people forget joe use to be a cowboy… well, he use to be a lot of things. 8000 years is a long time to do any one job.
Joes radio barked. “red wolf… this is fox”
Kasumi, joes wife was towards the middle of the convoy. It was her turn to watch the drone they had set up to scout the old mountain road ahead.
Joe lowered the volume on the audiobook. A fun little diddy about recon marines fighting a dragon. Written by a former recon marine like joe had been.
He grabbed his PTT and spoke into it. “go ahead.”
“We got something ahead. Let’s stop… looks like it might be an ambush.”
“Do you have thermal?”
“no.. that drone needed to be recharged. I’m working off of our spare. The older cheap model.”
Joe swore. Him and dave had ‘found’ these in a weapons cash in Syria a few months before and were trying them out. Why spend money on gear when you could steal it instead.
“all callsigns. Prepare to stop. Game plan, fox?”
“its about a mile up ahead and on the other side of this mountain. The road bends and there’s some fallen trees. It looks deliberate. Wanna foot patrol it.”
Joe keyed his radio twice to say he understood. “dave? Can you hand me my pack?”
Wordlessly he ducked in and grabbed it. Joe unhooked the ghillie suit from the bottom.
Once they pulled to a halt the german guard started pulling security. The gallowglass started heading into the woods up and down hill a few dozen meters for an outer perimeter to make sure they didn’t get any surprises.
Or simply opened their doors and rested their guns there to fight from a good position. They had more than just the pack this time.
Lin had a belt fed FN minimi instead of a door on her vehicle. Said door was actually in the trailer she was pulling incase it started to rain or got really cold. But right now, this part of the forest? Guns up time.
Frank was an odd sight. The big minotaur with an FAL had one hoof out of a diesel with the flap open. Eyes scanning. The cold air shooting smoke from his pierced nostril. Speaking of cowboys. The former cop was taking mercenary work really well. And yes. The bull man use to be a sheriffs deputy in Wyoming… in this very universe.
He looked over to the detective across from him. “Hey Anderson? How you liking Europe so far?”
The mid-sized former fighter was ‘borrowing’ some of the gear from the Germans this cross country mission shit was new to him. “yea Frankie, it beautiful out here. I just thought there would be more castles”
Joe walked past. “What are you looking for castles for? Dreaming of taking over?”
The brunnete scoffed. “na gunny, just looking for a place to take my wife on vacation when I get home.”
Joe shook his head with a smile. “dude, these castles would predate what you would find there… ill get you a list”
The Irishman started changing into his camo top and threw his burlap ghillie poncho over his shoulders. It was split in the middle for access to his chest rig. The Japanese spy already had her own on as she moved forward. Type 89 in hand.
This was just scouting. Neither of them where gonna drag a 7.62 rifle with them. Yet. Sure, they had an XM-21 in the trucks. Along with some M110’s and more. But they wanted to get in. scout and get back. If they where good at their job they’d go in. confirm the ambush. Come back, rally the troops and ambush the ambushers.
Kasumi had her boonie hat on. a similar and different ponytail then her husbands. Black hair with a blue highlight.
Joe locked the surefire suppressor on his 13.5 M4. He could do a lot with an ACOG and RMR. They only had one water bottle each and left their packs. Slowly pushing up the hill and cutting across the woods to find their spot. Tossing their hoods up and using the darkness form the trees and fog in the air to make the seem like ghosts in the brush.
The moister made the leaves damp. No crunch. But they still avoided sticks and dry spots. Even mud. Neither wanting to leave footprints incase they needed to hastily return to the trucks. They also weren’t in the best place their either. They’d need to turn them around and go back to find another path. And with a drop on one side and a rise on the other that would be a problem. Without being under gunfire.
20 minutes later joe and Kasumi were going from a low crouch to almost a crawl as they go up the rocky outcropping above their area of interest. Wedging between some boulders and using them for cover. Both looked around.
Locking eyes joe shrugged. Kasumi used sign language to talk a bit. They spent a few moments looking around. If the coast was clear their walk up and inspect the logs themselves.
Joe pulled up his rifle. Looking through the lightly magnified optic. He had a monocular in his chest rig but he figured this was quicker.
Then he saw something that made him double take. It was weird enough to warrant said monocular.
The trees seemed to have been cut. Joe tapped kas with his knee so she looked at him. Signing what he saw and handing her the looking glass. Which was dummy corded to him so she had to scrunch up close. Now wasn’t the time to be cuddling in the leaves but joe did enjoy the closeness of his wife.
She nodded. Reaching into the butt pouch on her belt she pulled out her thermal. Scanning around.
Claymores at the base of the trees.
But no people… no.
No
No
Wait? There was something there. A small heat print.
Joe focused his non thermal on it.
Sure enough it was a low dugout ambush point with guys in it. And another. And another. Each shielded from thermals with a poncho or cover that disrupted those capabilities.
But who was using that out here?
Where they from this reality? Most likely not. This place didn’t have thermals, let along knowledge enough to make shielding. So it was more ‘travelers’
It was common enough. Many realities saw the ability to travel form one dimension to another the same way you would look at taking a vacation to Yellowstone or Disney land.
Just save up some money and or find a way.
Joe and Kasumi thought themselves lucky. If they had approached from almost any other way or just bumbled through the woods these bastards would have seen them.
But marry a recon marine an a ninja and see if you don’t end up with a pair of sneaky fuckers.
Kasumi grabbed her push to talk on her radio and whispered into it.
“convoy, this is fox… enemy contact. Over”
David responded. The sound of him unlocking and pulling his M60 off its mount to use mobile. “roger fox. What’s the call?”
“we can take them from the rear. We’ll move back to you. And lead you guys in… tell lin to grab her grenade launcher. We cant use mortars in these trees and if we try to charge in with the trucks we don’t know what they’ll do. We’re gonna recon a bit more. Can’t see what all they have. Claymores behind 4 fallen trees in an X pattern.”
“how thick are the trees?”
“When we clear them we’ll have to us C4 probably. Then hit it with the lead MRAP.”
“Should we turn back?”
Kasumi looked to joe. He tucked his head over and whispered into her ear. “I’m guessing roughly mid 20’s to 30s. given how many of those hideouts they have and how big they are.”
“can we take them?”
“as long as we don’t bring them back to the convoy… we have a mile to fight… maybe about 15 of us. Leave to Germans to guard. We’ll set up gun positions and grenade launchers to rain down on them. Get them in the open and pick our targets”
Kasumi nodded. Resting her forehead into his shoulder in the process.
“black wolf. This is fox… we think we can take them”
About then one of the ambushers left his hide to take a leak.
And that really brought pause to the couple.
He was decked out in German gear.
Not that old school guard gear either.
No. modern german Bundeswehr flecktarn gear with plate carrier and G36.
They even got a glimpse of their belt fed.
Joe pulled out his rit-in-the rain and sketched out their position. They needed to hit those guns first. Prioritize shwacking the hell out of their fighting holes. Which apon more inspection was mostly pointed one way.
Once they figured out what they needed to do joe and kas started backing up. getting behind the boulder before standing in a low crouch.
Rounding the boulder, they saw something they weren’t expecting.
A German sniper team doing the same thing they where doing returning from their own recon.
Joe reacted quickly. Snapping his M4 up and letting rip some suppressed shots the 30 yards between them. Kasumi almost just as quickly.
But the german team had 5 men and one of them got behind a tree before returning fire. But when he did kas rounded down the rocks a bit and shot him in the leg. He lost his balance. Screamed in pain and slid down the hill onto his back. Kas put a few more rounds into his chest. Some missing because of his low form and hitting the earth. But killing him non the less.
The german unsuppressed shots. The yelling and then their suppressed shots echoing through the holler. While they might not be able to tell where exactly the shots came from alone suppressers echoed along the trees and withing the 200 yards from the fighting positions they definitely heard the sneaky pair.
Both turned. Kas cursed in Japanese and joe in Gaelic. they heard voiced and movment through the woods and down the hollar.
They were made.
