2024.06.02 17:18 caliform [Self-promo Sunday] Hi Reddit, I'm half of the team behind Halide. We just launched a new pro video camera called Kino! Come check it out, let us know what you think and get a promo code while they last

Hey Reddit!
I'm u/caliform, 50% of the team behind Halide, a camera app for iPhone and iPad which turned seven (7!) last week. To celebrate, we released a new camera app: Kino.
(if you want to skip my long post about it, you can find out more about it here: http://shotwithkino.com)
Kino has been a long time in the works. We always wanted to do a video app - and we got started with Spectre and recently Orion, our free app for turning your iPad into an HDMI monitor. Last year we felt like we had a shot to do this before Ben, the other half of the team, would have his baby, so we posted this video.
Well, babies choose their own due dates šŸ˜…. Ben's baby Ethan came early - so Ben went on a brief leave, and Kino spent a bit more time in the oven.
So here's Kino! Kino's whole idea is that like Halide, it's easy enough for beginners to take beautiful cinematic video but work great for pros.
To do that, we include a set of presets made by some awesome pros: Tyler Stalman, Stu Maschwitz, Evan Schneider, Kevin Ong, and Sandwich Video. Also me (Sebastiaan de With)! You can apply these to video on your iPhone in a tap, so you get a pro color grade without having to do any editing. Especially nice on iPhone 15 Pro with Log footage, which skips a lot of processing. You can also apply them to footage later (including footage from other apps).
We do some clever auto-exposure with a feature called 'AutoMotion'. In brief, without getting technical, it optimizes for that nice cinematic motion look you get in film rather than average iPhone shots. No need to tweak settings - just look for 'Auto' to turn green (ND filter in daylight recommended).
It also packs in a ton of pro features - an RGB waveform, layout guides, custom recording presets, audio device levels / connecting, USB-C external drive support, saving to Photos or Files, loading custom LUTs, and a whole lot more.
Now, this *is* a v1.0. We have lots of things we're adding even in v1.1, and huge plans for the app going forward. But we wanted to get it in people's hands and see what people like, what they want, and how it's used. :)
Kino was launched on Halide's 7th anniversary, and that's no coincidence. We're really humbled that we have managed to make a job out of making apps, and we hope that you trust us to keep working on making it better and being right on top of new developments in iOS and iPhone.
Reddit has always been awesome for us ā€” a place to get honest feedback, great community and more. I'd love to hear what you think of the app, and answer any questions (AMA!)!
Thanks for reading all that (I'm sorry for you, or glad that happened) ā€” I'll check in through the day with our promo codes til they're out!.
TLDR: new app from Halide team makes video good and easy, let us know what you think!

2024.06.02 16:46 jt-for-three Roommate for Kendall Sq Apt - $2170

Roommate for Kendall Sq Apt - $2170
Hello, hope everyone's having a great weekend!
Building: Looking for a roommate to join me on a lease for a 2bd/1ba apartment in Kendall Square (Watermark at Kendall East). Took a tour and was very impressed - spacious rooms with large (almost 360) windows that let in a ton of daylight, an incredible rooftop view of the surrounding area and Charles, and all other typical apartment building amenities (fitness center, concierge, office spaces, outdoor terrace, bbq courtyard etc). Kendall Square as a neighborhood is pretty amazing in itself and doesn't need much intro.
About me: 25M, been living in Boston the last 4 years after graduating from college in New York. I work for a tech company in Back Bay with a hybrid in-office/WFH setup. Incredibly respectful and friendly towards all my roommates -- several of them have gone on to becoming close friends of mine over the years. I keep everything clean, am 420 friendly (don't smoke myself outside of being peer-pressured by friends occasionally, but not in shared spaces), quiet (outside of frustrating Celtics games nights jk), and always down for a good conversation. I'm an avid hiker (just came back from a week-long backpacking trip in Utah; planning on doing Yellowstone next!), religiously follow the Celtics (banner 18 baby!) and spend most of my free time in the apartment reading or working on some side-projects. Happy to share more in DMs (including social media profiles to prove I'm not a modern-day Ted Bundy). No pets, but love dogs and cats both so they're welcome!
Move-in Timeline: Sept 1, but I am a bit flexible in-case you're looking to move in earlier around mid early Aug.
Rent: 2bd/1ba apartment, ~920 sq ft (excellent layout with rooms on opposite sides of the living room): $4340/mo, so ~$2200 each if you include internet/electric as well. Water, sewage etc is already covered in base rent. My bathroom use is very minimal (15m to shower in the morning for the most part). So the single bathroom shouldnā€™t be a problem unless you care about having your own. I personally donā€™t, and think the perks of the building/location outweigh that, but I understand if you feel differently!
Shoot me a message if you'd be interested -- I'm happy to do another tour / hang in general to learn more about you!

struggling to get a flexbox image container and a text container next to each other in grid
I have used grid template area as such
header header header header
image-container image-container text text
footer footer footer footer
the text will always go below the imagecontainer, I tried a myriad of ways but no success, I was using standard grid-template-columns and grid-column 2/3. I got the header and footer where I wanted but the text box chills out down below. The more I mess the worse it gets!!

2024.06.02 15:01 aznpersuazion Why Vancouver has THE BEST FOOD IN NORTH AMERICA

Alright, buckle up because we're diving into why Vancouver's food scene is straight-up legendary. Forget the regular city vibes; Vancouver is a melting pot of flavors, a culinary carnival that beats anything else in North America. Join me on this personal quest to unravel why the combo of Asian influence, Pacific Northwest goodness, and chill dining vibes makes Vancouver the top pick for foodies.
Asian Culinary Delights: Tradition and Creativity Unleashed
Vancouver's streets resonate with the aromas of traditional Asian dishes, prepared with a touch of authenticity that transports you across borders. Picture slurping savory ramen in Chinatown or savoring hand-pulled noodles in a cozy corner of East Van. But what makes Vancouver's Asian food scene truly exceptional is its fusion of tradition with modern creativity.
In this city, innovation meets tradition on a plate. Take, for instance, squid ink brioche with sea urchin pĆ¢tĆ© ā€“ a daring yet harmonious blend of flavors that pushes the boundaries of culinary expectations. Vancouver's chefs are culinary artists, creating dishes that not only pay homage to traditional recipes but also elevate them into extraordinary, palate-pleasing experiences.
And let's not forget the matcha mochi croissants that have taken the city by storm. A fusion of Japanese mochi and French croissants, these delectable pastries are a testament to Vancouver's culinary diversity. Each bite is a dance of textures and tastes, showcasing the city's flair for seamlessly blending cultures and cuisines.
Pacific Northwest's Grocery List: Seafood Galore and More
Living next to the Pacific Ocean is like having a seafood aisle in your backyard. Fresh salmon, sweet Dungeness crab, and chubby spot prawns ā€“ Vancouver's seafood game is on point. And let's not forget the local veggies and meats, straight from the region's green landscapes. It's like natureā€™s way of saying, "Hey, enjoy the good stuff!"
Nature Vibes: Dining with a View
Vancouver's layout is like a dating app for food and nature; they're a match made in heaven. Whether you're brunching in a leafy neighborhood or devouring seafood with an ocean panorama, the city serves up an Instagrammable backdrop for every meal. Picture this: a patio, a breeze, and the scent of fir trees ā€“ eating out just got a whole lot cooler.
Neighborhood Chronicles: Culinary Adventures Off the Beaten Path
Downtown is cool, but venture out, and you'll hit foodie gold. Commercial Drive's eclectic spots or Richmond's legit Asian flavors ā€“ Vancouver's neighborhoods are like culinary treasure maps. Each area has its own flavor story, tempting you to be the food explorer you were born to be.
Conclusion
Vancouver isn't just a city with good food; it's a food fiesta waiting to happen. The Asian vibes, the Pacific Northwest's goodies, and the city's chill connection with nature make dining here a full-blown experience. Vancouver isn't just North America's food champion; it's a vibe, a journey through flavors, and a big, fat stamp on your foodie passport. So, next time you're craving a culinary adventure, Vancouver's got your back, fork, and knife.

2024.06.02 14:38 Particular_Being_269 My Top 15 Cutest Cartoon Art Styles

My Top 15 Cutest Cartoon Art Styles
https://preview.redd.it/l9ipllbik54d1.png?width=588&format=png&auto=webp&s=8ca828da9bfb9d8c454541868bf5854e3eb97361
Greetings, people of the cartoons subreddit! Particular Being 269 here, and today I wanted to make a different kind of post today that Iā€™m surprised I havenā€™t seen more people try to cover: a list of the top 15 cartoons with the cutest art styles (in my opinion, of course). And yes, I went with 15 instead of the usual 10 because there were just too many shows I couldnā€™t for the life of me leave out.
For this countdown, I looked at various cartoons for people of any target age group and picked out the ones whose art/animation style, designs, layouts, and other aspects caught my eye the most for how cute and endearing they appeared to me visually speaking. You might even notice some patterns as to what styles draw me in the most in this regard the further we get into things.
Now I must make note: how one person defines ā€œcuteā€ may be very different from how another person defines the word. And I know there are definitely select shows a handful of folks would rank amongst the all-time cutest that didnā€™t make my personal list. So I ask that you please respect my opinions, and Iā€™ll be totally willing to respect all of yours.
Without further ado, letā€™s kick things off withā€¦
15. Harvey Girls Forever (formerly known as Harvey Street Kids)
https://preview.redd.it/3mz8v6ckk54d1.jpg?width=2400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=116303348f145eb9f52e0e5136934fd6b7f05d6b
Weā€™re kicking things off with a 2D-animated Dreamworks series inspired by an old comic book series. And I must say I think the team behind this show did a great job at putting their own modernized spin on the classic character designs. With a bright and vibrant color palette, simplified and stylized character designs that make each character appear just as playful and approachable, and a whimsical variety of backgrounds, Harvey Girls Forever managed to just sneak by at #15.
14. Gravity Falls
https://preview.redd.it/kg55k3ksk54d1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=90db64bac423e40c67c0bdd36d822436c5def07a
Compared to the last entry, this ever-so-acclaimed Disney series makes a lot more detailed use of techniques such as shading that really help make it stand out amongst others of its kind. And when it comes to the characters, this has to be my personal favorite example of the now commonly-coined ā€œCalArtsā€ style. While I couldā€™ve easily put other shows like Steven Universe and Star vs. The Forces of Evil in this spot (and believe me, Iā€™ve pondered doing so for a while), Gravity Falls ultimately ended up being the one that won out in the end. Thanks to its memorably distinct and expressive character designs, as well as various other nuances, itā€™s no wonder why this show (and art style) became such a favorite ever since its release.
13. Rosieā€™s Rules
https://preview.redd.it/s0s1ahetk54d1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6256e1d350e769e1cc623be162565eead3cc405
Weā€™ve now reached the first preschool show and only PBS Kids representation on my list, as well as the most recent show to come out in my list. Rosieā€™s Rules, which premiered in 2022, centers around the titular 5-year old Rosie exploring the world around her in her San Antonio home through a multicultural lens. On that note, I really admire the diverse range of ethnicities and cultures being represented within the character designs. Whether it be in skin tone, hairstyle, or clothing attire, each characterā€™s appearance is super distinct. And one combination Iā€™m particularly fond of in many animated shows is the combination of bright colors and bold lines, yet still keeping the characterā€™s features relatively simplified to maintain that cuteness factor. Now moving on to a much more recognizable piece of childhood for manyā€¦
12. The Fairly OddParents
https://preview.redd.it/9m1bieutk54d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56ed672cf4c1b0ac062a9f46e6573a8675f275b6
While many of Butch Hartmanā€™s shows feature fairly similar designing techniques, I personally think that his first and longest-running series in The Fairly Oddparents made the best use of this in terms of how it enhances itā€™s cuteness and distinguishable appearance. The show is very vibrant and colorfully saturated for one. The animation style is very expressive and fast-paced, and the characterā€™s features manage to keep things simple while still being able to exaggerate from time to time. Similar to the last several entries, I always enjoy what various cartoons can pull off from simplicity. And in FOPā€™s case, it created a very humorous, beautiful, and memorable experience for my eyes. And while the new FOP: A New Wish also has a cute art style (despite being totally different from the original), the original is ultimately what lands here.
11. Over the Garden Wall
https://preview.redd.it/536c3w6uk54d1.jpg?width=2500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6587c5719914f52ec38d7276a3477c5526c8e894
When I asked folks a long while back what they thought some of the cutest cartoon art styles were, this was one that came up a lot. And despite not having seen it myself for the longest time, I can definitely see why. With its more vintage aesthetics and influence, more muted color palette, more subtle lining and expressions, and fall-like textures, this is definitely a different direction than what was taken with many of the other shows Iā€™ve mentioned already. Also, those eyes? YES. Anyway, this show ended up doing a perfect job at capturing that folky, supernatural and nostalgic tone with its various art influences that help make it stand out in such a special way. And while weā€™re on the topic of shows with folkloric and autumn-like influencesā€¦
10. Hilda
https://preview.redd.it/33gxh7muk54d1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=65ec08faee385c76c4875cee399e21f47c9c6fb7
This is the other show on my list that has an art style that makes for a very cozy fall-viewing experience. First inspired by a graphic novel series, the animated show is defined by its visually enchanting settings, smooth and naturalistic animation, harmonious and more subdued color palette, and once again keeping things simple, soft and rounded, yet also expressive and distinct at the same time. The Scandinavian and minimalistic influences ended up doing wonders for Hilda, alongside the many atmospheric effects. So with all of that combined, I had to place it here at #10.
9. Sandra The Fairytale Detective
https://preview.redd.it/fapet9gvk54d1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25f2290f33368561b3c18802f985b543acc1a138
Going back to things that are a lot brighter and vibrant in color, we have this Spanish animated series which came out in 2009. And while that color does earn it a lot of points in the cuteness department for me (in addition to perfectly suiting the magical ā€˜fairytaleā€™ aspect of the show), I also really dig the various gradient style of shading here too. That and of course, large and expressive eyes. The color variety also extends to things like hair and clothing also, which once again help each character stick out individually. On one little last minor note, but this is one of the shows on the list that also gets boosted by incorporating a frequent use of my favorite facial expression: šŸ˜Æ (or ā€˜pogsā€™ as I like to call them, basically anytime a character reacts wide-eyed and with their mouth/lips compressed in a small/rounded shape). Thisā€™ll also very much apply for a later entry down the line also, but in the meantime, letā€™s move on to another big childhood favorite of mineā€¦
8. My Life As A Teenage Robot
https://preview.redd.it/w410k9tvk54d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da3d3ac80f86dbe9162e8783762c5bf58e0c6e5c
This Nickelodeon classic is another example of how much I enjoy when retro influences combine with futuristic animation and design techniques. Aside from another entry weā€™ll get into a bit later, this is one of those rare examples that features such heavy amounts of action despite having such an endearing art style. And while yes, Jenny herself is definitely the biggest contributor to this show landing so high on my list, many of the other characters also share similar design traits that endear me to them too. With the bold outlines, distinct silhouettes, large eyes, and very fluid animation style that enhances the excitement of various scenes. So thatā€™s ultimately what got MLAATR to land here at #8.
7. Bee and Puppycat
https://preview.redd.it/7pizt63wk54d1.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21facb97f67be81a2c224d21e909f24faa86e150
Another show that has been requested to me numerous times over for shows in this category, andā€¦ yeah, they were definitely right. This whimsy and surreal little show makes really gorgeous use of a pastel and muted color palette, which not only complements the characters and show environments extremely well, but also provides a very calming and dreamlike effect. Featuring a solid blend of fantasy and realism, its animation style also does a great job at supporting the showā€™s emotional and narrative depth. So even though I havenā€™t had as much experience with this show as several others Iā€™ve mentioned already, it captivated me enough to put it at #7 on my list of cutest art styles.
6. Trulli Tales
https://preview.redd.it/c5o1cinwk54d1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=207f3f0c7f08329dcedd4f9d47d3edecbe8be599
Going back to another newer preschool entryā€¦ and one Iā€™m a bit surprised hasnā€™t gotten more attention. For those who arenā€™t aware, Trulli Tales is an Italian series that takes place in the world of Trullalleri, and features four children who learn to cook through their Grandma Trulliā€™s old cookbook and help from their teacher Miss Frisella, all while often trying to stop Copperpot, the showā€™s main villain, from stealing the book through their magical powers provided by their wands.
And even though Iā€™m well above the target age group for a show like this, Iā€™m just a sucker for many of the techniques this showā€™s art style provides. For one, the vivid and cheerful color palette. Second, the large eyes, simplistic facial features and rounded heads which create a very friendly and approachable appearance. And I also dig how the bold and clean outlines blend in with their respective colors so seamlessly. And similar to Sandra: The Fairytale Detective, this is another show that makes very noticeably frequent use of that silent ā€˜šŸ˜Æ/pogā€™ facial expression I mentioned earlier, which to me just enhances this already cute, magical and playful art and animation style even more. (But of course thatā€™s more of a bonus rather than a main factor)
Anyway, moving onā€¦
5. The PowerPuff Girls
https://preview.redd.it/nk81qx5xk54d1.jpg?width=1152&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e46d459c94b11f73bcc29bd708f8dc87c988897a
Now for anyone who may be asking if Iā€™m only counting the original series, or if Iā€™m also counting the ever-so-notorious reboot series that everyone wants to pretend never existed, my answer isā€¦ yes.
The thing is, both shows feature very similar ideas and concepts in design and art style that help elevate both showsā€™ levels of cuteness. They just provide different ways of doing so, with the original series featuring stronger bold outlines, and a slightly more muted color palette, while the reboot uses thinner outlines and a broader and richer color palette. As far as the animation goes, the original series goes the traditional hand-drawn route, while the reboot goes the digital route. And while there are a HANDFUL of things that can be said about the 2016 PPG reboot, the art style is one of the few things it can absolutely be given credit for, in addition to largely retaining many of the elements that made the original showā€™s art style as cute and memorable as it was. For that reason, I put both shows here at #5.
4. True and the Rainbow Kingdom
https://preview.redd.it/sccj1rmxk54d1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4aeb119ff0e5d10c08a8e22ec607c6dac64656e8
Yes, Iā€™m just as surprised as many of you probably are that Iā€™m only NOW getting into talking about a 3D/CGI show on this list. And spoilers, also the only one on this list. I guess due to the current overabundance of CGI shows for younger audiences (and how many of them can run together for me) combined with me having grown up much more with 2D shows, I tend to be a bit more picky when it comes to what CGI shows really stand out to me as being the cutest of the lot. But True really stuck out in that regard. Of course the showā€™s color palette would be just as bright, diverse, and vibrant as its title would imply, but the super large eyes and rounded faces make a big return here, creating that familiarly adorable and approachable look. Not only that, but the environments are also lush and full of detail which help create a fantastical environment. Even with the change in animation style from the first season to the next, the show maintains its charming and uniquely cute appearance all the same, so it lands here at #4.
3. MLP: Equestria Girls
https://preview.redd.it/a30a0f5yk54d1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=03b46aaeb8df1fceb489ee702c40f54ffb2f6b50
Okay, so this will come off as quite a curveball on this list. And many of you are probably thinking why I didnā€™t go with the much more popular, recognizable, and franchise-defining main series, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic? Well, itā€™s largely because while the original series can be undeniably cute, I think the humanized versions of the characters took everything that made the main MLP:FIMā€™s seriesā€™ art style so memorable, and added tons of new features to it that enhance their cuteness factor even further. It keeps the vibrant and bold coloring, large eyes and hairstyles of the original, and make slight updates to the charactersā€™ facial features, and giving them new, modern sets of clothing and accessories that align with their personalities. And in keeping with the franchiseā€™s expressive animation style, we get a very memorable new set of designs that doesnā€™t come off as too surprising as to how it spawned as many movies and mini-seriesā€™ as it did, LOL.
2. Ni Hao, Kai-Lan
https://preview.redd.it/uly1f5oyk54d1.jpg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bf2d85924f644776608f4a4efaa1885b0b5f8296
These last two shows are BIG nostalgia vibes for me, and just to clarify, this isnā€™t a ranking of how good the shows themselves are, itā€™s just how cute I personally consider their art styles to be. And Ni Hao, Kai-Lan is one of the shows that perfectly nails that descriptor for me. It once again makes great use of that bright and saturated color palette + bold line combo that Iā€™ve been proven to be quite the sucker for, but it also does a solid job at incorporating various East Asian aesthetics and settings. In addition to the smooth animation, the characters all have something in common that I think ultimately puts it super high on my list: large heads/eyes, and small bodies. A true match made in heaven for providing an infectiously cute look that naturally appeals to such a young demographic, to the point even adults like myself canā€™t deny how adorable it looks. But somehow, it still managed to miss out on my #1, which is actually from the same network and came out around a similar time. So with thatā€¦
1. Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!
https://preview.redd.it/jn6kk31zk54d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5488c9c43bb200f2418839244eefc633acd04c20
What are the odds that both of my top 2 shows were both from Nick Jr.? Aside from it being a network I heavily grew up with as a small kid, many of its showsā€™ art styles I still manage to recall pretty easily to this day. And this is probably the biggest example of that. One of the best examples of using simple and playful geometric body shapes, along with that aforementioned bright and saturated color palette + bold line combo that works superbly to help them stand out amongst the equally colorful backdrops. This is proof of just how effective simplicity can really be in delivering cuteness. Furthermore, I know Iā€™ve hinted at it before (and I even talked about it on a post way back when), but this is also a show that LOVES to make use of its expressive faces, most notably my favorite ā€˜šŸ˜Æ/pogā€™ expression (to the point it literally happens every several seconds, and there are many moments with group shots of characters doing it). Not to say thatā€™s the sole reason why this show tops my list, but Iā€™d be lying if I said it didnā€™t contribute in some way to it. I mean just see for yourself...
https://preview.redd.it/vhote0d7l54d1.png?width=3057&format=png&auto=webp&s=ba77e38dfe1f804957bc34bb83d88cbd6c77727b
This was also a detail I remembered even as a small kid, and it took me a long while to remember just how adorable I always found it to be in various shows, but it especially applies here. So with all that, Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! takes my #1 spot for my cutest cartoon art style.
Whew, that was a fun ride and trip down memory lane to be sure! Feel free to leave your thoughts and/or suggestions down in the comments below on what you consider to be the most adorable cartoon art styles of all time! Of course, just remember to be respectful and understanding down there, lol.
Having said all of that, this is Particular Being 269 wishing you all a great rest of your day/night, and a Happy Pride Month!

2024.06.02 14:00 Aby1306 Honest appreciation of Diablo 4 team

Diablo 4 has taken up a lot of my time in the last year but I could not be happier about it. This post is just to convey my thoughts about the work the Diablo 4 team has continued to put in season after season, month after month.
Disclaimer: Before I get into details, I want to make it clear that I am not part of Blizzard nor am I a content creator. I have always been a gamer and do work in the gaming industry but in a completely separate space. I have managed multiple game teams and contributed to many aspects of developing games.
Note: I am a bit of rambler, so this is going to be a loooong post.
Even a small game is a complicated set of contradictions and constraints to handle. Diablo 4 is such a beast that it takes an exceptional team to create and keep updating it. I have been following the community reactions, playing the game a lot (1000+ hours) and trying to assess what the game team has been trying to do with every update we see.
Season 1 sucked, nothing else can be said. But from the game team side of things, sometimes you have difficult stakeholders. They have a lot of say in what direction is being pursued but their opinions are not great for the game from a gamer perspective. A lot of the team members would know its not best for the game but do not have any say in it. If they are do not have such stakeholders, I am happy for them but if they do have such stakeholders, I appreciate what they have achieved with the game even more.
My thoughts
I am suprised at how under appreciated the Diablo 4 tech is. Having such seamless gameplay with so many foreground and background elements is insane. This is a huge achievement considering the complicated background calculations which are perfectly in sync with what all of us see in the game visually in the game. An easy example I can think of is general combat. Everyone who has enebled damage numbers sees the multiple damage numbers pop up every second. Just think of the number of things that have to be processed for us to see them. And what we see is typically only the tip of the iceberg.
Some of the decisions of the team make sense if seen from that perspective. The most recent thing I saw in the community is the ask to reset boss dungeons without having to leave it. It is a complex problem to solve. If users go out of the dungeon, the entire instance of the dungeons, including all the elements - enemies, layout, chests, environment etc can be reset to baseline easily. Now consider if it requires a reset from within the dungeons. Which individual element needs to be reset and which ones do you retain? Do you retain the data on the enemies killed inside the dungeon but reset the boss only? How do you handle the random chests - what if some gamers need health potions? Should they go to town to the healer or should they be available inside the dungeon now? Its is deep rabbit hole. It can be done but it requires much deeper plannig and effort than most people realize.
Some slip ups / bugs happen because of this. Helltides is a great example of this. We have seen sometimes that multiple helltide regions are shown as being active despite only one 1 region being the true one. The most likely reason is that the data from past helltides has not been reset entirely. Just this week, I even saw the helltide chests that were not claimed still remain after the helltide timer ran out. It could be due to some exeception that was triggered too.
Opportunity Cost
When Joe Piepiora, Adam Jackson and others speak about opportunity costs, it is difficult for non-game team members to know what it truly entails. The game is a complex beast at the start. But as the seasons pass, it gets even more complicated. Every new unique, every new mechanic, every season adds another set of constraints to work with. To put it in other words, would we as gamers like some of the older things to be broken because of a shiny new mechanic or unique? No.
To make sure that everything works seasmlessly, the game team requires a lot of time to design, implement and test every small update. Because of the complexity of the game, it is difficult to attribute a particular impact to the specific update the team has planned. Granted, some dev tools could exist to help with that but it is still only probable and not definite. The tests will need to be repeated multiple times to be sure.
But, there are always contraints on time. Do you spend 50 hours to verify a "small" bug fix or do you use it to create a new update? The number of people working on the game are not infinite. The business would not be viable in that case. That is why, every game on any platform, any genre will always have bugs. No game is truly bug free.
This is not even consdering the planning side of things (Production and Product). There is an added layer of profitability concerns about how much you can "spend" on fixing past issues vs chasing new opportunities. At the end of the day, if the game does not make money, the game no longer has a big enough team to support it. In those situations, the game withers over time.
Fun Factor & design considerations
Lets talk about an example - hurricane and boulder for druids. There is a perception that if we refresh the hurricane, the boulders should just continue. Would it truly fun to just ensure your hurricane is up at all times and forget about managing the boulders? Initially we will ike it but it becomes boring after a while. Its liek the shadow minion necro in helltides. All you need to do is cast Decripify on all enemies so that minions can take care of them and maybe target elites and bosses with personal attacks. You feel overpowered for a while and love the experience for a while. But do it for 10 hours and the experience seems stale. Do it for 100 hours and you feel like helltides are boring and not fun anymore. Challenge and fun go hand in hand. If its too easy, its not fun, if its too hard its not not fun either. The delicate balance between the two require a lot of planning and design tuning.
The tuning aspects make the problem worse. There is an aspect that increases hurricane damage for every second it is active. With the new tempering, how much could the duration of hurricane be increased? There are also skill points to increase hurricane duration that is accessible to all of us without tempering. Then if you think about hurricane modifiers - slow, chance for vulnerable, damage reduction, each one of them have knock-on effects. For example, Slow leads to scaling damage with an aspect like Changeling's debt. Then of course, there are paragon boards that can have an impact as well. I am sure there are even more that I have not thought of. So, when Adam Jackson talks about educating ourselves on design to have fruitful conversations, he is not kidding. Most of current conversations seem to be on the surface level because the underlying factors are varied and complex.
To create any new update, designers will need to map out all the connections between every facet of the class skills, paragon, aspects etc. Having the entire list of concepts in mind when considering the details is a brain twister. I work on a much smaller game and I struggle to understand how my game works to the minute detail and what any small update would do to the wider game.
Player Base
There is a concept called player archetype (google it). For a popular game with a successful history, there are certain expectations built up by gamers. Different player archetypes enjoy different things about the game. For a game team to cater to such wide range of preferences is an impossible task. Someone or the other will be very happy about something but someone else will be pissed about it.
For the game team to work on the game with all these perspectives in consideration is an insanely difficult to say the least.
This is also why I appreciate all the content creators in the Diablo 4 community. They do a lot for the game and the community:
TLDR version:
My personal thoughts on how the Diablo 4 game team is being raked over coals for every single misstep despite the complexity of the game and the multiple user groups each having their own enjoyment factor. It is a tough job and I honestly appreciate their passion for the game and their professionalism.
This might be downvoted to hell and I am fine with it. The community has very strong opinions about the game and this, in my perspective, only shows the passion and love the community has for the game.
I wanted to write a lot more about specific things but this is long enough as is :)

2024.06.02 12:53 Free-username_ Fluid is unaffected by force fields

The fluid is selected here
I've been trying to make a syringe for a physics project, so I have turned gravity off so that the fluid doesn't leak out without a force, but when I add a force field the fluid is unaffected by it. It works fine when gravity is involved, although the force still does nothing. This is my first time using blender so I'm not too familiar with the options I have here. I would be glad if anyone could help or suggest an alternate option that would produce a similar result.

I used the Crosshead Studios assets, and all maps are at 140 px/square. Some images are details that can be added on top of existing maps, to remove the sheep from the farm or to add some food to a table. Feel free to use them if you like them.

While the product offers great benefits, it also comes with a few considerations. Make sure to secure your holster properly before transitioning from on-body to off-body carry, to ensure a snug and secure fit. Some users have reported a slight challenge when trying to transition holsters with different manufacturers' clips between the mount and the holster, so always double-check compatibility before attempting the switch.
Overall, the IWB Holster Mount Single is a well-thought-out and practical solution for firearm carrying needs in various environments. Its lightweight design, ease of use, and secure locking mechanism make it a standout option for those seeking a reliable and comfortable way to store and access their holster and firearm.

As a concealed carrier, I've tried several pocket holsters, but the Vedder Holsters Pocket Locker takes the cake. It's comfortable, custom-molded to fit my specific gun, and offers three different ways to draw it. I appreciate the Kydex design that ensures a snug fit without causing any print, but some users might prefer a more minimalist approach.
One downside is the thumb tab, which a few users find laborious. While it does help with the un-holstering process, there are alternative options out there that might be more accessible for some users. Also, some customers experienced delays in shipping, so it's crucial to check the status beforehand.
In summary, the Vedder Holsters Pocket Locker offers a streamlined, customizable concealed carry solution for pocket pistols. It's comfortable, retains your weapon securely, and blends seamlessly into the front pocket of your pants. Just make sure to be mindful of the thumb tab and the potential shipping times.

The breathable perforated neoprene base that sits against your body is incredibly comfortable, and the Alien Skin material grips the firearm so securely that any possibility of sliding is eliminated.
The passive retention system can be customized to suit my preferences, giving me a sense of control over the holster's overall functionality. Although it's a bit lighter than what I was accustomed to, the holster's overall weight is reassuringly minimal.
While this holster has been a boon to my daily carry needs, I must admit that the single mounting point does not provide the same level of stability that I had experienced with other holsters. However, considering the holster's other features, this is a small trade-off for the comfort and flexibility it offers. Overall, the Alien Gear ShapeShift Appendix Carry Holster has become my go-to for concealed carry, providing both security and comfort in one sleek package.

When it comes to having a seamless phone experience in the car, this dashboard phone holder is the way to go. The dual-clip design allows you to attach it easily to your car's dashboard with minimal effort. But the best part is its adjustable angle, giving you full control over the angle you desire while keeping your phone within easy reach. The one-touch operation is hassle-free, and the non-slip silicone gel ensures both your phone and car stay safe.
However, there are a few cons to consider. Some users have reported that the grip is not as strong as they hoped, causing their phone to slide around. Additionally, the design might not work for all car models, as visors and air vents were problematic for some reviewers. Despite these drawbacks, overall, this dashboard phone holder does its job pretty well and is worth giving a try.

This ingenious device was my saving grace when I found myself struggling to safely use my phone during a recent car journey.
One of the first things I noticed about this smartphone holder was its versatility. With a 360-degree rotating mechanism, I could easily adjust the angle and length of the mount to fit perfectly on my dashboard, ensuring that my phone remained securely in place. The extendable feature was particularly useful, as it allowed me to achieve the optimal viewing angle without obstructing my visibility.
The holder also accommodated my smartphone with ease, fitting devices up to 3.5 inches in size. It's a relief to know that I won't have to struggle to place my device in the mount. The combination of its adjustability and size compatibility made this smartphone holder invaluable for my travels.
However, there were a few inconveniences I encountered as well. Although the holder is made of high-quality materials, the mount did not feel as sturdy as I would have hoped. This led to a slight fear that the holder might slip off the dashboard, potentially causing damage to both my phone and car.
Despite its minor drawbacks, the Urban Beatz Extendable Windshield Dash Mount Travel Smartphone Holder has become an essential tool for me during my road trips. Its convenience and adaptability make it a must-have for any traveler who relies on their smartphone for navigation and entertainment.

I've been using Heyday's Car Mount for quite some time, and I must say, it's been a mixed experience. The mount itself comes with an attractive, evergreen green color that adds a stylish accent to my car. One of the coolest features is its adjustable arms, which are compatible with most smartphones, saving me time while getting ready to use my phone for maps, music, and other applications.
However, I've encountered a few challenges with this mount. First and foremost, I've found that it lacks the durability that I would expect from a product in its price range. The adhesive base, although secure initially, has shown signs of losing its grip over time, which can be inconvenient when I need to pull it off for cleaning or repositioning. Furthermore, I've noticed that the mount's arm movement can be somewhat restrictive, especially when I'm attempting to use it for a phone with a thicker case. It could be frustrating to some users but it didn't bother me too much.
Still, despite its shortcomings, I've grown accustomed to it and have even come to appreciate its simple yet effective design. The Heyday Car Mount may not be perfect, but it certainly gets the job done when I need it to. If you're in the market for a reasonably priced, attractively designed car mount, this could be a good option to consider.

Despite being so sturdy, the phone mount didn't take up too much space on my dashboard, making it a perfect fit for both large and small cars. It was simple to install and remove, making it the perfect car accessory for any driver.

The BELTRON Belt Clip Holster I've been using with my Sonim XP5S has been a game changer for me. The secure fit and quick release latch have been a lifesaver, especially when I need to take calls or switch hands quickly. The custom design, with openings for easy access, is a major highlight.
However, one downside I've found is that the holster doesn't rotate 180 degrees as advertised, so it's more limited in its versatility. Another minuscule issue is that the kicking stand doesn't hold the phone perfectly vertical, which might be bothersome for some users.
Overall, this BELTRON Belt Clip Holster has made my life easier and more efficient, especially in my busy daily life. Despite the minor drawbacks, I'm happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this product to others in need of a reliable and easy-to-use belt clip for their Sonim XP5S device.

When I strapped on the Tech Holster Ponderosa, I was eager to test its capabilities during my outdoor adventures. Right off the bat, I liked how compact it was, making it an easy addition to my existing gear setup. I found that it's versatile in terms of attachment options, thanks to the MOLLE attachment system and the velcro straps.
The zippered pocket was perfect for securing my device, offering a watertight solution to keep my tech safe during rainy days. However, I had a little trouble when trying to access the front pocket, as it was a bit difficult to open and close single-handedly, especially with larger equipment.
The main pocket was where I faced some of my biggest challenges, as my phone with an Otterbox case barely fit inside. The tight fit made it challenging to remove or insert my device when needed, and I couldn't help but feel that a slightly larger design could have solved this problem.
Despite the challenges I encountered, I found the Tech Holster Ponderosa to be a useful and versatile accessory in my outdoor pursuits. However, it could have been a little more thoughtfully designed in terms of size and pocket layout. Still, overall, I appreciated its convenience and effectiveness during my various excursions.

From the moment I installed it on my air vent, I was impressed with how well it fit and held firm without obstructing the airflow. The most innovative feature is the rubber cord port at the back that conveniently lets you plug in your charging cable, keeping your phone safe and powered up simultaneously. The versatility of this holder makes it suitable for both small and large smartphones.
Of course, no product is perfect. Although the High Road Ultra DriverPockets does an excellent job in most situations, it might be a bit challenging to set up in some cases, and it doesn't work well with every air vent. Additionally, some users might find it a bit small for their needs.

2024.06.02 11:07 TheSlashEffect Macros to switch between filament/hardware configurations

Macros to switch between filament/hardware configurations
Hello, 3DP community! I have developed a small tool which allows switching between configuration settings using macros.
https://github.com/TheSlashEffect/KlipperMaterialConfigSwitch
The reasoning for developing this is that I wanted to be able to change between filaments or other hardware without having to touch the configuration manually, or depending on slicegcode specific metadata to achieve this functionality. In addition, the configuration file layout shown here follows the "one config file per hardware" principle, separating between hardware setups in a more explicit manner. This makes it easy for the user and the software to implement extra safety mechanisms. For example, you can setup different min/max extrude temperatures per filament.
The tool allows users to have different macros to switch between different types of hardware. For example some macros change the config for different printing materials, while some others can change printing surface config settings.
You can switch between different kinds of hardware with a single click
I am a software engineer by trade but by no means a Python developer, nor do I have enough user stories to make this tool as versatile and practical as it can be. So please, any input on both functionality and the software itself is encouraged and highly appreciated. Keep in mind the goal is to keep this tool simple, dependency free, and non-programmer friendly. Hence some of the silly design decisions you might see here.
