2024.06.06 00:03 TheKingterow Feedback, advice and tips for a young conductor

Hi everyone! I'm a 22 year old music/cs student from Panama, and this is my second year conducting a choral camerata. Last year we performed a work with 14 movements/songs; I worked on the choral score book, doing plenty of editing/arranging. Needless to say, I became very familiar with the music just by working with the notation daily.
This year, we'll be performing a 40-minute, 12 movement work, and though it's less music than last year, it's also more complex (some more polyphony, countermelodies and syncopation). I'm very glad that the choir grew from 30 members to a little over 50, but I'm starting to get a little nervous.
I'm no professional conductor, I'm just a kid who started to learn piano when he was 8 and has kept going since. I sing bass in a semi-professional choir (exclusively classical sacred music repertoire), and have been doing that for 5 years, but that would be about the amount of choral experience I have singing-wise. Of course, I'm very thankful to have a handful of mentors to draw wisdom from, and the director of the sacred music choir is helping me out with conducting tips. I've adopted his style of conducting and incorporated it into my own as I learn.
Nonetheless, this year we have a larger lineup and even a few seasoned musicians (who have also been choral conductors). I am by far the youngest conductor (in-training) in the area, and even though I did have my first experience as a director last year, I feel a little intimidated. We're a church choir (members aren't from only one local church, but from several churches belonging to the organization), and most chorists don't read sheet music, but we're helping them slowly learn.
I'd really like some advice from singers and conductors! What tips would you give a young director (when the average age of the choir is 30)? What would make you lose or gain the respect of a musical leader much younger than yourself? How can I get rid of pre-rehearsal jitters? Any advice on how to best conduct amateur chorists?
Anything else would be highly appreciated! Thank you.

2024.06.05 23:12 Lopsided-Owl-9988 28M Anyone up for some truth or dare? 👀

Here's a lil bit about me:
Stuff I'm into:
-Music: I play guitar, keyboard, bass and sing and mainly love jazz and r&b and a bit of j rock/j-pop at times
-Games: I'm a huge kingdom hearts and persona 5 fan, for multiplayer, I don't really play much at the moment but we can play Stardew valley together!
-Tv/film: I love fleabag, Atlanta, succession and beef, also watch a bit of anime sometimes but not too much, loved jujutsu kaisen and hells paradise lately.
YouTubers: I love nakeyjakey, philosophy tube, super eye patch wolf, gigguk, Ludwig/mogul mail and more!

2024.06.05 23:02 2014YearEndRate 2014 Billboard Year End Hot 100 Rate

Lately I’ve been, I’ve been losing sleep
Thinking about the things that we could be.
Ten years! Can you believe it has been that long since the year of our lord, 2014? So much happened! Remember the Ice Bucket Challenge? Remember Lip Sync Battle? Remember Alex from Target?

 You don’t?
Well, too bad! It’s the perfect time to readdress all of those things and more, breaking in just over a decade after everything happened! This whole rate comes from me seeing people talking about how much the music from the 2010s was better than what we have now, and I thought- but truly was it? Or do we look through it with nostalgia glasses, because those songs were there in important moments of our lives? Do we think those things because it’s hard to step away from a present that, honestly, is pretty dire?
This is a rate of escapism, but also taking off our rose-colored glasses. Do you want to tell me that the songs from ten years ago were better than the ones we got today? Well, put your money where your mouth is!

If you want a head start!

Here is the ballot! If that doesn’t work, the pastebin should! If you can’t send it through reddit, I am in the popheads discord server, but just in general you can find me as corona (yes, I know) or here on reddit as u/CrimsonROSET everywhere you look! 2024.06.05 23:01 TiltControls Mid 00s Radio Pop Rate (Black Eyed Peas vs. Pussycat Dolls vs. Timbaland)

Congratulations! You are caller number 203 here on POPH - Popheads Radio! You have won a front-row seat to our next rate. Don your Juicy Couture, make very normal facial expressions and limber up because it’s time for...

The Mid-00s Radio Pop Rate!

The mid-aughts are remembered for a lot of things: the dawn of the social media craze (and related messiness) with MySpace, the beginning of the Golden Age of Television, stores that sell dark clothes, dark stores that sell clothes...I could go on. The music of the time is no exception - the mid-2000s saw new genres enter the mainstream conscious (crunk, metalcore, ringtone rap) while older, more established genres gained popularity (pop punk, country, singer-songwriter). At the center of the musical zeitgeist was an incredibly strong and savvy pop sphere. With this period encompassing the fullest power of artists like Britney, Shakira, Justin Timberlake, P!nk, Rihanna, Nelly Furtado, Alicia Keys and more, it was truly a blessed time in Top 40 Radio.
The Billboard charts were often greeted by three acts in particular who contributed several of the most iconic pop tracks of the period. These artists seamlessly fused pop sensibilities with influences from other genres to produce radio hit after radio hit. This month, we will be diving into three seminal albums of 2000s pop music: Monkey Business, PCD, and Shock Value.

Black Eyed Peas - Monkey Business

Although the Black Eyed Peas are probably most well known as the foursome of will.i.am, Fergie, Taboo and Apl.de.ap, they actually had their beginnings much earlier than the 2000's when they first blew up in popularity. Actually if you wanted to, you could trace the lineage of the Black Eyed Peas back to the olden days of 1988. Radio was filled with the hits of artists such as Pet Shop Boys (do 80's duos in September), Roxette (do 80's duos in September) and other artists of the time.
But more importantly than any of that, high schoolers William Adams Jr. (will.i.am.) and Allan Lindo Jr. (Apl.de.ap) joined together for the first time alongside some friends to create the beginnings of the group, initially a hip-hop / dance crew. The group was noticed and signed by N.W.A rapper Eazy-E, though their debut album was shelved and contract stalled after Eazy-E's death. The next iteration of the group added additional long time member Jaime Gomez (Taboo) as well as vocalist Kim Hill. The group took up the moniker Black Eyed Pods (later changed to the more famous Peas) and released two well-received rap albums, though both had limited commercial success.
After their second album the group shifted away from critical reception and began to focus more on mass market appeal. Taboo would describe it as "if he was going to sell out, he'd rather be selling out arenas than selling out of my trunk on the corner of my block." Kim Hill had left the group after the 2nd album and they got Stacy Ferguson (Fergie) to fill the spot. Although originally only supposed to be a feature on one song, the recording went well enough that the group formally invited her as a permanent member and she was made to be the final addition of the Black Eyed Peas quartet. In 2003 the group released their first album with their line-up of four titled Elephunk.
Elephunk was a sizeable success over their previous efforts and spawned a number of hits including a top 10 song with Where Is The Love, co-wrote and featuring Justin Timberlake. Following singles Shut Up, Hey Mama, and Let's Get It Started all became moderate hits, with the latter giving them their first Grammy nominations and also a win for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. It seems at this point for critical and commercial success they could both have their cake and eat it too.
At this point the group was enjoying their new-found success. They managed to soundtrack one of the earliest iPod silhouette commercials, had their music promote the 2004 NBA playoffs, and were contacted by EA to soundtrack a spinoff of the Sims franchise titled 'The Urbz: Sims in the City', in which they recorded some Simlish bangers and appeared as themselves in-game. While enjoying their newfound popularity touring to promote Elephunk, the group began working on their follow-up album and in 2005 they released Monkey Business.
While Monkey Business was said to be another step down critically, commercially it reached heights that Black Eyed Peas could only previously dream of. The album was a resounding success for the group as it became their first album to debut in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 (at number 2). It also spawned two massive singles, My Humps and Don’t Phunk With My Heart, both of which hit a career peak for the group at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 with another two singles, Pump It and Don’t Lie, also hitting the top 20.
To say the critical reception was mixed would not be doing the discourse justice. While the production on the album was praised, the lyrics were often derided for the continued focus on only commercial appeal. A good amount of the discussion was particularly focused around the single ‘My Humps’ which despite being called ‘one of the worst songs of all time’ by multiple critics also managed to pick up a Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals beating out fellow rate competitor The Pussycat Dolls, as well as critical faves Death Cab For Cutie.
Still, the Black Eyed Peas were the ones laughing to the bank in the end. The album was an even bigger success than their previous one and brought them even further into the mainstream appeal they were aiming for a couple years prior. And although the name ‘Black Eyed Peas’ nowadays is taken a little bit as a joke due to the continued release of commercially popular, albeit critically panned singles, Monkey Business remains a great listen as long as you don’t mind shutting your mind off at times and letting your body go wild to the music.

Pussycat Dolls - PCD

Here’s a fun fact for you - the Pussycat Dolls did not begin as a girl group. In fact, before they ever set foot in a recording studio, the Pussycat Dolls were founded in 1995 in Los Angeles, CA as a burlesque dance troupe by Robin Antwin and her roommate Christina Applegate. Yes, that Christina Applegate. The troupe performed at a nightclub in LA weekly with a rotating lineup of dancers and guest performers that ranged from Carmen Electra to Gwen Stefani to Christina Aguilera (hmm
that froot looks familiar). The troupe made guest appearances in movies, music videos and Maxim. After encouragement from Interscope Records music producers, the group changed its lineup and pivoted from the glamorous and sweaty world of burlesque dance to the glamorous and sweaty world of pop music.
After a culling of the lineup and auditions to find additional vocalists, Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton and Kaya Jones joined seven other members who were holdovers from the prior troupe to form the PCD recording group (another fun fact here- this lineup almost included actress Carmen Electra). Their early days saw the release of a single, Sway, a contribution to the Shark Tale OST, and performances alongside Carmen Electra, (spins wheel) Tom Jones and (throws dart at a wall covered in names) Patti LaBelle (no, seriously
they brought Patti into this). With that introduction to the pop music world, PCD dropped. And what a drop it was.
PCD sold three million copies in the US and was twelfth on the 2006 year end Billboard 200. Of the six singles from this album cycle, five made it on the Billboard Hot 100 - Don’t Cha, Stickwutu, a remix of Buttons with Snoop Dogg, Beep and Wait A Minute. They toured with the Black Eyed Peas as well as a joint tour with Christina Aguileira and Danity Kane. Inarguably most illustrious, a Simlish version of Don’t Cha appears in The Sims 2: Pets. Critically they received less praise; AllMusic gave the album three out of five stars and IGN gave it 5.9/10 while other more mainstream music journals such as Rolling Stones as far as I can tell didn’t even touch it.
The group would go on to release one more album before its initial disbandment, long hiatus, reunion and almost immediate second disbandment. Despite only creating two studio albums, they redefined what a girl group could be and became the first all-female group in digital history to amass three songs that sold over 2 million units. They are icons of the mid-2000s who became cultural touchstones while also delivering us some bangers. Please, sit back, relax, loosen up your buttons, and enjoy PCD.

Timbaland - Shock Value

Though the other two groups in this rate really came into prominence in the 2000's, Timbaland (aka Timothy Mosley) had been a well known name throughout the 90's thanks to his stellar production work, which includes some former rated albums like Missy Elliott's Supa Dupa Fly and Aaliyah's One In A Million. He also released a debut solo album in the 90's titled Tim's Bio, though its success was limited compared to his production work. His production work continued throughout the early 2000’s producing follow-ups for both Missy and Aaliyah, as well as credits on other artists such as Ginuwine and Justin Timberlake.
By the mid 2000’s, Timbaland was continuing to work with the biggest names in the industry. He helped produce and featured on fellow rate competitor Pussycat Dolls’ Wait A Minute, and produced one of the biggest albums of 2006 with Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds. In 2006 Timbaland had also formed a new record label called Mosley Music Group as a successor to his previous group Beat Club. Alongside himself, some other big names for the label included Canadian singer Nelly Furtado, as well as relative unknowns (at the time) songwriter Keri Hilson and pop rock band OneRepublic. The label's very first release was Furtado's Loose which was a smash hit, hitting number one on the Billboard 200 and spawning two number one hits on the Hot 100 with Promiscuous and Say It Right.
With the label off to a smashing start the next album for release was rumoured to be his own solo effort titled 'Shock Value'. The album was said to be filled with a star studded cast across multiple genres including Elton John (do Piano Men rate), Missy Elliott, Fall Out Boy, and many many others. The album was officially confirmed with the release of its first single ‘Give It To Me’ in early 2007.
Give It To Me quickly hit number one on the Hot 100, giving Timbaland his first number one as a lead artist. In an interesting case of paying things back, both Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake feature on the track and both got their first number one hits with Timbaland as a guest feature (on Promiscuous and SexyBack respectively). Later singles The Way I Are and Apologize were also smash successes from the album, with both landing in the top 3 of the Hot 100 (#3 for The Way I Are and #2 for Apologize). The Way I Are featured label-mates Keri Hilson and D.O.E. while Apologize also famously brought OneRepublic into the public's notice for the first time. Later in the year Timbaland would produce and release their debut album, Dreaming Out Loud.
Despite the popular success of the singles, the critical reception to the album itself was a little more mixed. The album's promotion was further hit after a planned tour for the album was cancelled one day before it was set to begin. Even more unfortunate still is he’s also the only artist in the rate without any ties to The Sims franchise, which already puts him at a big disadvantage. Still, with the three big singles all sitting comfortably in the hundreds of millions of plays on streaming it's safe to say that it's still fondly remembered by the general public to this day.
He continued producing hits through the late 2000’s including songs like Madonna’s 4 Minutes and Shakira’s Give It Up To Me. Timbaland later followed up this album with Shock Value II and while it didn't have the same level of chart success, it had a couple of moderate hits with Carry Out and If We Ever Meet Again. Although Timbaland's chart successes after Shock Value never matched to the highs they once were, the hold he had on the music industry in the 90's and 00's cannot be denied. And hey, it's not like he's completely removed from the trends of the modern age

NOTE: The Timbaland Song ‘Kill Yourself’ is listed on the ballot as simply ‘Kill’. We figured getting a bunch of DM’s sent to us with the words ‘Kill Yourself’ might result in some people accidentally getting banned so this is just a precautionary measure. Please do not change it from this - we will display it properly during the reveal!

2024.06.05 21:54 Guillible-Aioli3415 32 [M4F] #Ireland Looking for an unorthodox relationship with a special woman

Hi everyone I would like what would be considered by most unorthodox relationship. To get the biggest thing out of the way, I would like what is called a female lead relationship. As a man I feel very secure in my masculinity, to the point where I don't feel emasculated if a woman leads, and I don't feel the need to tear other men down either. I feel that with such a role, as long as there is mutual respect and affection, I believe it can be a wonderful thing.
I would say I'm quite open-minded, and the most important thing in any relationship is that there are boundaries that stem from respect for each other which means that I won't be happy with anything that is done without discussion or behind my back and my partner can rest assured I'll treat her the same way. So with that out of the way, I'd like to introduce myself a bit.
Physically, I’ve got a face that’s very easy on the eyes, but I’d rather leave my face for when we get chatting.
I've got a charmed life overall, so whatever complaints I have are honestly small in comparison to what others go through. Nonetheless, we all have stressors. Therefore, I don't need drama, either from myself or from other people. Life is drama-free, and that's fantastic to say that.
To fill my time and creative expression, I love to:
Learn languages. I know a few and keep them up somewhat well. I speak several between a B2-C1 level. I also traveled for 5 years after school, so got plenty of adventures to share! And I'd like to see lovely places off the beaten path with you if you're getting close to my heart.
Dancing... I dance both Ballroom and Swing. Gotta say, I've got the knack for them both!
Go to the local sports centre, where I work on toning my slim body, as well as swim, and go to the sauna afterwards. While I'm not a fitness freak, keeping yourself somewhat active is a good balance and offsets sitting down all day.
Learn piano. I'm very much a beginner, but it brings out another part of me, just being able to lose myself in a musical instrument is a wonderful thing.
Buy clothes. I’ve got a lovely wardrobe, and it's really fun to wear colours and combinations that you never wore before!
Cook. Yes, I can cook, even though I don't always feel like it in the evening. I will eat anything, and sometimes, I just love a good, greasy and totally unhealthy Burger King meal! I also got a sweet tooth I can keep under control.
I do something called the Sedona Method, that involves getting rid of negative feelings and coming into your natural positive state. I find it makes a huge difference in my life, and I would certainly recommend others look at it to deal with pain and heavy feelings. It has helped me hugely in regards to what they call "emotional intelligence" (even if I don't like that expression too much anymore).
Speaking of sitting down, I work in an office for a public body in a junior management position, and I love my job! Currently applying for promotions, but if I don't get them, then it will be a small disappointment... I won't be in the shower in the fetal position.
I'm smart and careful with money, and am working and saving up toward having assets in the future. It's about having discipline and treating money like a responsible steward. I value others who are also smart with money.
Like what you read so far? Just message, ideally with what you liked about the post, to get something going and help me roll off from there. Just saying "hi" kills it and offers nothing. Cheers.

2024.06.05 21:45 theliftedpro Graphic Designer, Illustrator & Music Producer

Hey there, I have been working in the trades as a Sheet Metal installer for many years. I have also been working on Audio, Visual design projects throughout the years. As my trades job is taking a toll on my body and I am turning 40, I completed a Graphic Design diploma a few years ago to see about switching careers.
I am hoping to find remote work in which any of my skills could be used - Illustration, Video Editing, Audio Production and Mixing, Graphic Design and basically anything within the arts. As I don't have experience working in any major studio it is hard to find an employer who can see my potential.
I really love and have a passion for these skills, and creating music, art, books and more is something I do in my free time as well. So, I am wondering if anyone can point me in a specific direction, or if anyone can use someone with hard work ethic built in the trades, and vast knowledge and experience built in the arts to complete outstanding projects that I can put in effort as if they were my own.
Thank you and I hope everyone has a great day!

2024.06.05 21:38 aurablu2 Can I get some advice?

What would you do if you were me?
I (24 F) am in a band with 3 older guys in their 50-60s. I’ve known these guys for years and years, they’re great. I’m their lead singer and they also want me to play guitar. A few years back I was in a different band with them, but I dropped out because I had began a career that I couldn’t pass up. Now, I’ve been laid off due to no fault of my own and I am currently trying to rebuild myself.
For the last few months, I’ve been more focused on filling my cup before I can help others, so to speak. One day I reached out to the leader of the group
let’s call him Mr. Man. And I let him know that I have some free time and that maybe we could start something up again. He told me he was going to ask me the same and that we could all meet at his house (30m away) for practice every now and then. That was about 3 months ago or so.
Fast forward to now, I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. What I thought would be a casual opportunity to play every now and then and have the choice to choose songs that I love to play with an experienced band, has turned into Mr. Man telling me what songs to do, disregarding my choices altogether (when I suggest a song he tells me to do it alone without the band or we’re not doing it) and has even went as far to send demos of me to several venues, understandably with intention to book gigs, behind my back. The only reason I know he’s doing this is because he directly asks me to record myself playing and singing, and then a few days later asks me what days would work to perform at “so and so venue”. He throws me $100 every show or two, and as much as I appreciate being paid anything at all, I now have a full summer booked all the way through August without really asking me if that was okay

I’m frustrated about this, because I’m not entirely certain what I have going on in the next few months. I am married, and young, at that. My husband and I want to enjoy being spontaneous and this summer it doesn’t seem like we have a whole lot of time left to plan much of a get away

Mr. Man, however, is something of an adult toddler. He’s our drummer, and has coordinated everything thus far. Again, I’m not ungrateful for the opportunity to do this, but I am starting to question the integrity of his character. Mr. Man has lately been very passive aggressive with me, when he wants to do a song, he doesn’t ask my opinion, but rather tells me what to do and sends me links to tutorials on how to play these songs. The only issue is that he fails to realize that playing guitar and singing simultaneously requires both sides of my brain to focus on either task, and as easy as some things are for me, once you get into playing riffs and such, it’s just not possible. I have told him in the past that I’d really like to focus on my work, vocally, and leave the lead breaks over to our lead guitarist. He of course ignores my texts. And yet again, asks, “hey how’s that song coming????”
I recently had a scare with my voice. We have been doing male-focused songs that are at the lowest point of my vocal range, and one day I woke up feeling particularly tight. I recognized it as a vocal strain and let him know that I would need a few days of vocal rest. He on the other hand wanted to usher me to the hospital and even went as far to say that he would pay for everything. Again, I appreciated it, but let him know that I don’t have insurance and that I don’t have the means to pay, and that I couldn’t expect him to do that.
Today, again, he is asking to have updates on what’s going on with the song.
This has now become something that I don’t really enjoy doing anymore, because everything feels forced and I don’t feel like I have creative freedom to enjoy what I did. But, I tolerate it because of the fans and the people that come to my shows.
A little bit of my background, i have been a singer and pianist all my life. It was the main focus of my childhood. I’ve been compared to Winona Judd, Stevie Nicks, Emmylou Harris, Jewel, and the likes of those. Truly I love my voice and I love music, but not at all when I am being forced. I have ADHD and we think that it pairs with OCD as well as some form of ODD.. I taught myself how to play the guitar at 15 and I started out as a worship leader for my church at 16; I also play piano with my church- I still continue that work to this day, and right now, it just feels a little bit more fulfilling to focus on my faith, but also also I recognize that I committed to this band and that I was the one who went back to this person that I already knew was a bit emotionally immature.
My thing is, my husband wants me to do what I love to do. I want to do what I love as well. But I don’t love Mr. Man all that much anymore. Yet, he continues to buy me stage equipment, new mics, and stands
it almost feels like he’s trying to buy my presence and then if I ever show any kind of holdback, he ends up getting very mad. It’s not obvious but I know him and I can tell that’s how he’s feeling. And on top of it all I have seen him act very passively aggressive towards his wife. That’s a red flag for me..
Would you stay? What would you do if you were me? Anything is appreciated, I hope this finds the right audience. Thank you all!

2024.06.05 21:34 Brandonstillkeys Pay split for sheet music

I have created a solo piano arrangement of a song by another artist. The artist is on an indie label. The artist has also given me permission to print and sell my arrangement of their song in the form of sheet music for solo piano(doesn’t require the song lyrics btw )Does anyone have a rough idea of what the pay split should be between the arranger (me) and the song writers for copies of the sheet music sold ?

2024.06.05 20:38 SuCkEr_PuNcH-666 Just wanted to share this video of my son playing.

Just wanted to share this video of my son playing.
I have very few people to share this with and after a conversation on here in another thread I decided to share here.
This is a video of my son playing "Le Onde" by Ludovico Einaudi. He is 12 years old and non verbal autistic/ADHD with VERY limited understanding (he doesn't understand most spoken words).
He started lessons in April last year and chooses himself which songs he wants to play (he chooses by playing the song on repeat on YouTube, that is the only way I know what he wants to play). He also can't read sheet music (I am not sure if he will ever be able to), so his teacher plays and my son copies and memorises.
He started learning Le Onde on the 18th of March and this is after his lesson last week. He has since had a lesson on Monday and learned the last part of the song, but is still locking it in.
I know his playing is a bit clunky and stacatto, but he constantly amazes me with his ability to memorise something so complicated after only being shown it a couple of times. His teacher and I are trying to find ways to improve his technique, but it is a slow process due to his limited understanding.
Any advice/suggestions on things to try are very welcome. He does have hypermobility in his fingers and had low fine motor skills before he started playing piano, but his fingering has greatly improved over the past year.

2024.06.05 19:08 xXAdventXx Advent's Amazing Advice: Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk Act 1, A Campaign Fully Prepped and ready to go! (Part 2b Redbrand Hideout)

Welcome back to Advent's Amazing Advice! The series where I take popular One-Shots, Adventures, Campaigns, etc. and fully prep them for both New and Busy DMs. This prep includes music, ambiance, encounter sheets, handouts, battle maps, tweaks, and more so you can run the best sessions possible with the least stress possible!
Well done for making it this far. Here your party will find themselves at the Redbrand Hideout. This is a more typical dungeon crawl. Your players will have the option to enter from a few different locations, but overall things are relatively simple. Towards the end there's a chance for Glasstaff to escape, if he does, that's not a problem since your players will be able to encounter him later down the road. I also teased an item that will come into play next session in a twist that completely changes this adventure for the better, but you'll have to stay tuned to find out more!
Differences between my LMOP Prep and PaB:TSO Prep
Without further ado:
Included in The AAA Collection are:
Index:
Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk Act 1
Over 5 dozen other Fully Prepped One-Shots, Adventures, and Campaigns: Click Here
As always, if you see something you think I can improve, add, change, etc. please let me know. I want this to be an amazing resource for all DMs and plan to keep it constantly updated! If you'd like to support me, shape future releases, and get content early feel free to check out my Patreon!

2024.06.05 17:57 fattestduck Any books that complement to Alfred's basic adult piano course book?

Hi,
I'm using Alfred's basic adult piano course book and I'm finding it really helpful.
A problem I'm having is that there's not much sheet music to practice on. For example, in one page, the author teaches the C major chord, but there are only two very small/simple songs to practice: Brother John and Here's a Happy Song. After this, the author moves on to another subject, like introducing B for the left hand.
Are there any other books that have lots more sheet music so I can build up my skills in these topics before moving on to the next?
I've had a look at Alfred's sight reading book 1, but that follows similar structure with limited practice sheet music.
Thanks very much!

2024.06.05 17:48 nigelinin Any Tips for an amateur starting a small jam/chamber group?

Any tips for an amateur starting their own mini (chamber?) group?
I've been playing violin for a little under 3 years but I don't get an opportunity to play with people much so I trying to start a small jam group. I'm drawing members from a large sports organization I'm part of so not many play instruments. That said, I managed to grab:
I guess I'll be the concert master, I have experience in ensemble (I used to be part of a jazz band and concert band as a trumpet player). I have experience arranging music for ensemble and a bit of experience leading a group with my playing as a violin in gigs (mainly playing with a piano, leading with the body and looking and all that).
My goal is to play at a big party held by my sports organization after the season is over in November. I've been playing solo at this event for the past two years (last year I played with a looper pedal with a bass guitar). This year i want to bring this group to play there. Its not a high pressure performance, more like in the background as people are coming in and mingling.
