2024.05.19 22:18 PacGold Replacing my Old school Triangia

Hello all!
Being from Sweden and started my outdoors adventure with the Scouts I am naturally #teamTrangia. I have an old set which consists of the classic trangia with 2 pots,1 pan, stand and windshield. I really enjoy the format where everything fits nicely in a nice package and I can have my cannister inside the pots.
I have the past 2 years been bringing the whole set out even thou I only use the pots and pans since switching to Gas and using a non trangia burner. I am looking to trim some space and weight and upgrading my kit.
I have been looking at some set which would fill my needs which would be: 2 pots, roughly 1L one of the pots with "bail handle"
1 Pan
Need to be able to fit canister and burner inside a neat package.
No need for dedicated lid for the pots, love if the pan would double as that.
This is not hard to find except that I want one of the pots to be with a "bail handle". I do occasionally cook over fire and that would be nice to have.
Been eying some GSI kits but the come with plats and eating cups which Im not interested in.
So any recommendations on a pot with "bail handle" that could fit 1 pot plus burner and canister.

How do I spice up my little nook with more life?
Hey y’all,
I need help with my shady little outdoor nook! Any ideas? More ferns?! Hah. Anyone know of any evergreen trailing plants that enjoy mostly shade? Can’t seem to find much….
Open to anything, except I’m not really a fan of metal garden art, but could be persuaded?

Thanks!

Next stop….nursery 👟 👟
Wearing their everyday shoes to the self car wash. Nice job guys 👍🏼 we’re walking in the house and especially in the nursery with these shoes and now we’re at the dirty car wash getting all kinds of scum on them. For being “outdoors” people y’all don’t have a pair that can get wet/dirty and then stay in the garage??? This is disgusting.
And there goes the Drue big booty and Gabe’s muscular calves filter. Pathetic.

2024.05.19 22:09 Far_Veterinarian5349 B had those poor monkeys in their sleep cage the other day for 2.5 hours cause they were sooo sleeeepyyy🙄

I screen recorded how long they were locked in that tiny sleep cage but my phone was on the fritz. They stayed in there for over an hour with the camera on them and Lando didn’t sleep at all. Luca dozed for a bit. She came back in cause the comments were getting out of control as to why they were locked up. But then said she was going to leave them in there because she could tell Oliver was still so very sleepy. Then she took the camera out of the room and sat in the kitchen for over an hour while they supposedly slept. However, I could still hear the monkeys making noise every once in a while. Then it was diaper changes and playing in a bedroom with zero toys and enrichment . I guarantee they were then shoved in the play cage , aka, little bird cage. The day before that they spent the majority of the day locked in the car and the day before that they spent the majority of the day locked up in east texas while she and stormy were live for hours. We all know this is their normal daily life. Oliver is showing signs of zoo psychosis. When he’s locked in a small space he’s starting to throw his head back and pace. I’ll post videos of what it looks like. Stormy’s monkey does it also. We all know how bad lox is . Oliver is right behind her now that he’s getting older and needs more space and enrichment. Monkeys are never meant to live like this!!! They must get their energy out everyday!! They would never live even close to it in the wild. In the wild they spend their days in trees, playing and grooming their troop mates, loving on and clinging to the safety of their mothers for two years, foraging, often covering many acres in a day. My heart absolutely breaks for monkeys who are humanized, made to take “naps” and kept in small spaces (including a home) no outdoor time all of their lives. Oh and in all of those hours on live Lulu wasn’t tended to, not even one time😔 the poor thing is diapered too. I HATE seeing the precious WILD animals live this way. It’s absolutely heartbreaking 😤😖

Hey,
Making the most of the time off and slower summer work pace. I probably won’t be doing much today so it would be nice to have some conversations.
Anyway, a little about me. I’m 6ft, brown hair, blue/green eyes, athletic, love to stay active and outdoors. I’ve got back into my reading and gaming recently too. Oh and I’m a big fan of travelling.
Hopefully that’s enough for a start and tell me about yourself.

2024.05.19 22:07 suburbanhippie_6 Expecting our first in July, lease ends in October and we are deciding to move.

TDLR: Expecting couple wanting to move and start fresh with a 3month old to be closer to family but isn't sure where would be better for us. Family situation is sort of complicated.
If you are familiar with the south and Ohio geographically and culturally, I would love to hear your input.
28F and 29M married couple currently living 12-16 hours from parents. We have our very good friends (couple with 2 kids) that are basically family that live in our town close by. We are expecting our first in July and our lease is up in October. Living where we currently are is starting to become a bit stale - rent is unaffordable for what we need (a yard and more space) and buying a house is only affordable in school districts that are much less than favorable. Wages are okay. Combined income is about 80k but with student loans, car loans, and we take care of all bills. The biggest perk of staying is the fact that we live on the coast and have wonderful friends that we love as family here.
My dad lives in Northern Kentucky (Cincinnati) and in-laws live in Northern Ohio (Michigan/Ohio) border. We met when I lived in Northern Ohio for grad school. My mom passed 3 years ago after an aggressive 5 month battle with cancer and my dad is 72 yo working full time still after a few stents in his heart and a triple bypass at 70 yo. My mom was 53 so we never expected her to pass before my dad. She was also the glue that held our family together and it has since crumbled unfortunately.
First grandchild on my side, 4th on my husband's side. We live the farthest away out of everyone. My husband is expecting a promotion that will move us to Knoxville, TN which is ~3.5 hours away from my dad and 7 hours from his parents. We won't know anyone and will essentially be starting all over with a 3mo old. He doesn't love his job, but is hoping the pay raise will help us secure housing and help with starting a family. Currently we make a combined income of about 80k. He's open to finding something else if he isn't happy with the negotiations from this promotion. His company recently was bought by a corporate company and doesn't love the changes being made. His family is extremely supportive and my dad is as well. I'm very close to my dad and get along with his family very well. Same goes for him.
Logistically and financially, Ohio is much more affordable and presents more job opportunities for me (Athletic Trainer). Husband would want to live in Cleveland where he has best friends although the thought of going that far up north again worries me with the weather and seasonal affective disorder. We both rely on being outdoors and engaging in outdoor recreation for our mental health. He doesn't mind the cold as much but does like having more mild weather for more time outdoors. He doesn't love the idea of going back to Ohio but can see benefits. He would need to find an entirely new job as would I. We both love camping and hiking in the mountains and really want to be close to all of that and raise our kids with an active lifestyle. Southern culture and values are also something we would love to raise our kids around.
For me, NKY/Cincinnati is out of the question as going back home would send me into a spiraling depression just being back where I worked very hard to get away from (multiple reasons). Every time I visit home I find myself grieving the loss of my mom, the loss of my family as I knew it and my anxiety worsens exponentially. Let's just say where I grew up carries a lot of weight and I'm fairly certain I have a degree of PTSD from being there. But it is also fairly cheap for housing and some connections for jobs. My husband has said he wouldn't let us move back there as he's seen how much of a toll it has on me. It's just unfortunately not an option.
I worry about losing time with my dad as he is the oldest of our parents with pre-existing comorbidities. With my mom's cancer diagnosis being so unexpected I fear losing him unexpectedly as well. I want our children to be involved in his life but also my in-laws in Ohio.
What would you do in this situation? We have both made sacrifices in the past of where we are living in order to take care of business with family and work. We partially feel like it's our obligation to create the life we want for us and our kids. Partially feel like it's going to be so much harder without family nearby and much more uncertainty.

2024.05.19 22:01 TradeMark159 Thinking about moving to Seattle

I am 23m thinking about moving to Seattle. I currently live in Madison, WI and am looking for more career growth opportunities. I work in tech and imo the "tech scene" in Madison is way overhyped, and from what I have seen Seattle has the best tech job market anywhere outside of the valley. I also love backpacking, hiking, paddling and skiing so I feel that Seattle will also be a much better fit for my outdoor hobbies. Not to mention that the whole "college town" vibe in Madison has somewhat lost its charm for me.
I have heard a lot of people say that Seattle is very expensive, but from what I have seen, apartment rentals are reasonable (plenty of 1br around $1500 within a couple miles of downtown) and other costs are pretty much in line with Madison, while offering many more amenities as a larger city and having 0% state income tax and having ~50% higher average tech job salaries. While also having (imo) the best nature out of any of the major us cities.
I would be leaving behind friends and family, but tbh flying back for a long weekend to visit a few times a year does not seem like that big of a deal. Also the financial and lifestyle benefits seem like they would more than make up for it. Am I missing something or is moving as much of a no-brainer as it seems like it is?

I am thinking about building an outdoor pond for red eared sliders. It will need a filter and a pump/aeration unit. How important is a heater and what else would it need to be functional as their permanent home?
Do I still need a I’ve light if the enclosure has a basking area that gets direct sunlight part of the day?
Also I have dogs, what should I do to make sure they stay out?

2024.05.19 21:59 chocostrawberri Were me and my boyfriend harassed at a Goo Goo Dolls concert?

I have been fuming about this incident that happened Friday night and I have not been able to get out all my frustrations to my friends and family. So here you go Reddit, this is in hopes I can finally put these feelings to rest.
Me (21F), my boyfriend (22M) and another couple we’re friends with went to a concert that featured Walk the Moon and the Goo Goo Dolls. My state doesn’t have a lot of performers who come out to do big concerts so when they do come, there is always a huge turnout. The four of us found the perfect spot in the crowd, close enough to see the performers but also with a quick route out to use the bathroom. We have our drinks and we’re having a good time. Walk the Moon opens and then the Goo Goo Dolls take the stage. About 30 mins into their performance, this couple comes up behind me and my boyfriend, next to the family behind us. Me and my boyfriend are attached at the hip, holding up our arms together, wrapping, dancing, etc.
Some time passes and I can kind of make out the words “Dude, you keep elbowing my tits” from the woman. My boyfriend asked “What?”, looked to the guy, and the guy avoided eye contact with him. At that point, my boyfriend said that he had only bumped into her shoulder once, which I trust his word but I also knew that we weren’t close enough to them because not once did I bump into her.
In an effort to rectify the situation, my boyfriend asked for me to move a little over, which I complied with. We were trying to get our friends to see if we could move away from this couple but it was too tightly packed. So we were stuck there. Trying to keep the good vibes going, I was cheering, had my arms up, just trying to dance and have fun.
30 mins or so later, I hear her say “Girl, I can literally smell your armpits.” I turn to her incredulously (upset) because I could not believe she was complaining about BO in a concert that’s being hosted outdoors on a tropical, humid island. I gestured to the edge of the crowd twice, told her “You can go, you can leave”. When I pointed to the edge of the crowd, I brushed her shoulders and she said “Don’t touch me”. I said “I ain’t tryin to touch you” and turned my lil butt around. I kept my arms up for 3-4 songs after that out of pure spite. We ignored them from then on and they left an hour later.
Later on, because I did feel self conscious about her comment, I asked my boyfriend to smell test me. He checked and the only way that she could have smelled me was if her face was 2 inches away from my armpits.
After debriefing with my boyfriend, we came to the conclusion that she was harassing us for little to no reason. Some of the things we thought were strange in their behavior was the simple fact they did not try to move or leave after the supposed elbowing. My boyfriend took it on himself to make space between us and this couple. I full heartedly believe that if anyone believed that they were getting inappropriately touched, they would move. Especially if their partner was there. Not once did they make an effort to move. Also, it was an extremely big crowd. There is bound to be occasional bumps between people. My drink was bumped a couple times, I bumped into others, everyone did. If you did not want to be in a packed section of the crowd, you could just as easily move closer to the outskirts where it was less populated and not be bumped into. Also, her guy said and did nothing about what she was trying to say.
As for her comment about my armpits, I really believe she was just trying to find something to complain about to get me and my boyfriend’s attention again (more likely my boyfriend if we’re being honest). There was no need to make such a comment at a literal outdoor concert where everyone’s sweat mixes. It was an attempt to embarrass me. In front of who? I couldn’t begin to say.
At the end of the day, I’m more upset that she tried to make my boyfriend look like he was harassing her to do something as perverse as copping a feel. Her man didn’t even try to stand up for her and back what she was saying. We had our hands on each other the whole time and nothing untoward happened with everyone else that we were surrounded by.
If you end up seeing this and you know who you are, making that kind of a lie on someone else’s name will get you all kinds of bachi.

Family member refuses to walk her dog or even let her roam in the backyard because she'll get
This is a highly intelligent dog and my fam member refuses to walk her or let her outside since it makes her dirty and brings dirt to the living space. She is a dog ffs. She needs enrichment. My fam member is a good owner in everything except for two important things: 1) separation anxiety management 2) outdoor enrichment.
She gets everything else: she is socialized with other humans and dogs in the daycare, has really good food, toys, always up to date with vet stuff, etc.
But the dog is hyperactive and likes to run like crazy. The living space is very small, and it can increase the likelihood of injuries when she gets her zoomies. Even my other fam member that lives there offered her to walk the dog on her behalf!!! But no, she doesn't want to 😒😒😒 what's the point of having a dog, then? Just get a plush toy or something ffs.

My friend and I are planning an ambitious multiple-day through-hike in the sub-arctic/arctic regions of Fennoscandia in winter. Given the extreme conditions we anticipate, we're assembling a gear list to ensure we're well-prepared. Below is the list of gear I'm considering, aimed to handle the harsh and cold environment effectively. I would deeply appreciate your insights, feedback, and any additional recommendations you might have:

Clothing and Footwear:

Gear and Accessories:

Arc Haul Ultra 70L & Arc Zip Ultra 62L - UL Hiking Backpacks Zpacks
Helinox Lite Cot & Chair Zero
Alto TR 2 - Two Person Semi Freestanding Ultralight Tent
Tent stove – Savotta
MSR® Stove options: PocketRocket® Deluxe, WindPro™ II
Solid Heat Reflector with Windscreen MSR
Nalgene water bottle
Naturehike Hiking Camping Backpack 45L/65L
FDF Sleeping pad – Savotta
XL Sleeping Pads – Klymit
Gear Aid Seam Grip Instant Repair Kit
Nitecore NU25 400 UL Ultra Lightweight Headlamp

Navigation and Safety:

The goal is to balance durability, comfort, and weight while being prepared for the unpredictable and severe weather conditions. Do you think there are any crucial items missing, or does anything seem unnecessary? If you have experiences with any of these products or similar expeditions, your feedback would be incredibly valuable!
Thanks in advance for your help, and happy trails!
